- 0:05Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:08Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex bar Blazarre and Lazarre. Hello, everybody nailed it.
- 0:13Speaker 1: He joined as always buy an our bar Gaski. Here
- 0:19Speaker 1: is Evan Lazar and Alex bars Is Keisehon Booty. He
- 0:22Speaker 1: gonna be okay with that many cham For reference, he
- 0:25Speaker 1: played sixty seven percent of the snaps and games using
- 0:27Speaker 1: last year, seventy nine percent year before that, So you
- 0:30Speaker 1: were talking about a significant, significant decrees.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I don't like the situation for him because he's a
- 0:37Speaker 2: fourth year player that's in the final year of his
- 0:39Speaker 2: rookie contract, that needs to make headway to get a
- 0:42Speaker 2: second contract in the NFL, and now you're going to
- 0:45Speaker 2: take that player's role, You're gonna cut it in half
- 0:47Speaker 2: when he's trying to get paid. It just doesn't feel, honestly,
- 0:51Speaker 2: it doesn't feel fair to kaish On Booty. All right,
- 0:59Speaker 2: we're going to do three three down from this spring.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I thought I thought about putting kish On Booty on
- 1:05Speaker 2: this list, but I didn't. I didn't because really round
- 1:08Speaker 2: So yeah, I just felt like, you know what's wrong?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Get on Mike about what am I there? You go
- 1:18Speaker 2: how about that.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Radio is not as easy as it looks. Apparently it's not.
- 1:22Speaker 2: It's not a it's not a skill of mine.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You know, just done how many shows? How many shows
- 1:30Speaker 1: have we done?
- 1:31Speaker 2: We've done a lot. This one. I think we're getting
- 1:34Speaker 2: I don't know. I saw the number the other day
- 1:35Speaker 2: and now I don't want to say something because I
- 1:37Speaker 2: don't remember exactly. You can find that easily.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna find it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We just did two hours. I would say we did what.
- 1:44Speaker 1: This is episode one ninety six.
- 1:47Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Oh, we're almost a two. We're almost a two hundred.
- 1:50Speaker 1: We're almost we should do something for two hundred.
- 1:52Speaker 2: We're almost at two hundred.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Wait, hang on, so today we're not twenty two.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Catch two hundred, catch two hundred.
- 2:00Speaker 3: That's twenty two hundred.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So we have a week off in July, right, two
- 2:06Speaker 1: weeks off. Well, we're going we're gonna do try to
- 2:08Speaker 1: feel something in Yeah, we're not going to. So I
- 2:10Speaker 1: think our training camp kickoff show is going to be
- 2:15Speaker 1: our two hundredth episode.
- 2:16Speaker 2: That's actually pretty good. We try to figure that the
- 2:19Speaker 2: kickoff of the season.
- 2:20Speaker 1: That's right. Yeah, you know, well, so wait, so hang on,
- 2:22Speaker 1: so today's one ninety six. Yeah, next week we're doing
- 2:25Speaker 1: a show this one ninety seven. Yep, July first would
- 2:28Speaker 1: be one ninety eight pre record something for the eighth
- 2:32Speaker 1: would be one ninety nine. And then we're off on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the fifteenth. Yeah, and then we're back on the twenty second,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and camp starts on the twenty fifth, right, yeah, yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: two hundredth episode training camp review.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're we're in the real dead period of
- 2:44Speaker 2: the off season, which means it's, uh, yours truly gets
- 2:47Speaker 2: to go on his one vacation that he gets to
- 2:49Speaker 2: go on. No, this is uh, I'm not getting married
- 2:52Speaker 2: this time, but it is our one year anniversary. So
- 2:55Speaker 2: happy anniversary to my lovely wife. One year with me.
- 2:58Speaker 2: She put up with me for actually really it's been like.
- 3:01Speaker 3: For the whole season too.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been I don't know, she's probably five or
- 3:06Speaker 2: six years since we started dating.
- 3:07Speaker 1: You guys started, I mean, you guys were dating before
- 3:09Speaker 1: the pandemic, very right. I feel like you should know this.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I met her in the fall of twenty nineteen, and
- 3:14Speaker 2: then the pandemic happened, you know, right February March of
- 3:18Speaker 2: the following year, So it was like we had a
- 3:21Speaker 2: very very short period of time where we were dating.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Before, So this fall you'll have been dating for six years.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds right.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah you should know that. I feel like you should
- 3:30Speaker 1: know two nineteen, a relationship expert, I feel you should.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I know that it was twenty nineteen because it was
- 3:36Speaker 2: Brady's last year with the Patriots, the pandemic happened, It
- 3:40Speaker 2: was a whole it was a big kind of year.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You know, it was a lot going on, and I
- 3:45Speaker 2: met Jess, So it was a lot going on in
- 3:47Speaker 2: my life at that period of time that you know
- 3:49Speaker 2: was notable. So anyways, enough about me, but that that's
- 3:53Speaker 2: a good job outlying this out laying the schedule there
- 3:57Speaker 2: a little bit, because we are going to continue at
- 3:59Speaker 2: this time for this week and next week will be
- 4:02Speaker 2: two to four as well, and then I think the
- 4:05Speaker 2: first we should be back at noon because there's the
- 4:07Speaker 2: World Cup is slowing down a little bit at that point.
- 4:10Speaker 2: But then we'll be off a couple of weeks. We'll
- 4:12Speaker 2: have something for you guys, and we won't go dark
- 4:14Speaker 2: for the full two weeks, but that that will be
- 4:17Speaker 2: the show schedule. But we just spent Alex and it's
- 4:19Speaker 2: a spine of glass Still and me and Alex Barth
- 4:22Speaker 2: and Catch twenty two. But we just spent like, what
- 4:25Speaker 2: a good seventy five percent of that show talking about soccer.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Aceh yeah, yeah, yeah, so soccer. I definitely could talk
- 4:33Speaker 2: about soccer probably for another two hours. But I'm gonna
- 4:36Speaker 2: we're gonna talk some football. We're gonna talk some Mini camp,
- 4:39Speaker 2: look back at Mini camp one last time, and look
- 4:42Speaker 2: at some ups and downs. We usually do ups and
- 4:44Speaker 2: downs Alex during the season after each game, so we're
- 4:49Speaker 2: gonna make a mini camp version of three up, three down.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And then we're also going to continue our around the
- 4:56Speaker 2: AFC East, which we put on pause because of Mini
- 4:59Speaker 2: Camp and OTA's And we're gonna talk a little bit
- 5:01Speaker 2: about the Miami Dolphins, which I think is a really
- 5:04Speaker 2: fun philosophical conversation we can have between the two of us.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Because I am a Mike McDaniel truther. It certainly did
- 5:12Speaker 2: not work out Mike McDaniel the head coach in Miami,
- 5:16Speaker 2: so we'll get to that as well. And then your
- 5:17Speaker 2: calls and emails, if you want to call in about
- 5:20Speaker 2: soccer development in the United States, then by all means
- 5:23Speaker 2: we'll we'll take those as well. Alex is enjoying his
- 5:27Speaker 2: time in the World Cup.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I am enjoying it. It has been cool. A shout
- 5:30Speaker 1: out to the Tartan Army.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, now you're new best friends too. Well.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I was hanging with some of the guys from Norway
- 5:36Speaker 1: last night. We had a lot of what we were
- 5:37Speaker 1: actually kind of off what you guys were talking about,
- 5:42Speaker 1: some of the youth sports issues and all that, and
- 5:45Speaker 1: maybe not just an American thing. And they were at
- 5:48Speaker 1: the game too, that that Holland guy's pretty impressive. We
- 5:50Speaker 1: were talking about him, and yes, they were blown away
- 5:53Speaker 1: by Jillette Stadium, all of these people. I was asked,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'm like, what's your impression of the stadium and they
- 5:58Speaker 1: he said that one guy I was talking to was
- 6:01Speaker 1: talking about how like he couldn't get over and I
- 6:04Speaker 1: know this can be a touchy subject for some Patriots.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Face lightse the scoreboard. How big that scoreboard is? Yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and he was I can't well, he didn't know what
- 6:12Speaker 1: was new, so I'd explained that to him, but he was,
- 6:14Speaker 1: they're blown away by the scoreboard, They're blown away by
- 6:16Speaker 1: Jillette Stadium. And yeah, we were just kind of talking sports,
- 6:20Speaker 1: youth sports in our different countries, and told him a
- 6:23Speaker 1: little bit about the big dig that came up. That
- 6:25Speaker 1: was cool.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Why did the big dig come up?
- 6:28Speaker 1: He was talking about?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Because I finished, I don't know.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Sometimes I asked him what he thought of Boston and
- 6:35Speaker 1: he was talking about he said, like an uber drivery.
- 6:38Speaker 1: AD told him like in the last fifteen years, a
- 6:39Speaker 1: lot has changed. So he was like, what was that.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And we were at a place that happened to be
- 6:43Speaker 1: right on the Greenway there, so it's like there used
- 6:45Speaker 1: to be a big highway here. I explained the whole thing,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and so that was kind of It's called getting to
- 6:50Speaker 1: show off the city as a local. It's cool getting
- 6:53Speaker 1: to show off the city and the region and all
- 6:55Speaker 1: of that.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, we were out to dinner in the North End
- 6:57Speaker 2: on Friday night, right before the US game, and there
- 7:00Speaker 2: were you know, kilts everywhere, right, the Scottish people were
- 7:03Speaker 2: all over the restaurant, and uh, you know. I turned
- 7:06Speaker 2: to the people next to me and I was going
- 7:08Speaker 2: to try to give them some some tips about coming
- 7:11Speaker 2: to Gelat Stadium, saying that I work here. And so
- 7:13Speaker 2: I said to the guy, oh, I work here, I
- 7:16Speaker 2: work at the stadium, and uh, he thought the way
- 7:19Speaker 2: I said it, it kind of sounded like I was
- 7:21Speaker 2: like a stadium worker, you know. So he was like, oh, like,
- 7:24Speaker 2: maybe we'll see you, you know, tomorrow, and I was like,
- 7:27Speaker 2: no that I'm a I'm boring. I'm a you know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: I work in the office that is at Gelat Stadium.
- 7:32Speaker 2: But you know, it's it's been really cool around the
- 7:35Speaker 2: city to see all of them. And uh, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: hear what they got to say, But yeah, what what's
- 7:40Speaker 2: it called? I'm going to butcher the word when uh,
- 7:43Speaker 2: you know, we have all these apartment buildings that are opening,
- 7:45Speaker 2: these like nice apartment buildings that are opening in areas
- 7:48Speaker 2: of the city that aren't considered necessarily super nice.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You have gentrification.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that's what it is. Uh, And
- 7:54Speaker 2: that's I think the other thing that's really changed in
- 7:58Speaker 2: a lot of ways about the city recently. You know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: even like places like the Seaport, right, like the Seaport
- 8:04Speaker 2: used to not be this like hub of of real
- 8:08Speaker 2: estate that it is now. But you know, places like
- 8:11Speaker 2: I live in Everett and Medford and even like Charlestown
- 8:14Speaker 2: or Chelsea now it's because Medford and Everett have already
- 8:17Speaker 2: gone through it now there moving on to Malden and
- 8:21Speaker 2: Chelsea and all these different places. So yeah, it's a
- 8:24Speaker 2: lot has changed. But let's get back to football and
- 8:27Speaker 2: let's talk a little bit leftovers here from mini camp.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So I did my three up, three down?
- 8:32Speaker 1: You have yours?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, So I'll let's just get right into it.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So let's start with the ups. We usually start with
- 8:38Speaker 2: the ups. So my number one up, and this is
- 8:41Speaker 2: the I should say I did it. I hope you
- 8:43Speaker 2: did the same way, like the whole spring, not just
- 8:45Speaker 2: the day the camp, like all the OTAs we saw.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's pretty much the same. But just to put that
- 8:50Speaker 2: out there. So my number one up was Drake May.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I don't know how you can't. I feel like Drake
- 8:54Speaker 2: May is like I almost didn't do it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I feel like it was I mean, I remember a
- 8:57Speaker 1: couple of years ago we stopped putting Christian Baltimore. If
- 9:00Speaker 1: we're gonna do that with a born where I actually
- 9:02Speaker 1: didn't have Drake May because he's just he was Drake May.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He was as expected.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yes, but I feel like in some ways, like this
- 9:08Speaker 2: was kind of like the spring of Drake May because like,
- 9:10Speaker 2: how how much better of a spring could you possibly
- 9:13Speaker 2: have had? Uh? And I'm not talking about the practice
- 9:17Speaker 2: performance exclusively. First of all, just on this he got
- 9:21Speaker 2: a J.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Brown, Like, so so that my first up, I guess,
- 9:25Speaker 1: big dub my first up ties in this. My first
- 9:27Speaker 1: up was a J. Brown. Yeah, just that he's here,
- 9:29Speaker 1: he's involved, it looks like he's making stride. So this
- 9:32Speaker 1: is kind of the day we use the different player,
- 9:33Speaker 1: but he's kind of the same.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yeah. So Drake May this spring looks cool, confident, comfortable
- 9:39Speaker 2: in the offense. Year two in Josh McDaniel's system looks good,
- 9:43Speaker 2: throwing the ball spring long in the beginning of June.
- 9:46Speaker 2: On June first, he gets a new toy and AJ
- 9:49Speaker 2: Brown to work with. I don't know who had a
- 9:51Speaker 2: better spring in all of New England then Drake May.
- 9:55Speaker 2: He looks like he is poised to have a MVP
- 9:58Speaker 2: caliber season all over over again. And maybe in some ways,
- 10:02Speaker 2: like we might, it might not be the efficiency, it
- 10:05Speaker 2: might not be the stats might not exactly line up
- 10:08Speaker 2: to this, but I feel like in a lot of
- 10:09Speaker 2: ways he's gonna be a better player than he was
- 10:11Speaker 2: last year, even if, like you know, maybe he throws
- 10:14Speaker 2: more picks than he did, or his EPA isn't number
- 10:17Speaker 2: one in the league or whatever. I think that just
- 10:20Speaker 2: maturity wise, he's gonna be an even better player. But
- 10:22Speaker 2: you had AJ Brown, I.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Had AJ Brown kindes just getting him in the fold,
- 10:27Speaker 1: they got him here, and how quickly it felt like
- 10:31Speaker 1: he assimilated, Yeah, assimilated into it, and just the chemistry
- 10:37Speaker 1: with him and Drake may remember that first practice we
- 10:38Speaker 1: didn't see him do anything. Would come out a week
- 10:40Speaker 1: later and he's like the guy.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So just just the Aj Brown of it all, Just honestly,
- 10:44Speaker 1: just finally having a conclusion to that saga more than anything,
- 10:48Speaker 1: like I see the Celtics fan and I shouldn't say this,
- 10:50Speaker 1: like it's different, like I'm a Celtics fan, but I
- 10:52Speaker 1: see people like primarily Celtics fan. Yes, I've seen people
- 10:55Speaker 1: who are like primarily Celtics fans kind of starting to
- 10:58Speaker 1: bemoan the yawna stuff and like how long are we
- 11:00Speaker 1: going to do this and sick of all these rooms
- 11:01Speaker 1: that's gonna happen. It's like, oh yeah, I remember that feeling,
- 11:06Speaker 1: so like almost just just getting that almost my number
- 11:09Speaker 1: one up should be Elliot Wolf just getting that thing
- 11:11Speaker 1: wrapped up and done and they got him here and
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's that's my whatever you want to qualify that as
- 11:17Speaker 1: is my first s up.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So I thought there was two plays from the spring
- 11:20Speaker 2: that were just extremely positive early returns Drake May throwing
- 11:25Speaker 2: the ball to A. J. Brown. One of them was
- 11:26Speaker 2: that back shoulder on Kendill Wildor, which I think was
- 11:29Speaker 2: day one of Mini camp where Drake May just threw
- 11:32Speaker 2: it up on the back shoulder. AJ Brown converted the
- 11:35Speaker 2: route exactly how Drake May saw it and you know,
- 11:37Speaker 2: made the catch. The other one was obviously the one
- 11:40Speaker 2: on the last day of Mini caamp in the back
- 11:42Speaker 2: of the end zone the you know the wrong shoulder,
- 11:46Speaker 2: looks over one shoulder, you know, flips his hips and
- 11:48Speaker 2: catches the ball and taps his toes and bounce. Both
- 11:51Speaker 2: of those plays I think combined like trust in chemistry,
- 11:55Speaker 2: where like Drake May has to have the trust to
- 11:57Speaker 2: throw it up and they also have to see it
- 11:59Speaker 2: the same way that the ball is going to be
- 12:01Speaker 2: where it's going to be. To have that happened so
- 12:05Speaker 2: early on in that relationship on the field is I
- 12:09Speaker 2: think a really positive sign. You know, sometimes with those
- 12:12Speaker 2: receivers that And I'm not saying you have to do
- 12:14Speaker 2: this all the time with aj Brown, but when you
- 12:16Speaker 2: have to like throw a receiver open a lot, that
- 12:19Speaker 2: can take time. That can take you know, reps and
- 12:21Speaker 2: reps to understand how they see it and where they
- 12:24Speaker 2: want the ball. Do you want it more up, do
- 12:26Speaker 2: you want it more to the side, do you want
- 12:27Speaker 2: it lower like wherever? And it seemed like those two
- 12:30Speaker 2: guys just naturally fit together like a like a puzzle,
- 12:35Speaker 2: you know, And that was good to see. I stuck
- 12:37Speaker 2: with the receiver from my number two okay up, But
- 12:40Speaker 2: I just I thought it was another really good spring
- 12:42Speaker 2: for Tomorroo Douglas. And I don't know what it means,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and I don't know what that looks like long term
- 12:47Speaker 2: and where his fit's going to be, but I just
- 12:50Speaker 2: thought he was probably the guy that had the most receptions.
