- 2:35Speaker 2: They're here the weekend, they'll be gone. But I have
- 2:40Speaker 2: a new author, so y'all know it's Tuesday. So a
- 2:43Speaker 2: new author and a new book. So it is nothing like.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Being a daddy's girl.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I am one that could say I am a
- 2:58Speaker 2: daddy's girl. I remember being four or five, six and
- 3:05Speaker 2: down here in Charleston, we used to have the black
- 3:09Speaker 2: baseball teams.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Okay, so every Saturday and every Sunday we would go
- 3:13Speaker 3: to the park, right and all the guys, all the
- 3:17Speaker 3: fathers would have their kids on the stands, sitting down
- 3:22Speaker 3: and they would be playing with their teens.
- 3:24Speaker 4: I loved this.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I remember my dad coming to pick me up on
- 3:28Speaker 2: Saturday afternoons, walking down to the park, and I had
- 3:32Speaker 2: me a pickle, I had me a chili bear and
- 3:36Speaker 2: a hot.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Dog, and I was good.
- 3:39Speaker 2: My dad were out there pitching or hitting, he'd look
- 3:43Speaker 2: back at me, give me a wink, and I was
- 3:47Speaker 2: good to go.
- 3:49Speaker 3: But this book and this author.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Is going to explain how searching for a father's love
- 3:55Speaker 2: is a journey from brokenness, healing and grace. So you
- 3:59Speaker 2: got I would love to bring up author Michelle Breaks.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Come on up, curly.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Come on, Oh hey, heyes, how are you?
- 4:14Speaker 3: I am good, Mama, how are you? I am well,
- 4:17Speaker 3: I'm so happy to be here. Me too.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I even excited.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I even excited.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Now I know about you, But how about you tell
- 4:27Speaker 2: the audience about Miss Michelle Breaks. All right, everybody, my
- 4:32Speaker 2: name is Michelle Brings. As you can see, I am
- 4:36Speaker 2: an author. I am a new author. I currently live
- 4:41Speaker 2: in Texas. I have lived around in many different places.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I was born and raised in Chicago, and I have
- 4:47Speaker 2: lived in other states, many other states, and life brought
- 4:53Speaker 2: me to Texas.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So my journey to Texas.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Was a little different because I went through a divorce
- 4:59Speaker 2: after twenty year marriage, and I decided that I wanted
- 5:03Speaker 2: to do something different with my life. My oh, my
- 5:06Speaker 2: youngest child, had turned eighteen. She went off the college
- 5:08Speaker 2: in Virginia. I came back home and said, okay, Michelle, what.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Do you want to do?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Because I have been a mother and I have been
- 5:15Speaker 2: a wife, and I never been me and so at
- 5:18Speaker 2: that time, I didn't know how to make that decision.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I didn't even know how to even start. So I
- 5:23Speaker 2: went online one night and I said, let me look
- 5:25Speaker 2: up the top ten treep oft cities to live in
- 5:27Speaker 2: the US, and Temple, Texas was one of them. So
- 5:32Speaker 2: I came to Temple, Texas in September Labor Day weekend
- 5:35Speaker 2: twenty fifteen.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Checked it out.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oh they had a Walmart, right, they had a Sam's Club.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Small town, but they had just the necessities that I needed.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So I said, okay, I think I can live there,
- 5:47Speaker 2: went back home and started applying for jobs, and the
- 5:50Speaker 2: doors began to open. I received the job, came back
- 5:53Speaker 2: for the interview, and then the time I was like, Okay,
- 5:56Speaker 2: I'm sorry if I don't know if this is something
- 5:58Speaker 2: I really want to do, because I've never been on
- 5:59Speaker 2: my own.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I've been married, you know. I met my husband.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I met him at the age of seventeen and we
- 6:05Speaker 2: were divorced at age forty one. So I didn't know
- 6:08Speaker 2: anything else. I didn't know anyone else. And on top
- 6:11Speaker 2: of that, he was a pastor, so I was a
- 6:12Speaker 2: pastor his wife at the time. So it was a journey.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It was a real good, real.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Good ad slash challenging. I don't want to say difficult.
