Latest / Real Donald Trump Wisdom / DJT Audio Archive: Presidential Debate vs Hillary Clinton - Round 3 - Las Vegas, Nevada (October 19, 2016)
Transcript
- 0:00Good evening from the Thomas and Mack Center
- 0:02at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I'm Chris
- 0:06Wallace of Fox News, and I welcome you to the
- 0:09third and final of the 2016 presidential debates
- 0:12between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and
- 0:15Donald J. Trump. This debate is sponsored by
- 0:18the Commission on Presidential Debates. The Commission
- 0:21has designed the format, six roughly 15 -minute
- 0:25segments with two -minute answers to the first
- 0:27question. then open discussion for the rest of
- 0:30each segment. Both campaigns have agreed to those
- 0:33rules. For the record, I decided the topics and
- 0:37the questions in each topic. None of those questions
- 0:40has been shared with the commission or the two
- 0:43candidates. The audience here in the hall has
- 0:45promised to remain silent. No cheers, boos, or
- 0:48other interruptions so we and you can focus on
- 0:52what the candidates have to say. No noise except
- 0:55right now. as we welcome the Democratic nominee
- 0:58for president, Secretary Clinton, and the Republican
- 1:01nominee for president, Mr. Trump. Secretary Clinton,
- 1:22Mr. Trump, welcome. Let's get right to it. The
- 1:24first topic is the Supreme Court. You both talked
- 1:29briefly about the court in the last debate, but
- 1:31I want to drill down on this because the next
- 1:34president will almost certainly have at least
- 1:36one appointment and likely or possibly two or
- 1:39three appointments, which means that you... will,
- 1:43in effect, determine the balance of the court
- 1:45for what could be the next quarter century. First
- 1:48of all, where do you want to see the court take
- 1:50the country? And secondly, what's your view on
- 1:54how the Constitution should be interpreted? Do
- 1:57the founders' words mean what they say, or is
- 2:00it a living document to be applied flexibly according
- 2:05to changing circumstances? in this segment secretary
- 2:08clinton you go first you have two minutes thank
- 2:10you very much chris and thanks to unlv for hosting
- 2:14us you know i think when we talk about the supreme
- 2:16court it really raises the central issue in this
- 2:20election namely what kind of country are we going
- 2:23to be what kind of opportunities will we provide
- 2:26for our citizens what kind of rights will americans
- 2:30have and i feel strongly that the supreme court
- 2:34needs to stand on the side of the American people,
- 2:38not on the side of the powerful corporations
- 2:41and the wealthy. For me, that means that we need
- 2:45a Supreme Court that will stand up on behalf
- 2:49of women's rights, on behalf of the rights of
- 2:53the LGBT community, that will stand up and say
- 2:57no to Citizens United, a decision that has undermined
- 3:01the election system in our country because of
- 3:05the way it permits dark, unaccountable money
- 3:08to come into our electoral system. I have major
- 3:12disagreements with my opponent about these issues
- 3:15and others that will be before the Supreme Court.
- 3:18But I feel that at this point in our country's
- 3:21history, it is important that we not reverse
- 3:25marriage equality, that we not reverse Roe v.
- 3:29Wade. that we stand up against Citizens United,
- 3:33we stand up for the rights of people in the workplace,
- 3:36that we stand up and basically say the Supreme
- 3:39Court should represent all of us. That's how
- 3:42I see the court and the kind of people that I
- 3:45would be looking to nominate to the court would
- 3:49be in the great tradition of standing up to the
- 3:53powerful, standing up on behalf of our rights
- 3:56as Americans. and i look forward to having that
- 3:59opportunity i would hope that the senate would
- 4:01do its job and confirm the nominee that president
- 4:05obama has sent to them that's the way the constitution
- 4:08fundamentally should operate the president nominates
- 4:12and then the senate advises and consents or not
- 4:15but they go forward with the process secretary
- 4:19clinton thank you mr trump same question where
- 4:21do you want to see the court take the country
- 4:24and how do you believe the constitution should
- 4:26be interpreted? Well, first of all, it's great
- 4:30to be with you, and thank you, everybody. The
- 4:31Supreme Court, it's what it's all about. Our
- 4:34country is just so imperative that we have the
- 4:39right justices. Something happened recently where
- 4:42Justice Ginsburg made some very, very inappropriate
- 4:46statements toward me and toward a tremendous
- 4:49number of people, many, many millions of people
- 4:51that I represent. And she was forced to apologize,
- 4:55and apologize she did. But these were statements
- 4:58that should never, ever have been made. We need
- 5:01a Supreme Court that, in my opinion, is going
- 5:03to uphold the Second Amendment and all amendments,
- 5:06but the Second Amendment, which is under absolute
- 5:09siege. I believe if my opponent should win this
- 5:13race, which I truly don't think will happen,
- 5:16we will have a Second Amendment, which will be
- 5:19a very, very small replica of what it is right
- 5:22now. But I feel that it's absolutely important
- 5:26that we uphold because of the fact that it is
- 5:28under such trauma. I feel that the justices that
- 5:34I am going to appoint, and I've named 20 of them,
- 5:37the justices that I'm going to appoint will be
- 5:41pro -life. They will have a conservative bent.
- 5:44They will be protecting the Second Amendment.
- 5:46They are great scholars in all cases, and they're
- 5:49people of tremendous respect. They will interpret
- 5:53the Constitution the way the founders wanted
- 5:57it interpreted. And I believe that's very, very
- 6:01important. I don't think we should have justices
- 6:04appointed that decide what they want to hear.
- 6:06It's all about the Constitution of, and so important,
- 6:12the Constitution the way it was meant to be.
- 6:17And those are the people that I will appoint.
- 6:21Mr. Trump, thank you. We now have about 10 minutes
- 6:23for an open discussion. I want to focus on two
- 6:26issues that, in fact, by the justices that you
- 6:30name, could end up changing the existing law
- 6:33of the land. First is one that you mentioned,
- 6:36Mr. Trump, and that is guns. Secretary Clinton,
- 6:38you said last year, and let me quote, the Supreme
- 6:41Court is wrong on the Second Amendment. And now,
- 6:44in fact, in the 2008 Heller case, The court ruled
- 6:48that there is a constitutional right to bear
- 6:51arms, but a right that is reasonably limited.
- 6:54Those were the words of the judge, Antonin Scalia,
- 6:57who wrote the decision. What's wrong with that?
- 7:00Well, first of all, I support the Second Amendment.
- 7:03I lived in Arkansas for 18 wonderful years. I
- 7:06represented upstate New York. I understand and
- 7:09respect the tradition of gun ownership. It goes
- 7:12back to the founding of our country. But I also
- 7:15believe that there can be and must be reasonable
- 7:18regulation. Because I support the Second Amendment
- 7:22doesn't mean that I want people who shouldn't
- 7:24have guns to be able to threaten you, kill you
- 7:27or members of your family. And so when I think
- 7:31about what we need to do, we have 33 ,000 people
- 7:34a year who die from guns. I think we need comprehensive
- 7:39background checks. need to close the online loophole,
- 7:42close the gun show loophole. There's other matters
- 7:46that I think are sensible that are the kind of
- 7:49reforms that would make a difference that are
- 7:51not in any way conflicting with the Second Amendment.
- 7:55You mentioned the Heller decision and what I
- 7:57was saying that you referenced, Chris, was that
- 8:00I disagreed with the way the court applied the
- 8:04Second Amendment in that case because What the
- 8:07District of Columbia was trying to do was to
- 8:10protect toddlers from guns, and so they wanted
- 8:14people with guns to safely store them. And the
- 8:17court didn't accept that reasonable regulation,
- 8:20but they've accepted many others. So I see no
- 8:22conflict between saving people's lives and defending
- 8:26the Second Amendment. Let me bring Mr. Trump
- 8:28in here. The bipartisan open debate coalition
- 8:31got millions of votes on questions to ask here,
- 8:35and this... was, in fact, one of the top questions
- 8:38that they got. How will you ensure the Second
- 8:42Amendment is protected? You just heard Secretary
- 8:44Clinton's answer. Does she persuade you that
- 8:47while you may disagree on regulation, that, in
- 8:50fact, she supports a Second Amendment right to
- 8:52bear arms? Well, the D .C. v. Heller decision
- 8:55was very strongly, and she was extremely angry
- 8:59about it. I watched. I mean, she was very, very
- 9:01angry when upheld. And Justice Scalia was...
- 9:05so involved, and it was a well -crafted decision.
- 9:08But Hillary was extremely upset, extremely angry,
- 9:11and people that believe in the Second Amendment
- 9:14and believe in it very strongly were very upset
- 9:16with what she had to say. Well, let me bring
- 9:18in Secretary Clinton. Were you extremely upset?
- 9:21Well, I was upset because, unfortunately, dozens
- 9:24of toddlers injure themselves, even kill people
- 9:29with guns because, unfortunately, not everyone
- 9:32who... has loaded guns in their homes, takes
- 9:35appropriate precautions. But there's no doubt
- 9:38that I respect the Second Amendment, that I also
- 9:42believe there's an individual right to bear arms.
- 9:45That is not in conflict with sensible common
- 9:48sense regulation. And, you know, look, I understand
- 9:51that Donald's been strongly supported by the
- 9:55NRA. The gun lobby is on his side. They're running
- 9:58millions of dollars of ads against me. And I
- 10:00regret that because what I would like to see.
- 10:03is for people to come together and say, of course
- 10:06we're going to protect and defend the Second
- 10:08Amendment, but we're going to do it in a way
- 10:11that tries to save some of these 33 ,000 lives
- 10:14that we lose every year. Let me bring Mr. Trump
- 10:17back into that because, in fact, you oppose any
- 10:20limits on assault weapons, any limits on high
- 10:24-capacity magazines. You support a national right
- 10:27-to -carry law. Why, sir? well let me just tell
- 10:30you before we go any further in chicago which
- 10:33has the toughest gun laws in the united states
- 10:36probably you could say by far they have more
- 10:39gun violence than any other city so we have the
- 10:42toughest laws and you have tremendous gun violence
- 10:44i am a very strong supporter of the second amendment
- 10:48and i am i don't know if hillary was saying it
- 10:51in a sarcastic manner but i'm very proud to have
- 10:53the endorsement of the nra and it's the earliest
- 10:56endorsement they've ever given to anybody who
- 10:59ran for president. So I'm very honored by all
- 11:01of that. We are going to appoint justices. This
- 11:05is the best way to help the Second Amendment.
- 11:07We are going to appoint justices that will feel
- 11:10very strongly about the Second Amendment, that
- 11:13will not do damage to the Second Amendment. Well,
- 11:16let's pick up on another issue which divides
- 11:19you and the justices that whoever ends up winning
- 11:23this election appoints. could have a dramatic
- 11:25effect there, and that's the issue of abortion.
- 11:28Mr. Trump, you're pro -life, but I want to ask
- 11:31you specifically, do you want the court, including
- 11:34the justices that you will name, to overturn
- 11:37Roe v. Wade, which includes, in fact states,
- 11:41a woman's right to abortion? Well, if that would
- 11:43happen, because I am pro -life and I will be
- 11:46appointing pro -life judges, I would think that
- 11:48that will go back to the individual states. But
- 11:51I'm asking you specifically, would you like to...
- 11:52If they overturned it, it'll go back to the states.
- 11:55But what I'm asking you, sir, is, do you want
- 11:57to see the court overturn? You just said you
- 11:59want to see the court protect the Second Amendment.
