- 0:00Chapter 7 of Jeremiah, Dear God, please be with us as we read
- 0:05through this chapter and give us wisdom and insight into the
- 0:09words that you gave Jeremiah that we can apply them to our
- 0:13lives and can learn something from this.
- 0:15Please open our eyes and ears to hear we ask this in Jesus name,
- 0:19Amen. So we'll start out.
- 0:23This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord.
- 0:26Stand at the gate of the Lord's house and there proclaim this
- 0:31message. Hear the word of the Lord.
- 0:34All you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship
- 0:37the Lord, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel
- 0:41says. Reform your ways and your
- 0:45actions, and I will let you live in this place.
- 0:49So again, let's pause here for a minute because Jeremiah is
- 0:54saying what most of the other prophets all say.
- 0:58There is a talk about changing your ways.
- 1:01If we realize that we come into this world selfish and it
- 1:08requires us to change and in order to become like what God
- 1:15intended for us, he intended us to be holy.
- 1:18It says in Scripture be holy because I am holy, says the
- 1:21Lord. So God originally intended for
- 1:25us to be holy. We came into the world.
- 1:28We were not holy because of our ancestors.
- 1:31That's what it tells us through Scripture.
- 1:34It's what happened with Adam and Eve in the garden when sin
- 1:37entered the world. As soon as sin entered the
- 1:39world, that's when everything got became corrupted, including
- 1:45people. So it takes the recognition that
- 1:49we are, and I've said this before because at first I used
- 1:53to think, Oh my gosh, babies are so cute.
- 1:55How could they be sinful? I just can't even think of a
- 1:58baby being sinful. But then you get into the age
- 2:02where the child expresses itself and expresses him or herself
- 2:08and, and everything is about me, me, me, me, mine.
- 2:13It's all selfish. And after reading scripture,
- 2:17that's really evident that this the Bible is true that we do
- 2:21start out. I mean, basically, if any kind
- 2:25of selfishness in ourselves, where we care about ourselves
- 2:28more than someone else, that is really sinful.
- 2:33That is just a corruption where we put ourselves before other
- 2:38people and we all have a tendency towards that.
- 2:41We all want to do what we want to do and we don't probably want
- 2:47to admit that we are very selfish, but we are.
- 2:51In fact we are. We came out, we came out that
- 2:54way and we probably and we'll never, we won't change until
- 2:58Jesus returns and we receive our immortal perfected bodies that
- 3:04God originally intended for us. But until then, we're going to
- 3:07be battling this selfishness that we have.
- 3:11And so the way that we overcome this battle is through the Holy
- 3:16Spirit whom Jesus promised to those who agree or want to obey
- 3:22him and want to become holy like God has has asked of us.
- 3:27I'm not asked of us. That's what he he designed us to
- 3:30be. And some people will choose to
- 3:33make that change and other people won't want to make that
- 3:36change. God will help us.
- 3:37It's still will be hard for us, though.
- 3:40It doesn't say that. It'll just be easy.
- 3:41I wish it was. I wish we could just say, God,
- 3:43we want you to just run our lives and then not have to worry
- 3:46about it. And but he doesn't.
- 3:50He didn't make us that way. He gave us free will.
- 3:52So every day we have choices to make, and we can either choose
- 3:56to do what God would want us to do to be obedient to Him, or we
- 4:00can choose to rebel against him with every decision.
- 4:04That's really what it comes down to.
- 4:06So Jeremiah is telling these people of Judah, reform your
- 4:10ways and your actions and I will let you live in this place.
- 4:14God always has promises. He's like he promises blessings
- 4:18for obedience. He truly does.
- 4:21Throughout Scripture. Then Jeremiah continues to say,
- 4:26do not trust in deceptive words and say this is the temple of
- 4:30the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.
- 4:34If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with
- 4:38each other justly, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the
- 4:43fatherless, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this
- 4:50place, that's something that we probably should pay attention
- 4:52to. Innocent blood.
- 4:55There is bloodshed. Sometimes God actually even
- 4:57calls for bloodshed to eliminate evil.
- 5:01And God will, during the wrath also get rid of evil.
