- 0:33Speaker 1: I would put it on a scale if Jesus was
- 0:35Speaker 1: buried and rose again three days later. Well that and
- 0:46Speaker 1: that story's got a lot of press.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's an old story and I don't know
- 0:52Speaker 3: any witnesses. I don't know any witnesses to that story.
- 0:56Speaker 1: In this one, well, this one, there's a witness that
- 0:59Speaker 1: this story. There's a witness, and we need to find them.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's the objective. So if you're if you're listening or watching,
- 1:07Speaker 1: pay special attention to this story. It's a story about
- 1:10Speaker 1: the salvation of a dog, the resurrection of a dog,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and there's a person, there's a person in this country
- 1:20Speaker 1: of tremendous interest, possibly two or three people of tremendous interest,
- 1:24Speaker 1: if we can find them.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, we're looking for one more puzzle piece.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But first, Oh go ahead, No, you're good.

- 1:42Speaker 4: somebody saw something or got home and said, you won't
- 1:44Speaker 4: believe what I saw today.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yep, and they're out there. We're going to find them.

- 3:26Speaker 1: My special friend Ronnie Bain is gonna tell us a
- 3:30Speaker 1: dog story.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And Ronnie, if you want to set it up with
- 3:35Speaker 1: a little like, if you want to set it up
- 3:37Speaker 1: with a little bit of dog history about your dogs,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you were the first guy knew who got serious about dogs.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I mean like really serious that would.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Have gangs of them and be messing with them and
- 3:48Speaker 1: experimenting with them and not just like a dog that
- 3:52Speaker 1: you had and then that dog dies and you get
- 3:54Speaker 1: another one. It's kind of how dog ownership generally went
- 3:56Speaker 1: in our area.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Yeah, most people could only do one dog, and uh
- 4:02Speaker 4: I I kind of jumped with both feet into it
- 4:04Speaker 4: and started. You know, I got involved with a Versatle
- 4:08Speaker 4: Dog Club. I apprenticed and became a judge and a
- 4:12Speaker 4: senior judge for for Versalle hunting dogs. But you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: the first couple of dogs I had that you knew.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I know why you got turned off by dogs. I've
- 4:22Speaker 4: heard you talk about it before, and.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Because we had I grew up with the world's greatest dog.
- 4:29Speaker 3: But go on, yeah you had the Duchess. Yeah, and
- 4:34Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I had anyway along the along the line, if you
- 4:41Speaker 4: own enough dogs, and I think I had a list
- 4:43Speaker 4: of them somewhere. I think I've had twenty three dogs,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and someone at my age might have, you know, six
- 4:51Speaker 4: if they were won by.
- 4:54Speaker 3: And I raised several litters of dogs.
- 4:56Speaker 4: But anyway, years back in two thousand and four, yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 4: two thousand and four, I Memorial Day weekend, I was
- 5:05Speaker 4: living in Virginia and I was still living in a
- 5:08Speaker 4: hotel at the time, and I would take my dogs.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I always traveled with at least a couple of dogs.
- 5:14Speaker 4: And I had two of them out in the far
- 5:17Speaker 4: back of a parking lot of this hotel, and I
- 5:20Speaker 4: would let them free range so they could poop and
- 5:23Speaker 4: pee before I put them back in the truck. And
- 5:26Speaker 4: it was like a ritual every night. And I never
- 5:29Speaker 4: knew there was a live entrance to this parking lot.
- 5:32Speaker 4: And I saw a vehicle coming as it turned out
- 5:34Speaker 4: to be a full sized delivery van, and both my
- 5:38Speaker 4: dogs were still over this berm and I made the
- 5:42Speaker 4: grave mistake, maybe it was the grave mistake of whistling
- 5:44Speaker 4: form thinking I'd get them in, you know, I'd get
- 5:47Speaker 4: them rounded up before this vehicle came toward me.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And lo and behold, Zigen.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Came right up across that road in front of my
- 5:57Speaker 4: eyes and got smacked by a full size It was
- 6:01Speaker 4: a Ford delivery van, and I estimated it to be
- 6:06Speaker 4: maybe about thirty forty maybe forty five miles an hour.
- 6:10Speaker 4: And I watched this happen. I watched this dog get broadsided,
- 6:16Speaker 4: rolled underneath the truck. He was laying on his back,
- 6:20Speaker 4: urinating on the ground, bleeding out of his mouth, and
- 6:25Speaker 4: had I had I had a pistol or something to
- 6:29Speaker 4: euthanize him with, I would because of what I saw
- 6:33Speaker 4: on what I saw on the ground, it was it
- 6:35Speaker 4: was not going to be able to make it anyway.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Called one of the guys that worked for me. He
- 6:39Speaker 4: came and helped me put him in the truck. He
- 6:42Speaker 4: was about a seventy five pound dog and went to
- 6:45Speaker 4: an all night vet that was not far away into town.
- 6:50Speaker 4: They kept a dog till six o'clock in the morning.
- 6:53Speaker 4: He was still, miraculously alive. Cracked ribs on one side
- 6:58Speaker 4: of his body, blood in his blood around his heart, lungs, liver, spleen,
- 7:03Speaker 4: not good. Fortunately, not broken legs, all broken ribs. And
- 7:08Speaker 4: he ended up going to a place, a critical care
- 7:11Speaker 4: place in Richmond, Virginia. He spent seven days there and
- 7:16Speaker 4: I got him back and two months later, maybe two
- 7:20Speaker 4: and a half months later, I actually ran them in
- 7:23Speaker 4: a high level test. We didn't pass, but it wasn't
- 7:26Speaker 4: because of his physical.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Problems.
- 7:30Speaker 4: It was just because we had a couple of little
- 7:32Speaker 4: foupads in the test.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Later on, and you dedicated this.
- 7:37Speaker 4: In fact, anytime I've watched the episode that you and
- 7:39Speaker 4: I did on Stage Grouse. I was at a state
- 7:43Speaker 4: park in Indiana maybe ten years later and opened the
- 7:48Speaker 4: dog that opened the kennels on my three dog kennel,
- 7:52Speaker 4: and two of my.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Dogs were stone cold dead.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Turned out they got into some kind of a poison
- 7:57Speaker 4: or a not anti freeze, but some kind of a poison.
- 8:01Speaker 4: All I had them out in the woods the day before.
- 8:04Speaker 4: So I've had some you know, and anybody's been in
- 8:06Speaker 4: the long enough's had this kind of luck or lack
- 8:09Speaker 4: of luck. These things happen to you, and you just
- 8:12Speaker 4: you just move forward. And that's kind of one of
- 8:14Speaker 4: the reasons there's always more dogs that.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Have to be fed. I can't I can't stop and go.
