- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, how you doing?
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a pleasure to have you, because I feel like
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people don't understand the power of music, the power of sounds, and how music shapes a lot of our lives.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I could tell you from a section like I thought, like I think I can remember listening to music probably starting like seven, eight years old.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Um, up until now and every like like like special ed MC light was like my introduction A gaming the power of affirmation.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think I honestly believe like that's why I'm so confident because MC light You know, she was talking her talk right you know, you know special ed was was giving you the words right He was telling you I got it made I made a million dollars every record that I made right and even when I think about
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, a lot of the music that has shaped like like when I hear certain music it takes me back to where I was or around that time.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and so what you've done right like like your music, the music that you've written has like sat in the soul of billions, right?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like like so many people.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and that's legendary.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to talk about all of that.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: How did you get into the game?
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: But for those who don't know,
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know who is to shock you, you know, you're at the pen, yes, imagine the radio that I penned it, you just a man just just thank you first of all for having me, um, man music is, um,
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: my soul, my energy, you know, the idea of being able to be selfless is probably my strength, right?
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of times, you know, especially in these times, every, you know, there's a lot of people definitely more selfish I feel now than they've ever been.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: And part of that, there's nothing
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: the growth and evolution and seeing people succeed and seeing people have things and grow to certain scenarios that you would like to have one day I want to be that and I want to do that.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: I want to accomplish those goals and for me.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: My perspective was just, well first of all, about a grace of God, I was just blessed with the enormous talent at the same time.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: I was blessed with great parents here.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: I was blessed with the opportunity to travel.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: travel to world and see things that most people from our community don't get a chance to see.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not just like, you know, the success of traveling.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's the
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: idea of meeting different people and understanding how different intellectuals operate, seeing different genres of people across the world, you know, into reality, each other, going to school with different people that didn't look like you.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: So that's really the basis, man, of my existence.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but I grew up in Europe, you know, I said I moved to Europe when I was like five Okay, I had the opportunity man to see the world we were your parents and like my dad was in military So my work for government.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: So and my mom's from Perry homes my dad's from Philly.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I got a chance to just
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: really see the world and such a young age.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then also I play sports to him, you know, so sports was a very instrumental part of my mindset, my mental strength, my mental competitiveness, my ability to relate, because you know,
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: In school, you know, we all competed if you play sports.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you play basketball, the football or track or wrestling, volleyball.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm just really excited about even where sports is.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: And right now, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's a big part of our inspiration.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm always, I'm always inspired, man.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm always inspired about people.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: I love, you know, I think that's probably the,
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would probably say my wealth and my wealthiest component for sure, it's people for sure.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: Some people may not know, right, because like I know for me, I've been somebody, like I'm only in a business person, so I always care not who's only in front.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: who's in the back, right, like the behind the scenes.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: So some people may not even know like some of the, like, Jack can't.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: And when I say, when I say, Bill, cause like, cause I don't, cause you know, cause I'm always hype, cause I'm, like, I love doing this.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like I love learning about other people's stories.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I love doing this.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: I love interacting.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: somebody watching might be like yo he he he exaggerated but when I say billions of like I mean that can you can you can you pop your shit a little bit like what are some of the what are some of the like the hits that you've written that you've been the pen behind I mean you know
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the greatest one right at a lot of them.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: I just did push your, you know, top two, not two, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, the thing about it is that I'm very proud to say that myself, it's right.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I've worked so hard and given so much of myself.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: The reason why, I mean, that phrase, it's like Ali said, I'm the greatest, you know what I'm saying?
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't believe that, if you don't know that, if you don't understand that, then you will never, ever, ever, ever, ever.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: be able to get past, hurt, past the pain, past the journey, right?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because the journey is a journey.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, to be an inspiration to people.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's an amazing feeling, but it's also an amazing responsibility, yeah, and when it comes to some of the things I've been able to accomplish along with, you know, some of the greatest entertainers we've ever seen, you know, you know, from usher's year to usher's papers to Chris Brown's
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Dessie's Child Soldier, lose my breath, T-shirt girl, is she the reason I'm doing love?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Beyonce's check-up one and give me body.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I'm great, we ring the alarm, Diva, you know what I'm saying?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: Mary, they're blodged enough crying, you know what I'm saying?
