- 0:00Yo, R and B groups from the nineties. Dog, I was talking
- 0:05about high five. I don't think you caught me when I said, yeah
- 0:08five like that Sammy little Haward. Oh no, what was high five?
- 0:15Like the way I like to I know that you kiss me? I knew
- 0:24that ship I got was that joint and the harder yet too she's playing high
- 0:30Yeah, that was some joints. I'm a little a couple of Terramnus deep.
- 0:37You know what I'm saying. Birthday weekend. It's about drive, It's
- 0:39about power. Yo, It's funny. I think we talked about it a
- 0:44little bit, but I was toasted that Jarry episode. Dog. Yeah.
- 0:48Remember. Yeah, everybody that hasn't that's been on the pod that hasn't heard
- 0:53that episode, go back. It's probably like episode I want to say,
- 0:57like fifteen twenty. Look for Jarry Knows and just listen to that episode and
- 1:02go ahead and enjoy. Yo. I was in my full drunk uncle like,
- 1:06Yo, the drunk uncle mode was super activated. Like even the way
- 1:11I was talking, everything was so funny. Man. Yeah, he would
- 1:14ask something, he'd be like, Okay, fuck that, listen, what
- 1:15we're gonna talk about? Facts? Bro? You know we need to run
- 1:23back clips from the earlier episodes for a fact, maybe the facts facts we
- 1:32are. I think that's when we could reveal the state. Butter Yo,
- 1:37Quincy, you think you would be comfortable kind of breaking down the story of
- 1:42the Martin thing that we were talking about earlier, like as far as like
- 1:47the whole situation happened. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So basically, um,
- 1:53you know, just for everybody listening, let's kind of drop like a
- 1:56clip in the chat where um, who was it, um, Eric Spears
- 2:00and what was that Bill Bellamy? Um? Yeah, they were just legends
- 2:06in the comedy game. Anybody that's in the know about comedy, we have
- 2:08facts and so basically what they were discussing was um and an older comic by
- 2:15the name of Derek Fox. And Derek Fox at the end of his set
- 2:20he would always do, um this uh you know kind of like chantey and
- 2:25something. You mentioned Quincy that as soon as Bill Bellamy mentioned uh, Derek
- 2:30Fox, Airy Spears was like, oh, I know where that's going on
- 2:34exactly up and so like to go to that point, I'll tell the story
- 2:38and go back to that point. But basically, um, Chantay is uh
- 2:43um kind of a character that he puts on at the end of his set,
- 2:46and you know, once he puts that character on on, you kind
- 2:50of already know where he's going with it. And come to find out,
- 2:53the long story short, Martin Lawrence comes to one of the shows um and
- 2:58does a set, and then uh, Eric Fox does a set, and
- 3:01you know, a short time after that, Martin has his show and the
- 3:07chene character comes about, and so you know, basically to go back to
- 3:12the point that you just you know mentioned less. You know, when I
- 3:15saw the clip, the first thing I saw was the fact that this is
- 3:17a common thing known in the comedy circle. In that industry, it's common
- 3:24get stolen all the time. Bro right, not decide bar. But I
- 3:29remember the first time I got really exposed to was my favorite George Lopez jokes
- 3:34when I was big George Lopez fan. Carlos Mencia came out and said,
- 3:38those are all my jokes. But I have history, and this was years
- 3:42ago, over ten years ago. So yeah, I've definitely been privy two
- 3:46jokes being stolen in the comedy industry, and I'm sure it happens. I
- 3:50think for me, my take on it is that it's like you know,
- 3:53if you didn't, if you didn't pay somebody, like, for example,
- 3:55a rapper, when they pay a ghostwriter, it's like you own that property,
- 3:59you know what's and you paid for it. You own that intellectual property.
- 4:01If you didn't pay for it, if you didn't hire them, if
- 4:04you know there's nothing tied to them that makes it okay for you to imitate
- 4:11it, and you don't at least pay homage to the person you're imitating,
- 4:14then it's that's kind of waxed me. You know what I'm saying. I
- 4:16got a question for you. The person who originated it, could they have
- 4:20done more to prevent that? You said? The person that could have?
- 4:26Oh no, I don't think so. No we can't because you never know,
- 4:29I mean, copy written that joke or that character. That's what I'm
- 4:32asking, Like, you think that is there anything that he could have done
- 4:35more to prevent that from happening? I mean he probably could have copy written
- 4:40the I mean, but even then, it's like, yeah, there's no
- 4:45way, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, And the top of that,
- 4:47it's like, you know, why would you I feel like in comedy,
- 4:55like unless I'm releasing a special bro every time I go on stage.