- 5:05So there will be bloodshed. And so God is not necessarily
- 5:11opposed to that. He doesn't like it, but He has,
- 5:16you know, in order to he, he always has throughout the
- 5:22Scripture wanted and eradicated evil to some degree, not
- 5:29completely, but in the end when Jesus returns, that's when he
- 5:34will eradicate the evil. Actually, I guess when the final
- 5:38judgment day comes, which is after the 1000 years reign of
- 5:42Christ, because people will still have that free will during
- 5:45that Millennium period, but after that they will, they will
- 5:50be eternally separated where there will not be any evil
- 5:54present. So anyway, going back to
- 5:58Scripture, it's you know, so about if you do not shed
- 6:02innocent blood in this place. And it's also important for us
- 6:05to realize what was actually happening at that time.
- 6:08People were sacrificing their children at that time.
- 6:12So that is definitely innocent blood like the, you know, we're
- 6:16all sinners. So even if a child that you
- 6:18know, if you say well child's a Sinner, it still doesn't justify
- 6:23innocent blood. That's child sacrifice, which
- 6:27today it's this equal to abortion.
- 6:31Again, that's a selfish decision made by somebody.
- 6:34If God determines that person as evil and decides that they will
- 6:43not live, he can make them not come to birth.
- 6:50So God is ultimately in in charge of all this.
- 6:54We as people should not be doing what God can do.
- 6:59As you know, when it comes to abortions, it's basically child
- 7:04sacrifice. It is sacrificing a child so
- 7:07that a person you know can not be burdened by the child.
- 7:13Essentially. That's really what it seems like
- 7:15it comes down to. If you know God can handle it,
- 7:19God can take care of this. So innocent blood, that's
- 7:22children. And you know, there's probably
- 7:25other people who have done nothing wrong but then get
- 7:27killed by that. That's also innocent blood.
- 7:30And if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, then I
- 7:35will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your
- 7:38ancestors forever and ever. So they also had a problem with
- 7:42following other gods, which is really interesting because I, I
- 7:48don't see it in some ways, but then I do see it in other ways,
- 7:52like today modern world. I mean, there's this worship of
- 7:56nature, which is also kind of a, you know, having another God.
- 8:00Then there's these other gods that any any other thing that's
- 8:04called God that is not the true God, the the God of Abraham,
- 8:11Isaac, Isaac and Jacob. Anyone who follows any other God
- 8:16other than that, that's not the true God.
- 8:19So there are people that do worship other gods today.
- 8:24So he says. But look, you are trusting in
- 8:27deceptive words that are worthless.
- 8:30So I don't know who's sharing these deceptive words.
- 8:33But somehow maybe it's, you know, the leadership.
- 8:35I don't, I don't know. It doesn't really say what these
- 8:38deceptive words are. Maybe it was just encouraging
- 8:41them to worship these other entity entities, to do child
- 8:46sacrifices and other things. So Jeremiah contends, will you
- 8:50steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn
- 8:55incense to Baal or Baal and follow other gods you have not
- 9:01known, and then come and stand before me in this house which
- 9:04bears my name, and say we are safe, safe to do all these
- 9:09detestable things. Has the house which bears my
- 9:12name become a den of robbers to you?
- 9:15But I've been watching, declares the Lord.
- 9:18So there's a lot in that one. Grouping verses 9 through 11.
- 9:24So he's essentially saying, are you a hypocrite?
- 9:29You're going out, you're doing all these things, but then
- 9:32you're coming into my home, the temple, and saying we are safe
- 9:37here. And and that's something else,
- 9:40like I think even this can apply to a lot of Christians today who
- 9:45are hypocrites who don't obey God, but they'll go to church.
- 9:50And God is watching all of this. God sees this.
- 9:54We are no different than the people in Judah.
- 10:00And if, and God said it says he shows no favoritism.
- 10:05So if he does this, and in fact, he talks about Shiloh too and
- 10:10what happened there. So he, he does the same thing he
- 10:16is, he hasn't changed. So I think that's really
- 10:19important for us to realize that like if he's warning the Jews
- 10:22about this, you can say, oh, this is just for the Jews.
- 10:25Well, this is also for us because God doesn't have
- 10:28favoritism. If they were doing it and they
- 10:30got punished and they were his chosen elect, but he did this to
- 10:34them, don't you think He will do this to us other, you know, the
- 10:40Gentiles who are grafted in to the vine as Jesus described it,
- 10:45the people who were not originally Jews, but by faith we
- 10:48have become a part of the nation.
- 10:51We are the ones who are grafted in.
- 10:53So if God was doing this to the original people He chose, don't
- 10:58you think He would also do that to those of us who come into the
- 11:03Kingdom as someone who's grafted in?
- 11:06We shouldn't think that we don't have to be concerned about this.
