- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:05Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning, happy Wednesday. Your headlines are brought to you
- 0:09Speaker 2: by Frost Brewed Coors Light. That's as cold as the Rockies,
- 0:13Speaker 2: don't you know?
- 0:14Speaker 3: I could use some of that.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Right now at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yeah, sometimes I go to island time.
- 0:23Speaker 2: The Seahawks, you know about the trade yesterday that John
- 0:25Speaker 2: Schneider pulled off. We're going to talk about the history
- 0:27Speaker 2: of John Schneider's midseason trades, why they happened. and what
- 0:30Speaker 2: the pattern is that Quentin Nelson fits. All-pro left guard
- 0:35Speaker 2: coming in. How's it go with Gray Zabel? How's it
- 0:37Speaker 2: go with Anthony Bradford? We're going to start finding out
- 0:40Speaker 2: more about that tomorrow when the Seahawks are back on
- 0:42Speaker 2: the practice field. They are off the field today. They
- 0:44Speaker 2: are preparing meetings and inside for the Bears game on
- 0:49Speaker 2: Monday night, but they're on the field again tomorrow. Everything
- 0:51Speaker 2: pushed back a week, so Thursday is a Wednesday and
- 0:54Speaker 2: Friday is a Thursday and all that silliness. Monday night,
- 0:57Speaker 2: Seahawks against the 5-2 Seahawks. Chicago Bears. We're going to
- 1:00Speaker 2: talk live from Chicago with Brad Biggs, beat writer for
- 1:04Speaker 2: the Chicago Tribune. Been covering the Bears since 2001. As
- 1:07Speaker 2: long as I've been covering the NFL, he's been covering
- 1:09Speaker 2: the Bears. We're going to talk to him live about
- 1:10Speaker 2: Caleb Williams.
- 1:11Speaker 3: He's the best source we could get, yes.
- 1:13Speaker 2: The Colts didn't just trade Quentin Nelson. They're doing fire
- 1:16Speaker 2: sale mode. They traded DeForest Buckner, the defensive lineman, back
- 1:19Speaker 2: to where he first starred in the NFL to the 49ers.
- 1:23Speaker 3: We don't like that so much for our division.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Is Jonathan Taylor the next to come out of Indianapolis?
- 1:29Speaker 2: There's a link, a Seahawks link, to the current GM
- 1:32Speaker 2: of the general manager of the Colts. We're going to
- 1:34Speaker 2: talk about that as well. Links to John Schneider. The
- 1:38Speaker 2: Chiefs this morning, my buddy, our buddy, we heard last week,
- 1:41Speaker 2: Sam McDowell, the Kansas City star. He had the scoop
- 1:43Speaker 2: this morning that the Chiefs are signing former Ravens troubled
- 1:47Speaker 2: kicker Justin Tucker to the practice squad. We all remember
- 1:51Speaker 2: Justin Tucker, don't we? He's going to the practice squad
- 1:56Speaker 2: of the Chiefs. He's been out of the league. since
- 1:59Speaker 2: the Ravens cut him, remember. 35 years old, he was
- 2:03Speaker 2: recused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists from eight
- 2:07Speaker 2: high-end spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area, according
- 2:10Speaker 2: to the Baltimore Banner. All the alleged misconduct reportedly occurred
- 2:14Speaker 2: between 2012 and 2016 during Tucker's first five seasons in
- 2:18Speaker 2: the NFL, and now he's signing with the Chiefs practice
- 2:20Speaker 2: squad instead of not having a job. That's how it
- 2:24Speaker 2: goes in the NFL. Crack him! They host Toronto Night
- 2:28Speaker 2: 630 pregame with Mike Benton. 7 o'clock puck drop for
- 2:31Speaker 2: national television right here on 93.3 KJR FM. The Sounders
- 2:35Speaker 2: are also playing tonight. Your home of the Sounders tonight
- 2:37Speaker 2: is going to be on the 9.50 a.m. side for
- 2:39Speaker 2: KJR because they are home against the Houston Dynamo at
- 2:43Speaker 2: 7.30 at Lumen Field. World Series last night. Well, they
- 2:47Speaker 2: forced a fifth game tonight. It's going to be a
- 2:48Speaker 2: fifth game in Tampa Bay because the Rays came back
- 2:52Speaker 2: from 3-2 down in the top of the 12th. Looks
- 2:54Speaker 2: like the Brewers are going to win the title tonight.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Tampa Bay Stormback won the air and four singles. And
- 2:59Speaker 2: we're going to talk about those four singles. Here was
- 3:02Speaker 2: the last one. That was a cool call. That was
- 3:13Speaker 2: back the homage to the great. I mean, Jack Buck's
- 3:18Speaker 2: call of Curry Puckett's home run in game six of
- 3:20Speaker 2: the Twins Braves World Series in 1991, I believe it was.
- 3:25Speaker 2: We'll see you tomorrow night after a Game 6 walk-off.
- 3:28Speaker 2: And then the Sun Joe Buck did it. Cardinals, Rangers,
- 3:32Speaker 2: and Game 6.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I just think it's cool.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it was cool. Joe Davis last night for Fox Television.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Later tonight, because it was past midnight in St. Petersburg, Florida,
- 3:40Speaker 2: when that hit came in. We're going to talk about
- 3:42Speaker 2: those hits in particular. We're going to talk about the Brewers'
- 3:45Speaker 2: 8-run inning in Game 3 that had them seize control.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And I wonder if Jerry DiPoto's watching tonight. the World Series.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I hope he's watching it closely.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I would imagine so.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean, really closely. Like, maybe they should do
- 3:58Speaker 2: what they're doing on television. Maybe he could do it
- 4:01Speaker 2: in Seattle, perhaps. NBA, Minnesota star and league MVP candidate
- 4:05Speaker 2: Anthony Edwards needs arthroscopic knee surgery. Could miss two months.
- 4:08Speaker 2: The Kraken, I mentioned, are playing tonight. The Washington Huskies
- 4:11Speaker 2: are playing on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Nebraska. Jed
- 4:15Speaker 2: Fisto keeping everyone guessing whether Elijah Brown or DeMond Williams
- 4:17Speaker 2: starts a quarterback for UW. And Jessamyn's Washington State. Cougars
- 4:21Speaker 2: are playing at Washington State. Excuse me, at San Diego State.
- 4:25Speaker 4: San Diego.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:26Speaker 2: It's not an inter-squad scrimmage. They're playing at San Diego
- 4:29Speaker 2: State on Saturday. Now on with the Wednesday show. Good morning.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Mark Morrison says good morning wherever he is in Great
- 4:35Speaker 2: Britain or Germany or other places he's been. I'll find him.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Jessamyn's going to track him down.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Hey, listen, you give this dog a bone, and she's
- 4:43Speaker 3: going to figure it out.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I see that. Happy Wednesday to you, Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We're here every weekday, 10 a.m. to noon on 93.3 KGRFM.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'm usually at Seahawk headquarters, but I'm not there today
- 4:55Speaker 2: because they're not practicing on the field, and they're not
- 4:58Speaker 2: having any media availability.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Because today is Tuesday.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Correct. Today is another Tuesday in NFL Seahawks world this week. Why?
- 5:05Speaker 2: Because of the Monday night game. They push everything back
- 5:08Speaker 2: a day. They practice fully on Saturday. And then the
- 5:11Speaker 2: day before is actually the Sunday instead of the Saturday
- 5:13Speaker 2: this week. So it goes. That's why I'm here in
- 5:16Speaker 2: the studio. Good morning, ma'am.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 5:18Speaker 5: The Bears are practicing. And we'll hear from Brad Biggs
- 5:21Speaker 5: about that. But they are practicing today, which is why
- 5:24Speaker 5: we're going to bump up our opponent matchup segment to 10-20.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll do that at 10-20. Brad Biggs, as I mentioned,
- 5:30Speaker 2: he's been covering the Bears as long as I've been
- 5:32Speaker 2: covering the NFL. 2001 was his first season on the Bears.
- 5:36Speaker 2: He's going to talk to us from the Chicago Tribune.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The Bears, of course, practice today because they're going to
- 5:40Speaker 2: use a day to travel west from Chicago to Seattle
- 5:44Speaker 2: this weekend. Five and two Bears. Caleb Williams is back healthy,
- 5:47Speaker 2: the quarterback of the Bears, who seems to fit perfectly
- 5:49Speaker 2: Ben Johnson's offense. We're going to talk to Brad Biggs
- 5:52Speaker 2: about that. What's up with Roma Dunze? When you look
- 5:56Speaker 2: at the stats of the Chicago Bears, the former UW
- 5:58Speaker 2: Washington Husky star, I mean, everyone thought he'd have a
- 6:02Speaker 2: meteoric start to his career. He's like Fourth or fifth
- 6:04Speaker 2: on the Bears receiving list. Way down the list of
- 6:08Speaker 2: leading receivers on the Bears. We're going to ask about
- 6:10Speaker 2: how Roma Dunze is doing in Chicago and what might
- 6:13Speaker 2: be slowing him a little bit. The Brewers and the Rays,
- 6:17Speaker 2: when I watch the World Series, it just strikes me
- 6:21Speaker 2: how many balls up the middle opposite. We talked about
- 6:24Speaker 2: up the middle opposite, up the middle opposite.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It's like the opposite of the Mariners. The Mariners, everything
- 6:29Speaker 2: is pool. Launch angles, exit velocities, pool the ball, strikeout,
- 6:34Speaker 2: 12 strikeouts a game. We're going to talk about how
- 6:39Speaker 2: the Rays and the Brewers hit the ball. They don't
- 6:42Speaker 2: try to– yeah, I know the Brewers hit the go-ahead
- 6:45Speaker 2: home run on the top of the 12th inning last night.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But the key inning of the series that turned it
- 6:51Speaker 2: into a 3-0 lead for Milwaukee and now has the
- 6:54Speaker 2: Rays in desperation mode, That eight-run inning was up the
- 6:58Speaker 2: middle opposite. Up the middle opposite. And last night, we're
- 7:02Speaker 2: going to detail the four hits, including Ben Williamson's chop,
- 7:05Speaker 2: to the opposite field. Up the middle opposite. I used
- 7:08Speaker 2: to tell my kids all the time I coached varsity
- 7:10Speaker 2: high school baseball. Up the middle opposite. Think up the
- 7:13Speaker 2: middle opposite. Be late on the fastball, and if you're ahead,
- 7:17Speaker 2: then you're ahead on off speeds and breaking pitches. But
- 7:20Speaker 2: up the middle opposite. And that's exactly opposite of how
- 7:22Speaker 2: the Mariners have done the last few years under Jerry
- 7:24Speaker 2: DePoto and all the guys that he's had in the
- 7:26Speaker 2: dugout and a hitting coach. And if the Mariners truly
- 7:29Speaker 2: are going to change, like Jerry DePoto said, we have
- 7:31Speaker 2: to change, right? We're going to bring in a new manager.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Hopefully it's someone with a fresh idea and a new
- 7:36Speaker 2: look than what we've been doing. The change needs to
- 7:38Speaker 2: start right there with their hitting approach. Turn on the
- 7:42Speaker 2: damn television and watch what the Brewers and the Rays
- 7:44Speaker 2: are doing and do that. Bring in coaches, bring in
- 7:48Speaker 2: guys who hit like Cole Young does. So that's the
- 7:54Speaker 2: key to me is they're really going to be changing
- 7:56Speaker 2: Seattle with the Mariners in their offense. Then they need
- 7:59Speaker 2: to do that. And that's a fundamental thing. It's going
- 8:01Speaker 2: to take a long time because you've got to bring
- 8:03Speaker 2: in coaches. You've got to bring in players. You've got
- 8:04Speaker 2: to bring it in your minor league system. You've got
- 8:06Speaker 2: to drill it and have it as a new philosophy.
- 8:09Speaker 2: This let's hit the ball to Mercer Island if you're
- 8:12Speaker 2: a left-handed hitter or let's hit it to Edmonds if
- 8:13Speaker 2: you're a right-handed hitter is failing.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I have yet to receive one on my porch.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I know. They don't happen, but they try to. They
- 8:20Speaker 2: try to hit Jesselman and Mike's porch every single time
- 8:23Speaker 2: a right-hander's up, and they try to hit it onto
- 8:25Speaker 2: Mercer Island every time a left-hander. It doesn't matter the situation.
- 8:27Speaker 2: We've all seen it. Drives us nuts. And then we
- 8:31Speaker 2: turn on the World Series between the two best teams
- 8:33Speaker 2: in baseball buying for the title that the Mariners have
- 8:35Speaker 2: never won, let alone never played for, never even played for.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Shouldn't somebody in Seattle's organization go, hey, maybe this is
- 8:44Speaker 2: the way to get there? Maybe how we're doing it
- 8:47Speaker 2: in our pitcher-friendly park ain't working. Let's hit the ball
- 8:51Speaker 2: to the gaps. Let's hit it up the middle. Let's
- 8:53Speaker 2: go opposite field. And let's get guys who do that.
- 8:57Speaker 2: And let's see how that works with our pitching staff.
- 8:59Speaker 2: It sure would be different, wouldn't it? Isn't the definition
- 9:02Speaker 2: of insanity doing the same thing over and over again?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And it's failing? Even though it failed?
- 9:06Speaker 3: And never seeing different results.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Which is what exit velocity and launch angles are. Get
- 9:11Speaker 2: rid of those on our television broadcasts of Mariners games.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Can we do that as a start? Can we start there?
- 9:17Speaker 2: Exit velocity. He hit that 104 miles an hour. So what?
- 9:20Speaker 2: It's an out. I don't care how fast the ball
- 9:26Speaker 2: went off the bat. I want to know where the
- 9:27Speaker 2: guy is after he hit it. Is he on first base?
