Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio, Jared and Jay, thanks for joining me having
- 0:07Speaker 1: us say we are talking to Jared and Jade Lagore
- 0:11Speaker 1: of the band Jared one of my favorite bands. If
- 0:14Speaker 1: you like female rock and you want a Christian vibe,
- 0:18Speaker 1: this is your band, known for such hits as Dan
- 0:21Speaker 1: Strong and Warcry.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Have any song called poetic? I really enjoyed that one.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Jared and Jade, your story as sisters who make music
- 0:29Speaker 1: together is pretty unique. When did you first sense that
- 0:32Speaker 1: God was calling you to form this band?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 0:36Speaker 4: So it actually started without Jade at first, and I
- 0:41Speaker 4: had been called into Christian music, particularly when I was
- 0:46Speaker 4: I think eighteen nineteen years old in twenty twenty two,
- 0:50Speaker 4: and at the time, my team that I was working
- 0:54Speaker 4: with was like, you need a band.
- 0:56Speaker 5: What if it was all girls?
- 0:57Speaker 6: And I was like, that would be amazing if you
- 1:00Speaker 6: find them, because it's really hard to find girls that
- 1:03Speaker 6: really love the Lord and are really good at their
- 1:06Speaker 6: instruments and want to travel all the time.
- 1:09Speaker 4: And so they ended up finding two other girls and
- 1:12Speaker 4: I had a rehearsal with them.
- 1:13Speaker 3: It went so amazing, but I was like.
- 1:15Speaker 4: We need one more person, and that's when I asked
- 1:18Speaker 4: Jade to be in the bank.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Awesome and Jade, what was your response? Maybe no, yes?
- 1:24Speaker 3: Omaginally I said no, and that was because.
- 1:28Speaker 7: I was on my own special path that I thought
- 1:32Speaker 7: was my own to become a solo classical violinist. And
- 1:36Speaker 7: so I practiced like four hours every single day. I
- 1:40Speaker 7: committed at the age of twelve.
- 1:42Speaker 5: I was like, we're doing this. And so when she
- 1:44Speaker 5: first asked me, I was like, I don't got time
- 1:46Speaker 5: for that.
- 1:46Speaker 3: I'm practicing my violin.
- 1:49Speaker 5: I gotta continue my career.
- 1:51Speaker 7: But funny how the Lord has different plans usually than
- 1:54Speaker 7: the ones that you make for your own, especially that
- 1:56Speaker 7: are better for you.
- 1:57Speaker 3: And so then I actually took it to the Lord.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I really prayed about it, went to the Word and
- 2:02Speaker 7: found the truth about the situation.
- 2:04Speaker 5: And I really just felt him spoke to me or
- 2:06Speaker 5: speak to me.
- 2:07Speaker 7: That I should be a part of the band and
- 2:10Speaker 7: I could do it for the next six.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Months and just see what the Lord has in store.
- 2:14Speaker 7: And ever since then, I've just been a part of
- 2:16Speaker 7: the band and we've been traveling and we have seen
- 2:19Speaker 7: so much fruit and it's been amazing.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So I'd assume that you guys just grew up doing
- 2:24Speaker 1: this together, did you grow up.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Singing and playing the instruments and all that stuff together.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I mean, tell me about that.
- 2:31Speaker 7: Yeah, we did grow up play it together, especially on
- 2:34Speaker 7: the streets. That's where we go, and we would set
- 2:38Speaker 7: out our little cases so we can make some money
- 2:40Speaker 7: as little kids. But that was the history of our playing,
- 2:44Speaker 7: was just on the streets together and sometimes at church.
- 2:47Speaker 7: But we never really thought that our paths would be together,
- 2:51Speaker 7: like for the long term. And we were very much
- 2:54Speaker 7: like separate and like little divas back then. And I
- 2:57Speaker 7: was like, I'm going to be a classical violinist, gonna
- 3:00Speaker 7: be a little pop star.
- 3:01Speaker 5: That's not for me.
- 3:02Speaker 7: And but the Lord again, just had different plans and
- 3:05Speaker 7: we're thankful for it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Did you So you guys grew up liking different styles
- 3:09Speaker 2: of music? Yes or no?
- 3:11Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 3:12Speaker 4: I mean we wanted to pursue different styles of music.
