- 0:19Speaker 1: Todd Bigshay and Jimmy Hark God to join us today.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We are all in separate places. Todd mcshae in about
- 0:25Speaker 1: fifteen minutes. Is he in South Florida? I'm in Chicago.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Still Taylor's in New York. I'm assuming he's going to
- 0:31Speaker 1: a Yankee game tonight. The last time the last thing
- 0:34Speaker 1: I heard before we started the show, and I am
- 0:37Speaker 1: shocked by it because I was going to discuss Bam
- 0:40Speaker 1: Adebaio again because we have discussed more Bam. I don't
- 0:44Speaker 1: think there's a topic we've discussed more this year than BAM.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And I was thankful and shocked to hear is real
- 0:51Speaker 1: Gudy Era say to me right before we started, I
- 0:54Speaker 1: want to talk baseball?
- 0:56Speaker 3: What?
- 0:57Speaker 4: Well, technically it was Taylor telling you that I want
- 1:00Speaker 4: talk baseball the technicalities. Man.
- 1:02Speaker 5: We're doing radio.
- 1:05Speaker 4: And just want to be, you know, completely transparent.
- 1:08Speaker 5: And I know, but it's a detail that no one
- 1:10Speaker 5: cares about. Well.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and what I was talking to Taylor about specifically
- 1:16Speaker 4: was Mason Miller. Do I There's a number of things
- 1:20Speaker 4: I would love to talk about, but that's just one
- 1:22Speaker 4: of them. But if you want to start there, we
- 1:23Speaker 4: can start there.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I do want to start there, because listen, Taylor and
- 1:27Speaker 1: I have been waiting for you to want to talk
- 1:29Speaker 1: baseball since we started doing the show. I mean, well
- 1:34Speaker 1: we might.
- 1:34Speaker 4: I might have been roped in a little bit because
- 1:36Speaker 4: we were talking about baseball in general, and I mentioned
- 1:38Speaker 4: Mason Miller and some.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Of his his crazy stats.
- 1:41Speaker 4: But have you been paying attention to what he's been
- 1:43Speaker 4: doing this year?
- 1:44Speaker 5: Stud? No, So he's the Padres closer in case you
- 1:48Speaker 5: didn't know that.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Thank you, and I appreciate he has been absent. First
- 1:52Speaker 4: of all, Taylor, correct me if I'm wrong here. He
- 1:53Speaker 4: did some work in the World Baseball Classic, did he not?
- 1:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he was on the US team, and then there
- 1:59Speaker 3: was the whole situation where they wouldn't bring him in
- 2:02Speaker 3: because it wasn't a safe situation and they were trying
- 2:04Speaker 3: to respect the Padres. So he didn't wind up pitching
- 2:06Speaker 3: in that last game.
- 2:08Speaker 4: So just to look at some of his numbers due over,
- 2:11Speaker 4: So here's including the playoffs. Okay, Mason Miller has struck out,
- 2:16Speaker 4: struck out twenty of his last twenty three batters, thirty
- 2:22Speaker 4: of his last thirty eight batters, forty of his last
- 2:25Speaker 4: fifty five. Keep going down to eighty of his last
- 2:28Speaker 4: one hundred and thirty five batters, eighty of his last
- 2:31Speaker 4: one hundred and thirty five batters faced he has struck out.
- 2:34Speaker 4: No other MLB pitcher in the last fifty years has
- 2:37Speaker 4: matched any of those stretches at any point in his career. Okay, okay,
- 2:41Speaker 4: Mason Miller, none of the this one's crazy. None of
- 2:45Speaker 4: the last one hundred and fourteen batters who have faced
- 2:49Speaker 4: Mason Miller have scored. One hundred and fourteen batters, none
- 2:54Speaker 4: of them have scored. But here's the thing that kind
- 2:57Speaker 4: of makes me feel like you're taking a little bit
- 2:59Speaker 4: of way way from Mason Miller and really the closer
- 3:02Speaker 4: position altogether. Okay, okay, So so far this season, twenty
- 3:06Speaker 4: three strikeouts do to one walk, zero earned runs, and
- 3:11Speaker 4: he's given up just one hit. But this next number
- 3:14Speaker 4: is the one that makes it less impressive. Okay, he's
- 3:18Speaker 4: pitched nine point one innings, nine and a third innings.
- 3:20Speaker 4: He's pits nine and a third innings, and we're talking
- 3:23Speaker 4: about this generational, never seen before pitcher, and it's like, yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 4: but he only pitches the very end. It's like if
- 3:30Speaker 4: you had Steph Curry, the best three point shooter of
- 3:33Speaker 4: all time, but he's only available for the last minute
- 3:36Speaker 4: if your team is behind.
- 3:38Speaker 1: That seems like that's kind of the yes, But it
- 3:41Speaker 1: seems like you don't want to take anything away from
- 3:43Speaker 1: Mason Miller, and it seems like you're the one trying
- 3:45Speaker 1: to take something away from Mason Millers.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Well, I want to talk about it with other baseball people.
- 3:50Speaker 4: My guy wearing a Yankees jersey over there in New York, Taylor,
- 3:54Speaker 4: and just talk to me about this because.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Am I wrong here?
- 3:57Speaker 4: Because I am mind blown by what he actually can do?
- 4:01Speaker 4: But why can't he do it for like three innings?
