- 0:07Speaker 1: What's up everybody. Welcome to move the sticks, DJ, Bucky,
- 0:10Speaker 1: our good friend Rhett back with you as we are
- 0:13Speaker 1: at week one.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Boys.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We made it, we have We've grinded, We've powered our
- 0:18Speaker 1: way through. Fortunately the pottery is still live in baseball,
- 0:20Speaker 1: which is a nice street. But nonetheless, it's football season.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's the NFL is here. First of all, Rhett, welcome back.
- 0:27Speaker 3: To the to Thank you guys, Thank you man. It's
- 0:29Speaker 3: great to be back. This is like, you know, this
- 0:32Speaker 3: is like football heaven right here. Though. We just we
- 0:35Speaker 3: just wrapped Week one in earnest at college football. Now
- 0:38Speaker 3: we get game week in the league like it's this.
- 0:41Speaker 3: This has got the juice has flowing a little bit today,
- 0:43Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Yeah, week Yeah, I'm excited.
- 0:47Speaker 2: We've got a short week.
- 0:48Speaker 4: We got a Thursday game coming up Kansas City Baltimore,
- 0:51Speaker 4: so it should be a lot of fun looking forward
- 0:53Speaker 4: to it.
- 0:54Speaker 1: All right, we're getting into a record groove now. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: this is what these Monday shows are, sorry I should
- 0:58Speaker 1: say early shows. We did not go yet today because
- 1:00Speaker 1: of the Labor Day, but during this season will be
- 1:04Speaker 1: four a week. No Bill can put it in the
- 1:05Speaker 1: chat if I'm mistaken, but I believe we will have
- 1:07Speaker 1: four episodes five five episodes a week, five Yeah, making
- 1:12Speaker 1: us work five episodes a week. So we are going
- 1:14Speaker 1: to be jam packed full of stuff, including one of
- 1:17Speaker 1: our favorite things to do, which we started last year,
- 1:19Speaker 1: which is the Rookie Draft. So every week it's basically
- 1:22Speaker 1: fantasy football, but it's just four rookies. So we like
- 1:26Speaker 1: to talk about the guys we just talked about in
- 1:28Speaker 1: the run up to the draft, kind of guide them
- 1:30Speaker 1: through their freshman campaign here in the NFL. So we
- 1:33Speaker 1: will have that coming up a little bit later on
- 1:35Speaker 1: today's show. Also going to have some hits and misses,
- 1:38Speaker 1: which is an old favorite from the pod. We'll bring back.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'll give you a report on somebody that I got
- 1:42Speaker 1: right when I got wrong. We're gonna have a little
- 1:44Speaker 1: shot on that. But before we get to the NFL stuff, guys,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I feel like we do need to recap which was
- 1:49Speaker 1: a pretty wild weekend of college football. Buck what was
- 1:53Speaker 1: your big takeaways from the college football weekend?
- 1:56Speaker 4: We can pour a little dirt on Florida State, Baby
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yanks rap like it's unfortunate that we're only we're only
- 2:04Speaker 4: three days in September and the season is already overformed.
- 2:07Speaker 2: But it's over for the nose.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look, it's hard to argue with that, right,
- 2:12Speaker 3: I mean, after getting upset by Georgia Tech then upset
- 2:15Speaker 3: by BC at home.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Oh hey, Rhett, Rhett, quick question? Who are the two
- 2:21Speaker 1: teams that have dominated the ACC for the last decade?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Who are the two programs that'll be?
- 2:27Speaker 3: Florida State and Clemson?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Florida State and Clemson Florida State style starts out oh
- 2:31Speaker 1: and two. And I'm just gonna say, I don't know
- 2:33Speaker 1: a lot about cooking, all right, but I know that
- 2:36Speaker 1: you before you put the meat on the grill, you
- 2:38Speaker 1: like to tenderize it. And I like to think that
- 2:41Speaker 1: the Georgia Bulldogs did app State a little favor last
- 2:43Speaker 1: week as we had to take on Clemson. See if
- 2:46Speaker 1: we can't get Clemson to join their their brethren Florida
- 2:49Speaker 1: State and the oh and two club.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Can I can I give my takeaway here real quick?
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Idaho, here it comes the Big ten reign
- 2:59Speaker 3: Supreme Oh Big and one on opening weekend? Never mind
- 3:06Speaker 3: U n C. Never mind well, I mean that, by
- 3:09Speaker 3: the way, the funny part about.
- 3:10Speaker 1: That, you wouldn't have that I.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Missed the Dragon Dragon kess that you missed two field
- 3:17Speaker 3: goals in that game is like the best kicker in
- 3:18Speaker 3: the league. He's like one of the best kickers at
- 3:20Speaker 3: college football. Missed it anyway. That's but the Big Ten
- 3:24Speaker 3: versus SEC battle notch one in the Big Ten in
- 3:27Speaker 3: the Big Ten column for week one in this opening
- 3:30Speaker 3: salvo here, Okay, of the biggest and best college football
- 3:33Speaker 3: season ever. So I feel I feel pretty good about.
