- 0:01Hello, welcome to He's hot, but something's off.
- 0:06Something is off. I'm recording this in the
- 0:08morning and a lot of the times I record this in the afternoon,
- 0:14early evening. But today I just felt like
- 0:18recording. You know, sometimes I I do this
- 0:22as a hobby. I do this for fun.
- 0:24I've said that a few times before.
- 0:26This isn't making me any money honestly, but I'm very if I'm
- 0:32going to put out something content, I get very organized
- 0:38about it because I've been putting up content for so long
- 0:42in different forms that I know that the only way to stick to
- 0:45putting out content, especially something like a podcast where
- 0:50people expect new episodes somewhere regularly.
- 0:55The only way to really do it properly is to have a schedule.
- 1:00Doesn't mean you have to necessarily put out something
- 1:03every single week. I think it's nice because a lot
- 1:06of the more successful podcasts they do every single week and it
- 1:10comes out that way. And you know, it's, it's like
- 1:13your your when your favorite show comes out on YouTube or
- 1:17Netflix or TV or whatever, and it's once a week And you know,
- 1:21like Drag Race, I watch Drag Race.
- 1:23It comes out once a week. It's always on a Friday.
- 1:26I look forward to it. I expect it.
- 1:28It's nice when it's like regular every single week.
- 1:30So even though I do this for fun, I put out an episode every
- 1:35single week. But the thing about that is some
- 1:38weeks, some weeks are harder than others.
- 1:41Some days are harder than others.
- 1:42And there are days and weeks where it's like, I don't really
- 1:45feel like recording an episode that that's just the truth of
- 1:50it. If this was more of like a
- 1:54business, more of a professional endeavor, then I think I would
- 2:01probably hold myself to like a slightly higher standard.
- 2:07But the other, the other aspect of, you know, doing something
- 2:13and having it be like a burden, I guess is the theme, not to
- 2:17make the three of you listening feel like, you know, it's a
- 2:19burden for you to make this content for you.
- 2:21I, I'm just, I'm just trying to be like real with you.
- 2:24Honestly, the flip side of that is, you know, when I put out
- 2:30something, I think about how people are going to perceive it.
- 2:34Like when you put something out into the world, like you post
- 2:37something on social media, you're not necessarily doing it
- 2:40for any sort of game. And they're influencers that are
- 2:43posting just to post. But a lot of people, they post
- 2:47stories and whatever, videos, photos on social media just to
- 2:52post it, you know, just just just for fun or just to show
- 2:58their friends and followers what's going on.
- 3:01It's like there's no like business or monetary motives
- 3:06there at all. But even then, no matter why
- 3:10you're putting something out there, you probably have some
- 3:16probably think about how that content is going to be
- 3:18perceived, right? Most people do.
- 3:22And The thing is sometimes that is a very restricting mindset to
- 3:30have. It depends on how far you take
- 3:34it. People talk about photoshopping
- 3:36and face tuning photos and filters and things like that.
- 3:41You know, it's it's because you know that when you put a selfie
- 3:44of yourself out there on the Internet, people are going to
- 3:48look at it and make a judgement on that photo and therefore of
- 3:53you. So you want to quote UN quote
- 3:56look good and phase two filters, you know, that's those are not
- 4:02new things anymore. Those those things have been out
- 4:03for many years now and it's been a it's it's a thing that people
- 4:07do. But it's the same for me.
- 4:09You know, I'm not I'm not so different than other people out
- 4:13there. Part of my image, you know, part
- 4:17of one of the businesses I run, the only Fans relies on my
- 4:21physical image, you know, so definitely with Kian, I'm very,
- 4:28it's a little bit more like on the next level in terms of OK,
- 4:32photos and videos I put out there.
- 4:35You know, part of that business is looking fiscally attractive.
- 4:41So when I put the content out there, I take it to the next
- 4:44level in terms of making sure, OK, I need to look good in this
- 4:48video. You know, when I edit videos for
- 4:50Kian, they're definitely parts and scenes where I've cut from
- 4:57the final video because, oh, this is not a flattering angle.
- 5:01Like in this position at this angle with this camera, with
- 5:04this lighting, it's not flattering.
- 5:07I'm not going to put it in and it's a subjective call.
- 5:11Obviously we try to set it up so that, you know, the lighting is
- 5:18optimal, the camera angles optimized.
- 5:21You have multiple cameras going partially because of that.
- 5:24So if one angle looks hideous, hopefully an other angle will
- 5:27look good enough that that scene itself doesn't go to waste.
- 5:31And we can't it can make it to the final edit, but it's little
- 5:35things like that, you know, for that business, it just comes
- 5:37with the territory when you're doing that type of content or
- 5:44like when you're modelling or like TV or film, you know, like
- 5:47you're, you're trying to give a particular visual comes to that
- 5:53territory. But for for just Joey T for my
- 5:56own personal whatever, like for this, like I don't really get
- 6:00dressed up for the video version of this podcast, which is
- 6:03available on my YouTube channel, just Joey T because it it's
- 6:07supposed it was not supposed to be about the way I look.
