- 0:16Speaker 1: perfect balanced cocktail every time.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Go get some today.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Philip, I'm the trains of the feel all right.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Feel down the weather.
- 0:29Speaker 5: Feel alright.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Well.
- 0:31Speaker 6: Here he is, ladies and gentlemen. He is the Viceroy
- 0:33Speaker 6: of the vineyard. He was the owner, the proprietor of
- 0:39Speaker 6: Wine Academy of Utah, Wine Academy of Utah dot com.
- 0:43Speaker 6: It's James GM middle name Philip, James Phillips and Dangelo.
- 0:47Speaker 3: That's right here he is with some canned.
- 0:49Speaker 7: Cock he brought to one of my wife's favorites.
- 0:52Speaker 8: Oh nice, ah, Yeah, Sugarhouse Distilling. They're ready to drink.
- 0:56Speaker 8: Artdis canned cocktails are awesome. I'llcohol in here. They're a
- 1:01Speaker 8: twelve ounce cann or through fifty five mili about ten
- 1:04Speaker 8: percent alcohol by volume. We are featuring the white peach.
- 1:09Speaker 8: I just love the aromatics on this. I mean, I
- 1:11Speaker 8: can smell this all day. It's so fresh and it's
- 1:15Speaker 8: not sweet on the palette at all. It's nice and dry.
- 1:18Speaker 8: Peach really comes through nice, great balance to the drink, carbonated,
- 1:23Speaker 8: good acidity throughout. And you know what I like about
- 1:27Speaker 8: these canned cocktails. Although they are single servings, they're super
- 1:30Speaker 8: easy to share. I mean we're just straight up, we're
- 1:33Speaker 8: sharing them right now. And it tastes like peach, Yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 8: it totally does. And it's not medicinal. It doesn't have
- 1:41Speaker 8: like that candied kind of a thing.
- 1:44Speaker 3: They have a whole load of cocktails.
- 1:47Speaker 8: Available not only in your wine stores, but at their
- 1:50Speaker 8: package store.
- 1:51Speaker 3: And I have the address here.
- 1:53Speaker 8: It's up up up twenty to twelve Southwest Temple. That's
- 1:57Speaker 8: where the distillery is located, sore south West Temple and
- 2:02Speaker 8: they're an industrial park there and they have a package
- 2:05Speaker 8: store in the front and all these are in the cooler,
- 2:07Speaker 8: so they're ready to go for you. And it's fun
- 2:10Speaker 8: talking to the guys who distill this stuff. I mean
- 2:12Speaker 8: they're right there on site. We do have another one.
- 2:15Speaker 8: We have three to feature. The White Peach is the first.
- 2:17Speaker 3: One that we were mentioning. This is the Bright Citrus.
- 2:20Speaker 8: This is a vodka based one, so you're gonna have
- 2:23Speaker 8: a lot more. Anybody got an extra building, you're empty,
- 2:28Speaker 8: you're empty, Make mine a dough you can count on
- 2:33Speaker 8: count So this one, okay, this is that. And I
- 2:39Speaker 8: mean this is the most positive way smarty tardy. This
- 2:42Speaker 8: has got that. Yeah, this has got that kind of
- 2:46Speaker 8: aromatic in there. It's vodka based, so this is something
- 2:50Speaker 8: in gene if you just want to smell it.
- 2:52Speaker 3: This is something that yeah, takes like a candy. So
- 2:56Speaker 3: this one's a.
- 2:56Speaker 8: Bit more candied, but a lot of fun. I like
- 3:00Speaker 8: these daytime sun the sun's on your face. Definitely crushable
- 3:06Speaker 8: and that's a technical term. And this is and this
- 3:10Speaker 8: is part of their signature cocktail series and this is
- 3:14Speaker 8: called the Bright Citrus. And this anything about this, all
- 3:17Speaker 8: the booze that goes in here. They're distilling their making,
- 3:20Speaker 8: so they're not outsourcing even the ingredients there as natural
- 3:23Speaker 8: as they can get. They're making the formulas in house.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Uh.
- 3:27Speaker 8: This is a real taste to Utah Sugarhouse distilling grained
- 3:31Speaker 8: to glass.
- 3:32Speaker 6: What those candieswet sweet tarts, is that what they want
- 3:35Speaker 6: kind of yeah, or or it's also Smarties Smarties.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah like that.
- 3:40Speaker 7: But that's that's delicious stuff.
