- 0:00Speaker 1: I like to watch people dance, me too. I love

- 0:09Speaker 1: good at it. Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls Cloud Homework,

- 0:49Speaker 1: our latest episode of Long Story Short coming out this Thursday,
- 0:52Speaker 1: where I think we're going to talk a little bit
- 0:53Speaker 1: more in depth about mom life in the end of
- 0:56Speaker 1: the school year. Yes, all right, Well today we're discussing
- 1:00Speaker 1: Dream Moms, which originally aired on Saturday, May thirteenth on

- 1:36Speaker 1: this episode and on our website, Megan and Wendy dot
- 1:38Speaker 1: com slash Podcast. I have some Hallmark news to share
- 1:43Speaker 1: with you. I'm dying to know. The first is like
- 1:45Speaker 1: a rumor, but with some substantiated information. All right, So
- 1:50Speaker 1: Hallmark has not made any formal announcements about this next
- 1:54Speaker 1: piece of information, but there is a lot of evidence
- 1:58Speaker 1: that there is a sequel coming four Haul Out the
- 2:01Speaker 1: Holly oh and there is evidence that filming has already wrapped.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Oh interesting meaning was not affected by the current writers strike,
- 2:14Speaker 1: so rapped. So here's here's some of the evidence, and
- 2:17Speaker 1: this is all via heavy dot com. We'll leave a
- 2:19Speaker 1: link to the full article in the show notes. There
- 2:21Speaker 1: was a lot of social media buzz and there was
- 2:26Speaker 1: a IMDb for Haul Out the Holly two that has
- 2:30Speaker 1: since been deleted. Oh that was originally found by one
- 2:35Speaker 1: Sleepy Kitti pop oh. I didn't know that Sleepy Kitty
- 2:38Speaker 1: Paw was like an internet sleuth as well. Do they
- 2:41Speaker 1: have the screenshots to prove it? I don't know. Also,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Utah background acting Troup was posting for extras for
- 2:50Speaker 1: haul Out the Holly two, which shot April seventeenth to
- 2:52Speaker 1: May fifth. They needed roles like shop customers, attendees of
- 2:56Speaker 1: a Christmas carnival, and people willing to participate in a
- 2:59Speaker 1: snowball fight scene. And the Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity
- 3:04Speaker 1: Board announced that it awarded funding to several TV and
- 3:09Speaker 1: film production companies, and one of them is Hallmark for
- 3:12Speaker 1: returning to film hall Out the Holly too. That's super it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I mean all signs point to yes, don't you think so?
- 3:19Speaker 1: Point to yes? But Hallmark is holding out for that
- 3:22Speaker 1: big announcement. How do you feel about a haul Out
- 3:25Speaker 1: the Holly? Is it? Haul Out the Holly? It is?
- 3:28Speaker 1: How do you feel about a sequel? I loved that movie.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I liked it too, and I think they could do
- 3:33Speaker 1: great things with the sequel, Like what like is she
- 3:36Speaker 1: going to become the like Agro? Like everybody has to
- 3:39Speaker 1: have it done. Not really sure I even care. I
- 3:42Speaker 1: just like that combination of characters. I thought it was
- 3:46Speaker 1: so fun to watch. Yes, it had a good cask
- 3:50Speaker 1: of characters. I thought Lazy and West were such a
- 3:53Speaker 1: great hearing. It was just the kind of movie that
- 3:54Speaker 1: made me smile the whole time I was watching it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I loved it. I think I said it was my
- 3:59Speaker 1: favorite movie of the year. So that would be welcome news. Yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 1: all signs point to yet I would be super excited
- 4:05Speaker 1: for that movie as well. In Hallmark adjacent news, tell
- 4:08Speaker 1: me if you've heard this, Sony has a branch a
- 4:13Speaker 1: property called Peerflix, which is a faith based streaming platform.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I read the article, and you know who they've moveged. Yes,
- 4:23Speaker 1: mister Wooden, Bill Abbott and the people at GAFF. Of course,
- 4:28Speaker 1: Sleepy Kitty pause on the case. She quoted the article
- 4:31Speaker 1: where it says Bill and the Great American Media team
- 4:34Speaker 1: have been successfully leading Great American Family and Great American
- 4:37Speaker 1: Living brands, and we believe they have a winning plan
- 4:40Speaker 1: to take Peerflix to even greater heights. Look, it's not
- 4:42Speaker 1: just sour grace. If you look at the numbers. Great
- 4:45Speaker 1: American Family isn't performing. They're not churning out original content.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Their lineup is purely reruns. Yes they had a Candae
- 4:52Speaker 1: Cameron Burray original last year, Yes they'll have another one
- 4:55Speaker 1: this year. But they're not doing what they purport to
- 4:58Speaker 1: be doing. It's no peak, so it's no peacock etfo.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm not worried about it, not at all. But they're
- 5:05Speaker 1: going to be putting that feather in their cap for
- 5:07Speaker 1: a little bit. It's not a peacock feather, So that's right. Well,
- 5:10Speaker 1: let's talk dream moms. Okay, you want a synopsis? Always
- 5:14Speaker 1: two moms whose Broadway dreams got deferred enter a TV
- 5:19Speaker 1: talent show competition together and learn that it's never too
- 5:22Speaker 1: late to become what or who you want to be.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Dream Bobs was filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia,
- 5:30Speaker 1: in April twenty twenty three. Oh not not long ago, no, ma'am.
