- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hey friend, I'm Mike McCurrent.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're listening to the Bible Trek echoes radio broadcasts.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so very thankful that you are.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Today on the broadcast, we are going to conclude a powerful message from Dr. Paul Levine, our founder, the man whose voice was first heard on Bible Trek echoes this very radio broadcast, well over many decades ago, back in 1958.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: Peter in the sifter.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Peter in the sifter.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about the fact that we can't be too careful.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about the fact that there is an evil one that wants to destroy us, destroy our testimony, and make us unusable for the glory of God.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: We'll friend that's not my prayer.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: My prayer is that I, that we, that this ministry would remain usable and make an incredible impact for the glory of God, I want you to listen today with an open mind and stick around for just a few comments at the conclusion of the broadcast.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now, let's step back in time all the way back to 1979, and Dr. Paul Levine is preaching to us.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: went to a foreign nation field as a missionary but had to come home and disgrace.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_02]: He got mixed up with woman.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: Did you say a missionary?
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: If a missionary would fall like that, we'll tell you what you and I might do under certain circumstances if we're weak.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: I know of another case where a man in his wife went to a foreign mission field, and while they were over there, this was an Africa, the wife of the missionary had a lesbian and lesbian family, they had to come home in this group.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: The devil couldn't keep them from going to the Bible College, the devil couldn't keep the young man from home in the seminary.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: He couldn't even keep them off the mission field, but he could destroy their testimonies in a moment of week.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's what the devil's out to do.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: Or, you know, it's just sort of scares me when I think about how the devil is out to destroy life.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: I owe a series of meetings in a certain time.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: And Pastor says, now I want you to come back next year, so make sure, about a month before the meetings were to start, I got a letter from one of the deacons of the church.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: But we weren't you to come and conduct a meeting, Jenny, huh?
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I wrote back and I said, well, I was waiting for me.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: Don't depends on why your pastor is going.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: I said, why is your pastor going?
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: And if he's going, how many more people have gone?
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's what's happening.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: And the big church splatters on him.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: I said, don't anymore.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_02]: He wrote back and he said, no, no, no, no.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: What's your going?
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: Are the pastor and the family of the young lady he went down to the hotel to live with?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: And here there's pastor who was 45 or 50 years of age took a young woman about 18 or 20 took her down to the whole tail right in the very time where they live and the fair with her down there.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: He said, that's why he's long.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: And that family left everybody else is here.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Would you please come back to our altar?
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: I got a little bus, a little bit there and I got there, but 11 o'clock at night, one of the deacons met me, and he said, Bob, you're saying you're in his wife going to stay with a family out in the country, and he said, you're going to stay in the parsnits.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: The pastor was gone now, so you're going to stay in the parsnits.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody in that parsnits.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: I said, who else don't stay with me in that parsnits?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: He said, nobody else.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: He said, you just can stay there and have the whole parsnits to yourself.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I said, I'm going to stay there.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: said you're not, let's know, I wouldn't take a chance on staying there.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if I could picture this parsley to you, it was a parsley that had a long force, but the portion didn't go across the front of the parsley.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's important on one side of it.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: When you go up on the front step and you walk and you walk on the porch quite a distance to the front door.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if you're coming
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: from one direction, you could see that front force.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're coming from another direction, you couldn't see that front force.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I said to this fellow, now I said, look, you just had some moral troubles with your pastor, and he's gone.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Now I said no, look, forcing him to stay in the Obama set.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, I was just a young fellow, man.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: Then now, I so ugly and old, old boy, making a difference.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, my accused me of anything anymore now.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: But this was when I was young and good luck and faith.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: And had a lot of money too, no, this.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: I said, no, I look, I said, I know this part of these, I, I state they're doing the other means.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's if somebody comes from that direction, they can't see that force.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Then I said, supposing a lady comes up on the port and she's selling magazines or she's taking a census or something.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: She knocks on the door and I go to the door and I don't let her in.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I close the door and she walks up the portion.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, as she's walking off the portion coming down those front staffs here Come some members of the church or somebody they hate the church come drive along in the car and they see a woman walk They say, oh so woman walking on that person.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's we're that preacher stay him See then alive.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: I said they can start all can't just always listen to and they're gonna stay there.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm scared to say that
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I'll tell you what, just take me to a hotel and I'll pay my own way in a hotel.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: No, I said, we're not going to pay your own way.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll take your home with me.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so I went home with him.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I could see that his wife was scurrying around like 60, fixing their bed from me to sleepy.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, that the only bed you have here is a yes.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: He said, we're going to let you take our bedroom.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: I said, where are you going to sleep?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he said, I don't know.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be going to floor sleep somewhere.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: there was a couch in the front room and I said, you don't have to do that.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: I said, I'll be glad to sleep on this couch.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was one of these couches that opened up into a bed.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, you mean, I said, yeah, that would be all right.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: Me, I'll just sleep around the couch.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: The thing didn't open up and it was too short for me.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: And my hind legs went over this and and my neck went over this and I slept in this position.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: For two weeks, I slept on that couch.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't long enough for me.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: at any little one side of every morning when I got a feel like I had a broken neck behind feet follow the other side but I'd rather go I'd rather do that and stay in that part of your mind myself and have somebody start a story although we can't be too careful Satan's purpose is to wreck your testimony before your wife your kids to keep you worked with the people you know and then number two the Savior's prayer
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: That was going to shift you, but I have prayed for you.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: For that, that.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: That would be the most wonderful thing to have somebody test.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I saw Jim Statenborough one day, the man leads us saying in here, he said, brother Paul, he said this morning I had breakfast with Dr. John R. Rice and his home, they lived at that time in Wheaton, Illinois.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: He said, I had breakfast with Dr. John R. Rice, and he said, I was there for their family order, and he said, he prayed for you out loud.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like a hearted bleeding.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: I said, you mean a big man like John R. Rice, remember in the prayer for a little pumpkin like me?