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: We keep going, we're going, we're going, we're going, we're going, we're going, we're going, yeah, I'm feeling it.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Jamie Fox, DJ play a love song to 112 asked her questions, you know, I'm very appreciative, though.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very appreciative of like my community, guy, my family.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: the people, you know, I get, I get so much love from the people, man.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of times people, they say, well, you know, you were behind the scenes and do you, it's like I've never been behind the scenes, it's just that's my role, right?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, my first number one song as an artist was Break Up Love and You Love and You Love and You Man, you know, you know,
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, I sing, I dance, I perform right, I produce, and I've had an opportunity to work with so many different people, you know, I get excited about it.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it's like, you said it's like, I've been excited about life as you know what I'm saying and people.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, at what point did you know you had the gift?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even a talent because like talent, you could kind of like train.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: You could like like a boxer could be like talented and trained to be that.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: But some people just got a gift at what point did you realize you had a gift?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Man, the moment I realized God was real, you know, it's like, it's some things that you sort of understand.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's some things that you just know.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a Pisces, so I have, I have hosted quite a few things about Pisces.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: And if you know about Pisces, like we're like intuitively gifted.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, yeah, for sure.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, but you also, you know, with that gift, it comes a big responsibility to know, not to use that gift, you know, as a tool to take advantage of people, you know.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think sometimes, you know, the gift and the curse of being in the places is like, sometimes people will take your kindness for a weakness.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm a very calm person, but I'm definitely, you know, competitive and love to win.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I love to win for other people, right?
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like to be an example for people to feel inspired, right?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, especially when you feel,
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: you know, defeated or down or, you know, told that you could never be this or that, you know, I've always, I've always considered myself a underdog too, because it's like it's not the, you know, this so much that comes within the first or the person that they actually see all the time, you know, it's like,
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: Man, that's a, man, that's a lot, you know, and, you know, I thought it was interesting to become something special from behind the curtain.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I thought that was, I, I've always thought that that would be.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: an amazing idea.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: What, um, like, let's talk about the journey real quick, right?
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, how did, how did you become the pen, right?
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what was that first opportunity where you wrote, you know, you wrote for someone and, and, and what was like that avalanche that continued to go hits after hits after hits after hits.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think the biggest thing was when my mom passed, my mother passed a year before, year came out.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: To the day, actually.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, that was a, that's a great question because the avalanche was the hurt.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: And, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and,
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: and to explain what the avalanche, because when you said avalanche, some people might look at it as, okay, what was the big Kahuna, right?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: But the big Kahuna for me was my mom passing it, right?
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: It just happened in sort of retro spec.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: Make a choice in life before she left this world.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: She inspired me to know that I could achieve anything that I thought that I can do.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like her coming to my games and what my mom and my dad, what my dad's a lot of times was in the field and you know on his special missions and stuff like that.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: My mother was always there, she was always, you know, my rock and the person that always inspired me to feel like, you know, anything's possible.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: So losing her was really the big avalanche before the avalanche.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I was so hurt, man.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was dealing with my whole career to be very honest
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was grieving, right?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: And my passion came from just losing the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me, and that was always there for me, you know?
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know,
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: losing her and then just deciding like and shit gonna stop me.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing, you know, because you know, she always told me, you ain't got about two choices, you know, do it or don't, you know?
- 16:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I wanted to just make her proud and I wanted to be something
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to be something, I wanted to be myself, number one, but I wanted to be something that mattered.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if that's, you know, sometimes I guess I don't want people to take that a wrong way because
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, she did teach me that I did matter, but me accomplishing some feats that were sort of unpredictable, unexpected, the idea of like something like who is this guy, like who, what, like what, what is that, right?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I found so much joy and appreciation.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: in that ambulance if you will.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so yeah, man, it's just, you know, that was the first, that was the first thing that really broke me, you know, and, and it's been a, it's been an amazing journey.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's funny, but not funny, because I, as you were talking, like I was, I was trying hard not to get emotional because I lost my mom as well, and the funny, I'm using the word funny, but you know, you know, how are we doing,
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: As I'm hearing you I feel like that was similar to me where like my mom was the you know Because I grew up, you know, I got I was the trouble kid.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: I was the last kid.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was the trouble kid I got kicked out of school all this stuff anybody always kind of me out my mom was the only one that I don't get what I did She was the one that was there for me and and ways
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I knew she was proud of me before she saw all of the success.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: So she's never really been able to see like like who, like Ash catches a thing now, like international millions, all the stuff.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: But she never got to see that.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I still kind of know I knew she was proud of me but for that, you know what I'm saying?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, you know, all the other enough is like that's why I still go hard because I'm like, yo, you're all going to know she'll be
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm even though she's, you know, I still believe energy doesn't die, so she's still here.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think she actually is the one that's like push it, even the alley-yooks and all that stuff that I go hard for her, right?
