- 0:00Speaker 1: You just heard the news. Now you'll find out what
- 0:03Speaker 1: it all means.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's Mark Simone on 710WOR.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey, well it's a beautiful day today. Wednesday, beautiful. Tomorrow, rain.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Got a lot to get to today. A lot of
- 0:18Speaker 1: Dolly Parton talk. A look back and a lot of memories.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We'll get to that and we'll get to last night.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Big victory for Republicans for what they call MAGA. Big victory.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We'll get to Bruce Blakeman and Kathy Hochul. Hochul's got
- 0:34Speaker 1: some problems, some big problems, and it's only getting worse
- 0:36Speaker 1: for her. We'll get to all of that. We'll get
- 0:40Speaker 1: to Hillary Clinton. I think she's running in 2028. She
- 0:44Speaker 1: made some very surprising comments. Anyway, we'll get to all
- 0:48Speaker 1: of that. Coming up, we'll get to the battle with
- 0:51Speaker 1: Canada and a whole lot more. Dolly Parton in a second.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Last night, Darlene Graham, sister of Lindsey Graham, won And
- 1:00Speaker 1: one big, it was supposed to be really tight. It
- 1:02Speaker 1: wasn't that tight. President Trump was down there campaigning for her.
- 1:08Speaker 1: He put in almost a million dollars into her campaign.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He's got a $ 400 million war chest he can use
- 1:15Speaker 1: in the midterms. But one thing about these primary races,
- 1:20Speaker 1: when President Trump goes down there or the RNC or
- 1:24Speaker 1: the MAGA donut, when they go down there, And it's
- 1:27Speaker 1: a good trial test run for whatever they want to
- 1:30Speaker 1: do in the midterms. So you've got to be on
- 1:33Speaker 1: your game for the midterm elections. And they're testing stuff out.
- 1:36Speaker 1: They're road testing it in these primary races. And they
- 1:40Speaker 1: sent an operation down there to work phone banks to,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you know, what they call the ground game for Darlene Graham.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And it worked. So then they go over it. They
- 1:49Speaker 1: see exactly what worked, what didn't, what messages worked, what
- 1:52Speaker 1: ads worked, what texts worked, you know, fine-tuning that ground game.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So more and more of these races, and then they're
- 2:00Speaker 1: ready to go for the midterms. Big victory last night.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Darlene Graham's sister, Lindsey Graham, wins.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Mr.
- 2:06Speaker 4: President, Lindsey truly loved you and viewed you as one
- 2:10Speaker 4: of his closest friends. I appreciate that bond and appreciate
- 2:14Speaker 4: all that you've done for our country. Our victory would
- 2:18Speaker 4: not have been possible without you.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so now she had that big gaffe in the debate.
- 2:25Speaker 1: where she was asked about Taiwan, and she said, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I don't know anything about foreign policy. I just don't know.
- 2:31Speaker 1: It sounded terrible, but she handled it so well in
- 2:36Speaker 1: the days afterwards, saying, I'm not a professional politician. I'm
- 2:40Speaker 1: a real, honest person, and that registered with a lot
- 2:43Speaker 1: of people. And she's running against Norman, who's a real
- 2:48Speaker 1: professional career politician, and Ralph Norman, been there forever, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: she kept using this I've done more in 20 days
- 2:56Speaker 1: than he's done in 20 years. And that kind of
- 2:58Speaker 1: stuff registers. People don't like professional politicians. So it was
- 3:02Speaker 1: a great victory for her.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Thank you, Lindsay, for your service to South Carolina and
- 3:07Speaker 4: to this country. It's just not the same without you here.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And of course, it was a lot of sentiment for
- 3:14Speaker 1: Lindsey Graham. Now, this Norman, Ralph Norman, never trust a
- 3:19Speaker 1: guy with two first names. That's an important rule in life.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Ralph Norman, again, Never trust a guy with two first names. Now,
- 3:28Speaker 1: he didn't know what hit him, and he's got to
- 3:30Speaker 1: figure out how to very quickly get on that Trump bandwagon.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And he can have a pretty good relationship with Trump,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but he's got to get back in there. But, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: the president got involved. He has that right.
