- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at 6'5, weight class unknown, but
- 0:04Speaker 1: hailing from the city of sin, put your hands together
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And in this corner, standing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: At 5'10, weighing in at pounds, and coming to us
- 0:14Speaker 1: from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona,
- 0:18Speaker 1: put your hands together for Luis Montemayor.
- 0:26Speaker 2: All right. Thank you. Welcome back to another episode of
- 0:29Speaker 2: Mixed Company Podcast, of course. I'm going to have the show.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'm Jameson. As always, I'm joined by Luis. Luis, what's
- 0:34Speaker 2: going on, man?
- 0:36Speaker 3: What's up, Jameson? We're here to talk about professional boxing,
- 0:38Speaker 3: a sport that I love more than most things in
- 0:40Speaker 3: the world. But as usual with anything, you got to
- 0:43Speaker 3: take the good with the bad. And the boxing news
- 0:46Speaker 3: last week took a turn towards Stupid City. You know,
- 0:49Speaker 3: let's just say rumors. We're not going to say full-on news.
- 0:52Speaker 3: But yeah, there's some items that came out that I
- 0:54Speaker 3: wanted us to touch on. I believe all this happened
- 0:57Speaker 3: at the same day.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 3: But let's start here. Ryan Garcia, you know, came out swinging,
- 1:05Speaker 3: looking great at his last fight. Pitbull Cruz called him out.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Ryan said, hey, man, want to fight in December? Let's
- 1:10Speaker 3: do it. According to Ryan, Pitbull already ducked him and
- 1:13Speaker 3: is not agreeing to a fight in December. Always hard
- 1:16Speaker 3: to say, you know, who's telling the truth and who
- 1:18Speaker 3: says what, blah, blah, blah. To Ryan's credit, you know,
- 1:21Speaker 3: he did say, I've tried to fight Pitbull before. I'm
- 1:24Speaker 3: going to give him a chance, his last chance here.
- 1:26Speaker 3: So I'll tell my team to send the contract. And
- 1:30Speaker 3: it looks like that fight might not actually be happening,
- 1:32Speaker 3: which is kind of a bummer. It's a really big
- 1:35Speaker 3: letdown considering how excited we were for Ryan 2.0, for
- 1:39Speaker 3: a fight between him and Pitbull, another big match before
- 1:42Speaker 3: the end of the year. But I just want to
- 1:44Speaker 3: get your take on how you feel about this potentially
- 1:46Speaker 3: falling apart so soon.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So I'm not surprised. I mean, it's a lot going
- 1:49Speaker 2: on in boxing right now. Also, supposedly, Ryan only has
- 1:52Speaker 2: one more fight on his deal with Oscar, supposedly. That's
- 1:56Speaker 2: what I keep hearing. So that's also a factor. And
- 1:59Speaker 2: a lot of things as well, because if the big
- 2:01Speaker 2: fights in May and there's a chance that he don't
- 2:04Speaker 2: fight till May. If you're Oscar, you only have Ryan
- 2:06Speaker 2: for another fight. You want to waste it on a
- 2:09Speaker 2: tune-up in November or December? Don't think that makes sense.
- 2:12Speaker 2: There's a lot going on, a lot of jostling going
- 2:14Speaker 2: on with that. With that being said, if Ryan wants
- 2:16Speaker 2: to fight in December, he's going to fight in December.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And the opponent necessarily won't necessarily matter as long as
- 2:20Speaker 2: it's someone of Pitbull's caliber or better. You know, I
- 2:23Speaker 2: think that's the key is what type of caliber of
- 2:27Speaker 2: opponent are we talking about? I think there's a lot
- 2:29Speaker 2: of points to choose from. It really depends on what
- 2:31Speaker 2: the plan is for both this fight and the one
- 2:34Speaker 2: in May. That's the biggest thing. However, as long as
- 2:37Speaker 2: there's a fight, I think we're good. We don't, we
- 2:39Speaker 2: need a layoff of like nine plus months. As long
- 2:41Speaker 2: as we get a fight, we'll be okay. Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And an interesting thing that, again, rumors out in the,
- 2:47Speaker 3: in the internet and social media is that Ryan might
- 2:51Speaker 3: want to push up the tail female fight to December
- 2:54Speaker 3: that he was initially looking at in May, which is interesting, which,
- 2:57Speaker 3: May is the big moneymaker, especially if you've got a
- 2:59Speaker 3: lot of hype behind it. So is he trying to
- 3:01Speaker 3: get his contract with Oscar out of the way and
- 3:03Speaker 3: maybe sign with Zufa as well if they're offering him
- 3:05Speaker 3: a shit ton of money?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Or like DAZN or whomever. I mean, there's a lot
- 3:09Speaker 2: of different offers out there for him. There's a lot
- 3:10Speaker 2: of different options for him. Who says he leaves Oscar,
- 3:13Speaker 2: you know? So there's a lot of options. I think
- 3:15Speaker 2: that's the thing to look at. And also, too, a
- 3:19Speaker 2: lot can change in nine months. So if you can
- 3:21Speaker 2: get a guaranteed fight in three, why not take the guarantees?
