- 0:14Speaker 2: This is the Best of Stugatz & Company live on
- 0:17Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We are thrilled to have a distracted Adnan Virk with
- 0:23Speaker 1: us today because he's watching a Taylor Fritz match. John
- 0:30Speaker 1: Fanta is going to join us in hour number two.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Looking forward to that. The last time we spoke to Adnan. Now, Adnan,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I promised them that you and I would not spend
- 0:38Speaker 1: an hour and change here.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Talking tennis. I want to, I could, I.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Could have a 60 minute rally with you back and forth,
- 0:46Speaker 1: but I promised the guys here, I would not do
- 0:48Speaker 1: 60 minutes on tennis because the last time we spoke
- 0:50Speaker 1: to you, you were headed to Rhode Island for the
- 0:53Speaker 1: Roger Federer hall of fame induction. And you're wearing your
- 0:57Speaker 1: fed hat today. So I promised them, I don't know
- 0:59Speaker 1: what to do. You and I want to talk tennis
- 1:01Speaker 1: for an hour. And I had promised them that we
- 1:03Speaker 1: won't do that at that. It's that constant balance, Stu.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Our old boss, the great Scott Shapiro at ESPN would
- 1:09Speaker 4: tell me, you got to play the hitch. You know,
- 1:10Speaker 4: every hour, talk LeBron, talk NFL. I said, well, what
- 1:14Speaker 4: do I want to talk about? Like, I just want
- 1:16Speaker 4: to talk about Roger Federer. And as you had said
- 1:18Speaker 4: to me, as you predicted to me, if you meet Federer,
- 1:21Speaker 4: that 20 seconds is going to end up being 20
- 1:23Speaker 4: minutes of content. Yeah. It's one of those situations where
- 1:27Speaker 4: people have said to me, so what was it like?
- 1:28Speaker 4: And I go, listen, you're going to get one of
- 1:30Speaker 4: two versions, either the full version or no version. I
- 1:32Speaker 4: can't tell it to you in 30 seconds. Oh, is this? No, no.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I'm going to tell you every damn detail of meeting
- 1:38Speaker 4: Roger Federer, my lifelong hero and favorite athlete and favorite person,
- 1:41Speaker 4: aside from my wife and kids. So I hope at
- 1:44Speaker 4: some point we can dive in. Like I said, how
- 1:46Speaker 4: many of the people could just say they're locked into
- 1:47Speaker 4: Taylor Fritz right now? I mean, you're absolutely right. Sixth
- 1:49Speaker 4: level of emoji. You love second sense. It's going to
- 1:53Speaker 4: be an interesting balance today. Clippers, Rams, what the audience deserves,
- 1:57Speaker 4: and what you and I deserve, which is some hardcore
- 1:59Speaker 4: tennis talk.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Right, but if you hear gaps, it's us watching Taylor Fritz.
- 2:03Speaker 1: It's Fritz's fault.
- 2:03Speaker 4: What do you got, Taylor?
- 2:04Speaker 5: So I'm going to extend an olive branch since Adnan's
- 2:07Speaker 5: here today. Let's get some tennis talk in right now.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Really?
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Why?
- 2:13Speaker 5: I want to hear some tennis talk.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I know, but Scott Shapiro told us to play the hits,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and I promised Scott Shapiro we would do an hour
- 2:19Speaker 1: on tennis.
- 2:20Speaker 5: I'm going to be the judge of how long that
- 2:22Speaker 5: tennis talk goes, but I want to hear some tennis talk.
- 2:24Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:24Speaker 4: So how about this? Do you want because of the
- 2:27Speaker 4: Federer story? I'm not kidding. That's going to be 15 minutes. OK,
- 2:29Speaker 4: I'm assuming we're saving that for a cheat block. When
- 2:32Speaker 4: you say tennis talk, do you want me to start
- 2:34Speaker 4: the Federer conversation or do non Federer related time?
- 2:37Speaker 1: No, here I'll start the tennis talk and then Taylor
- 2:39Speaker 1: will do whatever it is he's planning on doing here.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But let's start the tennis talk here.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Were you thrilled as Novak Djokovic as a lover of
- 2:46Speaker 1: Roger Federer?
- 2:48Speaker 4: As Djokovic, why are there snores?
- 2:52Speaker 1: As Djokovic was throwing up all over the court and
- 2:55Speaker 1: losing to a guy who qualified to get into the.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Open, the snoring's annoying me.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Was Adnan happy because he doesn't want Djokovic to tack
- 3:04Speaker 1: on any more majors here?
- 3:06Speaker 4: Was I happy? The ultimate rhetorical question. I was delirious
- 3:08Speaker 4: with joy. And the only thing that would have made
- 3:11Speaker 4: me happier is to have actually stepped to watch the
- 3:13Speaker 4: entire match. When Novak won the third set, I say
- 3:17Speaker 4: he's up 2-1. It's 11 o'clock here on the East Coast.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I'm going to go ahead and go to bed. That
- 3:21Speaker 4: was met with the gleeful joy. I felt like a
- 3:23Speaker 4: child when I woke up at 4.50 to go to
- 3:25Speaker 4: the bathroom. I said, what? He lost in five seconds.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, yeah, this is so great. This is
- 3:31Speaker 4: going to be a great day. What a perfect cap
- 3:34Speaker 4: or two weekend. I get to meet Roger Federer, hashtag
- 3:37Speaker 4: Team Fed, and then Novak loses on a Sunday night.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Arguably the best 48 hours I've experienced in a long time.
- 3:43Speaker 4: And people say, oh, don't you have sympathy? Of course
- 3:45Speaker 4: I don't. If they're puking away, if you can't play,
- 3:48Speaker 4: then don't play. Just bow out. If you think you
- 3:50Speaker 4: can play, then credit to you. Battle it out. But
- 3:52Speaker 4: you lost, and you lost badly. Stewie lost 6-2, 6-1,
- 3:56Speaker 4: the fourth and final set. So what I say was illness. But,
- 4:00Speaker 4: I mean, the shot of him puking in slow motion,
- 4:02Speaker 4: I could have done without that. But macaron, the best
- 4:05Speaker 4: line afterwards, you know, this guy's enjoying his big moment.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And he says, see you on court 21 for your
- 4:10Speaker 4: next match. Just completely douses the guy's dreamlike moment as
- 4:13Speaker 4: he beats Djokovic. But for me, as you said, I
- 4:16Speaker 4: do not want to see that majors record.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Extended by Djokovic. I want him to lose, and I
- 4:20Speaker 1: want him to lose badly. I think an interesting guy
- 4:22Speaker 1: in this U.S. Open is Ben Shelton. He won in
- 4:24Speaker 1: four sets.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And time!
- 4:26Speaker 4: What? Oh, come on. We're going to do Shelton.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Come on.
- 4:28Speaker 3: We can't he's right time. He called it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And Scott Shapiro did train us to play the hits.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So let's play the hits. It's a think about it.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Thursday.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Give me the imaging.
- 4:40Speaker 5: You know, that segment talk about it.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Tuesday on Hockman Crowder and Solero.
- 4:45Speaker 2: This is like that, but bigger and better. And 48
- 4:50Speaker 2: hours later, this is think about it. Thursday.
- 4:56Speaker 4: It's a staple every Thursday. We're playing the hits.
- 4:58Speaker 1: It's Taylor's attempt to counter-program a local show down here
- 5:01Speaker 1: in Miami.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Weird.
- 5:04Speaker 3: We're a national show on Fox, but it is a.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Think About It Thursday, 877-99 on Fox, if you would
- 5:11Speaker 1: like to think with me and Adnet.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Go ahead, Taylor.
- 5:14Speaker 5: So I saw a video on Snapback Sports on social media.
- 5:17Speaker 5: A Cowboys fan was born in 2004, and he says
- 5:22Speaker 5: Emmitt Smith is his favorite Cowboy ever, even though Emmitt
- 5:25Speaker 5: Smith's last game in Dallas was in 2002. So that's
- 5:30Speaker 5: what I want to ask you guys. Can your favorite
- 5:32Speaker 5: player be someone who played before you were even born?
- 5:35Speaker 1: A lot of Jet fans will tell you that Joe
- 5:37Speaker 1: Namath is their favorite Jet player, whether they were born
- 5:39Speaker 1: or not when he won the Super Bowl.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I don't.
- 5:42Speaker 3: He's not my favorite player. I think he's overrated.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But Jet fans, some Jet fans who were not alive
- 5:47Speaker 1: in 1969, 70, they will tell you that Namath is
- 5:51Speaker 1: their favorite Jet of all time.
- 5:53Speaker 4: It's ludicrous. It's absolutely ludicrous, Stu. And I liked your
- 5:57Speaker 4: point on Namath, by the way. Years ago, Sports Illustrated
- 5:59Speaker 4: had this great magazine which they said overrated, underrated, and
- 6:03Speaker 4: went through all the major figures. Most overrated quarterback was
- 6:05Speaker 4: Joe Namath. Look at his numbers. The guy was a
- 6:08Speaker 4: 500 quarterback.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:09Speaker 4: One unbelievable game. But, like, you look at his numbers,
- 6:11Speaker 4: there's no way he should be mentioned with Brady, Aikman, Bradshaw,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you name it. This doesn't make any sense, Taylor. Why
- 6:19Speaker 4: on earth? Give me any team. I mean, this is
- 6:21Speaker 4: beyond absurdity. That's like a Blue Jays fan born in
- 6:24Speaker 4: 2000 saying, Joe Carter's his favorite Blue Jays.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Like, what are you talking about?
