- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists and artists and Artists.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This week on the show Hold Up, Let's back up,
- 0:10Speaker 2: we're talking to storytellers.
- 0:13Speaker 3: If you're wondering how we got there, perhaps these storytellers
- 0:18Speaker 3: can tell you how from point A to point B
- 0:21Speaker 3: and the arcs in between. The stories that you're about
- 0:24Speaker 3: to hear are live and real.
- 0:30Speaker 4: The Moth Radio Hour has some of the best storytellers
- 0:33Speaker 4: you've ever seen, but maybe these next couple of storytellers
- 0:37Speaker 4: have been on the Moth and have elevated the game.
- 0:41Speaker 5: So pull up a seat, or listen in, or do
- 0:44Speaker 5: whatever you'd like, because we're just telling stories today. Let's
- 0:47Speaker 5: listen in.
- 0:55Speaker 4: It's just amazing to be all in the same room
- 0:59Speaker 4: with such like minded people that traverse the world in
- 1:06Speaker 4: the same way that I do.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I find it incredible to be around such wonderful souls
- 1:13Speaker 1: and months.
- 1:16Speaker 4: The way your mind perceives in my mind perceived feel
- 1:23Speaker 4: symmetrical and yet paradoxical.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You know, we're all looking at the same disco wall,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but from different beams of light.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Thank you for sharing that. That is why we do this,
- 1:44Speaker 3: That is why we gather. We gather in a space
- 1:49Speaker 3: to learn to hear, to grow, and to change, and
- 1:58Speaker 3: stories they do that.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I mean here, stories are perfect and powerful sound that
- 2:07Speaker 1: I can feel, you know, I think here heartbreak feels
- 2:11Speaker 1: good on a.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Place like those reference heroes. Well, I've always thought they're
- 2:17Speaker 3: the best part of us.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Hi, my name is Daniel Rocky. I am from Santa Anita.
- 2:27Speaker 5: I have been telling stories since I was three years old,
- 2:35Speaker 5: but only started kind of competitively doing it in my
- 2:39Speaker 5: later teens. Thank you for having me today.
- 2:47Speaker 3: I'd like to sit with what you've just said.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I mean, there was even a story in that introduction
- 2:55Speaker 4: to you.
- 2:57Speaker 1: The choice of words for late teens was sensational.
- 3:02Speaker 3: It evokes not the girl of twelve years old getting
- 3:08Speaker 3: her ears pierced at club Libby Lou.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Is this you you're talking about?
- 3:14Speaker 3: She might be her?
- 3:20Speaker 5: Who might be her?
- 3:22Speaker 4: She?
- 3:24Speaker 3: You and she? We are all part of this. These
- 3:32Speaker 3: stories are perfect and powerful.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Which one.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yours?
- 3:38Speaker 5: I just did a little bit of a prologue. I
- 3:40Speaker 5: didn't really start my story yet.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear the rest of your story.
- 3:49Speaker 4: My name hails from a mountaintop and arrives in a cloud.
- 3:58Speaker 4: My parents we're always on top of a mountain, and
- 4:03Speaker 4: then they had me and fell into a valley, and
- 4:07Speaker 4: that was the cloud that surrounded the valley. I'm Trey
- 4:11Speaker 4: Mount and I don't tell stories. I tell life. I've
- 4:17Speaker 4: been on Moth Radio Lab three and a half times.
- 4:21Speaker 4: One time they would not let me finish. And I
- 4:25Speaker 4: believe in the power that life telling can do. It
- 4:29Speaker 4: can change the world, it can stop bad things, it
- 4:32Speaker 4: can help each other and all of us see inside
- 4:37Speaker 4: of what we're all experiencing in a way that taps
- 4:40Speaker 4: us in to empathy, sympathy and pain. And those are
- 4:46Speaker 4: the three big things that my life focuses on.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Where are you from? Where do you hail?
- 4:53Speaker 4: I hail from a mountain, mountain that was in Colorado.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Rockies Rocky Road ice cream makes That's what makes me
- 5:04Speaker 5: think of having Rocky Road ice cream with my grandmother
- 5:07Speaker 5: when I was eight.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Rocky Road for me was being a gay man in Dallas,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Texas in the seventies, having a different journey. My name
- 5:20Speaker 1: is Eugene Capone. I tell stories about Thank you.
- 5:25Speaker 5: Is your neck okay, Eugene, It's fine, It's sleep on
- 5:31Speaker 5: it kind of weird.
- 5:32Speaker 1: No, It's where I like to perch. My head is
- 5:36Speaker 1: my hand, because everything that I've gotten I've gotten with
- 5:42Speaker 1: the use of my hands. And one thing I've gotten
- 5:46Speaker 1: is the ability to speak and to support my brain
- 5:50Speaker 1: Through my storytelling. I tell humorous stories about moments that
- 5:56Speaker 1: might be slight to you but have a lasting impact,
- 6:00Speaker 1: usually observations that are so granular and specific that makes
- 6:07Speaker 1: you realize that God in life and whatever you may
- 6:11Speaker 1: think is out there really is in the details. I
- 6:16Speaker 1: have a story that was very popular on the Moth
- 6:20Speaker 1: that went on to TL this American life as we
- 6:23Speaker 1: all know it in the industry. As you guys know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: what was your first My first TAL was two thousand
- 6:28Speaker 1: and nine, and then they reran it in twenty sixteen,
- 6:33Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, twenty twenty two. I count reruns as original airings. Yeah,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and I told a story about standing in line waiting
- 6:44Speaker 1: to buy a picture frame at a hobby lobby behind
- 6:46Speaker 1: a loud mother.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I heard this story.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I loved this story, and it made me kind of
- 6:53Speaker 1: a celebrity in the gay man telling story circle.
- 6:58Speaker 4: It's a huge circle, just so, the gay circle.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, the ones to tell stories.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And did you think all humans tell stories?
- 7:09Speaker 4: Yes?
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think they do, but some of them are not
- 7:12Speaker 1: meant to be heard. And I just love to tell
- 7:16Speaker 1: these stories and use my perception to make you aware
- 7:22Speaker 1: of the things you haven't been perceiving.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Hmm, thank you. I'd like to start by where I've been.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I was never good at French. It was always difficult,
- 7:52Speaker 3: the present participle, the past parciple, participle. It just never
- 8:00Speaker 3: ever really sat right with me. Como ale who That
- 8:05Speaker 3: wasn't my game. So when I was presented with the
- 8:11Speaker 3: possibility of studying abroad for three months, away from my
- 8:18Speaker 3: little home in Arcadia, California, I thought no way. But
- 8:26Speaker 3: then I remembered what my mother told me.
- 8:28Speaker 4: So, what is your name?
- 8:31Speaker 5: She's getting to it.
- 8:33Speaker 3: To start to give you that I have to give
- 8:36Speaker 3: you where I've fit.