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Because I just know, like, it's funny, like, that we here, and I'll just say this in front of him, but my producer, like, his mom was here the other day, right?
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: And he don't notice, but I got mad emotional, right?
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I was like, you know, I'm so proud of him because she like the look or her face when she likes saw him.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like just like she's a mommy and my mom and I was like yo, what is what if my mom could see this right like what like Talk a little bit about that feeling like because it's like Like if you say you know, she passed a year from the day that you wrote year like that's I'm gonna tell you a year to the day Kind of it coming out row and and and I do that same thing I I I really
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: have my days, man.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I really, you know, I'd be like, you know, people, like, oh, man, I said, man, I cried a minute.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for sure, because you be dealing with, like, and it's just like, you've tried to explain the people, like, I am not the one to fuck with, right?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because, man, I'm dealing with my own, I'm dealing with my own, yeah, shit.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like me giving myself to somebody else.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, man, people take that shit for, they take that shit for granted, but it's like, well, yeah, yeah, yeah, well, I just really gave you, I really gave you like a piece of mean, you know, I'm saying, yeah, if you on pre-shape that shit, that's cool, right, that's what you got to do with that shit, but just know, right.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you got that one, you had that one chance to experience me and I and I and I stay motivated bro for sure.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: You can you can't you can't allow you can allow people to break the spirit.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and part of that is our moms, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's like man, I think about my mom all the time is like special not be pissed off about some shit or like yeah.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: people trying to play with you.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, man, please don't let it.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I'm not even really, I'm not about none of that shit job we're talking about, but just no.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I really, you know, so it's always a fine line with knowing yourself first.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I spend a lot of time.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, meditating and shooting in the gym as they say, you know, I love to make make music and you know, even your ideas sometimes, you know, people people, you know, it's like, yeah.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just talk about the art of what you do is like, you can give so much of yourself and they just keep wanting more and more and more and more and more of you and it's just like, and then they get to they get to a place where people don't appreciate by norm saying, and it's just like, if you really, if you could go do this shit, we'll go do it if you and I find joy and the idea of like,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: sitting back and paying attention and letting the world speak to you.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good I found therapy and that's like hey if you made if you could make another me right in front You know them saying because you know the beautiful thing about life is um
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: When you hear is that you can enjoy the idea of being taken for granted.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: I enjoy the idea of being taken for granted sometimes because it teaches you how to take better care of yourself.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: down, they have downplayed the idea of loving someone and appreciating someone and thinking about someone.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, this doesn't roll with that.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like Bruce Lee is someone, that's like, he's like, one of my favorite
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even call him a athlete.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just call him a well fighter spirit.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, like Mike Tyson, I like love Michael Jordan.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: I like fighters, you know, I like I love Kobe, you know, I just like people who
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: willing to risk it all, you know, for the idea of, like, leaving it on a table all the on table, you know?
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I wanted to define music in a different way than what was presented to us before.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what evolution is all about, you know?
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm proud to be Sean
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: people that mire and some people some people I think some people mostly my competitors I would probably say would probably find me to be a bit a bit much, but I enjoy it.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what was the feeling like, um, you know, you heard you hear us should Chris Brown about the gold.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I think 90% of what they bought this thing come from the, like, a guy, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this is, this is probably I could have not.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: See, that's how God be working.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Because God be God.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: God be God.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and, and the beautiful thing about that is that it's almost like,
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: I've had some people say, you know, Sean, you don't have to say, you don't have to say what you do, and I'm like
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I do, I do have to tell you.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: Not you, I have to tell them, I have to tell them what fucking folk before they start playing me.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_00]: Don't fucking play with me, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not a, that's not a, you know, that's not in a threatening way.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, bro, I really love doing this shit.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a passionate, I'm gonna give you 60 every night.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, fat.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm living, yeah.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, because it's so many people involved in that, right?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: You think Mark pitch, you think Tina Davis, you think, Jive, you think RCA, you think, we're all of this thing.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: All of us were a, we all are ecosystem.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: And we were able to accomplish a goal to see those two guys come together.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: Get past their differences.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Back there.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and just man.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think about it arguably, and I would love to get to Thornton as well, arguably Michael Jackson, not arguably, but A.S.A.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Jackson is the greatest, greatest entertainer all the time, but when you ask who's after that, arguably, it's usher and Chris, arguably.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: What's it though?