- 6:10It's just supposed to be like me talking about whatever on the
- 6:13microphone. But even with the audio medium,
- 6:18when I'm hitting the audio for this, there are as time has gone
- 6:24on with the 100 odd episodes we that I've recorded so far, the
- 6:30week by week, As it goes by, the more and more I edit the audio
- 6:36on it because I don't like how many Umm's and Ah's that I say.
- 6:41And I don't even notice it when I'm recording usually, you know,
- 6:45those like full of words that a lot of people hear, but I don't
- 6:50even know if they even understand.
- 6:52I'm listening to more and more podcasts as I you know, just in
- 6:57the more recent years and a lot of I don't know how much other
- 7:02people edit their podcasts. But I think for me, I'm going to
- 7:08try to edit it less because the recording, like this recording
- 7:13part, it feels fun. I can just talk about whatever I
- 7:17want. Flipping on a camera is not that
- 7:19much effort, honestly. I've got a couple of lights set
- 7:23up on my dining room. My dining room table is now like
- 7:26my permanent podcasting set up now because I don't eat at the
- 7:31dining room table ever. I don't actually use it, but so
- 7:34like, you know, it's I've got I've got my office and also the
- 7:39guest bedroom. So that's kind of filling up.
- 7:41So this is like now my it by the way, if you, I haven't even
- 7:45talked about the change of scenery on the video version of
- 7:47the podcast. I just assume most of you 2 like
- 7:50just roll with it. But yeah, you might have noticed
- 7:53if you watch the video version that the the probably about four
- 7:59months ago about in January, that's when you notice that, oh,
- 8:04we didn't have that mint green background anymore.
- 8:08And it became this other like this other room, this other
- 8:13place with these, with the art on the back that has like the
- 8:17three letter airport codes for some of the airports in like the
- 8:21kind of pastel colors. And now we have this more
- 8:26generic background that has like a shelf with random stuff on it.
- 8:31And then we have this fake plant from IKEA.
- 8:34It's a fake plant from IKEA. But yeah, anyways, yeah, I, I
- 8:38over, over the course of the 100 episodes, the more that I edit,
- 8:43the more I get pickier and pickier about the audio.
- 8:47And when I listen to other people's podcasts, I, I can tell
- 8:54the ones where a lot of them, they don't edit as much as I do.
- 8:58Like when I look in the editor, when I'm done editing a episode
- 9:02of this podcast, the number of cuts and edits I can just see at
- 9:06a glance on the timeline, it's like 50 different little tiny
- 9:10things I've taken out that are like split second little umms
- 9:13and ahs or pauses that I've taken out.
- 9:16And that that is the most, that's the least enjoyable part
- 9:21of editing this podcast. And it's because I want to put
- 9:25out a good product. I don't necessarily like how
- 9:28many UMS and Oz I say naturally when I'm talking.
- 9:32But when I listen to other people's podcasts, they, it
- 9:37doesn't bother me to hear other people say UMS and Oz.
- 9:41I don't think most people say to the level that I do though, to
- 9:44be really honest. And I think I'm going to edit my
- 9:49podcast a little less because that's like the time suck, you
- 9:55know? Like if I didn't try to do all
- 9:59those kind of sort of micro edits, the editing for this
- 10:03would be like a 5 minute job. It'd be so fast, it would still
- 10:07be enjoyable. So I actually really hesitated
- 10:12to bring this up. It's one of those things where
- 10:15when someone brings it up, now we're going to look for a listen
- 10:18for those things. I think there is a part of me
- 10:23that would like to try to not use so many full of words like
- 10:29saying like all the time. I say like a lot and to the
- 10:33point where some people on the, on the comments and some past of
- 10:36those have pointed it out. But you know what the other
- 10:38thing about that is if you don't want to listen to me talk,
- 10:41switch off like are, are are you paying money for this?
- 10:46By the way, patron subscribers, I know you're paying money for
- 10:49the app reversal this and your patronage is very much
- 10:52appreciated. But you also get a whole bunch
- 10:53of other content and you guys get another exclusive episode
- 10:56and I will edit that to the death because you're paying
- 10:58money for it. But for like the people that you
- 11:01know, there's a million different podcasts and YouTube
- 11:03videos or whatever you can watch.
- 11:04If you don't want to listen to me and watch me, just don't.
- 11:07I think I've gotten to the point where a lot of my adult life,
- 11:13I've been so concerned about how other people perceive me that a
- 11:18lot of the things I do, I just think about, oh, how am I going
- 11:23to look when I do this thing? Or if I look a certain way, or
- 11:26if I dress a certain way or if I act a certain way.
- 11:29I think I'm getting to a point where I'm starting to get more
- 11:35and more tired of it to the point where the tiredness of
- 11:42that is starting to outweigh how much I care about the
- 11:47perception. You know what I mean?
- 11:51Because everything you do, a lot of things you do in life is risk
- 11:55versus reward, cost versus benefit.
- 11:59And I think for me on this particular, you know, this
- 12:05particular thing, the, the, the cost is started to outweigh the
- 12:10benefit. And maybe not an absolute on
- 12:13paper, objective terms, but I think I care less and less for
- 12:18certain things how people perceive me.
- 12:21If you don't like how many times I say like, go just just fuck
- 12:25off. Go listen to someone else.
