- 0:17Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm outside today, gotta keep my voice down so I
- 0:24Speaker 2: don't wake the neighbors.
- 0:25Speaker 1: But hunters Areberniki.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Austin Rose to go to Free Tag Monday morning, I
- 0:30Speaker 2: guess is when this is getting released, but we're recording
- 0:32Speaker 2: Sunday night. We've had a couple of days to again everything.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Austin was at the game. Normally it's flipped where Dak
- 0:42Speaker 2: and I are at the game or at the location.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Austin was there, we were not, and Huskers lose in
- 0:48Speaker 2: overtime to Illinois to send us three and one, bumping
- 0:54Speaker 2: us out of the rankings as we expected. Yeah, we're here,
- 1:01Speaker 2: We're here. There's been a roller coaster of emotions and thoughts.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm telling you guys, I have fifteen twenty bullets PM,
- 1:11Speaker 2: gonna get to all of them. Will probably just jump
- 1:13Speaker 2: around today, which is okay. But yeah, there's a lot,
- 1:17Speaker 2: a lot of emotions and thoughts over the last forty
- 1:19Speaker 2: eight hours. Dak, get your initial thoughts out of the way,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and get you get your initial consolences out of out
- 1:29Speaker 2: on ou because that was a disaster too.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Okay, we'll talk about you right away.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I am not.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I can't believe it is about how Coome and played.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I thought they looked good. Their offense looked absolutely awful.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Their defense I was I was happy with. I wasn't
- 1:48Speaker 3: like pumped about how we played. I'm happy with how
- 1:50Speaker 3: he played.
- 1:51Speaker 4: We hung with him.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Did you go back and watch the game because he
- 1:56Speaker 2: didn't make it through half? Okay, he didn't watch any
- 2:01Speaker 2: of the end when they actually played actually a little
- 2:03Speaker 2: bit better.
- 2:04Speaker 3: But I think we have a different quarterback now that
- 2:07Speaker 3: Dree freshman is gonna be our starter, Jackson Donald in
- 2:09Speaker 3: the tank.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You didn't watch him play at all live last night.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It's all I got is no, I didn't Austin.
- 2:15Speaker 1: How you feeling tonight?
- 2:17Speaker 4: I feel better tonight than I did Friday night and
- 2:21Speaker 4: Saturday morning. That was one of those losses that when
- 2:24Speaker 4: you wake up in the morning, you're still like, God,
- 2:27Speaker 4: damn it, that sucked. I don't know. So this is
- 2:31Speaker 4: my first game I went to this year. I ended
- 2:34Speaker 4: up getting free tickets, parking pass a lot nineteen. You know,
- 2:38Speaker 4: it was a nice little setup. I don't know, but
- 2:45Speaker 4: the whole game, it felt not the whole game, but
- 2:47Speaker 4: like when it was seventeen seventeen going into the like
- 2:52Speaker 4: basically the fourth quarter. We scored right at the end
- 2:54Speaker 4: of the fourth it just felt like we were the crowd.
- 2:59Speaker 4: It just felt like we were just we were down
- 3:02Speaker 4: twenty is what it felt like. I mean, everyone was
- 3:04Speaker 4: just absolutely just like, oh my gosh, I can't believe interesting.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I don't know if that's how it's I mean, obviously
- 3:12Speaker 4: we've won all of our home games pretty largely, but
- 3:15Speaker 4: it was just heck, it was kind of tough to
- 3:18Speaker 4: get like the crowd was not getting up for like
- 3:21Speaker 4: the defensive stands until basically the ball is about to
- 3:24Speaker 4: be snapped by the time it started to get loud.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Like.
- 3:26Speaker 2: That's fascinating because of what I said from going to
- 3:29Speaker 2: the k State game previous Friday, how the environment just
- 3:34Speaker 2: didn't seem like other games I've been to for two
- 3:36Speaker 2: ranked teams down there even And I do I think
- 3:39Speaker 2: the Friday night impacts that. I think the alcohol impacts it.
- 3:42Speaker 2: There's not as much alcohol drinking there apparently with some
- 3:45Speaker 2: tailgating right deck yep.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But it wasn't like normal.
- 3:49Speaker 4: The scene was dead.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yes, I mean it's Friday, it's workday. That's interesting. You
- 3:53Speaker 2: say that in Austin the game. From watching it on
- 3:57Speaker 2: a TV and just for back around, I was at
- 4:00Speaker 2: my sister's wedding, so we had a couple of TVs
- 4:02Speaker 2: like at the venue, and there were obviously a lot
- 4:04Speaker 2: of people watching it during the reception ceremony. The game
- 4:09Speaker 2: just felt like that, Like it was, you never felt
- 4:12Speaker 2: like we were even when we were head at halftime.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It just I never felt good about it at all.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And so it's true that's the same environment at the stadium.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Yes, because like I was trying to tell people because
- 4:21Speaker 4: I was with four other guys or three other guys,
- 4:23Speaker 4: and I was like, you know, they're a top twenty
- 4:25Speaker 4: five team. It's tied twenty four to twenty four. We
- 4:28Speaker 4: have the ball with four minutes left in this game.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Like we I don't understand why we feel like I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 4: I understand, but it's like we like everyone stayed. I mean,
- 4:40Speaker 4: the stadium was packed the whole game. I have never Okay,
- 4:45Speaker 4: So here's how the end of the game went. You
- 4:48Speaker 4: all know how the overtime went. It was, I mean,
- 4:52Speaker 4: they scored. Stadium just dead silent, totally packed. There's not
- 4:56Speaker 4: anyone saying anything. We get the penalty, go back ten yards.
- 5:02Speaker 4: There's some people yelling at the refs. I forgot how
- 5:05Speaker 4: much of fans are. I didn't realize there's so many
- 5:07Speaker 4: referees in the stands because I mean, it was just
- 5:10Speaker 4: all night was just oh yeah, there was a lot
- 5:14Speaker 4: of repin in the stands. There's but I mean on
- 5:18Speaker 4: that overtime, it was just dead silent the whole time.
- 5:22Speaker 4: And when we got that sack, no one spoke a word.
