- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up. On this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: Joey Badass sends shots at Ray Vaughn and Daylight while
- 0:11Speaker 1: baiting Kendrick Styles. P states the difference between him and
- 0:17Speaker 1: Jim Jones lyrically, and my thoughts on a new album
- 0:23Speaker 1: from Snoop entitled is It a Crime? It's not a crime,
- 0:28Speaker 1: but it's still kind of fat. We'll talk about it.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Welcome to Jim Pop Now fat. If you from the future,
- 0:41Speaker 1: you know what you do? Show as ou sont disrespect

- 0:56Speaker 1: Vegas and this it's hip Hop Now podcast, a podcast
- 1:00Speaker 1: typically designed to keep you caught up on all things
- 1:02Speaker 1: hip hop music and culture that happened throughout the week.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Big shout out salute to the supporters right here on YouTube,
- 1:12Speaker 1: pushing to that goal of ten thousand subscribers by the
- 1:18Speaker 1: end of twenty twenty five. Right now, we are at
- 1:21Speaker 1: about eight thousand, nine hundred and fifty eight at the
- 1:27Speaker 1: time of this recording, So we need about forty people
- 1:29Speaker 1: to hit nine thousand, because I think before we get
- 1:34Speaker 1: to the end of the year, we'll definitely hit ten
- 1:37Speaker 1: thousand subscribers on this channel, which will be pretty dope
- 1:40Speaker 1: for a channel that maybe a year ago was only
- 1:44Speaker 1: at like two hundred to three hundred subscribers on YouTube.
- 1:48Speaker 1: So I appreciate everybody who's locked in, those who subscribe
- 1:55Speaker 1: on YouTube obviously, but also those who have been listening
- 1:59Speaker 1: in audio or maybe you discovered this podcast and audio
- 2:03Speaker 1: form and you don't mind watching video, check it out,
- 2:07Speaker 1: subscribe review on Apple Podcasts, and all that good stuff.
- 2:11Speaker 1: For content like this, right, a weekly hip hop news
- 2:15Speaker 1: podcast that's not just all about ditty, right, all about ditty,
- 2:21Speaker 1: all about who got arrested, who got stabbed up in prison?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Other people got that, but here we're going to talk
- 2:30Speaker 1: about the music. We're gonna talk about the culture, so
- 2:34Speaker 1: on and so forth. So if that's what you like, subscribe,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but more importantly shared with people you know enjoy this
- 2:40Speaker 1: kind of content, content like the video I did this
- 2:45Speaker 1: week for the audio files, for those who like to
- 2:48Speaker 1: have a good set of headphones, but more importantly, those
- 2:54Speaker 1: who use streaming services. And even though this isn't specific
- 2:58Speaker 1: to this, one's streaming service Spotify in particular, and it's
- 3:03Speaker 1: basically asking the question is Spotify's algorithm rumin in the
- 3:09Speaker 1: music industry? Now it says music industry, but spoiler alert
- 3:15Speaker 1: when you watch the video, I think it's more about
- 3:17Speaker 1: the listening experience for music fans, So check that out.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That was a video or reaction video to sound guys.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It's a channel I subscribe to, So check it out.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I think it's interesting and it relates right. A lot
- 3:32Speaker 1: of us use streaming services, so it's not oh, I
- 3:34Speaker 1: don't have Spotify. I'm good. No, A lot of these
- 3:38Speaker 1: services offer this very same thing. Some are better at
- 3:42Speaker 1: it than others, So check it out. They'll be a
- 3:47Speaker 1: link at the end of the video and some pop
- 3:49Speaker 1: up at some point here on this video. Big shout
- 3:54Speaker 1: out to hip hopdx dot com and Brochure for Heads
- 3:58Speaker 1: and a couple of places where I'm giving some of
- 3:59Speaker 1: my store from Let's get bring to the business thuff
- 4:05Speaker 1: so Big Sean Joey Badass and adds so put together
- 4:14Speaker 1: a freestyle video. I forget the name my bad I
- 4:18Speaker 1: forget the name of the people who do it, but
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's like a three sixty video. You know they're Ramen.