- 4:59It's practice, you know what I'm saying. So it's like, why would
- 5:00you even think that, like I need to like protect this character because it
- 5:04might not work, you know what I'm saying, It might Yeah, yeah,
- 5:09So check this out, Devil's advocate. Let let's bring up Wentworth for
- 5:15example, how many dudes you knew and went where if that had an imitation
- 5:19of like the ghetto chicks around the neighborhood. I mean, it's a common
- 5:26thing. I'm saying. It's not like Sue was doing something groundbreaking or or
- 5:32you know, like the twist that he put on it versus the twist that
- 5:35Martin put on it. I'm not seeing where you know what I'm saying that
- 5:41they were doing anything like they was like, oh my gosh, Like he
- 5:44just just you know, he just took that verbatim or something. You know,
- 5:47the jokes weren't the same jokes. That's just the imitating the ghetto chick
- 5:50thing. You know. Heated that character so much like the consistent I roll,
- 5:56like I stayed up here what she was talking the look and it was
- 6:00such a more like extravagant look of a ghetto chick rather than just one piece
- 6:06in a wig. Um, that's what I mean. It's like, Okay,
- 6:11I get it. But if he was shipping in there, then I
- 6:15would have been like, all right, and to jump back to the other
- 6:18side of the fence. Going off of what you said, Joe, you're
- 6:23talking about a way bigger, budget, more processed version of it. Could
- 6:28have just said, hey, I'm trying to do this, and then if
- 6:30if he took that character to a TV show, he probably would have flipped
- 6:33it the two exact. And that's the point that I was making was that
- 6:36it was like, for example, if Usher came out right now and dropped
- 6:41it's okay, you know what I'm saying. Usher has million dollars studios,
- 6:45Usher has million dollars videos. Usher, It's Usher. You know what I'm
- 6:48saying. So it's it's gonna be it could be done better, you know
- 6:53what I'm saying. Like, just from that standpoint, so like, but
- 6:56at the end of the day, still the un fully locked potential version of
- 7:01something and you're saying, all right, let's do it on the big stage
- 7:04now, right. That's where it kind of gets tricky with the situation because
- 7:10it's like, Okay, you know this is kind of like a common thing,
- 7:14but for you to enter if it's truly how they presented it. Dak
- 7:17Martin specifically introduced it where he was on the same show with that guy and
- 7:24saw it. If that's the case, then it's kind of undeniable, and
- 7:29who knows if they had some kind of agreement behind the scenes, you know
- 7:31what I mean, Because it's very common in comedy also to just pay people
- 7:34for a joke, just straight up, you know what I mean, Like
- 7:38a lot of comics they'll they'll sell jokes to other communities to be like,
- 7:41yo, I got this premise, I got this bit. You know,
- 7:44they'll tell them it whatever, and then if they like it, they'll be
- 7:46like, okay, how much you know, and they'll actually like buy jokes
- 7:49like up like that. So who knows if they work something out like that.
- 7:54And these dudes is just talking from you know, not even being there
- 7:58or knowing what the situation is, you know what I mean. So that's
- 8:00facts. That's like, well real quick, jo I was gonna say.
- 8:03So my question to both of you is that at the end of the clip,
- 8:07you know, Bill Bellamy said, you know, if you if you
- 8:09want to come, you know, what I'm saying, tell your side.
- 8:13You know what I'm saying. You're open to it. Now. My question
- 8:13to y'all is, if you were Martin Lawrence and you let's say you did
- 8:20it, let's say you didn't rip it off, would you want to tell
- 8:24your side? Well, I was gonna say, it's still alignes of what
- 8:28you said. I just want to make the little, the little shift to
- 8:31music because I think it allignes more with with with your both of y'all's experience,
- 8:37same thing with music, the whole ship with Drake and the ghost riding,
- 8:41and he got to address it finally in a disc record to push the
- 8:46t and there's a lot of like Diddy uh and you know, you know
- 8:52a lot of people Kanye people board reversed to him. They have never wanted
- 8:58to come out and say, yeah, I guess you know they did do
- 9:01that for me. So it's do you want to maintain that credit and authenticity
- 9:07of it or tell the truth? Stop right out of Lester and you because
- 9:13you know, I mean, at the end of the day, it really
- 9:15just comes down to like what type of person you are? You know what
- 9:18I mean? Like he don't owe anybody any kind of explanation, because that
- 9:20thing is dead and over with, you know what I mean, regardless of
- 9:24what he says. Now you know it happened and it's done, you know
- 9:28what I mean. But you know, on the other side of it,
- 9:31if let's say he is coming from a genuine place and he says, hey,
- 9:35you know what, I actually did lift that from him, it would
- 9:39be good if, if you know, he at least extended a hand like
- 9:41something. That wouldn't matter, like what would that do for Martin's legacy?
