- 0:00[rock music] Devil Punch is your ride! Hey, everybody.
- 0:17It's Full Spectrum Cycling. This is actually show number 300. Hey, hey. Hey, hey. I wa- I wanted a horn, like one of those [horn sound] things, but, uh- This is Full Spectrum.
- 0:29I can't believe there's so much going on around, uh, the, the, like, planning and making event things that we didn't even get the 300 thing going yet. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:42A lot of life is happening, coming in- Yeah... from different angles and different ways and whatever. Absolutely. Hey, right now we got JK over there wearing the Steel is Real, uh, 2024-ish ChatGTP.
- 0:55That was a DALL-E one- Yeah... with some manipulation after the fact to actually get Steel is Real to be- Just the finger's fucked up... spelled. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
- 1:05And just like a lot of them, the, the drive train's on the wrong side. And then 20- yeah, the 2024 Oh, nice. I love that part. Well, I- You are. I forgot about that... you did. That was- MKE. Oh, the MKE.
- 1:14That was- That was... You had to put it on there yourself with a- It's not on the wrong- With a Sharpie. It's not on the wrong side, it's just a lefty. A lefty. Uh- Lefty wristy... that's Tony over there. Right.
- 1:22We'll, we'll talk about Tony later. And then we have, uh, An- [laughs] We have Andrew Zahn, uh, River West 24's and or River West's own Andrew Zahn. The 24 portion is just a small part of your otherwise River Westy life.
- 1:36Yeah. Right on. So, uh, you know, there was some pretty cool stuff this weekend in River West. The Kombuster show and Swivels at Linneman's at 2:00 PM on a Sunday matinee show. Yeah.
- 1:50That's, that's just right up my alley. It is. Perfect. Such up my alley. So- So- You got home in time for bed... well, and the best part is I sent a picture to Strongman Sam, and I'm like, "Yeah, check out this.
- 2:02I'm the youngest person at this show." [laughs] And I realized later after I looked at the picture that the guy that I took that's in the back- I think the bartender was younger than you... he, he has...
- 2:09Well, that was true- [laughs]... but she's getting paid. [laughs] Um, y- I, as I look at the picture of them on stage, I realize the guy that's watching the show has a hearing aid in.
- 2:21[laughs] I'm like, "I'm seriously the youngest person at this show." [laughs] Maybe it was just a, uh, one of those things where they, you know, so that you don't go deaf. I don't think so. No.
- 2:30No, this guy- It wasn't, it wasn't... You know what? Is it a cochlear implant? I think be- It's definitely not a cochlear implant. [laughs] I think because those guys are old- I'll give that guy a-...
- 2:37they recognize that they can't be, you know, 108 or 10 decibels anymore. I'll give, I'll give that guy a pass, not the dude that was watching the golf. [laughs] The guy was watching golf. Yeah. Drinking an Odoul's.
- 2:49It wasn't even the ma- What the... Oh, that's right. He was drinking Odoul's. It wasn't even the master of- I was waiting, I was waiting for the third domino to drop- Yeah...
- 2:55because I know they're th- everything in threes. I mean, there, there was something that happened- How, why was he there?... that I didn't see. Of all the NAs to drink, like, there are some amazing NAs out there.
- 3:04To Odoul's- Yeah, you are, you are-... that is old school. Yeah. Hei- Heineken NA Odoul's. You're going down low. Why would you even bother with those? Again, though, I was one of the youngest people there.
- 3:14He's probably been drinking Odoul's for long enough to think it's good. [laughs] Mm-hmm. Especially that amber. Mm. [laughs] Oh, man. So yeah, good show.
- 3:25Uh, Orange, uh, we should listen to that after the show, at least a little bit of it. Mm-hmm. You'll, you'll understand why you should probably grab one of those. Yeah. It's, it's their vinyl. Is it at a shop somewhere?
- 3:34I- it's probably at, uh- Or just get it on the website... it's probably at, at, uh, at- At All Your Fine-... Bill, Bill's, at Bill's shop... at Rushmore, Liliput- Rushmore. Yeah. Okay... Bye Bye Records.
- 3:42What, uh, what about the place next to that that we call- Saturday is Record Store Day, so- Oh, that's right... that could be your- Ooh, that's a good purchase Record Store Day-wise.
- 3:50I want to get, uh- It was, it was, uh, it was 20- Oh, I'm getting Bob Mould's too... it was 20 at the venue. I don't know how much it is at Record Store Day. Wait, it was 20? 20. I thought you said it was 30. No, 20.
- 3:59Man. 20. Please come share with me. I just didn't have a way to get it home. And it's, like, very heavy vinyl. It's not one of those- I should've- Wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa...
- 4:04you were, I should've bought one and had you take it home. I'm an idiot. Uh, Von Munz is spinning 7:00 AM at Liliput on Saturday, Record Store Day. Ooh. Oh, nice. There's a bunch of- 7:00 AM. I can pull that off...
- 4:13there's a bunch of heckling, and they probably have Kombuster there. Yeah. Kombuster, I, that's- A bunch of- I saw, I saw him play there bef- For frick's sake. Okay. For frick's sakes.
- 4:22This will be the last time, and I'm doing my best. You can go to that and still get your Blue Plate. Yeah. Yeah. At, at, uh, Miss Katie's Diner maybe. You know, Blue Plate for the old, old people like you. Yeah.
- 4:32I'm okay without that. Oh, Miss Katie's is- But I would like to buy some vinyl. I want to get Bob Mould's new album. Good call. Here We Go Crazy. Here we go. Here we go. So speaking of, uh- Crazy...
- 4:42speaking of days, Record Store Day Saturday, 414 Day is Monday. Monday. Monday, Monday, Monday. I don't know what that means exactly, but it- We're celebrating-... it is 414 Day on Monday... our area code.
- 4:53At UWM they get- Well, yes, I get that part, but what, what else? Well, you said you don't get it... at UWM they get donations. Oh. The, uh, I know this because I help support that, but, um, not that I donate.
- 5:03Love yeah, I don't do that. [laughs] You donate your time. It's funny, I, I just put this together. So work for UWM, they ask for donations. I say no. WMSC asks for donations, I'm like, "Well, yeah, hell yeah."