- 11:12And again, I think this is there's a lot of Christians who
- 11:16abuse grace that has been given to us by through Jesus on the
- 11:22cross. Grace.
- 11:24The better way to understand it is grace is power from God to
- 11:29overcome sin and in and that's what Jesus did on the cross.
- 11:34That was his grace that he had given to us, and it is a gift.
- 11:38Any power from God is a gift to us.
- 11:43It does not mean that we can continue to sin and think that
- 11:48we're safe, just like just this was a Jesus.
- 11:52But it reminded me of something Jesus said.
- 11:54Just like Jeremiah was hearing from the Lord saying we are
- 11:57safe, safe to do all these detestable things.
- 12:01That's what God, you know, he's looking at.
- 12:02If God says he doesn't like something and he doesn't want
- 12:06something to be done and we continue to do it, aren't we the
- 12:11same as the people of Judah that Jeremiah is talking to?
- 12:15I think we need to wake up and realize that the way we live
- 12:20does matter to God and and God is watching and this is this is
- 12:27a warning to all of us that we need to put this in perspective
- 12:31because there will be consequences of our actions.
- 12:35God throughout the Bible gives blessings and also says what the
- 12:39curses will be what the the the yeah, basically curses that the
- 12:44bad things that will happen to a person who chooses not to obey
- 12:49God. There is very clear, but he
- 12:53doesn't want hypocrites. I mean Jesus was very much
- 12:56against hypocrites too. And this was actually the
- 12:59scripture that Jesus quoted in he it was documented by several
- 13:07different gospels. Actually three different Gospels
- 13:09were so Jeremiah 7 says has this house which bears my name become
- 13:14a den of robbers to you? But I've been watching declares
- 13:17the Lord. So in Matthew chapter 21, this
- 13:21is Jesus saying it is written, he said to them, my house will
- 13:26be called a House of prayer, but you are making it a den of
- 13:32robbers. And then in Mark Chapter 11,
- 13:37verse 17 says the same thing. And as he taught them, he said,
- 13:42is it not written, My house will be called a House of prayer for
- 13:47all nations, but you have made it a den of robbers.
- 13:53And then Luke 19, verse 46 documents this.
- 13:57It is written, he said to them, My house will be a House of
- 14:00prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers.
- 14:04So think about this. Jeremiah had this declaration
- 14:09from the Lord in like 580 something BC and then Jesus is
- 14:14reflecting on this somewhere around 30, you know, I don't
- 14:20know, 27/28/20, 9:30 somewhere around there.
- 14:24And he had three years of so I'm not sure exactly what it what
- 14:29years it was because there's a question of when Jesus died on
- 14:33the cross. It was 30313233.
- 14:36There's, there's a lot of possibilities there because the
- 14:41calendar got messed up. But essentially, you know,
- 14:45within the three years of his ministry, he said this.
- 14:48So let's say it's somewhere around 30 AD Jesus is talking
- 14:51about this. So he's reflecting on something
- 14:54that Jeremiah wrote, you know, about 600 years before, and
- 15:01Jesus is quoting this to people. And so he's affirming basically
- 15:06what Jeremiah was saying. And just like he said to others,
- 15:10he said I did not come to change or abolish the law, I came to
- 15:14fulfill it. So if this was true back in the
- 15:17time of Jeremiah, it is still true today, based on Jesus
- 15:22saying it was still true at his time.
- 15:26So go now in the place of Shiloh where I first made a dwelling,
- 15:30This is we're going back to Jeremiah now.
- 15:32Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling
- 15:36for my name, and see what I did to it because of wickedness of
- 15:40my people. Israel, while you were doing all
- 15:43these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you again and again,
- 15:47but you did not listen. I called you, but you did not
- 15:51answer. Therefore, what I did to Shiloh,
- 15:55I will now do to the house that bears my name, the temple you
- 15:59trust in the place I gave you and your ancestors.
- 16:04I will thrust you from my presence just as I did your
- 16:08fellow Israelites. The people of Ephraim.
- 16:12So the people of Ephraim were the northern tribe of Israel.
- 16:15And Jeremiah's talking to the people of Judah, who are the
- 16:19southern 2 tribes, Judah and Benjamin.
- 16:21And the northern tribe had already been, I believe it was
- 16:27the Syrians who came in. And then Jeremiah was
- 16:31pronouncing judgement that was going to come from Babylon to
- 16:34them. So he was saying, you know, look
- 16:36at your, your, your northern tribes.
