- 0:00Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome to another episode
- 0:05of the United Church of Donga Youth Devotion.
- 0:08Our Bible reading for today is taken from the book of Matthew, chapter 28, verse 14.
- 0:15It says, And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will appease him and make you secure.
- 0:23Our theme, the truth will always prevail. This verse appears in the context
- 0:30of the guards at Jesus' tomb following his resurrection.
- 0:36The chief priests and elders bribed the soldiers guarding the tomb to lie about
- 0:43the events, claiming that Jesus' disciples took his body while they were asleep.
- 0:50They assured the guards that they will smooth things over with the governor
- 0:57pilot to prevent any consequences for failing to stop the theft.
- 1:02This brief passage reveals much about human nature, especially concerning the
- 1:09truth and lengths people will go to preserve their power,
- 1:16reputation or safety.
- 1:18The religious leaders threatened by Jesus' resurrection opted for deception instead of the truth.
- 1:28They were so committed to protecting their positions that they were willing
- 1:33to bribe the soldiers and continue a lie, even though Jesus'
- 1:39resurrection was the very event that validated his divine identity in the gospel message.
- 1:47As followers of Christ, this passage challenges us in a few ways.
- 1:53One, the cost of truth. Following Jesus can lead us to uncomfortable truths and situations.
- 2:02Standing for the truth in a world full of lies or half-truths can be tough.
- 2:10We are called to remain steadfast in God's truth, regardless of the cost, just as Jesus did.
- 2:20Number two, integrity over convenience.
- 2:24The religious leaders aimed to
- 2:27avoid conflict and maintain their power by compromising their integrity.
- 2:33How often do we find ourselves in situations where the easier choice might be
- 2:42to cover up the truth or sidestep difficult conversations?
- 2:47Yet integrity, even when it's tough, is a hallmark of a Christ-centered life.
- 2:55The last one, the victory of resurrection.
- 2:59Despite the conspiracy to cover up Jesus' resurrection, the truth remained undeniable.
- 3:06No level of human effort could halt the truth of God's work.
- 3:12Ultimately, God's purposes will prevail, and His victory over sin and death
- 3:19is the greatest testimony.
- 3:22As we reflect on this passage, let's ask ourselves, in what areas of life am
- 3:29I tempted to compromise the truth for convenience or self-preservation?
- 3:36How can I live more closely to the integrity and truth of the gospel, no matter the cost?
- 3:45Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we come before you today, lifting all who seek
- 3:53your truth and guidance.
- 3:55We ask that you grant them the strength to stand firm in your word,
- 4:01even when the world around them may tempt them to compromise.
- 4:07May they be filled with the courage to uphold integrity, knowing that you are
- 4:15with them in every circumstance.
- 4:17Lord, help them trust
- 4:21that your purposes will always prevail
- 4:24regardless of the opposition they face
- 4:27Let them remember the power
- 4:31of the resurrection the ultimate victory that nothing can undo May they reflect
- 4:38their truth in every area of their lives We pray they will seek your wisdom
- 4:45above all else and be quick to choose honesty,
- 4:50love, and righteousness, even when it's tough.
- 4:55Guide them in their daily walk, strengthening their faith and helping them live
- 5:02out the gospel with courage and grace.
- 5:06In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