- 12:54Speaker 2: If that's your thing, you know, this spring from Drake
- 12:57Speaker 2: may a lot of it too. I thought, was, you know,
- 13:00Speaker 2: underneath stuff, not necessarily the vertical stuff that we know
- 13:03Speaker 2: he can do, which I think is the big question
- 13:05Speaker 2: mark with him. Is he gonna be able to convert
- 13:08Speaker 2: routes properly and sit in zones and be quarterback friendly
- 13:11Speaker 2: and you know, do those little option routes underneath the
- 13:14Speaker 2: defense and see it the right way and all that
- 13:17Speaker 2: kind of stuff. That was feels like the thing that's
- 13:19Speaker 2: holding to Mario Douglas back. And this spring, I thought
- 13:22Speaker 2: he looked really sharp and was executing and beat the
- 13:25Speaker 2: blitz a couple of times with Drake may By hating
- 13:28Speaker 2: him quick underneath and those types of things. So again,
- 13:32Speaker 2: long term, I'm skeptical to put too much stock into it.
- 13:35Speaker 2: We do this every year with these types of receivers.
- 13:37Speaker 2: But it is what we saw right like that, That's
- 13:41Speaker 2: what happened in this practice, these practices, And so I
- 13:43Speaker 2: had to Mario Douglas number two.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm I'm with you again. I just think, like
- 13:49Speaker 1: you said, what more could you ask him to do
- 13:51Speaker 1: in this setting? And we're just talking about standouts from
- 13:53Speaker 1: the spring. It doesn't mean anything for the summer. It
- 13:56Speaker 1: doesn't project anything forward for the summer or for the season.
- 13:58Speaker 1: But I'm not sure how much more you could ask
- 14:01Speaker 1: him to do. The spring he did a ton.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, who was your number two? Pop Douglas, Pop Douglas.
- 14:06Speaker 2: All right, we're brought on the same page. There number three.
- 14:08Speaker 2: I kind of combined a couple of guys into one
- 14:11Speaker 2: group on defense, the rotational defenders that I think is
- 14:16Speaker 2: a sneaky impace.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We basically had the lists, well we.
- 14:20Speaker 2: All we sawt we watched the same practice, so that
- 14:22Speaker 2: makes sense. Corey Durden, kJ Britt, Mike Brown. Those are
- 14:26Speaker 2: my three guys that I kind of jotted down. I
- 14:30Speaker 2: think a combination of past the initial eye test of
- 14:34Speaker 2: playing a larger role. Didn't really expect them to play
- 14:37Speaker 2: as large a role as they did in the spring,
- 14:39Speaker 2: Like in the case of a guy like Mike Brown,
- 14:41Speaker 2: who I didn't really have a whole lot of knowledge
- 14:43Speaker 2: about or like really think much of. But you know,
- 14:47Speaker 2: Corey Durden and t One as he told us, you
- 14:49Speaker 2: know kJ Britt, I think looks like a guy that's
- 14:52Speaker 2: you're hoping is going to step into that Jack Gibbons
- 14:54Speaker 2: role as the third linebacker, play a lot on special teams.
- 14:57Speaker 2: And then Mike Brown, I think as a real chance
- 15:00Speaker 2: to make a push this summer to be the third
- 15:02Speaker 2: safety and even give them a package of plays to
- 15:06Speaker 2: play him as a third safety, not just as a
- 15:08Speaker 2: depth guy that is gonna play if somebody gets hurt
- 15:10Speaker 2: so I think that they need that this defense needs
- 15:13Speaker 2: that layer of depth behind some of their frontline guys,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and at least so far, those guys seem to pass
- 15:19Speaker 2: the initial eye test to me.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I specifically was gonna go with the defensive tackles,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and it's not to gauge them in this setting in
- 15:27Speaker 1: terms of their performance because there are no pads on.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Leonard Taylor had a couple of pass breakups, which is
- 15:32Speaker 1: kind of as much as you can do here. Corey Durtin,
- 15:35Speaker 1: just the way the coaching staff talked about him, I
- 15:37Speaker 1: think he's gonna be set up for a much bigger role.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Saw Joshua Farmer kind of get involved a little bit
- 15:42Speaker 1: more so just the defensive tackles as a whole, I
- 15:45Speaker 1: would say, I think you come away feeling pretty good
- 15:47Speaker 1: about where they're at.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a pretty strong position group, and I think
- 15:50Speaker 2: this is the case in a lot of the defensive spots.
- 15:53Speaker 2: But you have Milton Williams and Christian Barmore at the
- 15:56Speaker 2: top of the depth chart, and those guys are gonna
- 15:57Speaker 2: obviously garner a lot of praise in at ten, but
- 16:01Speaker 2: I think that they have some sneaky good players behind
- 16:03Speaker 2: those guys in third and uh even Lenny t I
- 16:07Speaker 2: think can play Joshua Farmer. Hopefully it takes that next step,
- 16:11Speaker 2: you know. So it's a good it's a good group.
- 16:13Speaker 2: So those were our Those are all yours, right, those
- 16:15Speaker 2: are our ups? Yes, Okay, So Drake may Pop Douglas,
- 16:19Speaker 2: you had the d tackles, AJ Brown, you had aj Brown. Yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 2: that that seems like the group the other guys that
- 16:25Speaker 2: I think had the the real standout springs. Now to
- 16:28Speaker 2: the other side, now to the downs. Uh, I just
- 16:31Speaker 2: think he has to be the number one down just
- 16:34Speaker 2: by default. And that's gay Baccus.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I mean I I my number one was just kind
- 16:38Speaker 1: of like I grouped together before. Yeah, the Edge position
- 16:41Speaker 1: as a whole, yeah, uh Harold Landry not being out
- 16:45Speaker 1: there also significant, and it kind of got covered over
- 16:49Speaker 1: by the actus stuff, and I understand why. That's just
- 16:53Speaker 1: as big of a deal to me. I'm kind of
- 16:56Speaker 1: nervous about where the Edge group is right now.
- 16:58Speaker 2: So gay back is you know, just in some not
- 17:01Speaker 2: even at the facility. It sounded like for the Spring portion,
- 17:05Speaker 2: especially Mini Camp. Mike Reese had a lot of reporting
- 17:08Speaker 2: on this over the weekend. A couple of the things
- 17:10Speaker 2: that stood out to me about Reese's report, one was
- 17:14Speaker 2: that he had never signed a participation agreement even to
- 17:17Speaker 2: play without a contract or a practice I should say
- 17:20Speaker 2: without a contract, which is pretty standard boiler plate for
- 17:23Speaker 2: if you're healthy, is to sign that participation agreement. Just
- 17:26Speaker 2: for comparison, Caleb Lomo signed one for a while last summer,
- 17:30Speaker 2: Trevon Henderson played on the or I keep saying, played
- 17:33Speaker 2: practiced on the participation agreement until right before training camp.
- 17:37Speaker 2: He did a whole spring on the just on a waiver.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Essentially that basically the participation agreement says, in not so
- 17:44Speaker 2: many terms, like, we're going to give you this this contract.
- 17:49Speaker 2: This is the rough outline of what the contract is
- 17:51Speaker 2: going to look like. And if you get hurt on
- 17:53Speaker 2: the field in practice in the spring, excuse me.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Well still all right there.
- 17:59Speaker 2: We have no water in this place, and it's a problem.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I did see some beers out in the fridge of
- 18:05Speaker 1: the water. Oh yeah, that's.
- 18:06Speaker 2: A good idea. We're still going to honor the rough
- 18:11Speaker 2: outline of the contract. Yeah, so that that's the participation agreement.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Acus didn't even sign one of those. Reese then also
- 18:19Speaker 2: reported the other part that stood out to me. Obviously,
- 18:22Speaker 2: the knee procedure is what the procedure was. And I
- 18:26Speaker 2: saw Accus on his social media working out with a
- 18:30Speaker 2: sleeve on his left leg. It looked like so maybe
- 18:33Speaker 2: it was a left knee. But then Reese also said
- 18:35Speaker 2: that some teams are saying they had they flagged his shoulder,
- 18:39Speaker 2: some are saying they flagged his knee, some are saying
- 18:41Speaker 2: they flagged his hamstring. One team, I think, said have
- 18:44Speaker 2: flagged his foot like he had like a stress fracture
- 18:46Speaker 2: potentially in his foot. So all in, you know, said
- 18:51Speaker 2: and done it Just there's a lot of things that
- 18:54Speaker 2: right now of an uncertainty. I like to use that
- 18:57Speaker 2: word because I don't want to be, you know, go
- 19:00Speaker 2: too overboard with it. A lot of uncertainty around Gabe
- 19:04Speaker 2: AGAs and I agree with Landry as well. You know,
- 19:08Speaker 2: it's a spot that Mike Rabel tried to pour some
- 19:11Speaker 2: water on at the end of the spring and say, no,
- 19:13Speaker 2: they feel pretty good about this this spot. But I
- 19:16Speaker 2: wonder if that a little bit of that is. I know,
- 19:19Speaker 2: this is a big story, so I'm gonna try.
- 19:21Speaker 1: To maybe I did find it interesting that he was
- 19:23Speaker 1: asked essentially the same question about the tight ends and
- 19:26Speaker 1: said they do plan on adding or they are probably
- 19:28Speaker 1: gonna look at it. You did not say they're gonna
- 19:30Speaker 1: plan on it, but you're read between the lines. Where
- 19:33Speaker 1: are you at with Braiden Swinson? If they don't add
- 19:35Speaker 1: Braiden Swinton becomes the fourth guy, one of the biggest
- 19:39Speaker 1: spotlight players in training camp or I guess if you
- 19:41Speaker 1: really think like Xavier Holmes or you know, Q Hutches
- 19:47Speaker 1: or Mary Gaynor can be that guy. But it seems
- 19:50Speaker 1: like Swinton realistically would be the next guy. Where are
- 19:52Speaker 1: you at with Swinson?
- 19:53Speaker 2: So I really liked the pick when they made it
- 19:55Speaker 2: because I thought it was the right pick at the
- 19:56Speaker 2: right time in terms of this is a guy that
- 20:00Speaker 2: media kind of had as like a top one hundred.
- 20:02Speaker 1: He was seventy on Thesus the Drive and.
- 20:05Speaker 2: He felt and a lot of this stuff that I
- 20:07Speaker 2: heard about it at the time of why he felt
- 20:10Speaker 2: was just about like maturity.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Can coachability was with the athletic it put out.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and like maturity and just like was he you know,
- 20:17Speaker 2: a pro and all that kind of stuff, And it
- 20:20Speaker 2: kind of felt like last year they took that time
- 20:23Speaker 2: to work on that side of things, to mature a
- 20:26Speaker 2: little bit, to follow you know, Arab landries of the
- 20:29Speaker 2: world and guys like that, and show see how you're
- 20:31Speaker 2: supposed to be a pro. This is a summer where
- 20:34Speaker 2: he's got to start to do it on the field.
- 20:36Speaker 2: You kind of give him that red shirt year to
- 20:38Speaker 2: work on himself and work on his professionalism. Now, starting
- 20:42Speaker 2: this year, I need to see him start to make
- 20:44Speaker 2: strides football wise, you know, on the football field. You know,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I don't think we've seen enough right now. Last year
- 20:51Speaker 2: camp didn't really pop, you know, didn't really pop all
- 20:54Speaker 2: last summer. But was that because he just wasn't ready.
- 20:57Speaker 2: You know, he wasn't He wasn't there yet as a pro.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Now it's on him now, he's got to do a
- 21:02Speaker 2: little bit more. I like the skill set. I liked
- 21:04Speaker 2: it in college. I thought he had some pass rush moves.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I thought he had a nice variety to his pass rush,
- 21:09Speaker 2: and he has some speed off the edge. You know,
- 21:11Speaker 2: plays a position the way that they want it played,
- 21:13Speaker 2: especially as a stand up guy. I just think that
- 21:16Speaker 2: he's got to put it all together.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I don't know, I thought, I mean a lot of
- 21:19Speaker 1: the coaches were talking about how he's changed his approach
- 21:23Speaker 1: mentally and just based on what was reported after he
- 21:25Speaker 1: was drafted. You look at that and that's encouraging. Now
- 21:27Speaker 1: we'll see if it translates on the field. But you
- 21:29Speaker 1: kind of heard what you wanted to hear about him
- 21:31Speaker 1: this spring.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, because I think with him it's between
- 21:34Speaker 2: the years, Like it's not about physical ability, It's it's
- 21:38Speaker 2: more about you know, being there and pushing yourself and
- 21:41Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff. All Right, So we both
- 21:44Speaker 2: had like Akis edge rushers rights as number one on
- 21:47Speaker 2: our list, okay, number two, And this one again is
- 21:49Speaker 2: not the sound of any alarm bells. And I will
- 21:52Speaker 2: say I've kind of come to the theory that Romeo
- 21:59Speaker 2: Dobbs might be more of a game player they practice player.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I just wasn't dazzled by him in the spring.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Now again, like a guy like that, that's you know,
- 22:09Speaker 2: a bit a power slot, a big slot, whatever you
- 22:12Speaker 2: want to call it. He's you know, gonna win with
- 22:15Speaker 2: physicality and you know, effort and sort of that that
- 22:18Speaker 2: sort of tenacity that he kind of has. You know, Yeah,
- 22:22Speaker 2: maybe that comes out more in a game setting than
- 22:24Speaker 2: it doesn't a practice setting. But I thought down the field,
- 22:27Speaker 2: him and Drake May are a little spotty, like it
- 22:29Speaker 2: didn't really connect on a lot going down the field,
- 22:32Speaker 2: and underneath it was there. But you know how many
- 22:35Speaker 2: you know, six five six yard passes? You know, am
- 22:37Speaker 2: I gonna be wowed by?
- 22:39Speaker 3: You know?
- 22:39Speaker 1: But yeah, I just I don't think he's a wow player.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I think that's a steady move the chains, Like I
- 22:47Speaker 1: just and there's nothing wrong with that. They have a
- 22:48Speaker 1: wow player now they have aj Brown. So I just
- 22:51Speaker 1: think that's his role. I we talked about this as
- 22:53Speaker 1: a setting where a guy like Tomorrow Douglas always gonna pop.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I think it's a setting that's a little duller for
- 22:58Speaker 1: a guy like like a Romeo.