- 3:25Speaker 2: If you know there's a fight in December that you
- 3:26Speaker 2: can take and it'd be part of another card, then
- 3:29Speaker 2: why not? Because it feels like Benavidez is going to
- 3:31Speaker 2: fight in December as well, whether it's the 12th or
- 3:34Speaker 2: the 19th. He's going to fight regardless of it. Might
- 3:36Speaker 2: as well be on that card as well and make
- 3:38Speaker 2: it another super card and go from there.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Well, and I think it's kind of actually smart on
- 3:42Speaker 3: Ryan if he does do that, if he pushes up
- 3:44Speaker 3: the tail film fight to December because just based on
- 3:48Speaker 3: where he's been in the last year, he's got negotiating power.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Now he's back to being a potential challenger Dependable star,
- 3:56Speaker 3: dependable in the ring, more focused than he was before.
- 4:01Speaker 3: So if he really wants to keep that up and
- 4:04Speaker 3: he really puts in the effort to stay on that track,
- 4:07Speaker 3: then he can be the guy, the moneymaker. So either
- 4:10Speaker 3: with Oscar or anybody else, he'll like, I'm good for 2026.
- 4:14Speaker 3: If I'm going to be a major player in Cinco
- 4:18Speaker 3: de Mayo in September going forward, then let's see the
- 4:22Speaker 3: new better contract for me.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:25Speaker 2: No, I hear that. I definitely hear all that. But
- 4:27Speaker 2: the thing with Ryan is it's more of like he
- 4:30Speaker 2: stays focused, he stays sharp through all this because there's
- 4:32Speaker 2: a lot going on in a short amount of time.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So we're going to see his professionalism. We're going to
- 4:36Speaker 2: see if he's serious or not because it's very easy
- 4:38Speaker 2: to slip up when you have these big grand plans
- 4:40Speaker 2: in the works. Sure.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I think this is going to be for the rest
- 4:45Speaker 3: of this year and definitely 2027. We're going to see
- 4:47Speaker 3: what Ryan Garcia is all about because he has every
- 4:51Speaker 3: opportunity in the world. These are his opportunities to lose after...
- 4:55Speaker 3: We've been through it a million times. His layoff for
- 4:57Speaker 3: a year, his shenanigans, him losing to Roley and not
- 5:01Speaker 3: even putting in effort to fight. So far, I'm liking
- 5:05Speaker 3: what I've been seeing. But now we're going to see
- 5:07Speaker 3: if he's really going to be about that life. And
- 5:09Speaker 3: like you said, stay disciplined and focused. And again, I've
- 5:13Speaker 3: absolutely talked shit about Ryan Garcia before because I thought
- 5:16Speaker 3: he was overrated. But I want him to be a
- 5:19Speaker 3: big star and a big draw for the sport. He's
- 5:22Speaker 3: just got to stay... stay focused. So I'll be, I would,
- 5:28Speaker 3: I would be very curious. I, for me, for my curiosity,
- 5:31Speaker 3: I would rather he fight in December. And if that's
- 5:33Speaker 3: the case to see if his, if his contract is
- 5:35Speaker 3: up with Oscar, I'm more curious about seeing what happens,
- 5:39Speaker 3: what he does after that. You know what I mean?