- 9:30Speaker 2: If he's not, then it doesn't matter how hard he
- 9:31Speaker 2: hit it.
- 9:32Speaker 3: That's true.
- 9:34Speaker 5: I mean, it's a sack to grow on, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 5: to see the next at-bat for that person.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But I get what you're saying.
- 9:43Speaker 2: If they truly are going to change, that's where they
- 9:45Speaker 2: have to change. Watch the Rays and the Brewers, how
- 9:49Speaker 2: they play baseball. It's playing baseball. Ben Williamson, first pitch,
- 9:54Speaker 2: bases loaded with the season on the line. Tie game
- 9:56Speaker 2: in the World Series. In the 12th inning, what's he do?
- 10:00Speaker 2: A chopper to the right side over a drawn-in infield
- 10:02Speaker 2: game over. He wasn't trying to hit it into the
- 10:05Speaker 2: left field upper deck. Right-handed hitter, hit it to the
- 10:07Speaker 2: right side. If he puts it in play, you put
- 10:10Speaker 2: the onus on the defense to make a play at
- 10:12Speaker 2: the plate. What's wrong with that? I don't see anything
- 10:17Speaker 2: wrong with that. I mean, the two teams that are
- 10:19Speaker 2: in the World Series don't see anything wrong with it either.
- 10:21Speaker 2: 11 a.m., we're going to talk about John Schneider's track
- 10:24Speaker 2: record of midseason trades. They strongly suggest, that track record
- 10:28Speaker 2: strongly suggests what he's going to do with Quentin Nelson
- 10:30Speaker 2: beyond this year. Nelson's contract is ending. $ 80 million deal
- 10:33Speaker 2: with the Colts. By the way, I got a lot
- 10:36Speaker 2: of texts and even emails about three-time All-Pro for Quentin Nelson.
- 10:42Speaker 2: First-team All-Pro is all that counts. That's all that matters
- 10:44Speaker 2: in contracts. That's all that matters in bonus clauses. That's
- 10:47Speaker 2: all that matters around the league.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, pro-world is not anything anymore.
- 10:51Speaker 2: But second-team all-pro is not it. It's first-team all-pro. That's
- 10:56Speaker 2: the currency in the league. So people are saying, well,
- 10:58Speaker 2: I'm shortchanging Quentin Nelson because I don't say he's a
- 11:00Speaker 2: six-time all-pro because he has three first-team and three second-team.
- 11:03Speaker 2: First-team all-pro is what I'm talking about. Everything else is
- 11:07Speaker 2: just orange slices at halftime. First team all pro is
- 11:12Speaker 2: what matters most. 11.30, we'll read back your texts and
- 11:14Speaker 2: talkbacks on the Tacoma Dodge text line 49451, the talkbacks
- 11:17Speaker 2: on the iHeartRadio app or our website, 933KJR. com, The Greg
- 11:21Speaker 2: Bell Show. 11.35, Factor Fiction, your latest chance to win $ 1, 000. Again,
- 11:25Speaker 2: the abridged version. At 11.35, if you want to win $ 1, 000,
- 11:28Speaker 2: text FACT to 49451. If you don't, text FICTION to 49451,
- 11:31Speaker 2: and that'll send you on your way to winning $.
- 11:33Speaker 7: 1, 000.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Then Ian Furness will join us to talk about what
- 11:37Speaker 2: he has on the show from 12 until 3 p.m.
- 11:39Speaker 2: First question for the text line, 49451. What should the
- 11:43Speaker 2: Seahawks do with three starting guards and two spots? What
- 11:46Speaker 2: would you do with Gray Zabel? What would you like
- 11:48Speaker 2: to see Anthony Bradford do? What would you like to
- 11:50Speaker 2: see the new guy, Quentin Nelson, do starting Monday night
- 11:54Speaker 2: against Chicago? How about the Bears? Let's talk about them next.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Caleb Williams, perfect fit for Ben Johnson's office. What's up
- 12:00Speaker 2: with Roma Dunzey in Chicago? And do the Bears have
- 12:03Speaker 2: what Hugh Millen would call a pigeon on their defense
- 12:05Speaker 2: that the Seahawks and Jackson Smith and Jigma may be targeting?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Brad Biggs, Chicago Tribune, joins us next live from Chicago.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The Bears beat right our next on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre knows what day the Seahawks are playing.
- 12:35Speaker 5: I do.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Monday night. That's the Monday night football countdown music. Brad
- 12:40Speaker 2: Biggs is going to be there in the stadium in
- 12:42Speaker 2: Seattle in Loman Field for Monday night's Chicago Bears-Seattle Seahawks game.
- 12:46Speaker 2: He joins us live on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline from
- 12:49Speaker 2: Bears headquarters, I suppose. And I think it's still, is
- 12:52Speaker 2: it Lake Forest?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Let's ask Brad.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I can't remember exactly where the Bears facility was. Hello, Brad.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us on the show. Good afternoon. Hey,
- 13:02Speaker 2: how's it going today? We are doing well, sir. Thank you.
- 13:06Speaker 2: The Bears are doing well, 5-2, and their offense seems
- 13:09Speaker 2: to be just humming with Caleb Webb. You've covered this
- 13:11Speaker 2: team a long time. The Bears' history of quarterbacks is
- 13:14Speaker 2: pretty litany of them, to say the least. But now
- 13:18Speaker 2: they have a whiz-bang offensive coordinator with a quarterback who
- 13:21Speaker 2: seems to fit him perfectly.
- 13:22Speaker 4: 71% passer.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Five interceptions, excuse me, five touchdowns with just one interception,
- 13:27Speaker 2: 12 sacks in seven games. What makes Caleb Williams the
- 13:32Speaker 2: fit for Ben Johnson? And then, first of all, how
- 13:35Speaker 2: healthy is he now?
- 13:35Speaker 6: Well, I think Caleb's pretty healthy. Some people speculated that
- 13:42Speaker 6: maybe he took a couple sacks in the last two ballgames,
- 13:46Speaker 6: seven sacks over the last two ballgames, wins over Atlanta
- 13:49Speaker 6: and New England because he– Didn't want to cut it
- 13:55Speaker 6: loose with his legs coming off the hamstring injury that
- 13:59Speaker 6: cost him three ballgames earlier this season. I'm not sure
- 14:02Speaker 6: that's the case. Yeah, I think he's fully healthy. What
- 14:06Speaker 6: makes him go is he's just got an enormous amount
- 14:11Speaker 6: of talent. Talk about the ability to escape the pocket
- 14:16Speaker 6: and create with second reaction plays. He's got all the
- 14:21Speaker 6: arm strength in the world. and he's been a lot
- 14:26Speaker 6: more accurate this season. He was the NFL's least accurate
- 14:30Speaker 6: quarterback in 2025, and all of a sudden he's the
- 14:35Speaker 6: most accurate in 2026. They put forth some goals for
- 14:40Speaker 6: Caleb since Ben Johnson arrived, and one of the first
- 14:45Speaker 6: orders of business a year ago was, hey, we've got
- 14:48Speaker 6: to drastically– reduce the number of sacks that you're taking.
- 14:52Speaker 6: He had 68 sacks as a rookie in 2024 to
- 14:56Speaker 6: lead the NFL. And I think most people understand that
- 15:00Speaker 6: sacks are an offensive line statistic, but they're also, in
- 15:06Speaker 6: a lot of instances, a quarterback statistic. Like, you know,
- 15:09Speaker 6: how could we have avoided the sack in this situation?
- 15:14Speaker 6: He took that to heart last year. I think he
- 15:15Speaker 6: was only sacked 24 times in 2025, dramatically reduced it.
- 15:21Speaker 6: And then one of the things they talked about this
- 15:22Speaker 6: past offseason was, hey, need to bump up the completion percentage,
- 15:28Speaker 6: need to hit some more of these easy throws to
- 15:32Speaker 6: keep drives alive, to be in a second and three
- 15:37Speaker 6: instead of a second and ten. And he's done that.
- 15:40Speaker 6: So he's playing at a high level right now. and
- 15:43Speaker 6: given them an awful lot of confidence.
- 15:45Speaker 2: The numbers are stark. 58% last year as a passer,
- 15:49Speaker 2: and now 71%. Brad Biggs, is it that he's checking
- 15:53Speaker 2: down more, or is Ben Johnson giving him higher percentage throws?
- 15:57Speaker 2: Is he throwing more quickly? What do you cite as
- 15:59Speaker 2: this factor there for 13%?
- 16:00Speaker 6: Yeah, the ball's coming out of his hands on average quicker,
- 16:05Speaker 6: so he's taking some more of those short throws that
- 16:10Speaker 6: he was turning down last year.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Or.
- 16:13Speaker 6: probably in some instances, not seen. So there's a little
- 16:17Speaker 6: bit of that, but he's, he's still got that deep ball.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Like he's, and he's got options, uh, on the outside.
- 16:25Speaker 6: Like they had, um, heck a play a week ago
- 16:29Speaker 6: or last Thursday against, uh, new England where they were, uh,
- 16:34Speaker 6: backed up near their own goal line. And it's third
- 16:37Speaker 6: and long. I want to say it was like third
- 16:40Speaker 6: and 15, it was third and 12 plus, and he
- 16:45Speaker 6: just uncorked a laser to Roma Dunze, the UW product
- 16:51Speaker 6: for first down, a super tight window throw. So, yeah,
- 16:56Speaker 6: to answer your question, it's taking more of the gimmies,
- 17:00Speaker 6: if you will, the quick throws, getting the ball out
- 17:03Speaker 6: of his hand quicker, playing on schedule with a little
- 17:07Speaker 6: more regularity, But the flair for the dramatic in the
- 17:13Speaker 6: throw-down field, all that stuff's still there for him. He's
- 17:17Speaker 6: got an enormous number of clubs in his bag, if
- 17:22Speaker 6: you will.
- 17:24Speaker 2: This is the voice of Brad Biggs. He's covered the
- 17:26Speaker 2: Bears for a long time. As long as I've covered
- 17:28Speaker 2: the NFL, he's covered the Bears. Since 2001, the Chicago
- 17:31Speaker 2: Tribune beat writer joining us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 17:33Speaker 2: from Illinois. before the Bears and Brad Biggs head out
- 17:36Speaker 2: to Seattle for the Monday night game against the Seahawks.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Let's talk about Roma Dunze. It just tore it up
- 17:42Speaker 2: for the Washington Huskies all the way to the national
- 17:44Speaker 2: championship game. Yet when I look at the Bears statistically,
- 17:48Speaker 2: I see that three receivers have more catches than Roma
- 17:50Speaker 2: Dunze does. Yet Dunze is averaging 16 yards per catch,
- 17:54Speaker 2: like you mentioned the play just a minute ago about
- 17:56Speaker 2: down the field. Where is Dunze in the progress? What's
- 17:59Speaker 2: the Roma Dunze experience in Chicago been like so far? Yeah,
- 18:04Speaker 2: you know, it's interesting.
- 18:05Speaker 6: He got off to a really hot start last season.
- 18:13Speaker 6: I think he scored five touchdowns in the first four
- 18:17Speaker 6: games a year ago. Was by far the most targeted
- 18:21Speaker 6: receiver they had in the offense. And then he got...
- 18:27Speaker 6: dealt a foot injury that cost him some time, and
- 18:30Speaker 6: I don't think he was ever 100% when he came
- 18:33Speaker 6: back at the end of the season. He missed five
- 18:36Speaker 6: regular season games, came back at the end, was playing
- 18:39Speaker 6: in the playoffs, and then there were some dropped passes,
- 18:43Speaker 6: especially in the postseason. And so a lot of folks
- 18:48Speaker 6: around here really soured on him, and I'm looking at
- 18:50Speaker 6: it like, well, yeah, the ending wasn't great, but he
- 18:55Speaker 6: certainly wasn't 100% physically, and it's pretty convenient for people
- 19:02Speaker 6: to forget how dynamic he had been to begin the season.
- 19:07Speaker 6: Like his first, I don't know, six, seven games, he
- 19:10Speaker 6: was on pace for a big, big year, number-wise. But
- 19:15Speaker 6: you know how it is in the fan world a
- 19:18Speaker 6: lot of the times. It's what have you done for me?
- 19:22Speaker 6: last Sunday. That's how people look at it. And so
- 19:26Speaker 6: this year, he's been a little more consistent. You know,
- 19:30Speaker 6: he's that big-bodied ex-receiver that the reason these guys fell
- 19:36Speaker 6: in love with him and drafted him is they love
- 19:38Speaker 6: the ability to make the contested catch. Like, massive catch
- 19:41Speaker 6: radius can make these plays for you downfield. And that's
- 19:45Speaker 6: why his numbers in terms of those, you average yards
- 19:50Speaker 6: per catch is so high, 15.9 going into the game.
- 19:56Speaker 6: This week, the volume hasn't been huge for him, as
- 19:59Speaker 6: you point out. But they've got a lot of options.
- 20:02Speaker 6: They've got Colston Loveland, a tight end. They've got Luther Burden,
- 20:06Speaker 6: another young wide receiver. The first, heck, three weeks of
- 20:11Speaker 6: the season, they kept throwing the ball to Kalief Raymond,
- 20:14Speaker 6: this super shifty slot receiver that had played for Ben
- 20:19Speaker 6: Johnson previously with the Lions. So they don't have a
- 20:25Speaker 6: JSN on the roster here, right? But they've got way
- 20:32Speaker 6: more depth in terms of pass catchers and options for
- 20:37Speaker 6: the quarterback than Sam Darnold and the Seahawks possess. Yep.