- 5:25Speaker 4: We all just shuffled out, dead silent, ninety thousand of us.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I then sat in a parking lot for an hour
- 5:31Speaker 4: and a half way to get out, got home at
- 5:32Speaker 4: like two am. It was just a really sad night
- 5:36Speaker 4: and everyone was just crushed. And it felt that way
- 5:39Speaker 4: basically from I honestly the whole game. It felt that way,
- 5:44Speaker 4: even when like because they scored first, right and then we.
- 5:50Speaker 1: From the get go yep, yep, it was it felt
- 5:53Speaker 1: the whole.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Game like we were getting obliterated, even though we had
- 5:56Speaker 4: the lead most of the game.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So let's start out with a positive there, because maybe
- 6:02Speaker 2: maybe that's a decent sign that while it felt like
- 6:05Speaker 2: we were getting killed, maybe you know we're we obviously
- 6:08Speaker 2: we're head a halftime, like had it still have the
- 6:11Speaker 2: chances to win the game, but once again didn't do it.
- 6:14Speaker 1: That's that's happened a lot. Okay, So.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Here's my head's now at. I'm very upset with myself
- 6:29Speaker 2: for what I said on Wednesday and taking that strong
- 6:33Speaker 2: take the one. What was the third the three things?
- 6:37Speaker 2: It was winning a big game turnover battle. Guess what,
- 6:40Speaker 2: we won the turnover battle again two to one, big game.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It was a big game. Didn't win. But the one
- 6:47Speaker 2: score games was a third thing that I convinced myself
- 6:50Speaker 2: before seeing it and getting the proof that we could
- 6:54Speaker 2: do it.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It didn't happen.
- 6:56Speaker 2: And Austin, you made you text this Chasing three, Still
- 6:59Speaker 2: Chasing three. That's the name of the doc documentary that's
- 7:01Speaker 2: out there. There's a reason why that's the name. We're
- 7:03Speaker 2: still doing that. And I I am hurting my hitting
- 7:08Speaker 2: myself and beating myself up because I did get my
- 7:10Speaker 2: mind to that point.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I didn't think that would happen.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I like, I'm not the most optimistic fan, but my
- 7:15Speaker 2: mind was like no, this is like, this is it.
- 7:19Speaker 2: This is the guy rules, the guy. Ryola is the guy.
- 7:22Speaker 2: We have the team. I mean that's not just no,
- 7:26Speaker 2: I know, I know, but I'm usually the last one
- 7:28Speaker 2: to jump on that, like I I. I joined, I
- 7:31Speaker 2: joined with the with everybody into that and thinking that
- 7:34Speaker 2: we had it, could have a nine and two, ten
- 7:36Speaker 2: and two. And now my mind is completely reset back
- 7:40Speaker 2: to let's make a bowl game again. And now Rutger
- 7:42Speaker 2: scares me. Rutger scares me. Now going on the road
- 7:45Speaker 2: to Indiana really scares me. Now Purdue I and we
- 7:48Speaker 2: will talk about them on Wednesday in U. C.
- 7:51Speaker 4: L A.
- 7:52Speaker 2: But my mind is just, oh, it was. It's been
- 7:55Speaker 2: a roller coaster, and I'm mad at myself more than anything,
- 8:00Speaker 2: more than the game. But you're right, like I had
- 8:02Speaker 2: the feeling Saturday night and and then that next morning,
- 8:05Speaker 2: even though had a wedding and had fun, enjoyed it.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And it just it just ate at you. And and
- 8:12Speaker 1: then when you add it.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Was one of those losses where you wake up in
- 8:15Speaker 4: the morning you're like you could just still feel it,
- 8:17Speaker 4: but it's just like, oh my gosh, I can't believe.
- 8:20Speaker 2: You had the hangout post wedding hangover to that too.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Had to had to had to get going again on Saturday,
- 8:29Speaker 2: get myself doing something. Uh it it just hurt and
- 8:34Speaker 2: a lot of the close losses last year, like didn't
- 8:37Speaker 2: hurt like this because coach I just I wasn't buying
- 8:41Speaker 2: into it. I was just like nope, like we don't
- 8:43Speaker 2: win close games. And guess what, we still didn't And
- 8:45Speaker 2: now rules one and six in one score games, which
- 8:48Speaker 2: is as the same, it might even be worse than
- 8:50Speaker 2: Scott Frost as a percentage like it, We're still here.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I will I am going to shout shout out the
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'm gonna find on my phone. There's a really good
- 8:58Speaker 2: graphic and I will end uput hosting it on Twitter
- 9:01Speaker 2: when I post a podcast. It's Stu Mangi as Stu
- 9:05Speaker 2: Manji is the guy that has and I shared it
- 9:08Speaker 2: with you guys. It goes through our last thirty three drives,
- 9:11Speaker 2: which goes back to twenty eighteen of our final offensive
- 9:15Speaker 2: possessions when tighter losing by eight points or less.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So one score games. Guys.
- 9:21Speaker 2: We've had ten different quarterbacks and he put all the
- 9:24Speaker 2: different stats in there. Ten quarterbacks, four offensive coordinators, eleven turnovers,
- 9:30Speaker 2: two and a half staffs. We've got one one win.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We've scored on three of them.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It is God, it's fascinating, Like I don't I'm not
- 9:40Speaker 2: going to the same surprise because we've known this, like
- 9:42Speaker 2: this is just the numbers behind it.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But man, and we feel like you won the uber
- 9:48Speaker 1: battle this time too, Like it's just it.
- 9:52Speaker 4: You returned to the average right statistically over ya, we
- 9:56Speaker 4: just have not turned to the.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Me now, respect where it's due. Illinois looked a lot
- 10:03Speaker 3: better when I thought they were.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Luke Olmyer was.
- 10:06Speaker 3: He looked great.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Okay, I guys talk about this because I have an
- 10:10Speaker 2: opinion on this. Just talk about Illinois for a little
- 10:12Speaker 2: bit so then I can get my stuff out and
- 10:14Speaker 2: going myself.
- 10:15Speaker 3: He might have made the biggest jump on any quarterbank
- 10:17Speaker 3: college football. He was awful and he looked he looked
- 10:21Speaker 3: great last game.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not saying our defense looked incredible, but he
- 10:25Speaker 4: made all the right plays. I mean he was outside
- 10:28Speaker 4: of I mean he fumbled the ball that one time
- 10:31Speaker 4: when he got absolutely drilled in the back. He made
- 10:36Speaker 4: all the right plays. And part of this because our
- 10:39Speaker 4: defense gave him options to make right plays at times.
