Speaker 1: Mr Mars has this week's driving destinations.
• 0:10
Speaker 2: So I found a few more places around Houston that I wasn't aware of.
• 0:13
Speaker 2: Are you just afraid of tiptoeing?
• 0:15
Speaker 2: Out of the state of Texas Well no, we're going someplace else, but our core audience is here in Houston.
• 0:20
Speaker 2: So we're going to go to Dallas and San Antonio over the next couple of weeks before school starts, and then, right after school starts, we're going to have one for the other portion of our audience.
• 0:31
  Speaker 3: Oh county jail.
• 0:32
Speaker 2: We're going to find some speakeasies.
• 0:34
Speaker 3: We're going to go to the county jail Speakeasies.
• 0:36
Speaker 1: I wouldn't know anything about those.
• 0:37
Speaker 1: I know a lot about taverns, though, in Wisconsin.
• 0:40
  Speaker 1: No, no.
• 0:45
Speaker 2: We're going to be talking speakeasies.
• 0:46
Speaker 2: So we're talking about Chicago, talking about Houston, dallas and San Antonio speakeasies.
• 0:48
Speaker 3: Okay, that's what makes them a speakeasy?
• 0:50
Speaker 3: You don't know about them.
• 0:51
Speaker 3: Three weeks is a period Bordellos.
• 0:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, now we're going to save that for Christmas holidays.
• 0:55
Speaker 2: Bordellos or Portellos Bordellos yeah, that too.
• 1:00
  Speaker 2: Okay, all right.
• 1:01
Speaker 2: So one of the things I found around houston um was the 1940 air terminal museum.
• 1:08
Speaker 2: Now, this is kind of it's an art deco terminal at the hobby airport and it opened in 1940 and by then it was the sole commercial air terminal until 1954.
• 1:17
Speaker 2: So what they've done now is they've recreated this with a lot of the women air force service pilot uniforms, airline memorabilia, vintage models and a lot of other things that go back to that early flight and civic heritage.
• 1:33
Speaker 2: If you're into that kind of thing, this would be a neat place to go in the hot they actually have uh, wedding receptions over there, weddings, all sorts of things over there.
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah very good.
• 1:43
Speaker 2: The other thing I found that was kind of neat was the shark voyage at houston's downtown aquarium.
• 1:48
Speaker 2: Now this is an underwater train ride that takes a loop through the 200 000 gallon shark tunnel.
• 1:55
Speaker 2: Now this is where you got sharks going all around you.
• 1:58
Speaker 2: Riders kind of glide past sand tiger sharks, brown sharks, sharks and an 18-foot sawfish, while learning about shark conservation, and it's pretty cool for all ages.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: Then you can, if you want to get out and get wet and wild, go to Lagoon Fest.
• 2:16
Speaker 2: Now this is down in Texas City, but it's a 12-acre crystal lagoons experience, complete with white sand beaches, cabanas, lounge chairs, paddle boards, kayaks and bumper boards.
• 2:25
Speaker 2: They also have some Flowrider surf simulations A lot of things that you can set up and do, including and they have food trucks and swim up bars.
• 2:33
  Speaker 3: What's a bumper board?
• 2:34
Speaker 3: Bumper board is Bumper boat.
• 2:37
Speaker 3: Did I say board Board?
• 2:38
Speaker 2: yeah, my bad, okay, so it's bumper boat.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: Board is for the guys that are really tough.
• 2:41
Speaker 2: Board is for the guys that are really tough.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: They don't need that.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: It's all wood, never mind.
• 2:44
Speaker 2: This whole segment is boring.
• 2:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, the other thing that I found was something called Activate Houston.
• 2:50
Speaker 2: Now this is the Activate venue.
• 2:51
Speaker 2: This is up in the woodlands Actually it's in spring, I think but it takes and puts you into this interactive game room.
• 3:00
Speaker 2: Now they have laser dodging, puzzle solving.
