- 0:00Speaker 1: I would say this, I understand what you're talking about
- 0:03Speaker 1: and your feelings and all the other kind of stuff,
- 0:05Speaker 1: but let me also say this, boy, you can no, No,
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm not discounting what you're saying at all. I get
- 0:11Speaker 1: what you're saying about your on the wall of the dialogue.
- 0:14Speaker 1: There are many Cowboy fans who are not in denial.
- 0:21Speaker 1: They're very angry about Jerry Jones. I'm very unhappy about
- 0:24Speaker 1: Jerry Jones and that sort of thing, just like you.
- 0:29Speaker 1: But they're not. They're not in denial about that, but
- 0:31Speaker 1: they they're not abandoning their fandom. Is you are trending
- 0:36Speaker 1: toward doing you know, they're not. They're not abandoning their fandom. Uh,
- 0:42Speaker 1: some are just.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Think about it.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I started saying, I know that my own son has
- 0:46Speaker 1: done it. I know some other people have said I'm
- 0:49Speaker 1: done with them, or at least and I think I've
- 0:51Speaker 1: heard you make this kind of comment. You're done with
- 0:54Speaker 1: them until Jerry Jones is not in control anymore.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And oh it was more like until Mike McCarthy's is
- 1:01Speaker 2: gone or they hire a head coach. I have faith,
- 1:03Speaker 2: and I'll tell you what, Craig, if what happened last night.
- 1:08Speaker 2: If it happened last year or the year before, I
- 1:14Speaker 2: would have my phone have been blowing up with texts
- 1:17Speaker 2: from people just you know, trolling the Cowboys. But because
- 1:20Speaker 2: the Cowboys are in are just so downtrodden, I think,
- 1:24Speaker 2: in a single text from anyone like making fun of me,
- 1:27Speaker 2: like hey, nice, nice job in the pump block, nobody
- 1:29Speaker 2: cares because the Cowboys are just that bad. If it
- 1:32Speaker 2: was a year ago, and of course the Cowboys at
- 1:33Speaker 2: a winning record, steven A would still be talking about
- 1:36Speaker 2: it right now at two thirty Central time. Yeah, but
- 1:38Speaker 2: because of their their record and their five wins, you know,
- 1:41Speaker 2: it's just kind of like, you know, it's just beating
- 1:43Speaker 2: a dead horse. I'm fair.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Okay, again, I agree with all of that. It does
- 1:49Speaker 1: not mean, however, that you can't continue to be a fan.
- 1:52Speaker 1: There is a term for this. It's called long suffering.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I was same with suffering. Yeah, suffering. I don't want
- 1:59Speaker 1: to suffer. Okay, then.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Who wants to suffer?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Then fandom is not for you, you know, fans. It is
- 2:07Speaker 1: our lot in life as sports fans to suffer because
- 2:11Speaker 1: nobody's team wins every single year. Nobody's team does. Alabama
- 2:17Speaker 1: fans are finding that out the hard way of these
- 2:20Speaker 1: past couple of years, especially this year. Nobody's team wins
- 2:24Speaker 1: every year. And I've said like and I repeated it.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'd said it long before in the past, and I
- 2:31Speaker 1: echo it again. When the Dodgers won the World Series
- 2:34Speaker 1: this year, and I was so thrilled as a fan,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I said, every fan. I even said it on Facebook,
- 2:38Speaker 1: every fan of a pro sports team anyway, or your
- 2:42Speaker 1: favorite team that you just give your heart and soul to.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Every fan deserves to see their team win a championship
- 2:51Speaker 1: at least once in their lifetime, whether it's a pro
- 2:55Speaker 1: football team or basketball or baseball. You've already experienced it
- 2:59Speaker 1: with the Rain. You were so young when the long
- 3:04Speaker 1: Wrens won the National Championships. He probably didn't enjoy it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I remember it, but yeah I didn't. I wouldn't have
- 3:08Speaker 1: enjoyed it as I would a championship this year, right exactly.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I get it.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But in order to enjoy that, to get the full
- 3:17Speaker 1: fulfillment of it, you have to walk through the valley
- 3:21Speaker 1: of the shadow of death, my friend, you have to
- 3:24Speaker 1: deal with you have to walk through the misery of
- 3:28Speaker 1: being a sports fan. If you are truly tied to
- 3:33Speaker 1: that team. That's all I'm saying. You don't have to.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'm just saying that it's it makes being a fan
- 3:38Speaker 1: more worthwhile if you have suffered with him. The problem
- 3:41Speaker 1: is for you and for a lot of Cowboy fans,
- 3:43Speaker 1: is that you've suffered too long.