- 6:27Speaker 4: Just because you've seen the image of him jumping around
- 6:29Speaker 4: winning the World Series?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Like, no.
- 6:30Speaker 4: If Emmitt Smith's your favorite player, the earliest you could
- 6:32Speaker 4: have been born is 1990. Maybe at five years of age,
- 6:35Speaker 4: you remember Emmitt Smith doing that.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Like, that.
- 6:37Speaker 4: That's like being a Steelers fan born in 1987. Who's
- 6:39Speaker 4: your favorite player? Paul Amalo, Roethlisberger? No, Jerry Bradshaw.
- 6:42Speaker 2: What?
- 6:43Speaker 4: I love Frank Harris. That's stupidity.
- 6:46Speaker 3: It depends on the team, though. It really does, right?
- 6:49Speaker 4: And that's why you're right. With the Jets, it makes
- 6:51Speaker 4: a little sense because, unfortunately, you guys have been such futility.
- 6:54Speaker 4: The one moment you go, well, I have to clink that.
- 6:57Speaker 4: What other Jet do I have? I can't pick Nick Folk.
- 7:00Speaker 4: What are we doing? Right.
- 7:01Speaker 1: But if you weren't alive for the Cowboys run with Emmitt,
- 7:03Speaker 1: Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, you were born after that run
- 7:06Speaker 1: and the Cowboys have been dreadful ever since. Maybe you
- 7:09Speaker 1: care about the Cowboys that much. It's like it's in
- 7:11Speaker 1: your family. You're a Cowboy fan at birth. Maybe Emmitt
- 7:14Speaker 1: Smith is your favorite Cowboy of all time because you
- 7:16Speaker 1: have no choice, you know.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess it's true. If you just have a
- 7:19Speaker 4: complete lack of success, it would make sense. It'd be
- 7:22Speaker 4: like an Angels fan born in 04, and all of
- 7:24Speaker 4: a sudden, like, Darren Erstad, your favorite Angel. Like, what
- 7:26Speaker 4: about Mike Trout? Like, Trout's never won anything. I gotta
- 7:28Speaker 4: go back to the Rally Monkey until they won a
- 7:30Speaker 4: World Series in 02. I'm riding with Jared Weaver. I'm like, okay,
- 7:33Speaker 4: I guess that's how we're gonna do it.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I'm trying to put myself in these shoes, and I'm
- 7:38Speaker 5: thinking right now, if today I had a son... And
- 7:41Speaker 5: he grows up to be a Yankee fan, and he's like, man,
- 7:44Speaker 5: all my dad does is wax poetically about Derek Jeter
- 7:48Speaker 5: or watching the Yes Network 24-7 and watching classics. The
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yankees still haven't won a World Series. Their last World
- 7:55Speaker 5: Series was 2009. Aaron Judge has let me down. Aaron
- 7:58Speaker 5: Judge Jr. has let me down, too. I could see
- 8:01Speaker 5: that kid being a Darjeet-er is his favorite player fan.
- 8:05Speaker 5: And if that was my son, I would be damn
- 8:07Speaker 5: proud of him.
- 8:09Speaker 4: There's a big difference between saying I'm a big fan
- 8:11Speaker 4: and he's my favorite player. So think about this. As
- 8:14Speaker 4: an Eagles fan, I was born in 78. So Cunningham's
- 8:17Speaker 4: my favorite player, right? That makes sense. That's the era
- 8:19Speaker 4: which I grew up in. I love McNabb and, of course,
- 8:21Speaker 4: Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. So when I meet Ron
- 8:23Speaker 4: Jaworski at ESPN, I'm like, oh, my God, Jaws. I
- 8:26Speaker 4: know he's an all-time great eagle, but I was two
- 8:29Speaker 4: when he was in the Super Bowl. He's my favorite eagle.
- 8:32Speaker 4: I can say, Jaws, I love you, all-time great eagle.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Favorite player? No. So as a Yankee fan, you can say,
- 8:38Speaker 4: I love Derek Jeter, but it's supposed to be somebody
- 8:41Speaker 4: more of your era.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It's a ludicrous argument.
- 8:43Speaker 1: But the Eagles have had success since. That's the big difference, yes.
- 8:46Speaker 5: So I have a perfect example, I think, Stu. What
- 8:49Speaker 5: about Chicago Bulls fans who have been born since Michael Jordan?
- 8:53Speaker 4: Jordan's their favorite Bull of all time.
- 8:54Speaker 5: You have the greatest player of all time. He's not
- 8:57Speaker 5: your favorite Bull of all time?
- 8:58Speaker 4: He's your favorite bowl of all time.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:00Speaker 1: If you were born after Michael Jordan stopped playing basketball,
- 9:03Speaker 1: he is your favorite.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Chicago bowl of all time.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Of course. Right. Yeah. I think that's one where we
- 9:07Speaker 4: have to make an exception because he's so supernatural. And again,
- 9:10Speaker 4: the bulls have stunk. That's the key point that Stu
- 9:12Speaker 4: is pointing out to think is key is that that's
- 9:14Speaker 4: the nuance. If your team has still been good while
- 9:16Speaker 4: you've been alive, then you should have other players to
- 9:18Speaker 4: rally around. But if you're the bulls. It's been a
- 9:20Speaker 4: lot of dreck ever since then. And Jordan's the greatest ever. So, yeah,
- 9:24Speaker 4: you know what? I'll allow an exception. Bulls, no matter
- 9:26Speaker 4: what age you are, you can be a Michael Jordan
- 9:30Speaker 4: if you care.
- 9:30Speaker 1: What if you're a Laker fan that was born after
- 9:33Speaker 1: the Shaq and Kobe run and your choice is LeBron
- 9:36Speaker 1: James who won a championship in a bubble?
- 9:38Speaker 3: It doesn't really count.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Or it's Kobe.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I would go Kobe.
- 9:41Speaker 4: I would.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And I'd be okay with it. Meaning he saw LeBron,
- 9:45Speaker 1: he didn't see Kobe. He or she saw LeBron, didn't
- 9:48Speaker 1: see Kobe, and Kobe is still their favorite Laker of
- 9:50Speaker 1: all time.
- 9:50Speaker 5: And it's tough because the younger generation is growing up
- 9:53Speaker 5: wanting to be LeBron fans, but the older generation that
- 9:57Speaker 5: that is influencing these kids as Laker fans, they don't
- 10:00Speaker 5: really respect LeBron's tenure in LA.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Yeah, again, that's where the wrinkle becomes. I would argue
- 10:06Speaker 4: you had LeBron in purple and gold. It wasn't like
- 10:08Speaker 4: a cup of coffee. No, he was there. He served
- 10:10Speaker 4: substantial time. He loves Lakers. But he doesn't feel like
- 10:13Speaker 4: a Laker. And the key point is, Stu, that championship
- 10:16Speaker 4: was a joke. People mention the Dodgers. It's their first
- 10:19Speaker 4: world title since 2008. What are you talking about? They go,
- 10:22Speaker 4: the COVID year. I go, it was a 60-game baseball season.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Stop.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Stupidest World Series title I've ever heard of in my life. Like, what?
- 10:29Speaker 4: No one's taking that seriously. No one goes, remember that
- 10:32Speaker 4: arduous 60-game season? And then Clayton Kershaw finally won a
- 10:35Speaker 4: World Series. I'm like, no, it's completely diluted. It's a joke.
- 10:39Speaker 1: How would you feel if one of your kids said, hey, dad.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Favorite tennis player of all time is someone other than
- 10:45Speaker 1: Roger Federer.
- 10:47Speaker 4: It's a great question. One of my friends asked me
- 10:49Speaker 4: the other day, he said, hey, you know, since Federer's
- 10:51Speaker 4: been gone, who do you root for? And I go,
- 10:53Speaker 4: no one. He said, what do you mean? I go,
- 10:55Speaker 4: I watch tennis, I love tennis, but... No one will
- 10:59Speaker 4: ever match the sheer wattage and beloved nature I have
- 11:02Speaker 4: towards Roger Federer. I like O.J. Aliassime because I'm Canadian.
- 11:05Speaker 4: I root for Felix, okay? Right. Like you said, bounce
- 11:07Speaker 4: Shelton to the left. He's got a good serve. Okay, cool.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Taylor Fritz, we're locked in right now, you and me,
- 11:11Speaker 4: but no one ever.
- 11:14Speaker 4: It often makes me think, I think it was Bill
- 11:15Speaker 4: Simmons who once said, a great sign of parental failure
- 11:19Speaker 4: is if your kids don't cheer for your teams. Like
- 11:22Speaker 4: if Taylor's kid Godwin was a Red Sox fan, he'd go,
- 11:25Speaker 4: you must hate your father. Like, wow, you really stuck
- 11:27Speaker 4: it to him by doing that.
- 11:29Speaker 3: So you're right.
- 11:29Speaker 4: If ever my kids didn't name Federer as their favorite player,
- 11:33Speaker 4: that is parental failure 101. Managerial malpractice by me. Shame
- 11:37Speaker 4: on you. I poisoned them into thinking like when I
- 11:40Speaker 4: told them I'm going to run around to meet Federer,
- 11:42Speaker 4: they saw he's the goat. He's LeBron. Like if you
- 11:44Speaker 4: had other people in the makeup, well, Joker is 24 majors.
- 11:47Speaker 4: The Dow beat him head to head. My kids are
- 11:48Speaker 4: so poisoned by my nonsense. They're like, yeah, Rogers, he's
- 11:53Speaker 4: the LeBron and the Michael Jordan of tennis. No one's
- 11:55Speaker 4: even close to this guy. I'm like, yes, I've got
- 11:58Speaker 4: them believing my nonsense.
