- 0:44Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:48I'm Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian Sigler, buddy.
- 0:52How you doing tonight? Winds Today, let's do it.
- 0:55It's hump day coming off the bye week, feeling refreshed not as
- 0:59much stress on the body over the last weekend.
- 1:05Not as much stress as having to go through three and a half hour
- 1:09stomach ache. As Justin Fuente has said
- 1:12consistently this year about our team.
- 1:15I got to go through a hour and a half stomach ache on Sunday
- 1:21watching, the 49ers play the Seahawks when we Hold them.
- 1:26Hold them. Hold them drive drive drive, get
- 1:29three. Freakin points.
- 1:31Yeah. Yeah, y'all definitely figure
- 1:33out a new way to do it. There we finally got one in the
- 1:37books. The Colts put one on the the
- 1:39good side of the board there. Hopefully we get a little bit
- 1:43more healthy as we go into the middle part of the Season here
- 1:46because I mean we've been banged up all over the place.
- 1:51Yeah he's wise call me back and yeah you know also missed his
- 1:58first start. I mean you got that you got T
- 2:03wise been on IR. Other guys on offense and
- 2:06defense have been banged up. Jonathan Taylor got a little
- 2:10Nick this week. He might not be full.
- 2:12Go coming into this week, so true.
- 2:16It's been an interesting year. Although it looked they looked
- 2:18about the same as my fantasy team.
- 2:20So, well, the Niners Is didn't start Trail ants in the second
- 2:25half and it's like people, like all he doesn't look good.
- 2:28He looks shaky. It's like he had no script, he
- 2:30had no first team preps, he had nothing.
- 2:33He scored 14 points against Seattle.
- 2:36I feel good about that your fantasy doing great.
- 2:41You know, I got lucky the first two weeks of fantasy season.
- 2:44I couldn't barely break a hundred Brock take W is, and
- 2:48then last two weeks, I'm starting to put the points
- 2:50together. People are getting healthy.
- 2:52I'm finding the right. Mix of the line up, boys, and
- 2:55eat it. There you go.
- 2:58I'm sitting in the bottom third right now.
- 3:02I'm kind of hanging in there by thread right now.
- 3:05I just got to get my running backs healthy, you know, weird
- 3:09piece, we're in the same league, everybody, you, and several
- 3:15other people who were in the semis Is last year or just at
- 3:20the bottom. It's got nothing to do with
- 3:23draft position like, no, because it's been bad luck.
- 3:27Well, you told me the other day. Ryan texted, me.
- 3:31You were like, dude, I now know exactly what you went through,
- 3:34until Johnny concerning injuries and I'm like, I even got the Joe
- 3:38Mixon thing going on. Like, I'm just a half of
- 3:40parallels, I just gave one running back healthy.
- 3:46And then Joe Mixon might miss this week.
- 3:47So one in one out. The life of fantasy football.
- 3:53Obviously folks. This week, we are going to be
- 3:55talking about the Notre Dame game here in a few minutes.
- 3:58But before we get into that, get some general things we want to
- 4:01hit on a couple Hokies notes. But Brian, let's talk about this
- 4:04for Hokies basketball, what a pickup?
- 4:07I mean, an absolute pick up getting Rodney rice to combo
- 4:12guard, out of DeMatha, not a shock there.
- 4:16Top 50 player top 10 combo guard, one of the best players
- 4:20in the state of Maryland. I mean the We don't follow
- 4:24basketball as close. A it's tough.
- 4:27If you are a Avid follower of basketball, feel free to DM us.
- 4:32You like it have a show with the penalty Corner up.
- 4:35Cast basketball version, but, you know, the team already looks
- 4:41good Mi kyung. Great pick up the coach out of
- 4:46DeMatha. Clearly get this kid.
- 4:48Now, I mean you mentioned to me, you were, you were just reading
- 4:52an article What is it? Two more?
- 4:55Guys, we can pick up and it could be best class ever.
- 4:58And that would probably be a top-15 class.
- 5:01It definitely be one of the better classes that they've had
- 5:04clown. He's the big, the big other
- 5:06Target that we're trying to pull in there.
- 5:09But I mean, this is, this is Mike Jones.
- 5:11Higher already paying dividends and he loved to see it out the
- 5:16gate. Getting a major major pick up
- 5:20like Rodney rice. Guy that's probably probably
- 5:24going to give you a lot of good quality minutes out the gate but
- 5:27isn't necessarily quite at that one and done level.
- 5:31So you probably going to get him for three years in the program
- 5:33which is going to be big as well.
- 5:36So I think that's good for the long-term and the short-term.
- 5:39So that's going to be a big pickup for us.
- 5:42Looking forward to seeing him in the maroon and orange next year.
- 5:46Absolutely. And as much as you can say with
- 5:48Mike Jones being at the Matha, You look at my Jones resume and
- 5:53how many like 16 and under teams and stuff like that.
- 5:56He's coached I think that's just him coming in and making the
- 5:59immediate impact on because this kid you know you could probably
- 6:03list the schools. He went to he probably could
- 6:05have his choice of probably any 15 or 20 schools of where he
- 6:08was. So again my mic young, Mike
- 6:13Jones tearing it up. Let me tell you who's not
- 6:16tearing it up behind, this was like story of the weekend and
- 6:20just a lad. Is Urban Meyer?
- 6:24um, I mean tearing it up in the wrong way, I guess.
- 6:28More than I will say this, right now, if he had any thoughts
- 6:33about going back to Collegiate football, that's never going to
- 6:36happen again. And honestly, once he gets fired
- 6:41from Jackson, that's probably it.
- 6:43Because I don't think what he did in that bar, and it's not so
- 6:48much 20, he was in a bar drinking.
- 6:50It's like the pitch. The video that came out
- 6:53yesterday. And what he did, that's it, like
- 6:56you like are you really going to hire a guy and put him around
- 7:00coeds? Obviously, there's going to be
- 7:03female trainers, female student, I mean, Louisville might be, oh,
- 7:10you know, they do, but but I mean, what a shit show that he
- 7:17is, it's been at every stop. It's, you know, it's been a lot
- 7:24of questionable things. Whether it's, you know, some of
- 7:28the things that were swept under the rug in Florida, whether it's
- 7:32in how he left that situation, some of the things that got
- 7:37pushed to the side and swept under the rug and Ohio State,
- 7:41and how we left a gap. Like this guy doesn't do himself
- 7:44any favors when it comes to The public relations of the
- 7:50universities in programs that he works with.
- 7:53Yeah. Usually it takes about a year or
- 7:55two for it to start to you know come to come to a head here, we
- 7:59got it, you know, four weeks into the season.
- 8:03So what I'll do less than that though because the higher in
- 8:07the, the old Iowa, what strength coordinator was immediately like
- 8:12this guy got fired. Oh yeah yeah that'd be that.
- 8:15That was hurting you hurting their.
- 8:17Then I'm going to have to And then I'm going to put Tim Tebow
- 8:20as one of my 90 where it's like, okay, you're really not taking
- 8:23this seriously. Tim Tebow has been out of
- 8:24football for six years. Why are you putting him on your
- 8:28team? So it's a complete joke.
- 8:31Again, I think because of this incident and whether it be USC
- 8:37pens, whoever If you seriously go approach and say we're going
- 8:42to hire him, like okay immediately it's like you're a
- 8:46joke of a program because of that incident in general along
- 8:50with all the other excess baggage.
- 8:52So I think he's preferably I think it's done.
- 8:54I think his TV career is over 2 because again doing this type of
- 8:58stuff and getting busted he's done and maybe it's a good
- 9:02thing. Yeah.
- 9:04And you know at least if nothing else we got the solid Urban
- 9:08Cowboy Meme out of this thing because yes, that was sent me
- 9:13man that one sent me. So I was like absolutely great
- 9:18chefs kiss Chef sky. So Braun last Saturday night.
- 9:24You're sitting there probably like me why can't some of the
- 9:26late game? Probably twittering and you're
- 9:30thinking about game day where they'll go next?
- 9:32Because this is the week. We thought you know if we can
- 9:35somehow get 4 and 0 and Notre Dame gets 25 and 0.
- 9:38Tennessee, game day comes here. We lose West Virginia.
- 9:42They lose Cincinnati last week, in your sitting here looking.
- 9:45It's like, well, they're going to Iowa.
- 9:47It's going to be two top, four teams.
- 9:50Yeah, instead, we're going the Red River.
- 9:53Shootout. Hmm.
- 9:56And I set their Brawn the 90th time, but not before, you know,
- 10:05you taking the sum of the times, the mid 2000's and even the
- 10:09later, part of the 2000s, they were usually in the top five.
- 10:12It made sense, at least one of them was right, at least one of
- 10:16them was well back mid 2000's. Yeah, mid-2000s Consistently a
- 10:21top five, top eight match up. Exactly.
- 10:24And I mean that this is probably the the year where both teams
- 10:29collectively are ranked the lowest, right?
- 10:32Both crank the lowest boat, not both not looking good.
- 10:35Texas is 21 Oklahoma's hanging on to a top five team, but if
- 10:40they're a top five team, then you know, we're a top 15 team.
- 10:45That's just the way I feel about that.
- 10:46Just they've won every game, but it's been ugly, LeBron.
- 10:49I did more digging. And do you realize how much the
- 10:56new ESPN SEC? Contract is per team?
- 11:01I would say, it's very healthy. Assignments.
- 11:04One of the figures but I think it's very healthy.
- 11:07It's almost 70 million dollars. Okay, you know what?
- 11:11It was just a few years ago which go 55 million.
- 11:16So you're telling me that they are getting.
- 11:19What is that about? A 26% increase?
- 11:25You smell it? Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and
- 11:29just outright put this out here. I think ESPN was significantly
- 11:33behind the Which to get Texas and Oklahoma into the SEC.
- 11:38Because you look at that contract and you say, how are
- 11:41you going from mid 50's to damn near 70 million dollars?
- 11:46It's one thing they had in mind we're going to get two, great
- 11:50big ol fan bases, And they're going to come over here.
- 11:55We're going to get we can get control of the Longhorn Network.
- 12:00We don't have to compete with Fox with them anymore.
- 12:03It makes sense. So if you're the, if you're the
- 12:08Big 12, do you not lawyer up and would you ever do something you
- 12:19got to do something? Because and I'm with you, I'm
- 12:23with you. It's a, it's definitely, you
- 12:26know, there were hints that they were already scheming against
- 12:31the Big 12, and this is showing out right Market, favoritism
- 12:36towards the SEC as well. So we got kind of tooth two
- 12:39things working in tandem to really kind of fuck the Big 12
- 12:43here, right? Oh, absolutely.
- 12:46And then you're not going to Big Ten.
- 12:47And again the Big Ten, this game is on this game is on Fox at
- 12:534:00 It's not an ESPN game and if anybody who's our age, if you
- 13:00remember what Gameday used to be?
- 13:03It doesn't matter what network the game was on it did.