- 3:43Speaker 8: So the next one, and I was like, hey, what's that.
- 3:47Speaker 8: I thought it was a new product when I was at.
- 3:48Speaker 7: This because I've had this.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Yeah, this is new packaging. Look at how cool this is,
- 3:53Speaker 3: this beautiful red.
- 3:55Speaker 8: This is the raspberry Lemonade vodka, part of their signature
- 3:58Speaker 8: series Curf Cold Good Alcohol in their ten percent alcohol
- 4:02Speaker 8: by volume brand new ones. So make note of seeing
- 4:05Speaker 8: this one in the store as well.
- 4:07Speaker 2: That'd be good for Valentine's Day.
- 4:09Speaker 3: There you go.
- 4:10Speaker 9: That's that's that's more more of a darker red this
- 4:14Speaker 9: time around for the packaging. For the packaging, Yeah, because
- 4:17Speaker 9: I have some of the old packaging in my fridge
- 4:19Speaker 9: at home.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Okay, and it's.
- 4:21Speaker 7: It's a slightly different color.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that raspberry really comes through nice. Yeah mmm. I
- 4:29Speaker 3: don't know what anybody else is doing this Friday morning,
- 4:31Speaker 3: but my goodness, this is.
- 4:36Speaker 8: So we have the white peach, We've got the bright
- 4:39Speaker 8: citrus and the raspberry vodka lemonade. They make other Gang products,
- 4:45Speaker 8: but these are just so fun. Great difference in just
- 4:50Speaker 8: like the presentation, you know, the different color of the
- 4:53Speaker 8: packaging and everything.
- 4:54Speaker 3: But how easy is it is?
- 4:56Speaker 8: Grab a four pack and you're good to go, or
- 4:58Speaker 8: a couple series for the party.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes you want to mix a cocktail, but sometimes
- 5:04Speaker 1: you just want I want it right now.
- 5:06Speaker 7: I want a cocktail right now.
- 5:07Speaker 8: If you have a house full of people, the last
- 5:09Speaker 8: thing you want to do is, like you know, making
- 5:12Speaker 8: three to nine drinks that are different and you're trying
- 5:16Speaker 8: to host and everything. It just takes all the worry
- 5:19Speaker 8: out of it. And they're quick chilling exactly.
- 5:21Speaker 9: Whenever we do dinner or a party at our house,
- 5:24Speaker 9: I always grab a handful of these. Nice they're just
- 5:26Speaker 9: handy to Yeah. No, Sugarhouse does such a great job.
- 5:29Speaker 9: They do, and they and we were just talking about
- 5:32Speaker 9: this the other day. We had a group in and
- 5:33Speaker 9: we were doing our Whiskey and history presentation. Sugarhouse is
- 5:36Speaker 9: part of it, and I mentioned to people, I'm like,
- 5:38Speaker 9: we've all gone out to dinner. We've heard of farm
- 5:41Speaker 9: to table, that implication where you know, the farmers walk
- 5:44Speaker 9: through the fields and seize the vegetables and the protus
- 5:47Speaker 9: and everything, and this is grained glass, meaning the same thing.
- 5:52Speaker 9: James Fowler in his team, they've walked these grain fields.
- 5:56Speaker 9: They know the malting process, in the drying, the process,
- 6:00Speaker 9: and then it's it's brought right in and it's that
- 6:03Speaker 9: Utah all feel.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Do they can it there as well?
- 6:07Speaker 8: Yeah, they have a brand new canning line and they've
- 6:10Speaker 8: even expanded there.
- 6:12Speaker 3: The distilleries growing and well deserved.
- 6:15Speaker 6: I don't think I've been there since they started, and
- 6:17Speaker 6: it was it was very small right at the beginning.
- 6:20Speaker 3: We should go, We should go to take a look
- 6:22Speaker 3: at their barrel room is impressive.
- 6:27Speaker 8: And they've got the front lobby area that's the package
- 6:30Speaker 8: store rather not lobby, just the package store, and then
- 6:33Speaker 8: you go in the back and you're in the body
- 6:34Speaker 8: of it.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I just love looking at the stills and you know, thinking.
- 6:38Speaker 8: Through how it all works. And they'll take you on
- 6:40Speaker 8: a tour. And they've expanded to a new canning line and.
- 6:44Speaker 9: They got the raspberry whiskey sour which is also and
- 6:47Speaker 9: the pineapple coconut. Just pull out one of those tiki
- 6:49Speaker 9: glasses and take credit for it.