- 4:03Speaker 3: So I have this stat from Sarah Langes. Mason Miller's
- 4:07Speaker 3: seventy six point seven percent strikeout rate is the highest
- 4:11Speaker 3: by a pitcher in his first nine appearances of a
- 4:14Speaker 3: season in the last one hundred and twenty years. And
- 4:17Speaker 3: is he the conversation around Mason Miller, we haven't really
- 4:20Speaker 3: caught up to, Hey, let's start extending this guy two
- 4:23Speaker 3: innings to three innings, because the original talking point with
- 4:27Speaker 3: Mason Miller was he was on the Oakland Athletics and
- 4:30Speaker 3: the Oakland Athletics were not doing any winning. They really
- 4:34Speaker 3: didn't have too many safe situations for him. So the
- 4:36Speaker 3: conversation was, hey, we got to get this guy out
- 4:40Speaker 3: of Oakland and onto a contender. So the fact that
- 4:43Speaker 3: he's even on a contender right now in San Diego
- 4:46Speaker 3: is a win for the baseball community. Will address him
- 4:49Speaker 3: extending him and trying to maximize his role later on
- 4:53Speaker 3: down the road.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But that's an actual thing that you can discs because
- 4:56Speaker 4: I mean, nobody ever discussed extending Marian Rivera extending you know,
- 5:00Speaker 4: the greatest closers of all time. I don't know why
- 5:03Speaker 4: I can't think of another one other than Rob nend.
- 5:10Speaker 5: Is all you had? Uh, here's the marlin.
- 5:13Speaker 4: You know, Yes, But I'm just wondering, like, does it
- 5:16Speaker 4: make it less impressive his accomplishments or is it just
- 5:20Speaker 4: one of those like let's let's just not dig in
- 5:22Speaker 4: any further. Let him be a closer. Let him be
- 5:24Speaker 4: the greatest at that position.
- 5:26Speaker 5: So that's the role I will tell you.
- 5:27Speaker 1: In the postseason, Marianna Rivera would sometimes go two witnings
- 5:31Speaker 1: if he had to. Perhaps he'd go more if the
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yankees needed it on that particular night.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I am with Izzy from this standpoint.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I have often thought to myself, if a guy is
- 5:42Speaker 1: that good just getting three outs per game and throwing
- 5:45Speaker 1: one inning per game, perhaps you want to extend him out.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Perhaps you should see what he looks like if he
- 5:50Speaker 1: threw five innings, four innings, seven innings, eight hitnings.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Would his stuff be that good? My guess is no.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Otherwise they'd be doing.
- 5:57Speaker 4: It, I would say, and this is the way. Obviously
- 6:01Speaker 4: you would probably have to do that. Like you know,
- 6:02Speaker 4: if you're up three to one in the eighth inning,
- 6:06Speaker 4: let's just see what this eighth inning looks like with him.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And if he only has to throw eight pitches or
- 6:11Speaker 4: nine pitches, ten pitches to get this side out, go
- 6:14Speaker 4: ahead and bring him back out for the ninth. I
- 6:15Speaker 4: think he'll be fine. And then you just keep going
- 6:17Speaker 4: from there. Next thing you know might be starting a
- 6:19Speaker 4: game for you.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And is he san Diego is really the perfect team
- 6:24Speaker 3: for Mason Miller, because it feels like San Diego has
- 6:28Speaker 3: just compiled every player who you would look at on
- 6:32Speaker 3: a baseball field and be like, Wow, this guy is fun.
- 6:34Speaker 3: This guy is must watch. But for some reason, they
- 6:37Speaker 3: make a move every like two years, and none of
- 6:40Speaker 3: that has really equated to them having like this great
- 6:44Speaker 3: postseason success. Like when they went out and they got
- 6:47Speaker 3: Juan Soto in twenty twenty two, it was immediately followed
- 6:51Speaker 3: by Fernando Tatis getting suspended, and then in twenty twenty
- 6:56Speaker 3: three when Tatis comes back from his suspension, it's it's
- 7:00Speaker 3: Tatis et Xander Bogart and they missed the playoffs.
- 7:03Speaker 5: That's insane.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I mean, that's insane. There's so much fun and they
- 7:07Speaker 4: don't make the playoffs. But yeah, you throw in Mason Miller, man,
- 7:10Speaker 4: they better make the playoffs.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Because are you saying you want to see what Mason
- 7:13Speaker 1: Miller would look like if he was a number one
- 7:15Speaker 1: starter or something?
- 7:16Speaker 5: Is that where you're headed here?
- 7:18Speaker 4: Yeah, And again this is probably just more of a
- 7:20Speaker 4: philosophical situation with you know, baseball in general and the
- 7:24Speaker 4: closer position, and I understand sometimes those last three outs
- 7:27Speaker 4: are really hard to get and you need that guy.
- 7:30Speaker 4: But you're talking about this dominant to performance from the
- 7:33Speaker 4: very beginning. Let's see if we can get more out
- 7:34Speaker 4: of them.
- 7:35Speaker 5: That's all.
- 7:36Speaker 3: So there's I'm trying to think of my list of
- 7:40Speaker 3: most the people I trust the most when it comes
- 7:42Speaker 3: to baseball. Tim Kirchin's number one, Jeff Passon's number two,
- 7:47Speaker 3: number three, it's bord up Riccardo.
- 7:50Speaker 5: Oh you know I would put bored up Ricardo ahead
- 7:52Speaker 5: of pass It. I would really wow. Oh yeah, yes, yes, yes.
- 7:56Speaker 3: And we just got this note from bard up Riccardo.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Mason is very limited. He has a crazy fastball, a
- 8:02Speaker 3: nasty slider, and a changeup. Not enough pitches to start.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Right, And bord Otricardo is right, is he?
