  May 30th Strength in patience. Here's a question that might
• 0:14
  surprise you. What does it actually take to be
• 0:16
  strong? Because we usually think of
• 0:19
  strength in terms of power being the loudest, the most dominant,
• 0:23
  the one who wins the argument or gets their way.
• 0:26
  Culture rewards that kind of strength.
• 0:29
  It looks impressive, but Proverbs chapter 16, verse 32
• 0:34
  completely redefines the whole concept.
• 0:37
  Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty.
• 0:40
  And he who rules a spirit than he who takes a city, ruling your
• 0:44
  own spirit, that is harder and greater than military conquest.
• 0:49
  The person who can stay calm when they're being provoked, who
• 0:53
  can hold their tongue when everything in them wants to
• 0:55
  react, who can choose patience when frustration is boiling.

  That person possesses a strength that is genuinely rare and
• 1:03
  genuinely powerful, and God calls that better than being
• 1:07
  mighty. Think about that.

  Verse 31 frames this in terms of a life well lived.
• 1:13
  Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is gained in a righteous
• 1:17
  life, a long life shaped by consistent righteousness.
• 1:21
  By choosing well repeatedly over time produces something you
• 1:25
  can't fake or rush. It's the kind of character that
• 1:29
  only comes from 1000. Small decisions made faithfully,
• 1:32
  not flashy, not viral worthy, but real, lasting, and
• 1:37
  honorable. Ephesians chapter 5 verse 8 then
• 1:41
  gives us our identity as the foundation for all of this.
• 1:44
  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
• 1:49
  Walk as children of light. You are not who you used to be.
• 1:53
  Whatever was there before, the patterns, the habits, the ways
• 1:56
  of responding that came from a place of fear or self
• 1:59
  protection, that is not your identity anymore.

  You are light, and light doesn't blend into the darkness around
• 2:06
  it. It shows up differently.
• 2:08
  It changes the room. Verses 11 and 12 make the
• 2:13
  practical implication clear. Take no part in the unfruitful
• 2:16
  works of darkness, but instead expose them, for it is shameful
• 2:21
  even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
• 2:24
  The call isn't to be judgmental or self-righteous, it's simply
• 2:28
  to not participate when the group chat starts circulating
• 2:32
  something harmful. When the pressure is on to go
• 2:34
  along with something you know is wrong, when it would be easy and
• 2:39
  socially safe to just stay quiet and blend in.
• 2:41
  Being light means you don't. Not with a big speech
• 2:45
  necessarily, but with the quiet, consistent choice to not give
• 2:49
  your participation to what tears people down or dishonors God.
• 2:53
  That takes patience. It takes self-control.
• 2:57
  It takes being willing to stand slightly apart from the crowd
• 3:00
  sometimes without making a big deal of it.
• 3:03
  And here's what nobody tells you about that.
• 3:05
  It's actually freeing when you stop chasing the approval of the
• 3:09
  loudest voices in the room and start living from a place of
• 3:13
  genuine conviction. There's a settled Ness that
• 3:15
  comes with it, a piece that doesn't depend on whether
• 3:19
  everyone is clapping for you. Patience and self-control aren't
• 3:23
  weakness. They're the daily practice of
• 3:25
  the strongest kind of character there is, and they're being
• 3:29
  built in you right now, one small faithful choice at a time.
• 3:33
  Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 3:35
  redefining strength in a way that is actually attainable and
• 3:38
  actually real. Help me to be slow to anger and
• 3:42
  quick to choose patience, not because I'm suppressing myself,
• 3:46
  but because I am genuinely submitted to you.
• 3:49
  Where I've been walking in darkness or going along with
• 3:52
  things I know are wrong. Redirect me.
• 3:55
  I want to walk as a child of light.
• 3:57
  Consistently, humbly and honestly.
• 4:00
  Shape my character in the quiet moments that nobody sees, and
• 4:03
  let that shape everything else in Jesus name, Amen.

  This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of

  the assembly. Nevertheless, each of you must

  also love his own wife even as himself, and let the wife see