- 6:52Speaker 6: You know.
- 6:53Speaker 8: I like those are like a little not hidden secret,
- 6:58Speaker 8: but like when I want to spoil my sell or
- 7:00Speaker 8: something like, yeah, a little treat, something that a little
- 7:04Speaker 8: treat those are tasty.
- 7:05Speaker 3: The pineapple coconut. Here's a question. I seem to remember.
- 7:10Speaker 6: Uh, it was not legal, and then they had they
- 7:13Speaker 6: tweaked the law or something so that these could be
- 7:16Speaker 6: You could go into a bar or a club and
- 7:20Speaker 6: order a canned cocktail. That's right, So you can do that.
- 7:24Speaker 8: Yes, that is now available in stares at bars and restaurants.
- 7:29Speaker 3: The canned cocktail ready to drink.
- 7:31Speaker 8: Before it was indicated as a distiller because there was
- 7:34Speaker 8: alcohol in here. So since that was the case, you
- 7:36Speaker 8: had to pour it into a jigger one point five ounce,
- 7:39Speaker 8: which was ridiculous.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But now we're changing.
- 7:41Speaker 7: This is why he.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Knows all Maybe Well, we're back with the Wizard of Wine,
- 7:48Speaker 5: kim Me Santangelo James Phillips Santangelo, the proprietor of the
- 7:54Speaker 5: Wine Academy of Utah Wine Academy of Utah dot com.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Uh, questions were Jimmy, we do have some people on
- 8:01Speaker 6: the phone. Yeah, we will start with Andrea. Andrea, good morning,
- 8:06Speaker 6: how are you today?
- 8:08Speaker 3: Good morning?
- 8:08Speaker 2: I am well, thank you?
- 8:10Speaker 3: What's up? What do you want to know?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Well, first, Jimmy, you are one of the best parts
- 8:15Speaker 4: of my Friday morning, So thank you You're welcome.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Thank you for listening.
- 8:20Speaker 4: My question, perhaps you already answered it, is where can
- 8:23Speaker 4: I get those fabulous cocktails? Do I have to go
- 8:25Speaker 4: to the distillery? Can I get it at a local.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Liquor store or a local grocery?
- 8:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:32Speaker 8: So they are available through the local wine in liquor
- 8:35Speaker 8: stores and not in the groceries. They're a little higher
- 8:39Speaker 8: in alcohol, so we sell them all through the wine stores,
- 8:42Speaker 8: or you can go to the distillery. Nice thing about
- 8:45Speaker 8: the distillery is they have their own operating hours, so
- 8:49Speaker 8: sometimes they'll be open on a.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Monday that's a holiday and things of that nature. They're
- 8:52Speaker 3: open on Sunday. I think, excuse.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Me, are there wine and liquor stores in Utah County?
- 8:59Speaker 4: I'm in Pleasant Groo.
- 9:00Speaker 8: Yeah, there's one right in Pleasant Grove at your big
- 9:05Speaker 8: fancy new intersection off the highway there where all the roads.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Come in together.
- 9:10Speaker 8: There's a great wine store right there, and these should
- 9:14Speaker 8: be listed there.
- 9:14Speaker 3: So for sure.
- 9:15Speaker 7: Is there a website for the liquor store?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, well there's an app.
- 9:20Speaker 3: There's the app ABC dot Utah dot gov.
- 9:23Speaker 10: ABC dot Utah dot gov. There you can find a
- 9:25Speaker 10: location near you. And yeah, they carry most of these.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Nope, absolutely, thanks, good luck with it, Jerry Weekend.
- 9:32Speaker 7: Thanks get them for super Bowl. Let's see Brandy is here?
- 9:36Speaker 4: Hello Brandy, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, good morning. I just
- 9:42Speaker 4: I didn't have a question for Jimmy. I just wanted
- 9:44Speaker 4: to kind of praise him. I was at an home
- 9:47Speaker 4: event on Sunday that he did.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Ay Brandy, Hello, Jimmy are you?
- 9:54Speaker 3: Oh you guys hit it off?
- 9:55Speaker 7: Hell?
- 9:56Speaker 3: No, she's great. Did you enjoy it? That was a
- 9:58Speaker 3: fun tasting, wasn't it.
- 10:00Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 10:00Speaker 4: It was really fun. And I'm not a wine drinker,
- 10:02Speaker 4: but I feel like you've given me enough of appreciation
- 10:06Speaker 4: that I might explore it a little bit more.