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the greatest songwriter, I'm not saying that because I'm just saying no, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: Burst is who I am, but...
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: The reason why I say that is because, yes, it really is.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's in real time, guys.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: Today, Prince and Michael are coming together.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it just doesn't get, what can you say?
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: And to be arguably to both of their biggest songs, ever.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I told y'all, but I told y'all that you make sure you edit my shit properly, my wife.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, man, I just, you know, I, I love the competition.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: I love the people said before, I love the, you know, the, um,
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: camaraderie as well because what's beautiful is that, you know, I did get a chance to work with so many amazing people, you know, Chris was just a kid and he was just such an amazing.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: For me, it was just such an amazing, it just had an amazing spirit, you know what I'm saying?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I've really, at the time, it shut out sky storage, man, we got a chance to work together and what's so crazy, it's like, when I think about all of these, I won't tell too many stories because I don't want your interview to go away, you want it to go, but man, it's so much that happened, you know, it was just like, white,
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: why it couldn't have happened.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying from me and Scott getting into it in the studio that the first day that was working with Chris and and I was like
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: That ain't it my boy.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not that's not it.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's some rap shit.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: This young Michael, you know, and him saying, I'm Scott Stewart's and me saying, I'm showing Garrett, you know what I mean?
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it was up.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and and the irony that he's from Philly and my dad's from Philly and it's like,
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then so, and then Mark Fitz being there and shout out to my boy, Derek Jackson, who managed a low-dairy manager.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's my heart, um, uh, him managing, um, uh, Shakir.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's using managing Scott and Shakir Stewart.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: Western peace man took me you know him and Derek really great friends and all of this whole thing and Tina and Chris and it's just and Mark pits and now where Mark is and where Tina is and where Scott is still thriving and we all are thriving you know and to see this Chris
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: He flying around stadiums and doing 99,000 seeders.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, it's like, and to see us, your man, you know, I remember when they were trying to count him out and, you know, it was so much, uh, man, I just, it's so much that we, and people sometimes don't want to talk about it, but you got to talk about it because that's the part of life that
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: you get better at that right and you learn from your mistakes and you know me being me being me you know I'm I don't mind being the glue yeah for sure be like you'll shine you you don't feel like you should be like I'm like bro how many oh I many more you want me to do you know like you know look at yassie right you
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Who was hired a number one and speaking to that you know Jay giving me this name, and yeah, he gave me the name of it Craziness yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, seriously like really bro my life is like yeah
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot make this shit up, but what I will say has to get back to your mom and get back to all the reality of this whole thing is that
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: I was obedient, I was obedient to my mom, I was obedient to my parents, you know, I could have did a whole bunch of other things, could have been disrespectful, I could have been, you know, I could have been selfish so many different times.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: I could have took advantage of opportunities.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: I never did that.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: I never, I put producers on, put a lot of producers on.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, put a lot of people on.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: Never.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: I never, I never took people with publishing, I never did respect to people.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: I just gave my own man and I'm just happy to, you know, I'm just happy, man, shit, you know.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I just want people to know man, it's okay to.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay to shit, it's okay to let your hair down sometimes, you know what I'm saying to say shit, you know, I'm thankful, you can still be kind to people, you can make it all this, you can make as much money as you won't, man, but money ain't going money, you know, my mom, you say you learn a lot, you live long enough and what that means is to see the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea, the sea,
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: to see, um, tip, yeah, to see Luda.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: to see 50, to see Drake, to see, man, I don't remember, man, I remember me, now I'm future for the first time.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: To see Mike Will, Mike Will bought future to me.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, well, you need to fuck my blood.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, man, what does he do?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember how smart I thought future was.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because I knew he really, really, even though he was hustling,
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: I knew he was a very smart person when it came to music.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted that shit, you know what I mean?
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to make a point and all of these different, you know, all these different experiences, man, to see what everybody is.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_00]: Shit is this remarkable man, man, that's over.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: And it's funny, because you said this earlier where you talked about like pushing your anger, right?