- 20:41Speaker 2: That is proven true for sure. Adunze has 24 catches
- 20:45Speaker 2: so far this season. No touchdowns, but an average of
- 20:48Speaker 2: 15.9 yards per catch. This is Brad Biggs. He's the
- 20:51Speaker 2: Chicago Bears beat writer for the Chicago Tribune. He's been
- 20:53Speaker 2: doing the Bears since 2001, which is why we have
- 20:56Speaker 2: him on KJR here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline before
- 20:58Speaker 2: the Monday night game. I was going to ask you,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you would think with 71% that the Bears have a
- 21:03Speaker 2: running game to help out Caleb Williams, and they do.
- 21:05Speaker 2: They lead the NFL in rushing at over 154 yards
- 21:08Speaker 2: a game, yet I look at DeAndre Swift, and I
- 21:11Speaker 2: see he's not even top 10 in yards per carry
- 21:15Speaker 2: in the NFL. How's Swift, and how's the run game
- 21:19Speaker 2: producing at the rate it is?
- 21:22Speaker 6: Well, they had some massive, massive games early in the season.
- 21:27Speaker 6: They came out of the gate against Carolina. And the
- 21:31Speaker 6: Panthers couldn't stop a Pop Warner rushing attack. We saw
- 21:35Speaker 6: that again this past year. Tampa Bay went in there
- 21:39Speaker 6: and throttled Carolina in Charlotte with Baker Mayfield only having
- 21:45Speaker 6: to attempt 11 passes because I think the Bucs ran
- 21:49Speaker 6: for like 256. So the Bears had a massive game
- 21:53Speaker 6: that day. They had another really big game rushing the ball.
- 21:58Speaker 6: They've had... five or six games since Ben Johnson got
- 22:02Speaker 6: here where they've run for more than 200 yards. Now,
- 22:05Speaker 6: when they're cooking on the ground, they've got a two
- 22:07Speaker 6: headed Russian attack with Kyle. And I'm guy who was
- 22:10Speaker 6: a seventh round pick out of Rutgers a year ago.
- 22:12Speaker 6: But I'm guy has missed the last three games with
- 22:15Speaker 6: a turf toe. And he was not out of practice
- 22:19Speaker 6: yesterday when they kind of had a little bonus extra
- 22:22Speaker 6: practice that fit into their schedule because they're coming off
- 22:26Speaker 6: a Thursday night game.
- 22:28Speaker 8: Right.
- 22:28Speaker 6: Um, So that doesn't necessarily bode well for Monday night,
- 22:33Speaker 6: but certainly too early to rule him out. But when
- 22:36Speaker 6: they're going really good on the ground at Swift, they've
- 22:40Speaker 6: got Mnangai, who's Swift's a little bit more of a slasher.
- 22:44Speaker 6: He's tougher than I think people give him credit for.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Mnangai's just kind of straight downhill. And then Caleb Williams
- 22:51Speaker 6: is going to be able to pad some of the
- 22:55Speaker 6: rushing totals most weeks because it only takes a couple
- 22:59Speaker 6: of plays for him. And you look down and you're like, okay,
- 23:01Speaker 6: let's get, you know, 42 yards rushing or something. Well,
- 23:05Speaker 6: it all adds up.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Right. On defense, Brad, when I look at the bears
- 23:10Speaker 2: and the couple of games I've seen them play is
- 23:13Speaker 2: Jalen Johnson, the weak link, the guy that maybe GSN
- 23:16Speaker 2: and Sam Donald and the Seahawks are going to target
- 23:19Speaker 2: on Monday night. And where's he in the secondary? Is
- 23:21Speaker 2: his job in jeopardy?
- 23:23Speaker 6: I don't know that his job's in jeopardy because it's
- 23:27Speaker 6: not like the Bears or anyone else have got superstar
- 23:31Speaker 6: cornerbacks just hanging out on the practice squad, collecting that
- 23:36Speaker 6: kind of check. I don't know how they're going to
- 23:38Speaker 6: stop Jason. I'm fascinated. I shouldn't even say stop. I
- 23:43Speaker 6: don't know how they're going to attempt to slow him down.
- 23:45Speaker 6: He's had one game under 100 yards this season. I'm
- 23:49Speaker 6: really fascinated to see what Dennis Allen, the defensive coordinator, does.
- 23:53Speaker 6: cooks up in that regard. But yeah, Jalen Johnson, former
- 23:56Speaker 6: Pro Bowl player with the injuries last year that plagued
- 24:02Speaker 6: the season, forced him to miss time. He wasn't at 100%.
- 24:04Speaker 6: He's been healthy this year, and it just hasn't been good.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Tyreek Stevenson, a fourth-year guy that they drafted in round
- 24:15Speaker 6: two a couple years ago, he's had some ups and
- 24:18Speaker 6: downs and a couple different minor injuries. They've gotten some
- 24:22Speaker 6: pretty encouraging play from a fourth-round rookie, Malik Muhammad, out
- 24:25Speaker 6: of Texas. He left that Patriots game last week with
- 24:30Speaker 6: a toe injury. I didn't see him on the practice
- 24:32Speaker 6: field yesterday. So your guess is as good as mine.
- 24:38Speaker 6: They do have Kyler Gordon, the nickel cornerback, in the mix,
- 24:41Speaker 6: but they've been out without all season. Kobe Bryant, the
- 24:46Speaker 6: former Seahawk, who they made their major free agent addition
- 24:50Speaker 6: last with a knee injury, best case scenario for them
- 24:53Speaker 6: is he maybe comes back at some point in December.
- 24:59Speaker 6: It's possible they don't see Kobe Bryant on the field
- 25:02Speaker 6: until 2027. Oh, wow.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a big loss for him and for
- 25:07Speaker 2: the Bears. Seahawks are missing him at times as well
- 25:09Speaker 2: in the secondary. Ryan Poles, the GM for the Bears,
- 25:12Speaker 2: you expect him to make a move maybe to shore
- 25:14Speaker 2: up the secondary or before November 10th' s deadline? Are you
- 25:18Speaker 2: all expecting those who follow the Bears closely expecting a.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Move Yeah, I think they're working the phones probably like
- 25:26Speaker 6: most everyone else. Edge rusher, cornerback, although, you know, really,
- 25:32Speaker 6: you think about it, who's trading good cornerbacks?
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that ain't happening.
- 25:38Speaker 6: You know, and the thing that cracks me up at
- 25:43Speaker 6: this time of year annually is in the NFL is
- 25:48Speaker 6: I think, I think people can routinely confuse activity for achievement, right?
- 25:55Speaker 6: Meaning they got to do something.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Well, and then, and then the team makes a move
- 26:02Speaker 6: and you're like, all right, well, they did something that people,
- 26:05Speaker 6: the folks will celebrate. Well, they, you know, they punched
- 26:08Speaker 6: the ticket, but really like, it's just the wild thing
- 26:12Speaker 6: is you look at the trade deadlines and, And there
- 26:15Speaker 6: are younger GMs now with mindsets that their predecessors didn't have.
- 26:20Speaker 6: So we see more action at the NFL trade deadline
- 26:24Speaker 6: than we ever used to. Back 15 years ago, you
- 26:28Speaker 6: might see like a half dozen trades. That would be it.
- 26:31Speaker 6: And there's more activity now. But it's nothing like Major
- 26:35Speaker 6: League Baseball or the NBA or the NHL.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And by the way, in.
- 26:40Speaker 6: MLB, the trade deadline, when it was positioned– They're 30%
- 26:45Speaker 6: of the regular season remaining. The NHL and the NBA,
- 26:50Speaker 6: the trade deadline's at a point when it's between like 25%
- 26:53Speaker 6: and 35% of the regular season remaining. Well, as we
- 26:56Speaker 6: sit here right now, and the Seahawks obviously made a
- 27:00Speaker 6: move yesterday, trade deadline's coming November 10th, as you mentioned.
- 27:06Speaker 6: You've got 22 or 24 teams that have 10 games remaining.
- 27:14Speaker 6: The bears are in that mix. The rest of the,
- 27:17Speaker 6: the rest of the league, eight or 10 teams. I
- 27:20Speaker 6: don't have the numbers right in front of me. I
- 27:21Speaker 6: did look them up yesterday, have already been through their pie.
- 27:24Speaker 6: They have 11 games remaining. So it's, there aren't nearly
- 27:28Speaker 6: as many sellers as people who are clamoring for trades
- 27:34Speaker 6: would like to believe right now, because they're not even
- 27:37Speaker 6: at the midpoint of the season. And my goodness, what
- 27:41Speaker 6: do you, what do you do in your locker room?
- 27:43Speaker 6: And what are you telling your fan base if you're
- 27:46Speaker 6: blowing it up with more than half the season remaining?
- 27:51Speaker 6: So I'd expect some more action. I think the Bears
- 27:53Speaker 6: are going to probably wind up making a move or two.
- 27:59Speaker 6: What it is, I don't know. A lot of people
- 28:01Speaker 6: have linked Khalil Mack to him. That would make sense.
- 28:04Speaker 6: He's probably the first player in Bears history that the
- 28:07Speaker 6: team traded for twice. But we'll have to see what
- 28:12Speaker 6: shakes out.
- 28:13Speaker 2: That's a really good point, Brad, about the trade deadline
- 28:16Speaker 2: and so much time left in an NFL season and
- 28:18Speaker 2: younger GMs as well compared to, say, John Schneider, 17
- 28:21Speaker 2: years doing the job. Brad, I know you've got another
- 28:24Speaker 2: job to do. I appreciate your time. Enjoy the trip
- 28:26Speaker 2: out here to somewhat rainy Seattle. I'll see you in
- 28:28Speaker 2: the press box Monday night. Thank you, sir.
- 28:31Speaker 6: Have a great day.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Brad Biggs, he's been doing this for a long time.
- 28:35Speaker 2: 25 years he's been covering the Bears for the Chicago
- 28:37Speaker 2: Tribune lately. He is detailing a Roma dunzee. saying he's
- 28:42Speaker 2: a home run threat for Chicago, but they have other
- 28:45Speaker 2: receivers who have gotten the majority of the receptions, fourth
- 28:48Speaker 2: on the team in receptions with 24, no touchdowns for
- 28:51Speaker 2: Robodunze so far this season. He's coming back to Seattle.
- 28:55Speaker 2: The former University of Washington Husky star will be on
- 28:57Speaker 2: the field in Bears white on Monday night against the
- 29:00Speaker 2: Blues Seahawks. 5-15, 5-20 kickoff Monday night football. The 5-2 Bears,
- 29:05Speaker 2: a big challenge offensively for Mike McDonald in the Seahawks defense. Yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 2: he made the point. The Seahawks made that big trade yesterday.
- 29:12Speaker 2: How many people are trading good corners? Like you said, well,
- 29:15Speaker 2: how many people are trading all-pro guards with what the
- 29:18Speaker 2: Colts just did? The Colts are in that fire sale
- 29:22Speaker 2: that Brad Biggs just talked about when you give the
- 29:24Speaker 2: fans in your locker room a message. Two-win Colts have
- 29:27Speaker 2: traded both DeForest Bruckner and now Quentin Nelson. Jonathan Taylor's
- 29:33Speaker 2: wife was online yesterday. It got some ink saying how
- 29:36Speaker 2: bad it was that the Colts were just trading all
- 29:38Speaker 2: her friends there. wives of the players. Yeah, I know.
- 29:42Speaker 5: There is a bond that comes with being the partners,
- 29:46Speaker 5: the families of coaches and players, and it is sad.
- 29:50Speaker 3: It is sad, but I just would keep that offline.
- 29:53Speaker 2: The Seahawks posted this morning that Quentin Nelson is in
- 29:56Speaker 2: the building in Renton. He walked in and It's like
- 29:58Speaker 2: he's going to, like, trick-or-treating on blow-ups in the hallway
- 30:01Speaker 2: right outside the locker room. They have castles, and they
- 30:04Speaker 2: do that every holiday. They do it for Christmas.
- 30:06Speaker 3: They're very festive.
- 30:07Speaker 2: They have inflatables that go from— you can see it at
- 30:10Speaker 2: the Seahawks' Twitter account. They have inflatables right outside the
- 30:13Speaker 2: indoor practice facility, between the practice facility and the locker room,
- 30:16Speaker 2: the hallway there.
- 30:19Speaker 3: It's fun. It's fun.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I mean, these people have lives off the football field.
- 30:22Speaker 5: At least they can feel like they're in the holiday
- 30:25Speaker 5: spirit while they're there.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, you can see him kind of looking at
- 30:30Speaker 2: the blowups and the castles and the monsters. He's kind
- 30:33Speaker 2: of like, oh, okay.
- 30:33Speaker 5: Is there any of those, like, wacky, wavy, inflatable tubing?
- 30:37Speaker 2: That's basically what it is. Yeah, okay. It's a plug-in inflatable.
- 30:40Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It's pretty funny, actually. He does a double take at
- 30:44Speaker 2: the inflatables. But, yes, Quentin Nelson is in the building.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Chuck asked me this morning at 7 o'clock. He said,
- 30:49Speaker 2: I think I know the answer to this, but do
- 30:50Speaker 2: you expect him to play Monday night?
- 30:51Speaker 6: Yes.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Somebody who's been in the league as long as he
- 30:54Speaker 2: has eight years. At the level that he's played at,
- 30:58Speaker 2: he's seen every scheme there is. They may call it
- 31:00Speaker 2: something different here in Seattle, but he's going to be
- 31:02Speaker 2: ready to go.