- 16:38This is what happened to them. Did I spare them?
- 16:41And they had this. They were the first, I think, to
- 16:44start worshipping other gods and putting up altars and things.
- 16:47And so that's what actually I think it's Ephraim, I think is
- 16:53not listed as one of the tribes of in the 144,000 and neither is
- 16:58the tribe of Dan. So and it's interesting because
- 17:02the Bible tells us that they were the ones who were
- 17:05worshipping false gods. So just an interesting
- 17:09reflection on that as you read the Bible to protect that
- 17:13because you'll see it OK going back to Scripture.
- 17:16So do not pray for these people nor offer any plea or petition
- 17:21for them. Do not pray with me, for I will
- 17:24not listen to you. Do you not see what they are
- 17:29doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
- 17:33The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the
- 17:38women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the queen of
- 17:44heaven. They pour out drink offerings to
- 17:49other gods. To arouse my anger.
- 17:52But I? But am I the one they are
- 17:55provoking, Declares the Lord? Are they not rather harming
- 17:59themselves to their own shame? So this is really interesting
- 18:03and insightful as well. The Queen of Heaven, it's listed
- 18:08a few times in Scripture in a capitalized sense, like as a
- 18:12name or a title. And so I wondered, you know,
- 18:17like, who is this and who are they worshipping?
- 18:20And what is this all about? But you know, they're doing
- 18:24these things and you know, they're probably going to the
- 18:27temple to worship and and then he says, but am I the one they
- 18:33are provoking, declares the Lord?
- 18:35Are they not rather harming themselves to their own shame?
- 18:39So why, you know, maybe out of their ignorance when they're
- 18:45worshipping these other gods, they don't realize the spiritual
- 18:48aspects of things. There's a lot of things in the
- 18:50Bible that we don't really fully understand.
- 18:53God doesn't give us all the spiritual laws.
- 18:56In fact, Jesus even says I'm, I think it was to Nicodemus, he
- 19:00said, but I'm trying to tell you about earthly things.
- 19:04How can I tell you about spiritual things?
- 19:05You don't even understand the earthly things I'm trying to
- 19:07tell you about. So there's information that God
- 19:11doesn't give us because we don't even understand the stuff he
- 19:15does give us. So he can't give us things that
- 19:20well, He does give us things that we don't always understand,
- 19:23but he tries to reveal things through scripture, which is
- 19:27important for us to read scripture because the more we
- 19:31read it, the more God reveals to us.
- 19:33But these there are things, there are truths that are found
- 19:37in Scripture that we don't get the first time, the first time
- 19:40we read through the Bible, we don't understand these.
- 19:42But as time goes on, we start picking up more and more and
- 19:45understanding more. And I believe that's the Holy
- 19:48Spirit at work in us when we are meditating on the word.
- 19:51In fact, I was today actually, it came up about how God in
- 20:00Deuteronomy, I think it's chapter 17, where it said that
- 20:03kings were supposed to reflect on God's law daily so that they
- 20:09would so all would go well with them.
- 20:13And, and that's something that, you know, we also, if it works
- 20:18for the kings, would it not work for us as well?
- 20:21If we are reading God's word and we are learning from it and we
- 20:25are putting it into action, would there not be blessings on
- 20:29us also? Or if we are disregarding it and
- 20:33being disobedient to God, then will we not also get the same
- 20:40curses that are found in the Bible?
- 20:42There were blessings and curses that were given in Deuteronomy
- 20:46chapter 28, But you'll also see in his in the history of the
- 20:51Bible, the the books of the kings and Chronicles and so
- 20:55forth, and Samuel and all those that those who followed God and
- 20:59were obedient to him, things went well.
- 21:02And then those who were not obedient to God, he got rid of
- 21:06them. And God appoints kings and he
- 21:08takes them away. In fact, the very first king of
- 21:11Israel was Saul, and he was not obedient to God.
- 21:17So God got rid of him and replaced him with David.
- 21:20It was over a period of a number of years, but essentially that's
- 21:24how David got on the throne because Saul wouldn't fully
- 21:28obey. He did part of it, but not all
- 21:30of it. And he determined what he was
- 21:33and wasn't going to do. But that's not what God is
- 21:35looking for. God is looking for somebody not
- 21:37to say, OK, I'll pick this, I'll obey this, but I'm not going to
- 21:41obey that. God wants us to be 100% obedient
- 21:44to him. That's what he desires for us.