- 3:36Speaker 1: That, except though, Buck that the SEC, I mean they
- 3:39Speaker 1: still Georgia look like best in show. Uh, I mean,
- 3:44Speaker 1: just speak the taste out of the mouth of Clemson.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Alabama really really struggled, uh with with with Kilen debor
- 3:50Speaker 1: regime where they went by one hundred points.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Uh.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And so you've got in Tennessee. How do you pronounce
- 3:55Speaker 1: that kid's last name? By the way, Buck, he is,
- 3:57Speaker 1: He's a really talented quarterback man.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I wouldn't try and pronounce I'll just call him Nico.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Nico can spin it and he can run. So, I mean,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I think there's still those top old miss look good.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Jackson Dart was throwing it all over the place. So yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 1: that's true. The heavyweights though, of the Big ten and
- 4:18Speaker 1: the SEC. That's gonna be. I mean, that's gonna be.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I mean we're fast forwarded the playoff buck, Yeah, that's
- 4:23Speaker 1: gonna be. That's gonna be. Seven eight of the teams, Man.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And Penn State looked much better. Yes, offense, I mean
- 4:30Speaker 3: the defense has always been pretty good, but like offense
- 4:33Speaker 3: was a big improvement and that that's gonna be a
- 4:34Speaker 3: fun story line to follow throughout the season.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It look it will be. But look, can we can
- 4:39Speaker 2: we not?
- 4:40Speaker 4: I know we're like on the West Coast and we
- 4:42Speaker 4: tend to have recency bias and local bias, but can
- 4:45Speaker 4: we talk about the Trojans a little bit? And I'm
- 4:49Speaker 4: not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie, guys. I did
- 4:51Speaker 4: not see that coming. I did not see the Trojans
- 4:54Speaker 4: kind of putting their hands on the L s U Tigers.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But anytime you have Brian Kelly branded only on the
- 5:01Speaker 4: table talking about upset, I mean that's the Brian Killer
- 5:06Speaker 4: that I that I know and loved, and one from Cincinnati,
- 5:08Speaker 4: Notre Dame.
- 5:09Speaker 2: He finally showed up.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Guys, I'm not certainly not like tooting the horn here,
- 5:13Speaker 3: but I had an opportunity to see I've seen USC
- 5:16Speaker 3: in person a couple of times now. This twenty twenty
- 5:18Speaker 3: four version of the USC Trojans started with the spring
- 5:22Speaker 3: game where they forced five turnovers on defense right against
- 5:25Speaker 3: Lincoln Riley's offense. Danton Lnn is the DC I think
- 5:28Speaker 3: makes a huge difference. He's got those guys rolling man
- 5:31Speaker 3: and they got contributions, you know, in a lot of
- 5:34Speaker 3: different ways. On defense. They were a good tackling team
- 5:37Speaker 3: in this game. They put some pressure on us my
- 5:40Speaker 3: I mean, like, look, Mesmeer was pretty good in this
- 5:41Speaker 3: game too. Both quarterbacks were pretty dang good in this game.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It was just a day Taylor was. Yeah, it was
- 5:47Speaker 3: a difference of big plays, right, big play, I mean,
- 5:50Speaker 3: like USC great doubled them in big plays, essentially explosive plays.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And so I love Miller Moss's moxie in this one.
- 5:58Speaker 3: He took a couple of big hits, some of his
- 5:59Speaker 3: biggest threat throws where he was under the most arrests,
- 6:02Speaker 3: which I thought was pretty cool too. So there's a
- 6:04Speaker 3: lot to like about USC squad. I am really fired
- 6:07Speaker 3: up my second game for Big ten networks in the
- 6:09Speaker 3: coliseum this weekend against Utah State, So I want to
- 6:11Speaker 3: get another one. Next one, I.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Want to revisit something Buck, that we had talked about,
- 6:16Speaker 1: which was one of the major changes in college football,
- 6:19Speaker 1: was the helmet communication now between your play caller and
- 6:22Speaker 1: your quarterback. And because of the pace of play in
- 6:25Speaker 1: college where everybody's in tempo and you can go temple
- 6:28Speaker 1: because you have roster depth more so than a fifty
- 6:31Speaker 1: three man roster, so you can afford to play faster,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and it's going to give more time for the play
- 6:37Speaker 1: caller to spend in the helmet of the quarterback. So
- 6:40Speaker 1: who does that provide the biggest advantage? Who are the
- 6:43Speaker 1: two names that we mentioned Buck, Lane Kiffin and Lincoln
- 6:46Speaker 1: Riley are two guys that will benefit greatly from this.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And Lane Kiffin that was I mean, that was just
- 6:53Speaker 1: that was a layup line in that game. I mean
- 6:56Speaker 1: that was a piece of cake. And then Lincoln Riley
- 6:58Speaker 1: for a quarterback making a second start against you know ls.
