- 0:00SPEAKER_01: We're back.
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: And if you're new here, I'm Henan.
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: I'm Lena.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: And this is the Obnoxiously Pleasant Podcast.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: We're back.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: We're back.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Um, it's been a rough four months.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Four months, right?
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Four months.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: So our last episode that we um that we recorded was in September.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: And uh it was supposed to be the beginning of the new season.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And then a genocide is happening.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: So there's no way that you have time to think about a new season or episode or motivation, honestly.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Like I just haven't been motivated to do this.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: It's hard to have the uh the creative um motivation or the motivation to release like your creative juices.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Especially for our usual content.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: You know, like our usual content is supposed to be fun.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: This is a safe place, no judgment zone, yeah, right.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: And our content is supposed to be just like us getting online having fun.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And it's like if you're hanging out with your friend.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: And to be completely honest with you, Lena and I haven't even hung out and spent time together because you literally have no motivation um when you're just watching people being ruthlessly murdered.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Um, and then people, other people saying that it's not happening.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: So it's it becomes a it becomes really um it becomes it just becomes really difficult to kind of depressing and sad and just day-to-day.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Like like I I I look around sometimes and I'm like, how are people just going about their daily daily lives as if nothing is happening?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Like that I struggle with that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: But if you follow us on on Instagram or on TikTok, um or like or on YouTube, um, you'll see that like we've been doing other things.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: We've begin we've been creating some shorts content, and so but not as much as I'd like to, but I I generally don't have it in me, right?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Like I it's it's really hard.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And I and I give credit to all those you know content creators that have been talking about this.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: We have been sharing so much great content from them.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, just Ed from an educational perspective, it's so amazing to see how people have yeah uh put together some of the content you're seeing online, and it's also just so nice to see how people have mobilized, yeah, right?
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So, but that's kind of where we've been.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: But we decided to um pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and we we we made sure today happened.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, honestly, we've attempted to do this like four times, and all four times we've ended up canceling for different reasons, or it's just hasn't come together.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: But today we really like leaned into no, we have to do this, we have to come back on.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Honestly, because I still want to do the content that we're doing, but I also want to make sure that we're constantly raising awareness.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: And I think we're both in a place now, um, emotionally, mentally, where we're like ready to do that.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: We're always raising awareness.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: But it's finally we're both in a place where we're like, we're ready to get back on camera, we're ready to talk about it.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And then we can use this platform to, like you said, educate, bring awareness, um, you know, just use it for for good.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So that's where we've been.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And speaking of awareness, you want to talk about our shirts?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, our shirts, our search is so cute.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So our shirts are made locally in the DC metro area by um this is actually by one of my friends.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Um, the brand is called La Tizi.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: You've seen them like Yes, we've we've actually worn their shirts before the stuff before.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And so we'll link her information.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And she made us these um these t-shirts, like especially for us, but they're adorable.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: The art is actually made by her daughter.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and so and she's constantly um coming up with different ways to um, you know, uh just just show shop uh show support.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Um and the nice thing about these shirts is that she actually But this is a limited edition.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this was limited.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: She made these t-shirts, especially just for Alina and I.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but she has a bunch of stuff.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: And like I said, we'll link her website.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: She's always coming up with, she's always collaborating with Palestinian artists to bring their art to light and to bring it to um, you know, just like something that's wearable.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: So the last drop was these sweatshirts, all different and different, you know, types of art.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And the nice thing is all of the money, the proceeds that she means, all of it, not a portion of it, but you know, some of it goes to the artist and the rest of it goes to donations.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So even her other, like not this, obviously because this is not all her other stuff.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: And if you go on her website, you'll read exactly how her brand came about, how much of each uh piece of uh you know, like clothing that you buy or hat or mug or whatever goes to donations.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And she was donating to Unura along with a, you know, a bunch of other um, a bunch of other organizations.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Um, but that's her kind of passive way to constantly make sure that aid is being sent or donations are being paid.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And this isn't a paid sponsorship or anything.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: We're just like putting her out there because we believe in the city.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I paid for my t-shirt because I mean she's not paying us to sponsor.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: But I I did no, honestly, she put these up for sale and she made these printed in our size.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: These were kids' t-shirts.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, especially for Lina True.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: But we paid for like I paid for these because you have to.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Like all of the money is donated.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's great.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: And I like I said, I love the way that people have mobilized and the ideas that people have come up with.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's so much great content online.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: I also really quickly I'm gonna plug a website that um a uh a former uh college friend and uh a friend Do I know them?