- 8:09Speaker 1: Sometimes you just have a guy who can come in,
- 8:11Speaker 1: give you nine fast balls, get you three outs, and
- 8:13Speaker 1: the game is over. And that's his role, and he
- 8:15Speaker 1: gets paid a lot of money to do that. He
- 8:17Speaker 1: does it better than anyone in baseball. How about that?
- 8:19Speaker 4: Okay, So that's fine. I'm going to here's the compromise
- 8:22Speaker 4: I'm gonna take here. It's like I'm just gonna not
- 8:25Speaker 4: be as impressed.
- 8:27Speaker 5: That's what it is.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I'm gonna look at all these numbers and be like
- 8:29Speaker 4: that is great part time player.
- 8:31Speaker 5: You're limited, Ricardo told me. So you're saying do it
- 8:34Speaker 5: as a starter.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You're not believing in the actual role of closer, are you?
- 8:38Speaker 5: No? No?
- 8:38Speaker 4: Again, Like, I do believe that those last three outs
- 8:41Speaker 4: are really hard to get and if you have two,
- 8:43Speaker 4: maybe even just one, Marion rivera dominant pitch, Hey get
- 8:47Speaker 4: me those three outs.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I get that role.
- 8:49Speaker 4: But I just won't be as impressed because it's just
- 8:52Speaker 4: three outs.
- 8:52Speaker 5: There's twenty four more in the game.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Is he So you're kind of questioning it sounds like
- 8:57Speaker 3: if I am understanding this right, what it would look
- 8:59Speaker 3: like if we started extending him out to two innings,
- 9:02Speaker 3: to three innings, to four innings, to five innings, eventually
- 9:05Speaker 3: getting to the point where he could maybe transition to
- 9:08Speaker 3: a starter. I think what Mason Miller would look like
- 9:11Speaker 3: as a starter is happening in Pittsburgh, and it's called
- 9:13Speaker 3: Paul Skeens.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I can see that what's been going on with him.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I remember the first game I kind of checked out since.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Then, what's going on with him is Taylor would now
- 9:23Speaker 1: trade him straight up for Cam Schlittler.
- 9:25Speaker 5: I mean that I'm not.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I'm not entirely there yet.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Uh.
- 9:31Speaker 3: It's it's first off, stew, I I am going to
- 9:33Speaker 3: the Yankee game later. I just bought my tickets. Happy
- 9:36Speaker 3: cam schlitt Or day. It's a cam shlitt Or start
- 9:38Speaker 3: of course.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Right. Well, I'm a little nervous, but okay, you going
- 9:41Speaker 5: with salth Slitler name? What are you doing? You and
- 9:43Speaker 5: Sal little date date night? Now?
- 9:45Speaker 3: So I did I did ask Sal? Well, I didn't
- 9:48Speaker 3: ask Sal. Sal offered to take me to the game
- 9:52Speaker 3: and go back back behind the scenes and meet Aaron Boone.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And then he very reluctantly hold away set offer because
- 10:02Speaker 3: he said he was going to like Pepa Pigs house
- 10:05Speaker 3: or something for for his daughter's birthday this weekend.
- 10:07Speaker 5: He was like, that's more important. Good.
- 10:09Speaker 3: He was like, I have to go to Peppa Pig's
- 10:10Speaker 3: house in Pennsylvania. I'm like, first off, that sounds like
- 10:13Speaker 3: a tongue twister. Pepa Pigs house in Pennsylvania. Two, Peppa
- 10:17Speaker 3: Pig is a cartoon. She's got a house.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, yep, yes. Now I'm listen. I'm starting to
- 10:25Speaker 1: wonder if Sally just used that as an excuse to
- 10:26Speaker 1: get out and go into a baseball game with you.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I'm not certain.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Show if you heard Taylor's takes on Aaron Boon, I
- 10:34Speaker 4: was just like, no, no, I can't have you meet
- 10:35Speaker 4: that man.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Yes.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Has there ever been a closer turned starter that it
- 10:40Speaker 1: where it's worked out? I know we've had Smoltz who
- 10:42Speaker 1: was a great start, a Hall of Fame starter, and
- 10:44Speaker 1: then became a Hall of Fame closer. I'm not certain
- 10:47Speaker 1: it's it's happened the other way where a guy was
- 10:49Speaker 1: a closer and because this stuff was so good, he
- 10:52Speaker 1: had all the pitches converted to a starter and then
- 10:55Speaker 1: had a good career as a starter.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Right now, I think the best example, coincidentally enough, is
- 11:01Speaker 3: in San Diego Michael King, who was a big piece
- 11:05Speaker 3: in the in the Wan Soto trade. Michael King was
- 11:08Speaker 3: a reliever for the Yankees, and when they acquired him
- 11:11Speaker 3: in the Wan Soto trade, the Padres identified something that said, hey,
- 11:16Speaker 3: this guy could probably be a starter for this team.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And Michael King since going over to the Padres, his
- 11:22Speaker 3: his eras pretty consistently under like three three and a half,
- 11:27Speaker 3: which is which is pretty good for a starter.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Perhaps what happened here and is he tell us, if
- 11:32Speaker 1: this is the case, you did not want to partake
- 11:34Speaker 1: in the Roger McDowell interview. You left him, You left
- 11:37Speaker 1: them to me, and I appreciate that. But McDowell in
- 11:40Speaker 1: a big game, six in the playoffs, as Taylor now knows,
- 11:44Speaker 1: through not one, not two, not three, not four, five
- 11:48Speaker 1: innings in a playoff game, and you would you want
- 11:50Speaker 1: your relievers to do something like that?