- 13:09They went to what was going to be one of the biggest games and
- 13:14they'll sometimes they got to midseason, they sort of
- 13:16fluctuate, they be like okay we're going to go to an ACC game
- 13:19this week and the next week we're going to go to a big 12
- 13:21game and then next week we're going to, you know, we're going
- 13:24to go a little off kilter to an FCS.
- 13:27Yeah. You know.
- 13:28And they can people can say, well as you get the late October
- 13:31and early November, some of those matchups usually have one
- 13:34in every conference that you can really make a good case for you
- 13:38know. Once you get towards Halloween
- 13:40and then pretty much the entire month of November.
- 13:43So the it does get harder than but we're still we're talking
- 13:46about the first week in October here.
- 13:48We're talking about a clear-cut case that are getting, is not
- 13:52the better game. It's not it's not even
- 13:54negotiable in terms of where they're ranked and their resume,
- 13:58all the things that you want to talk about.
- 14:01There's, you know, it's an even the Nay.
- 14:05I mean, Penn State is, is still a big name in terms of The fan
- 14:09base travels how they show up all that stuff.
- 14:13So there's still some marking names there, Iowa has become a
- 14:17really good kind of secondary. Yep, you know, smaller game day
- 14:24atmosphere in the last half decade or so, we were or a
- 14:29little bit even before that. So, yeah, that would have been a
- 14:33good choice. But, you know, we get to see
- 14:38Texas and Oklahoma. Again you know we'll get to talk
- 14:42about all the all the fun things that comes along with that but
- 14:46it just seemed like a missed opportunity, massive missed
- 14:50opportunity. But you know it is what it is.
- 14:55Well alright ESPN is really kind of started to cater more towards
- 15:02Certain sectors, anyway, and it's really sad, where ESPN is
- 15:08gone with anything that isn't there live sports presentations
- 15:12and even then, I mean, you can tell who's getting the second
- 15:15tier equipment and all that shit.
- 15:18Now, it's really nice. Well, you could well, not as
- 15:21good as last year, was the ACC networks videos compared to this
- 15:29year because last year, some of that, Stuff was grainy.
- 15:33It was very very yuck. Now this year it looks like they
- 15:38are getting the better video so maybe it was just covid.
- 15:42It's still just very fishy. All right, folks will announce
- 15:46something. If for the next month, you see
- 15:50me in Brian's head? Brian will be Stevie Ready Set
- 15:53Go. You do.
- 15:56We do this, which we will be doing a lot of playoff baseball
- 15:59here from one currently St. Louis La 11 Brian's beloved
- 16:06Bravo's. Are in the, I'll be starting
- 16:08what Friday night or Friday. After just the Brew Crew is the
- 16:12Brew Crew that's going to be a heck of a matchup myself.
- 16:16My Cubbies are not there. We sold the farm.
- 16:20Thank you know. You sold it early and but you
- 16:25know No, got some return but you know, got some Red Sox, are
- 16:29there atmosphere in Fenway. Last night was electric and then
- 16:35that also stop bitching about the green monster Yankee fans.
- 16:40It's been there for a while. It's been.
- 16:45Well, you know what I kind of laugh is people were like, well,
- 16:48that ball would have been out in any other Stadium.
- 16:51It would have been close. It wasn't a guarantee or because
- 16:54he was in he was in a power. He doesn't pull down the line.
- 16:59That moment Power Alley and it was coming down, that's why I
- 17:01didn't go out. So it would have been out in
- 17:07maybe a third of the parks it would have been close and
- 17:09another third and there's probably about about a third of
- 17:12that it would have been in one try.
- 17:14So yeah so completely quit complaining about that.
- 17:19We both have the same Rudy interest tonight.
- 17:22I don't care if La has 100 plus wins and they're paying
- 17:25everybody. A million dollars.
- 17:26We hate the Cardinals if your Cardinals fan of there.
- 17:31If you're a Cardinals fan we're sorry it's just Cubs fan and
- 17:34what happened a few years ago with the Braves and the infield
- 17:37fly rule. Yeah and that was before, I mean
- 17:40historically the Cardinals have been a team that has eliminated
- 17:45the Braves in the playoffs. So the incident with infield fly
- 17:49was just sawed open wound to already a history that I really
- 17:55Unlike with that team. So Cardinals fans, nothing
- 18:00personal. Just tired, just tired of losing
- 18:04the Cardinals, in the playoffs. I don't want to see him.
- 18:07Exactly. All right, Brian.
- 18:10I threw this to you a little earlier today.
- 18:14I think I'm decided, I think that October is the number one,
- 18:21the goat Sports 1. Are you there or something?
- 18:26Competing with you? I'm absolutely there.
- 18:28I've always been there. It's just so, so much happening.
- 18:34You got, you know, NBA and hockey gearing up.
- 18:37You got baseball coming to a close college basketball, Oak
- 18:42gearing up your, in the meat of the schedule for college
- 18:46football. You got NFL, you got kind of
- 18:50the, the downswing of the golf season.
- 18:53I mean, you got a little bit of everything.
- 18:54Nothing. And it's literally going to
- 18:57starting last night in going forward.
- 19:01I don't think there will not be a live sporting event of some
- 19:05type on from now, until November like legitimately.
- 19:09I think if you look at the schedule between Collegiate
- 19:11football, pro football, baseball, and then obviously,
- 19:16it's a preseason NBA games and preseason, hockey games, and
- 19:19they'll be starting near the end of the month.
- 19:21It's like one of those. if you're out there and you're
- 19:25married, if you haven't watched many sports over the last couple
- 19:30months, Go for it, just not what watching baseball tomorrow.
- 19:36What about tomorrow night football?
- 19:38Then what baseball? Then what everyone else
- 19:41everything then, you know, Virginia Tech's playing a
- 19:45preseason game that's on the Acca but just all some Monk, the
- 19:52weather's cool them down, you go outside, you know, went to a
- 19:55neighbor's house last Saturday night had a little whiskey neat
- 20:01had to Fire pit gone. We were watching the Clemson
- 20:03game for a little while, so it's just that time of year, man.
- 20:09It's perfect. It's lovely, it's cooling down.
- 20:14You get to like pair it with some other like, good fun,
- 20:18family activity. So you kind of are off the hook
- 20:20for sitting in front of a TV. The rest of the day.
- 20:23Yeah. Actually let's get this into the
- 20:25morning, ladies and gentlemen. So we, so I can go and sit in
- 20:29front of the television, from noon to 7, O'clock depending on
- 20:32how many games you want to watch and go and go into the night.
- 20:36Exactly. And depending on the good gains
- 20:40that good game starts at nine. Like go ahead and book me for a
- 20:43good 12, 13 hours on my butt. And I'm sure with you Brian to
- 20:48lot easier to smoke in the fall. You're not.
- 20:54Yeah, it's going to be better once we move in January, but
- 20:59right now it's nice. Is because where I usually am
- 21:04smoking in the backyard gets like direct sunlight in the
- 21:07afternoon, so it gets hot even under the shade there so it'll
- 21:13be nice in the in the new house with better better shade.
- 21:17But yeah, it once it cools down in October, it gets nicer.
- 21:23We're getting into Chile season here.
- 21:26So we are officially last weekend.
- 21:30You could not last In two weekends ago you would be okay.
- 21:33Last weekend was do warm this weekend.
- 21:36What are we looking? Look whether looking like we're
- 21:39going to give you a fish oil chili score here it is going to
- 21:42be 72 it some chances of rain on Saturday okay I give that an
- 21:47a-minus few degrees cooler would be an A but a - really cook
- 21:52usually under seven is perfect but under 70 is perfect.
- 21:55You can get away with under 75 if it's raining it.
- 21:59And that's, that's what here in the RV.
- 22:01VA and it's looking like that up in Blacksburg to Brian.
- 22:04So let's turn over a couple Hokies Notes From The Four
- 22:08Winds, a press conference. There was no update on Silas
- 22:11tansy and basically he said they're going to find out as
- 22:14they go through the week. What do you take from that?
- 22:19Sounds like it's day-to-day and sounds like they are preparing
- 22:23this week as if they don't have him and we'll adjust
- 22:27accordingly. If he is available, you don't
- 22:29think it's gamesmanship where it very well?
- 22:33Don't be it very well could be, but it's hard to tell with
- 22:39Wednesday though, right? Because everything is played so
- 22:42close to the chest. You can't tell when when he is
- 22:45being a little little hesitant with the truth there.
- 22:50Exactly, so hard to tell. Well, let's hope he's there
- 22:54because he is one of our best five offensive linemen.
- 22:59I think it's our Collective opinion.
- 23:01Wherever there are even if he's playing tackle or guard, he
- 23:04helps the team significantly. All right, Brian, let's talk
- 23:07about the next thing. They were talking about the
- 23:10young players and he talked about primarily the to Jalen's
- 23:13out of Virginia, down strowman and Jalen Jones out of here, out
- 23:17here, in the 804 talk about they had Been close to playing, but
- 23:20they've been held back for various reasons.
- 23:22I must we know about Jones injury.
- 23:24We hadn't heard about Stroman, we saw strowman, the first game
- 23:27had not seen him since You know, wide receiver wise.
- 23:34It's like I'm not worried because the way it looks for not
- 23:37rotating guys, you know, although Justin Fuente has said,
- 23:41we need six to eight guys rotating.
- 23:43We've never rotated anymore in like 4 and when we do see it,
- 23:47the second team doesn't really get a whole lot of run when
- 23:51they're in there. They're mostly there to block
- 23:54and make way for, you know, throws to the running backs and
- 23:59tight ends or the old definitely.
- 24:02Still get the judges. We get motion.
- 24:06What strong even though it's sort of strowman.
- 24:09You feel like, because of what happened with Taylor, you feel
- 24:13like starting was pushing too deep and then you saw him quite
- 24:17a number of special teams play against North Carolina and then
- 24:19he's been out. The kid has a head for football.
- 24:23I think if nothing else even as good as his special teams has
- 24:26been hitting him back and just getting him some reps.
- 24:29In some way you're going to just quickly.
- 24:32We develop him and obviously, what the safety position.
- 24:35Depth-wise long term. Yeah, and I think, you know, in
- 24:38terms of front end, I think we're okay there, we don't need
- 24:42him to be there, but having him, there would definitely give us a
- 24:46little bit more cushion and obviously probably, you know,
- 24:50push forward his development as well, which I think is important
- 24:53for the long-term abso-freaking-lutely.
- 24:56All right, Brian. The next comments.
- 25:00Oh buddy. So, Justin Fuente decided to say
- 25:05they must tailor make this offense to have success in any
- 25:08mentions about getting the running game going and he has to
- 25:11find ways to get Playmakers involved.
- 25:15I'm gonna go on this one first. Yep.
- 25:18You have Middle Tennessee, State, and you had Richmond to
- 25:21do that. Against Middle Tennessee.
- 25:25State has Brian stated, you went so vanilla and then it gets
- 25:30Richmond, more vanilla. So to me no you don't.
