- 0:21All right, everybody, you are listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at Philadelphia
- 0:25Sports Stable podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:29world. Week nine of the Philadelphia Eagles twenty twenty three twenty twenty four season
- 0:34is now in the books. They beat the Dallas Cowboys, another divisional win
- 0:39at the Link. I score twenty eight to twenty three. It was a
- 0:43nail fighter coming down to the last play of the game. I am Jeff
- 0:47Warren and I'm here at my buddy from the honorable mentioned podcast. I listen
- 0:51on Apple podcast. We've got, as I usually say, the one and
- 0:55only Matt Rogers. Buddy, how you doing. I don't know. If
- 0:59I don't know, I'm okay. You know. You know my heart has
- 1:03gotten back down to regular, regular rhythm pattern. Yeah, exactly, My
- 1:08gosh, after that one, Holy cow. Look, it was not the
- 1:14greatest game from the Eagles defense. And this is now two straight games I
- 1:19think where we have seen defensive struggles time and time again, and the offense
- 1:23continues to bail out this Eagles team time and time again. Here man,
- 1:27defensive struggles continue to persist. I am so happy with this win against Dallas
- 1:32Cowboys and the divisional win, third one of this year. But I'm still
- 1:38I'm still really concerned about this defense. I'm concerned about the injuries, and
- 1:41i know we're gonna get into all this stuff here, So buddy, I'm
- 1:44gonna let you first go at what's your biggest theme of the game here?
- 1:47As we're you know, looking towards this bye week here, what's your biggest
- 1:51theme and takeaway from this game? Right? My biggest theme, of course
- 1:55is yeah, obviously you play the Cowboys, you want to win by a
- 1:59million. But as we get here to another part of this week where people
- 2:05are going to be looking at math, you know, the math, we're
- 2:07at halfway, we're a little bit past the halfway point of the season.
- 2:12The Eagles are have eight wins, you know, they win half of their
- 2:16the remaining games, they'll have twelve, you know, getting towards twelve thirteen
- 2:21wins. They've got three divisional wins in their pocket, and so they're in
- 2:24really good pole position, you know, with the Cowboys, basically in the
- 2:30cellar with the Commanders, with the Commanders with one less win than them this
- 2:34season. Of course, they have more losses, but the Commanders actually have
- 2:38had to play the Eagles twice, and the Commanders are four and three against
- 2:40everybody except for the Eagles. So it's you know the rest of the division,
- 2:46which is the Giants are just pitiful team. Yes, so that part
- 2:53is over, so I really I'm at a metal. My takeaway from this
- 2:57game is this puts the Eagles heading into the bye week in a really really
- 3:01good position watching football next week. I don't know who the commit Cowboys have,
- 3:07you know, should they be able to log another loss. I mean,
- 3:12the Eagles are sitting pretty and really trying to get themselves ready for postseason
- 3:16action. In this game, yeah, this Eagles team definitely needs this bye
- 3:21week coming up. With regard to the injuries, I mean, the biggest
- 3:23injury coming out of this game Dallas Goddard in the third quarter. It's either
- 3:27his elbow or his forearm. He was downgraded to out after that particular play.
- 3:31It was a fantastic play, a twenty eight yard pass play from Jalen
- 3:37Hurts to Goddard there and it was actually that play. It was that play
- 3:43Matt where Jalen Hurts surpassed Tommy Thompson, who played for this Eagles organization from
- 3:47nineteen forty one to nineteen fifty and Jalen Hurts actually passed him for the sixth
- 3:53most passing yards in Eagles history ten two hundred and forty already point, yes,
- 4:00already at this point in his career. So I mean, you gotta
- 4:02give Jalen Hurts so much credit in terms of what he did in this game.
- 4:06We're gonna get to Jalen in just a bit here. But again,
- 4:10in terms of the injuries, Dallas god Her and quite frankly, we saw
- 4:13Jordan Davis hobbling off the field, Fletcher Cox hobbling off the field, Milton
- 4:16Williams, all these guys injured in the first half. Ni Kobe Dean was
- 4:20limping off the field at one point with the foot injury. He was not
- 4:24able to come back at all. And it's it's really concerning how a lot
- 4:30of this defensive players and defensive studs too have been really dealing with injuries.
