- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Don't tell them.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to No Dribble, the podcast where
- 0:22Speaker 2: we talk about netball, where we talk about a whole
- 0:24Speaker 2: lot of other things, like Taylor Swift.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I'm feeling twenty two today because it's in our twenty
- 0:28Speaker 4: second episode. Isn't it incredible?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Leave that?
- 0:32Speaker 1: I know.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's sad though, because it seems like one of us
- 0:34Speaker 2: has become homeless in the time that we've been recording episode,
- 0:38Speaker 2: And shockingly.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It's not the one that we thought would put.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I would have had my money on you. Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 2: surely too.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Please where are you? Oh? Thanks? You know what twenty
- 0:49Speaker 3: two does this mean?
- 0:50Speaker 5: I was about to say, do we need to think
- 0:52Speaker 5: about finding a partner and settling down and having a family?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Is that what you're doing? You're twenty two?
- 0:57Speaker 4: God lord, No, I'm forty eight.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I haven't done any of that.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Yes, we are wondering when you might grow up, Catherine.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Now it's not looking like to be anytime. Said, Look,
- 1:07Speaker 5: I'm currently in my caravan in Foster in New South
- 1:10Speaker 5: Wales with Foster with an R. I did put on
- 1:13Speaker 5: the socials that it was Foster flstr and a few
- 1:16Speaker 5: Foster locals did put me right, So it's.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Foster with an R.
- 1:19Speaker 5: I've been here for the weekend to watch my daughter
- 1:23Speaker 5: play in the rugby sevens New Southwest Championships. So it's
- 1:26Speaker 5: been a great weekend and the sun has finally come out.
- 1:29Speaker 5: We spent a little bit of time standing on the
- 1:31Speaker 5: sidelines in the rain and I was lamenting the fact
- 1:34Speaker 5: that I didn't tell my daughter to just stick to
- 1:35Speaker 5: indoor sports.
- 1:37Speaker 1: At least it's warm.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Well ish, there's a little bit of cold going on,
- 1:41Speaker 5: but no, it's been a great weekend. I have discovered
- 1:44Speaker 5: that well, when I have my kids, I didn't think
- 1:47Speaker 5: that I would be a really cool parent on the sidelines.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Won my World Cups.
- 1:51Speaker 5: I don't need to do things like gariously through them,
- 1:53Speaker 5: and largely I'm very contained on the sideline at netball.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I think a because of won word World Cups, and
- 1:58Speaker 3: also because I know that.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I need that. Twice I've been on air for I
- 2:02Speaker 4: think two minutes.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But when you've won one, you do you drop it
- 2:05Speaker 1: as much as possible. Yeah, and I will know.
- 2:09Speaker 5: I feel like we probably haven't dropped them enough when
- 2:11Speaker 5: new Cats that we won World Cups. So but then
- 2:14Speaker 5: I've discovered that I am an obnoxious sideline parent in Rugby.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Obnoxious. Now that's an interesting choice of descriptor why obnoxious?
- 2:24Speaker 5: Well, I'm very loud, and I realized very early my
- 2:27Speaker 5: daughter plays far North Coast, and I realized that I
- 2:30Speaker 5: could say, come on, everyone's sane.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Obnoxious is not what I would take from that I
- 2:38Speaker 1: was listening to.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I was listening to the conversation we had last week
- 2:42Speaker 2: Cat and there was something that we were talking about
- 2:43Speaker 2: with the diamonds and the rass and I had to
- 2:45Speaker 2: listen to it twice because you said they were far
- 2:48Speaker 2: karma and it's like, what much karma?
- 2:54Speaker 5: I heard that too, And so once I realized that
- 2:57Speaker 5: I could say that, and I got some giggles from
- 2:59Speaker 5: the parents, I couldn't stop it because I had an
- 3:01Speaker 5: audience and we all thought it was very, very funny.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And then I infected the rest of the Barons and
- 3:06Speaker 3: we were all saying it.
- 3:07Speaker 5: So but like you know, there was one point will
- 3:10Speaker 5: Evelyn was playing in a quarter final and it was
- 3:12Speaker 5: for us the opportunity to go into the top four
- 3:14Speaker 5: of the state.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And there was a great game. It was far North
- 3:18Speaker 3: Coast and Penris and.
- 3:20Speaker 4: They must have any extraordinary coach.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's a whole lot off and cs in that combo.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Yeah, but and the pay were awesome actually, and they
- 3:29Speaker 5: won and made it through. But like I was, I
- 3:32Speaker 5: was like, come on, raft, but you're handing in pocket
- 3:34Speaker 5: and I'm like, am I like, just so now it's awful.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Now correct me if I'm wrong. But Evelyn so didn't
- 3:41Speaker 1: get through to the final. Do you think there's a
- 3:43Speaker 1: part of her that threw the game because she was
- 3:45Speaker 1: a little over her.
- 3:49Speaker 5: She said to me at one point, because mum, your
- 3:51Speaker 5: voice does carry, Like yeah, I know, sorry, but yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 5: so but you know, a little funny little story.
- 3:57Speaker 3: So Matthew is the coach and our very game.
- 4:01Speaker 5: They were playing off for seventh and eighth in the state,
- 4:03Speaker 5: which is just amazing because two weeks ago we didn't
- 4:05Speaker 5: have enough players.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It's so cool and today we're playing for like and
- 4:09Speaker 3: this morning.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Yeah, like we the best we could have finished today
- 4:12Speaker 5: was fifth, The worst was eight, and we finished eight.
- 4:14Speaker 5: But in the playoff today Matthew was the coach of
- 4:18Speaker 5: one team and Matthew has played for the Warrors Eyes
- 4:21Speaker 5: and the coach of the other team was Matt Burke
- 4:24Speaker 5: has hey, he's got a daughter, and we were just going,
- 4:28Speaker 5: look it new too, like you both got these and
- 4:31Speaker 5: we were just laughing because Matthew was a forward, so
- 4:33Speaker 5: his team is really good at the hit the ball up.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Everyone plays in the forwards in sevens, you know, like
- 4:39Speaker 5: just like a dad. And then Matt Burke's team are
- 4:41Speaker 5: good at doing the hair or well, they were the
- 4:44Speaker 5: pretty but they also like they very slick in the
- 4:47Speaker 5: back line, and they were the only team who kicked
- 4:49Speaker 5: in general play. And that was funny math that I
- 4:52Speaker 5: was talking afterwards, and both of us said at the
- 4:54Speaker 5: same time, of course Burkey's team kicks, because that's exactly
- 4:57Speaker 5: how he played so well.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I thought, it's just so beautiful.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I was staying there on one side, looking across at
- 5:03Speaker 5: both of these coaches, both of whom had played for
- 5:06Speaker 5: the Warrantors.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Matt Burke obviously had a really great career with the Wallabies.