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Um the the disoccupied website that I posted around.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: We did a video on that.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: That website is amazing.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Um, and it was just, you know, they want uh her husband and her came up with this website because they're just like people are having boycott fatigue.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: They're having a hard time figuring out what's good to buy, what's not good to buy.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: So they have came up with this website and they kept it a website specifically and not an app because they don't want to be thrown off, you know, the Yeah, because there's a lot of like restrictions, yeah, or the Apple store.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: There's so many restrictions, but it's amazing and they're constantly making up.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll put a link, we'll put a link to the code.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're so good at taking feedback.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I think it's just this occupied.com, right?
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: I it I just love to see the way that people have mobilized the support.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Um and I try really hard not to.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: In the beginning of all of this conflict, I was really going in there and trying to go out of my way to message people, encounter them, and educate them, and you know, that lasted about like four weeks.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that gets tying.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: I mean and then I was like, I'm done.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna put my content out there.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: And if you're gonna be negative, yeah.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: That's that's a that that's something we can talk about just real quickly.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, as a Palestinian, I'm done explaining myself and I'm done explaining what's going on because in this day and age, you have all the information right in front of you.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: You know, like I I don't I shouldn't have to explain why my people shouldn't get genocided.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Like they shouldn't.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: They shouldn't get genocidic.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I'm tired of doing that.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: But anyway, go ahead.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: For the future.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: But that's but that's that's essentially it.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Like it does get very and you know it's funny.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: My I what I think is hilarious if from my perspective, right?
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Like as an as an Egyptian American and as an Egyptian, is when people ask me, like, why don't you open your border?
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: I'm like, do I work for the government?
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Am I somebody who I don't know?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I think there's I have the power to do that.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I think there needs to be uh um the word I'm looking like the people need to understand that the people aren't the same as the government.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't think we should we have to even say that, but like sometimes you have to.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And to be honest with you, at the end of the day, like this is a um, at the end of the day, like uh this is a humanitarian like problem.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: If you can't see that this is a crisis and that these people are being ruthlessly murdered, that this is a genocide and it's not a war.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: Stop calling it a big thing.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's not, okay, it's not a war.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: So if you can't see that, um like where do we even begin?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have a question for you about everything that's been going on.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: So, and by the way, like Kanan said, we haven't really seen each other.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, we call each other sometimes, we've done it.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I I just want to know after four months of this horrible, horrible situation, what is one thing you've learned that you didn't you weren't aware of or you didn't really think about in the past?
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Like, what's one thing that people are incredibly stupid and incredibly unkind and really not compassionate, and they have people do not know history, they do not and refuse to understand why this did not start on the seventh.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but see, I I understand, I I like I understand what you're saying, but I think a lot of people, especially in this country, a lot of them have been you know, the the the media in this country has played a big role in that.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: I I I look and I'm not making excuses for the but there's so for the ignorant.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: This is friends, this is literally the most well-documented genocide in the history of mankind.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: We're watching it in real time, yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: When the history of mankind and the fact that people don't see that or still question what's happening, it just blows my mind.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: It's not just how little people know, it's how like resistant they are to learning information or to absorbing information because it's all out there and it's almost like they have been programmed to believe one thing and they refuse to just open up their minds.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: And I don't want to like generalize because honestly, I have come across like in the last like four months some phenomenal people who have completely broken down their entire like way of thinking and rebuilt it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: And I am so um grateful and thankful that there are people out there that are still willing to do that, but then there's so many people that are just like so resistant to change.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: For me, this this genocide exposed um the idea of human rights, and I think it's you know, with what's happening to the Palestinians now, I mean it's been happening for 75 years, it's not just the concept of the concept of human, yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: The concept of human rights um and that everybody every life matters.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: I don't think that applies to Palestinians.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of these uh world powers, the people who are in charge, the people who are making these decisions, there's a double standard and there's a hypocrisy there.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I've always felt that way.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: I've always known that.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: No, no, I'm not surprised.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: I'm not surprised.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I'm saying this was exposed.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Like it the veil is completely off.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's what I'm saying.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Like anyone who believed in these ideas, for me, like I laugh at that.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: You know, like even before this happened, I knew there was always a double standard for Palestinians and people of color and like, you know, uh uh marginalized communities.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Like I understand that.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, but now it's like you can't, you know, go back from this.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I feel like for me, that veil was removed um after the last, like, you know, say 20 years of of just like world wars that we've been a part of.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Um, it really has taught me that like human rights are kind of a joke.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Like they only apply to some people.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm not talking about just like not just wars, but also just like when it comes to like civil liberties, like in America, right?