- 10:43Speaker 4: But like athletically, when he got out of the pocket,
- 10:45Speaker 4: he looked good. He looked good when he moved in
- 10:48Speaker 4: the pocket. I was very impressed.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Anything else positive to say on Illinois, Yeah, I'm good.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Just well coached team. They looked better when I thought that.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's.
- 11:03Speaker 4: It could be better than what we thought, better than
- 11:06Speaker 4: what we thought before going into the year.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I think they're pretty good.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Bila has always done a great job with his teams.
- 11:12Speaker 2: We talked about him in the pre uh pre week good.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I yes, I will give them credit where credit is due.
- 11:21Speaker 2: At the same time, I am sick of hearing after losses, well,
- 11:27Speaker 2: maybe this team's pretty good, maybe this team's are ranking
- 11:30Speaker 2: you know, maybe this team is better than that we've
- 11:33Speaker 2: heard it. Like I'm not saying it's wrong, and I'm
- 11:35Speaker 2: not saying you guys are wrong, but I it just
- 11:38Speaker 2: feels like at this point, it's it's it's what people
- 11:41Speaker 2: are trying out, people are trying to justify it, and
- 11:43Speaker 2: I'm just sick of like, no, just just find a
- 11:45Speaker 2: way to win the damn game, Like, yeah, maybe that
- 11:49Speaker 2: team is okay, but like it I I've heard so
- 11:54Speaker 2: many podcasts already talk about that and saying, well, Illinois
- 11:57Speaker 2: better the best team they they've have been in five
- 11:59Speaker 2: or six years, Like.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You don't know that, nobody knows that.
- 12:02Speaker 2: We don't know that, like, yeah, they played well, like
- 12:05Speaker 2: but they beat us and we don't. Like again, go
- 12:08Speaker 2: back to Colorado. Maybe Colorado is not We don't know that.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Who was a team we lost to or played close
- 12:12Speaker 2: the other couple of years ago, Louisiana Tech, there was
- 12:16Speaker 2: the oh the Georgia Stamil or maybe Georgia Southern drol. No,
- 12:20Speaker 2: maybe they're really good, guys, go back and look at
- 12:23Speaker 2: their records when we get to the end of the year,
- 12:24Speaker 2: and a lot of these teams they don't end up
- 12:26Speaker 2: doing that.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm not saying Illinois won't. Maybe they are.
- 12:30Speaker 2: They could. I hope that they are. But maybe Kansas
- 12:33Speaker 2: is not very good. Maybe they're bad. Like I it's
- 12:37Speaker 2: so hard for me to like hear that. And I'm
- 12:40Speaker 2: not saying it's an excuse, but people are kind of
- 12:42Speaker 2: using that as well.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Maybe Illinois really good.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Why it makes me mad because my mind got me
- 12:49Speaker 2: to saying Illinois, we we are in that same tier
- 12:53Speaker 2: with them in the Big Ten, and I wanted to
- 12:55Speaker 2: beat a team like that in the Big Ten. I
- 12:57Speaker 2: don't did not ever think we were Michigan and Ohio
- 13:01Speaker 2: State Oregon maybe USC throw them in there. Ohio State,
- 13:04Speaker 2: I didn't think we were there, but I kind of
- 13:07Speaker 2: got myself and the media did too.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I got us. I think maybe we are in that
- 13:10Speaker 1: six to eight, six.
- 13:12Speaker 2: To nine and ten range, and that includes Illinois, and
- 13:14Speaker 2: I wanted to beat a team like that. But now
- 13:17Speaker 2: what do you hear? Oh, Illinois is probably a six
- 13:19Speaker 2: or seven. They're probably maybe the six or seventh best
- 13:21Speaker 2: team in the Big Ten. I'm like, damn it, that's
- 13:23Speaker 2: where I want to be though, Like I want to
- 13:25Speaker 2: be that team. I thought we were that team, but
- 13:27Speaker 2: we're not because we didn't beat them, So maybe we're
- 13:31Speaker 2: Luke Omeyer.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Though outside of Luke Omier looking good, it didn't feel
- 13:35Speaker 4: like they were better than us. It felt like we
- 13:37Speaker 4: lost that game.
- 13:38Speaker 2: It was like it felt like it was dead ass
- 13:41Speaker 2: even like yeah, and so maybe that maybe that's the
- 13:44Speaker 2: positive from a mind of looking at it, I just
- 13:46Speaker 2: was thinking that maybe we are there, like maybe we're
- 13:50Speaker 2: back to Purdue and UCLA. You guys are dog shit
- 13:54Speaker 2: and we can roll yet because we're not, We're not
- 13:56Speaker 2: bad anymore, and then we're in that next tier with
- 14:00Speaker 2: in these middle of the pack teams including Iowa Wisconsin.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But now I'm like, nope, Iowa, Wisconsin are better than us,
- 14:06Speaker 2: Like we're the bottom of that next tier of teams.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Where that's the frustrating part where that comes from in
- 14:12Speaker 2: that comment that people are justifying it that way.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I get it. I get that the natural way of
- 14:17Speaker 1: thinking the odds.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It's frustrating because I had my mind at maybe we
- 14:22Speaker 2: could be five or six or seven.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Now in the Big ten, we're not.
- 14:26Speaker 2: So that was that was It's been a big thought
- 14:29Speaker 2: of mine as I as I hear people talk about
- 14:30Speaker 2: the game after the words in the past couple of
- 14:33Speaker 2: days of Illinois looked pretty good and I'm like, yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 2: they did. I mean they had some pieces, they had
- 14:38Speaker 2: some good receivers, a solid running back.
- 14:40Speaker 1: They did, but like, God, can we can we beat
- 14:42Speaker 1: a team like that?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Can we win? Can can we not make the plays
- 14:48Speaker 2: that we need to make? Like you could I could
- 14:50Speaker 2: tell rules it's frost. It got to that point with
- 14:53Speaker 2: everybody it's like, oh, why why does this keep happening?