- 3:41Speaker 5: That's his prerogative. As I told, I never, well, y'all,
- 3:48Speaker 5: his policies are good. I never understood why he got
- 3:51Speaker 5: in this race to beat Trump. You know, but it
- 3:56Speaker 5: is what.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It is, and I'll accept it. I don't know the guy,
- 4:00Speaker 1: but he sounds a little wormy to me. Well, you
- 4:03Speaker 1: know that, President. Sounds like that Southern Sheriff kind of
- 4:07Speaker 1: guy you don't trust.
- 4:08Speaker 5: We did this for service, and I hate it for
- 4:10Speaker 5: the state.
- 4:11Speaker 4: But the public, South Carolina, made the decision.
- 4:17Speaker 2: We had $ 8 million spent against us.
- 4:20Speaker 5: We couldn't come up with that much money.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Well. Now, see, the other problem Norman had, he was
- 4:24Speaker 1: being backed by Nikki Haley, who everybody hates. Nobody can
- 4:27Speaker 1: stand Nikki Haley. Big enemy of President Trump. So the
- 4:31Speaker 1: Nikki Haley backing didn't help. The sincere, genuine, warm sort
- 4:36Speaker 1: of darling grandma was great. So it was a great
- 4:39Speaker 1: victory last night for President Trump. So Dolly Parton, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: guess we got the word about 2 o'clock, 2.15. It
- 4:50Speaker 1: was just shocking. She had power. said she had some
- 4:54Speaker 1: medical troubles we didn't realize it was cancer and that
- 4:56Speaker 1: it was very serious but nobody thought she'd pass away
- 4:59Speaker 1: that fast and even her own family said that they
- 5:01Speaker 1: were just weren't expecting this they're caught off guard you
- 5:05Speaker 1: know when i uh this is kind of gruesome but
- 5:07Speaker 1: when i know somebody's gonna die i start looking because
- 5:10Speaker 1: i have a million interviews with everybody i start looking
- 5:13Speaker 1: for the interview with them and if somebody uh it's
- 5:17Speaker 1: their 100th birthday you know i start going let me
- 5:19Speaker 1: get this interview ready just in case because you got
- 5:21Speaker 1: to dig through thousands of recordings and find it. So
- 5:27Speaker 1: it never, in a million years, would have occurred to me,
- 5:29Speaker 1: let's go find the Dolly Parton interviews. It never, I
- 5:32Speaker 1: just never thought she would pass away. But she had her,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I think it was her nephew. This guy was great.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And she apparently had prepared for this. She told the
- 5:41Speaker 1: family exactly what she wanted said, what kind of funeral
- 5:45Speaker 1: she wanted. And the nephew, he was just great. Hey, everyone.
- 5:50Speaker 2: My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, And
- 5:53Speaker 2: I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the
- 5:57Speaker 2: passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis,
- 6:01Speaker 2: aunt granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.
