- 0:22Speaker 1: The World's of biget Pokies. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Am
- 0:33Speaker 1: I am? I scared of that Jets defense? Hell yeah,
- 0:36Speaker 1: they're good. You're not terrible.
- 0:38Speaker 3: I'm not afraid of defenses in general. I'm not. That's
- 0:43Speaker 3: great that in the coup five bucks will buy you
- 0:46Speaker 3: a couple. I turned the game off when Aaron Rodgers
- 0:48Speaker 3: got hurt. I was like, I have no interest in
- 0:49Speaker 3: the rest of this game.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Oh man, nice. If you like football, Yeah, I do
- 0:53Speaker 1: like football.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I don't like Zach. At the same time, you're telling
- 0:57Speaker 3: me that they lost in the Cincinnati game because they
- 0:59Speaker 3: can't run the ball?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Did I?
- 1:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:01Speaker 4: You did.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Paul Paul has an argument database by name Argument.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Day you can't remember your name?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Who have him?
- 1:10Speaker 5: Repeat that he made three? Really good throws in the game.
- 1:13Speaker 5: And that's one of them, only three good throws. All
- 1:17Speaker 5: the other throws for it throws at every quarterback in
- 1:19Speaker 5: the league.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And make okay, I'm not taking it that far.
- 1:21Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:23Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:27Speaker 6: dot Com.
- 1:30Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:34Speaker 1: at Jillette Stadium, and uh got a lot to talk about.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It's a big show. It's the turn the paid day
- 1:41Speaker 1: for the Patriots. This is when the players get their
- 1:44Speaker 1: game plans for the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Uh, we're telling everyone it's gonna be a throwback game.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So the Patriots will be in their reds for this game.
- 1:54Speaker 1: A little later in the show, we're gonna have a
- 1:57Speaker 1: Hall of Fame visit from Andre Tippet. Talk a little
- 2:01Speaker 1: bit about those red jersey days. A little nervous about
- 2:04Speaker 1: that one. Yeah, we'll go down memory lane a little bit.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Whether they could hit you. Yeah, I don't want to
- 2:10Speaker 1: ask the wrong question, so he'll come in and then
- 2:14Speaker 1: what else, Well, I want to mention speaking a throwback.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Last week we introduced the Poster series series uh, poster
- 2:23Speaker 1: series series. Yeah, anyway, last week's posters sold out, which
- 2:29Speaker 1: was pretty cool awesome. So if people didn't see the
- 2:32Speaker 1: show last week, every week for every home game, there's
- 2:36Speaker 1: going to be an unique poster created by a local
- 2:39Speaker 1: New England artist. We're only printing two hundred and seventy
- 2:43Speaker 1: five of each game. Each poster is numbered and signed
- 2:48Speaker 1: by the artist, and you can buy them on Patriots
- 2:51Speaker 1: dot com. So I just want to give you a look.
- 2:53Speaker 1: This is this week's poster for the Miami Dolphins game,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and each poster comes with a certificate of authenticity that
- 3:02Speaker 1: you can get. So those are available on Patriot dot
- 3:05Speaker 1: com right now. Last week sold out, so if you
- 3:09Speaker 1: want to collect them all, you know, you better get
- 3:12Speaker 1: you better, you better hurry. So these are available on
- 3:15Speaker 1: Patris dot com. We're gonna have a different poster for
- 3:18Speaker 1: every home game with a different artist.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Uh.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So we're really excited about this whole poster series that
- 3:24Speaker 1: we're doing. Got a little Squish the Fish in there.
- 3:26Speaker 8: I see little Squish the Fish.
- 3:29Speaker 4: What else do we have? I don't know.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Little little Miami look to it, some New England look.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's good.
- 3:38Speaker 3: It's like a politician there you know, let me look
- 3:42Speaker 3: right into the camera when I say this. The certificate
- 3:46Speaker 3: of authenticity is right here.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I we've got video, we might as well use it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely And the Show within a Show today, we're
- 3:55Speaker 1: gonna give away three of these posters. So you want
- 3:59Speaker 1: to hang out for that answer the trivia questions during
- 4:02Speaker 1: the Show within a Show you could win one. But
- 4:04Speaker 1: even if you can't, you can buy uh these limited
- 4:08Speaker 1: edition posters on Patriots dot com only two hundred and
- 4:11Speaker 1: seventy five per game. So really excited about that. A
- 4:16Speaker 1: lot of fallout from yesterday's show at lasts why we
- 4:20Speaker 1: had to take Evan off today. So the last time
- 4:22Speaker 1: I heard what do we got? The last time I looked,
- 4:26Speaker 1: he was still arguing.
- 4:28Speaker 8: He is, Oh yeah, it's drained into today. Yeah, today, today.
- 4:32Speaker 1: He's He's been at it since the show ended yesterday.
- 4:35Speaker 8: So something I've realized about Evan is like, you know,
- 4:37Speaker 8: he loves to watch the film, and I feel like
- 4:39Speaker 8: he watches the film and he thinks what he thinks
- 4:41Speaker 8: and he comes in hot with it and he just
- 4:43Speaker 8: doesn't care.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And that's what it's two.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, And I get it, and I like the strength
- 4:50Speaker 3: of the conviction like you don't need other people to
- 4:52Speaker 3: think like you do. You watch something, you have a take,
- 4:55Speaker 3: and you I have no problem.
- 4:57Speaker 1: It was like it was.
- 4:57Speaker 8: It was like when he was, you know, trumpeting Connor mcturn.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I'll tell you what I do have a problem with,
- 5:01Speaker 3: though Mike as the argumentative one in the show, I
- 5:05Speaker 3: can't argue. I feel like I fell between Fred and
- 5:08Speaker 3: Evan yesterday, like I'm in the middle. I don't like
- 5:10Speaker 3: being in the middle. I definitely think it. I know,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I feel more positively about everything than Evan did, but
- 5:21Speaker 3: I can't get to where Fred is in terms of
- 5:24Speaker 3: the pos But it's kind of a bad place for
- 5:28Speaker 3: me to be. I don't like being in a.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Great gray area.
- 5:31Speaker 8: He climbed up to the top of Mount Max. Stinks
- 5:34Speaker 8: and now, you know, like you were on Mount Cooks,
- 5:35Speaker 8: he's on Mount Max.
- 5:36Speaker 3: I'm not I'm not there, not off that game.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Let me put it this way, the way that the
- 5:40Speaker 1: game panned out. I mean, obviously, if it kept the
- 5:44Speaker 1: way it started, i'd be, you know, in uh in
- 5:49Speaker 1: despair at this point. But the way the game played out,
- 5:52Speaker 1: there's nothing about that game that tells me I shouldn't
- 5:56Speaker 1: be still hopeful. I went into the season with hope,
- 5:59Speaker 1: with no expectations, and I still have hope as a
- 6:02Speaker 1: result of that game. I think that was.
- 6:04Speaker 8: That was I was trying to make that point to
- 6:05Speaker 8: jump in when you guys were going at it. But
- 6:07Speaker 8: just you know, we all last week said if you
- 6:09Speaker 8: don't have hope right now, like what are you doing?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Totally? You know, and it's still like you watched one game.
- 6:14Speaker 1: If you lost all hope off of one game, then
- 6:16Speaker 1: what do you do?
- 6:17Speaker 8: You know, like I understand you have a little less
- 6:18Speaker 8: hope or maybe something was confirmed to you that you,
- 6:20Speaker 8: you know, necessarily weren't looking forward to about this season,
- 6:23Speaker 8: which a little bit where I lie, But you know
- 6:25Speaker 8: there there certainly are things that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You could take away positive. Why so here he is
- 6:29Speaker 1: now back from defending doctor bat the Doctor Gloom Evan Lazarre,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the veteran of the Mac Battles Doctor Gloom.
- 6:38Speaker 5: That's my new nickname.
- 6:39Speaker 8: How are your Twitter fights going with with your unhappy
- 6:42Speaker 8: followers about your your your your takes?
- 6:44Speaker 1: You know what?
- 6:45Speaker 5: I think I think I'm misunderstood. That's what I'm gonna say.
- 6:50Speaker 5: I think I'm misunderstood. I have two things I'll say one,
- 6:54Speaker 5: I think I'm misunderstood. I can explain why throughout the
- 6:58Speaker 5: show if you guys want. And number two, like the
- 7:01Speaker 5: quarterback twenty four hour rule. We talked about it yesterday
- 7:04Speaker 5: onto Miami.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Did he say anything to you today at the press conference?
- 7:07Speaker 5: I know he did not. We're still on good terms
- 7:09Speaker 5: as far as I know.
- 7:10Speaker 1: But he didn't listen to the show yet, ye.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Apparently not or read it was honest about what I saw.
- 7:19Speaker 8: How dare I he's going to fire you from Pete ow?
- 7:22Speaker 3: That was my comment. I said, I respect the fact
- 7:24Speaker 3: that you watch it and you don't need other people
- 7:27Speaker 3: to sort of, you know, jump on your bandwagon. You
- 7:30Speaker 3: have your convictions. I expect it. I mean, I disagree
- 7:33Speaker 3: a little bit, but not far.
- 7:36Speaker 5: I'll admit that I went a little far. I think,
- 7:38Speaker 5: you know, my frustration stems from the fact that I
- 7:43Speaker 5: personally feel as though they have not done enough to
- 7:47Speaker 5: help out the offense, just on any level like I don't.
- 7:50Speaker 5: And I think that that's where I come out of
- 7:53Speaker 5: I'm misunderstood because I think a lot of people took
- 7:55Speaker 5: what I said yesterday as me bashing Mac, which maybe
- 7:59Speaker 5: I did a little bit. And I'll take ownership of that.
- 8:01Speaker 5: But I think the biggest thing is is that I
- 8:03Speaker 5: am trying to tell people that in my eyes, the
- 8:08Speaker 5: quarterback is being asked to do too much. There's too
- 8:11Speaker 5: much on his plate where he needs to be almost
- 8:15Speaker 5: perfect for them to even put up twenty seven points
- 8:18Speaker 5: to win a game at home against these Well, you
- 8:20Speaker 5: know it's.
- 8:21Speaker 1: True because we talked about that twenty five point. You know,
- 8:25Speaker 1: no man's land. If you give up twenty five, you
- 8:27Speaker 1: lose if you're the Patriots. And Timothy Wright writes in
- 8:31Speaker 1: and he says, the whole narrative that the Patriots are
- 8:34Speaker 1: terrible when opponents score over twenty five points has also
- 8:37Speaker 1: been sort of true the last few years during Brady's time.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Twenty seventeen, one and three when opponents score twenty five
- 8:45Speaker 1: points are over eighteen two and four in nineteen ozho
- 8:49Speaker 1: to three. So they're three and ten over three years
- 8:53Speaker 1: with literally the greatest quarterback in history and a true
- 8:56Speaker 1: Hall of Fame tight end in Gronk for those for two.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Of uom they're thirty percent better, but still at three
- 9:01Speaker 3: and ten.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yes, when you give.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Up a lot of points, you're not gonna win all
- 9:05Speaker 3: the time.
- 9:05Speaker 1: But I don't think twenty five points is a lot
- 9:07Speaker 1: of points in the NFL these days.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Well, I also agree with that. Yeah, yeah, it's not
- 9:12Speaker 3: like it's thirty five. No, I'm but thirty percent compared
- 9:15Speaker 3: to zero.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I but don't you think Brady is more
- 9:19Speaker 1: than thirty percent better than Mac?
- 9:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and that number.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Would prove more than thirty percent.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Okay, so if he won thirty one percent, it would
- 9:28Speaker 3: be more than three. I mean, I just think that
- 9:30Speaker 3: doesn't Yeah, how about how about let's get played at
- 9:35Speaker 3: how about get Brady's first three years when allowing twenty
- 9:37Speaker 3: five let me fix a saying set of when he
- 9:40Speaker 3: was forty two.
- 9:40Speaker 1: They didn't allow. Are we really saying that Mac couldn't
- 9:43Speaker 1: get two to three wins over a period of three
- 9:45Speaker 1: years if he had a real offensive coordinator in the
- 9:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty two in real weapons. I think this narrative
- 9:50Speaker 1: of twenty five points isn't that different than what has
- 9:53Speaker 1: been true the last three years, even during Brady's years,
- 9:56Speaker 1: not saying Mac is the guy or has the clutch game,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but this stat doesn't of the point. Also, Paul Josh
- 10:02Speaker 1: Allen has always been a part, has always been a
- 10:05Speaker 1: turnover machine, not just the last game, averaging two turnovers
- 10:08Speaker 1: a game. Since Game one of last year, he has
- 10:11Speaker 1: the most.
- 10:11Speaker 3: He had four Monday nights. Okay, And I was told
- 10:14Speaker 3: that's what he is.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He has the most amount of turns quarterback since he
- 10:18Speaker 1: came into.
- 10:18Speaker 3: He also had the most amount of touchdowns for a
- 10:20Speaker 3: quarterback last year except for one but finished second. But
- 10:23Speaker 3: he is, so you're going to turn the ball over
- 10:26Speaker 3: when you make place. He had forty two touchdowns last year.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Mis understood. So I just wanted to, you know, I
- 10:34Speaker 5: think the stat from from Brady and all that is
- 10:38Speaker 5: in the offensive coordinator stuff. And it's the problem that
- 10:43Speaker 5: I keep coming back to is that we knew all
- 10:47Speaker 5: of this coming into the year that they really are
- 10:51Speaker 5: who they are personnel wise, and the coaching was going
- 10:54Speaker 5: to be better and the quarterback was going to look
- 10:56Speaker 5: a little bit better as a result. And we saw
- 10:59Speaker 5: that on Sunday, And it still isn't enough against a
- 11:03Speaker 5: good team like maybe it might be enough against the
- 11:05Speaker 5: Saints in a couple of weeks or against the Colts
- 11:08Speaker 5: in Germany or something like that, but against a good
- 11:10Speaker 5: team like Philadelphia, it's still not enough. And I don't
- 11:14Speaker 5: hold that just against Mac Jones. I just my whole
- 11:17Speaker 5: point yesterday was just this is who Mac Jones is.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Like us sitting here waiting for Mac Jones to become
- 11:24Speaker 5: this all world quarterback. I just don't know if that's
- 11:27Speaker 5: gonna happen.
- 11:29Speaker 3: The other part I would say is on the twenty
- 11:31Speaker 3: five point thing, they're gonna listen, that's not gonna stay
- 11:34Speaker 3: a zero forever. The Patriots will eventually win games when
- 11:38Speaker 3: the other team scores points, and they'll be able to
- 11:41Speaker 3: win a game in the fourth quarter. Like these things,
- 11:44Speaker 3: there's no such thing as an absolute. It will never
- 11:46Speaker 3: stay oh and forever, like they're going to find a
- 11:50Speaker 3: way to win some of these games.
- 11:51Speaker 1: We're just a little frustrated, that's all, Mike. Some of
- 11:54Speaker 1: these emails, I thought we're well thought out. You know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: we don't have to agree with everything they say. But
- 11:58Speaker 1: Mike and Connecticut writes in the Tuesday Show was one
- 12:03Speaker 1: of the more undeservedly negative ones I've heard in recent memory.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Was unpleasant to listen to. I'm all for a dose
- 12:11Speaker 1: of realism, but my god, it's week one and we
- 12:14Speaker 1: played the preseason Super Bowl favorites. Just a fact Paul
- 12:17Speaker 1: Holster the snark, Someone please remind Evan eighty five percent
- 12:21Speaker 1: of the league played like garbage on Sunday. The team
- 12:24Speaker 1: showed some promise and improvement over last season. No one
- 12:27Speaker 1: is anointing Mac is the second coming of the Patriots
- 12:30Speaker 1: as super Bowl bound. Paul may be impatient, but as
- 12:33Speaker 1: a result of bad drafting, this team is still collecting talent,
- 12:36Speaker 1: even if they stand to lose some in the offseason.
- 12:38Speaker 1: As we were reminding over and over and over again, realistically,
- 12:42Speaker 1: improvement in the God forbid the occasional glimmer of optimism
- 12:46Speaker 1: is what this season is about, not championships. You all
- 12:49Speaker 1: predicted mediocrity. Why the uproar when they meet your expectations?
- 12:53Speaker 5: Says, why is that have to be our expectation?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Some balance?
- 12:57Speaker 4: Please?
- 12:58Speaker 1: I could hear you trying to argue the other side. Fred,
- 13:00Speaker 1: thank you, you're welcome. The one note negativity made for
- 13:03Speaker 1: a bad show, Well, I.
- 13:05Speaker 8: Don't think it was one note negativity. I think we
- 13:07Speaker 8: have plenty of theories for the defense, and.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You know, I get it, this is what people feel
- 13:11Speaker 1: that being honest, I don't think there's anyone on this
- 13:14Speaker 1: show trying to be negative. You know, for negative sake.
- 13:19Speaker 3: I don't even feel like I was negative yesterday. I
- 13:21Speaker 3: feel like there were a lot of things to be
- 13:23Speaker 3: excited about. I focused on the defense. I thought the
- 13:25Speaker 3: defense played a really good game against a quality opponent
- 13:29Speaker 3: that I haven't really seen a lot of since Brady left.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Agreed that was what I focused on yesterday, but no
- 13:34Speaker 3: one remembers that.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I said that Junior and Canton writes and I definitely
- 13:38Speaker 1: share evans disappointment from the game, but maybe for a
- 13:41Speaker 1: different reason. It seems criminal in the last three years,
- 13:45Speaker 1: Bill hasn't acquired a number one receiver. Looking around the league,
- 13:48Speaker 1: this is something every team does when they invest in
- 13:50Speaker 1: a new quarterback. On Sunday, I saw a legit number
- 13:53Speaker 1: two receiver and Kendrick Bourne a good tight end in
- 13:56Speaker 1: Hunter Henry. And although we had a bad game, I
- 13:58Speaker 1: know Ramandre is a really good run. So it's extremely
- 14:01Speaker 1: disappointing that we don't have a number one receiver to
- 14:04Speaker 1: round out this offense because with the defense we saw
- 14:07Speaker 1: on Sunday, just one explosive weapon could change how we
- 14:11Speaker 1: view this team's potential. And maybe it's mac future.
- 14:14Speaker 5: I don't disagree with any of that, and I think
- 14:16Speaker 5: that's my entire point of my whole show yesterday. That
- 14:21Speaker 5: misunderstood again is that this is we're sitting here saying,
- 14:26Speaker 5: don't overreact to week one. Like to me, that bugs
- 14:29Speaker 5: me because this is we're in year three. Like this,
- 14:33Speaker 5: he's thirty three starts into his NFL career. We're not
- 14:36Speaker 5: overreacting to week one, where we have two years of
- 14:39Speaker 5: a sample size to work with. It's not just one week.