- 12:00Speaker 5: I would rather my kid grows up to be a
- 12:02Speaker 5: Red Sox fan than he grows up to be a
- 12:05Speaker 5: Duke fan.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Wow. That's a good question. What would be the least
- 12:08Speaker 4: favorite thing you'd like to see happen? He loves the Yankees.
- 12:11Speaker 1: He loves Carolina. He went to Carolina. He walked onto
- 12:14Speaker 1: that football team. So you're saying that you would rather
- 12:16Speaker 1: your kid come to you one day and say, hey,
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'm a Red Sox fan, just as long as he
- 12:20Speaker 1: doesn't say he's a Duke fan, right?
- 12:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that's where I draw the line.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Right. Interesting. To be clear, though, Taylor, again, I know
- 12:25Speaker 4: we hate Duke, but Duke is a great school. Imagine
- 12:28Speaker 4: your son's going to Duke Law School and he happens
- 12:31Speaker 4: to be a Blue Devils fan. You're just saying fandom.
- 12:33Speaker 4: What if he actually gets accepted to Duke, which is
- 12:34Speaker 4: a great institution? You're not going to let him go
- 12:36Speaker 4: to Duke? He's not going to let him apply to Duke.
- 12:39Speaker 5: And I'm definitely not paying that tuition.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He gets a full scholarship. Full ride. Super smart kid.
- 12:46Speaker 4: He's going to Duke Law School and you're going to go, sorry, buddy.
- 12:47Speaker 4: He'd rather pay for him to go somewhere else. He would.
- 12:50Speaker 5: You go to Elon down the street, buddy. Be a phoenix.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Not quite the same prestige as graduating from Duke.
- 12:59Speaker 5: Elon over Duke.
- 13:00Speaker 4: That is unbelievable. That is a true thing about a Thursday.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Some people call Elon the Harvard of the South.
- 13:09Speaker 4: No, that's not happening. There's no one saying that. Come on.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Still people is no people. Taylor, put it on the poll, please.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That's still got 790 on X. Does anyone refer to
- 13:17Speaker 1: Elon as the Harvard of the South? 877-99 on Fox.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Can your favorite player from your favorite team be a
- 13:28Speaker 1: player that you never saw play?
- 13:32Speaker 3: 877-99 on Fox.
- 13:35Speaker 1: That's why we call it a Think About It Thursday.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I'm thinking. I mean, I prefer not to think, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: here I am thinking. I just want to watch Taylor Fritz.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 13:45Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m. Eastern, 12 p.m. Pacific on
- 13:50Speaker 2: Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
- 13:55Speaker 1: We'll get to the update and isaac in just a
- 13:57Speaker 1: minute here have some calls 877 99 on fox adnan
- 14:00Speaker 1: virk sitting in with us today let's go out to
- 14:03Speaker 1: mike who's in new york mike go ahead you're on
- 14:05Speaker 1: fox sports radio.
- 14:08Speaker 6: I'm a lifelong jets fan. Of course, I got some problems,
- 14:11Speaker 6: but I don't go around to, I would never say
- 14:14Speaker 6: Joe Namath is my favorite player. You know, I never
- 14:17Speaker 6: saw him play. I thought it's Martin player. I saw
- 14:19Speaker 6: Wesley Walker play. And, and you go to the bowls.
- 14:23Speaker 7: Like my analogy will be ice cream.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Like, how could you say your plate favorite flavor of
- 14:28Speaker 6: ice cream is one you've never tried.
- 14:30Speaker 5: You never saw Jordan play.
- 14:33Speaker 6: How can that be your favorite? You know, if you're
- 14:34Speaker 6: a fan, you're watching games, and one of the players
- 14:37Speaker 6: you're watching is going to become your favorite.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I love the ice cream analogy.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I do.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm not certain who you would go with if you're
- 14:45Speaker 1: a Bulls fan and you were born after Michael Jordan
- 14:47Speaker 1: stopped playing.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It's probably D.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Rose.
- 14:49Speaker 1: But that's terrible. He can't be your favorite Chicago Bull
- 14:52Speaker 1: of all time. D.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Rose had a moment.
- 14:54Speaker 4: He won an MVP.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Moment.
- 14:58Speaker 4: He would have won several MVPs had he stayed healthy.
- 15:01Speaker 4: He did have a moment. You're right.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I'm sorry. You stopped me again.
- 15:04Speaker 4: It was a moment.
- 15:05Speaker 5: It was a season.
- 15:06Speaker 4: It was more than a moment. It was an.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Entire season of MVP basketball at the highest level. And yes,
- 15:13Speaker 1: he's a good player, but Michael Jordan's the greatest player
- 15:16Speaker 1: to ever play.
- 15:17Speaker 4: But the ice cream analogy is apropos, too. Imagine if
- 15:20Speaker 4: someone said, this chicken parm is to die for. You're going, really?
- 15:24Speaker 4: I've never had it.
- 15:24Speaker 2: What?
- 15:25Speaker 4: What do you mean? Everyone's told me this chicken parm
- 15:27Speaker 4: is amazing. You're going to go to this restaurant. But
- 15:29Speaker 4: you have to sample a little bit. The difference is, though,
- 15:32Speaker 4: you said with Jordan, there's such a wealth of video
- 15:35Speaker 4: available that you could feel like you've lived Jordan's life
- 15:37Speaker 4: just by watching YouTube. Right. Like, I'm not certain you
- 15:40Speaker 4: can do that with Joe Namath and go back and
- 15:41Speaker 4: watch all these games. Maybe you could, I suppose. But
- 15:43Speaker 4: like in this era, you could go back as a
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yankees fan and watch all of Derek Jeter's games. They
- 15:49Speaker 4: replay them all the time. I feel like you're living
- 15:51Speaker 4: through them. So I do think that if you're a
- 15:53Speaker 4: player who is of our recent vintage, it's easier to
- 15:55Speaker 4: make that argument rather than an old relic from the past.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Taylor, do me a favor. After this call, if you can,
- 16:00Speaker 1: pull up Bob Ryan's tweets from the other day so
- 16:02Speaker 1: we can get at Nan's reaction to what Bob Ryan
- 16:07Speaker 1: was tweeting about. 877-99 on Fox. Let's go to Scott,
- 16:11Speaker 1: who's in Maryland today.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Scott, go ahead. You're on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Hey, thank you.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Love the humor. Love the lightheartedness. The last caller kind
- 16:19Speaker 7: of stole a little bit of my thunder, essentially the
- 16:22Speaker 7: same comment where your favorite player versus best player isn't
- 16:27Speaker 7: always the same. And I'll tape a Bay race fan
- 16:31Speaker 7: and through the early years here of their success. And
- 16:34Speaker 7: my favorite player was Ben's overest. I liked the underdog.
- 16:37Speaker 7: I liked the, the platoon player side of him. But
- 16:40Speaker 7: if I were to say he was better than Evan
- 16:42Speaker 7: on Gloria, I'd be a fool, you know? So, so yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 7: I like the ice cream analogy also. I think it's
- 16:49Speaker 7: okay to have a favorite, but it's also a different scenario.
- 16:52Speaker 7: If you claim your favorite was the best and that's
- 16:55Speaker 7: a different conversation.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Anyway, every tire in this lovely humor. Yes.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:01Speaker 4: But if they just the ice cream analogy, if they
- 17:03Speaker 4: retired pralines and cream.
- 17:05Speaker 3: OK, which means I never tasted it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: OK, but enough people told me it was the greatest
- 17:10Speaker 1: ice cream of all time. I would trust those people.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm OK with Jordan.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's the exception to me. I'm OK with a guy
- 17:18Speaker 1: being born after Jordan stopped playing. and Michael Jordan still
- 17:22Speaker 1: being his favorite Chicago Bull of all time.
- 17:24Speaker 3: He's my favorite Bull of all time. He's my favorite
- 17:26Speaker 3: basketball player of all time.
- 17:27Speaker 5: I'm trying to put myself in the Rays fan shoes.
- 17:30Speaker 5: If I was a Rays fan growing up, I'm trying
- 17:33Speaker 5: to think, would I be a Rocko Baldelli guy as
- 17:36Speaker 5: my favorite player or Carl Crawford? Because I think I
- 17:38Speaker 5: would be Carl Crawford.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I was going to say the great Carlos Pena, former
- 17:42Speaker 4: colleague and friend. 46 home runs, franchise record in a
- 17:45Speaker 4: single season. Pena to me was a great rate, but
- 17:48Speaker 4: I do like Baldelli and certainly Evan Longoria is at
- 17:50Speaker 4: the top of that list.
- 17:51Speaker 5: I think I might also be a Julio Lugo guy too.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Full underrated Julio Lugo.
- 17:57Speaker 3: He can pick it.
- 17:59Speaker 4: He can pick it.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But Adnan, your baseball team has had so much success
- 18:02Speaker 1: that it's easy to pick Derek Jeter. Had they not
- 18:04Speaker 1: won since you were born, you might go Joe DiMaggio,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know?
- 18:09Speaker 4: Well, yeah, definitely. If I was Mad Dog, I'd definitely
- 18:11Speaker 4: go with Joe DiMaggio. I mean, there's no question about that. DiMaggio,
- 18:14Speaker 4: how else is it going to be? The Yankees are lucky.