- 11:52Speaker 5: Is that fair? Fair?
- 11:54Speaker 4: Also, you're welcome for letting you have Roger McDowell. I'll
- 11:57Speaker 4: to yourself, but did you hear that? Did you hear
- 11:59Speaker 4: me dab will say that. Did you hear us discuss
- 12:02Speaker 4: that with him? And you said to yourself, Hey, Nason Miller,
- 12:04Speaker 4: let's go five innings.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Yes, that's exactly what happened. He did it, he did.
- 12:10Speaker 5: He finally played along with the radio. Yes.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I also have a better example than Michael King. I
- 12:15Speaker 3: believe in current MLB when Garrett Crochet was coming up
- 12:19Speaker 3: through the miners for the White Sox. When he made
- 12:22Speaker 3: his debut for the White Sox, he was a reliever
- 12:24Speaker 3: and then eventually they transitioned him. They were like, your
- 12:27Speaker 3: stuff is way too good for it to be wasted
- 12:30Speaker 3: on one to two innings when we believe we can
- 12:33Speaker 3: stretch you out. And since Garrett Crochet has made the
- 12:36Speaker 3: transition to starting pitcher, he's one of the best pictures
- 12:39Speaker 3: in MLB.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I wish I started with dam I was gonna say
- 12:43Speaker 4: when we turned to Garrett Crochet, which I'd seen his name,
- 12:46Speaker 4: I've never actually realized that it's actually pronounced Crochet.
- 12:48Speaker 5: I thought was Pratchett. I think it's time to pivot, Stu.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Can I tell you the other thing that I was
- 12:55Speaker 4: dying to talk about today?
- 12:57Speaker 5: Sure, go ahead, and I clicked on I think it
- 13:02Speaker 5: was NBA TV.
- 13:03Speaker 4: They were playing Game six of the nineteen ninety eight
- 13:06Speaker 4: NBA Finals Jazz Bulls, and I caught the last two minutes,
- 13:09Speaker 4: and man, I want to revisit that because John Stockton
- 13:12Speaker 4: did not catch enough heat for his terrible play down
- 13:15Speaker 4: the stretch that guy needs. We need to retroactively, absolutely
- 13:19Speaker 4: roast John Stockton for losing that Game six for the
- 13:22Speaker 4: Utah Jazz.
- 13:23Speaker 1: How about that big steal down the stretch of that
- 13:25Speaker 1: game by the greatest defensive player that's ever lived, Michael Jordan.
- 13:28Speaker 5: How about that go.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Back and look at that. It was such a terrible
- 13:30Speaker 4: decision by Stockton. Let Michael Jordan clear the baseline before
- 13:33Speaker 4: you make the pass.
- 13:34Speaker 5: John. He's a Hall of Famer, is he?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu gottson Company Live,

- 13:52Speaker 1: eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Our thanks to
- 13:56Speaker 1: Todd McShay for joining us. Last segment, me Heart the
- 14:01Speaker 1: Mouth of the South could enjoin us. Coming up at
- 14:03Speaker 1: around four fifteen, The Hulk Hogan documentary, four part series
- 14:07Speaker 1: is coming out on Netflix.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I am very much looking forward to that.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Israel and Taylor have been laughing the entire break because
- 14:16Speaker 1: we referenced the story right before we went to Todd
- 14:18Speaker 1: McShay every day.
- 14:21Speaker 5: Page six.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You can find a picture of me there, and you
- 14:23Speaker 1: can find a story about Diana Rassini.
- 14:26Speaker 5: But Taylor, what do you laughing? What are you laughing about?
- 14:30Speaker 5: What are you And is he laughing about what happened here?
- 14:33Speaker 3: So this is kind of two parts. What I'm laughing
- 14:35Speaker 3: at one is the fact that anything you say gets
- 14:40Speaker 3: aggregated by awful announcing. Page six, the New York Posts
- 14:46Speaker 3: you name it. Yeah, And for some reason, every time
- 14:50Speaker 3: they pick a picture of you, yeah, picking like skill
- 14:53Speaker 3: photos of you from videos, and they're they're not getting
- 14:57Speaker 3: you at the best angles.
- 14:58Speaker 1: No, no, well listen, there aren't really any good angles
- 15:01Speaker 1: if I'm being honest.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Okay, Taylor, there's a picture now of you at your
- 15:06Speaker 4: famous family porch, which is your kitchen, and you're just
- 15:09Speaker 4: like staring into nothingness.
- 15:10Speaker 5: And it's like the New York Post is like, this
- 15:12Speaker 5: one's good, this.
- 15:14Speaker 1: One, Hey, Post, do me a favor. If you're gonna
- 15:18Speaker 1: post pictures of me, please use a better angle, use
- 15:22Speaker 1: better pictures. Because Taylor is right, this is there aren't
- 15:25Speaker 1: many good angles. But this is the worst possible angle
- 15:28Speaker 1: and it looks like a mug shot.
- 15:30Speaker 5: It does. It's terrible. Really, you got arrested in your
- 15:33Speaker 5: own home. All the Post has.
- 15:35Speaker 3: To do is just google George Clooney twenty twenty six,
- 15:39Speaker 3: have a photo and just.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Use that exactly. Yes.