- 4:23Speaker 1: They've got a couple of dope videos out but they're
- 4:26Speaker 1: ramen and the cameras like going around in the circle.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You know, it's it's pretty dope visually. And this freestyle
- 4:35Speaker 1: was interesting because we know what Joey Badass did at
- 4:39Speaker 1: the beginning of the year calling out West Coast really,
- 4:44Speaker 1: you know, because it was very vague about it. He
- 4:47Speaker 1: tried to explain himself in this one, but I don't really
- 4:49Speaker 1: buy it. Call it buddy kind of does. We'll get
- 4:55Speaker 1: to Joey, but he kind of, he doesn't. He doesn't
- 5:00Speaker 1: touch on he addresses that freestyle and the people who
- 5:05Speaker 1: responded to him back then, most notably Ray Vaughon out
- 5:10Speaker 1: of TDE and also Daylight. You know what I'm saying,
- 5:15Speaker 1: legendary battle rapper. If you don't know to say who's Daylight?
- 5:19Speaker 1: Who is that? Trust me, I'm afraid to hear his
- 5:22Speaker 1: rebuttal to this. But those two in particular, while also
- 5:28Speaker 1: kind of still talking about Kendrick and something that came
- 5:32Speaker 1: a little bit later. But what was interesting that you
- 5:36Speaker 1: would think is, oh, Absol's right there, that's that's Kendrick's homie.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It's West Coast all day. And I think they did
- 5:44Speaker 1: a really dope routine where when it was Absol's turn
- 5:49Speaker 1: to go. He turned to Joey and he was spitting
- 5:52Speaker 1: to him, but it was like a back and forth,
- 5:54Speaker 1: like I know, but like I loved it because it
- 5:58Speaker 1: was like, this is what it's about, right, It ain't
- 6:01Speaker 1: about no beef. So Rayvon chilled with the physical threats.
- 6:06Speaker 1: He can rap, don't get it wrong, he can rap.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But what they displayed Big Sean as and especially Absol
- 6:17Speaker 1: and Joey Badass being in this together right sorry, Big
- 6:22Speaker 1: Sean is happening again. It's like the control verse, which
- 6:25Speaker 1: they kind of touch on. But I think it was
- 6:27Speaker 1: still dope because it showed some solidarity in hip hop
- 6:31Speaker 1: that y'o, we could be competitive, you know what I'm saying.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So I think it was dope in that manner. Might
- 6:37Speaker 1: have been crazy if it was Daylight Rayvaon and Joey
- 6:42Speaker 1: Badass that did it, that might have been crazy, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: Joey would have got jumped. So right off the heels
- 6:50Speaker 1: of that, Rayvon is like, here's a new is a
- 6:54Speaker 1: dis record called whole Error with the video here you go,
- 6:59Speaker 1: And I like he's pretty dope. I think his first
- 7:02Speaker 1: response when he was rhyming over the hard part six
- 7:06Speaker 1: not that Drake Trash, the one on gn X, I
- 7:12Speaker 1: thought that was fire. This one was like, Okay, this
- 7:16Speaker 1: is kind of a warm up kind of thing, But
- 7:19Speaker 1: I don't think he should have came with a warm
- 7:21Speaker 1: up when your originally was so dope. But nevertheless, Ravon
- 7:24Speaker 1: still had bars. Not too long after that, Joey drops
- 7:29Speaker 1: a joint call I think the Finals and he goes
- 7:32Speaker 1: directly at Rayvon and he breaks him down to the
- 7:37Speaker 1: organic compound, like he breaks him down right, And I
- 7:41Speaker 1: just felt like joe that was the freestyle siteher thing,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and that was the best to me, that Joey sound
- 7:51Speaker 1: lyrically out of all these back and forth stating back
- 7:54Speaker 1: to the beginning of the year, that was the best
- 7:56Speaker 1: because he was like laser focused on Rayvon. The thing
- 8:00Speaker 1: is is where Rayvaughn, a lot of people don't know him,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and they don't really know a lot about him, even
- 8:06Speaker 1: though you know the interviews are out there is the
- 8:08Speaker 1: album that came out was pretty dope or mixtape or
- 8:10Speaker 1: whatever it is, so he was able to do a
- 8:15Speaker 1: lot of flips, but it's a lot of unknown. So
- 8:18Speaker 1: I don't know if Joey badass saying what he's saying
- 8:20Speaker 1: about his relationship with TD and blah blah blah. I
- 8:23Speaker 1: don't know the strength of that, right, but it's crazy
- 8:27Speaker 1: to be disting a dude using a lot of top
- 8:30Speaker 1: dog and TDE references when you just did like a
- 8:34Speaker 1: comrade freestyle with Damn. I'm gearing to call him daylight Abs,
- 8:41Speaker 1: so stop sleeping on as sol By the way, stop it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: He could spit all right, and you see it. So
- 8:51Speaker 1: as of this recording, we haven't heard anything from Rayvaughn.