- 14:42Speaker 5: And yes, it's one week in this system and in
- 14:44Speaker 5: this team and in this offense. But at the bottom
- 14:47Speaker 5: line is is that the results have been the same
- 14:49Speaker 5: for three years.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Mike and Duval, Paul nailed it. Paul nailed it yesterday,
- 14:56Speaker 1: four years into the post Brady era, and this team
- 14:58Speaker 1: is still being talked to about and viewed as the
- 15:01Speaker 1: little engine that could. At what point does the so
- 15:04Speaker 1: called greatest coach ever begin to lose a tremendous amount
- 15:08Speaker 1: of shine on the goat coach luster from putting together
- 15:11Speaker 1: seasons that what will it take for each of you
- 15:14Speaker 1: to say, well, it was Brady not Belichick.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Well, I mean that's a different argument. But when I
- 15:20Speaker 3: say the little engine that could, But that's not really
- 15:23Speaker 3: indicative of how I felt about the game itself. I
- 15:25Speaker 3: just want to I want to analyze where the team
- 15:28Speaker 3: is after the game based on reality in the league,
- 15:32Speaker 3: not like, well, what did you expect? Well, kind of
- 15:35Speaker 3: what I expected was, you know, kind of close to
- 15:38Speaker 3: what had happened. I didn't expect the defense to play
- 15:40Speaker 3: as well as it did, and I thought the offense
- 15:43Speaker 3: would be better but not good enough, if that makes
- 15:46Speaker 3: any sense. And I just look at it as like
- 15:49Speaker 3: this whole Week one thing, Like, there's a lot of
- 15:53Speaker 3: teams that played badly in Week one, as a couple
- 15:55Speaker 3: of emailers ago mentioned sixteen of them. One, but do
- 15:58Speaker 3: you think they're thrilled in Cincinnati today? Do you think
- 16:01Speaker 3: they're thrilled in Buffalo today?
- 16:04Speaker 1: No?
- 16:05Speaker 3: Like, the only one that's probably blew it off was
- 16:07Speaker 3: Kansas City because of all the personnel they were missing
- 16:11Speaker 3: and the fact that they're defending Super Bowl champs. But
- 16:14Speaker 3: like in Buffalo, I could tell you this concern over
- 16:17Speaker 3: the fact that Josh Allen, as the emailer pointed out,
- 16:21Speaker 3: continues to turn the ball over, and this frustration over that,
- 16:24Speaker 3: this frustration losing a game that almost was unlosable unless
- 16:28Speaker 3: you did what you did. Ye like they're not saying
- 16:30Speaker 3: that it was week one? Yeah right, Oh the Jets own.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Us Ryan Dables on a ledge, you see if you
- 16:36Speaker 1: hear him after the game, they need to go.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Do you think the Giants are looking at that, Fred
- 16:41Speaker 3: and saying, what's this Week one?
- 16:42Speaker 4: Well?
- 16:42Speaker 5: They lost forty to But I understand even I could
- 16:47Speaker 5: admit that that's a different line.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I understand that it was a complete and total collapse
- 16:50Speaker 3: in all in all areas. But do you think they're
- 16:52Speaker 3: just looking at it said, wow, it's just just weak?
- 16:54Speaker 1: None? Who cares? Now?
- 16:55Speaker 4: No?
- 16:55Speaker 8: Well, how many times have you seen a Week one
- 16:57Speaker 8: game two that's completely not indicative of out the team
- 17:00Speaker 8: ends up being with, like you know, the three Pats
- 17:02Speaker 8: being prime example where you get out.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Could that be again for the Patriots?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Perhaps could they have played better than they really are?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Perhaps? Could the other team have played worse than they
- 17:10Speaker 1: really are? I don't, I don't have any idea.
- 17:12Speaker 3: It was like, I don't know, I have no Like Fred,
- 17:15Speaker 3: Fred said this like twenty years ago, and like we
- 17:18Speaker 3: might look at that ten weeks from now and say
- 17:21Speaker 3: that's the day that I knew the Patriots defense was
- 17:23Speaker 3: going to be legit, Because then they've strung together a
- 17:26Speaker 3: number of performances like that, or we could say that
- 17:28Speaker 3: was the day we should have known that Philadelphia was
- 17:30Speaker 3: a one hit wonder last year and they fell apart
- 17:33Speaker 3: the next year.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Who knows, just don't know. That's why you can't judge
- 17:36Speaker 1: a schedule before you play the games, That's right.
- 17:39Speaker 5: And then Aaron Rodgers gets hurt.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Right, Melvin says, can we get a pe shirt with
- 17:43Speaker 1: misunderstood on it? I'll face on the other.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I'm not misunderstood, Okay, I am misunderstand.
- 17:49Speaker 1: That's evans thing.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Have people telling me that it that that I'm mad
- 17:54Speaker 5: at mac because he made a joke about me and
- 17:56Speaker 5: the press car like it's personal.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You know, like who said that?
- 17:59Speaker 5: People?
- 18:00Speaker 8: Oh, oh that's I didn't even think that.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Oh that's a good one. People are just general people
- 18:06Speaker 1: general who's who's people? You know? The media, There are
- 18:10Speaker 1: people the media.
- 18:12Speaker 3: Here's the way that hangs out with them, you know.
- 18:13Speaker 3: But there he goes out and he has to check
- 18:15Speaker 3: their mood by.
- 18:16Speaker 5: The way in the pouring rain. In a few minutes.
- 18:19Speaker 8: Aside and the Brady the Brady hypephone, did they put
- 18:22Speaker 8: the your honor your honored? They put They put some
- 18:24Speaker 8: of that sound by one of the.
- 18:25Speaker 3: That was in a little bit that was in Who's Honor?
- 18:30Speaker 3: My name wasn't spelled wrong in that one? No, I
- 18:35Speaker 3: also thought I was I was spelled wrong?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Were one more email and then we'll get into today's topic.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Are you going to let the people because a lot
- 18:42Speaker 3: of people listen on the podcast.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Yeah, in Redford, Michigan, I'm one hundred percent on board
- 18:47Speaker 1: with Evan's comments.
- 18:49Speaker 3: You know, everybody not everybody misunderstands.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Thank you for telling it like it is. Like Evan said,
- 18:54Speaker 1: for those that feel optimistic about the Patriots offense or
- 18:57Speaker 1: Matt Jones, what is the basis When they got the
- 19:00Speaker 1: ball back toward the end of the game, I did
- 19:02Speaker 1: not believe they would win because with Matt Jones and
- 19:05Speaker 1: the center, history has shown so that he wouldn't get
- 19:07Speaker 1: the job done. Evan. People are coming after you because
- 19:10Speaker 1: some like placing their hope in positivity and optimism even
- 19:14Speaker 1: when there was no basis for reality, and they probably
- 19:16Speaker 1: feel like you were trying to take that from them.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Maybe I look, I said it yesterday again, didn't nobody
- 19:25Speaker 5: saw it or heard it or whatever, But there was
- 19:27Speaker 5: good things to take away from the offense on Sunday,
- 19:30Speaker 5: Their second quarter was really really good. The two drives
- 19:33Speaker 5: they put together in the second quarter were two of
- 19:35Speaker 5: the better scripted drives that I've seen them have in
- 19:37Speaker 5: a long time. But at the same time those two drives,
- 19:41Speaker 5: the play calls worked, the line held up, the receivers
- 19:44Speaker 5: ran the right routes, like everything synced up for them
- 19:47Speaker 5: to put those plays together. And my concern is what
- 19:51Speaker 5: happens when the pocket's a little bit muddy, what happens
- 19:54Speaker 5: when the receivers run the wrong routes? Like can you
- 19:57Speaker 5: make up for those types of things and or can
- 20:00Speaker 5: you just be perfect all the time? Because being perfect
- 20:02Speaker 5: all the time is completely unrealistic. And that's what the
- 20:06Speaker 5: difference is is these other teams that have Tyreek Hill,
- 20:10Speaker 5: that have a J Brown, they can mess up on
- 20:13Speaker 5: a play on first down, and then they come back
- 20:15Speaker 5: on second down and they hit a seventy yarder like.
- 20:18Speaker 3: For instance, driving down the length of the field and
- 20:20Speaker 3: we'll get it back to Miami now fumbling inside the
- 20:22Speaker 3: five yard line and still scoring thirty six points, Like,
- 20:25Speaker 3: it's not the reason that you ended up with twenty.
- 20:28Speaker 3: So they had a pick in an interception. In that game,
- 20:32Speaker 3: old friend J C. Jackson had a pick. He also
- 20:34Speaker 3: had a colossal little stupid that.
- 20:36Speaker 8: Was when he just shoved the guy to It was
- 20:38Speaker 8: just named AFC offensive players.
- 20:40Speaker 1: He was as expected as Fred predicted.
- 20:45Speaker 5: How was the best game I've ever seen to a play?
- 20:48Speaker 3: The throw he had climbing the pocket downfield to Tyreek
- 20:52Speaker 3: Hill was sick.
- 20:53Speaker 1: That was a good throw.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not like a to a guy.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm not a huge He showed me something, and.
- 21:00Speaker 8: I really think he's good. I just think the only
- 21:02Speaker 8: thing is it's him verse concussions. Like that's pretty much
- 21:04Speaker 8: well that.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I mean, you know for all the people that just
- 21:07Speaker 3: say it's it's Waddle and Hill, and obviously that's a
- 21:10Speaker 3: huge part of their explosiveness. But it didn't look like
- 21:14Speaker 3: that when Teddy Bridgewater, who was a competent NFL player,
- 21:17Speaker 3: right he's not, he's but I mean he started a
- 21:20Speaker 3: lot of games in this league, didn't look like any
- 21:23Speaker 3: anything like that. I mean, I'm not not comparing Skylo
- 21:26Speaker 3: Thompson seventh round rookie, but when Teddy Bridgewater played last year,
- 21:30Speaker 3: it did not look the same.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 21:32Speaker 8: I don't mean I don't want to say this as
- 21:33Speaker 8: a shot at MAC, but like you know, we when
- 21:35Speaker 8: he came out, it was accuracy and anticipation that you
- 21:38Speaker 8: were sold on, like somewhat, but I feel like Tua
- 21:41Speaker 8: has plus accuracy and anticipation in a way that is unique.
- 21:45Speaker 1: And I mean listen if and then you add his mobility.
- 21:49Speaker 1: You know, he's not a running but he can be
- 21:51Speaker 1: a little bit. He's you know, he could I dare
- 21:55Speaker 1: say it, but he could end up he could end
- 21:59Speaker 1: up having a career like Drew Brees where he's just
- 22:03Speaker 1: so accurate, such anticipation makes up for his lack of
- 22:07Speaker 1: size with with that, it's just like injuries, he could
- 22:13Speaker 1: have that type.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Of I mean, in fairness, at this time of Drew Brees' career,
- 22:17Speaker 3: they were.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Durabilities.
- 22:19Speaker 8: Oh sure, yeah, that's why he left the team, small
- 22:23Speaker 8: guy who was and sign him because of it.
- 22:25Speaker 1: But I you know, I mean.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Saban might still be the coach of the Dolphins.
- 22:29Speaker 8: It's just it's the unknown with concussions though, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 8: like that's like like you can say, well, he had
- 22:32Speaker 8: a shoulder injury. Did he come back from it was
- 22:34Speaker 8: the okay, yes, But like concussions, you just you don't know,
- 22:36Speaker 8: you never knows. He could be one hit away from
- 22:39Speaker 8: that one that really makes a dramatic turn.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Speaking of injuries, the Jets made it official yesterday that
- 22:45Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers did tear his achilles and he's out for
- 22:47Speaker 1: the season. It does suck for Jets. It sucks for
- 22:52Speaker 1: the NFL more so. I like, I don't care about
- 22:54Speaker 1: Jets fans, but it sucks for the league that he's
- 22:58Speaker 1: not in it this year.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, yeah, that was what I had to
- 23:02Speaker 8: pinch hit one of the shows yesterday. I got to
- 23:04Speaker 8: work with Zoe for the first.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Time, which was quite the experience.
- 23:06Speaker 8: But yeah, that was you know, he was I mean,
- 23:08Speaker 8: obviously as a former NFL quarterback, he's on the you know,
- 23:10Speaker 8: you never want to.
- 23:11Speaker 1: See anyone get injured, especially someone like that.
- 23:13Speaker 8: I do know a couple of Jets fans that I,
- 23:15Speaker 8: you know, feel bad about, Like it's you know, like
- 23:17Speaker 8: our fans like we're like, I feel like we're getting
- 23:20Speaker 8: a little bit frustrated, perhaps with the the way that
- 23:24Speaker 8: games kind of unfold continually for three years now, we've
- 23:26Speaker 8: been watching you know, like I know, a little different,
- 23:28Speaker 8: little more promise maybe, but like I just don't understand
- 23:32Speaker 8: some of the fans in our fan base that just
- 23:34Speaker 8: have their heads in the sand and are like, what,
- 23:36Speaker 8: everything's fine, Like we won a Super Bowl four years ago,
- 23:38Speaker 8: you know. But with Jets fans, it's like they got
- 23:41Speaker 8: to be apoplectic. Like I mean, it's like everyone predicted it,
- 23:44Speaker 8: like you just they're all on the same page. They're
- 23:46Speaker 8: all miserable, they all know what's gonna happen, and I
- 23:50Speaker 8: just feel I do feel bad for some of them.
- 23:52Speaker 5: On one of I think it might have been Good
- 23:53Speaker 5: Morning Football or one of the shows, Garrett Wilson was on,
- 23:55Speaker 5: and he said that Aaron Rodgers went up to him
- 23:57Speaker 5: and in the locker room after the game and said, sorry,
- 24:00Speaker 5: this was like, oh my goodness, Like, imagine a player
- 24:04Speaker 5: like that, that is such a talented receiver, and now
- 24:07Speaker 5: you think you have this MVP quarterback throwing you the
- 24:10Speaker 5: ball and you're gonna have this great year, and then
- 24:12Speaker 5: you have to go back to Zack Wilson throwing you
- 24:14Speaker 5: the football. And he still had a thousand yards even
- 24:16Speaker 5: with Zach Wilson throwing him the ball.
- 24:17Speaker 3: So it'll be it'll be interesting to see what they
- 24:19Speaker 3: do because I know they have to embrace Zach Wilson now.
- 24:22Speaker 3: But I mean I think we all sort of expected
- 24:25Speaker 3: not to go great. You know, I do think there
- 24:28Speaker 3: are some options that would be better. And I'm not
- 24:31Speaker 3: saying like obviously we joked around about Tom yesterday.
- 24:35Speaker 4: But like.
- 24:37Speaker 3: There's some backups, and I mean, like case Keenum is
- 24:40Speaker 3: in Houston, right, Like, don't you think he would give
- 24:43Speaker 3: them a better chance than Zach Wills.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I mean, I've seen enough of Zach Wilson to think, yes.
- 24:48Speaker 3: You know, even if they I mean, you could probably
- 24:50Speaker 3: get Davis Mills. I mean, they're gonna go to c J. Stroud.
- 24:52Speaker 3: I mean maybe they want to keep Keenum as the
- 24:54Speaker 3: veteran guy to sort of help c J.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Stroud. So you're saying to take a little bit of
- 24:57Speaker 1: maybe a sake a swing, but more of.
- 25:00Speaker 3: How about Chad Henny. Someone brought up Chad Henny to
- 25:03Speaker 3: me yesterday. He did a good job last year in
- 25:05Speaker 3: the playoffs when Mahomes had to come out. Now he retired,
- 25:08Speaker 3: so he hasn't done anything. Again, I'm not talking about
- 25:12Speaker 3: I'm not talking about something well that would be worse,
- 25:14Speaker 3: but I'm not talking about Sunday Like obviously, Zach Wilson's
- 25:18Speaker 3: what Silas said yesterday, you have to say, and I
- 25:20Speaker 3: think that he's he struck all the right courts I got.
- 25:23Speaker 3: But assuming that we're right, and three weeks from now
- 25:29Speaker 3: the Jets can't move the ball and he can't stop
- 25:32Speaker 3: throwing interceptions, like, you should have something ready to go
- 25:36Speaker 3: beyond what they I know they promoted somebody from the
- 25:38Speaker 3: practice squad right yesterday. Probably we should probably mention the
- 25:42Speaker 3: Patriots signed a practice squad quarterback ian book and book
- 25:45Speaker 3: Notre Dame not here the effort to get smaller and
- 25:49Speaker 3: smaller at quarterback in today at six feet.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Oh he's I don't know about that. Yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 5: I was listening to one of Paul shows yesterday on
- 25:56Speaker 5: my way home and they mentioned with the Jets, you
- 25:59Speaker 5: just need two thousand fifteen Peyton Manning, right, like you
- 26:01Speaker 5: just need like the veteran quarterback that doesn't turn the
- 26:05Speaker 5: ball over, that knows where to go with the football.
- 26:07Speaker 5: You know, Peyton didn't have great arm talent back.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I think Chad Henny could be that.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Yeah, if I was them, they're not since they're not
- 26:14Speaker 5: gonna get Brady, I would call Philip Rivers. I would
- 26:18Speaker 5: call Philip Rivers.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And fifteen kids to his eye.
- 26:21Speaker 3: But if he's if he's been out now for a
- 26:23Speaker 3: couple of years, three years, two years, Matt Ryan.
- 26:27Speaker 1: What they went three years right to be? The third
- 26:30Speaker 1: year is they went Carson Wentz Matt Ryan, Yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 5: He just now he's got that. Philip Rivers is. Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 5: he's he's going to be just a game manager.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I see now, I don't know forties forties.
- 26:45Speaker 3: That that class, Eli, Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. I
- 26:50Speaker 3: mean they've been out now, yeah, they're.
- 26:51Speaker 5: They're all retired.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
- 26:53Speaker 8: I think the thing that's weird too about four draft class,
- 26:56Speaker 8: there's such a an angst towards Zach Wilson, and they
- 27:00Speaker 8: had no choice but to go back to him. So
- 27:01Speaker 8: it was just such a jarring thing to go from
- 27:03Speaker 8: so much hope and promise and excitement.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Hey, if he wasn't there, second were all pick of
- 27:07Speaker 3: the draft, Mike, they probably would have cut him when
- 27:09Speaker 3: they signed Rogers and kept they'd done something to keep
- 27:12Speaker 3: Mike White. Now they got no choice to Mike White
- 27:14Speaker 3: is another one of these guys that I think somehow
- 27:18Speaker 3: is considered to be something he's not.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I mean, he went on he's like what you talked
- 27:21Speaker 1: about that he went one.
