- 1:47Speaker 5: over there. Did you get your walk-in today? I'm going
- 1:51Speaker 5: to say he's walking. They're dealing with a lot.
- 1:53Speaker 1: They're dealing with a lot.
- 1:54Speaker 5: You know, we've got to get these high school football
- 1:56Speaker 5: teams ready to go. And there's a process here. And
- 1:58Speaker 5: so we've got 48 hours to go. So he'll be
- 2:00Speaker 5: working on that. The SEC is working on the NFL
- 2:04Speaker 5: and players coming back. If you missed it just a
- 2:06Speaker 5: few hours ago, schools that violate, this is courtesy of
- 2:10Speaker 5: the Southeastern Conference, schools that violate the SEC's professional sports
- 2:15Speaker 5: rule will result in the following. So the SEC now
- 2:18Speaker 5: has guidelines of how you can't come back. And by
- 2:21Speaker 5: the way, the logos are NBA and NFL. So they're
- 2:25Speaker 5: putting this in place for the National Basketball Association players,
- 2:29Speaker 5: and they're putting this in place for the National Football
- 2:31Speaker 5: League players. If a school does this, 50% season suspension
- 2:36Speaker 5: for the head coaches.
- 2:37Speaker 1: 50%.
- 2:39Speaker 5: So if you dally with this and you're bullheaded and
- 2:44Speaker 5: you move forward with it, Lane Kiffin's going to get
- 2:48Speaker 5: basically a slip that says you're out for 50% of
- 2:51Speaker 5: the season, half the year. 50% of the sports annual
- 2:54Speaker 5: operating budget. So if your operating budget from the league
- 2:57Speaker 5: is $ 80 million, well, you're going to get.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Dinged $ 40 million.
- 3:01Speaker 5: And SEC voting privileges on business matters revoked. So moving forward,
- 3:06Speaker 5: they don't give a specific timeline on that. Your privileges
- 3:09Speaker 5: as that school will be revoked. So if it's LSU,
- 3:13Speaker 5: and we're going to use LSU constantly in this scenario
- 3:15Speaker 5: because they are the one team who seems to be
- 3:18Speaker 5: the most bullheaded about this as they abstained from the
- 3:23Speaker 5: vote today. And we'll get more into that. LSU would
- 3:27Speaker 5: have no voting power. You can go sit at the
- 3:30Speaker 5: other table, LSU.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You're not going to do it.
- 3:32Speaker 5: So the SEC really cracking down just like the Big
- 3:35Speaker 5: Ten did on the NBA and the NFL.
- 3:39Speaker 1: All right. Nike stock.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Nike stock is on pace for its worst year since
- 3:45Speaker 5: Michael Jordan's retirement in 1993. I just thought I'd put
- 3:48Speaker 5: that out there. Also, Alabama and Auburn basketball will meet
- 3:52Speaker 5: in an October exhibition game in Birmingham. Very unusual here.
- 3:57Speaker 5: If it sells out, both schools will make six figures,
- 4:00Speaker 5: providing a boost to their roster-building efforts. So a little
- 4:05Speaker 5: basketball money-raising there going on between Alabama and Auburn. Also,
- 4:12Speaker 5: David Cohn has released his Big Ten record predictions. He
- 4:17Speaker 5: has one, two, three teams, make it four teams that
- 4:22Speaker 5: have double-digit wins in the Big Ten.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Oregon at 11-1.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Ohio State 10-2, Indiana 10-2, Penn State 10-2. He's got
- 4:30Speaker 5: Michigan at 9-3, USC at 9-3, Illinois 9-3, Iowa 8-4,
- 4:36Speaker 5: Nebraska and Washington at 7-5, UCLA and Minnesota 2-6 and
- 4:42Speaker 5: 6 teams. Also 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 teams.
- 4:45Speaker 5: That would be Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Maryland. Also 3, 4,
- 4:49Speaker 5: and 8 teams. Purdue, Northwestern, and Rutgers. And also, we'll
- 4:54Speaker 5: get into this, ESPN is, I don't know why they're
- 4:56Speaker 5: doing this, but we're going to find out. ESPN has
- 4:59Speaker 5: announced they will remove the bottom line ticker for college
- 5:03Speaker 5: football broadcasts. Now, I don't know why they're doing this.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I actually have always enjoyed the ticker. You know, you're
- 5:07Speaker 5: sitting there watching a game, and you've got the scores
- 5:10Speaker 5: just constantly coming across the bottom. Well, they're removing that line.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Nothing ESPN does, though, makes any sense. Top ten college
- 5:18Speaker 5: football sophomores headed into the 2026 season, courtesy of Pro
- 5:22Speaker 5: Football Focus. Should be no surprise, the top sophomore in
- 5:27Speaker 5: college football is Malachi Toney, wide receiver at University of Miami.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Also representing the University of Miami is safety Bryce Fitzgerald,
- 5:37Speaker 5: CJ Carr, quarterback Notre Dame. Browante Johnson is a safety.
- 5:42Speaker 1: He's from Notre Dame.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Caleb Hawkins running back at Oklahoma State. Jerron Cooee-Sagapatoli, he
- 5:49Speaker 5: is the quarterback. And I cannot believe I just pulled
- 5:51Speaker 5: that off on a Wednesday, but that is his name,
- 5:53Speaker 5: Jerron Cooee-Sagapatoli. He is a quarterback for Cal. He is
- 5:58Speaker 5: a sophomore.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Dijon Lee Jr., cornerback, Alabama.