- 8:20Speaker 4: But so I've had a pretty good stretch now without
- 8:23Speaker 4: anything happening until Thursday, the eighteenth of this month, I
- 8:28Speaker 4: took off four.
- 8:30Speaker 3: North Dakota, and I had four dogs in my truck.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I had a small kennel in the back seat of
- 8:36Speaker 4: my truck for my Cocker Spaniel. I have built in
- 8:40Speaker 4: stainless steel, an aluminum dog box that each has one
- 8:45Speaker 4: dog in it, and a transportation kennel that you can
- 8:49Speaker 4: take in and out of a truck mounted on top
- 8:52Speaker 4: of those dog kennels and bolted down.
- 8:56Speaker 3: So I'm dry. I got a buff.
- 9:00Speaker 4: I get out of the house about five thirty in
- 9:01Speaker 4: the morning. It's dark out. I'm heading down south. I
- 9:05Speaker 4: got to get through Indiana and Chicago and work my
- 9:08Speaker 4: way up toward I ninety four.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Ronnie's leaving West Michigan, Moskegon County, twin Town, Michigan
- 9:15Speaker 1: right heading south down around the bottom end of Lake Michigan,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and then you're going to head west from there.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Right exactly.
- 9:23Speaker 4: And I can say that what happened next is my
- 9:28Speaker 4: fault because when I was loading everything up, probably about
- 9:33Speaker 4: four four thirty in the morning, making a final check
- 9:35Speaker 4: with everything. This particular dog he he kennels like if
- 9:39Speaker 4: I point at something he kennels, it could be a
- 9:41Speaker 4: cardboard box, he'll jump in it. And his name is Tagus.
- 9:46Speaker 4: He's a wire haired Visula. And I opened that kennel
- 9:52Speaker 4: door and he jumped up in there, and I.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Closed the door.
- 9:57Speaker 4: The door appeared to be closed, but I pull on it.
- 10:01Speaker 4: It even has additional safety latches. But this is an
- 10:04Speaker 4: enclosed camper like a cap.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah you got like, yeah, you got a dog box
- 10:10Speaker 1: in a topper.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yes, in a topper. For lack of a better that's
- 10:14Speaker 3: a perfect description. So again, I I didn't check.
- 10:19Speaker 4: The door looked like it was closed it obviously it wasn't. Anyway,
- 10:24Speaker 4: I'm proceeding to go down. I stopped for a cup
- 10:27Speaker 4: of coffee. I stop at another stop. I had to
- 10:30Speaker 4: pick some stuff up from somebody and the phone rings.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Now rnrow gotta throw something in here because it's reminding
- 10:38Speaker 1: me of a Ronnie is one of the America's great
- 10:42Speaker 1: long distance drivers, among the among the best, well among
- 10:49Speaker 1: the best long distance drivers. Ronnie used to go, I
- 10:53Speaker 1: don't know if you still use this strategy, I mean
- 10:55Speaker 1: among the best longest I mean bad driver.
- 10:58Speaker 2: He's not a great driver.
- 11:01Speaker 1: But in terms of like long haul, m let's just
- 11:08Speaker 1: drive to Florida right now and not stop. Kind of
- 11:10Speaker 1: like driving like among America's best.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, for not being a for not having a CDL
- 11:17Speaker 4: license and driving a semi, I'd agree.
- 11:19Speaker 1: With among the best, so serious about it. He'll pull
- 11:23Speaker 1: in to a gas station and get a cup of
- 11:26Speaker 1: ice and then sit there and just drop those ice
- 11:31Speaker 1: cubes down the back of his shirt.
- 11:35Speaker 2: That motivated.
- 11:38Speaker 1: You just slip one slip one down the back of
- 11:41Speaker 1: his shirt kind of and then just that motivated like
- 11:45Speaker 1: he ain't stopping.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Well, that's that's true. I drove most of the way
- 11:56Speaker 3: back from the Arctic Circle to Fairbanks with you.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Against the window, well part of it.
- 12:03Speaker 3: The other part of the time he argued about the
- 12:05Speaker 3: nsay listening to phone calls.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Okay, so go on, sorry you stopped. You got a coffee.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I just had to throw that in there because I
- 12:14Speaker 1: was wondering if you got a bucket all East Tube.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a eleven mile trip.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I'm on and I'm not I'm not pending on stopping,
- 12:22Speaker 4: so I'm fueled up. I'm coffeed up my phone rings.
- 12:27Speaker 4: It was about seven thirty I looked it up in
- 12:29Speaker 4: a call log. It was seven thirty six. And the
- 12:33Speaker 4: person who caretakes my house in Virginia is a fellow
- 12:39Speaker 4: named Bill Bill Walters, and I was down there just
- 12:44Speaker 4: a week before. We can have four dove hunting. And
- 12:48Speaker 4: he doesn't usually call me in the morning. He usually
- 12:50Speaker 4: calls me if there's a problem with the lawnmower or something.
- 12:53Speaker 4: And I pick up the phone and I said, yeah, Bill,
- 12:56Speaker 4: all right, and pick up I answered it on my
- 12:58Speaker 4: dashboard and.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I say, yeah, what's up?
- 13:00Speaker 4: He says, Ron, I just got the strangest call from
- 13:05Speaker 4: a California number from a woman. Now, Bill can take
- 13:09Speaker 4: a long time to tell his story. I said, well,
- 13:10Speaker 4: what's up? He said? She said, sir, I'm sorry to
- 13:15Speaker 4: tell you this, but your dog was hit by a
- 13:17Speaker 4: car on I ninety four in Virginia. And I'm taking
- 13:22Speaker 4: it the dog. I have the dog in my car.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Oh back up, she didn't say that. You said I
- 13:29Speaker 1: ninety four in Virginia.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Yes, you're right. She said, your
- 13:34Speaker 3: dog wash.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Your dog was hit on I ninety four in Michigan.
- 13:38Speaker 4: That's what she And this is Bill telling me what
- 13:40Speaker 4: she told him.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Bill's in Virginia.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Bill's in Virginia at his kitchen table and he answers
- 13:48Speaker 4: the phone. That's what the lady tells him. And he says, well, ma'am,
- 13:52Speaker 4: my dog is sitting by my feet. And he said, so,
- 13:58Speaker 4: I don't know what to tell you, and she's as well,
- 14:01Speaker 4: it has your phone number. I've got it right here.
- 14:04Speaker 4: It has your phone number on a military type dog tag,
- 14:07Speaker 4: but no name. I don't know if you can see that.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Ron is presenting for you people not watching. Ron is
- 14:13Speaker 1: presenting a dog collar exhibit, a orange dog collar, the
- 14:18Speaker 1: dog tags and a number. Don't don't show your phone
- 14:22Speaker 1: number you're gonna get Ronnie's buddy.