- 8:54Speaker 1: But in that same finals freestyle from Joey Badass that
- 8:59Speaker 1: this song towards Rayvon, he's still baiting Kendrick. Now this
- 9:05Speaker 1: is the thing, right, there's two sides of this. First
- 9:09Speaker 1: of all, you'll received if you're watching the video reseed
- 9:11Speaker 1: the hat in Brooklyn all day, right, So that's one, right,
- 9:15Speaker 1: And I don't like, Oh you see the shirt too.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, the real king of New York.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Everybody else is pretended, but you kind of you see
- 9:26Speaker 1: it in a way where and I hate to say this, well,
- 9:31Speaker 1: let me say this also, I'm not just from Brooklyn.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I don't just like Joey bands because it's from Brooklyn.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I like Joey Bannas like I like a lot of
- 9:38Speaker 1: his music. I checked for new album songs, even songs
- 9:42Speaker 1: that some people don't like from Joey Banns. I like.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I like him. He's dope to me, And I felt
- 9:48Speaker 1: like in January his freestyle is just so unnecessary because
- 9:54Speaker 1: nobody was asking you if if they wanted you to
- 10:01Speaker 1: battle Kendrick, like nobody. Some people care because they want
- 10:06Speaker 1: Kendrick to go down for what he did for Drake.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Some people care because they're not really into Kendrick style
- 10:11Speaker 1: of music and they're more into Joey Badass style of music.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They think that Joey Badass is more about bars than
- 10:18Speaker 1: Kendrick is. I don't know how you look at this battle.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You just didn't get a lot of what was said.
- 10:23Speaker 1: That's why I get you just didn't get a lot,
- 10:25Speaker 1: Like you have to know. It's like with battle Rack,
- 10:28Speaker 1: right like I said with Ravon, you have to know
- 10:31Speaker 1: enough about this person as a spectator for some lines
- 10:36Speaker 1: to hit. If you didn't know Drake had a questionable
- 10:40Speaker 1: history online that you could look up before AI and
- 10:44Speaker 1: all of that with the minors, then those lines might
- 10:50Speaker 1: have been like what do you mean you know what
- 10:54Speaker 1: I'm saying, the naming of his crew. You might not
- 10:57Speaker 1: even know who's baka gotta wear a case? Why is
- 10:59Speaker 1: he around? Like maybe you don't know who that is?
- 11:03Speaker 1: So in battle rap in general, you have the same thing.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You go back to jay Z and now as you
- 11:08Speaker 1: can go back to all of this, if you don't
- 11:11Speaker 1: have the context in order to hear the rhymes and
- 11:15Speaker 1: get what they're talking about when they're taking shots at
- 11:18Speaker 1: each other, it's a you're listening to a totally different situation,
- 11:21Speaker 1: a totally different battle. And one thing about Joey Badass
- 11:26Speaker 1: as a fan that made me ask this question does
- 11:30Speaker 1: Joey Badass look desperate? Is because I remember he dropped
- 11:39Speaker 1: probably my favorite, well I won't say favorite, but one
- 11:43Speaker 1: of my favorite albums of his American Badass, not too
- 11:48Speaker 1: long after The Pimp a Butterfly, and it had the
- 11:51Speaker 1: same tone as far as the concept right, which which
- 11:57Speaker 1: is where why would you dys Kendrick? But at at
- 12:02Speaker 1: that time, I was like, man, this is a really
- 12:04Speaker 1: dope album, but nobody's going to care because to Pimple
- 12:08Speaker 1: Butterflies out and it's already checking that box. But what
- 12:13Speaker 1: Joey did wasn't exactly like in the same way that
- 12:17Speaker 1: to Pimple Butterfly did like musically, to Pimple Butterflies, everything
- 12:21Speaker 1: is black music in general. It's not just hip hop,
- 12:25Speaker 1: whereas Joey's musical side for that album was hip hop.