- 7:01Speaker 1: She wasn't good on defense last year, but they got
- 7:02Speaker 1: a lot of dudes. That's a raucous environment. And I
- 7:05Speaker 1: thought Miller Moss played great and I think a lot
- 7:07Speaker 1: of that. I give Miller Moss a lot of credit
- 7:09Speaker 1: for that, obviously, but I think Lincoln Riley having comms
- 7:13Speaker 1: later into the end of the process is going to
- 7:15Speaker 1: be a huge, huge advantage in that and the other
- 7:18Speaker 1: thing that I'll add. The other thing that I'll add
- 7:20Speaker 1: real quick. I had tweeted this out because everybody on
- 7:24Speaker 1: on Twitter was eviscerating Lincoln Riley. He's wasting his timeouts
- 7:28Speaker 1: in the second half and just oh, they're not gonna
- 7:30Speaker 1: have any time outs left. And I'm sitting here going like, okay,
- 7:33Speaker 1: am I taking crazy pills? Or is this this kid's
- 7:35Speaker 1: second start? And there's there's confusion there. You're trying to
- 7:40Speaker 1: run the play on, You're getting personnel out there. The
- 7:42Speaker 1: last thing I want is a chaotic you know, snap,
- 7:46Speaker 1: we got lineman, don't know the snap count the balls
- 7:48Speaker 1: on the ground like I'm not new, whoa, whoa. Let's
- 7:50Speaker 1: just calm down. If if using a timeout early prevents
- 7:54Speaker 1: us from turning the ball over in a one possession game,
- 7:57Speaker 1: then I don't give a cred about burning my timeouts.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But to me, I think nobody ever talks about the
- 8:02Speaker 1: other side of that of why they used timeouts like
- 8:04Speaker 1: that instead of saying, Oh, as a coach, Buck, you
- 8:06Speaker 1: just have to have all your timeouts coming to the
- 8:08Speaker 1: end of the game. That's your job. Like, that's not
- 8:10Speaker 1: how it works.
- 8:11Speaker 2: It's not how it works.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I mean, you need to use them when you need
- 8:13Speaker 4: to use them. You would like to keep at least
- 8:15Speaker 4: one in your back pocket, but sometimes it's more important
- 8:17Speaker 4: to get to play right in the moment. And when
- 8:20Speaker 4: I think about Lincoln Riley and Miller Moss, it kind
- 8:23Speaker 4: of reminds me of a Crosstown team, the LA Rams,
- 8:26Speaker 4: when Sean McVay took open for jery Goff, and we
- 8:29Speaker 4: saw that offense in La with the Rams absolutely explode
- 8:33Speaker 4: with Sean mcmay. Sean McVay able to, I would say,
- 8:36Speaker 4: exploit the tactics of the communication device with jery Goff
- 8:39Speaker 4: made the game very easy for him. And Look, it
- 8:42Speaker 4: unfairly painted a picture for jery Goff like he was
- 8:45Speaker 4: just a robot, but it certainly helped him work out
- 8:48Speaker 4: of the slump that he was in under the previous
- 8:50Speaker 4: staff and he became a much better player.
- 8:52Speaker 2: For Miller Moss, look is bowling with bumpers.
- 8:55Speaker 4: It's allowing him to get his confidence until about the
- 8:58Speaker 4: middle of the season. He's able to handle those situations
- 9:01Speaker 4: on his own. It's one of the things that people
- 9:03Speaker 4: didn't talk about, but it's a huge that's set to
- 9:06Speaker 4: the quarterback to be.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Able to have the coach so called hold on right
- 9:10Speaker 1: one sec because I want to just follow that up
- 9:11Speaker 1: real quick with you, Buck, because remember we had said
- 9:13Speaker 1: the people were wondering like how much the communication Like, okay,
- 9:16Speaker 1: what's a what's an example of how that communication can help.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'll give you one quick play. One quick example. You
- 9:22Speaker 1: have an r PO called right. So if you're if
- 9:25Speaker 1: you're last year, that play call is signaled in. You
- 9:29Speaker 1: can't you're not talking to him. So it's just the
- 9:31Speaker 1: card and Okay, I'm the quarterback. I look to the sideline,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I get the formation, I get the play call, I
- 9:36Speaker 1: communicate that we go so say it's an it's an
- 9:38Speaker 1: r p O right. How about when you're when you're
- 9:41Speaker 1: in this situation, you can go, hey, uh, here's a
- 9:45Speaker 1: play called blah blah blah, and then hey, hey if
- 9:47Speaker 1: the linebacker, if the linebacker pulls up, look at the
- 9:49Speaker 1: tight end. Look at the tight end like yeah, you
- 9:51Speaker 1: can give him that little key that little Hey, hey,
- 9:54Speaker 1: the linebacker's up, just peak the tight end before you
- 9:56Speaker 1: before you go, and so bam and to hit and
- 9:59Speaker 1: and you can just leak him like there's these little
- 10:01Speaker 1: that is that's a huge play in that game. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: maybe that was designed all week and they knew that's
- 10:05Speaker 1: where that ball was going to go. But there's multiple
- 10:08Speaker 1: options in that call, and you can put an emphasis
- 10:11Speaker 1: on a play call instead of just getting it from
- 10:12Speaker 1: the card.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And here's here's another way that I'll say it, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: talking to Will Stein, the Oregon offensive coordinator ahead of
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, my game again between Oregon and Idaho, we