- 25:36You don't because if you wanted to try to get people involved
- 25:39and try to tailor, make an offense, your to lesser
- 25:42opponents, who would have less chance to win a game.
- 25:46Even if you made some mistakes, you chose not to Yeah, it's
- 25:55really weird statement and this has been something historically
- 25:57that we've seen with this team, right?
- 26:00Yeah. We kind of saw new wrinkles and
- 26:03changes being made, you know after Duke before Miami in 2019
- 26:10we've seen this staff, typically make these wholesale changes of
- 26:16how we're approaching the offense going into games that
- 26:20are big Not those tune-ups, it's something something that
- 26:24matters, either in that, in terms of the coastal or
- 26:27something that matters in terms of the program perception.
- 26:30And not just, you know, take Taking games, like, as you said
- 26:34Richmond, Middle, Tennessee, State to really kind of smooth
- 26:37out the edges. We haven't taken advantage of
- 26:40that and then we've had to hope that we're doing it on the Fly
- 26:43against better competition, which is strange because Playing
- 26:49off of that. We've played down to lesser
- 26:52competition, and play up to the competition in games that we
- 26:57thought. You know, we there we were at
- 26:59least a 50% chance of losing if not more.
- 27:03So it's really interesting how they approach this because of
- 27:06that history as well. It's very true man.
- 27:10And again, you hate trying to make any wholesale changes going
- 27:14into this game especially and then going back out of season
- 27:19when you had those games. And again, when I hear Taylor me
- 27:23in an offense, I will not believe it until I see it.
- 27:26Yep. Mom leave until I see it because
- 27:30you're now selling me the empty bill of goods.
- 27:34Oh, we're going to tailor, make it 0 best passing game ever,
- 27:37dude. I just, I don't believe you
- 27:38anymore. Like, until you show me on the
- 27:41field and whether it, whether some of those comments are
- 27:46trying to gas up players that you think are listening to what
- 27:50you're saying during these pressors versus actually talking
- 27:53to the media. Like, at some point.
- 27:58You know, you're losing the fans Goodwill as your gassing up,
- 28:03these players that you think you're helping.
- 28:06But doing so, because we're not seeing anything.
- 28:09Yeah, we're not seeing, there's not either a visible change of
- 28:14something. Different happening on the
- 28:16offense, a something verbalized to us saying well fans Weiss is
- 28:21going to call the plays so it's nothing visual.
- 28:24It's nothing verbal, it's just or, you know, oh we're going to
- 28:29Let's go away. Find that.
- 28:32Yeah. Define it.
- 28:33What are you Taylor making? What are you doing?
- 28:36Are you actually going to throw the ball?
- 28:38Are you actually going to do things different?
- 28:40Because you know, I can't take your work.
- 28:44I can't take your word anymore. Yeah we'll stick it at that.
- 28:47All right. Something that somebody brought
- 28:49up. I wish I could remember the poor
- 28:50who asked a question about playing in the big games because
- 28:54we have played into very big game this year you and see you
- 28:57know prompt Time 6:00 packed Stadium.
- 29:02It was one of the three best games of that.
- 29:04We opening weekend, and the West Virginia game of that weekend.
- 29:08You know, 12 o'clock game. You know, FS1.
- 29:13Lot of publicity about it hostile atmosphere.
- 29:17Yeah. So, you know, the point was made
- 29:20that, yes, it, this is actually good for the team going into
- 29:22this game because again, it's a sellout.
- 29:25You're going to have the stadium, absolutely jam-packed.
- 29:28It's going to be loud. You know what?
- 29:31She was on ABC, colleague would be on ABC if they hadn't forced
- 29:37this to the ACC Network because they're showing their doing
- 29:41Nebraska Michigan and you know we only can get Notre Dame a
- 29:47couple times a year. I think they would have thrown
- 29:49them on ABC because they know it's going to do a number.
- 29:54By the way, how are you watching the game?
- 29:56Since it's not on, you know, it's only if you see network I
- 30:00am signing into my father. My father-in-law's Verizon FiOS
- 30:06account to watch it again. Nah, you don't have Hulu, Hulu,
- 30:14has it all. I've got ESP n plus but they you
- 30:19don't get the ACC Network. Proper you just get a sec
- 30:22Network extra really? Yeah.
- 30:25Okay. For the was it 23 million
- 30:29people? That would Comcast, which I
- 30:31think 17 or 18 of them. Are all these goes, call your
- 30:36cable subscriber and tell them to just get the SEC network, or
- 30:41do with everybody else. There's been so many people wise
- 30:45cable losing customers things like this.
- 30:49So super interesting big time. All right, well Brian before we
- 30:53jump into knowing the enemy, he knowing the Irish we are going
- 30:57to take a quick pause or message from our digital partners.
- 31:03As we take a quick break, we'd like to tell you about getting
- 31:06your free website report from our digital partner, Grassroots,
- 31:09digital marketing Studio. They'll tell you how your
- 31:12website ranks on Google on-site, SEO and social media.
- 31:15No commitment to buy anything. You can get your free report by
- 31:19visiting. Grassroots digital studio.com
- 31:22forward slash free Dash website, Dash report.
- 31:26Now back to the episode. All right Brian let's start it
- 31:29off. You know the enemy we're going
- 31:31to jump on the offensive side of the ball.
- 31:33And let's start, let's start the offensive line because there has
- 31:36been some struggles, their form and Brian.
- 31:39Here's some of the data I've got for you.
- 31:41They are out of 130 teams. They are 128, insects allowed,
- 31:46they're averaging over four and a half per game, and they're
- 31:50losing close to 25 yards. Again, it's that is a big
- 31:54number. Regardless of the number of
- 31:56sacks tackles for loss allowed. They're 129 out of 130.
- 32:05No judge. Yeah.
- 32:07Just about nine and a half per game allowed, and right at 36
- 32:12yards. So, this team's losing behind
- 32:16the line of scrimmage close to 60 yards a game.
- 32:19I mean, that's insane. What is to take telling you?
- 32:21Brian. The tape is telling me that the
- 32:25interior that offensive line is giving up a ton of penetration
- 32:28and the tackles are only average at Best in past Pro.
- 32:33So they're getting their mostly in Mobile quarterback sacked a
- 32:37lot and they are making their running backs up to run the hump
- 32:43and get outside in the alley because the only weird place
- 32:46they're gaining positive. Yardage is when they are able to
- 32:49get to the outside alley. They are not getting hardly
- 32:52anything up the gut. Yeah, probably across the board.
- 32:57I mean, big-time tackles for loss and they're not allowing
- 33:02their backs to really We get to the second level in the middle
- 33:04of the of the offense, and that's a big problem because
- 33:09that means that they're their backs are having to run,
- 33:11laterally, way more than they should in the running game.
- 33:18Yeah. And it makes sense, right?
- 33:20I mean they lost three NFL lineman, you know, Liam
- 33:24eichenberg when the second round and Banks went in the second
- 33:27round, the guard and Robert Haynes doing in the fourth round
- 33:31most teams. Even the really, really teams
- 33:33that recruit at the level they recruit at when you lose that
- 33:37kind of experience and talent and guys, who are getting
- 33:40evaluated and getting drafted that you don't replace it.
- 33:44I think it's interesting. Brian, you talk about the
- 33:47rushing? Numbers.
- 33:48Like, I like how bad is that? I mean, are they even cracking
- 33:51100 a game? Now, they're averaging one of us
- 33:57e 2.7 yards per carry. Oh, they're making us look good.
- 34:02It's atrocious. And a lot of that is that
- 34:07negative yardage that you're talking about.
- 34:11They're you know, they're not getting thrown for a 1-yard loss
- 34:15and then they're throwing a Of yard gain on top of that,
- 34:19they're getting thrown for a five or six yard loss and then
- 34:22throwing a 7-yard gain on it. So the net is pretty bad and
- 34:28it's trickling down and you know when you don't have a
- 34:32quarterback that can move around a lot that's not opening up any
- 34:37other lanes. For those rushers to really get
- 34:41to that second level route, they're really dangerous when
- 34:44they can get to the second level.
- 34:45They've just having such a hard time doing it right now.
- 34:47Now I hear you and you already mentioned the quarterback a
- 34:51couple times. They're in a true debacle right
- 34:53now. Brian, you've got the 63, 220 63
- 34:57star Jack cone, the Wisconsin transfer, he's got solid
- 35:01numbers, through five games, 1,100 yards, 9 touchdowns, three
- 35:04interceptions, 60 percent completion.
- 35:07His best game was clearly out of the gate against FSU in that
- 35:10shootout. You mentioned him being a
- 35:15mobile. Obviously if he was So a mobile
- 35:18that he's getting killed. Why is he still the quarterback?
- 35:20What is he bringing to the table something.
- 35:24So the big thing he's bringing to the table, is he can make all
- 35:27the throws, he's got the arm and he is definitely.
- 35:31The more polished the more seasoned, the more experienced
- 35:35player of the the big to we'll talk about Pine here in a few
- 35:41minutes. Yeah.
- 35:42And he's and he's the known quantity, he's the safer choice
- 35:45and I feel like that's kind of where they are.
- 35:47They are especially with their struggles, on the offensive
- 35:49line. They kind of went with the safer
- 35:52Choice, thinking that would kind of buoy them a little bit.
- 35:55Despite his shortcomings with his athleticism.
- 35:59Yeah. It makes sense too because a
- 36:01couple years ago at Wisconsin, before he got overtaken, he had
- 36:05a solid season had like twenty three touchdowns to like nine
- 36:08interceptions 62 percent completion percentage.
- 36:11It was like okay this makes sense.
- 36:15And then, you know, last week, Drew Prime.
- 36:18The 511 200 pound four star. He gets some significant playing
- 36:23time and it was on top of a game after the Wisconsin game where
- 36:27he got some time there too. You know so far only include
- 36:32completing 50 percent of his passes on for 224 yards and a
- 36:35couple touchdowns but clearly if watching that Cincinnati game
- 36:39when he came in he was a spark, he has a spark, he got them back
- 36:43in that game. What do you see on the tape from
- 36:46him? I mean he's not the elite
- 36:50athlete but he's a significant upgrade in athleticism from cone
- 36:54morion book for it. Okay, yeah.
- 36:58Yeah you know he's not going to be a that guy that's going out
- 37:02there and completely tearing you up.
- 37:04But he's, you know, he'll get first downs.
- 37:07He'll scramble, you can you can design runs to him and feel
- 37:11comfortable doing that. And in the passing game, he does
- 37:14throw a pretty decent deep ball. He's not super accurate in the
- 37:19intermediate and that's where a lot of his incompletions are
- 37:21coming in, okay. But when he sees guys coming
- 37:24open in the in the back of the defense he does a good job of
- 37:29getting the ball out there to them and he still does a pretty
- 37:33good job of kind of that short passing game to the running
- 37:37backs where they can get those athletes out in space.
- 37:40All right, let me ask this Braun when you when you were looking
- 37:43at the tape with him. Was he much quicker?