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like you were in a hurt place when you wrote a lot of these hits.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I love, you know, and I don't want to know anybody to miss that.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: We are able to channel that anger in a way that's not destructive in a way that gives back to the world because like I said earlier like these are the soundtracks of our lives like like I remember the first time I heard year
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: I remember being at the party in Harlem, you were saying like, at the, at the, at the key, like, you're saying like, I, and, and, and the, and the feeling right, the, the girls I was trying to talk to like, there's a, there's a, there's a moment in that.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: You be what I'm saying and the, you know, again, being able to.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: channel that in the right way and not I wanted to make that point to because man I was doing a lot of uh I was doing a lot of uh up-tempo records you know what I'm saying man just because I first of all I love to do that but at the same time and I was hurting bro you know what I'm saying and this shit this shit was just not uh that's why I was kind of my you know my um
- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: I just didn't play with people, man.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I won't plan about the business and shit.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I was told, and I was on top of that, I was told a few times.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: I would never be on the left side of the charts.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was told all kinds of shit.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's just used to, it's just making me so ice-billy.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: Man, I am going to put these motherfuckers on the grill.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: They're gonna get on that grill.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: They are going to understand Rita Elaine, what she said, what she meant, because you can't allow people to trick you off the streets, but you know what I'm saying?
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: And we get, we get bamboo food tricked, just because we from, um, that's the whole thing about traveling because like traveling teaches you that, um, I remember meant, you know, my dad being a state station in Germany
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: That was, you know, a country, uh, I don't know, uh, maybe I don't have a way two hours away.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're, we're, we're kids didn't even have shoes.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: And, and so it ain't just in America that we'd be suffering in shit or, you know, in the hood, you know what I mean?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like going to Africa,
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, shit was real out there for me.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I got a chance to see Africa man for that.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I went to Zanzibar, of course.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's the beautiful side.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: I got a chance to see the world in a different way and we, you know, we sometimes make excuses for ourselves just because we came from, you know, humble times or humble, you know, humble.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: spaces that we, that's an excuse to hurt each other or to be, uh, to be, um, uh, negative.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I just, that my mind said was about turning my hurt into success.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that is really my story.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that's why I never really even cared about, like people be like, you know, man, you, you know, you don't feel like you should be, I'm like,
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: I am where I want to be.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: I am happy.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: I am successful.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: I am
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: inspiring, you know, I see the smile on people face when they see me, you know what I'm saying?
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: I see the girls.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I see it.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: Now everybody, but they do be like, no, that's it.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, man, it's been a, you know, it's been a, it's been a very,
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Amazing time, you know, I think the hardest part, though, is to not let people play on your to not play to not let people play on your weaknesses, yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think people take you for granted when you just be kind of cool and lay back and sit and then they fuck around to find out.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying it's just like, I don't even, they don't they don't realize.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: that the kindness is almost a suppression of the animal though.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it's funny that you mentioned some of the people that you admire, you know, like the Colby's, the Mike Tyson.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: I remember watching Mike Tyson cry.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: But people thought he was like he said he was crying because he'd know what type of animal he is and he And it's for I have this conversation all the time because like I like I didn't trouble paths.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: I kicked out of school stuff And with people see me you know the big jolly dude.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always smiling.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always happy and
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: I've had a lot of stuff slide, but people don't even understand no that I'm like, I'm saving because if the end one that I know, right, I know the type of where I'm willing to take certain stuff, you're gonna be saying, and so people take that for granted a lot of times, and it's okay though to benefit really, because at the end of the day, I don't have nothing to prove to nobody,
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: I understand, and I think that's what that matter, you're gonna ask that swear, man, sometimes bro.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: I just be looking at people, man, I'd be like, man, you got no idea about it, I swear to God.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, if God gave you this thing, you really got it.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, how many more times do you have, like, I watch, I watch people,
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: I watch people fumble.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: People are so determined.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: to eff you over sometimes.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: I have seen people after a whole shit up, just to prove a point.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: And you'd be like, bro, you don't do this.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: You do that, right?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: When you know yourself, when you got respect for people, when you have respect for God, when you got your mind in a place of knowing, hey,
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: I know you just said that.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm really not even going to think about that no more.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, let me get past the idea of thinking of you saying that, let me keep it moving and let me continue to be.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah because it take a lot like like that's the part that I think that sometimes and and I'm glad we have this conversation because it's like mental health It's like people make these excuses and shit to crash out like it's like, bro, you didn't really have to do that.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: That means you there's a weakness going on within you.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: There's a breakdown because you know, we all went to school together and share we know who the real tough guys are and even the tough guys.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like, you know, not you just you really just proving a point to prove a point, but it's like
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: The beautiful thing is that you want to see, like we should celebrate being black and African-American and from the hood and being able to have a story of like, man, I gave all myself to everybody else, and I feel good about it.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't walk away, I'm not, I don't wake up feeling less than, I don't wake up feeling like,
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, vengeful, I don't, I'm not in that energy bro.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like competing still.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'll finish getting this more for another 60.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, I want it.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: Who wanted it?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: Who wanted it?