- 12:01Do you want to see the court overturn? Well,
- 12:03if we put another two or perhaps three justices
- 12:07on, that's really what's going to be... That
- 12:09will happen. And that'll happen automatically,
- 12:12in my opinion, because I am putting pro -life
- 12:14injustices on the court. I will say this. It
- 12:17will go back to the states. and the states will
- 12:20then make a determination secretary well i i
- 12:22strongly support roe v wade which guarantees
- 12:25a constitutional right to a woman to make the
- 12:29most intimate most difficult in many cases decisions
- 12:33about her health care that one can imagine and
- 12:36in this case it's not only about roe v wade it
- 12:40is about what's happening right now in america
- 12:42so many states are putting very stringent regulations
- 12:48on women that block them from exercising that
- 12:52choice to the extent that they are defunding
- 12:55Planned Parenthood, which of course provides
- 12:57all kinds of cancer screenings and other benefits
- 13:00for women in our country. Donald has said he's
- 13:04in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood. He
- 13:06even supported shutting the government down to
- 13:08defund Planned Parenthood. I will defend Planned
- 13:12Parenthood. I will defend Roe v. Wade, and I
- 13:16will defend women's rights to make their own
- 13:18health care decisions. And we have come too far
- 13:21to have that turn back now. And indeed, he said
- 13:25women should be punished, that there should be
- 13:27some form of punishment. for women who obtain
- 13:32abortions, and I could just not be more opposed
- 13:35to that kind of thinking. I'm going to give you
- 13:37a chance to respond, but I want to ask you, Secretary
- 13:38Clinton, I want to explore how far you believe
- 13:41the right to abortion goes. You have been quoted
- 13:43as saying that the fetus has no constitutional
- 13:47rights. You also voted against a ban on late
- 13:52-term partial birth abortions. Why? Because Roe
- 13:56v. Wade very clearly sets out. that there can
- 14:01be regulations on abortion so long as the life
- 14:05and the health of the mother are taken into account.
- 14:09And when I voted as a senator, I did not think
- 14:12that that was the case. The kinds of cases that
- 14:16fall at the end of pregnancy are often the most
- 14:20heartbreaking, painful decisions for families
- 14:24to make. I have met with women who, toward the
- 14:27end of their pregnancy, get the worst news one
- 14:30could get, that their health is in jeopardy if
- 14:32they continue to carry to term or that something
- 14:36terrible has happened or just been discovered
- 14:38about the pregnancy. I do not think the United
- 14:42States government should be stepping in and making
- 14:45those most personal of decisions. So you can
- 14:49regulate if you are doing so. with the life and
- 14:53the health of the mother taken into account mr
- 14:55trump your reaction and particularly on this
- 14:57issue of late -term partial birth well i think
- 14:59it's terrible if you go with what hillary is
- 15:02saying in the ninth month you can take the baby
- 15:05and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother
- 15:09just prior to the birth of the baby now you can
- 15:13say that that's okay and hillary can say that
- 15:17that's okay but it's not okay with me Because
- 15:20based on what she's saying and based on where
- 15:22she's going and where she's been, you can take
- 15:25the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in
- 15:28the ninth month on the final day. And that's
- 15:32not acceptable. Well, that is not what happens
- 15:34in these cases. And using that kind of scare
- 15:38rhetoric is just terribly unfortunate. You should
- 15:41meet with some of the women that I've met with,
- 15:43women I've known over the course of my life.
- 15:46This is one of the worst. possible choices that
- 15:50any woman and her family has to make. And I do
- 15:54not believe the government should be making it.
- 15:56You know, I've had the great honor of traveling
- 15:58across the world on behalf of our country. I've
- 16:00been to countries where governments either forced
- 16:03women to have abortions like they used to do
- 16:05in China or forced women to bear children like
- 16:08they used to do in Romania. And I can tell you
- 16:11the government has no business. in the decisions
- 16:14that women make with their families in accordance
- 16:17with their faith, with medical advice. And I
- 16:20will stand up for that right. All right. Just
- 16:22briefly, I want to move on to another segment.
- 16:24And honestly, nobody has business doing what
- 16:27I just said, doing that as late as one or two
- 16:31or three or four days prior to birth. Nobody
- 16:34has that. All right. Let's move on. to the subject
- 16:37of immigration. And there is almost no issue
- 16:40that separates the two of you more than the issue
- 16:42of immigration. Actually, there are a lot of
- 16:44issues that separate the two of you. Mr. Trump,
- 16:47you want to build a wall. Secretary Clinton,
- 16:49you have offered no specific plan for how you
- 16:52want to secure our southern border. Mr. Trump,
- 16:55you are calling for major deportations. Secretary
- 16:57Clinton, you say that within your first 100 days
- 17:00as president, you're going to offer a package
- 17:02that includes a pathway to citizenship. The question
- 17:06really is, why are you right and your opponent
- 17:08wrong? Mr. Trump, you go first in this segment.
- 17:11You have two minutes. Well, first of all, she
- 17:12wants to give amnesty, which is a disaster and
- 17:15very unfair to all of the people that are waiting
- 17:16in line for many, many years. We need strong
- 17:19borders. In the audience tonight, we have four
- 17:22mothers of... I mean, these are unbelievable
- 17:26people that I've gotten to know over a period
- 17:28of years whose children have been killed, brutally
- 17:30killed by people that came into the country illegally.
- 17:33You have thousands of mothers and fathers and
- 17:36relatives all over the country. They're coming
- 17:39in illegally. Drugs are pouring in through the
- 17:41border. We have no country if we have no border.
- 17:44Hillary wants to give amnesty. She wants to have
- 17:46open borders. The border secure, as you know,
- 17:49the Border Patrol agent, 16 ,500 plus ICE last
- 17:52week. endorsed me first time they've ever endorsed
- 17:55a candidate it means their job is tougher but
- 17:59they know what's going on they know it better
- 18:01than anybody they want strong borders they feel
- 18:04we have to have strong borders i was up in new
- 18:06hampshire the other day the biggest complaint
- 18:08they have it's with all of the problems going
- 18:10on in the world many of the problems caused by
- 18:13hillary clinton and by barack obama All of the
- 18:15problems, their single biggest problem is heroin
- 18:18that pours across our southern borders, just
- 18:21pouring and destroying their youth. It's poisoning
- 18:23the blood of their youth and plenty of other
- 18:25people. We have to have strong borders. We have
- 18:29to keep the drugs out of our country. Right now,
- 18:32we're getting the drugs. They're getting the
- 18:34cash. We need strong borders. We need absolute.
- 18:37We cannot give amnesty. Now, I want to build
- 18:41the wall. We need the wall. The Border Patrol.
- 18:44ice. They all want the wall. We stop the drugs.
- 18:47We shore up the border. One of my first acts
- 18:50will be to get all of the drug lords, all of
- 18:52the bad ones. We have some bad, bad people in
- 18:55this country that have to go out. We're going
- 18:57to get them out. We're going to secure the border.
- 18:59And once the border is secured at a later date,
- 19:02we'll make a determination as to the rest. But
- 19:04we have some bad hombres here and we're going
- 19:07to get them out. Mr. Trump, thank you. same question
- 19:11to you secretary clinton basically why are you
- 19:13right mr trump is wrong well as he was talking
- 19:16i was thinking about a young girl i met here
- 19:19in las vegas carla who was very worried that
- 19:23her parents might be deported because she was
- 19:27born in this country but they were not they work
- 19:30hard they do everything they can to give her
- 19:32a good life and you're right i don't want to
- 19:35rip families apart i don't want to be sending
- 19:38parents away from children I don't want to see
- 19:41the deportation force that Donald has talked
- 19:44about in action in our country. We have 11 million
- 19:48undocumented people. They have 4 million American
- 19:51citizen children, 15 million people. He said
- 19:55as recently as a few weeks ago in Phoenix that
- 19:58every undocumented person would be subject to
- 20:00deportation. Now, here's what that means. It
- 20:03means you would have to have a massive law enforcement
- 20:06presence where law enforcement officers would
- 20:09be going school to school, home to home, business
- 20:12to business, rounding up people who are undocumented.
- 20:16And we would then have to put them on trains,
- 20:20on buses to get them out of our country. I think
- 20:23that is an idea that is not in keeping with who
- 20:27we are as a nation. I think it's an idea that
- 20:30would rip our country apart. I have been for
- 20:34border security for years. I voted for border
- 20:37security in the United States Senate. And my
- 20:39comprehensive immigration reform plan, of course,
- 20:42includes border security. But I want to put our
- 20:45resources where I think they're most needed,
- 20:48getting rid of any violent person, anybody who
- 20:52should be deported, we should deport them. when
- 20:55it comes to the wall that donald talks about
- 20:57building he went to mexico we had a meeting with
- 21:00the mexican president didn't even raise it he
- 21:02choked and then got into a twitter war because
- 21:05the mexican president said we're not paying for
- 21:07that wall so i think we are both a nation of
- 21:10immigrants and we are a nation of laws and that
- 21:13we can act accordingly and that's why i'm introducing
- 21:16comprehensive immigration reform within the first
- 21:19hundred days with a path to citizenship. Thank
- 21:22you, Secretary Clinton. I want to follow up.
- 21:24I think I should respond to that. First of all,
- 21:27I had a very good meeting with the president
- 21:29of Mexico. Very nice man. We will be doing very
- 21:33much better with Mexico on trade deals, believe
- 21:35me. The NAFTA deal signed by her husband is one
- 21:38of the worst deals ever made of any kind, signed
- 21:40by anybody. It's a disaster. Hillary Clinton
- 21:43wanted the wall. Hillary Clinton fought for the
- 21:46wall in 2006 or thereabouts. Now, she never gets
- 21:52anything done, so naturally the wall wasn't built.
- 21:54But Hillary Clinton wanted the wall. We are a
- 21:58country of laws. And by the way, I'd like to
- 22:02hear from Secretary Clinton. I voted for border
- 22:07security, and there are some limited places where
- 22:12that was appropriate. There also is necessarily
- 22:14going to be new technology and how best to deploy
- 22:18that. it is clear when you look at what donald
- 22:22has been proposing he started his campaign bashing
- 22:25immigrants calling mexican immigrants rapists
- 22:27and criminals and drug dealers that he has a
- 22:31very different view about what we should do to
- 22:34deal with immigrants now what i am also arguing
- 22:37is that bringing undocumented immigrants out
- 22:41from the shadows putting them into the formal
- 22:44economy will be good because then employers can't
- 22:47exploit them and undercut Americans' wages. And
- 22:50Donald knows a lot about this. He used undocumented
- 22:52labor to build the Trump Tower. He underpaid
- 22:55undocumented workers. And when they complained,
- 22:58he basically said what a lot of employers do.
- 23:00You complain, I'll get you deported. I want to
- 23:04get everybody out of the shadows, get the economy
- 23:06working, and not let employers like Donald exploit
- 23:10undocumented workers, which hurts them, but also
- 23:12hurts American workers. President Obama has moved
- 23:16millions of people out. Nobody knows about it.
- 23:18Nobody talks about it. But under Obama, millions
- 23:20of people have been moved out of this country.
- 23:22They've been deported. She doesn't want to say
- 23:24that, but that's what's happened. And that's
- 23:26what's happened, big league. As far as moving
- 23:29these people out and moving, we either have a
- 23:32country or we don't. We're a country of laws.
- 23:34We either have a border or we don't. Now, you
- 23:37can come back in and you can become a citizen,
- 23:40but it's very unfair. We have millions of people.
- 23:42that did it the right way. They're on line. They're
- 23:44waiting. We're going to speed up the process,
- 23:46big league, because it's very inefficient. but
- 23:49they're online and they're waiting to become
- 23:50citizens. Very unfair that somebody runs across
- 23:53the border, becomes a citizen. Under her plan,
- 23:56you have open borders, you would have a disaster
- 23:58on trade, and you will have a disaster with your
- 24:00open borders. But what she doesn't say is that
- 24:03President Obama has deported millions and millions
- 24:06of people just the way it is. We will not have
- 24:11open borders. That is a rank mischaracterization.
- 24:14We will have secure borders, but we will also...
- 24:18have reform and this used to be a bipartisan
- 24:21issue. Ronald Reagan was the last president to
- 24:24sign immigration reform and George W Bush supported
- 24:27it as well. Secretary Clinton I want to clear
- 24:30up your position on this issue because in a speech
- 24:33you gave to a Brazilian bank for which you were
- 24:35paid two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars
- 24:37we've learned from the WikiLeaks that you said
- 24:40this and I want to quote my dream is a hemispheric
- 24:43common market with open trade and open borders
- 24:46so That's the question. That's the question.