- 27:22Speaker 3: In three as the starter last year. I mean, as
- 27:25Speaker 3: bad as Zach Wilson was, they went five and four
- 27:26Speaker 3: when he started. I don't know that Mike White would
- 27:31Speaker 3: have them in any better spot right now. I mean,
- 27:33Speaker 3: he's sort of a reckless guy who takes a lot
- 27:36Speaker 3: of chances.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna make it. I'm going to make a prediction
- 27:38Speaker 1: and probably gonna pooh poo me, but I think Zach
- 27:41Speaker 1: Wilson is going to be better than people think.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Yeah, well, that's one of those things that can't be
- 27:45Speaker 3: pooh pooed because I don't know what people think, what people.
- 27:49Speaker 8: What everyone thinks that'll be okay, you think they'll make
- 27:52Speaker 8: it to the end of the season as their starter.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I think I think they're going to compete. Yeah, I think.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I don't think last year, right I don't think they're
- 27:59Speaker 1: out of the playoff race.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I don't think they're out of the playoff race either.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think they're out of the Super Bowl race.
- 28:04Speaker 5: I think what's crazy about Zach Wilson is like even
- 28:08Speaker 5: he can't even game manage like and to me, like
- 28:11Speaker 5: that's like the the bottom line for a quarterback is
- 28:15Speaker 5: if you can't add all of the extra stuff that
- 28:18Speaker 5: like a Mahomes or an Allen there just don't just
- 28:20Speaker 5: just don't ruin it. All he's got to do is
- 28:22Speaker 5: hand the ball off to Breeze Hall and run play
- 28:23Speaker 5: action like that's it, like and he still just can't
- 28:26Speaker 5: even You.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Point the first one, the game at the Metalwlands last year,
- 28:30Speaker 3: if he had just been a game manager, the Jets
- 28:32Speaker 3: would have won that game. Yeah, the second one, he
- 28:34Speaker 3: needed to make some plays and they couldn't.
- 28:36Speaker 8: I remember what like when him coming out too, it
- 28:38Speaker 8: was such a talk of just you know, his arm
- 28:40Speaker 8: talent and his ability like off platform, you know, late
- 28:43Speaker 8: in the down throw the ball downfield and in the NFL,
- 28:46Speaker 8: those look like the times where he's most.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Like, oh god, if I were a Jet fan, until
- 28:51Speaker 3: I saw him moving backwards, just I would just have
- 28:54Speaker 3: a cow. I don't know how. I don't know how
- 28:56Speaker 3: as a Jet fan you can watch him and not
- 28:58Speaker 3: have anxiety.
- 28:59Speaker 5: They forced him out of the pocket in one of
- 29:01Speaker 5: the matchups last year. That was actually the game plan
- 29:03Speaker 5: was to flush him because they knew that once he
- 29:05Speaker 5: got on the move, was going to chuck it to
- 29:08Speaker 5: Devin mccorty three times, so they literally moments designed the
- 29:12Speaker 5: plan to make him throw on the move.
- 29:14Speaker 8: Well, was it you talking to dmac at about the
- 29:17Speaker 8: plan against Wilson and just being.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Like, he will give us the ball.
- 29:21Speaker 8: I forget where I heard that, but somebody.
- 29:24Speaker 5: After the game was that game? I distinctly remember just
- 29:26Speaker 5: telling us that they wanted to have the pass rush
- 29:30Speaker 5: tee off, force him out of the pocket and just
- 29:32Speaker 5: push him into the sideline and make him make a throw.
- 29:35Speaker 3: And he did, but kind of like too, was going
- 29:38Speaker 3: to give you some opportunities. He will throw some up
- 29:41Speaker 3: to you.
- 29:41Speaker 4: He will.
- 29:42Speaker 3: He trust his receivers and he'll throw them up. And
- 29:45Speaker 3: the other part two tremendously talented guys, right, He'll and Waddle.
- 29:50Speaker 3: They don't have a ton beyond that. They don't run
- 29:54Speaker 3: the ball very well. Their offensive line is weak Durham spink,
- 29:58Speaker 3: and they don't really you know, they don't really throw
- 30:00Speaker 3: the tight ends. They don't have a lot of depth
- 30:04Speaker 3: at receiver. Listen, they are very good. You know last
- 30:09Speaker 3: year they they were pretty productive with Hill and Waddle
- 30:14Speaker 3: and they kept the score down because I think the
- 30:17Speaker 3: score kind of got out of hand seventeen nothing at
- 30:19Speaker 3: the half if I remember correctly, But you know, Hill
- 30:22Speaker 3: had like eighty or ninety yards and Waddle had the
- 30:25Speaker 3: big play in the game on the fourth down. I
- 30:28Speaker 3: don't know if that's enough. Like they're gonna have to
- 30:31Speaker 3: find other things to do in order to put up
- 30:34Speaker 3: some big numbers.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Miami, okay, Robin writes, and he says he's in Alaska.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I love Tuesday Show. It was like Eric was back.
- 30:43Speaker 1: What we talked a lot of football. Yeah, Rozzie, I
- 30:51Speaker 1: agree with Evan. Nope, I don't think he was overly negative.
- 30:54Speaker 1: As I understood it. The critique was not of Mac.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It was of the Patriots roster building philosophy. They haven't
- 31:00Speaker 1: had enough talented people around that to build a winning team.
- 31:03Speaker 1: They spend in draft to have sustained success, like Belichick's words, However,
- 31:08Speaker 1: without elite skill players, they are headed for sustained mediocrity.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Can I pick at that that sentence a little bit?
- 31:17Speaker 3: They draft to sustain, how does like so? In other words,
- 31:25Speaker 3: if you drafted receivers, you can't sustain like if you don't. Now, clearly,
- 31:29Speaker 3: Bill he drafted three straight first three rounds, three defensive guys,
- 31:34Speaker 3: but that's an eye toward being better for a longer
- 31:37Speaker 3: period of time than immediately.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I don't really see the core.
- 31:41Speaker 8: Criticisms we've had of the draft is with the inability
- 31:44Speaker 8: to sustain positions like the tackle spot that all of
- 31:47Speaker 8: a sudden you just don't have to tackles.
- 31:49Speaker 3: To address the needs that you know, I mean, the
- 31:52Speaker 3: experts we used to see, well, yeah, you know, bigger,
- 31:54Speaker 3: but you know, you used to see the planet at
- 31:56Speaker 3: at the you know, receiving third down back.
- 31:59Speaker 1: You know, they always had pipeline.
- 32:00Speaker 8: They had pipelines and positions that you could kind of
- 32:02Speaker 8: establish and say, all right, that guy's going to go.
- 32:05Speaker 1: You know, Matt Light's going to retire.
- 32:06Speaker 8: We just drafted Solder, we got Volmer, you know, like
- 32:08Speaker 8: it's all it's all in place, and they've been chasing
- 32:10Speaker 8: their tail, especially the offensive line, for a while.
- 32:13Speaker 3: And listen, I started and like the I like the
- 32:17Speaker 3: the idea of what they did on defense. And first
- 32:19Speaker 3: of all, cornerback was an enormous need that very few
- 32:22Speaker 3: people felt like the way we did going into the
- 32:24Speaker 3: draft process, we all felt that cornerback was in the
- 32:27Speaker 3: top handful of needs. So we all love the Gonzales pick.
- 32:32Speaker 3: But you know, you look at the key On White,
- 32:33Speaker 3: which is one that I will admit that I kind
- 32:35Speaker 3: of scratched my head on, not because of the player,
- 32:37Speaker 3: but because of the spot, and you just kind of wonder,
- 32:41Speaker 3: are they looking at him and maybe they looking at
- 32:43Speaker 3: Barmore like they to me, They've given Barmore some chances
- 32:46Speaker 3: both in the summer on the practice field and then
- 32:49Speaker 3: to start the game the other day, and that looked great.
- 32:51Speaker 3: He played well as a three down guy. I don't
- 32:54Speaker 3: think that he looks as good I you know, that's
- 32:57Speaker 3: my guy, Like I am holding on to Barre. That
- 33:00Speaker 3: was my favorite pick that they've made in recent memory.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I haven't seen the dominant four like I saw key
- 33:05Speaker 3: On White a lot the other day, and he didn't play.
- 33:09Speaker 5: You know what I thought was bettern review Like, I
- 33:12Speaker 5: didn't notice him live either very much.
- 33:14Speaker 3: But I thought they ran the ball pretty well in
- 33:17Speaker 3: the early part of that game when a guy came
- 33:20Speaker 3: in and I thought it kind of changed. But as well,
- 33:22Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about as an all around play.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you, Travis. I love but you know
- 33:27Speaker 1: that Gouse. Guys know that I have a I have
- 33:29Speaker 1: a crush on him.
- 33:30Speaker 8: But can I make a real quick point Fred, It's like,
- 33:32Speaker 8: but see, like that's the things they do on defense,
- 33:33Speaker 8: like they take weird like the chances they trade up
- 33:35Speaker 8: for Barmore, they don't.
- 33:36Speaker 1: You know, even if that's what I'm wondering, is is
- 33:38Speaker 1: keyon White?
- 33:39Speaker 3: You know, we know Lawrence guy's going you know, if
- 33:41Speaker 3: it's not next years, he probably will be gone next year,
- 33:44Speaker 3: you know, godchild will be He's getting a little older
- 33:47Speaker 3: to you know, maybe they're looking at Barmore's like, well,
- 33:49Speaker 3: he's a situational guy. We're trying to see if he's
- 33:51Speaker 3: more than that sort of paving the way for losing
- 33:54Speaker 3: him after next year. You know, I don't know, Yeah,
- 33:57Speaker 3: Like I just I wonder if that's the thought prop Well, the.
- 34:00Speaker 8: Point I was going to try to tie it too,
- 34:01Speaker 8: is just they don't really take those chances on offense,
- 34:03Speaker 8: like you know, they don't really like, Wow, they didn't
- 34:05Speaker 8: really need this, like you know, I mean I guess
- 34:07Speaker 8: you could maybe say like Sony Michelle, which obviously didn't
- 34:10Speaker 8: work out, but it was kind of like they don't
- 34:12Speaker 8: really need a running back, like especially not in the
- 34:14Speaker 8: first round, but that you know, they took a kind
- 34:15Speaker 8: of a chance on it.
- 34:16Speaker 1: They take chances, but like why like they took a chance,
- 34:19Speaker 1: Like taking Taekwon Thornton in the second round is taking
- 34:22Speaker 1: a chance r But is it a good chance to take? Yeah,
- 34:24Speaker 1: that's that's the misevaluation.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that that's like with the tackle spot,
- 34:30Speaker 5: because I agree with you one hundred percent that they
- 34:32Speaker 5: have been chasing their tail on tackle since really like
- 34:36Speaker 5: Nate Solder left and then like they had the year
- 34:38Speaker 5: with Trent Brown to bridge the gap in twenty eighteen.
- 34:41Speaker 5: But what it comes back down to is that Isaiah
- 34:44Speaker 5: Win was supposed to be the left tackle and they
- 34:46Speaker 5: missed on the pick. And I think the same thing thing,
- 34:50Speaker 5: at least so far, can be saying for Taekwon, Like
- 34:53Speaker 5: that throw that Mac made to Kaishon Boodie at the
- 34:56Speaker 5: end of the game, that's supposed to be Taekwon Thornton
- 34:59Speaker 5: on other side. And now we're talking about Taekwon Thornton
- 35:03Speaker 5: in year two and with Mac again, and like if
- 35:06Speaker 5: he's a if he's George Pickens, then you know it's
- 35:09Speaker 5: a I'm not like to do that whole thing, but
- 35:11Speaker 5: like it's it. And then and so now they're chasing
- 35:14Speaker 5: their tail again at wide receiver, looking for top end
- 35:17Speaker 5: wide receiver talent because they missed on the pick at
- 35:19Speaker 5: least so far. So that's like the repeat of what
- 35:22Speaker 5: I see with them. And like Barth and I when
- 35:24Speaker 5: we do our draft, like we've been talking about tackles for.
- 35:28Speaker 1: It feels like every year they have to take on every.
- 35:30Speaker 5: Broken record every year. It's like, you know we're talking
- 35:33Speaker 5: about it.
- 35:33Speaker 1: They just overthink it, you know, like we're not going
- 35:36Speaker 1: to take the consensus number two valued receiver. We're gonna
- 35:40Speaker 1: take this guy from a small school, and you know,
- 35:43Speaker 1: because we know he's better than others, you.
- 35:45Speaker 8: Know, well, especially on the offensive side of the ball,
- 35:47Speaker 8: like you know, like trading up to take a tackle
- 35:49Speaker 8: from Alabama, like not a you know, not a huge
- 35:52Speaker 8: like thought prop like yeat, yes, but.
- 35:54Speaker 1: You know Isaiah Win, Like is he a guard the whole?
- 35:57Speaker 8: Like the second you drafted him, you thought he might
- 35:59Speaker 8: be a guard because of his there's always a yeah,
- 36:01Speaker 8: but Forton, Yeah, he's the fastest guy. But you know,
- 36:03Speaker 8: we know about his wrists and you know, I mean
- 36:05Speaker 8: that was just the fact that he's really skinny, and
- 36:08Speaker 8: I think that's played out. He started both years on
- 36:10Speaker 8: IR he has you know, contact issues, doesn't is not
- 36:13Speaker 8: strong going up at the for the catch points.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I did see one really funny. You know, those whole
- 36:18Speaker 3: you know sometimes the memes, you know, they get you,
- 36:21Speaker 3: the tweets, you know, like you're like, all right whatever.
- 36:25Speaker 3: So it was kind of one that made me laugh.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It was the Patriots, you know, maneuvering around to keep
- 36:30Speaker 3: the Jets from getting a tackle from the first round.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Roderick Jones, Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 3: And then Aaron.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Jess Checkers.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Yep, that one made me laugh.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I have to admit, Travis in West Virginia, why does
- 36:43Speaker 1: the audience give two craps whether or not you're positive
- 36:47Speaker 1: or negative. I've never understood that. I listened to the
- 36:49Speaker 1: show for information and entertainment. Your positivity or negativity is
- 36:54Speaker 1: your choice and has no effect on me or the team. Well,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I think a lot of people like you, of the
- 37:00Speaker 1: guy who lives in Kansas City and is in Kansas
- 37:02Speaker 1: City land. It has to hear from those fans. They
- 37:04Speaker 1: come here for a safe place, and then they get
- 37:07Speaker 1: here and then and then they get hit over the
- 37:09Speaker 1: head and it's like, oh even there.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I mean for me, and you know, I know you
- 37:13Speaker 3: make fun of me a lot, Fred for listening to
- 37:15Speaker 3: my shows. The shows that I like are the ones
- 37:17Speaker 3: that I feel like actually tell you what they think
- 37:20Speaker 3: as opposed to what you want to hear both ways.
- 37:23Speaker 3: I don't want negativity for the sake of negativity either,
- 37:26Speaker 3: like that that that to me is not balanced when
- 37:28Speaker 3: you just say like, well, yeah, like like I said,
- 37:31Speaker 3: I was somewhere between Evan and Fred yesterday, Like, but
- 37:36Speaker 3: that doesn't mean I'm right. That was just my view
- 37:37Speaker 3: of the game, you know, Like I don't I don't
- 37:39Speaker 3: want Fred's take just because that's quote a safe space.
- 37:43Speaker 3: And I don't want Evan's take because well, you know,
- 37:45Speaker 3: we want to be like Felgrim Mass you know, like
- 37:47Speaker 3: we just you know, Adam Jones, we just want to
- 37:49Speaker 3: like criticize every element. No, I don't think that's what
- 37:51Speaker 3: Evan was doing yesterday, And I don't want to listen really,
- 37:56Speaker 3: but I don't.
- 37:58Speaker 5: Feel like that's not like we This is the other
- 38:00Speaker 5: thing that I took a little exception to is like
- 38:03Speaker 5: I'm not negative for the sake of negative, Like right,
- 38:05Speaker 5: it they play a good game and they and they
- 38:08Speaker 5: put good stuff on film. I say it was good,
- 38:11Speaker 5: like the defense was good on Sunday. I've said that repeatedly.
- 38:14Speaker 5: The defense was good on Sunday. But if I have
- 38:17Speaker 5: to be I have to be objective, Like I can't
- 38:19Speaker 5: just sit here and be positive just because I like.
- 38:22Speaker 5: And so that's why all these people that are coming
- 38:24Speaker 5: after me, it's like, come after me. I guess like,
- 38:26Speaker 5: I'm not gonna like change just because you want me
- 38:28Speaker 5: to be positive.
- 38:29Speaker 8: I tell you, like, you don't want that smoke.
- 38:34Speaker 1: It just it is what it is, like they are
- 38:37Speaker 1: what they are spiing Fresno. It was only a couple
- 38:39Speaker 1: of years ago that a bright eyed Mike, I won't
- 38:42Speaker 1: forget you, Brady through so turned his spurn back on Tom,
- 38:46Speaker 1: digging his heels deep into the turf to pledge the
- 38:48Speaker 1: leegions to Bill as the great rebuild began. Yet by
- 38:51Speaker 1: now the fire in Mike's mighty lighthouse has dwindled, having
- 38:56Speaker 1: all but gone out. The once great champ now a
- 38:58Speaker 1: study in Mopish, and in that vein we have likewise
- 39:04Speaker 1: seen a noteworthy turning of the tides. Within the daunting
- 39:07Speaker 1: mind of Evan Lazar, the once staunch apologist for young McClellan,
- 39:11Speaker 1: is now way down on Mac. Perhaps our esteemed all
- 39:15Speaker 1: twenty twur has seen enough to conclude, as some of
- 39:18Speaker 1: us have a long apine, that Mac's skill set and
- 39:21Speaker 1: not simply the situation around him, is probably not up
- 39:25Speaker 1: to the task of clutch play in the moments that
- 39:27Speaker 1: win or lose NFL games. I disagree with that, which
- 39:30Speaker 1: brings me to my question, what would Mac have to
- 39:33Speaker 1: do to reclaim Evan's love? A poem flowers? Maybe feed
- 39:37Speaker 1: and walk Atlas for a month? Could a Mac Jones
- 39:40Speaker 1: rap video do the trip? But seriously, what would he
- 39:43Speaker 1: have to do to redeem himself on the field? If
- 39:46Speaker 1: Coach Lazar is indeed tapped to be New England's next OC,
- 39:50Speaker 1: the bridge between QB and his future nerd overlord must
- 39:54Speaker 1: be restored.
- 39:55Speaker 4: I don't even know what the mess.