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: How did you, so the music industry is like, no, no, to be like a cutthroat business, take advantage of artists.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: How, you know, how did you protect yourself as a writer?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: How did you make sure that you got your judge to do as a writer?
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: Well, first of all, I'm a producer, that's number one, right?
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: Because I understood what they didn't understand before they saw me, right?
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: I already knew how this shit worked.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: I studied, you know what I'm saying?
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I already, they weren't playing with me.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: They were trying, but they was not going to play with me.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, hey man, bro, I really can't do this shit.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm really good at it.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I wasn't, I just wasn't trying to allow them to play first play with my piece.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: I had already lost everything.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: I had lost the greatest thing ever happening in my life.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, no, you could really do the break me.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: So now you to piss me off.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm getting ready to just give you 60 every night, though.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, I ain't gonna give it to you two, three games.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then I had some of them just bold enough to be like, hey, Sean, I make hits.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: You, is you talking to me?
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: Right, right.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, now I'm going to give it to you every interview.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: You're catching it every time I wait.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you don't want them talking to.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, come on, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: I want that.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's what it's all about.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: But don't say it to me like it.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't know.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: So sometimes people be like, well, why the, Sean has to tell you how many,
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: What's your won't.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's the kind of business we end.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: And if they, I always thought it was crazy because they really try to break you down.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_00]: They'll tell you they to shit, but you can't say you to shit.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the merit time, right?
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I love about it.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, my ketchup has anywhere, right, right, right, right, right, right.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: I go to Germany on your ass and bam, and go, you understand, I go to England, just bam, you know what I mean?
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: If, if, if, if, if, if, I be trying to tell the executive stuff, plant, yeah, because you don't fuck around.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: And when they're motherfuckin' pendulum swing on over here.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna be looking crazy, you need the product.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_00]: Right, for sure.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: These people, I mean, like, I mean, I'm like, well, let me get this straight, yeah.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: You want to tool your contract.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on a lifetime of running, right?
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you was the same person complaining to get in the game.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, what are you doing?
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: What are we doing?
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't want to complain about none, but I just be like, man.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: Don't play yourself.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they be playing with it.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's just like, that's the part about the game that is the only thing I really don't like, you know?
- 45:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then we get fooled by the whole system, right?
- 45:59[SPEAKER_00]: And ain't nobody saying shit.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right, right.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: You failed me, I'm like, okay, we just got tricked.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, y'all wanna see Spotify, y'all wanna see the whole shit.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's crazy.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, excuse me, what is going on?
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're not helping us.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're even helping us get back, bro.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: This is the shit I be talking about.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, I got, I mean, I got to have so many different things.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: I would want to say to this generation of executives, producers, songwriters, artists.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: Man, just pay attention to that.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about that a little bit, right?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: Because I come from an era where I own music, right?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I remember being in high school, going to a tower records, going to HMVs, going to these places, and I own the actual record where I couldn't wait to take the CD out, read the credits.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I know, if you know, you know, that's like, you know, you read credits and all that, right?
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: But now, I mean, you said it right that we got tricked into the system where I don't own no music right now.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm I'm I'm on permanent lease.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on a permanent lease.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I got it like I got to pay.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: We don't even own the IP.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, this is what I'll be saying and what's so sad is just that.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: These people really, some of these execs, man, ages, acting like they really just acting like they can troll in the ball and I'm just like, bro, you don't make the product.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: And you're effin' us out of our product.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking at you crazy because I know you don't really do this.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: You don't really do it.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're here to help like I know when I'm when I go to studio with usher I'm not usher Okay, I'm Sean Garrett now when Sean Garrett doing his album or he doing his shit He that Sean Garrett, but this is usher.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm here to help usher I'm here to help Chris.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know me don't block me from working or helping Chris
- 48:20[SPEAKER_00]: because Chris helps yo job facts, you know what I mean?