- 5:41Speaker 2: I hear you. I hear you. No, it's gonna be
- 5:43Speaker 2: fascinating either way. Cause a lot of storyline, a lot
- 5:45Speaker 2: of options, but the key is there's options to make
- 5:48Speaker 2: good fights. I think that's the most important thing. As
- 5:50Speaker 2: long as we have that, everything else is secondary. So
- 5:53Speaker 2: that's cool. it's just we kind of want to get
- 5:55Speaker 2: things straightened out because a lot of uncertainty right now
- 5:58Speaker 2: a lot of fights are being rumored to be made
- 5:59Speaker 2: not a whole lot's been official but a lot of
- 6:01Speaker 2: rumors so it'll be good to see once things are finalized.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Absolutely another thing too you know i'm saying that i
- 6:07Speaker 3: would love to see uh ryan fight pitbull or anybody
- 6:10Speaker 3: in december just because i want more fights but it's
- 6:12Speaker 3: not unreasonable for him to take you know uh time
- 6:15Speaker 3: off between now and may after just having fought connor
- 6:17Speaker 3: ben so at the same time you know i'm not
- 6:19Speaker 3: going to be like oh this is bullshit blah blah
- 6:21Speaker 3: blah like.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Well, especially since the fight only went a couple rounds.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's the thing. It's not like he went through a war.
- 6:26Speaker 2: More of a sparring match than anything. So he can
- 6:30Speaker 2: come back in December with no issues, I don't think,
- 6:32Speaker 2: as long as he didn't have any injuries that we
- 6:34Speaker 2: don't know about. Right.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm very intrigued. Ryan's boxing career is something that's
- 6:43Speaker 3: kind of really fascinating to me in the sport right now,
- 6:47Speaker 3: outside of the ring, as opposed to just what he's
- 6:48Speaker 3: looked like in the ring the last couple times. So
- 6:51Speaker 3: I'm very, very curious. I'm going to keep up with
- 6:52Speaker 3: these stories. So we'll do a quick run through, through
- 6:55Speaker 3: the things that came up last week. Rumors of Shakur
- 6:58Speaker 3: Stevenson potentially fighting Manny Pacquiao. I'm sorry, man.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Neither of us are fans. I think it's ridiculous. No
- 7:06Speaker 3: disrespect to Manny because he did come back in that
- 7:09Speaker 3: last fight looking good. You know, he, he looked better
- 7:11Speaker 3: than expected, but this is not it for Shakur specifically.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Like when you're the guy that, The best boxer in
- 7:17Speaker 3: the world, according to how you walk around talking about yourself,
- 7:22Speaker 3: you can't fight old man Manny Pacquiao. You've got to
- 7:24Speaker 3: challenge yourself with the new younger guys that want to
- 7:27Speaker 3: take your throne. I don't see an upside to this.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Is there any upside you can see?
- 7:32Speaker 2: No one acts for this shit. No one acts for this.
- 7:35Speaker 2: No one. No one wants to see this shit. No
- 7:38Speaker 2: one acts for it. Keep that shit away from us.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I don't want to see Shakur Stevenson at this stage
- 7:43Speaker 2: of his career. fight a guy like Manny, but there's
- 7:45Speaker 2: nothing he gains from the outside of making a boatload
- 7:47Speaker 2: of money. There's nothing he gains from the fight. There's
- 7:49Speaker 2: nothing we're going to learn about him in that fight.
- 7:51Speaker 2: There's nothing he's going to have to do to win
- 7:53Speaker 2: this fight. Like, what the fuck are we doing? Excuse
- 7:55Speaker 2: my language, but really, that even being a rumor is disgusting. Like,
- 8:00Speaker 2: that is truly disgusting. Like, what are we doing? And
- 8:03Speaker 2: the fact that he parades himself like he's the best
- 8:06Speaker 2: boxer ever, and his resume is very weak, all things considered,
- 8:11Speaker 2: it's kind of wild. Like, He gets away with a
- 8:14Speaker 2: lot of stuff because he's actually a good boxer, but
- 8:17Speaker 2: his resume ain't that great. Now, he's still young in
- 8:19Speaker 2: his career, so he has a chance to change that.
- 8:21Speaker 2: But my God, for the stuff he does and the
- 8:23Speaker 2: stuff he pulls off, it's annoying. Like, I mean, more
- 8:27Speaker 2: than often than anything, even if he didn't start that
- 8:29Speaker 2: rumor or even that rumor was started by somebody else,
- 8:31Speaker 2: the fact that he even got legs makes it kind
- 8:34Speaker 2: of stand. We show where you stand at with a
- 8:36Speaker 2: couple of things. Why is it taking this long to
- 8:38Speaker 2: make a fight? Why is it taking this long? You
- 8:40Speaker 2: signed for Zufa. There's been a lot of rumors going along,
- 8:43Speaker 2: a lot of contracts supposedly signed, not signed, whatever. This
- 8:47Speaker 2: is getting to the point where I'm over it now.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You fight when you fight. I'll catch the fight when
- 8:52Speaker 2: it happens and move on because this is getting annoying. Agreed.