- 4:34This bye week could not be coming at a better time. Yeah, we'll
- 4:39get to this later. I had something, so I'll put a pin in
- 4:41that as we moved to the next segment. I don't want to cook it
- 4:45sounds good, sounds good to me well and for me. I think one
- 4:49of the biggest themes of this game too, from an offensive standpoint, Matt,
- 4:54is that you had one quarterback that was able to really make plays when
- 4:58he needed to and another quarterback who is not able to make plays when they
- 5:00needed to. Not a superstar. Just can we say now Dak is not
- 5:04an NFL superstar, He's just not. I mean, I think we could
- 5:08have said that a little while ago. To quite frankly, I mean,
- 5:11you look at the stat sheets. Dak had a pretty decent day twenty nine.
- 5:14He had a good game. Yeah, he did from a stats perspective,
- 5:17but when it comes down to those plays where when you need that fourth
- 5:21down play or it's crunch time, when you have your night, he's not
- 5:26your guy. He's just not your guy at all. Jalen Hurts is,
- 5:29Yeah, Jalen Hurts he is. It's amazing. Seventeen of twenty three,
- 5:32two hundred and seven yards, not a ton of yards on the day,
- 5:35but what he was able to do with his legs, how he kept drives
- 5:39alive, he average nine yards per attempt, two touchdowns he threw, and
- 5:43he ended with a rating of one hundred and thirty point two. Incredible and
- 5:47incredible. It's a bad man, absolutely, and it's only getting better,
- 5:51only getting better. NFL fans absolutely're not if you're if you're not an Eagles
- 5:56fan, you know, well, I'm sorry to be you. Yeah,
- 5:59sorry, but right, Jalen Hurts getting the crap kicked out of his knee
- 6:06the way that he did in the second right before the half, right before
- 6:10the you know, in the second quarter, right before the half, and
- 6:13he was able to get back in there. I mean, I'm assuming you
- 6:16had to get some sort of shot or took some sort of Oh we got
- 6:19they said he he had an IV. No, that's right, he had
- 6:23an IV in mixed Sirianni's office apparently. Yes, so hey, whatever you
- 6:28need exactly. Jalen Hurts the absolute stud of this game, getting it done
- 6:31when he needed to. And uh again, that's one of my biggest takeaways.
- 6:35Do you have any other takeaways and themes from this game you want to
- 6:40get into here, Matt, Yeah, yeah, And I hate to be
- 6:43the bearer bad news on this again. I'm going to beat this drum,
- 6:46just like I said for a while before the Eagles had gotten rid of Anthony
- 6:49Harris, that he was looking a little slow. Uh, you know,
- 6:53James Bradberry's just looking slow as a NFL dB. He's getting picked on it
- 6:59as when the chips were down, who did the who did the who did
- 7:01the Cowboys decide? Oh, we're throwing at this guy, James Bradberry.
- 7:06Every single time when it's a foot race, they're throwing at James Bradberry.
- 7:11The Eagles have to figure out, how are we gonna are we gonna try
- 7:14to roll him into some three safety kind of looks. Can Bradbury be an
- 7:17effective safety? Try to train up some of these other guys to be because
- 7:21as as far as just coverage, yeah he can be in the vicinity,
- 7:26but it doesn't really matter in the NFL because if you get these great quarterbacks
- 7:30like Josh Allen or Joe Burrow, they'll fit it in a tight space.
- 7:33And yeah, James Bradberry, you were close, but you're just getting beat,
- 7:39you know, in a foot race. So that's a big that's a
- 7:41big thing. And uh. Also I'm also looking forward to seeing how much
- 7:47they continue to integrate Julio Jones in that tight end kind of role, receiving
- 7:53tight end kind of role. That's the that's the role I see him.
- 7:58I don't think he's really talking about not you know, being a low long
- 8:01in the tooth and not being able to beat people in terms of speed.
- 8:03Putting him on the outside is kind of a fool's errand but I really like
- 8:07him in the red zone, you know, two tight end kind of mix
- 8:09and mesh and all kinds of things like that, which they probably are going
- 8:13to need to do with Dallas Goddard and his potential injury. I know we
- 8:16still have to wait for a word on what Goddard's injury is going to be.
- 8:18But I think it's a great point, Matt. It's a fantastic point.