- 8:38Speaker 5: She's never understood French. It's getting some welcome back.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think we're going to I think we're going to
- 8:44Speaker 1: learn there's something to do with French in her name.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And then it made her learn more about herself.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Start there.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I know how this story start.
- 8:53Speaker 3: And my mother told me. Sometimes, you know, when you
- 8:57Speaker 3: lose your card again and you can't find it and
- 9:01Speaker 3: the sleeve is poking out from somewhere in the bed.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Sometimes you have to pull it to.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Get metaphor, which means her name's probably right around the corner.
- 9:10Speaker 4: And why is she losing a card to get into bed?
- 9:12Speaker 5: It's the second metaphor. It means we're close to the driveway.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I don't find that relable for me, and so I.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Pulled the card again of my life. And when I
- 9:24Speaker 3: stepped off the plane at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, France,
- 9:31Speaker 3: the immigration officer said, what's your name? And I sah
- 9:38Speaker 3: Maria Eliza Basket and I'm here for business and pleasure.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Thank you. I'm as I said, I'm from Arcadia. I
- 9:51Speaker 3: have been on the Moth several times and.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Six sony a cuttings.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I'm counting original stories. And so they sent me. I'm
- 10:07Speaker 3: not sure if any of you have been sent this.
- 10:10Speaker 3: The the sweatir the sweatshirt.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I have the sweatshirt as well the neck. They
- 10:17Speaker 1: have the crew neck and I have the zip up Fleee's.
- 10:20Speaker 5: Where's the zip up? Is that old?
- 10:21Speaker 4: Oh?
- 10:22Speaker 1: You don't have the zip of Fleae?
- 10:23Speaker 4: I had the zip up? Police?
- 10:24Speaker 3: How many times before they sent you a zip up? Pleae?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Well, the Moth sent me the zip of Flease after
- 10:30Speaker 1: my first time. The zip of flee is not earned
- 10:33Speaker 1: by the amount of times, it's the amount of, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: worthwhile times.
- 10:38Speaker 5: So Tea, Sure it's not like the year that you
- 10:39Speaker 5: participated in the moth because I feel like, do you.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Think there was an email that maybe they were supposed
- 10:44Speaker 3: to give out.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But I received an email that I was getting a
- 10:48Speaker 1: zip up. Please, it's actually a fascinating story. I was
- 10:52Speaker 1: sitting on my corduroy couch.
- 10:57Speaker 4: It's gonna be a long one, sitting.
- 10:59Speaker 1: On my corduroy couch, the couch that I got on
- 11:01Speaker 1: a yard sale. The woman said, take what you can.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I can't take anything else. She was going through a divorce.
- 11:09Speaker 1: She said the best memories of her life are on
- 11:12Speaker 1: that couch, but she can't afford to have it in
- 11:14Speaker 1: the new apartment. There's a lot of stuff around there,
- 11:20Speaker 1: a lot of what would be gotten things of that
- 11:22Speaker 1: yard sale. A necklace that say be Frey, another necklace
- 11:27Speaker 1: that says ends nowhere to be seen.
- 11:33Speaker 4: That was your story.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Oh I'm not done. Sorry, I'm just give your whole
- 11:38Speaker 1: moth story. No, this isn't a moth story. This is
- 11:40Speaker 1: something that happened to me. Sorry, this could be a
- 11:44Speaker 1: story if it's good, let me know if it's good
- 11:45Speaker 1: to be able to use it.
- 11:46Speaker 5: I was gonna say a moth story versus what something
- 11:48Speaker 5: that's happened to you?
- 11:49Speaker 4: That's both.
- 11:50Speaker 1: So I took the couch home. I was sitting on
- 11:52Speaker 1: it and I found a little quarter in it, and
- 11:56Speaker 1: the quarter was interesting. Me and my ex husband used
- 11:59Speaker 1: to look at quarters. We used to save them. He
- 12:02Speaker 1: was obsessed with buying mint mints online, you know, the
- 12:06Speaker 1: special Kennedy quarter, stuff like that. When he left, he
- 12:11Speaker 1: took everything with him. But I found this quarter, a
- 12:14Speaker 1: quarter that I knew he would think was wonderful. But
- 12:16Speaker 1: I can't talk to him anymore. We're no contact, no contact.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We don't talk, but we fuck.
- 12:25Speaker 5: There's no way to going back to the zip zip right.
- 12:27Speaker 5: The police.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Anyways, lives on the X. He usually kind of wraps
- 12:33Speaker 4: it up.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I was landing on that. I was sitting on the
- 12:35Speaker 1: quarter of the couch looking at this quarter, thinking what
- 12:37Speaker 1: can I do with this? I was wondering when he
- 12:39Speaker 1: was going to reach out to me. I looked, I
- 12:41Speaker 1: got an email. The email said, we're sitting out the
- 12:44Speaker 1: police's can you send your size? I said, extra large?
- 12:48Speaker 3: And I have to know. I'm I'm so curious. What
- 12:52Speaker 3: did you end up doing with the quarter?
- 12:56Speaker 1: I put it back in the couch, and I thought,
- 12:59Speaker 1: if I ever knee it, it's there. And if he
- 13:03Speaker 1: ever comes home and we are rolling around and having
- 13:07Speaker 1: a moment of passion, passion like we used to have
- 13:09Speaker 1: when we met at the State Fair in two thousand
- 13:11Speaker 1: and two, he'll reach into the crevices find a quarter
- 13:17Speaker 1: and say, Wow, I feel so lucky, and I'll know
- 13:21Speaker 1: all along, Yeah, you are lucky.
- 13:26Speaker 5: I knew that he is the lucky one.
- 13:28Speaker 1: He's the lucky one.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I like to say, that's a way forward? About what
- 13:32Speaker 4: I say? That's a way forward? Oh that's interesting, because
- 13:35Speaker 4: you know, life for me is just about finding ways forward.
- 13:38Speaker 4: You know, you never know what path you're going to
- 13:40Speaker 4: end up on. With the path that you're walking on,
- 13:42Speaker 4: there's a lot of forks in the road. That's not
- 13:44Speaker 4: only two directions before five six. What you're looking for
- 13:48Speaker 4: is just a way forward? Do you do way forward?
- 13:51Speaker 4: Did you go to church? I am a saved from church.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Man's constructionists you were.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Saved from church.
- 14:00Speaker 4: I was saved from church. So I don't believe in religion.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I don't think organized religion is good in this world,
- 14:12Speaker 4: but I do believe that above the world, there is
- 14:15Speaker 4: some sort of universal power that embodies itself in every
- 14:21Speaker 4: single fragment, every single little thing in this universe. And
- 14:26Speaker 4: if you pick at the seam of one of these things,
- 14:30Speaker 4: you'll get life. And that is a way forward.
- 14:35Speaker 3: I really do I have permission to pay you a
- 14:38Speaker 3: compliment you do. I appreciate the way you use your
- 14:43Speaker 3: hands in stories. How I think most people when they
- 14:48Speaker 3: have the instinct to say two, they use these two fingers,
- 14:53Speaker 3: But you're not using those two fingers. You're using entirely
- 14:57Speaker 3: different ones, and they're telling a different story.