- 3:15Speaker 4: We both kind of liked the same music, listen to
- 3:18Speaker 4: the same stuff. But she was very focused on her
- 3:22Speaker 4: violin and I was very focused on songwriting. I moved
- 3:25Speaker 4: to Nashville when I was seventeen to pursue a pop
- 3:27Speaker 4: secular career. I thought that's what the Lord had for me,
- 3:30Speaker 4: but I never asked him the details, and so.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's when he called me.
- 3:36Speaker 4: After doing that for a little bit, he called me
- 3:38Speaker 4: specifically into Christian music, and then he did the same
- 3:40Speaker 4: for Jake.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Describe your sound.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Was it naturally Was the band jaren naturally going to
- 3:46Speaker 1: be have a rock, high energy vibe.
- 3:49Speaker 7: We started off, we did like an initial showcase, and
- 3:53Speaker 7: because I played the violin and that's like my main instrument,
- 3:56Speaker 7: we very much wanted to incorporate that into the band
- 3:59Speaker 7: and so so we both started on acoustic instruments.
- 4:02Speaker 5: And so when we.
- 4:03Speaker 7: Did this showcase, I was on my acoustic violin, Journals
- 4:06Speaker 7: on acoustic guitar, and then we were told that we
- 4:08Speaker 7: looked a little too country, especially for Nashville, because you
- 4:13Speaker 7: see the violin and you think fiddle, and so we're like,
- 4:16Speaker 7: we can easily switch this to electric, and so we
- 4:19Speaker 7: did so, and honestly, I added a lot more fun,
- 4:22Speaker 7: in my opinion, to it, because I've had a lot
- 4:24Speaker 7: of fun getting to play the electric violin and just
- 4:27Speaker 7: the different elements that come with that, And I feel
- 4:29Speaker 7: like you can better showcase the violin and like a
- 4:32Speaker 7: rock sense when it's electric.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So I've had a lot of fun.
- 4:36Speaker 2: What about you, Jared, you have any thoughts on that.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Yeah, So in the very beginning, I always loved rock music.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Like I grew I grew up playing in like rock bands.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Like I was in a high school rock band when
- 4:47Speaker 4: I was eight years old, which doesn't make sense, but
- 4:50Speaker 4: it was more like a school a rock thing, and
- 4:52Speaker 4: I would just like watch and like gow at these
- 4:55Speaker 4: high schools high schoolers as they like shredded on the
- 4:58Speaker 4: guitar and the drums, and so I grew up definitely
- 5:01Speaker 4: like just immersed in the rock culture.
- 5:04Speaker 3: But I also loved pop music.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And so it's definitely just like this combination that came
- 5:10Speaker 4: together kind of naturally. At the at the beginning, it
- 5:14Speaker 4: wasn't that natural, and we kind of had this broad sound,
- 5:17Speaker 4: like sometimes we would sound more pop and chill, sometimes
- 5:20Speaker 4: we would sound really heavy.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And so as time has.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Gone on, we kind of just honed it and narrowed
- 5:25Speaker 4: it down to what it is today.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Well, let's talk about your influences, you guys.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I know on social media, you guys kind of I
- 5:32Speaker 1: just kind of pull people into your realm by talking
- 5:35Speaker 1: about bands of the past, because there are quite a
- 5:38Speaker 1: few female Christian bands from the past Zoe Girl is
- 5:41Speaker 1: showing my age here, Zoe Girl, Barlow Girl, Super.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Chick, Jeremy Camps. Jeremy Camp's wife Adrian had had a
- 5:47Speaker 2: led a band called Benjamin Gate that was great. She
- 5:49Speaker 2: had some really good songs back in the day.
- 5:51Speaker 1: You guys, don't take it out on Spotify type in
- 5:52Speaker 1: benjamingate you would enjoy it. So, yeah, what are what
- 5:55Speaker 1: are the influences that you guys kind of that kind
- 5:58Speaker 1: of I guess inspired some of your songs.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Me, okay, yeah, definitely, we love Barlow Girl and Super Chick.
- 6:06Speaker 4: It actually they were a bands that we didn't even
- 6:10Speaker 4: know about until we formed the band, and then everyone
- 6:14Speaker 4: was like, oh my gosh, you remind us of these bands.
- 6:16Speaker 3: You gotta listen.
- 6:17Speaker 4: And then once we saw them and I had I've
- 6:19Speaker 4: like studied Barlow Girl and their performances and their songwriting
- 6:23Speaker 4: and I'm like, wow, like this is so amazing that
- 6:26Speaker 4: they did that, and it definitely inspired me a ton.