- 5:10Speaker 5: My Matthew had played Australian twenty ones and here they
- 5:14Speaker 5: are this new breed, like with this new breed of play,
- 5:17Speaker 5: which is women's rugby, and they're both coaching their girls
- 5:20Speaker 5: and super passionate and super into it, so it was
- 5:22Speaker 5: actually a really nice way to finish.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It's a good point you make though, because they probably
- 5:26Speaker 1: had girls thirteen years ago. I'm like, oh, they're not
- 5:29Speaker 1: going to play rugby and we won't get to, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: pass on our sport that we love. But it turns
- 5:34Speaker 1: out it is such a popular sport now and they've
- 5:36Speaker 1: ended up doing exactly that they would have never been
- 5:39Speaker 1: years pictured. They'd be coaching their daughter's playing round.
- 5:41Speaker 2: If you want to have a child with a successful
- 5:43Speaker 2: rugby career in Australia, pray for a girl.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, so true to And again anyway, we didn't
- 5:51Speaker 5: even care about that rugby. We just cared about this rugby.
- 5:53Speaker 5: So it was great and it was like there was
- 5:55Speaker 5: boys tournament, girl's tournament. Although I fear my son has
- 5:58Speaker 5: got the lizing cath Jean because he's here watching his
- 6:01Speaker 5: eight and he saw that there's an under eleventh team
- 6:04Speaker 5: and he's got like all weekend month?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Can I play? Month? Can I play next year?
- 6:07Speaker 5: Like yeah, yeah, we'll see if we can get you
- 6:09Speaker 5: a dispensation to play up and then in the car
- 6:12Speaker 5: he goes, do you know what, mum like, I'd like
- 6:14Speaker 5: to play for the rugby, but I just want to
- 6:16Speaker 5: play to be in a cabin with other boys.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And have God, that's hysterical.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You know one thing we have not talked about with
- 6:24Speaker 2: any degree of detail that I'm sure the Dribblers would
- 6:28Speaker 2: love to know about, is you two re enacted your
- 6:31Speaker 2: school this week during lockdown? Didn't you moved up to
- 6:33Speaker 2: Queensland together?
- 6:34Speaker 4: So yeah, do.
- 6:36Speaker 1: You know what the biggest surprise I think to everybody
- 6:38Speaker 1: was And because we were with Channel nine back then
- 6:40Speaker 1: and they had to book our accommodation and everything for this,
- 6:42Speaker 1: so we're originally gone for three four weeks. Anyway, we
- 6:47Speaker 1: didn't really know how long. We didn't know when the
- 6:49Speaker 1: lockdown was going to end. But we requested to share
- 6:53Speaker 1: a room, to share an apartment, and they rang back
- 6:57Speaker 1: and just got your email. Just want to confer you
- 7:00Speaker 1: guys want to share a room? Have I read that right?
- 7:03Speaker 6: Well?
- 7:04Speaker 1: I want a hundred percent we do, because if we're
- 7:06Speaker 1: going to be away from our families and we've got
- 7:08Speaker 1: this sudden freedom, we want to be together so we
- 7:11Speaker 1: can enjoy it.
- 7:12Speaker 4: But also there were so many rule changes then too.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It was like, God knows what's going to happen, Let's
- 7:16Speaker 2: just share a place and then they can't separate us.
- 7:18Speaker 3: So yeah, totally yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 5: But the women at Chadel nine who booked all the accommodation,
- 7:24Speaker 5: they thought we were trolling them because the Rugby League
- 7:26Speaker 5: boys don't ever want to room with anyone.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Well no, no, no, no, we need, we need to be together.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And we bought our sorority sisters we are.
- 7:34Speaker 1: We bought ourselves a big puzzle, which we thought would
- 7:36Speaker 1: be good. We could just chip away out and I
- 7:38Speaker 1: wanted to kill that thing by the time we finally
- 7:40Speaker 1: finished it.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Man, you made something really cool. Just sounds so bad.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I know, I was about to get to that. We
- 7:45Speaker 1: were absolutely flogged though. We were doing four games a week,
- 7:50Speaker 1: so we do every Saturday, Sunday, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: so we basically decided we'd have a big Thursday, like
- 7:59Speaker 1: Thursday was our night. We'd do family nights, So that
- 8:02Speaker 1: was all the commentators and the crew that had the
- 8:05Speaker 1: night off and that were all staying in this same place,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and we turned it on on a Thursday night. But
- 8:10Speaker 1: then we were you know, we were so busy. The
- 8:12Speaker 1: rest of the time we couldn't do too much, but
- 8:14Speaker 1: it was just during the days we got to go
- 8:16Speaker 1: and have coffees there.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Morning we were on your Instagram with your coffee and
- 8:20Speaker 2: your avocado toast and going to markets and things. So
- 8:23Speaker 2: this was the entire competition was moved to Queensland, wasn't it.
- 8:27Speaker 2: This was twenty twenty one, I think, and New Souplers
- 8:30Speaker 2: we had a really long lockdown.
- 8:31Speaker 1: It was twenty twenty. Oh, it was twenty twenty was
- 8:34Speaker 1: the first one. There was tween twenty was two halbs,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but the twenty twenty that was completely in Queensland. The
- 8:39Speaker 1: twenty twenty one one was a bit all over the place,
- 8:42Speaker 1: but that was the So I was away from home
- 8:44Speaker 1: for six weeks and ended up being and I think
- 8:47Speaker 1: you were similar, weren't you a little It ended.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Up being closer to ten weeks because you went home
- 8:52Speaker 5: a little bit earlier. And then they basically allowed there
- 8:54Speaker 5: to be a border bubble which allowed me to go home.
- 8:56Speaker 5: They lived near the border and I could come hit
- 8:58Speaker 5: it out. So yeah, it was And we didn't know,
- 9:01Speaker 5: remember Catherine, we were so worried about the kids being away,
- 9:04Speaker 5: from us and we rang Michael Cargrek.
- 9:07Speaker 3: It was like a really well psychologist and we're like,
- 9:11Speaker 3: well the kids be alright. He's like, yeah, they'll be fine.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Well okay, Like it was a horrible and I got
- 9:16Speaker 5: home the night before Evelyn's birthday, so it must have
- 9:19Speaker 5: been almost four years ago exact think that she turned
- 9:21Speaker 5: thirteen on Saturday.
- 9:22Speaker 3: So yeah, it was It was such a long period
- 9:25Speaker 3: of time to be.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Away from our kids.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Was it bad?
- 9:29Speaker 1: So great show with Elizabeth? Yeah it was. It was fun.
- 9:34Speaker 1: We made a shit ton of lemonade out of a
- 9:36Speaker 1: whole lot of lemons and we got dealt for that
- 9:38Speaker 1: year missing the family, couldn't see the kids for that long,
- 9:41Speaker 1: but it was good fun.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I did two weeks of hotel quarantine in New Zealand.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Did you that?
- 9:47Speaker 4: That's crazy?
- 9:48Speaker 2: And I just I don't think I realized at the time,
- 9:51Speaker 2: like how much I was shutting down.