- 5:17Of course. "Here's a check." Are you talking about the radio station at UWM? No, I'm talking about U- Or just UWM in general? No. Oh, you're right. WUWM is a, is an NPR station, so- Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:27You'll get- We donate to them too, so technically they get a pinch. You'll at least get a tote out of that. Yeah. You know? Yeah. So did we say- But I- We did say Andrew Zahn's here, right? Yes. Yeah. Oh, good.
- 5:37Yeah, we did. Okay. Good. Uh, also- I got around the introduction... while we're, while we're going through 414 Day and everything- We're just, yeah, we're circling the bowl. Yeah.
- 5:44[laughs] Uh, WMSC pledge drive starts M- uh, Friday. Friday. Oh, okay. Friday. Yeah. It seems like it just ended. Get ready s- for some matching donations, people. Seems like it just ended last fall.
- 5:53Blood, blood drive or money drive? Money donation dri- uh, donation. My blood. [laughs] Yeah, sorry. Yeah. [laughs] Tony's gonna match- There's a difference... the blood drive.
- 6:00If, if we give 100 pints, he's gonna do 100 pints. You have no idea how deathly afraid of needles I am. Molly gave blood this week. Just don't look. Good job, hon. Oh, no, no. That's- Oh, Molly's an American hero.
- 6:09Yeah, she is. Awesome. Uh- I'm an American idiot. [laughs] Well, let's blast through some Milwaukee stuff even though Val Kilmer's not from Milwaukee. He's dead. He is dead. Mm. 65. Val Kilmer is dead.
- 6:22Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Too bad, I liked Val. That's right, Ice Man. I just watched Tombstone this weekend. I am- Uh- Still gotta watch that about every- Come on... every two months or so. I just- Mr. Hinkles.
- 6:32It's my, it's my favorite movie, and it's, he's my favorite guy in that movie. Mr. Ringo's a educated man. [laughs] Makes me hate him more. [laughs] Should I hate him, honey? Sure. [laughs] Yeah, I think I do.
- 6:43Uh, whatever. Um, so we've got this Milwaukee Messenger Invitational/Green Mile weekend coming up that we've been talking about for a while. Here's a coup d'grace there for that day.
- 6:53Guess who's playing at Amorphic Friday night during the registration? Give you one guess. Rides a fat bike, plays a guitar, got a guy with a planet named that drums for him. Scanlan? Yeah. El Rongo?
- 7:09El Rongo's gonna be playing a, like a 45-minute set during registration- Wow... for the Green Mile on Friday night. And when is that? Is- You know what? What time is registration? And didn't you... Yeah, this is bad.
- 7:17Uh, 6:00 to 7:00 is registration time. 6:00 to 7:00, this could be done. This is bad. Do you think so? Oh, yeah. [laughs] Bob Mould doesn't go on until 8:00. I'm supposed to volunteer, though.
- 7:26Well, okay, Craig Finn is opening, so- I-... I want to see opener. Wow. So I think it's door- We totally- It's door seven and I think. I have to beg Brett for forgiveness here because- [laughs] I heard you-...
- 7:40I've had Bob Mould tickets- You've been practicing this since then?... from pre-sale. [laughs] I was practicing that on, on Sunday. I haven't won any tickets yet, so I'm not- Oh, no...
- 7:49I'm not technically going yet 'cause I haven't won any tickets yet. I haven't won any tickets- They're selling-... but I'm- They're giving a lot of them away, so keep an eye... I- I'm working on that...
- 7:56my ears are- 'Cause that's a, that's a pretty good size place to fill up. Oh, but that's such a great venue- I might end up going... to see Bob Mould. It doesn't matter if, if- Is it Turner or P- Pabst?
- 8:05If Pabst Theater's- Turner... group gets my money- Nice... or not, you know? Right. Okay. I'd say- It's like I'd rather it just come from MSC- Yeah... and then the, then, and it did that.
- 8:14That's, I'm not gonna pack that weekend, that's all. And then you got money to buy Ber- merch. Yes, exactly. There you go. Nice. I, I in fact- So I'm going there, it's just a matter of- Do not have money to buy merch-...
- 8:23who did it... 'cause I spent a lot of money for these tickets. [laughs] Well, I paid regular price. Right, no, it's- And now because of all the fees that they tack on, it's, it's pretty...
- 8:32You can't just go to the box office? They still tack the fees on now. Yep. Oh, that's kind of a sham, isn't it? I know, and it was a bum- That's a sham. That's a sham...
- 8:38I did that for They Might Be Giants- Sham, sham, sham... and I'm like, "Oh, wait. These are the same price." Door seven, show at 8:00. All right. Okay.
- 8:45That's not happening for me because there's more Green Mile stuff going on. Well, I'm- Tickets start at $29.50. You guys have fun over there. We will be avatars. I feel so bad. Right on. Take a picture of Robert for me.
- 8:58We will. [laughs] And, and Cregory. Cregory. Cre- Cregory Finn. That's Friday? It's Friday. And then the second fr- I didn't realize- Come out. We'll be out Friday...
- 9:05okay, since we're talking about all of this- Oh, we can come. Yeah... like, um, I didn't realize that the drummer who also, well, who plays with Bob Mould now on tour was the drummer for Superchunk. Yep. Yep, yep. Yep.
- 9:17Oh. You know what I like? I like the bass player guy- Makes it that much-...
- 9:20'cause he's like the rock guy, and he just does all the poses with the bass, and he's like, does all the, stands up on one foot- Yeah, it is gonna be a rock and fuck show...
- 9:28and he, he does, he does the rock star, 'cause he's a young'un, that- Yeah... that kid there. Yeah. All right, uh, we got some more stuff to talk about. Let's talk to Andrew a little bit, though. Uh, Riverwest 24 stuff.
- 9:40We had, uh, was Corey on last week, week before? Week before last we had Corey Bauman on- Yeah... who is, who is Checkpoint Charlie. Yeah.
- 9:47Checkpoint manager, checkpoint coordinator, whatever we call the checkpoint guy, and he mentioned that you guys are still looking for suggestions for checkpoints. I don't know when that ends. Does it- Uh-...