- 12:30Speaker 1: But it's still about black lives matter, still about black
- 12:33Speaker 1: men young, you know, black men in general getting killed,
- 12:38Speaker 1: or police brutality and all of that. It had all
- 12:41Speaker 1: the same beats and it was very dope to me.
- 12:44Speaker 1: There was room for both. But when that album didn't
- 12:47Speaker 1: hit in a way it should have, then it kind
- 12:51Speaker 1: of went back to the well with what people were
- 12:54Speaker 1: familiar with and put out an album. I think it
- 12:58Speaker 1: was the Joint. I think he had one between, but
- 13:01Speaker 1: most notably the joint that was called two thousand, which
- 13:05Speaker 1: was a sequel to his nineteen ninety nine record He Got.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I think he had Diddy, think he had Diddy on
- 13:11Speaker 1: it doing it. Scared shit, Oh pardon me, family, podcast
- 13:17Speaker 1: my back. Sometimes they slip out children, but also nas like.
- 13:21Speaker 1: He had all these code signs of him lyrically, and
- 13:27Speaker 1: it still didn't pop in a way I think he
- 13:30Speaker 1: wanted it to, even though his fans were there Yold
- 13:34Speaker 1: Barnes is back, Don't Sleep with My Homie and all
- 13:38Speaker 1: of that. It felt like he was like not getting
- 13:44Speaker 1: the attention he wanted, and it felt like he has
- 13:49Speaker 1: it's time for him to have a new album out
- 13:52Speaker 1: and instead of you know, his the new singles he
- 13:56Speaker 1: put out that didn't really crack for people like that,
- 13:58Speaker 1: what's the Past Poor and Luggage or something like that.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I liked it, but a lot of people didn't like
- 14:05Speaker 1: it because it wasn't Bars, and he was doing a
- 14:07Speaker 1: lot of singing. So I think to satisfy himself and
- 14:14Speaker 1: to satisfy those fans who want him to be about Bars,
- 14:20Speaker 1: he's just decided I'm gonna just start disting because it's claid.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You know, that's what y'all want. And in a lot
- 14:27Speaker 1: of ways, he's right. This is probably the most universal
- 14:30Speaker 1: attention he's gotten on his music maybe ever. Right, it's
- 14:36Speaker 1: not saying he's not successful and he didn't have dope
- 14:38Speaker 1: albums and people don't like him. He's almost like Big Sean,
- 14:42Speaker 1: it's like damned if you actually when you look at it,
- 14:45Speaker 1: which is kind of like an underlying THINGU man, we're
- 14:48Speaker 1: gonna move on that promise, Big Sean, Joey Badass, and
- 14:56Speaker 1: I keep getting in say Daylight and as so oh
- 15:01Speaker 1: kind of have the same careers in a lot of ways.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Big Sean is probably the most successful. Then it's Joey
- 15:09Speaker 1: than his abs Soul, but they always exist in the
- 15:12Speaker 1: shadows of others, right they It's never like Joey dropped something.
