- 0:00Yo. So this is episode fifty and were starting off I'm here with the
- 0:04boys. It's me Lester with Quincy and for an easy yo check this out.
- 0:10Man. I was blessed at a very young age with the unfortunate circumstance
- 0:18of having a lot of time to myself where I had to think all the
- 0:23time because that's all I had. This was before smartphones, This was before
- 0:27we had a whole bunch of stuff to waste your time. I was,
- 0:31and on top of that, I was poor. So even if that stuff
- 0:35was around, if I wasn't stealing it, I wasn't having I was blessed
- 0:43with this time, and this time led me to these thoughts and this basically
- 0:49like the basis of this podcast and what lovingly Joe always refers to that I
- 0:57have like this quality that you describe it, Joe, because I like how
- 1:00you say it. But it's gonna lead into what this show is about.
- 1:06Number fifty. It's gonna be real deep. I hope you all ready,
- 1:11like I said, Joe, um say the thing you were just saying.
- 1:15No. So we were talking about that level of giving and shit about what
- 1:19people thinking. There's a book that's out and it's that whether giving a fuck
- 1:25about anything right, And I feel like you you grow into that, and
- 1:30it's not about time. It's not how long it takes to go onto that,
- 1:34it's how much you go through to go into that. And I've never
- 1:38seen someone outside of Lester with such a level headedness and like such. It's
- 1:46kind of like a barrier to where anybody thinks that about how he thinks or
- 1:49what he knows or what he does. And even like I could give an
- 1:53example, bro, when nobody could actually believe I thought you were joking that
- 1:57you didn't know who Lincoln Parks and the Lincoln Park class like that blew my
- 2:02mind. But then there's nobody else who I expect that From a slight correction,
- 2:08I knew who they were, but I hadn't listened to any of their
- 2:10music, Like I knew peripherally, like oh, Lincoln Park. I kind
- 2:15of know what's like the main guys look like from like you know, stuff
- 2:17I've seen like on TV and stuff, but I definitely don't know none the
- 2:21like I know n be a young boy, but I can't name one song
- 2:23or anything about him that's not knowing them. I'm talking about owing them and
- 2:30no but it's just m it's you have to achieve a level of self awareness
- 2:35to reach that balance. And like I said, I'm going on my thirty
- 2:39ninth year. I'll be turning thirty ninety in a month. And I've only
- 2:43reached this level like maybe like two two and a half three years ago,
- 2:46where Wow, nothing bothers me. I can't let anything bother me. And
- 2:51I have such a barrier there that I don't have to live in conflict with
- 2:55it. I just disregard it. And it's being a long time. And
- 3:00that's one thing, like I unless it's younger, younger than me, and
- 3:04Ello he's realized this at an age way before I met him. And it's
- 3:07just that's something that you grow into and I think that everybody grows into it.
- 3:12And it's not about time, it's just about experience and how you deal
- 3:15with it. Yeah, there's um. I was watching Comedians and Cars like
- 3:21I always do, I always rerun it leaving in the background, and the
- 3:23episode where Jerry Seinfeldt had Eddie Murphy on. Eddie Murphy talks about talking to
- 3:29Prince and Prince saying that he wasn't fully confident a lot of times and Eddie
- 3:34Murphy's joke was like, like, you mean, you wasn't confident when your
- 3:38ass was out, you know what I'm saying. Like he was, he
- 3:40was like kind of making light of it, but it was like it blew
- 3:43his mind that Prince, somebody so flamboyant and so fearless in the eyes of
- 3:47the audience, was not confident. But the difference between Prince and somebody quote
- 3:54unquote regular is not necessarily the confidence. It's to me, I feel like
- 4:00the difference is the wisdom of knowing, Hey, I'm just a guy trying
- 4:05to be my best self and sometimes I'm gonna fall flat on my face.
- 4:11Sometimes it's gonna work, sometimes it's not. But if I don't try,
- 4:15or if I don't do it, and if I don't just say, hey,
- 4:17I'm not worried about what people think, You're not gonna reach that greatness.
- 4:21And it kind of goes with that quote where you was talking about last
- 4:25time, Joe, like good enough is the enemy is great, you know
- 4:28what I mean? Because like when you start to tie it into the music,
- 4:30like when you start making music, you get you're scared to go certain
- 4:35levels because you don't know how you're gonna sound at those certain levels. You're
- 4:40like, man, I can try to hit it in this kind of tone
- 4:46that this person does it in, but man, I'm scared that like with
- 4:49my voice or my style, it's not gonna sound as good or whatever.
- 4:53And that kind of thing holding you back, that kind of puts you in
- 4:58your comfort zone is the thing that's holding you back from really reaching that greatness
- 5:01because a lot of people are scared to put out the mediocre. A lot
- 5:06of people are scared to try and see, like, hey, I'm doing
- 5:09this different thing, let me, let me see what people like, and
- 5:13if they don't like it, they take it personal instead of saying, Okay,
- 5:15they don't like it, do I need to retool it and make it
- 5:18better? Or do I need to abandon it? You know what I'm saying.
- 5:24I always it sounds so simple, and I don't know if maybe I
- 5:28don't know what it is, but like it's so easy to me to just
- 5:30say I'm gonna look at it from my own point of view, Like,
- 5:33for example, I'm very picky about music, so I'm gonna assume that people
- 5:39are very picky about music, you know what I'm saying. So I'm gonna
- 5:43make sure I'm hitting all those things that drive me crazy when I hear music.