- 9:53Speaker 4: So in the beginning it was fine. I had these
- 9:54Speaker 4: posted notes up on the wall.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I had a row of fourteen post it notes, and
- 9:57Speaker 2: every morning I'd wake up, make a coffee and then
- 9:59Speaker 2: move went across into the done. But through the course
- 10:03Speaker 2: of the two weeks, I'd ring and you know, children
- 10:05Speaker 2: sometimes a little bit unpredictable. So in the beginning they
- 10:08Speaker 2: were super excited here for me. Then I'd ring this,
- 10:09Speaker 2: someone's watching TV and I'd go, that's fine, that's fine,
- 10:12Speaker 2: no problem, And I just I was becoming less and
- 10:14Speaker 2: less connected with the outside world even in.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Just that short two weeks. And that was crazy, wasn't it.
- 10:20Speaker 1: The whole thing was nuts.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Yeah, And then twenty twenty one, remember the hub sort
- 10:23Speaker 5: of bounced around a little bit, but it ended up
- 10:24Speaker 5: back in Queenslaying.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Were the Western Australians there or were they locked in
- 10:28Speaker 2: their room by their premiere?
- 10:30Speaker 3: They were there, They were there everybody the first year.
- 10:34Speaker 1: The second year got really difficult because remember there was
- 10:37Speaker 1: kind of lockdowns happening in different places, and if you
- 10:40Speaker 1: had been somewhere where there had been a close contact,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you then had to go into isolation. So Paul bryani Akle,
- 10:46Speaker 1: the head coach of the New South Wales Swifts, had
- 10:48Speaker 1: taken her kids on parts of it. And remember she
- 10:51Speaker 1: got stuck in Adelaide because they were a close contact,
- 10:53Speaker 1: because someone was in the cafe. Then they got stuck
- 10:56Speaker 1: somewhere else. So she ended up doing an obscene amount
- 10:59Speaker 1: of hotel lockdowns with four boys. She didn't have all
- 11:03Speaker 1: of them.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I spent three of them there, I think, But it
- 11:05Speaker 3: was it was horrendous.
- 11:07Speaker 1: It was really really tough for a lot of people
- 11:09Speaker 1: that got caught in that, and she quite often had
- 11:12Speaker 1: to leave the team. The team had to go and
- 11:13Speaker 1: she got stuck places. And yeah, I mean that was
- 11:16Speaker 1: the whole thing was horrible. Anyway, let's move on from that.
- 11:18Speaker 1: We had had good time. Hey, I've got a bit
- 11:23Speaker 1: of a convension to make ladies. Oh okay, I'm not
- 11:26Speaker 1: sure if I should bring it up. But do you
- 11:29Speaker 1: think that a person's choice in music says much about?
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 11:36Speaker 2: This is it's terrible that you can't see people's CD
- 11:39Speaker 2: collections anymore.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Oh what about their Spotify playlist?
- 11:43Speaker 4: So do you look at that?
- 11:44Speaker 3: What can you can follow people on Spotify?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Can you really?
- 11:49Speaker 2: I follow enough people in enough places you don't need
- 11:53Speaker 2: to throw that.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Maybe if I was.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Dating though, that would be something I would want to do,
- 11:57Speaker 2: follow them on Spotify?
- 11:58Speaker 4: And now, what are your dirty secrets here? Mate?
- 12:00Speaker 3: Go and tell us no.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Well, the same can be said about radio stations as well,
- 12:03Speaker 1: because Lizzellis was always a Triple J listener, which I
- 12:06Speaker 1: just could never understand. I still am oh the ego,
- 12:10Speaker 1: see why.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Are you Triple J?
- 12:13Speaker 1: I don't know, just never been my thing. I even
- 12:16Speaker 1: caught myself.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Even when you were on it every week.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but I was only getting roasted by Liz and
- 12:21Speaker 1: I was just fodder she was. That was good fun. No.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But so this week I started listening to country music.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Oh what is why?
- 12:32Speaker 1: I don't know, but this is how it started. So
- 12:34Speaker 1: the Adelaide Thunderbirds posted something this year midlife christ well,
- 12:39Speaker 1: this is my thing? What is happening? But Laura Sherian
- 12:42Speaker 1: and Hannah Petty were doing they had earphones on and
- 12:45Speaker 1: they were playing country music and it was the first
- 12:47Speaker 1: one to choose the song. These are obsessed with it, right.
- 12:49Speaker 4: So it was a name that song your.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Country all country music, and I thought what am I
- 12:55Speaker 1: missing it at on? Like how did these two love
- 12:57Speaker 1: this style of music so much? So anyway, this week
- 13:00Speaker 1: I was at the gym and I thought, I'm just
- 13:01Speaker 1: going to find a country playlist and whack it on.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's really good. I'm into it. What my life at
- 13:09Speaker 1: the moment.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's saying that you're open to new experiences and influences,
- 13:12Speaker 2: and that's good. I came home the other day and
- 13:14Speaker 2: my husband had a country music channel on and it's like,
- 13:17Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 13:18Speaker 1: Is that the first time he's done that? Yeah, Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 1: we're both a little something.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, And it was just to kind of I thought
- 13:23Speaker 2: I would see. So we sat and watched it for
- 13:24Speaker 2: a while and it was It's not my taste, but
- 13:29Speaker 2: it was interesting. Liz as the representative of the entire country,
- 13:34Speaker 2: part of Australia and the world.
- 13:36Speaker 5: I'm just wondering who that person is in the studio
- 13:38Speaker 5: next to you, Carolyn, And what do you think happened
- 13:40Speaker 5: to a friend.
- 13:42Speaker 3: That's not her?
- 13:43Speaker 1: It's bizarre.
- 13:44Speaker 2: She's also got double denim on, which I'm wondering if
- 13:47Speaker 2: she's go full on country.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Double denim is a trend, please, It's called atween Canadian taxia.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Canadian taxi.
- 13:55Speaker 1: You know.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Last night, so Pete Lewis are away at the moment,
- 13:58Speaker 2: they've gone to see my in laws in Orange and
- 13:59Speaker 2: it was Dotty and I at home last night.
- 14:01Speaker 4: So we got Ramen, which we love, and we watched.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Britney Spears two thousand and two movie Crossroads.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Oh, that's a train rate, wasn't it?
- 14:09Speaker 4: It's terrible, but it was wonderful. We had such a
- 14:12Speaker 4: good time.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Anyway, she does wear double danim at one stage, so
- 14:15Speaker 2: twenty ten it was happening then, too right, that was
- 14:18Speaker 2: She's so pretty, Britney Spears.
- 14:21Speaker 5: She's beautiful and she's got a great voice. And that's
- 14:23Speaker 5: all the stuff that gets lost. Have you seen her early? Like,
- 14:26Speaker 5: there's stuff floating around on the net about like video
- 14:29Speaker 5: of her when she was really young singing and you go,
- 14:32Speaker 5: oh my god, like her voice is unbelievable, but it
- 14:36Speaker 5: just got lost in everything else, didn't it.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Well, don't if you're still a fan, don't look at
- 14:42Speaker 1: her instagram these days. Oh no, you do well, because
- 14:46Speaker 1: it's a train wreck of the highest fascinating. It is fascinatinginating.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Why do you say it's fascinating?