- 8:22You know, Julio Jones may be that tight end type of personnel player
- 8:26that this Eagles team is going to need depending on what happens with Dallas Goddard.
- 8:31But it's interesting how you mentioned cornerback James Bradberry because another corner well,
- 8:37I'm sorry, safety Kevin Byrd, who was just recently brought in in a
- 8:43trade. And frankly, I mean yes, I love nine total tackles on
- 8:48the day. Second in the team in total tackles. Zach Cunningham was first
- 8:52with ten, but in terms of coverage, there are times when I'm seeing
- 8:56Kevin Byard, I'm seeing Darius Slay read blank and ship James Bradberry. We
- 9:01already talked about poor Eli Rix was getting picked on early by Ceedee Lamb.
- 9:05I'm not sure why Sean Desaigh decided that that was going to be the best
- 9:09course of action, but I'm seeing a lot of these guys. Whether it
- 9:13is the zone coverage that is being consistently played by Sean Decigh, I'm not
- 9:18sure if he's putting these guys in the best possible position. I'm not sure.
- 9:22Because Kevin Byern I wanted him to be that difference maker coming right in,
- 9:28and of course he's making tackles that he needs to make, which is
- 9:31great. But I'm talking about being a difference maker in terms of just being
- 9:35disruptive in the defensive blackfield, and we haven't seen it yet, and I
- 9:37know he's only been here a couple of weeks, but my gosh, it's
- 9:41I need to see that from this defensive secondary. The secondary's really struggling here,
- 9:46Matt, Yeah, they are, and I think it's just you know,
- 9:50they made the right move. James Bradberry played his cards, right,
- 9:54he played really well, they went all the way to the Super Bowl.
- 9:56They were able to get the bargain on him that they could and so you
- 10:01know, quarter corners of the ilk of James Bradberry just don't grow on trees.
- 10:05And you know you got to kind of pay that price. Yeah,
- 10:07But what you're seeing is is why in the NFL they don't like to try
- 10:13to pay guys at thirty thirty one because you're only going to get so you
- 10:16know, you're only gonna get slower. Yeah, and you can see you
- 10:20can see that in James game. And he's still a good player. He's
- 10:24still right there in coverage as a heavy player. You know, is not
- 10:26afraid to confront in the running game. So it's not to you know,
- 10:31talk about his his motivation or his his intellect as a player. It's just
- 10:37he just looks slower. Yes, effect he absolutely does. And it's something
- 10:41that we're going to be keeping tabs on. Certainly we've talked a number of
- 10:45times, even when Matt has not been on the podcast here and doing the
- 10:48postgame shows. Matt, it's something we've been talking about. You're here on
- 10:52this podcast, and I think others are talking about it as well. I
- 10:54did want to get into some notable milestones. Of course, I already mentioned
- 11:00Jalen Hurts surpassing Tommy Thompson's record for sixth not record, but have six most
- 11:07passing yards in Eagles history. Jalen Hurts also set an Eagles quarterback record with
- 11:11his thirty third career rushing touchdown, passed Randall Cunningham on the Eagles all time
- 11:16rushing touchdown list, which was great. Davonte Smith, even his touchdown that
- 11:22he had in this game gave him two hundred career With that touchdown that he
- 11:26had, it was his two hundredth career reception. There was one gentleman,
- 11:30one one wide receiver who reached that mark faster and franchise history, and that
- 11:35was Jordan Matthews believe it or not. Wow, yes, oh no,
- 11:41oh, and then hoping much better for you, Davonte, exactly exactly,
- 11:46man, I have a Jordan Matthews Jersey believe it or not. I do,
- 11:50haven't worn it in a while. So he finished up as like a
- 11:52tight end for San Francisco, right, Yeah, I think so. I
- 11:56think that talk about the Julio Jones kind of thing. I think they kind
- 12:00converted him to the tight end. But I don't know if. I don't
- 12:03know if he even I don't even remember a catch. I don't know if
- 12:07Yeah, I'm not sure if he did. I don't know if a regular
- 12:11season catch was logged or target. But what else? Jordan Matthews great moments,
- 12:16including in Louisiana super Dome in the playoffs with Nikky six. Oh yes,
- 12:20absolutely, absolutely and real quick too. AJ Brown the fastest Eagles player
- 12:26to reach one thousand yards in a season. He's done it in nine games,
- 12:30folks, He's over one thousand. Oh my, got in nine games.
