- 1:57Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered.
- 2:02Speaker 2: We are coming to you live from the beautiful country
- 2:05Speaker 2: of Ireland. We are in Cary County, staying at Hogshead,
- 2:09Speaker 2: playing some golf on a beautiful trip.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Rossi, how are we feeling? Feeling amazing. feeling amazing my
- 2:18Speaker 1: golf game is strong uh we've played pretty even golf
- 2:22Speaker 1: and uh let's talk a little baseball i've been missing
- 2:24Speaker 1: some baseball talk so let's let's get into it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: We uh i gotta give a shout out to hogshead
- 2:29Speaker 2: this property here man is one of the nicest properties
- 2:33Speaker 2: i've ever stayed at uh shout out to cobble court
- 2:36Speaker 2: interiors not an ad wish it was but rob rizzo
- 2:41Speaker 2: not related but he designed this whole place the interior
- 2:44Speaker 2: design everything is top notch i mean the golf course
- 2:49Speaker 2: the the the bar area the restaurants the food i
- 2:53Speaker 2: am so impressed i i don't ever want to leave
- 2:55Speaker 2: here rossi.
- 2:56Speaker 1: It's been amazing man we played old head day one
- 2:59Speaker 1: it went on a helicopter helicopter helicopter to this place
- 3:04Speaker 1: it was sick.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Right so and i beat your ass all.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Three days too Okay, we can get into that. Why
- 3:11Speaker 1: don't we debate that real quick, okay? What's your golf index?
- 3:18Speaker 1: I'm like an 8, 8.4 something. And I'm a 9.8.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So Rossi, the first day. Rossi's a sandbagging 8.4.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He's better than that. Listen to the excuses, people. They're coming.
- 3:32Speaker 1: He wanted four strokes, four. The first day he gave me,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I haven't played. I have a one-year-old, okay?
- 3:38Speaker 2: So another day, the first day, then he wanted to
- 3:43Speaker 2: start with two strokes and he came out firing. I
- 3:45Speaker 2: went 49 on the front the first day, Rossi.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Okay. That's how bad I was. And that's my fault. Apparently.
- 3:52Speaker 2: No, but we have to handicap it appropriately.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So what'd you do on the back? What'd you do
- 3:56Speaker 1: on the back, Anthony? A 40. I came around. Okay.
- 3:59Speaker 2: The number was four. So he gave me four strokes
- 4:01Speaker 2: the first day. Second day, he gave me three strokes.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And I beat him by four strokes. People.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Second day, three strokes. I beat him by one stroke.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I beat you by two strokes, which means you won
- 4:16Speaker 1: because you got three strokes. I think it should be
- 4:19Speaker 1: two strokes all along, so go ahead.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yesterday, I beat you straight up, and now for the
- 4:24Speaker 2: next two or three rounds we play, we'll be two strokes.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Yesterday, we played in Hurricane Katrina. I'm back. We played
- 4:31Speaker 1: in Hurricane Katrina. We need to send out the video.
- 4:34Speaker 1: You couldn't adapt. You couldn't adapt your swing. Okay. Okay.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Let's talk some baseball.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Coming live from Hogshead here in Ireland. Beautiful, beautiful country.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Beautiful people. Been blown away by the food, the logos,
- 4:52Speaker 2: the hog.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Incredible. Can't say enough about it.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Anyways, we had some breaking news over our night, Rossi.
- 5:01Speaker 1: We had.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Aaron Judge announcing in the Yankees, announcing that he's returning
- 5:06Speaker 2: to the Yankees lineup after missing, man, over three months
- 5:11Speaker 2: of baseball.
- 5:12Speaker 1: What a boost.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I know we have a video that they tease of
- 5:15Speaker 2: him coming back. What a boost of energy this is
- 5:18Speaker 2: going to be.
- 5:18Speaker 1: 99, baby. That gives me chills, Rossi. I tell you what,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I've been waiting for... I'm so interested to see how
- 5:49Speaker 1: he plays these last... Well, he's got 17, 18 games left.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I think the thing in my mind when we've talked...
- 5:57Speaker 1: about a bunch of these teams is when judge comes back,
- 6:01Speaker 1: we know how good the Yankees pitching is. We know about,
- 6:03Speaker 1: you know, the lineup, the young guys, how they were
- 6:06Speaker 1: holding it down. But if he comes back and is
- 6:08Speaker 1: the version of Aaron judge that we all know so well,
- 6:11Speaker 1: the MVP talent, I think they're the best team in
- 6:15Speaker 1: major league baseball with what they've got now that how
- 6:19Speaker 1: fast can he get to gain speed and locked in?
- 6:23Speaker 1: That's the key. You know, that's going to be the
- 6:25Speaker 1: key for him, but, with the traject machines they have underneath,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and I'm sure he's been hitting on it and getting
- 6:30Speaker 1: his timing down. Bro, he took, they were out on
- 6:35Speaker 1: the West Coast. They get back.
- 6:37Speaker 2: He took live batting practice yesterday. One time they had
- 6:42Speaker 2: some guys come up from the minors, throw him live
- 6:44Speaker 2: BP at Yankee Stadium, and he goes, I'm good. So
- 6:47Speaker 2: the work he's been doing behind the scenes is no
- 6:50Speaker 2: one will ever understand how much work he's in off
- 6:52Speaker 2: the traject and the timing and all that. But this is,
- 6:55Speaker 2: I mean, bro, this is really important, like you said,
- 6:59Speaker 2: to this line. We're going to get a version of
- 7:01Speaker 2: Aaron Judge, whether it's his MVP version or maybe a
- 7:04Speaker 2: slightly less version. That's still better than 99. See what
- 7:09Speaker 2: I did? 99% of the league. See what I did there?
- 7:12Speaker 1: 99. He gets so clever. Yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I mean, he lengthens out the lineup. He brings energy.
- 7:18Speaker 1: He's the captain. He's the captain.
- 7:20Speaker 2: He's going to make that lineup instantly better just by
- 7:23Speaker 2: standing in the box and The energy, the aura, everything
- 7:26Speaker 2: that he brings to that lineup, it's a huge boost
- 7:29Speaker 2: for the Yankees. Hopefully he can get rolling quickly and
- 7:34Speaker 2: get some confidence quickly, get a base hit out of
- 7:36Speaker 2: the way, walk out of the way, you know, all
- 7:39Speaker 2: the first out of the way, almost like a spring
- 7:40Speaker 2: training ramp up. And we'll see what their schedule looks like.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'd imagine he'd play, play off, play, play.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You know, he could DH. So really excited for that.