- 5:47You know what I'm saying, like the things that I don't like,
- 5:50so that somebody that is scrutinizing the music how I am will like the music.
- 5:57And I understand that tastes are so specific that it's something that if you're
- 6:02trying to penetrate that zone as far as getting into, like a certain sound,
- 6:09you're gonna have, Like I said, you're gonna have to try it.
- 6:11Say Okay, is this something that I need to improve upon or just
- 6:15abandon altogether? Or is it something that people are enjoying and I need to
- 6:17keep going that way? You know what I'm saying, And that awareness and
- 6:21that being able to detach yourself and detach your feeling from it and just really
- 6:29look at it in a point like a matter of factory point of view.
- 6:32Yeah, I feel like it's so beneficial just all levels. And you said
- 6:36it perfectly, And I want to pose the same question to both of you.
- 6:41So you said a word earlier that that really resonates with me. Wisdom
- 6:45wisdom. What do I consider wisdom? Wisdom is the experiences you've been through
- 6:50and what you've learned from them, right, that's wisdom. You've gained wisdom,
- 6:55you've game knowledge, you learn how to deal with something you've been through.
- 6:59If you you know the definition of insaying that you're doing the same thing
- 7:02over and over again expecting a different results. If you do that for twenty
- 7:05years, you don't get wisdom from that. You don't get an experienced from
- 7:09that, you know what I mean. So confidence comes from wisdom and knowing
- 7:15how you've done things for so long, and how you've grown and what you've
- 7:18learned how you do things now. So there's a fine line between confidence and
- 7:25just being absolutely delusional. And when creating contro creating music and creating where you
- 7:30too know as what your fans, potential fans, future fans, past fans,
- 7:36president fans want it here. Where do you judge that line of confidence
- 7:43and when you know this is what you're supposed to put out for you.
- 7:48So to kind of tie it back into the wisdom thing, the way I
- 7:53kind of look at it is I'm going to kind of look for guidance in
- 8:03knowledge that is in my realm. So basically what I'm saying is I'm gonna
- 8:09kind of seek mentorship slash advice slash. I'm gonna I'm gonna try to take
- 8:16lessons from people that are in a field or in a lifestyle that I aspire
- 8:20to be in, you know what I'm saying. So if starting there,
- 8:24I look at it from the point of view of like, Okay, when
- 8:26I'm making a certain kind of sound, I'm gonna first look to people that
- 8:33are making that kind of sound because there's always basic principles in those things that
- 8:39are always true, Like there's always opinion stuff, there's always style stuff.
- 8:43But then there's also always like pillars in everything, and I kind of look
- 8:48for those pillars from people that have done it already, and then I kind
- 8:52of play around with it around that framework, you know what I mean,
- 8:56And then I kind of already know like, for example, perfect example,
- 9:00the song that I sent you guys yesterday, I don't make that kind of
- 9:03music, you know what I'm saying, but I like it, And when
- 9:07I heard that vibe, I'm like, oh man, I could definitely make
- 9:11that kind of vibe with this. What I did with that for a while,
- 9:15like a good almost a week or so, because I had to.
- 9:18I was sitting on the beat for a little bit I'm listening to it and
- 9:22I'm just kind of thinking about songs that are in that vein. I'm thinking
- 9:28about people that are in that vibe. I'm thinking about visually how it looks.
- 9:31I'm thinking about the topics they talk about. I'm thinking about the vibe
- 9:33that it gives you. I'm really like kind of trying to take in the
- 9:39vibe and just the sound and the atmosphere of it to really attack it the
- 9:43right way. I don't want to attack it from the strait, you know,
- 9:48R and B mind that I'm attacking. So that's where that confidence is.
- 9:52Confidence is knowing that you've answered all those questions for the people rather than
- 9:56just yourself and satisfying yourself exactly. It's like you got you gotta stick to
- 10:01the pillars. That's just gonna apply to music, regardless of if you like
- 10:05it or not, and then also stick to what you enjoy that you feel
- 10:09like you could sustain. Like everything that I put out is always gonna be
- 10:13something that I feel like I can give you more of, which is why
- 10:16certain records that y'all know about, I might hold onto them, or I
- 10:20might try to figure out how to retool it. Because it's not my vibe.
- 10:24And if I find success in that lane, it doesn't help me because
- 10:28that's not the lane I want to be in. So, Joe, I
- 10:33want you to kind of reask that question. I kind of got lost into
- 10:35what Lester was saying that I forgot where we started. My bad so asked
- 10:39me the question again. No, how do you balance that line between confidence
- 10:43of you know exactly what you're putting out is what you're supposed to put out,
- 10:48or you're just overconfident, like, no, this is the shit everybody
- 10:52needs to listen to from me? Like, how do you balance that line?