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: And our rights here.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Um, you being being Muslim in this country, being black in this country, um, that already, there's already a bias against you, right?
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Like no matter what you do.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: So when you talk about human rights, we have a different set of rules.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when you talk about human rights, I'm like, yeah, human rights are amazing.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Like if I was white.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And like the idea of also like um like freedom of speech.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Like in the beginning of this whole thing, like they like there was all this media coverage about campuses and you know, like college campuses and like students.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: And I'm just like, I'm sorry.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Like, this is uh the you know, you have freedom of speech, you have freedom of expression, or that's what we were taught anyway.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: And for everybody that's gonna come and comment and tell us you're doing this from the comfort of your home, you have you know, yes, I'm doing this from the comfort of my home.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm allowed to, just like you're allowed to have an opinion from the comfort of your home.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, I am allowed to have an opinion from the comfort of my home.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that idea, like, like, and and whatever, they can say whatever they want to say, but for me, it's this is all it's it's a facade.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Like, I I'm just like, really?
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Like now we're gonna go after students who are speaking their mind who are calling for the end to genocide, who are calling for a ceasefire.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Now that's become offensive.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's not like you know, like that's hate speech.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: No, I don't know how um like how no no seriously, how is that hate speech when you're calling for the end of an occupation, the end of apartheid, the end of uh uh of a genocide because it doesn't fit someone's political agenda.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that's complete and utter bullshit.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm not justifying it, I'm just saying that's the reason.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, and like and that's the thing, like really you you spend so much time, and like the media in this country is just like legacy media.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Like, what are you doing?
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Like, when are you like that?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: It it doesn't work.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: You guys can't hide all the deaths of babies.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Speaking of legacy media, I will say one thing, right?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I've never ever in my life seen anybody play so much verbal gymnastics like the New York Times has in the last video.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: No, no, did you see the last line headline?
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: That's freaking Thomas Friedman.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, not even no, no, forget that.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: But it's in general, New York Times, the Washington.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, they go out of their way, and then yeah, it's phenomenal though.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just like, like yesterday I saw a headline and in the New York Times, and I was on Instagram, and I just responded and I was like, finish the headline, New York Times.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Finish the headline.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Headline, do you remember?
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: The headline was about um uh the Israeli government believes that a fifth of the uh of the hostages are now dead.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm and I'm like, um, how do you think that happened?
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah finish the headline.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, whatever.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like the the steps they go.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: That's how I feel about legacy media.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I will say though, CNN never ceases to amaze me by how many, like, I've never seen anybody do that many cartwheels in my life.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a whole report, but there's a whole report, you know, like not a single story that you know is from Palestine is allowed to go on air without the Israeli, yeah, the Israelis going over.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, like that to me, like that's the thing.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Like, this this genocide has exposed so much.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: And like I said, you and I both know that a lot of this stuff didn't really exist before this anyway.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Like, we're not stupid, right?
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: And but like I'm just shocked at the level of how they don't give a shit.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: It's all out in the open now.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I will say, as as resistant as I did, like in my in my original, in my original statement, when I said that people don't know, you know, what people refuse to learn or people are, you know, just they're they're just stupid.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: I hate using that word, but it's they're ignorant.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Ignorant is the right word, and they choose to stay ignorant.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: I'm also like amazed by the amount of people that have just like I said opened up their mindsets, rebuilt their belief systems, are just out there sharing information deprogrammed themselves.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: So in December, I went to visit one of our friends, and I met her friend, and I you know when you like you meet somebody and like your your faith is like renewed.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's good.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: So I met I met this woman, and she is just, you know, like she's white from from Middle America.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: From from yeah, from Minnesota.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, and uh Minnesota, and I was just amazed by the fact that she was like at every protest that she was like wearing her kofia proudly, that she's teaching her kids.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: She understands what brands.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: But see, that's but that's the thing.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: But it makes me so it really renews my favor because she's somebody who who knew very little, went out, read, educated, and it's not just because she has a Palestinian friend, it's because she's really out there, like trying to learn about, you know, the the the issue at hand.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: And I will say, like, you know, I have a like I was met with with a lot of comments, especially online.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: People are like, you know, why aren't you talking about Sudan?
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: Why aren't you talking about the DRC?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And it's terrible.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: It's terrible.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: But you have these when when you have so much light shed on one genocide, it twitches us as humans to really stop and pause and look and say, like, yeah, no, we need to look at what's happening in the rest of the world and why all of these innocent people are dying.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: And what are they dying for?