- 7:51Speaker 1: All right, guys, shout out Poly Market, a new sponsor.
- 7:55Speaker 1: We've got our polymarket prediction of this segment, and I'm
- 7:59Speaker 1: going to focus on the AL. Who's going to win
- 8:02Speaker 1: the AL? Right now, the Yankees and Rays sit at 25%,
- 8:05Speaker 1: the Red Sox at 15%, and the White Sox at 10%.
- 8:11Speaker 1: For me, if Judge coming back is where I'm going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to put my money, I think the Yankees are going
- 8:19Speaker 1: to take off with their pitching. Obviously, it's really deep.
- 8:23Speaker 1: and the big judge coming back to Yankee Stadium and
- 8:26Speaker 1: making this playoff push. It's like a shot in the
- 8:29Speaker 1: arm for the Yankees right now. So $ 100 trade, excuse me,
- 8:33Speaker 1: wins $ 297 right now on Polymarket. Pretty good odds for
- 8:38Speaker 1: the Yankees to win the AL. So Polymarket's a great
- 8:42Speaker 1: alternative to sports books and predicting markets have taken over
- 8:46Speaker 1: the sports industry. Even LeBron James is on board. So
- 8:50Speaker 1: Get on board, start making some trades, and they'll be
- 8:53Speaker 1: available throughout the postseason. $ 100 to win 297. Let's go. Yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 1: really good for baseball, too. Getting this close to the postseason,
- 9:02Speaker 1: really good for baseball, the Yankees, the playoffs. You mentioned
- 9:05Speaker 1: West Coast. We've got to talk about PCA, as we
- 9:10Speaker 1: do every week, but Shohei Otani announces he will not
- 9:14Speaker 1: come back and pitch. Do you think that locks down
- 9:18Speaker 1: the MVP for PCA at this point?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think PCA has it locked down for sure.
- 9:26Speaker 2: That's a tough blow for the Dodgers.
- 9:28Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's their guy that they're relying on. He can give
- 9:31Speaker 2: them innings in the postseason, whether it be in the
- 9:34Speaker 2: bullpen or not. So, I mean, that's a really tough blow.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I mean, think about two ends of the spectrum here.
- 9:43Speaker 2: You have Aaron Judge coming back, all the momentum. And
- 9:46Speaker 2: the Dodgers seem like they're in a tailspin, but they
- 9:49Speaker 2: are the Los Angeles Dodgers. Freddie Freeman said it best.
- 9:52Speaker 2: We're back-to-back champs. All good teams go through ruts. uh
- 9:56Speaker 2: they have a veteran group so um but yeah that's
- 10:00Speaker 2: that stinks for the game you know you want otani
- 10:03Speaker 2: pitching i.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Think the question is does getting that out of the
- 10:09Speaker 1: way i'm done with pitching does that help his offense
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know i'm sure part of grinding through the knee
- 10:15Speaker 1: injury has affected his offense for sure, but maybe a
- 10:18Speaker 1: little bit of the freedom just to focus on hitting
- 10:21Speaker 1: and not kind of work in two sides of a craft.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Maybe a little bit freeing mentally for him because I
- 10:27Speaker 1: think the Dodgers have enough pitching. I think they're pretty
- 10:30Speaker 1: deep if everybody comes back. But I'm anxious to see
- 10:35Speaker 1: if that helps his offensive numbers a little bit and
- 10:38Speaker 1: get back to the guy, the MVP candidate. He's been
- 10:42Speaker 1: in a rut.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Right, so that's a scary part, because he's Shohei Otani,
- 10:47Speaker 2: so he's going to get out of it, and usually
- 10:49Speaker 2: when the superstar players go into a big rut, they
- 10:51Speaker 2: come out guns blazing, right, so he's done this, though,
- 10:56Speaker 2: a few times, he had Tommy John surgery, had another
- 10:59Speaker 2: elbow surgery, and throughout the season, he's always had to
- 11:02Speaker 2: worry about pitching, maybe not the pressure of throwing in games,
- 11:06Speaker 2: but I feel like this is all he knows, right,
- 11:10Speaker 2: is pitching and hitting, so Hopefully his knee isn't as
- 11:15Speaker 2: bad as everyone thinks, but if he's not pitching, you
- 11:18Speaker 2: have to think it's pretty bad.
- 11:19Speaker 1: So who knows?
- 11:21Speaker 2: It'll be a good story to watch over the next
- 11:24Speaker 2: three weeks, this final stretch here.
- 11:26Speaker 1: What's good news? Good news for Pete Crow Armstrong. That
- 11:31Speaker 1: sure is.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That pretty much locks up the MVP for, would be,
- 11:37Speaker 2: if I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, first
- 11:39Speaker 2: MVP since our teammate Chris Bryant, good friend, dear friend,
- 11:43Speaker 2: Friend of the program. Big friend of the program. But, bro,
- 11:48Speaker 2: Statham is crazy. Only the second left-handed hitter ever in
- 11:54Speaker 2: the history of the Chicago Cubs to hit.
- 11:57Speaker 1: 40-plus home runs.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That is insane to me. I don't think anyone understands
- 12:03Speaker 2: at home how hard it is to hit at Wrigley
- 12:06Speaker 2: Field as a left-handed hitter. The proof is in the pudding.
- 12:08Speaker 2: There's only been one other player to do it. He's
- 12:11Speaker 2: in the Hall of Fame, sweet-swinging Billy Williams. It's always
- 12:14Speaker 2: my goal. Couldn't do it. Every left-hander always wanted to
- 12:17Speaker 2: hit 40. Schwarber came close one year. PCA did it.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Arguably having the best left-handed hitting season of all time, really.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I mean, bro, he's going to be in the 40-40 club.
- 12:31Speaker 2: He had another home run yesterday. His 41 home runs,
- 12:35Speaker 2: 35 stolen bases. So, I mean, the names in this club, Rossi.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Barry Bonds.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco, Alfonso Soriano, Ronald Acuna Jr., Shohei Otani.