- 14:54Speaker 1: Well, what have a look at it? And you get
- 14:56Speaker 1: back to us next week.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I got Britney Spears report next week.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Die.
- 15:00Speaker 2: But we're all culpable in that. None of us stood
- 15:02Speaker 2: by Brittany. I feel bad about that, Brittany, and I'm sorry.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Don't pull me into that. Why do you know I
- 15:08Speaker 1: didn't stand by her?
- 15:09Speaker 4: Well, you didn't clearly you didn't. You didn't. What did
- 15:12Speaker 4: you do when her father had her prisoner?
- 15:14Speaker 1: I wrote a letter.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Since you started.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Listening to country music, if you lie about things is
- 15:22Speaker 2: a direct link going on here.
- 15:25Speaker 1: So when we come to your house, FYI in the
- 15:27Speaker 1: country will be putting some things on for you to
- 15:29Speaker 1: have a little toe tap to Elizabeth see if you're
- 15:31Speaker 1: into it.
- 15:32Speaker 3: What's your recommendation?
- 15:34Speaker 1: Well, look, I don't I don't know names of stuff,
- 15:38Speaker 1: but if I start line dancing, please pull me in. Okay,
- 15:42Speaker 1: we well, okay.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Well, actually I'm going to say my kids have discovered
- 15:45Speaker 5: a little bit of country and I like that song
- 15:47Speaker 5: Everybody in the Bar Drinking Whiskey.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Oh yeah, something that's in the popular charts too though,
- 15:54Speaker 1: that's you know, it's a crossover.
- 15:56Speaker 4: So this country album will be out.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yes, the words first before you go into the studio,
- 16:05Speaker 2: that would be my red Hot music team. You just
- 16:08Speaker 2: say some crazy, crazy shit. Hey, before we go too
- 16:12Speaker 2: far off the topic. You're in Foster with an R
- 16:14Speaker 2: which I don't understand. I always think it is it
- 16:17Speaker 2: forster spelt foster or is it foster spelt forster and
- 16:20Speaker 2: it's foster spelt forster.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I don't understand that, do you do?
- 16:23Speaker 3: You know?
- 16:23Speaker 4: Have you discovered why?
- 16:25Speaker 5: I don't know why, but I will say Foster is
- 16:28Speaker 5: full of dribblers, and and yeah, the lady at the
- 16:31Speaker 5: drac Or surf shop and actually at the at the
- 16:34Speaker 5: rugby tournament, I met quite a few dribblers and we're
- 16:36Speaker 5: all just wondering one on earth. We're all doing a
- 16:38Speaker 5: rugby tournament because our favorite spoil is nepple.
- 16:41Speaker 3: And then the answer is children. Yeah, so Foster is beautiful,
- 16:44Speaker 3: really great.
- 16:45Speaker 5: There's a great bar hick called the Wall Street Wall
- 16:47Speaker 5: Street Distillery, and they do fantastic gin cocktails.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Carolyn road Trip trimp. That does sound good.
- 16:55Speaker 1: All I'm hearing is road True.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I'm hearing is her own trimp too.
- 16:58Speaker 2: But what I wanted to do, since you have people
- 17:00Speaker 2: who were so tapped into the warratahs there, I won't
- 17:04Speaker 2: know how they can get their draw out so early.
- 17:06Speaker 2: And where is the sun Cops Supernetbull draw for twenty
- 17:08Speaker 2: twenty five? I need to block my remember last year
- 17:11Speaker 2: the chaos, well this year, in fact, it was last
- 17:14Speaker 2: last Netball year, though, wasn't it, Because this is a
- 17:16Speaker 2: brand new network year. When I booked myself at the
- 17:18Speaker 2: Bloody Comedy Store, so I couldn't even watch the Grand Final.
- 17:20Speaker 2: It's like I need down in my diary soon.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Well you saw the Grand Final location. That's exciting, exciting.
- 17:28Speaker 1: This season will be almost exactly the same as this
- 17:30Speaker 1: season in terms of dates because there's no big tournaments
- 17:34Speaker 1: that we have to start the season earlier to be
- 17:36Speaker 1: done in time. There's no common Games, no World Cup
- 17:38Speaker 1: next year, so it'll be almost carbon copy, I would imagine.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And Melbourne for the GF.
- 17:43Speaker 6: That's exciting, exciting, so yes, and the GF will be
- 17:47Speaker 6: I think it's now always the first weekend in August
- 17:51Speaker 6: when there's no clash other major Yeah, okay, it's always.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Book your flights and if inaccurate, blame Lizellas.
- 17:58Speaker 4: Don't tell them until I've booked mine.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:01Speaker 4: See, you could fly from Sydney to Melbourne at midday
- 18:05Speaker 4: or one o'clock on Saturday afternoon to go and see
- 18:08Speaker 4: a certain AFL game if you were interested in it.
- 18:10Speaker 4: For seventeen hundred dollars, one bargain.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Would see you. You didn't get a ticket, no.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And thank god as it turned out, because the last
- 18:20Speaker 1: Grand Final I went to was twenty fourteen where the
- 18:23Speaker 1: Swans got pumped by Hawthorne. I think it was Hawthorne.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They got pumped anyway, and.
- 18:29Speaker 4: They got pumped by the Cats two years ago.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Why not we don't do so well in the old g.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I've only been to one AFL Grand Final and Brisbane
- 18:37Speaker 2: won that, so that was. I don't know who they played, Collingwood,
- 18:39Speaker 2: I think a long time ago.
- 18:41Speaker 1: There you go. I don't know, but I'm glad I
- 18:44Speaker 1: didn't spend seventeen hundred dollars one way.
- 18:47Speaker 5: No, I was sitting in my career and watch the
- 18:50Speaker 5: other laptop thinking, got to hope Cox is not here.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Not feel long afternoon?
- 18:55Speaker 5: You know.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I was watching that thinking because.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Catterin we have played in these sorts of grand finals before,
- 19:00Speaker 5: and you know, by three quarter time the game's over.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what was chalking that before halftime for them?
- 19:05Speaker 1: I thought, this halftime break cannot come soon enough. Yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 1: you'd rather keep up the last five minutes of opportunity
- 19:12Speaker 1: just to get to halftime faster, yeah and address you know.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Yeah, But then when they were like losing by sixty
- 19:18Speaker 5: or something just before three quarter time, I thought the
- 19:20Speaker 5: last quarter is going to be so long, like we've
- 19:23Speaker 5: been losing grand finals before where you know nothing, you
- 19:26Speaker 5: do work, so how do you try the worst you get?
- 19:29Speaker 5: And that last quarter seems to take an eternity where
- 19:32Speaker 5: you think yourself.
- 19:33Speaker 3: People say life short, they haven't lived through this final quarter.