- 39:59Speaker 5: I what could Mac do? It's more like what could
- 40:04Speaker 5: Bill do for Mac? I think that would get me
- 40:06Speaker 5: more so on board. I I have been optimistic about
- 40:11Speaker 5: Mac since they drafted him and given him a fair
- 40:14Speaker 5: shake of thinking that that he could develop into a
- 40:18Speaker 5: better player than what he currently is. And I just
- 40:21Speaker 5: I don't know if that other shoe is gonna drop
- 40:24Speaker 5: with him. But what I do know what they could
- 40:26Speaker 5: do if this is the quarterback that they're gonna have,
- 40:28Speaker 5: is upgrade what's around him. And I think that's like
- 40:31Speaker 5: the chicken or the egg debate in my head that
- 40:33Speaker 5: I constantly have with this offense and with Mac Jones,
- 40:36Speaker 5: is should they rely on Mac getting better or should
- 40:41Speaker 5: they just accept the fact that this is who Mac
- 40:43Speaker 5: is and make the situation around him better? Because right
- 40:46Speaker 5: now they're middling it, which is to me why they're
- 40:49Speaker 5: eight to nine is because they're they're they're just kind
- 40:52Speaker 5: of right, They're they're playing it right down the middle
- 40:55Speaker 5: of saying, well, Mac might get a little bit better
- 40:57Speaker 5: and we're gonna maybe get a little bit better receive
- 41:00Speaker 5: for him, and like hopefully that but it just doesn't work.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and right now this stuck. I mean, they're not
- 41:06Speaker 1: gonna do anything this year. I mean there's no number
- 41:09Speaker 1: one receiver that they're going to bring in this year.
- 41:12Speaker 1: So we have what we have this year. Hopefully Parker
- 41:15Speaker 1: comes back.
- 41:16Speaker 3: So you know, I got my eye on somebody. Oh
- 41:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna watch Cincinnati a little bit. Oh T Higgins,
- 41:23Speaker 3: I'm watching. I'm watching the Bengals and see what what
- 41:26Speaker 3: goes on. It didn't look, he was much involved the
- 41:28Speaker 3: other day he was.
- 41:30Speaker 5: He was actually targeted like eight times and zero catches.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Okay, I'll take I'll take my take back.
- 41:35Speaker 3: I only saw this was like ie the eight okay,
- 41:37Speaker 3: so I'll take that. I'll take that back. I saw
- 41:40Speaker 3: them throw into some guy number five. But that wasn't Higgins,
- 41:42Speaker 3: was it? Did Higgins change his number?
- 41:44Speaker 5: Was he really tall?
- 41:46Speaker 3: Maybe it was Higgins and it was he changed his number?
- 41:48Speaker 3: And that that got me because I was just watching
- 41:49Speaker 3: the little monitor over here on on red Zone. I
- 41:52Speaker 3: didn't actually see any of the real highlights of I
- 41:55Speaker 3: would definitely so never mind about that quick aside, Evan.
- 41:59Speaker 8: I think practice is in the bubble today. Michael Bublay,
- 42:03Speaker 8: Michael Buble, Sorry, the socios dot com field House.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Please say correctly.
- 42:08Speaker 1: Here we go, all right, eight five five past five
- 42:10Speaker 1: hundred is the ACE ticket hotline. Let's go to the phones.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Todd's in North Carolina. What's up, Todd?
- 42:17Speaker 7: Hey, guys.
- 42:17Speaker 9: I think why a lot of the negative perception is
- 42:20Speaker 9: because it's the way that this particular group is. You
- 42:22Speaker 9: got snarky Paul, you know, sneaky negative deuce and then
- 42:26Speaker 9: not so sneaky negative Evan all coming out, and I
- 42:29Speaker 9: think what's leeding into it is their frustration with the team,
- 42:32Speaker 9: because they want the team to be good, so when
- 42:34Speaker 9: they're making their comments, that leads into it. And everybody
- 42:37Speaker 9: and only we only have Fred here trying to defend
- 42:39Speaker 9: against the three, whereas before it was just like it
- 42:42Speaker 9: was because Eric didn't count right right.
- 42:45Speaker 1: He had no opinion.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Exactly what is Fred defending? What is Fred defending?
- 42:50Speaker 4: Again?
- 42:52Speaker 1: I'm defending Hope.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Okay, but we all have Hope. I think we all
- 42:57Speaker 3: said that right. It doesn't come on very encouraging after is.
- 43:01Speaker 9: What if people read your articles? You actually accent the
- 43:05Speaker 9: positive in your articles, but when you're on the radio,
- 43:08Speaker 9: it seems to come across more. It seems like you're
- 43:10Speaker 9: focusing more on the negative about what needs to be done,
- 43:13Speaker 9: what's lacking and stuff. But in your articles you say
- 43:15Speaker 9: positive stuff like Pop having his first experience, even Booty
- 43:19Speaker 9: getting some time, and like people need to read the
- 43:22Speaker 9: articles you guys write and listen to the show in
- 43:25Speaker 9: order to get the full picture.
- 43:26Speaker 5: I think that, yeah, yeah, I agree with that. I
- 43:30Speaker 5: wish that yesterday. My one critique of myself is that
- 43:33Speaker 5: I feel like in and after further review, I told
- 43:37Speaker 5: both sides of the story a little bit better in
- 43:40Speaker 5: terms of the chicken or the egg that I just
- 43:43Speaker 5: broke down of, Like, it's obviously it's not all Mac
- 43:45Speaker 5: Jones's fault that they lost on Sunday. No one's saying that.
- 43:48Speaker 5: But you have to call the film for what it is.
- 43:52Speaker 5: But at the same time, you can acknowledge that there
- 43:54Speaker 5: was a lot of context of there's guys injured, they
- 43:57Speaker 5: probably could have done more in the off season to
- 43:59Speaker 5: help him, and this is where we're at. So thanks
- 44:03Speaker 5: for saying that, Todd, because I agree.
- 44:04Speaker 9: Forward, what's one thing that needs to change in order
- 44:07Speaker 9: for Mac to be successful that when we can have change,
- 44:10Speaker 9: like does he need to have Juju get healthy? Does
- 44:12Speaker 9: he need a goal line.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Back beat a good team? He needs to play better
- 44:15Speaker 1: all of that or.
- 44:16Speaker 9: Just can get like one or two things.
- 44:18Speaker 8: Only the team has to start beating good teams. I mean,
- 44:21Speaker 8: it's just you know, you have to break the rut
- 44:23Speaker 8: of the last three years, and that's you know. Look,
- 44:25Speaker 8: I mean, I mean, I love speeds email.
- 44:27Speaker 1: It was very well I think I think overall, thanks
- 44:30Speaker 1: for the call to they can't be constantly in third
- 44:33Speaker 1: and long and in obvious passing situations. You know that
- 44:38Speaker 1: there's things that have to happen to help Mac, and
- 44:40Speaker 1: then Mac needs to help himself.
- 44:42Speaker 8: It's both, which goes to you got to be productive
- 44:44Speaker 8: on first down or you're screwed.
- 44:45Speaker 1: You know. So it's just it's right back to Evan's thing.
- 44:47Speaker 8: But I don't know, just going back to the bigger point,
- 44:50Speaker 8: it's like, you know, I appreciate what Speed wrote. You know,
- 44:52Speaker 8: when I started here, we were coming off of the
- 44:54Speaker 8: sixth Super Bowl, and we've watched four seasons of five
- 44:57Speaker 8: hundred football. So I'm sorry that I'm not still just like,
- 45:01Speaker 8: isn't this awesome? Like, and I struggle to see people
- 45:04Speaker 8: who are still like that, Like we've been watching what
- 45:05Speaker 8: we've been watching, and I feel like, to Evan's point,
- 45:08Speaker 8: it's been like a slow motion car crash this year
- 45:10Speaker 8: because a lot of the things that we talked about
- 45:12Speaker 8: for six months were not addressed, and now they're coming
- 45:14Speaker 8: home to roost and everyone wants us to be fine
- 45:16Speaker 8: with it. And it's like when we're there talking about
- 45:19Speaker 8: twenty five different tackles at the combine, being like they
- 45:21Speaker 8: got to get one of these guys and instead, they
- 45:24Speaker 8: draft a guy from what Eastern Michigan who was a
- 45:27Speaker 8: left guard and try to make him.
- 45:28Speaker 5: A tackle and then played him at right guard and
- 45:31Speaker 5: then played him at.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Right guard with like a week of meet while like the.
- 45:33Speaker 3: One that was taken in the fourth round is starting
- 45:36Speaker 3: right right to.
- 45:37Speaker 8: Want Jones, who's a monster and looks like you know,
- 45:39Speaker 8: you imagine when he was.
- 45:40Speaker 3: I don't know what he's going to be.
- 45:42Speaker 1: But still it's I will.
- 45:44Speaker 5: Say I in all fairness to Mac, like you know,
- 45:47Speaker 5: the callers are asking like what's I am reserving like
- 45:51Speaker 5: complete judgment until the guards are back like it because
- 45:54Speaker 5: having the clean interior of the pocket for him in
- 45:58Speaker 5: particular is so massive because he needs to step into
- 46:01Speaker 5: the throws. He needs to step into it. And if
- 46:04Speaker 5: those two guys can come in and be really rock
- 46:06Speaker 5: solid up the middle with David Andrews, then it does
- 46:09Speaker 5: change some things about their outlook.
- 46:11Speaker 1: To me, I absolutely agree with that.
- 46:13Speaker 3: And what we analyze is the game not like what's
- 46:17Speaker 3: you know necessarily like I don't think anybody here is
- 46:20Speaker 3: saying like it's time to pull the plug, like this
- 46:22Speaker 3: is done, this is over. They tried this, it didn't work.
- 46:25Speaker 3: It's done no, Like I think two weeks ago, we
- 46:27Speaker 3: were talking about entering a season with hope that Bill
- 46:30Speaker 3: O'Brien could help Mac Jones, that Adrian Klem could help
- 46:34Speaker 3: the offensive line, and we'll see what these things do.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I'm not going to just like give up on that
- 46:38Speaker 3: hope after a game when Fred comes like, I just
- 46:41Speaker 3: don't like the whole thing, like we're supposed to do
- 46:44Speaker 3: X when we analyze. Like when if I was listening
- 46:48Speaker 3: and I was completely you know, on the other side
- 46:51Speaker 3: of the dial, and Fred was saying things that I
- 46:54Speaker 3: agreed with, but I found out that he wasn't really
- 46:57Speaker 3: thinking that, he was just telling me what I wanted
- 46:58Speaker 3: to hear. Well, conversely, I was really down on the team,
- 47:02Speaker 3: and I heard Evan saying a bunch of stuff about
- 47:04Speaker 3: Mac Jones, you know, really didn't make that many plus
- 47:07Speaker 3: throws in the game, and I'd agreed with me, But
- 47:10Speaker 3: then I found out later that Evan was just being
- 47:13Speaker 3: negative because he was trying to put some bad like
- 47:15Speaker 3: I don't want to listen to those shows. I don't
- 47:17Speaker 3: want to listen to guys that don't tell me what
- 47:18Speaker 3: they really think, you know, this whole thing like, well
- 47:21Speaker 3: you're right, and then you accentuate that. No what, no
- 47:24Speaker 3: one's like going out of their way to accentuate any
- 47:27Speaker 3: element of anything. My big takeaway on Sunday was the
- 47:30Speaker 3: defensive performance against a good offense. Someone else's takeaway may
- 47:34Speaker 3: have been the offense just can't do it when it counts. Again,
- 47:38Speaker 3: I don't think either one of those takeaways is wrong.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think that's what the fun of the
- 47:42Speaker 1: show is.
- 47:43Speaker 4: Though.
- 47:43Speaker 8: It's like, who would have predicted what the takes would
- 47:45Speaker 8: have been when we started that show yesterday? Like that,
- 47:47Speaker 8: you know that.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Wherever we don't talk about this stuff before we.
- 47:51Speaker 8: Come now like and that's what's you know, fun all
- 47:53Speaker 8: of a sudden. I mean, certainly we you know, the games,
- 47:55Speaker 8: we watched the game together. You know, sometimes when Evan
- 47:57Speaker 8: and Fred aren't there, you guys are away at away games.
- 48:00Speaker 8: It's always interesting because you see different things, you know,
- 48:02Speaker 8: and meanwhile, Paul and I are watching here. But I
- 48:05Speaker 8: mean that's you know, that's what's good. It's never rehearsed,
- 48:07Speaker 8: it's you know, how we feel.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Anthony's in Seattle. What's up Anthony? Hey?
- 48:12Speaker 10: What's up of my people?
- 48:13Speaker 4: Hey? Hey? Listen?
- 48:15Speaker 10: Am I allowed to say fist off. Sure, sure, all right, listen,
- 48:20Speaker 10: I promise I'll be careful. I've never cussed on the
- 48:22Speaker 10: show before. I'm not going to start today. I got
- 48:25Speaker 10: two quick things. There's no way I'm going to be
- 48:27Speaker 10: able to get all my thoughts out today. So I
- 48:28Speaker 10: got one thing that I just one specific thing that
- 48:31Speaker 10: I feel like hasn't been talked about, and then just
- 48:33Speaker 10: kind of one summary thing that I think best illustrates
- 48:37Speaker 10: my my frustration. But one thing that I think hasn't
- 48:41Speaker 10: kind of an underrated bad decision that I'm getting tired
- 48:44Speaker 10: of with Mac is when you get down. You got
- 48:46Speaker 10: first and ten from the eighteen yard line. You got
- 48:49Speaker 10: over a minute, you got plenty of time. I think
- 48:51Speaker 10: we had a time out, but we might have not,
- 48:53Speaker 10: but we didn't need one. We had plenty of time.
- 48:55Speaker 10: And the first thing you do, I thought it was
- 48:58Speaker 10: a Devonte Parker thing. Parker's not even in the game,
- 49:01Speaker 10: and you sold the fifty to fifty fade to Booty.
- 49:05Speaker 10: It's like he's got to fall out of love.
- 49:08Speaker 1: With that throw.
- 49:09Speaker 5: He actually he actually was open and in the ball.
- 49:12Speaker 5: He didn't give him a chance on the ball, which
- 49:14Speaker 5: I wonder if that's a Booty thing, Like, if that's
- 49:17Speaker 5: Parker in that spot instead of Booty, I gotta feel
- 49:20Speaker 5: like Mac puts that in bounds and let's Parker try
- 49:22Speaker 5: to go get the booth ball. I actually thought Booty
- 49:25Speaker 5: won the route and he sailed it over his head
- 49:28Speaker 5: out of bounds, which is weird.
- 49:29Speaker 10: Okay, I don't want to argue about that one the
- 49:32Speaker 10: big thing, so I can get off the phone. But
- 49:34Speaker 10: the reason I'm pissed off is because, Okay, if you
- 49:37Speaker 10: were to take the four units Patriots offense, Patriots defense,
- 49:40Speaker 10: Egles offense, Egos defense, I think everyone would agree who
- 49:43Speaker 10: had the best game Patriots defense, yep. But I think
- 49:47Speaker 10: if I was to list the four in my opinion,
- 49:50Speaker 10: I think if I was to list the four in order,
- 49:52Speaker 10: I think it would go Patriots defense, Patriots offense, Eagles defense,
- 49:57Speaker 10: Eagles offense, and we steal find in a way to
- 50:00Speaker 10: not win against these good teams. And that's the reason
- 50:05Speaker 10: I'm pissed off. It's like, after going down fifteen, Oh,
- 50:09Speaker 10: that's as thorough as we've out played a good team
- 50:12Speaker 10: since Brady left, and we still find a way to
- 50:15Speaker 10: not put it together. It's like you, rather, it's like
- 50:19Speaker 10: Mac doesn't trust you get down with the eighteen yard line.
- 50:21Speaker 10: You don't trust yourself to not trust yourself to throw
- 50:25Speaker 10: like three to five good you know, quality passes in
- 50:28Speaker 10: the middle of the field and go ahead.
- 50:30Speaker 4: And punch it in.
- 50:31Speaker 10: You want to get lucky and try to throw a
- 50:33Speaker 10: fifty to fifty one, you know, And you know at
- 50:37Speaker 10: that point in the game, they really didn't have an
- 50:39Speaker 10: answer for a Hunter Henry in the middle of the field.
- 50:41Speaker 10: I don't know, man, it's just it's getting old. We
- 50:43Speaker 10: got to start winning these quality games obviously. You know,
- 50:46Speaker 10: I got my Super Bowl prediction out there. I got
- 50:49Speaker 10: high ass you know, you know, expectations for this team,
- 50:52Speaker 10: and it's centered around this defense that did an excellent job.
- 50:56Speaker 10: You know, it's time, man, It's time. That's all I
- 50:59Speaker 10: got got.
- 50:59Speaker 1: Okay, In terms of the offense, I think next three games,
- 51:03Speaker 1: we'll have three opportunities quality games. You know, even without
- 51:07Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers, that defense is for real. We'll have three
- 51:10Speaker 1: good tests for this offense in after four games. Yeah,
- 51:15Speaker 1: let's see.
- 51:15Speaker 4: What we got. Well.
- 51:16Speaker 8: I think just to respond to his I mean to
- 51:18Speaker 8: his you know, ranking of the things in his turnovers,
- 51:20Speaker 8: like you throw a pick six and a fumble that
- 51:22Speaker 8: they score.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I mean, you know that's that was a That was
- 51:25Speaker 3: the big message today.
- 51:26Speaker 1: That's the big difference.
- 51:27Speaker 3: You know, you hear David Andrews, you heard Hunter Henry.
- 51:30Speaker 3: It's protecting the football and getting off to a faster start.
- 51:35Speaker 3: And really, you got to do that. This is not
- 51:37Speaker 3: a good defense you're facing Sunday night. This is a
- 51:39Speaker 3: defense you need to score now the next two Fred's right, Jets, Dallas,
- 51:43Speaker 3: those two defenses on the road run. But here's the thing,
- 51:46Speaker 3: no picnic at all.
- 51:47Speaker 1: It's not a great defense, but it is a great offense,
- 51:49Speaker 1: and that's going to put pressure on our offense to
- 51:53Speaker 1: keep up. Perhaps.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean if it's you know, if you
- 51:57Speaker 3: lose like the Chargers did, then I will I won't
- 52:00Speaker 3: sit here saying, well, you know, match, but if you
- 52:02Speaker 3: can't get out of the low twenties again, like right,
- 52:06Speaker 3: the other team just put third and four on.
- 52:08Speaker 1: So, if you're right, if the Miami defense is not
- 52:11Speaker 1: that good going off of what they did, we should
- 52:14Speaker 1: be expected to do better score wise, certainly than we
- 52:18Speaker 1: did in Week one.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Right, And that's Mike's I think that's back to Mike's
- 52:21Speaker 3: points of like you just have to protect the ball
- 52:24Speaker 3: and play four quarters and not one.
- 52:26Speaker 8: Yeah, and would I would just say too generally, Like
- 52:28Speaker 8: I mean I've said this many times on this show.