- 10:56I think for me, one, it's a it's a feeling, you
- 11:00know what I'm saying that that I get, Like there's certain songs that I'll
- 11:03send to y'all that I have a great feeling about, and there's other songs
- 11:07that I'll send to y'all, and I'm just like, I just want some
- 11:09feedback, you know what I'm saying, Like, I feel like there's a
- 11:11feeling that comes with that leads to that confidence. But also for me personally,
- 11:18you know, I have a small circle of people that I know have
- 11:22a good ear for music that I kind of bounce ideas off of you know
- 11:28what I'm saying that, Like I'll send something and be like what do you
- 11:30think? And like I know this actually was one of the things that used
- 11:33to like bother Leicester because I would send things that weren't done, or I
- 11:37would send things that were like unfinished and stuff like that. But you know,
- 11:41for me, you know it, like I like knowing like all right,
- 11:45yo, this is going down the right lane before kind of like what
- 11:48Lester said, like if he knows it's something that he can't give you way
- 11:52more of, then it's not something that he's gonna be a one hundred percent
- 11:54positive with putting it out. For me, it's like I want to make
- 12:00sure I'm going down the right lane before I even try to put it out
- 12:03or I even try to like waste my time going forward with it, if
- 12:07that makes sense, or putting the money into get like you know what I'm
- 12:09saying. I could go all the way through the recording process, get it
- 12:11professionally mixed, do all of that stuff, and then at the end,
- 12:15I'm like, yo, I do not like this, you know what I
- 12:16mean? Like, so I try to like utilize that circle as well,
- 12:20Like so this is my thing. Like the way I look at that is
- 12:26those songs that you're talking about that you're kind of sending for like, I
- 12:31don't know, that's kind of not my vibe whatever. Like for me in
- 12:33my process, I wouldn't even send those you know what I'm saying, just
- 12:37because of that, Like I already told myself in my mind, this is
- 12:41not my vibe. Even if I could make something of it, It's not
- 12:46really something that I'm gonna go gung hole into, you know what I mean.
- 12:48You know, I'm just gonna put that to the side, And it
- 12:52kind of leads into what I was gonna like say about what you just said.
- 12:56Quency is at the end of the day, you gotta figure out and
- 13:01not just you, I'm just saying in general, like you gotta figure out
- 13:05what your vibe is and how to keep pursuing that, and then you ask
- 13:11for guidance or help or whatever, like, don't look to anybody to give
- 13:13you that identity or to tell you, hey, like you should be here
- 13:18whatever whatever that is, Like, you gotta figure that out yourself and then
- 13:22say, all right, what's going on? And that kind of ties into
- 13:24what we're talking about last week where I was saying, there's certain people that
- 13:28they won't even start working on stuff until they have somebody like you know that
- 13:33they sign up to like help them do it, you know what I mean.
- 13:35They'll be like, oh, you know, let's let's pull up here
- 13:39this day or whatever, and they kind of use that person to kind of
- 13:41brainstorm and kind of help them figure it out and stuff like that. And
- 13:45it's like, when it comes to certain things, you gotta do. You
- 13:48gotta figure that all out by yourself. Because that's something I learned with the
- 13:52music too, Like it's part of the wisdom. Brother, that's how you
- 13:56gain wisdom, and you're just doing the same shit every be with low results.
- 14:01Yep. And that's that's something I learned earlier in the music, Like
- 14:03when I used to wrap, It's like you can. You can. You
- 14:09can kind of create something and make a vibe where it's viable and it's something
- 14:16that people get behind because of the specialness in you or just the drive that
- 14:20you have or whatever the case is. But if it's not sustainable, or
- 14:26if it's not something that's truly feeding you, you're always gonna have that friction
- 14:31in that situation, you know, what I'm saying, like I just knew
- 14:35like that world like for me and for the type of person I was and
- 14:39the type of music I made as far as like when I used to wrap.
- 14:41It was more like I had to realize, like, Yo, this
- 14:45is just not like this lane is not me no more at all at all,
- 14:48you know what I'm saying. And when I switched to the music,
- 14:52kind of tying into the shout out to dolore Man, he had me on
- 14:54indie Jams either the Grind Radio on Saturday, and we had a dope conversation
- 15:01and we kind of got into like when I used to wraping stuff because he
- 15:03was a big fan of my stuff back in the day. And with the
- 15:07rapping thing, it just turned into something that just wasn't me anymore. And
- 15:11that's why the singing thing took off, because it just aligned more with like
- 15:16my energy and my vibe and everything. And once I figured out that I
- 15:22had to take my music away from that rap energy, even though I was
- 15:26singing, I was still giving it that rap energy, and I had to
- 15:31realize, Okay, like I'm in a whole different zone right now, you
- 15:33know what I'm saying. And once I aligned with that zone, that's when
- 15:37everything was like, Okay, now things are doing well, people are enjoying
- 15:41the sound, you know what I'm saying, And that kind of ties into
- 15:43the confidence thing. It's like, I'm not gonna pretend like I'm making the
- 15:50best music in the world, but I also understand no, no, but
- 15:54check this out. But I also understand that my music will be the best
- 15:58thing in the world to certain people. So the perfect transition into the final
- 16:03topic I was getting into is when you cross that line, you're into delusional.