- 12:28There was a comment on a recent episode where I was talking
- 12:31about some of the Formula One stuff and some of the drama
- 12:34about new drivers getting sacked and you know, whatever.
- 12:39And someone I'm is likely they met.
- 12:44No, I'll intent. It was just a very different
- 12:46topic. And I wear that a lot of people
- 12:47are not into Formula One. And then they just made a
- 12:49comment about like, you know, like what, what the hell is
- 12:52going on with this? And I just made usually I don't
- 12:56engage, but I think I'm at a point where like, you know, it's
- 12:58my comments such if I want to engage, I, I will.
- 13:01And I just said, well, it's my podcast and I'll talk about
- 13:03whatever I want. And I just want to reiterate
- 13:07that this is my podcast, and I will talk about what I want.
- 13:12If you don't want to listen to me talk, switch off.
- 13:16Hey, when was the last time you really took care of your skin?
- 13:19The skin is the largest organ in the whole human body, and it's
- 13:22doing so much for you. It protects you from germs and
- 13:25cooties. It keeps you warm when you're
- 13:27cold. It keeps you cool when you're
- 13:28hot. It's making vitamin D.
- 13:30It gives you the gift of touch and sensation.
- 13:33And that's just scratching the surface.
- 13:34So you better take care of it. I started my own skin care
- 13:38company, Serve Labs to serve fun and functional skin care for
- 13:42everyone so that you can serve fun while serving face.
- 13:46Go to Serve Labs dot COSCRVELAB s.co or follow us at Serve Labs
- 13:54on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter and discover how easy
- 13:58and fun it is to treat your skin right with Serve Labs.
- 14:03It, it's so easy. It's so easy.
- 14:05If you don't want to listen, don't listen because this, I'm
- 14:09doing this for my benefit and I love that there's like three or
- 14:13five of you that love to listen to me.
- 14:17Maybe you don't love every episode.
- 14:19That's fine. I don't expect everyone to like
- 14:22every episode of this, but I find it fun to put this out
- 14:27there every week. I actually ran into someone
- 14:30recently, I think it was at EDC, so EDC and then someone that I
- 14:36haven't met before, but it was like a friend of her friend
- 14:40listens to my podcast. I don't like one of the two
- 14:44podcasts that I, I put out, either this one or the gay
- 14:48travel, gay crews and travel podcast.
- 14:51But that was so great to have people listen to my, to like
- 14:55actually meet someone that listened to my podcast because I
- 14:58know the numbers on this and it's fine.
- 15:01I love that there's like three or five of you that listen to
- 15:04this and you get some sort of enjoyment about it.
- 15:07But if there is some sort of point to this week's episode, I
- 15:10wasn't planning to talk about this for like 12 minutes or 14
- 15:14minutes. Yeah.
- 15:19Care as much as you want about how other people perceive you.
- 15:23Like I said with Kian's Instagram and Twitter and
- 15:27content, for example, yeah, it, it comes with that territory.
- 15:30It comes with that industry to to have a particular visual
- 15:36look. And yeah, like I for the content
- 15:40that goes up under Kian, yeah, it it's a lot more considered
- 15:46the content that I posted, not post.
- 15:49And yeah, the amount of editing and production that goes into
- 15:54that content, it's a lot higher and is it is a lot more work.
- 15:58But that's is the work of that industry.
- 16:00That is the work of that type of job.
- 16:04But when it comes to this like this right now, this is not,
- 16:09this is not key in content. This is not the only fans
- 16:12thirsty Instagram content. This is just like the podcast
- 16:16where I talk about again, where I talk about what I want.
- 16:19If you don't like it, you can switch off.
- 16:21Yeah, I think I'm going to. I, I want to keep this as a
- 16:23hobby. That means keeping it fun and
- 16:26doing the millions of edits that I kind of sort of get carried
- 16:31away with. I do 1 little edit and take away
- 16:341 little bit of the auto that doesn't sound quite perfect.
- 16:37And I keep going, going, going. I just can't spend 30 minutes
- 16:42editing every single episode of this podcast.
- 16:45Guys, I'm sorry. Well, I'm not sorry.
- 16:47Actually sorry is when you've done something wrong.
- 16:49I haven't done. I haven't done anything wrong.
- 16:51Just one of the things you learn when you do customer service in
- 16:54some companies, but some companies they teach you don't
- 16:59apologize unless the companies or you have actually done
- 17:04something wrong. But it's so easy.
- 17:06It's some of the companies who teach you.
- 17:07Oh, apologize anyways, always apologize if the customer is
- 17:11like voicing any criticism or something.
- 17:15Has they experiencing any sort of issue.
- 17:18It it just like whatever playbook.
- 17:20It depends on the playbook and the company and the organization
- 17:22you work for. I'm more of the I'm more of the
- 17:26thing that the two, the two times when I apologize when I'm
- 17:29actually really actually have done something wrong.
- 17:32The other time is just as a courtesy.
- 17:35It's in, in like everyday situation.
- 17:37It's like, I mean, those are usually when you've like kind of
- 17:40sort of done something wrong. It's like like you accidentally
- 17:44bump into someone or something like that.
- 17:45You say sorry, like you bumped into someone, you say sorry, but
- 17:47you probably should have bumped into someone.