- 23:00Speaker 2: But do you agree with the general premise that he
- 23:02Speaker 2: didn't he didn't flash.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I would put him on the downs, but he didn't flash.
- 23:07Speaker 1: That is certainly fair.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that there's some some things, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 2: with the role he's going to play. And I'm not
- 23:12Speaker 2: saying that this isn't going to come to fruition, but
- 23:15Speaker 2: just early returns with the role that he's going to play,
- 23:17Speaker 2: a lot of that is going to be chemistry with
- 23:20Speaker 2: Drake May and seeing it the same and seeing coverage
- 23:23Speaker 2: the same and rotation the same and all that good stuff,
- 23:26Speaker 2: and that's going to take time, so I'll give him
- 23:28Speaker 2: that time. I just wish that there was a little
- 23:30Speaker 2: bit more explosiveness, a few more chunk plays in there
- 23:34Speaker 2: than what we saw in the spring. So again, I'm
- 23:36Speaker 2: not like saying it's a bust of a signing or
- 23:38Speaker 2: anything like that, but they paid the guy a lot
- 23:40Speaker 2: of money, and I thought it was just a little
- 23:43Speaker 2: bit muted in terms of what he showed in the spring.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Who's number two?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Number two for me is Dimitri's crown Over or I
- 23:50Speaker 1: guess I could throw a couple of rookies in here,
- 23:51Speaker 1: Demetri's crown over, Eli Rearden, Ondobies or Yeah, those just
- 23:55Speaker 1: those guys just feel like they played positions where there
- 23:57Speaker 1: should be snaps to be won, and we didn't see
- 23:59Speaker 1: a lot of any of them. Yeah, reared in a
- 24:01Speaker 1: little more after Hill got hurt, but it still didn't
- 24:04Speaker 1: feel like he was out there a ton as much
- 24:07Speaker 1: as I expected. Crown Over it looks like is still
- 24:10Speaker 1: behind Marcus Bryant and maybe even James Hudson too. That
- 24:16Speaker 1: looked close, And then we I don't know about you.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I don't remember seeing gobiizor defensively like at all.
- 24:20Speaker 2: No, I actually remember seeing Khalail Jacobs more than I
- 24:23Speaker 2: remember seeing Yeah.
- 24:24Speaker 1: I mean we saw good amount kJ Britt and he'd
- 24:26Speaker 1: a good summer like if we were doing five ups
- 24:29Speaker 1: or spring. If we were doing five ups, I'd probably
- 24:30Speaker 1: throw kJ braid on there. Yeah, he got dinged up
- 24:33Speaker 1: a little bit, so not as much a minichamp, couldn't
- 24:34Speaker 1: build on it. But saw a good amount of Chad Muma,
- 24:37Speaker 1: saw Chad Muma doing some green dots stuff. So some
- 24:41Speaker 1: of those guys just I thought I would see more,
- 24:44Speaker 1: not down because they didn't perform well. But again, so
- 24:46Speaker 1: much of the springs about usage seems like some of
- 24:49Speaker 1: these rookies maybe have more of an uphill battle than
- 24:51Speaker 1: we expected to the spots that they project to ideally
- 24:54Speaker 1: on the depth chart.
- 24:55Speaker 2: So I agree with you, and you know, with the
- 24:57Speaker 2: Rareden thing, and I feel like I am probably coming
- 25:01Speaker 2: across as really negative on Eli Raridan. But it's more
- 25:04Speaker 2: just the totality of this is a guy that you
- 25:07Speaker 2: drafted at the end of the third round at a
- 25:09Speaker 2: position that's a slower developing position as it is and
- 25:13Speaker 2: when I saw him out there, I think he looks
- 25:15Speaker 2: like he fills out this too well. He's got a
- 25:17Speaker 2: great frame on him. You can see some of that
- 25:19Speaker 2: straight line speed. But I do think that he has
- 25:21Speaker 2: a little bit of ways to go in terms of
- 25:23Speaker 2: you know, mass on the frame to be a good blocker,
- 25:26Speaker 2: some of the instinctual stuff as a receiver, just you know.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I feel like his route sometimes he's a little bit
- 25:33Speaker 2: slower because he's trying to think through things and stuff
- 25:36Speaker 2: like that and not running at full speed. We talked
- 25:40Speaker 2: about this a little bit on pu Alex in the
- 25:43Speaker 2: last hour. YEA, the tight end position I think is
- 25:47Speaker 2: screaming for. And look, it was supposed to be Julian Hill,
- 25:50Speaker 2: and it's an unlucky break that he gets injured in
- 25:53Speaker 2: the spring, but I think that it's screaming for a
- 25:56Speaker 2: veteran addition to that room, not just to be camp body,
- 26:00Speaker 2: but somebody that can actually come in and if Eli
- 26:04Speaker 2: Rearden isn't ready out of the shoot to be playing
- 26:08Speaker 2: forty five to fifty percent of the snaps like Austin
- 26:10Speaker 2: Hooper was last year. You can turn to Will Disley,
- 26:14Speaker 2: you can turn to John us Smith. You can turn
- 26:17Speaker 2: to Farroh Brown even one of those types of guys,
- 26:20Speaker 2: because I think it's a lot of pressure and just
- 26:23Speaker 2: sort of a lot of at stake to put that
- 26:25Speaker 2: all on Rriden and the other pivot would be, I guess,
- 26:30Speaker 2: to play even more Regie Gillium, which I love me
- 26:33Speaker 2: some Regie Gilliam, don't get me wrong, but I don't
- 26:36Speaker 2: think you want to be backed into a corner where
- 26:38Speaker 2: now your only option of going heavy is to put
- 26:42Speaker 2: twenty one, you know, to put Gilliam with Henry and Henry.
- 26:46Speaker 2: You know, let's call it what it is. Henry is
- 26:49Speaker 2: not an elite blocker in line by any means either.
- 26:52Speaker 2: So I think that somebody that can sort of lessen
- 26:56Speaker 2: the burden on a guy like both Henry and Raridon,
- 26:59Speaker 2: but especially Rarden, to come right in and contribute right away,
- 27:04Speaker 2: I think is important. That doesn't mean that Rariden can't
- 27:06Speaker 2: pass him eventually, like I think Arden could have had
- 27:09Speaker 2: a chance to pass Julian Hill in some packages in
- 27:12Speaker 2: some you know, types of situations eventually as a rookie too.
- 27:15Speaker 2: But it seems like a lot to ask Raredon to
- 27:17Speaker 2: go out there, like let's say Week one against Seattle
- 27:20Speaker 2: and just be ready to play a regular role. Which
- 27:23Speaker 2: one of the free agent tight ends that I know,
- 27:25Speaker 2: there's been a bunch that have been kicked around, any
- 27:28Speaker 2: one in particular, do you gravitate towards The.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Two that I've kind of been the most interested in
- 27:33Speaker 1: are Pharaoh Brown and Mercedes Lewis.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I didn't think of Marcedes Lewis because I figured he
- 27:39Speaker 2: was retired at this point.
- 27:41Speaker 1: As far as I can tell, he's.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I know that there's I had read that there
- 27:47Speaker 2: had been some injuries with Will Disley, Like I think
- 27:49Speaker 2: Will Disley is probably the youngest and maybe the most upsidymer.
- 27:53Speaker 1: John Fitzpatrick from the Packers.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And then there's always you know, the question
- 27:57Speaker 2: of the Bears have like six tight ends, the Rams
- 28:01Speaker 2: have six tight You have a bunch of tight ends.
- 28:03Speaker 2: They just drafted another one both those teams, did I
- 28:05Speaker 2: believe drafted tight ends? You know? Do you make what call?
- 28:08Speaker 2: You do a call for one of those in the trade?
- 28:10Speaker 2: You know, does Cole Comett interest you? Does one of
- 28:12Speaker 2: the you know, Higbee or one of those Rams tight
- 28:14Speaker 2: ends interest to you? Not for a lot? You know,
- 28:17Speaker 2: you're not giving up another first round pick. But if
- 28:19Speaker 2: you could get Cole Comet for like a third or
- 28:22Speaker 2: fourth round pick, would you do it?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Fourth round pick? Yeah? Probably? The rams tight ends Higbee
- 28:28Speaker 1: interest me too. But if it's just a guy that's
- 28:30Speaker 1: going to come in and block, if you feel good
- 28:31Speaker 1: about the young guys, I don't really need to give
- 28:32Speaker 1: up that much. Like I've said this, I would almost
- 28:34Speaker 1: let ark it in du pre battle for that third spot.
- 28:37Speaker 1: If Arden comes along a little more, let arcing into
- 28:40Speaker 1: pre battle. And some of these guys probably aren't going
- 28:42Speaker 1: to sign until me in August. I would kind of
- 28:45Speaker 1: see what you have and then maybe sign somebody, like
- 28:47Speaker 1: a few weeks in a training camp if you're not
- 28:49Speaker 1: seeing what you want to see.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Fair enough, all right, So we have edge rushers slash acush.
- 28:54Speaker 2: You had the young guys as number two reared in
- 28:58Speaker 2: crown Over those guys will be had wrote me. Adopts
- 29:01Speaker 2: number three down here for me and this one pains
- 29:04Speaker 2: me a little bit. Did the island with land Larison?
- 29:08Speaker 2: I feel like it's taking on a little bit of water.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I thought land Larrison had a good spring.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I thought he was participating. I didn't think that. I
- 29:16Speaker 2: didn't notice him A ton does that make sense. Like
- 29:19Speaker 2: I thought that he was in the mix, and I
- 29:21Speaker 2: thought that he was involved, but especially in a time
- 29:24Speaker 2: of year where it's a passing camp. It's a passing
- 29:26Speaker 2: time of year, and this is a guy that I
- 29:28Speaker 2: was hoping that was gonna be Rex burkheadish, right, like
- 29:32Speaker 2: I receiving back, you know, sub package receiving back. I
- 29:36Speaker 2: wish that I just had saw a little bit more
- 29:39Speaker 2: juice out of him in the passing game, if that,
- 29:41Speaker 2: If that makes sense, Just this should have been a
- 29:44Speaker 2: setting kind of like what we saw just some flashes
- 29:46Speaker 2: from like Trevon Henderson, yea, Like this should have been
- 29:49Speaker 2: a setting where a guy like land Larrison was making
- 29:51Speaker 2: catches out of the backfield at a decent clip and
- 29:53Speaker 2: I just didn't notice him as much as I wanted to.
- 29:56Speaker 2: But he was involved. I just don't know if it
- 29:58Speaker 2: was flashy or I popping.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think being involved is more about this is
- 30:08Speaker 1: more with this time of years about But I he
- 30:12Speaker 1: doesn't seem like a kind of player that that pops
- 30:14Speaker 1: in this. He's power player, He's not a speed player.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Let's see when the pads come on, do you think so?
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't think he's like a quickness, you know,
- 30:23Speaker 2: not like I don't think he's quick in the sense
- 30:27Speaker 2: of of like James White quick, but you know, just
- 30:29Speaker 2: like a smooth change of direction. Guy like I I
- 30:32Speaker 2: when I watch him, I don't think of like, oh,
- 30:35Speaker 2: this guy's gonna finish runs and stuff like that. Is
- 30:37Speaker 2: that how you you look at him?
- 30:40Speaker 1: Yeah? A little bit interesting?
- 30:42Speaker 2: Okay?
- 30:43Speaker 1: Maybe maybe I mean, look, he's not like Garrett Blunt,
- 30:46Speaker 1: but again I compare him to Brain and Bolden, Like
- 30:48Speaker 1: I think his play, I think you think he reminds
- 30:51Speaker 1: me of Bolden.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Okay, maybe I maybe I gotta look at him differently then,
- 30:55Speaker 2: because I look at him as somebody that I think
- 30:58Speaker 2: is gonna make the most headway in the NFL in
- 30:59Speaker 2: the past.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Not I think Brandon Bolden was a good pass catcher,
- 31:03Speaker 1: that's true, but he's not I I think. I don't
- 31:06Speaker 1: think he's a jitterbug. No, he's he's agile, but I
- 31:09Speaker 1: think he he runs hard and I think that's his
- 31:12Speaker 1: best trait.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough, Number three down?
- 31:16Speaker 1: Who do you got Bryce Behinger. I not that he
- 31:20Speaker 1: did anything wrong, but what do you mean they they
- 31:25Speaker 1: brought Mitch McCarthy in for rookie Mini camp. They brought
- 31:29Speaker 1: Devin what was his last name, Devin Bail in for
- 31:35Speaker 1: regular mini camp for a tryout, and now neither of
- 31:37Speaker 1: those guys stuck. But it's very clear they want competition
- 31:39Speaker 1: for him, so and I I would think by training camp,
- 31:43Speaker 1: just given what we've seen, there is gonna be somebody
- 31:46Speaker 1: in here competing. Maybe they pivot to a veteran, you know,
- 31:50Speaker 1: speaking of all the love for Scotland we're doing, Jamie
- 31:53Speaker 1: Gillian Scottish? Right, is he don't think? Isn't he the
- 31:57Speaker 1: Scottish Hammer? Isn't that his nickname? Oh that sounds right, Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 1: he's Scottish. What a better way to kind of bridge
- 32:05Speaker 1: this this connection we have with the with the Scotts.
- 32:07Speaker 1: All of a sudden, then Jamie Gillen, who's a free agent,
- 32:10Speaker 1: have him come in compete for the punting job. Matt
- 32:12Speaker 1: Hacks also available. It just feels like he's going to
- 32:16Speaker 1: have to fight for his job in camp. And I
- 32:17Speaker 1: know I'm saying that is there's nobody on the roster
- 32:19Speaker 1: right now. It's kind of just reading the tea leaves.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I think he's going to have to fight for his
- 32:23Speaker 1: job in a contract year.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Do you think that that's valid, Like, do you think
- 32:26Speaker 2: that his job should be tenuous based off of last season.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I think he got a little more crap for last
- 32:33Speaker 1: season than he should have. I think people look at
- 32:35Speaker 1: the way he punted in the AFC Championship game. There
- 32:38Speaker 1: were some extenuating circumstances there. I do think there's other
- 32:41Speaker 1: games where maybe people miss that he didn't punt as
- 32:43Speaker 1: good as he did. But the fact he's in a
- 32:45Speaker 1: contract year, you know, you kind of have to you
- 32:49Speaker 1: don't really You rarely see punters and kickers go to frequency, right,
- 32:52Speaker 1: A lot of these guys get extensions. Yeah, and going
- 32:54Speaker 1: into the last year. It's just kind of how the
- 32:55Speaker 1: positions manage. So you have to decide right now if
- 32:59Speaker 1: you want to you know, have to decide it. I
- 33:00Speaker 1: guess you'd like to decide this summer if you want
- 33:02Speaker 1: to pay him or on Ryan Allen remember got an
- 33:04Speaker 1: extension in in camp, and uh, they've had a couple
- 33:09Speaker 1: of guys Jake Bailey that's right, too, got an extension
- 33:12Speaker 1: in camp. So this is kind of how you handle
- 33:16Speaker 1: the position, and you want to be really sure before
- 33:18Speaker 1: you pay him. And maybe that's bringing in competition and
- 33:21Speaker 1: making sure that he can beat out what else is
- 33:23Speaker 1: out there.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember in February at the Combine, I was
- 33:27Speaker 2: a little bit surprised that there wasn't a little bit
- 33:29Speaker 2: more urgency to maybe draft a punter in the late rounds.