- 37:47Because obviously we're showing here and the tape showing the
- 37:51debt, the stats are showing, is he quicker to just as soon as
- 37:54the line breaks down, is he immediately moving getting out
- 37:58the pocket trying to do something?
- 38:01Or she staying in there a little longer he, when he is
- 38:06comfortable with the play, he will stay in there longer.
- 38:10When, even, if there is pressure bearing down when he isn't as
- 38:16comfortable with, The play as soon as that first read isn't
- 38:19there. He's willing to take off if he
- 38:20feels any sort of pressure, so it's really kind of a mixed bag.
- 38:24A lot of times when it says, throw that he's comfortable
- 38:27with, he'll hang in there to try to make it.
- 38:30But, I mean, based on the depth chart that Notre Dame put out
- 38:34there, it looks like cone is still the number one guy will
- 38:36see how many, how long that lasts, how quick the hook is and
- 38:42what, or whether they end up mixing in Pine with comb
- 38:46through. Out the game.
- 38:47Like, we've seen a couple of other teams do against the so
- 38:50far. All right.
- 38:51Let me ask this, Brian just straight-up.
- 38:53What's your preference for Saturday night?
- 38:55Who takes, who do you want to take an 85, or 90 percent of
- 38:57snaps? I won't cone.
- 38:59I want, you know, because he's the known quantity, he's the guy
- 39:03that we've got the most tape on. And he's also the guy that if we
- 39:07can, hold their running game and check, we can make a very
- 39:11one-dimensional offense. All right.
- 39:15Yeah, I'm with you on that. And also just from hearing from
- 39:18the different beat reporters throughout the week.
- 39:23In South Bend, it looks like they're going to go to Jack comb
- 39:26route. How quick is the hook?
- 39:28I think that's going to be very interesting to see.
- 39:32Although with J Hamm, I think you would make a quick
- 39:34adjustment. I don't think we'd have to wait
- 39:36for two and a half or three quarters, but the other piece
- 39:40too is, you know, is go back to the offensive line.
- 39:43But also So Pine, if you decide to throw five, offensive
- 39:47linemen, who have never been in an atmosphere, like it's going
- 39:50to be Saturday night. And then you three quarterback,
- 39:54In an atmosphere like it's going to be Saturday night.
- 39:57At least you can say with cone. Well, you know, he played some
- 40:02Big Ten teams he played in tough environments, he's got that
- 40:06going for him. So do you want five guys or
- 40:10three guys who have played in tough environments or do you
- 40:13want six guys who've never played in a tough environment.
- 40:16Yeah yeah and Cone cone definitely has played in games
- 40:21that matter in atmospheres like that before.
- 40:25More than likely something. That was, that would be akin to
- 40:27Beaver Stadium. I would imagine big house.
- 40:31I can't remember how many games he played in, whether he saw
- 40:36both the stadiums, but he's definitely having to have that
- 40:39big 10 resume. He's definitely played in at
- 40:41least one stadium. That will have something in the
- 40:45ballpark of what Lane will offer.
- 40:47So he's probably the better better choice in terms of being
- 40:51able to handle that type of environment.
- 40:54The Horseshoe and, and then the Sea of red down in Nebraska
- 40:59tokenism, who big ones. So and he also played in a Rose
- 41:04Bowl atmosphere. So, um, yeah.
- 41:07Alright Braun. Lets Roll onto this.
- 41:10You mentioned those running back a couple times.
- 41:12They're not looking to the best so far this year.
- 41:15But man, we know that they are dangerous and I want to start
- 41:19with the one-two punch. Let's start with kind.
- 41:24Eames 59, 199 pounds or Star. So far this year to .89 289
- 41:31yards, 3.8 per carry and three touchdowns.
- 41:34Also, 174 receiving yards, 12.4 perception with two touchdowns
- 41:41and I tell you last year, man. 1,400 yards from scrimmage hell
- 41:46of a year. What is he bringing to the table
- 41:49of this one? Two punch with him and Chris
- 41:51Tyree. Yeah, he's the more Shifty
- 41:55running back and probably a hair better in the passing game, then
- 42:00Tyree great use of patience. When running the outside Zone,
- 42:05kind of lets things set up and then kind of gets in the alley
- 42:09and can make us miss at the second level and does a really
- 42:12good job of catching the ball out of the Outfield and kind of
- 42:15hitting home runs that way. Good Vision in the open, feel to
- 42:20turn a small gain into a big one for that offense.
- 42:23Ants. Nice and obviously the second
- 42:28guy of this one-two punches, a guy if you're a hockey fan to
- 42:33hook you and you should be familiar with them.
- 42:34If you're here in the RV with us you should be super familiar
- 42:37with them. Chris Tyree out of Thomas Dale
- 42:40in the r-va here or Star. He was the top all-purpose back.
- 42:45When he came out, he was a top 75 player.
- 42:48He was a top-five player in Virginia.
- 42:50One of those we missed on. Yep. 59 and a half hundred
- 42:54ninety. Pounds a triple threat to me.
- 42:59Haven't got that many carries this year 98 yards with a
- 43:02touchdown. 117 yards in the passing game with a touchdown
- 43:08and then to 38 in the kick return game with a touchdown.
- 43:12He's averaging almost 30 per kick return.
- 43:15So we see another Elite kick returner, which is becoming this
- 43:20very, very worrisome, as good as its played and you know last
- 43:26year thousand all-purpose yards. 4 touchdowns on he's fast.
- 43:32Like super fun. Yes.
- 43:35Yeah. He's definitely fast.
- 43:37He's more the one cut back and go.
- 43:40He's got speed for days. Once he gets to the The second
- 43:43level can really affect the game in the return game.
- 43:46I know he did fumble a kickoff return against Cincinnati that
- 43:52set them up for a field goal to make it a 10 nothing game there
- 43:56but you know when he when he gets them in there he's doing a
- 44:00lot of good things with a football setting them up and
- 44:03pretty good field position in the kick return game and he is
- 44:08also very dangerous in the passing game much like Does a
- 44:13good job in the open field. He has that Vision which you
- 44:16expect from a guy that is also a kick returner, right?
- 44:19Getting the ball in the open field and be able to read those
- 44:21blocks in space. So, in terms of Home Run threat,
- 44:26he's a little bit more of the Home Run threat.
- 44:28But isn't as much of a impact For You Down by down just
- 44:34because it is a little bit of more little bit more feast or
- 44:36famine with him because of his run Style.
- 44:41Absolutely and again it's just one of those guys that it's a
- 44:45pain to see and especially it's more of a pain to see you and
- 44:48you when he says, I can't wait to smell Virginia Air and play
- 44:52in that stadium. That always is a little just you
- 44:56just ripped it out. Just ripped out the heart.
- 44:59Chris don't say things like that.
- 45:01Yeah. I mean, you look at saying if
- 45:03you love if he was saying it, you know, as a hokey and not
- 45:09visiting from bashing. So I mean when we first started
- 45:13this podcast we they had just kind of closed on that class and
- 45:18we talked we talked about how that was a big Miss for us and
- 45:22you know, we're seeing that kind of come to fruition here, you
- 45:27know, with him having some success, good success, as a
- 45:29freshman, and even with a completely shoddy offensive
- 45:35line, still being able to make some plays here.
- 45:37And there in this offense this year Yeah, so that's to me,
- 45:41that's the big thing is we've kind of correlated that
- 45:44offensive lines bad, but if you give one of these guys or both,
- 45:47these guys are Kris, they can make you pay.
- 45:50So you know we'll discuss some of those points later.
- 45:54All right? Brian this guy.
- 45:56Jesus Lord their top receiving threat.
- 45:59Michael Mayer. The tight end.
- 46:00The 2025 star. S.
- 46:04Tightening the country. Top 25 player.
- 46:06He 64 hes 249. I looked at some of his when he
- 46:11was at the, the showcases runs like a low 48, his shuttle
- 46:16drills are pretty much, those Elite like what you see in FL
- 46:21tight ends do and then obviously his size, he's built like a
- 46:26prototypical paid in. He's like 19.
- 46:29You know, so far this year, 360 yards, three touchdowns 11.3 per
- 46:34catch, again, leading the both in yards and receptions.
- 46:39He could be a big problem even if we are able to create
- 46:43pressure and he, yeah, and he's the guy that's we with the
- 46:47sticks for them. You know, they try to do the
- 46:50short passing game with the running backs.
- 46:52And then hit Mike. Mayor on some stick movie where
- 46:56out And I think the big thing that he brings to the table.
- 47:02Is like you said, a good combination of above average
- 47:06speed for a tight end, at the Collegiate level paired with the
- 47:10typical NFL size and that's going to be something that we've
- 47:15got to keep in check because we want to be able to get this team
- 47:19off the field and he's the guy that it's extends drives for
- 47:21them and the receivers they are. They're solid, but they are more
- 47:30they'll you know they'll hit them on like a 20 or 30 yard
- 47:33play and then they disappear for a quarter.
- 47:37This is the guy that you've got to worry about down by down
- 47:39series by series every time they're on the field essentially
- 47:44whether it'd probably be calling our Pine.
- 47:45They're going to be looking for him it's probably their first
- 47:48read. Every time is going to be
- 47:49wherever he's going. He's either the primary threat
- 47:54or he is the 100% secondary route, no matter what the
- 47:59primary this let me ask this, just looking at the tape.
- 48:04Is he primarily in line? Are we going to see him at
- 48:07several positions? He's going to line up all over
- 48:10the offense, they'll split them out.
- 48:11They'll put him in the wing, they'll put him in line, you
- 48:15know, they'll even move him into the backfield on occasion.
- 48:18So, he'll line up all over the field, they try to find creative
- 48:20ways to get him out. And where you can't just jam it
- 48:24off the line of scrimmage to get him off his route.
- 48:26So that's going to be something we need to definitely focus on
- 48:30and make sure that we don't die a death by a Thousand Cuts and
- 48:34that they keep their offense on the field for four long extended
- 48:37drives. And when that time of possession
- 48:39some we can't do and I just hate using the word creative with
- 48:46somebody else's offense and not ours, but I digress.
- 48:50All right, we're going to roll on guys and now.
- 48:51We're going to look at the defense and, you know, let's
- 48:54just be straight up. If you are Virginia Tech Hokies
- 48:58fan and you don't know who Marcus screaming is, you
- 49:00probably haven't been paying attention.
- 49:04He is a super up-and-comer in the world of the Collegiate
- 49:06football coaching ranks. He's a former Buckeye.
- 49:10He only played one year in the NFL back in 2009, for a couple
- 49:14teams because essentially in the offseason and 2010, they
- 49:18discovered he had an enlarged heart, he had to retire and not
- 49:22long after that, he started the coaching ranks started as a grad
- 49:26assistant back. Has State then been coaching
- 49:29linebackers. Kent State worked his way up.
- 49:32Got to Purdue have to be a co-defensive coordinator.