- 3:45Speaker 2: And I get that. And what makes the suffering worse
- 3:48Speaker 2: is that we have an owner like Jerry Jones.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no doubt, which brings us to some sound
- 4:00Speaker 1: Jerry Jones. So let's let's hear from Jay and again,
- 4:03Speaker 1: this is what he does every Tuesday, goes on one
- 4:06Speaker 1: O five three of the fan the Convery station there
- 4:09Speaker 1: in Dallas Fort Worth, and he gets on there with
- 4:12Speaker 1: r J and Sean the rest of the crew. And
- 4:17Speaker 1: so they asked him a lot of different questions. So
- 4:19Speaker 1: here's here's one here, how about his overall view of
- 4:23Speaker 1: the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last night?
- 4:29Speaker 3: Still very disappointed, just feel like we finished up the game,
- 4:33Speaker 3: but at this juncture, But sure disappointed to these players overall.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I thought they gave an outstanding effort. We had a
- 4:44Speaker 3: lot of people get in there and contribute that we
- 4:48Speaker 3: frankly hadn't expected to be playing with at this time
- 4:51Speaker 3: to this degree, and so in that side it was
- 4:55Speaker 3: a plus. It's just a real this pointing to for
- 5:02Speaker 3: everyone concerned. I know the play feel the sad way
- 5:05Speaker 3: to lose a ball game, like the way we lost
- 5:08Speaker 3: that game after giving ourself that shot to win him.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, that's one thing. So then they asked
- 5:14Speaker 1: him about the punt block and the block that comes,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and then the money warrior touching the ball and they
- 5:18Speaker 1: get a little light ball and Bengals recovered. It's just
- 5:23Speaker 1: bad all the way around.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Yes, let me let me say this, or they kicked
- 5:28Speaker 3: the ball, Yes, let me let me say this, or
- 5:33Speaker 3: they kicked cabal. Let's say they get a good punt.
- 5:38Speaker 3: It had been booming them all night long. He'd had
- 5:40Speaker 3: good yardage on his punts. We've got to go down
- 5:44Speaker 3: uh and get with them close enough that field goal
- 5:50Speaker 3: to get about thirty forty four yards if you assume
- 5:54Speaker 3: that he gets a good punt off. Our offense had
- 5:59Speaker 3: had it's plus is, but it also been stemning a
- 6:04Speaker 3: couple of times there too. Frankly, when I really reviewed
- 6:08Speaker 3: it after the dust had settled, it was not a
- 6:12Speaker 3: bad call and was executed on the front end of
- 6:16Speaker 3: the punt block very very effectively. And I had revisited
- 6:26Speaker 3: the look on the way the ball hit and it
- 6:29Speaker 3: really kind of bounced up in a way that was
- 6:34Speaker 3: almost unavoidable. The players are coached up, they talk it up,
- 6:40Speaker 3: they are constantly reminded that when a ball is blocked
- 6:44Speaker 3: on special teams, you run from the ball. You don't
- 6:47Speaker 3: ever get near the ball. And of course that ball
- 6:50Speaker 3: hit just right and back up into our player. I
- 6:55Speaker 3: liked to call I'm going to second guess that call.
- 6:58Speaker 3: That call had a lot of logitude. There's organized the
- 7:02Speaker 3: kicking game is organized. Chaos out there, a lot of
- 7:05Speaker 3: moving parts. Everybody's got a lot of different things to
- 7:13Speaker 3: keep in mind. And that was a mistake not to
- 7:17Speaker 3: run from the ball. But you've got to assume that
- 7:20Speaker 3: he saw the ball. You've got to assume he knew
- 7:22Speaker 3: where the ball was, all of those kinds of things.
- 7:25Speaker 3: So unquestionably, it was a play that you'll keep in
- 7:30Speaker 3: your mind forever. Probably that had the player done differently,
- 7:37Speaker 3: then we would have got possession right there and a
- 7:40Speaker 3: good chance would win the ball game. But the second
- 7:44Speaker 3: guessing would come from letting them kick it free and
- 7:48Speaker 3: taking the ball to wink to the field to get
- 7:50Speaker 3: within the field goal range, or whether or not you
- 7:53Speaker 3: should risk all the nuances of trying to block a kick,
- 7:57Speaker 3: getting possession and then making it. And the more you
- 8:02Speaker 3: look at it, the more you see that it was
- 8:04Speaker 3: a well thought out, had well scouted. It was a
- 8:10Speaker 3: really diagram well, I said, out with a special teams
- 8:13Speaker 3: coach at the game and he showed me before the
- 8:17Speaker 3: play diagram. It was very well caught out and they
- 8:23Speaker 3: lined up and the way they tried to block it,
- 8:25Speaker 3: I mean, the way they tried to block us up
- 8:28Speaker 3: to keep us from blocking the kit panned out excellent force.