- 19:36Speaker 1: We're getting touch exactly. It's the longest what twenty five
- 19:39Speaker 1: minutes ever? But the first thing I did was actually
- 19:41Speaker 1: google the biggest loss in a Grand final or the
- 19:44Speaker 1: biggest margin in a Grand final, because I thought, oh
- 19:47Speaker 1: my god, is this where this is heading? And this
- 19:48Speaker 1: is going to be what the Swans are looking at.
- 19:50Speaker 1: But their biggest loss in a Grand final was in
- 19:52Speaker 1: twenty two and it was eighty one points, so they
- 19:56Speaker 1: didn't get to that, thank goodness. But yeah, still not
- 20:00Speaker 1: a day they're going to want to remember.
- 20:02Speaker 5: But here's a question for you cats, written do you
- 20:05Speaker 5: think is that their fourth Grand final loss.
- 20:08Speaker 1: In a row? Four? They've lost three, haven't they.
- 20:11Speaker 5: I think that's yeah, right, okay, So at what point
- 20:14Speaker 5: does losing those grand finals become too big a hurdle
- 20:18Speaker 5: for this group to overcome?
- 20:20Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the loss of the grand
- 20:22Speaker 1: finals so much as the margin, because I think the
- 20:25Speaker 1: smallest margin in their losses has been like fifty so
- 20:28Speaker 1: they get flogged in them. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: think it's the margin of those finals. But you're right
- 20:33Speaker 1: because they obviously, you know, let's say they make the
- 20:36Speaker 1: Grand final next year, they're going to have that who doo.
- 20:38Speaker 1: They're going to think that there's something they can't do
- 20:40Speaker 1: in grand finals.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And I mean Brisbane lost a Grand final last year,
- 20:44Speaker 2: so it is. But you're right, this is a higher quantum.
- 20:47Speaker 4: But they did.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I think that they pegged the score back somewhat in
- 20:51Speaker 2: the last quarter. Like the margin was more than fifty
- 20:53Speaker 2: points at three quarter time.
- 20:56Speaker 4: So they had pegged it back. So they still.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Maintained some degree of demism in that and determined. I
- 21:02Speaker 2: don't know, Hell, I never get a glasping extraws here.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you are.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I think like, if you pull it back in that
- 21:09Speaker 5: last quarter, you could say that, you know, Brisbote have
- 21:11Speaker 5: taken their foot off the pedal, that they could just cell.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Because it was injured. Here we've got Mad Monday to go.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I really feel for these you know that
- 21:20Speaker 2: we're going to remember these young men who are doing
- 21:23Speaker 2: their best, but they are still young people. So if
- 21:26Speaker 2: you Elizabeth Ellison cath Cox, two of the legends of
- 21:30Speaker 2: our game, were asked next week to go and talk
- 21:33Speaker 2: to the Swans and and try to send them out
- 21:37Speaker 2: of that room more likely to succeed than they went in.
- 21:40Speaker 4: What would you say to them.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'd refuse because it's too soon, Elizabeth.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Yes, I'd say, let me come back at the start
- 21:47Speaker 3: of next year. I mean, yeah, they actually do have
- 21:50Speaker 3: to go through a grieving process.
- 21:52Speaker 5: Regardless of what sport it is, what gender, what age,
- 21:56Speaker 5: there is a grieving process around losing a game like
- 21:59Speaker 5: a Grand Final, And I'm going to admit I have
- 22:03Speaker 5: to do it when I even when I coach the
- 22:04Speaker 5: end of thirteens, I have to be allowed space to
- 22:07Speaker 5: go and grave. And even this morning, when Everlyn's team
- 22:09Speaker 5: lost one game, I had to walk off by myself
- 22:11Speaker 5: and have a little moment.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Well it wasn't what I become.
- 22:14Speaker 5: But so they do need to be almost left alone
- 22:17Speaker 5: to sort of buy the rest of us and that
- 22:19Speaker 5: they no doubt they'll have support with their club, just
- 22:21Speaker 5: sort of to undergo that process of coming to terms
- 22:23Speaker 5: with that sort of loss. But I am really interested in,
- 22:27Speaker 5: like it's not a physical problem for the Swans, right
- 22:29Speaker 5: physically really saying that they yeah, and I mean this
- 22:32Speaker 5: happens across all sports, right, so there's something going on
- 22:34Speaker 5: above their shoulders that stops it. And like, I feel
- 22:39Speaker 5: like often teams get to Grand finals and feel like
- 22:42Speaker 5: they've got to win the big moments. But my philosophy
- 22:45Speaker 5: has always been around grand finals that the teams who
- 22:48Speaker 5: win are the teams who do well in the ordinary moments,
- 22:52Speaker 5: and so doing ordinary things in extraordinary moments. Right, So
- 22:55Speaker 5: to win a Grand Final, you have to have your
- 22:56Speaker 5: here to just execute your ordinary skills under extra pressure.
- 23:00Speaker 5: You don't have to take a specky in assent or
- 23:04Speaker 5: shoot a goal with you know, your ankles hanging over
- 23:07Speaker 5: the circle.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So you know, like that really famous shot of Scherrell.
- 23:10Speaker 5: At Man in that nineteen ninety nine Grand Final, it's
- 23:13Speaker 5: actually mid range, right, It's a sort of shot that
- 23:16Speaker 5: you would shoot every day of the week. And if
- 23:18Speaker 5: you look at the shot that Donald Hagen missed in
- 23:21Speaker 5: that same match, it was even a little bit closer.
- 23:23Speaker 3: So donad lof Hagen. Sadly for her in the Silver Furans,
- 23:27Speaker 3: she didn't execute.
- 23:29Speaker 5: A really ordinary skill in an extraordinary moment where Charrelle
- 23:33Speaker 5: executed a really ordinary skill in a massively extraordinary moment,
- 23:38Speaker 5: and she focused on the skill and lot the moment,
- 23:39Speaker 5: and you can see that game she turns around and
- 23:42Speaker 5: runs back to the center and pulls her undis out
- 23:44Speaker 5: of a butt. So she's just going through her regular process.
- 23:48Speaker 5: And I do wonder and I'm sure that jong Lamare
- 23:50Speaker 5: and the Swans will have lots of people to help
- 23:52Speaker 5: them with this, but sometimes teams get to be games
- 23:55Speaker 5: like that and think that it has to have to
- 23:56Speaker 5: lift their performance and really just have to focus on
- 23:59Speaker 5: the ordinary things.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I think them too, because they had been on the
- 24:02Speaker 1: top of the table the entire season, if you know,
- 24:05Speaker 1: if not second, but they had been there or thereabout.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So they went into that game with an enormous amount
- 24:10Speaker 1: of pressure on them already that they were the team
- 24:13Speaker 1: to beat all year, they should win this Grand Final.