- 18:16Speaker 4: They've got so many different options as far as their
- 18:18Speaker 4: favorite players are concerned. But you're right. It becomes harder with, like,
- 18:21Speaker 4: these lousier teams. That's where, like, the ways, it's like, oh,
- 18:23Speaker 4: my God. Like, you just hold on to whatever semblance
- 18:26Speaker 4: of glory you've had.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 18:28Speaker 4: That's where it becomes tricky. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 18:29Speaker 5: In the early, like, 1900s and 1920s, when.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Information wasn't as readily available. And the Yankees have somebody
- 18:38Speaker 5: like Babe Ruth, who was a catalyst in itself, like
- 18:41Speaker 5: an Aaron Judge type, like a Shohei Otani type. Do
- 18:44Speaker 5: you think people went to the ballpark and like, Roger
- 18:46Speaker 5: Peckinpah is my favorite player?
- 18:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 3: That's the second time.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I love that name.
- 18:53Speaker 3: You have trotted out that name this week.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I'll shoehorn that name into any conversation I can. So
- 18:57Speaker 1: will Bob Ryan. Why don't you read Adnan before we
- 19:00Speaker 1: go to the updates? Why don't you read the tweets
- 19:02Speaker 1: from Bob Ryan? This is what Bob does. Adnan, you
- 19:05Speaker 1: remember when I was doing the show with Dan, we
- 19:07Speaker 1: would have Bob on to explain his tweets. Cause he
- 19:10Speaker 1: just puts stuff out there. He doesn't really elaborate. Uh,
- 19:13Speaker 1: but Bob is all about Boston. He is all about
- 19:15Speaker 1: the red Sox and he's all about crushing Derek Jeter. Uh, what,
- 19:19Speaker 1: what do you have for us?
- 19:20Speaker 5: Yeah. No context. Bob Ryan tweets out. Derek Jeter did
- 19:24Speaker 5: not dive into the stands to catch a ball. He
- 19:26Speaker 5: made a nice running catch in the playing field and
- 19:29Speaker 5: his momentum carried him into the stands. Nice play, but
- 19:32Speaker 5: not heroic. And then he followed it up 22 hours later.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Jeter was daringly reckless and he made a great play.
- 19:39Speaker 5: He risked injury. He should be commended, but he caught
- 19:42Speaker 5: the ball in foul territory and kept on going. He
- 19:45Speaker 5: did not dive into the stand.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Two tweets separated by 22 hours. And again, there's no
- 19:51Speaker 4: context being given to this. Nobody's asking Bob Ryan to
- 19:54Speaker 4: reflect on the Derek Jeter bloody chin game. Nobody's saying
- 19:57Speaker 4: Red Sox, Yankees, potential wildcard player preview. This is just
- 20:00Speaker 4: the musings of Bob Ryan, a legendary sports for sitting
- 20:03Speaker 4: on his couch, watching the Red Sox. You know what?
- 20:05Speaker 4: I'm going to tweet about Jeter today.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Yesterday, Bob Ryan tweeted out, I bet Mike Mussina knows
- 20:12Speaker 5: what day this is. I sure do. Because this was
- 20:15Speaker 5: the day in 2001 where Carl Everett broke up Mike
- 20:18Speaker 5: Mussina's perfect game on the last out.
- 20:21Speaker 4: He didn't put all that in the tweet, though, did he? No.
- 20:23Speaker 5: It was just, I bet Mike Mussina knows what day
- 20:26Speaker 5: this is.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Right, and that's why we would have Bob on for
- 20:28Speaker 1: him to elaborate on what the hell it is he
- 20:31Speaker 1: meant by that.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Get him on tomorrow. Absolutely. The good news is Bob
- 20:35Speaker 4: believes in brevity. He just wants you to kind of
- 20:38Speaker 4: figure out the rest of what he's saying. It's a
- 20:39Speaker 4: little bit cryptic, but I like the fact it makes
- 20:41Speaker 4: the audience work a little bit. Bob Ryan, I'll tell
- 20:44Speaker 4: you this about Carl Everett. Dan Shaughnessy, speaking of Boston
- 20:46Speaker 4: sports writers, forever referred to Carl Everett by first reference.
- 20:50Speaker 4: This will make Tim Kirchner cry with laughter. On first reference,
- 20:53Speaker 4: he referred to him as Jurassic Carl, because Carl Everett
- 20:56Speaker 4: one time said he did not believe in dinosaurs. So
- 20:59Speaker 4: for years, I'm telling you, nine years later, Jurassic Carl,
- 21:03Speaker 4: the critical base, if you didn't know what the hell
- 21:05Speaker 4: Dan Shazzy was talking about, it was hilarious. And as
- 21:08Speaker 4: for Bob Ryan, he once said one of the best
- 21:10Speaker 4: quotes I've ever thought about broadcasting. And someone said to me,
- 21:12Speaker 4: do you think you're a good broadcaster, bad broadcaster? I go,
- 21:14Speaker 4: Bob Ryan said this, on my worst day, you could
- 21:17Speaker 4: wake me up in the middle of the night and
- 21:19Speaker 4: tell me to write a column, and I think I
- 21:20Speaker 4: could hit you a stand-up double. that's an all-time good
- 21:22Speaker 4: lie right did you hit a home run today you
- 21:24Speaker 4: got to know but like you could rustle me up
- 21:26Speaker 4: out of bed and i can hit you a stand-up
- 21:28Speaker 4: double that's bob ryan what would you.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Guys say is the mount rushmore of boston sports writers
- 21:34Speaker 5: because it feels like bob ryan and shaughnessy have to
- 21:37Speaker 5: be locks well those are two yes then the last
- 21:40Speaker 5: two spots it's like jackie mcmullin peter gammons bill simmons
- 21:44Speaker 5: is a.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Sports writer oh i would say jackie mcmullin deserves to
- 21:46Speaker 3: be on.
- 21:46Speaker 4: The mount rushmore yes yeah i think i think it's
- 21:49Speaker 4: jackie and i think it's uh who was the fourth
- 21:50Speaker 4: one you said Peter Gammons. Gammons, Simmons. Does Wickersham count?
- 21:56Speaker 4: Wickersham is always doing a deep dive on something.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I mean, that guy.
- 21:59Speaker 4: If Seth Wickersham comes calling, I'm terrified. I have no guilt,
- 22:04Speaker 4: but I'm crapping my pants if Seth Wickersham. I just
- 22:06Speaker 4: want to talk to you for a second. I'm like, oh,
- 22:07Speaker 4: my God. How did he find out what I did
- 22:09Speaker 4: back in 1997 in Toronto? Seth, I have nothing to
- 22:11Speaker 4: say to you.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I mean, if it's not Wickersham, it's Pablo. If it's
- 22:14Speaker 1: not Pablo, it's Wickersham. It's like tango and cash.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Both those guys give me hives.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Pablo's having a day though.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Oh my god credit to him like he could be
- 22:26Speaker 4: taking such a victory lap right now him and Samson
- 22:28Speaker 4: said they're just you know you don't need to brag
- 22:31Speaker 4: if you know what's going what the deal is right
- 22:33Speaker 4: they're just kind of like Barry Sanders just handing the
- 22:34Speaker 4: football away we scrubbed the touchdown yeah we called we
- 22:37Speaker 4: knew all along great moment the guy already won a
- 22:39Speaker 4: Pulitzer how can you top that by exposing Steve Ballmer
- 22:43Speaker 4: and the Clippers incredible His silence, his silence, his silence, Adnan,
- 22:47Speaker 4: is a victory lap. You're absolutely right.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Stone cold clip.
- 22:51Speaker 4: One other thing I wanted to mention, this is apropos
- 22:53Speaker 4: of nothing, Stu, but I just want to mention this
- 22:54Speaker 4: before I forget. The last time I was on with you,
- 22:56Speaker 4: I wanted to mention, I also couldn't care less about
- 22:58Speaker 4: Dan Orlovsky's interest in country music. I mean, that review
- 23:03Speaker 4: of McAfee's album was one of the dumbest things I've
- 23:05Speaker 4: ever seen. If Dan Orlovsky wants to talk about football
- 23:08Speaker 4: to me, I am all ears. If Dan Orlovsky wants
- 23:10Speaker 4: to talk to me about country music, I am tone deaf.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I could not care less about his opinion.
- 23:15Speaker 3: That to me is.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Not an endorsement. All right. I'll text Orlovsky right now.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Save the country music reviews to somebody else. Yes. If
- 23:22Speaker 4: you're trying to support McAfee, I appreciate that. But let's
- 23:24Speaker 4: just talk about, you know, cover two. That's what I'm
- 23:27Speaker 4: looking for from Dan Orlovsky, not what cover band McAfee
- 23:30Speaker 4: should be doing next. I just want to make that clear.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Taylor said in my headphones, send the text and prove it.
- 23:35Speaker 4: We want proof. We want to send the text and
- 23:37Speaker 4: send the screenshot. Send it to Orlovsky right now. His
- 23:42Speaker 4: favorite NBA player. Adnan, I want you to medal stand.
- 23:48Speaker 4: We'll get to tennis in a second. All right.
- 23:50Speaker 1: But I have an assortment of sounds, mistakes from the
- 23:52Speaker 1: show here. that have happened recently, and I want you
- 23:56Speaker 1: to put them on a medal stand, okay? I have
- 23:57Speaker 1: six to choose from, all right? We're going to start
- 24:00Speaker 1: here with our first one.
- 24:02Speaker 3: This is Taylor.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I think you've heard this already. Unfortunately for Taylor, he
- 24:06Speaker 1: made this mistake on Martin Luther King Day. Here is
- 24:10Speaker 1: Taylor trying to say, back up quarterback.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Black backup quarterback. That was me being an ally.