- 16:08And someone in that might not even be music, someone starting their business,
- 16:12someone has an idea, or someone has something that they think and they're
- 16:17thinking of the end goal where before they have even put the foundation in the
- 16:22start where they where they want to get, and you're listening to them,
- 16:26and and you're at the point where that's not confidence, like you know what
- 16:30I mean, Like you're if you're not even thinking of the groundwork you have
- 16:33to do for that you I think that's border that's crossing over the delusional,
- 16:38like you're not taking account reality. And like you said, once you start
- 16:42realizing what's really going on, what's best for you and what's going to be
- 16:45best for what you're doing. That's confidence, and that's what I mean,
- 16:49Like, there's a there's a fine line there, and there's people who are
- 16:56just who just cross that line. That's what they're now. What I'm doing,
- 16:59this is the best ship that you ever heard, best shit you've ever
- 17:02seen, and there's nothing better than what I'm gonna Donna, dude, they
- 17:06haven't even done yet. But that's also why these these conversations that we're having
- 17:11right now, and something we were talking about offers like we have a certain
- 17:15type of vibe with like the people that we even mess with collectively that it's
- 17:18always good vibes. Why is that because we're the type of people that kind
- 17:23of get the nuance of things, and the type of people that you're talking
- 17:26about you kind of just gotta laugh and agree and keep it moving because they're
- 17:33not even gonna understand what you just said. You get what I'm saying.
- 17:37Like, I'm the type of person bro that once I see that's where your
- 17:41mind is at, I'm not even trying to change your mind, you know
- 17:45what I'm saying. That's why I like, even with like the music stuff,
- 17:48like I'm not I'm not trying to make nobody a fan. I don't
- 17:52have that like Kanye. Yeah, I don't have the Kanye thing in me
- 17:56of like, Yo, I'm the dopest. Can't you like why you ain't
- 17:59listening to me? You know what I'm saying, Like you gotta be my
- 18:00fan because I'm just the dopest artist. Like that Kanye thing is like it's
- 18:04non existing in me, you know what I mean. I move completely opposite
- 18:07with my music and my sound and everything. But the funny thing is there
- 18:14is a little bit of that in there that you would like to have,
- 18:17but confidence exactly what the issue with that is the line is never constant either,
- 18:25so it's a hard place to dabble in. Yeah, yeah, I
- 18:29I agree. The line moves. The line moves a lot over time.
- 18:34It's like you gotta find a way to like dance right up on it and
- 18:38just be right up on it all the time, but not be on it
- 18:42or even like too close to it, you know what I mean? Because
- 18:45he goes back to what I was saying, it's like music, like music
- 18:51to me is so special and so magical. But at the same time I
- 18:55understand that there's people that don't even listen to music that to them is stupid.
- 18:59It's hell like they do not care about music. So there's the duality
- 19:04of that. And like I said, that's why I'm in a space where
- 19:08it's like, I know what I'm doing is dope, and I know what
- 19:12I'm doing is monumental to the people that are on that wave. But I'm
- 19:19not trying to bring everybody to the wave. I'm just trying to figure out
- 19:22who is in that wave and that that is exactly how I feel our approach
- 19:30for this podcast is. And but we get so much respect about what we
- 19:33do. I was with HOI, Um, like, are we gonna have
- 19:38to go at the pool party? And let's just dude, how I did
- 19:41a podcast with the Bag and he the first thing he said was like,
- 19:45I love that you're doing it, And he's like, I love how consistent
- 19:48y'all are and how it just doesn't stop. And that's all that matters.
- 19:52It just doesn't stop. I have another homeboy shout out to Wayning with Travis.
- 20:00They have a boxing podcast, you do. I trained with over and
- 20:03winning Springs. Um, same thing. I haven't seen him in forever,
- 20:07and when I want to go train with them, he says, love that
- 20:11you're doing the podcast. Love that y'all consistent of the quality. And it's
- 20:15like, as long as you're consistent and putting shit out and you don't have
- 20:19to convince anybody that you need to do listen to me over anybody else,
- 20:26that's how that's how you put shit out, That's how it stays genuine.
- 20:30That's how you stay confident, like of what you're doing. And we're just
- 20:36gonna keep doing what we're doing and it's for the people who listen. And
- 20:40that's what I mean. It's an approach there. I've seen people put out
- 20:44podcasts or they think just because they've got a cool Instagram and flash year arn't
- 20:48work, that makes it a great podcast. And this the quality is not
- 20:53there to match. There's so many different things you have to look at when
- 20:56you're thinking about if you're confident and you're or you're just delusion on you think
- 21:00what you're making is the best, right man. The big thing is the
- 21:07consistency too. You know, Um you said, I know a lot of
- 21:11people that started a podcast after us and stopped it before us, you know
- 21:15what I mean. So it's definitely the consistency as well. Yeah, it's
- 21:19something. I think it was the episode when y'all wearing on. But like
- 21:22some people, their only goal is to start the podcast and they never even
- 21:26get it off the ground, like when a podcast is so they have an
- 21:30Instagram and they have a logo for it, and they have a coming soon.
- 21:33They have everything but the podcast. And that's what I love the molester
- 21:37with his approach is the most important thing about this podcast is what we're talking
- 21:42about. That's all he cares about. Nothing else, the R word,
- 21:47the Instagram, all that shit don't matter. What matters what we talk about.
- 21:51And there's not a lot of people who do that. They're all about
- 21:53the flashiness, the videos, the reels, it's and that, but the
- 21:57actual content it is not even there. And that's that that that's what makes
- 22:03the saturation of the podcast community so difficult. But that's because people were trying
- 22:07to portray themselves a certain way on social media. John Morant, But you
- 22:11know, perfect, you know what's funny real quick, just because we're on
- 22:17that fiftieth episode Vibe, you know what I'm saying. When when I first
- 22:21thoughted, like, first of all, the grounded thing really just came from
- 22:25me trying to figure out a new idea for merch, you know what I'm
- 22:29saying. I was trying to like make some merch that was kind of detached
- 22:32from me but was still dope and just still tied into what I was about.