- 15:43Speaker 3: The other angle that, the other angle that we were
- 15:47Speaker 3: laughing at is this story comes across somebody sends me
- 15:51Speaker 3: this story, and I'm double checking. I'm triple checking because
- 15:55Speaker 3: this feels like I'm getting ball sacked. It feels like
- 15:57Speaker 3: I'm getting fake storied left and right when I get
- 16:00Speaker 3: an article sent to me and the headline is from
- 16:03Speaker 3: page six, Diana Russini mounts daring rescue of elderly man
- 16:09Speaker 3: and dog trapped in car.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yes, because it would seem impossible for that story to
- 16:15Speaker 1: come on the heels of her last story.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Yes, I understand that.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Can I read a couple of details from this? Because
- 16:20Speaker 4: this is like, forget what has happened recently that everybody
- 16:23Speaker 4: wants to talk about.
- 16:24Speaker 5: Diana's a hero.
- 16:25Speaker 4: This in itself is absolutely crazy. So a local news
- 16:29Speaker 4: site Patch reported at around five pm on Wednesday, a
- 16:32Speaker 4: seventeen year old driving a Honda Civic turned onto a
- 16:35Speaker 4: street in suburban wykoff, New Jersey and collided with the jeep,
- 16:39Speaker 4: flipping the four by four onto its side. Okay, so apparently,
- 16:43Speaker 4: according to the report, as seventy three year old driver
- 16:46Speaker 4: of the jeep and his dog were stuck inside.
- 16:49Speaker 5: This is what I love about the article.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Enter Russini, who just today before had quit The Times,
- 16:54Speaker 4: blah blah blah, and eyewitness tells us that Russini was
- 16:57Speaker 4: driving along the same road as the jeep and the
- 16:59Speaker 4: accident happened and right in front of her car. Quote
- 17:02Speaker 4: she ran out and had a tall man put her
- 17:04Speaker 4: on top of the jeep to open the door, and
- 17:07Speaker 4: she and the other guy pulled the driver and his
- 17:09Speaker 4: dog out of the jeep and police arrived soon thereafter,
- 17:12Speaker 4: and STU, what.
- 17:14Speaker 3: We were laughing at is during the situation for Diana Russini,
- 17:19Speaker 3: there's probably been a few people who've been in contact
- 17:22Speaker 3: with her more than you, with your guy's relationship and
- 17:25Speaker 3: how close you are with Diana, and it seems like
- 17:29Speaker 3: she just did not tell you that this happened.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I just spoke to her, I mean seriously today because
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm trying to help my friend through a difficult time
- 17:36Speaker 1: and trying to help her find some levity and some
- 17:39Speaker 1: laughter in her life, because I can't imagine what the
- 17:42Speaker 1: last bunch of days have been like for Diana Ruscini.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And we spoke for like twenty minutes. She did not
- 17:47Speaker 1: mention this at all, and she knows I don't read
- 17:49Speaker 1: the newspaper, so she did not mention that she saved
- 17:53Speaker 1: an elderly man and a dog and had to be
- 17:56Speaker 1: lifted by a taller man in order to make the save.
- 18:00Speaker 1: She did not mention it, and I just sent her
- 18:01Speaker 1: a text going, how do you not mention this to me?
- 18:04Speaker 4: So I'm trying to put myself in her shoes, like
- 18:08Speaker 4: she's driving behind this accident and watches this happen. And
- 18:11Speaker 4: it's just like, is this going to be in the
- 18:14Speaker 4: news too if I help out? Because it probably will
- 18:17Speaker 4: be right funny, I sause now is going.
- 18:19Speaker 5: To get attention.
- 18:20Speaker 1: It'd be funny if the tall guy didn't want to
- 18:22Speaker 1: touch her because there's too much smoke around Rassini, so
- 18:27Speaker 1: he'd rather risk the elderly man and the dog passing
- 18:31Speaker 1: away that helping Diana Rassini become a hearro.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I mean about that, my goodness, Yes, don't touch, don't
- 18:36Speaker 4: get anywhere near me.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I can give you a boost.
- 18:38Speaker 4: From this direction, but that's about it. Maybe you want
- 18:40Speaker 4: to climb on something.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Right, because everywhere she goes, the post goes. I mean, it's.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Unbelievable time, yes, but we should be applauding her. She
- 18:52Speaker 1: did a wonderful thing. I mean, how many people would
- 18:54Speaker 1: do that? Is he would you do that?
- 18:56Speaker 5: Wow?
- 18:58Speaker 4: I would you know what I've driven? This is one
- 19:01Speaker 4: hundred percent truth. I've driven by accidents that have just happened,
- 19:05Speaker 4: and I've said to myself, somebody else will take care
- 19:08Speaker 4: of that, because I don't know what to do. Like
- 19:10Speaker 4: I wouldn't know what to do if somebody was like
- 19:12Speaker 4: unconscious or something.
- 19:13Speaker 5: I'd be like, I just make sure I look around.
- 19:15Speaker 4: If I'm not the only one there, I'll just let
- 19:17Speaker 4: somebody else take care of it. But I've never been
- 19:18Speaker 4: in a situation like that where it looks like I'm
- 19:20Speaker 4: the only one there, or it just happened right in
- 19:23Speaker 4: front of me. I would probably guess that, yes.
- 19:27Speaker 5: I would, but I have sort of turned the other way.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But if it was in your neighborhood, you probably you
- 19:33Speaker 1: would be more inclined to do it. I'm not certain
- 19:37Speaker 1: exactly where this was, but it wasn't like an I
- 19:39Speaker 1: ninety five, because on I ninety five, Yes I'm with you,
- 19:41Speaker 1: it happens right in front of me.
- 19:42Speaker 5: It's like, hey, what am I going to do? You know?