- 9:46I mean, it won't do nothing from ours legacy, but it might do
- 9:48something for his conscience, you know what I mean. And that's when we
- 9:54get in that was one of his six hundred bits. You think that weighs
- 10:00heavy on his conscience. It might not weigh heavy on his conscience from that
- 10:03point of view, But I'm looking at it from the point of view of
- 10:05yeah, that's just one of your bits. But for somebody that didn't make
- 10:09it to the level that you made it, you know what I mean,
- 10:11that could have been a thing that made their career, you know what I'm
- 10:13saying. And let's be real, that's the thing that made Martin's career.
- 10:16Bro. You know what I'm saying, Like, I'm not saying he wasn't
- 10:18successful before that, but after Martin and the whole big bro. Yes,
- 10:26But at the same time Martin was doing characters in that show period. Yeah,
- 10:30that wasn't the only character like character he created talking. He wrote all
- 10:37those characters exactly, and he passed a lot of them, you know.
- 10:41Yeah, that's what I mean. It's like, all right, he got
- 10:43he got the inspiration for she for like comedy dude back in the day or
- 10:48in the shows. I get that, But I don't think would have made
- 10:52a break any I don't think she name his character would have made a break
- 10:54his career. And I agree, I never I don't think that. I
- 10:58don't think that at all. I mean, at the end of the day,
- 11:00Martin's a legend. Whether he stole every aspect of Shenana, you know
- 11:03what I'm saying, the end of the day, if that dude would have
- 11:07had like if he would have had Jerome and all these characters part of the
- 11:11set, and then all those same characters part of Martin's show, that's different.
- 11:15I put him back more than one I'm already questioning and to say,
- 11:18all right, so how much is this shit? But that one and it
- 11:22and and it was it was close, but it wasn't as good as she.
- 11:26That's all I'm like. I brushed that shit under the rug, which
- 11:28is not good for people to do. But all I'm saying, bro,
- 11:33all I'm saying is that if it is facts, you know what I'm saying,
- 11:35because this this really could all be speculation, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:39But if it is facts, Like, if it really is facts,
- 11:43I just would have hoped that Martin at least paid homage, you know what
- 11:46I'm saying. Like, you know, y'all don't know about this guy.
- 11:48You know what I'm saying that Um Derek, Derek, Derek, Um,
- 11:54you know y'all don't know about this guy, but you know this was where
- 11:56inspiration came from. That would have cleared all that up a story that guy.
- 12:05And like I said, this is all speculation to us, but we
- 12:07just we see it the same way back when Smiles and South Star and we
- 12:13know people who know them, we're getting big in Orlando. They Orlando based
- 12:18rappers, and Gary and his people were rapping. One of Gary's boys is
- 12:22a really good rapper and a really good punchline, but he doesn't promote he's
- 12:26never promoted music online. He's just created a bunch of music and just created
- 12:31it. And he had a line in the freestyle that went pretty viral back
- 12:35then, and you remember BJ Armstrong, Yeah, he said you know my
- 12:39Armstrong like BJ right, first, no one's ever said anything like that,
- 12:43And then Smiles and Styles start wrapped the same ship, and then they dissed
- 12:48Orlando's rappers in that verse, and at the end of the day, it's
- 12:54just us talking about it because there's absolutely nothing they possibly could have done to
- 12:58signed artists who who are on a label and making records and making video music
- 13:05videos, and we're sitting here like, bro, that line was definitely his,
- 13:09heard it and then you dissed him, and it's just like, thinking
- 13:13back then, it's like there's probably nothing that he could have done, especially
- 13:16in comedy because there's so much of it and so many people telling jokes and
- 13:20creating characters, Like, what could he possibly have done at that point?
- 13:22Just tell people like, hey, that was my shit. Yeah. A
- 13:28lot of that stuff is like just in the air, like especially with punchlines.
- 13:31When it comes to being a rapper dog like I never like when I
- 13:35used to rap, I was a real like punchline heavy type rapper, you
- 13:39know what I mean. And I never really paid attention to like that kind
- 13:43of chatter, like even like within the city and stuff, because it was
- 13:46like, Bro, we all taking in the same content. We all in
- 13:50the same kind of genre, rapping in a certain style. It's like,
- 13:54Bro, we're gonna think of the same things, you know what I mean,
- 13:58Like, especially when you're all in the same city, Like you're gonna
- 14:01pull from the same references, You're gonna do the same kind of rhymes and
- 14:05everything like that, because every y'all all think the same stuff is hard,
- 14:09you know what I'm saying. But this was like two thousand and three though,
- 14:13Yeah, but that's I don't think even I don't think there was an
- 14:16air back there back then as it is now. No, No, But
- 14:20I'm just saying just the idea that like whatever Cruise is rapping at the time,
- 14:24like they're just pulling inspiration from everything that's going on regardless, you know
- 14:28what I'm saying. They don't even have to intersect. I see what I'm
- 14:31saying. It's like very common that you're you know, especially as a rapper,
- 14:35like you're gonna sit and think when you're writing in a verse of like
- 14:37different players and how you can plug them into like a punchline or something like
- 14:41that. Yeah, and listening to music now, after listening to for so
- 14:46long and even you see like maybe freestyle battles or freestyles in general, you
- 14:52can guess the next lyric facts like I know exactly where he is going,
- 14:56and you'll see the person like say the same way that they're gonna like,
- 15:00I know exactly where you're going with this bar, and they'll they'll say that
- 15:03last word before they even heard that bar anywhere in life. They know exactly
- 15:07where you're going with it. So it's a lot of angles, a lot
- 15:09of variables, bro, it's just so much. Look at it, the
- 15:13whole Martin things like drake for me, like all right, you you go
- 15:16throke that one track? Okay, yeah, don't And that's kind of my
- 15:22thing where it like when you tie it all together. It's like, I
- 15:26mean, tie it all together. As far as comparing the Martin thing to
- 15:28the music thing, it's like, at the end of the day, it
- 15:31didn't make or break his career. He had a whole bunch of other content
- 15:35that you know what I'm saying, like, propelled him to that next level.