- 24:51Please quiet, everybody. Is that your dream,
- 24:53open borders? Well, if you went on to read the
- 24:56rest of the sentence, I was talking about energy.
- 24:59We trade more energy with our neighbors than
- 25:03we trade with the rest of the world combined.
- 25:05And I do want us to have an electric grid, an
- 25:09energy system that crosses borders. I think that
- 25:12would be a great benefit to us. You are very
- 25:16clearly quoting from WikiLeaks, and what's really
- 25:19important about WikiLeaks is that the Russian
- 25:22government has engaged in espionage against Americans.
- 25:28They have hacked American websites, American
- 25:32accounts of private people, of institutions.
- 25:35Then they have given that information to WikiLeaks
- 25:40for the purpose of putting it on the Internet.
- 25:43This has come from the highest levels of the
- 25:45Russian government, clearly from Putin himself,
- 25:47in an effort, as 17 of our intelligence agencies
- 25:51have confirmed, to influence our election. So
- 25:55I actually think the most important question
- 25:57of this evening, Chris, is finally will Donald
- 26:01Trump admit and condemn that the Russians are
- 26:04doing this and make it clear that he will not...
- 26:09have the help of Putin in this election, that
- 26:13he rejects Russian espionage against Americans,
- 26:17which he actually encouraged in the past. Those
- 26:20are the questions we need answered. We've never
- 26:22had anything like this happen in any of our elections
- 26:24before. That was a great pivot off the fact that
- 26:27she wants open borders, okay? How did we get
- 26:30up to Putin? Hold on. Hold on. Wait. Hold on,
- 26:34folks, because this is going to end up getting
- 26:36out of control. Let's try to keep it quiet. For
- 26:39the candidates and for the American people. So
- 26:41just to finish on the borders. Yes. She wants
- 26:43open borders. People are going to pour into our
- 26:46country. People are going to come in from Syria.
- 26:48She wants 550 % more people than Barack Obama.
- 26:53And he has thousands and thousands of people.
- 26:55They have no idea where they come from. And you
- 26:57see, we are going to stop radical Islamic terrorism
- 27:01in this country. She won't even mention the words
- 27:04and neither will President Obama. So I just want
- 27:07to tell you. She wants open borders. Now we can
- 27:09talk about Putin. I don't know Putin. He said
- 27:12nice things about me. If we got along well, that
- 27:14would be good. If Russia and the United States
- 27:17got along well and went after ISIS, that would
- 27:20be good. He has no respect for her. He has no
- 27:24respect for our president. And I'll tell you
- 27:26what, we're in very serious trouble because we
- 27:28have a country with tremendous numbers of nuclear
- 27:32warheads, 1 ,800, by the way, where they expanded
- 27:36and we didn't. 1800 nuclear warheads and she's
- 27:40playing chicken look from everything i see has
- 27:45no respect for this person well that's because
- 27:49he'd rather have a puppet as president of the
- 27:51united states it's pretty clear it's pretty clear
- 27:55you won't admit that the russians have engaged
- 27:58in cyber attacks against the united states of
- 28:00america that you encouraged espionage against
- 28:05our people that you are willing to spout the
- 28:09Putin line sign up for his wish list break up
- 28:13NATO do whatever he wants to do and that you
- 28:16continue to get help from him because he has
- 28:21a very clear favorite in this race so I think
- 28:25that this is such an unprecedented situation
- 28:28we've never had a foreign government trying to
- 28:31interfere in our election we have 17 17 intelligence
- 28:35agencies civilian and military who have all concluded
- 28:40that these espionage attacks these cyber attacks
- 28:44come from the highest levels of the kremlin and
- 28:47they are designed to influence our election I
- 28:50find that deeply disturbing. And I think it's
- 28:53time that you take a stand. She has no idea whether
- 28:55it's Russia, China, or anybody else. I am not
- 28:58quoting myself. She has no idea. I am quoting
- 28:5917. You have no idea. 17 intelligence. Do you
- 29:02doubt 17 military and civilian agencies? Well,
- 29:07he'd rather believe Vladimir Putin than the military
- 29:11and civilian intelligence professionals who are
- 29:14sworn to protect us. I find that just absolutely.
- 29:17She doesn't like Putin because Putin. Putin has
- 29:20outsmarted her at every step of the way. Excuse
- 29:23me. Putin has outsmarted her in Syria. He's outsmarted
- 29:28her at every step of the way. I do get to ask
- 29:30some questions. Yes. And I would like to ask
- 29:33you this direct question. The top national security
- 29:36officials of this country do believe that Russia
- 29:38has been behind these hacks. Even if you don't
- 29:42know for sure whether they are, do you condemn?
- 29:45any interference by russia in the american election
- 29:48by russia or anybody else you condemn their interference
- 29:51of course i condemn of course i can i don't know
- 29:54putin i have no idea i never met putin this is
- 29:57not my best friend but if the united states got
- 30:00along with russia wouldn't be so bad let me tell
- 30:03you putin has outsmarted her and obama at every
- 30:06single step of the way whether it's syria no
- 30:09you name it missiles take a look at the startup
- 30:13that they signed The Russians have said, according
- 30:16to many, many reports, I can't believe they allowed
- 30:20us to do this. They create warheads, and we can't.
- 30:23The Russians can't believe it. She has been outsmarted
- 30:26by Putin, and all you have to do is look at the
- 30:28Middle East. They've taken over. We've spent
- 30:30$6 trillion. They've taken over the Middle East.
- 30:33She has been outsmarted. and outplayed worse
- 30:37than anybody i've ever seen in any government
- 30:39whatsoever we're a long way away from their immigration
- 30:42but i'm gonna let you finish this topic you got
- 30:45about 45 seconds yeah and she always will be
- 30:48i i find it ironic that he's raising nuclear
- 30:51uh weapons this is a person who has been very
- 30:55cavalier even casual about the use of nuclear
- 30:58weapons he's advocated more countries getting
- 31:01them japan korea even saudi arabia he said well
- 31:05if we have them why don't we use them which i
- 31:07think is terrifying but here's the deal the bottom
- 31:10line on nuclear weapons is that when the president
- 31:13gives the order it must be followed there's about
- 31:18four minutes between the order being given and
- 31:21the people responsible for launching nuclear
- 31:24weapons to do so and that's why 10 people who
- 31:28have had that awesome responsibility have come
- 31:30out and in an unprecedented way said they would
- 31:33not trust Donald Trump with the nuclear codes
- 31:36or to have his finger on the nuclear button.
- 31:39I have 200 generals and admirals, 21 endorsing
- 31:44me, 21 Congressional Medal of Honor recipients.
- 31:47As far as Japan and other countries, we are being
- 31:52ripped off by everybody in the world. We're defending
- 31:55other countries. We are spending a fortune doing
- 31:57it. They have the bargain of the century. All
- 32:00I said is we have to renegotiate these agreements
- 32:03because our country cannot afford to defend Saudi
- 32:06Arabia, Japan, Germany, South Korea, and many
- 32:09other places. We cannot continue to afford. She
- 32:12took that as saying nuclear weapons. Look, she's
- 32:16been proven to be a liar on so many different
- 32:18ways. This is just another lie. Well, I'm just
- 32:22quoting you. There's no quote. You're not going
- 32:25to find a quote from me. competition in asia
- 32:31you said you know go ahead enjoy yourselves folks
- 32:34that kind and defend yourselves well and defend
- 32:39yourselves i didn't say nuclear and defend yourself
- 32:41the united states has kept the peace through
- 32:44our alliances donald wants to tear up our alliances
- 32:48i think it makes the world safer and frankly
- 32:51it makes the united states safer i would work
- 32:53with our allies in asia in europe in the middle
- 32:56east and elsewhere That's the only way we're
- 32:59going to be able to keep the peace. We are going
- 33:00to move on to the next topic, which is the economy.
- 33:04And I hope we handled that as well as we did
- 33:06immigration. You also have very different ideas
- 33:11about how to get the economy growing faster.
- 33:13Secretary Clinton, in your plan, government plays
- 33:16a big role. You see more government spending,
- 33:21more entitlements, more tax credits, more tax
- 33:24penalties. Mr. Trump, you want to get government
- 33:27out with lower taxes and less regulation. We're
- 33:30going to drill down into this a little bit more.
- 33:32But in this overview, please explain to me why
- 33:35you believe that your plan will create more jobs
- 33:37and growth for this country and your opponent's
- 33:41plan will not. In this round, you go for a secretary
- 33:43Clinton. Well, I think when the middle class
- 33:45thrives, America thrives. And so my plan is based
- 33:49on growing the economy, giving middle class families
- 33:53many more opportunities. I want us to have the
- 33:56biggest jobs program since World War II, jobs
- 33:59in infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
- 34:01I think we can compete with high wage countries,
- 34:04and I believe we should. New jobs and clean energy,
- 34:07not only to fight climate change, which is a
- 34:09serious problem, but to create new opportunities
- 34:12and new businesses. I want us to do more to help
- 34:15small business. That's where two -thirds of the
- 34:17new jobs are going to come from. I want us to
- 34:19raise the national minimum wage because people
- 34:22who live in poverty should not, who work full
- 34:25-time, should not still be in poverty. And I
- 34:27sure do want to make sure women get equal pay
- 34:29for the work we do. I feel strongly that we have
- 34:32to have an education system that starts with
- 34:34preschool and goes through college. That's why
- 34:37I want more technical education in high schools
- 34:39and in community colleges, real apprenticeships
- 34:42to prepare young people for the jobs of the future.
- 34:45I want to make college debt -free and for families
- 34:48making less than $125 ,000. You will not get
- 34:51a tuition bill from a public college or university
- 34:54if the plan that I worked on with Bernie Sanders
- 34:57is enacted. And we're going to work hard to make
- 35:00sure that it is because we are going to go where
- 35:03the money is. Most of the gains in the last years
- 35:07since the Great Recession have gone to the very
- 35:09top. So we are going to have the wealthy pay
- 35:12their fair share. We're going to have corporations
- 35:14make a contribution greater than they are now
- 35:17to our country. That is a plan that has been
- 35:20analyzed by independent experts, which said that
- 35:23it could produce 10 million new jobs. By contrast,
- 35:26Donald's plan has been analyzed to conclude it
- 35:30might lose 3 .5 million jobs. Why? Because his
- 35:33whole plan is to cut taxes, to give the biggest
- 35:37tax breaks ever to the wealthy and to corporations,
- 35:40adding $20 trillion to our debt. and causing
- 35:44the kind of dislocation that we have seen before
- 35:48because it truly will be trickle -down economics
- 35:51on steroids. So the plan I have, I think, will
- 35:53actually produce greater opportunities. The plan
- 35:56he has will cost us jobs and possibly lead to
- 35:59another great recession. Secretary, thank you.
- 36:01Mr. Trump, why will your plan create more jobs
- 36:05and growth than Secretary Clinton? Well, first
- 36:07of all, before I start on my plan, her plan is
- 36:09going to raise taxes and even double your taxes.
- 36:12Her tax... plan is a disaster. And she can say
- 36:15all she wants about college tuition. And I'm
- 36:18a big proponent. We're going to do a lot of things
- 36:20for college tuition, but the rest of the public
- 36:22is going to be paying for it. We will have a
- 36:24massive, massive tax increase under Hillary Clinton's
- 36:27plan. But I'd like to start off where we left,
- 36:30because when I said Japan and Germany, and I'm
- 36:35not to single them out, but South Korea, these
- 36:37are very rich, powerful countries, Saudi Arabia.