- 52:30Speaker 8: It's about the division, you know, Like, like I'm not
- 52:32Speaker 8: going to overreact to a Week one game against Philly
- 52:34Speaker 8: either way. I Mean, that's why I kind of feel
- 52:36Speaker 8: a little bit balanced about it. They're a unique team,
- 52:39Speaker 8: They're a talented team that they've had all year to
- 52:41Speaker 8: prepare for. But if you want to be successful, you
- 52:44Speaker 8: got to win in the division. And this is you know,
- 52:46Speaker 8: again to you haven't beaten them, You've had all this
- 52:48Speaker 8: time to prepare for him. These are the teams you
- 52:50Speaker 8: should know best. This is these are the teams that
- 52:52Speaker 8: you should be built to beat so you can get.
- 52:54Speaker 1: In the playoffs.
- 52:55Speaker 8: So, you know, I'm feeling down the middle right now,
- 52:58Speaker 8: but these next two games for me are the ones
- 53:01Speaker 8: that are really going to matter.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Mark's in Connecticut. What's up? Mark?
- 53:05Speaker 7: Hey?
- 53:06Speaker 11: Evan and che boy Mark. I just wanted to, you know,
- 53:08Speaker 11: back Evan up here and just say that me and
- 53:11Speaker 11: have talked about this on the Catch twenty two podcasts
- 53:14Speaker 11: all over the offseason. They needed to get Matt Jones
- 53:17Speaker 11: a number one receiver. They never did, and that's why
- 53:21Speaker 11: it cost them the game on Sunday. I mean, if
- 53:24Speaker 11: you have a legit number one guy, whoever it is,
- 53:28Speaker 11: they make that catch like they Flowers would have made
- 53:30Speaker 11: that catch. Whoever you want to put in there at
- 53:32Speaker 11: the number one receiver would have made that catch.
- 53:34Speaker 1: I think which catch are we talking about?
- 53:37Speaker 7: The booty?
- 53:38Speaker 1: The one on the side.
- 53:39Speaker 3: And but just out of curiosity, then what would have happened, Well,
- 53:44Speaker 3: it gives you, you know, you'd had.
- 53:45Speaker 1: One more plays, yeah first and yeah White nine or something,
- 53:49Speaker 1: and I.
- 53:50Speaker 11: Just but you're going to stress the defense guys.
- 53:54Speaker 3: Right, So maybe that number one option would have been covered.
- 53:57Speaker 1: But it starts with that play. I mean, you've got
- 53:59Speaker 1: to make those plays. You got to make those plays
- 54:01Speaker 1: down the stretch, right, you know, and.
- 54:03Speaker 3: The offense doesn't the offense that you know.
- 54:06Speaker 11: You go back to twenty eighteen, why did we pick
- 54:09Speaker 11: the dumbest wide receiver in the draft, Nikhil Harry? You
- 54:12Speaker 11: had DK Metcalf there, you had a J Brown there
- 54:14Speaker 11: at Deebo Samuel. Then you go to twenty nineteen. You
- 54:17Speaker 11: don't move up two spots to get Jefferson. I mean,
- 54:21Speaker 11: it's just time after time, and then you pick Taekwon Thornton.
- 54:24Speaker 11: You could have had George Pickens. It's just again and
- 54:26Speaker 11: again and again that Bill just can't for some reason
- 54:29Speaker 11: picked the good wide receiver.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's it's crazy. It's crazy.
- 54:34Speaker 3: I mean, I have no argue. I have no argument
- 54:36Speaker 3: with the draft.
- 54:37Speaker 1: My crazy did not want George Pickens. I get the
- 54:39Speaker 1: general point, But I just I loved George. He's a
- 54:42Speaker 1: hot head, and he just seems I don't that's bad.
- 54:45Speaker 8: It just seems volatile. I don't know. I just there's
- 54:47Speaker 8: something that just seems like.
- 54:49Speaker 3: But like over this, like Antonio Brown volatile.
- 54:51Speaker 1: Uh no, but but but shades of that. I mean,
- 54:54Speaker 1: Antonio Brown's Antonio Brown. But I don't know. There's just
- 54:56Speaker 1: something about George Pickens that seems like.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I if that's true, then I would
- 55:02Speaker 3: agree with you. I didn't know that about him.
- 55:04Speaker 1: What is that Brown?
- 55:08Speaker 3: They were making fun of the you guys that the
- 55:10Speaker 3: suits with the shorts. That's a big that was a
- 55:12Speaker 3: big thing on game day for players.
- 55:13Speaker 1: It's the socks that kill me. It's sassy.
- 55:15Speaker 3: But I don't know, I don't I don't like that. Look,
- 55:19Speaker 3: I think you want to try that one. I think
- 55:20Speaker 3: Jamie Collins had it.
- 55:21Speaker 1: It sounds all right. I had something like that. Yeah,
- 55:24Speaker 1: I mean he's he has his own fashion sense, Jamie Collins.
- 55:28Speaker 12: Uh.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Let's go to Brenton, Vermont. What's up brent.
- 55:32Speaker 7: Hey, boys, how you guys doing today?
- 55:33Speaker 1: Good? Good?
- 55:35Speaker 7: The first thing I want to say is I cannot
- 55:38Speaker 7: stand when Tony Romo comments not only the Patriots game,
- 55:43Speaker 7: but Patriots game in particular. I cannot stand his wishy,
- 55:47Speaker 7: washy crappy takes he has. So that's the first thing.
- 55:50Speaker 7: But second thing, my main thing I want to call
- 55:52Speaker 7: about is how do you guys feel about the NFL.
- 55:54Speaker 7: I'm off bringing in these referees as full time employees
- 55:57Speaker 7: because during that Patriots I counted like five or six
- 56:01Speaker 7: calls that were huge game changers that would have helped
- 56:04Speaker 7: us out in particular, and not very much so on
- 56:07Speaker 7: the eagle side, not saying it's printed or anything like that. Yeah,
- 56:15Speaker 7: So we could stop seeing these crappy which ruined games.
- 56:18Speaker 3: I mean I have an example.
- 56:22Speaker 7: Do I have an example?
- 56:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 56:24Speaker 7: Oh no, I had a couple of bruis of me man,
- 56:26Speaker 7: I can't think of one thing off the top of
- 56:27Speaker 7: my head.
- 56:28Speaker 1: That's what I thought.
- 56:28Speaker 7: A couple holding calls that uh.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Well, the holding call on on Hunter Henry may not
- 56:33Speaker 1: have Actually it was on.
- 56:35Speaker 3: Pharrell Brown, Yeah, Farrel Brown. Mike told me that far.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Yeah, because it definitely was what the film said. It
- 56:40Speaker 1: was supposed to be eighty six. Eighty Henry wasn't holding
- 56:43Speaker 1: on that play.
- 56:43Speaker 3: It wasn't.
- 56:44Speaker 1: The ref called out the wrong number. It should have
- 56:46Speaker 1: been eighty six.
- 56:47Speaker 3: So, I mean, it was only a good drive going
- 56:49Speaker 3: when the guy went and motion tripped and fell and
- 56:51Speaker 3: got called for a chop block.
- 56:52Speaker 1: That was the only egregious one. Listen tripped over Kelsey
- 56:57Speaker 1: from it. And some crews are better than others, But
- 57:00Speaker 1: with all the checks and balances in place these days,
- 57:03Speaker 1: it's less of a factor than it used to be.
- 57:05Speaker 3: I mean, how about having to go to replay for
- 57:07Speaker 3: that last call on Kaishan Booty.
- 57:09Speaker 8: Yeah right, I mean, I'm all for like trying to
- 57:11Speaker 8: get better referee, but like, is there any assurance that
- 57:13Speaker 8: making them full time would make it happen, like would make.
- 57:16Speaker 3: Them This full time thing is one of the moment
- 57:18Speaker 3: one of the most overrated things ever. You know, so
- 57:20Speaker 3: if I'm just if I'm just a referee and I'm
- 57:23Speaker 3: making two hundred and fifty thousand right there, I will
- 57:26Speaker 3: be more focused on my calls on Sunday, like I'll
- 57:29Speaker 3: be more prepared.
- 57:30Speaker 8: It's still gonna happen super fast and you have to
- 57:32Speaker 8: make a split second decision.
- 57:34Speaker 3: I think the officiating stinks, as Fred will tell you.
- 57:36Speaker 3: I've never seen a game that I thought was properly
- 57:38Speaker 3: officiated in any sport. I just don't think at any level.
- 57:40Speaker 3: I just don't think the games are fixed. I don't
- 57:42Speaker 3: think it. I don't think that they stink against my team.
- 57:46Speaker 3: That's the only difference I have for most fans.
- 57:48Speaker 8: It's also the nature of the sport where you could
- 57:50Speaker 8: probably call holding on pretty much any play, you know,
- 57:52Speaker 8: like it's just there's it's such a subjective referee sport,
- 57:55Speaker 8: whereas I feel like less sports, maybe a.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Little bit less.
- 57:58Speaker 3: I know basketball is tough. I mean, I really didn't
- 58:00Speaker 3: think they officiated. Had anyone had much of an impact
- 58:02Speaker 3: on the game at all. The other day either there
- 58:04Speaker 3: was one. There was one that I thought the two
- 58:07Speaker 3: point conversion at the Calvin Anderson hold, I think someone
- 58:14Speaker 3: someone I didn't go back and look at it. So
- 58:15Speaker 3: I didn't see it myself, but someone said that it
- 58:17Speaker 3: was kind of ticky tech. But the federal brown one
- 58:21Speaker 3: you told me was clear.
- 58:22Speaker 1: It reached like over them in like it was a
- 58:24Speaker 1: weird It was a weird kind of thing.
- 58:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 7: Well, even if they were just to do like an
- 58:28Speaker 7: instant replay, I mean, we got one hundred different angles
- 58:31Speaker 7: with these cameras with four K resolution. I mean, I'm
- 58:33Speaker 7: not saying stop the game for every single play, but
- 58:36Speaker 7: I mean there's no reason why someone from the booths
- 58:39Speaker 7: who can't like to see a blatant like call that
- 58:42Speaker 7: is a game changer, be like, oh, hey, you guys
- 58:45Speaker 7: miss this because I mean, there's only human on the field,
- 58:48Speaker 7: you know, Like, I don't blame them for missing things
- 58:50Speaker 7: from time to time because they're only humans. And they
- 58:53Speaker 7: only got two wide for one hundred different camera.
- 58:55Speaker 11: Angles that we have in this day and age.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the games take long enough, they have enough replace
- 59:01Speaker 3: They shouldn't they shouldn't have to replay like that last
- 59:03Speaker 3: call like that wasn't even really close to being impounds.
- 59:07Speaker 3: I think they have enough problems with replay.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Let's see Esteban all the way down from Costa Rica,
- 59:15Speaker 1: he said, He says, I love the take and I
- 59:17Speaker 1: love your show. No bs keeping it real great analysis
- 59:21Speaker 1: in the offense from Evan Mike is amazing. Uh taking
- 59:26Speaker 1: on the d and Paul and Fred, they are guys
- 59:28Speaker 1: who keeps the thing realistic. Have you guys found out
- 59:31Speaker 1: why Juju was out on the final play? Oh, we're
- 59:34Speaker 1: gonna find out final play?
- 59:35Speaker 3: How about the final So let's it's a good time
- 59:38Speaker 3: to talk about that. So Bill was asked about Juju
- 59:41Speaker 3: this morning and he said, we'll have an injury report.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Later on a day see if he was injured. Maybe, yeah,
- 59:46Speaker 1: give him an out.
- 59:47Speaker 3: You know, was he was was the fact that he
- 59:49Speaker 3: wasn't out there at the end of the game at
- 59:51Speaker 3: all injury related. And Bill's answer was, well, you know,
- 59:53Speaker 3: we'll get that injury report to you, you know, first.
- 59:56Speaker 4: One of the week.
- 59:56Speaker 3: You know, I kind of read that as to be Yeah,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: I think we're going to see Juju Smith Schuster's name
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: on an injury report today in some capacity. Now, I
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: know there was a report, not a report, but there
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: was a line of thought on my shows yesterday indicating
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: that someone thinks that he could be going on ir
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: I've heard that So if that happens, I think we'll
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: find out at four o'clock.
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: I don't want to say I'm hoping for it, but
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: it would just at least make me feel better that
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: there's something going on and that they realized they need
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: to hit the reset button on him, because it just
- 1:00:26Speaker 8: it didn't look good.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: It didn't look good. It hasn't looked good all summer
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: with him. Something something's up. Yeah, all right, Paul's foods here,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: show within a show is going to start. Remember, you
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: can win three of the posters. We're going to give
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: three of those exclusive posters, signed in numbered by the artists.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: So we're going to give those away right now. When
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: we come back. Hopefully, I think Andre Tippet's going to
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: join us, so we'll talk to you after this.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: Get in on the action with DraftKings, the official daily

- 1:01:40Speaker 15: And we're back with the show within a show. I
- 1:01:44Speaker 15: am joined by Alex Francisco and Veronica Bahat back for
- 1:01:48Speaker 15: Part two repeat guests, Fantasy Football Punishment. However, before we
- 1:01:53Speaker 15: get to that, we got some trivia and the prizes
- 1:01:57Speaker 15: for this trivia is going to be the second and
- 1:02:00Speaker 15: installment of the Game Day poster series and the first
- 1:02:03Speaker 15: ones I believe sold out or almost sold out online,
- 1:02:06Speaker 15: so these are a hot item. I believe this one
- 1:02:09Speaker 15: was done by a local tattoo artist in Rhode Island,
- 1:02:12Speaker 15: so it's a pretty cool, pretty cool thing, right there.
- 1:02:14Speaker 15: So all right, here are the questions. Question one for
- 1:02:19Speaker 15: Adam Viniti's game winning kick in Super Bowl thirty six,
- 1:02:22Speaker 15: who was the holder all right, don't answer, don't answer.
- 1:02:28Speaker 15: I think that's a good one. Number two, how many
- 1:02:32Speaker 15: receiving yards did Dion Branch have in Super Bowl thirty
- 1:02:35Speaker 15: nine that was against the Eagles? And number three, who
- 1:02:40Speaker 15: did Mac Jones throw his first career touchdown? Past two?
- 1:02:44Speaker 15: And we actually had to google this one and watch
- 1:02:46Speaker 15: the play before. So I don't think everybody's gonna get
- 1:02:48Speaker 15: that one. But those are the questions. Send your answers
- 1:02:51Speaker 15: into web radio at Patriots dot com and guys, let's
- 1:02:54Speaker 15: get into it part two of the best fantasy football punishments.
- 1:02:59Speaker 15: You know, last week we had Danny talk about the
- 1:03:01Speaker 15: clear bag and the loser has to wear a clear
- 1:03:04Speaker 15: bag or puts an item in. We had the inanimate
- 1:03:08Speaker 15: object you got take on a date. So, Alex, you
- 1:03:11Speaker 15: look ready to go. What do you have?
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I'm not ready to go.
- 1:03:13Speaker 15: I feel like Veronica's Ronica. You want to go, I'm
- 1:03:15Speaker 15: ready to go.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: I got it.
- 1:03:17Speaker 16: So I was reading about one where the loser had
- 1:03:20Speaker 16: to take the SAT and I just think that's such
- 1:03:23Speaker 16: a cruel punishment because I don't think I could take
- 1:03:26Speaker 16: the essay.
- 1:03:26Speaker 15: I had a friend who had to do that before,
- 1:03:28Speaker 15: like that was their punishment. I think it was the
- 1:03:30Speaker 15: act and you had to get a certain score.
- 1:03:32Speaker 12: Yeah, I would put a score requirement on that because
- 1:03:35Speaker 12: if you don't get it, you have to do it
- 1:03:36Speaker 12: again until you, Like, I want people studying.
- 1:03:39Speaker 16: I was going to say, does that mean you study
- 1:03:40Speaker 16: all season?
- 1:03:41Speaker 12: Just I think you get test prep.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I think you pay for you get the big book.
- 1:03:45Speaker 12: You just yeah, I don't want to do it again.
- 1:03:47Speaker 15: I think if it be a little funny if you
- 1:03:48Speaker 15: did the s S at which is what what is
- 1:03:51Speaker 15: that middle schoolers used to get into, like boarding school
- 1:03:55Speaker 15: or like.
- 1:03:56Speaker 12: This isn't out of touch, Matista, what do you mean?
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: What do you mean listen to public?
- 1:04:02Speaker 15: Okay, okay, okay, yeah you get to imagine. All right,
- 1:04:04Speaker 15: you're taking the test with college kids. You taking it
- 1:04:06Speaker 15: with an eighth grader. We were just trying to go
- 1:04:09Speaker 15: to high school. Chess player, deer Field. What prep school
- 1:04:17Speaker 15: did you go to again? Kimball Union, Kimble Union Academy,
- 1:04:19Speaker 15: Hockey hockey powerhouse. You didn't play hockey, no, I know,
- 1:04:23Speaker 15: but I like to watch the game soccer team Oh yeah,
- 1:04:26Speaker 15: very good soccer.
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:04:28Speaker 15: I got one, And when I said this, you guys
- 1:04:31Speaker 15: gave me a weird look, I said, I have. I
- 1:04:33Speaker 15: told you about the one with the peanut butter and
- 1:04:34Speaker 15: the lookie guys got wide eyed.
- 1:04:36Speaker 12: I did not, but I also got hungry because I'm
- 1:04:38Speaker 12: starving and you made me do this before we got breakfast.
- 1:04:40Speaker 15: Well hopefully this one, well, I don't know, maybe we'll
- 1:04:43Speaker 15: make you younger. Loser needs to cover themselves in peanut
- 1:04:48Speaker 15: butter and go to a dog park. And and I've
- 1:04:55Speaker 15: I've heard about this one. I read it, But like,
- 1:04:58Speaker 15: what would you do if you're just take making your
- 1:05:00Speaker 15: pup and you just see a person just in like
- 1:05:03Speaker 15: spandex covered in peanut butter.
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: I have a dumb question.
- 1:05:06Speaker 16: What if you're allergic to peanuts?
- 1:05:08Speaker 12: Yeah, what if you're allergic to peanuts and you just
- 1:05:09Speaker 12: stroll to the dog park dogs?
- 1:05:12Speaker 15: You could change it for that.
- 1:05:13Speaker 16: If you're allergic to dogs, people are allergy dogs.
- 1:05:16Speaker 15: Gets a punishment. It's not supposed to be.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: A love dogs.
- 1:05:23Speaker 12: This is still so disgusting.
- 1:05:25Speaker 15: I just think about like.
- 1:05:26Speaker 12: I'm thinking bulldogs, French cheese, I mean those things.
- 1:05:30Speaker 15: Do you have to walk there like you don't want
- 1:05:32Speaker 15: to mess up the car? Do you put the peanut
- 1:05:33Speaker 15: butter on?