- 33:34Speaker 1: And I kind of think, if you draft a punter,
- 33:36Speaker 1: your your definatively moving on.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Okay, or I guess maybe just you know, it felt
- 33:41Speaker 2: like the messaging out at the Combine back in February was, well,
- 33:46Speaker 2: we're kind of set at the specialist positions and you know, kicker, punter,
- 33:50Speaker 2: long snapper, And they drafted two of those guys last
- 33:54Speaker 2: year in Borgalis and Ashley. But there wasn't this whole
- 33:58Speaker 2: because we're coming off the playoffs and coming off a
- 34:01Speaker 2: stretch where Baringer didn't really punt very well, especially in
- 34:04Speaker 2: the AFC Championship game, and I guess I expected there
- 34:08Speaker 2: to be more urgency. Now they've showed a little bit,
- 34:11Speaker 2: I suppose the urgency in the spring to bring in
- 34:13Speaker 2: some tryout.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I'm surprised they didn't bring in one of the more
- 34:15Speaker 1: priority udf right.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I think that maybe that's a better way of putting
- 34:18Speaker 2: it in the draftings.
- 34:19Speaker 1: So maybe that's why. Maybe because those guys knew they
- 34:22Speaker 1: could go somewhere and have the job. Yeah, And I
- 34:24Speaker 1: don't think that's I think there's still I say this,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I think they're still very open to Baringer being the punter. Yeah,
- 34:31Speaker 1: but I think they're going to make them win the job.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I like I said, I remember at
- 34:35Speaker 2: the combine that was sort of the scuttle butt around
- 34:38Speaker 2: the specialists, and there was some and look, this is
- 34:41Speaker 2: hardcore of people like us that care about this kind
- 34:43Speaker 2: of stuff, but there were some questioning about whether or
- 34:46Speaker 2: not they were going to be interested in punters, and
- 34:49Speaker 2: the messaging was pretty clearly no. And I was surprised
- 34:53Speaker 2: at the time that they weren't going to be more
- 34:54Speaker 2: interested than those guys. So we'll see, we'll see you
- 34:57Speaker 2: with Baringer. But I thought they AFC champion. I know
- 35:01Speaker 2: the Broncos punter punted pretty like better, right, So if
- 35:04Speaker 2: you're going to compare apples to apples and the AFC
- 35:07Speaker 2: Championship game, it wasn't all the conditions, because the Broncos
- 35:10Speaker 2: punter did better than Bearinger did in those conditions, but
- 35:13Speaker 2: the conditions in the second half of that game, especially
- 35:16Speaker 2: were non like there's nothing you could do. You know,
- 35:19Speaker 2: it was it was, and it wasn't just that the
- 35:23Speaker 2: it was a blizzard. It was a blizzard that kind
- 35:26Speaker 2: of came out of nowhere, right like they weren't really
- 35:28Speaker 2: expecting that much snow and then all of a sudden,
- 35:31Speaker 2: there was like six inches of snow on the field,
- 35:33Speaker 2: just in within twenty thirty minutes as the second half began.
- 35:38Speaker 2: So that that was the big difference. If you know
- 35:41Speaker 2: that you're expecting snow, at least you could kind of
- 35:43Speaker 2: mentally prepare for it a little bit. This was like
- 35:45Speaker 2: a tidal wave of snow out of nowhere. But yeah,
- 35:48Speaker 2: it's interesting. And then obviously in the Super Bowl, the
- 35:50Speaker 2: Seahawks punter just had had a day. He had a
- 35:54Speaker 2: fantastic game, and you know that overshadowed it as well.
- 35:58Speaker 2: All Right, So that's a three up, three down from
- 36:00Speaker 2: the spring. I think that we kind of pretty much
- 36:03Speaker 2: had the similar lists, maybe a little bit different on
- 36:06Speaker 2: the downs, but generally speaking, I feel like that's sort
- 36:09Speaker 2: of where we're at with a lot of these guys
- 36:11Speaker 2: and with the team. Uh So, let's get into around
- 36:14Speaker 2: the AFC East and then we'll open it up for
- 36:16Speaker 2: the calls and emails. Uh eight five five pass five
- 36:19Speaker 2: hundred is the phone number. Uh, Patriots podcast at Patriots
- 36:24Speaker 2: dot com is the email address. I always forget the
- 36:26Speaker 2: email address. I don't know why. It's just one of
- 36:29Speaker 2: those days.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Man.
- 36:31Speaker 3: It's all right, you're doing double duty today.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Doing double duty. And I got to be honest with
- 36:35Speaker 2: you guys. H it's the dead dol drums of the
- 36:38Speaker 2: offseason right now. And uh, and my brain is like,
- 36:42Speaker 2: you know, like in Star Wars where it goes boom,
- 36:45Speaker 2: makes that noise, where that's where we're at. Yeah, that's
- 36:48Speaker 2: where we're at. Like it's it's we're losing it a
- 36:51Speaker 2: little bit, we're losing some steam. But I want to
- 36:55Speaker 2: talk about the Dolphins because I feel like they are
- 36:58Speaker 2: one of the weirder teams right now in the NFL.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I would say, but just to kind of get into it,
- 37:05Speaker 2: because I'm gonna I'm gonna lay down my sword and
- 37:07Speaker 2: admit defeat on Mike McDaniel for you. Good job, you
- 37:11Speaker 2: win this one, you win this round. I still I
- 37:15Speaker 2: feel like Ben Johnson is having a pretty good glow
- 37:18Speaker 2: up in Chicago.
- 37:19Speaker 1: So I'm not Ben Johnson's fine. So on top of
- 37:24Speaker 1: just yeah, I like Ben Jonson a lot more than
- 37:28Speaker 1: I liked Mike McDaniel.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Fair enough, I really don't.
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm not totally out on all of those kind of
- 37:35Speaker 1: coaches being head coaches. I think there's a level to it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I left the door open for Ben Johnson. I think
- 37:39Speaker 1: he's a good football mine. I think he relates to
- 37:41Speaker 1: the player as well. All that Mike McDaniel was a
- 37:43Speaker 1: weirdo who was propped up by a bunch of talent
- 37:45Speaker 1: in San Francisco.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Okay, so Mike McDaniel on a scale of like Kyle Shanahan,
- 37:51Speaker 2: Mike McDaniel, Ben Johnson, Well, this says Mike McDaniel, the.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Scale would go from Sean McVay, well, he's the goat
- 37:59Speaker 1: right to Brandon Staley. Oh god, and Daniel is not
- 38:05Speaker 1: far off from Brandon's not far off. He's better, not
- 38:10Speaker 1: by a lot.
- 38:11Speaker 2: He was better. He was better at coaching and the
- 38:13Speaker 2: things that you Brandon Staley was a disaster in terms
- 38:17Speaker 2: of like game management.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Brendan Staley actively took his team out of playoff game. Okay,
- 38:23Speaker 1: McDaniel's much closer to that side than he is to McVeigh. Yeah,
- 38:27Speaker 1: McVay is the one guy that figured it out. Shanahan's
- 38:29Speaker 1: admittedly more towards that side. Lafleur is probably somewhere in
- 38:32Speaker 1: the middle. I go back and forth on him me too,
- 38:36Speaker 1: although I think last year probably should have been the
- 38:38Speaker 1: end for him. Who else is in that? Ben Johnson?
- 38:40Speaker 1: Ben Johnson's like too new. I need another year before
- 38:43Speaker 1: I decide. Yeah, Ben Johnson's not I'm optimistic about Ben Johnson,
- 38:46Speaker 1: but any more data.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Ben Johnson is a type pant Sky, but he comes
- 38:49Speaker 2: from a different tree, in a different system. He's not
- 38:52Speaker 2: a Shanahan guy.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Where out Who else is in that?
- 38:57Speaker 2: I mean offensively? At this point, I think that that
- 39:00Speaker 2: pretty much is the list.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Uh.
- 39:02Speaker 2: You know, there's obviously coordinators like Joe Well. I guess
- 39:04Speaker 2: Joe Brady's a head coach.
- 39:05Speaker 1: But my whole argument with a lot of these guys
- 39:07Speaker 1: has always been you can be a really good coordinator
- 39:09Speaker 1: without being a good head. I still think Mike McDaniel
- 39:11Speaker 1: is like a good offensive mind. I just don't want
- 39:13Speaker 1: to running my football team. Yeah, so, I think, although
- 39:14Speaker 1: I don't know how him and Harbor are going to
- 39:16Speaker 1: work together, that's a weird it is.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I think Joe Brady is probably now.
- 39:20Speaker 1: The new the new the other side.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I mean, we'll see how he is as a head coach.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I'm trying to think. I think those are a lot
- 39:27Speaker 2: of them, you know, some of them are now are
- 39:28Speaker 2: on defense, honestly, like Jesse Minter and uh, why am
- 39:32Speaker 2: I bringing on the Seahawks Mike McDonald.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I don't hate those guys. Yeah, Donald's obviously great.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Yeah, Like those guys are tight pants defensive minds, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 2: like they're they're schemers on the defensive side of the ball. Oh,
- 39:43Speaker 2: which is maybe a little bit different because I think
- 39:45Speaker 2: thoose defensive guys tend to have a little bit more
- 39:48Speaker 2: game sense. They're not quite as in their their play
- 39:53Speaker 2: sheets as the offensive guys are. They're not as many
- 39:56Speaker 2: calls to make defensively, to be honest with you, you know,
- 39:58Speaker 2: that's a part of it.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I think people wondered for a little bit, how creative
- 40:03Speaker 1: can you get defensively? And now we're getting it. Yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 1: I do. Like you're getting like the the like tight
- 40:09Speaker 1: pant that the image that you know that there was
- 40:10Speaker 1: the old meme where it's like the guy in like
- 40:12Speaker 1: the polo and the tight pants with the visor and
- 40:14Speaker 1: the clean cut. That's the offensive coordinator. And the guy
- 40:16Speaker 1: in the sweatpants with the scraggly hair and the beard
- 40:18Speaker 1: is the defensive coordinator. That's kind of flipped.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yeah, we have we have some put together defensive gurus.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Now, yeah, but then on offense you have like Brian
- 40:28Speaker 1: day Ball and Jim Bob Cooter's back and.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Is Shane Stiken. I think I'd probably count Shane as
- 40:36Speaker 2: the tight pants guy.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I would. So the McDaniel era goes up in flames,
- 40:42Speaker 2: flames out. They never want to play.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Oh.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Here, and here's the one thing I wanted to put
- 40:47Speaker 2: out there. It's a little trivia question for you, and
- 40:50Speaker 2: I kind of just gave it away because we're talking
- 40:52Speaker 2: about the Dolphins.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Okay, I missed what you said for a second, but
- 40:55Speaker 1: go ahead, a.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Little trivia for people out there. The team with the
- 40:59Speaker 2: long strout of winning a.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Playoff game Dolphins two thousand.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, the Miami Dolphins have not won a playoff
- 41:05Speaker 2: game since the two thousand wild Card round against.
- 41:09Speaker 1: The Colton They've been in a couple they've been in
- 41:11Speaker 1: a couple of right, other teams have longer played was mcdamn,
- 41:14Speaker 1: Mariquan get to play in yes side tangent because it's
- 41:18Speaker 1: the summer. We've probably we've been on the air enough
- 41:22Speaker 1: together that we've probably done this take. But I'll bring
- 41:24Speaker 1: it up again when you go through the what ifs
- 41:27Speaker 1: of the Patriots era, right like the teams that they killed,
- 41:32Speaker 1: obviously the big ones, the Manning Colts, the Greatest Show
- 41:35Speaker 1: on Turf, the Legion of Boom. Like these teams they
- 41:38Speaker 1: stopped from being a dynasty, or even like the lt
- 41:42Speaker 1: Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers, Chargers, the teams that probably would
- 41:45Speaker 1: be viewed in a brighter light had they not run
- 41:47Speaker 1: into the Patriots over and over and over. The one
- 41:50Speaker 1: team that always gets left out of that conversation, I
- 41:53Speaker 1: think is the early two thousands Dolphins. You had dominant,
- 41:59Speaker 1: multi Hall of Famers defense, Ricky and then you had
- 42:03Speaker 1: Ricky Williams and the good offensive line, some decent receivers
- 42:05Speaker 1: on offense. Those teams were good. Those were good football teams.
- 42:10Speaker 1: They just played in the same division as Tom Brady
- 42:13Speaker 1: and the Patriots. And to take it a step further
- 42:16Speaker 1: with the what if, what if when they realign the
- 42:19Speaker 1: league to thirty two teams, in two thousand and one
- 42:21Speaker 1: if you think about it geographically, and I understand why
- 42:24Speaker 1: they didn't because there was more with the historical rivalries
- 42:26Speaker 1: and all of that. Which fine, if the Colts stay
- 42:29Speaker 1: in the AFC East and the Dolphins go to the
- 42:31Speaker 1: AFC South. So now you have that Dolphins team with
- 42:35Speaker 1: all that talent. Yeah, there's some good Titans teams in there,
- 42:38Speaker 1: the Steve McNair Titans, but there's not a lot of
- 42:40Speaker 1: good Jaguars teams in there. The Texans are Brad brand
- 42:42Speaker 1: New and then you have Brady and Manning in the
- 42:45Speaker 1: same division. Yeah, like that is to me one of
- 42:48Speaker 1: my favorite what ifs in the NFL. And then again,
- 42:53Speaker 1: just I think those Dolphins teams back then are under appreaching.
- 42:57Speaker 1: You had Jason Taylor, you had Junior seou, Patzertan, Sean Marion,
- 43:04Speaker 1: Zach Thomas, Thomas was they had another really good pass rusher.
- 43:08Speaker 2: On those Most of those teams were coached by Wanstead, right,
- 43:10Speaker 2: Dave Wanstead was the coach. I feel like, yeah, Nick
- 43:14Speaker 2: Saban obviously for like mid two thousand or like.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So when Sabin got there, it kind of fell apart
- 43:19Speaker 1: and they tried to bring in Culpepper. This is like
- 43:21Speaker 1: the Jay Fiedler. Yeah, I was gonna say that was
- 43:24Speaker 1: not that Jay Fiedler was great, but.
- 43:26Speaker 2: That was the one thing I was going to get
- 43:27Speaker 2: to with those Dolphins teams. To just put a little
- 43:31Speaker 2: hole in your argument, is that I believe Jay Fieedler
- 43:33Speaker 2: was probably the best quarterback that they had.
- 43:35Speaker 1: In that Yeah, but this was back before you really
- 43:37Speaker 1: needed that.
- 43:38Speaker 2: I guess, like Trent dilferb was winning super right.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And then let's see who they have on offense. I
- 43:43Speaker 1: remember they had some good receivers. This is the two
- 43:45Speaker 1: thousand and one Aroonde Gadson. Remember Chris Chambers. Ye, good player,
- 43:49Speaker 1: Kurt And then who was who was the tight end
- 43:51Speaker 1: they had? They had like hybrid title receivers.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Kidding. I think Dan Camp.
- 43:55Speaker 1: No, Dan Camp, I think was there later Randy McMichael. Okay,
- 43:59Speaker 1: you remember Randy mc michael, of course, And yeah, they had
- 44:02Speaker 1: Ricky Williams doing his thing. Yeah, and then I'm looking here,
- 44:04Speaker 1: who is the Sammy Knight at safety? Sammy Knight and
- 44:07Speaker 1: Brock mary And were both really good. Sam Madison and
- 44:12Speaker 1: Patrick Sertan were the corners. Terrell Buckley was there at
- 44:15Speaker 1: the end of this former Patriot. I'm trying to remember
- 44:18Speaker 1: who the other pass rusher was. They had somebody opposite
- 44:22Speaker 1: Taylor who was good. I don't remember, and then you
- 44:26Speaker 1: had Thomas and say I was so I don't even
- 44:29Speaker 1: remember this guy. Ata walle Onngley had fifteen sacks in
- 44:33Speaker 1: two thousand and three, but I don't think.
- 44:35Speaker 2: That same was thinking of same sounds familiar.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I'm almost there, all right, So maybe there wasn't. Maybe
- 44:40Speaker 1: I'm imagining the second pass rusher. But Trace Armstrong in
- 44:46Speaker 1: two thousand had sixteen and a half sacks.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Some good players on those teams.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Yes, hey, we're not talking about the Dolphins twenty five
- 44:51Speaker 1: years ago, but those teams are fun.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I love those The Dolphins have not won a playoff
- 44:54Speaker 2: game since two thousand. Yeah, McDaniel got them to the playoffs.