- 14:26Speaker 2: He does want to hear from you.
- 14:29Speaker 4: He doesn't want to hear from me. So he said, well, ma'am,
- 14:34Speaker 4: I don't know what to tell you. And then she said,
- 14:37Speaker 4: it's an orange car heart collar. This is what she's'
- 14:42Speaker 4: this is what he's translating to me. Time I'm saying, Bill,
- 14:46Speaker 4: well that's impossible. It's just one of those tags you
- 14:49Speaker 4: order at the front counter and somebody's probably got the
- 14:51Speaker 4: number wrong. He goes, yeah, but I lent you that
- 14:54Speaker 4: collar when you were here dove hunting.
- 14:57Speaker 3: And it hit me like a ton of bricks. I
- 15:00Speaker 3: needed a different collar.
- 15:01Speaker 4: The one he had on was all just getting gnarly,
- 15:04Speaker 4: and I asked Bill if he had an extra collar.
- 15:07Speaker 4: And the minute that hit me, I started like hyperventilating
- 15:12Speaker 4: and or not breathing. And from seventy two I keep
- 15:16Speaker 4: my spinometer at seventy two on cruise control, I pulled
- 15:20Speaker 4: over like as quick as I could without locking up
- 15:25Speaker 4: the brakes, even got into the grass. A little bit
- 15:27Speaker 4: on the shoulder of the road. And I'm getting a
- 15:32Speaker 4: little emotional now, and I jump out of the car
- 15:37Speaker 4: and I open up the back hood, the back door
- 15:40Speaker 4: like you would on any cap and there I see
- 15:44Speaker 4: the dog kennel door open and the window, the screen
- 15:47Speaker 4: on this sliding window halfway hanging out of the vehicle,
- 15:54Speaker 4: and I just lose it. I mean, I'm just I
- 16:00Speaker 4: didn't even know if. I don't know if I stood
- 16:03Speaker 4: there for two minutes, I don't know if I was crying.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I know, I couldn't walk. And I got right back
- 16:10Speaker 4: in the truck and I called Bill back and I
- 16:15Speaker 4: was I know I was crying, and I said, Bill,
- 16:17Speaker 4: it's tag Us, It's tag Us. It's who's this lady.
- 16:21Speaker 4: And he says, I've got the number. I gave her
- 16:24Speaker 4: your number, and I'll send you her number. And I'm
- 16:29Speaker 4: about at this point, I'm about two miles from the
- 16:32Speaker 4: Indiana line, and I got to turn around and get
- 16:37Speaker 4: an exit and go back, but I don't know where
- 16:38Speaker 4: I'm going back to. And Steve, you know that that
- 16:42Speaker 4: chunk of I ninety four that we come from our
- 16:45Speaker 4: house in Twin Lake. You're only on ninety four for
- 16:48Speaker 4: about thirty five thirty six miles or forty miles now,
- 16:52Speaker 4: so all I know was is on nine ninety four,
- 16:56Speaker 4: And I immediately start calling this.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Woman's number and it goes right to voicemail.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Write the voicemail, and I call again, and I'm yelling
- 17:06Speaker 4: at my dashboard for this lady to answer. I don't
- 17:09Speaker 4: know her name even yet, and I'm driving north and
- 17:14Speaker 4: I'm thinking, I don't know where to go, so I
- 17:16Speaker 4: just pull off the next exit because I'm like, I
- 17:19Speaker 4: don't want to go all the way to Benton Harbor
- 17:21Speaker 4: if it was in wherever.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And finally she.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Calls me up and I said, oh, thank god, I said,
- 17:29Speaker 4: and I said, my name is Ron. She says, my
- 17:31Speaker 4: name is Kristen, and she said, yeah, your dog was
- 17:35Speaker 4: hit on nine ninety four, and I have it in
- 17:38Speaker 4: my truck and I'm bringing it to my veterinarian in
- 17:41Speaker 4: Barryon Springs, Michigan. And I'm right now, I'm in a
- 17:46Speaker 4: parking lot right off the side of of the highway
- 17:48Speaker 4: at a gas station, and I'm shaken. And I finally said,
- 17:53Speaker 4: I said, I think. I said, I'm sure he's dead
- 17:57Speaker 4: or how bad is it? And she said I don't
- 18:02Speaker 4: know how to tell you this, but I was driving
- 18:06Speaker 4: southbound on nine ninety four this morning and I saw
- 18:09Speaker 4: what I thought was a cardboard box up ahead on
- 18:13Speaker 4: the shoulder of the road, on the or in the
- 18:15Speaker 4: left lane of the road. At this point, ninety four
- 18:18Speaker 4: is three lanes wide. And Steve, have you've ever seen
- 18:23Speaker 4: a box floating around on a road? You're afraid something's
- 18:25Speaker 4: in it or it's gonna get stuck under your car,
- 18:27Speaker 4: you know.
- 18:27Speaker 3: When you see you've seen that?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Oh yea.
- 18:30Speaker 4: So she I don't know if she slowed down or
- 18:32Speaker 4: she just noticed it, but she noticed it going in
- 18:36Speaker 4: front of a semi truck, and then the semi truck
- 18:41Speaker 4: was in the middle lane. I went over this with
- 18:43Speaker 4: her again this morning. Semi truck was in the middle lane.
- 18:47Speaker 4: There was an SUV. She didn't describe the brand, but
- 18:50Speaker 4: she it was. She said, an SUV was in the
- 18:54Speaker 4: right lane, the slow lane, as as was she and
- 18:59Speaker 4: she saw this brown object get missed by the truck,
- 19:05Speaker 4: and then with the suv what she saw was darkness
- 19:10Speaker 4: underneath between There was daylight out now the where you
- 19:15Speaker 4: could normally look through someone's you know, vehicle.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah, well, like something underneath there, and then.
- 19:23Speaker 4: What she saw was tagus shoot out between the wheels
- 19:29Speaker 4: of the rear of the vehicle. And this is at
- 19:31Speaker 4: full highway speed and start rolling high speed over and
- 19:37Speaker 4: over and over and over and over. She said, like
- 19:39Speaker 4: a like a can rolling down the road.
- 19:42Speaker 3: And then she thought it was a deer because he's
- 19:44Speaker 3: like that red brown color. And then it stood up.
- 19:49Speaker 3: She said, it stood up.
