- 0:02With. The red light.
- 0:05On I'm just waiting. For the change.
- 0:10Hi, I'm Jay Fallon, and thank you for listening to The
- 0:12Slippery Slope. So I would like to believe, I'd
- 0:15like to believe in the best in people.
- 0:17I'd like to believe that people are not out there trying to
- 0:21manipulate the system, putting things in place just so that
- 0:24they can take advantage of everyone else's disadvantage.
- 0:29When things start going wrong, when they see things wrong, they
- 0:32think, Yep, OK, we've got these things in place and now we can
- 0:35take advantage of that. We've already got this in.
- 0:38We can manipulate, we can control, we can make tonnes and
- 0:42tonnes of money out of other people's misfortune, out of
- 0:46global misfortune. We can take advantage, make
- 0:48money just billions and billions out of global war.
- 0:53I'd like to believe that there are people who aren't doing
- 0:56that. However, I seriously, seriously
- 0:59doubt it. Seriously doubt it.
- 1:01And let's look at what happened just a few short years ago in
- 1:05that little plan demic that we had and the people, the
- 1:09institutions that were taking advantage of it that just just
- 1:12happened to have things in place already said, Oh, look at this.
- 1:15We've already got this, this little gem in place and it's,
- 1:19you know, maybe you might have to pay a little fee and get this
- 1:22because we're just scaring everybody and telling everybody
- 1:25and putting things into place which says that this is mandated
- 1:29and you have to do this. You have to take this action.
- 1:33So maybe it's just the cynic in me.
- 1:36It's just the cynic in me. But I'm reading this article
- 1:39this morning. I thought, wow, this, who would
- 1:43have thought that this is where we're going?
- 1:45Well, I'll be honest, this is exactly where I thought we are
- 1:49going. Let's check out this article.
- 1:52If you're in Australia, this came out in the Courier Mail.
- 1:55Like I said, I was expecting something like this to come out.
- 1:58It's interesting. Read a grounded the headlines as
- 2:02grounded approach. Stay home and save Australia as
- 2:06always, As always, it's always hey, this is for your health,
- 2:09for your safety. This is to protect the children.
- 2:11This is to protect the old people.
- 2:13This is to protect, it's always to save someone.
- 2:15We're always saving someone and This is why we're telling you
- 2:18that this is what you must do. No ulterior motives.
- 2:21The world's energy watchdog has issued an extraordinary call for
- 2:25Australians to work from home, limit air travel and reduce
- 2:28highway speeds as the fuel prices deepens.
- 2:31The International Energy Agency, IEA on Friday advised this
- 2:35member countries, which includes Australia, the UK and the US to
- 2:40implement the emergency measures to decrease dependence on oil as
- 2:45the conflict, as the conflict in the Middle East continues to
- 2:49disrupt supply. You know, probably the most
- 2:53frustrating thing about seeing this, seeing this all unravel,
- 2:57OK, seeing this all be put into motion is as a as a kid, I
- 3:02remember you'd hear people talking older guys like people
- 3:07I'm talking when I was like, you know, young, early teenage
- 3:10years, these old guys in their 50s, sixties, whatever.
- 3:14Same. And this is just crazy that we
- 3:15don't, you know, we're not we're not refining our own oil.
- 3:19We're not doing all these things.
- 3:20We're we're bringing, we're importing all these products.
- 3:23It's, it's ridiculous how we're dependent upon other countries,
- 3:27upon this global chain, how we're not producing things here
- 3:31anymore. So what I find the most
- 3:34frustrating thing is if the every everyday Joe everyday Ozzy
- 3:41can can see this has enough enough forethought to see this
- 3:46is going to cause problems down the road.
- 3:48This is not the way to go for our country.
- 3:51Why? Why do our politicians why have
- 3:55they never seen it? Or have they actually seen it
- 3:59but they have just put their blinkers on, refused to
- 4:04acknowledge it? They know where we're going.
- 4:05They knew that one day someone knew one day this kind of thing
- 4:09would happen, but they're ready to take advantage of it.
- 4:13Am I just being way too cynical Anyway?
- 4:15So the the shock call comes as Australia's biggest businesses,
- 4:21including Uber, Virgin, Qantas, Kohl's, Woolworths, they've
- 4:25already began increasing prices or foreshadowing significant
- 4:29adjustments to their charges as they respond to rapidly
- 4:33spiralling fuel costs and the knock on supply chain effects.
- 4:37So in this statement, the IEA executive director Fatih Birol
- 4:42said Middle East conflict had triggered the largest, the
- 4:45largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil
- 4:49market. It's funny.
- 4:50You could. Like I said, it all comes from
- 4:54this one area. You know, everything is reliant
- 4:57upon this one area which has always had conflict in it.
- 5:01There's always been conflict of some sort going on.
- 5:03OK. And and yet everyone said, hey,
- 5:06great idea. Why don't we all rely on peace
- 5:10in this one area where there's virtually never been peace.
- 5:14But let's put all of our eggs virtually in one, one basket.
- 5:18Brilliant. So the conflict in the Middle
- 5:21East has created the largest supply disruption in the history
- 5:24of the global oil market. The report says three additional
- 5:27remote work days for those whose job allows it.