- 44:58Speaker 2: His first two years they lost both wildcard rounds zho
- 45:02Speaker 2: and two, and then as last two years they were
- 45:04Speaker 2: fifteen and nineteen, you know below five hundred didn't make
- 45:08Speaker 2: the playoffs, and back to back seasons and he's out.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I think that there's a couple of different things we
- 45:12Speaker 2: can talk about with the McDaniel, or one of them
- 45:14Speaker 2: is obviously what we just talked about with the type
- 45:16Speaker 2: pants guys and stuff like that, But I think projecting
- 45:19Speaker 2: forward the more important part here. They sort of had
- 45:23Speaker 2: an identity, even though.
- 45:25Speaker 1: It wasn't a very strong idea.
- 45:27Speaker 2: Maybe it wasn't super successful in terms of, you know,
- 45:30Speaker 2: big picture winning playoff games, but they had their identity
- 45:34Speaker 2: of we are fast, and we got a ton of speed,
- 45:38Speaker 2: and we have a system with it that really amplifies
- 45:41Speaker 2: that speed, and we use a lot of motion and
- 45:43Speaker 2: window dressing pre snap and like they had a real
- 45:46Speaker 2: system and against the Patriots it was pretty successful.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Lot.
- 45:50Speaker 2: You know, the Patriots finally beat Tua. Tua was seven
- 45:53Speaker 2: and one against the Patriots in his career with Miami,
- 45:57Speaker 2: and so they were a little bit of a thorn
- 45:59Speaker 2: in the Pageots side in the twenty twenties. They probably
- 46:02Speaker 2: a better team frankly for a couple of those years
- 46:04Speaker 2: than the Patriots were. And now I'm just curious, big
- 46:09Speaker 2: picture wise with Miami, like what is their identity going
- 46:12Speaker 2: to be? And it kind of feels like they are
- 46:14Speaker 2: going from like the soft like player friendly, go along
- 46:19Speaker 2: with the flow kind of coach, goofy kind of coach
- 46:22Speaker 2: to Jeff Haffley, who's kind of hard. Oh, you know,
- 46:25Speaker 2: and that they're they're doing that thing where they're flip flopping.
- 46:28Speaker 2: But again, it wasn't a super successful model, Alex, but
- 46:33Speaker 2: they had they had a model like they did Hill
- 46:36Speaker 2: Wattle eight chan offensive scheme, uh you know, window dressing.
- 46:41Speaker 2: That was the Miami Dolphins. And and honestly, you know,
- 46:45Speaker 2: I was at a lot of those games. Was lucky
- 46:47Speaker 2: enough to go to a lot of those games down
- 46:48Speaker 2: in Miami when it was hot and they were rolling offensively,
- 46:52Speaker 2: it was tough, like it was a tough place to
- 46:54Speaker 2: go down and win a football game. As we know,
- 46:57Speaker 2: where are the Dolphins big picture going? I think is
- 47:00Speaker 2: a nice interesting question as a division opponent because right now,
- 47:03Speaker 2: I don't they have no identity, We have no idea
- 47:06Speaker 2: what direction they're kind of going in.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I would say
- 47:11Speaker 1: if they didn't pay uh, Malik Willis, right, I would say,
- 47:15Speaker 1: they're trying to go to the bottom to get back
- 47:17Speaker 1: to the top. Yeah, but they paid Malik Willison. They
- 47:20Speaker 1: seem to believe in him. How pissed is Malik Willis
- 47:22Speaker 1: that they got rid of all their wide receivers? Right?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Was he aware of that, so right, kind of seems
- 47:27Speaker 1: like they want to win and hold some level of water.
- 47:31Speaker 1: But I don't know. I like Malik Willis. He's not
- 47:33Speaker 1: the quarterback of the future to me. No, So there's
- 47:36Speaker 1: nothing around him, not on offense, not on defense. It's
- 47:39Speaker 1: a teardown of a roster. But they just committed all
- 47:42Speaker 1: this like and look, I mean the Falcons committed all
- 47:44Speaker 1: that my n Kirk Cousins had moved on. So maybe
- 47:47Speaker 1: he's at least a starter for this year, right, Maybe
- 47:50Speaker 1: he's the starter for the year and they still feel
- 47:52Speaker 1: like they're going to get a top pick and they
- 47:53Speaker 1: can dip into this quarterback class. Maybe they put in
- 47:55Speaker 1: a bid on Brendan Sooresby, right, But it's a they
- 48:00Speaker 1: got a long way to go.
- 48:01Speaker 2: So no McDaniel, no to no Tyreek Hill, no Jalen
- 48:05Speaker 2: Waddle anymore. In Miami that was their core four or
- 48:09Speaker 2: five years there. They still have Devin h Chan And
- 48:12Speaker 2: I think the one thing about Malik Willis is that
- 48:15Speaker 2: he looked good when managed in Green Bay when they
- 48:18Speaker 2: put him in an offense, you know, obviously with a
- 48:21Speaker 2: lot of quarterback run element and things like that, a
- 48:24Speaker 2: play action heavy that looked good. Now, Bobby slowk is
- 48:27Speaker 2: the higher out offensive coordinator. He kind of flamed out
- 48:29Speaker 2: with the Texans and had CJ Stride out of the
- 48:32Speaker 2: gate playing really well and didn't really build on that.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I don't know if Bobby Slowick, who's kind of Shanahan
- 48:38Speaker 2: Tree adjacent, I don't know if he's the guy that's
- 48:41Speaker 2: gonna build some option offense that's gonna unlock Malik Willis.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Maybe he is. I really like Hafley as a defense
- 48:48Speaker 2: of mind. I'm not sure about Halfley as as a
- 48:50Speaker 2: head coach, but you know he runs more of like
- 48:53Speaker 2: a four to three, a lot of zone.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Coverage, so that's yeah, that's the bigger question. Mete like Halfley,
- 48:57Speaker 1: this is an interesting spot for him. Yeah, he's a
- 49:00Speaker 1: relative unknown. He did a good job in Green Bay
- 49:02Speaker 1: for a couple of years. Before that, he was head
- 49:03Speaker 1: coach at Boston College. Like, as far as NFL head
- 49:07Speaker 1: coaches go, I think, especially a defensive guy, that's a
- 49:10Speaker 1: thinner resume. Would you say, I'm not saying you didn't
- 49:12Speaker 1: earn it, but that's a thinner resume than some of
- 49:15Speaker 1: the defensive guys you see hired in the NFL.
- 49:17Speaker 2: He well He was the head coach at Boston College,
- 49:20Speaker 2: so he has some head coaching experience at a BS program,
- 49:25Speaker 2: But yeah, maybe a little bit thinner. I think won
- 49:27Speaker 2: him the job is that his scheme in green Bay
- 49:30Speaker 2: defensively became sort of a blueprint for a lot of
- 49:34Speaker 2: defenses against certain teams, especially in that North Division, that
- 49:39Speaker 2: teams sort of were like, oh, this guy's doing some
- 49:41Speaker 2: things over here that are worth talking about, worth mentioning.
- 49:45Speaker 2: A lot of simulated pressures, a lot of you know, disguise,
- 49:48Speaker 2: blitzing zone coverages, two high safety shells, like some of
- 49:52Speaker 2: the it buzzy things that we see happening around the
- 49:55Speaker 2: NFL defensively, and that's all well and good, but their
- 49:58Speaker 2: roster right now is just doesn't have a ton of talent,
- 50:02Speaker 2: and they have a general manager and John Eric Sullivan.
- 50:04Speaker 2: It's also a green Bay guy typically speaking, and I
- 50:07Speaker 2: think this is the way that they've sort of aligned themselves.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Alex typically speaking, green Bay guys are slow build guys. Yeah,
- 50:13Speaker 2: green Bay now Elie Wolf is maybe a little bit
- 50:15Speaker 2: of a departure from that. He's been a little bit
- 50:17Speaker 2: more aggressive than your typical Green Bay guy. But I
- 50:20Speaker 2: think some of that is because he's in New England
- 50:23Speaker 2: and in the Boston sports market, and you can't. The
- 50:26Speaker 2: Boston sports market is not going to allow you to
- 50:28Speaker 2: wait three years until you're good, so you have to
- 50:30Speaker 2: be faster down in Miami. Though, you know you mentioned
- 50:33Speaker 2: the teams in their early two thousands all it always
- 50:36Speaker 2: feels like Steven Ross, their owner is pretty splashy, you know,
- 50:40Speaker 2: like they tend to go out and spend money and
- 50:43Speaker 2: trade for Tyreek Hill and signed Santonio Holmes always comes
- 50:48Speaker 2: to mind, right when we talk about this kind of stuff,
- 50:50Speaker 2: like they they throw money around and their owner has it,
- 50:54Speaker 2: has deep pockets. But this is not the structure for that.
- 50:58Speaker 2: This is a discipplinned, defensive minded head coach with a
- 51:03Speaker 2: disciplined Green Bay packerway court general manager. To me, that
- 51:09Speaker 2: signifies that Miami is going to be a little bit
- 51:11Speaker 2: more deliberate with this thing that's not really their.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Mo It is like you think that South Beach the Dolphins,
- 51:18Speaker 1: mind me, that flashy signing, no offense half, He's not
- 51:20Speaker 1: a flashy signing. No, he's not a household name now.
- 51:23Speaker 1: But I to your point, I think they're going in
- 51:25Speaker 1: the right direction. I think they're gonna be patient this time.
- 51:27Speaker 2: They made a lot of draft picks, a lot of
- 51:30Speaker 2: draft picks. Now some of them I don't agree with.
- 51:32Speaker 2: But they went Caden Proctor, Chris Johnson, the corner, Jacob Rodriguez,
- 51:37Speaker 2: we both really liked. Caleb Douglass was a pretty surprise
- 51:40Speaker 2: pick at wide receiver for them in the top one hundred,
- 51:44Speaker 2: Wilkes Merrick the tight end from Ohio State, blocking tight end,
- 51:47Speaker 2: and then Chris Bell was probably my favorite pick that
- 51:49Speaker 2: they made, just because of where they got him and
- 51:51Speaker 2: the value. The Caden Proctor pick was a little bit
- 51:54Speaker 2: controversial at the time too. They went Caden Proctor twelve.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Overall over probably playing at guard.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Yeah, over some better players that that was, or maybe
- 52:03Speaker 2: not better players, but just players that were also highly
- 52:07Speaker 2: ranked prospects. I think did they draft them ahead of
- 52:09Speaker 2: Caleb Downs Honestly they did They might have been. Yeah,
- 52:12Speaker 2: so that was a little bit of a surprise. But
- 52:14Speaker 2: that's one, two, three, four, five, six picks I think
- 52:18Speaker 2: in the top one hundred.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I hope you're building a core.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that that's the way that there.
- 52:22Speaker 1: They also got Kyle Lewis later, who was expected to
- 52:26Speaker 1: be a top one hundred pick and Kyle Lewis and
- 52:29Speaker 1: Jake Rodriguez together. Man, if that, if that hits, if
- 52:31Speaker 1: that pans out, that's gonna be a whole lot of fun.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting. It's an interesting, uh departure from Miami. Again,
- 52:37Speaker 2: I think in our lifetime, at least in our NFL lifetime,
- 52:42Speaker 2: they've been an instant gratification team. We're gonna we're gonna
- 52:45Speaker 2: draft a quarterback. We're gonna hire the offensive minded, you know,
- 52:49Speaker 2: h hot commodity and Mike McDaniel. We're gonna trade for
- 52:53Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill like that's been. It's been all flash, no substance.
- 52:57Speaker 2: You love to say that about the Dolphins. I feel
- 52:59Speaker 2: like the other thing that they've always been to down
- 53:02Speaker 2: there in Miami is more of like a finesse team
- 53:04Speaker 2: in recent years with McDaniel, and it worked in that
- 53:08Speaker 2: Miami heat, I feel like, and then they get into
- 53:11Speaker 2: these playoff games, you know, especially over the years, they
- 53:14Speaker 2: played some crazy cold.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Games, remember in the play Buffalow.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and they just didn't travel the type of football
- 53:21Speaker 2: they played this they were never good enough on the
- 53:23Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. They just didn't travel. So interesting times
- 53:26Speaker 2: in Miami. I think that they're a team at the
- 53:30Speaker 2: Patriots should go to and O against Is that fair
- 53:32Speaker 2: to say?
- 53:33Speaker 1: Yes?
- 53:34Speaker 2: And they will see what happens with them at quarterback?
- 53:37Speaker 2: You think they might be a Texas tech kid.
- 53:41Speaker 1: So now there's some questions about there's a lot of
- 53:44Speaker 1: questions if the NFL is gonna let stores be play
- 53:47Speaker 1: and like legally could he get in trouble for for
- 53:49Speaker 1: what he did? I somebody could get a first round
- 53:53Speaker 1: pick on there could be no bit on Soorsby. This
- 53:55Speaker 1: whole thing has been I mean, it's a fun storat.
- 53:57Speaker 1: I shouldn't say a fun story. It's been a roller coaster.
- 54:00Speaker 1: It's been a lot to follow.
- 54:01Speaker 2: It's an interesting story. I don't think it's fun.
- 54:03Speaker 1: And yeah it's not fine. It's not ending anytime soon.
- 54:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll see. I think there's two teams in
- 54:09Speaker 2: the AFCs that could be interested in Soreesby if he
- 54:11Speaker 2: makes it to this supplemental draft. When's the last we
- 54:14Speaker 2: did this? A couple of weeks ago. It's like twenty
- 54:16Speaker 2: eighteen or nineteen, the last supplemental draft pick. It's been
- 54:19Speaker 2: a minute. There have been some players that have been good,
- 54:22Speaker 2: Josh Gordon Terrell, pryor. You know, it's not a complete nothing,
- 54:26Speaker 2: but that's that's the Miami Dolphins, in the state of
- 54:28Speaker 2: the Miami Dolphins. And the next week, big week next
- 54:31Speaker 2: week for the around the AFCs. We're gonna do the bills.
- 54:34Speaker 2: We're not gonna argue about it.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Yeah we will.
- 54:36Speaker 2: We're probably gonna argue.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Evan's gonna say they're gonna win Super Bowl eighteen and
- 54:39Speaker 1: oh you have to seventeen and oh whatever, perfect, Yeah,
- 54:44Speaker 1: nothing's wrong with the bills will be Evan's take next week.
- 54:47Speaker 2: All right, let's take this call from Sean and then
- 54:49Speaker 2: we'll hit the brake. What's up, Sean? How we doing
- 54:54Speaker 2: shown you there? I try to take Sean because he's

- 58:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been They're not known for being in a

- 58:42Speaker 2: I feel like you've gotten into it.
- 58:43Speaker 1: More than I. I mean, I'm into the cultural event
- 58:47Speaker 1: wow of it.
- 58:48Speaker 5: Like the.
- 58:50Speaker 1: It's just again I said it before, it's just kind
- 58:53Speaker 1: of cool getting to share the city with people who've
- 58:55Speaker 1: never been here and you know, seeing people experience Boston,
- 58:58Speaker 1: people experience America. It's also I noticed this when I
- 59:02Speaker 1: so I went out it was Saturday, right and watched
- 59:05Speaker 1: the Scotland game in Boston and just being with you know,
- 59:12Speaker 1: some of the fans as they were experiencing and seeing that.
- 59:14Speaker 1: And I don't know, I try not to do this
- 59:16Speaker 1: with with what our job is, but like I don't
- 59:20Speaker 1: get to be a fan as much as I used to,
- 59:23Speaker 1: like just in the moment be a fan, and so
- 59:27Speaker 1: it's really cool in those moments where I do get
- 59:30Speaker 1: to do that, I think I appreciate it more so,
- 59:32Speaker 1: like being in that environment just as a fan, even
- 59:35Speaker 1: if it's first sport. I don't watch a lot, and like, yeah,
- 59:38Speaker 1: I didn't necessarily care about Scotland National soccer until last week,
- 59:42Speaker 1: but like just it was a really cool environment. It
- 59:44Speaker 1: is really cool energy. Soea, I mean again I went
- 59:47Speaker 1: last night and not during the game, but after the game.