- 12:35Still, We've still got more time. We've got more weeks, more
- 12:37football coming. And A J. Brown is just a fun games yeah,
- 12:41oh yes, it's amazing games left. Yes, oh man. Oh Son
- 12:48Reddick too. From the defensive side of things, A Son Reddick now has
- 12:52ten plus sacks in his last three seasons. Fantastic defensive player there. NFL
- 12:56superstar. Yeah, that's NFL superstar, Dak Prescott, NFL superstar, Hassan
- 13:03re Yes, what's the respect on the day. Look, this was one
- 13:07that could have slipped. It could have slipped for the Eagles. Matt This
- 13:09is one of those games, one of those divisional games where it's a knockdown,
- 13:16drag out type of situation. That's what we saw. We saw it
- 13:20against the Commanders last week. This is what happens in the NFC East again,
- 13:24like you mentioned, New York Giants, not the greatest team in the
- 13:28world, and people are probably gonna actually the worst. Yes, people are
- 13:31gonna plow over them, of course, but this is that division game where
- 13:35it's gonna come down. How many times have we seen it over theyres where
- 13:37it's gonna come down to the fourth quarter. It's gonna come down to just
- 13:41a couple of plays here or there to determine the outcome. And I have
- 13:45a feeling we're probably gonna see this when the Eagles head down to Dallas toward
- 13:48the end of the season. So it's gonna be It's always fun. It
- 13:52is. It is, so before we head into UH grades and uh you
- 13:56know, coaches grades, Do you have any other themes that you want to
- 13:58get in here? Buddy? I like the Rashad Penny. I don't I
- 14:05don't know what happened there. I don't know. It looks like he was
- 14:09getting integrated in and then he just disappears. Yeah, it didn't look like
- 14:13he'd missed the holes. He was doing what you want Penny to do at
- 14:18the running back approaches. It just he had two carries eight yards he average,
- 14:24what are we doing yards per carry? It's not like he's some change
- 14:26of pace back or anything like. If you're gonna play him, play him
- 14:31and let's be hon it like this was this. There were a lot of
- 14:35rushes in this game, and yes, ten of them came from Jalen Hurts.
- 14:39Not all of them were designed rushes, of course, but in terms
- 14:41of rushing, thirty three rushes for one hundred and nine yards three point three
- 14:46yards per attempt overall for this team. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts threw the ball
- 14:50twenty three times, so it was more of a quote rushing attack, but
- 14:54I think more balanced. In the end, DeAndre Swift did not have the
- 14:58greatest. Eighteen carries for forty three yards. He averaged two point four yards
- 15:03per carry, And it begs the question, as you're mentioning here, Matt
- 15:07Rashad Penny, you know, let's get him a little bit more active and
- 15:11integrated into this game year. I think it just helps the mentality of the
- 15:16team too, because it's such a he's that battering ram. The only way
- 15:20that this makes sense, like that his playing time makes sense is if Nick
- 15:24Sirianni in the in the offensive coaching staff are concerned about Penny's ball security,
- 15:31that's the only way that they make sense, Like we can't afford to allow
- 15:35him to put the ball on the ground. That's the only way that he
- 15:37gets two carries rushes above what the team ended up you know, doing all
- 15:43day. The team does three points something Penny did four. Yeah, but
- 15:48he can't get he got the rock twice. That's crazy. I mean,
- 15:50look, DeAndre Swift fumbled twice. DeAndre Swift fumbled twice. Jalen Hurts fumbled
- 15:56as well. I mean, there's still fumble issues with this team after nine
- 16:00games on the season here, and if they're worried about set Penny fumbling the
- 16:04ball, I mean we're seeing it week after week here with DeAndre Swift and
- 16:10even with Jalen Hurts. But I think the difference is, especially with those
- 16:14two guys, is that the end of the day, they're still gonna be
- 16:17able to move the ball. And it really does come down to putting the
- 16:19ball and Jalen Hurts his hands, letting him take the offense down the field,
- 16:25which he is consistently done over and over and again. My last theme
- 16:29here, Matt, is that Jalen Hurts is consistently moving this offense down the
- 16:34field. The consistency of the offense is something that it's amazing to behold.