- 19:53Speaker 4: It rolled from the car it was in the slow lane,
- 19:56Speaker 4: rolled onto the shoulder just about to the grass, and
- 19:59Speaker 4: it stood up. And all the while she's stopping, she's
- 20:03Speaker 4: getting she's starting to stop, and she said it stood
- 20:07Speaker 4: up and it just stood there, and then she pulled off.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Only got her nose. She told me this this morning
- 20:14Speaker 4: because I wanted more detail. She only put the nose
- 20:16Speaker 4: of her car, the front wheels into the shoulder of
- 20:20Speaker 4: the road, kind of pointing at the grass. And she
- 20:23Speaker 4: opened the door and the dog started walking back out
- 20:27Speaker 4: into the slow lane, and she, I think, she said,
- 20:32Speaker 4: she left the door open, and she started calling the dog,
- 20:35Speaker 4: calling the dog, and he was kind of confused, kind
- 20:38Speaker 4: of walking around in a circle, but still heading back
- 20:42Speaker 4: into the traffic. And then she just went up to
- 20:45Speaker 4: him and grabbed him by the collar and she had
- 20:49Speaker 4: an additional collar in her This is the I told
- 20:52Speaker 4: you this would take forever to tell you, Steve, No,
- 20:54Speaker 4: you're doing good, because part of me can't still I
- 20:59Speaker 4: go back into this craziness of this. She she does volunteer.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Her name is Kristin Clausen and she literally does volunteer
- 21:09Speaker 4: work for a group called Animal Aid of Southwest Michigan.
- 21:14Speaker 4: And her friends have told her, like they've been in
- 21:17Speaker 4: the car with her and she'll see a stray dog.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Or a loose dog with no owner.
- 21:21Speaker 4: She keeps leashes and collars in her back seat where
- 21:25Speaker 4: if she sees a dog, and her friends have told her, Kristin,
- 21:29Speaker 4: you are gonna get hurt or killed doing this.
- 21:31Speaker 3: You got to you gotta just call this.
- 21:34Speaker 4: There's something about this woman that if she sees a dog,
- 21:36Speaker 4: she's got to help. And so she gets the dog
- 21:41Speaker 4: into her front seat of her car. She had to
- 21:43Speaker 4: pick it up, and she put it on the front
- 21:46Speaker 4: seat of the car and immediately calls her vet and
- 21:50Speaker 4: that's a veterinarian clinic in Barry In Springs called two
- 21:54Speaker 4: by two Animal Hospital. What's not open yet, And she
- 21:58Speaker 4: calls the after hours emergency number. They know her because
- 22:02Speaker 4: she brings in, you know, rescue dogs for shots or checkups,
- 22:08Speaker 4: and they tell her to head there. It'll be open
- 22:12Speaker 4: if she gets there before eight o'clock, there'll be people
- 22:15Speaker 4: there waiting for And so when she calls me and
- 22:21Speaker 4: tells me this, she is I might be missing the timeline.
- 22:27Speaker 4: She's telling me that she's already been to the clinic.
- 22:30Speaker 4: She's on her way to work. Now the dog is
- 22:32Speaker 4: at the clinic, and now I've got about a fifteen
- 22:36Speaker 4: mile drive to bury In Springs, and I am still
- 22:39Speaker 4: just the only thing I can think of is that
- 22:43Speaker 4: I got this dog four years ago from the same
- 22:46Speaker 4: town that I stay in in North Dakota, and have
- 22:50Speaker 4: to if the dog isn't already dead, then I'm going
- 22:53Speaker 4: to have to, you know, tell the veterinarian to euthanize it.
- 22:56Speaker 4: And I know this sounds really bizarre, but maybe dog
- 23:00Speaker 4: owners and dog lovers and hunters would understand. My intention
- 23:03Speaker 4: was not to turn around and go home. My intention
- 23:06Speaker 4: was to put a bag of ice on him in
- 23:08Speaker 4: the kennel and bury him as soon as I got
- 23:11Speaker 4: to North Dakota. Now that's kind of weird, but that's
- 23:14Speaker 4: where my head was.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Like burying back where he came from.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Arion, back where he came from on the prairie.
- 23:19Speaker 4: And and uh so I'm in traffic and I'm trying
- 23:23Speaker 4: to get there, and it's a fifteen minute drive.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Now I get there and there's a woman on the
- 23:31Speaker 3: phone at the reception desk, and I want to.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Hold up real quick.
- 23:35Speaker 1: This all is happening so fast that when you get
- 23:38Speaker 1: the call from Bill, right, you're how many miles from
- 23:45Speaker 1: where she?
- 23:46Speaker 3: Like?
- 23:47Speaker 1: This happened so fast, you're only ten miles down the highway, right.
- 23:50Speaker 4: She said, this happened just north of Sawyer, Michigan. And Sawyer,
- 23:55Speaker 4: Michigan is Exit twelve.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yeap.
- 23:58Speaker 4: So the exit she got off I had to turn
- 24:00Speaker 4: around was exit twelve. So this happened somewhere, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 4: north of you know, thirteen miles north of dandel Line,
- 24:07Speaker 4: fourteen miles north something like that. So when I get
- 24:10Speaker 4: the call from Bill, I'm two miles from Indiana. So
- 24:15Speaker 4: she got that dog in the car, called the vet
- 24:19Speaker 4: got that done, and then called Bill in a space
- 24:21Speaker 4: of about ten minutes, yep.
- 24:24Speaker 3: So when I'm on my way.
- 24:26Speaker 4: To the vetter ready, she's the dog already is at
- 24:29Speaker 4: the vet and.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I'm want to save this part for later.
- 24:35Speaker 4: So I just get to the vet clinic and the
- 24:38Speaker 4: receptionist is on the phone and I'm trying not to
- 24:40Speaker 4: be like that guy, and I'm just like, okay, whatever
- 24:44Speaker 4: it is, it is, so whoever's on the phone's got
- 24:47Speaker 4: something important going on too, And finally she hangs up
- 24:50Speaker 4: and says, going to help you, and I said, yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 4: I'm the guy that had the dog hit on the
- 24:53Speaker 4: interstate today, and she goes, oh, come with me, and
- 24:56Speaker 4: she brings me over to this waiting room five and
- 24:59Speaker 4: I said, and then a vet tech walks in with her,
- 25:03Speaker 4: and I said, could I just go see the dog
- 25:05Speaker 4: instead of going here? And she says, no, We'll bring
- 25:07Speaker 4: the dog in to you, and that I sit down,
- 25:10Speaker 4: and I'm like, that doesn't make any sense. I mean,
- 25:13Speaker 4: what are you going to bring the dog to me
- 25:14Speaker 4: on a on a gurney or you know, in a body.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Steve as God as my witness, she walked that dog
- 25:24Speaker 4: in on a leash and the dog's tail was wagon.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I sent you pictures. I don't know if it's phil
- 25:32Speaker 3: gonna be able to put.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna have them in post round.