- 8:56Speaker 3: And the thing about it is that people always say, oh, well,
- 8:59Speaker 3: you know, you're not going to get credit if you
- 9:00Speaker 3: fight an older guy, this guy, blah, blah, blah. In
- 9:03Speaker 3: this case, it's 100% true. Shakur gets no credit for
- 9:05Speaker 3: beating Manny Pacquiao if he does. And at the worst
- 9:09Speaker 3: case scenario... If he does win and doesn't dominate, goes
- 9:13Speaker 3: the distance, which Shakur usually does, and probably will against
- 9:17Speaker 3: a Pacquiao, you're just going to get clowned more and
- 9:20Speaker 3: more for not being able to beat the old man. Like,
- 9:22Speaker 3: it's a lose, lose, lose. Please, go ahead.
- 9:26Speaker 2: What the fuck is the point of this fight? Like,
- 9:29Speaker 2: for real, like, at this time, I know May is
- 9:32Speaker 2: still a draw, but that can't be right. That cannot
- 9:34Speaker 2: be the reason. That can't. It can't be.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah i mean here's the thing if manny needs it
- 9:39Speaker 3: needs a paycheck it needs to come back you know
- 9:41Speaker 3: like here's the thing i would take i would take
- 9:45Speaker 3: uh manny versus floyd mayweather to you know 10 times
- 9:49Speaker 3: on sunday before i wanted to see in the ring
- 9:51Speaker 3: against fucking shakur stevenson uh you know everybody's got bills
- 9:54Speaker 3: to pay and that's cool and he's a draw but
- 9:56Speaker 3: there is a difference between you know, taking on a
- 9:59Speaker 3: legendary fighter and challenging him and just also being in
- 10:03Speaker 3: the ring with an old man.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 10:04Speaker 3: That's what, that's what this is. And yeah, I agree
- 10:08Speaker 3: with you. Yes, there are rumors, but I kind of
- 10:11Speaker 3: feel the same way as you. The fact that this
- 10:13Speaker 3: rumor is actually being discussed out there as a possibility
- 10:15Speaker 3: is ridiculous. And, also funny, you said last episode, whoever
- 10:19Speaker 3: Shakur fights, it's going to be a letdown. I never
- 10:23Speaker 3: imagined it'd be this much of a letdown if this
- 10:25Speaker 3: is what happens.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Oh, it's ridiculous. He always claims people don't want to
- 10:29Speaker 2: fight him. Some boxers, we do want to fight him.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It's getting to the point where I'm over it. He's
- 10:34Speaker 2: too good of a fighter to be doing all this.
- 10:36Speaker 2: That's where I'm coming from. He's way too talented of
- 10:39Speaker 2: a guy to be doing all this. At the end
- 10:41Speaker 2: of the day, if you sign to Zufa but you
- 10:42Speaker 2: don't have no control over your career, this is getting annoying.
- 10:46Speaker 2: We want to see you fight. You taught a great game.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You're a hell of a skill fighter. But why does
- 10:52Speaker 2: it take this long to make a fight? Why? Something's
- 10:56Speaker 2: not adding up. I'm sorry. It doesn't make any sense.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Well, and I would imagine it's the be-all, end-all is
- 11:05Speaker 3: that to make as much money out of Shakur for
- 11:07Speaker 3: everybody possible, both with Dana White and Zufa and the Saudis,
- 11:12Speaker 3: et cetera, to get as much out of this kid
- 11:14Speaker 3: as they possibly can. But this isn't the right way
- 11:17Speaker 3: to do it. You know, the kid needs to get
- 11:18Speaker 3: back in the ring and keep building his resume and
- 11:21Speaker 3: keep showing that he is the best. And, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 3: bigger fights will come. Hunger challenges will come. This is
- 11:27Speaker 3: just kind of like it really does feel like a
- 11:30Speaker 3: quick cash grab. Here's the thing. If Shakur Stevenson took
- 11:34Speaker 3: a Manny Pacquiao fight and then retired and everybody was
- 11:37Speaker 3: like got paid for a dumb fight, like this is
- 11:40Speaker 3: the avenue you would take.