- 15:39So it's like one thing is not his legacy, you know what I'm
- 15:43saying, Like, regardless of what you know, when you're creating so much,
- 15:48bro, your stuff is gonna overlap with other people's stuff, you know
- 15:50what i mean, especially like as as an artist too, like rappers sing
- 15:54or whatever. You know what I'm saying, If you got a lot of
- 15:58content that you're putting out, it's gonna sound like what somebody else has and
- 16:02if they put it out before you, they're gonna think, oh my god,
- 16:04there's no way this. It kind of goes back to the deja vu
- 16:07thing we talked about last week. You know what I'm saying. It's like
- 16:11everybody thinks, like, oh, there's no way this just randomly happened,
- 16:15you know what I'm saying. And it's like, it's not that random one
- 16:19and two, there is a way that this would happen because you know,
- 16:23that's what patterns are. You know what I'm saying, Like, if you're
- 16:26doing certain things certain ways, and you know, the chances of certain things
- 16:30happening increase, and especially if it's something that's on your mind that you're kind
- 16:33of leaning towards, you know what I mean. It's kind of like that
- 16:37same concept of like whenever you think about a car or something like that,
- 16:42like oh, man, I want to buy this car, and you look
- 16:45it up in a certain color, all of a sudden, you start seeing
- 16:47it in that color all around you know what I'm saying, And it's like
- 16:49is it because you looked it up? Or is it because now it's in
- 16:52your brain so when you see it, you identify it instead of it just
- 16:56being a blur of a car driving by. You can't hear you, Joe,
- 17:02your mute in my man, I said, or the FBI agent on
- 17:07your phone and it's turned up on you. Thanks, thanks for paying attention.
- 17:11And that'd be funny too, man, when people be like and I
- 17:15do agree, Like, don't don't get me wrong. I do think that
- 17:18phones be you know, the mic beyond sometimes and they'll be catching people talking.
- 17:21But I don't think it's as often as people think it is, you
- 17:23know what I mean, Like, I don't know, man, because I'll
- 17:26tell you one thing, bro. Literally the other day my fiance it was
- 17:30like, I wanna someone we need a new couch and the you know downstairs,
- 17:34and literally she picked up her phone open Instagram and the first day she
- 17:37saw I was an ask for a couch. That's like immediately yeah. But
- 17:45you know, if you have the hay Siri feature turned down and look at
- 17:48my ships already acting up, the phone's listening in twenty four seven. It
- 17:51literally is constantly picking up every single thing you say. Yeah, so if
- 17:56you say, hey, Siri, right now, your phone activate, somebody
- 17:59just did again, your phone's listening to you twenty four seven. I definitely
- 18:03feel we are coming from try out. I also look at it from like
- 18:07the I don't use it say, it's everything. I don't have this,
- 18:14I don't have a disabled Yeah, mine just popped up. Yeah, so
- 18:18she's listening twenty fo what you said, But a lot of people don't know
- 18:23that when you have voice commands or anything on your legs or your phone,
- 18:27it's listening. Twenty four seven. The microphone is on and is listening all
- 18:33right, I'm done with my ranking. Yeah, and even and even how
- 18:36people be um wondering like damn my phone be dying so fast. It's like
- 18:40if you add those permissions to a lot of apps in your phone, like
- 18:44Joe said, the MIC's always on, you know, it's it's always using
- 18:47the sensors and the camera time. So your battery is just you know,
- 18:52dying because it's really just running hot all day, you know what I'm saying,
- 18:55because your phone is on active mode. Um. I don't know if
- 19:00he want to straight away from that last conversation, but one last thing I
- 19:03wanted to talk about was um, y'all said that Buddy ended his whole career
- 19:07after that. That's what they were talking to, that he stopped doing comedy
- 19:14the way he handled it, or what if he was in that position?