- 24:16Speaker 1: If they were Brisbane and had come from fifth, I
- 24:19Speaker 1: think it would have been a very different Grand Final
- 24:22Speaker 1: because that's just an enormous amount of pressure already. But
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think there'll be some really uncomfortable honesty sessions that
- 24:29Speaker 1: take place, and whether the players do that independently, they
- 24:32Speaker 1: do that as a group, whatever it is, because you're
- 24:34Speaker 1: rightly's it's a it's not so much a physical thing
- 24:37Speaker 1: as it is a mental battle, and you have to
- 24:40Speaker 1: address that. You have to. You can't ignore it because
- 24:43Speaker 1: that makes it worse. You actually do have to address that.
- 24:46Speaker 1: How can we be better individually? How can we be
- 24:48Speaker 1: better as a group in those moments that you talk about.
- 24:50Speaker 1: But Liz is exactly right though in breaking it down
- 24:53Speaker 1: so it doesn't seem like it's such a scary thing.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Well, this is when we talked earlier in the season
- 24:57Speaker 2: about when you had the yips, let's go back to
- 24:59Speaker 2: the process. In fact, I think you were saying at
- 25:01Speaker 2: that stage, you need to be far karma.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, And you know, like we went through this
- 25:08Speaker 3: with the Swiss years ago. We lost like seventeen or
- 25:11Speaker 3: eighteen on the trot to the Thunderbirds.
- 25:13Speaker 5: So the games against the Thunderbirds became a massive, massive
- 25:17Speaker 5: mental thing and like we just it was almost like
- 25:22Speaker 5: I can't even remember what we did to break the cycle,
- 25:25Speaker 5: but we finally won a game in Sydney and we
- 25:29Speaker 5: didn't lose to them then for four years, right, Like
- 25:32Speaker 5: it was just.
- 25:34Speaker 3: It was just an amazing thing that they were.
- 25:36Speaker 5: It just became such a mental hurdle it stopped being
- 25:38Speaker 5: a physical hurdle.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So yeah, it's just fruscinating, is it that in sport?
- 25:42Speaker 3: What goes on a bob's shoulders?
- 25:43Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Well, unfortunately everyone every game has to have a loser.
- 25:47Speaker 2: But you know, these are individuals involved in it, and
- 25:50Speaker 2: it's just you know, you look at sport. Professional sport
- 25:53Speaker 2: is littered with young people with quite significant challenges from
- 25:59Speaker 2: things that have happened on the field and that they
- 26:01Speaker 2: have to carry with them. Anyway, good wisdom from the mothers,
- 26:06Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Anyway, no more, ifl chat, let's talk about the diamonds?
- 26:13Speaker 2: Can I ask a question though? So, Liz, you asked
- 26:15Speaker 2: me to come up with a cocktail for Wednesday night.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I did that. Yes, it was quite late in the piece.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Did you have it?
- 26:20Speaker 3: No?
- 26:20Speaker 4: I was delicious?
- 26:21Speaker 1: What was it?
- 26:22Speaker 2: It was the rose diamond again gin. If you don't
- 26:25Speaker 2: like gin, you probably won't like most of the cocktails.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I make but two parts gin, one part lemon juice
- 26:30Speaker 2: and one part sugar syrup, and shake that with a
- 26:33Speaker 2: quarter of strawberry and then pour that into a tall
- 26:35Speaker 2: glass with ice, and then top it with soda water.
- 26:38Speaker 4: It was delicious.
- 26:39Speaker 1: That sounds good. A rose diamond, so you were predicting
- 26:41Speaker 1: a draw.
- 26:42Speaker 4: No, I wanted to just have one cocktail but a
- 26:45Speaker 4: rose diamond. But it's still a diamond, but still a
- 26:48Speaker 4: rose Roses in there. Okay, Well who won?
- 26:53Speaker 1: Who won?
- 26:54Speaker 4: And who tipped the series?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Oh?
- 26:56Speaker 4: That might have been me?
- 26:57Speaker 1: Oh did you tip the diamonds? Bloody person picked?
- 27:01Speaker 4: You picked three nil clean? The I picked a two
- 27:05Speaker 4: to one and it was looking.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I was quite stressed after the second game because it's like, well,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I want to be right now for the first time,
- 27:11Speaker 2: so I.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Don't lose too. You were always going to be right,
- 27:14Speaker 1: But how good? What a response? Though? Back to a
- 27:16Speaker 1: thirteen goal margin?
- 27:18Speaker 4: Interesting was thirteen and then lost by two I think,
- 27:21Speaker 4: wasn't it? And then one by thirteen? Yeah?
- 27:23Speaker 1: But there. So their first game was a seventy pointer
- 27:26Speaker 1: was their biggest score against the England Roses, and the
- 27:29Speaker 1: final game was almost a carbon copy of score it was.
- 27:33Speaker 1: It was sixty nine, so yeah, second second higher score.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Forever never too old to enjoy that?
- 27:47Speaker 1: No, true?
- 27:48Speaker 2: And then the Roses one on the weekend against the Kiwis,
- 27:52Speaker 2: but by just one point.
- 27:53Speaker 4: So that's interesting. I will be interested to watch the
- 27:55Speaker 4: rest of that series.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I will be two because I find it really hard
- 28:00Speaker 1: to see how they keep that up. They've been away
- 28:02Speaker 1: from home now for four or five weeks. We used
- 28:06Speaker 1: to do tours capped at about three weeks because that
- 28:09Speaker 1: was about the boiling point we'd be about to kill
- 28:11Speaker 1: each other. That's a long There'll be about six weeks
- 28:14Speaker 1: before they're home. And apparently that is the England way
- 28:17Speaker 1: because if they're going to come down here and play,
- 28:18Speaker 1: obviously it's such a long way to go. You're not
- 28:20Speaker 1: going to go home and then come back and go
- 28:21Speaker 1: to New Zealand. Are you going to stay? But I
- 28:24Speaker 1: really feel like surely they're cooked, and these next two
- 28:28Speaker 1: games will be really interesting. If they can get two
- 28:30Speaker 1: wins in the next two games, I'll be very impressed
- 28:32Speaker 1: with them.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Yeah, that is impressive. You know, I actually did think
- 28:36Speaker 5: that England would probably beat New Zealand easily and did
- 28:40Speaker 5: you Yeah, I did think that. And so now I'm
- 28:44Speaker 5: sort of hoping and really excited about the fact that
- 28:46Speaker 5: the Silver Say is going to be really competitive when
- 28:48Speaker 5: they come to play the Diamonds in October.
- 28:50Speaker 3: So it's good I like it.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, they'll be warm because yeah, they're just coming straight
- 28:54Speaker 1: off this series. Whether the Australians have gone home to
- 28:56Speaker 1: have a little rest, which I think they needed, and
- 28:59Speaker 1: go to the footy and have a little bit of downtime,
- 29:02Speaker 1: they've all been down there at the Grand Final having
- 29:04Speaker 1: an absolute blast.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Nice good on them.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I say, yeah, if you can get tickets, why not.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Got seventeen hundred bucks, why not? Yes, that's exactly right.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yeah, interesting to watch that.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I read an interview with Grace Neweki during the week
- 29:20Speaker 2: and she was saying that exactly the sort of thing
- 29:23Speaker 2: you were talking about, Kat, that, you know, her reason
- 29:25Speaker 2: for signing with the Swifts, in spite of the fact
- 29:27Speaker 2: that means she mon't be able to represent her country
- 29:29Speaker 2: next year, was she really wanted to challenge herself. And
- 29:31Speaker 2: she said that she didn't think a seventh season is
- 29:34Speaker 2: it the mystics in Auckland, she didn't think a seventh
- 29:37Speaker 2: season with them was going to challenge her the way
- 29:40Speaker 2: that this change would.