- 6:22Speaker 3: It was a challenging journey.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And so in the meantime, I packed up where I
- 6:26Speaker 2: could fit I got the job, got a place to live,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I packed up where I could fit in my equal Knox,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and I've drove to Texas and I've been living in
- 6:34Speaker 2: Texas for ten years.
- 6:37Speaker 3: And so just this past year or so, I've.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Been feeling a nudge that it's time for me to
- 6:42Speaker 2: tell my story. And I learned that you can't really
- 6:45Speaker 2: tell your story really like you need to until you
- 6:48Speaker 2: become in a place of healing because a lot of
- 6:50Speaker 2: times triggers. You know, sometimes we have scars there and
- 6:53Speaker 2: sometimes if you touch it's tender underneath the skin, or
- 6:57Speaker 2: you have a scar there and you look at it
- 6:59Speaker 2: and it brings back the memories.
- 7:00Speaker 4: But I've learned that when you come.
- 7:03Speaker 2: To a place of healing, those scars are the battle scars.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They're there to show that you came through the battle,
- 7:09Speaker 2: but you survived it. And so in my book, I
- 7:12Speaker 2: want I talk about a lot about my survival mode,
- 7:15Speaker 2: but I also wanted I try to go to that
- 7:17Speaker 2: thriving mode because it's not Life is just not meant
- 7:20Speaker 2: for us to just to survive.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Life is meant for us to thrive.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Because I'm gonna talk I'm a spiritual person, so I'm
- 7:26Speaker 2: gonna talk spiritual, So the Bible tells us. In John Tanten,
- 7:30Speaker 2: he says, God says the thief coming out to put
- 7:33Speaker 2: to steal, kill and destroy. He said, but I come
- 7:37Speaker 2: that you might have life and have it more abundantly.
- 7:41Speaker 2: So that in that Patrice, it's like, people think we
- 7:44Speaker 2: have to die and go to heaven and have that
- 7:46Speaker 2: abundant life. But God was talking about he wants us
- 7:48Speaker 2: to have abundant life right here on earth right And
- 7:54Speaker 2: sometimes people think, oh, I'm suffering in my marriage and
- 7:57Speaker 2: I'm going through this and I'm going through that. But
- 7:59Speaker 2: God in for us to have abundant life, and it's
- 8:04Speaker 2: to us.
- 8:05Speaker 4: It's us to.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Obtain that abundant life. A lot of people don't see
- 8:09Speaker 2: it like that. I mean, okay, so okay, y'all know
- 8:13Speaker 2: everybody out there that I was born and raised in
- 8:16Speaker 2: the church. There's this one song I just never could
- 8:20Speaker 2: well actually too.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Shake the devil off.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I truly never did understand that song. But then this
- 8:28Speaker 2: is the one that really used to get me, y'all know.
- 8:31Speaker 2: B et late that night I'm coming, I was like,
- 8:42Speaker 2: I understand there's gonna be trials and tribulation, but why
- 8:46Speaker 2: do we have to choose to go up the rough side.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Of the mountain? Can the journey? We don't have to
- 8:52Speaker 3: climb the mountain.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Speak to the mountain. Just speak to it.
- 8:56Speaker 3: You don't even have to climb the mountain.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And to have amount to be that move and be
- 9:00Speaker 2: cast into the midst of the sea, and shall not
- 9:03Speaker 2: die in your heart. But believe that whatever thing you desire,
- 9:06Speaker 2: when you pray, you receive them and you shall have them.
- 9:09Speaker 2: So why are you climbing when all you got to
- 9:11Speaker 2: do is speak? What's the energy?
- 9:14Speaker 3: See?
- 9:15Speaker 4: You got me? Because I can see them right now,
- 9:24Speaker 4: That's all we say. It on my nerves.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I just never understood, like, why we going up there?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Why are you choosing to go up.