- 25:35Speaker 1: But if you give me ten seconds, I can pull
- 25:37Speaker 1: them up right now. Just give me give me a
- 25:38Speaker 1: sec here.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll have up in a minute.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Then you can extra adam, if you're in post, if
- 25:44Speaker 1: you're post post. How am I trying to explain this film? No,
- 25:48Speaker 1: not that picture, Phil, I know I'm moving it.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:54Speaker 4: That is what my dog looked like when I walked
- 25:58Speaker 4: into the vet and he came up to me. And
- 26:03Speaker 4: you know, it's it's not even a cut. It's actually
- 26:07Speaker 4: like an abrasion across his middle of his brow, above
- 26:13Speaker 4: his eye and on the left side of his eye.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And yeah, it looks like if you took an iron. Yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 1: it's like a branding iron and laid it across his forehead.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Yep. And I can't picture what did that. I can't
- 26:28Speaker 3: picture what did that.
- 26:29Speaker 4: And the weirdest part of it is like I'm still
- 26:33Speaker 4: looking at this dog and I'm crying because he's his
- 26:36Speaker 4: tail is waggoned. He's right between him sitting down, he's
- 26:39Speaker 4: right between my legs. And I asked the vetec, I
- 26:42Speaker 4: said how, and she says, I have no idea.
- 26:47Speaker 3: I said, but it it got out of my truck.
- 26:51Speaker 4: On the interstate and she said, I know, but I said, well,
- 26:57Speaker 4: how can this be? And she says, we don't know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: we don't know, and this this part is almost comical.
- 27:05Speaker 4: She said, we gave him a full exam, and if
- 27:07Speaker 4: anybody's ever had their dog in an exam when there's
- 27:10Speaker 4: a limb or a problem, or or they've been hit
- 27:12Speaker 4: or you know, fell off of something, they do a
- 27:14Speaker 4: real extensive leg pull, like they pull the front leg
- 27:17Speaker 4: and they do a complete range of motion on all
- 27:20Speaker 4: four legs. And apparently he didn't have any reaction to that.
- 27:27Speaker 4: And so I'm just beside myself. I'm sitting there with
- 27:31Speaker 4: tears in my eyes, pet in him. And she said,
- 27:35Speaker 4: the only thing we found that we'd like to address
- 27:38Speaker 4: right now.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Is he has an ear infection. I said, isn't that
- 27:47Speaker 3: the least of my problems?
- 27:49Speaker 4: She said, she said, from what we can tell, that's
- 27:52Speaker 4: his only problem. And I'm just I don't even I felt.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I kept feeling like I was in a dream and
- 28:04Speaker 4: that I'm gonna wake up, and I'm like, I'm two
- 28:07Speaker 4: hours late for getting on the road when I wanted to,
- 28:10Speaker 4: because it this can't happen, Steve.
- 28:14Speaker 1: No, It's got to spill out of a moving truck
- 28:16Speaker 1: at seventy two miles an hour around a highway, get
- 28:20Speaker 1: rolled under another truck and know and you got.
- 28:23Speaker 2: All you got is a ear infection.
- 28:26Speaker 4: An ear infection, and a curling iron burn. It's it's
- 28:34Speaker 4: it's not. I have been through this one hundred times.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Maybe. I mean, you're good at thinking about things. The
- 28:43Speaker 3: only thing you ever have a semi go by is
- 28:45Speaker 3: so close it almost moves your vehicle.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Oh yeah, dude, that's why I can't.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I don't understand those people that like to ride that
- 28:51Speaker 1: like to do those bike rides down the long, the
- 28:53Speaker 1: busy roads. Yeah, and every truck just rocks their world,
- 28:59Speaker 1: man like with that wind.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, hate that feeling.
- 29:02Speaker 3: So I have to assume that I was in front
- 29:06Speaker 3: of the semi or somewhere.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Obviously I was in front of the semi, but I
- 29:11Speaker 4: don't know how far, whether it was a mile or yep,
- 29:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Well, not a mile, Well, I don't know.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That's why we need to find right, someone in America
- 29:22Speaker 1: was dry. They're like someone in America's been telling their friends,
- 29:26Speaker 1: He'll never guess what. I watched a dog come flying
- 29:30Speaker 1: out of a truck and they think the dog's dead.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Right right?
- 29:35Speaker 4: And I even yesterday I called the non emergency number
- 29:39Speaker 4: for that county and I gave her the time and
- 29:42Speaker 4: date and she got She got back with me in
- 29:44Speaker 4: about ten minutes and she had no nine to one
- 29:47Speaker 4: one call.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Nobody can corded that dog coming out of the window.
- 29:51Speaker 1: But yeah, you think, like just for I mean, I'm
- 29:54Speaker 1: gonna say it, the real obvious for people. If you
- 29:57Speaker 1: fall from a seventy two mile an hour pick up,
- 30:00Speaker 1: when you hit the ground, you're.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Going seventy two miles an hour exactly.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Yeah, just time?
- 30:05Speaker 2: Does it like denudes it?
- 30:07Speaker 1: Like denudes flesh?
- 30:09Speaker 2: Is that a word? I mean, it's a word, But
- 30:11Speaker 2: does that apply.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I don't know, but I know what you're trying to say,
- 30:16Speaker 3: removes it? It would.
- 30:19Speaker 4: And so I'm still in a vet and I'm still
- 30:23Speaker 4: trying to get my wrap my arms around this, and
- 30:28Speaker 4: the vet comes out to me now and I asked
- 30:30Speaker 4: her the same question, how is this possible? And she says,
- 30:33Speaker 4: I don't know, but the name of the vet clinic
- 30:37Speaker 4: is two by two is a reference in the on
- 30:39Speaker 4: their logo as an arc And she just kind of
- 30:45Speaker 4: she says, I can't tell you, and I'm like this, this.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Is I mean, it's a it's a miracle.
- 30:53Speaker 4: He I'll get him out in a minute, and I'll
- 30:56Speaker 4: move my camera down to a chair. But all these
- 31:01Speaker 4: other things are in my head and I'm probably messing
- 31:03Speaker 4: this up because I'm kind of like reliving it.
- 31:06Speaker 3: So the vet says, i'd.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Like to take some more X rays and X rays
- 31:12Speaker 4: can also see if there's blood around organs.
- 31:14Speaker 3: And I don't know.
- 31:15Speaker 4: I think the X ray is head first because I
- 31:17Speaker 4: got charged for two X rays the first.
- 31:21Speaker 3: View in an additional view.
- 31:23Speaker 4: I've got the report here from two by two, so
- 31:29Speaker 4: I said, yes, please do it. And then she comes
- 31:31Speaker 4: back and she says, no broken ribs, nothing in the legs.