- 6:01Speaker 5: Bo Jackson, running back. Not that Bo Jackson, but he
- 6:04Speaker 5: is a running back for Ohio State. John Mills, guard
- 6:07Speaker 5: for Washington. And Elijah Griffin, defensive tackle for the University
- 6:12Speaker 5: of Georgia Bulldogs. Also, we'll get into a piece. John
- 6:16Speaker 5: Talti did a nice job with this, as always. How
- 6:19Speaker 5: did we get to a place where multiple conferences, including
- 6:21Speaker 5: the Big Ten and SEC, had to ban professional players
- 6:24Speaker 5: from returning today? Chris Hummer and John Talti wrote about
- 6:28Speaker 5: LSU's involvement behind the scenes in which this set this
- 6:32Speaker 5: thing in motion. So, again, everywhere that Lane Kiffin goes,
- 6:37Speaker 5: there's a story, and he is at the center of
- 6:40Speaker 5: this story, and we will get into that.
- 6:43Speaker 1: A little later on.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Also, Matt Moscona, who covers LSU and the SEC down
- 6:50Speaker 5: in Baton Rouge. He is obviously the host for Upon
- 6:54Speaker 5: Further Review, Locked on LSU, and does a ton, obviously,
- 6:58Speaker 5: in college sports. He says reps for Junior Tulumaka. confirmed
- 7:06Speaker 5: to him that former Notre Dame edge rusher is still
- 7:10Speaker 5: to join LSU after the SEC policy released today. He
- 7:14Speaker 5: never signed an NFL contractor with an NFL team. Also,
- 7:18Speaker 5: mutual interest between LSU and former Utah cornerback Blake Cotton,
- 7:22Speaker 5: who was in Baton Rouge. Cotton signed with Denver and
- 7:25Speaker 5: would be ineligible per the new SEC policy. Defensive tackle
- 7:29Speaker 5: Zavian Harris is also in Baton Rouge per sources. LSU
- 7:33Speaker 5: began their fall semester on Monday. The 33 plaintiffs that
- 7:38Speaker 5: received the TRO last week have preliminary injunction hearings scheduled
- 7:42Speaker 5: for Monday, August 31st. Let's go to the Mississippi Sports
- 7:45Speaker 5: Medicine call line.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Let's go to David. David, welcome in. How are you?
- 7:49Speaker 4: Hey, Jake. How you been doing, man?
- 7:51Speaker 1: David, I'm well.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Jake, I didn't make it to Bulldog Stadium, but I
- 7:56Speaker 4: did watch a game on the live stream the other night.
- 8:00Speaker 4: And just wanted to make a few comments and get
- 8:03Speaker 4: your thoughts on it.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Sure.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I saw a lot of good bright spots on them.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I thought Brandon looked real well. But, you know, Warren Central,
- 8:15Speaker 4: I thought they were playing one of the top five
- 8:17Speaker 4: teams in the state and certainly one of the top
- 8:20Speaker 4: five coaches in the state also. But I thought Brandon
- 8:26Speaker 4: hung with them really, really well. But two players on
- 8:31Speaker 4: Brandon that really sort of stuck out was The receiver,
- 8:35Speaker 4: number zero, I don't know his name, but I think
- 8:39Speaker 4: he was maybe a transfer. And our quarterback, 18. Jake,
- 8:46Speaker 4: I thought what impressed me about him so much, I
- 8:50Speaker 4: thought he ran the ball extremely well for a high
- 8:55Speaker 4: school quarterback. And I know, you know, last year a
- 8:58Speaker 4: lot of times we struggled moving the ball three and out,
- 9:02Speaker 4: three and out, three and out. And anybody that plays Brandon,
- 9:07Speaker 4: you know what their defensive game plan is, stop Tyson. But,
- 9:11Speaker 4: you know, if you had somebody in there that could
- 9:14Speaker 4: really get in and, you know, go with a running game,
- 9:18Speaker 4: it would take so much pressure off Tyson and just,
- 9:21Speaker 4: I think, give a whole new dimension to the Brandon offense.
- 9:26Speaker 4: And I'm just going to hang up and listen to
- 9:28Speaker 4: you and get your comments on it.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Thank you, David. Thanks a lot. Appreciate you as always. 601-897-1059.
- 9:34Speaker 5: That is the Mississippi Sports Medicine. Call the line real
- 9:38Speaker 5: quickly on that. Brandon Warren Central played a preseason game
- 9:41Speaker 5: this past week like everybody. And, you know, it was
- 9:45Speaker 5: a very competitive ball game. I don't think you really
- 9:46Speaker 5: saw a whole lot from either side of what you'll
- 9:49Speaker 5: see on Friday night as far as offensive schematics and
- 9:53Speaker 5: the way they're going to play their preseason overs. But
- 9:55Speaker 5: the receiver you mentioned, number zero, that's Josh Parker. He
- 9:58Speaker 5: came over from Jackson Prep. He originally started school in Brandon,
- 10:01Speaker 5: decided to come back and finish his career at Brandon
- 10:04Speaker 5: and play with some of the guys he knew there.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Josh Parker is a legit track superstar, 4'3, 9, laser 40,
- 10:12Speaker 5: he'll bring a lot to this ball team. The quarterback, David,
- 10:15Speaker 5: that you referenced is Jamison Bowering.
- 10:18Speaker 1: He is a junior.
- 10:19Speaker 5: He is a really good player. And the young man's
- 10:21Speaker 5: got a really good eye for running the football. Those
- 10:24Speaker 5: are good deep balls. So I think you've got two
- 10:26Speaker 5: really good quarterbacks there with Slade and Shaq and Bowering.
- 10:29Speaker 5: And I would expect to see Bowering in some positions,
- 10:32Speaker 5: you know, some quote packages, even though I don't like
- 10:34Speaker 5: that term, packages this season where they'll use his skill set.
- 10:38Speaker 5: And they'll need all hands on deck Friday night. as
- 10:41Speaker 5: they head to Tupelo. We are brought to you by
- 10:43Speaker 5: our friends at Guttermasters, guttermastersllc.com. Get protected today, 601-503-7755. Online
- 10:51Speaker 5: at guttermastersllc.com. Get protected today with Guttermasters. We'll have Jake
- 10:55Speaker 5: Thompson talk at Ole Miss Camp coming up in about
- 10:57Speaker 5: 20 minutes.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Did you know that the average diamond changes hands five
- 11:01Speaker 2: times before it ever reaches a jewelry store? And every time,
- 11:05Speaker 2: the price goes up. That's nuts.