- 12:51Speaker 1: That's it. That's the list. I played with a guy,
- 12:55Speaker 1: Brandon Phillips, shout out DatDudeBP in Cincinnati when he went,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think he went 30-30 and how impressive that was
- 13:05Speaker 1: watching him do that. And Pete's knocking on the door
- 13:08Speaker 1: of 40-40. It's so, we got... We got to watch
- 13:12Speaker 1: them play last night, and he went deep again for
- 13:16Speaker 1: 41 against the Brewers last night. They came up a
- 13:19Speaker 1: little bit short, but the Cubbies bullpen let them down again.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But Pete is rolling, man. I'm so excited to see
- 13:30Speaker 1: this team in the postseason. And him, you know, he's
- 13:34Speaker 1: had so many moments already during the season and, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: probably to me the most exciting player in the game.
- 13:42Speaker 1: but I want to see him in the postseason, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: he shines so bright when the lights turn on.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Well, hopefully, too, for him. I know you've got to
- 13:50Speaker 2: think on these tight runs, right? It's hard to balance.
- 13:56Speaker 2: He's trying to make the playoffs, and he's trying to
- 13:59Speaker 2: win the MVP, right? So you're balancing the personal with
- 14:02Speaker 2: the team, which you're not doing it for yourself, but
- 14:05Speaker 2: when you keep getting asked, you keep hearing the real chants, PCA, MVP, right?
- 14:12Speaker 2: it's not easy to deal with. So hopefully with Shohei
- 14:15Speaker 2: on the shelf pitching, it kind of frees him up.
- 14:17Speaker 2: You know, he can just go out and play and
- 14:19Speaker 2: not have to put more pressure on himself. I would
- 14:21Speaker 2: say it doesn't seem like he's putting pressure on himself,
- 14:23Speaker 2: but we were talking about this last night about the Cubbies, Rossi,
- 14:29Speaker 2: at what point they lost again to the Brewers.
- 14:32Speaker 1: At what point.
- 14:34Speaker 2: We were talking about, at what point in the clubhouse
- 14:36Speaker 2: do you start shifting to the wild card is good enough?
- 14:40Speaker 1: Right? And you yell, what do you mean by that? Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And I think, I think we were talking about just
- 14:48Speaker 1: the excitement of the post season and how to get in.
- 14:51Speaker 1: And you were saying, you know, in 15, it was
- 14:55Speaker 1: such a boost for us to be the second wildcard team.
- 14:58Speaker 1: We finished third. We finished third.
- 14:59Speaker 2: We thought we were the best team in the world.
- 15:01Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And we had real momentum
- 15:04Speaker 1: in September, August and September is when we started playing well.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So I'm a firm believer, and I know that you are,
- 15:09Speaker 1: just that the teams that get that momentum going into
- 15:12Speaker 1: the postseason is critical to just kind of roll into
- 15:17Speaker 1: that and have the offense hitting on all cylinders, the
- 15:20Speaker 1: pitching lined up and feeling good. Bro, it's a beatdown
- 15:24Speaker 1: right now. You know what I mean?
- 15:25Speaker 2: They lost three of four to the Brewers at home.
- 15:28Speaker 2: They lost another game. They go on the road to Miami.
- 15:30Speaker 2: They win two of three. Then they lose the first
- 15:33Speaker 2: game to the Brewers again.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It's like the The Brewers, I mean, Pat Murphy, what
- 15:40Speaker 1: he's done.
- 15:40Speaker 2: That organization, Pat Murphy is playing chess on all of
- 15:45Speaker 2: you Cubs fans, all of us. So can you just
- 15:48Speaker 2: stop giving the attention, the small town, look at our guys.
- 15:53Speaker 1: No one knows who we are.
- 15:54Speaker 2: They're about to win the division for the fourth straight
- 15:56Speaker 2: year in a row.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they're loaded. They're loaded. He's a genius. He's a genius.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He plays the card of the small underdog team. You know,
- 16:07Speaker 1: I don't know if... He's not necessarily wrong. I respect
- 16:10Speaker 1: the hell out of Pat Murphy. I think he's a
- 16:12Speaker 1: great manager, a great human being. But I love when
- 16:15Speaker 1: he just gets on his... Yeah, no one knows who
- 16:17Speaker 1: we are. It just... You see it eat alive, fans.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That's funny. Hey, I don't want to skip this because
- 16:25Speaker 1: we were talking about that wildcard push. The Cubbies are
- 16:29Speaker 1: a half a game back of the Phillies. You don't
- 16:33Speaker 1: want to go into Philadelphia if you're a Cubs fan.
- 16:36Speaker 1: and try to win at the bank.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. The bank's electric. It is, but
- 16:43Speaker 2: making the playoffs is electric.
- 16:45Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 16:46Speaker 2: So it's like there has to be a way if
- 16:47Speaker 2: they don't get that home field to appreciate that they
- 16:52Speaker 2: are in the playoffs. Last year they appreciated they were
- 16:56Speaker 2: in the playoffs.
- 16:56Speaker 1: They played with that passion. This year will it be
- 16:58Speaker 1: a little bit of.
- 16:59Speaker 2: A disappointment if they don't get home field, right? It
- 17:03Speaker 2: doesn't look like they can catch the Brewers with 17
- 17:05Speaker 2: or 18 games left.
- 17:08Speaker 1: We got to call a spade a spade.
- 17:09Speaker 2: But if, God forbid, they don't get to that first
- 17:12Speaker 2: wildcard seed, I feel like that team will be so
- 17:14Speaker 2: deflated and it's going to be on the players to really,
- 17:17Speaker 2: you know, rally and be excited. Whether you get the
- 17:19Speaker 2: first card, the second card, or shit, if you fall
- 17:22Speaker 2: down to the third seed, who cares?
- 17:23Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 17:24Speaker 2: You're in the playoffs. Anything can happen. You have really
- 17:28Speaker 2: good starting pitching. The bullpen will get hot, hopefully. That's
- 17:33Speaker 2: offense in the league. That's defense in the league. There's
- 17:36Speaker 2: a lot of positives if you're.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Boyd pitched good last night. Boyd pitched good. Goss has
- 17:41Speaker 1: been throwing the ball well. Clay Holmes. They've got to
- 17:46Speaker 1: get if Palencia gets back and his feet under him
- 17:50Speaker 1: and get back to really letting it eat. He looks
- 17:53Speaker 1: light to me. He looks a little bit leaner coming
- 17:56Speaker 1: off the IL and I don't know if that's a
- 17:58Speaker 1: little bit of something they were working on or not,
- 18:00Speaker 1: but ball's just not coming out right now like he's
- 18:03Speaker 1: used to. He can use his last. Just like Judge,
- 18:05Speaker 1: get the momentum going. If they get the bullpen locked in,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I think this team can win the World Series. I'll
- 18:10Speaker 1: go on record saying that. But the bullpen's got to
- 18:12Speaker 1: start pitching better because they've got the starters now. They've
- 18:15Speaker 1: got three starters that are pitching really good and figuring
- 18:19Speaker 1: out that bullpen. Pitching and defense, man. Pitching and defense.