- 10:09Speaker 7: I hear that all the time.
- 10:10Speaker 10: I'm not a wine drinker, but yeah, they meet Jimmy
- 10:13Speaker 10: and yeah, changes you know.
- 10:15Speaker 8: I'm like the pike piper with the grape.
- 10:19Speaker 4: That's true. And anyway, I just want to recommend if
- 10:22Speaker 4: anybody ever gets a chance to do it, do it
- 10:25Speaker 4: because he's so much fun, Like, yeah, you know, he
- 10:27Speaker 4: can be a little not safe for work at those
- 10:30Speaker 4: kind of things, so even more so than he is
- 10:32Speaker 4: on the radio.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Were you, Brandy? Were you?
- 10:35Speaker 6: And this is something that somebody else held and you
- 10:38Speaker 6: were invited to.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Yes, yes, that's correct.
- 10:43Speaker 2: If you want to book one of those, how do
- 10:44Speaker 2: they do it?
- 10:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:45Speaker 8: So with Brandy and I, what she attended was the
- 10:48Speaker 8: in home Wine event. You can go to Winkee Utah
- 10:51Speaker 8: dot com and we have a theme. We have a
- 10:53Speaker 8: website of themes of packages that you can choose from,
- 10:57Speaker 8: such as Splash of Spain to Revividly Californa Coastline, to
- 11:00Speaker 8: name a few, and it's five wines. I brief all
- 11:04Speaker 8: the tasting glasses, pretty collateral, and you have a somalia
- 11:09Speaker 8: in the comfort of your own home.
- 11:11Speaker 3: There you go.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Now do you suggest things for the host to prepare?
- 11:16Speaker 8: Yeah, so it's as simple as you can have chopped apples,
- 11:20Speaker 8: salted almonds, some sharp treaded cheese.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But the host will.
- 11:24Speaker 8: Have something afterwards and in this and that and or
- 11:27Speaker 8: I've even been able to, for example, I have the
- 11:30Speaker 8: French Countryside up in Park City this Saturday, and we're
- 11:34Speaker 8: the hosts going to do more of a coursed out menu, so.
- 11:38Speaker 3: That's more deliberate with pairing.
- 11:40Speaker 8: They'll be sat at a large table and I'll be
- 11:43Speaker 8: serving them table side.
- 11:45Speaker 3: What did they do, Brandy, what did they do? At
- 11:48Speaker 3: the event you were at.
- 11:51Speaker 4: They did the apples, cheese and almonds, and then our
- 11:55Speaker 4: host mixed Cincinnati chili. Is that what it was?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, one of the best ones. I'll tell you that.
- 12:01Speaker 3: There you go, she knocked out.
- 12:03Speaker 9: Thanks Brandy, thank you, thank you.
- 12:06Speaker 10: All right, here's a text question, Jimmy, are there any
- 12:09Speaker 10: canned cocktails that use sugar free mixes?
- 12:14Speaker 8: Not that I'm aware, but a lot of them do
- 12:16Speaker 8: lower the sugar content and others add some. So so
- 12:23Speaker 8: I hear what you're saying. There is one can't cocktail.
- 12:25Speaker 8: I'm not going to call them out. It's a national brand,
- 12:28Speaker 8: but they are sweet. It's a Moscow mule and yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 8: and that really has some rich flavor to it. But
- 12:38Speaker 8: I hear what you're saying these I don't know the
- 12:41Speaker 8: sugar content in these, but it is a good question
- 12:44Speaker 8: to ask.
- 12:44Speaker 7: And so maybe go down to the distiller.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Go down to the siller exactly.
- 12:49Speaker 8: And you know, even when you make your own cocktails
- 12:52Speaker 8: using simple syrup and things like that, so it's nice
- 12:54Speaker 8: that you can adjust that, say agave syrup or honey
- 12:57Speaker 8: syrup or honeywater or.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Something like that.
- 13:00Speaker 6: And James would James, he'd be yeah, full disclosure.
- 13:06Speaker 3: So I got to tell you, and I know there
- 13:07Speaker 3: might be we can do a fasting.
- 13:08Speaker 8: But guess who I met, Doctor Neil.
- 13:12Speaker 10: He lives, he does, and he's the next he's in
- 13:16Speaker 10: the chat room right now talking about you.
- 13:18Speaker 3: He's a great guys.
- 13:19Speaker 7: Talking about the event you went to.