- 6:05Speaker 2: This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago,
- 6:08Speaker 2: before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As
- 6:11Speaker 2: her head of security for more than two decades, a
- 6:14Speaker 2: role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined
- 6:16Speaker 2: the heaviness of this moment, but haven't truly felt it
- 6:19Speaker 2: until now.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Yeah, this guy just sounded so wonderful, like her, just warm,
- 6:24Speaker 1: absolutely genuine, sincere. You know, one thing about Dolly Parton,
- 6:27Speaker 1: it was a great success story, but it was a
- 6:29Speaker 1: real American story. Growing up in a one-room cabin and
- 6:34Speaker 1: becoming the biggest star possible, but the nephew was great.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Dolly has lived in the light and is in the
- 6:41Speaker 2: arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents, and
- 6:44Speaker 2: countless others who have watched her and longed for her
- 6:47Speaker 2: to meet them in the heavens. She has always been
- 6:50Speaker 2: on your television, your record player, your CD, and on
- 6:53Speaker 2: your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family
- 6:56Speaker 2: whether you liked it or not. Our family and the
- 6:59Speaker 2: team she has entrusted with her legacy will work diligently
- 7:02Speaker 2: to ensure her spirit will live with us forever. Dolly
- 7:05Speaker 2: called me and said she wants to rest in a
- 7:07Speaker 2: beautiful bed of plush cotton because after a life wearing
- 7:10Speaker 2: heavy rhinestones, she finally deserves to be comfortable and have
- 7:13Speaker 2: some rest.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that's... That's something. She would dress normally when no
- 7:20Speaker 1: one was going to see her. But it was television.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It was an appearance. It was out in public. She
- 7:25Speaker 1: wore all that rhinestone. It was just constant rhinestone. And
- 7:29Speaker 1: she had these things that were, I don't even know
- 7:31Speaker 1: how you put them on. I mean, they were the
- 7:32Speaker 1: most complicated with this going this way and that way
- 7:35Speaker 1: and rhinestones and this and that. You know, I was
- 7:39Speaker 1: at Fox. There's a nice sound technician that puts the
- 7:42Speaker 1: microphone on you. Before you go on the air, she
- 7:45Speaker 1: comes and sticks her hand in your jacket and puts
- 7:48Speaker 1: the backpack on your belt. And she sticks her hand
- 7:52Speaker 1: in your coat. And I said, do you ever have
- 7:54Speaker 1: Dolly Parton? She goes, oh, yeah. She was a guest
- 7:56Speaker 1: here many times. How did you put the microphone on
- 7:58Speaker 1: her with what she was wearing? And she said, I
- 8:01Speaker 1: just looked at all the rhinestone and this. And I
- 8:03Speaker 1: didn't know where the hell to put the microphone. And
- 8:06Speaker 1: her staff guy obviously knew this is a constant problem
- 8:08Speaker 1: and said, here, just give it to me. I know
- 8:10Speaker 1: how to put it on.
- 8:11Speaker 4: So.
- 8:12Speaker 1: She just had this whole image of the rhinestone, the stuff,
- 8:18Speaker 1: the hair, all of this. Listen to this quote from her.
- 8:23Speaker 5: I want people to know there's some brains beneath the
- 8:25Speaker 5: wig and a heart beneath the boobs. And I think
- 8:29Speaker 5: people are beginning to see that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So the boobs were, when she first got famous, she
- 8:34Speaker 1: said the boobs were a constant source of jokes. Lots
- 8:39Speaker 1: and lots of jokes. There were Dolly Parton jokes everywhere
- 8:41Speaker 1: about that. And then the big moment was one night
- 8:44Speaker 1: she's on with Johnny Carson. This is when she first
- 8:46Speaker 1: became a star. And it was a memorable moment for
- 8:50Speaker 1: Johnny Carson. This would play on the Best Of show
- 8:52Speaker 1: every year.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Have you always been rather zoptic?
- 8:56Speaker 5: What would they call that when.
- 8:58Speaker 3: You grew up in Tennessee?
- 8:59Speaker 5: I can't say.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Healthy?
- 9:02Speaker 3: Healthy, I guess.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Boozy me. What did you ask me just before that? Oh, well, yeah.
- 9:12Speaker 5: I've always been pretty well-blessed. People are always asking if
- 9:15Speaker 5: they're real.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Oh, I would never. I would never, you see. No,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you don't have to ask. I would not.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I'll tell you what. I have certain guidelines.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But I would give about a year's pay to peek
- 9:28Speaker 1: under there. Big memorable moment. In her career now the
- 9:37Speaker 1: music of course, you know And the amazing thing is
- 9:40Speaker 1: you talk to really young people even kids They all
- 9:43Speaker 1: know her music the movie nine to five still running
- 9:47Speaker 1: all over the place. It was a great great film
- 9:50Speaker 1: the song and In the early days of cable and
- 9:54Speaker 1: all the movie channels. This was the movie they ran
- 9:57Speaker 1: all the time So a younger generation saw it and
- 10:00Speaker 1: people still watch it's an incredible movie because it's so
- 10:03Speaker 1: outdated in a wonderful way it's about sexual harassment they
- 10:07Speaker 1: got the it was lily tomlin and jane fonda and
- 10:10Speaker 1: dolly parton and they're working for was it dabney coleman
- 10:13Speaker 1: who's a great guy in real life but in the
- 10:15Speaker 1: movie the nastiest most awful boss and he was sexually
- 10:19Speaker 1: harassing them left and right. And it was a great script.
