- 0:01Speaker 1: Almost got more ken on the road. You know, just
- 0:04Speaker 1: coming into a game where you where it's like, you know,
- 0:06Speaker 1: Yukon and Georgetown's kind of back, and I thought the
- 0:09Speaker 1: building walking through the tunnel today was uh just an
- 0:13Speaker 1: awesome feeling, you know with where uh, with where the
- 0:17Speaker 1: Georgetown program is and uh, you know, being able to
- 0:21Speaker 1: uh uh play a great, big game on the road
- 0:24Speaker 1: versus Georgetown when they got a real good team and
- 0:26Speaker 1: uh just uh that that kind of energized that was
- 0:30Speaker 1: coming out of that Villanova loss. That was a that
- 0:32Speaker 1: was tough for us. So you know, credit to uh,
- 0:36Speaker 1: you know what ed'stone, but also credit to our team
- 0:38Speaker 1: and credit to this man Isson winning his player in
- 0:41Speaker 1: college basketball. Uh, one of the greatest players in in
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yukon history. And uh we knew we'd get this type
- 0:47Speaker 1: of response from him today because this guy is one
- 0:49Speaker 1: of the best players in college Guest questions for Alex Kah, Yeah,
- 0:54Speaker 1: he al was coming off of that loss.
- 0:56Speaker 2: What was kind of the message coming in and just
- 0:59Speaker 2: kind of even that behind because it was a tough
- 1:02Speaker 2: loss and refocusing yourself.
- 1:04Speaker 3: In that locker room on the task today.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Yeah, doing whatever it takes to win. Coach talked a
- 1:09Speaker 4: lot about hunger, just being the hungrier team out there
- 1:11Speaker 4: offensively and defensively, and we knew that this is a
- 1:15Speaker 4: completely different Georgetown team than they are last year, and
- 1:18Speaker 4: we had to respond and really show up and just
- 1:21Speaker 4: really trying to leave that tough loss behind you, just
- 1:23Speaker 4: focusing on how talented this team is and just to
- 1:26Speaker 4: do whatever it took to win.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And you guys defensively were locked in today. But but
- 1:30Speaker 2: I don't think people know this is how physical you
- 1:33Speaker 2: guys are off the ball. Just talk about how you
- 1:36Speaker 2: were able to prevent Georgetown from getting to their landing
- 1:39Speaker 2: spots and making them feel uncomfortable on their offense.
- 1:42Speaker 4: That was a big point of emphasis heading into this game.
- 1:45Speaker 4: It's just really trying to make their catches tough. And
- 1:47Speaker 4: I mean, teams do it to us every game, so
- 1:49Speaker 4: we just decide why not do it to them. So,
- 1:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's the biggest too, It's the most physical
- 1:54Speaker 4: league in the country, and you just got to be
- 1:56Speaker 4: physical if.
- 1:56Speaker 5: You want to win on the road, especially Alex, like
- 2:00Speaker 5: coach said, you've come to so much in college. But obviously,
- 2:03Speaker 5: you know last game didn't end the way you wanted to.
- 2:05Speaker 5: How have been. How have the last few days been
- 2:07Speaker 5: for you? And I mean, were you playing with your
- 2:10Speaker 5: championship rings like coach suggested?
- 2:12Speaker 3: Or I did what coach said I did. I listened
- 2:15Speaker 3: to it completely and felt good. Right, It felt good
- 2:18Speaker 3: playing with the rings.
- 2:19Speaker 4: And I mean that was probably the lowest of lows
- 2:22Speaker 4: I've had in my Yukon career, just from you know,
- 2:24Speaker 4: I practice free goes all the time and just everything
- 2:27Speaker 4: in general.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I work my ass off and for that to happen
- 2:30Speaker 3: has sucked.
- 2:30Speaker 4: But I had to have a quick turnaround and respond
- 2:33Speaker 4: as the type of player that I am. But it's
- 2:35Speaker 4: also just credits to coach right here. I mean, he
- 2:38Speaker 4: was supportive. He was by my side the entire time
- 2:40Speaker 4: and just lifted me confidence after the game when you
- 2:44Speaker 4: text me in the morning, just making sure I was good.