- 5:31These are the these are the recommendations.
- 5:34So three additional remote work days.
- 5:37OK, that could cut oil consumption from cars by 2% to
- 5:436%, with average potential reductions of around 20% for
- 5:47individual drivers. Greater adoption of electric Oh
- 5:52wow and other alternative modern cooking solutions could manage
- 5:56potential cooking fuel shortages alongside other measures to
- 6:00conserve LPG. Well, golly Gee, if only.
- 6:04If only Australia could produce its own LPG.
- 6:09If only so lowering the speed limit on highways by 10
- 6:14kilometres an hour can reduce an individuals drivers oil
- 6:19consumption by 5% to 10% and overall oil use for use by cars.
- 6:26Other recommendations included avoiding air travel where
- 6:29possible, using more public transport and adjusting air
- 6:33conditioning settings in cars and trucks.
- 6:36Yeah, that that works really well when it's 40°.
- 6:39In the absence of a swift resolution, the impacts on
- 6:43energy markets and economies are set to become more and more
- 6:46severe. So this agency was formed in the
- 6:49wake of the 1970s oil crisis to respond to global oil shortages.
- 6:54And it said in the statement that about 20 million barrels of
- 6:58crude oil and oil products typically pass through the home
- 7:01Hormuz straight. Like I said, it all passes
- 7:06through this one straight and say, let's, let's all rely on
- 7:09that for all of our oil consumption.
- 7:12Let's all rely on that for our supply.
- 7:15So the loss of these flows has tightened markets, markets
- 7:18significantly pushing crude oil prices above US $100 per barrel.
- 7:24I personally believe, I've heard others report, I personally
- 7:27believe the, the American government is actually shorting
- 7:30the market at the moment and holding back oil prices.
- 7:33I, I think my, just my opinion is that oil prices should be
- 7:38well and truly, well and truly above the $100.
- 7:42It should have been blown out of the water, blown, if you know,
- 7:47way, way above, probably more like $200 a barrel, but yet
- 7:51somehow. So yeah, there's speculation
- 7:54that they're actually, I don't know if it's actually
- 7:56speculation. They're saying they've actually
- 7:58shorting the market to to hold back oil prices.
- 8:01So the IEA's intervention comes as major Australian companies
- 8:06move to high prices in response to rising fuel prices, with
- 8:09Virgin Australia confirming on Friday it would lift airfare,
- 8:12airfares from early next week. The funny thing, they've just
- 8:17recommended that you don't, that you don't fly, you don't take
- 8:21aeroplanes. So Virgin Australia said, oh,
- 8:23you know what we should do? We should raise our air, our air
- 8:26price tickets. But they're recommending no one
- 8:30flies anyway. So you might have a bit more of
- 8:33a problem than just raising your tickets, bro.
- 8:36Costs across the aviation sector, that's not really
- 8:39interesting. So let's get down here.
- 8:41OK, So the L&P, they, they've decided here in Queensland that,
- 8:45you know, look at this, we've got permanent $0.50 fares here
- 8:49to stay, which is just taxpayer funded.
- 8:52So you know, it's, it's great the LNP are doing it.
- 8:55But hey, it's the taxpayer that are funding all this.
- 8:58The federal government has assured the public, they've
- 9:02reassured us. Let's remember that the federal
- 9:05government, and not just this one, but federal government
- 9:08across decades now, they are responsible for the predicament
- 9:13that we Australians find ourselves in right now.
- 9:16Because like I said, the everyday Aussie, the everyday
- 9:19Aussie bloke, everyday Aussie female, saw this coming decades
- 9:23ago, knew that you shouldn't rely on a global, a global
- 9:27market like this and just have all your eggs in one basket.
- 9:30That you should be able to produce things that are a
- 9:32necessity for life. But no, we haven't done this.
- 9:38We put all eggs in one basket. We, you know, I mean they're
- 9:42talking about LBG shortages, but yet we produce a, we're, we're a
- 9:47major supplier of LBG globally, so we should not have a problem.
- 9:53So in Queensland, let me get we're.
- 9:55So while States and territories are keeping an eye close eye on
- 9:59the evolving situation overseas and shortages in their own
- 10:02jurisdictions, in Queensland the situation has not reached the
- 10:06point where the government needs to direct fuel distribution.
- 10:09It hasn't, but it could really realistically at any any moment
- 10:14with the market still expected to be to meet demand in affected
- 10:17regional areas. We're going to find out at the
- 10:20very last minute that's how it's all going to play out because
- 10:23the government's going to keep just keep soothing everyone,
- 10:26just keep putting out good little messages.
- 10:28Now everything's under control. Everything's under control until
- 10:31they can't hide it anymore and then it's going to be, Oh my
- 10:35goodness, we're all in trouble. That's what's going to happen, I
- 10:37think. So the government is instead
- 10:39maintaining real time monitoring of supply, prices and
- 10:43distribution constraints while holding daily talks with fuel
- 10:47companies and major users. The Demographic Group Co founder
- 10:50Simon blah blah Blah was blunt when warning about what impacts
- 10:54were still to come. The production of every good
- 10:58that you purchase is going up in price.