• 3:04
Speaker 1: That's what you need is the putzing part that would be good for you.
• 3:07
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 3:08
Speaker 2: So you can go in across 10 game rooms and get involved in all these games Instead of doing it on TV.
• 3:13
Speaker 2: You can actually do it live.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: Oh my God, I'd want to do it on TV.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: I would rather do it on TV.
• 3:18
Speaker 2: I think I know you would.
• 3:20
Speaker 1: Then you are in kind of a sick way.
• 3:21
Speaker 2: I also did not know that you can go to Herman Park and they have pedal boats.
• 3:26
  Speaker 2: Yeah, do that.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: Do that and make sure you take your grandkids along with you, because you're going to be pooped out in a matter of moments after pedaling.
• 3:35
Speaker 2: This is a family type thing, you know.
• 3:37
Speaker 2: So you know for the whole family it's McGovern Lake.
• 3:40
Speaker 2: I didn't even know there was a lake there, but it's got friendly, friendly urban outing in the heart of Houston et cetera.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: Then if you want something else, you can go to the Museum of Illusions in Houston.
• 3:50
Speaker 2: I thought this was really cool Inside the Galleria and it's fairly new.
• 3:55
Speaker 1: If you don't get shot first.
• 3:56
Speaker 2: Well, you've got to get inside and that's part of the illusion Tilted room, reversed room, hypnotic vortex tunnel, all these things that kind of get you interactive in these illusions.
• 4:05
Speaker 2: That I thought was looking pretty cool.
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Then, coming on closer to home here, jeff, minor league baseball at Constellation Field.
• 4:13
Speaker 2: You can go out there and watch a baseball game.
• 4:17
Speaker 2: They got things for kids in the kiddie corral climbing structures.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: I know that's where you like to go.
• 4:22
Speaker 2: It's about three miles from this studio right here, right right, that's what I thought.
• 4:24
  Speaker 2: And climbing structures.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: I know that's where you like to go.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: It's about three miles from this studio.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: Right here, Right right, that's what I thought.
• 4:27
Speaker 2: And also out here, I did not know.
• 4:27
Speaker 2: There is something called Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park here in Sugar Land so you can have an outdoor experience.
• 4:33
Speaker 2: It's in Brazos River Park.
• 4:35
Speaker 2: Got the longest zip lines in the Houston area, some of them up to 1,000 feet 70 treetop obstacles, tar, 70 treetop obstacles, tarzan swings a lot of things.
• 4:43
Speaker 2: If you want to go out climbing in the trees, thinking you're, Tarzan there you go, I know, Jeff's been out there.
• 4:51
Speaker 2: They probably have one that says this is Jeff's personal swing.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: It swings like Jane, yes, yes.
• 4:55
Speaker 2: So this is a few other things I found to do in the Houston area that I did not know you could do.
• 5:00

• 6:42
Speaker 1: And the Guinness World.
• 6:43
  Speaker 3: Record holders Car.
• 6:44
Speaker 3: You've got high mileage on you, so you should be right in here, don.
• 6:47
  Speaker 3: Thank you.
• 6:47
Speaker 3: Many of these cars.
• 6:49
  Speaker 2: Well, go ahead.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: No, you've got to get it up on the screen.
• 6:52
  Speaker 2: I thought I did.
• 6:53
  Speaker 2: There you go.
• 6:54
  Speaker 2: You did Okay.
• 6:56
Speaker 3: Many of these cars never see 100,000 miles on the odometer.
• 6:58
Speaker 3: There are owners like the ones in these lists, owners who keep their cars far beyond manufacturers' predicted lifespans, whether out of necessity or just pure love for the vehicle.
• 7:09
Speaker 3: This first one is a 1964 Porsche 356C.
• 7:11
Speaker 3: Last known mileage on this is a million miles.
• 7:14
  Speaker 3: How about that?