- 31:36Speaker 4: So I'm assuming the first was the head X ray
- 31:38Speaker 4: because of the head damage. No fracture in the skull,
- 31:45Speaker 4: no broken bones, no bleeding on the organs. Now, to
- 31:49Speaker 4: go back to that first dog that I brought to
- 31:51Speaker 4: a clinic by Richmond on X rays because they didn't
- 31:55Speaker 4: do an MRI. On X rays, they showed me the
- 31:57Speaker 4: blood around the heart, the blood around the liver, the
- 32:00Speaker 4: it obscures the X ray. Yeah, they can tell when
- 32:05Speaker 4: there's fluid inside of a dog's body. There's nothing inside
- 32:10Speaker 4: this dog's body, Steve. And so I I'm sitting there
- 32:16Speaker 4: with them, and they give me.
- 32:18Speaker 3: They give me they give me.
- 32:19Speaker 4: The ear drops, and they give me the instructions for
- 32:22Speaker 4: the ear drops, and they give me a They give
- 32:26Speaker 4: me carprofen for pain, and they give me tras a
- 32:30Speaker 4: dome for anxiety in case he gets anxious or starts
- 32:35Speaker 4: walking around or gets confused.
- 32:37Speaker 3: That's that's kind of like a not a pain killer,
- 32:41Speaker 3: something to calm.
- 32:42Speaker 2: A dog down, like a down, understand.
- 32:45Speaker 4: And I never ended up giving him any tradazone tres dome.
- 32:50Speaker 4: I did give him by prescription. The carprofen. I gave
- 32:55Speaker 4: him that for half a pill once twice a day.
- 32:59Speaker 4: I did that for about three days for pain. Because
- 33:02Speaker 4: the other analogy, she said, well, I know he appears
- 33:05Speaker 4: fine right now, but he's probably going to be like
- 33:08Speaker 4: a person falling off a ladder, getting back on the ladder,
- 33:11Speaker 4: and then getting out of bed in the morning and
- 33:13Speaker 4: be completely stiff, like he got hit by a truck.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 33:17Speaker 4: But so one of the other weird parts about this
- 33:21Speaker 4: story is had this not happened, and had this lady
- 33:25Speaker 4: Kristen not been on that road that day. There's two
- 33:28Speaker 4: other scenarios obviously, either God himself did this or there's
- 33:35Speaker 4: some I don't care God did it, somebody somebody did it.
- 33:40Speaker 4: But my mechanical thought was, this dog got caught up
- 33:45Speaker 4: in the suction of the semi truck and maybe flattened
- 33:51Speaker 4: out and spun. And could a vehicle straddle a dog
- 33:56Speaker 4: without hitting it?
- 33:57Speaker 3: I guess if the dog was flat on its side
- 34:01Speaker 3: and had.
- 34:01Speaker 1: To be flat, because your dog sixty five pounds, man,
- 34:03Speaker 1: some bitch is way higher than the wheel hub.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he would have to be flat with.
- 34:08Speaker 1: His start way higher than the transfer cases and all
- 34:11Speaker 1: that stuff.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 34:12Speaker 4: The rear end differential or a shock mount or the muffler,
- 34:17Speaker 4: you know, any of these things would have sliced them
- 34:20Speaker 4: open or killed them.
- 34:23Speaker 3: And I'll show them to you a little bit.
- 34:26Speaker 4: There is not a mark on his body except a
- 34:29Speaker 4: little a little patch about the size of a quarter
- 34:32Speaker 4: on his rear elbow. So this dog slid on the
- 34:36Speaker 4: highway vacuumed up by a truck, I don't know. So
- 34:40Speaker 4: that's one of the things we're going to see. If
- 34:43Speaker 4: anybody was on I ninety four. It was June eighteenth,
- 34:47Speaker 4: a Thursday, southbound on nine ninety four. Roughly, I'm gonna
- 34:53Speaker 4: say anywhere from seven fifteen to seven point thirty in
- 34:56Speaker 4: the morning, if you saw a dog on the road,
- 35:00Speaker 4: or if you saw or if you were the person
- 35:02Speaker 4: that said I think I just ran over a deer,
- 35:04Speaker 4: but I didn't feel anything.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I don't know. Y, Hey, Ronnie, jump, Phil's gonna put
- 35:09Speaker 1: those pictures.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Jump to like, yeah, jump to it real quick.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Jump to how like how the dog could have gotten
- 35:18Speaker 1: out right because he's in a top or in a
- 35:20Speaker 1: dog box.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Okay, if Phil can go to the picture on the inside.
- 35:24Speaker 2: We got the exterior right now, right there it is.
- 35:29Speaker 4: That's the inside of the truck. Tailgate is up, the
- 35:32Speaker 4: hatches up right now, that that dog kennel is.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I don't think it's Ronnie's truck because there'd be empty
- 35:38Speaker 1: shell casings and empty beer cans everywhere.
- 35:41Speaker 3: They're they're they're not in the pictures, trust me.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Mixed mixed gauges, you're right, many brands, many gauges and brands,
- 35:54Speaker 1: but just one kind of beer can.
- 35:59Speaker 3: So that as a fact, Steve's traveling with me. I
- 36:01Speaker 3: put them all in the door pocket to the truck
- 36:04Speaker 3: and it drives them crazy.
- 36:07Speaker 4: But I reenacted this this morning to because I didn't
- 36:10Speaker 4: take a picture when it happened. This is how the
- 36:13Speaker 4: kennel's mounted up there PERMANENTLYEP.
- 36:16Speaker 1: So he got out of the air and started roaming
- 36:19Speaker 1: around the truck and on.
- 36:20Speaker 3: The in the front of the other kennel, there's about
- 36:23Speaker 3: four or you know, eight square feet of floor. That
- 36:27Speaker 3: cooler that you see was on that shelf.
- 36:29Speaker 4: That shelf is thirteen inches wide and that window is
- 36:34Speaker 4: a glass window with a screen, and that morning I
- 36:38Speaker 4: slid that window open. It wasn't going to be hot,
- 36:41Speaker 4: but it gets hot. Everything's been hot lately, so I
- 36:43Speaker 4: wanted full ventilation for the dogs, YEP, and so that
- 36:48Speaker 4: that glass window was opened. By design, the screen was
- 36:52Speaker 4: in place, but it's just a little pop in screen.
- 36:57Speaker 4: When I opened the tailgate, when I pulled over quick,
- 37:01Speaker 4: that's what I saw. I saw that cooler sitting there,
- 37:04Speaker 4: and there's another toolbox there that had my my dog
- 37:07Speaker 4: first aid kit that was all up on that shelf.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I'm surmising that because I didn't double check that that latch,
- 37:17Speaker 4: probably he could have been out all the way from
- 37:19Speaker 4: twin lake, just sitting on the bottom, you know, kind
- 37:22Speaker 4: of antsy, like, you know, why am why am I?