- 14:56Speaker 2: And if my dad texted me, he said, I don't
- 15:00Speaker 2: think we're fine. You know that we can't keep losing
- 15:02Speaker 2: games like this. I'm eventually we'll flip. And I'm like,
- 15:06Speaker 2: we have said that the past three years we have. Yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 2: and statistically you think it would change, but I don't know.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I don't know anymore. Like that, that's where the emotions come.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I don't I don't want to believe it. I'm not
- 15:19Speaker 2: saying I believe that it's over all hope is lost.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I'm not saying that. But that's the frustration of everything.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And I don't know what people's minds are. Should we
- 15:29Speaker 2: be sad, should we be panicking for rule and staff?
- 15:32Speaker 2: I don't think that's the case. Should we just fold
- 15:34Speaker 2: all of our cards?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Are you know?
- 15:36Speaker 2: Are we at the point though where everybody's making excuses?
- 15:39Speaker 2: I don't hear a lot of them. Like I think
- 15:41Speaker 2: people know we lost the game again and here's why,
- 15:44Speaker 2: and you can list the reasons. Do we just pout
- 15:47Speaker 2: and just say stupid Husker football sucks. I don't know
- 15:50Speaker 2: how people should react. I guess that's up to the
- 15:52Speaker 2: individuals on how to respond to a game like this,
- 15:55Speaker 2: But like I think the best response if people want
- 15:58Speaker 2: to go watch it, go watch will come then.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I believe it was.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I think yesterday morning he woke up and talked about
- 16:04Speaker 2: you know, sun Rose and basically explain that we could
- 16:11Speaker 2: go pout and soulk and he's kind of messaging to
- 16:13Speaker 2: the players, But no, like this is now like uses
- 16:15Speaker 2: as an opportunity. The season is early, it's young, Go grind,
- 16:19Speaker 2: learn from what you did wrong, be hard on yourself,
- 16:22Speaker 2: get up, work even harder the next day, like basically
- 16:24Speaker 2: trying to, you know, coach him that way. I still
- 16:26Speaker 2: believe that's what the staff is doing too. I think
- 16:28Speaker 2: they're a going to have a bitch week of practice
- 16:32Speaker 2: and I believe that Purdue is a great game to
- 16:36Speaker 2: have to go back and prove yourself and where you're
- 16:39Speaker 2: actually at because guys, guys, we're going to be defeated.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Our players will be defeated after that because you do
- 16:44Speaker 2: have a sense of confidence and we're moving and then
- 16:49Speaker 2: you take it. You think you can beat a team
- 16:51Speaker 2: like Illinois, and then they get you in a game
- 16:53Speaker 2: that just felt like you said, you had a bad
- 16:55Speaker 2: taste in your mouth the whole time. They just did
- 16:58Speaker 2: everything a little bit better than us, a little bit better.
- 17:01Speaker 2: It wasn't like they blew us out of the water
- 17:04Speaker 2: and dominated us with the line of scrimmage. They did
- 17:06Speaker 2: beat us the line of scrimmage. I will say that
- 17:09Speaker 2: but it was just a little bit better their quarterback.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Now we'll talk about Royola made just just enough throws.
- 17:15Speaker 2: He threw a couple of picks, made just enough throws.
- 17:17Speaker 2: They got just enough stops when they needed to, and
- 17:20Speaker 2: that's what led to the winning. So, like, that's my
- 17:23Speaker 2: last thing I'll say here is that winning never comes
- 17:26Speaker 2: down to one to two to three plays. You can
- 17:29Speaker 2: you can say that all you want. It comes down
- 17:31Speaker 2: to a billion little things throughout the course of a game.
- 17:34Speaker 2: And unfortunately, when all those things stack up and add up,
- 17:38Speaker 2: that's how the outcome matters.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And the late game situation stuff.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You can go through and chart those and that that's great,
- 17:44Speaker 2: but there are a lot of things that lay out
- 17:46Speaker 2: let up to that, and if you do it differently,
- 17:48Speaker 2: you win that game.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You overlook that.
- 17:52Speaker 2: When you come off three wins and you win, you stop,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you stop stop nitpicking. Just if we would have won
- 17:58Speaker 2: an overtime on Friday, we would not We would not
- 18:03Speaker 2: be sitting here nitpicking a lot of little things about
- 18:07Speaker 2: the game since we lost.
- 18:08Speaker 1: That's what we do. So that's what makes it.
- 18:10Speaker 2: That's what separates a good from a great coaching staff
- 18:12Speaker 2: in a program is to be able to identify that
- 18:14Speaker 2: and learn from it and build on it without losing.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Now we didn't do that. I still have faith and rule.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I still think it's gonna be. It's not over, and
- 18:23Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's going there at all. But I
- 18:27Speaker 2: just think there's a little sense of that in me
- 18:30Speaker 2: right now as we move on to Purdue this week.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm not making excuses, but I was surprised
- 18:40Speaker 4: at how impacted by injuries we were in, Like Alvano's injury,
- 18:44Speaker 4: our special teams only smokes a backup or sucks you know,
- 18:50Speaker 4: I mean you, I mean, Eve, it's the field goal.
- 18:53Speaker 4: But then even on the kickoffs, it was like, I
- 18:55Speaker 4: mean because Bikini is doing the kickoffs and they was like,
- 18:58Speaker 4: oh man, they were returning. I don't know if it
- 19:01Speaker 4: was where the ball was being placed or what, or timing,
- 19:03Speaker 4: but all the special teams was not good in the
- 19:09Speaker 4: missfield goal.
- 19:10Speaker 2: What killed I hate saying this. People call him a
- 19:14Speaker 2: backup kicker. He's not a backup kicker because he's still
- 19:16Speaker 2: listed as an or. I get it, he's not the
- 19:17Speaker 2: one that normally kicks field goals, but neither one. I
- 19:21Speaker 2: don't I don't trust Albano making that either like at all.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I honestly, if rule had gone for it on fourth
- 19:28Speaker 4: and three, I would have felt like I totally understand
- 19:31Speaker 4: the field.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Will Did that cross your mind at all in the moment.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Yes it did.
- 19:35Speaker 2: There was weird it didn't for me now yeah, it
- 19:38Speaker 2: was just there was other influences there, But it didn't
- 19:41Speaker 2: even cross my mind. I just got kick it, like,
- 19:43Speaker 2: and I knew we had a backup kicker. And then
- 19:46Speaker 2: as we're getting lined up, I'm like, he's not making this, like.