- 2:46Speaker 4: And I don't think I'd be able to have the
- 2:48Speaker 4: performance that I did today if it wasn't for this
- 2:49Speaker 4: man right here.
- 2:50Speaker 5: You guys had a long embrace after the game. You
- 2:53Speaker 5: share anything I said there, that's a hug.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I'm a big hugger and I love hugs, and.
- 2:59Speaker 3: That's just someone who I am.
- 3:00Speaker 4: And I mean it just it was kind of just
- 3:03Speaker 4: like a thank you to coach just because he lived
- 3:05Speaker 4: in my spirits and the entire coaching staff, my teammates,
- 3:07Speaker 4: my mom, and my dad, they all lifted me up
- 3:09Speaker 4: after that tough loss, but he was the main one
- 3:12Speaker 4: that just really got me, got me to the confidence
- 3:15Speaker 4: level that I needed to today, and the hug was
- 3:18Speaker 4: kind of just like a huge thank you.
- 3:21Speaker 6: How much do you think physical and mental maturity played
- 3:23Speaker 6: in your victory, particularly in the secondd.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I mean we had to be we couldn't be too
- 3:28Speaker 4: high or too low just based on them going on
- 3:30Speaker 4: a rud or playing the scoreboard, and that's a lot
- 3:33Speaker 4: of mental is just making sure that we stay with it.
- 3:35Speaker 3: And they had the crowd by their side, and we
- 3:37Speaker 3: knew that they were gonna respond.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I mean, coach Coolly does a great job with their team,
- 3:40Speaker 4: so we knew that they would responded. We just had
- 3:43Speaker 4: to really make sure that we stayed locking throughout the
- 3:45Speaker 4: entire game. And physicality was one of the main points
- 3:48Speaker 4: heading into this game too, so we weren't surprised by it.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Were you surprised by their diamond late in the game.
- 3:52Speaker 6: I know how much they really showed.
- 3:54Speaker 1: That this year.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I mean we've seen a bunch of defenses already, so
- 3:59Speaker 4: you just got to go out there and play and
- 4:00Speaker 4: just read and react to what the other team's doing.
- 4:02Speaker 4: And I think they did some diamond last year too
- 4:05Speaker 4: when we played them, So it wasn't much of a surprise.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And as for.
- 4:09Speaker 6: Alex, and right after Alex the seventeen to two run to
- 4:12Speaker 6: start the second half, what was the focus coming out
- 4:14Speaker 6: of intermission?
- 4:16Speaker 4: Just set the tone, set the tone defensively, and that's
- 4:18Speaker 4: exactly what we did. And just to keep the crowd
- 4:21Speaker 4: out of it, is we want to respond to play
- 4:23Speaker 4: championship basketball as who we are as a program, and
- 4:26Speaker 4: we did that exactly, and we really just built off,
- 4:30Speaker 4: built off that run into the rest of the half.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Also, seven to ten from the field, four to six
- 4:34Speaker 1: from three point range.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Do you feel you were able to take advantage of
- 4:37Speaker 3: to the offensive? Just taking what the defense gives me.
- 4:40Speaker 4: And the big emphasis for myself and into the game
- 4:44Speaker 4: is just being more aggressive and assertive and it's my
- 4:47Speaker 4: team and I got to do that. And today today
- 4:49Speaker 4: I probably still passed up a couple of shots, but
- 4:51Speaker 4: still I just I just take what the defense gives me,
- 4:54Speaker 4: as well as trusting my teammates to have the best
- 4:56Speaker 4: teammates in the.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Country's fork alex and coaches openness. Even he called you
- 5:00Speaker 1: mother the greatest players in Yukai history.
- 5:02Speaker 3: How does that get your confidence going going forward? And
- 5:05Speaker 3: what does that mean? I mean, it's just it's unbelievable.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I mean, I haven't thought about it too much yet,
- 5:10Speaker 4: just cause I'm still playing here and wanna add.
- 5:12Speaker 3: More to history.