- 5:35Speaker 1: The EP on this movie is Roxanne Messina Captor. But
- 5:40Speaker 1: she also this is where I get real confused. IMDb
- 5:44Speaker 1: incorrectly lists her as a writer, although it would appear
- 5:48Speaker 1: she gets story credit. Yes, so she is credited as
- 5:52Speaker 1: the writer, but in Hallmark's own press release. She's listed
- 5:57Speaker 1: as the EP In her social media, she calls it
- 6:01Speaker 1: her story. Yeah. I saw her Instagram post and it
- 6:04Speaker 1: was like my story on Hallmark. I was like, what. Yes.
- 6:10Speaker 1: The script credit goes to Jesselyn Barry. She also wrote
- 6:13Speaker 1: Girl Friendship and Christmas in Harmony four Hallmark. She has
- 6:16Speaker 1: five total writing credits, with three of them being four
- 6:19Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies. Got It Tamara Maury Howsley. That name trips
- 6:24Speaker 1: me up every single time. But I think I nailed it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: You did week. She plays Danielle Smith. She has thirty
- 6:30Speaker 1: five acting credits. This is her sixth Hallmark movie, which
- 6:33Speaker 1: surprises me a little bit. You thought there'd be more.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I thought there would be a ton more. Other credits
- 6:38Speaker 1: include in Inventing the Christmas Prince, Girl Friendship, the Santa
- 6:42Speaker 1: Steak Out one of my faves, to be honest, Christmas
- 6:46Speaker 1: Comes Twice, and Christmas a Miracle. She was also recently
- 6:50Speaker 1: on The Masked Singer and she does her own singing
- 6:53Speaker 1: in this movie. Does her sister ever appear in Hallmark movies?
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't think so. Does her sister act still? I
- 7:00Speaker 1: think so? Why don't they do a movie together? Great question?
- 7:03Speaker 1: That would be so fun, just like how we had
- 7:05Speaker 1: like sister swap. Yeah with those two sisters, like their
- 7:08Speaker 1: neighbor sister. Yes, Like why don't they do a movie together?
- 7:12Speaker 1: That'd be so awesome. Yeah, okay. This is directed by
- 7:15Speaker 1: Jessica Harmon. She has fourteen directing credits, including the Amanda
- 7:19Speaker 1: Klutes Christmas movie Fit for Christmas plus Nilemeters Rip in Time.
- 7:24Speaker 1: She also has seventy acting credits, including a starring role
- 7:27Speaker 1: in The one hundred, which was ACW series Something you watched.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I've seen episodes of Chelsea Hobbes plays Claire Ryan. She
- 7:35Speaker 1: played the sister in The Holiday Sitter. I don't remember her,
- 7:40Speaker 1: do you? I didn't until I realized that that's who
- 7:43Speaker 1: she played. She was so familiar and I couldn't figure
- 7:45Speaker 1: out what I had seen her in recently, And it
- 7:46Speaker 1: was that she also played Laura Layton in the unauthorized
- 7:51Speaker 1: melrose Place story. God, I love those kind of movies,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I know you do. And she was also in eight
- 7:56Speaker 1: episodes of Unreal Indeed also sy not she but had
- 8:00Speaker 1: a recurring role on The L Word which Meghan wrote
- 8:04Speaker 1: these notes and I was like, the L word was
- 8:06Speaker 1: so long ago, like the original was so long ago,
- 8:10Speaker 1: and I've watched it. I actually really love that series,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but I can't place her in it at all. Matti
- 8:16Speaker 1: Thanocchio alert he plays television house Brian Breecrest and I
- 8:21Speaker 1: didn't get the joke right away, but I texted Meghan.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I was like, get this, no joke. His name is
- 8:25Speaker 1: Brian Breecrest, and then I had to explain it to
- 8:28Speaker 1: her today. Okay. He has one hundred eight acting credits.