- 11:08Speaker 8: And that's why the world's finest diamond cutters come directly
- 11:11Speaker 8: to Juniker Jewelry. There's no one else between you and
- 11:15Speaker 8: your diamond.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I'm John.
- 11:16Speaker 6: And I'm Rachel Ravenstein. Because we are Mississippi's direct diamond
- 11:21Speaker 6: importer with ten times the diamonds of average jewelry stores.

- 11:31Speaker 1: At Juniker Jewelry.

- 11:34Speaker 6: price anywhere in Mississippi. That's the Juniker Diamond guarantee.

- 11:42Speaker 6: So guys, you can do this.
- 11:43Speaker 8: Juniker Jewelry, Mississippi's direct diamond importer.

- 11:59Speaker 6: I'm ready.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It's more The Afternoon Drive with Jake Riverlake.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Where he's live and local.
- 12:04Speaker 3: On Jackson Sports Authority. ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online

- 12:35Speaker 5: You can get out and eat at the brand-new Roosevelt's now. And,
- 12:39Speaker 5: of course, tomorrow, if you want to be a part
- 12:41Speaker 5: of the ribbon-cutting, you'll need to request, I believe, just
- 12:45Speaker 5: a seat for that. But you can get in all
- 12:47Speaker 5: weekend long at Live Oaks. And, of course, get over
- 12:49Speaker 5: to Live Oaks and play today. Get a membership, of course,
- 12:52Speaker 5: daily rates and more. Go to LiveOaksGC.com. You can call
- 12:55Speaker 5: us 601-897-1059. That is 601. the Mississippi Sports Medicine caller line,
- 13:02Speaker 5: and you can always text us, 601-885-3776.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Jake Thompson will join us next segment. We'll talk Ole
- 13:08Speaker 1: Miss football, Michael.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Bratton, that SEC podcast at 4.30. Alabama has named a quarterback,
- 13:14Speaker 5: and that is Keylon Russell, Alabama's defensive coordinator. Kane Womack
- 13:18Speaker 5: tells Chris Lowe that Keylon Russell has the, quote, it factor,
- 13:23Speaker 5: as he and DeBorn teammates have raved about the Tide's QB1, quote,
- 13:28Speaker 5: this is a dynamic quarterback that has it all.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I mean, that's been the pedigree on Keelan Russell since
- 13:35Speaker 5: he came out of high school. I believe he was
- 13:37Speaker 5: the number one recruiting quarterback or recruited quarterback for his class.
- 13:42Speaker 5: He signed, I believe, with Kalen DeBoer. No, I'm thinking
- 13:45Speaker 5: the other guy. Signed with Alabama. The backup signed with
- 13:48Speaker 5: Kalen DeBoer at Washington. Comes from Washington to Alabama. And
- 13:54Speaker 5: that's where they are now. But We'll see. Killian Russell's big.
- 13:57Speaker 5: He's physical. He can run it. This is probably, if
- 14:00Speaker 5: he is, quote, the it factor. This is what Alabama needs. And,
- 14:04Speaker 5: you know, they've got to get some running game going.
- 14:06Speaker 5: And if that's by way of the quarterback to kind
- 14:08Speaker 5: of open up those run lanes, then so be it.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Ross Dellinger reporting the ACC. Their athletic directors expressed wide
- 14:16Speaker 5: support for a ban on professional football and basketball players.
- 14:19Speaker 1: During their meetings today. Excuse me. A finalized policy.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Likely through university president approval is expected in the coming days.
- 14:29Speaker 5: So the Big Ten is on board. The SEC is
- 14:32Speaker 5: officially on board on banning players from coming back from
- 14:35Speaker 5: the NFL.
- 14:35Speaker 1: And the NBA.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Now the ACC looks like they're going to follow suit
- 14:41Speaker 5: as well. I'm going to get that out of my throat,
- 14:42Speaker 5: I promise. Bet MGM graphic highlights on how much that
- 14:47Speaker 5: this makes me angry. This next thing we're going to
- 14:50Speaker 5: talk about makes me very angry. It's about my Miami Dolphins.
- 14:53Speaker 5: This is just awful. I mean, the Dolphins are just
- 14:56Speaker 5: burning money, burning money in the NFL. This is an
- 15:01Speaker 5: infograph that I'm looking at, and I've shared this on
- 15:03Speaker 5: X at Jake Wim.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Excuse me.
- 15:07Speaker 5: And the Dolphins have just torched money more so than
- 15:11Speaker 5: any other team in the league. Here's the highest paid
- 15:13Speaker 5: player or the highest paid players this season. They're paying
- 15:16Speaker 5: for this, not even on the team. They're still paying
- 15:18Speaker 5: to a tongue of low of fifty five point four
- 15:19Speaker 5: million dollars. Tyreek Hill, twenty eight point two million dollars.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Jalen Waddell, who's with the Broncos, $ 23.
- 15:27Speaker 3: 2 million.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Jalen Ramsey, who is with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 15:32Speaker 1: $ 20. 9 million.
- 15:33Speaker 5: They're paying Minka Fitzpatrick, who's with the Jets this year,
- 15:36Speaker 5: $ 13 million. Zach Seiler is still with the Dolphins, the
- 15:40Speaker 5: one guy.
- 15:41Speaker 1: He is getting paid $ 11. 4 million.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Bradley Chubb is with the Buffalo Bills. He's getting paid
- 15:46Speaker 5: $ 11 million. And Teron Armstead is getting paid $ 10.
- 15:49Speaker 6: 7 million.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Million.
- 15:52Speaker 5: If you look at the teams with the most dead cap,
- 15:54Speaker 5: the Miami Dolphins far and away in the NFL lead
- 15:57Speaker 5: the league at $ 179.
- 15:58Speaker 1: 7 million. Next team up is the Cleveland Browns at $ 116.