- 49:35And then, obviously, over the last few years, with another
- 49:38Buckeye, Luke fickle down at Cincinnati where last year, they
- 49:43were one of the, you know, one of the best teams all around the
- 49:46country. In the defense, he created
- 49:49brine. They were a thin points per
- 49:51game. There are 15,000 yards, they
- 49:52were 11th and boisterous forced turnovers.
- 49:55They were Elite. Lost a close game to Georgia and
- 49:59then essentially got snatched away by Notre Dame and Brian
- 50:05Kelly. And I'm Kelly said that he hopes
- 50:09that he's the next coach there. I hope he's not What are you
- 50:13seeing from him schematically though?
- 50:16Brian, we've got the story behind who he is.
- 50:18What is he doing on the field? Yeah, so when he was at
- 50:24Cincinnati they ran a slightly different system than what
- 50:27they're doing. Now, you know, some of that is
- 50:31just preference. Bye bye.
- 50:32Kelly. Some of that is Personnel that
- 50:35you don't quite have to to make a wholesale transition but
- 50:40they're still running kind of a 4 to 5 but they Are going more
- 50:43of that multiple front. Look, that Freeman was famous
- 50:49for at Cincinnati with occasionally getting that that
- 50:54dollar that 326 look up front. But the base defense is still a
- 51:00425. They run a lot a lot of cover 1
- 51:05and cover three on the back end, they're very much likes to with
- 51:12that. You said it reminded you yeah
- 51:15reminds at least on the back end reminds me some of Bud in terms
- 51:19of how they like to work their coverages and then mix that with
- 51:24blitz packages. All right.
- 51:27What terms of just philosophy? You know it since I just said
- 51:30you know, but it's an aggressive philosophy and their goal is to,
- 51:35you know, really clog the A and B gaps on both sides of the
- 51:38offense and kind of force everything in to see Gap in the
- 51:40running game. And you in terms of the passing
- 51:44game, they're coming after you and try to make you make
- 51:46mistakes and and get some turnovers there.
- 51:49So they do a good job on the back, end of keeping things in
- 51:54front of them, their corners. Aren't Elite, but they do a good
- 51:59job of not like getting beat deep very often.
- 52:04Now, when you talk about A and B is going to see, this is what
- 52:06bud? You should talk about spill
- 52:08Lanes, right? You want it to spill outside but
- 52:10we are allowing the fast guys to get there versus just punishing
- 52:15you up the middle. Yep.
- 52:17Exactly. Yep.
- 52:19That your funneling everything to the spill Lanes that's where
- 52:22you got your. Usually you have your in the
- 52:27Older system. The whip, the Rover can make the
- 52:29play there your your, your backer is there as well.
- 52:34So that that's generally the idea of trying to force
- 52:37everything to those spill Lanes. Absolutely.
- 52:40I said, let's talk about some of these guys.
- 52:41Brian. Because, you know, somebody, you
- 52:44know, the Virginia guy, they had to replace Jeremiah who sue
- 52:47Kimora? You know, they had her place in
- 52:49and that guy was all over the place in the old system.
- 52:51And I think because of how They're running this new system,
- 52:57there they found that guy who was already a proven starter and
- 53:01Kyle Hamilton you know, 64, 220, you know, safety. 20:25 star.
- 53:09He was the top safety in the country top 15 overall and so
- 53:15far this year, twenty seven tackles two tackles for loss
- 53:18three interceptions. I'm assuming he's everywhere.
- 53:24Yeah he's everywhere. I mean he's technically He's
- 53:27listed as a free safety but they use him in just about every way
- 53:31that you can use a defensive back.
- 53:35He's at free. He's at their strong safety,
- 53:40sometimes. He's in the nickel.
- 53:42He plays their equivalent of the whip which they actually call
- 53:45Rover. He kind of, does it all on the
- 53:49back end there and And really solid tackler, but really great
- 53:54and coverage, both Zone and man uses his length really well and
- 54:02does a good job. When he gets his hands on
- 54:06receivers in ball carries, getting them to the ground as
- 54:08well. So keep an eye on him.
- 54:11He He had some of the sound bites.
- 54:14I think this week with what the referee was saying on a would
- 54:18look like a blatant hold against him on.
- 54:21I think a quarterback scramble last week ref said something
- 54:25about. You know you're at all American
- 54:27you can't get blocked or something like that or you can't
- 54:30get held. So he was in the, he was in the
- 54:33headlines this week, making a comment on that.
- 54:36So keep an eye out and see what what he does this week, but he's
- 54:40definitely one that we've got to account for.
- 54:44Every snap because he's going to he's going to make some plays.
- 54:48All right, let me let me just look for a little bit behind
- 54:52because obviously, he'll have one more year of Eligibility.
- 54:55After this, he's going to be his size, his length, whatever he's
- 55:01going to be a first-round safety and he which is very few and far
- 55:04between. Yeah, he's if he's not he's
- 55:08definitely a early day to guy. He's going to be one of the
- 55:14first to two safeties off the board more than likely.
- 55:18So, all right, definitely keep an eye out for him because he
- 55:21is, he's a playmaker. All right, well, let's now
- 55:26something you talked about earlier, Braun, you talked about
- 55:29how Marcus screaming loves to clog those A and B gaps in kind
- 55:36of looking through here. He's got JD Bertrand.
- 55:40First year starter at linebacker as a four-star 61 230 made a big
- 55:46impact right alligators and starter 48.
- 55:48Tackles one half sacks so far this year.
- 55:55Where is he specifically? Is he Mike, is he will.
- 55:58Is he weak side? Where is he linebacker while
- 56:01Grand? Yes.
- 56:02Oh he's will he does a lot in the in disrupting both the Run
- 56:07game and then has a good amount of coverage responsibility in
- 56:10the past game but he does a good job of disrupting the running
- 56:14game. He's the reason why they're
- 56:16really Stout against the run and he's a good tackler and
- 56:21surprisingly really he really good in coverage.
- 56:25I've seen him run with, you know, really good really fast
- 56:30running backs in coverage, really good, running with some
- 56:34of the slot receivers as well. Doesn't really look out of
- 56:40place. There he doesn't look like he's
- 56:43losing any athleticism to those guys.
- 56:45So definitely looks the part there he does.
- 56:48Sometimes lose leverage in the running game, so that's
- 56:51something. If we can get Kind of outside.
- 56:54We might be able to exploit that a little bit.
- 56:56He gave up a couple of runs where he had kind of edge
- 57:00responsibility and lost that leverage.
- 57:02So that might be a way we could take advantage of him a little
- 57:05bit but in terms of his style of play he's definitely a disrupter
- 57:09and a solid overall tackler. Excellent.
- 57:14Brian. What are the core?
- 57:16What are the core of the linebackers?
- 57:18Look, I mean is it is? Is everybody liked him door?
- 57:22They like Hamilton. You feel like there's, there's
- 57:25no weaknesses in his game Bertrand.
- 57:28You've talked about that outside run, Leverage is the linebacking
- 57:31corps. More like that, they're good.
- 57:33But they have their spots where they can be beat.
- 57:36Yeah, very much. That there are times where you
- 57:40can you can take advantage of them.
- 57:42But they're very good between the tackles.
- 57:45I hope that we can run between the tackles against them, but
- 57:48that's what they do. They do a really good job of
- 57:51kind of pushing. Everything outside is your hope
- 57:55we is your hope. We don't start by running
- 57:58between the tackles early. Yeah.
- 58:01I hope we kind of spread them out a little bit and get them
- 58:03out of that at 425 looking maybe into the more 3 to 6 and then we
- 58:08can kind of hit them in the middle, got it.
- 58:11All right well And even if we get them out of that little and
- 58:14we have to drop back to pass and the Isaiah foskey is a scary
- 58:19scary looking defensive end 65 to 60 a four-star.
- 58:25He was a top-15 defensive end when he came out.
- 58:28I mean, he's prototypical that build is a prototypical
- 58:31defensive end build, you know, really started producing this
- 58:35year. 21, tackles five, tackles for loss, five sacks in a forced
- 58:40fumble and You educate the people because you're going to
- 58:44hear this on Saturday night. They call what he plays Viper,
- 58:49which is cool. But what is it kind of aside
- 58:52from sounding cool. You know, aside from sounding
- 58:55like you're in Top Gun, Viper is essentially a hybrid defensive
- 59:02end in this system so if they're in a four-man front look, he's
- 59:06going to be the one of the Russians.
- 59:10He will play Sam line. Backer.
- 59:13In some of the other three man front looks and especially the
- 59:2032 or 33 and if they go with the like a three, four look, he will
- 59:27line up as a traditional Edge rusher there.
- 59:30So you kind of had has three hats that he wears in this
- 59:34defense and with that build. I mean he really does a good job
- 59:40of doing all of those, he's just athletic enough.
- 59:43Enough to kind of make make all that work and he does he is I'd
- 59:48say pretty heavy for a like a true Russian or Edge Defender
- 59:53but that size helps him when he slides into the linebacker role
- 59:56and is kind of running downhill. So you got to watch him.
- 1:00:01Especially, I saw him. Had he had a sack fumble against
- 1:00:06Cincinnati. He's made some other plays and
- 1:00:09some other games, so he can definitely impact the game.
- 1:00:13Mmmmm, and he impacts the game even when he's not necessarily
- 1:00:16at the football. So we got to make sure we get a,
- 1:00:20get a hat on him every time. All right, I got a quick
- 1:00:23question about when he's on that when they're in the four to five
- 1:00:28you said he's down at the end position.
- 1:00:30Is he playing like a nine technique?
- 1:00:32Or see a little closer to the offensive tackle there.
- 1:00:37So sometimes he is in a six hand in the dirt, sometimes he's in a
- 1:00:45nine handed the dirt, sometimes he's standing up.
- 1:00:47Okay, kind of kind of moving around between techniques So it
- 1:00:52really kind of depends they do it, they let him kind of
- 1:00:55freestyle a little bit, and that's one of the Hallmarks of a
- 1:00:59Freeman defense is that he trust the instincts of his players.
- 1:01:04So a lot of times, you know, you'll see them freestyle a
- 1:01:08little bit within the parameters that he set, right?
- 1:01:13Okay. So that's something to keep an
- 1:01:15eye on, as well. Got it two other guys to look
- 1:01:20out here for Brawn. I know we don't have as much
- 1:01:22info on them. Twin brothers couple Ford three
- 1:01:27stars about a New Jersey Jason and just Anatomy Ola Jason Plays
- 1:01:34defensive end I think he's a secondary Viper might play the
- 1:01:39opposite side as well and then Jason is a defensive tackle so
- 1:01:45just two other names to listen for on.
- 1:01:47Saturday night, guys, two brothers.
- 1:01:50They're all right. Brian.
- 1:01:52So last 30 minutes or so we've been talking about them.
- 1:01:56And what we've been doing every week is we've been talking about
- 1:01:59versions of the Hokies Alpha was great.
- 1:02:03Yeah, it was okay. But the last two versions
- 1:02:09hadn't, been that good. So yeah.
- 1:02:11So this week we're Epsilon in. If you I'm a nerd and the
- 1:02:18Epsilon definition is an arbitrary.