- 8:31Speaker 1: He's a long time favorite over here at Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 8:34Speaker 1: He also recently played at quiz show host on another show, Riverdale.
- 8:38Speaker 1: He also had a role in The Holiday Sitter, as
- 8:41Speaker 1: well as Just One Kiss and The Wedding Vale Legacy,
- 8:44Speaker 1: most recently for Hallmark. Look Maddi Finikio. I know we
- 8:47Speaker 1: talked about all the time. He needs a leading role
- 8:52Speaker 1: one hundred percent. I think he's really funny. They either
- 8:55Speaker 1: need to put him in some sort of rom com
- 8:57Speaker 1: or they need to put him in a mystery mystery
- 9:00Speaker 1: like the one that Paul Campbell did. I can't remember
- 9:03Speaker 1: what they're called. They have a genre specific name, like
- 9:06Speaker 1: a comedy mystery or something like that. I really like him,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I just think he needs bigger roles. We were discussing
- 9:13Speaker 1: our love for Matti Pinocchio on our Instagram months ago,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and I believe it was writer Heather Hawthorne Doyle who
- 9:20Speaker 1: says she always writes roles with Mattie Finocchio in mine.
- 9:23Speaker 1: She'd love to see him an elite role as well.
- 9:25Speaker 1: He's been very kind to us in our DMS. Yes,
- 9:28Speaker 1: so that's not why we're nice about him, because he
- 9:31Speaker 1: likes long before he acknowledged us for a long time. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Matthew James Dowda plays neighbor Sam. Now, look, this guy
- 9:38Speaker 1: looks so familiar to me. I thought he was a
- 9:41Speaker 1: soap actor? Does he have a British accent? Okay, I
- 9:45Speaker 1: don't know. I went and looked. Most of his acting
- 9:48Speaker 1: credits are Hallmark Great has learnt his lesson? Now that
- 9:51Speaker 1: was the uh and that's about the sun of it
- 9:54Speaker 1: as well. But what has he been in with a
- 9:56Speaker 1: British accent? Y'all might remember him as the British TV
- 9:59Speaker 1: host of Hallmarks. Don't go break in my heart. I
- 10:03Speaker 1: don't know what I'm remembering him from, but anyway, please,
- 10:06Speaker 1: if you guys know, it was a welcome sight on
- 10:08Speaker 1: my TV screen me too. If you guys know, if
- 10:11Speaker 1: you're screaming while listening to this, email us Megan and
- 10:15Speaker 1: Windy at gmail. Roger Cross plays Danielle's husband Mark. One
- 10:18Speaker 1: hundred and sixty acting credits to his name. That might
- 10:21Speaker 1: top the list. It's very close to the most you've
- 10:23Speaker 1: ever seen. His very first credit and Deep Dive is
- 10:26Speaker 1: an episode of twenty one Jump Street in nineteen eighty nine.
- 10:29Speaker 1: He was also in forty five episodes of the series
- 10:31Speaker 1: twenty four from two thousand and five to two thousand
- 10:34Speaker 1: and seven. I love that show. Did you also watch
- 10:38Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty eight other things? I just sometimes
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'm just like, make chill out something interesting. Yeah. Sierra
- 10:45Speaker 1: Staples Play's daughter Sandra. This is her third acting credit
- 10:50Speaker 1: only and she's appeared in one episode of Schmigadoon Show
- 10:53Speaker 1: Megan Loves and Hallmark's Christmas and Tell Hooe. Glenn Gordon
- 10:57Speaker 1: plays son Paul Ryan. He has twenty two acting credits.
- 11:01Speaker 1: He was most recently in Unexpected Grace. He played that
- 11:04Speaker 1: dude in the Coffee Shop, but he also was an
- 11:06Speaker 1: Open By Christmas and Sweet Carolina for Homark. See another
- 11:10Speaker 1: He is another actor who I was like, where do
- 11:12Speaker 1: I recognize this kid from? Like? Yeah, are you in soaps?