- 6:29Speaker 4: But also, like we love for King and Country because
- 6:32Speaker 4: their brother duo, we're a sister duo and the younger
- 6:36Speaker 4: one's taller, so we definitely relate to that and definitely
- 6:40Speaker 4: a little bit more on the rock side of what
- 6:43Speaker 4: they do, but definitely are inspired by all their musicality
- 6:46Speaker 4: and their show, like it's just so awesome. And then
- 6:49Speaker 4: when it comes to like the secular realm, we kind
- 6:52Speaker 4: of like pull some influence from like Olivia Rodrigo and
- 6:58Speaker 4: Billie Eilish and Phineas even though we do not love
- 7:01Speaker 4: to listen to them and their messages, but we do
- 7:04Speaker 4: think that God has given them gifts that they're just
- 7:07Speaker 4: using in a way that maybe doesn't glorify God as much.
- 7:11Speaker 4: And He has given us gifts that we know that
- 7:14Speaker 4: we are supposed to use and the glorify the Lord.
- 7:16Speaker 4: And so we definitely draw influences from the world, but
- 7:19Speaker 4: try to use it for the glory of Jesus.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Talk about the songs you guys write, how do you
- 7:24Speaker 1: balance honesty and hope in your songs? Because it seems
- 7:27Speaker 1: like your songs do you have both of those? Honesty
- 7:30Speaker 1: and hope?
- 7:31Speaker 4: Yeah, both are very important in my opinion, and I
- 7:37Speaker 4: feel very strongly that, especially in Christian music and worship music,
- 7:41Speaker 4: that it should bring hope because Jesus is our living hope.
- 7:46Speaker 4: And although we go through just trials and tribulations, like
- 7:51Speaker 4: the Bible says, it says it's for our benefit and
- 7:55Speaker 4: that it will only bring us closer to Christ if
- 7:58Speaker 4: we let it.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And so even though there's.
- 8:00Speaker 4: These difficult times and we're very honest and vulnerable about that,
- 8:04Speaker 4: because that's what everybody goes through, and that's what we want,
- 8:08Speaker 4: how we want to relate to people, we also want
- 8:10Speaker 4: to point them to Jesus and that He is the
- 8:14Speaker 4: healing and He is the restoration, and no matter what
- 8:17Speaker 4: life looks like right now, we have the hope of
- 8:20Speaker 4: number one heaven.
- 8:21Speaker 3: But also here in the land of the living, we
- 8:24Speaker 3: get to have the goodness of God.
- 8:26Speaker 4: And so that's something that's very important to us to
- 8:28Speaker 4: incorporate both the honesty and also.
- 8:32Speaker 3: The truth of hope.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Let's talk about your goals for your music in terms
- 8:35Speaker 1: of inspiring and bringing hope to young audiences. Jay, do
- 8:39Speaker 1: you have any thoughts on that, because it seems like
- 8:40Speaker 1: you guys have a sound that's very unique in this realm.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You know, I turned on Christian music and it doesn't
- 8:48Speaker 1: sound like this. I think it should sound like this.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I think I should at least have some of this.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But yeah, it seems like you guys are giving a
- 8:58Speaker 1: you guys have a sound that you audiences need and
- 9:01Speaker 1: you might hear on secular radio, you don't have what
- 9:03Speaker 1: you're own here on Christian radio.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So maybe Jade, give me some thoughts.
- 9:06Speaker 1: On what your what are your what are your hopes
- 9:07Speaker 1: for for your music in terms of getting help to
- 9:09Speaker 1: younger people such as yourselves.
- 9:21Speaker 7: Yeah, we really were very intentional about that in making
- 9:25Speaker 7: our music, and we didn't want to conform to like
- 9:27Speaker 7: what's on the Christian radio only today, because we know
- 9:30Speaker 7: a lot of our friends don't listen.
- 9:32Speaker 5: To it because we're a younger audience.
- 9:35Speaker 7: We're on Spotify usually, we're not listening as much to
- 9:38Speaker 7: the radio sometimes depending on who you are, And so
- 9:41Speaker 7: we really wanted to just be able to create music
- 9:44Speaker 7: that inspired again that hope, but that kids are our age.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Would really enjoy listening to.
- 9:50Speaker 7: So that was the goal, and just providing them with
- 9:52Speaker 7: truth because I feel like right now, in this season
- 9:55Speaker 7: that we're in with social media and just everything running
- 9:59Speaker 7: rampant right now, it seems like especially our generation is
- 10:02Speaker 7: clinging to whatever they can to just find some sort
- 10:05Speaker 7: of truth of their own. And now there's like the
- 10:08Speaker 7: idea of subjective truth, and so we're just trying to really,
- 10:12Speaker 7: like our song, just stand strong and stand firm in
- 10:15Speaker 7: the truth of Jesus and preach that to our generation.