- 19:45Speaker 3: I like to think that I would help out in
- 19:47Speaker 3: this situation because it feels like Diana probably since the
- 19:52Speaker 3: severity of the situation and being able to spring into
- 19:55Speaker 3: action when you see an accident like that and you're
- 19:57Speaker 3: looking around and you don't see any medical personnel. But
- 20:01Speaker 3: the opposite end of that spectrum for me, when I
- 20:04Speaker 3: get on a flight, I sign up for the emergency
- 20:06Speaker 3: row almost every time, and I always think, if something
- 20:09Speaker 3: happens on this plane, everybody here is counting on me
- 20:12Speaker 3: because I agreed to it. But I'm I'm gonna be
- 20:14Speaker 3: the first person out of this plane. Comes the shof everybody. Look,
- 20:18Speaker 3: I know you're supposed to go first. I'm gonna set
- 20:20Speaker 3: the example. This is how you get the heck out
- 20:22Speaker 3: of here.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm always thinking, God forbid, there's an emergency. I didn't
- 20:26Speaker 1: listen to a word they said.
- 20:27Speaker 4: If I'm buying SI in that car by the way,
- 20:30Speaker 4: as the accident's happening, and I'm like, am I the
- 20:33Speaker 4: main character? Is there anybody else on this planet but me?
- 20:37Speaker 4: Why is this happening to me? It's absolutely insane.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godsond Company
- 20:45Speaker 2: Live Weekday, said three pm Eastern, twelve pm Pacific.
- 20:50Speaker 5: I always forget about the disclaimer that man starts talking.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Jimmy Hart, the Mouth of the South is going to
- 20:56Speaker 5: join us in.
- 20:57Speaker 1: About fifteen minutes to promote and discuss Hulk Cogan the
- 21:02Speaker 1: docu series coming out on Netflix, four part series Izzy,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I am told the Atlanta Hawks and the Knicks. Now,
- 21:09Speaker 1: it's interesting because we have two more play in games tonight,
- 21:12Speaker 1: that we have to wait a week for these play
- 21:15Speaker 1: in tournament before we get to the actual playoffs.
- 21:17Speaker 5: It drives me absolutely crazy.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But I am told here that the Knicks and the Hawks,
- 21:22Speaker 1: which is a series I think most people of all
- 21:24Speaker 1: the first round series, maybe Denver Minnesota Knicks, Hawks, or
- 21:28Speaker 1: the two series people are most looking forward to. I
- 21:31Speaker 1: would put Oklahoma City in Golden State in that category.
- 21:34Speaker 1: If Golden State could win the play in game tonight,
- 21:36Speaker 1: I just want to see what Steph does against SGA.
- 21:40Speaker 1: But I am told that the Hawks are talking a
- 21:42Speaker 1: little bit of smack as they head into this Knick
- 21:45Speaker 1: series and the Knicks. I'm telling you right now, I
- 21:47Speaker 1: said this earlier in the podcast. Jalen Brunson better get
- 21:50Speaker 1: to an NBA final. I know no one's going to
- 21:52Speaker 1: go after Jalen Brunston. I'm telling Jalen Brunson right now,
- 21:55Speaker 1: if you don't get to the NBA Finals, I'm gonna
- 21:57Speaker 1: start going after Jalen Brunson.
- 21:59Speaker 5: How about that.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I'm sure he's I'm sure he's shaking in his boots
- 22:02Speaker 4: right now, putting all the pressure on Jaalen.
- 22:04Speaker 5: But uh, there is.
- 22:06Speaker 4: One I don't know if it's all the Hawks. There's
- 22:07Speaker 4: one particular Atlanta Hawk who said something. I'm gonna have
- 22:10Speaker 4: Taylor read what he said to you, but after he
- 22:13Speaker 4: reads it, I want you to guess which Atlanta Hawks
- 22:16Speaker 4: said that is that?
- 22:17Speaker 5: Okay, yes, yes, yes.
- 22:20Speaker 3: So a Hawk was asked how important is it to
- 22:23Speaker 3: get Game one Saturday and then said hawk said, I
- 22:28Speaker 3: think it's very important to hit him in the mouth.
- 22:31Speaker 4: H wow, all right, So I have to I thought
- 22:34Speaker 4: there was a little bit more to that was that
- 22:36Speaker 4: it The added context is this this Hawk was a
- 22:41Speaker 4: Pacer last.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Year, Stu.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 3: And then they're they're asking him about the Pacers winning
- 22:47Speaker 3: Game one on the the Howilburton shot last year, and
- 22:50Speaker 3: he said The reporter asked, did you sense the Knicks
- 22:53Speaker 3: word demoralized after Game one last year? And this player said, oh,
- 22:58Speaker 3: for sure.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Okay, so it has to be someone good.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And just because Taylor said he was on the Pacers
- 23:04Speaker 1: last year, you would think that would that would be
- 23:07Speaker 1: a big clue for me.
- 23:08Speaker 5: It's not.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I have no idea who was on the Pacers last
- 23:10Speaker 1: year other than Halliburton, okay and Nemhard or something like that. Well,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I can tell you it's neither of those two, Okay,
- 23:17Speaker 1: So it's gonna have to be someone good. Trey Young
- 23:21Speaker 1: is no longer there. I am just learning that CJ
- 23:24Speaker 1: McCollum is on the Hawks. But I know CJ. He
- 23:28Speaker 1: doesn't talk like that, right, I'm gonna guess Jalen Johnson.
- 23:33Speaker 5: That's the Well wait, was he? Was he a Pacer?