- 29:41Speaker 4: She's only twenty three. That's incredible.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah, she's a baby. She must have.
- 29:47Speaker 3: She was playing when she was six. Say wait, we
- 29:50Speaker 3: all no, yeah, you know you're twelve but like it
- 29:54Speaker 3: isn't you know that is a very.
- 29:57Speaker 5: Sa Yes, yes, but I made my way back into
- 30:04Speaker 5: the team, remember so, but it is a very key
- 30:06Speaker 5: week thing to have, Like these young superstars just come
- 30:09Speaker 5: through and you know, play. I can't imagine a sixteen
- 30:12Speaker 5: year old coming and playing for the Swift Saw the Fibers,
- 30:15Speaker 5: like any of our teams, we've got these pathways that
- 30:18Speaker 5: you sort of have to progress through before you can
- 30:20Speaker 5: take the next step. So it's interesting, isn't it that
- 30:23Speaker 5: Like in New Zealand, there seems to be the ability
- 30:25Speaker 5: to sort of circumvent those pathways if you're good enough,
- 30:27Speaker 5: you're old.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Enough, can you by the pathway?
- 30:31Speaker 3: Please?
- 30:32Speaker 4: For those of us who haven't been through them?
- 30:34Speaker 5: What is the Yeah, very slightly from state to state,
- 30:38Speaker 5: but in New South Wales you play your state championship
- 30:40Speaker 5: as a junior and then there's academy program. So yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 5: there's just been a heap of games this week in
- 30:46Speaker 5: portall Quarry with academy teams from all over the state.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Right, So they're like North.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Coast Academy, Far West Academy West and Sydney Academy and
- 30:54Speaker 5: they all come together and they play and then you'll
- 30:56Speaker 5: get selected though, you know the next year or two
- 30:59Speaker 5: doll or such to go through for selections for the
- 31:01Speaker 5: new South Wales under seventeen teams. Some of them have
- 31:04Speaker 5: played in school girls teams or are playing in school
- 31:07Speaker 5: girls teams, and so there's all these little steps that
- 31:09Speaker 5: you know, you play your local club, then you play association,
- 31:12Speaker 5: then you go into academy, then you go to state
- 31:15Speaker 5: and so you said it was seventeen. Really by the
- 31:17Speaker 5: time you get to your first state team, so you
- 31:20Speaker 5: don't unless you are precociously talented, you probably you're not
- 31:24Speaker 5: going to end up playing for the Swifts when you're sixteen, really.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Unless you're Grace in Alwiki because she is a steady
- 31:29Speaker 1: there right, Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Well she's amazing precociously talented, but also physically precocious too.
- 31:36Speaker 4: You would need to be You've got to be that.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Size as a child, and that's not common, is it.
- 31:43Speaker 3: No?
- 31:43Speaker 5: And also it's just a level of maturity, right to
- 31:46Speaker 5: get into something like the intensity of super netball and
- 31:49Speaker 5: play at that level, Like she must have been amazing
- 31:52Speaker 5: at sixteen to just be able to sort of step
- 31:55Speaker 5: up to that level of intensity and old all right,
- 31:57Speaker 5: Like she's incredibly physically strong, but that mental strength has
- 32:00Speaker 5: to be there as well.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Well, this is my thing. I mean, it's in New
- 32:03Speaker 1: Zealand's best interest to let her come and play in
- 32:05Speaker 1: the best competition in the world because she's twenty three,
- 32:08Speaker 1: because she's still got room to improve. Imagine what she's
- 32:11Speaker 1: going to be like with the season of ESSN and
- 32:14Speaker 1: a coach like Brianie Akles ahead coach for a season.
- 32:17Speaker 1: By the time she goes back.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Oh, I want to know what herrand final is.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yes, those, it's the swiftest will be there.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I am not coaching summer indoor netball, which is very exciting.
- 32:29Speaker 2: We've only had two weeks of it, but I have
- 32:31Speaker 2: a the first week I had to coach because the girl,
- 32:34Speaker 2: and it is a girl's who's got one of the
- 32:36Speaker 2: one of our girls older sisters, who's thirteen, and just
- 32:39Speaker 2: this extraordinarily mature, wonderful young woman who assisted me in
- 32:42Speaker 2: coaching this year.
- 32:43Speaker 4: She's coaching the girls.
- 32:45Speaker 2: But it's indoor did you say indoor? So and it's
- 32:48Speaker 2: seven minute quarters. It's great, it's chaos. So the first
- 32:51Speaker 2: time my girls ever set foot on a netball quarter,
- 32:53Speaker 2: it was one of these indoor sports centers.
- 32:55Speaker 4: So there's sixty four sports marked out in different colors,
- 32:58Speaker 4: so you have to go.
- 33:00Speaker 2: You're where you are allowed to go is in. It's
- 33:03Speaker 2: not the light blue and it's not the dark blue.
- 33:04Speaker 2: It's the very mid blue there, so you want to
- 33:06Speaker 2: pay attention.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Edge was it was. It was a circus.
- 33:09Speaker 2: But I got to sit there because there's bleaches there,
- 33:13Speaker 2: like it's an indoor sports stadium. I got to sit
- 33:15Speaker 2: on the bleaches and have a conversation about things while
- 33:19Speaker 2: netball was going on. We've got eleven girls, so it
- 33:21Speaker 2: means that in any week. It's so if you want
- 33:23Speaker 2: a week off, no problem, We've got We've got plenty.
- 33:25Speaker 4: It's great. It's and I don't have to do anything.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I'm running the who's on how many players have we
- 33:31Speaker 2: got for the week? And who has to pay the bills?
- 33:34Speaker 2: But you know that's all I'm doing. Gosh, it's nice.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks so nice.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'm watching a Super Neple game just without it is
- 33:43Speaker 1: good fun. She says, who drinks wine now instead of it?
- 33:49Speaker 5: Was always my life's ambition and I get to do
- 33:51Speaker 5: it last time.
- 33:53Speaker 2: If you need any tips on how to do it,
- 33:55Speaker 2: I've been doing it for a while and I think
- 33:56Speaker 2: I'm quite an expert.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Now you are the expert.
- 33:59Speaker 5: But you know, the bad thing is that we're in
- 34:00Speaker 5: a chair and you've got to do postmatch presentations and
- 34:03Speaker 5: I am strictly water only. But I will say with
- 34:05Speaker 5: it with Twilight comp, it's interesting cats and that you're
- 34:08Speaker 5: going to put them in their positions because with my
- 34:10Speaker 5: team we are I'm like.