- 10:19Speaker 5: So that we can hopefully be a begon.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Of light and just be able to serve as like
- 10:24Speaker 7: the foundation of just Jesus and Christ and what he
- 10:27Speaker 7: would have stood for when he was if he was here,
- 10:29Speaker 7: like right.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Now, let's talk about briefly start the sit and sober
- 10:34Speaker 1: let us song. Briefly about the song poetic. I really
- 10:37Speaker 1: enjoy that song, and this lyric really struck me. This
- 10:39Speaker 1: is part of the song. It says, stuck on my phone,
- 10:42Speaker 1: trying not to fill alone. It's a habit I hold
- 10:45Speaker 1: and I'm still struggling to break it. I feel seen
- 10:47Speaker 1: when I read that. By the way, tell me about
- 10:49Speaker 1: that song and maybe you're the message in that song.
- 10:54Speaker 7: This song for me was the first one that I
- 10:56Speaker 7: actually ever had written in like a professional writing so
- 11:01Speaker 7: and so this is very exciting for me that now
- 11:03Speaker 7: it's like our newest single, and so it's super amazing.
- 11:07Speaker 5: But we wrote it with Mitch Wog and Austin Davis.
- 11:10Speaker 5: They're both amazing people.
- 11:12Speaker 7: And this song again has that like honest capacity to it,
- 11:17Speaker 7: especially in the verses, because it's true, like Jaron and
- 11:20Speaker 7: I were gen Z, and so like, along with anybody
- 11:23Speaker 7: else who owns the phone, you're gonna catch yourself just.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Doom scrolling on anything.
- 11:28Speaker 7: And so I feel like recognizing that, but then being like,
- 11:32Speaker 7: that's not what life's about. But like we understand that
- 11:35Speaker 7: this happens, and so just the idea of life getting hectic.
- 11:39Speaker 7: But God luckily has a plan, and he's poetic in
- 11:43Speaker 7: the way that he can use us. And so as
- 11:45Speaker 7: long as we are continuing to just give our lives
- 11:49Speaker 7: over to him and to focus on him and surrender
- 11:51Speaker 7: that to him, then he can turn again all of
- 11:54Speaker 7: our messes into miracles.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Just says for.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Lyrics state when weren't you more? When's you more?
- 12:00Speaker 1: All questions for you, guys, It seems like we are
- 12:02Speaker 1: in the midst of a spiritual movement among your generation.
- 12:07Speaker 1: These Unite US events on these college campuses are building
- 12:11Speaker 1: arenas that normally are filled with basketball bands. There are
- 12:15Speaker 1: surveys showing that Bible reading is among gen Z. There's
- 12:19Speaker 1: other elements that support that theory as well, maybe even
- 12:23Speaker 1: aval revival going on.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Among gen Z.
- 12:26Speaker 2: What do you guys think of that. I mean, do
- 12:28Speaker 2: you think that's actually happening? And if so, what is
- 12:31Speaker 2: driving it? In other words, why did what's different now
- 12:34Speaker 2: than what's going on twenty years ago? Of course you
- 12:37Speaker 2: guys were barely alive back then. But what's driving this
- 12:41Speaker 2: this spiritual movement among gen Z right now?
- 12:43Speaker 7: Jared?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Can you take that one?
- 12:46Speaker 4: Is such a great question, And we're so excited about
- 12:50Speaker 4: what's happening, and you like, unite us, like we actually
- 12:54Speaker 4: know of.
- 12:55Speaker 3: The people that lead that and have been leading it, and.
- 12:57Speaker 4: So it's just so cool to just see hundreds of
- 13:01Speaker 4: thousands of college students like giving their lives to the Lord,
- 13:04Speaker 4: and we're just so glad to be a small, just
- 13:07Speaker 4: part of whatever God is doing on the earth right now.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I think, like Jade was saying, that gen Z is
- 13:13Speaker 4: so hungry for authenticity and for truth. And I think
- 13:18Speaker 4: even like with all the political things that have been happening,
- 13:22Speaker 4: and even like with the death of Charlie Kirk, which
- 13:25Speaker 4: was such a horrific thing that happened, I really think
- 13:28Speaker 4: it started just like opening the eyes of college students
- 13:32Speaker 4: because that's what he went to, and that's who he
- 13:36Speaker 4: preached to, and that's who he talked to, and I
- 13:39Speaker 4: think it just birthed like a new courageousness in our generation.