• 7:14
Speaker 3: Gary Newmark received this 1964 Porsche as a graduation present from his father in the mid-'60s.
• 7:21
Speaker 3: Now, over 50 years later, this gentleman drives it daily.
• 7:25
Speaker 3: It's a blue one and he's nicknamed it Blue.
• 7:28
Speaker 3: In 2013, the odometer showed 980,000 miles and, as the story goes, he was about to have all the media cover the rollover to the million Along with a stroke Right.
• 7:39
Speaker 3: But the car got stolen.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: So he figured those plans are dashed.
• 7:43
Speaker 3: They found the car down the street because they couldn't properly hotwire those villains.
• 7:46
Speaker 3: So luckily he found it and he did roll it over, and you can see the actual rollover of the car hitting a million miles on YouTube.
• 7:54
Speaker 3: Not literally rolled over, no, a rollover of the mileage of the odometer.
• 7:59
Speaker 3: The next one is the 1983 Lincoln Town Car 1.3 million miles.
• 8:04
Speaker 3: If you're going to travel 1.3 million miles, it's best to do something with a pair of bench seats molded after your grandmother's most comfortable couch.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: The owner of the Lincoln Town Car drove it across the country on many occasions.
• 8:16
Speaker 3: He squeezed out 22 miles a gallon on the massive V8 the whole time.
• 8:20
Speaker 3: He maintained it at a Lincoln dealership for its entire life, never broke down once he claims, and to see the stellar reliability from a Ford is great.
• 8:30
  Speaker 1: So the interior?
• 8:31
Speaker 1: Did it have kind of a musty mothball-y smell, since it could have been?
• 8:35
  Speaker 3: Grandma's closet.
• 8:35
Speaker 3: It could have been Grandma's closet, but two weeks after this rolled over, ford recalled it.
• 8:40
Speaker 3: The next one is a 63 Volkswagen Beetle.
• 8:46
Speaker 3: Last known mileage 1.61 million miles.
• 8:49
Speaker 3: Mechanically speaking, beetles are famous for their brutal simplicity, ease of repair but not necessarily reliability.
• 8:57
Speaker 3: Yet this one covered an astonishing 1.61 million miles.
• 9:01
  Speaker 3: It wasn't easy.
• 9:02
Speaker 3: The owner reportedly went through seven engines on the way to this 1.6.
• 9:06
Speaker 3: He reached it in 1987 after buying the car in 63.
• 9:11
Speaker 3: That means he covered about 183 miles per day this whole lifespan of this vehicle.
• 9:17
Speaker 3: So there you go.
• 9:18
Speaker 3: That's kind of unbelievable.
• 9:19
Speaker 3: The next one Mike, up and down the Hardy Toll Road, yeah.
• 9:22
Speaker 3: The next one is a 63 Plymouth Fury last known mileage 1.62 million miles.
• 9:25
Speaker 3: Next one is a 63 Plymouth Fury last known mileage 1.62 million miles.
• 9:27
Speaker 3: Sometimes the reason for a car never making it to high mileage number is completely out of the owner's hands and pure bad luck.
• 9:33
Speaker 3: In this case, the 63 Plymouth Fury was a taxi in Montreal where it kept good care by the owner the whole time he had it.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: But in that time he estimates he carries some 800,000 passengers across the city, came within a few miles of the Guinness World Record in 1999, and a truck hit his car, totaled it, so it's gone.
• 9:53
Speaker 3: So there you go.
• 9:55
Speaker 3: So much for that.
• 9:56
  Speaker 3: The next one is a 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D 2.85 million miles.
• 10:03
Speaker 3: You know, none of these cars are really cool.
• 10:06
Speaker 1: They're just nerdy drivers.
• 10:08
  Speaker 1: They're dirty cars.
• 10:10
  Speaker 3: It's 2.85 million miles.