- 9:59technically end May f- the, the day of registration, or I don't know. No, end of May, I believe. Uh- I thought he said it was gonna be- It was in all the emails.
- 10:07[laughs] I thought they were, I thought- You just have to listen to the show... I believe in the podcast- The email is full... he said that they were, there was gonna be only 36 this year, and that- Yeah...
- 10:17they would be picked during the registration the first Sunday in May. Oh, okay. Well, there you go. How do I remember this- I don't know... of all things? Mm-hmm. That's what I believe. Good, good question.
- 10:29You know- And I feel about 85% accurate that that's what he at least said on the show. Well, thank you for, you know- Go back and listen to that show... I was gonna, I was like, I'm like, "You're saying it, Robert."
- 10:38That was a couple weeks ago. And yes. So- Listen to Corey... so he- He knows what he's talking about... so he's the checkpoint guy. W- Andrew's the... What does Andrew do there?
- 10:45What does, what, what's your function in this Riverwest 24 shindiggery? Uh, the hat that I'm wearing most recently is the, uh, registration bottom liner. Oh, right on. Okay.
- 10:56So, uh, May 4th, Cinco de Mayo, uh, we are going to- Cuatro de Mayo. What? What? [laughs] Yeah, cuatro. Yeah. Cinco de Mayo. May, May the 4th be with you. Yeah. Yes, may the 4th be with you. May the 4th be with you.
- 11:08Um, we will be starting at, uh, 10:00 AM for our VIP. That's everybody that volunteered and showed up to their volunteer shift, uh, last year. [laughs] Happens.
- 11:22Um, and then at, uh, 12 o'clock we will start, uh, the lottery for registration of the main event- [laughs]... for all of the, uh, general public.
- 11:34I'll bet JK's gonna be standing around there with his, with his ticket in his hand looking at Jeremy going, "JK." Just like, "Any time now." [laughs] Just 2:95, 2:95. It's, it's been 2:95 for, like, three hours here. Oh.
- 11:48[laughs] And I don't go out of my way. I just kind of just get into line of eye, line of sight, and then it's just like, "Oh, hell."
- 11:55[laughs] Oh, you're, you're just hoping that he's gonna grab in, and, you know, the fates are gonna just help guide his hand to your number? He just keeps saying the number- It works itself-...
- 12:02and he eventually says your number is kind of how it works, I think. [laughs] Well, no, and then it's the winners.
- 12:06Like, okay, every- every- anyone who gets a, bring them to this guy so he can get away from the side of the stage. Yes, yes, yes. You know? I was just noticing how colorful those are.
- 12:14Th- 'cause Kombuster- Being matches are combustible, I guess, is what they're doing, but- Ah, that's pretty funny... they actually had m- matchbooks made.
- 12:21Who- Who- how do you- I mean, I- There's gotta be a- I appreciate that they had matchbooks... there's gotta be advertising somewhere that tells you how you can get these. I don't think so.
- 12:28They, they might have paid enough so that you- Oh, no, they paid enough to, uh- Yeah, it, it, you get it for free. What is the same- Oh, oh... what's, what's in the tiny print there? Promotionalmatches.com.
- 12:36Oh, there you go. Yep. Okay. So if you need matchbooks, folks, and I, I don't see why you wouldn't. Keep away from children. And it's in- Let me see that matchbook. Did you guys ever- Is that in French?
- 12:43Did you, like, ever do this when you were a kid? You're like- It's in Fr- [laughs] it's not in Spanish- Zing... and English That wasn't a very good one. It's in French- But you can, you can, like-... and English...
- 12:51hit a fly on a wall with a matchbook if you're good at it. We... Huh. Yeah, anyway. No, you gotta do the Fred Flintstone lighter when you, like, bend it over but don't detach it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:59And then you, and then you can hold it like this to- Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. That's when your [imitates lighter]- Good way to start your whole matchbook collection [laughs] Right. Yeah.
- 13:05Well, I remember, I get those- Burn your house down... I remember getting those at L- Now, wait, we don't need no- Was it sitting on-... lithium ion batteries to do that. We got matches...
- 13:12those matches were sitting all over, uh, Lilliput. And, and I was just like, "Why are there matchbooks?" You know? [laughs] That's funny. Like, all over a, a record store. They're probably 25 where your smoking is.
- 13:22Just about guaranteed to get kicked out. And I'm just like, "What the hell is going on?" I'm like, "Oh, okay, now I get it." Smoking cigarettes. I'm like, I like- Smoking cigarettes, yeah. Yeah.
- 13:29Um, but yeah, we'll, we're gonna have, uh, Pedro's, uh, taco or, um, empanada truck out there. We've got, uh, Merritt Prock will be DJing. Uh- That's, uh, Jeremy's son, right? Yeah, that is. I still got my bike.
- 13:44He was the, "Yeah, yeah, yeah." [imitates horn] Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] He still has my bike. He went a little overboard on that during the, uh, the closing ceremony. It's my gunner. [laughs] It's the 24.
- 13:54Yeah. It's my gunner. Yeah. I felt, I felt like I was at the son's wedding- Yeah... where we had DD, DD, DJ Dub Deezy, who was doing all of his, like- DD... prom, like, commercials during the blessed event. Yeah.
- 14:07It's like, what the hell is this? Whose blessed event was that? Uh, Jake. Oh, it wasn't, yeah, 'cause you didn't have a DJ at your event. Nuh-uh, I was. Oh. If anything. Right, yeah. [laughs] You had, you did your own.
- 14:16Yeah, I had this... Yeah. Like, pull out the thing. It's like, "Da, da, da, da." Okay, it starts a professional. Yeah. [laughs] There you go. All right. Cool. So, uh, what do we know?
- 14:25What can you let on besides registration is, is May the Fourth be with you. That's a Saturday, I assume. Or is it a Sunday? Uh, it is a Sunday. It's a Sunday. It's always the- In May. The first Sunday after...
- 14:37it's also the, it's always- Well, there's not always East Bend. Maybe. It's- Well, yes. But, uh, in recent years, um, o- it's going to always be the first full Sunday in May. What if there's a half Sunday?