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Like, what are they being murdered for?
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: So yeah, my my um yeah, my my my my my my favorite.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: So you have hope.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: I have a little bit of- I mean, listen, like I I have hope too.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Like when I see all these people and like and I've been to uh both of the huge, huge protests that were in DC, the one in the first one in uh November.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then they had another one in uh was it yeah, January 13th, I think.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: And I went to both of them and both had like close to half a million people there, right?
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: And like these people from all walks of life, yeah, you know, so it wasn't just Arab, it wasn't just Palestinian, it wasn't just Muslims.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Everybody I've seen it.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I've been raised by some of the people like in my family, yeah, right, who haven't missed like a single protest.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Like Hanan doesn't believe in protests.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: I didn't say that.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: No, she believes, but she's just not gonna go.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna go to protests.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, it's honestly, it's uh it's for me.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm all for like everybody like pick a lane and show your support somehow.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: For me, I I think it's wonderful that people go out and people protest and all of that stuff.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I'm much more of the belief that like I will, you know, I I I find who our um influential like lawmakers are, are congressional people, and then that becomes my target.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: That's where I like to do my work, right?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, um, especially.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: No, I understand that.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: I mean, people people show their support differently, but for me, I also want to highlight the fact that there were in every single protest that I've been to, there's always a huge group of Jewish Americans.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: And I think we need to give them also credit because these guys are there day in and day out.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: You know, and so because this also proves the point that this isn't about religion, this isn't about this is about human rights, basic human rights, and people who are against genocide, yeah, right.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: So if you aren't calling this a genocide, if you think what's happening to the people of Palestine and the bombardment of Gaza and the killing and all the the what over what 11,000 now, 12,000 children have been over 11,000 children.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, so if you think that's okay, then you're just not a human being.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Can I tell you that I saw this post yesterday and I don't remember where it was from?
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: I don't have I'll have to I'll have to find it.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: But um they like a a group of activists laid out uh children's clothes.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, I saw that I posted it on a on the beach and it was like five kilometers.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I know it's so sad with so depressing kids clothes.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Like it's um the just the whole the whole this this whole uh uh uh just this this genocide, this aggression, this ruthless killing, like I don't know how you can remove everything from it.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: You can't, it's it's not about it's not about the hostages anymore, it's not about Hamas, it's not about anything.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: This is literally just about the cleansing of a people.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Like, and how do you not see that?
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: There's just all these people are being murdered.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and like like like I said, the calling for a ceasefire fire is now like considered if you call for a ceasefire, you're you're a terrorist.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm just like, come on, really, like stop.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Like, where's the humanity?
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: So, what do you think?
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: I know like we're kind of late to the to the game because we haven't met when are we ever not gonna be able to do that?
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: No, but like we haven't met in like what four months.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: We haven't done one, but like what do you think about the people on social media that have big platforms that aren't talking about this?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: I think they're jerks.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: I mean not let me you know what?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, they're jerks.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they are.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I here's the thing like it's it's really hard for me when you have like such a huge platform, and I understand that like I really do.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: I understand that this is people's like way of making money, and this is how they fund their existence and their lives and all of that stuff.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: And some brands don't like you know, certain messaging, yeah.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: But like this is not it's like okay.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: What about what do you explain it?
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: How do I explain it?
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's narrow it down.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Arabs who are not using their platform, like DJ Khalid.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: That guy needs to get his Palestinian card revoked.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: That like blew up.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: It's disgusting.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's always been stupid anyway.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: I never liked him.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, and to be honest with you, like I'm I'm just really surprised at the um like I knew that in Hollywood, like you know, people will always watch out, like watch what they say or whatever, because you know, the way that the that the and Hollywood in general is is is you know the institution, how it's built and who's in charge and all of that stuff.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but you still have like big named people out there like really taking a stand.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: But do you think they have a responsibility?
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, because people say people who argue against that like you and I, for example, want people to do that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: I think it's your responsibility as a human being to like point to what's right and what's wrong.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it doesn't matter if they're actors or celebrities or anything, right?
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Like they should you should speak up for what's right.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: You should speak.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: So here's the thing And use your platform because you have so many people looking up to you, so many people following you, one person can maybe but at the same time, like I cannot dictate to people like what's common sense and what's not.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Like, if you don't want to use your platform, fine, that's okay.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: But just like know that like you may be polarizing some of your existing like followership or some of your existing support.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: And if you're okay with that, then you're okay with that.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but if you're okay with with with ignoring that there's a genocide happening and you're okay with you know all of the But that but that has nothing to do with being like an influencer or not an influence.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: I know, but you know what I mean?