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: He said, yes, he prayed for you out loud,
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've had several people say, I pray for you every day.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: I guess can't I believe they mean it, but I guess they do.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're just starting, bro.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: Then a wonderful to know that Dr. Gunnar, I should pray for me every day.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Wouldn't it be wonderful to have some giant and prayer, like praying, hide, or child's fingers, somebody like that say, I pray for you every day?
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I know somebody pray for you every day.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: Our blessing, Lord, is praying for us every day.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: He's our high priest and he prays for us every day because we're weak.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: See?
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: One more thing.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: with that Satan's purpose in the sifting business to destroy our testimony, Satan's prayer.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: He says, I've already prayed for your Peter, and then, last, the sinners prays.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: Peter, prays God once all over with.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: And when was all over with, and Peter went to the sifter, and he denied the Lord, and he cursed, and he swore, and he lied, and went through it, and pailed so miserably, and everybody saw the chaff and Peter's life Peter learned a lesson.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: I need to pray more.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: I need to read my Bible more.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: I need to have family older more regularly.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: Can I have learned what a treacherous wicked heart I have?
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I have learned how cunning Satan is.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I've learned how powerful sin is to learn something else.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: I've learned what a wonderful Savior I have.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't went through the Sith.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: Later on, after the Lord's resurrection, he made him one day and he said, Peter, listen to this now.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: You love me.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: And if this would have been before Peter went to the sifter and he had the chef.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know what Peter said?
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he said a real-out to everybody can hear it.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: And they want to hear it.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: You love me?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Lord.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know why?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: I love you.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: I love you more than anybody else around here.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: Love you.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: Not now.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: He's not bragging now.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: He's not boastful now.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: The chef's gone.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: He said that he said, well, now Lord, if I love you, you know what?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I love you, not?
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: And the Lord kept pressing him to the alarm and he just kept saying, Oh, Lord, if I love you, you know it.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: None of this, then it's about going, no, it's this.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: Before the safety, before Peter went through the sifter, and everybody saw the chair, he said, I'll go with you in the prison and in the death, but he didn't.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Norris, after he has gone through the scepter and after he has failed and everybody has seen the chap and after he has learned his valuable lesson, he didn't say our goal with you in the prison and in the death, but bless God, he did.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: First time he did a lot of talking and did nothing.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Afterwards, he didn't talk any when he produced the goods, and he went with the Lord Jesus
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: he went with him into death.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: When they crucified him, he said, I'm not willing to be crucified like my Lord, so just crucify him of side down.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: The sifter had done his work.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: Now look, if you and I would let the Lord win us, if we were just let him point out the chap in our eyes and we'd repent of him and confess it and put it aside, he would win us and get rid of the chap that way.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: But if we don't let the Lord win us and separate the week from the chapter easy way, he may allow you and me to go through the devil's sifter and learn the hard way.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: As people see the chaff and see our failures, we may have to learn the hard way.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to get rid of the chaff.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: One way or the other, through Satan's safety or the Savior's.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is it possible that Dr. Paul went just a little too far in his desire to stay away from accusations?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Is it possible that he may have gone overboard in abstaining from all appearance of evil?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's certainly possible.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: but I believe one of the reasons.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible tracks incorporated has been so very blessed and so highly thought of for these many years is for that very reason because we had a founder that took precautions that was maybe just maybe
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: too careful.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thankful for our legacy.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thankful for our history.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thankful for the fact that there aren't skeletons popping out of every closet around us.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm thankful for the fact that I can look back and think of the good name of Dr. Paul Avine, but can I ask you to pray for me?
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: and pray for us here at BTI today.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Pray that we continue and keep this good legacy alive for the glory of God.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: Let's be careful because you can't be too careful.