- 17:50But anyways, yeah, I hesitated to bring that up because now the
- 17:54three or five of you are going to listen to the UMS and ahs and
- 17:57the likes. But honestly, if you listen for
- 18:02a while, the three or five of you that keep listening have
- 18:05listened for a while. That's what I know from the
- 18:07comments and you guys interacting with me.
- 18:11I think you're probably OK with it by now.
- 18:13But yeah, I didn't know that that could have made, I didn't
- 18:17know that that would have been 50 minutes of content.
- 18:19But it's more of a a general theme as well.
- 18:22Sometimes I just do things not, not just as podcast, just
- 18:25generally in daily life. And I think so much about how
- 18:28other people are going to perceive like what I do, what I
- 18:32say, what I wear, how I look, how I do my hair or how I'm not
- 18:36doing my hair. I I'm not doing my hair right
- 18:38now, for example. And I just kind of sort of don't
- 18:41want to anymore because I do so many other things for actual
- 18:47money as professionally as an actual business where like, OK,
- 18:50like the image is important with the skin care brand.
- 18:54My face is not on it. But hey, it's when we do the
- 18:57marketing, when we do like the website, when we do the social
- 19:00media, when we do the packaging, the, the visual's better.
- 19:04Even though it's not a person. But like the graphics design,
- 19:07like the, the visual, the visual story that we're telling with
- 19:12the marketing, with the graphics, with the images, with
- 19:14the brand, it really matters. It's very visual medium when we
- 19:18do marketing, even though the actual product itself, it's not
- 19:22really like it's not like a visual art type of our product
- 19:25skin care. Now, obviously with Kian, Kian
- 19:28needs to look like good, whatever you define good to be
- 19:34because hey, like that's that's the type of business that is.
- 19:38So I feel like maybe I spend so on the actual business that is
- 19:42generating revenue. By the way, this doesn't
- 19:44generate revenue on the actual things that are my professional
- 19:47businesses and actually generate money.
- 19:51I spend a lot of my energy in those businesses, the two day
- 19:55jobs, if you will, worrying and thinking and making sure that
- 20:01the visuals are good. That when I when it when it
- 20:04comes to this podcast. Where it's primarily an audio
- 20:10medium and I'm just doing this for fun.
- 20:14This isn't bringing me any money.
- 20:16Honestly. When your video gets 100 views
- 20:18on YouTube, even if you have monetization on, you get what, 2
- 20:22cents, $0.05 on a video Mama? That's not monetization.
- 20:27That's that's like if someone dropped some spare change by
- 20:31accident. So I'm not going to spend, you
- 20:35know, 30 minutes editing a video when it really should be just 5
- 20:38minutes on the edit for something that I should be doing
- 20:42for fun when the edits are not that enjoyable, but have to edit
- 20:45like 20 other videos that week for things to actually make you
- 20:48money. Yeah.
- 20:49Was that a rant? You know, almost every episode
- 20:52is a rant. You all should know by now.
- 20:54Yeah. But yeah, it was good to.
- 20:56It was good. It felt good to me to talk about
- 20:59that. And that's not me trying to say
- 21:03you shouldn't care what other people think of stuff you put on
- 21:09the Internet because like I said, I've got 2 businesses
- 21:13where I do care a lot how that brand slash my image is
- 21:19perceived. But you know, there are.
- 21:23I think it's nice to have aspects of your life where,
- 21:26yeah, you can. When you, when you go out or
- 21:29when you go to work, you want to dress a certain way.
- 21:31When you go to a meeting, when you meet clients.
- 21:34For certain people, you might want to look and present
- 21:38yourself in a certain way and give a certain impression.
- 21:40I think that's fine because I'm not saying like you should never
- 21:44care what what anybody thinks of you, because who cares what
- 21:49other people think? I think that's true to a certain
- 21:52extent. If you want to take that to the
- 21:55Max, like more power to you. I'm just saying there's no like
- 21:59right or wrong. There are a lot of people that
- 22:02will not let half a selfie of themselves go out unless they
- 22:06look perfect in it. And then they never do anything
- 22:10less than dressed to the nines before there's a camera insight
- 22:13or before they even open their front door.
- 22:16That's fine. What I'm trying to say is like,
- 22:18do what you think works for you. And I think that changes over
- 22:23time. Like I said, you know, as the
- 22:26years have gone on, I feel like that balance for me is
- 22:29different. And also because my life has
- 22:31become different, my environment and situation has become
- 22:34different. You know, like, what I do for
- 22:36work is different. The type of content I produce is
- 22:39different. So that evolves as well.
- 22:41But yeah, So what I'm trying to say is do what feels right for
- 22:46you. I think it's very easy to get
- 22:49swept away with to to to just blanketly say you shouldn't care
- 22:55what anybody thinks and kind of apply that in a blanket or
- 22:59encompassing way. Like that sounds like a very,
- 23:04that sounds very idealistic. And if you are comfortable
- 23:11embracing that in an idealistic or encompassing way, again, like
- 23:15that's great for you, but I like, that's not for me.
- 23:20And I think the, I think that's just finding what the balance
- 23:25that works for you. Sometimes, you know, you do want
- 23:28to look nice for, for whatever reason, Like I, I wear makeup
- 23:33sometimes when I, when I want to look nice, either for myself
- 23:36and, or to look nice for other people.