- 1:02:21Small positive quantity. Ha ha ha.
- 1:02:27Who's that? We need to win the quantity for
- 1:02:34the defense is going to be. Really solid like where they
- 1:02:38are, you know, statistically and how they've been playing for the
- 1:02:42offense who I'll take small positive versus small - right
- 1:02:47now crime because, you know, as we've been talking about it,
- 1:02:51we've got, you know, three keys here and the first thing that
- 1:02:54when we were talking the other day and you said to me, we've
- 1:02:58got to win at the point of the time we get.
- 1:03:00Freaking got a block to run the ball.
- 1:03:03Yeah, we got to be able to run the ball and like I said, I
- 1:03:06don't think necessarily attacking right into the meat of
- 1:03:08that defense. Early is the answer but we got
- 1:03:11to find effective ways to hopefully get to that spill
- 1:03:15area. But get have have blocking
- 1:03:17there. We can get up the alley and and
- 1:03:20start to get them out of their preferred look there, but I
- 1:03:24think Some of the other things that we're going to need to work
- 1:03:28in some play action because, but we need to get the running game.
- 1:03:31Going first for that to be truly effective, right?
- 1:03:34Yeah, absolutely. You know, if we, if we don't get
- 1:03:37the running game going, early play action is going to mean
- 1:03:39nothing to them because anything that he burned them pretty good
- 1:03:45because they had an effective running game.
- 1:03:47Even if it wasn't necessarily, you know, burning the world up.
- 1:03:50They were effective in the running game and they were able
- 1:03:52to hit them over the top a couple times on play action is
- 1:03:55true. So the other thing Braun, we
- 1:03:58were been talking about. You talked about scrambled
- 1:04:00drills getting now field, is this a game?
- 1:04:03You'd like to see, we hated what they did with West Virginia,
- 1:04:06running some Sprint outs, essentially where we can get,
- 1:04:11it's in a way, it's a little scramble because if he rolls out
- 1:04:13and there's nothing there and they stay disciplined, he might
- 1:04:17have beating might have 45 yards every time to just pick the
- 1:04:20angle. Go.
- 1:04:21I know you don't like cutting off a field but in this case
- 1:04:24yeah and I'd like To see when when BB escapes, the pocket kind
- 1:04:29of escaping laterally, at least initially where he can still try
- 1:04:33to make that throw down, fill in The Scrambled row because I feel
- 1:04:36like our receivers may not be open initially but I saw on tape
- 1:04:41where especially in the Cincinnati game but also against
- 1:04:44FSU where as a play kind of Drew on there were opportunities to
- 1:04:48get the ball down field in the passing game.
- 1:04:52So I think that's one way to get it going and in the short
- 1:04:55passing game is owing to be important as well because you
- 1:04:59know I think we can get them kind of moving laterally and get
- 1:05:03them. Like open that box up a little
- 1:05:05bit that will enable us to try to run between the tackles a
- 1:05:08little bit more and hopefully get some movement in there.
- 1:05:12So probably things like we saw out of the UNC game that we
- 1:05:16have, amazingly not been there as much before the little swings
- 1:05:21and stuff, through the running backs, the, the, the bubble
- 1:05:25screen, not the tunnel, the bubble.
- 1:05:28Yeah, I'm going to and run variations off that, right?
- 1:05:30So once you, once you show that, look, run some stuff, run some
- 1:05:33variations off that where they'll, you know, potentially
- 1:05:36bite on something they've seen and now something else is open.
- 1:05:40Yeah, I mean I think the short pass game is going to be
- 1:05:43critical because they they are going to, they're going to get
- 1:05:47some sacks. They're going to get us
- 1:05:50scrambling off times because they are a good defensive line.
- 1:05:54They have some solid linebacker play.
- 1:05:59And the one thing that we've talked about is and you hit it
- 1:06:02here. We didn't talk about any of the
- 1:06:03defensive backs, because in reality, none of them jumped off
- 1:06:06the tape and you've already mentioned it.
- 1:06:09They can be Gotten there. Can they be absolutely exploded?
- 1:06:12Probably not definitely not. By the way.
- 1:06:14We've been playing offense. But, you know, we've had, we've
- 1:06:17had 13 days since our last game 13 gave to self evaluate.
- 1:06:24If we don't start seeing the changes coming and they're not
- 1:06:28coming and and if you're going to say, well, we're going to win
- 1:06:31with what we've got. We're not going to win many with
- 1:06:35what we've got, because you don't have a dominant offensive
- 1:06:38line. Get that running game springing
- 1:06:42for 200 yards again. Yeah, we if we don't improve on
- 1:06:46offense, we've got enough to get us to a bowl game but we don't
- 1:06:49have enough to challenge for the coastal.
- 1:06:52I mean, if you look at the teams that are in a as good or better
- 1:06:57position than us at this point, you got to look first at at pit,
- 1:07:01right? And the thing that scares me
- 1:07:04about pit is that I'm not so much concerned that we won't be
- 1:07:08able to score some points. It's against their defense.
- 1:07:12I'm just worried about it, they keep rolling the way they are.
- 1:07:14That they'll be able to score more points on offense than we
- 1:07:17can score on offense exam that and that's not knocking our
- 1:07:20defense but if they can get to 30, that's probably enough.
- 1:07:25Yep, I agree with that. Alright, let's talk about the
- 1:07:27Epsilon version of the defense bar.
- 1:07:29And we mentioned, Tyree and Williams.
- 1:07:33I mean, we have to tackle like we did Carolina middle.
- 1:07:37Tennessee Richmond. We For we cannot afford to
- 1:07:42tackle like we did against West Virginia against those guys.
- 1:07:45Yeah. Got to bring these guys down
- 1:07:47because if they get to that next level they are dangerous.
- 1:07:52And you know I think the another thing that we need to talk about
- 1:07:55is that we need too much like a lot of teams have already
- 1:07:59against Notre Dame this year, we need to force snaps behind the
- 1:08:03line of scrimmage need to get some tackles for loss very
- 1:08:06consistently. I'd say, you know, close to a
- 1:08:09our of their total snaps need to be either a sack or some sort of
- 1:08:14tackle for loss. If we can do that then that's
- 1:08:17going to put them behind the chains and make them extremely
- 1:08:20one-dimensional and that's when they get in trouble and really
- 1:08:23they would have to lean on their tight end to kind of bail them
- 1:08:25out. Yep.
- 1:08:26And we've already talked about it.
- 1:08:28They're giving up close to about 14, tackle behind the line and
- 1:08:32Brian, you're saying about a quarter.
- 1:08:33I mean, so you're saying we've got to even go above their
- 1:08:36average and probably hit 15 15 to 18.
- 1:08:39Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:08:40Yeah, which would be a lot which would really, which would really
- 1:08:44set the game up for Waller and strong in Armani to attack is,
- 1:08:50you know, you get a second and third and 15 either either
- 1:08:54they're going to run draw and say, well your offense in going
- 1:08:57to do anything, we'll just punt it away and the last piece,
- 1:09:01Brian, I think me. And you talked about and it's
- 1:09:04what I've defensive been good at George don't matter, right?
- 1:09:10Points matter, I don't care what's matter, you've been
- 1:09:13saying, I don't care if you take it to 15 and you drive it to the
- 1:09:1730 you and yourself, you just got 55 yards but that is going
- 1:09:23to be one long field goal that goal that you're known Brian
- 1:09:29Kelly. He's not going to take the risk,
- 1:09:31go punt deep. So Drive Stoppers when they
- 1:09:35cross that Midfield, you mentioned to me.
- 1:09:37You said they cross Midfield, that's where they have stopped.
- 1:09:40Top dip and and Hamilton has done a good job of mixing in
- 1:09:47some some blitzes, or some different coverages that really
- 1:09:51throw teams off. Once they cross the 50, this
- 1:09:53year, yes he has. And so hopefully he keeps that
- 1:09:56up, where it gets us off, the field forces, a field goal, you
- 1:10:02know, whatever may be and hopefully even you know, force a
- 1:10:04turnover or a sack fumble or something like that,
- 1:10:06interception, that gets us the ball back.
- 1:10:10And they've done a good job with that this year and hopefully
- 1:10:12they keep that up against Notre Dame because they did turn the
- 1:10:15ball over against Cincinnati. So they are not a clean and
- 1:10:19perfect team with the football. So there's going to be some
- 1:10:22opportunities for the defense to get the ball back on those on
- 1:10:25those plays. Absolutely.
- 1:10:29Well, Brian, we talked about them, we've talked about us,
- 1:10:32it's time to give our predictions here.
- 1:10:34Brian, and I'll let you leave the way this week, man.
- 1:10:40You know, I feel good about this game in a lot of ways but I'm
- 1:10:44just concerned about the offense and I'm so concerned, I think
- 1:10:48that it's just going to be too much.
- 1:10:50I think it's going to be 23:14, I think we're going to struggle
- 1:10:54to really consistently, run the football and I think that's
- 1:10:58going to be our undoing. And ultimately, probably have
- 1:11:03have a turnover that really kind of, kind of puts the puts a
- 1:11:06knife in our back to close it out there.
- 1:11:08But I think it's a close. Game four for three quarters and
- 1:11:11then they kind of we finally make that mistake.
- 1:11:14They really gets them the double-digit advantage there at
- 1:11:17the end. Yeah, I'm not far behind you.
- 1:11:20I put it close. I do put Notre Dame, winning
- 1:11:23this game 2117, and for me it's just the, the offensive eyes I
- 1:11:30tested. We're failing it in every way in
- 1:11:33the statistics prove it and you can say, well, we're just
- 1:11:36missing one or two passes. One or two passes.
- 1:11:39Don't Make you almost, you know, one of the basically, the
- 1:11:46quarter worst teams in the country of Italy, they don't, if
- 1:11:49you want to argue that point, that it's just a pass here.
- 1:11:52Just one run Lane if you cut this way?
- 1:11:54No, no. If you were 50th.
- 1:11:58Yes, one or two passes. Put you in the top 25 one or two
- 1:12:02passes, doesn't bring you from being terrible to being a really
- 1:12:06good offense. It just doesn't.
- 1:12:09And I I think what I think it's going to be bronzed.
- 1:12:12I think our defense are going to probably play their asses off.
- 1:12:15I think that crowds going to be electric.
- 1:12:16I don't think they're going to have a tough time hearing
- 1:12:19they're going to probably have some false start penalties but I
- 1:12:22think what's probably going to happen is where one time you
- 1:12:28know I think defense is going to put us in good positions and
- 1:12:31their defense is going to put them in some good positions and
- 1:12:34they're going to capitalize just a little more and you We've been
- 1:12:39going through this every time when one of us or both of us
- 1:12:43choose a loss. We're going to say how we win
- 1:12:47and Brian kick it off of what you got the first, the first,
- 1:12:50big thing. Yeah, in already said it, we
- 1:12:52were talked about the defense, but the defense has to force
- 1:12:54field goals instead of touchdowns.