- 16:41Even though these games are close, the Washington game, both Washington games are
- 16:45close. Even though this Cowboys game was a close one, the consistency of
- 16:48the Eagles offense never ceases to amaze me. The just the connection between Jalen
- 16:56Hurts and AJ Brown. Yeah, AJ Brown did not have a one and
- 17:00twenty five plus yard game for the first time in six games here or seven
- 17:06games. Not a default. I'm sorry that that became a default for a
- 17:11wi right right. It doesn't mean he had a bad game yet, not
- 17:12at all a fantastic game catching a touchdown. Devonte Smith caught a touchdown as
- 17:17well. So I think the consistency of this Eagles offense is a major theme
- 17:22that we need to consistently be talking about throughout this bye week. Absolutely,
- 17:27yep, all right, do you got anything else before we head to break
- 17:30and then get back for the grades. Julio Jones look out for him.
- 17:33Ooh, Dallas got its industry. Okay, right, sounds good. I
- 17:38think I think what you said earlier said at all you know, you'd be
- 17:41him being used in a tight end capacity. That's going to be really interesting
- 17:47to see how they utilize him, for sure. So bye week. Yep,
- 17:49absolutely all right. We are going to head to a break real quick
- 17:52to pay some bills, folks. We will be back in just a bit.
- 17:56All right, we are back. Got Matt Rogers with us from the
- 18:00Honorable mentioned podcast to follow him on Twitter at politidope. He is also on
- 18:04threads at politidope as well. And I listened to the Honorable Mention podcast on
- 18:10Apple Podcast and you should listen to it on whatever podcast platform you're listening to
- 18:12us on right now, let's get into these grades. We're going to grade
- 18:17by units, starting with the quarterback position. I am giving Jalen Hurts this
- 18:19week an A minus. What do you actually I'm just going to give him
- 18:23an A. You know, I was gonna give him the minus for the
- 18:26fumble Dad. Everything ended up turning out our right there with that, however,
- 18:32Jalen Hurts his consistency is why I'm going to give him an a.
- 18:36Just a fantastic performance. We went over the box score earlier in the game.
- 18:40I'm giving him an A. What do you give him this week?
- 18:41Matt? I want to give him an A. But it's like if I
- 18:45if I'm being objective, I'm giving him an A because I know that he's
- 18:51dealing with an injury. Yeah, I think because there were some misses,
- 18:59but you know, you know, degree of difficulty does matter, kind of
- 19:03hemming and hawing. I think I think I'm just gonna go ahead and give
- 19:07him an ay because we do know that he's injured. So absolutely what a
- 19:11performance with a bum knee? So yeah, all right the site McNabb's game
- 19:18where he had like the broken ankle and he threw four touchdowns against the Cardinals,
- 19:22it's like, yep, you can't be like, well, if he
- 19:23wasn't injured, you know, and he can't thrown six you know, exactly
- 19:32all right? The running backs this week again, you know, Kenny Gainwell
- 19:36only carried the ball three times, twenty two total yards, seven point three
- 19:40yards per carry, pretty nice on three carries, scored a touchdown, and
- 19:45Jalen Hurts we know had a rushing touchdown as well. DeAndre Swift, as
- 19:48I mentioned earlier, only two point four yards per carry. I felt like
- 19:52the rushing attack wasn't necessarily the primary goal and objective of how they were going
- 19:56to try to take apart this Cowboys defense. So I'm going to give the
- 20:00running backs this week a C plus. It wasn't necessarily the greatest performance in
- 20:04the world, but I don't necessarily think they were called upon too too much.
- 20:08What do you give the running backs this week, Matt, Yeah,
- 20:12I give him a C plus. Yeah, c ish, But the game,
- 20:18well, touchdown to get the party started to flip in the hands.
- 20:21Oh yeah, good, go ahead and take your C plus exactly, all
- 20:23right, sounds good. Tight ends and wide receivers the receiving corps here two
- 20:30hundred and seven total yards. They averaged twelve point two yards per reception.