- 31:03Speaker 5: That's just learning the playbook, right, and learning the language.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 3: But he's game ready.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I would think. He's going to play Monday night. He's
- 31:10Speaker 2: on the active roster. And so it goes. What do
- 31:13Speaker 2: they do with Anthony Bradford? Text line 49451 has some
- 31:18Speaker 2: opinions about that. Gray Zabel at center. We talked about
- 31:20Speaker 2: it yesterday. That's the only position he did not play
- 31:23Speaker 2: at North Dakota State.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 31:25Speaker 2: He was a right tackle his final season. He was
- 31:28Speaker 2: a left tackle before that. He was a right guard.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He was a left guard, but he never played center.
- 31:31Speaker 2: The idea of Gray Zabel as a center came about
- 31:34Speaker 2: at the Senior Bowl in January 2025 when he was
- 31:37Speaker 2: getting ready for the draft, and the NFL scouts wanted
- 31:40Speaker 2: to see him at center, including the Seahawks saw him
- 31:42Speaker 2: at center in Mobile, Alabama, and he looked great. And
- 31:46Speaker 2: by all accounts, when they drafted him, there was a
- 31:49Speaker 2: question of whether he would start out at center. And
- 31:52Speaker 2: it turns out he was next to his college roommate,
- 31:54Speaker 2: Jalen Sandell. And Jalen Sandell has been the center with
- 31:58Speaker 2: Zabel playing left guard. But right guard is not exactly
- 32:01Speaker 2: foreign to him. He's played it for multiple times at
- 32:06Speaker 2: North Dakota State. And frankly, that's one of the things
- 32:09Speaker 2: they talked about when they drafted him, how much they
- 32:11Speaker 2: liked that he played all four positions at both guard
- 32:13Speaker 2: and both tackle spots. I don't see him going to center.
- 32:17Speaker 2: He could only because he got tried there at the
- 32:20Speaker 2: Senior Bowl, but he's never played there. At the center,
- 32:23Speaker 2: you just don't plug in and go. You have to
- 32:25Speaker 2: be the traffic cop. You have to be in sync
- 32:27Speaker 2: with Sam Darnold on protection calls and audibles at the
- 32:30Speaker 2: line of scrimmage for protection. There's more to it than just,
- 32:33Speaker 2: let's pick this up in a game week.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a C for a reason. You're the captain
- 32:37Speaker 5: of that entire front.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yes, I would think that would be a tougher ask
- 32:41Speaker 2: than to say, move him to right guard, for instance.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Yeah, for me, just having covered football for so long,
- 32:49Speaker 5: moving inside, definitely easier than moving outside.
- 32:53Speaker 3: However, center.
- 32:55Speaker 5: You have to know that language and already have experience
- 32:59Speaker 5: with it to run that front.
- 33:01Speaker 2: To your point, Chuck asked me this morning about what
- 33:03Speaker 2: I thought about Zabel playing left tackle because Charles Cross
- 33:06Speaker 2: has the ankle injury, may not play this week, although
- 33:09Speaker 2: Mike McDonald was very vague about that.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Like a good coach would be.
- 33:14Speaker 2: But it is much harder for an interior offensive player
- 33:16Speaker 2: to jump out to tackle than a tackle jumping into guard,
- 33:18Speaker 2: for instance. And the reason they have Josh Joes on
- 33:20Speaker 2: the roster, a former starter with multiple teams in the AFC— Texans, Ravens,
- 33:26Speaker 2: is for this very situation. And he did well, Josh
- 33:29Speaker 2: Jones did at the end of last season in this role.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And that's why he's here. He replaced, Josh Jones replaced
- 33:34Speaker 2: Charles Cross in the second half of the game against
- 33:36Speaker 2: Kansas City on Sunday night. I'd expect that to be
- 33:38Speaker 2: where they start. And that means where does Anthony Bradford go?
- 33:42Speaker 2: I really do think they're going to move Zabel to
- 33:44Speaker 2: right guard and they're going to have Quentin Nelson at
- 33:46Speaker 2: left guard. And I haven't talked to anyone because I
- 33:50Speaker 2: haven't been in the building the last day and a half.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I think they're shopping Anthony Bradford. That after this trade,
- 33:55Speaker 2: they have a four-year starter on an expiring contract, which
- 33:59Speaker 2: is a prime opportunity to trade. And let's face it,
- 34:03Speaker 2: Anthony Bradford at right guard is not going to command
- 34:05Speaker 2: the money that Quentin Nelson at left guard would command
- 34:07Speaker 2: in free agency. So a team may be willing to
- 34:10Speaker 2: take him and re-sign him. He's still in his mid-20s.
- 34:13Speaker 2: We've talked about how Anthony Bradford would love to stay
- 34:15Speaker 2: in Seattle, but this trade for Quentin Nelson certainly seems
- 34:18Speaker 2: like his days may be numbered. We'll see. I don't
- 34:21Speaker 2: expect tomorrow when I talk at noon to Mike McDonald
- 34:24Speaker 2: for him to divulge exactly what they're going to do
- 34:26Speaker 2: on Monday night with that guard and center.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Wait, what? They're not going to reveal their cards?
- 34:30Speaker 2: I don't think so. They're going to keep a competitive advantage.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Lots to talk about about that coming in the next
- 34:38Speaker 2: few days. And on the text line, 49451, I already
- 34:40Speaker 2: got a lot of good feedback about what you would
- 34:43Speaker 2: do in the interior of the offensive line with Nelson
- 34:45Speaker 2: arriving today. He's in the Seahawks building right now, Quentin
- 34:48Speaker 2: Nelson is. Up next, man, I hope Jerry DiPoto's watching
- 34:52Speaker 2: the World Series. And I mean not just watching it
- 34:54Speaker 2: from afar with his feet up, But with a notepad,
- 34:57Speaker 2: a legal pad, take a note. We're going to talk
- 34:59Speaker 2: about how the Brewers and the Rays play. Can it
- 35:02Speaker 2: be done in Seattle? I'm not even going to say
- 35:04Speaker 2: should it be done. The answer to that is yes.
- 35:06Speaker 2: We're going to say how can it be done and
- 35:08Speaker 2: what it would take. What do I mean by how
- 35:11Speaker 2: they play? We'll talk about that next. 11 o'clock, we'll
- 35:13Speaker 2: get into more about this. What do you do with
- 35:16Speaker 2: Gray Zabel? What do you do with Quentin Nelson? What
- 35:17Speaker 2: do you do with Anthony Bradford in the Seahawks interior
- 35:19Speaker 2: offensive line? 1135 factor fiction, your chance to win.
- 35:22Speaker 6: $ 1, 000.
- 35:22Speaker 2: All that's coming up on 93.3 KJRFM. It's baseball music.
- 35:46Speaker 2: It's Fox's baseball music. We're hearing that a lot this
- 35:49Speaker 2: week because the World Series is going on. Game 5
- 35:51Speaker 2: is tonight in St. Petersburg at that dreary dome in
- 35:55Speaker 2: the Tropicana Field. That is a bad place to watch baseball.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I've covered many games there as a baseball beat writer.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Every time I've gone into the Trop, I'm like, why
- 36:03Speaker 2: are we not playing baseball outside tonight? It's 80 degrees
- 36:06Speaker 2: in St. Petersburg.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's like the air is sweating.
- 36:10Speaker 2: It is, but it's baseball.
- 36:11Speaker 9: It's great.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I know. There are thunderstorms there in the summer, and
- 36:15Speaker 2: that's why there's a dome there. But, yeah, it's dreary
- 36:17Speaker 2: to go. It's like a kingdom with a Teflon roof.
- 36:20Speaker 2: That's what Tropicana Field is. Very concrete, concrete walls, concrete floors.
- 36:26Speaker 2: It's like a warehouse that has a Teflon roof. I
- 36:30Speaker 2: know they've remodeled it since the hurricane destroyed it. But, yeah, anyway.
- 36:35Speaker 2: It's amazing, isn't it, to watch the games and see
- 36:37Speaker 2: how many Brewer fans are in there.
- 36:39Speaker 9: Oh, gosh.
- 36:39Speaker 5: They've been waiting for this forever. I have a lot
- 36:42Speaker 5: of friends in Wisconsin or from there. And you want
- 36:46Speaker 5: to talk about tried and true fans.
- 36:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Those are them.
- 36:49Speaker 2: And there are a lot of people from the upper
- 36:52Speaker 2: Midwest and Midwest who live in Florida who have moved
- 36:54Speaker 2: from the Midwest down to Florida. And that helps, too.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Transplants that are down there. But, yeah, it sounds like
- 37:00Speaker 2: Brewer's home games. That's not all I notice when I
- 37:03Speaker 2: watch the Brewers and the Rays play. The up-to-middle opposite
- 37:08Speaker 2: field hitting. The other night in Game 3, with the
- 37:11Speaker 2: series really at stake for the Rays, what blew it
- 37:15Speaker 2: open and really gave Milwaukee control of the series in
- 37:18Speaker 2: a 3-0 lead was the 8-run inning that turned a
- 37:21Speaker 2: 2-0 lead into 10-0. And in that 8-run inning, it
- 37:25Speaker 2: was opposite field. Opposite field.
- 37:28Speaker 6: I mean, it was.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Over and over. Line drives. Left-handed batter, liner through the
- 37:32Speaker 2: hole at shortstop. Left-handed batter, double down the left field line.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Right-handed batter, double off the right center field wall. Nothing
- 37:39Speaker 2: about launch angles and exit velocities and none of that.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Hit it where it's pitched. Pitchers in the Major League
- 37:46Speaker 2: Baseball tend to try to go away. Maybe bust inside,
- 37:50Speaker 2: but off-speed away. So hit it there. If it's on
- 37:53Speaker 2: the outer half of the plate, Go that way. Don't
- 37:55Speaker 2: try to pull it and roll it over or try
- 37:57Speaker 2: to pop it up and try to hit it a
- 37:59Speaker 2: mile and not going to even get it outside of
- 38:00Speaker 2: the infield. Just hit it where it's pitched. And that's
- 38:04Speaker 2: what happened in the eight-run inning, 10-0 game, Brewers up
- 38:08Speaker 2: 3-0 in the series. Then last night, after the Brewers
- 38:12Speaker 2: take the lead with a home run, yes, a home run,
- 38:14Speaker 2: and they do still have those two, in the top
- 38:16Speaker 2: of the 12th, the Rays, first guy puts the ball
- 38:19Speaker 2: in play, third baseman makes an error, leadoff guy on.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Here we go. Then what happened after that? Four straight singles.
- 38:26Speaker 2: The left-handed batter Hicks. Single to the opposite field. Single
- 38:29Speaker 2: up the middle. Single up the middle ties the game.
- 38:32Speaker 2: No home runs. Bases loaded. Nobody out for the Rays.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Former Mariner Ben Williamson. We talked, I had this show
- 38:38Speaker 2: a couple years ago. I love Ben Williamson. I thought
- 38:41Speaker 2: he was fantastic because he played baseball the right way.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Like Cole Young does for the Mariners. Who I think
- 38:46Speaker 2: is the Mariners MVP this past season. Ben Williamson, what's
- 38:50Speaker 2: he do? Base is loaded, the season on the line,
- 38:52Speaker 2: the crowd going nuts. First pitch is outside. He chops
- 38:56Speaker 2: it to the right side. His job was just to
- 38:59Speaker 2: put it in play. Don't try to hit a fly ball.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Don't try to yank anything. Don't try to hit it
- 39:05Speaker 2: where they pitch it. They pitch it outside, hit it
- 39:07Speaker 2: that way. He hits it on chop, drawn an infield,
- 39:10Speaker 2: and the Rays live to see another day of Game
- 39:12Speaker 2: 5 tonight. I mentioned this at the top. If Jerry
- 39:15Speaker 2: DiPoto is true to his word in saying that he
- 39:19Speaker 2: wants to change, that this managerial change and coaching staff change,
- 39:23Speaker 2: that he wants fresh ideas in Seattle, these are your
- 39:27Speaker 2: fresh ideas. Ditch the exit velocity. ditch the launch angle,
- 39:32Speaker 2: ditch every hitter trying to pull everything, everything that we've
- 39:36Speaker 2: seen here for years. In a pitcher's park with big alleys,
- 39:40Speaker 2: let's go up the middle opposite and play the way
- 39:43Speaker 2: baseball is supposed to be played. Pitchers across the league
- 39:46Speaker 2: know how to pitch the Mariners. Soft away and they're
- 39:49Speaker 2: going to try to pull it. If they happen to
- 39:50Speaker 2: hit it, it's going to be a weak ground ball
- 39:51Speaker 2: to short or a pop-up. Most times they're not going
- 39:54Speaker 2: to hit it because they're going to strike out 12
- 39:55Speaker 2: times a game. The book is like as old as
- 39:58Speaker 2: the Bible at this point. Everyone knows it. The book
- 40:01Speaker 2: on the Mariners is ancient. So if they truly are
- 40:05Speaker 2: going to change and the results are going to change,
- 40:07Speaker 2: you've got to change foundationally your offensive philosophy to what
- 40:10Speaker 2: the Brewers and the Rays are doing. And it ain't
- 40:13Speaker 2: exactly rocket science. It's just play baseball. These kids were
- 40:17Speaker 2: taught this growing up. They weren't taught exit velocities and
- 40:21Speaker 2: launch angles from the time they were in Little League.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Up the middle opposite is going to be a philosophy
- 40:26Speaker 2: change that would have to start in the minor leagues.
- 40:28Speaker 2: You'd have to get a system put in by Jerry
- 40:30Speaker 2: DiPoto and his baseball operations that changes the way they
- 40:33Speaker 2: operate in baseball. Serious.
- 40:35Speaker 11: Period.