- 59:49Speaker 1: I went into Boston, was hanging out with some people
- 59:51Speaker 1: from Norway. I'm gonna go back in on Friday, US
- 59:53Speaker 1: and Scotland back to back. Like just that that energy,
- 59:56Speaker 1: that element of it has been cool.
- 59:57Speaker 2: It's been very cool. We've been out in the city
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: over the weekend a little bit and you just you
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: feel it, you see it. I think a lot of
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: things that have been cool to me have been We
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: take some of these things for granted because we live
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: here and we experience them, and me, certainly I take
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: for granted NFL stadiums. Apparently I've been lucky enough to
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: go to twenty six of them at this point because
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I do travel every season, and I got to be honest,
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: some of the things that I read online from people
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: that are experiencing the NFL stadiums for the first time,
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: it never dawned on me that these are pretty cool
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: structures or just like pieces of architecture in some cases
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: that I never really thought about it like that, you know,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: I think we take them for granted. So that's been fun.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: The soccer has been phenomenal. I mean, it's just really
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: been a really good turn.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: I'll be honest with soccer. Secondary for me, there's some
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: of the games I've watched have been good. I'm not
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: like making a point of watching every game, honestly. Kind
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: of what I've done is if a game looks good,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: unless it's like a big like I watched Argentina the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: other night because I wanted to see Messy right like
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: that's but short of that, if it's like close in
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: the second half, I'll put it on and I'll like
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: watch it down the stretch, like by the time Eve
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: even because I was finishing up work last night the
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Norway game, like that kid had like three goals before
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I turned the game on. Yeah, I saw. I'm like,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: if there's a cool goal set on social media, it's
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: these late games that are tied or it's only one
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: goal that dead. I've had fun watching. There's been a
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: lot of ties.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I think that you know, look, you don't have to
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: be a big fan of the sport itself, but you
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: to like understand that watching greatness and athletic like athletic greatness,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: I think is just cool no matter what. Yesterday you
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: had a trifecta of Bape early Harlan with Norway and
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Messy at night. Yeah, It's like it just even as
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a sports fan, it just doesn't get much better than that.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: To just see three guys that are you know, Messy
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: might not be quite at his peak, but he's still scored.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Meanwhile, sounds like Rinaldo did like nothing in this game.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: Yeah watched, although I said it on Puver and all
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: those is a little bit washed. He's forty one.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: I mean forty one.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's older than MESSI but to see something like that,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: even if you don't like the sport. And I would
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: also just say, because I gotta get this out, because
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: I've just been really excited about it since Friday night.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: To have a US men's team play as well as
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: they did in a World Cup game as they did
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: the other night against Paraguay was just all sorts of
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: exciting for me as somebody that you know, we've been
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: through some dark times like US men's national team. I'm
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: trying to think of a good top because they're not
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: like the worst team in the world, right, Like it's
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: not like they're like the Browns or the Jets or
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: something like that of international soccer, but they've just are
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: a never really truly have a chance to win it,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: and they're kind of just a Middler. You know, they're
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: just always stuck in like purgatory of like good enough
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: to be competitive, but not good enough to actually win.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: The other night, I was the best game I've ever
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: seen them play. And I've following US soccer pretty closely
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: for most of my like adult life, and that was
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: the best I've ever seen them play. And it was
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: It was pretty exciting. And I think that, you know
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: that all these different things coming together at once, like
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: could really uh present like sort of a moment here
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: and if with soccer in this country to be hosting
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: the World Cup, to have a competitive US men's team,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: you know, if all that kind of comes together all
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: at once, and this could be a pretty fun summer,
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Like this could be something pretty cool. So I hope
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: it does because that's good for the game. That's good
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: for the game. It was also really good. We got
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: an email in from from Anthony was ragging me about
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: the Knicks. I also love that this is happening at
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: the same time that the Knicks won their first title
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: in fifteen.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, all the Knicks fans, like my
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: friend Bradley down the hall, are telling me that that's
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: not true, that that didn't happen. Okay, I don't know
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: about that, but uh, you know, the Knicks run happens,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: And honestly, I felt myself to make it Patriots because
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: it's a Patriots show. I felt myself thinking more about
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: it from a Spurs standpoint than a Knicks standpoint. Okay,
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: So the Spurs I feel like were more inevitable than
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: the Patriots, certainly because they had Wemby, and Wemby was
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: always going to be good. You know, Wemby was always
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: going to be a big deal in the NBA. But
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: the Spurs last year, or I guess two years ago,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: if you want to say last year is over were
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: a lottery team. They picked Dylan Harper I think number
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: two overall. I mean some of that was ping pong
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: ball luck. But they were a bad team. Wemby did
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: you know. It was hurt a lot of the year,
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: I believe, but they were just not a good basketball team.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: And they kind of did the Patriots thing. They kind
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: of went from worse to first in a lot of ways.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: But what happened was is they climbed the mountain. They
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: got to the NBA Finals, just like the Patriots got
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl. And they just kind of weren't ready,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Like they just weren't ready for that stage, and they
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: weren't ready to win it. And we we talked about
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: this a lot in twenty twenty two, probably with the
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: twenty twenty two Celtics. We're talking about it with the Spurs,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: We're talking about it with the Patriots. I just think
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: it goes to show just in all sports, and basketball
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: probably happens more frequently than others, but in all sports,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: you kind of have to lose before you win, yeah,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: and you have to taste your own blood a little
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: bit before you win. And both those teams, it made
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: me feel the same way. They kind of both arrived
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: a little bit earlier than they were supposed to with
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: the Patriots and the Spurs. Yeah, and they got to
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: that point, you know, at the end there, and they
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: just weren't ready for the moment. And the Spurs probably
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: had a better chance of flipping that series, and the
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: Patriots ever did flipping the Super Bowl, but the Spurs
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: got you know, bounced in five games by the Knicks.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: It wasn't like it was a long, competitive seven game series.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: So I feel like that that always type of stuff
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: always interests me because you know Wemby is you know
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Wemby and Drake May is now on his way to
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: being one of the faces of the league in the
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: NFL and one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: And both those guys losing the title round. You know,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: they both come up a couple of games short, or
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: a game short in Drake May's case. But congratulations to
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the Knicks. All right, that's the best I can do.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Where are you with Giannis? You want your honest? You
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: don't want you honest?
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: He might just is it him or me? There's something
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: that's a team choked. You know how I feel about chokers.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: You can't that that's an ingrained identity.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Thing the Celtics team, do you mean?
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Well? I did I forgive the Celtics for blowing two
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: twenty point leads the Knicks last year?
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: No?
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: I did not, and so I'm not gonna do it
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: to the Spurs now. The question is were the lights
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: too bright for Giannis or for Wemby? Or is Mitch
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Johnson so bad that he can't even win with Wemby?
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Okay, So I think that this is an interesting conversation
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: about coaching in the NBA that probably just people that
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: listen to this show do not care about one one bit.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: But I hear what you're saying. I think that to
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: me in all of these sports, I think that there's
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: just something to be said for the simplest thing is
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: the truth, and that is that sometimes the lights are
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: just too bright and in there.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: But who are the lights too bright for Wemby? Mitch
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: jo there too bright for dearon Fox?
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: Probably all a combination of all the above. But Wemby
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: is twenty two to twenty three years old. It would
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: have been like him and Bill Walton as like the
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: two guys that won a title at that age. Sure,
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: you know Drake may football, it happens a little bit more.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Brady was younger, Mahomes was younger, But it doesn't it's.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Still not well. I mean, I did this with Jason Tatum.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: For a while. It was Jason Tatum can't get over
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: the hump, can't get over the hump, can't go to
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: and people were talking about like he was incapable, and
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: I remember saying, like he's still young. He hasn't. You
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: haven't gotten over the hump until you have. Everybody at
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: a point in their career like There's never been a
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: rookie quarterback as one of Super Bowl, right, Right, So
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that's kind of where I'm at with Wemby is like
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I'm not willing to label him with this yet, especially
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: because I think the coach might be a huge part
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: of it. But it's he's gonna have to prove it.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: He's gonna have to prove that it's not the case.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: And you know, I'd say the same for Drake. Drake
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: had a bad playoffs. He didn't play well in the playoffs,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: especially compared to the regular season, Like he adds some
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: down performances. I'm not willing to sit here and say
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Drake May is anti clutch, Drake May sucks in the
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: playoffs a lates or two bright No, by no means
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: it's been one run. It was his first run. But
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: when we get back to the playoffs next year, like
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: that's gonna come back up and he's gonna have to
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: prove that that's not the case.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: You know what I think isn't fair is during the
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: regular season. And I'll say this for Wenby two because
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: people do this in sports all the time, like say
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: the Patriots start off six and zero, right, just hypothetically, well,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: what does it matter, he's gonna suck in the play
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: You can't do that. Yeah, Like, you're just gonna have
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: to see in the playoffs. But that's where I think
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: it's the same thing. I'm not willing to put a
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: label on either of them yet, but it's a reality
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: now that they're gonna have to disprove.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: I would say, you know, because obviously there's less games
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: in a playoff run in the NFL than there is
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: in the NBA. Yeah, Wemby was pretty darn good for
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: the first three round. He was not very good in
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: the well.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: So this is the other thing with Wemby is because
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: and this is why I was admittedly a little hesitant
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: about Wemby when he like I wasn't buying the hype
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: as much as everybody. And it was because those big
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: lanky guys rarely last physically, they have problems. The Spurs
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: manage his minutes tremendously during he only played twenty nine
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: minutes a game during the regular season. Instead of doing
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: the thing where stars only play like sixty games, they
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: did a different load manage where he didn't play a lot,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: which allowed him to play every game. But the flip
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: side of it is Okay, Now we need him to
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: play forty minutes a game in the playoffs, and he's
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: just not conditioned for that. So they're gonna have to
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: figure out a way to better ramp him up because
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: he was it was too much of an adjustment for him.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: I think to go from playing twenty eight minutes a
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: night to go play forty minutes a night in the
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: playoffs in a more intense game.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: So I'm gonna take a shot out at one of
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: my guys as a green teamer in Luke Cornett a
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: little bit. There might be a there might it be
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: the possibility that Wemby is like a thirty to thirty
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: five minute of a game guy and he's just he's
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: just too big and it's just carrying around too much
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: length and weight to play at a high level for
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: forty minutes in a playoff game.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: So if I'm the Spurs, Cornett's fine, but he's not
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: a guy that you can really trust in a playoff
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: game to fill in those minutes.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, at a high level.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: I wonder if they look at it and think instead
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: of trying to push Wemby to a point where he
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: can play thirty eight to forty playoff minutes at a
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: high level.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: What if we get it better, they have to go back.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it get a better backup center. Uh, it's it.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: I just think it's interesting out It really looked in
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: a lot of ways like the Spurs were the better
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: team on paper than the next and then they got
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: to the finals and it just the all the young
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: players besides really Dylan Harper. Dylan Harper was pretty solid,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: but all the young players just kind of melted once
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: they got to the finals.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: And the kind of the same thing happened with the Patriots.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: I asked you and you went back to the Spurs.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: Where are you with Giannis? You want? Do you want
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: to sell this trade?
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: For you?
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Honest? What do you think they can do without trading
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Jalen Brown? Yeah? Absolutely if they do. I don't know,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I've never been as but you know this,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I've never been as big into honest as everybody else.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: So I thought everybody's a little too high on it.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: But don't be me wrong. I mean, he's a tremendous player,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: but yeah, I've never thought he's on that level that
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: some people put him to. He had a great you
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: know when they read the title a great run. But
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: that's what I say. I think Jalen Brown's better. I
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: just I like the combo with the If Jalen Brown
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: is happy, I mean, that's the wild card. If Jalen
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Brown doesn't want to be here, you have to trade him.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: If Jalen Brown's fine being here with Tatum, like I
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: think you keep building around that duo. I'd rather see
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: them at it at a true center. Like I when
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I was also on sportsb the other night, we had
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: a Celtics right on, he mentioned like Sibonis, right, yeah,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: if you could go out and get Sibonis and add
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: him to what you already have, Jannis is more boom
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: or bust. I think there's certainly more upside if that works.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: It all so feels like something that could blow up
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: spectacularly in their face. This is an older guy who's
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: game tremendous at what he does, but is not exactly
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: a well rounded player. Whereas if you just kind of
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: add you know, a center to what you have, so
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: a bonus or I forget the kid's name in Miami,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: like you're just kind of building on what you already have,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: you know where I stand. My bigger issues with the coach,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: So how big of a swing do they feel like
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: they need to take?
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: So I have never been more conflicted with a trade
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: scenario than I am with flipping Jalen for your honest
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Jalen is a Celtic. He's a guy that was drafted
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: by the team. His number, his jersey should be retired
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: by the Celtics when he retires from basketball. He is
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: a Celtics Tall of Famer caliber type of player, Finals MVP,
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: multiple All Stars. It's a tough one, but I can
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: see the pros of Giannis. He's a better player when
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: he's healthy. He's got a higher ceiling as a player.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: Maybe the Jay's thing has run its course as a
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Green teamer. A piece of me that would almost rather
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: see them try to, you know, accomplish another championship and
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: maybe even fail going out on their shield with the
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: Jays than to just kind of like buy one by
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: flipping Jalen Brown for Giannis as a mercenary and winning
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: one that way. But there's also the parallels I saw
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: the other day of you know, KG was around thirty
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: one years old when they got traded from Minnesota to
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Boston and they you know, it opened a window. You know,
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: they won a championship and they had to run there
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: for a couple of years. Probably should have won multiple
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: So it's a one that I'm very conflicted on and
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: we'll see what happens with all that. Somebody has an
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: eighty two and HO lineup for us, but this eighty
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: two and OHO lineup, Alex has nineteen sixties Wilt Chamberlain,
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: which I'm not I'm not picking on anybody. All right,
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: good job you got eighty two and oh, but the
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: hard one is getting it without Golden State Warriors nineteen
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: sixties Wild Chamberlain.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Right, I mean as Wilton Kareem are the two kind
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: of like cheat coods.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: So he go, this is his eighty two and oh lineup.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Let's see how what do you think about it? Stefan
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Marberry at the point h Tracy mc McGrady. The two
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: guard Dominique Wilkins, and this one is Clippers nineties Wilkins,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: which is like he was starting to slow down at
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: that point a little bit. This is not peak Dominique.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Charles Barkley with the Phoenix Suns in the nineties and
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: then Golden State Wilt. I'm a little bit surprised at
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: that team win eighty two and oh. That feels a
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: little bit like the Wilt the Wilt machine.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I still have not gotten twenty to oh on the
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: football one.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: And if you haven't gotten twenty and oh on the
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: football one, I don't know who's going to get twenty
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: and oh on the football one. I mean that's one
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: of us. Can't get something.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: Okay, No, we're not gonna do this on the show.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Though, No we're not. No, I feel like that's gonna
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: be bad.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I just pulled one off and I got twenty one
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: to twenty five Cleveland Browns. What do you even do
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: with that offense? Twenty What twenty one to twenty five
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns?