- 15:59Speaker 6: 8 million.
- 15:59Speaker 1: The Saints have $ 112. 2 million of dead money. The New
- 16:02Speaker 1: York Jets have $ 111. 5 million. The Philadelphia Eagles $ 73. 5 million.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Then you get back down into some lower numbers with
- 16:20Speaker 5: the Cardinals, Texans, Raiders, Jaguars, and the Bills, but the Dolphins,
- 16:23Speaker 5: I mean, you're looking at almost $ 150 million more than
- 16:28Speaker 5: the next highest team, which is the Cleveland Browns. They
- 16:32Speaker 5: ought to give this organization away. Like me, Beaver, and
- 16:35Speaker 5: the Texters ought to own this organization is what ought
- 16:37Speaker 5: to happen. Because obviously they don't know what they're doing.
- 16:41Speaker 5: And look, we may all not know what we're doing,
- 16:42Speaker 5: but collectively I feel like we could do a better
- 16:44Speaker 5: job than what the Dolphins are doing with their money.
- 16:47Speaker 5: ESPN ranked the top 100 players in college football, and
- 16:51Speaker 5: here's where the quarterbacks in college football, regardless of conference, listed.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Top 100 players listed by ESPN. Trinidad Chambliss lists as
- 17:00Speaker 5: the fifth best overall player, regardless of position, courtesy of ESPN.
- 17:05Speaker 5: CJ Carr, Notre Dame, is the seventh best overall. Julian
- 17:08Speaker 5: Say in Ohio State, eight. Jaden Mavia, USC, ninth. Dante Moore,
- 17:13Speaker 5: he is 11th overall. Arch Manning, 13th. Darian Mensah, 23rd.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Gunnar Stockton, 31. And you could kind of use this list,
- 17:22Speaker 5: you know, not necessarily as a draft list for next year,
- 17:26Speaker 5: but you could use it as, you know, kind of
- 17:28Speaker 5: a barometer of sorts for it. What's interesting on this,
- 17:31Speaker 5: Gunnar Stockton, Mets to Maker, Levitt, Saga Patoli. I don't
- 17:40Speaker 5: see South Carolina's quarterback on here, Lenore Sellers. And the
- 17:43Speaker 5: reason I say that is because A lot of people
- 17:45Speaker 5: still feel like he's a top five, you know, top
- 17:48Speaker 5: five pick, maybe a first round pick in the NFL
- 17:49Speaker 5: draft next year. And I don't see him on the
- 17:51Speaker 5: ESPN's list of top 100. But now this is 100
- 17:54Speaker 5: players total, but he's still not listed in the quarterbacks.
- 17:56Speaker 5: John Mateer, number 89. Byron Brown, Auburn, number 88. Noah Fafita, Arizona, 81st.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Devon Williams, Washington, 64th. Josh Hoover, Indiana, 55th. So just
- 18:11Speaker 5: some nuggets there on the quarterbacks. But I mean, you've got,
- 18:13Speaker 5: think about it this way. You've got One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
- 18:18Speaker 5: About 20 guys on this list of top 100 players
- 18:20Speaker 5: that are quarterbacks this year. It's a very deep quarterback class,
- 18:24Speaker 5: and it's a very, very good quarterback crop in college
- 18:28Speaker 5: football in 2026. I don't know if you guys have
- 18:31Speaker 5: seen this or not, but Colorado State, and again, I'm
- 18:33Speaker 5: going to continue to hat tip the colleges versus the NFL.
- 18:37Speaker 5: The NFL has released several new, as they always do,
- 18:40Speaker 5: Uniform releases for this team and that team, and most
- 18:43Speaker 5: of them look just like the Buffalo Bills.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Uniform release looks awful to me.
- 18:47Speaker 5: But the college releases, Tulane, Mississippi State bringing back the
- 18:52Speaker 5: block MSU, Texas A & M, there's several. Well, Colorado
- 18:56Speaker 5: State gets in the mix here. Colorado State will wear
- 19:00Speaker 5: an Ag Day uniform September 12th versus Southern Utah. It's
- 19:03Speaker 5: the annual Ag Day barbecue and football game, which sounds fantastic.
- 19:08Speaker 5: And it's an orange. You know, Colorado State is not
- 19:10Speaker 5: these colors, but it's an orange and green. It looks
- 19:13Speaker 5: almost like Miami Hurricane colors. But it's a very, very
- 19:16Speaker 5: cool-looking uniform. And it's got a ram head on the
- 19:21Speaker 5: side of the helmet with orange and green, orange and
- 19:24Speaker 5: green hat and orange rams.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You know, the horns. So it's a very, very good-looking uniform.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You need to check that out. Check that out.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Brett McMurphy, a piece we will get into, if not today,
- 19:35Speaker 5: this week. $ 900. 948 games in 149 days. That's what
- 19:39Speaker 5: we got coming up starting this weekend. 948 games in
- 19:43Speaker 5: 149 days. This is going to be the longest college
- 19:47Speaker 5: football season in recorded human history. and it starts this Saturday,
- 19:52Speaker 5: meaning from the time they kick Saturday all the way
- 19:55Speaker 5: to the college football national championship, this is the longest season.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I'm not complaining about it.
- 20:00Speaker 5: It said, how does a drawn-out schedule impact the Heisman
- 20:03Speaker 5: race and eventual national champions?
- 20:04Speaker 1: So we will get into that. 949 days.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Hawaii.
- 20:08Speaker 1: The Rainbow Warriors. Do we still call them that? I'm
- 20:11Speaker 1: going to call them that. Maybe they changed their mascot. Red,
- 20:13Speaker 1: are you out there?