- 20:33Two touchdowns on the day. AJ Brown with sixty six yards, Davante Smith
- 20:38with fifty one yards, Dallas Goddard with fifty yards as well. Again,
- 20:42they needed to make plays when they needed to make plays. I was a
- 20:45little surprised that Davante Smith was only targeted three times in this game, and
- 20:49he came down with all three balls according to the stat sheet here. So
- 20:55I'm going to give the wide receivers a B this week? What do you
- 20:56give them? Same? More? Yeah? Like be minus. I I
- 21:02liked that they were able to spread spread the ball around, but I need
- 21:04to see more from Devonte' Smith. I'm actually, to be completely honest,
- 21:08disappointed with Devonte Smith this season. I mean, he he is getting the
- 21:14way AJ Brown has completely taken over the NFL. He teams cannot defend him
- 21:21the way that they should be able to, and he should be feasting and
- 21:23he's not. And so it's kind of it's kind of mounting disappointment. I
- 21:29think he you know, he's playing well, but it's like it can always
- 21:32be said, like if you took AJ Brown away and you rolled that main
- 21:37h you know, double coverage over to him, what he would he be
- 21:41doing what he does? And right now, I gotta as an honest NFL
- 21:45fan, I would have to say that I don't expect him to do that.
- 21:48He needs to step in and and and make people like meat eat those
- 21:52words, because he's got all the skills. He's in year two, he's
- 21:56going to be asking for his money. Davante stepped the hell up. Yep,
- 22:00great points, great points for sure. Let's move over to the offensive
- 22:03line, and this is an offensive line I think that had some struggles here
- 22:07and there throughout the day. You know, at the end of the day,
- 22:11this team wins again twenty eight to twenty three. But Tyler Steen as
- 22:15a rookie coming in his very first start, I think there was a little
- 22:18bit of disconnect with regard to him and Lane Johnson. Sometimes that pass protection
- 22:23was breaking down on the right side of that offensive line. And you know,
- 22:29it's weird you have Jason Kelcey actually getting a penalty in this game.
- 22:33It wins, Like the last time you've heard Jason Kelcey being penalized for anything,
- 22:37and especially a false start kind of bizarre. I'm not going to grade
- 22:41based on Kelsey's penalty by any stretch, but Jordan Mylotta having a bit of
- 22:47difficulties here and there throughout the game. Not a perfect game by the offensive
- 22:49line by any stretch. And it is a tough Dallas defense. I mean,
- 22:53let's be honest, it's a tough Dallas defense. So actually, I'm
- 22:56gonna give the offensive line a B minus this week. What do you give
- 23:00by same, same, same, and I am and I'm glad you raised
- 23:03the Jordan my loot of thing. I think you know not to you know,
- 23:07diss him or try to slam him, but I think he would be
- 23:11a more dominant left guard. I know we have Landon Dickerson and so we
- 23:15have the team that we have. Yeah, but his build, his get
- 23:18off is just not fast enough. Like if we say, I mean,
- 23:22the Browns are not going to get there, so we don't have to worry
- 23:25about this. But let's say we were to play the Rounds in the super
- 23:27Bowl, which we're not going to do because the Browns aren't that good.
- 23:30But that get off with Miles Garrett, he's just gonna blow by Ma Jordan
- 23:34my lot. I'm seeing him get just blown past way too often. Yeah,
- 23:40it's it's concerning, but it's still a very dominant offensive line. Go,
- 23:45I'm definitely going with your B minus on that. All right, let's
- 23:48move over to the defense right now, the defensive line. I thought it
- 23:51was interesting how at the earlier this afternoon, I got a text from from
- 23:57the gentleman that I'm talking to here. Matt sends me a text and he's
- 24:00like five sacks. He's like, I'm calling five sacks on the day,
- 24:04and I was like, affirmative, Absolutely you did. And I honestly thought
- 24:07to myself, I was like, ooh, I'm like, if they get
- 24:10five sacks, it means defense is playing pretty good. It means that the
- 24:14you know, there's gonna be a decent amount of quarterback hits. And at
- 24:15the end of the day, five sacks, four tackles for a loss,
- 24:19ten quarterback hits. I mean the defensive line against a very prolific Cowboys offensive
- 24:25line I thought did pretty well in this game. They made plays when they
- 24:29needed to, and I think at the end of the day, that's why
- 24:32I'm going to be giving them an a minus. What do you give them?