- 24:18Speaker 4: Again, Martin Luther King Day.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Black backup quarterback.
- 24:22Speaker 4: On a scale of 1 to 10, it's maybe a 2.
- 24:25Speaker 4: What's helpful is the context of being at Martin Luther
- 24:27Speaker 4: King Day. If you just do it randomly, I'm not
- 24:29Speaker 4: sure why, but it's a better slub in terms of context.
- 24:33Speaker 4: It's 2 out of 5. I don't think it's a
- 24:34Speaker 4: medal statement. It's good. He's going to break them all down.
- 24:36Speaker 4: I love this.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Here's the next one.
- 24:38Speaker 1: This is me, and this is a very dangerous name
- 24:40Speaker 1: to say when you're speaking quickly. This is me trying
- 24:43Speaker 1: to pronounce legendary producer of the Christopher Mad Dog Russo show,
- 24:48Speaker 1: Eddie Erickson.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Headset, and perhaps Eddie Erickson.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Headset, and perhaps Eddie Erickson. It's also two out of five.
- 25:00Speaker 4: It's not terrible. It's actually understandable because, again, it's a
- 25:03Speaker 4: tough name. Eddie Erickson, that does not flow off the tongue.
- 25:06Speaker 4: It's a cool name. It's a fun name.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:08Speaker 4: The alliteration is there, but if you're sitting quickly, you're
- 25:10Speaker 4: going to trip up. So that's understandable. That's not metal standing. Right.
- 25:13Speaker 1: This one is also understandable because I'm terrified just trying
- 25:17Speaker 1: to throw it to the sound here. Here is Taylor
- 25:20Speaker 1: trying to say abdomen.
- 25:22Speaker 4: My shorts are tight.
- 25:23Speaker 5: I feel like your abdominal is about to explode. Yeah.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Adonimum.
- 25:29Speaker 3: That might be metal, Stan.
- 25:30Speaker 4: That could be a bronze medal right there. That's pretty brutal.
- 25:34Speaker 4: That's pretty bad. You haven't heard anything yet.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Here's Taylor trying to pronounce the easiest name in sports
- 25:39Speaker 1: media to pronounce.
- 25:41Speaker 4: T-Bob.
- 25:42Speaker 5: We have T-Bob A-Bear on. We have T-Bob A-Bear on.
- 25:50Speaker 4: That's like a four out of five. How are you
- 25:51Speaker 4: screwing up T-Bob here, Taylor? Come on. You're an educated man. Yips.
- 25:55Speaker 5: Yips.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Knoblock. That's what I said.
- 26:00Speaker 1: We had a celebrity prognosticator this week.
- 26:03Speaker 3: It was Steve Spurrier.
- 26:04Speaker 1: This is Taylor trying to say the old ball coach.
- 26:06Speaker 5: To get the old boat. I don't know how.
- 26:09Speaker 4: That doesn't win gold medal. That is brilliant. That is
- 26:16Speaker 4: the old ball coach getting mangled.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I got to hear that again.
- 26:20Speaker 5: To get the all boat.
- 26:24Speaker 1: The only reason that won't win is because the next
- 26:26Speaker 1: one is going to win. Dominique Foxworth was on the
- 26:29Speaker 1: show with us, and here was me trying to pronounce
- 26:32Speaker 1: my friend's name. 877-99 on Fox. I don't know why
- 26:36Speaker 1: I'm giving out the phone number. Dominique Foxworth. Now I
- 26:40Speaker 1: got it. Like Kevin Duckworth. Yes, Kevin Duckworth.
- 26:47Speaker 4: Laser center. Very good reference. Another name scary to say.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I just love Dominique's reaction.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Whoa!
- 26:53Speaker 4: What just got up in here? That escalated quickly. But
- 26:58Speaker 4: in fairness, too, that's not the first time he's heard
- 26:59Speaker 4: that before. That, I'm sure, is a common name that
- 27:02Speaker 4: has been yelled at him by many defensive backs coach
- 27:04Speaker 4: over the years. Yes, no question about it. I did
- 27:06Speaker 4: it on national radio live, though.
- 27:08Speaker 5: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I'm going to hazard a guess. Trey Wingo never did
- 27:13Speaker 4: that NFL live. No. I'm going to guess Dan did
- 27:16Speaker 4: not do that with you on Levitard. This was a first. No,
- 27:19Speaker 4: Dan had a few slip-ups. I mean, Dan is a.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Great broadcaster, but you're not putting him like with Vince Scully,
- 27:26Speaker 1: are you? Fair enough, yeah. I'm not putting him up there.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Will McDunn either, by the way. Will McDunn is copying
- 27:32Speaker 1: our boss to Mount Rushmore.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Well, you know what happened there? Taylor just gave us
- 27:36Speaker 4: a fourth name, and we went with it. If he
- 27:39Speaker 4: just said, who do you guys think? Once he's, oh, Jack,
- 27:41Speaker 4: of course. Bill Simmons, yeah. Peter Gabriel, yeah. Listen, you
- 27:46Speaker 4: and I both love Sean McDonough. Sean McDonough wouldn't speak
- 27:48Speaker 4: to us for weeks if he did not put his
- 27:50Speaker 4: father in the Mount Rushmore of Boston sportswriters, to be clear. Yes,
- 27:53Speaker 4: he'd be very upset. Borda Ricardo loves the show.
- 27:56Speaker 1: He's great. He's the most valuable player of this show.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He really is on a daily basis. If you were
- 28:02Speaker 1: wondering at hand. He's a huge baseball guy, which I
- 28:03Speaker 1: love about him.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:05Speaker 1: If you're wondering what all those sounds sound like all
- 28:07Speaker 1: mashed up together, here's what it sounds like.
- 28:12Speaker 4: 877-99 on Fox.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I don't know why I'm giving out the phone number.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Dominique Foxworth.
- 28:18Speaker 5: To get the all boat. To get the all boat.
- 28:21Speaker 5: To get the all boat. To get the all boat.
- 28:25Speaker 5: To get the all boat.
- 28:28Speaker 4: My shorts are tight.
- 28:29Speaker 5: I feel like your abdominal is about to explode. I
- 28:33Speaker 5: feel like your abdominal. I feel like your abdominal. I
- 28:35Speaker 5: feel like your abdominal.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Dominique's worth. Great job, Ricardo. And I think you nailed it.
- 28:44Speaker 4: The gold is definitely Dominique. The scooper is the old
- 28:47Speaker 4: ball coach. Strong bronze is the abdominal. That's... I have
- 28:52Speaker 4: an abdomen. Abdomen. That's pretty good. I might start using
- 28:55Speaker 4: abdomen now in conversation.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I mean, black-up quarterback on Martin Luther King Day.
- 29:00Speaker 5: It's black-up quarterback.
- 29:05Speaker 3: 877-99 on Fox.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Taylor was so excited today because I believe you and
- 29:10Speaker 1: I both rejected the idea. Taylor would not trade Cam Schlittler.
- 29:15Speaker 1: That's a dangerous name to say right there, and I
- 29:18Speaker 1: nailed it. Yes, he said it early in the season
- 29:21Speaker 1: that he would not trade him straight up for Paul Skeens. Now,
- 29:24Speaker 1: Skeens hasn't been great. Cam has been very, very good.
- 29:28Speaker 1: You and I laughed at Taylor, and Taylor was excited
- 29:31Speaker 1: to throw it in your face. What do you have, Taylor?
- 29:33Speaker 5: Not only do I believe what Adnan says, I have
- 29:36Speaker 5: the exact question where I asked it to Adnan, and
- 29:39Speaker 5: this is that. sound. The Yankees' Cam Schlittler is Paul
- 29:44Speaker 5: Skeens with worse PR, Adnan.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Fair or foul?
- 29:49Speaker 1: Adnan, before you answer that, okay, he said earlier in
- 29:51Speaker 1: the week that he would not trade Cam straight up
- 29:53Speaker 1: for Paul Skeens, okay?
- 29:55Speaker 4: That's an absurd statement. It's a foul statement, okay? Okay,
- 30:01Speaker 4: for one season, Taylor can take his victory lap. Unlike
- 30:04Speaker 4: Pablo Torre, who will take a lap with class and
- 30:06Speaker 4: dignity and silence. Taylor would like to throw up my
- 30:08Speaker 4: face here. Congratulations. Paul Skeens is a 3-9-7 ERA. If
- 30:13Speaker 4: it was 2-9-7, the Pirates would be in the playoffs.
- 30:16Speaker 4: And last year, it was 1-9-7. But Schlibler has been awesome.
- 30:18Speaker 4: There's no question about it. 2-0-4 ERA right now leads
- 30:21Speaker 4: the American League. But he's not the.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Signing winner award yet.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Him and Dylan Cease going head-to-head is going to be great.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Cease has got him in fifth, if you want to
- 30:28Speaker 4: get nerdy about it. But both of them were great
- 30:30Speaker 4: last night. Schlittler, eight innings. Cease pitched six. Cease might
- 30:33Speaker 4: pitch the Blue Jays into the playoffs, so help his narrative.
- 30:36Speaker 4: He's been the ace. But on a rotation with a
- 30:39Speaker 4: signing award winner in Garrett Cole, with Max Fried, Carlos Rodon,
- 30:42Speaker 4: Schlittler has been awesome. And the coolest part is, as
- 30:44Speaker 4: you know, Taylor, My man just doesn't mess around. It's
- 30:47Speaker 4: all 98 mile an hour four-seamers. Like, he just goes
- 30:49Speaker 4: out there and gets it. He's been more efficient than
- 30:51Speaker 4: Dylan Cease. And I must admit, he is the Paul
- 30:55Speaker 4: Skeens of the American League this year. Right now, the
- 30:56Speaker 4: slight favorite to win the Cy Young.