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Said Nick Chubb? Maybe I guess, Nick Chubb, this is
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: from Jimmy and Kansas, he said. I usually listen late,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: so I hope this gets through. But I just wanted
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: to let Evan know that I appreciate his inadvertent occasional
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: swear word. I understand why your higher ups might not approve,
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: but when using good moderation of well, time's work and
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: really add some emphasis. Jimmy, I I'm with you. But
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: it's not it's not a it's not professional to swear
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: on the air. But you know, every once in a while,
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: there's just not a there's not.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: A better word outs there's just that it does happen
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: There's not a better word. Uh, do you have a
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: take on you soccer development, because we're getting a lot
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: of emails about that about you soccer development. Paul said
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: the thing on Unfiltered that I feel like a lot
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: of people default to, which is like if our best
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: athletes played soccer, then we would be the best soccer country.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: Would be better. I don't know, if we'd be the best,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: would definitely be better.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: You know that That bothered me as you can imagine.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: So I was like, come on, like what a let's
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: not say something.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: That that's true at all. No, I really can't agree
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: with that.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: I just like I can just feel the cringing happening
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: from everybody that listens to our shows, that from overseas
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: when they hear stuff like that, because it's like, if
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: it was that simple, then why you know, then just
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: do it then.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: I guess even if we liked soccer as much as
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: even England, like if it was ingrained just like in England. Yeah,
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: I do think that we have too many options, like
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: too many things to choose from to just be dominating
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: at soccer as well.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: You know, I just don't we have too many things
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: to choose from. I also just you know, I think
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: that this assumption that our athlete is so far superior
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: to everybody else's the American competition.
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: Fine, yes, America has competition, fair enough, man, I get that,
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: but we don't have you know, nothing. I think that
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: a huge thing is the culture culture in other countries
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: where the only thing they have is soccer, and it's
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: not even just sport wise, but like life wise, like
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: we have.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: We could go like we have music, like we're we're
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: passionate about music.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: Yea.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: Oh the places it's like no, soccer is the only
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: way you're getting out that.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: That's a I think true for a lot of the
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: smaller countries that are absolutely that are good in the
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: World Cup. You know, some of the South American countries
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: probably especially. But I'll tell you though, like watching I
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: think one of the things that I hope that comes
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: out of all this World Cup FIFA fever is like,
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: how do we build on the momentum, like it can't
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: just happen every only every thirty years when the US
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: hosts a World Cup, or every four years when the
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: World Cup happens with the men's national team. Like, there
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: has to be a way that's soccer in general and
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: FIFA and or you know, domestically here in the United
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: States that we can kind of capture the people's excitement
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: for the sport. Let's get back to football. Here's a
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: question from Dell, who is from London, but he's asking
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: us about football. With the addition of AJ Brown, another
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: year of Drake any experience is retaining the division crown
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: enough for a realistically good season. So if they win
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: the AFC, start you happy with that?
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: I call that the baseline. You know, probably should win
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: one playoff game. You don't want to be losing playoff
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: games at home. But I don't know, I'd have to
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: see how they lose that playoff game. But yeah, I
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: think they you're not talking about backtracking if they win
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: the division. I guess I would say, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: You know, I'll play your side of the street right
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: here a little bit. I feel like the Bills celebrate
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: winning the division, like that's a like that's a huge.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: So I don't think I think we need to do
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: better than No, I don't think they'd celebrate it, but
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: I don't think what was the exact wording.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: There would that be? Like would you be satisfied?
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I that would be enough. I don't think you'd celebrate it,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: but I wouldn't consider it like a bad season, you
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: know what I mean? Yeah, that's probably like the baseline. Like, Okay,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: they they maintained. They didn't do anything more than maintained,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: but they maintained.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I would say, I don't expect them to go on
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: a run to the super Bowl every single year anymore.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: Like that was Brady era, Dynasty era times, and I
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: think that's too high of.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's what some people are gonna expect
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: because that's just what they're conditioned to around here.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: But yeah, I think winning a world yeah playoff game
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: is fair enough. Yeah, Like I think that that, especially
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: if you're hosting the playoff game. If you're winning the
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: division and you're hosting the playoff game, I think that that's, uh,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: that's good enough. This is from Barton Poland fun fact
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: about Jamaica, because we brought up Jamaica earlier in the show.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Jamaica actually lost to the Congo in the World Cup
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: qualifying playoff, and the Congo just drew Portugal, So Jamaica
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: was one of the last teams out of the World Cup. Apparently,
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: so they just barely missed in the forty eighteen World Cup. Though,
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: if you're barely missing your you're like the fiftieth best
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: team in the country or in the world. Excuse me,
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: I think that that you're good. There a few more
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: emails here, had a few more. Let's scrolling down here.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: These ones are old.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: What else we got?
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: We got a lot of old emails that I'm trying
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: to go through that we didn't get to. Okay, let's see,
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: we've read a lot of these.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: I feel like we never get to any of the emails.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Now suddenly we need them in what we're backed up.
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I know we got no nobody calling this when
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: we changed the showtime. I know this is what you
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: get for not reading emails when we change the showtime.
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: It's tough. I feel like when we change up show
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: times or later on in the afternoon, people aren't expecting
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: us uh to be on the air.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: Uh oh.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Here here's one from Ellen, Wisconsin. How crazy would it
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: be to trade one of the wide receivers Booty or
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: Pop Douglas to the Giants, uh in a trade for
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: cave On Thibodeau. Where are you at with the cave
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: on Thibodeau thing?
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: I mean, I've been talking about this a lot. Booty
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: for Thibodeau makes a lot of sense. You probably have
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: to throw in a pick too. I think that's absolutely
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: something they should explore. I think it makes teams better.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I think it makes them better in the short run.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Not crazy at all, would make a whole lot of sense.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: So I guess my question is is where the Giants
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: have like thirteen receivers on the roster. I know some
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: of them are kim I know, I know, but like
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: they how worried are they truly about Molik Neighbors Because
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: it feels like a lot of people saw it. Need well,
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: I guess the point I'm making is a lot of
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: people saw them sigew they signed like Odell Beckham back Juju, Right,
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: they signed all these guys, and everybody made it about
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: Melik Neighbors and it's like signing a sixth wide receiver,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: you know, guy that maybe might be your fifty sixth
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: wide receiver isn't really about your superstar receiver coming off
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: of major injury, whereas trading for kaishon Booty is not.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: That's not about adding numbers, that's about adding a guy
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: that can actually play, like make an impact. I feel
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: like that's a much different. I feel like we lose
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: the plot there a little bit. Sometimes we look at, Oh,
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: they added you know, a body on the on the
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: wide receiver room. Yet that's not Odell. No one's expecting
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: Odell Beckham Junior to go back to being like a star, right,
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: So maybe Booty's that guy. Here's an email from Scott
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: He asks or says he doesn't hear anyone mentioning the
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC as an improved team with
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: the improvements on the defensive side of the ball to
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: go with their receivers, to don't sleep on Cincinnati.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Where do you?
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Where are you at with the Bengals, because like I
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: feel like the Bengals, I'm still I still need to
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: see they made that one Super Bowl run, they haven't
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: really been able to recreate that magic since I guess
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: they did make it back to one AFC championship game
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: after that, right, yes, but I feel like I'm done
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: with Bengals. I'm done with it.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I still think they're incredibly talented offensively, they've just had
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: injuries and then their defense is a teardown. So if
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: Joe Burrow can stay healthy, they can get anybody in
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: the conference. But Joe Burrow has to stay healthy and
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: the receivers have to stay healthy because they don't have
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: will a room on defense to work around that.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: I don't believe in the coach. I'll just say it.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: I don't know why they keep the can on to
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: the coach. I understand the quarterback keeps getting hurt and
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: that's a factor. And if your quarterback, and especially one
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: of Joe Burrow's caliber, keeps getting hurt, like you can't
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: do anything about that to an extent, but I just
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: don't think that Zach Taylor is ever going to be
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: the guy. You know, he's a fair he's a fine coach,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: but is he really going to be the guy that
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: gets you to the promised Land. I'm not sure. Sean,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: and Vancouver is back on the line. What's up, Sean?
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: Thank you?
- 1:23:32Speaker 8: Sorry I was cut off before. I have two questions
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: one World Cup related and the other Patriots. So here
- 1:23:40Speaker 8: in Vancouver it's World Cup crazy. All the streets are closed.
- 1:23:44Speaker 8: I'm so glad that I don't know a car. Everything
- 1:23:46Speaker 8: is shut off because they have these street shows with
- 1:23:50Speaker 8: giant screens, and the Science World is converted to this
- 1:23:54Speaker 8: giant red, wright and blue soccer ball. That's the entrance
- 1:23:57Speaker 8: to BC Place, because BC Places downtown. You walk from
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: there to get to the stadium if you have over
- 1:24:03Speaker 8: a grand to afford a ticket, and it's just insane.
- 1:24:07Speaker 8: There's just so much stuff. But I know that Boston
- 1:24:10Speaker 8: Stadium is an hour's drive from Boston, so I'm wondering
- 1:24:13Speaker 8: what the city of Boston is like in terms of
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: World Cup. Is it centered there as well or is
- 1:24:19Speaker 8: everything down in Foxborough? And the football question, the Patriots
- 1:24:23Speaker 8: question that I have is about Landry last year. He
- 1:24:27Speaker 8: was great when he started, got injured and I'm wondering, like,
- 1:24:31Speaker 8: do you expect him to be back to near where
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: he was before the injury, and if so, when will
- 1:24:38Speaker 8: that happen? And I'll take that.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: Off the air.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Thanks for the call, Sean, I appreciate it. To the
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: second question first, and then we'll do the non football topic. Second,
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: I don't have a whole lot of expectations for Harold Landry.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest. Now, that doesn't mean that I
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: don't think that he can add any value as a
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: veteran player and a rable guy and a captain and
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: all that kind of stuff. I think that inherently adds
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: value to the team on its own. But what we
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: saw last year, I felt like it was a guy
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: that was starting to break down physically. He mentioned the
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: hot start, you know, the numbers back it up. His
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: pressure rates, his you know, whatever metric or stat you
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: want to use to measure pressure on the quarterback just
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: fell off a cliff after that, New Orleans scare, the
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: injury scaring New Orleans, and I just don't have a
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: whole lot of expectations. If they get something out of
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: Harold Landry that resembles the pre injury Harold Landry, then great, Yeah,
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: but I'm not counting on it. Which is why I
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: feel like I'm so worked up about the gay backus thing,
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: because I feel like Akis is supposed to be the
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: one that lessons of the burden on Harold Landry.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: How much expectations do you think they have for Harold Landry,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I think is the bigger question.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Probably a little bit more than I do. But I
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: don't think it's a ton more because how could you like,
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: it's a guy that at his age has played a
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: lot of football. I mean, Rabel said it. They basically
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: had a told him to sit out the spring because
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: you know, they're just trying to get him right and
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: trying to keep him healthy. My expectations are pretty low.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: I don't know about you, but that's where I'm I'm
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: sort of that with it.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I again, the player he was second half last year.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: If he's still rehaving that, that's a serious injury. We
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: saw what he was last year and if that is
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: what it is like, then they're gonna need Actus or
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: somebody else to step up.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Yeah. To the second the World Cup question, I feel
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: like it's definitely more downtown Boston.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: So it's also apparently like Providence is a ton going on. Okay, cool,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: So I think it's everywhere. I think it's Boston, Providence
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: and Fox because people are staying, people are staying all over.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I know, I got to just find
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: a place to stay.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: So I know there's there's people on the Cape, people
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: like Scottish fans staying on the Cape Tucket. I know
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: out in in Hall. My my parents said they saw
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: people at one of like a lot of people one
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: of the it's everywhere. I mean, I was out of
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: Barn Quincy the other night, a lot of people in Quincy.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: It's it's it's really everywhere.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it is pretty cool how much it's taken over.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: I think that's what's different, because it's trying to think
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: of a comparison, and the city is alive when a team,
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: one of the local teams goes on a playoff run
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: like last year and the Patriots are on their run,
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: or the Celtics in twenty twenty four, or the Red
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: Sox when they have had their World Series runs, like,
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: the city does come alive, but it doesn't have this
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: influx of tourism where there's twenty thousand extra people that
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: are coming into Yeah whatever, it is like that, it's
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: all the same. The amount of people that are that
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: are out and about and have a hop in their
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: step is this is the same amount as it is
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: when there isn't a playoff run. Now you have like
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: that kind of excitement of like a deep playoff run
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: for a Boston sports team, but with like whatever many thousands,
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: tens of thousands of extra people coming flocking through the city.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: So it's kind of a crazy sort of phenomenon that's
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: going on. Eldrid is on the line. What's up, Eldrid?
- 1:28:04Speaker 9: Hey tell us? How y'all doing good?
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: Hey, Evan. I hope they don't trade Jalen. I'd rather
- 1:28:12Speaker 9: keep the Jays and just build around everywhere else. But
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: I hope he don't go. I think he should be,
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: you know, retired Hall of Fame also, but I got
- 1:28:21Speaker 9: a question for y'all. Uh Edge Russian, uh Ken Tibodol?
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: That guy is it? Because he's in the what's fiffy
- 1:28:32Speaker 9: year and he can be seeking a contract after you know,
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: this year. That's why they ain't try to move on him,
- 1:28:37Speaker 9: even though uh Akis is you know hell Fang and
- 1:28:42Speaker 9: Landry or do you think it's just they're gonna try
- 1:28:45Speaker 9: to try it in that room what he was talking about,
- 1:28:47Speaker 9: and I don't think they got enough.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: What do y'all think?
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Thanks? Al just as he asking why why not trade
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: for Thibodeaux?
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Basically, I think why are the Giants trading thiboda.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: Well, so Thodau' is on his fifth year option. This year,
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: he's playing on fifth year option for the Giants. He
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: needs a new contract. The Giants have done nothing but
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: draft edge rushers for the last couple of drafts. You know,
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: they draft Abdul Carter obviously, they have Brian Burns, who
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: they traded for. They draft the Ohio State kid this
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: past draft. You know, they've just added a lot of
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: pass rushers to that group. And they also have Thibodeaux.
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: So they have like four guys that they're heavily invested in,
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: and Thibodeau is in a contract year and sort of
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: the odd man out. I like the idea of making
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: that trade. But I think the biggest reason why I
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: like the idea of making the trade not just because
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: I think Thibodau' is a solid player. I would just
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: they've come really far with this roster, and I would
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: just hate to come this far, just to come this far, right, Like,
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: and then you get into the season and you're just
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: an edge rusher short and you knew it, and you
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: knew it in June that you were an edge rusher short.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: It's kind of the same way I feel about tight
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: end without Julian Hill now in the picture, Like you
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: feel like you just see these problems, these holes on
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: the roster and it's a Super Bowl roster pretty much
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: everywhere else. But do you have enough edge pass rush?
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Do you have enough of depth at tight end? Like
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: these are things that you can conceivably take care of
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: so that you're not just standing on the tracks waiting
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: for the train to come, you know, yeah, And I
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: would just hate to get into January and they lose
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: a playoff game because they can't get anybody any pressure
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: on the quarterback. And you know, one of these quarterbacks
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: lights them up in the playoffs, and you're like, we
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: said six months ago that they didn't have enough pass rush, right,
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: And I'm sure they feel the same way. That's why
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: I feel like, if you're gonna go all in and
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: you're going to trade a first round pick for AJ Brown,
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: and you're gonna pay a nice contract to Romeo Dobbs,
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: and you're gonna bring back all the guys, you know,
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: the highly paid guys from last year. If you're gonna
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: do all these things, then just do it, Like, just
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: go all in at that point, like you're already ninety
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: percent in you already traded a future first round pick
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: for AJ Brown, So what's a third round pick or
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: a fourth round pick plus Kasehan Booty for Keeveon Thibodeau
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: at that point, Like, you've already done it, You've already
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: pushed your chips in the middle. Just push them all in.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: They I I think I've done this ran a lot
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: that like they we we've been so focused on them
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: in the five year window because they're rebuilding team and
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: now they're not just trading Kaishan Booty for cave On Thibodaux,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: like Kaisham body in a pick kind of knock into
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: your long term window. Yeah, maybe a little bit. But Thibodeau,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: you're trying to get back to Super Bowls here. Who
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: helps them do that more Thibodeaux or Booty Thibodeaux Exactly.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: I just I don't want to get into a position
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: where you're you're you're trying to appease too many masters,
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: like your foot's in too many doors, right, Like you're
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: trying to still have the eye to the future and
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: you're trying to win. Now. It's like you you traded
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: a future first round pick for a J. Brown, Like
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: you're winning now like this is this is what you're doing.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: You're trying to maximize the end of Drake May's rookie contract.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: You're trying to push the trips all all in the middle.