- 23:38Like if I'm going to go on a date, I'm probably going to do
- 23:41my hair. I'm probably going to think a
- 23:43little bit differently about what I'm going to wear.
- 23:45I'm probably going to think more about how I smell.
- 23:51Not that I think I usually smell bad, but like I might wear a
- 23:53little more deodorant and I might spritz on Cologne when,
- 23:57you know, I don't go to the gym. I don't usually spritz on
- 23:59Cologne like, you know, when I'm going to hang out with friends,
- 24:03like it's like I don't really need to impress them.
- 24:05But you go on a date, OK. It's a little different a
- 24:07situation though, and it's also up to your personal preference.
- 24:11So for me, this podcast is supposed to be my hobby.
- 24:16It's supposed to be fun, and editing for 30 minutes to take
- 24:20out the UMS and ahs and the likes isn't fun.
- 24:24So I think I'm just going to dial down the editing a little
- 24:26bit. There's also like a weird buzz
- 24:28that I sometimes hear with this microphone with this whatever
- 24:31since I've like rotated it 90°. I don't know if it's like the
- 24:36Fung stray is a little off when I rotate it and I'm sitting on
- 24:40the other side of the table or maybe I need to get like like a
- 24:45proper power strip, not like a windows cheapo power strips from
- 24:49Amazon for like 5 bucks. Like one of the nicest surge
- 24:52protector ones there might be like a little electrical noise
- 24:55or something coming in via the whatever.
- 24:57But like, anyways, see a lot of these things I don't want to say
- 25:00now you're going to listen to, oh, is there a buzz on the
- 25:02recording now? Oh, how many times does Joey say
- 25:05UMS and AWS and likes. So I actually hesitated to bring
- 25:09it up, but like, I really thought I have a feedback.
- 25:12My this thing was like asking people, does this bother you?
- 25:15But now I've decided it's not going to bother you because it's
- 25:19not going to bother me. Yeah.
- 25:23Anyways, that's kind of that's most of today's podcast.
- 25:28I've had it on my podcast to talk about list instead of A to
- 25:33do list. I have A to talk about list of
- 25:35topics to talk a little bit about the Drag Race All Stars 10
- 25:42premiere. But we are like a few weeks pass
- 25:46the premiere already. So I'm just going to have some
- 25:50like general thoughts about the All Star season so far.
- 25:54So if you don't care about Drag Race, feel free to end the
- 25:57podcast here. I will see you back again next
- 26:00week. And obviously for those Patreon
- 26:03subscribers, you are going to get your weekly uncut episode
- 26:07this weekend. By the way, I received a lot of
- 26:09great comments from the uncut episode that I posted to Patreon
- 26:14last week. Even for like the small number
- 26:17of Patreon subscribers, I felt like the comments lit up when I
- 26:21talked about when I alluded to someone like when I talked about
- 26:25in the PG fashion some of the boy stories I had from ADC
- 26:31Vegas. So if you're at all interested
- 26:35to hear what that episode was like, it was it was PG.
- 26:38It was not like R rated or anything like that.
- 26:41Feel free to like subscribe to my Patreon.
- 26:43You can do it really cheap. Only cost you like the mid tier
- 26:47that gets you, you know what even the the bottom, the $3 tier
- 26:52gets you to the uncut podcast episodes every week and also
- 26:56gets you there a free version of this one.
- 26:58So you just want to see just what some of the uncut episodes
- 27:02are like just for $3 a month. You can just do it for one month
- 27:05and you don't have to renew. You can just go out.
- 27:08Yeah, go to my Patreon. It's LinkedIn.
- 27:11The description below. You can listen to last week's
- 27:13uncut podcast where I talked about a few different boys
- 27:17stories from my time at EDC, which is such a mind fuck for
- 27:20me. And if you don't like it, then
- 27:24you know you don't have to renew for the $3.
- 27:26But as promised, I asked my Patreon subscribers, OK, I gave
- 27:33you like the preview, the PG version of some of the stuff
- 27:38that happened boy wise with at EDC.
- 27:43There is like one or two stories that I can go into in like
- 27:51graphical kind of explicit detail.
- 27:55Would you like that? And the overwhelm response was,
- 27:57yes, no, Patreon isn't for porn or like it's super explicit
- 28:03stuff because Patreon and I'm getting a phone call from
- 28:08somewhere that shouldn't be calling me.
- 28:10Patreon isn't for like super sexually explicit content, so
- 28:16but I still want to deliver that to my patron subscribers because
- 28:19they really want to hear it. So I'm going to find a way to do
- 28:24it and then I'm going to talk more about it on Patreon with my
- 28:27patron subscribers. So, but go check out my Patreon
- 28:31if you're at all curious, just $3 a month will get you to the
- 28:34full back library of the uncut episode.
- 28:36But last week's uncut episode was really, really well
- 28:40received. I got a lot of comments on it
- 28:42straight away. So if you want to just like
- 28:44spend like less than a less than a cost of a latte from
- 28:49Starbucks, but a latte, it's like 4 or $5 now at Starbucks
- 28:53for less than a cost of a single latte, a single coffee, you can
- 28:58get access to every single uncut episode.