- 19:18Would you just debt everything after that? So if we're if we're talking about
- 19:22it from the premise of believing that he stole a joke from him, then
- 19:26let's say that's the premise I wouldn't stop. I mean it. Lets you
- 19:32know, like, Okay, I got something dope, Like if if somebody
- 19:34took it and made it work on a national level, I know, I'm
- 19:37dope. You know what I'm saying, Like I'll try to flip it,
- 19:40you know what I mean. Of course you'll be pissed, but it's like
- 19:41if it happens and you really have nothing to do like that you can specifically
- 19:47do to get your retribution, your credit or whatever. Like if it's out
- 19:51of your hands, bro, it's out of your hands, like you could
- 19:52dwell on it, or you could just keep trying to push and do something
- 19:56better. Like either way, it happened, and that's it. I think
- 20:00that's the that's the small aspect of it for me that you know, makes
- 20:06me kind of like weird about it because again I agree with everything you said,
- 20:10Joe Legend to the end of the time, like all of that is
- 20:14cool and danny, but if he did steal that and Buddy actually ended his
- 20:19career off of it, then you obviously wasn't extending a hand to Buddy,
- 20:25you know what I'm saying. Like the obviously was like you hit a block
- 20:30in the road and was like you know ft, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:33So like to me, it just tells me that it was like damn,
- 20:34like if you did steal it and you got so much success and you
- 20:37can't like put people on that kind of really helped pay that way for you,
- 20:41and that that kind of, you know, changes my perspective on the
- 20:44situation. But again at the end of the day. Still a legend,
- 20:48so real quick, and I think we could tie to Martin thing. Go
- 20:49ahead, less you want to go now. I was gonna say, but
- 20:52check this out though, Like what if Buddy stopped doing comedy because Martin cashed
- 20:56them out? Well, okay, so that's what I'm saying, Like you
- 21:03know what I'm saying. But I also wanted some crazy stuff Martin's personal history,
- 21:08mental health history. He doesn't seem like he would be the kind of
- 21:14person. I don't know who he is today, but you see, we
- 21:17see what he's got, what he's gone through it in his career and all
- 21:21that crazy shit, extra shit, and it's like, I don't see himself
- 21:25as a type of character to actually look out for other people because he's so
- 21:29busy trying to just make sure he's still good. Yeah. Yeah, if
- 21:32anybody else is interested in this story, and y'all get more information d on
- 21:34the ground to show, let us know what's good, what y'all find,
- 21:37because I don't think he's gonna dig too deep into it, but if there's
- 21:41more insight on it, I think we would like to know. It's interesting.
- 21:45Bro. Like I said that, that's one of the things there's so
- 21:47many angles to it. There's so many chaples. You have to consider everything
- 21:49exactly. And first I'm saying like that the angle of it to me that
- 21:55is the most interesting is like all right there. Like I said with the
- 22:00music thing, like they're all comedians working kind of the same circuits against the
- 22:04same kind of crowds, pulling it from the same influences, you know what
- 22:08I mean, Like them jokes are going to overlap, especially if you're a
- 22:11working comedian working on material over and over and over, and just how many
- 22:15times it's been done in comedy, you know what I'm saying. If it's
- 22:18like you're the first guy ever to imitate a girl as a comedian, then
- 22:23maybe you got something. But it's like you have so many examples of so
- 22:27many comedians before that doing that. You know, yeah, that is real
- 22:34man. Well yeah, man. The comedy thing is always dope, just
- 22:41because comedy is one of those things like skateboarding that we talked about in the
- 22:45past where it's like you can't fake it, like you if you're a comedian,
- 22:49you gotta work and nobody could take away the laughs, you know what
- 22:55I'm saying. Just the same thing with skateboarding, Like if you're good,
- 22:56you're good. Nobody could say. It's not an opinion based thing, you
- 23:00know what I mean. It's like it's either happening or it's not. And
- 23:04that's always super dope. It's like the same thing with wrestling, yo,
- 23:07Like people say certain wrestlers aren't that good. They talk about John Cena being
- 23:11a terrible wrestler, like as far as like technical ability and like the way
- 23:15he has a match, but it's like dog, he was like the top
- 23:19top wrestler that the only one anybody ever knew, Like nobody knew any wrestler
- 23:26since the Rocking Stone Cold except for John Cina. Yeah, John Cena is
- 23:30the only one that people actually know who you're talking about if you mentioned John
- 23:33Cena and Brock but yeah, brock Lessener. Bro A lot of people don't
- 23:38know who brock Lessener is. I didn't I didn't know. I didn't know.
- 23:41He had an alter ego where he had like a ponytail. He was
- 23:45he payed a whole different character. One thing I want to say, now,
- 23:48are we in the era of truth where people who were just they call
- 23:55him underdogs and appreciated and it scores from athletes, musicians, everything. Now
- 24:00people are creating these retrospective compilations that shows like, Yo, these people really
- 24:06were the top of the top of the top of the line kind of entertainers.