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: But don't you think when because people always argue against like oh well they're celebrating, I think people think from them.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, that's not it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: But I think people think like everybody has like a social responsibility to and I agree, everybody has a social responsibility, like when another human being is being hurt, you should stop and pause and say, we can't hurt each other like that, right?
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: If that, like the basis of like what makes us humans doesn't make sense to you, whether you're famous or not, like what do we you are doing?
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: But see, my issue too, my issue with these guys or these people is the fact that it's selective, they have selective outrage.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Like they'll speak up, speak up about certain things, yeah, but then ignore so either either you you speak up for uh everything or you don't at all.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, like but you can't just selectively say, Oh, I'm against certain things, but then this doesn't suit again, again.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: I can't even begin to understand the mindset, and maybe because I'm not like a famous person, I don't know.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're famous in your own way, yeah.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: You're famous in your own way in my bubble.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: No, but like I just I don't I don't get it.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I and it's not even about I see what you're saying about like speaking up for some things and not for other things, but yeah, I think that that that's uh there's a hypocrisy in it all.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like I again, like I am not waiting for those people to speak up and show the world that what's happening is wrong.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Like, really, they are like the last thing.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: It's not about that, it's about you have a response.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, like, I like you said, maybe the social.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Responsibility aspect of it, but like what bothers me the most, like I said, is there's certain issues that you see them at the forefront and like making the most noise.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: But when there's an actual genocide happening, I mean, like what sometimes it's because they're just racist.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: And then sometimes people are just worried about protecting their own income.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: And then you don't know, like, I like I'm not gonna sit here and analyze like what motivates humans to do things correctly or incorrectly, right?
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: At the end of the day, like when these things happen, I just decided that I am not going to wait for a famous person to endorse what's right and what's wrong for me.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: I know some people need that.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I personally don't need that, so I'm not waiting for that.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I think for you, maybe because you don't place that much of a like a value, not value, but like you don't really care what, like you're not into the whole celebrity culture thing, right?
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: So here's the thing, like, but I but I do I understand where you're coming from, but it's not being like being into it or not into it.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: There is a um uh uh a woman that I follow on TikTok, like she's she's awesome, right?
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: She is Egyptian American and she does like all of the entertainment, um, you know, uh analysis of the city.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: I think I know, I think I know who you're talking about.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Her name is devotedly yours.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: We should link her.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Her page is awesome.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: And she um, like at the start of all of this, a lot of her focus has been the uh the celebrities that are getting uh targeted for like speaking out about this issue.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: And I think it's amazing the way that she raises um the way that she raises But usually she does celebrity stuff, yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Wasn't she the one that did the Johnny Depp like?
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Oh okay, yeah, yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: I yeah, I thought that she's awesome.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: She's awesome.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's really good.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she she usually uh raises awareness on celebrities who are getting kind of, you know, they're basically getting criticized for raising awareness on what's happening in Palestine.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: And so that I'm like cool with, but then other than that, I'm just like, whatever.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: I don't care about celebrities, I don't care what they have to say, I don't care about influencers.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I get it.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Some people have amazing things to say and it's fine, but again, I look at it as, and and a lot of people are gonna ask, I'm sure, when we post this, like, well, you guys never talked about Ukraine, you guys never talked about this, you guys never talked about what happened, you know, the the floods that happened in Libya.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: You guys never and I I understand where everybody is coming from.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Everybody, as I like to say, like, you know, I I I've never said, I've never gone out there and said, Oh, guys, I'm a social justice warrior.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: I'm not, you're not a social justice warrior either.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: No, neither of us are.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: All I'm saying is that this to me is is it it's it's just very interesting to me because, like I said, it's something that's so well documented and everywhere, and then you have so much propaganda out there as just like this is a lie, this is a lie.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, okay, that's fine.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: I don't I really don't know.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, well, but the Ukraine, you mentioned Ukraine, but like the Ukraine situation made we're all against any country getting invaded.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's like of course I mean, like, no one, there's no there's but again, nobody questioned.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: And again, I'll explain kind of like why we're talking about this.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: But nobody questioned you, like, I don't I didn't question that that's wrong.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Like, I I'm not, you know what I mean?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Like, that's not but this is this has been like the way the Palestinians are being uh presented in the media and just like this whole discussion is that you know, there's a lot of racism involved, there's a lot of hatred, there's a lot of ignorance, yeah, and there's a lot of propaganda.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: And the we feel the need we have to say something because we need to we need to combat that.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: So the I think and I don't I I I don't think it's just that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: So like if like like I said, a lot of people ask, like, why that why aren't you posting about or why aren't you talking about Sudan?