- 10:22Speaker 3: were asking a bunch of time we spent in that
- 10:24Speaker 3: production meeting on how they're using the helmet comms and
- 10:28Speaker 3: it's a factor and it adds another layer to their tempo. Right, so, hey,
- 10:33Speaker 3: they finish a play, bam, they're on the line of scrimmage.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Within six seven seconds they get up there. Now he's
- 10:38Speaker 3: got twenty seconds sets and that's just what And Dylan
- 10:41Speaker 3: Gabriel's got his eyes on the defense the whole time
- 10:44Speaker 3: as opposed to the eyes to the sideline looking and
- 10:47Speaker 3: Will's in his ear the whole time saying, hey, this
- 10:49Speaker 3: is what we got. Let's wait, We're gonna wait, We're
- 10:51Speaker 3: gonna wait. All right, they're gonna declare, we're gonna try
- 10:53Speaker 3: to get into a personnel grouping that has some indicators
- 10:56Speaker 3: for us. We're gonna see it. And then with with
- 10:58Speaker 3: eighteen seconds, he can go. You know, whatever their language is,
- 11:01Speaker 3: it's play one. Dylan gets that out boot fifteen seconds
- 11:04Speaker 3: clocks or you know, the communications off that ball, snap
- 11:07Speaker 3: and they are rolling. That's a new layer of tempo
- 11:10Speaker 3: that gives it. You know, now they have more different
- 11:12Speaker 3: ways they can run this thing in terms of getting
- 11:13Speaker 3: up the line of scrimmage. That's pretty valuable too.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Now, yeah, I think that's really valued because I think
- 11:18Speaker 4: it forces the defense to always be on go. You
- 11:22Speaker 4: can limit the substitution, declare and you have to declare
- 11:27Speaker 4: what it is. But also you can play fast or
- 11:30Speaker 4: slow with that. You can have them lining up, sitting
- 11:32Speaker 4: in this stance a long time and just kind of
- 11:35Speaker 4: going through it and whether you have to help the
- 11:37Speaker 4: quarterback or not. There's an advantage to kind of making
- 11:40Speaker 4: the defense simplify and just kind of play like toy soldiers.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And the other takeaway. You know, there's so many different
- 11:47Speaker 1: layers to this first full weekend of college football. But
- 11:51Speaker 1: one thing as we start to transition towards the NFL,
- 11:54Speaker 1: one other thought that I had, which I think makes
- 11:58Speaker 1: a lot of sense. We've talked about these receivers coming
- 12:02Speaker 1: into the NFL and having an immediate impact. We've seen
- 12:04Speaker 1: it with rookies over the last few years. We're going
- 12:06Speaker 1: to have a rookie draft in just a few minutes
- 12:09Speaker 1: or we're going to have a plethora of wide receivers
- 12:11Speaker 1: to choose from who we think could have immediate impact.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And what we saw in the college football weekend was
- 12:18Speaker 1: true freshman wide receivers at Ohio State Alabama. I mean
- 12:23Speaker 1: going off because it's the transition for a wide out.
- 12:28Speaker 1: They're so well trained now from high school to college
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's not a big deal. And from the college to
- 12:33Speaker 1: the NFL buck I feel like these guys they can
- 12:35Speaker 1: take off like a rocket when they get to the
- 12:38Speaker 1: next level. It's not an adjustment period anymore.
- 12:41Speaker 2: No is not an adjustment period.
- 12:43Speaker 4: And it's one of those things that we will talk
- 12:45Speaker 4: about the trickle up effect in terms of these young
- 12:48Speaker 4: wide receivers making plays right away, not only at the
- 12:51Speaker 4: collegiate level, but eventually they make plays early in their
- 12:53Speaker 4: careers at the NFL level just because they exposed to
- 12:57Speaker 4: so many things early because of seven oh seven back
- 13:00Speaker 4: football and those things. But to watch the college game
- 13:03Speaker 4: where these guys are just kind of I mean, just
- 13:05Speaker 4: jumping into the mix and having success, you gotta love it.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And this is a conversation for later day.
- 13:12Speaker 4: But when it comes to wide receivers, man, the conversation
- 13:15Speaker 4: that we're going to continue to have into the draft
- 13:17Speaker 4: with Travis Hunter playing wide receiver MDB.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And the decision don't have to wind out, man, Yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 1: like what.
- 13:25Speaker 2: The money says, played wide out?
- 13:27Speaker 3: Yes, yes, of course. Can I give just quick takeaway
- 13:30Speaker 3: on the game that I was at, just because it
- 13:32Speaker 3: featured the number three team in the country, it didn't
- 13:34Speaker 3: necessarily play like it against Idaho, by the way, is
- 13:36Speaker 3: a feisty FCS team. They're going to make some noise
- 13:39Speaker 3: in the FCS playoffs. Jason x done a great job
- 13:41Speaker 3: there at as the head coach at Idaho. But for
- 13:44Speaker 3: Dan LANNINGSTA I mean, like this to kind of relate
- 13:46Speaker 3: to our purposes here for draft evaluation. They had a
- 13:48Speaker 3: program record eight guys drafted last year, right a bunch
- 13:52Speaker 3: of guys on on Day three. I had some high,
- 13:53Speaker 3: high draft picks as well, but a bunch of guys
- 13:56Speaker 3: went you know, in the fourth through seventh rounds too.