- 9:32Speaker 4: The rough side of the mountain.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yes, it's gonna be trial and tribulation, But how I
- 9:38Speaker 2: tell friends of mine, if you're always in a trial
- 9:42Speaker 2: and tribulation and you never have a time of peace, man,
- 9:47Speaker 2: you might need evaluate your.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Soon.
- 9:58Speaker 2: We understand that you wrote this book to tell your story, right,
- 10:03Speaker 2: what part of your story were you wanting to tell?
- 10:06Speaker 2: What are you wanting your readers to take away from
- 10:09Speaker 2: their book? I wanted my readers to take away a
- 10:12Speaker 2: place of healing, that they are not alone, and that
- 10:15Speaker 2: God is a god of restoration. To know that you
- 10:19Speaker 2: can be restored, you can find that place of peace,
- 10:23Speaker 2: that you can find that place of happiness and joy.
- 10:27Speaker 2: And so I really want my readers to know that, hey,
- 10:31Speaker 2: you might have gone through some things, like we all
- 10:33Speaker 2: have a story, right, your story's not mine, My story
- 10:36Speaker 2: is not the next person. However, in the midst of
- 10:38Speaker 2: our stories, I want people to know that there is
- 10:43Speaker 2: in your brokenness, there is a wholeness and a wellness.
- 10:46Speaker 3: That God wants to give us. And that's what I was.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Talking about with that abundant life. And you know, and
- 10:52Speaker 2: I wanted to share this with you because you know,
- 10:55Speaker 2: sometimes we feel like.
- 10:58Speaker 3: But like nobody else going through this but me, right,
- 11:02Speaker 3: nobody else. I'm the only one.
- 11:04Speaker 4: That going through this.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And so many many years ago, Buttrice, my godmother, mother,
- 11:09Speaker 2: Mama Lisa, if you listening, hey, my godmother, tell me
- 11:13Speaker 2: you got somebody's delivers inside of you. You need to
- 11:16Speaker 2: tell your story. Somebody's waiting to hear your story. This
- 11:20Speaker 2: was many many years ago, many many years ago, And
- 11:24Speaker 2: so she told me that, and I sat on it
- 11:27Speaker 2: for so long you know why I said on it
- 11:29Speaker 2: because I wasn't healed, and so I didn't feel like
- 11:32Speaker 2: I should tell this story because I'm still going through
- 11:35Speaker 2: the process, right And sometimes our victory is in the process.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Our victory is while we're going through that struggle or
- 11:43Speaker 2: whatever we're going through.
- 11:45Speaker 4: So sometimes we have to go ahead and tell the story.
- 11:47Speaker 4: So in little groups or little.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Side piece of one on one, I would tell my
- 11:51Speaker 2: story to different individuals that I felt led to. However,
- 11:55Speaker 2: I felt like I have a bigger platform now. I
- 11:57Speaker 2: feel like it's time for me to share my story.
- 12:00Speaker 2: And because you know that you heard the saying you
- 12:03Speaker 2: see the glory, but you don't know the story. So
- 12:05Speaker 2: I want them to see my glory. But I do
- 12:07Speaker 2: want them to know the story, Okay, So that's what
- 12:10Speaker 2: I want. I want to share that story so they
- 12:12Speaker 2: can see where I am now. A lot of people
- 12:14Speaker 2: ask me, how did you do it? How did you
- 12:17Speaker 2: move with just what you fit in your car? If
- 12:18Speaker 2: you look at my house right now, you couldn't tell
- 12:20Speaker 2: that I moved in here. What I feel in an
- 12:22Speaker 2: equinox because God has restored me with so much abundance
- 12:26Speaker 2: that I don't have. I don't have nothing to worry about.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I got more than enough. So I just realized that
- 12:33Speaker 2: knowing that you see the glory, but I want to
- 12:36Speaker 2: be able to tell the story.