- 37:25Speaker 3: Why am I? Why aren't they in a kennel?
- 37:28Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, it's roaming around back there.
- 37:31Speaker 4: He's roaming around the other two dogs below are probably like, hey,
- 37:33Speaker 4: how'd you get out?
- 37:34Speaker 3: You know? You know?
- 37:37Speaker 1: And the son of a bitch, how'd.
- 37:39Speaker 3: You do that? Lets us out on a trip?
- 37:43Speaker 4: And I'm surmising that when I changed lanes or got
- 37:47Speaker 4: back on the highway, that that cooler and that toolbox
- 37:51Speaker 4: fell onto the space where he was.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and he jumped back up onto that.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Shelf, but the door wasn't open, and possibly he just
- 38:02Speaker 4: dogs will lean or sit or try to prop themselves
- 38:05Speaker 4: up on something to sit down. And I surmise that
- 38:08Speaker 4: he leaned on that screen and the screen gave out.
- 38:13Speaker 4: And that other picture again, I want people to know
- 38:16Speaker 4: I did this this morning, because I didn't do it
- 38:19Speaker 4: on the highway.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Ye that is that is exactly how that screen looked.
- 38:23Speaker 4: When I opened the tailgate and then looked at the screen,
- 38:26Speaker 4: and my heart felt down to my knees in my feet,
- 38:31Speaker 4: and all I could think about was this.
- 38:34Speaker 3: You know, you can you picture it? You know the
- 38:38Speaker 3: worst thoughts of anything. Just you've seen roadkills, deer kills, dogs.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Look like you know what, Ronnie? What Ronnie like in
- 38:47Speaker 1: this to me? He says his daughter. This whole thing,
- 38:51Speaker 1: he says, his daughter felt like, uh, you know what
- 38:55Speaker 1: a wonderful It's a wonderful life. When Jimmy Stewart's there
- 38:59Speaker 1: fixing to jump off that jump off the bridge.
- 39:04Speaker 3: And they send Clarence and that Clarence heads.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Down there, Ronnie thinks it was Clarence.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Clarence like creature guided his dog to the ground and
- 39:16Speaker 1: guided his dog to that woman's hands.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Well, if you can explain how a dog doesn't get
- 39:22Speaker 4: road rash at seventy two miles an hour, I'll take
- 39:26Speaker 4: another explanation.
- 39:28Speaker 1: You're open for suggestions.
- 39:31Speaker 3: I'm wide open, Steve. I'm hoping that three people calling
- 39:36Speaker 3: and says, no, it happened to me too.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's all the time, and it's incredible.
- 39:47Speaker 3: It so.
- 39:48Speaker 4: And then there's two other scenarios that could have played out,
- 39:51Speaker 4: which would have been in this case, now that he's alive, that.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Could have been worse.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Because these are all dogs that are you to traveling.
- 40:01Speaker 4: I won't stop and let the dogs out or check
- 40:03Speaker 4: on him until I need to tank a gas. From Michigan,
- 40:06Speaker 4: I would get all the way to Madison, Wisconsin. I
- 40:09Speaker 4: do this route a lot, and somewhere around Madison, I
- 40:12Speaker 4: would have stopped, fueled up and taken all the dogs out,
- 40:18Speaker 4: and I would have opened that kennel.
- 40:19Speaker 3: I would have opened that door, and I would have
- 40:23Speaker 3: had six hours.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yeah, of what the hell?
- 40:27Speaker 3: What the hell?
- 40:28Speaker 4: I don't even know if I could have drove back.
- 40:30Speaker 4: The other scenario is I could have looked in my
- 40:35Speaker 4: side view mirror to change lanes. I could have witnessed
- 40:39Speaker 4: him fallout, and I probably would have crashed. I mean,
- 40:44Speaker 4: what would you do if you saw your dog.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Fall out of your car on a highway while you
- 40:48Speaker 3: were driving. I don't think you could.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I'd think to myself, Man, my kids are gonna be
- 40:53Speaker 1: worked up about this.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Yeah, well, and I thought about that too, about this
- 41:00Speaker 4: is the truth. I thought about how I'm not a
- 41:03Speaker 4: guy who posts. You know, I've looked out of all
- 41:06Speaker 4: those dogs I've had, and those are dogs that I've
- 41:09Speaker 4: kept for years at a time, not dogs that I've
- 41:12Speaker 4: had for a year and didn't work out, or or
- 41:14Speaker 4: gave to somebody who needed a dog, and I had
- 41:16Speaker 4: extra pupps dogs that I've had and hunted. I've never
- 41:21Speaker 4: put a post up on Facebook, and I don't say
- 41:24Speaker 4: anything to people do because they're good friends of mine
- 41:25Speaker 4: to do it. I never post anything about one of
- 41:28Speaker 4: my dogs dying. People find out it either through my
- 41:30Speaker 4: podcast or when I talked to him at peasant Fest,
- 41:34Speaker 4: you know, like, Hey, how's Bravo and I saw he
- 41:37Speaker 4: passed away last year. I I just that's that's just
- 41:41Speaker 4: something that's just part of me, and it's something you
- 41:43Speaker 4: sign up for when you when you get a dog,
- 41:46Speaker 4: and you that's your that's.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Your thing, and that's how I handle it.
- 41:51Speaker 4: So I fully when I was driving to that vet,
- 41:55Speaker 4: I had I had no intention on telling anybody about
- 41:59Speaker 4: this except up my friends on the hunting trip and
- 42:02Speaker 4: the people I know there that I got the dog from, actually,
- 42:05Speaker 4: and I would have probably told my listeners at.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Some point or something. I don't know. I don't know
- 42:12Speaker 3: how I would have handled it.
- 42:13Speaker 2: But Ronnie's referring to the Hunting Dog podcast, Yes.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Which thanks to you well, we started on the same
- 42:23Speaker 3: day in January twenty fifteen. We did.
- 42:27Speaker 4: We did that podcast at the kitchen table in Texas.
- 42:30Speaker 4: And when I said, you mean you can do this
- 42:33Speaker 4: in the kitchen, I went home.
- 42:36Speaker 3: I went home and bought recording equipment.
- 42:39Speaker 1: And heay, I just got you know what's funny, man,
- 42:41Speaker 1: I just got to I drew a crane tag here
- 42:43Speaker 1: and I just got my second crane yesterday morning. You
- 42:45Speaker 1: allowed two cranes when you draw a crain tag here.
- 42:48Speaker 3: We still don't have it in Michigan, Steve, that's a.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Great one of the great travesties. We'll get we'll get
- 42:54Speaker 1: it sorted out.