- 14:00Speaker 3: But you know, I was talking to a couple of
- 14:02Speaker 3: different teams ahead of this game, and I got anywhere
- 14:04Speaker 3: between seventeen and nineteen draftable grades right now on guys
- 14:08Speaker 3: at Oregon going into this season. Now, obviously that's going
- 14:11Speaker 3: to change right as we go through the season. Those
- 14:13Speaker 3: numbers are you know, they'll fluctuate, but that's huge. I mean,
- 14:16Speaker 3: like they'll blow that that eight number off the water
- 14:18Speaker 3: next year most likely. I think Terrence Ferguson is one
- 14:21Speaker 3: of those guys you know, at the tight end spot
- 14:24Speaker 3: that's probably top three in his class based on where
- 14:26Speaker 3: he's at right now, going in Luke Lash, Colson Lovelin,
- 14:30Speaker 3: you know those guys Iowa and Michigan up there. So
- 14:33Speaker 3: Ferg's an awesome dude, awesome guy, right, I mean, like
- 14:36Speaker 3: NFL teams are gonna love him, and he's just an
- 14:38Speaker 3: absolute beast. But I went up and talked to him
- 14:40Speaker 3: after the game and I was like, hey, man, look,
- 14:42Speaker 3: I'm know I'm probably not telling you stuff. You don't
- 14:43Speaker 3: already know, but you know, most of the teams I
- 14:46Speaker 3: talked to have you as, you know, top three guy
- 14:48Speaker 3: in this class at tight end. He's like, man, I
- 14:50Speaker 3: gotta get rolling then because I want to be number one.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I was like, that's a pretty cool little mindset, you
- 14:55Speaker 3: know to have week one, you know, after you just
- 14:58Speaker 3: got you know, put the test by an SCS squad
- 15:01Speaker 3: like that. Dude's focused and he's focused more this year
- 15:05Speaker 3: on becoming a better all around player, a little bit
- 15:08Speaker 3: more of a you know, physical presence in addition to
- 15:10Speaker 3: his receiving threat. So something to watch.
- 15:12Speaker 1: One piece of homework for yourrett, Because you've mentioned that
- 15:15Speaker 1: you've got Utah State at the coliseum against USC, so
- 15:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you get to spend some time with the Trojans. Yes,
- 15:21Speaker 1: So this would be the question I'd love to ask.
- 15:24Speaker 1: How do they view the fact I was just went
- 15:26Speaker 1: to their box score and I did not see any
- 15:29Speaker 1: like true freshman. I don't think that that did anything
- 15:33Speaker 1: in that game, which I almost viewed it as a positive,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and that they've kind of developed guys up from within
- 15:40Speaker 1: and then they've gone out in the transfer portal and
- 15:41Speaker 1: got a bunch of guys as well, upperclassmen guys. All
- 15:44Speaker 1: those receivers are true sophomores that they have there. But
- 15:47Speaker 1: I almost think it's kind of like an old school
- 15:50Speaker 1: approach of development of we have they had, I think
- 15:54Speaker 1: twenty something high school kids of like, hey, red shirts, Hayley,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Let's let's take our time, let's put the weight on him,
- 16:01Speaker 1: let's get him ready to go. The other side of
- 16:03Speaker 1: it is some of the five star mentality, and Buck,
- 16:05Speaker 1: you can touch on that. I think some parts of
- 16:08Speaker 1: USC that maybe got away from him was there was
- 16:11Speaker 1: I don't want to say it's like an entitlement that
- 16:12Speaker 1: comes with the five star mentality, but there was some
- 16:15Speaker 1: of that. This felt more like a blue collar USC team,
- 16:20Speaker 1: And I just be curious what they would say about that.
- 16:22Speaker 1: What do you think about that?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Buck?
- 16:23Speaker 4: I agree, And I think what was interesting is the
- 16:26Speaker 4: conversation that came out of that locker room afterwards. One
- 16:29Speaker 4: having known Miller Moss, you know, because obviously he's a
- 16:33Speaker 4: local kid. He played at Ali Manning before bouncing around
- 16:36Speaker 4: a little bit. But look, man, the humility that your
- 16:38Speaker 4: quarterback displays, I think it is spreads throughout the team.
- 16:41Speaker 4: The fact that he was like a three or four star,
- 16:44Speaker 4: the fact that he has had to patiently wait for
- 16:45Speaker 4: his opportunity. I think the team feeds off of that.
- 16:49Speaker 4: And because he is what I call everybody's man like,
- 16:53Speaker 4: everyone can relate to him.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I think this team has built differently. But you're right, DJ, they.
- 16:58Speaker 4: Don't have a lot of of that five star field
- 17:02Speaker 4: they felt to him in the past. It seems like
- 17:05Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley has been very intentional about how he's rebuilt
- 17:09Speaker 4: this team this year. And from a cultural standpoint, they
- 17:12Speaker 4: do have more blue collar workerbee types as opposed to
- 17:15Speaker 4: the megastars that have kind of been dot in the
- 17:17Speaker 4: locker room the last couple of years.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I got it on the notes, boys. We'll talk to
- 17:22Speaker 3: Lincoln and Company about that this week in the production meetings.
- 17:25Speaker 1: There you go, there you go. See RHTT does his homework. Baby,
- 17:29Speaker 1: that's what we're talking about here. All right, let's take
- 17:31Speaker 1: quick break. We come back. We've got a couple things
- 17:33Speaker 1: coming right. We've got the first rookie draft for week one.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's here. We made it. And then also a little hits,
- 17:38Speaker 1: some misses to close us out today. But we'll take
- 17:40Speaker 1: a break. We'll be right back right after this all right, Look,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I don't make the rules here, guys. Nebill has done
- 17:49Speaker 1: the draft order. I'm just letting it. Let you know
- 17:51Speaker 1: right now, I had nothing to do with this, nothing
- 17:54Speaker 1: to do with this. He's got me with the first pick.