- 29:01I think we have like 25 or so episodes now, including the
- 29:04slightly juicy one from last week and then later in June our
- 29:09release and other one that goes into some of the juicy details
- 29:15of one or two of the encounters I had at ABC Las Vegas.
- 29:18I think on this GPG public version of the podcast has as
- 29:22much as I can allude to. But anyways, just a plug for my
- 29:25Patreon. All right, so one of my earliest
- 29:29teenage obsessions was skin care.
- 29:31Instead of looking at toys in the kids section at the store, I
- 29:34was looking at moisturizers in the skin care section.
- 29:37As I grew up and navigated my sexuality, I saw that most of
- 29:40the beauty industry was aimed at feminine women, sometimes at
- 29:43masculine men, but everyone else was left out.
- 29:46It wasn't for someone like me with Surf Labs, I wanted to
- 29:50create a fun skin care experience for everyone.
- 29:52I'm pretty sure your skin doesn't care how mask or family
- 29:55you are or who you love, but I'm absolutely sure you need to take
- 29:58care of it. Check us out at Serve Labs dot
- 30:01COSERVELAB s.co and you can also find us on Instagram and Twitter
- 30:08at Serve Labs. Now on to some of my quick ish
- 30:14thoughts about Drag Race All Stars season 10.
- 30:19I'm really really trying to just keep this super super short but
- 30:22we'll see how it goes. Anytime I say I'm going to do
- 30:24something quickly on a podcast it's like 30 minutes but prove
- 30:28for the timing. Anyways, my my general thoughts
- 30:31is I like that they have this bracket system and I didn't know
- 30:35how they were going to sequence the episodes for the different
- 30:40brackets. So obviously at the premiere
- 30:43about 3 or 4 weeks ago, they released the 1st 2 episodes that
- 30:48week of the premiere. And then we're doing it is 3
- 30:52episodes for each of the brackets and there are three
- 30:55brackets, 6 Queens in each. And within the three, three
- 31:00episodes for each of the brackets, we get 3 Queens that
- 31:03advance the top three into the semifinals.
- 31:07And then the other 3 Queens are eliminated.
- 31:09But then there's some sort of twist where some of them can be
- 31:12brought back. I kind of sort of like this
- 31:16bracket system because it's new and I think it is kind of sort
- 31:21of entertaining. It's like, oh, we have 3
- 31:24episodes to get to know these six girls and see and kind of
- 31:30have the six girls really show what they are up to.
- 31:35Because when you get a regular episode of regular seasons of
- 31:39All Stars, the first like 3 or 4 episodes, you've got, I don't
- 31:44know, 161412 Queens all vying for airtime.
- 31:49And when you have 3 episodes for 6 Queens, I feel like everybody
- 31:54gets more airtime and everybody gets a bit more of a chance in
- 31:58each episodes. Just challenging each episode to
- 32:00kind of show a bit more. You're not fighting, you're just
- 32:04sharing airtime and stage space as much as like a regular
- 32:10episode where they're at least like another 8 or 10 or 12
- 32:14Queens around. And the fact that obviously no
- 32:16one goes home doing those 3 episodes means that you got 3
- 32:20episodes to you have 3 episodes airtime.
- 32:22So for someone like Irene, for example, in that first bracket
- 32:25where she only really had one episode before of of airtime and
- 32:30now she's got more less space to share and she's got the three
- 32:34full episodes. I kind of like that.
- 32:36And people tend to want to see the All Stars not be eliminated.
- 32:41You know, like the the All Stars all winners season, that was
- 32:45pretty popular because people got to see their favourites on
- 32:51multiple episodes. And I think that was one of the
- 32:54key things they probably thought about, you know what?
- 32:56We can't just eliminate someone after like a couple episodes
- 32:59because like the fans want to see their All Stars if it wasn't
- 33:03an All Star season. I think the dot viewer dynamic
- 33:07is different. But with the All Stars, I think
- 33:10I do like so far at least I do like this bracket system where
- 33:15every queen gets at least three episodes and they have to share
- 33:20less of a screen time with tons of other Queens.
- 33:24So we already done the first bracket.
- 33:26Irene was like a little bit of a surprised again, to be honest,
- 33:30we didn't really see much of Irene, what she had to offer her
- 33:35talent on her original season because again, she was only
- 33:38there for that one episode. And so she was a bit of a
- 33:42surprise just because you know, when you get kicked off the when
- 33:48you kicked off the first challenge in your original
- 33:51season, expectations aren't high for you coming back, but you
- 33:55feel like, oh, you're the first one to go home.
- 33:56Is is never an amiable position to be in.
- 33:59And it kind of always perception wise put you a peg down compared
- 34:03to everyone else that made it like further on in the original
- 34:07season or in a previous season. But yes, IBM was a bit of a a
- 34:13surprise only because of that. And then, yeah, like Bosco, she
- 34:17was strong on her season and you can clearly see that she's like,
- 34:22she's gone better. Censor season.
- 34:25I've talked about, you know, it's so great when Queens come
- 34:28back for a second, a third or fourth or whatever for another
- 34:31season of Drag Race when they have been off for a while to see
- 34:36that they have stepped it up. They have gained more skills and
- 34:39experience. They leveled up, you know, like
- 34:41their fashion, their makeup. They glow up generally.