- 40:35Speaker 2: End of story. And that's going to take a new
- 40:37Speaker 2: coaching staff. That's going to take entirely different way to scout. Now,
- 40:42Speaker 2: they've got guys. They've got Colt Emerson. They've got Young,
- 40:45Speaker 2: who I mentioned, that do this. But they also have
- 40:48Speaker 2: Cal Raleigh, who's always going to be Cal Raleigh. You're
- 40:50Speaker 2: not going to change him.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Dude, don't mess with that. Don't take care of that toy.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Well, you could say 190. You might need to change that.
- 40:56Speaker 2: But you do need to absorb that the veterans that
- 40:59Speaker 2: are already doing this are going to stay. Julio Rodriguez,
- 41:02Speaker 2: they seem to try to hit him to the opposite field,
- 41:04Speaker 2: and he has some mixed success doing it. But you
- 41:07Speaker 2: need to get guys to do that. And the guys
- 41:10Speaker 2: that coach that and guys that manage that, instead of
- 41:14Speaker 2: this launch angles, exit velocity, pull the ball everywhere. And
- 41:18Speaker 2: if they can't do all that, can we at least
- 41:20Speaker 2: get launch angles and exit velocity off of the broadcasts?
- 41:24Speaker 2: Can that be the start? That would be a change.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Hey, let's just not talk about that anymore.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Can't we just drop that from every damn game? We
- 41:32Speaker 2: watch the Mariners. We've got to be inundated with how
- 41:35Speaker 2: fast the ball came off the bat. Who cares if
- 41:38Speaker 2: the guy's in the dugout?
- 41:39Speaker 5: There's something about exit velo when I hear it.
- 41:42Speaker 3: It's almost like a cringe. I get it.
- 41:45Speaker 5: It's pretty cool. 405 foot home runs. That's a record
- 41:49Speaker 5: and how fast it came.
- 41:51Speaker 3: But just use it in that one situation.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I just want to see a baseball team play baseball.
- 41:55Speaker 2: That's really what I want. They have a pitching staff
- 41:57Speaker 2: that can win the World Series and a hitting. It
- 42:00Speaker 2: looks like beer league softball. Get rid of the beer
- 42:03Speaker 2: league softball and play baseball like the Braves and the
- 42:06Speaker 2: Brewers are playing up the middle opposite. Hit the ball
- 42:09Speaker 2: where it's pitched. Go the other way. Not beer league softball.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Can we end the beer league softball? That would be
- 42:14Speaker 2: a nice start.
- 42:15Speaker 5: I was a champion in several beer league softball leagues,
- 42:18Speaker 5: so I'm going to take that off there. But yes,
- 42:22Speaker 5: the analytics don't need to be so prevalent, I guess,
- 42:28Speaker 5: with what doesn't matter, which was what doesn't win. And
- 42:31Speaker 5: I mean, it's a cool thing when you see it
- 42:33Speaker 5: every once in a while and you find out 110
- 42:36Speaker 5: miles off the bat.
- 42:37Speaker 3: That's sick. But that's not winning.
- 42:41Speaker 2: 49451, will you go fill T-Mobile Park next summer if
- 42:45Speaker 2: they're hitting up the middle opposite? I bet you damn
- 42:47Speaker 2: well will if they're 10 games over. 500 instead of
- 42:50Speaker 2: 10 games under. How do you feel about watching the
- 42:53Speaker 2: World Series and going, can the Mariners do this? Can
- 42:55Speaker 2: Jerry DiPoto actually look at this and say, we're going
- 42:58Speaker 2: to try this? Boy, it would be refreshing. It sure
- 43:01Speaker 2: would be different than it's been on offense the last
- 43:02Speaker 2: couple years. It would be different than a team going,
- 43:04Speaker 2: 10 games under. 500 and missing the playoffs with a
- 43:07Speaker 2: World Series-caliber pitching staff. Up next, back to the Seahawks.
- 43:11Speaker 2: How does John Schneider do what he does? How does
- 43:14Speaker 2: he pull off these midseason trades for veteran stars? Well,
- 43:18Speaker 2: he re-signs them. How does he get them in the
- 43:20Speaker 2: first place? How has no other GM got Quentin Nelson
- 43:23Speaker 2: this morning? We're going to talk about the networking that
- 43:25Speaker 2: John Schneider does. He was on a podcast with former
- 43:28Speaker 2: Seahawks Luke Wilson last month. Jessamyn unearthed it. You're going
- 43:31Speaker 2: to hear from John Schneider in his own words about
- 43:33Speaker 2: his networking, how he came up as a scout, and
- 43:37Speaker 2: the ingredients to the deals that happened yesterday. That's next
- 43:40Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJRFM. Hi, happy Wednesday. Big, big, pretty busy
- 44:01Speaker 2: sports Wednesday here in Seattle and around the world.
- 44:03Speaker 3: It's been a busy week.
- 44:04Speaker 2: It has been.
- 44:05Speaker 5: Damn. We've got the World Series. We've got Seahawks making moves.
- 44:08Speaker 5: We've got Monday Night Football coming up.
- 44:10Speaker 2: We've got the Sounders and the Kraken both playing home
- 44:13Speaker 2: games tonight in Seattle. Headlines brought to you by Frostwood
- 44:15Speaker 2: Coors Light as cold as the Rockies. Jessamyn mentioning the
- 44:18Speaker 2: Seahawks Monday night against the Bears. We talked to Brad
- 44:21Speaker 2: Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, a Bears beat writer, talking
- 44:23Speaker 2: about Roman Dunzay and the Bears coming in here on
- 44:25Speaker 2: Monday night. Against the Seahawks 5-2, against 4-3. Quentin Nelson
- 44:29Speaker 2: is in the building in Renton. He arrived this morning.
- 44:32Speaker 2: The Seahawks put that out on their Twitter X page.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Walking into the facility for the first time since his
- 44:38Speaker 2: trade yesterday. Yes, I didn't mention at the top of
- 44:40Speaker 2: the headlines, they did waive Christian Haynes. He's a candidate
- 44:43Speaker 2: to go on the practice squad. They waived the guy
- 44:45Speaker 2: who has started five games this season for them when
- 44:47Speaker 2: Anthony Bradford's been injured. Bradford's back from injured reserve. They've
- 44:51Speaker 2: got three guards for two spots. We've talked about that.
- 44:55Speaker 2: on the text line that's the question of the day
- 44:56Speaker 2: the colts they didn't just trade quentin nelson yesterday they
- 44:59Speaker 2: also traded to forrest buckner back to where he first
- 45:01Speaker 2: started the nfl that's the 49ers the chiefs are signing
- 45:05Speaker 2: former troubled ravens kicker justin tucker to the kansas city
- 45:08Speaker 2: practice squad as per my buddy sam mcdowell the kansas
- 45:11Speaker 2: city star the kraken host toronto tonight at 6 30
- 45:14Speaker 2: pregame at 6 30 for mike bendon are the captain's
- 45:18Speaker 2: pregame show on 93.3 kgr 7 p.m puck drop with
- 45:22Speaker 2: Everett Fitzhugh and Al Koninsky as always. Sounders host the
- 45:25Speaker 2: Houston Dynamo. 7.30 tonight. That's going to be on the
- 45:28Speaker 2: 9.50 KJR AM side. Jackson Felts and our coverage will
- 45:31Speaker 2: be on the AM side tonight. The World Series will
- 45:33Speaker 2: have a fifth game tonight. The Brewers took a 3-2
- 45:35Speaker 2: lead top 12 last night before the Rays rallied on
- 45:40Speaker 2: an error and four singles to the opposite field and
- 45:43Speaker 2: up the middle. It's just uncanny how that works. 4-3
- 45:47Speaker 2: win for the Rays. That's game five tonight. Brewers still
- 45:50Speaker 2: lead the series three games to one. NBA Minnesota Star
- 45:53Speaker 2: League MVP candidate Anthony Edwards needs arthroscopic knee surgery. Could
- 45:56Speaker 2: miss two months. The Huskies football team, they're playing at Nebraska.
- 46:01Speaker 2: 5 p.m. on Saturday. Jed Fish still keeping people guessing
- 46:04Speaker 2: on whether it's going to be Elijah Brown who should
- 46:06Speaker 2: be or DeMond Williams who probably will be starting at
- 46:08Speaker 2: quarterback for the Huskies.
- 46:10Speaker 3: There's going to be a lot of controversy over that.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Yes, that would be controversial. That would also be a
- 46:14Speaker 2: nod to the $ 4 million with an M that DeMond
- 46:18Speaker 2: Williams gets in NIL money from The Coug supporters, the
- 46:22Speaker 2: Husky supporters. I was moving ahead to the Cougs who
- 46:24Speaker 2: are playing at San Diego State on Saturday. Jessamyn's going
- 46:27Speaker 2: to leave Friday for that. Sorry you have to be
- 46:30Speaker 2: in San Diego on a fall weekend.
- 46:31Speaker 4: I know.
- 46:31Speaker 3: It's such a hard life that I live.
- 46:34Speaker 2: Sorry you do that.
- 46:36Speaker 3: It'll be great, though. Great kickoff time, too.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Three o'clock?
- 46:39Speaker 3: Great four.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Four o'clock. Even better. And you still got time to
- 46:43Speaker 2: go out in the gas lamp after.
- 46:44Speaker 3: I love the gas lamp.
- 46:47Speaker 2: San Diego's pretty good for that. Yeah, I miss San
- 46:50Speaker 2: Diego not being in the NFL anymore. John Schneider was
- 46:53Speaker 2: in the NFL when the San Diego Chargers were in
- 46:57Speaker 2: Jack Murphy Stadium. He came up in his hometown of
- 47:00Speaker 2: Green Bay as a Ron Wolfe disciple. He walked in
- 47:04Speaker 2: and basically got himself a job with the Packers by
- 47:06Speaker 2: force of personality, by just hanging out at Packers. Tenacity.
- 47:09Speaker 3: It was tenacity.
- 47:11Speaker 2: The great GM Ron Wolfe hired him as a scout.
- 47:15Speaker 2: He then scouted for Kansas City, for Washington. went back
- 47:20Speaker 2: to the Packers as an executive, and in January of 2010,
- 47:24Speaker 2: Todd Lewicki and Pete Carroll, the newly hired Pete Carroll,
- 47:27Speaker 2: vice president of football operations, the executive in charge of
- 47:30Speaker 2: all football, hired John Schneider as a first-time general manager.
- 47:32Speaker 2: He had curly hair. He was this young guy, short
- 47:35Speaker 2: young guy with a Wisconsin accent. We were like, who's
- 47:38Speaker 2: this guy?
- 47:38Speaker 3: He's still young.
- 47:39Speaker 2: He is still youngish. 17 years later, he has a
- 47:42Speaker 2: salt-and-pepper beard now. He's got his hair slicked back. He
- 47:45Speaker 2: looks great.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I love John. I have such a good relationship with him.
- 47:50Speaker 5: And I just find being personable really lends itself to
- 47:55Speaker 5: the job, whatever job you might have. But I found
- 47:58Speaker 5: him to be delightful the entire time I've known him.
- 48:02Speaker 2: And that speaks to what I was talking with Chuck
- 48:03Speaker 2: Powell this morning on his morning show at 7 o'clock.
- 48:06Speaker 2: And he was asking me, how does he do this?
- 48:08Speaker 2: Four years in a row now, as you heard Ian
- 48:09Speaker 2: in the lead-in, talking about four years in a row
- 48:12Speaker 2: that John Schneider has pulled off these trades. Leonard Williams.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Ernest Jones, then Rashid Shaheed last middle of the season
- 48:21Speaker 2: in October, and then yesterday, Quentin Nelson. All veteran stars,
- 48:25Speaker 2: all on expiring contracts. The first three of them, they re-signed.
- 48:30Speaker 2: And that's what I think they're going to do with
- 48:31Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson. People are going to ask, oh, is this
- 48:33Speaker 2: going to be a rental? Could they get a third-round
- 48:34Speaker 2: comp pick if he signs somewhere else? Yeah, they could.
- 48:37Speaker 2: But you know John Schneider has already talked to the agents,
- 48:39Speaker 2: Tom Condon and CAA Sports, for Quentin Nelson about what
- 48:44Speaker 2: price it will take to get him back. And they
- 48:47Speaker 2: got that number before they made this trade. That's the
- 48:49Speaker 2: way this business works. John Schneider knows well, well aware
- 48:53Speaker 2: now of what the Seahawks need to do and they're
- 48:55Speaker 2: willing to do. They've got some contracts that will be
- 48:58Speaker 2: coming off the books next year as well. The cap
- 49:00Speaker 2: will go up as well. And they have 11, now
- 49:02Speaker 2: 10 draft picks next year after trading a third rounder
- 49:05Speaker 2: for next year to the Colts to get Quentin Nelson.
- 49:08Speaker 2: But when he was asking me, how do they do this?
- 49:11Speaker 2: How do other GMs not get Quentin Nelson in this case? Well,
- 49:14Speaker 2: one Wilson, Or Nelson has the seniority to dictator ask, oh, yeah,
- 49:18Speaker 2: I'd like to go there.
- 49:19Speaker 7: No, I don't.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Want to be traded there. But John Schneider has a
- 49:23Speaker 2: network that he has built since his days with Ron
- 49:26Speaker 2: Wolf and green Bay as a scout. He knows other teams,
- 49:29Speaker 2: scouts more as well as some of the GMs. He's
- 49:34Speaker 2: been in the league as a GM. Now he's been
- 49:36Speaker 2: a GM seat for 17 years. There's only one other
- 49:40Speaker 2: general manager. Let's throw out Jerry Jones and Mike Brown.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Jerry Jones is the Cowboys' owner. Mike Brown of the
- 49:45Speaker 2: Bengals is the owner. They also call themselves general managers.