- 17:56Speaker 1: We're snake drafting here, Bucky's second. Then Rhet, you get
- 17:59Speaker 1: the turns, you get to go back to back here
- 18:01Speaker 1: three four.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:03Speaker 1: This is now Nobil's saying we'll rotate it. Yeah, I
- 18:05Speaker 1: know we're going to rotate it every week. Deal, but
- 18:07Speaker 1: it's just kind of where it started. Yeah, but this
- 18:10Speaker 1: we're changing it up. We can be flexible with the
- 18:13Speaker 1: with the roster composition rules to this thing we were
- 18:15Speaker 1: last year, uh this year because we need to see
- 18:20Speaker 1: the running back thing kind of develop a little figure
- 18:23Speaker 1: it out a little bit, because right now, dime bre
- 18:26Speaker 1: you're dime Brie. Wasn't a great running back class, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: we don't have a lot of guys ticketed for a
- 18:32Speaker 1: bunch of carries. So instead of us kind of scraping
- 18:35Speaker 1: together names, why do that when we h we have
- 18:37Speaker 1: so many other pass catchers from from wide outs and
- 18:40Speaker 1: tight ends to choose from. So still three players apiece,
- 18:44Speaker 1: Still the standard rules that we had in terms of
- 18:45Speaker 1: scoring that we used last year to calculate this stuff.
- 18:48Speaker 1: But we're gonna do it. Is you got to take
- 18:50Speaker 1: one quarterback and then you can take two skill guys. Offensively,
- 18:54Speaker 1: it could be you know, if you want to take
- 18:55Speaker 1: a running back knock yourself out, you can do that.
- 18:58Speaker 1: But all the wideouts and tight ends are are at
- 19:00Speaker 1: your disposal. So I'm going to start things off first.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Here I have the first pick, and with my first selection,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Marvin Harrison Junior.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Oh alrighty, all right, let's.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Keep it name brand here. We're gonna keep right. Hey,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I got my golf shirt on and I'm just trying
- 19:21Speaker 1: to put it in the fairway. Boys, I'm not trying
- 19:22Speaker 1: to get too risky here. Let's just put it right in.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Like I had to go out on the top of
- 19:27Speaker 4: my charts, I was ready to do some wild and Outlanta,
- 19:30Speaker 4: so I was gonna go like, hey, let's go get
- 19:31Speaker 4: this wide out. Yeah, and so now I'm all upset
- 19:35Speaker 4: and and kind of out of so let's do this.
- 19:41Speaker 4: My whole plan is to make sure I take someone
- 19:43Speaker 4: that has fed the ball, and so let's go get
- 19:45Speaker 4: Elik neighbors with the second overall pick LSU ready to rock,
- 19:51Speaker 4: and we're gonna put points on board.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I mean, okay, you guys, you guys took the the
- 19:58Speaker 3: top two wide receivers. Certainly plenty of actually we had.
- 20:03Speaker 2: But did we did?
- 20:03Speaker 1: We?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Mm hmmm?
- 20:06Speaker 3: I think you did. I think you did. So there's
- 20:12Speaker 3: a lot available. Yeah, and and look, it's going to
- 20:14Speaker 3: take a minute to figure all this out. I'm I'm
- 20:16Speaker 3: almost thinking about a stack here. Boys, I'm almost thinking
- 20:20Speaker 3: about a stack here.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I know you're going to go to Chicago're going to Shytown,
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah town, aren't you.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm a little concerned
- 20:27Speaker 3: about target share.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I was worried about.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Love obviously, So give me Caleb Williams. I'm just gonna
- 20:36Speaker 3: go ahead and get my quarterback. Let's just go Caleb here,
- 20:38Speaker 3: Let's just do that, all right.
- 20:40Speaker 2: What a great what a great job at a scouting department.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Wow, gym, And you know what, be careful balancing on
- 20:50Speaker 1: that limb out there by the way. Don't want you
- 20:52Speaker 1: to get hurt.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you, thank you. I appreciate I appreciate all
- 20:55Speaker 3: that I want to have a little I feel like
- 20:58Speaker 3: I want to have a little action on Thursday night.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Give me saf you're worthy? Uh here in Kansas City
- 21:03Speaker 3: Chiefs as my wide receiver.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Is this gonna be like your gosh, who was your guy?
- 21:09Speaker 2: You have the Arizona guy?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Last Puka was early? You also had the Arizona guy.
- 21:12Speaker 3: You went Thomas.
- 21:15Speaker 2: No, it's not that.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That's not that all right? Your back up here? M hm.
- 21:22Speaker 4: And this is interesting because I'm sitting here and I
- 21:25Speaker 4: had people down the line. I thought that I would
- 21:28Speaker 4: be forced to go deep down into will. But let's
- 21:30Speaker 4: go with uh Bowers from the Raiders.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Let's say, oh, okay, okay, I just didn't know for
- 21:37Speaker 1: sure we have do we have? We don't have an
- 21:39Speaker 1: injury report yet, do we.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Raiders? I know. I'll tell you what.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna be generous that Buck. If for some reason
- 21:47Speaker 1: ours is not play, you can have a backup. After
- 21:50Speaker 1: the drafts over, you can submit your backup. So I'm
- 21:52Speaker 1: sure Drew Drew is you know Drew can give this
- 21:56Speaker 1: week one ratt Let's just be if he's not healthy.
- 21:58Speaker 1: We're doing the draft early and injury reports had to
- 22:01Speaker 1: come out and give him a fallback, just in case,
- 22:04Speaker 1: just in case. I gotta double up here, right, I
- 22:06Speaker 1: got my last two yes, last two picks. Well, I've
- 22:09Speaker 1: got to get a quarter I've got a quarterback. So
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with Jayde Daniels.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Question, would you have taken him over Caleb Williams if
- 22:17Speaker 3: you had the choice?