- 15:00Speaker 4: And thank you.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Where does that come from?
- 15:02Speaker 4: So that actually, I've never even heard this that I
- 15:06Speaker 4: use my hands. It's insane that you would point that
- 15:09Speaker 4: out for me. That comes from Probably I just wasn't
- 15:13Speaker 4: raised like everybody else. I've just always been a little
- 15:15Speaker 4: bit more observant on the world in a way. My
- 15:18Speaker 4: eyes are opened in a way that sees things that
- 15:21Speaker 4: I've noticed that a lot of people can't see. You know,
- 15:25Speaker 4: their eyes are closed on the world, and I'm on
- 15:29Speaker 4: top of it, eyes open, surfing down the lines. I'm
- 15:32Speaker 4: always looking for these ways forward, and I'm always just
- 15:35Speaker 4: seeing things and experiencing things that I just don't know
- 15:40Speaker 4: if people experience.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Can I ask a girl?
- 15:45Speaker 4: So this people? But it could be a girl a
- 15:48Speaker 4: small way.
- 15:49Speaker 3: So that's a girl, and this is people.
- 15:51Speaker 1: This is a girl, and this is people.
- 15:52Speaker 4: No see, if you were watching, this was me experiencing.
- 15:56Speaker 4: This is people experiencing. And I didn't say.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I remember that being a girl in your story to her,
- 16:06Speaker 3: what happened to the girl? And where is that girl?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Now?
- 16:10Speaker 4: I didn't bring up a girl.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Aren't you surprised? It was me inserting myself. M okay,
- 16:18Speaker 5: like the ragged little bone, I am.
- 16:22Speaker 4: You are a funny one, aren't you.
- 16:24Speaker 3: I find that humor stories are so important and so valuable.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I love your humor stories.
- 16:29Speaker 5: I wouldn't call my story humor. I would call them more.
- 16:33Speaker 5: The line you're about to cross, I walk it. I
- 16:36Speaker 5: walk it home.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So the line someone else is about to cross, you
- 16:40Speaker 1: walk it? So in what way? Another if the.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Comedian is meant to show you where the line is,
- 16:47Speaker 5: I walk it all the way home.
- 16:49Speaker 3: You walked the line.
- 16:50Speaker 4: As an example, what if I told you?
- 16:53Speaker 5: What if I told you. Out of every single person
- 16:57Speaker 5: sleeping every night, I'm not one of them.
- 17:02Speaker 4: What are you doing?
- 17:03Speaker 5: What if I told you I'm an insomniac before a storyteller,
- 17:09Speaker 5: I'm an insomniac.
- 17:11Speaker 4: So what is the line you're walking now? Walking home?
- 17:14Speaker 5: The line I'm walking today is a line of redemption,
- 17:17Speaker 5: a line of I just need a minute. I just
- 17:20Speaker 5: need a minute to clear my what?
- 17:24Speaker 3: I just need a minute. That's just such a relatable
- 17:27Speaker 3: injection of humor that that I think we can all
- 17:31Speaker 3: relate to.
- 17:32Speaker 4: It's if we just had a minute each, I think
- 17:34Speaker 4: people would be happier.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Isn't it so funny that a minute is a joke
- 17:39Speaker 1: to an hour? What an hour thinks a minute it's funny?
- 17:45Speaker 1: But a minute doesn't think it's funny?
- 17:47Speaker 3: What well? I would say, the hour doesn't think of
- 17:50Speaker 3: the minute even at all. And that's what's so funny
- 17:53Speaker 3: about that.
- 17:54Speaker 5: When I think of an hour, I think of my
- 17:56Speaker 5: mom when she climbed this mountain. She left me and
- 17:58Speaker 5: my dad and she said, I'm off to climb a mountain,
- 18:01Speaker 5: mountain I couldn't tell you the mountain of I don't
- 18:04Speaker 5: know men, no pause.
- 18:07Speaker 1: She went off alone to have menopause.
- 18:10Speaker 5: That's what dad said. He said, cheer up, kid, cheer up, Rocky.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Mom's moms climbing the mountain of menopause. And I said,
- 18:19Speaker 5: but what about dinner? I said, what about breakfast? Who's
- 18:25Speaker 5: going to do that? And my dad said, there's a
- 18:27Speaker 5: new man in town and he's your dad and he's
- 18:31Speaker 5: your paw.
- 18:32Speaker 4: So all you expected your mom to do was make
- 18:34Speaker 4: dinner breakfast? Whoa, whoa? Whoa?
- 18:39Speaker 5: Is that the beginning of where I begin, where my
- 18:42Speaker 5: learning is. I'm so fucked and I need to sleep.
- 18:47Speaker 4: See you are humorous.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I haven't.
- 18:50Speaker 1: You're very funny.
- 18:51Speaker 3: You are very funny. Story.
- 18:53Speaker 4: You're safe.
- 18:54Speaker 3: That is so funny, very funny story.
- 18:56Speaker 5: It's just the water.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Never had water all I drink is what.
- 19:05Speaker 1: That's funny. The thing about it is, you know, yes,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you just mentioned I haven't slept in days. I believe
- 19:12Speaker 1: a day would think an hour and a minute or
- 19:14Speaker 1: the same. You know, if you're talking to a day,
- 19:16Speaker 1: they're lumping in an hour and a minute, but we
- 19:18Speaker 1: know an hour and a.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Minute or but well, our day is day friends with
- 19:21Speaker 5: the week.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 19:24Speaker 1: It's I feel like it's like a little brother situation.
- 19:27Speaker 4: See. What I would say is a week would always
- 19:29Speaker 4: be saying I just need a minute, I just need
- 19:34Speaker 4: one minute.
- 19:35Speaker 1: That's really really interesting, that's really fascinating.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Does the week for some reason remind you, guys, of
- 19:41Speaker 5: your first love?
- 19:44Speaker 4: I was just going to ask, that was Does the
- 19:48Speaker 4: week remind you of your love?
- 19:50Speaker 1: You were going to ask.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Just because I'm young and just because I look like
- 19:53Speaker 5: Mike TV doesn't mean you could be mean to me.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be mean. I think the youth
- 19:59Speaker 4: have so you an interesting tap into what's going on
- 20:04Speaker 4: in the world that I think your perspective.
- 20:06Speaker 5: And what do you know about me?
- 20:08Speaker 4: What do I know?
- 20:09Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 20:10Speaker 4: I know that you are like me. How made of atoms?
- 20:14Speaker 4: Made of water? Ideas flowing a fountain of knowledge that
- 20:25Speaker 4: people are waiting to drink.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Water.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Listen, I have a question, and I never did this.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Would you mind reciting Eminem's Lose Yourself just a little bit?
- 20:36Speaker 4: I get this all the time, Lose yourself.