- 36:41Nothing but money. We protect Saudi Arabia. Why
- 36:44aren't they paying? She immediately, when she
- 36:46heard this, I questioned it. And I questioned
- 36:48NATO. Why aren't the NATO questioned? Why aren't
- 36:50they paying? Because they weren't paying. Since
- 36:52I did this, this was a year ago, all of a sudden
- 36:55they're paying. And I've been given a lot of
- 36:56credit for it. All of a sudden they're starting
- 36:58to pay up. They have to pay up. We're protecting
- 37:01people. They have to pay up. And I'm a big fan
- 37:03of NATO, but they have to pay up. She comes out
- 37:06and said... We love our allies. We think our
- 37:09allies are great. Well, it's awfully hard to
- 37:11get them to pay up when you have somebody saying,
- 37:13we think how great they are. We have to tell
- 37:15Japan in a very nice way. We have to tell Germany,
- 37:18all of these countries, South Korea, we have
- 37:20to say, you have to help us out. We have, during
- 37:24his regime, during President Obama's regime,
- 37:27we've doubled our national debt. We're up to
- 37:30$20 trillion. So my plan, we're going to renegotiate
- 37:34trade deals. We're going to have a lot of free
- 37:35trade. We're going to have free trade, more free
- 37:37trade than we have right now. But we have horrible
- 37:39deals. Our jobs are being taken out by the deal
- 37:41that her husband signed, NAFTA, one of the worst
- 37:43deals ever. Our jobs are being sucked out of
- 37:46our economy. You look at all of the places that
- 37:49I just left. You go to Pennsylvania. You go to
- 37:51Ohio. You go to Florida. You go to any of them.
- 37:53You go upstate New York. Our jobs have fled to
- 37:56Mexico and other places. We're bringing our jobs
- 37:58back. I am going to renegotiate NAFTA. And if
- 38:01I can't make a great deal, then we're going to
- 38:03terminate NAFTA and we're going to create new
- 38:05deals. We're going to have trade. But we're going
- 38:07to terminate it. We're going to make a great
- 38:10trade deal. And if we can't, we're going to go
- 38:12a separate way because it has been a disaster.
- 38:16We are going to cut taxes massively. We're going
- 38:18to cut business taxes massively. They're going
- 38:21to start hiring people. We're going to bring
- 38:23the $2 .5 trillion that's offshore back into
- 38:25the country. we are going to start the engine
- 38:28rolling again because right now our country is
- 38:30dying at one percent gdp well let me translate
- 38:34that if i can chris because um you can't the
- 38:38fact is he's going to uh advocate for the largest
- 38:42tax cuts we've ever seen three times more than
- 38:45the tax cuts under the bush administration i
- 38:48have said repeatedly throughout this campaign
- 38:51i will not raise taxes on anyone making 250 000
- 38:55or less. I also will not add a penny to the debt.
- 39:00I have costed out what I'm going to do. He will,
- 39:03through his massive tax cuts, add $20 trillion
- 39:06to the debt. Well, he mentioned the debt. We
- 39:09know how to get control of the debt. When my
- 39:11husband was president, we went from a $300 billion
- 39:13deficit to a $200 billion surplus, and we were
- 39:16actually on the path to eliminating the national
- 39:19debt. When President Obama came into office,
- 39:22he inherited the worst economic disaster since
- 39:24the Great Depression. He has cut the deficit
- 39:27by two -thirds. So, yes, one of the ways you
- 39:30go after the debt, one of the ways you create
- 39:33jobs is by investing in people. So I do have
- 39:36investments, investments in new jobs, investments
- 39:40in education, skill training, and the opportunities
- 39:43for people to get ahead and stay ahead. That's
- 39:46the kind of approach that will work. Cutting
- 39:49taxes on the wealthy, we've tried that. It has
- 39:52not worked the way that it has been promised.
- 39:55Secretary Clinton, I want to pursue your plan
- 39:57because in many ways it is similar to the Obama
- 40:01stimulus plan in 2009, which has led to the slowest
- 40:06GDP growth since 1949. Correct. Thank you, sir.
- 40:13You told me in July when we spoke that the problem
- 40:16is that President Obama didn't get to do enough.
- 40:19in what he was trying to do with this stimulus.
- 40:21So is your plan basically even more of the Obama
- 40:25stimulus? Well, it's a combination, Chris. And
- 40:28let me say that when you inherit the level of
- 40:32economic catastrophe that President Obama inherited,
- 40:37it was a real touch -and -go situation. I was
- 40:40in the Senate before I became Secretary of State.
- 40:43I've never seen people as physically distraught
- 40:48as the Bush administration team was because of
- 40:52what was happening to the economy. I personally
- 40:54believe that the steps that President Obama took
- 40:58saved the economy. He doesn't get the credit
- 41:01he deserves for taking some very hard positions.
- 41:04But it was a terrible recession. So now we've
- 41:08dug ourselves out of it. We're standing, but
- 41:10we're not yet running. So what I am proposing
- 41:13is that we invest from the middle out and the
- 41:16ground up, not the top down. That is not going
- 41:20to work. That's why what I have put forward doesn't
- 41:23add a penny to the debt. But it is the kind of
- 41:26approach that will enable more people to take
- 41:29those new jobs, higher -paying jobs. We're beginning
- 41:32to see some increase in incomes, and we certainly
- 41:36have had a long string of increasing jobs. We've
- 41:39got to do more to get the whole economy moving,
- 41:43and that's what I believe. I will be able to
- 41:45do. Mr. Trump, even conservative economists who
- 41:48have looked at your plans say that the numbers
- 41:50don't add up, that your idea, and you've talked
- 41:53about 25 million jobs created, 4 % growth, is
- 41:59unrealistic. And they say, you talk a lot about
- 42:03growing the energy industry, they say with oil
- 42:05prices as low as they are right now, that's unrealistic
- 42:08as well. Your response? So I just left some high
- 42:11representatives of India. They're growing at
- 42:148%. China is growing at 7%, and that, for them,
- 42:19is a catastrophically low number. We are growing.
- 42:22Our last report came out, and it's right around
- 42:25the 1 % level, and I think it's going down. Last
- 42:28week, as you know, at the end of last week, they
- 42:31came out with an anemic jobs report, a terrible
- 42:34jobs report. In fact, I said, is that the last
- 42:37jobs report before the election? Because if it
- 42:39is, I should win easily. It was so bad. The report
- 42:42was so bad. Look, our country is stagnant. We've
- 42:47lost our jobs. We've lost our businesses. We're
- 42:51not making things anymore, relatively speaking.
- 42:54Our product is pouring in from China, pouring
- 42:56in from Vietnam, pouring in from all over the
- 42:58world. I've visited so many communities. This
- 43:01has been such an incredible education for me,
- 43:03Chris. I've gotten to know so many. I've developed
- 43:06so many friends over the last year. And they
- 43:09cry. when they see what's happened. I passed
- 43:11factories that were thriving 20, 25 years ago,
- 43:14and because of the bill that her husband signed
- 43:16and she blessed 100%, it is just horrible what's
- 43:21happened to these people in these communities.
- 43:22Now, she can say that her husband did well, but
- 43:25boy, did they suffer as NAFTA kicked in, because
- 43:28it didn't really kick in very much, but it kicked
- 43:30in after they left. Boy, did they suffer. That
- 43:33was one of the worst things that's ever been
- 43:35signed by our country. Now she wants to sign
- 43:37Trans -Pacific Partnership, and she wants it.
- 43:40She lied when she said she didn't call it the
- 43:42gold standard in one of the debates. She totally
- 43:44lied. She did call it the gold standard, and
- 43:46they actually fact -checked, and they said I
- 43:48was right. I want to give you a chance to briefly
- 43:51speak to that, and then I want to pivot to one
- 43:54sixth of the economy, which is Obamacare. But
- 43:56go ahead, briefly. First, let me say, number
- 43:59one, when I saw the final agreement for TPP,
- 44:03I said I was against it. It didn't meet my test.
- 44:06I've had the same test. Does it create jobs,
- 44:08raise incomes, and further our national security?
- 44:11I'm against it now. I'll be against it after
- 44:13the election. I'll be against it when I'm president.
- 44:15There's only one of us on this stage who's actually
- 44:17shipped jobs to Mexico, because that's Donald.
- 44:19He's shipped jobs to 12 countries, including
- 44:22Mexico. But he mentioned China. and you know
- 44:25one of the biggest problems we have with china
- 44:26is the illegal dumping of steel and aluminum
- 44:29into our markets i have fought against that as
- 44:33a senator i've stood up against it as secretary
- 44:35of state donald has bought chinese steel and
- 44:38aluminum in fact the trump hotel right here in
- 44:41las vegas was made with chinese steel so he goes
- 44:44around with crocodile tears about how terrible
- 44:46it is but he has given jobs to chinese steel
- 44:49workers not american steel workers that's the
- 44:51kind of approach that is just not going to work
- 44:55we're going to pull the country together we're
- 44:57going to have trade agreements that we enforce
- 44:58that's why i'm going to have a trade prosecutor
- 45:01for the first time in history and we're going
- 45:03to enforce those agreements and we're going to
- 45:06look for businesses to help us by buying American
- 45:09products. I ask a simple question. She's been
- 45:12doing this for 30 years. Why the hell didn't
- 45:15you do it over the last 15, 20 years? You were
- 45:18very much involved. Excuse me. My turn. You were
- 45:22very much involved in every aspect of this country.
- 45:25Very much. And you do have experience. I say
- 45:28the one thing you have over me is experience,
- 45:30but it's bad experience because what you've done
- 45:32has turned out badly. For 30 years, you've been
- 45:35in a position to help. and if you say that i
- 45:37use steel or i use something else i make it impossible
- 45:41for me to do that i wouldn't mind the problem
- 45:44is you talk but you don't get anything done hillary
- 45:47you don't just like when you ran the state department
- 45:49six billion dollars was missing how do you miss
- 45:53six billion dollars you ran the state department
- 45:55six billion dollars was either stolen they don't
- 45:59know it's gone six billion dollars if you become
- 46:04president This country is going to be in some
- 46:07mess. Believe me. Well, first of all, what he
- 46:11just said about the State Department is not only
- 46:13untrue, it's been debunked numerous times. But
- 46:16I think it's really an important issue. He raised
- 46:20the 30 years of experience. So let me just talk
- 46:22briefly about that. You know, back in the 1970s,
- 46:26I worked for the Children's Defense Fund, and
- 46:28I was taking on discrimination against African
- 46:31-American kids in schools. he was getting sued
- 46:34by the justice department for racial discrimination
- 46:36in his apartment buildings in the 1980s i was
- 46:40working to reform the schools in arkansas he
- 46:43was borrowing 14 million dollars from his father
- 46:46to start his businesses in the 1990s i went to
- 46:49beijing and i said women's rights are human rights
- 46:51he insulted a former miss universe alicia machado
- 46:55called her an eating machine and on the day when
- 46:58i was in the situation room monitoring the raid
- 47:02that brought Osama bin Laden to justice. He was
- 47:05hosting the celebrity apprentice. So I'm happy
- 47:08to compare my 30 years of experience, what I've
- 47:11done for this country, trying to help in every
- 47:14way I could, especially kids and families get
- 47:16ahead and stay ahead with your 30 years. And
- 47:19I'll let the American people make that decision.
- 47:22Well, I think I did a much better job. I built
- 47:24a massive company, a great company, some of the
- 47:26greatest assets anywhere in the world. worth
- 47:29many, many billions of dollars. I started with
- 47:32a $1 million loan. I agree with that. It's a
- 47:34$1 million loan, but I built a phenomenal company.