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: Some publishing to performances, to keeping the money moving, to keeping the money moving in our house, in our community, in our culture.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: They don't get it.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like the stupidity is just beyond at this point.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I just,
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, shit man.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be like man, yeah, we're gonna do me some show.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a is there a um is there a solution to that because I like I even know like I don't even know what the numbers are the numbers are so outrageous where you
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: things that I mean this and bro, it takes people like yourself, first of all, to know what you talking about, or you interview anybody, you know, talking about the entire thing, us having some interesting conversations outside of just what is obvious, right?
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Us as, you know, us as African-American people,
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: We all ain't angry, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: We, you know, some of us are really intellectuals.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: Some of us are patient.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_00]: We got it.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: I tell a person in the minute.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, today's your day.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Let your boat flow.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want to get it in the way.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: I know why that's, yeah.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: But when my day is on my way, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is my time.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that means, but you know, I try to make fun of, uh, make life fun and make, um, conversation fun with a lot of people that be hurting.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because a lot of these artists, they hurt him, bro.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: They all got no way of figuring out their like pissed low key.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how in the hell did you get through, right?
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: You're not telling me something, my bro.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: You're not telling me, I'm like, bro, I am telling you.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: But what I am telling you is you got a really listen and pay attention to what's going on and then take that,
- 50:52[SPEAKER_00]: negativity and turn it into a positive thing.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_00]: You can't, man, you don't know what I'm dealing with, man, you don't know what I'm going to be like, yes, I do.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for the females, you know, you can't use that thing, all the time.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: It just gets to a point where it's gonna play out.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just logic.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, sometimes it's emotion, sometimes it's, you know, it's
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: You can't just do things to the point where you just don't realize that that glass can break.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you look at, um,
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: We have a lot of examples in front of us, you know, it's just got to pay attention to it.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, you look at usher where, you know, they would like, you know, usher's over.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wow, you know, that if she did that can happen to him, that definitely could happen to me.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so he went to Vegas.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 52:03[SPEAKER_00]: look at God.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_00]: They say, hey, when you go to Vegas, you know, that's when you careers over.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_00]: You only need one song, my nigga, one, you only need one opportunity.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: You need one possibility.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the reason, that's the way I look at life.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: I look at up mass with a God man, as long as I'm training.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_00]: I look a person any, I'm like, yeah, I hope you ready.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you ready because I'm going to get you as this work.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just the mentality.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it's nothing wrong with feeling like that.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, people act like, hey, yeah, it's, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, well, ain't this shit about fire?
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: And don't show a one smoke.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: I remember here, I remember Jim Maine to pre-say.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: It ain't bragging if you really did it.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying?
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of times people, it's the people who don't understand actually also what it takes to be number one, who have a problem with someone who have the proof to say that they're number one.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, that is, that's, you know, that's, that's really, you know, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a, it's a very slippery slope.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as well, Paul's, you know, Sam, but, but I mean, because people love to, you know, as they say, they'd like to build
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: someone tear me down, because as long as you're in the gym and you stay prepared, yeah, for whatever, like I think about life from the perspective of like, you know, God, God made, he made wind and water.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I'm saying.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: And fire, right?
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so if you don't realize that that is a part and a component of what God has to give, yeah, you might get your shit.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: You might be trying to prepare for the fire and then downwind, come catch your ass and then you're in a soccer room.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: And the film says the fact, that's the fact.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: What are you working on now?
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: Are you putting out more hits like what's happening?
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: Chris and usher, you know what I mean, speaking of the game.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, come on, it's the biggest show.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: Are you all kidding me, you know what I'm saying?
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited about that and I'm going, and I'm going to show up.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to show up, Rihanna.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: I was working on Beyonce, we're back and you know, I'm still
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'll be throwing my love.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: So that's it.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: Also, man, I'm doing the Shanggaard Experience, which is my shows that I'm starting to do, I'm really excited about that because eventually it's going to morph into a whole
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'll I'll I'll talk about that the next time I come but the junkyard experience is basically You know Think about it from a book to a I'm just gonna throw that out that was what we want about questions though.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, oh, you got a book yet I don't you know at you know think about it from the book think about it from Vegas think about it from Circus a lay you know I'm just I'm just really
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm leveling up man, I'm leveling up my perspectives of how good God has been.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: And again, man, meeting you, I think we met once before, I'm not sure, but I'm inspired because I love the energy, you know what I'm saying?