- 11:15Speaker 1: I don't know why I'm connecting all these people to soaps. Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 1: There are three original songs performed in this movie. They
- 11:21Speaker 1: were written specifically for the film Dream That Dream, Bring
- 11:24Speaker 1: It Back, and so right. What's your first impression of
- 11:27Speaker 1: this movie? Okay, Well, speaking of songs, is it me?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Or is this song a bop? No? No song? Never
- 11:35Speaker 1: want to be the one you for? Of Ganta, she
- 11:37Speaker 1: sosly j Lo. I think she sounds great, She's got
- 11:41Speaker 1: great voice. I think she's say and I like that
- 11:43Speaker 1: song too. My first impression is Hammart couldn't help themselves
- 11:46Speaker 1: and had to release this on Mother's Day weekend. I mean,
- 11:49Speaker 1: good for them, don't just think which brings me to
- 11:51Speaker 1: my first like if I may, But yeah, I loved
- 11:54Speaker 1: the messaging about moms putting everyone else first, from the
- 11:57Speaker 1: very beginning where Danielle's like, I'll skip it when she
- 12:01Speaker 1: hears her husband, oh well my wife has We see
- 12:05Speaker 1: Claire's son getting on her case because she, a single
- 12:07Speaker 1: mom with a job, dares to miss one sporting event
- 12:11Speaker 1: from her child, and then the final line from a
- 12:14Speaker 1: husband Mark wraps it up. It's not the final line,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but the final line in this arc where he says
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's odd that a family wouldn't choose to support a
- 12:23Speaker 1: mother in response to his boss finding it odd that
- 12:25Speaker 1: a mother wouldn't choose to support her family. MM. Loved it.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I had read some criticism that people didn't like this movie,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and I'm going to tell you that I loved it
- 12:37Speaker 1: because it was not your normal Hallmark movie, right, And
- 12:42Speaker 1: I actually give Hallmark props for trying new things see
- 12:46Speaker 1: And I think people don't like it because it doesn't
- 12:48Speaker 1: fit in the Hallmark box of movies that we've seen
- 12:52Speaker 1: year after year after year after year. I agree with that.
- 12:55Speaker 1: And I also think there's something to be said for
- 12:58Speaker 1: taking a big swing and not completing the home run.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So you think they took a big swing and didn't
- 13:04Speaker 1: get a home run? I do. Oh, I would like
- 13:06Speaker 1: to hear more about that, Okay, have it. Another thing
- 13:10Speaker 1: I really liked about this movie is that it was
- 13:12Speaker 1: what I hoped it would be. Yes, when I remember
- 13:15Speaker 1: reading the synopsis way back when we like do reviews
- 13:18Speaker 1: of these previews of these movies, I was worried that
- 13:21Speaker 1: it was gonna be like two moms against each other.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and that's I don't want to see movies
- 13:27Speaker 1: where it's women versus women. So I liked that Instead
- 13:31Speaker 1: of like a squaring off in competition, we got a
- 13:34Speaker 1: story about the sacrifices moms make for their families. Mm hmmm.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So I'm I liked it to our point we just
- 13:42Speaker 1: made to marimou Rihausley Ken sang, I liked it. I
- 13:45Speaker 1: liked her singing a lot. Yeah, when it opens on
- 13:48Speaker 1: her singing, we've get that throwback scene. You know, I'm
- 13:51Speaker 1: just like taking notes as I'm watching it, and my
- 13:53Speaker 1: first note is, is that s Maran? Yeah it is.
- 13:55Speaker 1: I don't think all of the performance elements paid off
- 13:59Speaker 1: in this, but I do think this singing was a
- 14:02Speaker 1: moment to enjoy. You mean this, We'll get there. I
- 14:07Speaker 1: thought some of the dialogue and this movie was really funny.