- 47:38And if we could run our country the way I've
- 47:41run my company, we would have a country that
- 47:44you would be so proud of. You would even be proud
- 47:46of it. And frankly, when you look at her real
- 47:50record, take a look at Syria, take a look at
- 47:53the migration, take a look at Libya, take a look
- 47:56at Iraq. She gave us ISIS because her and Obama
- 47:59created this huge vacuum. And a small group came
- 48:02out of that huge vacuum because we should have
- 48:05never been in Iraq. But once we were there, we
- 48:08should have never got out the way they wanted
- 48:09to get out. She gave us ISIS as sure as you are
- 48:12sitting there. And what happened is now ISIS
- 48:15is in 32 countries. And now I listen how she's
- 48:18going to get rid of ISIS. She's going to get
- 48:21rid of nobody. All right. We are going to get
- 48:23to foreign hot spots. in a few moments, but the
- 48:27next segment is fitness to be president of the
- 48:30United States. Mr. Trump, at the last debate,
- 48:32you said your talk about grabbing women was just
- 48:37that, talk, and that you'd never actually done
- 48:40it. And since then, as we all know, nine women
- 48:43have come forward and said that you either groped
- 48:46them or kissed them without their consent. Why
- 48:52would so many different women from so many different
- 48:54circumstances over so many different years, why
- 48:57would they all in this last couple of weeks make
- 49:00up? You denied us. Why would they all make up
- 49:02these stories? And since this is a question for
- 49:04both of you, Secretary Clinton, Mr. Trump says
- 49:08what your husband did and that you defended was
- 49:12even worse. Mr. Trump, you go first. Well, first
- 49:15of all, those stories have been largely debunked.
- 49:18Those people, I don't know those people. I have
- 49:20a feeling how they came. I believe it was her
- 49:22campaign that did it. Just like if you look at
- 49:25what came out today on the clips, where I was
- 49:29wondering what happened with my rally in Chicago
- 49:31and other rallies where we had such violence.
- 49:34She's the one in Obama that caused the violence.
- 49:37They hired people, they paid them $1 ,500, and
- 49:41they're on tape saying, be violent, cause fights.
- 49:44do bad things i would say the only way because
- 49:47those stories are all totally false i have to
- 49:49say that and i didn't even apologize to my wife
- 49:52who's sitting right here because i didn't do
- 49:54anything i didn't know any of these women i didn't
- 49:57see these women these women the woman on the
- 50:00plane the woman i think they want either fame
- 50:03or her campaign did it and i think it's her campaign
- 50:06because what i saw what they did which is a criminal
- 50:10act by the way where they're telling people to
- 50:13go out and start fist fights and start violence
- 50:15and i'll tell you what in particular in chicago
- 50:18people were hurt and people could have been killed
- 50:21in that riot and that was now all on tape started
- 50:24by her i believe chris that she got these people
- 50:29to step forward if it wasn't they get their 10
- 50:32minutes of fame but they were all totally it
- 50:35was all fiction it was lies and it was fiction
- 50:38well secretary clinton at the last debate we
- 50:42heard Donald talking about what he did to women.
- 50:47And after that, a number of women have come forward
- 50:51saying that's exactly what he did to them. Now,
- 50:55what was his response? Well, he held a number
- 50:57of big rallies where he said that he could not
- 51:01possibly have done those things to those women
- 51:05because they were not attractive enough for I
- 51:08did not say that. I did not say that. In fact,
- 51:11he went on to say... Her two minutes, sir, her
- 51:14two minutes. But did not say that. It's her two
- 51:16minutes. He went on to say, look at her. I don't
- 51:21think so. About another woman, he said, that
- 51:25wouldn't be my first choice. He attacked the
- 51:28woman reporter writing the story, called her
- 51:31disgusting, as he has called a number of women
- 51:34during this campaign. Donald thinks belittling
- 51:38women makes him bigger. He goes after their dignity,
- 51:42their self -worth, and I don't think there is
- 51:46a woman anywhere who doesn't know what that feels
- 51:48like. So we now know what Donald thinks and what
- 51:53he says and how he acts toward women. That's
- 51:56who Donald is. I think it's really up to all
- 52:00of us to demonstrate who we are and who our country
- 52:04is. and to stand up and be very clear about what
- 52:09we expect from our next president, how we want
- 52:13to bring our country together, where we don't
- 52:16want to have the kind of pitting of people one
- 52:21against the other, where instead we celebrate
- 52:23our diversity, we lift people up, and we make
- 52:28our country even greater. America is great because
- 52:32America is good. And it really is up to all of
- 52:36us to make that true now and in the future, and
- 52:40particularly for our children and our grandchildren.
- 52:43Mr. Trump. Nobody has more respect for women
- 52:46than I do. Nobody. Nobody has more respect. Please,
- 52:49everybody. And frankly, those stories have been
- 52:54largely debunked. And I really want to just talk
- 52:58about something slightly different. She mentions
- 53:01this. which is all fiction, all fictionalized,
- 53:05probably or possibly started by her and her very
- 53:09sleazy campaign. But I will tell you, what isn't
- 53:13fictionalized are her emails, where she destroyed
- 53:1633 ,000 emails criminally, criminally, after
- 53:20getting a subpoena from the United States Congress.
- 53:23What happened to the FBI? I don't know. We have
- 53:26a great general, four -star general, today. You
- 53:30read it in all the papers. going to potentially
- 53:32serve five years in jail for lying to the fbi
- 53:37one lie she's lied hundreds of times to the people
- 53:42to congress and to the to the fbi he's going
- 53:46to probably go to jail this is a four star general
- 53:51and she gets away with it and she can run for
- 53:54the presidency of the united states That's really
- 53:57what you should be talking about, not fiction
- 54:00where somebody wants fame or where they come
- 54:02out of her crooked campaign. Secretary Clinton.
- 54:05Well, every time Donald is pushed on something,
- 54:10which is obviously uncomfortable, like what these
- 54:15women are saying, he immediately goes to denying
- 54:20responsibility. And it's not just about women.
- 54:24He never. apologizes or says he's sorry for anything
- 54:28so we know what he has said and what he's done
- 54:31to women but he also went after a disabled reporter
- 54:35mocked and mimicked him on national television
- 54:38he went after mr and mrs khan the parents of
- 54:43a young man who died serving our country a gold
- 54:47star family because of their religion he went
- 54:50after john mccain a prisoner of war said he prefers
- 54:54people who aren't captured. He went after a federal
- 54:59judge born in Indiana, but who Donald said couldn't
- 55:04be trusted to try the fraud and racketeering
- 55:06case against Trump University because his parents
- 55:09were Mexican. So it's not one thing. This is
- 55:12a pattern. pattern of divisiveness of a very
- 55:16dark and in many ways dangerous vision of our
- 55:20country where he incites violence where he applauds
- 55:24people who are pushing and pulling and punching
- 55:27at his rallies that is not who America is and
- 55:31I hope that as we move in the last weeks of this
- 55:35campaign more and more people will understand
- 55:39what's at stake in this election it really does
- 55:42come down to what kind of country we are going
- 55:44to have so sad when she talks about violence
- 55:47at my rallies and she caused the violence it's
- 55:50on tape during the last the other things are
- 55:53false but honestly i'd love to talk about getting
- 55:56rid of isis and i'd love to talk about other
- 55:58things okay but those other charges as she knows
- 56:00they're in this in this bucket about fitness
- 56:03to be president there's been a lot of developments
- 56:06over the last 10 days since the last debate.
- 56:09I'd like to ask you about them. These are questions
- 56:11that the American people have. Secretary Clinton,
- 56:13during your 2009 Senate confirmation hearing,
- 56:16you promised to avoid even the appearance of
- 56:19a conflict of interest with your dealing with
- 56:22the Clinton Foundation while you were Secretary
- 56:24of State. But emails show that donors got special
- 56:27access to you. Those seeking grants for Haiti
- 56:31relief were... considered separately from non
- 56:35-donors and some of those donors got contract
- 56:38government contracts taxpayer money can you really
- 56:41say that you kept your pledge to that senate
- 56:43committee and why isn't what happened and what
- 56:46went on between you and the clinton foundation
- 56:49why isn't it what mr trump calls pay to play
- 56:52well everything i did as secretary of state was
- 56:55in furtherance of uh Our country's interests
- 56:59and our values the State Department has said
- 57:01that I think that's been proven, but I am happy
- 57:04in fact I'm thrilled to talk about the Clinton
- 57:06Foundation because it is a world -renowned charity
- 57:09And I am so proud of the work that it does you
- 57:12know I could talk for the rest of the debate
- 57:14I know I don't have the time to do that, but
- 57:17just briefly The Clinton Foundation made it possible
- 57:20for 11 million people around the world with HIV
- 57:24AIDS to afford treatment. And that's about half
- 57:27of all the people in the world who are getting
- 57:29treatment. In partnership with the American Health
- 57:32Association, we have made environments in schools
- 57:35healthier for kids, including healthier punches.
- 57:38Secretary Clinton, respectfully, this is an open
- 57:40discussion. Well, it is an open discussion. I
- 57:42understand. And the specific question went to
- 57:43pay for play. Do you want to talk about that?
- 57:45Well, but there is no evidence, but there is
- 57:47a lot of evidence about the very good work and
- 57:51the high ranking that the total people know.
- 57:54It's a criminal enterprise. Saudi Arabia giving
- 57:58$25 million, Qatar, all of these countries. You
- 58:02talk about women and women's rights? So these
- 58:05are people that push gays off business, off buildings.
- 58:08These are people that kill women and treat women
- 58:12horribly, and yet you take their money. So I'd
- 58:15like to ask you right now, why don't you give
- 58:17back the money that you've taken from certain
- 58:20countries that treat certain groups of people?
- 58:24So horribly. Why don't you give back the money?
- 58:26I think it would be a great gesture. Well, because
- 58:28she takes a tremendous amount of money. And you
- 58:31take a look at the people of Haiti. I was at
- 58:33a little Haiti the other day in Florida. And
- 58:36I want to tell you, they hate the Clintons because
- 58:39what's happened in Haiti with the Clinton Foundation
- 58:42is a disgrace. And you know it and they know
- 58:46it. And everybody knows Secretary Clinton very
- 58:48quickly. We at the Clinton Foundation spend 90
- 58:51percent, 90 percent. of all the money that is
- 58:55donated on behalf of programs of people around
- 58:58the world and in our own country. I'm very proud
- 59:01of that. We have the highest rating from the
- 59:03watchdogs that follow foundations. And I'd be
- 59:07happy to compare what we do with the Trump Foundation,
- 59:09which took money from other people and bought
- 59:11a six -foot portrait of Donald. I mean, who does
- 59:14that? It just was astonishing. But when it comes
- 59:18to Haiti, Haiti is the poorest country in our
- 59:20hemisphere. the earthquake and the hurricanes.
- 59:23It has devastated Haiti. Bill and I have been
- 59:26involved in trying to help Haiti for many years.
- 59:29The Clinton Foundation raised $30 million to
- 59:32help Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake
- 59:35and all of the terrible problems the people there
- 59:38had. We've done things to help small businesses,
- 59:42agriculture, and so much else. And we're going
- 59:44to keep working to help Haiti because it's an
- 59:47important part of the American experience. They
- 59:49don't want you to help them anymore. I'd like
- 59:52to mention one thing. Trump Foundation, small
- 59:54foundation, people contribute, I contribute.
- 59:58The money goes 100%. 100 % goes to different
- 1:00:00charities, including a lot of military. I don't
- 1:00:03get anything. I don't buy boats. I don't buy
- 1:00:05planes. What happens? Wasn't some of the money
- 1:00:08used to settle your lawsuit, sir? No, it was
- 1:00:11we put up the American flag and that's it. They
- 1:00:14put up the American flag. We fought for the right
- 1:00:16in Palm Beach to put up the American flag. There
- 1:00:18was a penalty that was imposed by Palm Beach
- 1:00:21County. There was. And the money came from your
- 1:00:23foundation. And by the way, the money went to
- 1:00:26Fisher House where they build houses. The money
- 1:00:30that you're talking about. went to fisher house
- 1:00:32where they build houses for veterans and disabled
- 1:00:35i want to get into one of course there's no way
- 1:00:37we can know whether any of that is true because
- 1:00:38he hasn't released his tax returns he is the
- 1:00:40first candidate ever to run for president in
- 1:00:43the last 40 plus years who has not released his
- 1:00:46tax returns so everything he says about charity
- 1:00:49or anything else we can't prove it you can look
- 1:00:53at our tax returns we've got them all out there
- 1:00:55but what is really troubling uh is that we learned
- 1:00:59in the last debate he has not paid a penny in
- 1:01:02federal income tax and we were talking about
- 1:01:05immigrants a few minutes ago chris you know half
- 1:01:08of all immigrants undocumented immigrants in
- 1:01:11our country actually pay federal income tax so
- 1:01:14We have undocumented immigrants in America who
- 1:01:17are paying more federal income tax than a billionaire.