- 24:11And that's one thing I learned about John Cena. I didn't know anything
- 24:14about him, and I played WWE and I learned his whole career, and
- 24:18I learned about brock Less, and I was like, wow, how did
- 24:19I not know? None of this shit happened? And then so I randomly
- 24:27watched videos on YouTube and I watched the video on YouTube about when WWF ditched
- 24:34Whole Kogan and Raise Ramon and everybody, and they all went WCW created the
- 24:41nWo and it was Scott Hall and Kevin Nash versus three other dudes. Oh,
- 24:49I think it was Macho Man Ultimate Warrior and missed the perfect right.
- 24:55It was a three way through way and they literally in real life, had
- 24:59no idea who was their third tag team person would be. And it was
- 25:03supposed to be Hulk Hogan, but I would mean Hulk Hogan would have to
- 25:07throw away his entire reputation as like the American Dream and the People's Wrestler,
- 25:14you know, the People's champ, and they said that he had a contract
- 25:18clause that he hit he could personally decide what happened to his character, no
- 25:22matter what events or anybody said. And he literally came out there and that's
- 25:26when he led drop Macho Man and he turned and he became in Tobo and
- 25:32it's like we watched I don't know we I watched that as a kid and
- 25:36thought it yeah, and thought it was just like part of the gimmick.
- 25:40And there was so much behind it, so much behind the decision that Hulk
- 25:44Hogan made to change and go against everything because they knew and that's when they
- 25:48started throwing shit in the ring. And it's crazy. So I'm like,
- 25:51what if I never knew that, you know? And that's so I think
- 25:55we're in the error. We're fighting out ship that we never knew that mattered
- 25:59more or about the person doing it then we gave him credit for And you
- 26:04want to hear the crazy part, Joe tying it back to the Martin thing.
- 26:07The NWOH was ripped off of the Japanese Wrestling Federation that did like a
- 26:15similar thing, like the same kind of style, the same you know.
- 26:22That's one thing. Yeah, and Eric Bischoff kind of got you know,
- 26:26that's where like the idea was planning in his head and he kind of,
- 26:30you know, he switched it up and made it, you know, work
- 26:32over here, you know for the American he was. That's the only reason
- 26:37I'm Eric Bishop mm hmmm. That's wild. That's wild. They took that
- 26:41idea from somebody else too, Yeah, yeah, but it's crazy. Like
- 26:47I said, we watched that and then going back now and knowing that them
- 26:51themselves had no idea and like wrestling is fake, yeah, and they write
- 26:53storylines, but sometimes like the Montreal screw job, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:59Like, and to explain it, like for people that don't even care
- 27:02about wrestling or don't have any knowledge of anything we're talking about, just think
- 27:07about it this way. Holk Hogan was the biggest wrestler like that everybody knows
- 27:11to this day, he's the He's like part of the reason why wrestling even
- 27:18got to the level it did because his character got so known just crossed over
- 27:22like to the point where like rock stars wanted to be like Holk Hogan,
- 27:26you know what I mean. It was crazy. And since he had that
- 27:30position, obviously people was buying his merch he's a good guy. Yeah,
- 27:36that's what People was buying his stuff for their kids, you know what I
- 27:40mean, the toys, everything. And in wrestling, if you turn into
- 27:44a bad guy, you know what I'm saying. If you decide, Okay,
- 27:47I'm gonna be a bad guy wrestler, people stop buying your stuff because
- 27:51you're the bad guy. You're the jerk. You don't want to heal every
- 27:53like, hey, you're an ugly crowd of your town is ugly. Look
- 27:56at you, dirt bags? You know what I mean by that guy shirt.
- 28:00So he had to really think about, like, dang, do I
- 28:03change my character to try to freshen up or do I keep trying to hold
- 28:07on to this like American dream thing that's already fading? You know what I
- 28:11mean? It was super dope like kind of how it happened and everything.
- 28:15Could you compare it to? And that's why I think wrestling across the boundaries
- 28:22more than people know, because even if you're an athlete or musician, you
- 28:26gotta play a part. Are you the good guy and the bad guy?