- 1:12:56If they have good drives, they need to end in three points.
- 1:12:59Not touchdowns. All right, so key one there guys
- 1:13:04field goals and obviously in brine scenario, you've got them
- 1:13:08getting down there. Five times, kicking three field,
- 1:13:10goals, you say you need left. You need less than three.
- 1:13:13Any more than three you need 2025 for us to win.
- 1:13:18And I'm I'm similar, I've got them scored three touchdowns.
- 1:13:22So if you tell him, either we hold them to a couple field
- 1:13:25goals. Yeah, we can win this game.
- 1:13:28That's next thing we brought up here was in Bryan, has already
- 1:13:31said, we have to establish the run early and then mixing the
- 1:13:35passing attack as we get into the game.
- 1:13:38And it's true in, in a, we sin is in a rethinking Ron and then
- 1:13:44start taking shots start. No.
- 1:13:47Start pepper and easy passes, start pepper and smart passes.
- 1:13:53Essentially what I hope we don't do Brian has I really hope we
- 1:13:57run. I hope we start outside Zone us.
- 1:13:59Hope we start outside in running the ball.
- 1:14:02I hope this is not weak Force last year where we literally ran
- 1:14:06it their best player, the whole game.
- 1:14:09And we know that the best part of this defense is here.
- 1:14:13So I hope that doesn't happen. But if we can get it, Only this
- 1:14:18attack the edges to meet earlier where the linebackers are, maybe
- 1:14:22hesitating a few second tenth of a second in the middle of field.
- 1:14:26Where later in the game, when you run a jet motion then you
- 1:14:30can come back with that inside Zone and because they took that
- 1:14:32awkward step. One of them can get up here and
- 1:14:35drive them out the way. Yeah.
- 1:14:38What about some actual true read option.
- 1:14:45My eye twitching here. Yeah.
- 1:14:47Read options. Yes.
- 1:14:49Yep. Because again, it's attacking
- 1:14:51the outside, right? And then it's making them have
- 1:14:55to make decisions and eventually they make the wrong decisions.
- 1:14:59You are able to go up on that inside, low, something like
- 1:15:01that, we can run talk about them again.
- 1:15:04Yeah, we talked about them occasion, losing leverage in the
- 1:15:07running game on the edge. That's what we got to take
- 1:15:10advantage of early, so we can kind of loosen.
- 1:15:12Them up so we can run inside. But the other thing we need to
- 1:15:15do, you know, back to the defense, we got to force them to
- 1:15:17drive the field long, and we've done a good job with that,
- 1:15:20right? So far this year, we've done a
- 1:15:22good job with controlling field position to making them Drive
- 1:15:25the field and what that does is the more plays.
- 1:15:29They have to run to move the ball down the field, the more
- 1:15:31prone they are to make a mistake at some point whether that is,
- 1:15:35you know, on the offensive line where they give up a key sack on
- 1:15:38third down, or whether that's making turnovers or you know,
- 1:15:41giving up a fumble Ever may be the further, you make a team,
- 1:15:45have to go the more at they are to do something to screw up that
- 1:15:49drive. Very true.
- 1:15:52Last piece we've done this very well, this year.
- 1:15:55It's why we're three in one. And I know if you follow Twitter
- 1:16:01or social media, or listen, you would swear some people, the way
- 1:16:05they react, where your Owen 14, we're three in one, we're in a
- 1:16:10division race, the a ACC and the reason we've been able to do
- 1:16:14that is offensive and special teams have played super clean
- 1:16:19minimal turnovers. We have to keep that here.
- 1:16:22If we turn the ball, if we turn the ball over in any sort of
- 1:16:25capacity driving in for a score Deep In the Zone like we did
- 1:16:30against Richmond or in the middle of the field.
- 1:16:35If we do that, we're giving them the extra opportunities.
- 1:16:37We have to get those opportunities as Brian just said
- 1:16:40a few seconds ago, well, we're going to need them to generate
- 1:16:43points on our end. We can't give them something
- 1:16:45back to offset that. Now, if we do all this, do I
- 1:16:51think, like we blow the doors off of them.
- 1:16:53Win by 23 touchdowns? No, I think it's just a flip
- 1:16:56script of probably what we're thinking of our scores.
- 1:16:59Yes, the motor dame. We think Virginia Tech because
- 1:17:02we did everything. Perfect.
- 1:17:06Yeah. I mean, it's definitely like a
- 1:17:08329 Point Victory. The other way we can put all
- 1:17:11these things together and a lot of that's going to depend on if
- 1:17:16we put those things together and we also Force like a pick six or
- 1:17:19a special teams touchdown or something like that.
- 1:17:23That's something that could really kind of put it, put it at
- 1:17:25the higher in there. So yeah, I mean, we are picking
- 1:17:29against the Hokies this week but we are still positive, that
- 1:17:33there's a chance out there. To pull, pull the pull the wind,
- 1:17:38we just got to we got to put a lot of pieces together this week
- 1:17:40us and we got to see improvement from a certain part of the team.
- 1:17:44All right Brian. Let's head over to Saturday.
- 1:17:46Pick them's. You boys want 500 last week very
- 1:17:51rough week. You know.
- 1:17:52Spelled all out. Brian Steele, 27.
- 1:17:55And 25. Two games above.
- 1:17:56I'm right at 26 and 26. Here's the funny part. we
- 1:18:03literally line up and just say, let's pick these games we aren't
- 1:18:07going through games saying, like, you know, I don't like
- 1:18:13that game. If I was actually a bet, I would
- 1:18:16be read that on that game, but because we want to talk about
- 1:18:19the ACC teams and some of the bigger matchup.
- 1:18:21That's why we're pulling these on here, maybe.
- 1:18:24Next year. Brian will have this.
- 1:18:25Like, I am doing this on this game, but this is my I'm not
- 1:18:28counting it gonna be, I think that game.
- 1:18:31Well, the game we're leaving off with, you know, we're not
- 1:18:35stacking the deck because no, no.
- 1:18:37If I had any fucking saying this, I would not be picking
- 1:18:40this game. But you have to Bryan, and guess
- 1:18:43what? Since you are leading, you get
- 1:18:45to be honors. Maybe this is a coin flip.
- 1:18:49So like I mean Duke is weird. Georgia Tech is, we are polar I
- 1:18:57don't know what to expect from them.
- 1:19:00Yeah so you got a little bit of flavor.
- 1:19:05I'm going to take Georgia Tech and hope I don't have to curse
- 1:19:08them next week because I think they're there, maybe improve,
- 1:19:13just enough, and I think Gunners just not quite get to be able to
- 1:19:16get it done against them. So yeah, I'll take I'll take GT
- 1:19:21here. Um, I'm actually going to go
- 1:19:23with you right there. Georgia Tech did not have a good
- 1:19:28game last week. I can remember, right?
- 1:19:32Yeah, they it's Evan flow. It's happened there having flow.
- 1:19:35So this is there good week, I think I'm right on.
- 1:19:38I gotta check that out. My brains.
- 1:19:41Yeah, they had the bad because they got blown out by pit.
- 1:19:43Georgia Tech rebounds to win this week Duke.
- 1:19:48You know, got blown up by North Carolina.
- 1:19:50I think the Jew trajectories there, Georgia, Tech later,
- 1:19:55three-and-a-half. Georgia Tech wins by 10 in a,
- 1:19:57probably a fun game to watch. All right, Brian will go with
- 1:20:01the next one. Here UVA Louisville.
- 1:20:05Louisville lane two and a half there at home.
- 1:20:08Essentially Louisville's getting the home flavor and I'm gonna go
- 1:20:13with Louisville with Louisville, at least parts of this season.
- 1:20:18We've seen their offense, click and score.
- 1:20:20They're going against UVA who as bad as mine.
- 1:20:25He looked Miami still, almost got 230 and almost beat the is
- 1:20:29bammy. Miami look ratchet.
- 1:20:31Like Mammy hadn't business in that game.
- 1:20:32And UVA. Let them potentially have the Us
- 1:20:35to win the game. Louisville has looked more up
- 1:20:38than down, but I think Louisville will have enough of a
- 1:20:42defense to where there's probably going to be about eight
- 1:20:45possessions of Peace in this game.
- 1:20:47I think Louisville is going to school in six to seven, because
- 1:20:50uva's offense, defense is just horrible.
- 1:20:52We're UVA is gonna swarm 5, so something like, forty two,
- 1:20:56thirty five, forty, nine, thirty, But in that case, give
- 1:21:01me Louisville and I'll lay the points to UVA.
- 1:21:05I'm going to take that as well. Give me Louisville and it's very
- 1:21:09much a similar similar story there.
- 1:21:12I think Louisville is settling in and trending in the right
- 1:21:15direction, on both sides of the ball, particularly on their
- 1:21:17offensive side. And I think they're going to do
- 1:21:20enough to score against that awful awful UVA defense that
- 1:21:27That offense for UVA is going to have to be damn near perfect in
- 1:21:30order to pull out the W. It's very, very true.
- 1:21:34Alright, Braun surprising game of to pretty solid teams
- 1:21:39Syracuse and Wake Forest Lake Wake, Forest Lane the
- 1:21:42six-and-a-half. What say you on this one?
- 1:21:46I'm going to go with wake here. I think they're going to be able
- 1:21:49to do enough to win that one, by about 10 points.
- 1:21:55I think use is a much better. Than previously advertised team,
- 1:21:59their running game and defense are respectable, but I just
- 1:22:04don't think they have enough in the tank to go for quarters of
- 1:22:07waken and keep it that close. I'm with you on that one all the
- 1:22:12way I think I think use came back to Earth last week against
- 1:22:15FSU and especially the way FSU and looked they got into a fight
- 1:22:20with them and loss. I think you can see that
- 1:22:22downward spiral continue on especially when the one of their
- 1:22:28better receivers goes into the portal and lines up o interest
- 1:22:31from Texas A&M after hearing the Jerrod story andand the other
- 1:22:36week, I wonder what happened while he was in the portal and
- 1:22:39again, When portals going to be good but man, it's going to be
- 1:22:42some dirty crap in the portal or the next few years.
- 1:22:46All right, Braun. Next one, FSU versus UNC.
- 1:22:51I had a double check this number and I'm going to again just to
- 1:22:54make sure I'm looking right FSU. Is the underdog.
- 1:23:02Not surprising. No, North Carolina is Lane 17
- 1:23:06and a half points. I don't FSU has looked like a
- 1:23:11dumpster fire. They looked much better last
- 1:23:14week. I can't least 17 and a half.
- 1:23:16The way Carolina's has been up and down and has placed a, they
- 1:23:20have also been very bipolar. They just their their highs have
- 1:23:24been higher than Georgia Tech, and their lows, haven't, quite
- 1:23:26been as low as Georgia Tech. But Yeah, they've definitely
- 1:23:32been kind of up and down, as well, but you pretty much as to
- 1:23:37say, in this case, FSU has one of its worst days.