- 30:58Speaker 5: On FanDuel, minus 240 to win the Cy Young against
- 31:02Speaker 5: Dylan Cease at plus 200. It's not Dylan Cease's fault, Adnan,
- 31:05Speaker 5: that his games don't carry the same stakes with how
- 31:08Speaker 5: bad the Blue Jays have been. But it feels like
- 31:11Speaker 5: it is an advantage for Cam Schlittler with that struggling
- 31:14Speaker 5: Yankees offense. Every start kind of feels like a playoff
- 31:17Speaker 5: game because there's zero margin for error every time Cam
- 31:20Speaker 5: Schlittler takes the ball every fifth game.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Yeah, although I would argue the same could be said
- 31:24Speaker 4: for the Blue Jays. I mean, if they lost to
- 31:26Speaker 4: Cleveland yesterday, like, that's it. The season's over. And Dylan
- 31:29Speaker 4: Cease was their ace, and he went up there and shoved.
- 31:31Speaker 4: And Vlad Jr. had five RBIs, and they played great.
- 31:33Speaker 4: And I said, going into the series, the Blue Jays
- 31:35Speaker 4: had to win two or three to make that a
- 31:36Speaker 4: race right now for the wild card. But you're right.
- 31:38Speaker 4: The Yankees' offense has been atrocious without Judge. They are
- 31:41Speaker 4: 30th in batting average, 20th in OPS, 27th in slot
- 31:45Speaker 4: without judges is May 31st. But the good news, as
- 31:47Speaker 4: you know, is Judges is coming back. He's on the
- 31:49Speaker 4: road trip right now. I don't think he plays Labor Day.
- 31:52Speaker 4: My best guess, I don't think Booney will respond to
- 31:54Speaker 4: my text, but I believe it's Tuesday or Wednesday. I
- 31:57Speaker 4: think he could DH. And then by the weekend, he's
- 31:59Speaker 4: playing in the outfield. So Aaron Judges is coming back.
- 32:01Speaker 4: That's good news for Cam Schlittler and that Yankee staff.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Has Orlowski responded to your text? Orlovsky's going to take
- 32:10Speaker 4: serious umbrage at this. Listen, I know my country music.
- 32:13Speaker 4: I know my bona fides. I can talk George Strait.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I can talk Johnny Cash.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I can talk Pat McAfee.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Orlovsky, save it. I don't need you pumping up a
- 32:23Speaker 4: guy's country music. How many people do you think still
- 32:25Speaker 4: honestly said to themselves, I was on the fence about
- 32:28Speaker 4: purchasing this, but if Orlovsky's in, I'm in.
- 32:31Speaker 3: If you played one single.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Person into buying Pat McAfee's country album on Orlovsky endorsement,
- 32:38Speaker 4: I'm going to go ahead and say no.
- 32:39Speaker 5: And I think it did the opposite. I think people
- 32:41Speaker 5: were like, I'm not listening to this now.
- 32:44Speaker 4: He likes it. I'm out. Right. Lofsky endorsement actually hurt
- 32:48Speaker 4: Pat McAfee's sales.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Be sure to catch live editions of Stu Godson Company
- 32:53Speaker 2: live weekdays at 3 p.m.
- 32:55Speaker 4: Eastern, 12 p.m.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Pacific.
- 32:59Speaker 1: We will get to Adnan and his trip to the
- 33:01Speaker 1: Tennis Hall of Fame and his question for Roger Federer
- 33:05Speaker 1: and him meeting Roger Federer. which is a dream of his.
- 33:09Speaker 1: He has the Fed hat on. He is a proud
- 33:11Speaker 1: member of hashtag Team Federer. We'll get to that in
- 33:16Speaker 1: just a minute. I know he had a great time.
- 33:19Speaker 1: The question he asked and the response from Roger.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Is laugh out loud funny, at least to me.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But Taylor had a— so we'll do that at the top
- 33:26Speaker 1: of the hour. John Fanta going to join us as
- 33:27Speaker 1: well in hour number two. Taylor had a strange interaction
- 33:32Speaker 1: at the gym. Now, we were laughing yesterday that my
- 33:35Speaker 1: feet will never step into a gym ever again. But, Taylor,
- 33:40Speaker 1: what was your interaction? He is still young. He's still
- 33:42Speaker 1: trying to stay in shape. He was a walk-on football
- 33:45Speaker 1: player at North Carolina, and before that, he was a
- 33:47Speaker 1: track star at North Carolina.
- 33:49Speaker 4: So Taylor is still hitting the gym. What was your
- 33:51Speaker 4: funny interaction, Taylor?
- 33:53Speaker 5: So I recently started going to a new gym, and
- 33:55Speaker 5: I'm going at the same time. So I see the
- 33:57Speaker 5: same gym crew every time. When I go this week,
- 34:01Speaker 5: I'm wearing a Jets cutoff tank that I got. I
- 34:04Speaker 5: just like the design on it. I don't think anything
- 34:06Speaker 5: of it. A guy comes up to me, and he's like,
- 34:09Speaker 5: let's go Jets. And he's ready to talk Jets football
- 34:12Speaker 5: with me. I'm like, I don't really have much. My
- 34:14Speaker 5: days of being a Jets fan, Justin McCarron, santana moss
- 34:18Speaker 5: so i i go to him and i say hey
- 34:20Speaker 5: i'm not really that big of a jets fan i
- 34:22Speaker 5: kind of bounce around my favorite nfl team and he
- 34:25Speaker 5: looks so disappointed now we're just staring at each other
- 34:28Speaker 5: awkwardly and i'm wondering how you guys would have handled
- 34:31Speaker 5: that situation.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Uh he was so surprised by the way to see.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Someone wearing a jet shirt couldn't wait to talk there's
- 34:37Speaker 1: another fan out there uh how do you feel about
- 34:40Speaker 1: that edmund Yeah, I could totally understand the guy's dismay
- 34:43Speaker 1: and being let down.
- 34:44Speaker 4: We are so passionate about our teams that whenever you
- 34:48Speaker 4: see somebody who's got the same laundry on, you want
- 34:50Speaker 4: to engage in a conversation. So I like your honesty, Taylor,
- 34:53Speaker 4: but if I were you, I'd have lied and played
- 34:55Speaker 4: along a little bit more. While I was in Newport...
- 34:57Speaker 4: along with enjoying hashtag Team Fed. I took the cliff walk.
- 35:00Speaker 4: It was a very famous thing to do in Newport.
- 35:02Speaker 4: It's this gorgeous walk. It's basically a long hike. And
- 35:04Speaker 4: I saw a guy walk with a J's on it.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I go, go J's. And he comes and goes like,
- 35:07Speaker 4: he came like an awkward, and then after he sends
- 35:10Speaker 4: me a DM. He goes, oh my God, I can't
- 35:12Speaker 4: believe it was you. He goes, I didn't realize it
- 35:13Speaker 4: was you until 30 feet later. I go, that's Adam Burke.
- 35:16Speaker 4: I'm so sorry I didn't realize it was you. And
- 35:18Speaker 4: by the way, go J's. And then I think he
- 35:20Speaker 4: wanted to go into a conversation. I go, no, we're
- 35:21Speaker 4: done now. Like I said, go J's. You didn't pick
- 35:24Speaker 4: up on it. You didn't stop me to start talking
- 35:25Speaker 4: about Carlos Delgado. We move on.
- 35:27Speaker 5: And the problem there is you are never going to
- 35:30Speaker 5: see that guy ever again to where if I if
- 35:33Speaker 5: I was keeping the act up, pretending I'm still a
- 35:35Speaker 5: Jets fan.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Why would you?
- 35:37Speaker 5: The next time the next time I go into my dresser,
- 35:40Speaker 5: what I'm never going to wear another NFL team shirt ever.
- 35:43Speaker 5: If I show up to the gym and a Dolphins
- 35:44Speaker 5: or Bills or a Patriot shirt, that guy's looking at
- 35:47Speaker 5: me funny, being like, wait, you're the Jets guy.
- 35:50Speaker 4: To your point about wearing a jersey or shirt apparel
- 35:53Speaker 4: of a team you're not a fan of, the great
- 35:55Speaker 4: Alex Cora, when he was the manager of the Red Sox,
- 35:58Speaker 4: I was there at spring training two years ago when
- 36:00Speaker 4: they were Jake Peavy. And afterwards, Peavy knows the equipment
- 36:03Speaker 4: guy of the Red Sox, T-Mac, very famous guy, great guy.
- 36:06Speaker 4: And Peavy whispers to him, hey, Adnan's got four kids.