- 21:46And then all things will go well for us.
- 21:48We don't, you know, we have sin, which means missing the mark.
- 21:52We don't do everything that God wants us to do.
- 21:56But over time, we become through the Holy Spirit, through, you
- 22:01know, submitting our will to God's will, we start to change
- 22:06and become more holy. It does say that in Scripture,
- 22:10the Holy Spirit helps us to do that.
- 22:13So over time, we start getting more like the image of Christ,
- 22:18but never get to perfection until Jesus returns when
- 22:24something supernatural will happen to us at that point.
- 22:28So anyway, getting back to Jeremiah and these people who
- 22:34were worshipping the Queen of Heaven.
- 22:36In this study Bible it actually addresses this.
- 22:38So who was the Queen of heaven? This is a reference to the Pagan
- 22:43goddess of sexual love and fertility.
- 22:48I think we still have a little bit of that worship going on in
- 22:51our world today. Check out any pop music videos
- 22:55and you'll see that there is still this worship of sexual
- 22:59love and you know probably fertility or but it's very much
- 23:06alive and well today. Unfortunately.
- 23:09Many ancient near eastern cultures had similar goddesses
- 23:14but with different names. I always find that interesting.
- 23:18If they are different entities or they actually are the same
- 23:22entity but they appear to people and people name them
- 23:26differently, I don't know it doesn't really matter.
- 23:29But whatever it is, they, these entities, I believe they are
- 23:33spiritual and they are against God and they are aligned with
- 23:40Satan because Satan seeks to kill and destroy.
- 23:45And that's what ultimately these entities do with people either
- 23:50to their children, they kill and destroy them or they they
- 23:53seductively lure them into the sensual sexual aspect of things,
- 23:59which ultimately leads to death. Like God, God created all that.
- 24:04It's to be used for good. It's to be within a marriage.
- 24:07And God intended it for it to be that way.
- 24:10But the enemy corrupts it and makes it like available to
- 24:14everyone in a non committed way and puts it out publicly.
- 24:20I mean, it just it's getting more and more and more prevalent
- 24:25throughout everywhere in media. And I believe there's a
- 24:31spiritual entity behind all of this.
- 24:34After reading the Bible, I never thought this before I read the
- 24:37Bible, but after I read the Bible and studied it since 2019.
- 24:41So it hasn't been that long. This is how my I've come to
- 24:47believe after reading all these things.
- 24:49So the Babylonians called her Ishtar, the Greeks, Aphrodite,
- 24:55part of the practice of worshipping this goddess
- 24:58included cult institution. It's really interesting.
- 25:02And I, I wonder too, like is Mystery Babylon ultimately
- 25:07behind this? I mean, they have some, I think
- 25:09Ishtar might have been some androgynous being or something
- 25:12like that too. It's, and then we get into all
- 25:15this trans stuff and this confusion about people, about
- 25:18whether they're male or female and they decide rather than
- 25:22biologically, I mean, all of this stuff is spiritual ritual.
- 25:26And those who don't think it is are just ignorant because they
- 25:31haven't read the Bible. Just like the Bible warns us, if
- 25:34you don't read it, you don't know what's in it.
- 25:36It reveals a lot of stuff about what's going on today.
- 25:39And that's why I do find it very interesting.
- 25:42And so it, it teaches us, it rebukes us, it corrects us, and
- 25:48it also gives us hope and promise of the future of what
- 25:51will come when we actually agree with God and want to be in his
- 25:56Kingdom. There is a, a wonderful promise
- 25:59and future ahead of that. But The thing is, we're so stuck
- 26:02in our ways, just like these people of Judah, that we, you
- 26:07know, we, we're, if we don't wake up, we're not going to be
- 26:11in God's Kingdom. So let's go back to what
- 26:14Jeremiah says. Therefore, this is what the
- 26:16sovereign Lord says. My anger and my wrath will be
- 26:20poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the
- 26:23field and on the crops of your land, and it will burn and not
- 26:28be quenched. This is what the Lord Almighty,
- 26:30the God of Israel says. Go ahead, add your burnt
- 26:33offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat
- 26:36yourselves. For when I brought your
- 26:38ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give
- 26:42them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, but I
- 26:45gave them this command. Obey me and I will be your God
- 26:51and you will be my people. See, I think a lot of people
- 26:53forget about this part. They go through the burnt
- 26:56offerings of sacrifices. I mean, there's many times in
- 26:59Scripture where God says your sacrifice are detestable to me.