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think I would have for fantasy purposes, especially early
- 22:22Speaker 1: in the year. I think he's going to use his
- 22:24Speaker 1: legs a little bit. Again, I had a higher grade
- 22:29Speaker 1: on Caleb. People act like, oh you have how do
- 22:31Speaker 1: you have him over him? The whole process? No, no, no,
- 22:33Speaker 1: this is a different conversation.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Just too do.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I think hits the ground running. So I gotta go.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Jade and Daniels and uh hey, what
- 22:40Speaker 1: would the start of the season be if I wasn't
- 22:42Speaker 1: a homer l a double D.
- 22:52Speaker 4: You must have some insider information if you're gonna take
- 22:54Speaker 4: there must be something that you know.
- 22:56Speaker 3: There's no information.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He's good, Yeah, you must. He's gonna be fed.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I mean, wow, okay, running it thirty times okay.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I mean all right, so you don't get points from
- 23:10Speaker 1: blocks on here?
- 23:13Speaker 2: All right? So we got Caleb.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You gotta take your quarterback, buddy, Yeah, you got you
- 23:18Speaker 1: gotta go quarterback, go ahead and walk up, gotta take.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Oh Nicks.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think guys in uh, in this situation,
- 23:30Speaker 3: I'm gonna go back and get my stack. Now, I'm
- 23:33Speaker 3: gonna go get Roma Doones and so so I ended
- 23:35Speaker 3: up getting it anyway. So give me Rome Rome to
- 23:38Speaker 3: pair with Caleb and uh and my guy, he's ave
- 23:41Speaker 3: you worthy. So I got speed, I got physicality, and
- 23:44Speaker 3: I got.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That squad that.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Okay squad I took. I took Bowers really really early
- 23:50Speaker 1: in my in my fantasy draft. So I'm all on
- 23:52Speaker 1: Brock if he's healthy. But Buck, give us your uh,
- 23:54Speaker 1: your fallback.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Jermain Burton, Jamar Chase, we go Jermaine Burton, Jermain Burton,
- 24:01Speaker 3: Jamain If we don't know what's going on with youmorrow, okay, Okay,
- 24:06Speaker 3: you know what's going.
- 24:07Speaker 1: To happen is there's dudes that we are not anticipating.
- 24:10Speaker 1: They're gonna have big weeks, and that's what shakes it
- 24:11Speaker 1: up as we get into next week. But I do
- 24:13Speaker 1: love that. I do love that little rookie draft. So
- 24:16Speaker 1: to recap, I've got Marvin Harrison Junior. I've got Jayden
- 24:20Speaker 1: Daniels and Ladd mccackey.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Bucky.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You have got neighbors Bowers and Nicks with Burton on
- 24:26Speaker 1: the on deck circle in case in case we have
- 24:29Speaker 1: injury situation there with Bowers and then Rhett. You you
- 24:32Speaker 1: had the combination that you came with late which you
- 24:36Speaker 1: get your Roma Dune Day to go along with Caleb Williams.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And then you also have Xavier Worthy for the fun
- 24:41Speaker 1: explosive plays. And it's a standalone game. So that's that
- 24:44Speaker 1: makes it fun. There's there's a fun factor. There's a
- 24:47Speaker 1: fun factor when you're making these picks.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I like that.
- 24:51Speaker 1: All right, Let's uh, let's get things a little old
- 24:53Speaker 1: school here. Let's do Hits and Misses presented by Irish Spring.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Awaken your senses with Irish Spring. Irish is a tough
- 25:02Speaker 1: word for me, by the way, I don't know why.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I just I can't get it, really, but yeah, it's
- 25:06Speaker 1: a struggle. It's a little bit of a struggle. Well,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I think you just need I think you just need
- 25:11Speaker 1: a channel. Why don't you channel your your inner Marcus
- 25:13Speaker 1: Freeman pre game, like get.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Yourself a juice man, he was hyped calling you out,
- 25:18Speaker 4: get a nice good, good lift in. It looked like
- 25:20Speaker 4: he had a writ uh Lewis lift before you go
- 25:24Speaker 4: out because there.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Was nice snug there. Yeah, very very engaging with the
- 25:32Speaker 2: aggie crowd, very engaged.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going uh, I'm gonna go with my I'm
- 25:37Speaker 1: gonna go to twenty nineteen draft class boys, Okay, the
- 25:40Speaker 1: twenty nineteen draft. I'm gonna let you guys play along,
- 25:44Speaker 1: and if you're listening, you can play along as well.
- 25:46Speaker 1: But I'm gonna give you my notes on a player.
- 25:47Speaker 1: This is a player that I got right. Okay, this
- 25:51Speaker 1: was a player that I had. Let's see where was he?
- 25:54Speaker 1: He was my seventeenth player in the draft. And this
- 25:58Speaker 1: is an edge rusher five six two sixty who ran
- 26:03Speaker 1: four four one four to three d n big time
- 26:07Speaker 1: get off. He can bend at the top, he can
- 26:09Speaker 1: dip and burst. He us his long arm, he flashes
- 26:13Speaker 1: a little knock back, he can get a little high
- 26:15Speaker 1: at the point of attack, but the effort is outstanding.
- 26:17Speaker 1: This is the guy who has really come on and
- 26:19Speaker 1: blossomed as an elite edge rusher in this league. And
- 26:22Speaker 1: when went went about it, nine or ten spots beyond
- 26:26Speaker 1: where I had him picked. So I feel good about
- 26:28Speaker 1: labeling that as a hit.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Huh. Okay, I was gonna say Brian Burns, but he
- 26:35Speaker 3: went sixteen and you had this player ranked seventeen overall.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Right, this player was ranked seventeen overall.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Correct.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Oh, Josh Allen, Josh Henes Allen.