- 49:47Speaker 2: But let's throw them out. They own the team. They
- 49:48Speaker 2: can do whatever they want. True GM, separate from the owner.
- 49:52Speaker 2: There's only one other GM in the NFL with a
- 49:55Speaker 2: longer tenure than John Schneider in Seattle, and that's Mickey Loomis,
- 49:58Speaker 2: a former Seahawks executive with the Saints. In 2002, he
- 50:02Speaker 2: got hired by New Orleans, and that's it. John Schneider
- 50:06Speaker 2: is the second-longest-tenured GM in the sport. And that network
- 50:11Speaker 2: gets him what he did yesterday. You know the interim GM,
- 50:15Speaker 2: the Colts interim GM that he made the deal with?
- 50:18Speaker 2: Ed Dodge, you know who he came from? John Schneider's
- 50:21Speaker 2: staff in Seattle. He worked with him for six years
- 50:24Speaker 2: before he joined the Colts. He started as a scout,
- 50:26Speaker 2: Ed Dodge did, with John Schneider's scout with the Seahawks.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Then he became a personnel executive. And then he got
- 50:33Speaker 2: a job in 2017 with the Colts. So, John Schneider's
- 50:37Speaker 2: with everybody. He knows everybody.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Because he's awesome.
- 50:40Speaker 5: I mean, who wouldn't want to hang out with him?
- 50:42Speaker 5: I'm like, yo, can we just go get a beer together? Like,
- 50:45Speaker 5: he's that guy, but it's his whole personality. And I'm
- 50:47Speaker 5: not just saying, like, go get a beer. But he
- 50:50Speaker 5: is a real human being. And I've met his wife, Tracy.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Multiple times, too. They're real.
- 50:57Speaker 5: They're not suits. And I think that that is what...
- 51:01Speaker 5: allows him to walk into rooms and open conversations because
- 51:05Speaker 5: yeah he's playing a chess match all the time but
- 51:08Speaker 5: he's fun and he's cool to hang out with and
- 51:11Speaker 5: he knows what he's doing and everyone knows that he
- 51:13Speaker 5: knows what he's doing so he's nice when he does
- 51:15Speaker 5: it other.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Gms when they call about deals sometimes they're calling the
- 51:19Speaker 2: team switchboard or receptionist to get a hold of these
- 51:23Speaker 2: gms John Schneider's not calling reception. He's meeting the guy
- 51:26Speaker 2: at Starbucks and writing deals on the back of a napkin.
- 51:28Speaker 5: Yeah, Dino says, right across the street, we saw how
- 51:31Speaker 5: the Ryan Grubb.
- 51:32Speaker 2: Deal went down. That's how the Starbucks at the JW
- 51:36Speaker 2: Marriott in Indianapolis is how the Russell Wilson deal went down.
- 51:41Speaker 2: And the GM, George Patton, in the Broncos, he handed
- 51:44Speaker 2: him on the back of a Starbucks napkin. Here's the
- 51:46Speaker 2: sketch of what the deal would get done. That's how
- 51:49Speaker 2: it got done.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Yeah, who needs iPads?
- 51:52Speaker 2: Not Rolodex phone. His Rolodex starts with scouts, not with GMs.
- 51:57Speaker 2: It's just he's extensively networked to the point that he
- 52:01Speaker 2: can just pick up the phone and make a deal with, oh, hey, Ed,
- 52:04Speaker 2: how's the family going? How are you settling in on
- 52:06Speaker 2: your new job? How's it going? Where do you live
- 52:08Speaker 2: in Indianapolis now? You still got that place on the
- 52:10Speaker 2: north side? That's how John Schneider operates. Not, hey, this
- 52:14Speaker 2: is GM so-and-so from Tampa Bay, and we'd like to
- 52:18Speaker 2: get Quentin Nelson. What will it take? No, that's not
- 52:21Speaker 2: how it starts with John Schneider. Remember that time we
- 52:24Speaker 2: were in Phoenix at this league meeting? That's what 17
- 52:28Speaker 2: years on the job gets you. And that's what gets
- 52:31Speaker 2: the Seahawks, these players in the middle of the sea.
- 52:33Speaker 2: How does this happen? That's how it happens. Josh Snyder
- 52:36Speaker 2: last month was on the podcast with Luke Wilson, a
- 52:39Speaker 2: film called Film Never Lies, the former Seahawks tight end
- 52:43Speaker 2: who's a hoot. I saw him at the Super Bowl.
- 52:44Speaker 2: We hung out a little bit. He's hilarious. He does
- 52:47Speaker 2: work now at TSN, covering the CFL in Canada. And
- 52:50Speaker 2: he has a podcast called Football Never Lies. And Jessamyn unearthed,
- 52:54Speaker 2: last month, John Schneider. Luke Wilson's talked to John Schneider
- 52:58Speaker 2: on the record more recently than I have. I cover
- 53:00Speaker 2: the team every day. He was on with Luke Wilson,
- 53:03Speaker 2: John Schneider was. And he talked a little bit about
- 53:05Speaker 2: his background and how he got to where he is.
- 53:06Speaker 2: And I think it offers insight to why he pulled
- 53:09Speaker 2: off the trade for Quentin Nelson.
- 53:10Speaker 10: This might be a bit of a strange one here,
- 53:12Speaker 10: but I was listening to somebody else talk about, Hey,
- 53:15Speaker 10: I build my team to win the division, not win
- 53:18Speaker 10: the Superbowl. I thought it was like the strangest comment
- 53:21Speaker 10: I've heard. Is that something that I, again, obviously I
- 53:26Speaker 10: know the Seahawk culture, maybe not under coach McDonald as well,
- 53:29Speaker 10: but like, I'm pretty familiar with you. I've never heard
- 53:31Speaker 10: anyone say anything like that. Is that something that would
- 53:33Speaker 10: even come across in a meeting? Like, Hey, we want
- 53:35Speaker 10: to handle our division more so than like, okay. Cause
- 53:39Speaker 10: that was one where, I was wondering, is there a
- 53:43Speaker 10: reaction in the thought process of the front office? Okay,
- 53:45Speaker 10: they get Miles Garrett. We need to do something different.
- 53:47Speaker 10: Or is it still kind of, hey, it's about us?
- 53:49Speaker 8: No, same.
- 53:50Speaker 11: Yeah, so basically operating in the world of being where
- 53:55Speaker 11: our feet are right now, how do we operate right
- 54:01Speaker 11: now as we're getting to play the Patriots, Arizona, Washington,
- 54:07Speaker 11: our first.
- 54:09Speaker 8: Quarter of the season or whatever? But really, what do
- 54:12Speaker 8: we look like?
- 54:14Speaker 11: And Mike's been awesome, and his staff, they've been great,
- 54:16Speaker 11: buying into our 70. It's 69, and we have an
- 54:20Speaker 11: international player. So you have the 16 practice squad players,
- 54:25Speaker 11: and then we have an international guy as our 17th.
- 54:27Speaker 11: So we call it our 70 to really buy into, okay,
- 54:31Speaker 11: what are we going to look like in Thanksgiving, Christmas,
- 54:36Speaker 11: New Year's? What are we going to look like down
- 54:39Speaker 11: the stretch? And that's really so that, like, yeah, that's
- 54:42Speaker 11: for us and, like, the depth. Because, you know, it's
- 54:45Speaker 11: a battle of attrition, right? Like, how are we going
- 54:48Speaker 11: to be developing and healthy?
- 54:49Speaker 8: And are we.
- 54:51Speaker 11: Going to be able to be a little active at
- 54:54Speaker 11: the trade deadline to help our team if maybe we
- 54:57Speaker 11: feel like there's some sort of deficiency of what we're
- 54:58Speaker 11: going to look like again.
- 55:02Speaker 8: In January or February? But it's also really for the fans.
- 55:06Speaker 11: The fans are like, okay, my team– is like, has
- 55:10Speaker 11: a chance to be a consistent championship caliber team, meaning
- 55:12Speaker 11: that my team's not going to be like tanking.
- 55:15Speaker 8: Or we're like, okay, we're just to your point, like
- 55:18Speaker 8: we need.
- 55:18Speaker 11: To win the NFC West or whatever, you know, it's like, no,
- 55:21Speaker 11: like what's like, there's only one team that's happy at
- 55:24Speaker 11: the end of the season.
- 55:25Speaker 5: Right.
- 55:25Speaker 8: So that's like the ultimate.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:28Speaker 11: The cool thing was that Mike, Mike never talked about it.
- 55:30Speaker 11: Mike's like, he never talks about like Superbowl and all
- 55:33Speaker 11: that kind of stuff. It's like, well, yeah, no, you know,
- 55:35Speaker 11: thanks for the flash Gordon.
- 55:36Speaker 8: You know what I mean? Like, you don't need to
- 55:37Speaker 8: say that.
- 55:38Speaker 11: Like, Everybody knows this is what we want. These are
- 55:43Speaker 11: our goals.
- 55:46Speaker 8: It's a fan thing.
- 55:47Speaker 11: Growing up in Green Bay, I was always like, what
- 55:50Speaker 11: are the Packers doing every single day to get better?
- 55:52Speaker 11: I'd race to the mailbox to get the paper to
- 55:56Speaker 11: look at the transactions and be like, What are we
- 56:01Speaker 11: doing to get better? When I started working in the league,
- 56:05Speaker 11: that always drove me. I want our fans knowing that
- 56:07Speaker 11: we're busting our tail to acquire people, develop people, and
- 56:11Speaker 11: help guys like yourself become the best version of themselves
- 56:14Speaker 11: they possibly can.
- 56:16Speaker 10: I mean, again, John, I'm biased because you drafted me,
- 56:21Speaker 10: but the record speaks for itself. The two Super Bowls,
- 56:24Speaker 10: different head coaches. I did want to ask, this is
- 56:28Speaker 10: one that gets a little more serious, and this is
- 56:30Speaker 10: kind of a funny one. I don't know how much
- 56:32Speaker 10: you follow the CFL, but I'm our color commentator on Friday.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Nights for the CFL.
- 56:38Speaker 8: So we go up there.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's been great. It's been great.
- 56:41Speaker 8: I've heard your voice. I have heard your voice, yes.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Okay, so we go, and it's Friday.
- 56:45Speaker 8: I've seen you on the studio shows and stuff, too.
- 56:47Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's been fun. Friday night, I was
- 56:52Speaker 10: in Montreal, Quebec. Big Friday night showdown. It was BC
- 56:56Speaker 10: versus Montreal. Very good game. And after the game, we're
- 56:59Speaker 10: leaving the stadium, and a fan comes up. And I
- 57:03Speaker 10: told him, I'm like, hey, man, I'm going to talk
- 57:05Speaker 10: to him this week. So he comes up and he's like, Luke,
- 57:07Speaker 10: I'm a huge Seattle fan. What do you think about
- 57:09Speaker 10: this season? I'm like, bro, we're going to be there again.
- 57:12Speaker 10: And he's like, man, how much do you know? He
- 57:14Speaker 10: asked me about you. And I'm like, well, I know
- 57:16Speaker 10: him pretty well. And he's like, I'm not going to
- 57:19Speaker 10: lie to you. He goes, when he traded Russ, I
- 57:23Speaker 10: was devastated.
- 57:25Speaker 2: And I looked at him.
- 57:26Speaker 10: I said, John Snyder's got the boys, right, man. Like,
- 57:29Speaker 10: you know, I know there's a lot of chat about
- 57:31Speaker 10: miles Garrett and the Rams and rightfully so, but I'm like,
- 57:34Speaker 10: if there's a guy to get us right, it's John.
- 57:37Speaker 10: And the reason I'm telling you this is he goes, man, looking.
- 57:41Speaker 2: At it now, it's crazy. We've got a little board
- 57:42Speaker 2: here we're going to pull up.
- 57:44Speaker 10: And when I go on Jay Onright's SportsCenter show, and
- 57:46Speaker 10: I claim that you're going to the Hall of Fame,
- 57:48Speaker 10: and I know you'll never say that, it's moves like
- 57:50Speaker 10: this that are just outrageous. Rob, you've got to pull
- 57:53Speaker 10: the board up right now. How tough was it in
- 57:57Speaker 10: this moment to pull this off? I mean, Derek Hall,
- 58:00Speaker 10: Devin Witherspoon, obviously Drew Locksill there, Charles.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Cross, like.
- 58:05Speaker 10: the list goes on and on. And I will continue
- 58:08Speaker 10: this with the, you know, Gino and the Sam Darnold situation.
- 58:13Speaker 10: How hard is it as a GM, John, to put
- 58:15Speaker 10: your neck on the line being like, hey, the fans
- 58:18Speaker 10: might not know. Like, the young John Snyder who was
- 58:21Speaker 10: in Green Bay going to the transaction page might not
- 58:25Speaker 10: see it now.
- 58:26Speaker 8: But.
- 58:27Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 58:30Speaker 11: I mean, it's really like, just like guys like yourself,
- 58:33Speaker 11: like when you're competing, just like, The preparation and, you know,
- 58:38Speaker 11: preying on things and trying to figure out, like, what's
- 58:42Speaker 11: right for the club. Looking back on that, that kind of, like,
- 58:46Speaker 11: that period was very stressful. You know, I'm basically, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 11: I'm negotiating with Coach Carroll. I'm negotiating with ownership. I'm
- 58:58Speaker 11: negotiating with.
- 59:01Speaker 4: The Broncos.
- 59:03Speaker 11: Uh, one other team, I can't imagine, you know what
- 59:05Speaker 11: I mean? And then, and then, and then, um, and
- 59:11Speaker 11: the agent involved as well. And so we were also
- 59:17Speaker 11: going through a really ugly time and having to.