- 24:34That's right, Yep, that's right. I really I love that that
- 24:40when the when the chips were down, they that's the way they build this
- 24:42team. Everybody wants people to go and get Bjohn Robinson, go get Christian
- 24:47Gonzalez, go and get all these different skill players, flashy positions, wide
- 24:51receiver. No, we're getting defensive live, a defensive live in the next
- 24:55year, the defensive live in the next year. And that's just the way
- 24:57they build this team. And when the Chips were down, Brandon Graham,
- 25:00the oldster, comes back with a sack, comes back with another stack.
- 25:03Then then Josh Sweat comes off the edge with the freaking play of the game.
- 25:07Yes, Josh Sweat with the team MVP play of the game today,
- 25:11wax the hell out of deck. Jalen Carter comes with some extra violence.
- 25:17It's very exciting. I did I talked myself into an A When the Chips
- 25:21were down, the defensive lied, took the hell over. They did.
- 25:23They absolutely did when they needed to because the secondary wasn't given much help throughout
- 25:29this game. So no, they were not. And with that, talking
- 25:32about weighted yeah, I'm not going to talk myself into an A plus.
- 25:34But with that it's it's worth discussing. But we only have a certain amount
- 25:37of times. Yeah, absolutely, all right, let's move to the linebackers.
- 25:42Linebackers were absolutely nonexistent up until the second half when Zach Cunningham really brought
- 25:48it. He was all over the field in the second half. But I
- 25:52do have to say, I mean, yes, na, Kobe Dean going
- 25:56out with a foot injury. You know he's now he now quote has this
- 26:00injury history here in his very brief time in the NFL. I'm not sure
- 26:04if we can say to Kobe Dean is necessarily a dud at this point,
- 26:10but I'm going there. I'm ahead of there with a bullet. Yeah,
- 26:14it's getting real close. We're getting close to the close. Yes, yes,
- 26:21I love the B words so much. But I'm gonna look, they
- 26:23rebounded in the second half. I am going to give them a I'm actually
- 26:27gonna give them a C plus because it was a straight up F in the
- 26:30first half. It was an F for sure. They rebound the second half
- 26:33C plus for me. What do you give the linebackers, buddy, Yeah,
- 26:38C plus. I also just want to say, I'm gonna slam Tony
- 26:42Poler looks like he sucks, Like I'm sorry all this all this talk about
- 26:47him in the average Yeah, I mean, dude, like this is you
- 26:52guys need Tony Pollard to be a dominant player because the way that they're calling
- 26:56their the Dallas Cowboys off and they you can tell that they don't trust Dak
- 27:03So Tony Pollard needs to step up. These backup Ricodowdell I believe, I
- 27:07mean, they're doing nothing. So yeah, the linebacker, the Eagles linebackers
- 27:11might have actually played like an f today, but y'all are looking like you
- 27:15suck. So I'm gonna go ahead and give them a c witis. I
- 27:18keep it moving. That sounds good. Coming into this game, Tony Pollard
- 27:22was averaging three point nine yards per carry only two touchdowns on the season,
- 27:26Matt, So, yeah, it might be more about Tony than about That's
- 27:29true, very true, very true. All right, secondary man, Eagles
- 27:33secondary, as we know, crap the bed. They They're getting a D
- 27:37minus from me. I mean, it could be an F dus territory.
- 27:41It was terrible. What do you really want? It really was and if
- 27:45not for and if not for our buddy Blanken ship to stopping the guy from
- 27:51like advancing the ball like a millimeter, yeah that's a that's a touchdown.