- 20:44Speaker 1: From the beginning of the song, the real lyrics, not
- 20:46Speaker 1: the chorus.
- 20:49Speaker 4: How does that goes these weeks? Oh? What's the first line?
- 20:56Speaker 4: What is the first line of that? Does they mean?
- 21:00Speaker 5: Goodness? Gracious?
- 21:01Speaker 1: Four?
- 21:02Speaker 5: Storytellers are in a room.
- 21:03Speaker 4: If you had if you.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Your storytellers, try to remember.
- 21:07Speaker 4: One this meme. This reminds me of storytellers. Does it
- 21:13Speaker 4: take to recite you remember? Lose yourself?
- 21:17Speaker 3: Lose yourself?
- 21:18Speaker 5: If I had a nickel and that nickel represented you.
- 21:21Speaker 3: It's sort of love of those classic setups. None of
- 21:26Speaker 3: Rabbi walk into a bar. How many does it take?
- 21:30Speaker 4: Okay?
- 21:30Speaker 5: As classic as mm hmmm mm hmm, it just went away?
- 21:38Speaker 4: Okay, okay?
- 21:43Speaker 5: Do you use your kindle as a phone? You can
- 21:47Speaker 5: make a call on a kindle.
- 21:50Speaker 4: My lover, his palms are sweaty, knees, weak, arms are heavy.
- 21:58Speaker 4: There's vomit on our better already better spaghetti. He's nervous,
- 22:07Speaker 4: but on the surface he's calm and ready to drop bombs.
- 22:13Speaker 4: But he keeps on forgetting. Thank you.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Can I ask if you did this, if you get
- 22:20Speaker 5: a show with a law, what would you do with
- 22:26Speaker 5: the other hand so.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You would not believe?
- 22:32Speaker 5: I kind of just want to see you do that
- 22:33Speaker 5: exact same thing but with two ants.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yes, so.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I like it a lot less.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Oh, this is a different feels like.
- 22:44Speaker 1: This is magician.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Work, This is hypnotism.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Okay, so now he doesn't talk.
- 22:51Speaker 4: His palms are sweaty, arms heavy, there's vomit on a
- 22:57Speaker 4: sweater already, moms spaghetti. He's nervous, but on the surface
- 23:04Speaker 4: he's calm and ready to drop bombs. But he keeps
- 23:08Speaker 4: on forgetting that the whole crowd will go so loud.
- 23:17Speaker 5: So you do have the dominant hand.
- 23:18Speaker 4: It feels yeah, right, is my dominant dominant.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Thank god we had the secondhand to visualize the SAGETI.
- 23:26Speaker 5: I didn't know how long it was with the first hand,
- 23:28Speaker 5: because yeah, and it.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Was so much more to say with the second.
- 23:31Speaker 4: You guys have to come to my shows. I would
- 23:33Speaker 4: love for you guys to come to my shows.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Where do you guys do shows?
- 23:37Speaker 4: I mostly do?
- 23:43Speaker 5: Please just answer, please, please answer.
- 23:49Speaker 4: My shows are mostly at stand up and Tell. There's
- 23:55Speaker 4: a great thing in Boulder, Colorado called stand Up and Hell.
- 24:00Speaker 4: It's where I run a lot of my stories. It's
- 24:02Speaker 4: run by a moth old vj J Video jockey and
- 24:09Speaker 4: he just lets me go up and try new stories.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Nice.
- 24:13Speaker 4: What about you?
- 24:14Speaker 1: I have a first look deal with Romans bookstores, so
- 24:19Speaker 1: they get to it's crowd. So I showed them the
- 24:22Speaker 1: story first and if they don't want it, I can
- 24:24Speaker 1: take it out to other.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Email it to them, or do you like tell it
- 24:26Speaker 5: to them?
- 24:27Speaker 1: I have to go ahead and tell the clerks.
- 24:29Speaker 4: So you tell the clerks. They decide if they like
- 24:31Speaker 4: your story.
- 24:31Speaker 5: I have to tell a physical first look.
- 24:33Speaker 1: It's great.
- 24:35Speaker 3: It's more like a first here.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Spencer and Nathan love me. But there's this new girl, Regina,
- 24:39Speaker 1: and she cannot stand me in if she's working, I'm
- 24:42Speaker 1: not getting booked. It's so frustrating, but I like it.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean, it's nice. It's a nice place, and the
- 24:48Speaker 1: audience is so warm at Romance, it's just so nice.
- 24:54Speaker 1: They're my crowd. They love the minutia. In Pasadena, everything
- 24:57Speaker 1: is about details.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Yes, do you ever do the the Tell me more,
- 25:04Speaker 3: Mike and Burbank, tell me more.
- 25:07Speaker 5: I did kids Night, I did Junior Night.
- 25:09Speaker 3: You did Junior Night. It tell me more. Oh, it's
- 25:11Speaker 3: nice that they have a junior Night.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Everywhere has a junior night for everything.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Everything has everything.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Literally bowling, there's a junior Night.
- 25:19Speaker 1: That's a good name for a show or sorry, excuse me,
- 25:22Speaker 1: a story. Junior Night. Have you written a story called
- 25:25Speaker 1: junior Night.
- 25:25Speaker 5: I'm working on a show full show, a show, a
- 25:28Speaker 5: full show, full storytelling show, somewhere in between a story
- 25:33Speaker 5: and a novel, but on its feet. And I want
- 25:37Speaker 5: to fill the crowd with old people. And I also
- 25:40Speaker 5: they can hear you, so they can hear me.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I think this is such a unique You.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Can hear you, they can hear me.
- 25:53Speaker 4: What do you guys think love is?
- 25:56Speaker 3: That's really interesting. I mean, I'm sure we all have
- 25:59Speaker 3: a love story.
- 26:02Speaker 1: We do.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Mine looks a little different.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Of course, it starts somewhere we don't expect. Here comes.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I'm in the axe throwing bar. I know, I know,
- 26:18Speaker 3: but I was invited via Slack for a company outing.
- 26:24Speaker 3: My boss said that it was the place we'd go
- 26:27Speaker 3: to make some friends. Oh great, me sitting around with
- 26:32Speaker 3: a bunch of coworkers I don't know, having to throw
- 26:36Speaker 3: axes and drink IPAs. What is this the year twenty fourteen?
- 26:44Speaker 3: In all seriousness, my father had just passed away. I
- 26:48Speaker 3: had seven marbles left in my purse, marbles from his
- 26:55Speaker 3: game of Mancala that he's so effortlessly left in my
- 26:58Speaker 3: car when I dropped him off on the airport on
- 27:02Speaker 3: the way to the hospital.
- 27:05Speaker 4: The airport, I'm not going to ask why I'm just
- 27:10Speaker 4: I'm just calling attention to the way on the airport.
- 27:13Speaker 1: On the way.
- 27:16Speaker 5: Do you.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Finished flying? Going to the hospital?