- 11:41Speaker 2: So that's not a big money fight like that, though.
- 11:44Speaker 2: You're not fighting out of Legion or any football. I
- 11:46Speaker 2: don't get it. I'm missing something. I don't think he's
- 11:50Speaker 2: going to fight Manny. First, I don't think that's even
- 11:52Speaker 2: going to happen. But the fact that he even has
- 11:54Speaker 2: some legs is ridiculous. But he literally, it's not even
- 11:58Speaker 2: a big draw. I don't know, man. I'm befuddled. I
- 12:02Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know.
- 12:04Speaker 3: We're going to keep an eye on. We've talked for
- 12:06Speaker 3: weeks and weeks about how we're excited to see Shakur's
- 12:08Speaker 3: next fight and what he's really going to do. And
- 12:11Speaker 3: if this is the case, I'm sorry, I'm going to
- 12:12Speaker 3: be talking a lot of shit.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Oh, I won't watch. There's no need to watch. I
- 12:16Speaker 2: don't do exhibition matches. Why would I watch him fight
- 12:19Speaker 2: somebody that's down there at 50? Why? 100%.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Let's just kind of... We put our thoughts out there
- 12:27Speaker 3: and let's just see what happens in the time, but
- 12:29Speaker 3: we'll be keeping an eye out. But let's just say
- 12:30Speaker 3: that If this is the case, we're both going to
- 12:32Speaker 3: be really upset about it. But another fight that let's
- 12:36Speaker 3: say we weren't asking for, but maybe somebody out there
- 12:39Speaker 3: who was asking for really wants is Joshua versus Fury.
- 12:42Speaker 3: You know, they at first they were talking about putting
- 12:45Speaker 3: it in Las Vegas. Now it was announced for December
- 12:49Speaker 3: in Cardiff, Wales. And that makes definitely more sense. Neither
- 12:53Speaker 3: of us, neither you or I, please tell me if
- 12:56Speaker 3: I'm wrong, we don't care about this, about this fight.
- 12:58Speaker 3: We don't really have, but I will say there is
- 13:01Speaker 3: a chance that British boxing fans are losing their mind
- 13:03Speaker 3: over finally getting this after being talked about for a
- 13:06Speaker 3: decade or more.
- 13:07Speaker 2: It's another fight that happened too late. Like that's the
- 13:09Speaker 2: first thing. And also secondly, normally fights over there happen
- 13:13Speaker 2: at odd times of the day. So I think England's
- 13:15Speaker 2: like either eight or 10 hours ahead of us. So
- 13:18Speaker 2: I'm not going to bed late to watch that or
- 13:20Speaker 2: waking up early to watch that. Sorry.
- 13:24Speaker 3: No, I'm, you know, Eddie Hearn keeps saying, oh, the
- 13:27Speaker 3: biggest fight in British boxing, the biggest fight. And you
- 13:29Speaker 3: know what? Here's the thing. That might actually be, I
- 13:30Speaker 3: think that says more about British boxing than anything else.
- 13:34Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 3: And, and you know, they just announced it. Apparently it
- 13:39Speaker 3: might still be in jeopardy because according to Eddie Hearn,
- 13:42Speaker 3: Dana White's involved. They want them. The Saudis are pushing
- 13:45Speaker 3: him to be a promoter. He doesn't like it. AJ
- 13:47Speaker 3: doesn't like it. It's a, it's too much of a
- 13:50Speaker 3: shit show. We're talking too much about what's happening outside
- 13:53Speaker 3: of the ring and outside of, you know, the boxers and,
- 13:56Speaker 3: you know, their training promotion, et cetera. But also it
- 13:59Speaker 3: does kind of seem to keep feeling like keep trying to,
- 14:02Speaker 3: Saudis want to just plug in Dana White when nobody
- 14:05Speaker 3: else wants him there. And I was like a friend group.