- 22:36And I really took like a month to really think about the logo,
- 22:40really think about the name, really think like I really just took my time
- 22:45to think about it, you know what I mean, And it ended up
- 22:48being the grounded thing, and then it just ended up turning into like its
- 22:51own thing. And the reason why I wanted to do the podcast is because
- 22:55originally, like me and Quincy didn't even really know Joe, like we were
- 22:59in I was in the fantasy football league with him for a few years.
- 23:03Yeah, we didn't even talk, like we just talked in the chat,
- 23:07you know what I'm saying. And me and Quincy would always have these like
- 23:11we spent a lot of time together in the studio and being together in the
- 23:17studio and just working on different projects together. Like a lot of times we
- 23:21would just sit like on a smoke break or even just in the middle of
- 23:23what we was doing and we would just kind of have these conversations and we
- 23:27were both like when we when we started the podcast, it really was like
- 23:34kind of too late, but also it was at the perfect time because I
- 23:38feel like we were at the level slash mindset slash we hadn't we really had
- 23:44something to say, you know what I'm saying, Like we had really been
- 23:47through something multiple times and really persevered through it multiple times, and really like
- 23:52took our lives to a level past everybody behind us and our families, you
- 23:56know what I'm saying, Like all them things, it was like, all
- 24:00right, we can We really got something to say, And I really wanted
- 24:03to document all that stuff because kind of like you were saying, Joe,
- 24:07a lot of people don't, A lot of people think too much about the
- 24:11money and all this extra stuff when it's like at the end of the day,
- 24:15bro, like what matters is like what's real, and what's real is
- 24:18what we're doing, you know what I'm saying, Like we're really talking about
- 24:22some real beneficial stuff for everybody. Like if people might not catch it now,
- 24:26it might take a year, it might take two years. It might
- 24:29take for the music stuff to pop off more for people to come back and
- 24:33listen to this and be like oh man, dang, like yo, this
- 24:36is fire or whatever, like and kind of what we were saying earlier,
- 24:38like there's gonna be a lot of people that don't find no value on what
- 24:42we're saying, and that's cool, you know what I'm saying. We're looking
- 24:48for the people that are going to find a value in it. Something that
- 24:51like has been really important to me and like the last few years, that
- 24:55really is like the foundation of my mindset is Like a lot people always say
- 25:00like, oh, they're not on my level. People automatically their mind takes
- 25:04them to levels being like this, you know what I mean. They always
- 25:08imagine levels being somebody's above somebody or below somebody. Levels can be spread out,
- 25:15and that's how I look at levels, and it's like, yeah,
- 25:18you're not on my level, but I'm not above you either. We're just
- 25:23left and right in different places. I'm not higher, I'm not lower.
- 25:27We're on the same path. We're just in different locals successful where we're at
- 25:33in life exactly like you're on your path, I'm on my path, and
- 25:40me thinking like that has been so beneficial for me. And I also recognize
- 25:45that that might not be beneficial for other people. Other people might interpret that
- 25:48a different way. And it might lead their life down a different path.
- 25:52That's not what mine did, you know what I'm saying. But that's the
- 25:55beauty of it. You pick what makes sense to you. You think about
- 25:59the that you're on, and then you pick up things that help you maintain
- 26:03that path. You know what I'm saying. If you're walking along a path
- 26:07and you need tools, and you picked up a hammer and you keep walking
- 26:11and then you see another hammer, You're not gonna walk with the two hammers.
- 26:15You already got the hammer you need, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:18And that's kind of like what you gotta do when picking up these nuggets from
- 26:21people is like you you can listen to everything they say and understand what applies
- 26:26to you and the stuff that don't apply to you, it's still something you
- 26:29can learn. You can take everything. Bro. You gonna be a sponge
- 26:34your whole life. They say you're a sponge the most when you're like two
- 26:37or three years old, but you gotta be a sponge your whole life.
- 26:41Man. That's why you you don't react to shit as much as you get
- 26:45older. Because I've heard that ship before. Man, I've had and that's
- 26:49kind of how I was, especially when I was still living with my mom,
- 26:52still working at KFC, Like I hung out with people that, you
- 26:56know, we're doing better than me a lot, Like I was probably at
- 27:00a place more than at home, and it motivated me, you know what
- 27:03I'm saying. It motivated me to get out of my situation and I learned,
- 27:07you know what I mean. And I feel like some people that makes
- 27:10them uncomfortable, you know. It's like, you know, I feel like
- 27:15before every level of growth, there's like a certain level of discomfort and I,
- 27:18you know, like we were talking about off the part that's kind of
- 27:21where I feel that right now, you know what I'm saying, Just even
- 27:23as far as I've come, I feel like I'm at a cross from right
- 27:26now with growing that it's a little bit of discomfort, you know. But
- 27:30some people just not They don't work well under under that circumstance, under that
- 27:34discomfort. Saturn's returned, Doug. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that to you
- 27:41to both of y'all before. It's not necessarily something I believe in from the
- 27:45sense of the metaphysical reasoning behind it, but it's the idea that Saturn returns
- 27:56to the degree and sign it was at the time you were born, like
- 27:59when you're like your late twenties really early thirties, and it's kind of like
- 28:03your entryway into adulthood, you know what I mean. It's like your life
- 28:10is shifting from one thing to the next. And like I said, the
- 28:14you know, the science behind it or whatever doesn't convince me, but it
- 28:18makes sense. It's just because it's a time in your life where you are
- 28:22just making that transition. You know what I'm saying. Everybody in that period,
- 28:26you know, just you're going through these shifts and you're really saying,
- 28:30all right, I'm past you know, I'm past that part. Now.