- 1:01:20I find that just astonishing. So let me just
- 1:01:21tell you very simply, we're entitled, because
- 1:01:23of the laws that people like her pass, to take
- 1:01:26massive amounts of depreciation and other charges,
- 1:01:28and we do it. And all of her donors, just about
- 1:01:31all of them, I know Buffett took hundreds of
- 1:01:33millions of dollars, Soros, George Soros. took
- 1:01:37hundreds of millions of dollars. Let me just
- 1:01:38explain. All of her donors, most of her donors,
- 1:01:41have done the same thing as I do. And you know
- 1:01:43what you should have done? And you know, Hillary,
- 1:01:45what you should have done? You should have changed
- 1:01:47the law when you were a United States senator.
- 1:01:50Because your donors and your special interests
- 1:01:53are doing the same thing as I do, except even
- 1:01:56more so. You should have changed the law, but
- 1:01:58you won't change the law because you're taking
- 1:02:00so much money. I mean, I sat in my apartment
- 1:02:03today. on a very beautiful hotel down the street
- 1:02:07known as Made with Chinese Steel. But I will
- 1:02:09tell you, I sat there. I sat there watching ad
- 1:02:13after ad after ad, false ad, all paid for by
- 1:02:17your friends on Wall Street that gave so much
- 1:02:19money because they know you're going to protect
- 1:02:22them. And frankly, you should have changed the
- 1:02:25laws. If you don't like what I did, you should
- 1:02:27have changed the laws. Mr. Trump, I want to ask
- 1:02:29you about one last question in this topic. You
- 1:02:32have been warning at re... rallies recently that
- 1:02:36this election is rigged and that Hillary Clinton
- 1:02:40is in the process of trying to steal it from
- 1:02:43you. Your running mate, Governor Pence, pledged
- 1:02:47on Sunday that he and you, his words, will absolutely
- 1:02:51accept the result of this election. Today, your
- 1:02:54daughter Ivanka said the same thing. I want to
- 1:02:57ask you here on this stage tonight, do you make
- 1:03:00the same commitment that you will absolutely,
- 1:03:02sir? that you will absolutely accept the result
- 1:03:05of this election? I will look at it at the time.
- 1:03:07I'm not looking at anything now. I'll look at
- 1:03:09it at the time. What I've seen, what I've seen
- 1:03:12is so bad. First of all, the media is so dishonest
- 1:03:16and so corrupt, and the pylon is so amazing.
- 1:03:19The New York Times actually wrote an article
- 1:03:21about it that they don't even care. It's so dishonest,
- 1:03:24and they've poisoned the minds of the voters.
- 1:03:27But unfortunately for them... I think the voters
- 1:03:30are seeing through it. I think they're going
- 1:03:31to see through it. We'll find out on November
- 1:03:338th, but I think they're going to see through
- 1:03:34it. Excuse me, Chris. If you look at your voter
- 1:03:38rolls, you will see millions of people that are
- 1:03:42registered to vote. Millions. This isn't coming
- 1:03:44from me. This is coming from Pew Report and other
- 1:03:46places. Millions of people that are registered
- 1:03:49to vote that shouldn't be registered to vote.
- 1:03:54Let me just give you one other thing. So I talk
- 1:03:56about the corrupt media. I talk about the millions
- 1:03:58of people. Tell you one other thing. She shouldn't
- 1:04:01be allowed to run. She's guilty of a very, very
- 1:04:05serious crime. She should not be allowed to run.
- 1:04:10And just in that respect, I say it's rigged.
- 1:04:14Because she should never have been allowed. to
- 1:04:18run for the presidency based on what she did
- 1:04:21with emails and so many other things. But, sir,
- 1:04:24there is a tradition in this country. In fact,
- 1:04:26one of the prides of this country is the peaceful
- 1:04:28transition of power and that no matter how hard
- 1:04:31fought a campaign is, that at the end of the
- 1:04:34campaign, that the loser concedes to the winner,
- 1:04:38not saying that you're necessarily going to be
- 1:04:40the loser or the winner, but that the loser concedes
- 1:04:42to the winner and that the country comes together
- 1:04:45in part for the good of the country. prepared
- 1:04:48now to what i'm saying is that i will tell you
- 1:04:51at the time i'll keep you in suspense well chris
- 1:04:54let me respond to that because that's horrifying
- 1:04:56you know every time donald thinks things are
- 1:05:00not going in his direction he claims whatever
- 1:05:03it is is rigged against him the fbi conducted
- 1:05:06a year -long investigation into my emails they
- 1:05:09concluded there was no case he said the fbi was
- 1:05:12rigged he lost the iowa caucus he lost the wisconsin
- 1:05:15primary He said the Republican primary was rigged
- 1:05:19against him. Then Trump University gets sued
- 1:05:22for fraud and racketeering. He claims the court
- 1:05:25system and the federal judge is rigged against
- 1:05:27him. There was even a time when he didn't get
- 1:05:31an Emmy for his TV program three years in a row,
- 1:05:34and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged
- 1:05:37against him. Should have gotten it. This is a
- 1:05:39mindset. This is how Donald thinks. And it's
- 1:05:43funny, but it's also really troubling. That is
- 1:05:47not the way our democracy works. We've been around
- 1:05:50for 240 years. We've had free and fair elections.
- 1:05:54We've accepted the outcomes when we may not have
- 1:05:57liked them. And that is what must be expected
- 1:06:00of anyone standing on a debate stage during a
- 1:06:03general election. You know, President Obama said
- 1:06:06the other day, when you're whining before the
- 1:06:09game is even finished, it just shows. you you're
- 1:06:12not up to doing the job and let's you know let's
- 1:06:15be clear about what he is saying and what that
- 1:06:17means he is denigrating he's talking down our
- 1:06:21democracy and i for one am appalled that somebody
- 1:06:25who is the nominee of one of our two major parties
- 1:06:28would take that kind of position i think what
- 1:06:31the fbi did and what the department of justice
- 1:06:33did including meeting with her husband the attorney
- 1:06:37general in the back of an airplane on the tarmac
- 1:06:40in arizona I think it's disgraceful. I think
- 1:06:44it's a disgrace. I think we've never had a situation
- 1:06:46so bad. Hold on, folks. This doesn't do any good
- 1:06:50for anyone. Let's please continue the debate,
- 1:06:52and let's move on to the subject of foreign hotspots.
- 1:06:55The Iraqi offensive to take back Mosul has begun.
- 1:07:00If they are successful in pushing ISIS out of
- 1:07:04that city and out of all of Iraq, the question
- 1:07:06then becomes... What happens the day after? And
- 1:07:10that's something that whichever of you ends up,
- 1:07:12whoever of you ends up as president is going
- 1:07:14to have to confront. Will you put U .S. troops
- 1:07:18into that vacuum to make sure that ISIS doesn't
- 1:07:21come back or isn't replaced by something even
- 1:07:24worse? Secretary Clinton, you go first in this
- 1:07:26segment. You have two minutes. Well, I am encouraged
- 1:07:30that there is an effort led by the Iraqi army.
- 1:07:35supported by Kurdish forces and also given the
- 1:07:40help and advice from the number of special forces
- 1:07:44and other Americans on the ground, but I will
- 1:07:46not support putting American soldiers into Iraq
- 1:07:50as an occupying force. I don't think that is
- 1:07:53in our interests and I don't think that would
- 1:07:55be smart to do. In fact, Chris, I think that
- 1:07:58would be a big red flag waving for ISIS to reconstitute
- 1:08:02itself. The goal here is to take back Mosul.
- 1:08:06It's going to be a hard fight. I've got no illusions
- 1:08:09about that. And then continue to press into Syria
- 1:08:13to begin to take back and move on Raqqa, which
- 1:08:16is the ISIS headquarters. I am hopeful that the
- 1:08:20hard work that American military advisers have
- 1:08:23done will pay off and that we will see a really
- 1:08:28successful military operation. But we know we've
- 1:08:32got lots of work to do. Syria will remain a hotbed
- 1:08:35of terrorism as long as the civil war aided and
- 1:08:39abetted by the Iranians and the Russians continue.
- 1:08:42So I have said, look, we need to keep our eye
- 1:08:44on ISIS. That's why I want to have an intelligence
- 1:08:47surge that protects us here at home, why we have
- 1:08:50to go after them from the air, on the ground,
- 1:08:53online. why we have to make sure here at home
- 1:08:55we don't let terrorists buy weapons. If you're
- 1:08:57too dangerous to fly, you're too dangerous to
- 1:09:00buy a gun. And I'm going to continue to push
- 1:09:04for a no -fly zone and safe havens within Syria,
- 1:09:08not only to help protect the Syrians and prevent
- 1:09:10the constant outflow of refugees, but to frankly
- 1:09:14gain some leverage on both the Syrian government
- 1:09:16and the Russians so that perhaps we can have...
- 1:09:19the kind of serious negotiation necessary to
- 1:09:23bring the conflict to an end and go forward on
- 1:09:25a political track. Mr. Trump, second question.
- 1:09:29If we are able to push ISIS out of Mosul and
- 1:09:32out of Iraq, would you be willing to put U .S.
- 1:09:36troops in there to prevent their return or something
- 1:09:39else? Let me tell you, Mosul's so sad. We had
- 1:09:43Mosul. But when she left, when she took everybody
- 1:09:46out... We lost Mosul. Now we're fighting again
- 1:09:48to get Mosul. The problem with Mosul and what
- 1:09:52they wanted to do is they wanted to get the leaders
- 1:09:54of ISIS who they felt were in Mosul. About three
- 1:09:58months ago, I started reading that they want
- 1:10:01to get the leaders, and they're going to attack
- 1:10:03Mosul. Whatever happened to the element of surprise,
- 1:10:07okay? We announced we're going after Mosul. I've
- 1:10:10been reading about going after Mosul now for
- 1:10:12about, how long is it, Hillary, three months?
- 1:10:14These people have all left. They've all left.
- 1:10:17The element of surprise. Douglas MacArthur, George
- 1:10:21Patton, spinning in their graves when they see
- 1:10:25the stupidity of our country. So we're now fighting
- 1:10:28for Mosul that we had. All she had to do is stay
- 1:10:31there. Now we're going in to get it. But you
- 1:10:34know who the big winner in Mosul is going to
- 1:10:35be after we eventually get it? And the only reason
- 1:10:37they did it is because she's running for the
- 1:10:40office of president. And they want to look tough.
- 1:10:43They want to look good. He violated the red line
- 1:10:46in the sand. And he made so many mistakes, made
- 1:10:49all mistakes. That's why we have the great migration.
- 1:10:52But she wanted to look good for the election.
- 1:10:54So they're going in. But who's going to get Mosul,
- 1:10:57really? We'll take Mosul eventually. By the way,
- 1:10:59if you look at what's happening, much tougher
- 1:11:01than they thought, much, much tougher, much more
- 1:11:04dangerous, going to be more deaths than they
- 1:11:05thought. But the leaders that we wanted to get
- 1:11:07are all gone because they're smart. They say,
- 1:11:10what do we need this for? So Mosul is going to
- 1:11:13be. A wonderful thing, and Iran should write
- 1:11:16us a letter of thank you, just like the really
- 1:11:19stupid, the stupidest deal of all time, a deal
- 1:11:22that's going to give Iran absolutely nuclear
- 1:11:25weapons. Iran should write us yet another letter
- 1:11:29saying thank you very much, because Iran, as
- 1:11:32I said many years ago, Iran is taking over Iraq,
- 1:11:35something they've wanted to do forever, but we've
- 1:11:37made it so easy for them. So we're now going
- 1:11:39to take Mosul, and you know who's going to be
- 1:11:42the beneficiary? Iran. boy are they making i
- 1:11:45mean they are outsmarting look you're not there
- 1:11:48you might be involved in that decision but you
- 1:11:51were there when you took everybody out of mosul
- 1:11:53and out of iraq you shouldn't have been in iraq
- 1:11:56but you did vote for it you shouldn't have been
- 1:11:58in iraq but once you were in iraq you should
- 1:12:01have never left the way the point is is going
- 1:12:04to be iran well you know once again uh donald
- 1:12:10is implying that he didn't support the invasion
- 1:12:12of Iraq. I said it was a mistake. I said that
- 1:12:14years ago. He has consistently denied what is
- 1:12:18a very clear fact that before the invasion, he
- 1:12:22supported it. And, you know, I just want everybody
- 1:12:24to go Google it. Google Donald Trump Iraq, and
- 1:12:28you will see the dozens of sources which verify
- 1:12:31that he was for the invasion of Iraq. And you
- 1:12:34can actually hear the audio of him saying that.