- 14:51Oh, then we're fucked. Ah. [laughs] Yeah, half Sunday. Uh, what else? So- Then just, then we're gonna bring back camping. Yes. I don't see why you ever gave that up. It all comes- Uh, yeah. Neighbors. Neighbors.
- 15:03Well, you know what? Try- For one day a year, they can just suck it up... yeah, well, then it becomes three, three days a year that they, that people gotta suck it up.
- 15:11And, uh, the, the last year we did camping, it got a little wild, and, uh- It's all 'cause of Tony... no, no, he passed out. [laughs] No, I did not. That, that year I did not at all. No, no, no, no, no.
- 15:23Oh, you know what I see, Tony? On your body, I see under your shirt, you know what I see? You know, I see a f- f- that's a full moon- It is a full moon... that's a full moon- Fatbike.com... full moon beach ride.
- 15:32Fat-Dash-Bike-dot-com. Sure. That's from, uh- It's good for your booty... I was just, yeah. Ride like a pirate. It's good for your booty. Ride it for your booty. I think that that was 2012 or 2013- I don't know...
- 15:42'cause I just came across it again. Those were so much fun. Yep. Okay. We should bring those back. So- Please tell me- We are bringing them back... all right. Arrr. That's why, that's why- We arrrr...
- 15:51that's why I'm telling you now about it, and because it's coming up in August. August 9th is the next full moon that's on a weekend, like a, a Friday or Saturday. I think it's a Saturday, this August 9th.
- 16:01Usually there's two or three full moons that fall on a weekend during a year. Okay. I think we missed one already.
- 16:08August 9th is for sure one, so we will be doing a part beach ride for a full moon on fat bikes on the sand. Whether there's other shenanigans going on yet, I do not know, but we're working on that. Okay.
- 16:20We have enough time. To? My ape simulator. How about that ape? Simulator. Clyde? Clyde? What do you wanna do with that? If we're gonna ride on the beach, I want it to be a single speed. What? [laughs] Absolutely.
- 16:34Welcome to the tribe. A- absolutely. Well, you're gonna have to have one on the front like that and one on the back like this. No, that's, well, that's fine. Go slow. It's gonna be...
- 16:43You know, I, no, I don't mind if I have to crank a little harder or hop off and pull. What about, uh- What about using the internally geared hub? It's... Oh, the other one I got's on an ASYM.
- 16:52Oh, right, on that, so- I mean, I have to take fat- Well, I might be able to take fat burger. Fat burger. Okay. Okay. Anyway, so that's, uh- Interesting. That's exciting news... that's coming up.
- 17:00That's a long time down the road. Terry's on her first phone ever. I like- 80 days. You can get a new one. I like, no, I like you dropping that, uh, yeah. I'm buying nothing new, by the way. Are you?
- 17:08I, I will be purchasing- Cheers... fucking nothing new until- Cheers... a lot of things change. I remember you- Yeah. Cool... I remember you doing that several years back. Mm-hmm. That was- '2012... that was- '2013. '14?
- 17:19I don't know. Yeah. Somewhere in there. Went on a year. Yeah, you went a long time without buying anything new. Mm-hmm. Uh, yeah. I can do it. I can't. I can. I'm really good at it.
- 17:28We have to keep getting stuff so I can fix people's bikes, but- That doesn't count. That's not even- That does not count. That's only personally. I, wait a minute, for the record,
- 17:36while I did this, I did have a disclaimer that if I needed to repair one of my bikes and I couldn't buy something used, I was not about to buy a used chain. I did buy a new nine-speed chain for my bike.
- 17:51That, that's not- That's maintenance, though. That's, yeah, yeah. That's, that's not, that's not a luxury item. But for the record, that's also the year that I went to the bike swap when it was at Riverside.
- 17:59It might've been the first year it was at Riverside, and Carolyn and Tristan had a once used pack of Arkel panniers. Oh. Ooh. And I had bought a bunch of other used stuff and was worried how I was gonna get it home.
- 18:16Yeah. Oh, there you go. How? Fortuitous. And I got that set of panniers, made in America, all rebuildable- 'Merica... for 75 bucks. [laughs] Who made them in America? Arkel I didn't know they were American. Yeah.
- 18:27Oh, yeah. Isn't that, uh- Either Oregon or Seattle... my s- That's why, that's why, uh- My Sturdy bags have that- Dan has it too... on them. It's on the Sturdy bag too. It's, yeah. That's... They use the same mechanisms.
- 18:37Yeah. Though they're hardware store rebuildable. [laughs] Nice. Yeah. They're an absolutely gem, and they are super waterproof. That's the one that, that Dan has, Dan, of Dan Just has thousands and thousands of miles on.
- 18:53Same exact color and everything. It's hilarious. We talk about it all the time. So here's another Milwaukee thing, just to kind of, you know- The Milwaukee thing... going back, 'cause there's a lot of Milwaukee stuff on.
- 19:01Uh, did you guys run into this Holton Street Bridge project where they're closing down Commerce Street and the Marsupial during the- No... day? No. Start, well, it started, uh, Monday. Okay. Yep. Last, a couple days ago.
- 19:14Okay. And it's apparently gonna go for a few weeks, uh, located underneath the bridge. It's also scheduled closed weekdays between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM over the next s- several weeks. Okay.
- 19:25So in case you wanna use the Marsup, that's not gonna work- It's not gonna happen... as well when it's closed. Oh, it's not, not in AM, but it'll cl- Yeah... it'll be back o- open and- Right... like, three.
- 19:33But it's gonna be open for, 'cause isn't there, like, a ral- like, one of the meetup rally points for Green Mile or MMI? Could be. It says 3:00 PM, so that'll be after th- No, I, I, like, on the flyer.
- 19:43I, 'cause I swear I saw on one of them. Well. Where it was like, yeah, or like me, like, like- [laughs] That, that could be really interesting [laughs] for- Yeah. I di- I, I just Go roll with the punches...
- 19:51well, so the Green Mile- Shout out, shout out to Milwaukee DPW. They've been great to work with for, like, Riverwest 24, and I'm, I'm just gonna assume that, uh, Green Mile as well, like...
- 20:01They've guaranteed us that they will make sure that the Marsupial Bridge will be available during the 24. Right. Right, right. Right on. Yeah.