- 12:37Speaker 4: So I just know that this.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I'm thankful for your platform being able to be here.
- 12:42Speaker 4: On sc book goals.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I'm so thankful for the platform.
- 12:47Speaker 2: But I also know that my my platforms gonna get bigger,
- 12:51Speaker 2: and I want to take it to a stage. I
- 12:55Speaker 2: want my book to be my leverage. A lot of
- 12:57Speaker 2: times paper right, say, a whole lot of books out
- 12:59Speaker 2: there that nobody's opened it. And so I have a
- 13:03Speaker 2: mentor who told me, Michelle, look at your Amazon cart.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, how many things you got
- 13:09Speaker 2: in an Amazon cart you're gonna put on your wish list?
- 13:11Speaker 2: You gotta sit in there, and you know you haven't
- 13:13Speaker 2: body yet, and how long has it been there? Ooh? Right?
- 13:18Speaker 2: And so, and she said, your book is probably sitting
- 13:21Speaker 2: inside somebody's Amazon cart.
- 13:25Speaker 4: And they just have not purchased it yet.
- 13:29Speaker 3: So I want to take it.
- 13:31Speaker 2: To a further I want to do just not the books.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I want to have healing lunches, lunches. I want to
- 13:38Speaker 2: be able to have retreats. I want this to go global.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I really want this to be able to share. I
- 13:44Speaker 2: want to share my story on stages. As I told
- 13:47Speaker 2: you before we even started, I love to talk, can't
- 13:49Speaker 2: you tell? I love to talk? So I just I
- 13:54Speaker 2: love to share. I want to share it because I
- 13:56Speaker 2: want to see. I don't want to go on this
- 13:57Speaker 2: trip and this journey by myself, this journey of the
- 14:00Speaker 2: brokenness and the healing and the grace. I want to
- 14:03Speaker 2: be able to share this healing grace of what God
- 14:06Speaker 2: did for me. And because there's no secret what he
- 14:09Speaker 2: can do, what he's got for others, he'll do for others.
- 14:12Speaker 2: So what he's done for me, he'll do for other people.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So I just want to be able to share my
- 14:16Speaker 2: story with them. And we're going to bring up your
- 14:21Speaker 2: book and the Sonatas says Through a Blend, a bend
- 14:25Speaker 2: of memoir and reflective storytell Michelle Brings shares the journey
- 14:31Speaker 2: of a daughter's shape by abandonment, broken relationships, and deep
- 14:36Speaker 2: emotional runds. When her parentsrey connected after years of separation,
- 14:41Speaker 2: she dares to hope that healing will finally arrive, but
- 14:45Speaker 2: even as an adult, she discovers that a longing to
- 14:48Speaker 2: be known by her father still remains. You, guys, am
- 14:53Speaker 2: about to bring up the book cover so you can
- 14:55Speaker 2: see this cover.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Look at this. Oh my god, I had to cover
- 15:00Speaker 3: speech so much.
- 15:04Speaker 2: What did you want your readers to see and to
- 15:08Speaker 2: think when they see your book cover? I wanted them
- 15:13Speaker 2: to see and I had this idea what I did
- 15:16Speaker 2: the book cover because it starts my first chapter is
- 15:19Speaker 2: talking about waiting on the porch. And so as a
- 15:22Speaker 2: little girl, I remember my brother and I getting dressed,
- 15:26Speaker 2: my dad promising me to pick us up, and my
- 15:28Speaker 2: mom set us outside on the porch, and she said
- 15:30Speaker 2: that while we waited and waited and waited and waited
- 15:33Speaker 2: and waited, and he never showed. And so I remember
- 15:37Speaker 2: that day, and that little girl sitting on that porch
- 15:40Speaker 2: is me waiting for my dad to show up. And
- 15:45Speaker 2: at the in the background you see a silhouette of
- 15:49Speaker 2: an older woman in the rocky chair, still on the porch, waiting.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Because even though I grew up and I was matured,
- 15:57Speaker 2: I was grown, I still was way for my dad
- 16:01Speaker 2: to show up.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Stone and that whole.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Thing I wanted to just give you a little syknoxis
- 16:09Speaker 2: of what I was meaning by that because my dad
- 16:12Speaker 2: did show up, he did come back into my life.