- 5:13Speaker 4: But that's just the greatest confidence who say you could
- 5:16Speaker 4: have as a player, And for him to be by
- 5:19Speaker 4: my side and just lifting me up, it's unbelievable. And
- 5:22Speaker 4: he's gonna continue to push me every single day in
- 5:24Speaker 4: practice and when you get to the games, he's just
- 5:26Speaker 4: uplifting everybody. And that's just what makes him the best
- 5:28Speaker 4: coach in the country.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thanks, guys, will have us go back to the locker room.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Thank you?
- 5:32Speaker 5: Question Nah alright, I mentioned him.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Wow, that's there's that's.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Kat j questions coach earlier will start right here.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Hey, coaching, it look like you are bury your coverage
- 5:44Speaker 2: on sore Brough. Couple of times you you uh sent
- 5:48Speaker 2: to double a couple of times you did not?
- 5:50Speaker 4: Was that the plan to day?
- 5:51Speaker 2: It was to make him almost think about how different
- 5:55Speaker 2: you were in his coverage.
- 5:56Speaker 1: You yeah, I mean Lessen, it's all about with him,
- 5:58Speaker 1: uh just a s bots he catches it on it
- 6:01Speaker 1: like your pre catch post defense. If it's not on point.
- 6:04Speaker 1: You know that that guy is real technical, like a
- 6:07Speaker 1: like w you know, like a the NBA VET in
- 6:12Speaker 1: terms of like ceiling and playing for position. So on
- 6:15Speaker 1: a short two day prep, you know, we just uh
- 6:18Speaker 1: you know, worked so hard on on pressuring post feeders
- 6:21Speaker 1: and just breaking the contact with him and not giving
- 6:24Speaker 1: angles into the post and then uh, you know, really
- 6:26Speaker 1: just trying to avoid uh you know, letting him get
- 6:30Speaker 1: catches in his spots. And then you know, with certain
- 6:32Speaker 1: players we trapped him. You know, with other players that
- 6:37Speaker 1: we don't physical enough to hold up, we didn't trap him.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So you know we threw a lot obviously, uh you
- 6:42Speaker 1: know at him.
- 6:43Speaker 2: In fifteen turnovers with the bulk of them being by
- 6:46Speaker 2: ball turnovers. Just speak to did was that something they
- 6:50Speaker 2: have small guard?
- 6:51Speaker 3: Was that something you thought you could take advantage of?
- 6:53Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean they had fifteen. I mean we
- 6:57Speaker 1: we're not We don't turn people over. That's why we
- 7:00Speaker 1: even so bad defensively this year. But coming out of
- 7:03Speaker 1: the Villanova game where we just basically allowed their best
- 7:06Speaker 1: players to catch the ball wherever they wanted on the court.
- 7:09Speaker 1: A huge point of emphasis for us was to not
- 7:11Speaker 1: let you know, really good or great offensive players catch
- 7:15Speaker 1: the ball, you know, cause once they catch it, you
- 7:17Speaker 1: got problems guarding MAC and guarding EPs, and guarding U
- 7:22Speaker 1: Sober and and and guarding TV. So like just you know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: make the make the catches harder. And then you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I tell you what, like Williams and you know Williams
- 7:33Speaker 1: and and PV. It is the reason why they're top
- 7:35Speaker 1: thirty in defense. I mean, those two guys are like
- 7:38Speaker 1: shut down corners. Uh. They they really disrupted a lot
- 7:41Speaker 1: of stuff that we were trying to do. And and
- 7:44Speaker 1: we're really good at half court uh execution offensive team,
- 7:48Speaker 1: but those two guys were like shut down corners out
- 7:51Speaker 1: there just blowing stuff up. They're really excellent defensive team
- 7:55Speaker 1: for her in their own right. Do you like what
- 7:58Speaker 1: Amad gave you?