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:05:34Speaker 12: You would have to sit in a trash bag or something.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: You have to cut out, you wear like a and you.
- 1:05:39Speaker 15: Put you just get covered in peanut. But I just
- 1:05:41Speaker 15: and I just feel like you're just asking to get Karen.
- 1:05:44Speaker 15: There's just gonna be some angry dog mom. I would
- 1:05:46Speaker 15: have been. I think a lot of oh I know, i'd.
- 1:05:49Speaker 12: Be a lot of strangers get into fights and altercations
- 1:05:53Speaker 12: at dog parks. Imagine, So what if you get that.
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: This is funny, it's a punishment.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Bring your EpiPen.
- 1:06:01Speaker 15: Somebody's gonna be there with the cameray next time. Don't lose,
- 1:06:06Speaker 15: all right? I found another one as I got yeah,
- 1:06:09Speaker 15: this is what I want to hear.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: The submission was there?
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: The submission there was?
- 1:06:14Speaker 15: This wasn't submission. This is just one on top fantacy
- 1:06:16Speaker 15: football punch. It's loser has to play a US Open
- 1:06:20Speaker 15: qualifier for golf. And I guess, like I guess anybody
- 1:06:27Speaker 15: can like go to a qualify around but then there's
- 1:06:30Speaker 15: like actually good golfers, So like if I went, i'd
- 1:06:33Speaker 15: just be it'd be bad. I'm not the best golfer,
- 1:06:36Speaker 15: but it'd be quite the experience.
- 1:06:39Speaker 16: You could have a loser tryout for American idol that'd
- 1:06:42Speaker 16: be embarrassing?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Is that still American?
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: I feel like it is, right, I don't know.
- 1:06:47Speaker 15: All right, Alex, come on, you gotta have one, okay.
- 1:06:49Speaker 12: I like the general theme of having to wear a
- 1:06:54Speaker 12: ridiculous outfit out in public, like anything that's like, oh,
- 1:06:59Speaker 12: dress a guy up and a crop top and he
- 1:07:01Speaker 12: has to go parade himself around totally serious and a
- 1:07:05Speaker 12: super public place, tour assassination like whatever you like.
- 1:07:10Speaker 15: Public shame.
- 1:07:11Speaker 12: Public shaming is always really funny because as many times
- 1:07:14Speaker 12: as you have to say I lost my fantasy football league,
- 1:07:17Speaker 12: the better.
- 1:07:18Speaker 15: Yeah, that's how I feel. Like what like with my
- 1:07:20Speaker 15: friend in the Nacho lebre costume?
- 1:07:22Speaker 12: Yeah, like twenty four hours in an eye hoop. Don't
- 1:07:25Speaker 12: get me wrong, that sucks. But like, the only people
- 1:07:28Speaker 12: you really have to fend off looks for are like
- 1:07:31Speaker 12: your waitress and then the couple people that stop to
- 1:07:34Speaker 12: ask you, Like, like, people aren't really going to be
- 1:07:37Speaker 12: asking you what you're doing because they're probably leaving the
- 1:07:39Speaker 12: eyepop in a normal amount.
- 1:07:41Speaker 16: Of time, and public shame, nobody's asking.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: People are just judging.
- 1:07:45Speaker 16: Yes, Like, no one's gonna stop and ask you you're
- 1:07:47Speaker 16: just gonna get a dry losk.
- 1:07:48Speaker 15: So what you're saying is you love the guy who
- 1:07:51Speaker 15: had to go on the duck boat duck Boat tour
- 1:07:53Speaker 15: and the duck costume. Definitely with the sign that says
- 1:07:56Speaker 15: I duck at Fantasy Football. Yes, and he also had
- 1:07:58Speaker 15: to do that four times in a row, which is abaz.
- 1:08:01Speaker 12: Also anything to do with body hair removal, it was
- 1:08:04Speaker 12: really funny. As a woman that like gets waxes, it
- 1:08:11Speaker 12: hurts so bad. So the idea of a man just
- 1:08:14Speaker 12: having hit his back wax or his chest wax is gold.
- 1:08:18Speaker 16: You're very vulnerable too.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: It's a very vulnerable.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: State to be in.
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: Like we had the piercnes and my friend he passed
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: out and it was during Covidas.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: What did he get pears?
- 1:08:29Speaker 15: Is he got his nipple piers. It was during COVID
- 1:08:33Speaker 15: And so we walked into the tattoo parlor and they
- 1:08:36Speaker 15: were like my friend was like no, like like they
- 1:08:38Speaker 15: were like no, only one person and because it was COVID,
- 1:08:41Speaker 15: and he literally had to have my friend go and
- 1:08:42Speaker 15: like hold his hand, and we all stayed in the car.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: And we're like, how did they do this?
- 1:08:46Speaker 15: We were like, oh my god, this sounds really painful,
- 1:08:48Speaker 15: and my friend like comes out. He's like, hey, like
- 1:08:51Speaker 15: so h yeah, no, he's he's not doing too well.
- 1:08:55Speaker 15: The tattoo parlor said we can go in one by
- 1:08:57Speaker 15: one because it was COVID, like depths COVID, and he's like,
- 1:09:01Speaker 15: he passed out. They gave him some coca cola to
- 1:09:04Speaker 15: get his blood sugar back up. Yeah, pepsi, pepsi and yeah,
- 1:09:10Speaker 15: and so that was that and then he lost again
- 1:09:13Speaker 15: and he'd had to do the nacho libre thing.
- 1:09:15Speaker 12: And still rocking the nibble piercing.
- 1:09:17Speaker 15: No, he took it out immediately.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Oh, you should have to wear it for a little while.
- 1:09:21Speaker 15: And if he's listening to this, no, you still owe
- 1:09:23Speaker 15: us a belly button piercing.
- 1:09:24Speaker 16: So yeah, he didn't forget noah, he didn't forget.
- 1:09:29Speaker 15: Not the belly button. Yeah that's next. So oh my,
- 1:09:32Speaker 15: but a piercing, piercing tattoos, all that stuff. That that's classic,
- 1:09:36Speaker 15: right there, Ronka anything else?
- 1:09:39Speaker 16: I love the tattoo idea.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I do.
- 1:09:41Speaker 16: I think as somebody would zero tattoos.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I think it's I think it would be so bad.
- 1:09:46Speaker 12: I have no tattoos, and that's why I hate it.
- 1:09:48Speaker 12: I would get like that's where I would motivation. I
- 1:09:51Speaker 12: would draw a line. I would say, I'm sorry, you
- 1:09:53Speaker 12: can kick me out of the league.
- 1:09:54Speaker 15: I'm not doing so that's that's a good question. What like,
- 1:09:56Speaker 15: So you're like tattoo you lose, You're like, I'm at
- 1:09:58Speaker 15: the league. I'm not doing it, like.
- 1:10:00Speaker 16: I think for me, it's anything that needs to be
- 1:10:02Speaker 16: like eaten, like people who make you eat something.
- 1:10:06Speaker 12: I'll try anything twice, but I'm not cutting my hair.
- 1:10:08Speaker 12: And I'm not getting a tattooed.
- 1:10:09Speaker 16: No, like if they if they want you to eat
- 1:10:11Speaker 16: like I don't know, like a bug of some kind
- 1:10:14Speaker 16: or something like that, like bad food.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: No, thank you.
- 1:10:16Speaker 12: Okay, I just thought of something that could be really funny.
- 1:10:19Speaker 12: So this is something.
- 1:10:20Speaker 15: Okay.
- 1:10:21Speaker 12: Background story is I went to middle school in high
- 1:10:24Speaker 12: school with this kid that was absolutely outrageous, hilarious person
- 1:10:27Speaker 12: but an absolute character. And I think his parents were
- 1:10:30Speaker 12: going to drug test him for marijuana. So he came
- 1:10:34Speaker 12: to school day and they were gonna do like the
- 1:10:36Speaker 12: hair follicles. Oh yes, Like I was in eighth grade,
- 1:10:39Speaker 12: so this is like his parents were doing like the
- 1:10:41Speaker 12: hair follicle test. So this dude comes to school one
- 1:10:45Speaker 12: day with his eyebrows and his head completely sure, but uh.
- 1:10:51Speaker 15: So, yeah, how funny would that be?
- 1:10:53Speaker 12: He looked so outrageous that the thought of that being
- 1:10:56Speaker 12: a punishment is a really funny one. You're like, your
- 1:10:58Speaker 12: eyebrows will grow back, It'll be fine, but you will
- 1:11:02Speaker 12: take years ridiculously. No, it only took a couple of
- 1:11:05Speaker 12: months for this, dude, don't worry months.
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: You say that like it's a.
- 1:11:09Speaker 12: It was like two or three months growing all awkward.
- 1:11:12Speaker 12: He happened to get suspended from school in the process
- 1:11:15Speaker 12: of it growing back, so a lot of it.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: He just got to spend that home. So by the
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: time he came back.
- 1:11:20Speaker 15: Did he get suspended because he failed the test?
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I think?
- 1:11:22Speaker 12: Oh no, this was that unrelated to school his parents
- 1:11:24Speaker 12: were doing.
- 1:11:25Speaker 16: Oh I was gonna say, I would purposely act out
- 1:11:29Speaker 16: this is what you.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Missed in public school.
- 1:11:31Speaker 15: Okay, love it, love it, love it all right, guys,
- 1:11:36Speaker 15: this is a good one, Veronica, pleasure. Thank you for joining.
- 1:11:39Speaker 15: You will be back, guys. If you have anything you
- 1:11:42Speaker 15: want to chat about, tweet it, tweeted, tweeted to al
- 1:11:46Speaker 15: I got the burner, you know, thank you? Get that
- 1:11:49Speaker 15: trivia and check out the poster series on patriots dot Com.
- 1:11:51Speaker 15: We have a new reveal every Wednesday, I believe, so
- 1:11:54Speaker 15: thank you, and let's get back to Patrit's unfiltered.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: And now great moments in history. He says that are
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: any of you playing word?
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I played? Do you play? Eric? Why not? Gets so upset?
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: But well, the way you answered it, No, that's not.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Isn't that how we just said it? Is said, yes, absolutely,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: you were very nossily not how I said it in
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: my head. I never tell you how I read it.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: I read it that. I have no time for that.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: No, no, no, he has plenty of time for it.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: He plays a bunch of other games like that.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Okay, everybody else is doing that one, right, all right?
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so you don't like why I read it?
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: You don't like wordle Eric, I don't know. I've never
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: done it, So then why are you so dismissive? I'm
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: not so dismissive. You know, why do you think they
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: chose five letter words? That's the most common number of
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: the English language.
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: I don't know, but it's it's always maddening when they
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: use a letter twice, which I don't like that.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I don't like that. I think they did that today.
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: They did.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Well, if you pick a letter, explain all the rules.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: If you're interested, go find out like for expance, Like
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: if it was you, I'm so dismissive. I wasn't. Now
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: you want to know about it. We're a little bit dismissing,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: just a little bit. That's another great moment. All right
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: back here in Patriots Unfiltered eight five five Pats five
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: hundred is the ACE ticket hotline, web radio at Patriots
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: dot com is email address. As we told you at
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: the beginning of the show, this is throwback week. Uh
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins coming to town for a Sunday night game,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: but the team will be wearing their reds, their throwback reds,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: the once styled about in the eighties. So you know,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: we figured, hey, why not. We've got a Hall of Famer,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Patriots Hall of Famer, NFL Hall of Famer right in
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: the house. So let's bring in Andre Tippett to talk
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: a little bit about, you know, the old days. And
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: you know what he thinks about when he sees the
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: team coming out in those reds. Hey Andre, how you doing?
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: Hey Fred, what's happening? Thank you for having me on here.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: So you were red shirts what do you think.
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: I love the uniform. I'm glad we we we we.
- 1:14:03Speaker 17: Are focusing on showing it off early in the season too. Yeah,
- 1:14:09Speaker 17: it's a great uniform. I mean, I think every team
- 1:14:12Speaker 17: should be mandated to wear at least twice a year
- 1:14:16Speaker 17: just to do that.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: They should be mandated to wear our uniform.
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: Absolutely, that'd be awesome too.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: I always thought that I love the red jersey too,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: But I would love to have an alternate, you know,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: current jersey in red with the white helmet, but the
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: new logo, like that could be the alternate. Yeah, like
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: an alternate Current uniform in addition to the throwback. I
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: think that would be a sharp I think that would
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: be sharp. The white helmet with the elvis in the
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: red jersey. That's a good question. So you got the
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: white helmet.
- 1:14:55Speaker 8: See he took cares about these things like I do.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: The let me. We got into a big argument. Was
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: there a time in the NFL where a player could
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: have a different color grill, like, because I remember on
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: the Patriots some guys, I think so, some guys back
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: in the day had white girls and some had red girls. No, no, never,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: you had to have one color that I'm wrong, But
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I thought I remember like some guys having red because
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: we had read for a.
- 1:15:28Speaker 17: While, right, yeah, we had we one year, I believe
- 1:15:31Speaker 17: late eighties we had the red.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Face mask, remember that, which was yeah, yeah, maybe the
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Hugh Millen era.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: So I love you, So let me ask when when
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: you were a player, were uniforms a big deal? Like
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: did you care, like if your uniform looked good or not?
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Like did you compare like, oh, I like, I like
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: the charges uniform? You know, was that a big deal
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: to players back then?
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: No, I'll tell you what.
- 1:15:59Speaker 17: The only time I ever cared about my uniform was
- 1:16:01Speaker 17: probably when we switched over to the new the one
- 1:16:06Speaker 17: year that I that I got to play only because
- 1:16:08Speaker 17: of the company who produced it.
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: The pants were awful.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Was that starter Apex Apex. It was nasty and I
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: was like, what we're wrong with the pants?
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: It just didn't They were hard to put on. It
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: was the material was.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Didn't give you enough support in the area. It was
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: you pulled.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: You know, you want to put your stuff now.
- 1:16:31Speaker 17: I'm gonna tell you, I didn't really care, but you
- 1:16:33Speaker 17: do care about how you feel when you're running around
- 1:16:36Speaker 17: out there.
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: You want to make sure everything is in place. Yeah.
- 1:16:38Speaker 17: Yeah, and you know once you sent you up and go,
- 1:16:41Speaker 17: now you go, but you're putting this stuff on it
- 1:16:43Speaker 17: and all of a sudden, like leg doesn't feel right.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: You gotta get a razor and you're cutting something over here. Yeah,
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: and it's like, you know, what is wrong with this up? Yeah?
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: So that was APEX. I don't know how long they
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: used apex.
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: Not very long, probably two three years. Yeah.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: So so you're saying that guys didn't care about the
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: look of the uniform, like, you know, no, what about
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: what about numbers?
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: How you ended up with fifty six, which is like
- 1:17:08Speaker 8: an all time linebacker number. You're an all time linbeer?
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: How did you end up with?
- 1:17:11Speaker 17: I wanted I want to fit. People ask all the time.
- 1:17:14Speaker 17: I was a big Thomas Henderson uh Dallas watching him
- 1:17:19Speaker 17: do his thing out there. You know, he's a linebacker
- 1:17:22Speaker 17: punt returning and you know, he was just clowning out
- 1:17:25Speaker 17: there on the football field, and it kind of stood
- 1:17:26Speaker 17: out to me and I actually when I got to Iowa,
- 1:17:30Speaker 17: I was hoping I could get the number, and they
- 1:17:32Speaker 17: said coach wants all his line all the defensive ends
- 1:17:35Speaker 17: to be in ninety numbers and I'm like what, and
- 1:17:40Speaker 17: but I didn't say anything. And then when I got here,
- 1:17:42Speaker 17: you know what number you want? Right away they asked
- 1:17:44Speaker 17: me what number you want? I said fifty six. Well
- 1:17:47Speaker 17: I didn't realize their boy.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: Had got cut. Rod show was.
- 1:17:52Speaker 17: Everybody was like everybody's favorite guy, and so here I am.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: The body wasn't even number.
- 1:17:58Speaker 17: Body wasn't even cold. Yeah, this rookie coming in here
- 1:18:02Speaker 17: with the number. They all gave me a funky look.
- 1:18:04Speaker 17: But I wanted it because Thomas Thomas Anderson I never
- 1:18:07Speaker 17: wrought the show.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so what about Miami? So that's the throwbacks against
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: the throwback teams. And you obviously had a million million
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: games against Miami. Any particular ones that stood out.
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: Ship all of them, any of them with Marino in.
- 1:18:22Speaker 17: It, because you know you're like hitting him, Yeah, getting
- 1:18:27Speaker 17: after him. Marino was obviously we all know he's a
- 1:18:30Speaker 17: great player. He's a great football player. He's a tough basket.
- 1:18:34Speaker 17: Just when you think you can intimidate him, you got
- 1:18:37Speaker 17: him intimidate it.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: He's not intimidating.
- 1:18:40Speaker 17: And I used to love watching the antics though, between
- 1:18:44Speaker 17: him and Dwight Stevens because White was his uh center
- 1:18:50Speaker 17: and I'm gonna tell you, if anybody got close to
- 1:18:52Speaker 17: Marino got a sniff on him, he would look at
- 1:18:56Speaker 17: He'd be yelling Dwight, Dwight, oh yeah, and d White
- 1:18:59Speaker 17: would turn around and then he would prosecute guys. He
- 1:19:04Speaker 17: would and I, you know if I'd laugh then, But
- 1:19:08Speaker 17: I appreciated it now because you know, they had a
- 1:19:11Speaker 17: pride about protecting their quarterback. They knew they had something
- 1:19:13Speaker 17: special there with him. And you know, Dan and I
- 1:19:19Speaker 17: have been amazing. I mean when I see him and
- 1:19:21Speaker 17: I feel like, you know, a long list brother when
- 1:19:22Speaker 17: I see him, Man, we have a long conversation. We talked,
- 1:19:25Speaker 17: but I would try to hurt him.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: I wanted to. I wanted to do something to just.
- 1:19:32Speaker 17: Because I knew he was you know, you let him
- 1:19:35Speaker 17: back there along when he's gonna He.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Wanted to hurt you in another way. Wanted to hurt you.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: On the score.
- 1:19:40Speaker 17: He was dropping dimes like crazy, and you know, he
- 1:19:43Speaker 17: had an unbelievable release, and obviously they practiced that, just
- 1:19:49Speaker 17: like we practice tackling and you you practice running and
- 1:19:52Speaker 17: walking through plays. He had a clock in his mind.
- 1:19:57Speaker 17: One thousand and one, one thousand and two, one thousand
- 1:19:59Speaker 17: three get rid of it, and it was like for
- 1:20:01Speaker 17: us pass rush is trying to get to him. We
- 1:20:03Speaker 17: you know, we had it in our ear what you know,
- 1:20:06Speaker 17: how much time we're gonna have to get off blocks
- 1:20:08Speaker 17: and get to him.