- 13:43Speaker 4: And also just this hunger for like truth and what
- 13:48Speaker 4: is truth? And who is God?
- 13:50Speaker 3: And who is Jesus? And why should I believe in him?
- 13:53Speaker 3: And should I believe in him?
- 13:55Speaker 4: And all these questions started arising, and I think as
- 13:58Speaker 4: people just started looking into the Bible and the you
- 14:02Speaker 4: version app just hit a billion downloads, which just so crazy,
- 14:06Speaker 4: and like, Praise the Lord.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I think people like, especially with technology, they just have
- 14:11Speaker 3: access to it so easily.
- 14:13Speaker 4: And I think with like these big leaders like coming
- 14:15Speaker 4: out talking about Christ more and also like it almost
- 14:19Speaker 4: feels like I don't I don't want to say like
- 14:22Speaker 4: the last days are going to happen like tomorrow, but
- 14:25Speaker 4: it also it just feels like it's coming to a
- 14:28Speaker 4: head with all these prophecies coming true from the Old Testament.
- 14:31Speaker 4: It just feels like something is shifting, and I truly
- 14:33Speaker 4: believe it's by the grace of God.
- 14:35Speaker 3: And also just like this generation.
- 14:36Speaker 4: It's just hungry.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Let's again wrapping this up. I wanted just one or
- 14:41Speaker 2: two more small questions.
- 14:42Speaker 1: For you, Jade and Jaren, What is the message you
- 14:45Speaker 1: want to bring to the next generation of Christians. What
- 14:48Speaker 1: is what is the message of the band?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Jaren Jake, Oh, Jade, go ahead.
- 14:55Speaker 7: I would say, well, our personal life motto is just
- 14:58Speaker 7: to love God, love others, and spread the Gospel. And
- 15:02Speaker 7: I believe that if you do those three any things
- 15:05Speaker 7: like and that becomes the pillars of your life, then
- 15:08Speaker 7: you can walk in that joy that the Lord has
- 15:11Speaker 7: for you. Because definitely so many people are down by, like.
- 15:16Speaker 5: They're hurting inside.
- 15:18Speaker 3: They need hope, and Jesus is that hope.
- 15:21Speaker 7: And we want to be able to continue to spread
- 15:23Speaker 7: that and then hopefully spark like again like a revival
- 15:27Speaker 7: type thing where like they have their own personal fire
- 15:30Speaker 7: for the Lord within them, where they can then do
- 15:33Speaker 7: exactly what we're doing, but just in their own skill
- 15:36Speaker 7: sets that the Lord has given them, because you can
- 15:39Speaker 7: spread the Gospel through whatever outlet and whatever talents the
- 15:42Speaker 7: God has given you. And so we hope to just
- 15:44Speaker 7: continue to inspire other people to just use the gifts
- 15:47Speaker 7: that God has given them to do the same thing
- 15:50Speaker 7: and just continue to preach.
- 15:52Speaker 5: Love and preach the Gospel.
- 15:53Speaker 2: And then Jared, how about you, Yeah, just to.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Go along with what Jade was saying, I think that
- 15:59Speaker 4: our hearts really burned for those who are lukewarm or
- 16:03Speaker 4: those who don't know the.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Lord at all.
- 16:06Speaker 4: And I feel like from the beginning he's made it
- 16:08Speaker 4: very clear that what we're doing is trying to reach
- 16:11Speaker 4: wandering hearts, whether they kind of know Jesus or whether
- 16:15Speaker 4: they don't know Jesus, or if they just need encouragement
- 16:18Speaker 4: in their daily walk with Christ. And so our main
- 16:22Speaker 4: goal on our mission is to see every single soul
- 16:25Speaker 4: just set on fire for the Lord with just passion,
- 16:29Speaker 4: just driven to tell people about Jesus and driven to
- 16:33Speaker 4: know Jesus and to love him.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And yeah, that pretty much sends up what we're trying
- 16:38Speaker 3: to do with our music.
- 16:39Speaker 1: We've been talking to Jade and Jaron Legore of the Banjerin.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The Banjerin dot Com is the website. By the way,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I am the DJ for my kids Christian school basketball team.
- 16:51Speaker 1: We played in music all the time and it helps
- 16:54Speaker 1: hype up the crowd. So if anybody's listening to this