- 27:25Speaker 5: He was going on the airport.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Was always our game, okay, Ever since I was a
- 27:34Speaker 3: little girl, we any bad day at school, any bully,
- 27:40Speaker 3: any rough grade on a test, any lunch that got
- 27:44Speaker 3: stolen from me before I had the chance to eat it. Hey, sport,
- 27:50Speaker 3: you want to play some mancala? That's what would greet
- 27:53Speaker 3: me when I got home.
- 27:54Speaker 5: What was the question, just so I can prep for
- 27:58Speaker 5: welcome question was what is love?
- 28:01Speaker 1: Okay?
- 28:01Speaker 3: So when I finally fell in love for the first
- 28:03Speaker 3: time over a couple of axes and some bubbling IPAs
- 28:10Speaker 3: and that one coworker with that story about Bermuda that
- 28:13Speaker 3: I just can't seem to care about, I was swept
- 28:25Speaker 3: off my feet in a way that I didn't expect.
- 28:30Speaker 3: But when I slipped on that seventh marble, I learned
- 28:35Speaker 3: sometimes you have to fall before you can know.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Did you hear her slip on six Mars before that?
- 28:42Speaker 4: She had?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Wow?
- 28:53Speaker 4: This episode is really funny so far, wouldn't you say, Kylie?
- 28:55Speaker 3: I think I'd say so, Jeremy, And you know, I'd
- 28:58Speaker 3: say that there's a lot of stuff coming down the
- 29:00Speaker 3: pike that is not necessarily only on this episode.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yes, we're talking about our patreon. You guys can check
- 29:07Speaker 4: us out on Patreon. Yeah, we play these ridiculous characters,
- 29:10Speaker 4: but we also are all friends and real life people
- 29:13Speaker 4: and we like hanging out.
- 29:14Speaker 3: We talk about all the episodes. We have an after
- 29:17Speaker 3: show for every episode that in the past, like Recent
- 29:21Speaker 3: Memory two years, that you can find on there for
- 29:24Speaker 3: the low low price of five dollars a month. And
- 29:26Speaker 3: we have a bunch of other stuff too. Jeremy danced
- 29:29Speaker 3: for twelve weeks straight one time. You can find all
- 29:31Speaker 3: of that on the Patreon.
- 29:32Speaker 4: That was a blast. We put in way more work
- 29:35Speaker 4: than we need to, and that is reasonable for the Patreon.
- 29:38Speaker 4: We just love it. We love hanging out and talking
- 29:40Speaker 4: to y' all, so come on and check it out.
- 29:43Speaker 4: It genuinely does help us.
- 29:45Speaker 3: We can't we can't do this without you.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Uh oh, she's gone, jafay.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Join the patreon.
- 29:55Speaker 4: D So she's a storyteller. Why does she have a
- 30:03Speaker 4: full time job. I've got so many questions, but I'm
- 30:06Speaker 4: just not going to ask them. That was beautiful.
- 30:10Speaker 3: That was about my ex boyfriend Mark.
- 30:12Speaker 1: There's no way it was. He wasn't mentioned.
- 30:16Speaker 4: It was the coworker.
- 30:17Speaker 3: It was about him.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Can I say, you have this amazing ability that both
- 30:22Speaker 4: felt written, that both felt extremely written and like you
- 30:27Speaker 4: were reading it. I don't know how you did that.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 30:31Speaker 5: It's the weirdest acting I've ever heard.
- 30:33Speaker 4: It's both written and like you are reading it.
- 30:36Speaker 3: It is in sence, it's both like written, and I've
- 30:39Speaker 3: sort of fallen into a style where you've never seen
- 30:44Speaker 3: it on its feet, you've never felt it on its feet.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And in a way, it's almost like I don't even
- 30:50Speaker 3: really want to be there. It's like my coworkers were
- 30:54Speaker 3: telling me this is where I should be. Wow, But
- 30:57Speaker 3: that's where I found myself week after week, taking solace here.
- 31:01Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sure the stage has been solace and
- 31:04Speaker 3: a home.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Absolutely rise, it's been healing. It's been a healing place.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Some people get therapy. I get up and tell my stories,
- 31:11Speaker 4: tell my life.
- 31:12Speaker 3: You know, well, you bring up the thing, the excellent
- 31:16Speaker 3: point about a full time job, and I'm wondering how
- 31:23Speaker 3: each of you pay the bills when you're not telling stories,
- 31:27Speaker 3: or if stories do pay the bills. I'm curious about that.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Well, I'm a humorist. I read some stories. I read
- 31:35Speaker 1: a lot online.
- 31:36Speaker 4: I love your short stories, and I like your weird drawings.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I make a lot of weird drawings.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Figures with really big.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Feet, strong, with a shaky hand, with a very shaky hand.
- 31:50Speaker 5: It's like you're on a bumpy train.
- 31:51Speaker 4: It is just so you. I mean talking about style.
- 31:54Speaker 4: I feel like each of us come in this world,
- 31:59Speaker 4: not necessary knowing will we end up, but discovering your
- 32:04Speaker 4: style along the way is a path forward.
- 32:07Speaker 1: It is, it is. I have a zine. It's really fun.
- 32:13Speaker 3: But working up the courage to make a zine.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It's really courageous for me to have done it. It's
- 32:19Speaker 1: brave and it's scary, and I was nerve wracked. But
- 32:22Speaker 1: when I finally did it, I was so proud and
- 32:25Speaker 1: I get to talk about so many wonderful things. I
- 32:28Speaker 1: just I just made this story that I published about
- 32:33Speaker 1: meeting a man on grinder with a piss kinke and
- 32:37Speaker 1: it was so fun, hilarious. It was, you know, drinking
- 32:42Speaker 1: different drinks throughout the week to see if it made
- 32:45Speaker 1: my piss different flavors.
- 32:48Speaker 4: I loved that.
- 32:49Speaker 5: And you guys call me the funny one.
- 32:52Speaker 4: He is so funny, but you are really funny.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I want to challenge you that me pissing on another
- 32:57Speaker 1: man is not funny. It's just sexuality. I would challenge you.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I know you're young, but piss is not funny per se.
- 33:07Speaker 4: For me, it was so funny.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I want to challenge you that it's sexuality, whether it
- 33:15Speaker 1: be homosexuality or heterosexuality, is not funny.
- 33:20Speaker 5: I'm talking about the person you're with. I think I'm
- 33:22Speaker 5: talking about you drinking something like me.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Me discovering that watermelon power aide makes my piss taste
- 33:27Speaker 1: different than milk.
- 33:30Speaker 4: That's funny.
- 33:31Speaker 1: It's not funny. It's a discovery. It's a challenge.
- 33:33Speaker 5: And I don't even think that's sexual. I think it's just.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Like biological to needcover funny.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I need all of you to look at your biases
- 33:42Speaker 1: and realize how hurtful you're being. Right now.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Thank you for giving me this challenge, because I have
- 33:48Speaker 3: to admit I giggled your lying about the piss coffee frappuccino.