- 27:03He doesn't want them. Those were the things that he he
- 27:07basically gave substitution so that people didn't die.
- 27:11There's some spiritual aspect about that.
- 27:13Without the shedding of blood, there's no forgiveness of sins.
- 27:17So the sacrifice had to be there so the people themselves didn't
- 27:21die or the whole population would be wiped out.
- 27:23But he's, he's saying, you know, I'm done with you.
- 27:26You don't even understand the sacrifices.
- 27:28Those are there as basically restitution, well, partial
- 27:32restitution for what you've done.
- 27:35But obey me and then you don't even need the sacrifices.
- 27:38So it's obedience that he's after.
- 27:40He's not after the sacrifices. And he says, and I will be your
- 27:44God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I
- 27:48command you and and so this is like to all I command you.
- 27:53So if we are in communication with God through prayer and if
- 27:59God tells us he wants us to do something, you know, that
- 28:02doesn't contradict Scripture. So and God would, you know,
- 28:08that's something that we have to be very careful about discerning
- 28:13if God is speaking to us or if if God is communicating with us,
- 28:19if it's our own thoughts or if it's the enemy and we can use
- 28:23Scripture to understand it. And sometimes we probably don't
- 28:26always know. Sometimes we can probably easily
- 28:29see if it's the enemy. And then but then the question
- 28:34is, is it our own desire or is it God talking to us?
- 28:38So that's that's where it gets a little bit more complicated to
- 28:41try to understand, but usually it's just be still.
- 28:45And then to maybe have God show you in different ways when he
- 28:53tells you he wants you to do something is, you know, wait for
- 28:56other affirmations of that perhaps.
- 29:00But he says walk in obedience to all.
- 29:02I command you that it may go well with you.
- 29:06So again, here's the blessing. When you're obedient to God, he
- 29:10wants to bless you. He wants to bless us, but they
- 29:14did not listen or pay attention. Instead, they followed the
- 29:17stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts.
- 29:22So that's showing us how sinful everyone is that Nope, we're not
- 29:26going to listen to God. We're just going to do what we
- 29:28want to do. That's exactly the way the world
- 29:30is today. They went backward and not
- 29:34forward. That's kind of another way of
- 29:36saying backsliding, right? From the time your ancestors
- 29:40left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again, I sent you
- 29:44my servants, the prophets, but they did not listen to me or pay
- 29:49attention. They were stiff necked and did
- 29:52more evil than their ancestors. So each generation seems to get,
- 29:59you know, more evil and the things if you look at the moral
- 30:04decay of our world, we've always had evil in it, but you look at
- 30:09what's acceptable socially and and it really there is a moral
- 30:14decay that we are seeing. When you think about what God
- 30:19wants in the Bible, what God says is right from the Bible.
- 30:26When you tell them this, that, well OK, when you tell them all
- 30:31this, they will not listen to you.
- 30:33When you call to them, they will not answer.
- 30:36Therefore say to them, this is the nation that has not obeyed
- 30:42the Lord, It's God or responded to correction.
- 30:46God is so patient. He gives us like sometimes when
- 30:50bad things happen, it's to get our attention, to get us to
- 30:54where we make corrections in our life.
- 30:56Got to let bad things come along.
- 30:59And He wants us to correct something in our life.
- 31:02We need to seek Him to find out like God, why is this bad thing
- 31:05happening to me? What do you want from me?
- 31:08What is happening? What is this?
- 31:10And God will answer you. Truth has perished.
- 31:14It has vanished from their lips. Cut off your hair and throw it
- 31:18away. Take up a lament to on the
- 31:20barren heights for the Lord has rejected and abandoned this
- 31:25generation that is under his wrath.
- 31:28So that generation that Jeremiah was talking to were under God's
- 31:32wrath and he was going to show them because that they were
- 31:38under his wrath because that's how why he allowed the
- 31:41Babylonians to conquer. You know, there's other times
- 31:43where God protects his people and doesn't allow things to
- 31:47happen, but because they would, they just refused to obey God.
- 31:54Then he, you know, this is what he let happen.
- 31:58So let's see where else we go, OK?