- 14:10Speaker 1: For example, when Danny and Clara are shopping at the beginning,
- 14:13Speaker 1: they're looking at these like silky robes and Danny goes, okay, Blanche,
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm love out loud. I just thought it was funny
- 14:21Speaker 1: because Hallmark shows so many episodes reruns up Golden Girls,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and I was like, okay, all right, all right, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: then twice there was innu windows about a peach cobbler,
- 14:30Speaker 1: like it was sexy flirtation that was happening. They said
- 14:34Speaker 1: it like one time early on. And then when she
- 14:38Speaker 1: goes in to change her clothes, he goes, there's that
- 14:41Speaker 1: peach cobbler, and I was like, zay damn. I pulled
- 14:46Speaker 1: a funny tweet somewhat about that moment where someonent, Jasmine
- 14:49Speaker 1: Hester at shream sixteen tweeted, this was Hallmark after Dark
- 14:52Speaker 1: until the strawberry got stuck in her teeth. Yeah, it
- 14:56Speaker 1: was funny. Finally, just one last thing. I like when
- 14:59Speaker 1: we see contemporary things in our movies. Sometimes they don't last,
- 15:04Speaker 1: like they don't age well. But I like that the
- 15:07Speaker 1: mom and the daughter are making tiktoks, yes, and they
- 15:09Speaker 1: call it a TikTok that you're trying to with a
- 15:11Speaker 1: goofy name for it. Right. In addition to the okay bland,
- 15:15Speaker 1: she said get it aunt viv, which that's a fresh
- 15:19Speaker 1: Princi Belair reference for anybody who might have missed that,
- 15:21Speaker 1: and she does it twice. I'm a little bit obsessed
- 15:24Speaker 1: with Claire's whole look in this movie. Oh my gosh,
- 15:26Speaker 1: you're her whole vibe about her. I don't know specifically
- 15:31Speaker 1: one scene where she's like dressing the mannequin dancing around,
- 15:35Speaker 1: but her outfit is so cute. Yes, her hair, her clothes,
- 15:39Speaker 1: even right down to her oversized sweatshirt laying around the
- 15:41Speaker 1: house moment. Yes. What'd you think of the final costuming
- 15:45Speaker 1: for their dance perform? Tragic? Really the robes over the cute.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is like giving me what's
- 15:53Speaker 1: the dance show? Dance songs? No, dancing with the Stars. Yes,
- 15:57Speaker 1: why think they're shimmery, a little rombers. I liked that,
- 16:02Speaker 1: but the blue robes on top of it, I did
- 16:05Speaker 1: not get. I didn't understand their mom she shedding their
- 16:10Speaker 1: mom it fell flat fly Oh, I thought it was cute.
- 16:13Speaker 1: And then they did have their cute little like glittery outfits,
- 16:17Speaker 1: but they had like matching tights and shoot, it just
- 16:21Speaker 1: was like, all, sorry, you didn't love that. I didn't
- 16:24Speaker 1: love it. Sorry, I liked the outfit she picked out instead,
- 16:28Speaker 1: like that one piece you know when she went shopping. Yes,
- 16:30Speaker 1: I like that instead. Okay, not this, Okay, Hey, I
- 16:36Speaker 1: really enjoyed both teenage kids in this movie. I like
- 16:39Speaker 1: that They were portrayed as driven mm hmmm, driven smart
- 16:43Speaker 1: kids as opposed to like shitty teenagers who like roll
- 16:46Speaker 1: their eyes and you know, mm hmmm. And I mean
- 16:49Speaker 1: I might have cried a little bit when they read
- 16:51Speaker 1: the essay that the boy wrote about it. Oh my god, Yes,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I liked that too. I have a comment on the boy.
- 17:00Speaker 1: But okay, both of their houses were very pretty inside, yes,
- 17:05Speaker 1: except for the primary bedroom of the married couple just
- 17:11Speaker 1: was decorated like very outdated. And I was like, oh,
- 17:14Speaker 1: this just must be like an futterally different outs or
- 17:17Speaker 1: room or yeah, stage I had updated, like they're downstairs.
- 17:22Speaker 1: They said it was beautiful. Now. So as a transition,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I will say what we said is I appreciate Hallmark
- 17:29Speaker 1: being ambitious with this movie because I do think this
- 17:32Speaker 1: is a story unlike one Hallmark usually tells, and it's
- 17:36Speaker 1: a format with kind of the dual storylines that we
- 17:40Speaker 1: don't always get. I don't think it fully paid off. Why.