• 10:12
Speaker 3: The first car of this list to travel over 2 million miles, doubling the mileage count of some of the cars earlier that we talked about.
• 10:18
Speaker 3: It belonged to a Greek taxi driver.
• 10:20
Speaker 3: There's kind of a theme here.
• 10:21
Speaker 1: A taxi driver could afford that.
• 10:24
Speaker 3: Who reached an astonishing 2.85 million miles in 2004.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: Mercedes-benz recognized the longest running vehicle in a company's history, gave this guy a C-Class for his taxi duties, and they put the 240D in the museum of Mercedes.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: So how about that?
• 10:41
  Speaker 3: The last one is a biggie it's a 66 Volvo P1800, 3.25 million miles.
• 10:49
Speaker 1: I saw an interview with the guy that has that car.
• 10:51
Speaker 3: Fitting that Volvo would hold the Guinness World Record for the high mileage.
• 10:54
Speaker 3: Although the P1800 wasn't just any Volvo it was a beautiful and comfortable sports tourer and its owner, irv Gordon, which we don't know, used it for his true intention to purpose long-distance driving across the United States, irv achieved an astounding mileage count of 3.4 million miles in 2014.
• 11:13
Speaker 3: He claimed that the secret to longevity was regular oil changes, closely following the manufacturer's maintenance guidelines and keeping the car clean.
• 11:21
Speaker 3: Irv kept driving the Volvo until, sadly, he passed away at age 77 a few years later.
• 11:26
Speaker 3: So the car outlived him.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: So the car outlived him.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, the car outlived him.
• 11:28
Speaker 3: Reportedly, odometer showed 3.25 miles.
• 11:30
Speaker 3: Rest in peace, irv.
• 11:32
Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of which, greta Rogers, my sixth grade teacher.
• 11:38
Speaker 1: She had one of those, really.
• 11:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, she was a pretty blonde lady, married, don't know if she had any children or not, but she had one of those.
• 11:46
Speaker 1: And landlady, married, don't know if she had any children or not, but she had one of those.
• 11:50
Speaker 1: And it was so odd.
• 11:51
Speaker 1: It was a cool car, especially back when it was new.
• 11:53
Speaker 1: It was a very cool car.
• 11:53
Speaker 1: I never knew anybody that had one other than her, right?
• 11:57
Speaker 1: So apparently she or her husband were into cool cars.
• 12:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, was it red?
• 12:03
Speaker 1: You know I believe it was.
• 12:06
Speaker 1: Oh, cool, but whatever, all right Time now for this hour's car review.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: I had the opportunity to drive the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: Final assembly location Ramos, arispe, mexico.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: Oh, come on, that's what it is.
• 12:32
Speaker 1: It comes in three trim levels LT, rs and SS.
• 12:36
Speaker 1: I have the SS, all-wheel drive.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: This is a small, what is considered a small SUV.
• 12:40
Speaker 1: The wheelbase on it is like a limousine.
• 12:42
  Speaker 1: It seats five.
• 12:45
Speaker 1: This year, the new SS trim debuts.
• 12:49
Speaker 1: The vehicle itself was all new in 2024.
• 12:53
Speaker 1: Long wheelbase makes a visual that is definitely noteworthy.
• 12:59
Speaker 1: You stand out away from it and you look at it from the side and think, my God, the wheelbase goes on forever.
• 13:05
Speaker 1: To me, this is one of the sharpest looking designs in the EV class overall Sculpted sides, complex, modern grille without a blank grille panel in it.
• 13:18
  Speaker 1: I can't stand that.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: Why did they do that on this electric vehicle?
• 13:22
Speaker 2: It's kind of like well, we don't know what to do with it, so we'll just put a blank panel in it.
• 13:26
Speaker 1: Because there's no radiator.
• 13:27
  Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, fastback.
• 13:29
Speaker 1: Sloping roofline with integrated sunshade over the rear glass.
• 13:33
Speaker 1: What I liked about it?