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: Go do it, go after it, Go get that Edgresser.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: I think I'm going to make an executive decision. Guys,
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: I think I can call it. I think I'm gonna
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: call it.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: You don't have any more emails, We have no more emails.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: We were light on the callers. We did.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: We did our hour. I'm trying to think if there's
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: anything else. No, come on, we can get this two hours.
- 1:32:04Speaker 7: No.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: I think I think I'm gonna call it.
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: I'm just gonna rap it. We're already cutting a show.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: I'm rapid later.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: We literally were talking about Wemby and the Spurs for
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: for ten minutes of this second hour. Already, Do you
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: got anything else on football?
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: What do you got?
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: I talk about your boys, sores b a little bit
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: more so that.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: Okay, legitimately you got twenty five minutes on not twenty
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: five minutes. I did because I do think this could
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: end up being relevant to Patriots. Okay, I do think
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: he could end up with the Jets of Dolphins. It's
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: not impossible. Have you watched him at all? No, I
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: we well, because you watched Cincinnati last year. Oh, I
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: guess that's true, right, So, like, I think the question
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: is going to be although prob I'm looking at the
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: YouTube comments. Apparently the audio cutouts, so maybe the show
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: was deciding that we're done. But yeah, if he were good,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: we're back, all right? Like should the Jets or the
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: Dolphins give up legitimate you know field the a type
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: of thing the other night that like second round pick
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: and I think Schefter said that to second round pick
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: is the bid? Should the Jets or the Dolphins consider
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: doing that? And as a Patriots fan, would you be
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: nervous if he ends up in the division? I mean
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: there's people talking about him like a first round caliber talent.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Anytime a team of year division drafts a quarterback in
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: the first round that's notable, you know you listen to.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Would not be nervous? Like his tape and look, I
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: didn't study him closely. I was watching the receiver. Who's
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: the receiver cirrus?
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: A couple of them is sarrus alas w Jeff called, well.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: Right, I wasn't watching him specifically. Yea, but it didn't
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: pop off. I remember a couple of years ago when.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: I watched Josh Downs and you knew Drake.
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, who's this quarterback that's playing for
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: North Carolina? I did not feel that way about soorsby
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: watching him. It didn't pop off. Like there was another team.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: I was watching one of their wide receivers. I think
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: that had a quarterback that's going to be in this
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: year's draft. Did I let that that did? Do that
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: pop off?
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: South Carolina?
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: I don't remember more. Uh no, h it was a
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: smaller school.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: There was a smaller school.
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: North Texas is a mess to maker.
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: Yeah, North Texas kid.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, he's at Oklahoma s Tate now.
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Like he was impressive.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Okay, I's a weird release see a little bit. But
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: like I liked the arm No, I like him too.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: He's fun.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: I mean, uh, door is because you're probably watching Dorner.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Yeah who's here now? Yeah?
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: Uh the uh swords me didn't do that for me necessarily,
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: but that was just on a very casual watch of him. Yeah,
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: but I I don't worry about it too much.
- 1:34:30Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: I do feel like we do this with like his
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: draft eligible tape. Yeah, if they were counting last year
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: as his draft eligible tape, I don't think that's first
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: round tape.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: Okay, he probably had.
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: To stack another year of like really good football this fall, yeah,
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: at Texas Tech on top of what he did last year.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Since I mean he's always a high upside prospect. But
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: six three, two thirty five, he can move around a
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: little bit. You know, ran for six hundred yards last year.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: He's toolsy. That's what he is. He's tools. He's very unproven,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: but he's toolsy.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Make a second round pick is probably if I was
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: any of these teams. Now, you have to win the bid.
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: If you really like the playoff, then you can't. You can't.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: I just talked about not you know, half half we'll
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: be putting it with Patriots, Like if you're gonna win
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: the bid and.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Then win, that's the thing, Like if you believe he's
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: the guy, yeah, you know, is there enough that you
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: could give up? But I would not be surprised if
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: he ends up in the afcast. I mean, there's not
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: that many teams that it makes sense for. Yeah, the Jets,
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: the Dolphins, Cardinals, the Cardinals, maybe the Browns. If they
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: just want to add another name to that room. Right.
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: It seems like the Browns really want to like try
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: the Sean Watson again.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Which, yeah, I think the owner is in that idea.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: One more for you, since we're talking about Kasehan Boody
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: and some of these same teams. If it's not the
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: player for player trade teams you look at that could
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: use a receiver. I have a list for you, okay,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: and would you let's start here, would you trade him
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: in the division. Let's say the Dolphins call you. Would
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: you trade k Shan Boody to the Dolphins? Yeah?
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Like, this is not like, it's not prim Randy Moss.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: And they can pay the division tax?
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: Okay, sure, like just to win the trade. Sure, but
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: I'm not like, oh no they can't. We can't give
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: them Kashan Boo.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't be super eager to do it. I try
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: to take them out of the division ideally. So here
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: here's the teams I have. And I got like kind
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: of two sleepers at the end. Okay, Giants we talked
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: about they have no talent. They have a lot. The
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: number is big in terms of the players they have
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: wide receive not much. We've been there commanders.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that makes a lot of sense
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: for the commanders. I know they maybe it's his camp,
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: but like Diggs has kind of been sniffing around the
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: commanders possibly, I think that they could use another receiver they're.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: Trying to like, I mean, Traylon Burks is their X
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: So they have Terry McLaurin obviously, but they're trying to
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: do that whole wide receiver to but by aggregate, like
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: they're trying to just add a bunch of guys together
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: and make them a wide receiver too. I think kishon
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: Booty gives you a legit potential wide receiver to.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Hear me out on this one. The Colts they have
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Alec Pearce, they have Josh Downs. Those guys are both
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: better on the inside.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: I would say Pier is better on the outside. Think
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: So okay, yeah, now they did move on from Michael Pippen.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: Right and they have Nick Westbrook a Kine in that role. Now, Okay,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: so let's say Booty's up great over him. Yeah, the
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Raiders just don't really have any receivers.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Beck, I we all liked Beck last year. He hasn't
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: he did not have an encouraging rookie year. We did
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: not their top series right now with jack Back, Trey Tucker,
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: Jalen Naylor.
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: I do like Trede Tucker is like Dante Forton type.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: No, those are all I think, good complimentary place.
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Bet struggled to separate, couldn't run.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and then the Chiefs because they just I would
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: not trade to the Chiefs. You would not, so you
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: would trade him in the division, but you would not
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: because I think the Dolphins interesting.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: I think the Justs and the Dolphins are gonna blow
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: and I don't think that is going to change.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: That fair I'm all right, fine, I won't argue with that,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: don't I see if the Chiefs call you with a
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: third round pick, would you do it.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: I think that the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes are currently
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: a sleeping giant.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: I don't have really much interest in giving the sleeping
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: giant any sort of motivation to wake up. The Patriots.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: That's one team that you know you don't want to
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: see prime Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game. Let's keep
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: let's keep Kansas City down. You know, Rashi Rice, who
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: the heck knows Taekwon Thornton is like a guy for them. Now,
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: Travis Kelcey on his last leg, like, let's not do
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: the Chiefs any favors. And I'm looking at you, Buffalo,
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: don't don't trade anybody.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: No, They've already done two huge favors for the Chiefs.
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: So let's not do any additional favors to Kansas City.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Let's let the sleeping dog lie.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: All right, here's two more that are kind of sleepers.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: And these don't look like wide receiver needy teams on
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: the surface. But I think specifically Booty's role, yeah, would
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: be a big boost Tampa. So you have Igbuka, you
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: have Godwin, so they lose Mike Evans. They lose Mike Evans,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: so you have Godwin and Buka. I think Booty gives
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: you something different than those two guys give you. He
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: doesn't give you what Mike Evans gave you, but he
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: gives you something different. Like Jalen McMillan's their third guy.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I think Booty adds more of a dynamic there, and
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: Godwin's a little bit older.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: Jalen McMillan to Washington at least was more of an
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: inside player. Yeah, and Muka and Godwin are more inside.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: So they did draft ted Hurst in the third round,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: but that's give you some more time to develop ted Hurst. Yeah,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: so that's what you win on that or is that
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: a stretch because NFC South Sure?
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: And how about the Rams they want to plan be
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: behind DeVante Adams. First of all, they need Jordan. Whittington's
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: not good enough to be a third guy. I like Jordan.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: They just don't play a whole lot of three receivers anymore,
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: like they play so much to that heavy tight end usage.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: And Pukah is the one guy.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: And yeah, but he gives you good insurance behind Adams.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: He does a Adams is going to miss games, like
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: might you're not going to miss the whole year, but
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: he'll miss his three or four games with the hamstring
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: poll or something like that.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: He'd be in probably an extension candidate for them.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, the Rams f them picks. They traded all their picks. Anyways,
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: we can get the Rams to give you a better
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: pick because they're.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: Just they don't care about the pick.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: They don't care about the picks.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: That's my So that's my short list for Kayshawn Boody.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: What do you think would be the best fit for
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: him of those teams Giants, Commander's Colts, Raiders, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Rams.
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: I think that whenever you have the Rams in there,
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: that's always a great offensive player. I would say the Commanders.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: I think playing off of Terry McLaurin with Jayden Daniels
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: throws a great deep ball. I think that that's a
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: really nice fit for him, and I think he play
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: a lot. I don't really think that their other wide
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: receiver threes through sevens or eights that they have, that
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: they're trying to create a wide receiver too out of
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: I don't. I don't think those guys are as good
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: as Kishan Booty is. I think he's a bit better.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: He would be like a clear cut yeah, you know,
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: Robin to McLaurin. So, all right, you got an extra
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: ten minutes out of it.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: Good job trying to give the people their money's worth.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: You're right, You're right. I'm telling you. It's not our fault.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Should we do it twenty you? Oh, it's not.
- 1:41:01Speaker 7: No.
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: I think that's bad radio. If we had, like if
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: people could see it, maybe it would be better radio.
- 1:41:06Speaker 2: It's like when we try to do like live mock drafts.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tough.
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: It's tough. We're gonna be back next week, though. I
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: want to do next week. Alex. Remember that tweet I
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: sent you from Daniel Jeremiah a ways a couple of
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: weeks back.
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: Yea.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: So Daniel Jeremiah had this thing where it was like
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: a thought exercise, and it was you need twelve players
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: as like a foundation. And it was like a quarterback off,
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: a couple offensive playmakers, a couple of good offensive linemen,
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: a couple of good defensive playmakers. You know that sort
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: of thing. And I want to do it with the
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: Patriots and see how many of the twelve the Patriots
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: have so like, for example, like they obviously have the
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: quarterback right, so that one's checked, But do they have
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: it all one through twelve? Are they are? True? In
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: Daniel Jeremiah's mine, that's that's a true contender is if
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: you have all twelve. The super Bowl conteer is if
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: you have all twelve. So we'll do that next week.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: We'll do the around the Apes he's with the Bills,
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: which I'm sure will be a good time.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Hang on. So many in YouTube comments had a good idea. Okay,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: a twenty and Oh, he's.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: Just really determined to get this.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: No, because I want to see you do this. Hang on,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: I want to see you this twenty and O. But
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: it's only Patriots, Okay, So starting off sixteen to twenty
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: twenty sixteen twenty twenty offense only Patriots sixteen to twenty
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: twenty sixteen to twenty twenty only Patriots, only Patriots Tom Brady. So,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: but here's the thing we could get, like, oh, seven
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Brady later? Do you want to use twenty seventeen Tom
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: Brady or.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: I mean he was still the MVP of the league.
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: Okay, So twenty seventeen Tom Brady at quarterback? All right?
- 1:42:36Speaker 8: Uh?
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: Twenty one to twenty five Patriots offense offense Joe Toney, Well,
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: they don't have lineman. I think that has to be Digs, right.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: Is they don't have lineman?
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: Has Digs been the best offense?
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: Don't have the most important position group.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: On the field. Is it digs or is it twenty
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: twenty two? Remandre I think it's digs right. I'll go
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Digs sure, because we're not Oh, we might get a
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: better wide receiver, but that's up there. Eleven to fifteen
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: page see so now we didn't get twenty eleven Brady Gronk. Yeah,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: we got to go twenty eleven Gronk, right, yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: all right? Uh six to ten, two thousand and six
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: to twenty ten. We still need a running back. We
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: have Randy Moss, Yes, Randy Moss or Wes Welker Randy Moss.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: All right, we have mod Randy.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: Gronk, We have digs ooh, prime Brady.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Ninety nine to five. Okay, and let me remind you
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: we still need a running back.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: We still need a running back, Corey Dillon.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Fawk killing Corey Dillon at running back? All right, flex
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: six to ten, So we get Moss and Welker. There
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: you go. That's the offense defense last five years, twenty
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: one to twenty five. Probably jude On, right.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Christian Zales see an option.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: It goes by like production though. Okay, so I guess then, yeah,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: unless J. C. Jackson had a bunch of picks a
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: couple of years ago, we'll go jude On, there's a
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: chance will end up coming back that what was that hot? Well,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: twenty one to twenty five when have high time? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: here we go. We got twenty one to twenty five again,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: you want to go Gonzo, yep, Gonzo Gonzo. All right,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: fair enough, ninety nine to five the early run defenses. Yeah,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: where's Richard Seymour? And it's tough to get defensive tackles.
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: And we already picked a corner. I guess I could
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: have picked Tyler.
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: So we do have a flex. We could go a lot.
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: We could go Rodney. You want Seymour, Seymour at de tackle.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: Another ninety nine to five go Rodney, could also go Bruski.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: You want to go Rodney, Rodney, Rodney, Harrison and d
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: We're getting like the best years for here. We go,
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Oh six to ten is a little thinner for defense.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: On defense, we go Rabel the linebacker. We've got Vin,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: we got big Vince.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: To ten is rookie Devin mccordy rookie.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: Oh good, one twenty No, it's twenty eleven. I think
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: that's twenty ten. Oh yeah, there he is in the flex.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Although we do need a linebacker. There's also oh no, there,
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: we don't have rookie un T Tower. We have Peter h.
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: Tower is twenty twelve.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so we'll go Devin mccordy at the flex. Yeah,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: twenty one to twenty five at linebacker Splaine, van Ney,
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Chase on Ouch, Tavai Gibbons, Bentley, Landry ponders on here,
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I feel like twenty one High Tower.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: I kind of feel like it's Splain, like high Tower
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: in twenty one?
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: Was he? I don't think he was great.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: No, I'm gonna say Splain, thanks, all right.
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: Let's go with Robert Splain. Yeah, eighteen and two. No,
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: there's it said Splaine was the one that held us back.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: There's no, there's nobody that's beating.
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: I guess we could have done a re instead and
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: try to get a different line.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: Back crime Brady all right, So here loss in prime Gronk,
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: and you think that we were going.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: To Grady Corey, Dylan Stefan Diggs, Rob Marnkowski, Randy Moss, Westwolker. Legitimately,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I don't know that we could do better than that.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: No, I don't know you can.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: You can't. I don't think you can do any better
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: than that. For the Patriots defense, Judon Seymour, Splain, Gonzales,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Rodney Harrison, Devin mccorty.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Yeah, the defense was maybe a little.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: I guess we could have respund for linebacker and try
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: to get prime high tower. Yeah or prime. I didn't
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: think of that, but it's still pretty good.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: I feel like we could have done better.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Well, we'll try next week, all right, now, are you good?
- 1:46:08Speaker 9: Now?
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: Yeah? I think that was fun.
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: Okay, all right, So we're gonna sign off a little
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: bit early because I think we were in the real
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: dead period.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Before the dead period. We should do a Patriots one
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: at the end of every UHO and see if we
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: can like do better.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Okay, fair enough, but Patriots Unfiltered will be back tomorrow