- 59:20Speaker 8: Have Bobby as a cap casualty guy, which was really rough. Yeah.
- 59:27Speaker 11: Phenomenal player, like legend, first belt, hall of famer. Like,
- 59:32Speaker 11: you know, so there was a period there that was like,
- 59:34Speaker 11: I mean, you know, then looking back through it, it's like, okay,
- 59:37Speaker 11: you know, we got through that, but like just preying
- 59:43Speaker 11: on the preparation and the communication and the honesty and never,
- 59:47Speaker 11: never having.
- 59:48Speaker 8: It be about yourself or ego, or it's just like, what, what,
- 59:53Speaker 8: what is the best for the organization?
- 59:55Speaker 11: What's best for the organization? Like, period point blank as
- 59:58Speaker 11: Mo would say, right? Period point blank. So like, that's
- 1:00:05Speaker 11: like the, like what drives us and, you know, fast forward.
- 1:00:09Speaker 11: And then too, it does help with, you know, your experience.
- 1:00:15Speaker 11: So going back, going back, I, uh, Mike Tannenbaum and
- 1:00:19Speaker 11: I were the ones that negotiated the Brett Favre trade, right?
- 1:00:21Speaker 11: So my boss, Ted, God rest his soul, Ted Thompson, uh,
- 1:00:26Speaker 11: who's no longer with us, had to answer media stuff
- 1:00:29Speaker 11: all the time with Brett. And so I was kind
- 1:00:33Speaker 11: of in the background, so he didn't have to be
- 1:00:40Speaker 11: talking about negotiations and stuff like that with different teams.
- 1:00:44Speaker 11: And so that experience totally helped me with going through
- 1:00:49Speaker 11: the Matt Hasselbeck stuff when we got here our second year.
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: Uh, Russ, Matt Flynn, Tavares, like all that.
- 1:00:56Speaker 11: And then the Russ situation, uh, and then, then with
- 1:01:01Speaker 11: Gino and the transition to Sam as well, um, like
- 1:01:05Speaker 11: what's best for the organization, what's best for the organization
- 1:01:07Speaker 11: and what's driving everybody's what's, what's everybody's intentions here, like
- 1:01:12Speaker 11: with players, agents, whatever, like sifting through that and being
- 1:01:17Speaker 11: able to talk to Jody Allen, uh, about this is,
- 1:01:21Speaker 11: this is what's best for the organization.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Yeah. It's got to be. I don't know. I mean,
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: that's why. I don't know.
- 1:01:28Speaker 8: Okay. Am I going to be. Is she going to
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: fire me in the morning?
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: John Schneider talking on Luke Wilson's podcast. Film doesn't lie.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Last month. John Schneider. I've covered him since the day
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: he got hired in January of 2010. And he and
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I go back and forth. He says, is that a
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: serious question, Greg? Or stuff like that. He doesn't always
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: like my subject matter that I bring up to him.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Let me just say, he's going to be in the
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Hall of Fame.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: 100%.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: He's going to be in the Hall of Fame as
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: general manager. He's the best general manager that Seattle sports
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: has ever had. And what he's done, as Luke Wilson
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: referred to, he's the first general manager to take two
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: different regimes, two different head coaching staffs and head coaches,
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: two different rosters to Super Bowl championships. GMs have done
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: it with getting to the Super Bowl, but winning them
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: twice with two different regimes has never been done before.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: He's been the constant. It bears repeating that in January
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: of 2024, Jody Allen met a fork in the road.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Do I stay with Pete Carroll in his way as
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: the top of the football chain at the Seahawks for
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: the last 15 years and the best 15-year run the
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Seahawks have ever had? Or do I go with this
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: first-time general manager, John Schneider, in his path forward? Pete
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Carroll wanted to keep his assistants. He wanted to keep
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: his coordinators. He wanted to keep the status quo, the
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: culture the same. And John Schneider wanted to do it differently.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: He wanted to rebuild his defense with a different philosophy
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: and hire the defensive mastermind of the time, Mike McDonald,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: the Ben Johnson of defense. While everyone else was going
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: for Ben Johnson and the Lions big shot offense coordinator
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: who the Bears, who he's going to face on Monday night,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: ended up hiring his head coach, John Schneider zagged while
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: everyone else was zigging toward Ben Johnson. He went to
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Mike McDonald. And Jody Allen said, yes, I will go
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: with John Schneider's path forward. And that decision, Jody Allen,
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: is her legacy. She did that. That was her choice.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: She and Burt Cole decided that path forward, and she
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: set the Seahawks on this path with John Schneider and
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Mike McDonald to winning another Super Bowl just two years later.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: This is John Schneider's team, his culture, his operation, his everything.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: And he's won a Super Bowl two years into doing
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: it his way. And he's going to be in the
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Hall of Fame for it. He's amazing. You talk about
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: his ties with Ron Wolfe. You knew Ron Wolfe when
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: you were first starting out in his business.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I was out here very fresh when I got
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: out here, but I got in touch with Ron Wolfe
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: and had him on a show I was producing at
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: the time. And he talked about this 12-year-old kid who
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: would just ride his bike to the facility and basically
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: bang down his door every single day, letting him know
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: that he was there.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: That's John Schneider, and he still has the spark.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: I think that in any industry, you can lose your
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: spark once you see how the sausage is made or
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: you understand how difficult the industry can be, and being
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: an NFL GM can be very.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: Difficult in multiple ways, some of which we heard with
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: him talking about having to have, you know, his buddy
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: and future first ballot Hall of Famer, Bobby Wagner, be
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: a cat casualty. John Schneider would ride his bike as
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: a child. up to Ron Wolf's office and knock on
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: and have the door open. And Ron Wolf had the
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: best things to say about him. It was really a
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: lovely interview. And we didn't know this guy.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: We had no idea. You never know who the scouts are.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: And that's what he was at the time.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: And then, or, you know, he, I think he might've
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: been an assistant GM, but going in that direction was
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: such a masterful move by the Seahawks organization because they
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: He's perfect, but he has never.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: Lost the spark. He truly cares about people.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: I mean, I still remember talking to Nate Boyer about
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: how he had to console John Schneider after he had
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: to cut him.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: You know, that's the type.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: The army green beret that John Schneider signed for a
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: summer and then cut as a long snapper. Let me
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: say this before we get a break. We're running out
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: of time. John Schneider doesn't do just football. He's established
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Ben Funn, his son, and Tracy's son, Ben, at age three,
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: diagnosed with autism, and he has a gala event. It's
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: turned into a massive event, a Ben's Fund. I know
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: that the Ben's Fund, the money that they have raised
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: has helped. I know patients directly. My wife deals and
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: works with patients at Children's Hospital who have directly benefited
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: from the Ben's Fund and John and Tracy Snyder's Fund
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: and what they've done for autism and kids with autism.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: It ain't easy, to say the least. I'm not here
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: to say it. I'm a parent who have two healthy
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: kids that are I'm blessed. But Johnston and Tracy Snyder,
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: through their son, autistic son Ben, who's now a teenager,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: have helped countless youth across the Pacific Northwest and really
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: across the West Coast in the country who come to
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: Seattle Children's. I've told him this personally because I've seen
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: it from my wife and her work how appreciated he
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: is in that realm. And hats off to him for that.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Not just as he's the general manager that Seahawks and
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Seattle Sports has ever had, But he's given back and
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: made an impact beyond sports. And I've talked about how
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: Russell Wilson did that in this town, too. John and
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Tracy Snyder have done that as well. And they need
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: kudos upon kudos for what they've done off the field
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: and outside the Seahawks building as well. Up next, a
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: chance to be a part of the show, 49451 on
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: the Tacoma Dodge text line. Some of you are flowering
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: John Snyder, as you should, after hearing him. We don't
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: often hear him speaking publicly. 1135 Factor Fiction, your latest pick.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I'm going back to college football. I'm going back to
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: my roots, my home. And it's not Army this time
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: because Army's not playing this week. They're on a bye.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Ian thinks I only win because I pick Army every week.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Well, not this week.
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Coming up next on 93.3 KJRFM. We're set to go.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Glad you're with us.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: grand prize.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: It's Fact or Fiction.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: day feels lucky. Fact or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: KJR FM.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Probably straight up 11.35 this time, thanks to Jessamine. Well-timed.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Factor Fiction brought to you by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel,
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: where every day feels lucky. Your chance to win $ 1, 000.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Your latest one right here, right now. Yep, college, the band, drumline.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: I'm going back to college. I'm going back to my roots. No,
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: not the Army team. The pride and dream of every
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: heart and gray is off this week. They have a
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: bye week before they host the Zoomies next week at
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: West Point. Fox is going to have the college... Big
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: noon show, the pregame show, their college game day, as
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: it were, on Fox is going to be at West Point.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: And then the NFL Sunday pregame show with Howie Long,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Terry Bradshaw, and those guys, that's also going to be
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: at West Point to celebrate the military game. next weekend.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Good for them.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: Rightfully so.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: Thank you. Air Force and Army next week. Oh, yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I'll weigh in on that next week. But this week,
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: I'm going to go back to my roots as into
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: where I grew up, Ohio. OHIO, the Buckeyes, are in
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Los Angeles to play USC. The Buckeyes are favored by
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: six and a half points, even with a backup quarterback.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Justin Sane is out probably for the rest of the year.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Ohio State's 4-0 in the Big Ten, 6-1 overall. USC,
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: 3-2 in the Big Ten, 6-2 overall. Here's what USC
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: has done lately. They allowed 26 points all season. They
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: allowed 26 points to San Jose State. Louisiana, they allowed
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: 30 points to them. Rutgers, they allowed 35 to them.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: The Ducks hit them for 41 on the Coliseum turf.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Getting a theme here? The Huskies had 21 and could
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: have had more at the end. We all know that.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Penn State put 23 on them. And Wisconsin, who has
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: trouble scoring habitually, especially in big games against ranked teams,
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Wisconsin beat them 24-7 at Camp Randall last week. I
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: think it's because of the backup quarterback situation. Ohio State's
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: only favored by 6.5. Give me the Buckeyes, plus at
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: least a touchdown in the Coliseum this week against that
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: USC defense that gives up points by the dozens. I
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: almost went over 51.5, but I'm not sure Ohio State
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: defense is going to give up a lot to USC.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: So give me Ohio State minus 6.5, which means I
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: think the Buckeyes went on the road at USC by
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: 7 or more points. If you agree, text FACTA49451. If
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: you disagree... Text Fiction to 49451. I haven't even looked, actually,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: if somebody else has picked this game. I did. Thank you, Jessica.
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: Don't you worry.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: You got my back.
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: I checked it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Ohio State minus six and a half, meaning they'll win
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: by seven or more. If you want to win $ 1, 000,
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: text FACT to 49451. If you don't want to, text
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: FICTION to 49451. Again, we are, what, 18 and 12,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: far and away ahead of anybody. Nobody else is even
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: above 500 on this station. And we'll roll it. So
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: that's why I'm saying if you just want to win $ 1, 000,
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Texas Fair. All you got to do is win one
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: time out of the 20 times we do this a week,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: a normal week. And if your name is drawn out
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: of the winner's pile on Monday, you win $ 1, 000. But
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: even if you don't win that $ 1, 000, whoever wins the
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: most between now and Army-Navy Friday at Times Square with
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: Jessamyn and I on December 11th, that's when the contest ends.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Whoever wins the most between now and then will win
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: $ 10, 000 from Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel where every day
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: is lucky. Ohio State minus 6.5 at USC.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: I think that's a good pick.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Do you? The only thing is Justin Sand not starting
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: at quarterback. And as Rick Neuheisel said yesterday, college football
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: doesn't have number two quarterbacks anymore. That was such a
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: great point. College football has number one and number three
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: quarterbacks because everyone takes the number two guy and makes
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: him their starter. The Ohio State number two from last
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: year is now the Louisville starter.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: Army is playing this weekend, by the way.
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: What?
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: I thought they had a bye week.
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: No, they're at Memphis. They have a late bye week.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: They're actually very similar to the Cougs. But they are
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: playing Memphis this weekend. Yes.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: My buddy, Ed Scott, Dr. Ed Scott, the athletic director. Well,
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I know what my Monday or my Friday pick is
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: going to be.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: I know you'll have.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: How did I overlook that?
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Well, I mean, you're working this entire time. But yeah, no,
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: their bye week falls in between the 7th and the 21st.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: So the 14th.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I stand corrected. Thank you, ma'am.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: Just wanted to let you know that they are playing.
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: But now you have a Thursday pick. And don't you
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: let Ian scoop that up from you.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Oh, no, you just killed it. It's going to happen.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: Well, he's not listening.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Thanks for the talk, Max. I'm sure we have a couple.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, we do, actually. We could sneak a few in.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: Here, hold it, Dylan.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:12:42Speaker 9: Schneider is an absolute badass. Just a thought here. Hey, Schneider,
- 1:12:46Speaker 9: do you want to stick your hands maybe in the
- 1:12:49Speaker 9: M's cookie jar? Maybe give that squad a help a
- 1:12:52Speaker 9: little bit, some advice, something? Because whatever you do works
- 1:12:55Speaker 9: for football. They need all the advice they can get. Oh,
- 1:12:58Speaker 9: and by the way, Softie sucks.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: Oh, that was just like a rare shot across the bow.
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: Whoa.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Where did that arrow come from?
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Softie catching strays at the end of a John Schneider tribute.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I did not see that one coming.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: I love Johnny. Johnny is the man. Johnny is a
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: magical man. Johnny makes things happen. That's why we love Johnny.
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: That's why I'm hoping Johnny can go find us a
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: running back. You need a running back. Johnny the Magic Man,
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: get out there and get us a running back. But
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: I love John. I trust him. I know what he
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: can do. I love the man. I hope he stays
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: here forever.