- 32:06The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the
- 32:09Lord. They have set up their
- 32:10detestable idols in the house that bears my name and have
- 32:15defiled it. They have built the high places
- 32:18of Taupeth in the valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and
- 32:23daughters in the fire. Something I did not command nor
- 32:28did it enter my mind. So how did these people, I
- 32:32always wonder, how did these people get the thought that they
- 32:34could burn their children and that would be pleasing to God,
- 32:40to a God? What is this like this is maybe
- 32:44were these deceptive words? Were they because of their
- 32:47rebellion to God? Was the enemy making them think
- 32:51that he was God and so he was convincing them to kill their
- 32:54sons and daughters. That's what I think was probably
- 32:57happening to these people because they refuse.
- 33:00They rebelled against God, so God was giving them over to
- 33:03deception. So beware, the days are coming,
- 33:07says the Lord, when the people will no longer call it Topeth,
- 33:11or the valley of Ben Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter, for
- 33:15they will bury the dead in Topeth until there is no more
- 33:20room. Then the carcasses of this
- 33:23people will become food for the birds and the wild animals, and
- 33:27there will be no one to frighten them away.
- 33:30I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and
- 33:33to the voices of bride and bridegroom in the towns of Judah
- 33:36and the streets of Jerusalem, for the land will become
- 33:40desolate. Now this, I don't know if this
- 33:44actually happened that they were there was just no more room in
- 33:50Topath and they were just like the Valley of Slaughter, or if
- 33:54this is referring to future prophecy that is yet to be
- 33:58fulfilled. And so we see that this happens
- 34:03in Revelation chapter 19, and I don't know if I should read the
- 34:11whole thing. I think I'm just going to read
- 34:14about the heavenly warrior defeating the beast in
- 34:17Revelation 19 starting at Chapter 11.
- 34:20Actually I'll just read to you where this where this says in
- 34:25verses 17 and 18 it says. And I saw an Angel standing in
- 34:28the sun who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in
- 34:32mid air, come gathered together for the great supper of God, so
- 34:37that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty
- 34:42of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free
- 34:46and slave, great and small. Then I saw the beast in the
- 34:50kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage
- 34:54war against the rider on the horse in his army.
- 34:57That was Jesus in his army. That is, I mean this is future
- 35:00prophecy. But the beast was captured and
- 35:03with it the false prophet would perform the signs on its behalf.
- 35:08With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark
- 35:12of the beast and worshipped his image.
- 35:15The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of
- 35:19burning sulfur. The rest were killed with the
- 35:21sword coming out of the mouth, the rider on the horse, and all
- 35:25the birds gorge themselves on their flesh.
- 35:29So this Revelation 19 is very much like what God God was
- 35:34saying to Jeremiah was going to happen to the people.
- 35:38And again, I don't know if it happened before and it was a
- 35:43foreshadowing of a future event, but this is also something that
- 35:46is going to come later because the false prophet, there's going
- 35:50to be some religious figure that speaks lies and he forces people
- 35:55to get the mark of the beast. And that's in the future that
- 35:59hasn't come around yet. The beast is an entity of multi
- 36:06powers and kings. I think there's seven of them
- 36:10that are in alliance and they they have it in their hearts to
- 36:16rule over the entire earth and they force people to take the
- 36:21mark of the beast. I mean, these are things that,
- 36:23you know, everybody who studies prophecy has their eyes wide
- 36:27open right now because of this, all of this digital stuff that's
- 36:31happening in the world right now and AI And there are certainly
- 36:37we can see that this this ability to have a mark that in
- 36:46your hand or your forehead that you can only buy or sell if you
- 36:50have the mark. That wasn't possible many, many
- 36:54years ago or thousands of years ago, but it's possible today.
- 36:58And in fact, people in Sweden I know are actually getting
- 37:01something in their hand that unlocks stores that they can use
- 37:05to pay all of that, that that's literally, it's been several
- 37:09years now that that's been out in Sweden.
- 37:12They're doing that. So if they've started it there,
- 37:15eventually it's going to be going across the whole world.
- 37:19So again, this is showing us that Bible prophecy is being
- 37:24fulfilled. So here we are reading about
- 37:27something from 580 BC, you know, thousands of years ago that is
- 37:33now starting to come to life today in 2025.
- 37:39Now, how long is this going to take to roll out?
- 37:42We don't know. But everybody who's a Christian
- 37:44who studies Bible prophecy or reads the book of the prophets
- 37:48is certainly keeping their eyes open because it's all like
- 37:52seeming to come into our modern day life, the stuff that was
- 37:59talked about in the Bible. So stay in the Word of God
- 38:02because there there are blessings and curses that are
- 38:07revealed. And so you don't want the
- 38:09curses. So if you read the Bible, maybe
- 38:12you can avoid some. So I'll read the questions and
- 38:15answers for this chapter, and then we'll wrap it up.