- 20:08And they usually go down and hit the streets that are the main, the main course, and hit the potholes and fill stuff in and- Mm-hmm... yeah, they do.
- 20:17I mean, with, with Humboldt being redone, it's not as huge a deal, but. No, but I mean, when Humboldt was under construction, they came out and they put down those, uh, those nice steel, um, uh, I don't know. Covers.
- 20:30Covers or- Things. Yeah, so people- Weight... would die, and then it rained, and then they got super slick, so you know. Yeah. Cool. [laughs] You know, you can't, you can't...
- 20:3724 hours, you could have all kinds of weather. Oh, yeah. All right. So w- what other, uh, Riverwest 24 stuff can we talk about?
- 20:44You mentioned before something to do with a radio programming thing that might be coming up at, uh, Riverwest Radio. Is it a sh- Yeah... showgram? Yes. I believe it is 4:30 PM on Friday.
- 20:56Uh, there is a, uh, either recorded or live show. Uh, it'll be play- it'll be live over the air at 4:30, and then can be found on SoundCloud, uh, if you miss it. And this is every Friday?
- 21:11It- That is my understanding, yes... until the event, or you think it's just gonna go in perpetuity, that it's gonna be a Friday thing, and they may do some wide-ranging topics? I don't know. Yeah. I, I think, um,
- 21:21at least until- To be seen... August, you know. Okay. Uh, y- you can hear it, and then, uh, w- we'll see how much momentum we have.
- 21:29And, uh, I know that we're gonna have just so much content, 'cause I would say the, the biggest thing of the last couple of years that we've done that's really innovative is the 24-hour broadcast where we have, uh, had, uh, uh, you know, people on the street, uh, reporting and- Like a live stream situation?
- 21:49Uh, actual, like, you know, community reporters coming in- Right on...
- 21:53and doing, uh, using their, their phones or equipment to, uh, do recordings or, and interviews, and then coming back to the radio station and doing their editing and then mixing that in with the, the, the- Nice...
- 22:06DJs that are- Well... are playing. Uh, you know, it, it's not only audio, but video. Uh, you know, we've got one of those Logies, uh, sitting on the, uh, at the beginning of the race at, at start finish- Oh, yep.
- 22:19Saw that there... that's just facing out. Yep. Um, man, that, you know, that, that stream was, was just a lot of fun to, to watch.
- 22:25If you're, if you can't make it down, please tune in, uh, both on all of the, the medias, and, uh, you can find the streams on our website, riverwest24.com. Um- Will it be on Blue Sky? Will it be on Blue Sky?
- 22:39That is a good question. We are a- I don't see why not. Yeah. We, uh, the Riverwest 24 are, uh, working over the next, uh, foreseeable future to divest off of the Meta products.
- 22:52Uh, I, I can't speak too much out of that, uh, not being a bottom-liner for that, but I, I, I know that that has been a really good movement.
- 23:03Uh, we, we may still have to post on Facebook because that's just where everybody is right now. Mm-hmm. Um, but all of the posts will be moving people to- Subscribe to... yeah, yeah, it, or links to- Yeah...
- 23:13the other platforms. Right. Um- So what, what are you... So is Blue Sky one of them? Blue Sky, uh- And w- what's, uh- So Riverwest24, I mean, bring back r- bring back forums, right? Yeah.
- 23:25You know, we're- Alta Vi- give me my AltaVista. Yeah. It wa- you know, uh, bring, bring back, uh- Yeah... you know, um, uh, going to individual websites. Um, you know, we are on... Uh, let's see.
- 23:42So if people are looking for an Instagram replacement, because Instagram, I think, is arguably more relevant than Facebook right now. But it's a Meta product. Um, Pix- Pixel Fed- Pixel Fed...
- 23:54is an open source similar to Blue Sky. You own your content. It's a distribution network. I don't think it's on- It'll be in the show notes...
- 24:02I don't think it's on AT protocol like, uh, Blue Sky is, but it's your- What's your handle on Pixel Fed? Right. That's a good question. I think- I don't even know what you are on Blue Sky.
- 24:11I think I did- I haven't been able to find you... I think I'm on Blue Sky, like, eight different places. I've n- I found, I found fat-bike.com. Yeah. Oh. And on that note [bell dinging] I can try it.
- 24:22He rang it earlier, but we never talked about it. We were at the top of the hill earlier, and- All right... we've just been kind of plateauing.
- 24:28JK, JK brought in the, uh, the beer today, so we'll let him tell you about it Well, it's beer. Yeah. [laughs] It's beer. [laughs] It's beer. It comes in a can. Um, Central Waters- Comes in a can...
- 24:37Brewing Company out of Amherst, Wisconsin apparently. Amherst. I didn't... Where, I... Where is that? Is that over by Madison? You go to Appleton- It's center- You take a left... center left-ish.
- 24:47Kind of over by- Center north... Beaver Dam. Mm, further. I have no idea. Oh, okay. Yeah. I j- But it's an India pale ale. By Custer. Rift. Yeah. It's good. I think I've had this one.
- 25:00I think we have had this one some before. G. A. Smith is my- [laughs] Gas... that's my Blue Sky [laughs] handle. Gas Smith. That's me. Gas Smith. Uh, then we also have sp- Full Sp- Full Sp- Mul- Spectrum- Full...
- 25:10Full Spectrum Cycle because- Full Pork... you can only have so many, uh, things.
- 25:14Nice And then, uh, fat-bike.com is the, you know, and then Riding Gravel I got because we were gonna take over that site, but now we're not apparently taking that site over. Yet. Yet.
- 25:24Well, then they can pay you for the, uh, Blue Sky handle. Well, they might, they might go ahead and pay us to take it over. I don't know. We're not paying them to take it over, so yeah. Right. Anyway, G. A. Smith.
- 25:33Well- You know what? I always love something new like Blue Sky or Pixel Fed is getting in on the ground floor because I can usually get my own- Oh... preferred handle. Frozen Han. Thank you. Yeah.
- 25:43You get that pretty regularly. [laughs] I get it, yeah. Someone got, uh, Andy Zahn. My, uh, my dad sent me, "Oh, is that you?" And I'm like, "No, that...