- 10:23Speaker 1: In fact, the greatest line, one of Dolly Parton's greatest
- 10:27Speaker 1: movie line, and one of the greatest lines ever in
- 10:30Speaker 1: a movie, was her finally standing up and to the boss,
- 10:33Speaker 1: confronting him about all the sexual harassment. Listen to this
- 10:36Speaker 1: great line.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Look, I got a gun out there in my purse
- 10:39Speaker 5: and up to now I've been forgiven and forgetting because
- 10:41Speaker 5: of the way I was brought up. But I'll tell
- 10:43Speaker 5: you one thing. If you ever say another word about
- 10:45Speaker 5: me or make another indecent proposal, I'm going to get
- 10:48Speaker 5: that gun of mine and I'm going to change you
- 10:50Speaker 5: from a rooster to a hand with one shot.
- 10:54Speaker 1: But, uh, she was an amazing, amazing person. And, uh,
- 10:59Speaker 1: Did a lot of interviews and talked a lot. She
- 11:01Speaker 1: was a very smart woman. She was a great businesswoman,
- 11:04Speaker 1: very generous, great philanthropist.
- 11:07Speaker 5: For me, the Dolly Parton star is accomplishing every possible
- 11:10Speaker 5: thing that I can. I want to mean something. I
- 11:13Speaker 5: don't want to just be some joke. I don't want
- 11:15Speaker 5: to be the all-American joke, you know, just with the
- 11:18Speaker 5: boobs and the hair and the tight belts or whatever.
- 11:21Speaker 5: I want to be a meaningful, artistic person.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You can't find anybody anywhere, anybody, any co-star, anybody that
- 11:30Speaker 1: ever worked with her, anybody that'll ever say a bad
- 11:32Speaker 1: word about her. There's no bad anything. She's one of
- 11:34Speaker 1: the handful of people, celebrities, that are exactly the same
- 11:38Speaker 1: off the air as on the air.
- 11:40Speaker 5: You know, I've worked hard, and I had a lot
- 11:41Speaker 5: of dreams. I've worked not only for myself but for
- 11:44Speaker 5: other people. And it's like now I want to enjoy,
- 11:48Speaker 5: really enjoy the more simple things rather than just going
- 11:52Speaker 5: full blast.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Man.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And so many great songs. And Kenny Rogers, the duets,
- 11:58Speaker 1: all that stuff. All the movies with Sylvester Stallone, of course,
- 12:03Speaker 1: all the great co-stars. Anyway, we'll get back to Dolly Parton.
- 12:06Speaker 1: We'll talk about her throughout the program. An amazing, amazing
- 12:10Speaker 1: American story. And, hey, Bruce Blakeman press conference today, 2 o'clock.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Now watch this, because Kathy Hochul has got some problems.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And they're only going to mount. Her crazy– she's trying
- 12:24Speaker 1: to walk this tightrope between being a left-wing, a Mamdani
- 12:29Speaker 1: sort of extremist and a moderate Democrat. She's not either–
- 12:34Speaker 1: nobody knows what she is. It's just a professional politician pretending.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And she's not that skilled a politician to walk this tightrope.