- 20:14Speaker 5: Becomes the first school with an airline for its football
- 20:18Speaker 5: jersey sponsorship. So Hawaiian Airlines has sponsored the– they're the
- 20:23Speaker 5: jersey patch sponsor for the Hawaiian Rainbow football team. Also,
- 20:28Speaker 5: we will get into this. The NFL has spoken now
- 20:32Speaker 5: about players going back to college. This is courtesy of
- 20:34Speaker 5: Adam Schefter. And earlier today, he says the NFL will
- 20:38Speaker 5: provide clarity to clubs later today regarding league rules governing
- 20:42Speaker 5: players' eligibility that have been in place and remain unaltered.
- 20:47Speaker 5: A player that goes back to college, and this answers
- 20:50Speaker 5: some questions that we all had a couple weeks ago,
- 20:53Speaker 5: or a week ago. A player that goes back to
- 20:55Speaker 5: college this season will be prohibited from signing with an
- 20:58Speaker 5: NFL team next year. Because remember, I had asked this question,
- 21:02Speaker 5: and I think some others had as well, is will
- 21:04Speaker 5: if you were drafted in the seventh round this year
- 21:07Speaker 5: and you go back to college, could you just jump
- 21:08Speaker 5: back in the NFL draft next year?
- 21:10Speaker 1: The NFL says, Oh no, no. If you go back
- 21:12Speaker 1: to college, you're not coming back in this league next year.
- 21:15Speaker 5: A player signed to an NFL contract who was subsequently
- 21:19Speaker 5: cut is a free agent. He may sign with another
- 21:23Speaker 5: NFL club, the CFL or return to college, but that
- 21:28Speaker 5: player is considered a free agent and will not be
- 21:31Speaker 5: subject to a future draft. So, These guys coming back
- 21:34Speaker 5: to college, they're not going back to the league next year.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It's not happening.
- 21:39Speaker 5: And I don't know if this is something that they're
- 21:40Speaker 5: getting advised by their agent or if they've thought about,
- 21:43Speaker 5: but the NFL has made a stance on this, and
- 21:46Speaker 5: here's where they are. Ross Dellinger says, most interesting, a
- 21:48Speaker 5: player who returns to college after signing a pro contract
- 21:51Speaker 5: is not subject to the NFL draft, and those who
- 21:54Speaker 5: return to college this year are prohibited from a return
- 21:58Speaker 5: to the NFL in the same year.
- 22:00Speaker 1: 601-885-3776.

- 24:24Speaker 5: Ole Miss and the SEC.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Jake, welcome in, brother. How are you doing?
- 24:28Speaker 9: I'm doing good, Jake. Thanks for having me on again.
- 24:30Speaker 5: I appreciate you as always. All right, so did we
- 24:34Speaker 5: really have the FBI combed through and sweet for bugs
- 24:38Speaker 5: after the Fiesta Bowl?
- 24:39Speaker 9: Well, I'm going to say right before that question was
- 24:43Speaker 9: asked Monday, it was the first time I had heard
- 24:46Speaker 9: of that and the podcast that Walker Jones had been on.
- 24:49Speaker 9: I'm not a regular listener to the, I guess it
- 24:52Speaker 9: was called the Assorted Crackers podcast. And so I was unaware, A,
- 24:56Speaker 9: this interview even happened, and B, that that Walker had
- 24:59Speaker 9: said it. And I think Pete was kind of, I
- 25:02Speaker 9: don't know, caught off guard that the story was public
- 25:05Speaker 9: or that Walker said as much as he said. But
- 25:07Speaker 9: I think it was a little exaggerated and dramatic. Now,
- 25:11Speaker 9: I think they probably go through normal protocols when coaching
- 25:14Speaker 9: changes happen, especially as high profile as this one was
- 25:17Speaker 9: and went. But no, I don't think we have the
- 25:20Speaker 9: full on, like you see on TV or the movies,
- 25:23Speaker 9: FBI coming in, sweeping every room and checking for bugs
- 25:25Speaker 9: and stuff. I think that was I think that might
- 25:28Speaker 9: have been Walker getting a little carried away with the story.
- 25:30Speaker 9: But yeah, I think it was what it mostly was,
- 25:32Speaker 9: was normal changing of coaching staffs, especially inter-SEC coaching changes
- 25:36Speaker 9: with guys that had been there for a month longer
- 25:38Speaker 9: through the playoff run. I think typical stuff like that.
- 25:41Speaker 9: So it was quite the question to get to start
- 25:44Speaker 9: to wrap up camp. But no, I don't think it
- 25:45Speaker 9: was as exciting as people were hoping it was.
- 25:49Speaker 5: All right, so it looks like the SEC has laid
- 25:51Speaker 5: the hammer down today along with the Big Ten yesterday
- 25:54Speaker 5: on NFL players coming back. Any news out of Oxford?
- 25:58Speaker 5: I mean, we know where your former head coach, where
- 26:01Speaker 5: he stands on it, LSU, is all in on this thing.
- 26:03Speaker 5: We'll see if they fight this thing in court. But
- 26:06Speaker 5: does it look like maybe the one or two that
- 26:08Speaker 5: was coming back now, those spots, they're not coming back now?
- 26:11Speaker 9: Yeah, no, I think, you know, Pete, we'd asked him,
- 26:14Speaker 9: I guess, at the start of camp about this because
- 26:16Speaker 9: that was when the five-for-five had become a thing. And
- 26:19Speaker 9: he basically doubled down on Monday when asked again, you know,
- 26:22Speaker 9: especially since the Daquan Wright news that broke over the
- 26:25Speaker 9: weekend of the Browns letting him go. And his stance
- 26:28Speaker 9: has been, you know, we're not breaking anybody back to
- 26:31Speaker 9: take a spot from the kid who's been here with
- 26:33Speaker 9: us since January. I've recruited, built this roster with the
- 26:38Speaker 9: rules that were in place in January when the offseason started.