- 42:57Speaker 3: So yeah, I started that just to to stories about
- 43:00Speaker 3: hunting trips and dogs and blah blah blah. And it's turning.
- 43:03Speaker 4: I'm still doing it to this day. But I'll get
- 43:07Speaker 4: I'm gonna put this camera down. Oh is there a no,
- 43:10Speaker 4: that's the only two pictures that are important.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Let's see the dog. Yeah, let's see the dog, and
- 43:15Speaker 1: we'll say goodbye. We'll reissue a call for anyone that
- 43:18Speaker 1: can come in and find if you heard a story
- 43:22Speaker 1: where like you heard a story from someone that told
- 43:24Speaker 1: a story about watching a dog come out of a truck,
- 43:27Speaker 1: or someone thinks they hit and kill the dog and
- 43:29Speaker 1: then they come home and they're all sad about hitting
- 43:31Speaker 1: and killing the dog anything like that.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Send them our way or send him around his way.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Okay, can you see him.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Dog Lazarus. It's the Lazarus dog. His other dogs are
- 44:06Speaker 1: pissed now.
- 44:07Speaker 3: Yeah, they're all off. So his uh, his scar is
- 44:13Speaker 3: just above gone. He's starting to grow hair over his eyebrow.
- 44:16Speaker 2: That's a good look at the dog man that.
- 44:19Speaker 3: There is not a mark on his didn't break a nail,
- 44:23Speaker 3: didn't chip a tooth.
- 44:25Speaker 2: He's huh and his person.
- 44:30Speaker 4: And four days later, I, you know, I certainly wanted
- 44:34Speaker 4: to give him a break, and I fully expected, Honestly,
- 44:38Speaker 4: I just assumed there'd be some damage to his head
- 44:40Speaker 4: and if he would have, he was curled up in
- 44:43Speaker 4: front of my seat for you know, nineteen hours of
- 44:47Speaker 4: more driving. Let them out and I slept in a
- 44:50Speaker 4: couple of rest areas, but for a nap. I didn't
- 44:53Speaker 4: do the ice trick this time, Steve, but you're right,
- 44:55Speaker 4: that is a trick of mine.
- 44:59Speaker 3: And I gave him a few days.
- 45:00Speaker 4: But when I was at the vet and they gave
- 45:04Speaker 4: me a leash, I walked into my truck and he
- 45:07Speaker 4: jumped up into the front seat.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Of my truck.
- 45:09Speaker 2: He's done at the bag.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Well, I didn't want to get PTSD. I mean, how
- 45:17Speaker 3: would you like to be put back in that kettle.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Man?
- 45:21Speaker 4: How you doing this twice? I've been down this road
- 45:25Speaker 4: and honestly, uh so during the week that's he he
- 45:32Speaker 4: went right back into that truck and right back in.
- 45:34Speaker 4: You know, I triple checked the latches and I'm actually
- 45:37Speaker 4: gonna install on the lower kennels. I'm going to install
- 45:41Speaker 4: some extra secondary hatch because this kennel has secondary latches.
- 45:46Speaker 4: And I want everybody who's saying under their breath, it's
- 45:49Speaker 4: your fault, Ronnie, they're one hundred percent right. I should
- 45:52Speaker 4: have double checked that door and hit the appropriate extra latch,
- 45:56Speaker 4: and I wouldn't be on this store the show today
- 45:59Speaker 4: with you.
- 46:01Speaker 3: But it's gonna be one of the great all time
- 46:02Speaker 3: stories of a dog living.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Through something that it's impossible, not a other than those
- 46:10Speaker 4: those cuts on or those abrasions on his forehead.
- 46:14Speaker 3: I don't know, if you didn't know me, Steve, would
- 46:17Speaker 3: you believe this story?
- 46:20Speaker 1: No, I would say if I didn't know you, I'd say,
- 46:22Speaker 1: I think the dog got out somewhere else, like at
- 46:26Speaker 1: the rest stop.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Or I don't know what telling he said and something
- 46:29Speaker 4: look like that, and then the story was like no,
- 46:32Speaker 4: I saw it, And then somebody else told the story,
- 46:34Speaker 4: and some pretty soon the story is no, I saw
- 46:37Speaker 4: the dog jump out of a truck.
- 46:38Speaker 1: No, I'll tell people Ronnie's Ronnie is quicker to tell
- 46:41Speaker 1: a story about himself looking bad. He's about himself look good.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Matter of fact, Ronnie don't tell stories where Ronnie looks good.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Ronnie only tells stories when Ronnie looks like an ass.
- 46:54Speaker 3: You said that, Steve on the episode that we did
- 47:00Speaker 3: on the Mountain Grouse. You said, he's he's the most
- 47:04Speaker 3: self deprecating buddy.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I know, yeah, and that narration, but yeah, he only
- 47:09Speaker 1: likes stories where he looks like an idiots.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Well, they're funnier, it's funnier.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Well listen, man, I'm glad the dog's live. I'm glad
- 47:19Speaker 1: you're live and happy, Steve.
- 47:22Speaker 3: I want to do I want to in case I
- 47:24Speaker 3: missed anything. I want to thank Kristin Klausen.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Yep, that's the dog Savior.
- 47:29Speaker 3: That's the dog Savior.
- 47:30Speaker 4: She volunteers with Animal Aid of Southwest Michigan, and the
- 47:35Speaker 4: clinic was two by two Animal clinic in barry In Springs, and.
- 47:40Speaker 3: I don't know. Oh I guess, uh yeah, no kidding.
- 47:45Speaker 4: One fact I forgot to tell you is when she
- 47:48Speaker 4: pulled up to the vet clinic, they were aware that
- 47:50Speaker 4: she was coming, and they rolled a gurney out to
- 47:52Speaker 4: her car. She opened the door and walked the dog
- 47:56Speaker 4: out onto the sidewalk. So I've been told to play
- 48:03Speaker 4: the lottery. I've been told to start going back to church.
- 48:05Speaker 4: I've been told to quit drinking, and I've been told
- 48:08Speaker 4: to quit smoking. I haven't done any of those things yet.
- 48:16Speaker 2: But yeah, you're pretty good the way you are. Man.
- 48:19Speaker 2: We'll keep you the way you are, all right.
- 48:22Speaker 3: So yeah, I ninety four June or September eighteenth, somewhere
- 48:28Speaker 3: around seven point fifteen in the morning, southbound YE ninety four,
- 48:34Speaker 3: about maybe thirteen fourteen miles north of the Indiana Line.

- 48:41Speaker 1: meat Eater at the Metater podcast subject line Ronnie's Dog.

- 48:52Speaker 1: that dog.