- 25:50But I know that guy 'cause I have, uh, the email address that you would find when you go for him." And, uh, he does, like tech reviews and computer stuff. Oh.
- 26:00And, uh, so I get a lot of, like, uh, marketers being like, "Hey, would you like to review this, [laughs] this product?" And I just go and forward it on to him. Nice. Yeah. No- 'Cause you're nice. Yeah, 'cause I'm nice.
- 26:11I would love the, I'd, I'd love the, uh, the Zima board that they were trying to send him, but, uh- Yeah. Can I have this when you're done? [laughs] No, really. You might ship it back to me, man. Yeah.
- 26:20I know, I'm pretty sure Tony'll know who this is. You know who James May is? Yeah. Of course. Okay. So his Top Gear deal, he... There's a, a Jalopnik, you know, if we go to Jalopnik- Yeah, yeah, every day. Oh, I know.
- 26:30So, so Top Gear host argues to swap pointless driving for cycling in the city. Yeah. That's awesome coming from a guy whose basic job was to, you know, pimp cars all- Yeah... you know, his entire life just about.
- 26:42Uh, and it's- He's also been a hur- huge cyclist, and if you ever watch any of his incredibly cool videos of putting things together after he takes them apart- Yeah... like model trains and clocks.
- 26:54And the dude's a motherfucking genius, and it's so much fun to watch. Yeah. It's meticulous- Well... to, it, and he talks about everything he does really. He's like, um- Is his brother, like, the Queen guitarist?
- 27:07Oh, God. That would be too much brains for one family. I know. He's, he's like an astro- Brian May? Brian May. Brian May. Yeah. He's, there's an astrophysicist. Astrophysicist.
- 27:13Like, I mean, are they all just brainiacs- Are they family?... with their names? Wow. Oh, it's like Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes or something? [laughs] Good Lord, what's in the genes? That would be a, yeah.
- 27:21Also, the, the, the dude from Weezer, isn't he a... Uh- He's got a PhD in something... he's learned. There's a ton of musicians- But he's not a May... that are smart. Uh, Dexter- Oh, no, he's not a May...
- 27:32Dexter from, uh, Offspring- Yeah... also PhD, I think. Well, there's some- I guess when you get enough money and time, uh- There's some hair band that are all lawyers... and Noodles, Noodles, the guitarist.
- 27:41I was trying to remember the guitarist's name. Noodles, if I'm wrong- From Weezer? No, from, uh, Offspring. Oh, right. Um, they're MIT guys I thought, some of them at least. I know. They- Yeah... yeah, yeah.
- 27:50So that- Anyway, so his, one of his quotes was- Self-Google [laughs]... one of, one of, uh, one of, uh, Mr. May, not Brian. [laughs] One of his quotes was, "Bicycles are a genuine door-to-door transport solution.
- 28:02Cycling is fantastic in cities. Even Google Maps will acknowledge that a bicycle is quicker for some journeys than a car. It amazes me that people go to the shops a mile away in their car.
- 28:11The world has proved that bicycles make immense sense in densely populated areas." Sp- preachin' to the choir, brother. Right. Exactly. Yeah. I just, yeah. And it probably even sounds better in his accent.
- 28:24I don't- Uh, absolutely. Oh, yeah. I, his- And his, his- I, I don't even do a lousy British accent [laughs] So, so, so is he gonna have- But he can roll it so well, too... like, a low gear show now? Yeah. Right?
- 28:32Oh, yeah. Low tech. Yeah. He does, his- Single speed for life. He's, I will, so I, I did make, I busted out, I thought the farmers market was Sunday. I fucked up.
- 28:44And I busted out my SOHO and decided, I'm like, "All right," rode past your house. I'm like, "All right. I'll just ride to the farmers market." I'm into the wind the whole way.
- 28:53I'm kinda hating it, but I'm like, "Ah, it's gonna make me stronger. I like this bike a lot. It weighs nothing." You know, it's 22 pounds with fenders. And I get here, I'm like, "Oh, well."
- 29:04And then I ride it back and there's a lost dog, and I see this lady. I see the dog running with its leash, and I turn to her. I'm like, "Do you need help finding this dog?" She's like, "Ah, please."
- 29:14And I'm like, "All right, let's go." And we ended up catching her, which, so that was a good reason. It was part of my reason to come to the, apparently to the farmers market that didn't exist.
- 29:23Uh, and then, um, I rode it back with the wind at my back, and that's where a single speed's just so much, so much more interesting than a bike with gears. Into the wind really freaking blows. Can. [laughs] It can.
- 29:35It can. Yeah. Yeah. It can. Yeah. With the wind, oh, yeah, it is on. Even downhill with the wind- And I, I think of the-... it's even better...
- 29:42yeah, and, and the best part is I, I always remember- It's like it forces you to take a play off 'cause otherwise you'd be just on the hamster wheel, like...
- 29:49When, when I'm riding, when I'm riding to campus, I go past the soccer field- Yeah... and it has this dip and then this rise to get past- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm... the chemistry building.
- 29:59And I always think of you because I crank as hard as I can going down that, that, that low, that drop just so I know I can be going up without any... And I swear to God- Yeah...
- 30:08I do it faster on my single speed than I do on my geared bike- [laughs]... because I'm not even worried about it with my gear bike. I'm like, "Well, I'll just down, downshift a couple gears. I'll be fine." Yeah.
- 30:16Spinner was mentioning during, 'cause he used the, uh, the Panorama Cycles Chickchocks we have in for review, number three, Chickchocks three.
- 30:24Uh, mentioned that he still rides even a geared bike in the, in the, uh, the big race up there in, uh, Hayward, that, uh, Fat Bike Burkey business. He rides, still rides it like a single speed [laughs] because- Right.
- 30:33Yeah. He gets on the gear, he's like-... he's done it so many years... "Okay, I'm good with it." Yeah. It's like- Yeah... carry as much momentum as you can because, uh, those hills are steep, you know? Mm-hmm.
- 30:42You don't wanna slow down on those suckers. Yeah. That was fun. Oh, boy. But I do like it. I do. Uh, did we get, did we get through the beer? I know we stopped at the top of the hill. Did we talk about it or something?