- 18:22Speaker 2: If they can score some runs early, too, they have
- 18:24Speaker 2: an elite offense, one of the best in the league,
- 18:26Speaker 2: if not the best in the league. You put pressure
- 18:29Speaker 2: on these teams, especially in a three-game series and the
- 18:31Speaker 2: five-game series, and they believe that they're built for seven-game series,
- 18:35Speaker 2: which I think they are as well. They grind. They're
- 18:39Speaker 2: a good team. They are a really good team.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Guys, we were on the number one team in the world,

- 20:30Speaker 1: Thank you, SeatGeek. SeatGeek. Let's go to a positive note now, Rossy. Okay.
- 20:37Speaker 1: All right. I like positive. Positive train. former teammate who
- 20:42Speaker 1: helped us win the 2016 World Series, Aroldis Chapman, he
- 20:47Speaker 1: was the ninth closer to reach 400 saves, Rossi. Can
- 20:51Speaker 1: you believe?
- 20:52Speaker 2: It seems like Chap, he's been in the league for
- 20:54Speaker 2: 25 years.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Well, it feels like he's still in the same shape,
- 20:58Speaker 1: throwing 100, right? Like you see him, he's still a specimen,
- 21:01Speaker 1: gigantic human, just a chiseled Cuban, right? that we got
- 21:07Speaker 1: to play with. Two-time World Series champion. Two-time. Coming over.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Four of the nine closers that you were talking about, Mariano,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Trevor Hoffman, Lee Smith, Billy Wagner, are all in the
- 21:20Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. And the other three, they're still active.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Kenley Jansen, Kimbrel, and Chappie. I mean, we're talking about,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I mean, these guys are knocking on the door of
- 21:32Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame, and there's no doubt. that I
- 21:35Speaker 1: think those guys will get in with their resumes. Pretty
- 21:38Speaker 1: impressive list there that he's on and a part of.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Not only do you have to be dominant and the
- 21:45Speaker 1: strikeouts numbers are crazy, but the longevity in a closer
- 21:51Speaker 1: role in a bullpen is really hard to get.
- 21:53Speaker 2: The longevity for him, I mean, bro, there's videos of
- 21:55Speaker 2: him online.
- 21:55Speaker 1: His arms are yoked. He's yoked. He's staring guys down
- 21:59Speaker 1: in the shower. You know what I mean? He's intimidating.
- 22:02Speaker 1: He's staring guys.
- 22:04Speaker 3: You know what that's like you know what that's like
- 22:08Speaker 3: he in 2017 we played the yankees i was with
- 22:10Speaker 3: the cubs and um just the year after we win
- 22:14Speaker 3: the world series and we were playing.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Like a 16 or 17 in a game versus the
- 22:17Speaker 2: yankees i was over three or four going into my
- 22:20Speaker 2: last at bat and i'm facing chappy he drills me
- 22:23Speaker 2: in my back forearm with 98 and it's freezing in
- 22:27Speaker 2: april uh i stay in the game Between innings, I
- 22:31Speaker 2: go and get an x-ray. I'm like, oh, fuck, my
- 22:33Speaker 2: arm's broken.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Like, I'm done.
- 22:36Speaker 2: This year's done. I'm already having all these bad thoughts.
- 22:40Speaker 2: X-ray comes back negative. I stay in the game, right?
- 22:44Speaker 2: And then I hit a double.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, fuck yeah. That's why you always
- 22:46Speaker 1: stay in the game.
- 22:47Speaker 2: But that hit by pitch by Chappie. He's just so intimidating.
- 22:51Speaker 2: He throws 100 miles an hour for the last 10-plus years,
- 22:56Speaker 2: and he's still doing it, and he's still adapting. That's
- 22:59Speaker 2: the most impressive spot. impressive the most impressive.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Part thing to me yeah is that he's still adapting
- 23:06Speaker 1: to the league and he's he's timeless slider it used
- 23:09Speaker 1: to be all heaters the slider is real the splitty
- 23:12Speaker 1: is real like he's he's become a pitcher later in
- 23:15Speaker 1: his career not just a thrower and a good bullpen.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Man my first time you know how nice is that
- 23:22Speaker 2: i don't.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Know shout out garrett whitlock wbc he was freaking nasty
- 23:26Speaker 1: i feel like they've got two closers at the back
- 23:28Speaker 1: end for the socks like yeah well i mean here's
- 23:34Speaker 1: my here's my chappy story we got over to us
- 23:37Speaker 1: i've gotten the game late and i was like all
- 23:39Speaker 1: right like like joe double switched uh pinch hit for
- 23:44Speaker 1: miggy or something and i went in the game i
- 23:46Speaker 1: was like all right first time doing this i'm such
- 23:48Speaker 1: a bad judge of miles per hour uh catching like
- 23:51Speaker 1: they all seem the same and he throws me the
- 23:53Speaker 1: first one like Middle end, boom, got it. Throw it back.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, that was pretty firm. Boom. Another one,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this is no big deal. He
- 24:02Speaker 1: threw the next one. A lefty on this side ran
- 24:06Speaker 1: up and away from it. You know how most lefties
- 24:09Speaker 1: got that tail or sink or run? Yeah. His, like, climbed.
- 24:14Speaker 1: It was like the ball was coming, and the ball,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I went by as if I– My glove went out.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It was just by me. Like, nothing.
- 24:22Speaker 2: It's like Henry Rowan Gardner throwing you a fastball.
- 24:26Speaker 1: It was cheese, bro. It was cheese. It was absolute cheese.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I didn't have time to get my glove up, and
- 24:32Speaker 1: it hit the backstop at 100. And I'm like, oh,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I better dial my senses up a little bit. It
- 24:39Speaker 1: was cheese.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Congrats to Chappie on 400 career saves. Hopefully, he got
- 24:43Speaker 2: another 100 in the bag. It seems like he's not
- 24:47Speaker 2: stopping any time soon.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Now let's get to our sponsored segment, Corona, Playa of
- 24:54Speaker 1: the Week. Playa of the Week. Play up.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Boy, Jesus Lizardo, Stoneman Douglas, alumni, nine innings, CG shutout, Rossi,
- 25:05Speaker 2: two hits, 12Ks, first career shutout.