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: And why aren't you talking about, you know, the DRC?
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: I like I'm I'm against, you know, a transgression against human rights, period.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Like I'm against that.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Agreed.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: My main and and I think maybe this, this, this issue specifically, right?
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: And putting aside like uh, well, I can't really put it aside.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: One, it's a genocide, like you can't, but I really think this issue matters so much to us, to me, to Lena.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: One, because Lena is Palestinian, right?
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Two, um, I've this a country I've visited, and I loved the people, and I loved just how we were welcomed and how we were received.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: It's very hard, and I maybe it's because identify like it's a it's not just because you identify Hannah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: I think what people like whoever, like if someone's gonna criticize us for not talking about guys, let's get one thing straight.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: This genocide, it is a genocide, we've established that, right?
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: But the amount of people that have been killed, yeah, has never been seen in history before.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: The amount of journalists that have been targeted and killed has never been seen in history before.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: The amount of what it's over 80% of Palestinians, probably 85% at this point, have been displaced from their homes.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: The destruction and the and the and the death that's taken place there that the Israeli government, the Israeli military is doing to the Palestinians there has never been seen in history.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: This is why this is a big deal.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: This is an issue.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Like the damage, the destruction that's happened.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: I think there was a there was a report the other day, like I saw an article.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: The entire 20th century didn't have this in all the conflicts of the 20th century, did not have the amount of casualties.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: As much as Gazza, just Gazza in the past four months.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so yeah, this is this is different.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: It's different.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: And and we're watching it in real time on our phones.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: And what am I supposed to do?
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: Like, what kind of what am I supposed to do?
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: What's my reaction supposed to be?
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: You know what's you know, it's uh it's I I 100% agree with you, but I I I always it's at a different scale.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: That's my point.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: But uh, but look, I'll tell you something.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: I understand exactly what you're saying, but my my point is that I think everybody, because you're I uh we will have somebody, and I have been asked that question like why didn't you feel this way about you know Syria?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Why didn't you feel this way about it?
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: No, no, but I was well, I was upset, I was heartbroken.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: I was like you and I both, we know that about here's the thing.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I think for me And this is not a competition.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: No, I mean for God's taste, like is it is it a competition of suffering?
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Like I don't understand that.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: No, but uh but again, my point is I really think we all for me, this is such a um, this is something that like really, really like hit me deeply because of the fact that like one, I am a I'm I'm I'm a I'm a mom.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Let's let's go before before like for I'm a mother.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: That's like before anything else, like once I became a mom, I feel like my role in life everywhere changed.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Watching other mothers and parents not have the ability to care for their kids as in just to keep them safe, to feed them.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: That to me, just like I don't know, it hits in a different place, like in my existence and my soul.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: I what do you think about social media companies censoring Palestinian voices?
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: I think it's bullshit, right?
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh yeah, but but again, you know, it's a business.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: So I guess um I don't think it's about a business, I think it's about controlling what people see, but it's control and it's business, because like even if I would like to pay for ads and stuff, it depends on how much money I want to pay and if they're gonna like post my advertising.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I think it's crap because I think it's an unpopular opinion to support human rights.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: So apparently, or to support the human rights of brown people.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: So apparently, apparently, um, yeah, they're not gonna be able to.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: So you're not surprised.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm not sure.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: I'm not surprised, but at the same time, like the the the extent to which they've gone to suppress Palestinian voices, not surprise me in the least bit.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: I will say, like, in the beginning of all of this, when we were completely like our our account was just Oh, yeah, we got shadow banned.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we got shadow banned.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: Um, I was so because henan, literally every post she'd post would be like, I stand with Palestine.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: I was so upset because I'm like they don't like that.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: You're not allowed to stand with Palestine.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you just can't.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: You can't stand with Palestine.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: But anyways, but Zuckerberg and Meta does not like that.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: No.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so have you been boycotting?
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: How's the boycotting going?
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: So, you know, honestly, having that website that I told you about, this occupied, makes things a lot easier.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: There are things that we are trying to figure out like what our next steps are, uh what our next steps are on, like finding new coffee, right?
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I know you're a big Starbucks person.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, I haven't had Starbucks.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, you haven't?