- 14:07Speaker 3: And all of a sudden the guy just starts bringing
- 14:09Speaker 3: his annoying cousin around. And you're like, I don't, why,
- 14:12Speaker 3: why is this guy here?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Always.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Plus, And in this metaphor, that friend is the Saudis,
- 14:18Speaker 3: who we didn't really want in the friend group in
- 14:20Speaker 3: the first place, let's be honest. We kind of just said, fine,
- 14:23Speaker 3: we'll let you hang out. But yeah, it just seems
- 14:30Speaker 3: too much grab ass for something that could have been
- 14:32Speaker 3: so easily done. If the British boxing public really wanted
- 14:36Speaker 3: Fury versus Joshua so badly, why is it taking so
- 14:40Speaker 3: long to just announce it and get it done and
- 14:42Speaker 3: put it on our screens you know what's with the
- 14:44Speaker 3: back and forth i don't get it i.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Don't get it i truly don't get it it's not
- 14:47Speaker 2: making any sense at all i truly don't.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Get it yeah so um now i don't really have
- 14:53Speaker 3: a lot to say about that fight specifically because you
- 14:56Speaker 3: know because that will happen and yeah if if it's
- 14:59Speaker 3: like on i guess it might probably be on like
- 15:01Speaker 3: 10 a.m 11 a.m on a saturday and if i
- 15:04Speaker 3: remember i'll i'll watch and see the other card but
- 15:07Speaker 3: There was another rumor that if this falls apart, that
- 15:10Speaker 3: Tyson Fury could potentially fight David Benavidez. And it's just,
- 15:14Speaker 3: I told you, this news just gets stupider and stupider.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I was looking at the group chat and I'm like,
- 15:19Speaker 3: what are we doing? Benavidez is like another guy that
- 15:23Speaker 3: shouldn't be doing something like this. He said he might
- 15:25Speaker 3: fight it at heavyweight. I think, I don't know what
- 15:29Speaker 3: it was, like four or five years from now when
- 15:31Speaker 3: he spends time in cruiserweight. This feels like just, Just
- 15:36Speaker 3: putting a square peg in a round hole.
- 15:38Speaker 2: They're throwing things at the wall to try to pull
- 15:40Speaker 2: the sticks, but that fight's not happening either. There's no way.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It doesn't make sense.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, especially because Benavidez, right now the best
- 15:47Speaker 3: thing for him is to try to go for undisputed
- 15:50Speaker 3: or cruiserweight. And he's got, you know, possibly the fight
- 15:54Speaker 3: against J.O. Pattaya in May. But yeah, if this Fury
- 15:57Speaker 3: thing and Joshua falls through, does that mean they would
- 16:00Speaker 3: replace him with Benavidez in December? That's ridiculous.
- 16:02Speaker 2: No, he's not fighting him. He's not. Because it doesn't
- 16:05Speaker 2: make sense. Like, he's upstate of his career where that
- 16:07Speaker 2: doesn't make sense. Like, he's in the prime of his career.
- 16:11Speaker 2: He's at the end, absolutely, right? But, no, because also weight-wise, too,
- 16:16Speaker 2: he's at, like, 180-ish or, like, 180 or 175, 180-ish.
- 16:21Speaker 2: He'd have to go up to mess with Fury to
- 16:24Speaker 2: over 200. Now, his body supports that kind of thing,
- 16:27Speaker 2: but fighting... What happens when you get the ring at
- 16:30Speaker 2: that weight? And then what happens to your power when
- 16:32Speaker 2: you move up? There's a lot of questions, but I
- 16:34Speaker 2: would be surprised if that fight happened.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah, Benavidez should be. I think he came in 180
- 16:39Speaker 3: at his last fight around there, hovering around there. Another thing, too,
- 16:45Speaker 3: putting out there a Benavidez versus Fury doesn't feel much
- 16:48Speaker 3: different than taking an Usyk and a Fury and having
- 16:51Speaker 3: them fighting an MMA guy. No disrespect to Benavidez. I
- 16:54Speaker 3: just mean how much sense it doesn't make to be
- 16:57Speaker 3: doing that.
- 16:59Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 16:59Speaker 3: And, and really for Benjamin is, you know, I'm not
- 17:01Speaker 3: a big fan of Tyson Fury as a fighter. I
- 17:04Speaker 3: think his, his fame comes more from fighting people that
- 17:09Speaker 3: just weren't great competition as opposed to him being great himself.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I'll say that. But at the same time, you know,
- 17:15Speaker 3: that's not somebody that you just throw somebody in a
- 17:18Speaker 3: ring with who hasn't fought at heavyweight for a while.