- 12:43Speaker 1: She's trying to hang on to the Mamdani crowd. Hopefully
- 12:48Speaker 1: you got to win a lot of New York. You
- 12:50Speaker 1: got to win 35% of New York to win the state.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So she's trying to do that, but you're going to
- 12:55Speaker 1: lose upstate. So the problem is ICE, which is just
- 12:59Speaker 1: a rock solid, good, normal law enforcement agency. It's a
- 13:03Speaker 1: task force that's arresting people who have committed crimes. In
- 13:05Speaker 1: this case, the crime would be illegal alien. And specifically
- 13:09Speaker 1: now they're going after criminals, illegals who are committing crimes.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So you couldn't have a better cause, a better thing.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But she's trying to score points with the crazy left wing.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So she and their crazy legislature, they've got a law
- 13:25Speaker 1: now that locals are not allowed to cooperate with ICE.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Can you imagine that? Imagine passing a law, you're not
- 13:31Speaker 1: allowed to cooperate with the FBI. Not allowed to cooperate
- 13:34Speaker 1: with ICE. So, of course, this is crazy. It's insane.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It's irrational. It's illogical. Now, a number of counties are
- 13:43Speaker 1: getting together and they're suing ICE. Because they want to
- 13:46Speaker 1: cooperate with ICE. They want illegal criminals, robbers, rapists, gang members, murderers.
- 13:52Speaker 1: They want them picked up and taken out of their territory,
- 13:55Speaker 1: out of their county. Nobody's better at this than Bruce Blakeman.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Blakeman has been so good about this. He set up
- 14:01Speaker 1: a whole task force to help ICE, give them whatever
- 14:04Speaker 1: they need. Listen to this.
- 14:07Speaker 6: We have the most comprehensive agreement with ICE in the
- 14:10Speaker 6: United States. I've dedicated 50 jail cells to ICE. And
- 14:13Speaker 6: I've dedicated 10 detectives from our Nassau County Police Department
- 14:17Speaker 6: to ICE. And we're doing it because we want to
- 14:19Speaker 6: make our community safer. And we've done that. We have
- 14:22Speaker 6: the safest county in America, according to U.S. News &
- 14:25Speaker 6: World Report.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's right. It's a logical thing to do.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'd say there's a couple of gang members, dangerous criminals, illegals.
- 14:32Speaker 1: ICE is going to come in and arrest them and
- 14:33Speaker 1: take them away. If you let the local police help out,
- 14:37Speaker 1: lend them jail cells, lend them some local cops, they
- 14:40Speaker 1: can send five guys in to do it. If you
- 14:43Speaker 1: refuse to cooperate with ICE, they got to send 50
- 14:46Speaker 1: guys in to do it. They need a whole big
- 14:50Speaker 1: infrastructure to help these guys make the arrest. And there's
- 14:54Speaker 1: nothing Kathy Oakley can do legally to stop them from
- 14:57Speaker 1: doing that. It's federal law. Federal law always supersedes local law.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So she's crazy. This is going to blow up in
- 15:04Speaker 1: her face. She's sticking to her guns on this.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Local police will assist ICE only if a real crime
- 15:11Speaker 3: has been committed. But on civil immigration matters, ICE is
- 15:16Speaker 3: on their own. Let me be clear. Any police department
- 15:21Speaker 3: or sheriff's office that disobeys this law, that maintains any
- 15:25Speaker 3: agreement with ICE, will face legal action.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Okay, this is going to blow up in her face.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They're going to use this against just this line.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Local police will assist ICE only if a real crime
- 15:37Speaker 3: has been committed.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You're going to see that in a lot of commercials.
- 15:40Speaker 1: This left-wing kook doesn't believe breaking into the country, coming
- 15:45Speaker 1: here illegally, doesn't believe that's actually a crime. She thinks
- 15:48Speaker 1: that's not illegal. So you're going to see that used
- 15:51Speaker 1: against her a lot. Hey, we'll get back to this.
- 15:53Speaker 1: We'll get back to Dolly Parton. We'll get to the
- 15:55Speaker 1: Trump battle with Canada that really heated up yesterday. And
- 15:59Speaker 1: a lot more just ahead. Mark Simone here 9 to noon.
- 16:02Speaker 1: It's three hours every day. 9 to noon here on 710WOR.