- 1:12:37Now, why does that matter? Well, it matters because
- 1:12:40he has not told the truth about that position.
- 1:12:44I guess he believes it makes him look better
- 1:12:46now, to contrast with me, because I did vote
- 1:12:49for it. But what's really important here is to
- 1:12:53understand all the interplay. Mosul is a Sunni
- 1:12:57city. Mosul is on the border of Syria. And yes,
- 1:13:01we do need to go after Baghdadi, just like we
- 1:13:05went after bin Laden. while you were doing Celebrity
- 1:13:08Apprentice, and we brought him to justice. We
- 1:13:11need to go after the leadership, but we need
- 1:13:14to get rid of them, get rid of their fighters,
- 1:13:16their estimated several thousand fighters in
- 1:13:19Mosul. They've been digging underground. They've
- 1:13:21been prepared to defend. It's going to be tough
- 1:13:23fighting, but I think we can take back Mosul,
- 1:13:26and then we can move on into Syria and take back
- 1:13:28Raqqa. This is what we have to do. I'm just amazed
- 1:13:33that he seems to think that the Iraqi government
- 1:13:36and our allies and everybody else launched the
- 1:13:39attack on Mosul to help me in this election.
- 1:13:42how Donald thinks, you know? He always is looking
- 1:13:45for some conspiracy. Chris, we don't gain anything.
- 1:13:47Iran is taking over Iraq. Iran is taking over
- 1:13:52Iraq. We don't gain anything. We would have gained
- 1:13:55if they did it by surprise. Wait, wait, wait.
- 1:13:57Secretary Clinton, it's an open discussion. We
- 1:14:00would have gained if they did it by surprise.
- 1:14:02He's unfit, and he proves it every time he talks.
- 1:14:06You are the one that's unfit. You know, WikiLeaks
- 1:14:08just actually came out. John Podesta. said some
- 1:14:11horrible things about you. And boy, was he right.
- 1:14:15He said some beauties. And you know, Bernie Sanders,
- 1:14:18he said you have bad judgment. You do. And if
- 1:14:20you think that going into Mosul, after we let
- 1:14:24the world know we're going in, and all of the
- 1:14:26people that we really wanted, the leaders, they're
- 1:14:29all gone. If you think that was good, then you
- 1:14:32do. Now, John Podesta said you have terrible
- 1:14:34instincts. Bernie Sanders said you have bad judgment.
- 1:14:38I agree with both. Well, you should ask Bernie
- 1:14:40Sanders who he's supporting for president. And
- 1:14:43he has said, as he has campaigned for me around
- 1:14:46the country, you are the most dangerous person
- 1:14:48to run for president in the modern history of
- 1:14:51America. I think he's right. Let's turn to Aleppo.
- 1:14:57Mr. Trump, in the last debate, you were both
- 1:15:00asked about the situation in the Syrian city
- 1:15:04of Aleppo. And I want to follow up on that because
- 1:15:06you said, Several things in that debate which
- 1:15:10were not true, sir. You said that Aleppo has
- 1:15:13basically fallen. In fact, there are... It's
- 1:15:17a catastrophe. It is a catastrophe. Have you
- 1:15:21seen it? Have you seen it? Have you seen what's
- 1:15:24happened to Aleppo? If I may finish my question.
- 1:15:27Okay, so it hasn't fallen. Take a look at it.
- 1:15:28Well, there are a quarter of a million people
- 1:15:30still living there and being slaughtered. That's
- 1:15:32right. And they are being slaughtered because
- 1:15:34of bad decisions. If I may just finish here.
- 1:15:37And you also said that Syria and Russia are busy
- 1:15:42fighting ISIS. In fact, they have been the ones
- 1:15:46who've been bombing and shelling eastern Aleppo.
- 1:15:49And they just announced a humanitarian pause,
- 1:15:52in effect, admitting that they have been bombing
- 1:15:54and shelling Aleppo. Would you like to clear
- 1:15:55that up? Well, Aleppo is a disaster. It's a humanitarian
- 1:15:59nightmare. But it has fallen from any standpoint.
- 1:16:04I mean, what do you need, a signed document?
- 1:16:05Take a look at Aleppo. It is so sad when you
- 1:16:08see what's happened. And a lot of this is because
- 1:16:11of Hillary Clinton. Because what's happened is
- 1:16:14by fighting Assad, who turned out to be a lot
- 1:16:17tougher than she thought, and now she's going
- 1:16:20to say, oh, he loves Assad. He's just much tougher
- 1:16:24and much smarter than her and Obama. And everyone
- 1:16:27thought he was gone two years ago, three years
- 1:16:29ago. He aligned with Russia. He now also aligned
- 1:16:33with Iran, who we made very powerful. We gave
- 1:16:37them $150 billion back. We gave them $1 .7 billion
- 1:16:42in cash. I mean cash, bundles of cash as big
- 1:16:45as this stage. We gave them $1 .7 billion. Now,
- 1:16:50they have aligned. He has aligned with Russia
- 1:16:53and with Iran. They don't want ISIS, but they
- 1:16:57have other things because we're backing. We're
- 1:17:00backing rebels. We don't know who the rebels
- 1:17:02are. We're giving them lots of money, lots of
- 1:17:06everything. We don't know who the rebels are.
- 1:17:09And when and if, and it's not going to happen
- 1:17:11because you have Russia and you have Iran now,
- 1:17:13but if they ever did overthrow Assad, you might
- 1:17:16end up with as bad as Assad is. And he's a bad
- 1:17:18guy. But you may very well end up with worse
- 1:17:21than Assad. If she did nothing. We'd be in much
- 1:17:26better shape. And this is what's caused the great
- 1:17:29migration, where she's taken in tens of thousands
- 1:17:33of Syrian refugees who probably, in many cases,
- 1:17:37not probably, who are definitely, in many cases,
- 1:17:40ISIS -aligned. And we now have them in our country.
- 1:17:44And wait till you see. This is going to be the
- 1:17:46great Trojan horse. And wait till you see what
- 1:17:49happens in the coming years. Lots of luck, Hillary.
- 1:17:52Thanks a lot for doing a great job. Secretary
- 1:17:54Clinton, you have talked about, and in the last
- 1:17:57debate and again today, that you would impose
- 1:17:59a no -fly zone to try to protect the people of
- 1:18:03Aleppo and to stop the killing there. President
- 1:18:05Obama has refused to do that because he fears
- 1:18:07it's going to draw us closer or deeper into the
- 1:18:10conflict. And General Joseph Dunford, the chairman
- 1:18:13of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, says you impose
- 1:18:15a no -fly zone, chances are you're going to get
- 1:18:18into a war, his words, with Syria and Russia.
- 1:18:22So the question I have is, if you impose a no
- 1:18:25-fly zone, first of all, how do you respond to
- 1:18:26their concerns? Secondly, if you impose a no
- 1:18:29-fly zone and a Russian plane violates that,
- 1:18:32does President Clinton shoot that plane down?
- 1:18:34Well, Chris, first of all, I think a no -fly
- 1:18:37zone could save lives and could hasten the end
- 1:18:40of the conflict. I am well aware of the really
- 1:18:43legitimate concerns that you have expressed from
- 1:18:45both the president and the general. This would
- 1:18:48not be done just... on the first day. This would
- 1:18:51take a lot of negotiation. It would also take
- 1:18:53making it clear to the Russians and the Syrians
- 1:18:55that our purpose here was to provide safe zones
- 1:18:59on the ground. We've had millions of people leave
- 1:19:02Syria and those millions of people inside Syria
- 1:19:07who've been dislocated. So I think we could strike
- 1:19:10a deal and make it very clear. to the Russians
- 1:19:13and the Syrians that this was something that
- 1:19:16we believe was in the best interests of the people
- 1:19:18on the ground in Syria. It would help us with
- 1:19:21our fight against ISIS. But I want to respond
- 1:19:23to what Donald said about refugees. He's made
- 1:19:26these claims repeatedly. I am not going to let
- 1:19:29anyone into this country who is not vetted, who
- 1:19:32we do not have. confidence in but i am not going
- 1:19:35to slam the door on women and children i that
- 1:19:38picture of that little four -year -old boy in
- 1:19:40aleppo with the blood coming down his face while
- 1:19:43he sat in an ambulance is haunting and so we
- 1:19:46are going to do very careful thorough vetting
- 1:19:49that does not solve our internal challenges with
- 1:19:53isis and our need to stop radicalization to work
- 1:19:56with american muslim communities who are on the
- 1:19:58front lines to identify and prevent attacks in
- 1:20:02fact The killer of the dozens of people at the
- 1:20:08nightclub in Orlando, the Pulse nightclub, was
- 1:20:11born in Queens, the same place Donald was born.
- 1:20:14So let's be clear about what the threat is and
- 1:20:18how we are best going to be able to meet it.
- 1:20:21And yes, some of that threat emanates from over
- 1:20:24in Syria and Iraq, and we've got to keep fighting,
- 1:20:27and I will defeat. isis and some of it is we
- 1:20:30have to up our game and be much smarter here
- 1:20:32i want to get into our final segment but i just
- 1:20:34have to it's so ridiculous what she will defeat
- 1:20:37isis we should have never let isis happen in
- 1:20:40the first place and right now they're in 32 countries
- 1:20:42wait one second they had a ceasefire three weeks
- 1:20:47ago a ceasefire united states russia syria and
- 1:20:51during the ceasefire russia took over vast swatches
- 1:20:54of land and then they said we don't want the
- 1:20:56ceasefire anymore We are so outplayed on missiles,
- 1:21:00on ceasefires. They are outplayed. Now, she wasn't
- 1:21:04there. I assume she had nothing to do with it.
- 1:21:06But our country is so outplayed by Putin and
- 1:21:10Assad and, by the way, and by Iran, nobody can
- 1:21:14believe how stupid our leadership is. Mr. Trump,
- 1:21:18Secretary Clinton, no, we need to move on to
- 1:21:20our final segment, and that is the national debt,
- 1:21:23which has not been discussed until tonight. Our
- 1:21:26national debt as a share of the economy, our
- 1:21:29GDP, is now 77%. That's the highest since just
- 1:21:34after World War II. But the nonpartisan Committee
- 1:21:37for a Responsible Federal Budget says, Secretary
- 1:21:39Clinton, under your plan, debt would rise to
- 1:21:4386 % of GDP over the next 10 years. Mr. Trump,
- 1:21:46under your plan, they say it would rise to 105
- 1:21:49% of GDP over the next 10 years. The question
- 1:21:54is... Why are both of you ignoring this problem?
- 1:21:57Mr. Trump, you go first. Well, I say they're
- 1:21:58wrong because I'm going to create tremendous
- 1:22:01jobs. And we're bringing GDP from really 1%,
- 1:22:04which is what it is now. And if she got in, it'll
- 1:22:06be less than zero. But we're bringing it from
- 1:22:101 % up to 4%. And I actually think we can go
- 1:22:13higher than 4%. I think you can go to 5 % or
- 1:22:166%. And if we do... You don't have to bother
- 1:22:20asking your question because we have a tremendous
- 1:22:22machine. We will have created a tremendous economic
- 1:22:26machine once again. To do that, we're taking
- 1:22:29back jobs. We're not going to let our companies
- 1:22:32be raided by other countries where we lose all
- 1:22:34our jobs. We don't make our product anymore.