- 15:19Speaker 1: He rolls above Drake or he rolls above you know,
- 15:24Speaker 1: Big Jean or Kendrick right, same thing would ab So
- 15:28Speaker 1: he doesn't even rise above his peers on the label,
- 15:33Speaker 1: right and with Big Sean, with him, even though he's
- 15:37Speaker 1: more successful. His last album, which was pretty good, was
- 15:40Speaker 1: dropped during his battle and know everybody forgot. Everybody forgot
- 15:44Speaker 1: or didn't look So I get it. I believe there's
- 15:49Speaker 1: a little bit of desperation because in a lot of ways,
- 15:55Speaker 1: this is the way he's getting people's attention, and maybe
- 15:57Speaker 1: when he drops his album there'll be more people incline
- 16:00Speaker 1: to listen to see what it sounds like, even if
- 16:02Speaker 1: they're there to hear another Distracord. It's just a way
- 16:08Speaker 1: to draw attention. I think it is desperate because I
- 16:12Speaker 1: think if you're going to ascend to a level that's
- 16:15Speaker 1: bigger than where you are. You just got to do
- 16:18Speaker 1: it with great music. Period. You can't. I mean, you
- 16:22Speaker 1: can try to find ways to market yourself, but calling
- 16:27Speaker 1: out Kendrick to possibly get ignored will probably backfire, you know.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I know he doesn't want to battle Rayvon in daylight
- 16:38Speaker 1: like they haven't. They haven't achieved the success Joey Badass
- 16:45Speaker 1: is achieved, right, even at his level, which is, you know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: not just way below Kendrick if you ask me, but
- 16:53Speaker 1: still credible. I don't think he wants to accept his position,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and in a lot of ways, I'm not mad at that,
- 16:59Speaker 1: because that's what hip hop is about, right. If Kendrick
- 17:03Speaker 1: can go on control and call everybody out and say
- 17:05Speaker 1: step your bars up, watch the party die, and so
- 17:11Speaker 1: can Joey. I just feel like this is probably one
- 17:14Speaker 1: of the most pointless battles ever, not because there's not
- 17:22Speaker 1: bars involved, but because, like, he clearly wants Kendrick to
- 17:28Speaker 1: battle him, but he's just battling the other dudes because
- 17:32Speaker 1: they're the ones who responded, but he wont Kendrick. And
- 17:37Speaker 1: I think Kendrick does not care about this, and he'll
- 17:40Speaker 1: probably address it in some small way. I just hope
- 17:43Speaker 1: it doesn't turn to another battle because on a grander scale,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I love hip hop, I love battles, but styles make fights,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and depended on the matchup, I'm not as interested in
- 17:59Speaker 1: this matchup as I would if it was somebody way
- 18:02Speaker 1: more credible, Like not that Kendrick should spend the rest
- 18:05Speaker 1: of his career battling, but if someone like eminem is
- 18:11Speaker 1: just decided I'm going for Kendrick going at his head pause.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'm interested in that one because I think lyrically and
- 18:22Speaker 1: what could be said would be more interested than what
- 18:28Speaker 1: Joey's doing right now, just or battled Daylight. You know,
- 18:33Speaker 1: no disrespect to Rayvon, but Joey battling Daylight is more
- 18:38Speaker 1: impressive to me than it would be battling Ravon, because
- 18:43Speaker 1: Ravon in the hip hop game, even though he got
- 18:46Speaker 1: some joints out, he's still unproven, he's still new with
- 18:50Speaker 1: the TDS stamp on him, not necessarily new to the game.
- 18:54Speaker 1: So we'll see where things end up. But honestly, I'm
- 18:59Speaker 1: loosely listening because I don't care. Next story, stoles P
- 19:07Speaker 1: was in an interview recently and he was talking about
- 19:12Speaker 1: very aggressively the difference between him and Jim Jones lyrically,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and he just summed it up like I'm a bar
- 19:22Speaker 1: master and I've been on tracks for such and such,
- 19:25Speaker 1: such and such and such, such and such and such.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Now talking about desperate, this should be right up. Jim
- 19:33Speaker 1: Jones alley. He's been begging anybody who would listen to
- 19:37Speaker 1: battle him. Why because it just brings more attention to
- 19:42Speaker 1: your music. Now, I will say this, honestly, he don't
- 19:47Speaker 1: need any attention on his album that he dropped at
- 19:50Speaker 1: the church front steps this year, because I like it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: I think it's dope, and I think it's one of
- 19:55Speaker 1: the best of the year. I do. But when it
- 19:59Speaker 1: comes to comparisons between him and styles P, and where
- 20:02Speaker 1: this is coming from is like I think Versus is
- 20:05Speaker 1: supposed to come back and that's a potential battle. But again,
- 20:10Speaker 1: Styles make fights unattended, and we all know Stoles P
- 20:16Speaker 1: will wipe the floor with Jim Jones, wipe the floor
- 20:20Speaker 1: with him. He is not there, not on the same
- 20:23Speaker 1: level Jim Jones. What he makes that I like, it's cool,
- 20:29Speaker 1: it sounds good, it sounds good to the beats. It's
- 20:32Speaker 1: a certain vibe, not the old Yian vibe. Well yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's kind of some of that, but you don't have
- 20:39Speaker 1: to be one to enjoy it. I think there's just
- 20:42Speaker 1: something to be said about him even if he ain't
- 20:48Speaker 1: raining it, because that's another thing, but his commitment to
- 20:54Speaker 1: what he says, right, because everything he says is a
- 20:57Speaker 1: jewel for you to grow up on. Lot of things.