- 25:10Speaker 1: For him.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I mean, bro, the Phillies, man, three-headed monster, bro. They're
- 25:15Speaker 2: going to be tough. I'm scared. I am nervous. The
- 25:20Speaker 2: Cubs are really good, but if they don't get that
- 25:23Speaker 2: one seed, the Phillies, man, I mean, bro, not CG
- 25:26Speaker 2: shutout versus the Braves too. And kind of that controversial
- 25:29Speaker 2: series where Acuna hits the home runs and he's running
- 25:32Speaker 2: around the bases and they're kind of chirping back and
- 25:35Speaker 2: forth a little bit to the media.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I mean, what does that mean? He did it against
- 25:40Speaker 1: the Atlanta Braves who are obviously like having a great
- 25:44Speaker 1: season and a really good offense. But these guys, that
- 25:48Speaker 1: was dominant.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Bro, he, in August, 34 innings pitched, won three ERA,
- 25:57Speaker 2: 46 punch outs. I remember going there before they let
- 26:02Speaker 2: go of Rob Thompson. And Jesus got off to a
- 26:05Speaker 2: slow start. And I just seen him. I was just
- 26:07Speaker 2: talking to him a little bit.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, bro, you're good. Like, he's nasty. He's
- 26:10Speaker 1: a good kid. He works hard.
- 26:12Speaker 2: He does all the right things, it seems like. I
- 26:14Speaker 2: didn't ever play with him, but just everything I've heard.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Since June 10th, he's had the lowest ERA and the
- 26:19Speaker 2: most strikeouts in baseball. Playing at Citizens Bank Park.
- 26:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Like, that's not an easy park to pitch at. The
- 26:27Speaker 2: ball flies there, especially in the summertime. So, I mean,
- 26:32Speaker 2: he's been underrated all year. I think when you get
- 26:34Speaker 2: off to a slow start, you just go underrated all year.
- 26:36Speaker 2: It doesn't matter how good you are, which is sometimes
- 26:38Speaker 2: a good thing. But that three-headed monster, man, Sanchez, Zach Wheeler,
- 26:43Speaker 2: and Jesus– They're.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Going to be tough, bro. They're loaded. Shout out to
- 26:47Speaker 1: our producer, Chris Tran.
- 26:49Speaker 2: He's a big Phillies guy, so I know he's feeling
- 26:52Speaker 2: good about this conversation right now.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Congrats, Jesus Lizardo, for being the player of the week.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Got to mention, though, my boy Kobe Mayo hit two
- 27:04Speaker 2: home runs yesterday.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Roman Anthony's back.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Got to hit an RBI yesterday as well. Stoneman Douglas alumni, man,
- 27:13Speaker 2: down in Parkland, Florida, there'll be six-time state champions in
- 27:16Speaker 2: a row. I mean, Coach Fitzgerald down there has turned
- 27:20Speaker 2: that into a machine. So really, really proud for me
- 27:23Speaker 2: as being a former alum. So shout out to Stoneman
- 27:27Speaker 2: Douglas as always.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Let's talk some playoff baseball. Speaking of playa and playas,
- 27:33Speaker 1: playoff baseball, bro. The Blue Jays are getting hot. The
- 27:36Speaker 1: wildcard race, San Diego, Arizona, like, This thing's getting tight
- 27:42Speaker 1: right down the stretch here with, you know, basically a
- 27:45Speaker 1: little over two weeks to go in the season. We're
- 27:48Speaker 1: out here enjoying golf, but these guys are grinding right now.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Blue Jays are, bro, they could be a little dicey
- 27:59Speaker 2: getting in, scary-wise, for other teams.
- 28:01Speaker 1: You know what I mean? 21-13 since August 1st. They're rolling.
- 28:04Speaker 1: They're rolling. They hold that final wild card spot right now. And,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you know, when you get to the postseason and you
- 28:15Speaker 1: get that push, the experience the year before, going all
- 28:18Speaker 1: the way to the World Series, and you catch your
- 28:21Speaker 1: hot streak, the confidence goes through the roof. And you
- 28:23Speaker 1: know what it's like to play pressure baseball.
- 28:25Speaker 2: And they just played the last game of the season
- 28:27Speaker 2: last year.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know what I mean? There was one game. There
- 28:30Speaker 1: was the final game of the season they played in
- 28:32Speaker 1: the last year. They didn't win.
- 28:33Speaker 2: They almost did by centimeters. But that World Series hangover
- 28:39Speaker 2: run is real, and now they're kicking into gear, going
- 28:42Speaker 2: into the playoffs. I would just imagine in that clubhouse,
- 28:45Speaker 2: it's like, hey, we got this. We've been here before.
- 28:48Speaker 2: You know, it's different vibes, but when they start believing,
- 28:51Speaker 2: it seems like they're starting to believe they're in Toronto again.
- 28:54Speaker 1: You've got that three-headed monster. You're talking about the Phillies,
- 28:58Speaker 1: and we talk about Scherzer's back, throwing the ball well,
- 29:02Speaker 1: and Cease is a Cy Young candidate, like, pitching, having
- 29:06Speaker 1: a phenomenal year.
- 29:08Speaker 2: They get Soriano from the angels.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah. So it was like a, yeah, I mean, consistent
- 29:14Speaker 1: pitching is going to keep you in that, in that race.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And they've got that right now. You know, and they've
- 29:20Speaker 1: got an easy schedule down the stretch. They've got, I.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Think they only play the red socks, right?
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Only playoff team they play down the stretch. So that
- 29:29Speaker 2: doesn't really matter. Except when it comes to September, in
- 29:31Speaker 2: my opinion, when teams are playing spoiler, but yeah, I mean,
- 29:35Speaker 2: the Astros are getting hot and the.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Astros don't get enough love the Astros don't get enough love.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Your Don Alvarez is, you know, the triple crown right now.
- 29:47Speaker 1: And I think they're, they're, they're so underrated. Like they've
- 29:52Speaker 1: got winners all around that team. Some young guys mixed
- 29:55Speaker 1: in and their starters are starting to throw the ball better. Um,
- 29:59Speaker 1: That's been their kind of Achilles heel all year long.
- 30:02Speaker 1: They've got Hayter on the back. They're going to lock
- 30:04Speaker 1: down any W with him. He's having a great year
- 30:07Speaker 1: and doesn't get talked about. But the Astros are flying
- 30:10Speaker 1: under the radar with Jordan as well and going to
- 30:13Speaker 1: be the American League. I think he's got the American
- 30:15Speaker 1: League MVP locked up. Oh, 100%, right?