- 28:36Now what we're doing is you know what I'm saying, Like, what what's
- 28:38the next ten years gonna look like? You know what I'm saying, Like
- 28:41I was thinking about these ten years before and now I'm in it, and
- 28:45dang, I did it, you know what I'm saying, So what's next
- 28:48now? Yeah? And only that something you touched on earlier is you know,
- 28:52the perception people have of you, and then when you've been the person
- 28:56you are so long that people see you that in that way that you are
- 29:00now and not in the way it used to be that shit feels good too,
- 29:06Yes sir, yes, sir, So I ain't gonna lie. Man.
- 29:11You're talking about you know, people seeing you as you are and I
- 29:12used to be. I really want to get into this. John Morant and
- 29:15JJ Rennick a perfect, perfect jow So check this out. For those who
- 29:22don't know. John Moran is a player on the Grizzlies. I believe he's
- 29:26the point guard. Now with the way basketball is, I don't even think
- 29:30that matters no more. But that's another topic. Anyway. He plays for
- 29:33the Grizzlies, had an incident a few months ago where he flashed the gun
- 29:37at a strip club on IG live, got suspended I believe eight games,
- 29:41did about a weekend of some counseling, came back, seemed like everything was
- 29:47cool. Then in the last week he was on IG live again with a
- 29:51gun and the NBA suspended him. And definitely they're figuring out, you know,
- 29:56they're investigating to see what they're gonna what his fine it's going to be,
- 30:00what the suspension is going to be, and all the sports shows have
- 30:03basically been debating how long it should be either way, you know what I'm
- 30:07saying. Some people are saying, you know, twenty games, fifty games,
- 30:11the whole season. You know, people are debating either side or how
- 30:15it was. But crack sports, his favorite meets dog, sends one wrong
- 30:26tweet and all of a sudden, my god, but Noah, So what
- 30:34you guys are talking about is j jj Reddick, a former NBA player turned
- 30:38analyst, a fan favorite because he's kind of like the side of the players
- 30:44and uh not to mention, John Moran is a black guy. Um,
- 30:48jj Reddick is a white guy. So jj Reddick brings up the point of
- 30:52maybe this thing, I mean not maybe, but he kind of just brought
- 30:56up how interesting it is that there's politician that are on campaign ads with guns
- 31:02and they have guns in their kids' hands, and there's you know, somebody
- 31:06showing off that they're at a range shooting a dummy or something like that.
- 31:10He flashed the gun in the state where it's legal for him to have a
- 31:12gun. So jj Reddick is kind of just saying, like, he didn't
- 31:15break any laws, he didn't do anything wrong. So what are we really
- 31:19talking about? Other people are arguing, you know, you're the face of
- 31:22the NBA. You know, you're the person that people are looking to for
- 31:27guidance. The NBA is also looking for you to be a role model.
- 31:30There's different opinions in it, and it's something that came up with us just
- 31:34because it was such a big topic because, you know, one we couldn't
- 31:38believe that it happened again, it's like wow, man, like you flashed
- 31:41another gun on Instagram live. But then JJ Reddick says what he says,
- 31:45and it's like, huh, good point, good point. I will say
- 31:49one thing, you know, when it comes to losing sponsorships or losing deals
- 31:56or whatever it may be, because you're supposed to, like they said,
- 32:00be the face of the NBA or be the you know whatever that aspect of
- 32:05it, I completely understand if I'm you know what I'm saying. I don't
- 32:08know what deals he has, but I'm just saying, if I'm Adidas and
- 32:12I'm you know what I'm saying, you're a part of you're representing my organization,
- 32:15then you know I have the right to pull out of dealing with you
- 32:20from how you portray yourself. From the other side of it, though,
- 32:22for him actually being a basketball player and playing basketball, JJ has a great
- 32:29point of like, what are we really doing, Like if you want to
- 32:32take money from him, if you want to you know what I'm saying,
- 32:36like do everything outside or suspend him from playing basketball, then what are we
- 32:39really doing? I get that point of it, But I also see the
- 32:43side of you know what I'm saying. If I'm working for an organization and
- 32:47you know I you know, I can't portray myself a certain way because it's
- 32:54I'm with this organization, then how do they how do they punish you?
- 33:00You know what I'm saying, Because technically he is representing the NBA. You
- 33:05know, it's not a good representation at all. But at the same time,
- 33:10he didn't break any long so it is a very very great area.