- 23:36Speaker 4: No, he was not, But you know what, that's a
- 23:38Speaker 4: fine guess. It was not Jalen Johnson. You can keep guessing,
- 23:42Speaker 4: but we're not gonna have enough time in the day
- 23:43Speaker 4: because you'll never get it. It was Are you ready
- 23:46Speaker 4: for this? Yeah, Tony Bradley, who an actual UNC tar heel,
- 23:54Speaker 4: Which is this is how I knew that I really
- 23:57Speaker 4: checked out on college basketball for a few years because
- 24:00Speaker 4: to know every single tar heel that's in the NBA,
- 24:03Speaker 4: and that snuck in a Tony Bradley that I'd never
- 24:05Speaker 4: heard about. And now he's sitting here talking smack to
- 24:07Speaker 4: the New York Knicks.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Well, to be fair to you, is he Tony Bradley
- 24:13Speaker 3: played one season at North Carolina, the year that they
- 24:15Speaker 3: won the title in twenty seventeen. He was a I'm
- 24:18Speaker 3: pretty sure he was a five star recruit, but he
- 24:20Speaker 3: came off the bench for them that season. He was
- 24:22Speaker 3: like the sixth or seventh man.
- 24:24Speaker 1: If you're the Hawks coach, that's the last guy. And
- 24:26Speaker 1: I don't know who the Hawks coach is, but if
- 24:27Speaker 1: you are the Hawks coach, Quinn Snyder, that's right. I
- 24:33Speaker 1: was trying to get him on. If you are the
- 24:35Speaker 1: Hawks coach, though, that's the last guy you want saying anything, right.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I mean anybody who First of all, if you're the
- 24:42Speaker 4: sixth seed in this situation and you're the Hawks who
- 24:44Speaker 4: haven't been in the playoffs since Trey Young did his
- 24:46Speaker 4: whole dice thing or whatever that was, or was that
- 24:48Speaker 4: during the regular season, anyway, you should not be talking
- 24:51Speaker 4: smack if you are the Atlanta Hawks in general. Now,
- 24:53Speaker 4: you could argue that maybe that is very tame as
- 24:56Speaker 4: it pertains to smack talk, but you also gotta be
- 24:59Speaker 4: careful who you are, Like, you know, anything is going
- 25:01Speaker 4: to set off somebody, right, you could use anything as motivation.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Just don't give him anything, especially if you're Tony Bread.
- 25:08Speaker 1: It's the last guy you ought. If you're the Logs coach,
- 25:10Speaker 1: it's Quinn Snyder, is he? Why were you telling me
- 25:14Speaker 1: earlier that conk Nipple gets too much love? I love Conkinipple, man,
- 25:18Speaker 1: con Kanell, everybody does.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Everybody loves them some Conkinipple, and I'm not saying he
- 25:23Speaker 4: doesn't deserve some of the love, but it's driving me crazy.
- 25:27Speaker 4: The conversation now the votes are in whatever as of today,
- 25:30Speaker 4: driving me crazy. At this conversation for Rookie of the Year,
- 25:33Speaker 4: I saw Tim Bontemp said that he voted for Cooper
- 25:36Speaker 4: Flag but had a very difficult.
- 25:39Speaker 5: Time with it.
- 25:39Speaker 4: And I'm just like why. I mean, if you voted
- 25:41Speaker 4: for the right person, why'd you have a difficult time
- 25:43Speaker 4: with it?
- 25:43Speaker 5: Well, the good Cooper's great, the team wasn't very good.
- 25:47Speaker 4: But this is what bugs me. It's rookie of the year.
- 25:49Speaker 4: So Draymond Green said, when did winning stop mattering? It
- 25:53Speaker 4: never mattered and Rookie of the Year never taken from
- 25:57Speaker 4: an old head right here who has voted for years
- 26:00Speaker 4: in the day, winning never mattered for Rookie of the Year.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Let me just say this about Draymond Green. Okay, he's
- 26:06Speaker 1: lived a charmed NBA life. He landed on the right
- 26:08Speaker 1: team with the right guys, Splash Brothers, right coach and
- 26:11Speaker 1: Steve Kerr, and won a bunch of championships. If he
- 26:14Speaker 1: played on the Wizard, we wouldn't know his name. Okay,
- 26:18Speaker 1: how about that?
- 26:19Speaker 5: That's that's very true, very true.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Also, Ricardo with a great nickname for conkineppl King Kong fantastic.
- 26:26Speaker 4: We're gonna have to use that for the rest of time.
- 26:28Speaker 4: But yeah, it is. It's never winning has never mattered
- 26:33Speaker 4: when it comes to Rookie of the Year. What you
- 26:34Speaker 4: want to see from a rookie is just his ability
- 26:37Speaker 4: and and him putting it onto the court. And the
- 26:40Speaker 4: Mavericks weren't tanking, and they were utilizing him as their
- 26:45Speaker 4: main option, of course, as their number one guy. But
- 26:47Speaker 4: who else are they going to go to? Like that
- 26:49Speaker 4: wasn't something just to boost his numbers. And if you
- 26:52Speaker 4: watch or study his tape, so I'm sure you're gonna do, Stu.