- 7:59Speaker 5: And especially when he came in for Asami the first
- 8:01Speaker 5: half on both sides of the ball.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I did. I think I thought, you know, he was good.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Uh gave us a you know a little bit of
- 8:07Speaker 1: offense there some physicality on the ball. You know, I
- 8:11Speaker 1: think that you know, he takes a step towards you know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: earning time, uh, you know, in each half. And then
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, listen, Hassan is uh you know, Hassan needs
- 8:21Speaker 1: to be kind of playing in that twenty eight to
- 8:24Speaker 1: thirty minute range. And so we we need that, uh
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know, we need that from a month.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Talk about your your maturity second half. I mean you
- 8:32Speaker 6: got stuff with what you did and took uh blew
- 8:34Speaker 6: the game away.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you know we just talked about hunger.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You know, I tho the we were uh, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: there was a there wasn't a desperation to us in
- 8:44Speaker 1: the Villainova game. You know sometimes when you you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: when you w when you win eight in a row,
- 8:50Speaker 1: you forget how brutal you feel when you lose one.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And uh, you know, we forgot that feeling of uh
- 8:56Speaker 1: of of of Maui and what that felt like. And uh,
- 8:59Speaker 1: you know that feeling of losing has gotta unlicia hunger
- 9:02Speaker 1: in you uh and a desperation, uh in an urgency,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and I don't we just we played with that type
- 9:10Speaker 1: of just hunger today, Like there is no way we
- 9:12Speaker 1: were going on into this week, and I don't think
- 9:15Speaker 1: a lot of people are gonna win at Georgetown this year.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Uh So I think this really helps us in terms
- 9:21Speaker 1: of playing at the top of the league because I
- 9:24Speaker 1: I think they're gonna they're gonna hold court here a lot.
- 9:27Speaker 6: When you see your when you look back at your
- 9:29Speaker 6: Saint Bee's day, how, I mean, how have you grown?
- 9:34Speaker 1: You know? I'm nowhere uh near as emotional no matter
- 9:41Speaker 1: what you know, fake stories people write about. I'm just
- 9:47Speaker 1: gonna tell you, like I've not had uh a text
- 9:49Speaker 1: message or a phone call. I I I saw uh
- 9:53Speaker 1: president and elevator uh when we're playing Gonzaga and MSG
- 9:57Speaker 1: and uh she wished me good luck. That's the only
- 10:00Speaker 1: conversation I've had with my school president. Okay. And I
- 10:03Speaker 1: would just please with with Yukon fans like like engagement
- 10:07Speaker 1: farming media, like those people that are not legitimate, like
- 10:11Speaker 1: they're winning if you respond to what they're writing, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: like low level journalism, you know, like that, like don't
- 10:19Speaker 1: unfollow and I just please leave it with like one
- 10:24Speaker 1: or two likes and like don't engage that shit like that.
- 10:31Speaker 1: But I'm not a whole lot different you know, I
- 10:35Speaker 1: just you know, listen, you get you get better. I
- 10:37Speaker 1: think obviously, you know, when when I'm in a situation
- 10:41Speaker 1: like I'm in, you know, maybe the team's not playing well,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you feel like you're not getting you know, great whistle.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Obviously I'm an intense coach. But again, I grew up
- 10:52Speaker 1: on Big East basketball in the eighties and nineties when
- 10:54Speaker 1: that's how the men coached, Uh, And that's how the
- 10:57Speaker 1: games were played. And I grew up on mixed bo
- 11:00Speaker 1: I grew up on Lakers Celtics and Sixer Celtics, and
- 11:03Speaker 1: I grew up on that's the basketball and men competed
- 11:06Speaker 1: life for death to win games, and it was total desperation.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And that's how I coach. If if people are too
- 11:12Speaker 1: soft and not like that, I guess they could try
- 11:14Speaker 1: to cancel my style. But I don't give a shit
- 11:18Speaker 1: anything else for coach to go right ended, Yeah.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I say, uh, the coach you talked about growing up
- 11:27Speaker 4: washing datis basketball and uh the Yukon Georgetown Robin.
- 11:30Speaker 1: When you coming back, you.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Just explain a little bit more about like the energy
- 11:33Speaker 4: in the stadium today and just the energy of.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Report as well. Yeah, I mean I've come in here.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I came in here as a player. I got my
- 11:41Speaker 1: shot blocked by Morning and the and the Tombo, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: then I got destroyed by AI and just you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: grew up uh Hoya paranoia and then you know it's
- 11:53Speaker 1: one of the gre