- 34:12Speaker 3: You do do it?
- 34:13Speaker 5: Ever You're like, I'm not coaching them, but they'll play
- 34:16Speaker 5: all different positions and it's a very relaxed.
- 34:19Speaker 3: That's what whatever.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I don't want it, I don't want as this is
- 34:22Speaker 1: relaxed for me. But because we're going up a division
- 34:24Speaker 1: and they're playing with the proper rules, it makes sense,
- 34:27Speaker 1: doesn't it, to just try them in positions that they're stronger.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Otherwise I think we'll probably get flogged every week. We
- 34:32Speaker 1: maybe see anyway, We'll see, But I'm excited.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But isn't that kind of good to let them get
- 34:37Speaker 2: flogged in a comp that the stakes are so low?
- 34:39Speaker 2: And this is what I've sort of you know with
- 34:41Speaker 2: this with this indoor Summer one, it's like, girls, it
- 34:44Speaker 2: doesn't matter whether we win or lose this. This is
- 34:46Speaker 2: your opportunity to try different positions. This is we're here
- 34:50Speaker 2: to have fun and have a run around.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I agree, but it is also disheartening.
- 34:54Speaker 4: It's disheartening.
- 34:55Speaker 2: What I've said is success is if we can win
- 34:58Speaker 2: as many as we lose. So and the good news
- 35:00Speaker 2: two weeks of grading, we won as many as we lost,
- 35:02Speaker 2: So that's perfect for gradings. I reckon, you don't want
- 35:04Speaker 2: you don't want to smash your gratings.
- 35:06Speaker 3: That is true, but I.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Reckon, that's probably about all we've got time for today. Oh,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I will never forget the wind beneath our wings. Ems
- 35:16Speaker 2: reminded me that we have wind beneath our wings, but
- 35:18Speaker 2: it's like, that's not something we're going to forget. I
- 35:20Speaker 2: have a voice note that we picked up on the
- 35:23Speaker 2: day of our live events.
- 35:25Speaker 1: How much slurring?
- 35:27Speaker 4: No, No, it's fine.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Apparently not everyone behaved the same way that day. But oh, okay,
- 35:33Speaker 2: as you yeap, EM's going to play it now for us.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Hi, I'm janetto Brien.
- 35:37Speaker 7: I just want to nominate my friend Colleen Featherstone for
- 35:40Speaker 7: I Went Beneath My Wings Award. She was our walking
- 35:44Speaker 7: nepp Or captain this year. And she rallied around all
- 35:46Speaker 7: of us old ones, trying to get us on the
- 35:48Speaker 7: court each week and turning the behavior down at each
- 35:51Speaker 7: break in the court when we're all got a bit
- 35:53Speaker 7: excited because of our opponents were bringing on the pressure
- 35:56Speaker 7: and yeah, giving us a hard time, and we just
- 35:59Speaker 7: wanted to wanted to take a bit of a chill
- 36:01Speaker 7: pill and enjoy while we're all out there, and that
- 36:02Speaker 7: it we're callite having a bit of fun in our
- 36:04Speaker 7: older years.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Thank you, Jeanette.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Now, Jeanette actually has a daughter who is in the Giants.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Her daughter is Aaron I believe and Jane O'Brien.
- 36:13Speaker 1: She's a Hills girl.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Well, Jeanette was over in Western Australia when I wore
- 36:17Speaker 2: my lovely hat to the game there and was signaling
- 36:20Speaker 2: to me from the Giants family and friends section across
- 36:22Speaker 2: the other side of the finger. No, no, it was
- 36:25Speaker 2: a very well you've got a remember I was one
- 36:27Speaker 2: of the few people wearing a Giant's T shirt apart
- 36:29Speaker 2: from the family and friends people, so certainly they were
- 36:32Speaker 2: very happy to see me. But thank you very much, Jeannette,
- 36:35Speaker 2: and good for you Colin. And it's interesting sort of
- 36:38Speaker 2: talking there about that. You were talking earlier on Liz
- 36:40Speaker 2: about being a bad sideline parent. You know, at least
- 36:44Speaker 2: if any time there's a bad behavior from a parent
- 36:46Speaker 2: on the side of a sporting field, it's the volunteers
- 36:49Speaker 2: who were the first line of going in to sort
- 36:51Speaker 2: it out. And it's like, I'm not saying that you
- 36:53Speaker 2: were this badly behave, but we've seen it, you know.
- 36:55Speaker 2: You see it in the news every week that some
- 36:57Speaker 2: football codes that the parents are going the bero about
- 37:00Speaker 2: what's going on on kids' sport. But you know, there
- 37:03Speaker 2: were certainly reports out of it of a large carnival
- 37:05Speaker 2: here in Western Sydney earlier on in the year that
- 37:08Speaker 2: the volunteers the ones who have to go down and
- 37:10Speaker 2: try to ask people to behave appropriately. So it's very
- 37:14Speaker 2: appropriate that we have something like the wind Beneath our
- 37:16Speaker 2: Wings that acknowledges the work of our volunteers around the country.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Keeping our great game alive at the community level.
- 37:22Speaker 2: And Colleen, you are going to be the proud recipient
- 37:24Speaker 2: of a win beneath our Wings.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Scrunchy, whoo, well done, well done.
- 37:29Speaker 2: So that brings us to the end of another fabulous episode.
- 37:32Speaker 2: We're feeling twenty two and feel and twenty The sad
- 37:36Speaker 2: thing is, you know, what's that song? Nobody likes you
- 37:38Speaker 2: when you're twenty three. Next week we're going to have
- 37:41Speaker 2: to really bring out It's not green day?
- 37:43Speaker 3: Who is it?
- 37:44Speaker 1: Twenty three?
- 37:46Speaker 3: Friend said, match of age, what's my age again?
- 37:50Speaker 5: Too?
- 37:51Speaker 4: Thank you? What's my age again?
- 37:52Speaker 6: So?
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yes, So next week is nobody likes us when you're
- 37:54Speaker 2: twenty three, which is something that I took great delight
- 37:57Speaker 2: when my two step daughters both turned twenty three, that
- 37:59Speaker 2: after Happy Birthday we would sing.
- 38:00Speaker 4: That to then.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I love it.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Oh yes, But this week.
- 38:06Speaker 4: It's school holidays. Stay safe out there, let's stay sane
- 38:10Speaker 4: out there, let's, you know, keep up our get some sunshine,
- 38:14Speaker 4: get some exercise every day because it's two tough weeks
- 38:16Speaker 4: for us everybody, but we will get through it. We
- 38:18Speaker 4: always do.
- 38:19Speaker 1: We will survive. I'm off to practice my lying dancing.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Everybody sounded like lie in dancing.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Isn't it. I'm Carolyn Swindell and I've had a wonderful
- 38:29Speaker 4: time and I am joined.
- 38:30Speaker 1: As always by Cathcock Turtles everybody.
- 38:33Speaker 3: And Lizzella singer Caravan.
- 38:35Speaker 4: Have a great week. Everybody to take care fie