- 8:31Speaker 3: So from that standpoint, it was a play that we executed.
- 8:37Speaker 3: The ball, of course, didn't bounce our way.
- 8:40Speaker 1: All right, that's a little that's a little weird, because.
- 8:50Speaker 2: A little weird.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I don't think anyone, whether you're a cowboy fan or
- 8:55Speaker 1: a dispassionate analyst or whatever, I don't think anybody anyone
- 9:01Speaker 1: had any issue with him going after the punt and
- 9:03Speaker 1: blocking it. Yes, as special teams because John Fossil, right,
- 9:09Speaker 1: is that right? Yeah? The way they drew it up,
- 9:12Speaker 1: he talked about it, sat down with a Special teams coach,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and we talked about, yes, it was well designed to
- 9:18Speaker 1: go after and get it and block it and all
- 9:20Speaker 1: that other kind of stuff. Great effort on that. Nobody's
- 9:23Speaker 1: disputing that. He made it sound like he was trying
- 9:25Speaker 1: to defend the decision to block the punt. Nobody that
- 9:29Speaker 1: I have heard of, read, or seen has any problem
- 9:33Speaker 1: with them going after the punt. That's not the thing.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The thing is making sure all your guys know the rule,
- 9:40Speaker 1: or even if they know the rule in the case
- 9:42Speaker 1: of a warrior, maybe he just got aggressive because he
- 9:45Speaker 1: thought he could feel it on the hop like a
- 9:47Speaker 1: scoop and score and take off. But you got it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But is the reward worth the risk at that point
- 9:54Speaker 1: or just let it go out of bounds around the
- 9:55Speaker 1: forty yard line then you have it there. That's the
- 9:59Speaker 1: issue here. It's not the decision to go after the pund.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Everybody's gonna say, yeah, if you can block the pump,
- 10:06Speaker 1: block the punt, just get the hell away, don't touch
- 10:09Speaker 1: it when it comes through. And that's what he didn't
- 10:12Speaker 1: really get into.
- 10:13Speaker 2: One other thing.
- 10:14Speaker 1: He was asked if he was satisfied with the team's
- 10:17Speaker 1: attention to detail, because this would fall into that category
- 10:21Speaker 1: of attention to detail, knowing the rule, understanding even if
- 10:25Speaker 1: you can completely understand the rule, understanding the risk versus
- 10:30Speaker 1: reward on this.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Yes, yes, it's starting their attention to detail with this team,
- 10:35Speaker 3: specially on special teams. And we've had special teams played
- 10:41Speaker 3: work bots this year. We've had a backfire own this
- 10:43Speaker 3: this year. It's a big point of emphsis. John does
- 10:49Speaker 3: an outstanding job or Special Teams coach is considered one
- 10:53Speaker 3: of the very best who is in a game, and
- 10:55Speaker 3: I would tell you first hand being around his being
- 11:00Speaker 3: around how he prepares these guys. It's unfortunate that the
- 11:09Speaker 3: play didn't the execute and causes to win the game.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, And like you said, whether it's a lack
- 11:16Speaker 1: of execution on that or is it not taking the
- 11:22Speaker 1: better path by just letting it go out of bounds
- 11:26Speaker 1: or just squib to a dead halt, Because if nobody
- 11:29Speaker 1: touches it and it just lays there in play, then
- 11:32Speaker 1: the officials blow it dead. It looked like it was
- 11:35Speaker 1: gonna skid her out of bounds. Eventually, it wouldn't matter
- 11:38Speaker 1: if even if one of the Bengals had picked it up.
- 11:41Speaker 1: As long as you don't it doesn't matter. That's the
- 11:46Speaker 1: issue here, all right. We're gonna hear more from Jerry
- 11:50Speaker 1: next hour and in the four o'clock hour as well,
- 11:52Speaker 1: talking about de Barbie had overshown with the unfortunate injury,
- 11:56Speaker 1: his thoughts on whether they could still make the playoffs,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and other guys as well on this team. So we'll
- 12:01Speaker 1: do all that, but up next, we have Inconceivable for
- 12:04Speaker 1: a Tuesday afternoon here on Sports Radio A.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I'm thirteen under the Zone.