- 33:14It almost goes back to Iverson and how they treated Iverson just for being too
- 33:19hood, you know. So I think something that gets lost in the big
- 33:23part of the story, like for casual people that have heard of it,
- 33:28is John Moran also has a history of different events. As far as you
- 33:31know, he beat up a high school kid at a basketball game. He's
- 33:35claimed self defense because the kid threw a ball at him and me, I
- 33:38would argue, why would you fight a high school kid when you were a
- 33:42grown man, you know what. So there, you know, there was
- 33:45an an incident where they believe him or an associate might have flashed a gun
- 33:51at I forgot what arena was, but he was at some arena and they
- 33:54flashed a laser at some officials, I mean, some people that work with
- 34:00organization and slash players, and they didn't we weren't able to find out if
- 34:02it was a gun or what if it was a laser pointer or whatever it
- 34:06was. So there's also a history and a pattern of you know, he's
- 34:14built this reputation of he's kind of looking for trouble and people are kind of
- 34:16looking at it from the point of view of like, why are you trying
- 34:20to be hood? You know what I'm saying. Obviously, nobody knows why
- 34:23he's doing what he's doing or what the reasoning it is or whatever. But
- 34:28for me, I kind of see both sides of it, Like I understand
- 34:31that he hasn't technically done anything that has broken a law or anything, so
- 34:36you can also kind of downplay it, but I also understand that there's a
- 34:39history and when you're the face of the NBA, from the point of view
- 34:44of you might be the next guy having their signature shoe that everybody's wearing.
- 34:49You might be the guy that's on the all the billboards. You might be
- 34:51the guy that they associate a billion dollar organization with for the next ten years.
- 34:57You know what I'm saying, Like you might be one of their goats.
- 34:59And think about a situation like obviously I'm not saying that John Muran has
- 35:05done anything like this or even remotely close to anything like this, but I'm
- 35:07guessing what the NBA is trying to avoid is having one of their all time
- 35:12grades be so tarnished like the NFL has with OJ Simpson. O J.
- 35:16Simpson. What gets lost in all of this is OJ Simpson was one of
- 35:20the greatest running facts of all time, bro, But nobody is ever gonna
- 35:25know that because of all the other stuff that surrounded him, So all that
- 35:30kind of just goes away. So there's a certain period even of the NFL
- 35:36that like they kind of don't really call back to, and there's like a
- 35:38certain era that they don't even really play a lot of clips from because of
- 35:42that. It's kind of like the same thing that happened with the WWE and
- 35:45Chris Benwall. They kind of had to erase a whole part of their history
- 35:49because of what that guy did outside of the WWE. Yeah, So it's
- 35:54kind of like a thing that I always think about just period, Like whenever
- 35:58you're gonna go and somebody else's sandbox, you gotta play by their rules,
- 36:02you know what I'm saying. So, like, regardless of what the rules
- 36:06they impose on you are, if you're not in your own situation, you
- 36:09gotta do what they are telling you to do. What's your thoughts, Joe,
- 36:16I'm gonna keep I'm gonna keep it quick and simple, just to wrap
- 36:21it up because we're getting across it. And I'm not gonna hate because my
- 36:25stupid ass. When I was like twenty three years old, I had That's
- 36:30when I had a lot of guns. I had like a linement nine millimeter
- 36:34all chromed out. I had a Snub forty and this is one of my
- 36:38Space was out bro. I was on my Space like this, this is
- 36:42my profile picture with the gun on my forehead, white Desperado. Then talking
- 36:52about Jim No, you don't want purpose, and I do not know the
- 36:57answer to that question. I was young, I was stupid him flashing the
- 37:01guns on life. What is the purpose. Here's a difference. I was
- 37:07on my space in my bedroom, not doing shit in my life, being
- 37:13a hold on. You're getting pick millions and millions and millions where you can
- 37:17make it such a big difference. Here's impact. Here's my rebuttal to that
- 37:23there is no difference. He's just living his life the same way you're living
- 37:28your life. But if the circumstances don't matter, Yeah, but that's his
- 37:31circumstances may have bigger flash your guns. He's not he's not looking he's not
- 37:37looking at life through your lens, like, and he never will because it's
- 37:40his life, you know what I'm saying, Like that that thing to me
- 37:44of people saying that to me, I feel like it's not valid because he's
- 37:49just a person. Bro. He's not thinking about old Bro. We all
- 37:53we all think the way of the world is on our shoulders. Like even
- 37:57the people doing the most stupid stuff every day, they think that their life
- 38:01is the craziest, most hardest thing. They went through the craziest stuff,
- 38:06even us, bro, Like, we think about our lives and we're like,
- 38:08damn man, like I've been nobody coming. Yeah, bro, we're
- 38:13just living the same life that billions of people lived before us. Bro,
- 38:17I agree, that's all we all need to take a slice of that humble
- 38:22pie, because we don't know. We're all different, man, everybody's different.
- 38:25But it's just to me I would feel that, and that's maybe just
- 38:30over growth. When I finally reached a kind of income that that changed how
- 38:37I was and I was like, no, I don't ever want to lose
- 38:40this, and that changed too, I was. But I don't know if
- 38:43that would have changed me at age twenty three, So I can't really And
- 38:47I didn't even know how old he is. I'm not saying he's twenty three,
- 38:50but that's ye is it? Okay? Yeah? But yeah, so
- 38:53person it might be twenty four, I mean, but either way, so
- 38:55I don't I don't know. Maybe if I was making a million dollars at
- 39:00that age, would I act the same or different? I don't know.