- 26:41Speaker 9: And so unless a player was hurt and they needed
- 26:44Speaker 9: debt because that player could just not go, then that
- 26:46Speaker 9: would be the only reason he kicked the tires and
- 26:48Speaker 9: And the fact that Ole Miss was not even an
- 26:50Speaker 9: option to start should tell you all you need to
- 26:52Speaker 9: know about it if they'd come back here. And right now, obviously,
- 26:55Speaker 9: it looks like they're not. And, you know, the formal vote,
- 26:59Speaker 9: I guess, that came out about an hour, hour and
- 27:00Speaker 9: a half ago, was 15-0, you know, 80s presidents, whoever
- 27:04Speaker 9: was voting in the SEC with LSU abstaining. And so, obviously,
- 27:08Speaker 9: Keith Carter, Glenn Boyce are in lockstep and how the
- 27:11Speaker 9: conference views the, you know, NFL, former pro, whatever you
- 27:14Speaker 9: want to call them, coming back.
- 27:16Speaker 6: So.
- 27:16Speaker 9: Yeah, no, I think, you know, Ole Miss has been
- 27:18Speaker 9: in the news because that's where they formerly played and
- 27:21Speaker 9: the former head coach. But, you know, they're not involved
- 27:23Speaker 9: in this in terms of wanting the kids back in
- 27:25Speaker 9: that way.
- 27:27Speaker 1: We're visiting with Jake Thompson. It is Wednesday.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Talking Ole Miss sports and SEC sports. Make sure to
- 27:31Speaker 5: get him on exit. Jake Thompson, OEM. Wednesday edition of
- 27:34Speaker 5: your program. All right, so now the tension, you know,
- 27:38Speaker 5: and we'll get more with you on this next week
- 27:39Speaker 5: as we really get into game week. But with Louisville
- 27:41Speaker 5: coming up, kind of take us through where Ole Miss is.
- 27:44Speaker 5: I would assume, I mean, You know how this goes.
- 27:46Speaker 5: There's so many staffers on these college teams. They've probably
- 27:50Speaker 5: been gathering film and prepping for this internally for weeks,
- 27:53Speaker 5: but now the focus turns directly to game one.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Does it not?
- 27:57Speaker 9: Yeah, this week, probably today, maybe tomorrow, if you took
- 28:01Speaker 9: it literally, they're probably shifting into more of a game-type prep.
- 28:05Speaker 9: They're having a mock game Saturday as their final scrimmage
- 28:09Speaker 9: of camp to shift into what Monday will be officially
- 28:11Speaker 9: regular season time, but Pete and his staff were treating
- 28:14Speaker 9: it like a hybrid week where it was still camp,
- 28:16Speaker 9: but also they know in a handful of days they've
- 28:19Speaker 9: got to start prepping for the Cardinals and Louisville and
- 28:22Speaker 9: what's going to happen in Nashville. So it's been a mixture,
- 28:25Speaker 9: which that's what Lane has done. I'm sure almost what
- 28:28Speaker 9: every coach does. So they'll hone in and drill down
- 28:31Speaker 9: on Louisville. But like you said, there's so many staffers
- 28:33Speaker 9: that some have probably been assigned to pick apart what
- 28:36Speaker 9: they can from last year's Louisville team compared to what
- 28:39Speaker 9: they got this year. you know, already been working on
- 28:42Speaker 9: it and they'll just start giving it to the players.
- 28:43Speaker 9: You know, I would assume sometime this weekend, maybe, you know,
- 28:46Speaker 9: maybe Sunday after the mock game, but I'm sure some
- 28:49Speaker 9: have already started blending in what they want to do
- 28:51Speaker 9: next weekend in Nashville.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Any movement as far as players up the depth chart,
- 28:56Speaker 5: maybe some prizes through camp for Ole Miss, some guys
- 28:58Speaker 5: you want to talk about?
- 28:59Speaker 9: Uh, you know, it feels like, you know, it was
- 29:02Speaker 9: out there unofficially saying it. Uh, I think Tommy Kinsler,
- 29:06Speaker 9: the Miami transfer is going to be your, your right tackle.
- 29:09Speaker 9: You know, I, I, I hesitate to say starter because
- 29:12Speaker 9: I don't know if they've got a starter, but I
- 29:14Speaker 9: think he's a guy that's taking the reps and maybe
- 29:17Speaker 9: out there on that first series in Nashville. I know
- 29:20Speaker 9: that's the one spot everybody's really been focusing on in
- 29:22Speaker 9: the offense. On the other side, I wish I had surprises.
- 29:27Speaker 9: We just didn't get to see so much of camp,
- 29:30Speaker 9: and we've officially stopped with practice for you now, I guess,
- 29:32Speaker 9: through the whole regular season till the post season. So, uh,
- 29:35Speaker 9: you know, I have hopes to see what, you know,
- 29:38Speaker 9: the transfers, the Jonathan Alvin autos, the Blake purchases, uh, uh,
- 29:42Speaker 9: Keaton Thomas's and I, and a lot of the secondary
- 29:44Speaker 9: and whole defense for me, I would love it to
- 29:46Speaker 9: be a surprise because I don't know what to expect yet.
- 29:49Speaker 5: This is with Jake Thompson talking Ole Miss football Wednesday
- 29:52Speaker 5: edition of the program.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Let me shift real quick. I don't know.
- 29:54Speaker 5: Um, what your schedule's like this year and how much
- 29:56Speaker 5: high school football you're going to be covering. But North Mississippi, again,
- 29:59Speaker 5: going to be loaded. Oxford under Chris Cutcliffe should be really,
- 30:02Speaker 5: really good this year. Tupelo should be good. And then,
- 30:06Speaker 5: of course, some other classifications. Should be a good year
- 30:07Speaker 5: for the North this year, shouldn't it?
- 30:09Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, it feels like, you know, on paper,
- 30:12Speaker 9: you would be going off how last year went and
- 30:14Speaker 9: the hype and the expectation I've seen of kind of
- 30:17Speaker 9: the statewide polls and those who do those things that
- 30:20Speaker 9: Oxford and Tupelo in the North are right up there. And,
- 30:22Speaker 9: of course, those were Oxford's two losses. They lost by 1.22
- 30:26Speaker 9: below in the north half game. I don't know if
- 30:28Speaker 9: there's any expectations to think that the Chargers and the
- 30:31Speaker 9: Wave wouldn't be the two favorites to represent the north
- 30:34Speaker 9: in that semi-game again. Obviously, everything changes come Friday when
- 30:38Speaker 9: you play the games. But, yeah, I think Cutcliffe's got
- 30:41Speaker 9: a good squad. They've got a quarterback from MUS transferring in.