- 16:16Speaker 3: He remarried my mom after sixteen years of divorce. He
- 16:20Speaker 3: came back into my life.
- 16:21Speaker 2: But I never really had that father daughter relationship that
- 16:26Speaker 2: I always longed for. And so even in the midst
- 16:29Speaker 2: of him coming back, even though he was there, he
- 16:32Speaker 2: wasn't there. And so that thing that I longed for
- 16:35Speaker 2: for years and years and years to be love at
- 16:37Speaker 2: my father, what it means to jump on my daddy's lap,
- 16:40Speaker 2: what it means to lay my head on my dad.
- 16:42Speaker 4: What it meant to just be able to share who.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I was and what I brought to my family. I
- 16:49Speaker 2: didn't have that opportunity totally. So that was one of
- 16:53Speaker 2: the things that I talked about, is that that journey
- 16:56Speaker 2: of just being able to have that father and so real,
- 17:00Speaker 2: and that a father's love, a father guides us and
- 17:03Speaker 2: to our choices as women, as young girls of who
- 17:06Speaker 2: we marry, right, And so I ended up marrying a.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Man that was basically like my father.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Almost.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Oh wow, that is true, because they always say that
- 17:21Speaker 2: a girl's first love is a father.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Mm hm.
- 17:27Speaker 2: They always say that. So I'm gonna digress, you guys,
- 17:30Speaker 2: because I have to. This is on my mind. So
- 17:33Speaker 2: I was you'all know, I served Facebook and I was
- 17:37Speaker 2: doing that tonight, getting ready for the show. And there
- 17:41Speaker 2: was a father who went to his daughter's kindergarten graduation
- 17:48Speaker 2: here in South Carolina matter fact was Columbia, South Carolina.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And the mother.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Because sometimes ladies, I have to admit it be us,
- 18:00Speaker 2: we be the one. But this father showed up and
- 18:08Speaker 2: he's always shown up. The principal acknowledged that. But the
- 18:13Speaker 2: mom was so bitter that she did not let the
- 18:16Speaker 2: daughter graduate.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Wow.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Took her out of the ceremony.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Wow.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So sometimes mothers we have the and even single mothers.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And I'm gonna speak because I am a single mother.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Now we have to open that door to let the
- 18:39Speaker 2: fathers come in. How or even have you addressed this
- 18:49Speaker 2: in your book? Like if if that is the case,
- 18:53Speaker 2: I mean.
- 18:55Speaker 3: How does the healing? How would healing.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Come if it's from the mother's side, like how? So
- 19:12Speaker 2: one thing I can say, Patrece, is my mother was
- 19:17Speaker 2: my strong. She was she was my strength and she
- 19:22Speaker 2: still is my strength, even going through everything she's gonna do.
- 19:26Speaker 2: My dad is now in prison, he's serving a sentence
- 19:30Speaker 2: and my mom is still married to him.
- 19:32Speaker 4: She supports him, she's there for him.
- 19:35Speaker 3: And my mom has shown.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Me the tenacity and the strength of a woman, and
- 19:40Speaker 2: so I really have a lot of that loyalty and
- 19:43Speaker 2: that strength that I get from my mom. My mom
- 19:46Speaker 2: never kept my brother and I away from our dad.
- 19:50Speaker 2: My mom never said that we couldn't see our dad.