- 30:18Speaker 2: I mean, they fired their GM like a month ago.
- 30:23Speaker 2: They didn't go out at the deadline and make moves.
- 30:25Speaker 2: The AOS is weak. But again, it's another one of
- 30:29Speaker 2: these teams where they get in, in a three-game series,
- 30:33Speaker 2: they can beat anyone.
- 30:34Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 30:35Speaker 2: And they have experience. They have guys that have been there.
- 30:38Speaker 2: One World Series.
- 30:39Speaker 1: They've done it. So the Astros, I wouldn't say they
- 30:46Speaker 1: haven't been talked about enough.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Because their record's sitting around 500. So it's hard to
- 30:53Speaker 2: talk about them when you have Guys like PCA or.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they're leading their division in a
- 31:00Speaker 1: crappy one with Texas and... How about the Orioles? You
- 31:07Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 31:09Speaker 2: This division in the ALS is going to decide itself.
- 31:13Speaker 2: The AL Central is close. The White Sox and the Guardians.
- 31:17Speaker 1: It's like.
- 31:17Speaker 2: It feels like the White Sox all year have just
- 31:21Speaker 2: been in first place, been in first place. Then you
- 31:23Speaker 2: look up and the Guardians are a game or two
- 31:24Speaker 2: behind them. And then the last two, three, four years,
- 31:28Speaker 2: the Guardians just come out of nowhere in September and
- 31:30Speaker 2: make a run, right? So it's going to be this
- 31:33Speaker 2: next three weeks of baseball.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Buckle up. I mean, college football is back. We are back.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Let's go. We have terrible.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Calls going on with the Michigan game, right?
- 31:41Speaker 1: The FSU game last night, the lights didn't work. FSU
- 31:47Speaker 1: can't get their lights to work. Wayne Kiffin is walking down.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Harpette's heads are falling off.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I think there was, like, 900 credentials for celebrities at
- 31:57Speaker 2: the LSU game. Did you see any of this? I mean,
- 32:00Speaker 2: the scenes from Baton Rouge, Louisiana for LSU.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It looked electric.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I've been to a few LSU games.
- 32:07Speaker 2: If you're a college football fan, you need to go
- 32:10Speaker 2: to Baton Rouge and experience a game in Death Valley,
- 32:13Speaker 2: a night game. It is the most electric atmosphere of
- 32:17Speaker 2: all time. And then I hear people saying that that
- 32:20Speaker 2: game itself, the intensity was insane. As loud as it's
- 32:24Speaker 2: ever been. I mean, it's my.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Favorite time of year. Favorite time of year. Playoffs and
- 32:32Speaker 1: college football starting. This is a good time of year
- 32:34Speaker 1: to be a sports fan. We're golfing. Old Head, Hogshead, Waterville.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Where else are we playing, Rossi? Sorry about it. Sorry
- 32:42Speaker 1: about it. Old Head, yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Taking helicopters to golf. Let's get to our weekly Tim Bus...
- 32:51Speaker 2: Ball bag slash mail bag questions of the week.
- 32:54Speaker 1: We got some good ones this week, huh, Rossi? Yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 1: let's get the first one from James Malloy. Okay, what
- 33:01Speaker 1: are your thoughts about the current September call-up system where
- 33:05Speaker 1: only one position player and one pitcher is added to
- 33:08Speaker 1: the big league roster versus the previous system when we
- 33:12Speaker 1: were playing where the major league team was allowed unlimited
- 33:19Speaker 1: except for the 40-man roster? Does this prevent minor leaguers
- 33:22Speaker 1: from getting a chance to play in the bigs? So
- 33:25Speaker 1: I butchered that read.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Well, there's, there's a few different segments in that question.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Thank you, James, for the email. We appreciate it. If
- 33:34Speaker 2: you want to email your questions, you can go to
- 33:37Speaker 2: ralstonrizzo.gmail.com or leave a comment on our YouTube channel. I
- 33:44Speaker 2: like the way it is now, man. I mean, The
- 33:48Speaker 2: original way is you can call up up to 40 guys.
- 33:50Speaker 2: You can call up everyone on your roster, right? And
- 33:54Speaker 2: games would take forever, and there'd be a million pitching changes.
- 33:57Speaker 2: And when you're in a playoff race and you're facing
- 34:01Speaker 2: guys that you've never seen before, that is a big
- 34:04Speaker 2: advantage for the other team. So I like the strategy
- 34:08Speaker 2: of the game. Does it prevent minor leaguers from getting
- 34:11Speaker 2: a chance to play in the bigs?
- 34:12Speaker 1: No. No. That's, this isn't a, this isn't a charity league.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you. You got to earn your way
- 34:21Speaker 1: to the, yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 2: And, and sometimes the opportunity isn't there and you maybe
- 34:26Speaker 2: are knocking on the doorstep. You don't get the opportunity,
- 34:28Speaker 2: but we're not just, you're not as a big league.
- 34:31Speaker 2: You're not just handing out, you know, you, once you're
- 34:34Speaker 2: a big league, you're a big leaguer for life, whether
- 34:35Speaker 2: it's one day in the big leagues or, or, or
- 34:37Speaker 2: 20 years, you know.
- 34:39Speaker 1: The goal is not to see how many people we
- 34:40Speaker 1: can get in the big leagues. That's not the goal.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You know, and it's such a disadvantage for the integrity
- 34:46Speaker 1: of the game. I always thought when you get to
- 34:49Speaker 1: call up all, you know, a team that's in the
- 34:51Speaker 1: playoff hunt is, you know, they're not using these call-ups.
- 34:55Speaker 1: They're kind of emergency or backups or giving somebody a
- 34:58Speaker 1: rest that maybe they clinch early. But the teams that
- 35:01Speaker 1: aren't in, they're using that as a development and to
- 35:04Speaker 1: see if guys are really good and playing a bunch
- 35:07Speaker 1: of young guys you don't know. And so it's just like,
- 35:10Speaker 1: you don't, you know, the league hadn't figured them out yet.