- 17:44Speaker 1: I think there are limitations to what you can do
- 17:48Speaker 1: in an hour and twenty four minutes of airtime. And
- 17:51Speaker 1: we had multiple things happening. We have Claire and Danielle
- 17:57Speaker 1: trying to find themselves. We have Danielle and Sam, her neighbor,
- 18:05Speaker 1: starting a romance. We have son Paul Ryan trying to
- 18:10Speaker 1: get this scholarship, get into this school. We have daughter
- 18:13Speaker 1: Sandra also trying to impress her dance teacher. We have
- 18:18Speaker 1: the little brother trying to I think there's a lot
- 18:20Speaker 1: going on. Oh so too many like offshoots, and I
- 18:22Speaker 1: would have appreciated a little more attention, maybe specifically on
- 18:28Speaker 1: Claire and Sam. Who's Sam, Sam's the neighbor, the romantic
- 18:32Speaker 1: storyline you wanted more of? I don't know what I
- 18:35Speaker 1: wanted more of. I don't liked Sam a lot. I
- 18:39Speaker 1: liked Sam and Claire together. I liked that. You know,
- 18:41Speaker 1: that's a good question. I don't know what do I
- 18:43Speaker 1: want more of the kids? I want more of the moms.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I think we got enough of the moms. Oh interesting,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I think we got enough of the moms. I don't Okay,
- 18:53Speaker 1: I disagree, Okay, meaning because we have Danny who is
- 19:00Speaker 1: really a stay at home mom, who's busy doing stay
- 19:03Speaker 1: at home mom things and shout out I'm a stay
- 19:05Speaker 1: at home mom. But I think she needed like a
- 19:08Speaker 1: fuller storyline. Okay. We never see her outside of her
- 19:13Speaker 1: family or outside of her relationship with Claire. We never
- 19:15Speaker 1: see her living her own life, right, and she alludes
- 19:19Speaker 1: to it. Mm hmmm, you're right, we don't see it. Yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I just wish we could have seen like some of
- 19:24Speaker 1: her desire, like, oh, I I'm missing this aspect of
- 19:30Speaker 1: my life. Do you think it's the Broadway aspect of
- 19:34Speaker 1: her life that she's missing? I think it's the performing
- 19:37Speaker 1: or being creative or something, right, Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I didn't think this was a bad movie. I actually
- 19:45Speaker 1: very much enjoyed it. But I for me, it didn't
- 19:49Speaker 1: feel complete. So hear me out here. What's Chelsea's name
- 19:53Speaker 1: in the movie? Claire Claire. So she has a job
- 19:56Speaker 1: that she doesn't really enjoy, right, and but we have Danny,
- 20:01Speaker 1: and but we don't see that she's not enjoying her
- 20:04Speaker 1: role as a stay at home mom. Yes, I like, Yes,
- 20:06Speaker 1: that's a good point. I'm going to lean on a
- 20:08Speaker 1: comment that I've made several times while reviewing movies. I
- 20:11Speaker 1: think we are complicated people, and I think it's okay
- 20:14Speaker 1: to share those complicated stories with people. So I think
- 20:17Speaker 1: by missing the mark, I think they should have showed
- 20:20Speaker 1: Danny as being unhappy, unfulfilled, are there moments in your day, Megan,
- 20:27Speaker 1: as a stay at home mom, are you unfulfilled? That's
- 20:31Speaker 1: a good question because this makes me think of another
- 20:36Speaker 1: show that I've talked about on this podcast, which is
- 20:39Speaker 1: a show on Apple TV plus The Big Door Prize.
- 20:41Speaker 1: The Big Door Prize, it's kind of all about people's destiny,
- 20:45Speaker 1: whether it's big or small, and whether it's okay to
- 20:50Speaker 1: have your destiny be small in the grand scheme of
- 20:54Speaker 1: things and be okay with that. It's complicated because I
- 20:58Speaker 1: don't want to suggest that someone who is to stay
- 21:00Speaker 1: at home mom can't be fulfilled by that, that you
- 21:04Speaker 1: can't find fulfillment in being the volunteer, in participating in
- 21:09Speaker 1: your family's life. And that doesn't mean you take a
- 21:11Speaker 1: back seat all of your wants and needs and desires
- 21:13Speaker 1: take a back seat. Are there times when as a
- 21:16Speaker 1: stay at home mom, I have felt frustrated that the
- 21:19Speaker 1: things that I want to do have had to take
- 21:21Speaker 1: a back seat to the wants and needs of my family?
- 21:24Speaker 1: One billion percent yes, I agree. And they don't show
- 21:27Speaker 1: that happening to her, which you're right. They show her
- 21:31Speaker 1: being like a very willing she's internalized the idea that
- 21:34Speaker 1: I am existing to serve my family and hasn't internalized
- 21:40Speaker 1: the idea that she can put herself first. Right now,
- 21:43Speaker 1: hear me out on this idea. Do you think it
- 21:45Speaker 1: was on purpose that they made these moms a little
- 21:48Speaker 1: bit different? You have to stay at home mom and
- 21:50Speaker 1: then you have this like single parent working mom, right,
- 21:54Speaker 1: And do you think they made it like that so
- 21:56Speaker 1: audiences at home could identify with one or the other. Yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: And I think it's important to do that. And it's
- 22:04Speaker 1: not just to say that the stay at home mom
- 22:06Speaker 1: with resources, she lives in this big, usful house, she
- 22:10Speaker 1: can hire all the help that she needs. In theory,
- 22:15Speaker 1: is the only one who can have this like a family.