- 19:49Speaker 4: That's what happened. Like I mean honestly, I was like, no,
- 19:52Speaker 4: you have to kick it here. But like when we
- 19:55Speaker 4: when it was third and three, I was like, honestly,
- 19:58Speaker 4: I think I'd run the ball here and go over
- 20:00Speaker 4: when we passed it and didn't get the you know.
- 20:03Speaker 1: We had him he had. I mean, Rayola played a oh.
- 20:07Speaker 4: When we missed when we missed that passes like okay,
- 20:09Speaker 4: like I get it.
- 20:12Speaker 2: He knew it. He sat there for so long like
- 20:14Speaker 2: new like oh he was so open and and re
- 20:16Speaker 2: all talked about that play too. That's not even like
- 20:18Speaker 2: a read of the play, Like Riola just has the
- 20:21Speaker 2: vision to identify that Oh, my gosh, yeah, guys, it's
- 20:27Speaker 2: for the field goal thing is it's ridiculous at this
- 20:30Speaker 2: point and we've talked about it at Lanks for a
- 20:33Speaker 2: few years now sucks like I do. I'm like, because
- 20:37Speaker 2: if you go for it on fourth and three you
- 20:39Speaker 2: don't get it, then you go, oh my god.
- 20:41Speaker 1: We're a Big ten.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Program that is trying to be, you know, a top
- 20:46Speaker 2: half of the Big ten team and we can't even
- 20:48Speaker 2: kick a thirty nine yarder and make it.
- 20:50Speaker 1: But we can't. Like it wasn't even close though that thing.
- 20:54Speaker 2: And in the laces we turned wrong heard that, like
- 20:57Speaker 2: it's obviously not all on the kicker at times. Sometimes
- 20:59Speaker 2: it is, God damn it, Like how is that not
- 21:04Speaker 2: even It's another one of those things just puzzling, like
- 21:07Speaker 2: you would think at some point it's gonna flip, like
- 21:09Speaker 2: we can't we can't find any kicker to go do that,
- 21:13Speaker 2: Like there's.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Only so many starting kicker spots in the country, like
- 21:16Speaker 4: and there's every high school football team has a kicker, Like.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Come on, gosh, like that. It's so puzzling to me.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And I mean, the kicking game was a big special teams.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of other little things. But
- 21:28Speaker 2: like I heard someone made the comment maybe it's an
- 21:30Speaker 2: Ed Foley problem, Like well maybe, like we've we've talked
- 21:35Speaker 2: about all the coaches and and the change changes that
- 21:38Speaker 2: we need to do there. I don't know, Like I like,
- 21:40Speaker 2: what do you do coaching that position? Like it just
- 21:42Speaker 2: leasy speeches.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Well, we felt we were a little bit approved improved
- 21:47Speaker 4: so far this year on special teams. We've talked about it,
- 21:50Speaker 4: like I feel like the return game has been better,
- 21:53Speaker 4: the punts have seemed better. Just this game, you you
- 21:59Speaker 4: could see the absence of Alvano honestly, not that he
- 22:02Speaker 4: would have hit that.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Thirty eight years maybe, I mean maybe.
- 22:06Speaker 4: But it was the kickoffs. Even the kickoffs. It's like
- 22:09Speaker 4: the first couple of like he was getting into like
- 22:12Speaker 4: the ten yard line and they were returning it for
- 22:14Speaker 4: twenty It's like, okay, guys, like what are we Mike,
- 22:18Speaker 4: can't we just kick it through? And why are we
- 22:21Speaker 4: not able to tackle on special teams all of a sudden?
- 22:25Speaker 4: And the other injury that I mean Corcoran gotcha is
- 22:30Speaker 4: getting just obliterated at the end of the game.
- 22:34Speaker 2: So yeah, thanks thanks of bringing that up. Yeah, Tommy
- 22:38Speaker 2: Hill goes down. Now, Tommy Hill gives up the first touchdown,
- 22:41Speaker 2: gets burned, but then goes down. It actually does. I
- 22:43Speaker 2: think it's Planner fasci itis is what we've heard. Like,
- 22:46Speaker 2: that's not gonna be as.
- 22:48Speaker 1: That's not a click.
- 22:49Speaker 2: No they get that's stayed with you. That sucks, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: then corkorand goes down. I haven't heard you guys heard,
- 22:55Speaker 2: I haven't heard details. I haven't either gun or Gatula
- 22:58Speaker 2: comes in. We've talked about our offensive Mike Mazuka throughout
- 23:02Speaker 2: the week. Maybe we'll play. Maybe you want personal issues,
- 23:05Speaker 2: we don't know, Maybe argument with a coach, don't know
- 23:07Speaker 2: what's going on, doesn't end up playing.
- 23:09Speaker 1: All of a sudden, our offensive line looks very thin.
- 23:15Speaker 1: The injuries. Tommy Hill injury.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I actually thought his backup came in for blanking on
- 23:20Speaker 2: his name right now, but actually came in, did a
- 23:21Speaker 2: solid job. We'll talk about our defense here in a second.
- 23:24Speaker 2: The offensive line, like right now, guys, there are there's
- 23:28Speaker 2: deer in the headlights right now going on for me,
- 23:32Speaker 2: And we kind of started brushing off and maybe felt
- 23:34Speaker 2: okay about our offensive line again, and then now a
- 23:37Speaker 2: couple of injuries happen and you start looking at depth,
- 23:39Speaker 2: and you start looking at the type of players that
- 23:41Speaker 2: you want on the offensive line, and then the impact
- 23:43Speaker 2: it has in all parts of your game. We just
- 23:46Speaker 2: get reminded of it again. Just got to keep that
- 23:50Speaker 2: on the forefront of how important an offensive line is
- 23:54Speaker 2: for passing the ball, pass protection, obviously running the run game.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It's the core.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And I thought we got beat there, very handled both
- 24:05Speaker 2: both sides, but offensive line, we just couldn't get a
- 24:07Speaker 2: run game going.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Rushing yards.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I don't know if it was in the seventies too,
- 24:16Speaker 2: but sacks.