- 19:53Speaker 2: And my mom was always that bridge that helped bridge
- 19:56Speaker 2: the relationship between my dad and her children, because my
- 20:02Speaker 2: mom had two children by him. The thing is, as
- 20:06Speaker 2: I remember, sometimes I would go to her and talk
- 20:08Speaker 2: to her, and she said, well, go talk to your
- 20:09Speaker 2: daddy now. They got remarried when I was twenty nine
- 20:11Speaker 2: years old.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I was twenty nine years old, and I had already
- 20:14Speaker 2: been married eight years and had four children of my own. Right,
- 20:17Speaker 2: But the little girl lings side of me longed for
- 20:21Speaker 2: that father's love, and so I felt like, more so
- 20:25Speaker 2: my dad was more of a father to my children
- 20:27Speaker 2: than a grandfather than he was to me. And so
- 20:30Speaker 2: there was times where I had a little jealousy there
- 20:32Speaker 2: because he was being the time with my children, and
- 20:35Speaker 2: he was doing things for my children that I didn't
- 20:37Speaker 2: get a chance to experience.
- 20:39Speaker 4: And so that was a little.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It had a little made me feel a little some
- 20:43Speaker 2: type of way, right, And so I had to heal
- 20:45Speaker 2: from that part because I'm like, you know, I would
- 20:48Speaker 2: tell my kids, that's my daddy and y'all, and he's
- 20:51Speaker 2: treating y'all more like he y'all, y'all his children than
- 20:55Speaker 2: you know me.
- 20:56Speaker 4: I'm as biological. You know it, y'all wouldn't be here.
- 21:02Speaker 2: So my whole thing is I wanted to make sure
- 21:05Speaker 2: that my mom, I mean, awesome woman. My mom is
- 21:08Speaker 2: an awesome woman and I love her, and so Mommy,
- 21:12Speaker 2: if you watch and I love you. But she taught
- 21:15Speaker 2: me so much. She taught me so so much of
- 21:18Speaker 2: how to be strong. And so I have a new
- 21:21Speaker 2: book coming out. We didn't even talk about this earlier,
- 21:23Speaker 2: but in a few weeks I have a new book
- 21:25Speaker 2: coming out. It's called Loving Me while Becoming In that transition.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I talk about that because we as women tend to
- 21:32Speaker 2: go through transitional moments and we are our worst enemies,
- 21:35Speaker 2: we are worst critics, and so in that loving while
- 21:38Speaker 2: we becoming who God has created and predestined us to be,
- 21:42Speaker 2: we got to continue to love ourselves.
- 21:44Speaker 4: We can't say, oh, I'm fat. Oh I'm ugly, my
- 21:46Speaker 4: head is short, I don't look good. I love you
- 21:50Speaker 4: while becoming all right?
- 21:52Speaker 2: Can you stop coming in front of my far though
- 21:54Speaker 2: with that one, because I I'm gonna need you stop
- 21:58Speaker 2: sweeping in front of my all. I have a tennessee
- 22:03Speaker 2: of doing that, you know. Oh I hate this, I
- 22:05Speaker 2: hate that. And I have somebody that speaks into me,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and then sometimes I even block them off, like look
- 22:11Speaker 2: for I ain't even trying to hear you right now,
- 22:14Speaker 2: but you are so right now. You know you got
- 22:16Speaker 2: to tell me when it's the next book coming out,
- 22:18Speaker 2: we can talk about that, man, will do?
- 22:22Speaker 4: You have placed so much.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Of what we need, especially in the African American community.
- 22:34Speaker 2: If the younger you were sitting in front of you
- 22:37Speaker 2: right now, what would you say to her? I would
- 22:43Speaker 2: probably tell the younger me, stop looking for what's already
- 22:49Speaker 2: inside of you. Oh snap, I looked, and I jumped
- 22:55Speaker 2: in and out of relationships until I got married, and
- 22:57Speaker 2: then after my marriage I did. I jumped in an
- 23:00Speaker 2: the relationships, even encountering some situations where I was in
- 23:04Speaker 2: a relationship with a person who I later found out
- 23:06Speaker 2: was on crack, who took me down and through there
- 23:09Speaker 2: and thinking, at fifty years old, I'm experiencing this.