- 34:45And that's great to see. And I think we saw that probably
- 34:48with Irene, but like, again, like not a lot of point of
- 34:51reference. And then but like with Bosco, I
- 34:53think that happened as well. Yeah.
- 34:56One of the fun things so far is seeing this like MVQ points
- 35:01thing where Queens are giving each other points.
- 35:04And I guess that's kind of sort of foreseeable to know that in a
- 35:07lot of All Star seasons recently, Queens would be given
- 35:11points to other Queens. You know, All Star rules are
- 35:15kind of sort of has that element in it these days, the last
- 35:20several All Star seasons where it's not just what the judges
- 35:23think, it's what your fellow competitors think and they have
- 35:27some sway in determining the outcome.
- 35:31So the MVQ point I think was like a decent way, a good way to
- 35:35do that. But I didn't expect that to be
- 35:38like a possible three-way tie for third place in the third
- 35:44episode, the final episode for the first bracket.
- 35:47So that was like pretty interesting to see.
- 35:50And also seeing how quickly alliances are forming.
- 35:54And when you have such a small, like smaller group of Queens,
- 35:58you have 6 Queens and then the alliances you form are small
- 36:02when you have like a larger pool of Queens, like 10 or 12 or 14
- 36:05Queens in like a more regular All Star season.
- 36:08And then you form alliances that way.
- 36:11You know, I think it's a little easier when you know, when you
- 36:15have 6 Queens to form alliances with, like some of those
- 36:17alliances overlap. And it, that's what we saw and
- 36:20it kind of sort of like blew up a little bit.
- 36:23I mean that what think of you think about think when you were
- 36:25about alliances. I feel like when there's only 6
- 36:29Queens in the room and there's like 3 episodes, the way the
- 36:33brackets are set up, I think you just have to be very careful
- 36:38sending up alliances. Not that they're a bad thing,
- 36:41but we just saw in the first bracket how when you have
- 36:44overlapping alliances and when you only have 6 Queens in the
- 36:48workroom that are the same 6 Queens over multiple episodes,
- 36:53it's hard to keep the alliances a secret.
- 36:59And part of what a part of making the alliance work is that
- 37:03it's a secret. So on some of the other Queens,
- 37:07I mean, I thought very quickly, I thought Bosco and Irene, I
- 37:12think after the first episode it was pretty clear like Bosco was
- 37:14going to go to the top. Irene was probably a favorite to
- 37:17be in the top three as well. And then beyond that, I thought
- 37:21Aja would probably be in the top three, but I didn't expect that
- 37:25Aja would just be like by the skin of her teeth to get up to
- 37:29the top three. I think I didn't expect Olivia
- 37:32to to be so try hard about manicuring her image, for a lack
- 37:42of a better term. She seemed very concerned about
- 37:46how she was going to be perceived or how she was going
- 37:50to like behave in the workroom. And I think, I think it worked
- 37:57for me. It worked against her.
- 37:59And that was apparent in the first episode where she wanted
- 38:02to come out as she wanted to present, represent herself as
- 38:06someone who was not a pushover, someone who was not going to be,
- 38:11you know, swaying with whatever direction and when it's going to
- 38:14go, which is great. But I felt like she was trying
- 38:19to force a narrative that wasn't genuine.
- 38:23She was trying to assert a dominance that wasn't really
- 38:27there. It didn't come off as a result.
- 38:31It didn't really work. You know, it's, it's right that
- 38:34hard to force something that isn't there.
- 38:36You know, when you're on stage, that's a little different for
- 38:39like a challenge. But when you're trying to trying
- 38:42to push through a persona in the workroom that isn't really
- 38:48there, I I think it's, I think that's very difficult.
- 38:54And I think it doesn't work because the girls are going to,
- 38:58girls are going to see it. You know, you can say like, I'm
- 39:01going to, I'm not a pushover. I'm going to get what I want.
- 39:05I'm going to be assortive. If you can't actually be
- 39:08assertive and actually not be a pushover, Yeah.
- 39:10But just saying it and making a fuss doesn't make you those
- 39:14things. And I feel like Olivia was like
- 39:17trying so hard to push something that I didn't see it was there.
- 39:23And I think it just kind of backfired on her.
- 39:27And I, I, I don't know if it affected her performances in the
- 39:31challenges or not. It just didn't work for me.
- 39:34It just what she was trying to the, the, the persona she was
- 39:37trying to put out, it just didn't work for me.
- 39:41Also, being Phoenix would be a little bit stronger.
- 39:44She's one of the OG Queens, been in the game for so long and
- 39:48she's like, she's she does drag and she does productions and
- 39:52things like that for so many years now.
- 39:53I thought she would be a little bit stronger.
- 39:56Obviously it's a pretty strong set of Queens, but I I thought
- 39:59she would actually be like, she was my underdog going.
- 40:02I'm thinking like, you know what?