- 36:08Speaker 4: If you can get him some stuff. And he comes
- 36:10Speaker 4: back with, I'm not kidding, like... eight t-shirts of the
- 36:12Speaker 4: red sox and cora without missing a beat walked by
- 36:14Speaker 4: and goes what are you gonna do with that like
- 36:16Speaker 4: he goes this guy's a james fit like he's not
- 36:17Speaker 4: gonna wear this stuff so i had to give it
- 36:20Speaker 4: to guys at work i just found the red sox
- 36:22Speaker 4: fans right and i kept one shirt for myself exactly
- 36:25Speaker 4: for what taylor's describing i said well it is a
- 36:27Speaker 4: good shirt to wear at the gym so i wore
- 36:29Speaker 4: it once at the gym but then i was petrified
- 36:31Speaker 4: of somebody saying hey how about the socks and what
- 36:32Speaker 4: do you think about roman anthony i'm like well i
- 36:34Speaker 4: don't this conversation yeah so i wore it once discarded
- 36:37Speaker 4: it still in my closet this is literally the shirts
- 36:39Speaker 4: that the boston red sox wear it's invaluable and i
- 36:42Speaker 4: just can't wear it to avoid that gym confrontation.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Uh in fairness to taylor he was wearing a shirt
- 36:47Speaker 1: in which he thought no one would approach him and
- 36:48Speaker 1: have a conversation a jet shirt in south florida yes
- 36:51Speaker 1: yeah right well in south florida if you're in new
- 36:54Speaker 1: york i'm like ah you're gonna get something south florida
- 36:56Speaker 1: who the hell wants to talk jets.
- 36:57Speaker 3: With you there I know, but South Florida is like
- 36:59Speaker 3: New York South.
- 37:00Speaker 4: I mean, it is.
- 37:00Speaker 1: There's a ton of Jet fans here. You go to
- 37:02Speaker 1: a Jet Dolphin game, there are more Jet fans than
- 37:04Speaker 1: Dolphin fans. As I get older, okay, I am tired
- 37:08Speaker 1: of talking to people, Adnan. I need silence, so I
- 37:12Speaker 1: don't wear any sort of conversation starter. That's why I
- 37:15Speaker 1: never wear a team jersey. I don't want someone like
- 37:17Speaker 1: you or Taylor coming up to me going, go Jays!
- 37:23Speaker 4: But I figure if it's a quick comment like that,
- 37:24Speaker 4: it's fun. I think Taylor's situation is much more egregious
- 37:27Speaker 4: because the guy literally, if Taylor had indulged him, they
- 37:30Speaker 4: would have been talking about the free safety battle. Like,
- 37:33Speaker 4: it would have been far too in-depth for anyone's interest level. Like,
- 37:36Speaker 4: you're just looking for head coach, quarterback, skill players. This
- 37:39Speaker 4: guy wanted a lot more than Taylor was willing to
- 37:40Speaker 4: give him.
- 37:41Speaker 5: And if I went back to the days I was
- 37:43Speaker 5: a Jets fan, it would just be like, hey, what
- 37:45Speaker 5: about LaRon Landry and... carry roads at safety.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Carry roads, yes. We don't need roads. Good one.
- 37:53Speaker 3: It's a tough conversation to carry.
- 37:56Speaker 1: A Jets conversation if you're not an actual Jet fan.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Taylor has his top five college football games for week one.
- 38:06Speaker 3: College football kicks off tonight, fellas.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Wow.
- 38:09Speaker 4: This is exciting.
- 38:09Speaker 5: It kicked off last week.
- 38:11Speaker 4: I mean, it did, and it did.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Now all of a sudden the Carolina game matters. A
- 38:14Speaker 3: little appetizer.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Last week, but this week's the main course. More of
- 38:18Speaker 5: an amuse-bouche.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yes.
- 38:20Speaker 1: He gets to sit back and relax because Carolina has
- 38:22Speaker 1: a bye week, and it'll be 1-0 headed into week two.
- 38:25Speaker 3: He's very excited about that.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Still in the mix. So you have your top five games.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Not a great slate.
- 38:30Speaker 3: It's really not.
- 38:31Speaker 1: You have Clemson LSU. I guess that's the big matchup
- 38:34Speaker 1: on Saturday night. But other than that, the slate, well,
- 38:37Speaker 1: we have no idea because we don't know which of
- 38:39Speaker 1: these teams can make it to a playoff. But it's
- 38:42Speaker 1: not a great slate, is it, Mikey?
- 38:43Speaker 4: I don't feel like it is.
- 38:45Speaker 5: No, it's not. It's not a great slate. What are
- 38:47Speaker 5: you guys doing in college football? College football, every week
- 38:51Speaker 5: that college football is played, it is a great slate.
- 38:56Speaker 4: It's a great week. It's not a great slate. It's
- 38:58Speaker 4: a great week, not a great slate.
- 38:59Speaker 3: It's a big difference.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Yes.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Mikey is right. Are you excited for the.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Canes and Stanford on Friday night? I'm going to ruin
- 39:07Speaker 1: his top five college football games. Let's get to your
- 39:10Speaker 1: top five college. I am excited for that. I think
- 39:12Speaker 1: Andrew Luck could pull off an upset. I don't know
- 39:14Speaker 1: why I'm making it Andrew Luck. He's the only name
- 39:16Speaker 1: I know at Stanford. Let's get to Taylor's top five
- 39:21Speaker 1: college football games for week one.
- 39:27Speaker 5: We have one OLI. Miami at Stanford.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Ah, there it is.
- 39:34Speaker 1: All the way oh upset alert I mean what do
- 39:36Speaker 1: you think.
- 39:37Speaker 5: Not upset alert this is just making this just misses
- 39:40Speaker 5: the top five just because I'm excited to see what
- 39:43Speaker 5: Miami's offense looks like with Darian Mensah coming over from
- 39:48Speaker 5: Duke and anytime the same way I feel about college
- 39:51Speaker 5: football every week that college football is played it's a
- 39:53Speaker 5: great week yeah Anytime you could watch Malachi Tony on
- 39:56Speaker 5: a football field.
- 39:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 39:57Speaker 5: I'm signing up for that.
- 39:58Speaker 4: That's a great week. Yes. They're very talented.
- 40:00Speaker 5: They're very, very good.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I don't know why I have Stanford and Andrew law
- 40:03Speaker 3: pulling off the upset.
- 40:04Speaker 5: You like Micah Ford there, running back. Was a solid
- 40:07Speaker 5: running back last week.
- 40:07Speaker 4: If you say so.
- 40:08Speaker 5: And Davis Warren.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Okay.
- 40:09Speaker 5: The former Michigan quarterback.
- 40:11Speaker 4: My guys.
- 40:12Speaker 5: One of the worst passing quarterbacks I've ever seen. Davis
- 40:15Speaker 5: Warren at Michigan. Beat Ohio State, though.
- 40:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Throwing like 132 passing yards that year. Ments is going
- 40:20Speaker 5: to be great, right?
- 40:21Speaker 1: I mean, if they turn Carson Beck into what they
- 40:23Speaker 1: turned Carson Beck into, Ments is better coming to Miami
- 40:26Speaker 1: than Beck was.
- 40:27Speaker 5: He should be. Right. If I had to do a
- 40:29Speaker 5: power ranking right now on the fly, Carson Beck, three.
- 40:34Speaker 5: Gary Mensah 2, Cam Ward 1.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I mean, they've done wonders with quarterbacks. That's all I'm saying.
- 40:39Speaker 1: And Mensah's going to be great because they've done it.
- 40:42Speaker 1: They've done it with worse.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Talent, you know?
- 40:44Speaker 5: And it's like the new formula. Like, every year Miami
- 40:46Speaker 5: has to go into the transfer portal and identify their
- 40:49Speaker 5: next quarterback. And so far, they're two for two. And
- 40:53Speaker 5: the team keeps getting better every year because you're giving
- 40:56Speaker 5: Cristobal more time to build. But number five. We have
- 41:01Speaker 5: tonight's matchup, a Thursday game, Colorado at Georgia Tech.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Wow.
- 41:07Speaker 5: Both teams with new quarterbacks. You have Julian Lewis at Colorado,
- 41:10Speaker 5: former five-star who flipped from USC. He started a few
- 41:13Speaker 5: games last year for Colorado, but it's his team now.
- 41:16Speaker 5: And Georgia Tech starting quarterback? Alberto Mendoza.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Really?
- 41:22Speaker 5: The brother of Fernando. He transfers in from Indiana.
- 41:24Speaker 4: Wow, Cignetti, let him go, huh? I mean.
- 41:27Speaker 1: That might not be the best sign for Georgia Tech.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I think it's a terrible sign for Georgia Tech. If
- 41:31Speaker 1: he was any good, he'd still be with Cignetti.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Cignetti looked at Josh Hoover at TCU and was like,
- 41:36Speaker 5: I'd much rather that kid than Alberto Mendoza. I like
- 41:39Speaker 5: Alberto Mendoza. He's Miami, yeah?
- 41:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Are we calling Alberto Mendoza this year, Taylor, your guy
- 41:46Speaker 2: that you want to watch, the guy that you want
- 41:47Speaker 2: to get in with early so that when he blows up,
- 41:51Speaker 2: he's friend of the show?
- 41:52Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Because last year, you called Fernando Mendoza.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Credit where it's due.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Yes. You did call that last year. Right. It didn't
- 41:58Speaker 4: help getting him on, though.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean.
- 42:00Speaker 5: So I actually have that sound clip, Mikey. This was
- 42:04Speaker 5: last year before the season with Mike Golick, where we are.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Me and Mike Golick were tasked with let's find our
- 42:10Speaker 5: next under the radar quarterback. This is like a June 15th.
- 42:14Speaker 5: God bless football. My quarterback from Indiana, Fernando Mendoza.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Wow.
- 42:21Speaker 5: He's a Miami guy. He went to Columbus High School.
- 42:23Speaker 4: No, he's out. 6'5, 225.
- 42:26Speaker 5: He transfers in from Cal, threw for over 3,000 yards
- 42:30Speaker 5: last season.
- 42:31Speaker 4: All right. That's a good pick.
- 42:33Speaker 5: He is interesting if he keeps opening eyes.
- 42:38Speaker 4: That's a pretty good one.