- 23:14Speaker 4: I should know better, I should be bigger than this.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And that's what I'm talking about, loving me while becoming
- 23:19Speaker 2: because we're gonna make some decisions.
- 23:21Speaker 4: And just because you make decisions.
- 23:23Speaker 3: That is not your end. It's not the end.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I always say, that's nothing that I can't get into
- 23:29Speaker 2: that God and me can't get out of.
- 23:32Speaker 4: So we can get into a lot of things.
- 23:34Speaker 2: We put ourselves into a lot of things, but it's
- 23:36Speaker 2: gonna take God and your participation to.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Get you out of it.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 23:42Speaker 2: So yeah, I just really, really, I would tell myself
- 23:46Speaker 2: because the love was already inside me because I love
- 23:49Speaker 2: people and I love heart. Honey, I love heart. When
- 23:52Speaker 2: I love you, I love you and I love heart.
- 23:57Speaker 2: So it was already inside of me, but I couldn't
- 23:59Speaker 2: see that inside of me. I couldn't see that love
- 24:03Speaker 2: inside of me because I wanted it from the external,
- 24:07Speaker 2: and the person that I wanted from really was my dad.
- 24:10Speaker 2: But you know what, all along, God was there. I
- 24:13Speaker 2: was saved and I sanctified and baptized in the Holy
- 24:16Speaker 2: Spirit at the age of nine years old, and God
- 24:20Speaker 2: and God was my everything.
- 24:21Speaker 4: I love the Lord, and.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I still do. But I was missing that human connection.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And sometimes we missed the human connection, whether it be
- 24:32Speaker 2: from my children, from our parents, from our siblings, from whoever.
- 24:37Speaker 2: We missed the human connection. And that I was just
- 24:42Speaker 2: I would hold myself, girl, looking side of yourself. You're
- 24:46Speaker 2: exuding what you want and a lot of times what
- 24:50Speaker 2: we put out. But sometimes we're so thirsty, were looking
- 24:53Speaker 2: for it so bad that we don't even see the
- 24:56Speaker 2: signs and the signals of people who are not even
- 24:59Speaker 2: good for us because we're searching. When I talk about
- 25:03Speaker 2: searching for our father and stuff, you're searching, that means
- 25:06Speaker 2: you're here there, You're going places, you bear with people,
- 25:10Speaker 2: building relationships that you shouldn't have. You're looking for the
- 25:13Speaker 2: love that you wanted from a physical father. But our
- 25:16Speaker 2: heavenly Father has been there the whole time. And that's
- 25:19Speaker 2: what I talk about the end of the book is
- 25:21Speaker 2: what our heavenly Father provides. He provided the love that
- 25:24Speaker 2: I was searching for all along.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Who hooky ya she she Downe brought it home.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I can't.
- 25:34Speaker 4: Listen you Downe brought it home.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Spread the table, we got the chicken that we got,
- 25:41Speaker 2: the ham over here you down and bring it all.
- 25:44Speaker 2: But I gotta give you the apple pie.
- 25:47Speaker 4: All right, let's get the dessert going.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Girl.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Remember we talked behind the scenes and I told you
- 25:52Speaker 2: I have those fun questions.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, all right, you are.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Really like.
- 26:04Speaker 2: So lifetime is on the line, right, Lifetime saying you
- 26:12Speaker 2: know when we love your book.
- 26:14Speaker 3: We need this book. This book is needed. It needs
- 26:17Speaker 3: to be on film. We got to find a correct
- 26:20Speaker 3: actress to play you as a young child.
- 26:25Speaker 2: What child star would you give the opportunity to play you?
- 26:32Speaker 3: And why child star?
- 26:37Speaker 2: I thought he was going to ask me which person
- 26:39Speaker 2: I would be, and I would pick one of my
- 26:41Speaker 2: daughters because they both act like me in the ways
- 26:43Speaker 2: and they look like me.
- 26:45Speaker 4: But we can do that. We can do your daughters, okay.
- 26:51Speaker 4: And what are their names?