- 40:03A lot of people haven't seen Phoenix in a long time on the
- 40:05show, but she's been doing drag for so many years that she must
- 40:10have some. Like she must have some shit to
- 40:14bring to the table in All Stars. But unfortunately that didn't
- 40:18materialize. Deja was just, they just got
- 40:20just kind of there. Yeah, she was kind of just, she
- 40:27was just kind of there for me. I need to rewatch.
- 40:31So that's the first bracket, that first 3 episodes.
- 40:33The 4th episode was the first episode of the second bracket.
- 40:36And we got George's Carrie Kobe, Lydia Collins, Mistress Isabel
- 40:40Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Tina Burner.
- 40:44And I need to go back and rewatch that first episode of
- 40:47the second bracket. So episode 4, because I had just
- 40:51gone back from EDC for like a few days and like I felt like I
- 40:54wasn't quite in a state to it was like sit down and actually
- 40:57watch it properly, properly. I know tomorrow the 2nd episode
- 41:00is going to go up. So tomorrow on Friday before I
- 41:04watch episode 5, I'm going to go watch episode 4 again before I
- 41:09stream the new one because I wasn't paying like full, full
- 41:12attention. But honestly, George's is going
- 41:16to go through. Let's just do some predictions
- 41:18to end the podcast. I'm going to talk forever and
- 41:21maybe in a in a couple weeks I have more thoughts about the
- 41:23bracket when it's all done. George, it's going to go
- 41:25through. I think George because
- 41:28favourites. Miss Rue loves her.
- 41:30I think George's would go through.
- 41:32I think I I had mistress to also go through, but I feel like
- 41:39mistress can really bring it. I feel like she's so smart.
- 41:42She knows how to play the game. I think she knows what it takes
- 41:46to at least to make into the semis.
- 41:49I don't think she I don't think she was in the top three for the
- 41:53first in that in the last week's episode, though, So but I feel
- 41:58like Mistress is a strong queen. I'm, I, I, I don't think Nicole
- 42:04is going to make it to the top three.
- 42:07I think Tina won. So like Tina could be a bit of a
- 42:10dark horse, but like, I think, I think it could be like George's,
- 42:16George's mistress. And then maybe either like Lydia
- 42:21or Tina will be top three. I think of those four, three of
- 42:28them are going to go through just based on last week's
- 42:33episode, I feel like maybe Tina is a bit stronger than I
- 42:38expected and maybe just based on that one episode, Mistress is
- 42:42not quite doing it compared to some of the Queens.
- 42:44So maybe it could be like Georges, Tina and maybe Lydia
- 42:52going through to the top three on the current trajectory.
- 42:56But obviously we're just one episode down, so I'm interested
- 42:59to see how the other two episodes for this bracket shakes
- 43:02out. I love George's.
- 43:04I think she's so entertaining to watch.
- 43:07Like the personality, like the personality is right there.
- 43:11The charm, the charisma, the the uniqueness, the nerve, the
- 43:16talent, like it's, it's all there.
- 43:19I'm so just so entertaining. Even when she's like not like
- 43:23actively performing. It's like the personality to
- 43:26charisma is so hard to like you can't build that baby.
- 43:30That's just who you are. So I can see why loves her so
- 43:35much. But I'm a fan of Georgia.
- 43:36I actually really like Carrie Kobe.
- 43:38I feel like if there was one person, I would love to be in
- 43:43the top three, even though I think objectively might not get
- 43:46there. That's Carrie Kobe for me
- 43:49because I I love her look. She's beautiful and gorgeous,
- 43:55yes, but I feel like she does have talent and she does have
- 43:59like the charisma and the personality.
- 44:02I think she just wasn't in she just didn't really show it that
- 44:06much in her first season because she was too concerned about
- 44:09looking pretty. But I really feel like in the
- 44:12time that has passed since or original season to now, I think
- 44:17she has really learned that lesson and I think she can
- 44:22actually like get into the top three and be like a worthy top
- 44:27three for the semis. So obviously the first episode
- 44:33we had was like a ball. So you know it.
- 44:37It's like fashion. So I'm really interested.
- 44:39I want Kerry to be in the topic personally, because I think it's
- 44:44such a great story. When you see a queen that has
- 44:47like taken all the notes, put in the hard work in the time since
- 44:51the original season and they've had this like major glow up,
- 44:54major step up and to come back the All Stars and rocket.
- 44:58I love to see that story. That is so great.
- 45:00I I I just really hope that she just lets it all loose and just
- 45:06gives it everything in the three episodes, even if she doesn't
- 45:10make it to the top three. But I think that's like the best
- 45:13thing that could happen for her. But like I I'm, I'm rooting for
- 45:17her even though I think statistically the odds looking
- 45:21at the other Queens it it's a it's a tough crowd.
- 45:24Yeah. So those are I don't know how
- 45:26quick or not quick that was. But anyways, this is some of my
- 45:28thoughts on Jack Race All Stars season 10.
- 45:32Thank you for listening to another episode of He's Hot.
- 45:35But something is off and it's Wednesday morning.
- 45:40It's just past 11. So I'm going to edit this.
- 45:43I'm going to do a 5 to 10 minute edit on this one.
- 45:46I'm not going to sit there for 30 minutes just picking out the
- 45:49UMS and awesome likes anymore. And then I'm going to go to the
- 45:52gym. All right, until the next time.
- 45:54Bye y'all.