- 35:13Speaker 1: They're not have a lot of the bats and, you know,
- 35:15Speaker 1: you can lose some games that way with some, some
- 35:18Speaker 1: teams out of it playing young guys that are talented,
- 35:20Speaker 1: which is great, but if they're talented enough, they'll be
- 35:22Speaker 1: there when they've earned it and kind of making the
- 35:26Speaker 1: 26 man roster or 28 man roster. And they can
- 35:29Speaker 1: see those guys. So now they're bringing up an extra
- 35:31Speaker 1: pitcher to cover some innings and also maybe a speed guy.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Like a lot of people bring up, just somebody to
- 35:39Speaker 1: pinch run, to steal a big base late in the season. Yeah. Yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 1: I mean, I like the rule.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Maybe they can add maybe one more pitcher just to
- 35:47Speaker 2: have length in the bullpen. But, yeah, that just goes
- 35:52Speaker 2: back to starting pitching. It needs to go deeper, right?
- 35:54Speaker 2: I mean, I think you go to the– I mean,
- 35:56Speaker 2: there's an elite starting pitcher on the mound. You want
- 35:58Speaker 2: to see him go seven innings, not five.
- 36:01Speaker 1: This is– that leads us into our next question, which
- 36:03Speaker 1: is a really good segue from Anna Hyde, Rizzo. I
- 36:08Speaker 1: was at the game y'all played at the Braves in 2021,
- 36:12Speaker 1: where I managed, where you struck out Freddie Freeman. What
- 36:16Speaker 1: did that moment mean to you? And where does it
- 36:18Speaker 1: rank in the top moments of your career? Let's play
- 36:23Speaker 1: the test here. We got some video of it. This
- 36:26Speaker 1: never gets old. Sorry, Freddie. Seventh inning. Yep. Yep.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Dude, no one realizes there that at the end, when
- 36:40Speaker 2: I grab the ball with one hand and stand there,
- 36:42Speaker 2: that's the Chapman.
- 36:43Speaker 1: That's what Chappie does after all of his saves. Somebody's
- 36:45Speaker 1: got to get it. That's right. You got to throw
- 36:48Speaker 1: it out. Look at this. What a pitch. What a
- 36:51Speaker 1: break in ball. Yeah. Look at his face. I mean,
- 36:55Speaker 1: he was four for four in the game. This is
- 36:57Speaker 1: what it's supposed to be when a position player pitches.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Have fun. You know what? A lot of people... Let me...
- 37:03Speaker 1: I got two things to say. A lot of people
- 37:05Speaker 1: were given... the Brewers crap the other day for bringing
- 37:10Speaker 1: in a position player in the seventh inning. We did
- 37:12Speaker 1: it there. Obviously, you're short, and we had a nice
- 37:16Speaker 1: debate at dinner last night about this, and we can
- 37:20Speaker 1: talk about that. But I also want to ask our fans,
- 37:23Speaker 1: there's only been three position players to hit over 300
- 37:30Speaker 1: home runs and strike out a Hall of Famer. Or MVP. MVP, sorry. MVP.
- 37:38Speaker 1: And who are those, Anthony? Babe Ruth, ever heard of him?
- 37:43Speaker 1: Shohei Otani? Ever heard of him? Anthony Rizzo. Okay. Thank you.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Thank you. Let's give it up. Shout out. Shout out,
- 37:53Speaker 1: Big 44. Nice.
- 37:54Speaker 2: But is that a top moment of my career? Maybe fun-wise, accolade,
- 38:02Speaker 2: or accomplishments-wise? No, but This game's all about having fun
- 38:06Speaker 2: and it's a memory. I've always wanted to pitch.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I really did.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And it was great to be on the mound and
- 38:15Speaker 2: to have fun and make light of a crappy situation
- 38:18Speaker 2: when you're losing like that. That's where I feel like
- 38:20Speaker 2: now and in the game today, it's like these guys
- 38:23Speaker 2: come in and they just throw like they're lobbing it.
- 38:25Speaker 2: It's like, and I understand you're scared of getting hurt,
- 38:28Speaker 2: but we throw, we throw every single day, just, Get
- 38:33Speaker 2: up there, play catch with a catcher. You don't need
- 38:35Speaker 2: to be lobbing balls in and making a mockery of pitching.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Go have fun, right? That's my opinion. I had fun
- 38:41Speaker 2: when I did it. And when you have fun when
- 38:43Speaker 2: you do it, it gives a boost to your team.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You're losing by however many. You're punting on the game already, right?
- 38:51Speaker 2: I remember, Rossi, you pitched and you hit a home run. Like,
- 38:54Speaker 2: that gave us so much energy going into the next
- 38:57Speaker 2: day after a loss, where.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Now guys just come in, they lob it. It's almost embarrassing.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Right, the lob pitches, and they give up all these
- 39:06Speaker 2: runs and it deflates the team even more. When a
- 39:09Speaker 2: position player came in, it was always fun.
- 39:10Speaker 1: It was like, all right, we lost.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Let's have a good time. Let's have fun with it, right?
- 39:14Speaker 2: That's my opinion.
- 39:16Speaker 1: No, I'm with you. I'm with you. And I think
- 39:18Speaker 1: I'm a big proponent of and the debate of, like,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I think we need a run rule. Like, we've added
- 39:23Speaker 1: some really good things to the game, some rules to
- 39:27Speaker 1: the game, adjustments to the game. And I get fans
- 39:29Speaker 1: come to C9. innings, but you want to see a
- 39:31Speaker 1: position player pitch when it's not just fun, when it's
- 39:33Speaker 1: like the seventh, eighth inning, you know, and, and the
- 39:37Speaker 1: game just get completely out of hand. I don't think
- 39:40Speaker 1: that's fun for fans. And, you know, we need to
- 39:42Speaker 1: do some kind of, you know, research who, what's the
- 39:45Speaker 1: biggest comeback after the seventh and set that as a,
- 39:49Speaker 1: as a run rule, you know, for me, the whole
- 39:55Speaker 1: run rule, like, let's add a run. Everybody go home.
- 39:58Speaker 1: If it's like 12 runs after the seventh, I think
- 40:02Speaker 1: we're good. I think we're good. The manager, the manager,
- 40:05Speaker 1: everybody gets pissed off. Like the manager brings them in.
- 40:07Speaker 1: You're trying to say the, the goal is the managers
- 40:09Speaker 1: win as many games possible. And it's embarrassing as hell. Like,
- 40:13Speaker 1: That's the worst, bro. That's the worst.
- 40:15Speaker 2: It wasn't embarrassing when I did it, when you put
- 40:17Speaker 2: me in, it wasn't embarrassing.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Well, then I had to come take you out of
- 40:19Speaker 1: the game because I had to protect my, one of
- 40:21Speaker 1: my best players. And I took the ball. I went
- 40:23Speaker 1: and got the ball from you after that. I took
- 40:25Speaker 1: you out of the game after that. And I had
- 40:26Speaker 1: to bring in another position player. I have a zero.