- 17:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 17:22Speaker 3: No man's like seven, five or whatever the hell. But yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 3: like if, Let's say this. If Benavidez wanted to fight
- 17:30Speaker 3: Tyson Fury and that's something that could be made to happen,
- 17:33Speaker 3: my man needs to keep fighting cruiserweight, hit heavyweight, fight
- 17:38Speaker 3: some tuna fights, and really kind of build his way
- 17:40Speaker 3: up to that. Just in terms of just what a massive,
- 17:44Speaker 3: gigantic slab of meat Fury is. And we got some...
- 17:50Speaker 3: I looked this up. It appears that Benavidez came in
- 17:52Speaker 3: at 196.8 at the weigh-in against Zurdo Ramirez this May.
- 17:56Speaker 2: So.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Not too much of an increase, but still. Yeah, that's
- 18:01Speaker 3: something that I've always said is that you can go
- 18:03Speaker 3: up in weight and make that next level, but it
- 18:07Speaker 3: doesn't mean you're going to be able to fight well
- 18:10Speaker 3: at it. But Crawford is the only one that I really, really,
- 18:14Speaker 3: really had faith in going up two, three weight classes
- 18:17Speaker 3: to kick some ass. But we're talking about a whole
- 18:19Speaker 3: different type of guy.
- 18:20Speaker 2: No disrespect to Benavidez. Fury might be 285 on fight night.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You can't hear me. Even if Benavidez got the 210,
- 18:28Speaker 2: you're still talking about 67 pounds of weight. Like, no.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, there's been like some chatter between the commentators. Like,
- 18:37Speaker 3: should there be like a super heavyweight for guys that
- 18:40Speaker 3: are over 250? I'm not against that. I think that's
- 18:43Speaker 3: not a bad idea.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Absolutely, they should. Absolutely. Especially nowadays.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and for those of you who don't know, who
- 18:50Speaker 3: are learning about boxing, the heavyweight weight class is 200 pounds.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And unlimited.
- 18:56Speaker 3: There's no cap to that. You could be 201 and
- 19:00Speaker 3: fight a dude who's 400 pounds and that's like, that's allowed.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Fury's last fight was at 265 from his fight in
- 19:12Speaker 3: July of 2026. Anybody who wants to go heavyweight, they
- 19:17Speaker 3: definitely need to be in that higher level. You basically
- 19:21Speaker 3: need to treat the heavyweight class as being 250 and
- 19:26Speaker 3: then up, you know, times two. He came in 280,
- 19:30Speaker 3: 281 against Usyk, which was his highest. So craziness. I just,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I don't know, man. I feel like we had such
- 19:38Speaker 3: a really cool, fun summer of boxing. And then, you know,
- 19:41Speaker 3: all the news that was coming out was super exciting,
- 19:43Speaker 3: new fights getting made, new matchups, blah, blah, blah. And
- 19:46Speaker 3: then now we're just talking about this crazy shit that's
- 19:49Speaker 3: just like, what what what happened in like a few
- 19:52Speaker 3: weeks time to the sport that i love so.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Much well a lot of stuff is bargaining stuff right
- 19:57Speaker 2: you know your negotiations so you're gonna put something out
- 19:59Speaker 2: there if you're currently negotiating and you need leverage you're
- 20:02Speaker 2: gonna throw something out there it may not make sense
- 20:05Speaker 2: but you're throwing stuff out there to make leverage just
- 20:07Speaker 2: get people talking to try to get things to gain
- 20:09Speaker 2: more leverage. That's all. That's all.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and definitely things have slowed down, at least for U.S. fighters,
- 20:16Speaker 3: or at least fights in the U.S., I should say,
- 20:18Speaker 3: because this weekend there's fights in London, there's a couple
- 20:20Speaker 3: of fights in different parts of the country, like Orlando,
- 20:25Speaker 3: no disrespect, but it's not a fight capital or anything
- 20:29Speaker 3: like that. And a lot of names that I don't
- 20:31Speaker 3: personally recognize. But yeah, October 17th we got.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Sebastian Fundora returning for the TNT monthly fight, and then
- 20:39Speaker 3: we got Canelo maybe October 31st. Just before I came
- 20:44Speaker 3: on to the mic, Canelo put the fight on his
- 20:47Speaker 3: official Instagram. We mentioned that there was talks about it
- 20:50Speaker 3: being delayed because of the war in Iran, but I
- 20:53Speaker 3: don't know. There seems to be no signs of waiting
- 20:58Speaker 3: to see what happens.