- 22:18Speaker 1: She's working, she's the only parent in the home, but
- 22:22Speaker 1: that family can still mold itself to accommodate the needs
- 22:26Speaker 1: of everyone's family too. Right. This is probably me projecting
- 22:30Speaker 1: onto this character. But Danny has this child who I
- 22:34Speaker 1: feel like she has an only child, similar to my
- 22:36Speaker 1: own story. And that child is getting older and now
- 22:39Speaker 1: you're transitioning out of like parenting a younger child like
- 22:43Speaker 1: you're now parenting in like a young adult who is
- 22:47Speaker 1: moving on to independence, right, and you're left with like, well,
- 22:51Speaker 1: what's next for me? Right? So, but they didn't like
- 22:56Speaker 1: illustrate that. They didn't explore that. So it's just me
- 22:58Speaker 1: projecting onto it. I've having lots of feelings about that
- 23:02Speaker 1: phase of parenting. Oh me too, totally. Can I tell
- 23:05Speaker 1: you a couple things I wish for please? One, they
- 23:08Speaker 1: only showed Danny wearing athletic wear, which cheps my hide
- 23:12Speaker 1: because like, she's just stay at home mom. We don't
- 23:16Speaker 1: just wear yoga pants every day all day. I just
- 23:20Speaker 1: I hate that stereotype. I just hate it. Also, I'm
- 23:24Speaker 1: super confused by their act. So Danny sings and Claire dances,
- 23:30Speaker 1: Like is that it? I wrote how do we solve
- 23:34Speaker 1: the dancing problem? Because I do think they bring Claire
- 23:38Speaker 1: in as a backup singer. It gives her more to do.
- 23:41Speaker 1: But their act to me was imbalanced because Danny's singing
- 23:46Speaker 1: is strong, and I buy it for a competition like this.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I don't think Claire is a bad dancer. Her body
- 23:55Speaker 1: looks good, she's comfortable on stage. I don't think they
- 23:59Speaker 1: gave her any level of complicated choreography to be doing
- 24:03Speaker 1: on stage. And therefore, I think a duet where you've
- 24:07Speaker 1: got a singer and a dancer is an odd combo,
- 24:11Speaker 1: doesn't it make any sense? And that's another place where
- 24:14Speaker 1: I feel like this is a big swing on hallmarks
- 24:17Speaker 1: cart which happens when you create these characters with jobs
- 24:20Speaker 1: that you want to represent visually, and how do you
- 24:24Speaker 1: do that when you're not using actual experts in the field.
- 24:28Speaker 1: And I hate to say this because I really enjoyed
- 24:31Speaker 1: Claire and the actress Chelsea Hobbs quite a bit on screen,
- 24:35Speaker 1: but I think they did her a little bit of
- 24:37Speaker 1: a disservice just just doing this like lyrical dance in
- 24:43Speaker 1: the background that I think were there ten people doing
- 24:47Speaker 1: that in the background, maybe it would have been a
- 24:50Speaker 1: stronger visual performance. Yea, I've seen solo lyrical performances. Yea,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I have brought me to tears. They needed to give
- 24:58Speaker 1: her more to do. My husband this last, you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: their last big act on the show, and he's like,
- 25:03Speaker 1: what are you watching? So I was like, it's not
- 25:07Speaker 1: that bad, it's okay. But the dancing, the whole, the
- 25:10Speaker 1: whole dancing part of it made me uncomfortable. I like
- 25:16Speaker 1: to watch people dance, me too. I love watching dance competitions,
- 25:19Speaker 1: me too. But I think I like to watch it
- 25:22Speaker 1: when they're incredibly talented. Yes, when they're good at it.
- 25:26Speaker 1: She wasn't good at it. It just was weird. It
- 25:29Speaker 1: was weird. For example, when she is taking the first
- 25:33Speaker 1: dance class, that was great, I thought, but she wasn't
- 25:37Speaker 1: having a dance off with Danny, Like, No, that was weird.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Danny just comes in and then all of a sudden,
- 25:43Speaker 1: she's like stepping her enders. Really wish she didn't seen
- 25:48Speaker 1: the moon when they just did. If only this were
- 25:52Speaker 1: a video podcast right now. I did think those were
- 25:56Speaker 1: her strongest dance moves. Though we're in that dance class.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's just so bizarre. Although I will say that the
- 26:04Speaker 1: song they're dancing to has three lines, it's are you ready,
- 26:09Speaker 1: Let's get started? And but um but um but um
- 26:11Speaker 1: bum bum. I had the captions on that's where is
- 26:19Speaker 1: Paul Mark hip hop for you? Yeah, it just it
- 26:22Speaker 1: made me uncomfortable. Were you happy that they did not win?