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: Thank you, Johnny.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Is that supposed to be Pete Carroll? Is that a
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Pete Carroll impersonation?
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: I can't tell what that was supposed to be.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: He called him Johnny a lot. Yes, he did.
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: He had a, you know, kind of a little nickname
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: for everybody.
- 1:13:55Speaker 7: Yes, he did.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: But that sounded like my father-in-law after a couple of beers.
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: A couple of Blue Moons.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Blue Moons? I don't know. No, he's from New Hampshire.
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: Uh, so no long Islanders. Uh, we did have, we
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: had blue moons around.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Yeah. With a straw and an orange.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Uh, definitely an orange, but it's kind of like fruit. No,
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: it's heavy. It's weedy.
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: I'm not, I'm not a huge one.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: All right. One more.
- 1:14:28Speaker 12: Greg been a Mariners fan since 1988. Seen all the
- 1:14:31Speaker 12: highs and lows, uh, thrilled and agony through all of it. And, um,
- 1:14:37Speaker 12: I think you're spot on right now with what you're
- 1:14:39Speaker 12: saying about getting the ball in play, watching what's happening
- 1:14:42Speaker 12: in the current World Series, not worrying about exit velocity
- 1:14:47Speaker 12: or launch angle or all that BS. None of it's
- 1:14:50Speaker 12: going to change until ownership gets rid of Jerry DiPoto,
- 1:14:53Speaker 12: I think, in my opinion.
- 1:14:54Speaker 7: Get rid of him, please.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Well, that's the question, right? Are the Mariners going to
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: change as long as Jerry DiPoto's in charge? He's the
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: president of baseball operations. Will Jerry DiPoto change? We don't
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: know this. Did John Stanton and the two dozen owners
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: of the Mariners say, okay, Jerry DePoto, we're going to
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: have you keep your job, but you need to change.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Remember DePoto famously said, one of his famous, not 54%,
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: but most recently last month said, I could very well
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: not have a job either, and it would be justified.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: So was that a mandate from ownership? We're about to
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: find out, both in who they pick as manager, and
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: then we start seeing him play ball next year on
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: whether he's been asked and tasked to change. Let me
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: just say it again. Baseball operations for the Mariners will
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: not change until the baseball president of operations changes. That's
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: just a fundamental fact. It's like saying the sun will
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: come up. You can't change baseball operations if your president
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: of baseball operations doesn't change the way he operates the
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: baseball side. I don't know. That's pretty fundamental to me.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Ian Furness is around, or is he off-site today?
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: No, he's here.
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Well, Ian's going to tell us what he's got next,
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: including a cracking game tonight against Toronto. Down at the
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: arena at Seattle Center. It's 7 o'clock right here on
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. Greg Bell, Jesmyn McIntyre, Ian Furness
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: is joining us. Someone on the text line said that I,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: it's actually Keith, friend of the station, friend of the show, 253.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: We need Bell to step up his booze game now
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: that he works for KJR. I thought that if you,
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: any beer that you put citrus in, especially an orange slice,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: it's not exactly hard hitting beer. Blue Moon?
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: No, I'm not into Blue Moon.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: I'm not either. My wife is.
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: She likes that or, you know, a half with lemon or...
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: You know, what have you. But yeah.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: Is that like a shandy? No.
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: Shandy's a little different. Shandy's like got the lemon taste
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: to it.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Yeah. There's a lightness, right?
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever it is.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a lightness. That's what Blue Moon is, right?
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: No.
- 1:17:13Speaker 7: Blue Moon's more of a, Blue Moon's like a, it's a.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: It's a weedy. It's a weedy.
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: It's like a half of us.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: But it's like a more of a, you put an
- 1:17:19Speaker 7: orange in.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: It for whatever reason. I need to talk to him.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: My man Ian would set me straight on that.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:24Speaker 7: None of those are good.
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: I can't do that. Wheat, it just sits in me.
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: It's like drinking a sandwich. But I used to love that.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: The taste is so wonderful.
- 1:17:35Speaker 7: It's a good summer beer for those that like it, yeah.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: Why am I judging?
- 1:17:39Speaker 7: It's not the mayor's IPA. It's not the mayor IPA, no.
- 1:17:42Speaker 7: And I shouldn't be the guy judging. You do you
- 1:17:44Speaker 7: as far as what you want to have to drink.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: If you're on the YouTube channel right now, you can
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: see that Ian Furness is in TV mode. The hair
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: is perfectly coiffed.
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: He has the- It's literally perfect.
- 1:17:53Speaker 7: It's Wazoo night, so I got the Wazoo vest on.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: Oh, it is Wazoo night at the Kraken. He's got
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: the vest on, a down vest over the collared shirt
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: that's on. Oh, you get the tie already around the neck.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: You're ready to go for tonight because he's a play-by-play
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: man on Kraken TV. Tonight for Toronto at- The Kraken.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: I mean, Toronto's still Toronto, right? They're the Yankees of hockey.
- 1:18:14Speaker 7: The center of the hockey universe is centered around Toronto,
- 1:18:17Speaker 7: so yes.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: And you explained to me why it's a 7 o'clock,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: not the new 6.40 start tonight.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: Because it's a doubleheader for Canada's Amazon. Amazon does a–
- 1:18:27Speaker 7: kind of like Amazon does Thursday night football in our country,
- 1:18:30Speaker 7: they do Wednesday night hockey for Canada Prime, Amazon Prime
- 1:18:33Speaker 7: in Canada. So it's Wednesday night hockey and Forslund is
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: the voice of that. John Forslund is the voice of that.
- 1:18:39Speaker 7: We're doing a double header tonight. He's actually doing the
- 1:18:41Speaker 7: Battle of Alberta, Edmonton and Calgary. I'm not sure who's
- 1:18:44Speaker 7: doing the national broadcast for Canada here for Amazon Canada,
- 1:18:48Speaker 7: but we've got it on King TV tonight. So it's
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: on the big station.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:18:51Speaker 7: King Amazon. And we do Amazon prime as well.
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: Kong TV.
- 1:18:54Speaker 7: So yeah, way we go. I'll have JT between the
- 1:18:56Speaker 7: benches tonight. And, uh, Austin Matthews and company in town
- 1:18:59Speaker 7: to wrap up a four-game homestand. So away we go.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: Very banged up Maple Leafs.
- 1:19:03Speaker 7: Very banged up, yeah, but they're still very good.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: Nylander, Matthews, the new number one overall pick.
- 1:19:09Speaker 7: Gavin McKinnon, number one overall pick.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: The new Patrick Ewing of hockey. I like that.
- 1:19:13Speaker 7: I like that.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Anyone who knows the Patrick Ewing reference from the Knicks
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: magically getting the No. 1 overall.
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: The New York Knicks get the No. 1 pick, and
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: somehow Gavin McKenna goes to Toronto.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: The frozen envelope.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: You were joking when you sat down. Frozen envelope. That's
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: a good one.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: You were joking when you sat down that we're really
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: not going to know until kickoff what the Seahawks are
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: going to do with their new guards and three guards
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: and two spots and center. And you're right.
- 1:19:37Speaker 7: There's no reason. We can't watch practice, the actual practice
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: part of practice. So you and I— You and I
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: were both out there. I'm out there Wednesdays. You're out
- 1:19:48Speaker 7: there Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays. But on Wednesdays, most of the
- 1:19:52Speaker 7: media is out there for the McDonald News Conference, and
- 1:19:54Speaker 7: we're allowed to go out and take pictures, and the
- 1:19:56Speaker 7: TV guys can shoot some video.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Of them doing calisthenics. If that.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: Barely that. Exactly. You could get more by going to
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: a 24-hour fitness and watching a gym class.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: You could get more than you can watch with Seahawks practice.
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: Visually.
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: And guys that are dinged up sometimes don't come out
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: until we've already been kicked off the field. So the
- 1:20:18Speaker 7: point being, and that's fine, and I'm sure a lot
- 1:20:20Speaker 7: of NFL teams do that.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: They all do.
- 1:20:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not complaining about that. But the point is
- 1:20:25Speaker 7: that none of us are going to know what that
- 1:20:28Speaker 7: offensive line looks like when they start drills tomorrow. Is
- 1:20:33Speaker 7: Nelson your left guard? You would assume so. Sundell's probably
- 1:20:36Speaker 7: still the center, and I'm assuming they're going to see
- 1:20:38Speaker 7: some version of probably a Gray-Zabel-Anthony-Bradford rotation. Really?
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: I would never do that.
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: I think in practice, but I think we'll see Zabel
- 1:20:47Speaker 7: playing right guard on Monday, right? And away you go.
- 1:20:51Speaker 7: The only thing that makes me pause about the rotation
- 1:20:54Speaker 7: is that they've already done it.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's true.
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: And Bradford, you know, they sing these praises, but I'm
- 1:21:01Speaker 7: kind of with you. Does this mean they're going to
- 1:21:02Speaker 7: move him?
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:21:04Speaker 7: But if they were going to move him, why would they? Well,
- 1:21:06Speaker 7: I know they had a roster spot to clean up,
- 1:21:08Speaker 7: but why would they have cut Haynes? If they're going
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: to move a backup right guard.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: Well, you still have Stevens, and maybe they've showed him enough.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: They've seen enough to say he could be the backup.
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: They might have seen enough, but I don't know what
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: they've seen. But yeah, I think it's pretty safe to
- 1:21:25Speaker 7: say Zabel will be the right guard. But we don't know.
- 1:21:27Speaker 7: We won't know until Monday. You won't know until Monday, what,
- 1:21:30Speaker 7: about 40 minutes before the game when they actually come
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: out and they start running.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: I think so, too.
- 1:21:34Speaker 7: And you start being able to see who the ones
- 1:21:36Speaker 7: and the twos are.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: I think so, too. It's not like McDonald's going to
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: tell us. Then there's no reason for them to. The
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Bears won't know until Monday.
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: There's no reason to whatsoever.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: I agree.
- 1:21:45Speaker 7: Keep them guessing.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: Christian Haynes, my guess is that Snyder, in concurrence with
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: the Quentin Nelson Deal tried to trade Christian Haynes. And
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: some may say, well, how could you? He started five
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: games this year, so the league has film on him.
- 1:21:55Speaker 7: I haven't seen anything. Did they put him on the practice?
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: I'm assuming. I don't know if he's cleared waivers yet.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: That probably usually happens early afternoon, so right about now.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: But I haven't seen a move to do that. That's
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: a likely move. But now they have until November 10th,
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: and now you have a four-year starter in Anthony Bradford
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: on your roster without maybe a place to play. That's
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: a prime trade candidate to me in an expiring contract.
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: Expiring contract, yeah.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: And he's still in his rookie deal. He's still in
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: his 20s.
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: That's the way we go, man. Fun times.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: Good times. Let's go. What do you got today?
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: We'll check in with... Ross Tucker usually is with us on... Thursdays,
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: but Ross is going to join us, former offensive lineman
- 1:22:32Speaker 7: in the NFL, which is good timing. He'll join us
- 1:22:34Speaker 7: at 1220 today, just because we're going to be out
- 1:22:37Speaker 7: at Seahawks, you and I, tomorrow, right? Thursday's a Wednesday,
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: Wednesday's a Thursday, right? So we'll be out there tomorrow.
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: So I wanted to push Ross to today, so Ross
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: coming up then. Stuart Mandel, all things college football. Is
- 1:22:50Speaker 7: there a chance, we'll ask Mandel, is there a chance
- 1:22:54Speaker 7: that a Three-loss Big Ten team from the Northwest, Oregon
- 1:22:59Speaker 7: or Washington, could find their way into the college football playoffs.
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:23:02Speaker 7: Because you know there's going to be three-loss teams from
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: the SEC in the college football playoff.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: I can't imagine Washington's going to end up with three losses.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: They've got Indiana, Oregon.
- 1:23:10Speaker 7: I'm going to bring it up just because it was
- 1:23:11Speaker 7: brought up yesterday on the 3-7 show. No surprise there.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: But the Ducks?
- 1:23:18Speaker 7: They don't deserve it. I don't think either one deserves it.
- 1:23:21Speaker 7: But we'll find out what's true. I think it'll probably
- 1:23:23Speaker 7: be you better have some top 25 wins, and they
- 1:23:24Speaker 7: don't really have those chances.
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: Indiana.
- 1:23:26Speaker 7: A Washington running the table in a win over Indiana
- 1:23:29Speaker 7: maybe changes things.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: That's true. If they compete Indiana.
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: Yeah. But anyway, we'll find out. So Mandel and then
- 1:23:34Speaker 7: Corbin Smith at 2 o'clock, and then I will see
- 1:23:36Speaker 7: you out at Seahawks tomorrow.
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: You will. Thank you. I'm laughing because Andy, my buddy, 206.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Blue Moon tastes like hot dog water.
- 1:23:42Speaker 7: Whoa.
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: It tastes pretty decent.
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: Hot dog water is something.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: That nobody should. I like it. My son loves Buc-ee's.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: He drove out of his way. He was on a
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: work trip to Denver, and he and his co-worker drove
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: to the middle of nowhere in eastern Colorado to go
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: to a Buc-ee's. I think that's the most western one
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: there is.
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: Probably is, yeah.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: If you're listening out there and you have some extra
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: layaround cash, start a Buc-ee's franchise in Washington State.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: We could use one. They have everything.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Everything.
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: Supposedly the brisket sandwich is unbelievable.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Beef brisket. There's a video online of a woman in
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: Texas going through about the beef brisket. It's hilarious. Anyway,
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I've got to go. All right, see you. Ian's up
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: next on 93.3 KGRFM.