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: The last day I had Starbucks was October 6th.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Like I wanted to follow up with it because I know Hanan likes to go to Starbucks.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: So how has it been?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: So honestly, like I don't my issue is not Starbucks, put that on the side.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: My issue is things that I use in my house regularly, and that's what I'm trying to, you know, like work through.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: So like there are things that are like I don't buy because I'm like I'm never gonna buy like Sabra Homos, for example.
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Stuff like that.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Um, but I mean that goes without saying.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: But even if they didn't support uh Israel, I mean their homos is pretty bad.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: So besides the point.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, no, I I honestly think that um, like I always say, like I've when I when I posted that post on Instagram, like money is power, friends.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Like, know where you're giving your money.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: There are things that I need to um that I need to figure out alternatives for.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: For example, like my espresso coffee.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: I'm going through the last of like my 400 sleeves, and then I'm like, okay, well, what's my next option gonna be?
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Am I gonna buy a different espresso maker?
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Am I gonna just like make it the old-fashioned way on the stovetop with that little Italian thing, the Bialetti or whatever it's called?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Or just brikahua.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: Brikawa.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: No, no, that doesn't that doesn't work for me.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: I'm joking.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, yeah, have like a traditional Ada Bitahua or Turkish coffee.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: That doesn't work for me.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I just need to figure out like what my next steps are gonna be.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: So you haven't like it's not, it's not difficult.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: It hasn't been difficult.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: No, but I haven't really like I mean, this is the least we can do.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, I haven't really like um how do I have to.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: But I mean, like, for example, like uh Puma.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Puma, I I mean, I don't know who wears Puma anymore, but like Puma, I haven't like as soon as I found out they were on the uh boycott list, like years ago.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I would I used to buy the kids, and then when I realized I'm like, no, like when they were younger, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: I I haven't like I always try to like pay attention, like for example, Trader Joe's.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: They have a bunch of crap there that says made in Israel.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: So I always make sure, like if I go up to like a place, like a uh a supermarket, like Trader Joe's, whatever I, wherever I am, like I'll always look at the back of the yeah, like those little the the little tiny um what are they called?
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Like the pre-crushed garlic and cilantro and basil and stuff.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Those two?
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I don't I don't get those.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, but I'm just saying, like, if you're out there buying stuff.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I don't know.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I don't I it's not about being hard.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: But you you're becoming a more more conscious of the.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: I was just gonna say that's the thing.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: It's becoming more conscious of what you're buying um and like what kind of impact paying attention to these things, like who's selling them, what do they support?
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, we have to do this.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: And I think like when I first showed, um, when I first showed um my kids the disoccupied website, my older son goes, Oh, Frosted Flakes is on the list.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, mesquite.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: And it was just this disappointment.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: But Trader Joe's does make a frosted flakes replacement.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Just make sure it's not, you know, back in the back always.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, let me see what else I have here.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Um, yes, this is this is the final uh point that I want to talk about on this episode.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: The Arab American vote in the upcoming election.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: I don't want to talk about that.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: I I uh no.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: What do you think about people saying, you know, like basically guilting uh Arab Americans saying we're gonna have somebody worse?
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can take this.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Honestly, that Washington Post article was disgusting.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, and if you don't know what it is, Lena is gonna be awesome and insert the headline into the.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: It wasn't just the post, it was all was it the post or the Wall Street Journal?
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: It was the post, I think.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, we'll figure it out.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Whoa.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, whatever.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Like, I have so many thoughts about this, which is why I don't want to talk about this.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: No, talk about it for an episode of No, no, talk about it because like it's first of all, yes, yes, please.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Okay, see, I'm gonna get her going.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: But okay, so like what are my options?
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Bad and worse?
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, bad and worse.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Like, I can't you cannot guilt me into and guys, let me tell you something.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: When I vote as an American, I vote based on public policy, what's happening in this country.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I learned a long ass time ago that foreign policy is the same regardless of who is in office, okay?
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and yeah, but in this case, would you allow yourself to vote for?
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm I don't want to get into who you're voting for, but like, would you allow yourself record anyway when you vote?
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Doesn't matter.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, so would you allow yourself uh like just morally speaking, for someone who didn't do anything to stop what do you mean the genocide, like a presidential candidate.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, like a candidate, where is my where is my own?