- 40:29Speaker 1: You're all right. I'm good with it. You and me both.
- 40:31Speaker 1: You and me both. Yeah.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I never, when I was, when I was with the Yankees,
- 40:35Speaker 2: Booney would not let me pitch. He said that, um,
- 40:40Speaker 2: I don't know if this is true or not, but
- 40:41Speaker 2: he said that they called down from the front office
- 40:43Speaker 2: and said, I'm not allowed to pitch when I.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Got over there. And I'm like, what? That's bullshit. I go,
- 40:47Speaker 1: look at my tape. Check the tape.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Any time we had a blowout one way or the other,
- 40:54Speaker 2: I'd go get my regular glove and I would just
- 40:56Speaker 2: start stretching my arm in front of Booney or.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Brad Ausmus or bench coach. I'm ready, guys. Whenever you
- 41:01Speaker 1: need me. Never got to pitch.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I thought that would be cool to pitch at Yankee
- 41:06Speaker 2: Stadium just as.
- 41:07Speaker 1: The little kid in me. Good question, Anna. Hyde, great question.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Our last one is from Nick. Email from Nick. Is
- 41:14Speaker 2: there any truth that on getaway day, concentration is more difficult?
- 41:19Speaker 2: Are you guys swinging earlier than normal?
- 41:22Speaker 1: That's a good question. It depends on how many drinks
- 41:24Speaker 1: we had. It depends on how Saturday night went. No,
- 41:27Speaker 1: just kidding. I always thought getaway days, you know, you're
- 41:32Speaker 1: like screaming in the dugout, happy flight, right? Like that's the,
- 41:36Speaker 1: that should be on a t-shirt. Happy flight. Meaning, like
- 41:39Speaker 1: we want to get on that plane and be celebrating
- 41:41Speaker 1: a W. And that's kind of the last game of
- 41:43Speaker 1: a series in general. Even if you've lost the first two,
- 41:46Speaker 1: you want to get on that plane and feel good
- 41:48Speaker 1: about yourself, the team. And so we used to always
- 41:51Speaker 1: tell happy flight. And then after that W, you're high-fiving
- 41:55Speaker 1: and everybody's yelling happy flight and we're getting ready to
- 41:58Speaker 1: enjoy some nice downtime on the plane. But I don't
- 42:02Speaker 1: think the– I think concentrating on a day game, especially
- 42:05Speaker 1: with teams that– we had the– pleasure, I think, of
- 42:10Speaker 1: playing a lot of day games at Wrigley because of
- 42:14Speaker 1: the Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But most teams play all night
- 42:18Speaker 1: games until Sunday, which is usually getaway day. And it's
- 42:22Speaker 1: hard to get up for those games when your body's
- 42:24Speaker 1: used to playing at night all the time, especially guys
- 42:27Speaker 1: like Anthony who played every single day. And that quick
- 42:30Speaker 1: turnaround for their body was always tough. And that's mentally
- 42:33Speaker 1: and physically. So You can probably speak to a little
- 42:36Speaker 1: bit more being an everyday player, Riz, but I always
- 42:40Speaker 1: thought the happy flight thing was one of those like,
- 42:42Speaker 1: let's lock it in, boys. Win this last one and
- 42:44Speaker 1: get out of here with a good feeling.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Yeah, the only guys are definitely not swinging earlier than normal.
- 42:50Speaker 2: So I would say no to that question. The only
- 42:52Speaker 2: game guys actively are yelling at each other to swing
- 42:56Speaker 2: on the first pitch is the last game of the season.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Right or the last game of spring training like nobody
- 43:01Speaker 1: cares nobody cares let's get the hell.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Out of spring training right the getaway days i mean
- 43:08Speaker 2: looking back you can see like if we were out
- 43:12Speaker 2: west or something and going into an off day day
- 43:15Speaker 2: game you're you're coming off the west coast maybe you're
- 43:19Speaker 2: one foot back in the city you're going to or
- 43:22Speaker 2: something like that but At the end of the day,
- 43:24Speaker 2: when the game starts, your concentration level is as high
- 43:28Speaker 2: as it can be. Sometimes you're 100 out of 100.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Sometimes you only have 70% of concentration, but you're giving 100%
- 43:37Speaker 2: of that.
- 43:38Speaker 1: I don't think there's.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Really much truth to the getaway day stuff, but I'm
- 43:45Speaker 2: sure there's something there.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Last day of the season and last day of spring training.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Last day of the season, last day of spring training.
- 43:51Speaker 1: You're like, if you take a strike, it's $ 100 fine. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 1: everybody who takes a first pitch strike, it's a hundy.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and then there's some times where you just need
- 44:02Speaker 2: to get out of dodge. There's times when we were
- 44:05Speaker 2: at Wrigley or even when I was at the Yankees
- 44:07Speaker 2: at Yankee Stadium, there's just times where you need to
- 44:09Speaker 2: get on the road, where the team wasn't playing well,
- 44:13Speaker 2: it just felt too heavy at your home field. You
- 44:16Speaker 2: ever feel that before, where you just need to go,
- 44:19Speaker 2: Like kind of reset on the road and then get
- 44:21Speaker 2: back to playing.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Maybe a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:25Speaker 2: But good questions. I mean, dude, these questions are. That's
- 44:29Speaker 2: my favorite. I like the Tim Boss ball bag questions
- 44:31Speaker 2: of the week. Those are those are fun. I love
- 44:32Speaker 2: answering the fans questions. We love hearing from you guys.
- 44:35Speaker 2: We like doing this again. Shout out to Hogshead. We're
- 44:39Speaker 2: here in Ireland. An amazing trip back in the States
- 44:44Speaker 2: in a couple of days. Starting twice a week next week, Rossi.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. I'm excited.
- 44:50Speaker 2: We're going Tuesday and Friday next week to amp up
- 44:52Speaker 2: the stretch run here. I can't wait to be talking
- 44:56Speaker 2: more with you. We've got our own playoff push, me
- 44:58Speaker 2: and you. Yeah, you and me have our own playoff push.
- 45:01Speaker 1: That's nice. That's nice.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Thanks, everybody, for tuning in. Keep the questions coming. Thank you, everyone,
- 45:06Speaker 2: for tuning in. We will see you next week.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Love you.