- 33:55Speaker 3: It struck me as humorous, But now I.
- 33:58Speaker 1: See something about you is evil.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Can I say something and I'm just thinking it.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I say something.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Do you feel like you don't have a You're not
- 34:12Speaker 5: a good storyteller, but you're really good at doing the
- 34:14Speaker 5: melody of a story.
- 34:16Speaker 4: No, I'm obsessed with her story.
- 34:21Speaker 3: It's interesting.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Feel so.
- 34:27Speaker 4: Want to learn more.
- 34:28Speaker 3: There's so many people who I've learned from who I'm
- 34:33Speaker 3: in any In many ways, I'm just sort of sort
- 34:37Speaker 3: of taking the lessons they've given me. You know, the
- 34:40Speaker 3: people who run that tell me more. Mike, those legends, Sarah, Adrian, Mikey.
- 34:46Speaker 4: They are legends.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Legends and pillars in the community. And so if anything,
- 34:53Speaker 3: I'm I'm sorry if I appear nefarious in any way.
- 34:58Speaker 3: I only aim to tell a story.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Oh it's okay, Okay, something is.
- 35:05Speaker 4: But that was weird just right now.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I don't know what I said. I only aim to
- 35:10Speaker 3: tell a story.
- 35:13Speaker 5: See, I think I don't think she's actually telling a story.
- 35:16Speaker 5: I think she's doing something else.
- 35:17Speaker 4: I think she's perfect. I'm enamored. I'm obsessed, and I
- 35:22Speaker 4: want to discover.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Can you hold my water for a second. Yeah, I'm
- 35:28Speaker 5: just GOODA tie my shoe. What were you saying?
- 35:32Speaker 4: I was saying, I'm enamored.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Dang, I thought i'd get him to stop.
- 35:35Speaker 4: I'm obsessed and I need to discover what's at the
- 35:40Speaker 4: bottom shoe of that fountain.
- 35:43Speaker 3: There it is.
- 35:45Speaker 4: If you give me a prop, I use it into
- 35:47Speaker 4: my story.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Big whoops on me?
- 35:50Speaker 4: What's your style? I mean we barely heard you tell
- 35:52Speaker 4: a story. Okay, we can move on.
- 36:04Speaker 3: He might tell the trolley story. I've seen him do
- 36:09Speaker 3: it once.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Oh, here comes trolley, Mama, the trolleys rolling down.
- 36:23Speaker 5: Get up, Get up, Junior, the trolley's here, gan up, Yes, stupid, heck,
- 36:41Speaker 5: what do you mean? I was watching the TV. The
- 36:47Speaker 5: voices everything I heard sounded like mush. Do people talk
- 36:53Speaker 5: like this anymore?
- 36:54Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 36:56Speaker 5: I'm asleep. Oh he was watched TV every night. Mm
- 37:00Speaker 5: hmm these voices. Part of me goes, these voices in
- 37:05Speaker 5: my head? Get up, rest? What does it sound like?
- 37:16Speaker 5: I want rest? I want space? Can I'm with a trally?
- 37:26Speaker 5: Time for the trappy little boy?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Oh?
- 37:33Speaker 5: I want space from my thoughts. I want to stop.
- 37:38Speaker 5: I want to stop the car and I want to
- 37:44Speaker 5: I'll be down in a second. Mom, it's time for school.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I just think, what's amazing one that it's just a
- 37:49Speaker 1: story about watching TV.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I'm telling you you are like the Larry David of storytelling.
- 37:56Speaker 4: That was hilarious, so funny, so funny, and it was
- 38:00Speaker 4: just I couldn't. These voices that you do are uncanny,
- 38:05Speaker 4: they are inspired, they are beautiful, and they are fun.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Which show is that Apple Dumpling Gang?
- 38:13Speaker 4: What would you say that show?
- 38:15Speaker 1: Apple Dumpling Gang.
- 38:17Speaker 5: No, it wasn't the Apple Dumping Game, Dumpling Appling, Apple
- 38:22Speaker 5: Dumpling Apple?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Oh my god, am I showing my TV show? I'm
- 38:27Speaker 1: so old.
- 38:29Speaker 4: You're not that old.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I'm sixty two.
- 38:33Speaker 5: That's not that old.
- 38:35Speaker 4: How old are you?
- 38:37Speaker 5: I'm seventeen.
- 38:39Speaker 4: Gosh, gosh.
- 38:40Speaker 3: You have so many more stories to tell.
- 38:42Speaker 4: So many little stories to uncover.
- 38:44Speaker 5: Do you actually think my stories are good? Or I'm
- 38:46Speaker 5: just young and I got into this.
- 38:48Speaker 4: It's a little bit of both for me.
- 38:52Speaker 3: That sucks.
- 38:53Speaker 4: No, they're not bad. They're interesting. You're here's something that
- 38:56Speaker 4: you're doing with these voices that are I've never seen.
- 39:00Speaker 5: It's TV.
- 39:00Speaker 3: It's something raw, and I think what fills in the
- 39:05Speaker 3: gaps of that raw energy is life. And the more
- 39:11Speaker 3: you live, the more you'll have to tell and you'll
- 39:15Speaker 3: get there.
- 39:16Speaker 5: But all I do as I live is watch content.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Do you feel like because you have this beautiful, really
- 39:24Speaker 1: wonderful vocabulary that I can imagine gets in the way
- 39:28Speaker 1: of relating to other people that you go to school with,
- 39:31Speaker 1: do you find yourself lonely or other people that like
- 39:35Speaker 1: you that can connect with you.
- 39:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's funny. You said that I don't have any friends.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Not anymore?
- 39:48Speaker 1: Yeah, not anymore? Do you not have any friends?
- 39:51Speaker 3: Not anymore? Do you not have them?
- 39:53Speaker 1: So?
- 39:55Speaker 5: I don't anymore have no friends? So I have friends now? Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 5: And it's you guys implying that you guys will be
- 40:01Speaker 5: my friends.
- 40:02Speaker 4: That's path forward?
- 40:05Speaker 5: Do you want to are you? Are you saying you
- 40:07Speaker 5: want to be my friend?
- 40:07Speaker 4: And that's a path forward?
- 40:10Speaker 3: I your dedication to path forward?
- 40:13Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you it.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Could you tell me more about your strategy. I know
- 40:20Speaker 3: that you hashtag every post you have with path Forward.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Now I'm not really in the social media game. Yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 3: but what does that do and what do you hope
- 40:28Speaker 3: to achieve?
- 40:28Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 40:30Speaker 4: I believe that branding is important, and I think having
- 40:36Speaker 4: a path forward is a great way for people to know.
- 40:41Speaker 5: But do you feel like if you hashtag it on
- 40:42Speaker 5: every story? No story has its own category. That's just
- 40:46Speaker 5: the category of every single story, so and therefore it
- 40:48Speaker 5: means nothing.
- 40:49Speaker 4: I think it actually means everything, because every single story
- 40:53Speaker 4: should have a path forward.