- 11:02Everything that you purchase is being trucked around, all being
- 11:06flown into Australia. The whole supply chain costs
- 11:08escalate as fuel costs go up. So Mr Queston Macha warned
- 11:15prices would be increased sooner rather than later.
- 11:18I mean sooner. We all know this.
- 11:20As soon as they announced the war, virtually fuel prices went
- 11:24up magically, even though the the, the, the diesel that was in
- 11:28the ground already in the tanks already was what we'd bought,
- 11:31you know, for a cheaper price. But somehow it magically made
- 11:34diesel go up a dollar overnight. And remember diesel?
- 11:38I'm saying this because my car takes diesel.
- 11:40Diesel used to be the cheaper fuel.
- 11:42It used to be $0.20 cheaper than unleaded.
- 11:45Now for some reason, it's $0.50 more expensive than unleaded.
- 11:49I wonder why that happened. It's not the fact that anyone is
- 11:53taking advantage of, you know, of the markets, not nothing at
- 11:57all. So anyway, it says in this
- 12:01environment, absolutely everyone expects price rises.
- 12:04Therefore, we have the risk that a business just increases prices
- 12:07and pockets higher margins. Yeah.
- 12:11Or maybe people just stop spending and just buy the basics
- 12:14and people start going bankrupt. Bust.
- 12:20So, Amy, just a cynic. Am I just a cynic?
- 12:24Please let me know what you think.
- 12:25I believe that soon we are going to see the government stepping
- 12:29in, pushing further restrictions.
- 12:34We will see fuel shortages. I think that's what's going to
- 12:38happen. I think we're going to see fuel
- 12:39shortages. We're going to see major price
- 12:42rises within our food, food products and with fuel.
- 12:48They'll probably end up putting restrictions in and not allowing
- 12:51people to use their vehicles whenever you want to go wherever
- 12:56you want. I think that's the kind of
- 12:58restrictions that are coming. I think they've already, they've
- 13:01already put things in place when we had the play endemic a couple
- 13:04of years ago, just they were testing the waters just to see
- 13:07how far they can push it. And now they're going to see
- 13:10again how far can they push it? What kind of things can they
- 13:14bring in? What kind of laws can they bring
- 13:16in quickly? What kind of mandates can they
- 13:19bring in? We've got all these hate speech
- 13:21laws that were rushed in, You know, heaven forbid anyone
- 13:24stands up and says anything against the government.
- 13:26What kind of what kind of changes could they make to the
- 13:29hate speech laws to clamp down on speech?
- 13:32Anyone speaking out? I don't know, but this all seems
- 13:37way too convenient to me. These things.
- 13:41It was like I said, if people 40-50 years ago, we're talking
- 13:47about this, talking about how this is something dangerous for
- 13:50our nation, we should not be putting ourselves in this kind
- 13:53of situation where we rely on global supply chains.
- 13:57We need to be able to produce our own energy, produce our own
- 14:01food. We need to be able to be self
- 14:02sufficient because we're an island nation and not rely on
- 14:06big boats coming in to supply us for everything.
- 14:09If people could see that, you know, 50 years ago, why the heck
- 14:15didn't our governments do anything about it?
- 14:17Because in reality someone else out there is manipulating
- 14:22everything. Someone else out there out there
- 14:24is manipulating and taking advantage of our disadvantage.
- 14:29And they will be making tonnes and tonnes of money, tonnes of
- 14:34money out of it. I believe that's exactly what's
- 14:38happening and the government will just be there again,
- 14:41testing the waters. What laws can they push through?
- 14:44What mandates can they can they push through?
- 14:47What can they make Australians do?
- 14:49They've already done it with the the plan endemic a couple of
- 14:52years ago, but how far can we push it now?
- 14:55That's where I think we're going.
- 14:56I think you need to get prepared.
- 14:58I'm not saying, you know, be a prepper or anything extreme, but
- 15:02have some forethought. Don't be like the Australian
- 15:04government and just bury your head in the sand.
- 15:08Someone wasn't burying their head in the sand.
- 15:10Some people knew exactly what was going to be happening and
- 15:14some people are going to be making tonnes and tonnes of
- 15:16money out of it because they are prepared and they are ready and
- 15:19they're just taking advantage of it.
- 15:21And now silly government is just going along for the ride and
- 15:24we're going to be paying the price.
- 15:25Let me know what you think, I'd like to know more.
- 15:30My name is Jay Fallon. Thanks for listening to the
- 15:32Slippery Slope. They just feel.
- 15:34The desire they will take me higher.
- 15:36I'm on fire because nothing's gonna bring me down.
- 15:38Nothing's gonna bring me down and nothing's gonna stop me now.
- 15:41And no one needs to be done. And sound on my soldiers stands
- 15:54on me. And nothing's gonna stop.
- 16:03I'm alive and nothing's going to hold me down.
- 16:08Got my eye on the eyes. Got my side on the floor it
- 16:19seems. Don't say Nothing's going to
- 16:25Nothing's going to stop me. Nothing's going to stop me now.