- 20:59Speaker 2: It's going to be there in the next month this time.
- 21:02Speaker 2: It's scheduled, so It's all systems go. It's going to
- 21:06Speaker 2: be marketed a certain way. The tickets are very cheap
- 21:09Speaker 2: from what I saw, but I don't see anyone here
- 21:12Speaker 2: from going. I don't know how that works, but yeah. Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 3: The thing that would suck the most is moving forward
- 21:20Speaker 3: with October 31st and then the week before canceling everything
- 21:24Speaker 3: because of concerns with global affairs. I believe the State
- 21:29Speaker 3: Department is already telling people not to go anywhere near
- 21:31Speaker 3: the region.
- 21:32Speaker 2: It would not surprise me if it ended up getting moved.
- 21:34Speaker 2: So they wouldn't cancel it. They would just move it
- 21:36Speaker 2: to Submarina in Vegas or something like that. They would
- 21:39Speaker 2: just move it last minute. That's all. Well, yeah. Sorry.
- 21:41Speaker 3: When I say I just meant changing the day before,
- 21:44Speaker 3: you know, the week before.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah, they would just change the video. They would just
- 21:47Speaker 2: move it here because there's a venue open. It may
- 21:49Speaker 2: not be T-Mobile. There's a venue open that weekend if
- 21:53Speaker 2: they needed to. If they had to do it, they
- 21:55Speaker 2: can figure something out last minute if they have to.
- 21:58Speaker 3: And, you know, on a personal note, you know, this
- 22:00Speaker 3: fight is supposed to be Canelo versus Mbili October 31st,
- 22:04Speaker 3: which is Halloween, which is great. But also, man, I'm
- 22:07Speaker 3: trying to be out, you know, in a costume getting
- 22:09Speaker 3: drunk as hell downtown that night. It's going to be
- 22:13Speaker 3: harder to go to watch the fight or go out
- 22:15Speaker 3: for the fight and then come back down to Fourth Avenue.
- 22:17Speaker 3: But it just it would make my life easier if
- 22:19Speaker 3: they postponed it to November. Actually, it would have made
- 22:22Speaker 3: my life easier if they kept that shit in September
- 22:23Speaker 3: like they were supposed to. But yeah, but hey. You know,
- 22:28Speaker 3: we wanted to keep this episode short. I just wanted
- 22:30Speaker 3: to talk a little, give our opinions on the news here. But, yeah,
- 22:33Speaker 3: we're officially in October. You know, welcome to spooky season.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I'm going to be figuring out my scary movie playlist
- 22:38Speaker 3: after this. But, yeah, we're going to be talking a
- 22:40Speaker 3: lot about the news this coming week. So, Jameson, where
- 22:43Speaker 3: can people find you on social media?
- 22:45Speaker 2: On Twitter at TheJamesonMovement. Before I bounce, we got Hitchens
- 22:48Speaker 2: versus Keyshawn Davis.
- 22:50Speaker 3: That's right.
- 22:51Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah, you got to add that in. That's
- 22:53Speaker 2: a big fight. for a lot of, for both guys
- 22:56Speaker 2: who've done a lot of stuff off the ring and whatnot,
- 22:59Speaker 2: we don't see who's who. That's gonna be an interesting fight.
- 23:01Speaker 2: It's not like a career maker or a career buster,
- 23:04Speaker 2: but it's going to be a fight that I think
- 23:06Speaker 2: Hitchens should be the favorite in that fight when he
- 23:08Speaker 2: gets kind of official, but that's the fight that I
- 23:10Speaker 2: look forward to watching the most.
- 23:11Speaker 3: A hundred percent, especially if Keyshawn ups them bullshit again.
- 23:15Speaker 3: You know, we've already talked a lot about how I
- 23:17Speaker 3: wanted to be, I wanted to be the biggest Keyshawn
- 23:19Speaker 3: fan in the world and he just makes it harder
- 23:21Speaker 3: and harder. But, uh, No, I think this is a
- 23:23Speaker 3: perfect test for Hitchens. I think this is one of
- 23:26Speaker 3: the most anticipated fights for the next several months. So, yeah, absolutely.
- 23:31Speaker 3: So we'll be keeping up with that and talking more
- 23:32Speaker 3: about that as it gets closer. So you can follow
