Transcript
- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 165, can you believe it? Lucas: I know. We've covered so much. But there's one thing we haven't done yet in Telugu. Luna: What's that? Lucas: Ordering chai or coffee. Think of it — we've done a whole café episode in English, but never the actual Telugu phrases for ordering a drink. Luna: Oh, that's such a good point. I love chai. So let's learn how to say 'I want chai'. Lucas: Perfect. The phrase is: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Lucas: Great! నాకు means 'to me' or 'I want'. చాయ్ is chai. కావాలి means 'want' or 'needed'. Luna: So literally 'to me chai is needed'. I like that. Lucas: Exactly. Say it again. Luna: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Lucas: Perfect. Now what if you want coffee instead of chai? Luna: Would it be నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి? Lucas: Exactly right. నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. That's easy. Lucas: Yeah. Now, if you're at a café and you want to order politely, you can say 'one coffee, please'. In Telugu, that's: ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. ఇవ్వండి means 'give', right? Lucas: Yes, it's the polite request form. So 'one coffee, give'. Luna: And for chai: ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice both. Repeat after me: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Lucas: నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. Luna: నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. Lucas: ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Telugu, there's a small way you can keep this going. Luna: Yeah, it's just a few listeners who chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: That's literally what funds making this many episodes. No ads, just listener support. Luna: And every little bit helps us keep teaching. Okay, back to chai. Lucas: So imagine you walk into a café. You can say: నాకు ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: నాకు ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. That combines 'I want' and 'give one coffee'. Lucas: Exactly. Or you can simply say: నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. Luna: I think I'll use నాకు చాయ్ కావాలi most. Lucas: Good choice. Now let's do a quick scene. I'm the server. You come in. Luna: Okay. నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. Lucas: Sure, here you go. Now you say: ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: Great. Now you try both phrases one more time. Luna: నాకు చాయ్ కావాలి. నాకు కాఫీ కావాలి. ఒక చాయ్ ఇవ్వండి. ఒక కాఫీ ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: Perfect. You're ready for your next café visit in Telugu. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I'm going to practice these all week. Lucas: Do that. And we'll be back with another tiny topic soon. Luna: See you next time. Practice these phrases till then. Lucas: Bye from Fexingo.