- 24:18Speaker 3: The worst line, the worst pot back upends line is
- 24:22Speaker 3: it went to ship when you need it most, over
- 24:24Speaker 3: time and towards the end.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Of the game. And it, yeah, like over time, Ryola
- 24:31Speaker 2: got pressured and I don't think, I mean whatever the
- 24:35Speaker 2: reason was tired, fatigue, physicality just wore on us.
- 24:38Speaker 1: He did, and he did.
- 24:38Speaker 2: He ran backwards and looked like Dak playing NCAA twenty five,
- 24:42Speaker 2: like when he gets pressured, just starts running backwards and
- 24:46Speaker 2: either get sacked or you know, tries to throw it
- 24:49Speaker 2: away or got intensional grounding like combinations, offensive line, quarterback
- 24:53Speaker 2: whatever there. But it if you can't establish a run
- 24:57Speaker 2: game and get complimentary football going. That word comes back
- 25:00Speaker 2: and back as rules used it. That's what it looks like.
- 25:04Speaker 1: And I don't know.
- 25:07Speaker 2: We've talked about what is our identity, our theme, what
- 25:11Speaker 2: are we trying to do on offense this year? Last
- 25:13Speaker 2: year we knew, we knew, I mean, it was very
- 25:15Speaker 2: one dimensional because our quarterbacks were very limited. Like where
- 25:20Speaker 2: are we going moving forward with this offense? Like, I
- 25:23Speaker 2: don't know, And maybe we don't have to know right
- 25:24Speaker 2: now that that's where my head's out.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I don't know that it's needed yet.
- 25:29Speaker 2: But by the time we hit three or four weeks
- 25:32Speaker 2: from now, coming off that bye week, I think we
- 25:34Speaker 2: need to know what our identity is, how much of
- 25:39Speaker 2: the run game is, how important is that to winning
- 25:42Speaker 2: football games. I think it's very like I think it's
- 25:45Speaker 2: at most high importance.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But the challenge with that is who we got at quarterback?
- 25:52Speaker 2: And I guess any more talk on the offensive line
- 25:56Speaker 2: because I'm switching gears.
- 25:58Speaker 4: No, just that they were getting beat. Corcoran was much more.
- 26:02Speaker 4: I mean, we knew it was gonna be thin, but
- 26:04Speaker 4: I mean it was very obvious that he was not
- 26:06Speaker 4: out there.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I go ahead, I think.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I mean it's pretty obvious. But the the main reason
- 26:14Speaker 3: why guys lost is because of the two lines. I
- 26:16Speaker 3: don't think your D line played that great either.
- 26:20Speaker 1: No, I agree.
- 26:22Speaker 2: I want to stick on offense here and then we
- 26:24Speaker 2: can go jump on defense because I think there's a
- 26:26Speaker 2: talking point there too.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Guys, can we talk about right Oliver A second?
- 26:33Speaker 2: This guy is as we knew, but like he is legit.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I mean that's where I struggle, Like, yes, I really do,
- 26:42Speaker 2: like I believe it that you need to have a
- 26:43Speaker 2: run game first before you start going to extra step.
- 26:46Speaker 2: But he's he has the potential of being a lot
- 26:49Speaker 2: better than a field general that we initially kind of
- 26:52Speaker 2: thought that he we needed him to be.
- 26:54Speaker 4: I mean he's touchdown and the interception I mean obviously
- 27:00Speaker 4: a fluke play, but the ball placement on the interception
- 27:04Speaker 4: and on the actual touchdown Jamal Banks drakes his toe
- 27:07Speaker 4: like wow.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And both interceptions that's happened, I mean another gain fluke thing,
- 27:15Speaker 2: unlucky snake bit and whatever you want.
- 27:17Speaker 1: To call it.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I mean, you gotta gotta find a way to secure
- 27:21Speaker 2: that that's not on obviously the quarterback. There's interceptions that
- 27:24Speaker 2: you can watch and clearly it's a bad thrower. About
- 27:27Speaker 2: to read those were not and yeah, you mentioned a
- 27:30Speaker 2: couple of them, but how I mean, just watching that
- 27:34Speaker 2: second half, especially how many balls did he just dropped
- 27:37Speaker 2: dimes in places.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I mean awkward.
- 27:39Speaker 2: We talk about his hip and torque and awkward positions
- 27:43Speaker 2: that he throws. I mean, good god it, guys, it's impressive.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And I say that all as that's what puzzles me
- 27:53Speaker 2: with our offense. I think Saderfield is doing a pretty
- 27:56Speaker 2: damn good job right now of trying to put the
- 27:59Speaker 2: pas together and figure out where we're at. We need
- 28:03Speaker 2: to have that set in stone though here in two
- 28:05Speaker 2: or three weeks. I mean, sometimes you just go to
- 28:09Speaker 2: your you go to your ball, or you go to
- 28:10Speaker 2: your player and say, nope, this is where we're going,
- 28:12Speaker 2: and that maybe the direction we're heading. I don't I
- 28:15Speaker 2: don't know how I feel about that. But he's he's
- 28:17Speaker 2: legit and he's good and we've seen a couple of mistakes.
- 28:19Speaker 4: But like so, he had a couple of freshman moments
- 28:22Speaker 4: there the fourth quarter and over when he fumbled it
- 28:24Speaker 4: twice in a row.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Mm hmmm.
- 28:26Speaker 4: We recovered him, but it's like, Okay.
- 28:30Speaker 2: There's some and and there's gonna be some and but
- 28:33Speaker 2: the amount of unbelievable type of throws that he was making, Oh, man,
- 28:38Speaker 2: like it.
- 28:39Speaker 1: We have something special now.
- 28:41Speaker 2: The one thing that I don't like is his lack
- 28:43Speaker 2: of ability to maybe run that. I thought maybe he
- 28:46Speaker 2: had a little bit more in him and maybe Illinois
- 28:49Speaker 2: did scheme up a good plan.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well I don't know if he does. I mean it's
- 28:56Speaker 1: like laugh like Mahomes.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Like Mahomes doesn't want to run either, but when needed
- 29:00Speaker 2: he can escape and run with all yards.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I think he needs to be a little more loose
- 29:07Speaker 4: with like, Okay, I'm gonna just gonna run and see
- 29:09Speaker 4: how far I get. But I understand I don't want
- 29:10Speaker 4: to get hurt, so I'm fine with it. I'd rather him,
- 29:14Speaker 4: you know, make it back to the minus scrimmage and
- 29:17Speaker 4: get sacked, then run and get hurt for four yards.