- 26:25Speaker 1: I kind of expected it, I guess, like I was
- 26:28Speaker 1: waiting for it. But oh, of course, somebody from Broadway
- 26:31Speaker 1: wasn't it in the audience and wants to give them
- 26:34Speaker 1: a shell. I wouldn't have believed it if they had won. No,
- 26:37Speaker 1: because that wasn't that good, right, But and they've been
- 26:41Speaker 1: practicing for two weeks. Yeah, I wanted to talk about
- 26:44Speaker 1: the sun. This son, Paul Ryan, he's the older son
- 26:47Speaker 1: of Claire in this movie, and it's not so much
- 26:50Speaker 1: a wish. I just hated how he got in his
- 26:53Speaker 1: mom's face about her missing his little brother's game. You
- 26:58Speaker 1: can't tell me that your mom, who wore works full
- 27:00Speaker 1: time and has two children, has never had to miss
- 27:02Speaker 1: an event because she had to be in two places
- 27:04Speaker 1: at once. Yeah, totally. Hey, I hated the misunderstanding in
- 27:07Speaker 1: this movie. Get dumb. I hate misunderstandings in every movie.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It might be the worst one we've ever seen because
- 27:13Speaker 1: Danny says I need to talk to you, and Claire
- 27:14Speaker 1: just keeps on talking about her problems with her boss,
- 27:17Speaker 1: and then she never follows up. There's no reality in
- 27:21Speaker 1: that moment. Agree, Ready, if we did to see that,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I am okay. Sam and Clara go for a walk
- 27:28Speaker 1: at a park and he says, this is a beautiful park.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I've never been here before. But right prior to this scene,
- 27:34Speaker 1: they show sweeping views of New York City, including Central Park,
- 27:40Speaker 1: leading the viewer to believe they are in Central Park
- 27:43Speaker 1: and now he's like, this is a beautiful park. I've
- 27:45Speaker 1: never been here before. How long have you lived in
- 27:47Speaker 1: New York? So you're walking there from your home? Yeah?
- 27:50Speaker 1: And she's like, yeah, I used to take the kids
- 27:52Speaker 1: here all the time, of great memories. I'm like, what. Well,
- 27:55Speaker 1: speaking of Sam and Claire, Claire takes a dog outside.
- 27:57Speaker 1: She stops to shock to neighbor Sam. He invites her
- 27:59Speaker 1: to breakfast. She declined, it's because she's all of a
- 28:00Speaker 1: sudden decided she's going to go to a dance class.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But that poor dog never goes potty. She turns around,
- 28:04Speaker 1: goes right back in the house. Oh sad, poor little
- 28:07Speaker 1: puppy never got to go potty. Sad. I can't remember
- 28:10Speaker 1: where it happened in the movie exactly, but they are
- 28:12Speaker 1: outside the theater and in the background, a man and
- 28:16Speaker 1: a woman walk by, and the woman has a full
- 28:19Speaker 1: boom box on her on her shoulder, And I was like,
- 28:22Speaker 1: does this take place in the eighties? What's happening here? Well,
- 28:25Speaker 1: who's walking around with a boom box on their shoulder?
- 28:28Speaker 1: When they're practicing at the dance studio, the brother is
- 28:31Speaker 1: like pushing play on a boombox. Oh my gosh, you'd
- 28:34Speaker 1: be on your iPhone with a bluetooth speaker totally. In
- 28:37Speaker 1: their final performance, they cut to like an audience reacting
- 28:40Speaker 1: to them, and it is so obviously search audience be
- 28:44Speaker 1: roll applauding at our perform. Really, I didn't notice audience,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and they're like, they're not there, yikes. And finally for me,
- 28:53Speaker 1: in their performance, their last performance, they're both singing, but
- 28:57Speaker 1: they're they have no mics. They are not whole mikes,
- 29:01Speaker 1: they're not wearing mics nothing. They're just it just looks
- 29:04Speaker 1: like they're like lip singing. Bring it. But I don't know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: so you're singing at this point because there's so many
- 29:09Speaker 1: different songs in this movie. But what those kind of
- 29:12Speaker 1: like things bug me? I'm ready for rating. Look, I
- 29:16Speaker 1: like the messaging. I give it four stars. I give
- 29:18Speaker 1: it three and a half points for a big swing.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I'm just curious, Like for listeners of the podcast here,
- 29:22Speaker 1: like what you guys thought about this movie, like is
- 29:24Speaker 1: do you want to see Hallmark make more movies like this?
- 29:28Speaker 1: I think it's important to show relationships other than romantic
- 29:31Speaker 1: relationships and desires other than romantic desire. So I like
- 29:36Speaker 1: these kind of movies. I enjoyed this. Later this week
- 29:40Speaker 1: you can come back and hear are thoughts on Ride