- 21:00Speaker 1: You could tell this a struggle with him personally between
- 21:04Speaker 1: the streets, the church and like family and him trying
- 21:10Speaker 1: to balance all of that and it makes him dope.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And what stoles stoles Pe brings to the to a
- 21:17Speaker 1: battle is a lot of the same things that you
- 21:21Speaker 1: wouldn't think right. He got the street side of him also,
- 21:23Speaker 1: but Stout's pet catalog has a lot of conscious music
- 21:28Speaker 1: in it, so he's like street conscious, kind of like
- 21:32Speaker 1: when you know n W A s Thus kind of
- 21:34Speaker 1: got in that bad. But when it comes to technique
- 21:39Speaker 1: bar work. Never was I blown away by a Jim
- 21:45Speaker 1: Jones verse, right, never was as even as an MC.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I was like, hmm, I just think Jim Jones says
- 21:55Speaker 1: some cool ish, right, but stoles P can say the
- 22:00Speaker 1: cool ish, but he will break you down as an MC.
- 22:06Speaker 1: What he said, bar Master, he's not lying. He is
- 22:10Speaker 1: arguably the best one in the Lox. There was a
- 22:13Speaker 1: point in the time where I didn't think that I
- 22:15Speaker 1: thought a kiss was but early kiss was a monster,
- 22:20Speaker 1: and she too, she kind of still is. His current
- 22:27Speaker 1: verses do nothing for me, and I don't say anything
- 22:30Speaker 1: because it's Jadakiss. I love Jadakiss, but I don't think
- 22:34Speaker 1: Jadakiss is as hungry as it used to be. I
- 22:37Speaker 1: think stoles P is always humble. That's why he would
- 22:40Speaker 1: say this. So I'm not gonna watch your verses. Of
- 22:45Speaker 1: those two, I would accept one disrecord from Jim Jones
- 22:52Speaker 1: and one disrecord from styles P because I know what's
- 22:55Speaker 1: gonna happen. It's gonna end now. I will be surprised
- 22:58Speaker 1: if I'm like, oh, Jimmy Joy, I just don't think
- 23:02Speaker 1: it's gonna happen. So what do you think about that
- 23:07Speaker 1: hip hop heads watched this channel, they listen to this podcast.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I know the answer. But do you think Jimmy even
- 23:12Speaker 1: has a chance in a versus against stows P. Jimmy
- 23:17Speaker 1: got hits. He got a couple of hits, but stoles
- 23:23Speaker 1: P have a couple solo joints too, like one or
- 23:27Speaker 1: two of his solo joints. I don't know they matched
- 23:30Speaker 1: Jimmy in some way, so we'll see. I don't want
- 23:32Speaker 1: to see it at all, to be honest, but you
- 23:36Speaker 1: know what I'd rather see stowns versus kiss. That's a versus.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Let's get to that. Shout out to uh what's his name?
- 23:45Speaker 1: Says that lastly. So last year in my best of
- 23:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty four in my top five was Snoop and
- 24:01Speaker 1: Doctor Dre's album Missionary and No, it wasn't doggy Style,
- 24:07Speaker 1: it wasn't the chronic. It was let's just say bigger
- 24:13Speaker 1: and sound and approach and features. And I thought it
- 24:17Speaker 1: was really good, right, I thought it was really good.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I liked it a lot. And then in January, Snoop
- 24:25Speaker 1: took all that goodwill, all that momentum, and flushed it
- 24:30Speaker 1: down the toilet when he performed at We're not saying
- 24:36Speaker 1: his name on this podcast on the current president's inauguration.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Right now, I'm just gonna give y'all disclaimer, write out
- 24:47Speaker 1: the box. I don't need entertainers I like, of any form, film, music,
- 24:54Speaker 1: whatever it may be, even podcasts, who had the same
- 24:58Speaker 1: political views as myself or vote for the same person.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Now as a black Man. Sure I had better expectations
- 25:08Speaker 1: for someone like Snoop. Nelly kind of looked desperate. Ain't
- 25:12Speaker 1: gonna front Soldier Boy. He did what he did and
- 25:15Speaker 1: he ain't shy about it, So I'm not even mad
- 25:17Speaker 1: at him, and he probably who knows, he might have
- 25:19Speaker 1: voted the other way. But Snoop, on the other hand,
- 25:23Speaker 1: was kind of disappointing, you know. And I think even
- 25:27Speaker 1: though I didn't deliberately stop listening to Missionary because of that,
- 25:34Speaker 1: it just put a bad taste in my mouth. And
- 25:37Speaker 1: you know, I was like, I'll revisit it because I
- 25:39Speaker 1: liked it. So I think Brother Malcolm X said do
- 25:44Speaker 1: not look to entertainers for advice or views or leadership
- 25:51Speaker 1: on things like the world's troubles or politics or whatever.