- 38:18So why did Jeremiah preach at the Temple gate?
- 38:21Worshippers had to pass through this gate to enter the Temple
- 38:24courts. Jeremiah may have internal
- 38:27informally resumed an ancient practice in which a servant at
- 38:32the gate greeted pilgrims with a reminder to examine their moral
- 38:36lives as they entered the temple courts.
- 38:39Why was it deceptive to say the temple of the Lord?
- 38:43People believed that because the temple was so important to God,
- 38:46and because God was especially present in the temple, He would
- 38:50never allow it or the city it was in to be destroyed.
- 38:54They deceived themselves by believing that a religious
- 38:57shrine was more important to God than their obedience and
- 39:02faithfulness to Him whose innocent blood was shed.
- 39:06In the temple courts, the death penalty was used when specific
- 39:10laws were broken but unscrupulous teachers were
- 39:13executing innocent people. These injustices stained Judah
- 39:18like the lifeblood of the innocent people stained their
- 39:21clothing. This may also be an allusion to
- 39:25the sacrifice of children, an insidious practice of some false
- 39:29religions of that area that was practiced by some of Judah's
- 39:33leaders like Manasseh. Jeremiah was also warned,
- 39:40warning the people against such injustices and evils.
- 39:45How had the temple become a den of robbers?
- 39:48God's people were involved in all kinds of blatant sin and
- 39:51rebellion. Jeremiah had just referenced the
- 39:54breaking of five of the 10 commandments.
- 39:59However, the people continued to retreat to the temple and
- 40:02perform the rituals as if nothing was wrong.
- 40:05Just as thieves hid in caves and thought they were safe, the
- 40:09people of Judah falsely thought they were safe in the temple.
- 40:13What happened to Shiloh? As the people well knew, Shiloh
- 40:18was a place where God had made himself known, especially
- 40:22especially in raising up the prophet Samuel.
- 40:26Shiloh was located 30 miles north of Jerusalem in Israel's
- 40:30Hill Country. It was completely destroyed by
- 40:33the Philistines in approximately 1050 BC.
- 40:39Why did God tell Jeremiah not to pray?
- 40:43God told Jeremiah not to pray for the people because they had
- 40:46already been judged. They had refused to repent while
- 40:50they still had the opportunity. Now it was too late.
- 40:54God emphasized His resolve by saying, in effect, I don't want
- 40:58to hear any more about it. My mind is made-up.
- 41:03Why did nature suffer God's judgement?
- 41:06Because all creation lives in an ecosystem.
- 41:09When one part suffers, all parts suffer.
- 41:12By God's design, our environment is protected most when we live
- 41:17righteous lives. But sinful behavior can wreak
- 41:21havoc not only in our lives, but in the environment as well.
- 41:25Why did Jeremiah keep preaching when no one was listening?
- 41:28Jeremiah had to preach to be obedient to God's call.
- 41:31In fact, he found it impossible to keep God's word to himself.
- 41:36Apparently God wanted Jeremiah to speak to unheeding people so
- 41:41that they would be unable to say that they had not been warned.
- 41:46When judgment finally came, Jeremiah early sermons were
- 41:50opportunities for the people to change their ways.
- 41:54His later sermons announced the judgment to come.
- 41:58What did cutting off hair signify?
- 42:00Similar to how people today might show grief by dressing in
- 42:03black, the people of Ancient Near East expressed deep sorrow
- 42:08in other ways. One of those ways was to shave
- 42:11the head. Since a man's hair and beard
- 42:14signified his maturity and dignity, to shave it was was to
- 42:19suggest humility and great loss. What was built at the high
- 42:25places of Topoth in the valley of Ben Hinnom Altars, used for
- 42:29sacrifices, sometimes for child sacrifices to the Pagan God
- 42:34Molech. Topoth may have come from the
- 42:37Hebrew word for fireplace. Topath was near Jerusalem in the
- 42:43valley of Ben Hinnom, and was known as the place where people
- 42:47sacrificed their children by fire to Molech.
- 42:51Later, the valley became the city's garbage dump, where the
- 42:55corpses of criminals were discarded and the city trash was
- 42:58burned. Its perpetual fires caused it to
- 43:02become a symbol of future judgement.
- 43:06And that's the end of Chapter 7.