- 30:49Well, we- Oh, yeah... we talked about where, where, where they're brewed. Central Waters. But, uh- 6.75... did we mention, uh, Pabst Church? Oh. Not on this. That's where their location is in Milwaukee.
- 30:59I just didn't put it- Oh, they're in the Pabst Church? I didn't really put it together. Yeah. They re- There's a, the brewery that opened- Oh, that's right, yeah. I don't think they brew, do they brew there?
- 31:04And they do... No, yeah, they got a, a, there's- I suppose. It's pretty big, like... Yeah. I w- I don't know if it's a pico or a micro. They have vats. Yeah, I would guess that is a pico. Well, that was...
- 31:13They had pretty good tanks in there when it was- Pretty big panel... what was it, Frederick Pabst's place or something? Probably Indiana. Yeah. When they were dancing around with all...
- 31:20Yeah, they had the old On decker recipes. Beautiful. Oh. It's a beautiful place to visit if you haven't been there. Brewery district, um, what is that, uh... 10th and Juneau. Yeah. 10th and Juneau. Yeah.
- 31:281037 West Juneau. Which nobody knows how to get to, thank God- Yeah... because it makes it easier for us who do know where it is. [laughs] Yeah. We're k- we're kind of ruining our, our, our, our favorite spot.
- 31:36Did, did that w- did that with Oscar's Hamburgers. It's, speaking of top of the hill, it's the top of the hill. The garden. Nobody wants to get up there. The beer alley. And you won't be able to park anyways. Oh, yeah.
- 31:43Even talked about that, now everyone's there. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Can't keep some places secret, so. It's great for cyclists though. Fixure, now Fixture's fucked up. Yeah. True. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. You, you got us.
- 31:52What'd you do to Fixture? All right. I got- It was right there. Here's- That bathroom will never recover...
- 31:57so here's some cyclist that used to live here in Milwaukee, but now lives in Charlotte, and he says it's the shittiest place in the world to ride bikes. That's Charlotte. Why'd you move there? Charlotte?
- 32:05North Cackalacky? Well, because his wife, I think, got a job or they want... Well, I don't know. But anyway- Money... yeah, could be money. Uh, uh, Carlos is coming back- Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah...
- 32:14to Milwaukee for the Locust Street Festival weekend. Ooh. And he asked me if he could borrow a bike. Carlos. I'm like, "Heck yeah, you can borrow a bike." $80 a minute. What? Yeah. [laughs] It'll be great to see Carlos.
- 32:28That'll be fun. $80 a minute for what? Him to l- Does he still have-... to rent that bike from you. Oh. [laughs] Yeah. No. Oh, no, just have him bring some beer up from, uh, North Carolina. Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
- 32:38I don't know if he's- Yeah. Smoky and the Bandit or something. I'm not sure if he's... He may be flying in. I mean, I flew with him, yeah. Yeah. Well, it doesn't matter. Yeah, Smoky and the Bandit it. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 32:45We... That Coors Light needs to get up there, buddy. I would be great to see Carlos, so let me know. North eastbound and down. Rollin' up and truckin'. North, northeast and up. We're gonna do what they say can't be done.
- 32:53Make that long, lonely road- Hopefully Locust, hopefully Locust Day this year will actually have, you know, weather that's acceptable... short time to get there. Just watch an old Bandit run.
- 32:58Well, doesn't, uh, Oscar Blues have a facility? I think they're in North Carolina. Yeah. They're not in Charlotte, I don't think. So they're in Charlotte. They're down in, they're down in Asheville.
- 33:05Charlotte's in North Carolina too. I think they're in Asheville area. The mountains. They're not in the shitty part. They're in the Asheville part. Oh, oh, oh, oh. No. Stop it.
- 33:12This ain't- River Hills, Wisconsin, you know what that means? Spam call. That means, like, I'm gonna Andromeda Strain. [laughs] How do you know it's not some rich person from River Hills calling you?
- 33:22'Cause it never is, unfortunately. [laughs] I know. I've done that a lot. I got one more Milwaukee thing to mention. Uh, and then, I don't know, we'll probably wrap this thing up, uh, s- shortly.
- 33:31Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee will be June 14th. The theme is- I read it, but I can't-... Milwacky Shack. Dun, dun. No. Oh. I don't know. Whatever. Freeze, gopher. I mean, [laughs] they, they, they do a good job.
- 33:49Oh. I just wish- You beast. You beast. Yeah, yeah. Oh. There are some great ones in that movie. It was just on TV the other day. Oh, I like it. Yeah. It just was on the other day. It's, it's- Yeah.
- 33:58When he's out, like, what are those chri- I'm reading the book right now... are those chrysanthemums he's whacking- Yep, yep, yep... out, out front with the, [laughs] with the sickle? It's like whoosh.
- 34:05Why'd they do, uh- So the backstory on that is- Oh, yeah, that one... Chevy Chase and- They, they pick, they pick, they pick good themes, movies that allow themselves a breath of- Yeah, that makes sense, I mean...
- 34:20costumery- Sure... for it. Yeah. Um- I mean, I'd love to do something, like, good, you know, like- Schofers?... or Escape From New York or, you know- Fuck... The Warriors, you know? That's snake, baby. You know?
- 34:32They could, like, do one of those, like- Is everybody gonna be snakes? Nice boots... I, I- I don't know if I wanna ride in the tanks... I don't, I don't know if they're gonna go that dark, you know? No, I- But...
- 34:39[laughs] There's a, there's a book about the making of CaddyShack, and the fact that it was a flop initially, um, at the box office, and it became a cult classic. But apparently,
- 34:50I'm sure you know, Chevy Chase is just a prick to work with. I have never worked with him, so I couldn't tell you.
- 34:56[laughs] Well, if you know anything, if you've read anything about him, he's apparently a total asshole, and the whole relationship with him and, and, and Bill Murray is, in the book so far- Fractured...
- 35:07it's, it's, it's- It's very fractured... pretty freaking crazy. It's amazing that that ended up doing what it is. I... It's one of my favorite movies of all time.
- 35:15Oh, maybe, maybe the stress was the juice that made it, uh- Yeah... click. It's, it is one of my all-time favorite movies. That went down the wrong pipe. Are you okay? I'm good. Okay. Good. Thank you.