- 27:55And we're having a completely different conversation. So bailed out by the defensive line
- 28:00built out by Jalen secondary, get it together, absolutely all right, let's
- 28:04head to the coaches special teams. I have to say that it was a
- 28:10bit disappointing with regard to special teams. And I say that because the Eagles
- 28:15kicking team. Let Cavana Cavanta sorry, Cavanta Turpin get a forty seven yard
- 28:19return in the first quarter, and this special team's play, this particular one,
- 28:26led to Dallas scoring their first touchdown of the game, and it was
- 28:30it was a terrible effort by the special teams. Then again, we did
- 28:34see Brandon Mann with a huge punt at the end of the game to put
- 28:37the Cowboys inside their own fifteen. Not that it mattered because the Eagles secondary
- 28:41was terrible. As we were just talking about, Oh my gosh, yeah,
- 28:44let him go eighty yards with no timeouts. Yep, people, yep,
- 28:48absolutely realize how hard that is to do. Exactly right. Jake Elli
- 28:55maked all four of his extra points, which is fantastic, and one of
- 28:59his extra points I think was close to forty five yards. Because of penalties
- 29:03in this game, which, by the way, the penalties were absolutely astonishing
- 29:07and ridiculous from these officials. There was twenty total penalties. Each team had
- 29:11ten each in this game. But anyway, as we're running out of time,
- 29:15I'm going to give special teams this week a see a straight up sea
- 29:18what do you give them? Yeah? And I and I think that the
- 29:22Eagles are just planning for the time that the NFL takes away the punt return
- 29:27kick return. I think that the Eagles are just fined, like just don't
- 29:30let special teams screw up the game exactly. That's just the way that they're
- 29:33coaching it at this point. Absolutely, Sean decide the defensive side of things,
- 29:40the defensive coaching. I'm going to be giving him a D this week
- 29:44actually because I don't necessarily think that having Eli Rix on CD Lamb for an
- 29:49entire was the best course of action, and to not realize that earlier and
- 29:56to allow Dallas down the getting down the field with Ceedee Lamb, and with
- 30:00Ceedee Lamb just absolutely eating today one hundred and ninety one Michael Gallup even have
- 30:04multiple catches, Like, who else on the receiving cord did anything exactly?
- 30:10Ceedee Lamb was targeted sixteen times in this game. He came down with eleven
- 30:12balls for one hundred and ninety one yards. He averaged seventeen point four yards
- 30:15per reception. So Sean Desigh is actually going to get a D for me
- 30:19this week. I thought, I thought it was a terrible, terrible coaching
- 30:22performance from him. What do you give him? Yeah? I mean again,
- 30:26passable d minus. Not even he barely passed the class. Buddy,
- 30:33you really might just want to take this one over again. Yep. Because
- 30:37because until the final because until the final drive when the Chips were down,
- 30:41they didn't put slave. Why can't Slay match up if they moved Lamb into
- 30:45the slot? Duh, That's what everybody does. They put their best receivers
- 30:49in the side. Justin Jefferson goes in the side. Doesn't mean you put
- 30:52Eli Rix there exactly. Kevin byered, what the hell are we doing?
- 30:56Yeah, exact? Who else is going to hurt you from the Dallas.
- 30:57It's it's just dumb football. Like to be honest, Matt is talking sense,
- 31:02folks, Lots of sense here for sure. Let's move to the offensive
- 31:07side of things. Nick Sirianni, Brian Johnson. I'm gonna give these guys
- 31:11a bee this week, you know, because I think, as we saw
- 31:14last week with the Commanders, I think the players ended up just winning this
- 31:18game. It wasn't necessarily coaching that that got the job done. It was
- 31:22these players on off again, AJ Brown, DeVante Smith and Jalen Hurts.
- 31:30Of course, for sure, these three guys just getting it done on the
- 31:33offensive side of the ball. I'm gonna give the coaching, the offensive coaching
- 31:37to be this week, what do you give them? Same? And they
- 31:40almost and and people won't talk much about it because there are so many exciting
- 31:44plays that you know, pivotal plays. That third and three call where they
- 31:48take the deep shot on the last offensive Egles drive, that you do a
- 31:52stop and go on that third and three is just insane. Yes, knowing
- 31:56what you have in terms of the Eagles, you get something else. Why
- 32:00are we taking that? Why didn't we take that shot on second down?
- 32:01So yes, that the players just you know, put the team on their
- 32:06backs. But take this week, offensive coach, coach, offensive play callers,
- 32:12let's get it together, guys, absolutely get it together. This pert
- 32:15team is not perfect yet. They are eight and one, best record in
- 32:19the NFL. Again, always get better. Yes, the Philadelphia Eagles beating
- 32:22the Dallas Cowboys at the Link by a score of twenty eight to twenty three.
- 32:25They are first in the NFC East, first of the NFC. They
- 32:30are creating their own destiny. And do we want to thank again Matt Rodgers
- 32:34from the Honorable Mentioned podcast for joining us. Honorable Mention podcast is always great