- 40:56Speaker 5: It's almost like the hashtag AD but for storytellers.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Or hashtag for you, m h, it's sort of if
- 41:02Speaker 3: it's or hashtag video, it's like using the hashtag video.
- 41:08Speaker 4: What's wrong with that? I do that every post too.
- 41:11Speaker 4: I do hashtag ad, hashtag video, hashtag path forward.
- 41:15Speaker 3: And they're not ads?
- 41:16Speaker 4: Are they? No? They're not ads. I just want to
- 41:18Speaker 4: grab on that ad algorithm that hot Wait, this.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Is an important question. Maybe I'm just young and selling out,
- 41:28Speaker 5: but are any of you guys doing branded stories?
- 41:31Speaker 4: I told the story about hot Cheetos.
- 41:36Speaker 3: We can all do our branded story.
- 41:40Speaker 5: We can guess the brand, okay, because I like to
- 41:43Speaker 5: hide my branded stories pretty deep.
- 41:45Speaker 3: It is ghost to say the name of the brand
- 41:47Speaker 3: in your branded story exactly.
- 41:50Speaker 5: If you could do a good job, you'll just sell
- 41:51Speaker 5: the product on its own, is what I believe.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Well, and and look, commercialism is obviously awful. I am
- 41:59Speaker 1: not a so porter of it, but if I want
- 42:02Speaker 1: to make some money, I have to do this. You know,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I would do want to hear your hot cheetos story.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Let's hear it.
- 42:11Speaker 4: M Sunday. I woke up and walked and immediately felt
- 42:21Speaker 4: the sun hitting here and reminded me of my mother,
- 42:30Speaker 4: the way I would sleep on her breasts. I found
- 42:42Speaker 4: comfort in a warm embrace of being held, being thrown
- 42:50Speaker 4: up and down. My father entering the room, asking have
- 42:59Speaker 4: you been to church yet? Me wondering why we go
- 43:07Speaker 4: to church?
- 43:08Speaker 5: WHOA no cheeto yet?
- 43:12Speaker 3: Cheeto count zero.
- 43:14Speaker 4: It's that type of fire, that type of passion, that
- 43:24Speaker 4: type of flavor that you can find in every single
- 43:32Speaker 4: hot cheeto.
- 43:34Speaker 5: Found the cheeto.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Hashtag ad hashtag video, hashtag path forward Now.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Did you catch the cheeto just now? Or was that
- 43:46Speaker 3: your aunt?
- 43:48Speaker 5: And he's celebrating his own story a little bit more
- 43:49Speaker 5: about religion than I expected of.
- 43:51Speaker 1: A victory lap over here. He's enjoying that he got
- 43:53Speaker 1: to tell.
- 43:54Speaker 3: That incredible That was a great stranded story. Thank you
- 43:58Speaker 3: for sharing.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Thank you you guys. Go.
- 44:03Speaker 1: The first man I focked couldn't come unless I clasped
- 44:05Speaker 1: his balls.
- 44:10Speaker 4: A lot of brands wouldn't like this.
- 44:13Speaker 1: We were in a chateau, a chateau in New Orleans, Louisiana,
- 44:20Speaker 1: he said, come inside, and come inside me. He said,
- 44:24Speaker 1: don't leave until the morning. I don't want the landlord
- 44:27Speaker 1: to see you. She thinks I'm straight.
- 44:29Speaker 5: Maybe Airbnb.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I said, honey, you're more of a queen than Elizabeth.
- 44:38Speaker 1: There's no way that you're getting out of this. The
- 44:41Speaker 1: secret's out. Being an openly gay man in New Orleans
- 44:45Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily a walk in the bar. We had our problems,
- 44:49Speaker 1: but we had our fun too.
- 44:51Speaker 4: It could be secret the deodorant.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I was nervous that this man loved me so much,
- 44:58Speaker 1: the way sweat would drop down his forehead onto.
- 45:04Speaker 3: His shoes Nike.
- 45:06Speaker 5: It could be both. It could be both.
- 45:09Speaker 1: In the morning, the sun shined in like all tiny
- 45:12Speaker 1: pieces of dust, dancing, dancing in the moonlight, dancing in
- 45:16Speaker 1: the sunlight, the light where the sun and the moon
- 45:19Speaker 1: shook hands and said goodbye. Hmm. As I left, he said, wait,
- 45:26Speaker 1: before you got here, can you have rav and his
- 45:32Speaker 1: sex with me one more time?
- 45:33Speaker 5: I said, yes, okay, there's gonna ask to call a
- 45:37Speaker 5: new book.
- 45:38Speaker 1: As we swapped fluids, I began to realize I need
- 45:48Speaker 1: to stop by and grab myself a McRib. It was limited.
- 45:54Speaker 1: It's a limited time. He said, what are you thinking about?
- 45:57Speaker 1: I said meat. He said that's right, and I said,
- 46:00Speaker 1: not the kind you think.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Holy shit, it's a wow.
- 46:06Speaker 1: That was for McDonald's.
- 46:08Speaker 4: I'm sure they loved that. I'm sure they loved that.
- 46:11Speaker 2: They did they they they played it, and they played
- 46:14Speaker 2: it in Morocco.
- 46:15Speaker 1: In Tangiers.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Morocco would hate that story.
- 46:20Speaker 3: I don't think they could play that there. They could
- 46:24Speaker 3: play that, actually, that story there, I'm not sure.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I don't care they paid me.
- 46:33Speaker 3: I never was a fan of the song Hit Me
- 46:36Speaker 3: Baby one more Time.
- 46:40Speaker 4: It's the best thing in the world I am in.
- 46:43Speaker 4: I need more.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Something about that chorus, so, something about that auto tune.
- 46:55Speaker 3: It just rubbed my ears the wrong way. So when
- 46:59Speaker 3: I was pushed on stage, she.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Always doesn't.
- 47:07Speaker 3: So when I was pushed on stage at Club TG
- 47:13Speaker 3: for my thirty second birthday, I knew that blind karaoke
- 47:19Speaker 3: was never gonna be my thing?
- 47:22Speaker 4: What brought it?
- 47:22Speaker 5: Could it be?
- 47:24Speaker 3: But then I remembered who wasn't at my birthday party?
- 47:29Speaker 3: My friend Sarah. She just got a new job in Washington,
- 47:33Speaker 3: d C. Telling Congress to stop putting oil every damn where.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Her job to put oil every damn where I'm.
- 47:46Speaker 5: Gonna tell you this right now. If we go back
- 47:47Speaker 5: to Baby one more Time, I'm out of here.
- 47:50Speaker 4: I walk.
- 47:50Speaker 5: If it's a lyric from Baby one more Time, I
- 47:52Speaker 5: fucking want it's to come out of fucking nowhere.
- 47:55Speaker 4: It's gonna slam us in the ass.