- 1:20:09Speaker 4: And he was just he was He was amazing for.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Even even after he tore his achilles and he came back,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: you know, he was still good. After he came back.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: He was you know, he was never known as a
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: mobile quarterback, and it was probably a little less mobile
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: when he came back, but still the release was there,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: and I think the anger went up a notch absolutely,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: you know, because you know I can't run at all.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Now protect me even more, right.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Well, yeah, he had great receivers. He always had.
- 1:20:34Speaker 17: He always had great receivers, great backs that could catch
- 1:20:38Speaker 17: out of the backfield, and the tight ends. They were
- 1:20:42Speaker 17: not the tight ends that we were fortunate to experience
- 1:20:45Speaker 17: here over over our time. But he had guys that were.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: He You say he had great receivers, But were any
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: of his receivers Did any of them go in the
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Hall of Fame? They both went out that Moore was
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: pretty good. I don't think anything more so I think
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: he made them great. You know, you know, like and
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: I you know, and I hate to say it because
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: we're all talking about Mac now, but like, you know,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: we like Mac. But if Dan Marino was with Kendrick
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Bourne or he'd make him, he'd make him better, make
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: him great. Yeah, make it great, Dan.
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:21Speaker 17: Hey, Dan is one of the greatest quarterbacks to play.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: In the National Footbow Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:21:26Speaker 17: And he had an unbelievable gun for an arm and
- 1:21:33Speaker 17: the dude was was was tough too, man, I mean
- 1:21:36Speaker 17: he he you know when we say that, and I mean,
- 1:21:41Speaker 17: you got to be a tough guy to play this game.
- 1:21:44Speaker 17: But also you got to have that tough mindedness when
- 1:21:46Speaker 17: you need these guys two minutes. Yeah, it's thirty seconds
- 1:21:49Speaker 17: left in the fourth quarter and you got the ball.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: Can you make the play?
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: I mean confidence, Brady, do that?
- 1:21:56Speaker 8: What was the game playing against him when you guys
- 1:21:58Speaker 8: would face him all with what was the we We.
- 1:22:01Speaker 17: Couldn't blow an assignment. We truly could not blow an
- 1:22:04Speaker 17: assignment when we got ready to go down to Miami
- 1:22:07Speaker 17: to play them, or if we were getting ready to
- 1:22:09Speaker 17: play Miami. Uh, I swear to you on Saturdays where
- 1:22:13Speaker 17: everybody else was showering up getting ready to get on
- 1:22:16Speaker 17: the bus to get on the airplane to fly down there.
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: We were down in the field on the in the
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: in the red zone and Rod Russ was on us.
- 1:22:24Speaker 17: You know, we were we were going through certain plays
- 1:22:28Speaker 17: that they were good at and we were just we
- 1:22:31Speaker 17: had to communicate. We had the you know, the motion
- 1:22:34Speaker 17: we got trips left. All of a sudden, there's motion left.
- 1:22:37Speaker 17: I want to hear you guys communicating and and he
- 1:22:40Speaker 17: needed to know that we were one hundred percent ready.
- 1:22:44Speaker 17: And that's that was the key to playing those guys
- 1:22:47Speaker 17: was you don't make a mistake because they're gonna do
- 1:22:50Speaker 17: the same thing over and over again and they're gonna
- 1:22:52Speaker 17: come back until you stop it.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: And and that's what we would do.
- 1:22:57Speaker 17: We would we would practice and making sure that we
- 1:23:00Speaker 17: all communicated, and believe it or not, we got better
- 1:23:03Speaker 17: as as a as a defeam that way.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: You know, now you can talk strategy a little, but
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: was like was the idea like you know, like controlled rush,
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: you know, get him off PLoP, get him out of
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: the pocket. Like was there a certain way that you
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: were asked to go after him?
- 1:23:18Speaker 17: Oh, you definitely wanted to get in his face because
- 1:23:20Speaker 17: he didn't want anybody in his face. He didn't want
- 1:23:22Speaker 17: he didn't want to be when he's releasing that ball.
- 1:23:25Speaker 17: He wanted to have free, free rooms. And you know
- 1:23:28Speaker 17: he when when when stuff was around him, he got
- 1:23:31Speaker 17: really nervous about that.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: And you'd see, was there a effort to like, you know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: run some stunts up the mid.
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: A lot of stunts up the middle. Yeah.
- 1:23:39Speaker 17: Uh, and and a lot of stuff coming from from
- 1:23:42Speaker 17: from outside too, but but most of it heavy heavy
- 1:23:46Speaker 17: doses of up the middle stuff.
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: How did you how did you guys put it together?
- 1:23:50Speaker 8: In it in eighty five AFC Championship to get over the.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: Hump down there?
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: You know, it was it was destiny, man, it really was.
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: And it was.
- 1:23:58Speaker 17: And we had a little luck that day because it
- 1:24:02Speaker 17: rained and everyone kind of forgets that too, because we
- 1:24:06Speaker 17: had planned to do a lot of passing, but because
- 1:24:10Speaker 17: of the rain, it you know, we told the receivers
- 1:24:13Speaker 17: they were going to have to do a little bit
- 1:24:15Speaker 17: of blocking. But it was, you know, it was I
- 1:24:19Speaker 17: think it was two teams coming together, veteran teams, and
- 1:24:26Speaker 17: which guys were going to be the toughest, and that
- 1:24:30Speaker 17: day we were the toughest, especially being there in Miami,
- 1:24:35Speaker 17: the Orange Bowl, the Jinks and all that stuff. There
- 1:24:38Speaker 17: were so many things that were happening that we had
- 1:24:42Speaker 17: an opportunity to put the bed.
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: And it happened.
- 1:24:46Speaker 17: I mean, we we were solid. We had some good
- 1:24:50Speaker 17: football players out there on the field that they offensively, defensively,
- 1:24:56Speaker 17: Guys that could run the ball, Guys that could catch
- 1:24:59Speaker 17: the ball if we when we did throw it.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: But we uh we we we.
- 1:25:03Speaker 17: You know, you're looking at Mossey Tatupu, You're looking at
- 1:25:06Speaker 17: Craig James, You're looking at Tony Collins, you know. Defensively,
- 1:25:11Speaker 17: you know, we were you know, Clayborne and and and
- 1:25:14Speaker 17: Ronnie la Pet, the backers be Donnie Nelly, Lester Williams.
- 1:25:21Speaker 17: Lester Williams was fired up that week because he was
- 1:25:24Speaker 17: from that. We actually had four guys or three guys
- 1:25:27Speaker 17: from the U that were on the team, Fred uh,
- 1:25:30Speaker 17: Fred Marion, Ronnie Lapet, Lester Way. So they were fired
- 1:25:34Speaker 17: up from that. So we had all kinds of stuff.
- 1:25:36Speaker 8: Yeah, what was it about the because you guys won
- 1:25:38Speaker 8: what three road games right to get to the Super
- 1:25:40Speaker 8: Running You're the first team to do it.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I mean, what was it about that team?
- 1:25:43Speaker 13: Then?
- 1:25:43Speaker 8: You guys were able to win on the road like
- 1:25:44Speaker 8: that get to the super Bowl.
- 1:25:46Speaker 17: It was I'm gonna tell you it was. It was
- 1:25:47Speaker 17: Comma Camma was good that year for us.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: It really was. It was.
- 1:25:52Speaker 17: You know, we had lost to Miami that Monday night game.
- 1:25:56Speaker 17: Ye forget when it was. And I remember and I
- 1:25:59Speaker 17: tell story all the time because it kind of gave
- 1:26:01Speaker 17: me chills to night because I'm sitting up there and
- 1:26:03Speaker 17: I'm tripping.
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: I'm like this dude talking about.
- 1:26:06Speaker 17: But Coach Barrier pulled us all together and you know
- 1:26:09Speaker 17: he was He stood around and he looked around at
- 1:26:11Speaker 17: us and he says, look, man, I just want to
- 1:26:13Speaker 17: say one thing to you. We've been delayed, but we
- 1:26:18Speaker 17: will not be denied this year. And I want you
- 1:26:22Speaker 17: all to think about this game because it's gonna come
- 1:26:25Speaker 17: back to us. And I'm kind of kind of giving
- 1:26:28Speaker 17: the side eye a little bit, and the hell was
- 1:26:30Speaker 17: he talking about?
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: But when it's all set and done, you know, we.
- 1:26:36Speaker 17: We do the things, the little things that we were
- 1:26:39Speaker 17: talking about from the beginning of training camp, and the
- 1:26:42Speaker 17: turnovers were big. Tackling was important, defense, stopping giving the
- 1:26:48Speaker 17: ball back to the offense, and all of a sudden boom,
- 1:26:51Speaker 17: we make the playoffs as a wild card team. We
- 1:26:55Speaker 17: had battles with the Jets that year, and then we
- 1:27:00Speaker 17: beat them at the Meadowlands, and then.
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: We got to go to West Coast to play the Raiders.
- 1:27:07Speaker 17: You know, you got the Sullivan's that are pissed off
- 1:27:09Speaker 17: at the davis Is about things. The things are going
- 1:27:12Speaker 17: on and we don't know about secretly, and then we
- 1:27:15Speaker 17: go out there and we get into a great battle
- 1:27:17Speaker 17: with those guys and we again, you know, we got
- 1:27:20Speaker 17: a team full of tough guys because everybody's playing and
- 1:27:22Speaker 17: then lo and behold, guys, we got a chance now
- 1:27:25Speaker 17: to go back to Miami and here it goes.
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: You know, you're thinking back to what.
- 1:27:29Speaker 17: Raymond Berry said and we were like, wow, this dude
- 1:27:33Speaker 17: was kind of clairvoyant a little bit, you know, and
- 1:27:35Speaker 17: he had something going on there.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: But it was pretty cool.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: And then you hit the Bears and I know that's bad.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: But is there any now you look back, is there
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: anything that the Patriots could have done in that game
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: to make it a better game that they didn't do?
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: Like maybe not starting Tonyson. No, I don't know, no, no,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: I know, but like, like, is there anything that like
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: you go back. It's like, man, I wish we had
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: just done.
- 1:27:57Speaker 17: He the thing that I here all the time from
- 1:28:01Speaker 17: all teammates, like we should have started. We should have
- 1:28:04Speaker 17: started Grogan. Because it's funny what people remember now. I
- 1:28:08Speaker 17: don't remember anything other than the fact that we played
- 1:28:10Speaker 17: the game and we lost, but everybody has so many
- 1:28:14Speaker 17: more vivid memories. And they were like, well, don't you
- 1:28:17Speaker 17: remember Tony was sick all week, Grogan was playing, and
- 1:28:21Speaker 17: Grogan was ready.
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: We should have put Grogan out there. And I was like,
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: so I.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Didn't know.
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: I didn't know that, but that was but you.
- 1:28:31Speaker 17: Know, we because we didn't go against number ones. We
- 1:28:35Speaker 17: all were going against number too often, so we didn't.
- 1:28:37Speaker 17: I mean, we were out there getting ready, We're doing
- 1:28:39Speaker 17: out there. But all of a sudden, he said, yeah,
- 1:28:41Speaker 17: remember you know Tony was sick. I'm like, no, ship,
- 1:28:44Speaker 17: we put him out there to start and he we
- 1:28:48Speaker 17: just set ourselves up.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: He wasn't in the game very long.
- 1:28:51Speaker 17: But it's you know, and then you throw Grogan in there,
- 1:28:54Speaker 17: you know, after you know, these guys are like, you
- 1:28:56Speaker 17: know they see blood in the water. Now on it's now, oh,
- 1:29:00Speaker 17: now you're known throw Grogan in there, now, Yeah, you
- 1:29:03Speaker 17: should let him go in there from the beginning. But
- 1:29:05Speaker 17: that's the only thing that I mean, I've heard.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: From yeah team.
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: The only thing I remember, and that was my senior
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: year in high school. And I tell this to you
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: guys all the time. I was Joe fin you know,
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: I was all in, you know, like they're gonna do it,
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: They're gonna do it.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: It's good.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: Like you remember all the turnovers that you guys were
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: creating in the playoffs that year, I want to say,
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: seventeen turnovers, you know, and then first player of the game,
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: Walter Payton, Hall of Famer Walter Payton. We got the
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: ball with the twenty hours.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: I told you that, tell me it's gonna happen. And
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: then we had to kick a field goals three nothing.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: That's that's all, you know, Like Tip says, I don't
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: remember anything about it other than we played and we lost.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: That's all I remember. I wiped out the other fifty
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: eight minutes.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: Well, we played them early in the year, Sodia Field.
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: What do we lose?
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: I thought, twenty one twenty seven?
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: So he played there nothing.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: Craig James ninety yeard touchdown.
- 1:29:55Speaker 17: They had nothing like they were twenty I'm mean, they
- 1:30:00Speaker 17: were just a team. I mean, they were a team
- 1:30:02Speaker 17: that you know what, they got better turnovers, they held
- 1:30:04Speaker 17: onto the ball a little bit better than they did
- 1:30:06Speaker 17: some some things, and it went their way. So we
- 1:30:09Speaker 17: lost in sodier fields. So it was like, oh, that's
- 1:30:11Speaker 17: a football it's just a football team.
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: But all of a sudden, you.
- 1:30:15Speaker 17: Don't know about how they almost murdered guys on the Rams,
- 1:30:20Speaker 17: murdered the quarterback in the running brock, and they were
- 1:30:24Speaker 17: just knocking people.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: They started knocking.
- 1:30:25Speaker 17: People out, and it's just all of a sudden, they
- 1:30:27Speaker 17: just started turning up the heat.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: And so we're getting ready to play the Bears is like.
- 1:30:34Speaker 17: Oh, yeah, we owed him anyway, you know, we this
- 1:30:36Speaker 17: is one of those those games. You know, they were
- 1:30:38Speaker 17: a little bit better than us, but we're much better now.
- 1:30:42Speaker 17: And we had no idea turning up like that. Well,
- 1:30:48Speaker 17: they turned up that forty six defense and all of
- 1:30:50Speaker 17: a sudden, you know, our guys don't know who to stop,
- 1:30:53Speaker 17: and yeah, well yeah, you started looking at some guys
- 1:30:56Speaker 17: out there that are kind of throwing lookout blocks too,
- 1:30:58Speaker 17: and they're like, what the hell is going on here?
- 1:31:01Speaker 17: And you know, you take that, you take your head off.
- 1:31:03Speaker 17: I tell people all the time I go to I
- 1:31:05Speaker 17: fly out to Chicago to see my oldest daughter. Man,
- 1:31:07Speaker 17: I get shell shocked every time I go through the
- 1:31:10Speaker 17: airport because I think people are looking at me and laughing.
- 1:31:12Speaker 17: You know, he was on the Patriots. His ass we kicked.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: So getting back to the uniforms, the old logo pat Patriot?
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Did you like that logo?
- 1:31:25Speaker 17: Love that you love love that logo? You love that
- 1:31:27Speaker 17: log Yes, sir, it was uh. I never you know,
- 1:31:31Speaker 17: it's funny. I had never seen the logo as a kid.
- 1:31:34Speaker 17: I knew growing up Jets, Giants, Cowboys, stealers, the Rams.
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that was it.
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: Really who I really paid any attention to.
- 1:31:47Speaker 17: And all of a sudden I get drafted by the
- 1:31:49Speaker 17: Patriots and I'm like, hell, what did the uniform look like?
- 1:31:51Speaker 17: But when I get here and I'm like, oh, that's cool,
- 1:31:53Speaker 17: that's pat Patriot.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: You liked it.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: I see, I never liked it.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: I never liked helmet.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I never liked it.
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: I did call the guy John Hanna. I said it
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: look like John Hannah.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, when you got to Foxboro State, Well back then,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: I think it was Sullivan's No, it was when you
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: got what did you think of the stadium when you
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: got here? That's not Iowa? I who was it?
- 1:32:17Speaker 17: One of my teammates said, holy cow, my college Yeah better, Oh.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: Yeah, suited play than here.
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: I probably played my better high school.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: I was going to say that some guys had better
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: high school stadiums.
- 1:32:30Speaker 17: Again, I was like, all right, this is what we
- 1:32:32Speaker 17: got to play, and I'm just gonna suit up and play.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: And I was like, wow, this is different.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Yeah, this is different.
- 1:32:39Speaker 17: I mean Connects Stadium was like, you know, we got
- 1:32:41Speaker 17: sixty thousand people up in there in the place, but
- 1:32:44Speaker 17: it was a stadium.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: I mean back then there were a lot of dumps,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: but this was one of them. You know, it was
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: our john Yeah, but it was all dump, absolutely true.
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: Do you have to you have to play early at
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: Shay Stadium before they moved to the Middlelands, Right?
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: I did that dump? That was that was That was
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: an eyesore. That was bad.
- 1:33:02Speaker 17: I played my rookie year there, my rookie year, maybe
- 1:33:04Speaker 17: my second year there.
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: And you probably played in War Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: That was yep, yep.
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: So I remember that that's another one. That's good one.
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: Fred. Yeah.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I mean even I had a lower my head going
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: in through the dugout to the locker room because the
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: pipes were.
- 1:33:22Speaker 17: Oh my god, I thought the some of those I
- 1:33:26Speaker 17: thought rats were up there.
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I'm sure they were. Yeah.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: So anyway, it's great. We just thought we'd bring in.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: It is throwback week. They're going to be wearing their reds.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: And you know, I know what a lot of people
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: think of Patriots in red jerseys. It's Andre Tippett, It's
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: John Hannah and maybe Steve Grogan. I think those are
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: the three right, without question. That's me.
- 1:33:48Speaker 8: I was ten years old in eighty six and living
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: around here. That was that was the Patriots.
- 1:33:52Speaker 17: Yeah, it's a great uniform, and I'm, like I said,
- 1:33:54Speaker 17: I'm so glad that we are bringing.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: It's more posible Rod show.
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: That should be.
- 1:33:59Speaker 17: It's should be awesome to see just to see that,
- 1:34:02Speaker 17: and I'm sure the players are gonna love having pictures
- 1:34:04Speaker 17: and photos of it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and the old that's a big thing now.
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean you probably see it these arrival
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: photos with these guys, and they i mean, they get
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: mad at us if they don't get their photo taken.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: I mean it's a whole new thing, you know, it's unbelievable.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: All right, we'll take a break. Thanks Andre, Thank you.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: Guys can get back upstairs. We'll be right back after this.

- 1:36:11Speaker 1: All right. Back here and Patriots Unfiltered. Thank you to
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: Andre Tippet for coming back. And I know, uh he
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: used some salty language, but when you're with Andre Tippett,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: you don't tell him what to say, So if he
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: wants to drop some some words, go for it. But
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: good stories, that's good stuff. Evan's back and where is
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: he back from e.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: Then has returned, and has returned, has returned.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: The All right, Evan, what do we got?