- 42:41Speaker 5: Alberto Mendoza is not my pick, though, this year.
- 42:43Speaker 4: Do you have a pick?
- 42:44Speaker 1: What is better than Golic validation, by the way?
- 42:47Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 42:48Speaker 5: I do have a pick this year for my breakout
- 42:51Speaker 5: star at quarterback.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 42:53Speaker 5: Drew Messamaker. He transfers from North Texas to Oklahoma State.
- 42:57Speaker 5: He follows his coach there. I think you'll see another
- 43:00Speaker 5: Mendoza-level bump going to the Big Ten.
- 43:03Speaker 1: All right. Let's hopefully hopefully he does. And let's hopefully
- 43:07Speaker 1: get Drew on the show. I mean, if he does,
- 43:10Speaker 1: only if he does, only if he does.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Otherwise, no interest.
- 43:15Speaker 5: My number four game this week.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 43:16Speaker 3: I had no idea where you left off.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Baylor versus Auburn. Baylor's quarterback, Florida transfer DJ Lagway.
- 43:24Speaker 4: What are we doing?
- 43:26Speaker 5: Baylor's coach Dave Aranda. He's in save his job mode
- 43:29Speaker 5: right now.
- 43:29Speaker 6: Right.
- 43:30Speaker 5: The opposite end of that spectrum. Auburn hires Alex Golish
- 43:32Speaker 5: from USF. He brings Byron Brown with him from that
- 43:35Speaker 5: Bulls team last season.
- 43:36Speaker 1: One of the interesting things in college football, Lagway was
- 43:39Speaker 1: the number one recruit in America when he came out
- 43:42Speaker 1: of high school.
- 43:42Speaker 4: Number one.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Best high school football player in the country. And he
- 43:47Speaker 1: was okay at Florida. Never met those expectations. What's interesting
- 43:50Speaker 1: is to see if he can exceed those expectations by
- 43:53Speaker 1: going somewhere else with a different coach. That's the interesting
- 43:56Speaker 1: part of the portal for me, you know?
- 43:58Speaker 5: Week one of college football has become the new preseason
- 44:00Speaker 5: in the NFL where you're like, DJ Lagway's a Baylor Bear?
- 44:03Speaker 4: Yeah, what? Wow.
- 44:09Speaker 3: All right, what's next?
- 44:10Speaker 5: My number three game of the week, SMU at Florida State.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Yep, SMU, a sneaky team. They are.
- 44:17Speaker 5: SMU is a sneaky team, but I think people are
- 44:19Speaker 5: writing off Florida State a little too soon.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Well, I think you were writing off Florida State a
- 44:24Speaker 3: little too soon, weren't you?
- 44:25Speaker 5: People were, yeah. Yeah, you were leading that. You were
- 44:27Speaker 5: leading that charge.
- 44:28Speaker 1: You said a win's a win. That Florida State win
- 44:30Speaker 1: was not a win.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Because I don't think that game against New Mexico should
- 44:34Speaker 5: have counted as a win for Florida State.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Well, what would you count it as, a loss?
- 44:39Speaker 5: A no contest.
- 44:40Speaker 3: All right, they haven't started the season yet.
- 44:42Speaker 5: But this game against SMU, Mike Norvell's laying in the coffin.
- 44:47Speaker 5: This game just determines if we're nailing the coffin.
- 44:50Speaker 1: So he's in a coffin right now, and if he
- 44:53Speaker 1: loses this game, there's going to be a nail nailed
- 44:55Speaker 1: into that coffin?
- 44:56Speaker 5: Nail in the coffin.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Is it the final nail?
- 44:57Speaker 5: And if he wins? Right. If he wins, it is
- 45:00Speaker 5: the final nail because I'm only putting one nail in
- 45:02Speaker 5: this coffin.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 45:03Speaker 5: Yep.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:04Speaker 5: It's a one-nail coffin.
- 45:05Speaker 1: So it seems like whenever he loses, that nail is
- 45:07Speaker 1: going to be nailed into the coffin.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Yep.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Okay. You don't need too many nails in a coffin.
- 45:11Speaker 5: But, Mikey, your point.
- 45:12Speaker 4: They're dead. Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 5: Mikey, if he wins, Norvell's out of the coffin.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Out of it. Got up, walked out.
- 45:22Speaker 5: So he gets out of the coffin and then just
- 45:24Speaker 5: back onto his hot seat.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Does he coach the game in the coffin?
- 45:28Speaker 5: That would be electric.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Can you imagine that? He just pops out like Dracula? Yes.
- 45:33Speaker 1: This is the game that decides whether or not we
- 45:36Speaker 1: put a nail in his coffin, and he has to
- 45:38Speaker 1: coach the game on the sidelines from the coffin.
- 45:41Speaker 5: He just pops up and he goes, I want to
- 45:43Speaker 5: beat SMU.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Is that your count, Dracula?
- 45:49Speaker 5: I want to beat the stangs.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I want to suck your blood.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Lance, I mean.
- 46:00Speaker 5: Number two.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Mikey, what are you making faces about? The coffin game
- 46:05Speaker 3: is a good idea.
- 46:05Speaker 4: We can't hear you.
- 46:08Speaker 5: It's a fantastic idea. I'm more upset that we're not
- 46:11Speaker 5: doing it.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I would like two coaches on the hot seat. They're
- 46:14Speaker 1: both coaching from coffins. And whoever wins gets to get out.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And whoever loses gets a nail.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I mean.
- 46:21Speaker 5: Does he move from the coffin to the hospital bed? Hmm.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Haven't thought it through.
- 46:27Speaker 5: Anytime I think of coaches on a hospital bed, I
- 46:31Speaker 5: think of Hugh Freeze. That one time they... That's exactly
- 46:33Speaker 5: what I was referring to. Giving the thumbs up, like,
- 46:35Speaker 5: I'm okay, guys.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 46:36Speaker 5: Okay, Hugh Freeze.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Maybe there's a scenario where, you know, it's one foot
- 46:39Speaker 1: out of the coffin and one foot still in the
- 46:41Speaker 1: coffin because we're not.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Yes, I love this idea.
- 46:44Speaker 4: The coffin game.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Number two.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:49Speaker 5: Louisville... versus Ole Miss.
- 46:51Speaker 1: A lot of people like Louisville this year Ole Miss
- 46:53Speaker 1: goes without saying they're good they're talented but a lot
- 46:56Speaker 1: of people like.
- 46:57Speaker 5: Louisville this year yeah and I just like the fact
- 46:59Speaker 5: that it's a ACC SEC battle expectations still really high
- 47:03Speaker 5: in Oxford Trinidad Chambliss probably outside of Malachi Tony Trinidad
- 47:07Speaker 5: Chambliss would probably be number two on my most explosive
- 47:10Speaker 5: players yeah in college football.
- 47:12Speaker 1: He's really exciting uh do you think the ACC will
- 47:14Speaker 1: get two teams into the playoffs It's going to be Miami.
- 47:17Speaker 1: The second team would be Louisville or SMU or Carolina.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Carolina.
- 47:21Speaker 5: Here comes Carolina.
- 47:24Speaker 3: What it up?
- 47:25Speaker 5: Spoiler, North Carolina, East Tennessee Tech next week or East
- 47:28Speaker 5: Tennessee State, whatever it is, Tennessee State. It's going to
- 47:31Speaker 5: be on my top five games of week two.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Was Belichick in a coffin in Dublin?
- 47:34Speaker 5: Yeah, he coached his way up.
- 47:36Speaker 4: He did.
- 47:37Speaker 5: He wanted to beat the frogs.
- 47:43Speaker 3: What's your best game of the weekend coming up here?
- 47:46Speaker 5: No surprise here. Clemson versus LSU. It's kind of like
- 47:50Speaker 5: the devil and the angel on your shoulder. You got
- 47:53Speaker 5: Dabo Sweeney saying, I'm not bringing in transfers. He brought
- 47:56Speaker 5: in 10 transfers this year. And 10 transfers to Dabo
- 47:59Speaker 5: Sweeney might as well be revamping your entire roster with
- 48:02Speaker 5: the transfer portal. And then you have Lane Kiffin on
- 48:04Speaker 5: the other side who... The most polarizing figure right now
- 48:07Speaker 5: in all of college football.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Yep, he'll take anyone.
- 48:11Speaker 1: What Dabo said is he wants nothing to do with
- 48:14Speaker 1: professional players.
- 48:16Speaker 3: He'll take transfers.
- 48:17Speaker 1: He won't go to the NFL and take players who
- 48:19Speaker 1: have already declared themselves for the NFL.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and Dabo Sweeney, he said, I'm going to stay
- 48:23Speaker 5: in my own lane. And then he said, no pun intended.
- 48:25Speaker 5: But Dabo, that was very clear what you were doing,
- 48:27Speaker 5: making a Lane Kiffin joke with it, right?
- 48:31Speaker 4: Is Clemson supposed to be good? I don't know.
- 48:34Speaker 5: They can't be worse. I guess they could be worse
- 48:36Speaker 5: than last year, but it's hard to see them being
- 48:39Speaker 5: that bad again.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Is Lane Kiffin in a coffin?
- 48:41Speaker 1: Does he have to? This is a must win for Lane,
- 48:45Speaker 1: is it not?
- 48:45Speaker 5: I think it is a must win.
- 48:47Speaker 1: You can't lose at home to Clemson after everything you
- 48:50Speaker 1: did to get yourself to LSU.
- 48:52Speaker 3: You can't do it.
- 48:53Speaker 4: You can't. Coffin gift.