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Even if their foreign policy is is the same.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Can I tell you guys that I made a decision a lot, like like even before any of this went down, that I was just like, what a wasted vote in the last elections.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: And it's not like I love Trump either.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: No, no, I mean, and both of us don't.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Like we're not, we're not.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: And I don't, and honestly, everybody again is free to vote for whomever they want.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: But don't guilt me.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Don't guilt me.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Don't don't don't guilt me, but at the same time, like I do want to um, I do want to like stress that it is, it is, it is a beautiful um um privilege to be able to vote in an election, to have people run for office, to do all of that stuff.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: So I am not belittling that process whatsoever.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: But however, yeah, however, you cannot expect me.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: It has nothing to do with being Arab either, as a human being, to have a man in office that I voted for, right?
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Like, and I was let I was team, like I was team Biden Harris, like like no other, right?
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: You cannot expect me, like I said, as a human being, has nothing to do with being Arab to have a man that's in office fully funding and giving money to another country to kill innocent people while we have a problem with our education system.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And I know that's not him federally, that's like state, but we have that issue.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: We have an issue with the rise of homelessness in this country.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Um, I understand that he was trying to do, you know, forgive some of these, you know, student loans.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And there was some success in some areas and failures in others.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I understand like the weapons, you know, but you can't claim, but but see, they claim that that this country claims to be morally superior when it comes to these things, and you cannot claim that, but then go ahead and be complicit in a genocide.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: I just think very big issues.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: And for me, like you are okay giving money to another country to kill innocent people, but not address the problems that we have here at home.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Like, even at even if I had didn't have a single shred of humanity in my heart, and I was gonna use my logic, logic tells you what.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: Not gonna do that again.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: No.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Um, for me, it's it's like my issue is if you want this vote, yeah, you need to be the one doing the work as a candidate.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: You need to convince me as to why I should vote for you.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: If you can't have, or if you don't like if you don't have basic human decency, how am I supposed to vote for you if you're complicit?
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: You're not even complicit, you are supporting this genocide.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: How can I, yeah, okay, as a voter, vote for you?
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: And then, and then the bigger issue is the people who are blaming us, the voters, those who care about children getting murdered on a daily basis.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, like I at this point, every day, the notifications that I get on my phone, at least 150 Palestinians are killed every single day.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: And I'm supposed to feel bad because if I don't vote for this guy, uh a much worse guy is gonna win.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: How is that my problem as a voter?
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: That the the onus shouldn't be on us, it should be on the candidates.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: You need to do a better job.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: You need to know that I mean, what, 80% of Democrats believe that there needs to be a ceasefire.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: That's 80% of your party.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: It's not on me as the voter.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: It shouldn't be on the voter.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: And and and people need to stop making us feel bad.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna feel bad.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I don't feel bad about anything except the fact that innocent people are dying.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: And they're not dying, they're being murdered.
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: They're being murdered.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Let's let's yeah, get the terminology correct, okay?
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: They're being murdered.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I think this is a good start.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, we were kind of rusty a little bit.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: I feel like we were a little rusty.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's been a while.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: But we'll we'll and and honestly, this this is a really hard topic to like wrap up in 22 minutes because there's so many feelings, there's so many emotions, there's so many things happening.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: And like the least we can do is just basically say, like, okay, we're, you know, we're dealing with this.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: On a day-to-day basis.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, and and other people are dealing with this and they're doing a much better job.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, definitely.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: Much better job.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Best inshallah, inshallah, this will be the first the first of any.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: And we'll be back with regular content, and we'll be back with some of the stuff that makes you guys laugh.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Because I do think in times of darkness, which is what we are experiencing now, um, the we need to find like joy in some of the little things that we experience in day-to-day life.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: So I think I mean there's an episode up out there that we recorded that we never posted.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: So maybe one day we'll put that in.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: Maybe one day we'll post that.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because it's it was a really fun episode, but I just didn't feel like it's appropriate to uh put it in.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but we'll definitely um we'll definitely, like I said, go back to posting some of our other content because I do feel like um it's I do feel like you do need to find joy in time.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but we also we are gonna do a lot of like we're gonna be discussing this, this, the situation.
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: I had asked you guys on Instagram about things that you wanted to see, and so a lot of people want to talk about um about motherhood and you know life as Arab Americans in this country.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: So I feel like some of this stuff ties into some of this and everything's kind of like.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I think we're also just just just so you know, especially during this time, we are gonna have uh topics and episodes pertaining to Felestine.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: So just look out for but we'll try to make it um I don't know how to say not light, but like we'll try to make it No, it won't be light, but it'll just be, you know, informative.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Yes, informative.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: That's the right word.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Well, until next time.
- 40:19unknown: All right.