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes, man, people be like, they be trying to dim your damn light, man.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I like to be around, you know, I like to be around my tribe.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: I understand people that can't take the energy.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's the fact you know what I'm saying?
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I generally don't say a lot of shit.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm saying?
- 56:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to talk to people.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm in there with them gorillas, and I'm a gorilla, you know, but I love, I love, you know, just being around people, and I think the thing that keeps me more excited is the new artist.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I realized that we're in a time and period that we have to, I had to be a little patient because the system broke down.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: The system of music broke down.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: There is a change in
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it's, I don't know if it's actually adding up for the creatives and so I'm on this plight to try to help as many people as I possibly can, there's only so much of a game you can play.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm saying it's just like it's still point man, where it's like
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know you're going to be quiet, you know, and I'm saying, meaning, you know, this next generation deserves the same opportunity as we, as we're presented, right?
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm really,
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: I like, well, my man, the missus doing, he always says a lot of, you know, positive things about not only the business, but how to get better, things to learn, you know, don't, you know, because it is, it is sad, man, I mean, it's people out here.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: people out here are struggling musicians man they trying to do anything possible just to stay alive and um it's just sad man it's just like you know so it's gonna take all of us as a as a community man to to raise some sand about it and and and not
- 58:11[SPEAKER_00]: They always get one of us or two of us to put us in place.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_00]: They had a face on the shit, they had a bullshit, and they'd be the bullshit.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be the bullshit to the point, you'd just be like, man, set the, you know what I mean?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't really want to talk, you know what I mean?
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because you're leading us all down this whole.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_00]: We can't make no money, you can't make no performance royalties.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_00]: You can't, we have, they have completely taken,
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: the, not only the money, but they've taken out a value about it, yeah.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_00]: Your value is important.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_00]: Who you are as a human being, right?
- 58:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're in got a money man.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_00]: You feel in some kind of way.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_00]: You can't take care of your kids.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_00]: You're feeling some kind of way.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then the conundrum that becomes of your so famous.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: you can't even get a regular job.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's like a cash-22.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I could understand even from a, like I remember it's like not too long ago, since the dot x, like working at a job.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_01]: And people, you know, he was showing, like, you know, I'm at a job.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, man, like these legends who have to kind of do these things because they were taking advantage of you.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, man.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: And your pride is all you guys, pride is all you guys.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why, you know,
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think these people, you know, I would say this, I would say, the people that are in control of people's careers, be careful, because because these people, you know, you know, I ain't in the crash and out, but I'm just saying, it's just like, be careful with people lives, you know, and I'm saying, I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I'm saying, I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be careful with people's lives, you know, and I don't really want to be
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like to tell people I could do something for them and I can't you know what I'm saying because yeah it's hard out here bro and and and and it it's even more difficult when you when you see when you can afford to live and you see
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_00]: your people struggling because it puts pressure on you, it puts pressure, they already got pressure on them.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, like you said, it just, it evolves and explodes.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so we, we did know that we were going to, we were coming into a season of the halves and the have not.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I just try to give as much information as possible to the people that came after us and stay encouraging and stay positive.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_00]: Stay encouraging is the most.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I guess, you know, the most, um, the strongest word is I can use because, you know, it's just, um, you can't, you can't save everybody.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's the fact, you know, what should, what should thoughts about, uh, AI, why we saw the AI, the, you know, the AI singer, AI is doing some writing, what should thoughts about about that overall.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, AI thing, you know, I think evolution is real.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, part of understanding life is that, you know.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: As long as we got a tech world, you're going to have new ideas.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I probably would be hypocritical to say to speak completely against it when the NPC was created, right?
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_00]: The microphone was created, it amplifies our music, right?
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_00]: So to be honest, I have respect for all things.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_00]: Even though if it's not my favorite perspective, um, I don't feel like we can never replace the human.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as long as humans are the consumers, you know, and I'm saying, but at the end of the day, you know, yeah, I will have his place no matter if we wanted to be here and not I just don't feel like it should be used in it's a tool.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great tool.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_00]: I should say to sum it up.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's a great tool and
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like pro tools if you know how to use it.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