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: Well, I have to say, going from Andre Tippett to
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: the gringe over here is a pretty big change. God
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: it that stretching period was horrible, and that stretching period
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: did not have Trent Brown present with the Patriots. The
- 1:37:08Speaker 5: rest of the rest of the team was there, present
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: and accounted for, including Ian Book sporting a Matt Corral nineteen.
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: So they're just passing the nineteen Jersey round. But yeah,
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: no Trent Brown. Obviously, I don't want to speculate too much,
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: but I would say maybe veteran rest right like each Wednesday,
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: And yeah, I could see that, But we'll get the
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: injury report at the end of the day and we'll see.
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: But Juju out there, the two guards out there, stranger
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: on when you out there, Parker out there? You know,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: so everybody's practicing.
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: Did you get eyes on, Juju?
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: I did?
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: How did you think you looked?
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: It was just stretching. So I'm not going to take
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: too much away from.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: Not even what I saw going back and forth any
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: because when you left I sort of fixated on Bill's
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: answer to that question this morning, Well, was you know
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: the injury report book. I thought there was a chance
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: that maybe wouldn't see him at practice and he was
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: gonna go on i R which some people speculated about
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: yesterday on the radio, but probably a good sign that
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: he was out there anyway with the irs probably off
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: the table immediately.
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, yeah, So we were in the bubble. In
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: the bubble, no same same media contingent.
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: Best grousing you guys would dry.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: There was, there was less rest grousing you drive over.
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: But a funny moment, funny funny moment, so that we
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: we were in the in the front entrance of the
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: Socio field house, and you know how if you guys
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: have been there, I'm sure there's there's glass windows right
- 1:38:43Speaker 5: so you can see into the bubble from the parking lot.
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: And we were told to face the other direction.
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: So that I don't want that face looking at those dice.
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: Face the direction so you could so you couldn't see
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: the walk through, So our back was to the players.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: I think that's specifically for you.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: That's out of respect. Anybody's looking in the mir.
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: There, I am standing underneath the thankfully it was underneath
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: I wasn't getting rained on looking at bass pro and
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: uh and not looking at what was going on on
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: the field, So that that was a good moment.
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: That's funny with someone like monitoring you making sure no
- 1:39:26Speaker 8: one glimpsed.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: Aaron Hey who Aaron Ice front Ice front Ice front.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:39:32Speaker 8: It's fun It's embarrassing, but yeah, it was.
- 1:39:35Speaker 5: It was quick.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: When you think of it that way, it is kind
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: of embarrassing, like turn you back on.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Well because usually prison usually when we go out to
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: practice at the in the in the bubble, we park
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: in the in the closed parking lot and then wade
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: outside and then they let us in like a side door.
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: But today I think because it was already raining, they
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: allowed us to stand underneath the question.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Is there an NFL rule that teams have to allow
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: the media at practice? Yes, yeah, there is, yeah, And
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: obviously there's no rule as to the duration.
- 1:40:13Speaker 5: There is guidelines, like you know how certain days we
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: get a little bit more than stretching, we get that
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: opening like positional drill period there. It's it's like expected
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: or like asked, very nicely worded, but very strongly, what are.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: We doing here with this with this pract because you
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: can't see anything. I mean, really, it's only a time
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: to take attendance, so correct. So if the team just
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: tells us after practice, these are the guys that participated.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: What else do the media need to see at this point?
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: There are sometimes, you know, when we get the extra time,
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: obviously you can see there's are things that you can
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: take away from those positional drills, like who's participating in
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: them and all that kind of stuff. I would say
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: the only other thing that that you can kind of
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: glean is, you know, just certain things about like you know,
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: Paul's question about juju, like how our guys moving, you know,
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: does a guy have a brace now that he didn't
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: have before the game, or like you little things like that.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: So do you think that's the reason why the league
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: says you have to allow the media practice for that reason?
- 1:41:18Speaker 5: No, I think the main reason why the media pushes
- 1:41:20Speaker 5: for practice.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm not saying that the media should
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: push for everything they can get. I'm saying, why does
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: the league, yeah, make them?
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: I think the main thing that we've always heard is
- 1:41:32Speaker 5: that the idea of letting us in practice is to
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: publicize the team to literally.
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: From the team, you guys cover the team to have
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: as much information.
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: To publicize the team, and so for a lot of
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: media pictures video of practice, like you know you talk
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: about like the new Channel five and the news stations
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: and things like that, they use that as b roll
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: for their packages on the news. So if you're not
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: allowed to go out to practice at all, then you
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: are are you know, recycling old b roll or have
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: no b roll or whatever.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Teams could supply it for, you know, pool reporters. I
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: don't know, it's just like the media. No, no, I
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: just there's nothing. I don't know. No, well, I wonder
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: what is meaningful watch practice? You can make evaluations, But
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: then once the season starts, I get where teams they
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: don't want the media see why we're prepared.
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: Do you think the media wants them to see training
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: camp any more than anything else? Well, I think it
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: is what it is if.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: I mean, the media should want to see everything that
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: they were right, they can see, right, But I can
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: understand the team saying we're not going to let you
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: watch our practice. Well, what's it like in other teams?
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: That's what I have. Some teams are open, some teams
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: like all practice.
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: I don't know anymore, that's the way, that's the way it.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: Was usually, Like I know, like in Cincinnati, they sometimes
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: get access until eleven on eleven, like team drills start,
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: and so maybe that's like the first fifteen to twenty
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: minutes instead.
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: It's definitely changed over the years too, because I know
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: there were some that were open. But like even like
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: last week, as an example of what Evan's talking about,
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: based on a lot of people, Evan included that told
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: me that cold Strange looks like a guy who one
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: day looked like he did more than another day because
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: it looked like he couldn't do it back to back days,
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: the same sort of getting out of his stance and
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: the explosiveness. There was a chance that he wasn't going
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: to play.
- 1:43:24Speaker 5: Yeah, certainly DeVante Parker last.
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: Week, everybody was in agreement. Yeah, he didn't look great.
- 1:43:29Speaker 5: Parker did basically did nothing other than stretch in front
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: of us. So those are the little things. I mean,
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: I don't I don't really like I'm not a big
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: practice guy either, Like it's not like something that I
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: find like super important to cover. But obviously there is
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: access to it, so we we take the actions you.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Have to take what they give you.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: Yeah. No, I agree with the larger point Freddie about
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: like how valuable is it?
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: You know whatever.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: So media was okay, no, no, no croud other than
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: having to know, you know, coming today. So that's and
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: the release they made a point to say Chick fil
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: A snacks. So I'm wondering.
- 1:44:07Speaker 8: Leftover dipping sausage, wondering why the sauces left over camp,
- 1:44:12Speaker 8: why did distinction between just as.
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: There were no sandwiches, but there was a nine thousand packages.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I was excited because I.
- 1:44:20Speaker 8: Went, you know, they're doing the early media availabilities, and
- 1:44:23Speaker 8: so I went to the press conferences last week and
- 1:44:25Speaker 8: they had some some left over.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: They still had some extra sandwiches.
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: So yeah, I would say that I did the main grousing.
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: If we if we really want to get into grousing,
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: the schedule with the podium set up and everything like
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: that is causing some issues.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: I would say, doing the podiums before practice.
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: And I don't actually the podiums before practice. I don't
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: think our main concern is the podiums in between practice
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: and open locker room because a lot of us, myself included,
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: usually used that time to write and do things that
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: we have there do later in the week, and so
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: now it's like every couple every hour, it feels like
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: you have something.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Else to Why they did it that way this year.
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: Because of the new location of the media workroom.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: Which is an issue that needs to probably be addressed wherever.
- 1:45:12Speaker 8: And the new media workroom is going to be because
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: you can't get to the locker room from there, it's
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: going to always be escort.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: But I'm sure once they do a permanent location it'll Yeah, you.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: Know, but to that point, and I actually agree with
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: the grousing for a change.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: Do you need to do both?
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: No, Like, just do one set of podiums. I don't
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: care if it's if it's after Bill or if it's.
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: After Bill is fine because you're already there.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: Yeah that's prightect. And then you've got some time to
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: write while they're a practice.
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: And yeah, you get a chance to go get something
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: to eat. I can sit down and write, and now
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: I go to the locker room and finish up. Yeah,
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: you know. This way, it's like what you described. If
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: you're like you're always doing something, Let's face it, the
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: vast majority of podiums you don't need to be at
- 1:45:58Speaker 3: but you got to go if they're going to do it,
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: you know, like you can't just say, well, I'm going
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: to go and get something to eat and then you know,
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: David Andrews was talking or whatever.
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: So yeah, I know that nobody cares about any of that,
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: and no one.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: Should know.
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: But yeah, that that that gap between practice at one
- 1:46:16Speaker 5: and then open locker room at fourth. You can get
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: a lot done in that gap if you're just sitting
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: down there with your headphones on and writing. So I understand,
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: I understand the open locker.
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: Room that late is that that's a trend that started
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: probably I don't know, five or ten years ago, and
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: it's been a bad one for the media.
- 1:46:34Speaker 8: It's really changed even in my time there. I mean,
- 1:46:38Speaker 8: the Monday one was an absolute dud.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Well, like I I've always, you know, been a proponent
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: of no one should go into the locker room period
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: except for players, except for the team. I'm with you
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: on that, and then they should mandate a room outside
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: the locker room that players have to go in to
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: be interviewed. But I believe that the locker room should
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: be a sacred place. It should be a safe space
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: for the players.
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: Can change I'm talking about the time. Yeah, not your
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: place yet, Like I don't care if it's locker room
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: or well, I agree with you. I don't think we
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: should be in the locker room joby. You and I
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: have always been lockstep on that. Yeah, but it's the
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: fact that it's like five o'clock or four forty five
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: whatever it is now they.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: Do they do it on their way home. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: it's just not it's not really scrums anymore.
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: You know, it's more about like people do, like what
- 1:47:23Speaker 8: Evan does, you know, talk to players, get you know,
- 1:47:25Speaker 8: stories that maybe even you're not writing, you're just kind
- 1:47:27Speaker 8: of getting some behind the scenes kind of you know,
- 1:47:29Speaker 8: off the record kind of stuff. And you know, there
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: are a couple of little scrums of you know, just
- 1:47:33Speaker 8: news stations getting an interview or two. Nothing crazy. But
- 1:47:36Speaker 8: it's it's not like they.
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: Don't even have scrums anymore.
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Apparently it's not tailored or TV anymore. It's tailored more
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: for the individual writer that has a certain story they're
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: working on, makes a request, Hey can I get a
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: one on one with Hunter Henry?
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Sure during open cockerage, and so they set it up
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: that way. It's it's it's still works for that, but
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: if you're just a camera guy shooting for the six
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: o'clock news, it can be tough.
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: It was.
- 1:48:02Speaker 8: I mean, especially for that Monday one where it was,
- 1:48:04Speaker 8: you know, the end of the day, Monday, nothing going
- 1:48:06Speaker 8: on here, those you know, those those all those news
- 1:48:08Speaker 8: stations that came down with.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: Today would be different. Wednesday and Friday.
- 1:48:13Speaker 8: Friday can be good to just because everybody's a little
- 1:48:14Speaker 8: more relaxed than the definitely relaxed day.
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: I would. I understand, like why you feel that there
- 1:48:22Speaker 5: shouldn't be media and open locker room, but that's like
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: my favorite part of the day because I I just
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: like as Mike, I just bounce around, right like I
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: just go to play. You know, different players that are.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: He's saying I shouldn't have access to all those players.
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: They should be they should have come to another room, right.
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: But if they so, then what I would I would
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: request them and they because like no, no, no.
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: They they have to go to this other area.
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: Wanted to get home, they got to go through this
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: room and they have to stay there.
- 1:48:48Speaker 5: So it so for you, it's just the physical being
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: and the I understand.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Yeah, just having a where they can change. Like when
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: you you know, when you have a party at your house,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: usually the bedrooms off lands. It's in a while, their
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: way in there, you walk in on them.
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: Where old are you going?
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: In college? It happens at all ages, Paul, believe me?
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: Are you serious? Oh yeah, are you kidding me? I
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: would be.
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: I would be quite offended if I opened the door
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: to my bedroom, you know, having company, and they.
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: Would it's a couple in my bedroom. I would not
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: be happy with it. But anyway, you know, you get
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: my points. It's the bedroom, like that's what we don't go.
- 1:49:24Speaker 8: That was like, I mean even I won't say names,
- 1:49:27Speaker 8: but there was a scrum around a certain player and
- 1:49:29Speaker 8: then another player came out of the shower. Offensive lineman
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: wrapped in a towel that's probably the size of most
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: of our handtown. He couldn't get because the scrum is
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: going on his locker, right next to his locker, so
- 1:49:40Speaker 8: he couldn't get there. So he's just standing there, hold hold,
- 1:49:43Speaker 8: like pinching the towel off that's barely covering, like you know,
- 1:49:46Speaker 8: it's his whole hip is shown out.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: But it's that kind of stuff where you're like, you know,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: the guys are here to change and the gill and
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: they're going to meetings. It's an interstitial place, you know.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: It's not like they're just sitting in there, you know.
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: I just it's I totally could not agree more. And
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: I think that the dynamic of it for meat is awkward,
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: Like it's it's awkward for you to be in there
- 1:50:08Speaker 5: as much as it is probably for them.
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: And imagine being a female like I, you know, I'm like,
- 1:50:12Speaker 8: I'm awkward enough, is it.
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: That's one of the reasons I don't go in a
- 1:50:14Speaker 3: lot anymore, Like I don't have to be there, like
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: you guys are writing all the time, so you guys
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: still have to do it, but I don't. I've never
- 1:50:20Speaker 3: felt comfortable in there. I always agree with Fred on
- 1:50:23Speaker 3: that I think it's their space and they should have
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: an area where they don't have to worry about someone
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: seeing something that they shouldn't right, And I'm not even talking.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: About them not right stuff in their locker whatever, you know, well.
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: Right, And that's that's another thing, like not to call
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: anybody out, but like if you're doing a one on
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: one on camera with somebody, like have them close their locker, like,
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: don't like don't then I'm.
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: Not supposed to film into a locker, but it's hard
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: if there's if you're filming them and they're standing with
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: their back to the locker, you're going to pick stuff.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: Up as much as I possibly, like if we're going
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: to do a scrumb with something like I if nobody
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: else like says hey, close, you're like I sometimes do because,
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: like you, it's your personal stuff in there. And I'm
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: not saying there's anything like like terrible in there, but
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: there's just personal stuff in there. And like then sometimes things,
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: you know, pictures or things like that get out that
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: this guy has this picture in his locker like Mac
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: last year with the Buffalo playoff game picture and like
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: you just you just don't need that guy has a.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: Picture of his girlfriend on the other side of the one.
- 1:51:22Speaker 8: With Yeahmara's good about that. She's she's like the locker police.
- 1:51:26Speaker 8: If that there aren't lockers closed, she's going in and
- 1:51:29Speaker 8: close them. She's good out Alan and Texas says, well,
- 1:51:33Speaker 8: she's just like closure. She makes sure she gets in
- 1:51:35Speaker 8: there and tells them to do it and.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Locker room Mom. Alan says, thanks for the segment with
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: mister Tippett. I was in my teens when he played
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: for the Patriots. Like many other fans of New England,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: he was always one of my favorites. I remember hearing
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: for the first time back then that he was a
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: black belt. He still is, like fifth degree. I remember
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: thinking that it was not surprising to me because he
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: was so tough. That was really a pleasure to listen.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: As far as the current state of the team, I
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: have hoped that we will improve as the year goes on.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: One positive that I have is that I think Mac
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: showed some maturity over last year.
- 1:52:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say that that was an encouraging sign.
- 1:52:12Speaker 3: I thought his demeanor on the field was much better.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: Yeah. I thought his poise was much better in the
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: pocket too. I mean he took some hits. He took
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: some hits and he stood in there.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: By the way, we gave away three of the posters
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: and uh, there were trivia questions. The first question was
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: who was the holder for Super Bowl thirty six? Winner
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: was Travis in West Virginia. How many receiving yards did
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Dion Branch have in Super Bowl thirty nine? One hundred
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: and thirty three? That was Andrew and Louisiana. I would
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: have said, yeah, and who did mac Jones throw his
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: first touchdown pass to Nelson? That's correct, Mike, and say
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: what's that Andrew in La not Louisiana.
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: I would.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: No, I get it.
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: I would have gotten that one.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Mike and Salem, New Hampshire, Miami.
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: Got that last one, Miami Week one.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Congratulations. If you didn't get a poster, you can buy
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: this week's poster on Patriots dot com. All supplies last Yeah,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: signed in number by the artist, comes with a certificate
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: of authenticity. Collect them all. Look great in your Patriots
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: man or woman cave.
- 1:53:24Speaker 8: Wow, the show's gone by fast. That tip thing was fun.
- 1:53:27Speaker 8: That's the most I've talked to him in my four
- 1:53:28Speaker 8: years here. But he's a he's a legend of my book.
- 1:53:31Speaker 8: I mean, growing up that guy was was the Patriots me.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: I mean, imagine him had they won a couple of
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: Super Bowls.
- 1:53:39Speaker 8: Oh, I mean, in my book, he's already like with
- 1:53:42Speaker 8: Lawrence Taylor, as great as he but like he like
- 1:53:45Speaker 8: he would.
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: Be rationally he'd be recognized that way like the guys
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: and the Steelers and and the giants in the Dallas
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: you know, well, he named all those teams. Those are
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: the team Country. It's because everybody knew those.
- 1:53:57Speaker 8: Guys, you know, yeah, but he was our It was like,
- 1:54:00Speaker 8: you know, we have our own at least we have tip, Yeah,
- 1:54:03Speaker 8: Tipping John Hannah.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: You know, get start about fifty six too.
- 1:54:07Speaker 8: And you know it's always interesting some people like you always.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: I hadn't heard that one, and I make them tell
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: me those stupid stories all the time. But he never
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: told me that one.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: Nothing to Paul knowing the score of his game. Brady's
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: in Kansas City on the A stick and houtline, what's up, Brady, Brady, Brady,
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: forget you. Brady's going to drop your call, Brady.
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: They so they're saying for the Brady thing on six
- 1:54:35Speaker 8: twelve that they're like, they want me to perform that
- 1:54:37Speaker 8: at center field.
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: I would, and like sing.
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: It, I would. They asked you that plined.
- 1:54:42Speaker 5: That's a great idea.
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: I mean it's gonna be like a two or three
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: hour show talent show. So we're gonna need to kill
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: right right, you know, so I'll come out.