- 28:29Kevin Durant going to the Warriors, I think that's when he turned. He'll
- 28:33that's when he turned the bad guy. You know, he left what the
- 28:37home team knew him what. Everybody loved him for the guy that he was,
- 28:41and he said, fuck that, I want one thing and I'm going
- 28:45over there to get it. And they know that. And that's why,
- 28:48like I think a lot of athletes are big wrest of the fan because they
- 28:51know they have a character to maintain, you gotta And that's what that was,
- 28:55Scott Halston. One more for the bad guys, you know what I
- 28:57mean? Yeah, that's real, That's definitely real. Yeah, And that
- 29:03was like the time they started like blurring the lines and wrestling where like they
- 29:07were trying to make them. They were letting the bad guys be cool,
- 29:11so people kind of didn't know who they really wanted to root for, you
- 29:14know what I mean, Like people just eventually started ruling for the bad guys
- 29:17because they were cooler. You know. Yeah, ye know, nWo Bro,
- 29:22I ain't gonna everybody loves nWo bro Bro. When they spray painted the
- 29:25bell, when they spray painted people they beat up like yeah, yeah,
- 29:30I was like I had an NBO shirt dog. And then when they got
- 29:33conan dog, Oh my gosh, bro, Because I'm Puerto Rican, bro,
- 29:37like he he was Mexican and he's not even Mexican, like for real,
- 29:41you know what I'm saying. I think he's Cuban and something else like
- 29:45mixed, but he's not even Mexican. Like he was just Mexican, like
- 29:48because he started wrestling in Mexico. When then when he came to the United
- 29:52States from Mexico, like it just kind of stuck with him that he was
- 29:56from Mexico, you know what I mean. And he just playing like Mexican
- 30:00thug in the nWo and just me being like a Puerto Rican kid and seeing
- 30:04out oh yeah yeah, you know, yeah yeah, b yeah is hard.
- 30:18Yeah, that's crazy now. And it's like this, like I said,
- 30:23like not a lot of people are wrestling fans. They call it fake,
- 30:26but so many people have made um a name for the like Yoka Zuna
- 30:30being part of the Rocks family and he paid the Japanese freaking sumo wrestler,
- 30:34you know, and nobody knows that still to this day that like his name
- 30:37was Yoka Zuna. Yokazuna is the name of like a Japanese martial arts like
- 30:42sumo wrestler. It's not even a person's name, and you see what these
- 30:45people did just for the fans. They didn't do that shit for themselves.
- 30:49I'm in a double check, but I think Yoka Zuna is like the strongest
- 30:53sumo wrestler, Like that's what they call him. Oh yeah, I knew
- 30:57something like with Japanese uh athleticism something. That's what I'm going with. Oh
- 31:07that's what the yokazuna is a grand champion. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 31:11So they just basically named him exactly what he was, a sumo wrestler that
- 31:15was supposed to be, like a great supermo wrestler. And that's what I
- 31:19said, just running back real quick. We're in the era where we're finding
- 31:23out the truth about a lot of stuff we didn't really know how deep it
- 31:26was. And I appreciate that. Some of it's not good like Mike,
- 31:30like Martin Lawrence stole jokes. Some of it is good, like seeing whole
- 31:36give up his whole allegedly give up his whole entire persona and his career and
- 31:41everything he molded his whole entire life around to know what the fans would absolutely
- 31:47love, and him turning into bo and it's just like that selflessness to me,
- 31:52Yeah, that that that's just all right. I'm going to the point
- 31:55where I'm not doing it for me anymore. I'm doing it for the people
- 31:57who still fuck with me, and it's dope. It's up to see that
- 32:01in athleticism and athletes, in artistry and every everywhere you're at. Man,
- 32:07and I shared something on Facebook recently like the best thing you could do if
- 32:13you if you're really smart, you have knowledge to share with people and getting
- 32:15and grow their knowledge too. I mean, I think that's we're in an
- 32:20era there. It's a little late, and I think it's only popular because
- 32:23of social media, but we in the era where people are sharing a lot
- 32:27more knowledge of how they got where they're at. Yeah, it's definitely like
- 32:32more behind the curtains, you know, getting a peak of the process.
- 32:37You know, a lot of old behind the scenes footage coming out and it's
- 32:40super dope to me, you know what I mean. I'm always for that
- 32:44kind of stuff, just seeing like what the real like moments in those epic
- 32:51situations were, you know what I mean. Yeah, I always appreciate that,
- 32:54like seeing like Okay, how did you actually execute that? You know?
- 33:00That's why the Rock Show was so hard. Man, I can't believe
- 33:06I was waiting for this new season, like you know what I mean,
- 33:09I thought, Yeah, I'm back for sure. Bro They checked like every
- 33:13week at this new episode. I was trying. You know what I think
- 33:16it is, dog. I think they just made it too high budget,
- 33:21you know what I mean, Like there's mad production value and show and that
- 33:24show, you know what I mean, Like if they would have maybe like
- 33:29yeah, they playing the license to portray all those characters. They gotta pay
- 33:31for the license. They're paying WW for that unless the Rocks getting broke off
- 33:36for free, which I doubt because yeah, but I mean, you never
- 33:40know, because the Rock has used to point in his career where a show
- 33:43like that would just bring more attention to w W. Like I ain't gonna
- 33:45lie Brod. Watching Young Rock got me back interested in wrestling again, you
- 33:50know what I'm saying. So he might have a good, a nice little
- 33:52situation with it. But like I'm even talking about like the fact that they
- 33:55based the show like the actual show itself is based in the future, you
- 34:00know what I mean, Yeah, exactly, mad futuristic and they got like
- 34:05CGI and all this unnecessary stuff that who knows if this the show is that
- 34:09much cheaper to do if they would a green litter m you know what I
- 34:14mean cheaper because that'd be happening a lot. Like like you come out the
- 34:17bat with like this crazy budget and they're like expecting this like grand slam of
- 34:22a show from you, and it's like you can't dictate that, Like you
- 34:25can't just say, oh, I got the formula to make a hit show,
- 34:29you know, and you know all those writer strikes and stuff going on
- 34:31in that industry right now, So it's it's it's a lot going on in
- 34:35that industry. So you know a lot of stuff supposedly is getting canceled because
- 34:38of that too, So who knows. You know, January she was on
- 34:43the pod um you know, probably like ten episodes, ten fifteen episodes ago.