- 30:44Speaker 9: As they lost, obviously, Knox, Kiffin down to Baton Rouge,
- 30:47Speaker 9: and Drew Dean, who ended up at Tupelo. So they've
- 30:50Speaker 9: got a familiar guy, a quarterback at Tupelo that Oxford
- 30:53Speaker 9: will know. So they went and got a kid who
- 30:55Speaker 9: transferred out of Memphis that they're high on and excited on. So, no,
- 30:58Speaker 9: I think it's going to be a good year for
- 31:00Speaker 9: 7A across the board.
- 31:02Speaker 5: He is Jake Thompson. Make sure to follow him on
- 31:04Speaker 5: X at JakeThompsonOM, and, of course, check out his work. Jake,
- 31:07Speaker 5: always appreciate your time. Look, we'll talk next week, and
- 31:09Speaker 5: we'll actually be in game week, my friend.
- 31:11Speaker 1: We have made it.
- 31:12Speaker 9: I'm excited to talk about X's and O's, so I
- 31:14Speaker 9: look forward to it. Appreciate you.
- 31:16Speaker 1: No doubt. Thank you.

- 33:04Speaker 5: will join us at 4.30. Outkick puts this out, says
- 33:09Speaker 5: the NFL is getting closer to flag football. A joint
- 33:12Speaker 5: statement from the NFL and the NFLPA today. Says for
- 33:17Speaker 5: the last several months, the NFL and the NFL Players Association,
- 33:20Speaker 5: the NFLPA, have worked together to update the league's on-field
- 33:24Speaker 5: accountability system.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I like the way they put that.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Clubs were briefed on the changes at today's league meetings
- 33:32Speaker 5: in Atlanta, where player leadership was briefed and voted on
- 33:35Speaker 5: the changes at a board of player representatives meeting on Tuesday, yesterday.
- 33:41Speaker 5: As the goal is simple, make the game safer by
- 33:44Speaker 5: focusing discipline, on the techniques most likely to result in
- 33:48Speaker 5: player injury rather than players who make isolated mistakes during competition.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Beginning this season in the NFL, quote, we will place
- 33:58Speaker 5: a greater emphasis on five player and safety rules violations.
- 34:03Speaker 5: So they're focusing on these five things. One, the hip
- 34:07Speaker 5: drop tackle. The hip drop tackle. So, you know, you
- 34:11Speaker 5: lock up on a guy, you drop your hips down
- 34:14Speaker 5: to try to get him down. That now is a
- 34:16Speaker 5: is a violation. Horse collar tackle. This has always been
- 34:19Speaker 5: a thing. You can't horse collar. I don't like the
- 34:21Speaker 5: horse collar. That's the one thing. I mean, look, that's
- 34:24Speaker 5: a play that can really... We saw, I believe, Travis
- 34:26Speaker 5: Hunter a couple years ago at Colorado. We've seen several.
- 34:28Speaker 5: That's a bad play. So that does need to be
- 34:31Speaker 5: more enforced.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Launching.
- 34:34Speaker 5: And again, that gets very gray when you talk about launching.
- 34:39Speaker 5: So if you're an explosive tackler or you have a
- 34:42Speaker 5: tackler who Really explodes into a tackle. I mean, what
- 34:47Speaker 5: are we talking about with launching? They're very vague on that.
- 34:49Speaker 5: Hit on a defenseless player. That's kind of always been
- 34:54Speaker 5: a thing. And then a blindside block. You can't do
- 34:56Speaker 5: that anymore. And you haven't been able to do that
- 35:00Speaker 5: for some time. Players who commit three offenses in any
- 35:04Speaker 5: of these categories during the season will be suspended for
- 35:06Speaker 5: one game. Players who commit only one violation will receive
- 35:11Speaker 5: 50% of their fine back at the end of the season.
- 35:14Speaker 5: While violations in these categories will carry forward to subsequent seasons,
- 35:19Speaker 5: all players will begin 2026 with a clean slate. Players
- 35:22Speaker 5: will also have a clearer and faster path to reducing
- 35:25Speaker 5: the impact of prior offenses than under the previous system.
- 35:31Speaker 5: So I get some of these. The hip drop tackle
- 35:36Speaker 5: is the one thing that I'm kind of head scratching,
- 35:38Speaker 5: and then launching can be very speculative. It's objective, I
- 35:43Speaker 5: think it is, at least on the launching. So that's
- 35:45Speaker 5: some news there from the NFL. Also, Greg Sankey, again,
- 35:50Speaker 5: if you missed it, announcing today schools that violate the
- 35:53Speaker 5: SEC professional sports rule will result in a 50% season
- 35:58Speaker 5: suspension for the head coach, 50% of the sports annual
- 36:02Speaker 5: operating budget, and SEC voting privilege on business matters.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Will be revoked.
- 36:10Speaker 5: Also, some other news that's out there, as it pertains
- 36:15Speaker 5: to LSU and everything going on with the SEC, because
- 36:19Speaker 5: LSU abstained from the vote.
- 36:21Speaker 1: They did not vote. They just decided, nope, we're not
- 36:23Speaker 1: in it.
- 36:23Speaker 5: 15-0 LSU, 15-0 in favor of the new SEC rule.