- 25:56Speaker 1: And I believe that, and I believe that Snoop, just
- 25:59Speaker 1: like Nelly, just like Soldier Boy, did it for the money.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But when your base is on the other side, well
- 26:12Speaker 1: they start to look at it like we're not messing
- 26:14Speaker 1: with you no more. We don't trust you. But Snoop says,
- 26:21Speaker 1: is It a Crime? Which is the title of his
- 26:24Speaker 1: latest surprise album, where he's now also working with Spotify.
- 26:31Speaker 1: After having issues with the way they pay out, so
- 26:34Speaker 1: who knows. Maybe his books look different than most artists now.
- 26:38Speaker 1: But it's a surprise album from Snoop that just dropped
- 26:41Speaker 1: called Is It a Crime on Death Row Records, which
- 26:45Speaker 1: I always smile when I see that. It's twenty one
- 26:50Speaker 1: songs but only clocking in and an out, so it's
- 26:55Speaker 1: not a long album at all. It's just that some
- 26:59Speaker 1: of those songs he could have took off. I ain't
- 27:00Speaker 1: gonna friend he could have took them off. Okay, So
- 27:04Speaker 1: for those who don't know who are new here. When
- 27:06Speaker 1: I review albums, I give him three listens, right, first listen,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm just checking out what's there. Second listen, Okay, now
- 27:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna listen a little bit more deeper into the
- 27:16Speaker 1: lyrics and the concepts and the beats. And the third
- 27:20Speaker 1: listen is just to confirm my thoughts. So for those
- 27:23Speaker 1: who want to quick review, this is a good album.
- 27:29Speaker 1: This is one of Snoop's better albums, and typically he
- 27:33Speaker 1: doesn't do to back good albums in my opinion, So
- 27:39Speaker 1: then you have that. Is it best of the year? Nah?
- 27:43Speaker 1: Will it be in my top five? No, but it
- 27:49Speaker 1: could be within that section of albums that I call
- 27:53Speaker 1: the best of the year, But we have a long
- 27:55Speaker 1: way to go in twenty twenty five, so it may
- 27:58Speaker 1: fall out of that quickly. Right now, I will say
- 28:05Speaker 1: this well really quick. Features on the album include October London.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I feel like they used October London just to sound
- 28:13Speaker 1: like Marvin Gay. Like you know who is we had
- 28:15Speaker 1: on Head? We wish we had Marvin Gay October and
- 28:20Speaker 1: that's his whole purpose on death Row. So he need
- 28:23Speaker 1: to get out of there if he want to get
- 28:24Speaker 1: out of Marvin's shadow. Who else is on Head? La
- 28:28Speaker 1: Russell or is it l Russell? I don't know how
- 28:31Speaker 1: you pronounce it. Who else wis? Khelifa is on this album?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Correll is on his album? Sexy Red is on his
- 28:40Speaker 1: album I'm gonna just review that one real quick. Sexy
- 28:44Speaker 1: Red can't rap to me, like at all, Like she
- 28:48Speaker 1: can't rap. She can't rap. There's a difference between your
- 28:53Speaker 1: saying things and you're rapping, but she can't rap. Rap
- 28:56Speaker 1: is karaoke to her. It's not embedded. Everybody don't have
- 29:01Speaker 1: to be a bar king. But when you look at
- 29:04Speaker 1: somebody like low Realer, you could tell she likes to rap.