- 39:02Maybe I wouldn't so, but to me, that's the only thing I looked
- 39:07like like I wish if I was in that position, I would see the
- 39:12potential of what I have and who I can be, which is at a
- 39:16level that nobody, no I want in a million chances get to experience that
- 39:22would navigate you a little better. But that's that's just me assuming. Yeah,
- 39:30it's it's kind of goes back to like what we kind of started with,
- 39:32like talking about celebrities and them not having confidence when they do certain things,
- 39:37and just we're all human, you know what I mean. And at
- 39:42the end of the day, people like a lot of times there's certain things
- 39:46that I'll say, like specifically about how like insignificant certain things are and how
- 39:52we're all the same, like we're not reinventing anything. Like if people take
- 39:55that in a negative way, and I don't look at it like that at
- 39:59all, you know what I'm saying. It's just it's the reality of the
- 40:02situation you're in, and it lets you know, like, bro, we're
- 40:09here to build the best thing that we can build the best way that we
- 40:13can. All the other stuff or whatever anybody else is doing or what.
- 40:17And this kind of could apply to John Moran too. Maybe I don't know
- 40:21what his situation is, but maybe he's considering other people's view of him or
- 40:25other other people what they got going on, instead of thinking about, Okay,
- 40:29what's gonna feed me in my life and what's gonna make you know,
- 40:32what's gonna propel me into the next fifty years of my life, you know
- 40:37what I mean, Maybe if he thought, I don't know, maybe he's
- 40:38not thinking like that, and that's what's leading him to make these decisions.
- 40:43You know what I'm saying. It's strictly maintaining an image. It's maintaining image.
- 40:47There's nothing you do that for yourself. Well, I don't care.
- 40:51I can't speak. I can't speak him saying, maybe he does that for
- 40:52himself, for his confidence, for his persona. Maybe it's you know,
- 40:58it might not be to maintaining it's just crazy. Too many aspects of it.
- 41:00It's hard to judge. It's hard to decide what why he's doing it.
- 41:05But the fact that he's doing it sucks because he's such a talented player,
- 41:08and that little ship can ruin everything you have going for you, and
- 41:14it's just part of the system, and if you can avoid it, it's
- 41:16the best thing to do. What I will say, though, is that
- 41:20you know, um, and we see this a lot, especially with you
- 41:23know, young black athletes, UM, is that his circle? They gotta
- 41:29be better, you know what I'm saying, Because at the end of the
- 41:31day, you know, I don't care if we're gonna live. I don't
- 41:34care if we're private. Bro, if if you my my dog and you're
- 41:38the reason why you know what I'm saying, Like even if you're not,
- 41:42you know what I'm saying, really like feeding me. But if you're the
- 41:45reason we able, I'm able to eat good periodically. You know what I'm
- 41:46saying. I'm gonna take care of you. I'm gonna make sure that he
- 41:51Bro, you saw what happened last time you did, like put that drunk
- 41:53away. You know what I'm saying. You're saying you like at the end
- 41:57of the day, it never like there's no benefits to doing it, you
- 42:00know what I'm saying, Like nobody's telling him, Hey, bro, like
- 42:04you you look at a pros and cons list. Yeah, you look at
- 42:07a pros and cons list to this thing, and there's no pros to what
- 42:09you're doing, Like, so why are you doing it? You know?
- 42:14And then that goes back to something we were talking about off air also,
- 42:16like there's just certain people that you just got to cut off, Like some
- 42:22people think a certain type of way, like what you were talking about earlier,
- 42:24Joe, like that delusion and just not realizing like that you can do
- 42:30things to really like improve your life if you like, detach your ego.
- 42:35Some people just don't get that and just will never get it. And you
- 42:37can spend your whole life trying to change that person, or you can focus
- 42:42on making your life the best that it can be. You know what I'm
- 42:45saying, And I always encourage everybody to do that. Just try to do
- 42:49the best you can do as you as a person for you, because you
- 42:53trying to do something, you know, something for somebody that they don't even
- 42:55want for themselves is never gonna work. That sh just just it's a reflection.
- 43:00That shit just reflects out who you are. And that's one of my
- 43:04one of my close friends. He has a great quote for people like that
- 43:07they're not living right, and you could tell when someone's living around and they're
- 43:10not you could tell. And and if you're living right, people can tell.
- 43:15Also you don't have to tell them. They they'll see it. Yep.
- 43:21Your your your proof of lifestyle is basically your resume, you know what
- 43:24I mean. I think you said something along these lines but before Joe,
- 43:30but like something kind of like where all you really have is like your word
- 43:32and and who you are as a man, you know what I mean.
- 43:36If you are a man, you know what I'm saying. If if you're
- 43:38a woman, all you have is your word and who you are as a
- 43:40woman. You know, whoever you are, you just being true to yourself.
- 43:45It's always gonna win no matter what. That's the fact, Jack,
- 43:52Yeah, man, some I mean by the time y'all here there, so
- 43:54it'll have been out for a few days. But tomorrow, which is Friday,
- 43:58the nineteenth of May twenty twenty three, me and Quincy dropping that Good
- 44:02Morning Love. I'm in the middle of putting I haven't even told y'all this,
- 44:07but I'm putting together a little summer pack with Unk. We haven't figured

- 45:55glad I started back up, bro. And it's just like you go through
- 45:59the ups and down, you go through the distractions and ship, but you