- 36:28Speaker 1: LSU did not vote.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Aaron Heitner, representing tight end Daquan Wright in all of this,
- 36:35Speaker 5: who was and is expected to soon sign with LSU,
- 36:39Speaker 5: believes the language in the Louisiana injunction provides a, quote,
- 36:42Speaker 5: colorblind argument to cover conference-wide policies as well. Rights reps are, quote,
- 36:49Speaker 5: figuring out next steps in real time. Also, Ryan Downton,
- 36:56Speaker 5: one of the attorneys representing players in the Louisiana case,
- 36:59Speaker 5: tells Yahoo Sports that the NCAA should be held, quote,
- 37:01Speaker 5: in contempt of court for permitting conferences under its purview.
- 37:07Speaker 5: to blatantly violate court orders, and he plans to file
- 37:10Speaker 5: such a motion. You're fixing to see a lot of lawsuits,
- 37:13Speaker 5: more lawsuits. Not that we don't already have enough. You're
- 37:16Speaker 5: going to see more lawsuits happen, and LSU is digging
- 37:21Speaker 5: their heels in here. This seems like the wrong fight
- 37:25Speaker 5: to fight, though, honestly. I mean, does LSU really feel
- 37:30Speaker 5: that two or three of these players can take them
- 37:32Speaker 5: from ten wins, nine wins, to the national championship?
- 37:37Speaker 1: I mean, maybe they do.
- 37:38Speaker 5: Maybe they feel that adamant about it. But they have
- 37:41Speaker 5: dug their heels in, abstaining from votes today with the SEC,
- 37:45Speaker 5: attorneys and representatives speaking on behalf of these players, asking, one,
- 37:51Speaker 5: asking for the NCAA to be held in contempt of
- 37:55Speaker 5: court for permitting conferences to make these rules, which, again,
- 38:00Speaker 5: the NCAA has no power.
- 38:03Speaker 1: We know that.
- 38:04Speaker 5: Also, separately, Doughton says attorneys are considering the appropriate legal
- 38:08Speaker 5: response to hold the Big Ten and SEC accountable for their, quote,
- 38:13Speaker 5: cartel-like coordination with the NCAA.
- 38:16Speaker 1: That's a reach.
- 38:17Speaker 5: I mean, cartel-like coordination with the NCAA. First off, I
- 38:22Speaker 5: don't think the SEC and the Big Ten is collaborating
- 38:26Speaker 5: with the NCAA. I think because the NCAA won't do anything,
- 38:31Speaker 5: they've taken it upon themselves to say, hey, look, We're
- 38:34Speaker 5: going to self-govern our leagues, and we're going to protect
- 38:37Speaker 5: our leagues from this because the NCAA is doing nothing.
- 38:41Speaker 5: It is clear that attorneys are poised to fight legal
- 38:43Speaker 5: challenges against the two conferences. So representatives for these players
- 38:49Speaker 5: are fixing to go after the NCAA and hold them
- 38:53Speaker 5: in contempt of court. They also feel like they have found, quote,
- 38:56Speaker 5: workarounds and, quote, colorable arguments to help get these players eligible.
- 39:02Speaker 5: I mean, look, you think the Brendan Sorsby thing, that
- 39:04Speaker 5: was one thing. And look, Texas Tech, they tried to
- 39:09Speaker 5: hold the line there for a while on that, for
- 39:11Speaker 5: about a week.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Then they backed off of it.
- 39:15Speaker 5: And Texas Tech's the one team that's smiling at this going,
- 39:17Speaker 5: y'all go right ahead. We were the ugly duckling in
- 39:21Speaker 5: the room. Now LSU has decided they want to pick
- 39:24Speaker 5: up that that mantra and run with it and now
- 39:28Speaker 5: you've got uh attorneys that are going to you know
- 39:30Speaker 5: allegedly go after the sec and the big 10 calling
- 39:33Speaker 5: their actions cartel-like coordinations with the ncaa the big 12
- 39:39Speaker 5: directors big 12 athletic directors met earlier tuesday yesterday and
- 39:43Speaker 5: are in a unanimous support of a band of professional
- 39:45Speaker 5: players returning to compete in the conference uh Sources tell
- 39:49Speaker 5: Yahoo Sports the league is expected to finalize the policy
- 39:51Speaker 5: in the next 24 to 36 hours. So that was yesterday,
- 39:54Speaker 5: so they're probably about a day away. You should see
- 39:56Speaker 5: that tomorrow. Also, Notre Dame officials have communicated to both
- 40:02Speaker 5: the SEC and the Big Ten that the school is
- 40:06Speaker 5: aligned with the prohibition on signing players who have been
- 40:11Speaker 5: a part of the professional organizations. The Irish are adamantly
- 40:14Speaker 5: opposed to adding pro players. So Notre Dame has jumped
- 40:18Speaker 5: in there, as they always do. You know, they're going
- 40:20Speaker 5: to align with the big boys and said, hey, look,
- 40:22Speaker 5: we believe what the Big Ten is saying. We believe
- 40:24Speaker 5: what the SEC is saying. We align with this, and
- 40:27Speaker 5: this is our stance as well. So Notre Dame is
- 40:29Speaker 5: on board now. A little NFL news here. Buccaneers first-round
- 40:33Speaker 5: pick Reuben Bain Jr. suffered an AC sprain, but it's
- 40:37Speaker 5: said to be nothing serious in quotes, and he is
- 40:40Speaker 5: expected to be ready for week one against Cincinnati at
- 40:43Speaker 5: Cincinnati on the road. A little bit of a sigh
- 40:45Speaker 5: of relief, as Ian Rappaport says, for a promising pass
- 40:48Speaker 5: rusher for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Speaking of Texas Tech,
- 40:53Speaker 5: they are back in the news. And we'll tell you
- 40:56Speaker 5: about that as Texas Tech, they're not going to let
- 40:59Speaker 5: everybody else get ahead of them. They're going to continue
- 41:01Speaker 5: to stay in the news in this transfer portal madness,
- 41:03Speaker 5: and we'll get into that as well. We're brought to
- 41:05Speaker 5: you by the MHSAA. The Mississippi High School Activities Association
- 41:08Speaker 5: wants you to be an official member. And you can
- 41:10Speaker 5: do that in any sport that you love.