- 35:26Uh, all right, Andrew, well, uh, what- Don't yak like Spalding in the- I know. I was gonna probably hurl all over everything.
- 35:31Uh, any other River West 24 stuff we can, like, leak now, or should we come back later and leak more stuff later? Um- Like, is there anything- Running down your leg... new? Is there anything,
- 35:44uh, different than previous years? Or- The course may not be what you expect it to be. Ooh, okay. Dun, dun, dun. Dun, dun, dun. We'll just tease that one. All right. I know. Stop it. To the next time. Look at me.
- 35:58[laughs] Uh, and then maybe we'll have some other luminaries from the old River West 24, uh- Yeah... uh, planning crew. One, one thing, uh, you know, it, I talked earlier about, uh, 10:00 AM is VIP registration.
- 36:11Uh, I recommend anyone listening, uh, if you can't make it down this time or, uh- There's no why... make it time for, uh, registration, if you wanna ensure that you get in next year, sign up. Volunteer.
- 36:24Email volunteer@riverwest24.com. I got, I got shit from my kids about that, and they're like- Every year... "Well, why didn't you tell us?" I'm like, "Just volunteer this year and you're in like Flynn next year." Yeah.
- 36:36Pretty simple. In like the Flynn. Can... Is it... And they're like, "It's like two days before." Flynn. I'm like, "Well, re- registration was back in May." Yeah, yeah...
- 36:44you know, if you wanna do this, probably pay attention to the dates. Yeah. Registration is May the 4th. The event isn't until the last weekend of July. Yeah. Whatever weekend that happens to be.
- 36:54If you really wanna get your legs under you, go do the first three or four days of RAGBRAI, get some miles under you, and then come back and kick ass at the 24. Yeah. [laughs] You could do that if you wanted to.
- 37:04It's not a race. He didn't say it was. It's a way of life. Lifestyle, man. Hey, here's another thing about Tony Burger. Tony's gonna take a little hiatus it sounds like.
- 37:16Uh, he did wanna come in and do sh- do dude dangle- I do show 300... show 300. But yeah. But, uh, you're gonna take a, you're gonna take some time off and- Yeah, I, I need to.
- 37:25I have some time to deal with, uh, family matters. Family m- is that his name now? [laughs] No, his name is Daniel. Family Matters. [laughs] Come on. It's still Daniel, but- That's Urkel...
- 37:36but- You're talking about Urkel... I do believe. But- Urkel and the cop from Die Hard... I would love it if Daniel was Urkel's size. [laughs] Uh, I'll be- He's bigger than Urkel.
- 37:47[laughs] Is he gonna start saying, "Did I do that?" Well, it, it- I do believe... no, he says, "You know something?" I did that. [laughs] "You know something? I'm omnipotent." [laughs] At least he's not omnipotent.
- 38:01He will throw out weird-ass shit like that at me all the time. Right on. So yeah, I'm, I need to, um, I need to take a step back and deal with, uh, my, my family shit. Yeah. So I'm gonna do that.
- 38:14Well, you're welcome anytime. I don't think we've seen the last of Tony, but we'll do it on his schedule rather than the show schedule, which by the way is changed now.
- 38:22This week is the first week we're recording on Wednesday, and that allowed us to go to Local Live last night, which I thought Local Live was every week, which would be really awesome, but it's only- It is...
- 38:34once a month. Isn't it? No, I thought it was every week. So, well, it's on the radio every week. Live. But live, live. In person. Yeah. It was, uh, what was it? Co- Really?
- 38:44Collections of- A collection of a colony of bees... colonies of bees. And if that fucking guy- They opened for Silvaneso... said Cocoa Bees one more time, I was gonna go over there and punch him.
- 38:52Oh, is that what it actually is though, is Collection Of- Collections Of Colonies Of Bees... Of Colony Of Bees. Oh, that's genius. They were, they were really good. Oh, I know they are. It was, it was an excellent show.
- 39:01I, they opened for Silvaneso. But yeah, there, there was the Not Sid, and I, I'm not gonna call him out by name, but he kept- Not Wild. He kept going, "Cocoa Bees. Are you Cocoa Bees?
- 39:11The Cocoa Bees, Cocoa Bees, Cocoa Bees." I'm like, "Dude, stop it." [laughs] But wait, are you sure that's not why they call themselves that? What? 'Cause I bet you it is. Well, it's a collection col... I get it. Yeah.
- 39:24But I'm just saying- So, I mean-... stop it. He kinda leaned into it. I'm just saying. Just a little too far. [laughs] You know? But it was awesome. But anyways, so we will not- Which was great because-...
- 39:35miss a Local Live anymore because we are not doing Tuesdays anymore. So is, is it now officially Wednesdays all the time now? Yeah, for the time being. I might be able to get to a Local Live then too. That'd be cool.
- 39:44Yeah. Right. Yeah. Next one is Fuzzy Surf in May. At Anodyne still. Anodyne on Bruce. On Bruce. From 6:00 PM. Central Time. Fantastic sound. It was a very good... It's a good little venue, and there was- Yeah...
- 39:54I don't know, 100 and some odd people in there, and- Yeah. And that was- For, for a band that is as, you know, big as those guys are, it's awesome seeing them in a small venue.
- 40:04So yeah, uh, again, anytime Tony, you can pop in and we'll, we'll, we, it's, we haven't seen the last of Tony. No. No. No. No. Andrew, thank you very much for being on the show.
- 40:14Riverwest24.com is the website to come and be part of the only event of its kind in the country. Cities have tried it, and they have not been able to make it work.
- 40:26Somehow Milwaukee, and especially Riverwest, does make it work.
- 40:30And if you haven't done it before, block off that, you know, block off that time this year to go volunteer, and then come back next year and then have fun at the event. [laughs] Yeah. In fact, I don't think I've...
- 40:41I think last year, actually, was on a team the last couple years. But in the past, I've done years where I'm just out photographing, just out hanging out in the neighborhood.
- 40:49It's all good if you wanna come that weekend and just observe and- Yeah... kinda get the lay of the land. Figure it out if you wanna do it. You can- All the bonus checkpoints are open to the public. Oh, that's right.