- 47:57Speaker 3: So when I finally asked the DJ okay give it
- 48:01Speaker 3: to me, what's my blind KARAOKEI song? And he showed
- 48:05Speaker 3: me that Blue Early two thousand's cover of that Brittany album,
- 48:12Speaker 3: I thought, oh no, I have to get out of here.
- 48:19Speaker 3: So I ran to the bathroom and what did they
- 48:23Speaker 3: have sitting on the bar counter? Happened to the friend
- 48:31Speaker 3: of congree playtext tampons.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Wow, it was a play text, you know, the playtext
- 48:39Speaker 4: crowd I think would love.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Crowd, would love that. That was beautiful And there's a
- 48:45Speaker 3: little bit more about it that where I you know
- 48:48Speaker 3: I and the false In the full version, I do
- 48:50Speaker 3: sing all of hit Me.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Baby one No way.
- 48:53Speaker 3: That is electric, even though I don't like it, even
- 48:57Speaker 3: though it grinds my gears.
- 48:58Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 49:00Speaker 5: I'm sorry if I'm active listening too much and talking
- 49:03Speaker 5: throughout your story.
- 49:04Speaker 3: No, it's I love an engaged audience.
- 49:07Speaker 4: What about your brand? Train thing going on?
- 49:16Speaker 5: Titanic's moving, Oh, Titanic, Titanic's flying away, now.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Get on in. Eh a British boat.
- 49:28Speaker 3: The boat is flying What a weird movie.
- 49:32Speaker 5: I just want to go to sleep.
- 49:37Speaker 4: Brand could be anything.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Listen up, is ship going there?
- 49:43Speaker 4: Huh?
- 49:44Speaker 5: I didn't remember it being like this. I just need
- 49:47Speaker 5: to go to bed.
- 49:49Speaker 4: Listen up, everybody, who is this character?
- 49:56Speaker 5: We got walver as high as I can see, and
- 49:59Speaker 5: we're heading straight to the bottom of the ocean.
- 50:09Speaker 3: I think it's trucks.
- 50:10Speaker 4: I think that. I think the brand's gonna come out
- 50:12Speaker 4: of nowhere.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Hey, little Rocky, are you asleep now? I'm watching TV?
- 50:19Speaker 5: But I'll go to sleep soon. I promise.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Rocky.
- 50:24Speaker 5: Stop being dishonest. I just wanted dishon.
- 50:30Speaker 4: It's like it's.
- 50:33Speaker 5: The water came and it flew. Wow. I didn't know
- 50:38Speaker 5: the Titanic was flooded with disawney water. What a strong mineral.
- 50:44Speaker 4: So you equated to sawny to sinking the Titanic.
- 50:48Speaker 5: I don't know you.
- 50:49Speaker 1: You know, when a seventeen year old gets a brand deal,
- 50:51Speaker 1: it's kind of always how it goes. They shouldn't see
- 50:56Speaker 1: that money that, young guys, Can I ask you so
- 50:58Speaker 1: much money?
- 50:59Speaker 5: There's so much money in it? Don't you guys want
- 51:01Speaker 5: to tell everybody who know write branded stories.
- 51:04Speaker 4: So much money?
- 51:05Speaker 3: It's a lot of money in it.
- 51:06Speaker 4: Can I can? I I ask you a question. I
- 51:11Speaker 4: would like to know when you guys know you are
- 51:16Speaker 4: living in a story you're going to tell in the future,
- 51:21Speaker 4: When you are experiencing that wave of knowledge, knowing that
- 51:28Speaker 4: a story is what is happening right now, a future
- 51:34Speaker 4: moth story.
- 51:35Speaker 5: Hmm, When will you guys know that what you're doing
- 51:42Speaker 5: is a future story?
- 51:44Speaker 4: Why do I piss you off? Someone there?
- 51:45Speaker 5: He said it as I was trying to sleep with
- 51:48Speaker 5: these two old, three old people. Bored as ever, I
- 51:52Speaker 5: sat there listening to him, asked me if this was
- 51:56Speaker 5: a story that I would one day tell? And yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 5: big guy, it is, that.
- 52:03Speaker 4: Was your answer.
- 52:04Speaker 5: That's a little preview of story I'm writing of you, sir.
- 52:08Speaker 1: The little man with the hands and wondered how he'd masturbates.
- 52:12Speaker 1: I wondered, if he's ever experienced anal pleasure, I certainly
- 52:16Speaker 1: won't be the one to give it to him. My
- 52:18Speaker 1: penises as useless as a incumbent president on the last
- 52:24Speaker 1: year of an election. Y. I wondered, he talks so
- 52:31Speaker 1: much but says so little. I wonder if what his
- 52:35Speaker 1: mouth looks like surrounding abreast. I wonder what does feet
- 52:40Speaker 1: do when they dance. I wondered if anyone's attracted to him,
- 52:46Speaker 1: or if he'll ever have sex. I wonder if there's
- 52:49Speaker 1: any hope for him.
- 52:53Speaker 4: I just don't know what I did that was so
- 52:56Speaker 4: off putting.
- 52:57Speaker 5: Nothing, I think for two.
- 53:01Speaker 3: I never was good at high fiving. It was something
- 53:05Speaker 3: that didn't come naturally to me. After the baseball games
- 53:10Speaker 3: in Little League, I would hide in the dugouts so
- 53:13Speaker 3: I didn't have to go in the high five train.
- 53:16Speaker 3: But then I met a man who wasn't only high fiving,
- 53:22Speaker 3: but telling stories with all five fingers. And I want
- 53:28Speaker 3: to learn from him, and I want to invite him
- 53:35Speaker 3: to the tell me more. After hours, Mike, after.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Hour, I would I would not do this. I do
- 53:46Speaker 1: want to be clear.
- 53:47Speaker 4: I do want to be clear interest.
- 53:49Speaker 1: I do want to be clear.
- 53:50Speaker 2: There's an old gay man and a young seventeen year
- 53:53Speaker 2: old boy, and you're the only one that might be
- 53:55Speaker 2: praying for him. So I want to be clear that
- 53:59Speaker 2: we're safe but you're.
- 54:04Speaker 5: A moving forget target.
- 54:05Speaker 4: What makes it after hours?
- 54:07Speaker 3: They don't do it alcohol at the after hours one.
- 54:11Speaker 4: You know, I have always loved a little bit of whisky,
- 54:22Speaker 4: a little bit of ice. So this for me seems
- 54:31Speaker 4: like a path forward. I've got him, I've got him.
- 54:40Speaker 5: Oh my god, the lady she's becoming dust.
- 54:43Speaker 4: Please do this for me. I've never hooked up with anybody. Please,
- 54:47Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 54:50Speaker 3: I'm obtained another storyteller ru the Moth universe.
- 54:55Speaker 5: It's Ira Glass.
- 54:58Speaker 3: Oh my god, Iral, I'm I'm a Glass.
- 55:07Speaker 4: That's the best. I Reck Glass.
- 55:09Speaker 3: I can't really remember. I'm Ira Glass. And this has