- 1:22:37It's very sad. But I'm going to create the kind
- 1:22:41of a country that we were from the standpoint
- 1:22:44of industry. We used to be there. We've given
- 1:22:46it up. We've become... very, very sloppy. We've
- 1:22:51had people that are political hacks making the
- 1:22:54biggest deals in the world, bigger than companies.
- 1:22:56You take these big companies, these trade deals
- 1:22:58are far bigger than these companies. And yet
- 1:23:00we don't use our great leaders, many of whom
- 1:23:03back me and many of whom back Hillary, I must
- 1:23:05say. But we don't use those people. Those are
- 1:23:07the people, these are the greatest negotiators
- 1:23:10in the world. We have the greatest business people
- 1:23:11in the world. We have to use them to negotiate
- 1:23:14our trade deals. We use political hacks. We use
- 1:23:16people that get the position because they gave
- 1:23:19they made a campaign contribution and they're
- 1:23:22dealing with china and people that are very much
- 1:23:24smarter than they are so we have to use our great
- 1:23:27people but with that being said we will create
- 1:23:31an economic machine the likes of which we haven't
- 1:23:35seen in many decades and people chris will again
- 1:23:38go back to work and they'll make a lot of money
- 1:23:41and we'll have companies that will grow and expand
- 1:23:44and start from new secretary clint Well, first,
- 1:23:49when I hear Donald talk like that and know that
- 1:23:52his slogan is make America great again, I wonder
- 1:23:54when he thought America was great. And before
- 1:23:59he rushes and says, you know, before you and
- 1:24:02President Obama were there, I think it's important
- 1:24:05to recognize that he has been criticizing our
- 1:24:09government for decades. You know, back in 1987,
- 1:24:14He took out a $100 ,000 ad in the New York Times
- 1:24:18during the time when President Reagan was president
- 1:24:21and basically said exactly what he just said
- 1:24:25now, that we were the laughingstock of the world.
- 1:24:28He was criticizing President Reagan. This is
- 1:24:31the way Donald thinks about himself, puts himself
- 1:24:35into, you know, the middle and says, you know,
- 1:24:38I alone can fix it, as he said on the convention
- 1:24:40stage. But if you look at the debt, which is
- 1:24:44the issue you asked about, Chris, I pay for everything
- 1:24:48I'm proposing. I do not add a penny to the national
- 1:24:52debt. I take that very seriously because I do
- 1:24:55think it's one of the issues we've got to come
- 1:24:58to grips with. So when I talk about how we're
- 1:25:01going to pay for education, how we're going to
- 1:25:03invest in infrastructure, how we're going to
- 1:25:05get the cost of prescription drugs down, and
- 1:25:07a lot of the other issues that people talk to
- 1:25:09me about all the time, I've made it very clear.
- 1:25:12We are going where the money is. We are going
- 1:25:14to ask the wealthy and corporations to pay their
- 1:25:18fair share. And there is no evidence whatsoever
- 1:25:20that that will slow down or diminish our growth.
- 1:25:25In fact, I think just the opposite. We'll have
- 1:25:27what economists call middle -out growth. We've
- 1:25:30got to get back. to rebuilding the middle class
- 1:25:33the families of america that's where growth will
- 1:25:36come from that's why i want to invest in you
- 1:25:39i want to invest in your family and i think that's
- 1:25:42the smartest way to grow the economy to make
- 1:25:44the economy fairer and we just have a big disagreement
- 1:25:47about this it may be because of our experiences
- 1:25:49you know he started off with his dad as a millionaire
- 1:25:52i started off with my dad as a small businessman
- 1:25:55we've heard this before i think it's you know
- 1:25:57it's a difference that affects how we see the
- 1:25:59world and what we want to do with the economy
- 1:26:01time thank you hillary could i just respond well
- 1:26:04no well no because ronald reagan very strongly
- 1:26:07on trade i disagreed with him we should have
- 1:26:10been much tougher on trade even then i've been
- 1:26:12waiting for years nobody does it right and frankly
- 1:26:16now we're going to do it right all right i the
- 1:26:18one last area i want to get into with you in
- 1:26:20this debate is the fact that the biggest driver
- 1:26:22of our debt is entitlements which is 60 percent
- 1:26:27of all federal spending. Now, the Committee for
- 1:26:29Responsible Federal Budget has looked at both
- 1:26:32of your plans, and they say neither of you has
- 1:26:35a serious plan that is going to solve the fact
- 1:26:38that Medicare is going to run out of money in
- 1:26:40the 2020s, Social Security is going to run out
- 1:26:42of money in the 2030s, and at that time, recipients
- 1:26:46are going to take huge cuts on their benefits.
- 1:26:48So, in effect, the final question I want to ask
- 1:26:51you in this regard is, and let me start with
- 1:26:53you, Mr. Trump. Would President Trump make a
- 1:26:56deal to save Medicare and Social Security that
- 1:26:59included both tax increases and benefit cuts,
- 1:27:02in effect, a grand bargain on entitlements? I'm
- 1:27:05cutting taxes. We're going to grow the economy.
- 1:27:08It's going to grow at a record rate. But that's
- 1:27:09not going to help on entitlements. It's going
- 1:27:11to totally help you. And one thing we have to
- 1:27:13do, repeal and replace the disaster known as
- 1:27:17Obamacare. It's destroying our country. It's
- 1:27:20destroying our businesses, our small business
- 1:27:22and our big businesses. We have to repeal and
- 1:27:25replace Obamacare. You take a look at the kind
- 1:27:29of numbers that that will cost us in the year
- 1:27:3117. It is a disaster if we don't repeal and replace.
- 1:27:36Now, it's probably going to die of its own weight,
- 1:27:38but Obamacare has to go. The premiums are going
- 1:27:42up 60, 70, 80 percent. Next year, they're going
- 1:27:45to go up over 100 percent. and i'm really glad
- 1:27:49that the premiums have started at least the people
- 1:27:51see what's happening because she wants to keep
- 1:27:54obamacare and she wants to make it even worse
- 1:27:56and it can't get any worse bad health care at
- 1:28:00the most expensive price we have to repeal and
- 1:28:02replace obamacare and secretary clinton same
- 1:28:06question because at this point social security
- 1:28:08and medicare are going to run out the trust funds
- 1:28:11are going to run out of money will you as president
- 1:28:13entertain will you consider a grand bargain,
- 1:28:17a deal that includes both tax increases and benefit
- 1:28:21cuts to try to save both programs. Well, Chris,
- 1:28:24I am on record as saying that we need to put
- 1:28:27more money into the Social Security Trust Fund.
- 1:28:29That's part of my commitment to raise taxes on
- 1:28:33the wealthy. My Social Security payroll... contribution
- 1:28:37will go up, as will Donald's, assuming he can't
- 1:28:40figure out how to get out of it. But what we
- 1:28:42want to do is to replenish the Social Security
- 1:28:45Trust Fund by making sure that we have sufficient
- 1:28:49resources. And that will come from either raising
- 1:28:53the cap and or finding other ways to get more
- 1:28:55money into it. I will not cut benefits. I want
- 1:28:59to enhance benefits for low -income workers and
- 1:29:02for women who have been disadvantaged by the
- 1:29:05current Social Security system. But what Donald
- 1:29:08is proposing with these massive tax cuts will
- 1:29:11result in a $20 trillion additional national
- 1:29:15debt. That will have dire consequences for Social
- 1:29:19Security and Medicare. And I'll say something
- 1:29:21about the Affordable Care Act, which he wants
- 1:29:22to repeal. The Affordable Care Act extended the
- 1:29:26solvency of the Medicare trust fund. So if he
- 1:29:29repeals it, our Medicare problem gets worse.
- 1:29:31What we need to do is go after the long -term
- 1:29:34health care drivers. We've got to get costs down,
- 1:29:38increase value, emphasize wellness. I have a
- 1:29:41plan for doing that, and I think that we will
- 1:29:43be able to get entitlement spending. under control
- 1:29:46by with more resources and smarter decisions.
- 1:29:48This is the final time, probably to both of your
- 1:29:51delight, that you're going to be on stage together
- 1:29:53in this campaign. I would like to end it on a
- 1:29:56positive note. You had not agreed to closing
- 1:30:01statements, but it seems to me in a funny way
- 1:30:03that might make it more interesting because you
- 1:30:05haven't prepared closing statements. So I'd like
- 1:30:07you each to take it. We're going to put a clock
- 1:30:09up a minute as the final question and the final
- 1:30:12debate to tell the American people. why they
- 1:30:15should elect you to be the next president. This
- 1:30:18is another new mini segment. Secretary Clinton,
- 1:30:20it's your turn to go first. Well, I would like
- 1:30:23to say to everyone watching tonight that I'm
- 1:30:27reaching out to all Americans, Democrats, Republicans
- 1:30:29and independents, because we need everybody to
- 1:30:32help make our country what it should be, to grow
- 1:30:35the economy, to make it fairer, to make it work
- 1:30:38for everyone. We need your talents, your skills,
- 1:30:42your commitment, your energy, your ambition.
- 1:30:44You know, I've been privileged to see the presidency
- 1:30:47up close and I know the awesome responsibility
- 1:30:50of protecting our country and the incredible
- 1:30:52opportunity of working to try to make life better
- 1:30:55for all of you. I have made the cause of children
- 1:30:59and families really my life's work. That's what
- 1:31:03my mission will be in the presidency. I will
- 1:31:06stand up for families, against powerful interests,
- 1:31:09against corporations. I will do everything that
- 1:31:12I can to make sure that you have good jobs with
- 1:31:15rising incomes, that your kids have good educations
- 1:31:18from preschool through college. I hope you will
- 1:31:20give me a chance to serve as your president.
- 1:31:23Secretary Clinton, thank you. Mr. Trump? She's
- 1:31:26raising the money from the people she wants to
- 1:31:29control. It doesn't work that way. But when I
- 1:31:32started this campaign, I started it very strongly.
- 1:31:35It's called Make America Great Again. We're going
- 1:31:38to make America great. We have a depleted military.
- 1:31:40It has to be helped. It has to be fixed. We have
- 1:31:42the greatest people on earth in our military.
- 1:31:45We don't take care of our veterans. We take care
- 1:31:47of illegal immigrants, people that come into
- 1:31:49the country illegally, better than we take care
- 1:31:51of our vets. That can't happen. Our policemen
- 1:31:54and women are disrespected. We need law and order,
- 1:31:58but we need justice, too. Our inner cities are
- 1:32:01a disaster. You get shot walking to the store.
- 1:32:04They have no education. They have no jobs. I
- 1:32:06will do more for African -Americans and Latinos
- 1:32:08than she can ever do in 10 lifetimes. All she's
- 1:32:12done is talk to the African -Americans and to
- 1:32:15the Latinos. But they get the vote and then they
- 1:32:18come back. They say, we'll see you in four years.
- 1:32:20We are going to make America strong again and
- 1:32:22we are going to make America great again. And
- 1:32:25it has to start now. We cannot take. Four more
- 1:32:28years of Barack Obama, and that's what you get
- 1:32:31when you get her. Thank you both. Secretary Clinton,
- 1:32:36hold on just a moment, folks. Secretary Clinton,
- 1:32:39Mr. Trump, I want to thank you both for participating
- 1:32:41in all three of these debates. That brings to
- 1:32:44an end this year's debate sponsored by the Commission
- 1:32:46on Presidential Debates. We want to thank the
- 1:32:49University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and its students
- 1:32:51for having us. Now the decision is up to you.
- 1:32:55While millions have already voted, Election Day,
- 1:32:58November 8th, is just 20 days away. One thing
- 1:33:01everyone here can agree on, we hope you will
- 1:33:03go vote. It is one of the honors and obligations
- 1:33:06of living in this great country. Thank you, and
- 1:33:10good night.