- 26:55Speaker 4: From the beginning of the year to the end of
- 26:56Speaker 4: the year, Cooper got so much better. And then with
- 27:00Speaker 4: just handing guys, handing teams forty and fifty and so
- 27:04Speaker 4: conk Nipple never had that level of responsibility and would
- 27:08Speaker 4: probably look awful if we were to give him that
- 27:11Speaker 4: level of responsibility this year. So there's just no chance
- 27:14Speaker 4: that CON's Rookie of the Year. Great second option, great,
- 27:17Speaker 4: you know, number two in the voting probably in all likelihood,
- 27:21Speaker 4: and you know, off rookie first team. But get out
- 27:23Speaker 4: of here with the I had a hard time Cooper
- 27:26Speaker 4: Flags should be Rookie of the Year. The wins don't
- 27:28Speaker 4: have anything to do with it, and they again, they
- 27:30Speaker 4: weren't tanking per se.
- 27:31Speaker 5: That team was just putting people out there and losing.
- 27:33Speaker 1: The only thing I'll say in Canipple's defense is the
- 27:37Speaker 1: Hornets are a lot better, same players they added him,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and the Hornets appear to be a lot better and
- 27:43Speaker 1: have made the playoffs here or at least a playing game,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and kN K Nipple's a big part of that.
- 27:47Speaker 5: That's all. They added him.
- 27:48Speaker 4: They also at you know, they get Miles Bridges back
- 27:50Speaker 4: at a good you know condition right, he's good conditioning.
- 27:54Speaker 4: And you've got there's a couple of new guys that
- 27:55Speaker 4: they have other rookies. It wasn't just one guy changing
- 27:58Speaker 4: the team.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Stu.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I just found this stat Going back to the Knicks
- 28:03Speaker 3: for a second, where I'm now declaring tomorrow's game, Game
- 28:08Speaker 3: one a must win for the Knicks.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Boy, she's really suing over there. You gotta punch him
- 28:12Speaker 5: in the mouth. Yeah, what happened?
- 28:14Speaker 3: The Knicks have never won a series when losing game
- 28:18Speaker 3: one at home.
- 28:19Speaker 4: They've never won a series where they've lost game.
- 28:22Speaker 5: One at home. It's win important game of the series.
- 28:25Speaker 5: That yes, Stu.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Now you can see the urgency for this series. This
- 28:31Speaker 3: has to be a must win.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Now we know why the guy who played and in
- 28:35Speaker 1: the end last year said what he said, Tony Bradley.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Is that who he is? I mean, that's why he
- 28:39Speaker 5: said it. He knows, Stu.
- 28:43Speaker 3: If we open the show on Monday and we say,
- 28:47Speaker 3: who was the player who played on the Pacers last
- 28:50Speaker 3: year that said something on the Hawks this year, what
- 28:53Speaker 3: are the chances that you would remember Tony Bradley forty
- 28:55Speaker 3: eight hours from now?
- 28:57Speaker 5: That's a great question, it really is. Leave the show
- 29:00Speaker 5: with that on Monday.
- 29:01Speaker 1: By the way, I feel confident now, so I'll say
- 29:06Speaker 1: this is me being confident. Maybe a twenty five percent
- 29:10Speaker 1: chance I'll remember.
- 29:13Speaker 5: This is.
- 29:15Speaker 1: This is me and max confidence, though Okay, My pro
- 29:20Speaker 1: of the week is Aaron Judge for smiling as each
- 29:22Speaker 1: one of those home runs left the ballpark.
- 29:24Speaker 3: How about that the time of life, Aaron Judge.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Taylor is so angry.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Thank you to Todd McShay for joining us our Thanks
- 29:35Speaker 1: to Jimmy Harp Mouth of the South. This has happened
- 29:38Speaker 1: twice with Taylor where I brought him back to the
- 29:40Speaker 1: eighties when I was growing up Roger McDowell and Jimmy
- 29:43Speaker 1: Mouth of the South hard and I think Taylor love
- 29:46Speaker 1: both of them.
- 29:46Speaker 5: I do. We fell in love with the Yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 3: WWF guys always deliver.
- 29:52Speaker 5: Yes, they did F. See that makes you feel a
- 29:54Speaker 5: little right there saying WWF. It does. Yes, he used
- 29:57Speaker 5: to be wwe. Yes, they've advanced the letter right with that.
- 30:01Speaker 4: It used to be WWF and now I'm yes.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It's been a long week with a ton of pole
- 30:08Speaker 1: questions at STIG got seven ninety odd ex Taylor, let's
- 30:12Speaker 1: wrap up the week with the pole questions.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Go ahead, let's go surfing.
- 30:16Speaker 3: The Masters does feel like it was three years ago
- 30:20Speaker 3: at this point. So the first question comes from the Masters.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Will Rory start skipping every tournament to just play Augusta.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Moore, he should. Yep, he's earned it.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Nine of the audience said yes, if he doesn't have
- 30:35Speaker 4: a couple more, he'll finally get on that Mount Rushmore
- 30:37Speaker 4: that he deserves to be.
- 30:38Speaker 3: A well the guy who was wearing the eight salad
- 30:42Speaker 3: hat at Augusta have a golf podcast.
- 30:44Speaker 5: In a month? Does he have one? Do we know?
- 30:47Speaker 3: I haven't heard anything about him since.
- 30:49Speaker 5: I gotta be honest. I figured it would be about
- 30:52Speaker 5: a week.
- 30:52Speaker 1: If he doesn't have one, I'm shocked that he doesn't
- 30:55Speaker 1: have one. And if a month goes by and he
- 30:57Speaker 1: doesn't have one, Taylor get him on the phone.
- 30:59Speaker 5: Let's hire the man. Okay.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Eighty nine percent of the audience said yes. What would
- 31:05Speaker 3: you rather Coachella be a music festival or a coaching convention.
- 31:14Speaker 1: I've spoken to Phil Martelly Junior about I'm seeing this thing,