- 13:21Speaker 8: Event was a lot of fun and we have some
- 13:23Speaker 8: young listeners out there. Tests and Tyler. I like to
- 13:26Speaker 8: give a shout out to test. She was great and
- 13:28Speaker 8: her folks very. You know they're thirsty up in Laighton.
- 13:35Speaker 8: It was a good wine tasting event. Wine for lover.
- 13:37Speaker 10: Let's see last week Jimmy mentioned a bottle of wine
- 13:40Speaker 10: with steak and fries. I made it Saturday night. It
- 13:42Speaker 10: made my heart happy. Thank you, jim nice.
- 13:45Speaker 7: What was the raspberry canned cocktail? I missed it?
- 13:48Speaker 3: Sugar House, Sugarhouse Raspberry brand, new packaging.
- 13:51Speaker 10: So pick up go to your liquor store and pick
- 13:53Speaker 10: up the Sugarhouse cocktail. Let's see any other questions. What
- 13:59Speaker 10: what pairs with Cincinnati chili?
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:03Speaker 8: Something must yeah, you know, uh think of medium bodied.
- 14:09Speaker 8: So whether it's a Penia or a Sancho Vasi, maybe
- 14:12Speaker 8: something from Reoh with Spain.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Something of that nature.
- 14:16Speaker 8: You don't want to do like a big rich Caberny
- 14:18Speaker 8: Sevinon or a You want to watch your alcohol level
- 14:20Speaker 8: because there was some spice in there and it'll overly
- 14:23Speaker 8: emphasize the alcohol. So you want something a little bit
- 14:25Speaker 8: more medium body, medium alcohol, good tannic structure, but not
- 14:28Speaker 8: too overwhelming.
- 14:30Speaker 6: You know what Cincinnati chili is, right, It's chili mac.
- 14:33Speaker 6: I mean it's chili on served over noodles, served.
- 14:37Speaker 8: Over noodles, chopped onion, and cheese. Cheese. It's kind of
- 14:41Speaker 8: an interesting take, but buddy of mind, Tommy Conover makes it.
- 14:45Speaker 8: He's from that area and it's some really good stuff.
- 14:48Speaker 8: I've also heard it called chili mac.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Now I have a question, okay, because.
- 14:53Speaker 7: We were talking about orange juliuses.
- 14:55Speaker 10: Oh yesterday, Okay, Sou found a recipe online is going
- 15:00Speaker 10: to make some orange juliuses this weekend.
- 15:03Speaker 7: But she said specifically we're doing it with milk.
- 15:06Speaker 10: Okay, but she wanted to know what would be the
- 15:10Speaker 10: best booze to add, and I'm thinking vodka.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But well, vaka would be no, I'm with you.
- 15:16Speaker 8: The first thing I thought it was vodka because it
- 15:18Speaker 8: would be a neutral base it's not going to change
- 15:20Speaker 8: anything too much.
- 15:22Speaker 3: What would be fun?
- 15:23Speaker 8: But you're already going to have the orange and you're
- 15:25Speaker 8: already gonna be But I was thinking triple seck. There's
- 15:27Speaker 8: this really nice French triple seck out there. It comes
- 15:30Speaker 8: in a triangular like shaped bottle. The names escaping me
- 15:35Speaker 8: right now. I can see it right on my shelf
- 15:37Speaker 8: in the office, and so I have Sue reached out
- 15:40Speaker 8: to me.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'll send her a picture of it. And that gives
- 15:42Speaker 3: a nice expression.
- 15:44Speaker 8: It's a brandy base, so you get this beautiful flavoring characteristic.
- 15:47Speaker 6: What about what about isn't ben aedictine a orangeuse?
- 15:52Speaker 3: Sort of yeah, very strong and bitter. I think it
- 15:55Speaker 3: might bring.
- 15:55Speaker 8: A little Yeah, it might be a little bit what
- 15:59Speaker 8: you're thinking.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Quatroll as well? Yep maybe yep. ConTroll is also in
- 16:03Speaker 3: the same triple have some quatroll.
- 16:06Speaker 7: But I think I need to stop and get some
- 16:08Speaker 7: vodka on the way home.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But you probably need that anyway.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, Well, thank you, Jimmy, you got it,
- 16:14Speaker 3: You got it. Thanks everybody, have a great weekend, and hey, catch.
- 16:18Speaker 8: Me at Tracy Aviary February nineteenth for our Cellar Club
- 16:24Speaker 8: with Wine takes Flight.