- 26:50Speaker 1: No, I cheated. Your guess is over and it's Bucky's turn.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You just lost on that one.
- 26:57Speaker 3: When you said beyond, you mean he got drafted later
- 27:00Speaker 3: than you.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Have, got drafted later than where I Okay, I had
- 27:03Speaker 1: him seventeen and he got picked after I got you. Okay,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I guess ten spots out.
- 27:08Speaker 2: He laid. He laid it out for us. I think
- 27:10Speaker 2: it's mates. Wait, he laid.
- 27:11Speaker 1: There you go ding ding ding ding ding.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Lad right out When he said nine spots beyond, didn't
- 27:16Speaker 4: you just go to the page.
- 27:17Speaker 1: He's like, okay, Oh, she went to the page.
- 27:20Speaker 2: You looked it up.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Wow, Okay, I'm not You think you think I can
- 27:25Speaker 4: remember who got you?
- 27:27Speaker 1: If I just say two years ago, can you can
- 27:30Speaker 1: you make it?
- 27:32Speaker 2: Okay? Okay?
- 27:34Speaker 1: All right, So I'm giving too many clues. There's too
- 27:36Speaker 1: many clues there I'm just giving you the draft year,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and I'll let you look at the guys. I'll give
- 27:40Speaker 1: the draft here in the position drafting position.
- 27:43Speaker 2: That's it.
- 27:45Speaker 1: A lot of clues. You would think with an Indiana education,
- 27:47Speaker 1: someone else would have been able to figure that out.
- 27:49Speaker 3: But well, you confused me. You let me.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Okay, let's go to a miss. Okay, boys, this Andre
- 27:59Speaker 1: Dillon is actually I was getting ready to read Andre Dillard.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But there's a couple more to choose from here. I
- 28:05Speaker 1: could have died was I could have given you Andre
- 28:07Speaker 1: Dillard very quickly. All right, Now I'm going deeper. I'm
- 28:10Speaker 1: going deeper. Okay, here we go. Uh oh gosh, I'm
- 28:15Speaker 1: gonna all right, I gotta get out of the first
- 28:16Speaker 1: round because I feel like I'm too easy. I'm gonna
- 28:20Speaker 1: get out of here. Let me try and find somebody
- 28:21Speaker 1: that ended up being good that I wasn't as high one. Okay,
- 28:28Speaker 1: uh this is an offensive lineman. This guy has played center,
- 28:34Speaker 1: strong hands, he can anchor, his hands get a little wide,
- 28:37Speaker 1: but he can recover. He's really good on combos. I
- 28:39Speaker 1: just thought he fell off blocks a little too much,
- 28:41Speaker 1: had some center guard flexibility. I had him as a
- 28:44Speaker 1: second round player, which I believe that's a that's uh yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: that is uh he went a little a little bit
- 28:51Speaker 1: beyond that, but he's been a much better player than,
- 28:54Speaker 1: uh than where I had him graded. So this is
- 28:57Speaker 1: a this is a miss six O four four three
- 29:01Speaker 1: ten with a five eight forty. This is a player
- 29:04Speaker 1: that I had in the second round range that actually
- 29:08Speaker 1: let's see he oh maybe he did go Where did
- 29:11Speaker 1: he go? Hm? So I think he was oh, okay, yeah, no,
- 29:16Speaker 1: he still went later than where I hadn't picked, but
- 29:18Speaker 1: he ended up being he's outplayed his draft position.
- 29:21Speaker 3: M hm.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And I can promise you this if you guys can't
- 29:26Speaker 1: get it, and the Bill's gonna get.
- 29:28Speaker 3: It, oh yeah, el Jenkins.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Elton Jacobs, the only team knows.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Yeah, MAYBEA would have been all over that. I'm surprised
- 29:40Speaker 1: he hadn't put the answer in the chat.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Has he played center at all?
- 29:45Speaker 2: Everywhere?
- 29:47Speaker 1: I think he's moved around a little bit, but he's
- 29:49Speaker 1: really really good. Uh So that one I'm labeling that
- 29:52Speaker 1: it's missed. But funny was I was? I had Andre
- 29:54Speaker 1: Dillard all qued up, but it was too easy, I mean,
- 29:57Speaker 1: was Lee. I'd like to have that one backlas at you.
- 30:00Speaker 1: That's something that I am that is the benefit of
- 30:02Speaker 1: the new conference alignment is that you know, Andre Dillard
- 30:07Speaker 1: comes to the draft process and you're like, this guy's
- 30:09Speaker 1: got really really good feet. I don't know if he
- 30:10Speaker 1: can anchor well, there will be no mystery anymore. When
- 30:13Speaker 1: you have Penn State in Michigan and Ohio State and
- 30:16Speaker 1: all those boys on the schedule. You're going to find
- 30:18Speaker 1: out guys can can handle power if you're looking at
- 30:21Speaker 1: tackles out west. So well, there you have it. This
- 30:24Speaker 1: segment was brought to you by Irish Spring. Awaken your
- 30:27Speaker 1: senses with Irish Spring. A very nice I guess there
- 30:31Speaker 1: we go. There's a little hits and misses. It's been