- 34:46She's works in the film industry, and you know that that's what she's
- 34:50dealing with from you know, from that standpoint of like you know, kind
- 34:52of waiting for it to play out. You know what I'm saying, that's
- 34:55your career, you know what I'm saying. So it's kind of crazy.
- 34:59Do you think there was any Hayte involved? There's Um, there's two wrestlers,
- 35:07um that are part of the Roman Rings, the bloodline where they're all
- 35:10Samoan wrestlers and they're ussos Uso brothers. They're like tag team champions. Yeah
- 35:15yeah, yeah yeah. And they had interview and they had to break down
- 35:21their whole entire family tree and they started to appear my via to Rocky Johnson
- 35:27and they named literally every single person except the Rock. And what do you
- 35:30do that? You go to the comments section, They're like what you're doing?
- 35:35Like why would how do you not name the Rock right in your whole
- 35:39blood And they named thirty seven people except the Rock and they and they like,
- 35:45oh who else? Who else are we missing? And they just kept
- 35:47naming. I don't know if it was a bit, but do you think
- 35:53there's Hay I don't know. I wouldn't think that deep dog, because nowadays,
- 35:58man, everything is so reaction basic with social media that that could have
- 36:00been done on purpose. You know. They were kind of angling to do
- 36:06a main event with The Rock at WrestleMania, so they were trying to kind
- 36:09of like add fuel to that fire to get the Rock to commit to do
- 36:14it, you know what I mean, Like they were they were throwing them
- 36:16little things out there because they're trying to promote you know, they're trying to
- 36:20lock the Rock in to promote that fight at WrestleMania, you know, roll
- 36:22their reins versus the Rock, you know what I mean, Like for the
- 36:25head of the Dynasty, you know what I mean, Like they're trying to
- 36:31make it happen. Doug. Yeah, it's a lot more, man,
- 36:37And like we were talking about, you know, y'all got some things coming
- 36:40up, and we just talk about the background of things. There's a lot
- 36:44more things that go onto the background than will ever know about unless a special
- 36:47gets released twenty years from now and tells us, Like, I know,
- 36:52projects y'all worked on together, tracks y'all worked on together that I loved and
- 36:55I didn't love, and then I hear the story six years later about how
- 37:00it all went down. It's just crazy. Just the truth behind everything changes
- 37:04perspective of how you look at it for sure. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 37:07facts, man, Um. But yeah, like you said, Man,
- 37:10a lot of dope, dope things coming up. I'm pretty sure by the
- 37:15next episode we'll have like a few stories from some performances, just dope stuff
- 37:21happening with the music right now, and uh, you know, I think
- 37:24I think next week will be a nice little check in and everybody, and
- 37:29I'll be thirty nine years old next week. Let's go. So you already
- 37:34know it's about out here. Next week, dog, I'm about to be
- 37:39drunk status drunk. If you want to. We could do it Wenesday,
- 37:45we could do it all my birthday to work. Let's get it. Let's
- 37:46get it Wednesday. Um my son got basketball. Yeah, h yo,
- 37:53shout out to my daughter. Man, she just had her first volleyball game,
- 37:58and she went hammer time like she looked like she had already played in
- 38:00a volleyball league a couple of times, like yeah, her poise was crazy,
- 38:05like she was saying it like yo, I was mad and pressed though
- 38:08I was super impressed. That's dope, bro, that's super dope. Love
- 38:13to see it, yeah, man, But yeah, anything y'all want to
- 38:16lead the folks with ah? Man, you know you already mentioned it.
- 38:21But I got a performance this Sunday. Lester got a performance this Sunday.
- 38:25We're gonna recap on that next week. Man, too excited about this weekend?
- 38:32Well yeah, you got anything, Joe, Nah, But I think
- 38:36it's I think we should do, like a little compilation video of all our
- 38:39best clips. Someone's got to go through them. I don't know who's gonna
- 38:42do it, so i'd be thinking of ideas I don't want to do,
- 38:45but stay better.