- 1:23:40While UNC has one of its best if they're going to cover that 17
- 1:23:44and a half. So I'm gonna go f issue here.
- 1:23:47Yeah, we're locking again together.
- 1:23:49Here we are locking up across the board here so far.
- 1:23:53That's okay though. All right, I got a smelly line
- 1:23:56for you for Friday night on the west coast.
- 1:23:59Stanford coming off the upset of Number three, organ goes to
- 1:24:03Arizona State, Arizona, state has looked good and bad at
- 1:24:06times. They are ranked currently, they
- 1:24:09are laying 12 points to Stanford.
- 1:24:15I don't get that. I mean, I would say this should
- 1:24:23be like a six and a half. Maybe seven and a half line.
- 1:24:27Yeah, not 12. Give me Stanford just because
- 1:24:34that's, that's a weird. That just maybe Vegas know
- 1:24:40something. I don't know.
- 1:24:43Well, I've known they've known before and I'm and and that's
- 1:24:48why I'm going to just go against you, because we need to break
- 1:24:50the monotony of going on the same thing.
- 1:24:52And I'm wondering if it's whole thing of did Stanford, just is
- 1:24:56the thought that Stanford play their best game against a really
- 1:24:59good team. And now they have another sock,
- 1:25:03another very good team. In front of them.
- 1:25:04Can they get up again? And, you know, Taking a look,
- 1:25:09leave this one, you know, it's at Arizona State the line.
- 1:25:15Wow, well, we like these in earlier so we're going to just
- 1:25:18stay at the 12 line. Actually, went up a point since
- 1:25:22earlier today, when we put these down Brian.
- 1:25:25So I'm going to take Arizona State.
- 1:25:30Okay, I think hangover and short week on the road, probably going
- 1:25:39to be a good environment. They're in Tempe, we already
- 1:25:43mentioned this game once Braun and Red River, shoot outside,
- 1:25:49the Red River. Robberies the Red River
- 1:25:51shootout, at State, Fair of Texas, Texas and Oklahoma
- 1:25:54Oklahoma Lane, three and a half, very short line.
- 1:26:00And you know the question you have to ask yourself is when is
- 1:26:04Oklahoma going to get right? When is it going to click eunos
- 1:26:09Rattlers a good quarterback? You know, they have some
- 1:26:12talented you know you know playmakers all over the field
- 1:26:17when is the offensive line going to get right?
- 1:26:20And I think in this case it's going to be in a rivalry game.
- 1:26:23I think it's going to be how many times do you see it?
- 1:26:26We're a team has been playing other teams, they look mediocre.
- 1:26:31They look blah and then all of a sudden the teen you hate pops
- 1:26:36across the street and everybody gets focused at week.
- 1:26:39So I'm going to take Oklahoma lay the three and a half.
- 1:26:44I'll go against you here. Okay.
- 1:26:48Now, I'm not saying Texas is back.
- 1:26:50We don't say that on this program, if we do it
- 1:26:53sarcastically. Yeah.
- 1:26:57But I think, Oklahoma just hasn't found.
- 1:27:01It has a found the offensive clicked.
- 1:27:04They really need and I feel like Texas does a good job of kind of
- 1:27:08keeping them a little bit off balance on defense so I think
- 1:27:13overall ends up probably going to take taxes out right here but
- 1:27:19I think Texas pulls pulls it off here.
- 1:27:21All right, so, upset week 12, cannibalizes itself, even more
- 1:27:26Brian takes Texas. I'm going to take Oklahoma.
- 1:27:29All right, we've got some Virginia Tech ties to the next
- 1:27:32game. Brian.
- 1:27:33And yes, we do, everyone in the fighting Shane.
- 1:27:35Beamers go play Tennessee and potentially Hendon hooker.
- 1:27:41I know he got knocked out of the Florida game, but, you know,
- 1:27:48it's college football. It seems like these guys come
- 1:27:50back quicker than other things. Yep.
- 1:27:53Um, and He did play last week against Missouri, so many
- 1:27:58played, it had a great game. So I'm by week is completely
- 1:28:02thrown up where we are in my Head.
- 1:28:04Tennis haha. Yeah, it's like it's messed up
- 1:28:07my mind. You know, you didn't come in
- 1:28:10what games happened last week? Oh yeah.
- 1:28:12Happened two weeks ago. Tennessee's laying
- 1:28:15ten-and-a-half and Tennessee for this game is at home.
- 1:28:21It's a high noon, kick grind ten and a half ago what you got.
- 1:28:27Give me the fighting hookers. Over the fighting, Shane
- 1:28:30Beamers. Find hookers over the cocks.
- 1:28:35Yeah. Fighting hookers over cocks.
- 1:28:37I'm Liquors are take. Hookers are taken down the Cox.
- 1:28:43Hey it's a machine on the board here I'm with you.
- 1:28:48Tennessee's play significantly better look solid against
- 1:28:53Florida for a while there and don't get me wrong.
- 1:28:56Shame has started out the gate find three and two you know wins
- 1:29:02over Well, Eastern Illinois is East Carolina and Troy and
- 1:29:09losses to Georgia and Kentucky, but the Kentucky game was
- 1:29:12competitive but I think in this scenario it's going to be every
- 1:29:17game where unless they play Perfect, they're likely, they're
- 1:29:23not they're going to lose by two touchdowns or more.
- 1:29:26So, I'll take Tennessee on this one.
- 1:29:28Braun. All right, buddy, the night game
- 1:29:33on ABC this week, Battle of traditional Powers, Nebraska and
- 1:29:37Michigan Michigan, laying three and a half.
- 1:29:41And this is going to be at Nebraska and this is the one I
- 1:29:45have mold over more than anything because Nebraska has
- 1:29:48looked better since that, absolutely awful showing at the
- 1:29:54beginning of the Season against Illinois, the one where
- 1:29:57literally you probably thought they were Fire Scott, Frost the
- 1:30:03Monday morning. After that happened.
- 1:30:06You know. There there are there like a
- 1:30:08handful of coaches that were immediately on the hot seat that
- 1:30:12have since that's cooled off a little bit.
- 1:30:15Yeah. And they're three and three and
- 1:30:16you can say, well, that's still terrible record, but the losses
- 1:30:20were seven points to Oklahoma. And three points to a very good
- 1:30:25Michigan State team. Who's undefeated right now blew
- 1:30:29the doors off. Northwestern last week.
- 1:30:32But the way Hardball has his guys playing, it reminds me of
- 1:30:372011 and as a Niners fan, that was close to my heart.
- 1:30:43So I think hard by goes down to Nebraska.
- 1:30:47I think they get a win, by more than three and a half points.
- 1:30:50And I think last week against Wisconsin, proved that.
- 1:30:54Jimmy would go and continue to score on people and, you know,
- 1:30:59because you take a look at that game last week, you know, 3817
- 1:31:04at Wisconsin and, you know, they scored 25 points in the second
- 1:31:10half. When you know, that's just
- 1:31:13something they hadn't done. What about you?
- 1:31:15Yeah, I'm taking the Wolverines as well.
- 1:31:20I think this is a, this feels like a different mission.
- 1:31:24Team of the one we've kind of seen of late.
- 1:31:27I think that lack of preseason expectations has done wonders
- 1:31:33for their confidence, they look like they're playing very
- 1:31:37confidently in that offense. And the defense is playing as
- 1:31:42good as they played in the harbor.
- 1:31:43Our era there at Michigan. So used to him, I'll take the
- 1:31:48Wolverines here. All right.
- 1:31:50Got you down here? All right, Braun, lets take a
- 1:31:54look next at the Deep South oldest.
- 1:31:56Wobbly Auburn and Georgia, Georgia, Lane 14, and a half
- 1:32:02points Auburn coming off that kind of the bone X Mirage,
- 1:32:07whatever he did late in that game to LSU in Georgia, just
- 1:32:12absolutely stomping a mudhole in Arkansas in the first quarter.
- 1:32:18Well, you think on this one? This is the one that I've been
- 1:32:22struggling with because it's one of those where the line is fine.
- 1:32:26But you just have a huge problem laying more than two touchdowns
- 1:32:33in this type of game, right? I think I'll go is definitely
- 1:32:39capable of putting that type of Victory against them up there
- 1:32:45but if I got to make a pick I think that it's going to be a
- 1:32:48little bit closer than that. Probably seven to ten point
- 1:32:51game. So give be Auburn.
- 1:32:56And I don't feel good about it but I'll that's what I'll go
- 1:32:58with bronze going Auburn. Even with the question marks
- 1:33:04around, JT Daniels the way that they're doing everything else in
- 1:33:10Georgia. I can't go against them right
- 1:33:13now. It's like Alabama Alabama is
- 1:33:16laying like 20 against am this week at that was on our board.
- 1:33:20I would I would lay the points. I'm going to lay the points
- 1:33:23because I think George is going to win this game by 20 plus I
- 1:33:26think it's games will be like 4220 4217 in bone X.
- 1:33:36You're not going to be able to do pull Houdini this week.
- 1:33:38You try to pull a Houdini this week, you might not get a
- 1:33:40straight jacket. All right, Braun.
- 1:33:45The big one, Saturday afternoon. We will get to enjoy this game
- 1:33:49before the hoax. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:53Very good. Free beers.
- 1:33:55Penn State Iowa. I'm going to check this line one
- 1:33:58more time. See if anything's changed.
- 1:34:03Nope, still it to Iowa, getting the home to at kinnick.
- 1:34:08We know the stuff with kennick teams, who have been big ranked
- 1:34:11of went in there before. But Iowa's time is also bigger
- 1:34:15ink. And you pick the last one first.
- 1:34:19So I got to pick this one and I'm going to go Iowa.
- 1:34:22I think Iowa might not have as many athletes at Penn State, but
- 1:34:27they are essentially doing what they do on both sides of the
- 1:34:31ball. And right now, I don't think
- 1:34:34Penn State haven't has enough. They don't have enough athletes
- 1:34:37to overcome that. Okay.
- 1:34:41I'm gonna go Penn State here and I don't like it, but, okay.
- 1:34:47I think I think, I think Penn State is playing as consistent
- 1:34:52football, as we've seen them play in a while.
- 1:34:55And I think they see some vulnerabilities in other areas
- 1:35:01of the conference this year, and they feel like, if they can get
- 1:35:03past this, hump, they've got a pretty good path to potentially
- 1:35:10the Football playoff. So give me Penn State here.
- 1:35:15Alright John, Braun down for Penn State on that.
- 1:35:19He will get two points. Anything breaking since we've
- 1:35:24been doing this for about an hour and a half.
- 1:35:26Number on Urban Meyer is not groped.
- 1:35:29Any other coeds in the time that we've been on air that we know
- 1:35:35of that, we know of that, we know of I'm just looking through
- 1:35:42here that he deserved a night out.
- 1:35:45Well the baseball game 1-1, bottom 7th chairs are in
- 1:35:49Wainwright or both out. So they have finished this off
- 1:35:53and buddy, let's just do it. Let's wrap it.