- 29:21Speaker 3: But the main thing is when he goes back to past,
- 29:24Speaker 3: you're not like the last couple of years where you're like, oh,
- 29:27Speaker 3: this can't terribly.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Right and terribly He's usually able to get it out
- 29:32Speaker 4: of bounds or grounding or something.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll say to shout out this evening. Maybe you
- 29:39Speaker 2: guys haven't even seen it because it was last couple
- 29:41Speaker 2: of hours Dayton Riola did commit today.
- 29:44Speaker 4: I did see that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's good. It keeps it on.
- 29:47Speaker 2: I haven't watched him as much, and I don't think
- 29:50Speaker 2: anything he's a three star, right, I.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Don't think he's like he's going.
- 29:54Speaker 2: But at the same time, it is cool to that
- 29:56Speaker 2: gives me a little a little bit of confirmation of
- 30:00Speaker 2: maybe where the family's at on Nebraska, because here was
- 30:02Speaker 2: my initial before this all happened, my initial my thought
- 30:05Speaker 2: around Dylan I got I get scared, and I've talked
- 30:07Speaker 2: about this. I don't know where braill Is mind will
- 30:11Speaker 2: be at the end of the year, pending how the
- 30:12Speaker 2: year goes. This game, he played pretty damn well, and
- 30:17Speaker 2: he's gonna beat himself up about the one throw. But
- 30:19Speaker 2: if we end up going seven and five and lose
- 30:22Speaker 2: one score games and he plays well in all of them,
- 30:25Speaker 2: where do you think his head's gonna be at? Like, yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 2: as a good teammate. But at the same time, when
- 30:30Speaker 2: you're getting paid that much money, if he's not the
- 30:33Speaker 2: problem and there's other areas that are the problem, and
- 30:37Speaker 2: if he doesn't have confidence, you know, through the coaching
- 30:39Speaker 2: staff and what he's getting told.
- 30:41Speaker 1: If he doesn't have the confidence that those can get fixed.
- 30:43Speaker 2: He has the talent and ability to go easily transfer
- 30:46Speaker 2: and start at a big school. Like he's proving that
- 30:49Speaker 2: and showing that. I'm not I'm putting that out as
- 30:51Speaker 2: a feeler right now. I don't think that's going to happen,
- 30:54Speaker 2: especially with Dayton committing now. I like that eases me
- 30:57Speaker 2: a lot, but I we have to appreciate what we
- 31:00Speaker 2: have with him.
- 31:01Speaker 1: We do.
- 31:01Speaker 2: We have to appreciate it because he is special and
- 31:06Speaker 2: if other things don't piece together around him, he's been
- 31:09Speaker 2: the one constant we've had this year that has been solid.
- 31:14Speaker 2: We thought our defense maybe was that let's switch to
- 31:16Speaker 2: talk about them here for a little bit.
- 31:19Speaker 1: We got exposed and out coached.
- 31:23Speaker 2: We thought Tony White, you know, we talked about how
- 31:25Speaker 2: he's I said, he's gone after this year because someone
- 31:28Speaker 2: else is grabbing him and we won't be able to
- 31:31Speaker 2: afford keeping him here. This was light bulb number one
- 31:35Speaker 2: or exclamation point number one that went off of Okay,
- 31:39Speaker 2: how are we going to you know, what are we
- 31:41Speaker 2: gonna do moving forward? Because we did, we got out
- 31:42Speaker 2: schemed and coached. My big take on the defense, and Dak,
- 31:45Speaker 2: you talked about it with the defensive line. I'll let
- 31:48Speaker 2: you go here in a second. I think we were
- 31:51Speaker 2: confident that those guys were better than they were, and
- 31:54Speaker 2: we trusted those guys to get pressure on passing downs
- 31:57Speaker 2: and to clog up the run game and not get moved.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Our backer's going to make tackles in our base defense,
- 32:02Speaker 2: and we did not get too exotic and creative. That
- 32:06Speaker 2: was a concern going in, is how creative we were
- 32:08Speaker 2: going to be. We felt good about how good they were,
- 32:11Speaker 2: and we got exposed, and over the course of a
- 32:13Speaker 2: game against a very physical team, not so much ground
- 32:16Speaker 2: and pounds, still spread running, they beat our defensive line
- 32:21Speaker 2: or our front seven, and the run game complimented the
- 32:24Speaker 2: pass game, and it resulted in Illinois beating us. That's
- 32:28Speaker 2: the bottom line I think of what happened, and there's
- 32:30Speaker 2: a lot of little other things, But Dak, like, what
- 32:33Speaker 2: else did you see on the defensive side.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Like you said, you just got out coached.
- 32:39Speaker 4: I thought it.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I don't know if you guys were blitzing that much
- 32:45Speaker 3: or what, but I just feel like you could not
- 32:47Speaker 3: get any pressure. Almeyer had all day to pick your part,
- 32:50Speaker 3: and I guess he's good enough now that you can't
- 32:52Speaker 3: let him have time do that.
- 32:53Speaker 4: And that middle of the field was just killer.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Yes, I wouldn't say you're defense played awful but expected
- 33:04Speaker 3: to be better.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Yes, I agree they for they did force the fumble wing,
- 33:09Speaker 4: it's like, we need a turnover now like this, like
- 33:15Speaker 4: you guys have not not that they haven't held up
- 33:17Speaker 4: there end of the deal, but it's like, all right,
- 33:19Speaker 4: we need to turn on. And then they immediately got one.
- 33:21Speaker 4: So I mean like they did win the turnover battle,
- 33:25Speaker 4: but they did get beat.
- 33:29Speaker 2: We didn't get we didn't get demolished. But again, it
- 33:33Speaker 2: was that much better. It's all it took. And like
- 33:37Speaker 2: you said that, that was the whole feeling, like going
- 33:40Speaker 2: big picture back to the beginning, that was the whole
- 33:42Speaker 2: feeling of just unease the entire game. From that first
- 33:45Speaker 2: drive when they go out to score methodic.