- 29:07Speaker 1: You may not like the rap, but you could tell
- 29:10Speaker 1: the way she spits it negative stallion Cardi B you
- 29:13Speaker 1: could tell they they know rap, they know how to
- 29:17Speaker 1: have that energy. Sexy Red sounds like she has trouble talking,
- 29:23Speaker 1: let alone rapping. And don't worry, it's not just about
- 29:26Speaker 1: the ladies, because that's how I feel about twenty one Savage.
- 29:30Speaker 1: He can't rap to me, So this song is trash, right,
- 29:35Speaker 1: But out of twenty one songs, skipping is cool. In general.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I feel like with this album, it starts off very strong,
- 29:46Speaker 1: very strong, like you start thinking like, oh he's oh
- 29:50Speaker 1: Snoop Snoop is back two for two, and then you
- 29:54Speaker 1: start getting a mixed bag of sounds songs because I
- 29:57Speaker 1: think the beginning tracks are more boom back soul, full
- 30:02Speaker 1: West Coast sounding like you get all those different vibes
- 30:06Speaker 1: early on that kind of set the tone for the album,
- 30:10Speaker 1: and then you start to get a lot of these
- 30:12Speaker 1: experimental kind of joints. Right, he got one joint that
- 30:16Speaker 1: I feel like, Damn, I don't have the name down
- 30:21Speaker 1: of the track, let me just look real quick. Yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's just one track that sounds like a beat that
- 30:27Speaker 1: Kendrick would have chose with the vibe that Kendrick would
- 30:30Speaker 1: have done right, like not boom Back, not West Coast,
- 30:36Speaker 1: almost kind of quirky sounding but fun. So I don't
- 30:40Speaker 1: think it's bad. I just it just threw me off
- 30:43Speaker 1: because the way the album starts, like I said, the
- 30:46Speaker 1: Sexy Red Joint is black to me, but the majority
- 30:51Speaker 1: of the music on here is pretty dope for Snoop.
- 30:55Speaker 1: And then also he addresses in a direct but indirect
- 31:01Speaker 1: hip hop way the inauguration and honestly, the bar is
- 31:07Speaker 1: really putting more emphasis on money than political position, which
- 31:14Speaker 1: what I said earlier, I think Snoop did it for
- 31:17Speaker 1: the money, and I think that bag was so big
- 31:21Speaker 1: he didn't care what people thought. To be honest, now
- 31:23Speaker 1: he cares why too late man can't keep doing that.
- 31:29Speaker 1: And then also he sort of addresses well not sort of,
- 31:33Speaker 1: he addresses what Kendrick was saying, specifically whacked out murals,
- 31:41Speaker 1: and he admits to making the wrong move. And this
- 31:45Speaker 1: is the thing with stupid Man. He he is a
- 31:51Speaker 1: walking contradiction. He will do and say things depending on
- 31:56Speaker 1: them mode, you know what I'm saying, And it's kind
- 32:00Speaker 1: of like he want to be left alone to playing
- 32:02Speaker 1: his madden and call of duty in his crib in
- 32:05Speaker 1: its downtime, but then he want to pop out and
- 32:08Speaker 1: say things and do things on the main level, Like dog,
- 32:11Speaker 1: you're famous, this is you already know. This is the
- 32:15Speaker 1: famous life. So as much as people will praise you
- 32:18Speaker 1: for things, they will also criticize you, and a lot
- 32:21Speaker 1: of times deservingly some not a lot of times. But
- 32:24Speaker 1: you know, if that's what it is, then you know
- 32:27Speaker 1: you take it whatever it may be. So is it
- 32:31Speaker 1: a crime by Snoop Dogg? If you like Snoop Dogg albums,
- 32:37Speaker 1: if you didn't like the last album, you may like
- 32:39Speaker 1: this one because it's a different vibe. It's closer to
- 32:42Speaker 1: Blue Carpet Treatment, which is the when you're talking about
- 32:48Speaker 1: Snoop albums like Doggy Start Style and there's a couple
- 32:51Speaker 1: of good ones, but blue Carpet treatment is it, And
- 32:55Speaker 1: I felt Missionary was kind of that. But I think
- 32:57Speaker 1: this is dope. It's just a mixed bag when you
- 33:00Speaker 1: get to that half waypoint if you don't like those
- 33:06Speaker 1: different styles of records that already boom back or straight
- 33:09Speaker 1: up West Coast sound. So what do you think about