• 13:34
Speaker 1: The big wheel, well filling the wheel wells with tires, and it looks good.
• 13:42
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 13:43
  Speaker 1: Nothing.
• 13:44
Speaker 1: High marks for exterior design.
• 13:46
Speaker 1: On the inside, interior, highlights include 17-inch huge infotainment screen that melds behind the instrument cluster screen Works well.
• 13:58
  Speaker 1: It looks good.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: Operating system is excellent and is easy to understand and operate.
• 14:03
Speaker 1: Comfortable seating with nice materials throughout.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: Love the shifter stalk on the column.
• 14:12
Speaker 1: It removes the bulky shifter down on the console to leave room for your cell phone charger, cup holders the stuff that you really need.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: How often do you use the shifter?
• 14:25
Speaker 1: I like the stalk that they've come up with.
• 14:27
  Speaker 1: It works well.
• 14:28
Speaker 1: You've got the same one in your Buick Yep Cargo room.
• 14:32
Speaker 1: Plenty behind the second row of seats.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: What I like overall great user-friendly design.
• 14:38
  Speaker 1: Great family vehicle.
• 14:40
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 14:42
Speaker 1: It should come with its own trophy Engine.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: Well, it's all electric.
• 14:48
  Speaker 1: It's rated at 615 horsepower.
• 14:53
  Speaker 1: That's a lot.
• 14:54
Speaker 1: my friends 650 pound-feet of torque.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: It is obviously electric.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: So electric motors direct drive Miles per gallon.
• 15:02
Speaker 1: If you want to drill it down to that, they claim 92 in the city and a highway of 77, for a combined of 85 miles per gallon E, which is electric.
• 15:15
Speaker 1: I got 2.7 miles per kilowatt hour and I didn't do the math because I don't know how to do it.
• 15:21
  Speaker 1: It's over 238.7 miles.
• 15:24
  Speaker 1: What Mars?
• 15:25
  Speaker 2: I said no, I don't.
• 15:28
Speaker 1: So if they're going to drill it down and give me a figure that I can understand 92 miles per gallon in the city, e and 77 highway for a combined of 85.
• 15:37
Speaker 1: Why can't they put that on the window sticker and say here, this is it.
• 15:42
Speaker 1: No, instead it's 2.7 miles per kilowatt hour.
• 15:45
Speaker 1: You do the math.
• 15:46
Speaker 1: I don't know how to do the math.
• 15:49
Speaker 1: No, not for that.
• 15:49
  Speaker 1: 238.7 miles.
• 15:51
  Speaker 1: I drove it.
• 15:51
Speaker 1: Plenty of power, what could use improvement?
• 15:54
  Speaker 1: I don't know Nothing.
• 15:55
Speaker 1: Ride and handling Rode great, like a great big limo and it was heavy.
• 16:00
Speaker 1: The weight 5,730 pounds, and it felt like it.
• 16:07
Speaker 1: It felt like a big, heavy limousine.
• 16:10
Speaker 1: But you know what?
• 16:11
Speaker 1: It only takes a few drives and that goes out of your mind.
• 16:15
Speaker 1: You don't really think about it.
• 16:16
Speaker 1: It was more than a NASCAR car, pretty much.
• 16:18
Speaker 1: Yes, base trim price $60,600.
• 16:23
Speaker 1: Now, keep that in mind $60,600.
• 16:27
  Speaker 1: Prices tested $64,180.
• 16:28
Speaker 1: Price is tested $64,180.
• 16:31
Speaker 1: You can get in one of these not the SS model for $44,600.
• 16:35
Speaker 1: If you're in for an EV, I would definitely check this out.
• 16:38
Speaker 1: It still has the $7,500 tax credit.
• 16:41
Speaker 1: It's not going to be lasting much longer.
• 16:44
Speaker 1: And of course, you know GM is about to pass on those tariffs, at least in some form.
• 16:50