- 33:49Speaker 4: It's like, oh, we might not be able to stop this.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It was and I don't even know that I my
- 33:53Speaker 2: mind went to not be able to stop it. It
- 33:54Speaker 2: was like huh, like they just slowly put together a
- 34:00Speaker 2: drive and then my mind like, okay, that's just the
- 34:01Speaker 2: first drive because they had it, you know, uh planned.
- 34:05Speaker 1: They had their script for the first drive. I'm like that,
- 34:08Speaker 1: that's what that was.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Like, that's okay, But I was like what And then
- 34:10Speaker 2: the rest of the game, even though they didn't score,
- 34:12Speaker 2: because our defense did kind of then come through a
- 34:13Speaker 2: couple of times, they just seemed to, you know, four yardsier,
- 34:17Speaker 2: seven yards heer, Oh there's the quick seven yard out.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Oh seven yard out again?
- 34:21Speaker 2: Oh, play action flat like it was just slow and methodical,
- 34:25Speaker 2: and over time Brett Beelima's type teams, the old Wisconsin
- 34:29Speaker 2: teams and the similar type of concept that we see
- 34:33Speaker 2: from a lot of Big ten teams. It wears anya
- 34:35Speaker 2: if you're not used to playing it. And who have
- 34:37Speaker 2: we played so far this year? Two teams that couldn't
- 34:40Speaker 2: run the ball at all and spread it out, and
- 34:42Speaker 2: then a team that couldn't throw the ball at all
- 34:45Speaker 2: that just could run it. And now he faced the
- 34:47Speaker 2: team that was pretty good at both not not phenomenal,
- 34:51Speaker 2: They just were okay, and we weren't ready for it.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Now.
- 34:54Speaker 2: It wasn't Scott Frost level where we prepared for the
- 34:56Speaker 2: wrong front and identified the wrong front. It wasn't like
- 35:00Speaker 2: like that but just a little bit more and that's
- 35:03Speaker 2: what got him to win. And a getting credit to Illinois, like,
- 35:06Speaker 2: I think that is a solid football team, but I
- 35:08Speaker 2: don't want to say Illinois is gonna go nine to
- 35:11Speaker 2: three and and you know they're not. They're just in
- 35:15Speaker 2: that next tier with us, and god damn it, I
- 35:18Speaker 2: thought we could beat them.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it just was we cannot get them the stops
- 35:24Speaker 4: we needed to get the stops outside of getting the turnover.
- 35:27Speaker 4: We needed the turnover, but we were in position to
- 35:31Speaker 4: win the game and we didn't. Offense and defense like
- 35:36Speaker 4: that last drive before punting and going overtime, we needed
- 35:40Speaker 4: a turnover. Defense, they got it. We need the offense
- 35:43Speaker 4: to move down the field put us in position for
- 35:44Speaker 4: particular lead. Did that we missed the fucking field goal? Now?
- 35:50Speaker 3: What were the refs in the stands staying about that
- 35:54Speaker 3: at the end of the game.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Oh, the miss call?
- 35:58Speaker 3: People wanted to nuts. What did you guys think that
- 36:03Speaker 3: should have been flagged?
- 36:04Speaker 4: Uh? Probably, but not being flagged. It's fine that it
- 36:10Speaker 4: wasn't egregious.
- 36:11Speaker 1: It was definitely it definitely could have. But you know
- 36:15Speaker 1: where our mind's going. I'm like, I don't think we looked.
- 36:19Speaker 2: We looked like a dead duck out there, like if
- 36:21Speaker 2: we got the first down, okay, great now, It's basically
- 36:23Speaker 2: it would have been like restarting overtime, we would have
- 36:25Speaker 2: a ball about the twenty two yard line first, like
- 36:29Speaker 2: still having to score a touchdown.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Guys, are our overtime performances. It's just oh my god.
- 36:33Speaker 2: It's like I my mind went into that when we
- 36:37Speaker 2: got to overtime because our defense gotta stop at the
- 36:39Speaker 2: end of regulation. I'm like, okay, good, Like we've been
- 36:42Speaker 2: so bad and overtime, Like we're gonna win one in
- 36:45Speaker 2: overtime because we can. We have done nothing in overtime
- 36:47Speaker 2: in the past year, however many years, so we're gonna
- 36:50Speaker 2: get one, Like we can't. It can't happen again, right,
- 36:53Speaker 2: And then what do you know? Twenty three yard run touchdown.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I'm like, oh god, here we go.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And then sack sack sack. Oh that'll be kidding me.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Like it it was almost like after that big run,
- 37:08Speaker 2: we're like, nope, never mind, like we're not winning. It's
- 37:11Speaker 2: not happening, and everybody just knew it and the players
- 37:13Speaker 2: knew it, and here we go and over and and
- 37:15Speaker 2: that that that is the winning mindset that this coaching
- 37:18Speaker 2: staff is tasked with flipping. I mean, that's that's their
- 37:22Speaker 2: bottom line, disregard everything else. We said tonight, that is
- 37:26Speaker 2: the number one thing is the coaching staff has to
- 37:28Speaker 2: figure out how to get the winning culture back in
- 37:30Speaker 2: Nebraska so we win games like this, and rule said
- 37:34Speaker 2: we're a winning team. We said, maybe that was pre
- 37:37Speaker 2: jumping the gun a little bit, might have been. So
- 37:41Speaker 2: we have that. They have to figure that out to
- 37:43Speaker 2: win games. And we're gonna have an opportunity Saturday and
- 37:45Speaker 2: the next three Saturdays for Saturdays to do that against
- 37:48Speaker 2: teams that are in our tier or below us. And
- 37:50Speaker 2: we have to find a way to do that.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, those I don't know. So after you say
- 38:03Speaker 3: Illinois scored too, yeah, it just seemed like the team's
- 38:05Speaker 3: just like, well, this is the game over. Yeah, big,
- 38:08Speaker 3: Your offense posession was quick and done. It was like
- 38:12Speaker 3: you don't know about a here.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I'm out of thoughts, out of time for now, it's late.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Any last words. Shout out Lady Oscars. I'll do my
- 38:21Speaker 2: shout out for them tonight.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Lady Huskers. Shoutout of Fred Hoiberg, who I stood behind
- 38:25Speaker 4: waiting to get to the stadium, taller than I expected.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Go Fred, go big Fred. All right, go Bigred. We'll
- 38:31Speaker 1: see you Wednesday.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Give you are boomer sooner