- 26:53Speaker 3: Courtney and the Data.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Hey y'all, y'all, all right, so we got Courtney DaVita.
- 27:01Speaker 4: They're about to make their debut.
- 27:03Speaker 3: We're about to make this a family thing. But we
- 27:07Speaker 3: need a man to play your dad.
- 27:10Speaker 2: So that's what we're going to get the star power from.
- 27:15Speaker 2: What male gospel artists would you give the opportunity to
- 27:21Speaker 2: play your dad? Mm hmmm.
- 27:28Speaker 3: It probably be a cor teest.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Singer Uh.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Courty said, hey, mom, Hey, focus, Wow, I'm trying to
- 27:44Speaker 2: think clean Mama, I'm so proud of you all.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Look at the beata all.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I'm trying to think that probably a court text singer.
- 27:58Speaker 2: My dad loved to say, and he was a preacher.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So I'm trying to think.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Of Okay, So one of my favorites is Rance Allen.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I don't know if it would be Rance Allen and
- 28:15Speaker 2: I would Harvey Watkins maybe a little bit Harnie Watkins
- 28:21Speaker 2: from the Canton spirituals.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Ooh, you took it back, then.
- 28:28Speaker 4: You took it.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Okay, So we got Harvey. His name is Harvey. What's
- 28:35Speaker 2: the last Nians Watkins, Harbbie Watkins, and we have DaVita
- 28:39Speaker 2: and Courtney. But you know, every good movie has a soundtrack.
- 28:46Speaker 2: What song would be the soundtrack to your healing?
- 28:54Speaker 3: God is trying to tell you something? Why do you
- 29:00Speaker 3: choose that song?
- 29:01Speaker 4: And color purple?
- 29:03Speaker 3: Yes?
- 29:04Speaker 2: Because God has been trying to tell me something for
- 29:07Speaker 2: so many years. I have been running. I have been hiding,
- 29:11Speaker 2: and not that he's been trying to because God don't.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Try to do anything.
- 29:15Speaker 2: He has been telling me something, and so I have
- 29:18Speaker 2: been turning a death ear and so if I had
- 29:22Speaker 2: listened earlier, I may not have had had as many.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Stumbling blocks along the way.
- 29:27Speaker 2: And so I really believe that that would be the song,
- 29:33Speaker 2: you know, for both of us. I think for my
- 29:35Speaker 2: dad and myself, that God has been trying to tell
- 29:38Speaker 2: us something in both our healing journeys, because we always say,
- 29:43Speaker 2: hurt people, hurt people, right, And some things my dad
- 29:46Speaker 2: did is either because he didn't know any better or
- 29:49Speaker 2: because he was hurting himself and he didn't understand. And
- 29:52Speaker 2: I look at that also as it's with my ex husband,
- 29:55Speaker 2: is that the fact that maybe he was having his
- 29:57Speaker 2: own battles and his own you know, situations, and he
- 30:01Speaker 2: didn't know how to heal himself, and so therefore he
- 30:04Speaker 2: couldn't heal.
- 30:04Speaker 3: You can't heal.
- 30:05Speaker 4: Somebody that's you're not really healed yourself, right.
- 30:08Speaker 2: We're bleeding on people, We're bleeding, we're hurting, and we're
- 30:12Speaker 2: bleeding on people. We're got scars that hasn't been healed,
- 30:16Speaker 2: and we're contaminating people's spirits.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Even in the church.
- 30:19Speaker 2: You know, it's people out there who are standing over
- 30:23Speaker 2: pulpits who are not healed. And we see that every
- 30:25Speaker 2: day on social media. We see it in all these
- 30:28Speaker 2: different platforms. People are talking about the church and talking
- 30:31Speaker 2: about how this person did and this was said in
- 30:34Speaker 2: the church and closed the doors and the money and
- 30:37Speaker 2: the this and the that, and so people are broken
- 30:41Speaker 2: and they are bleeding, and so healing is a very
- 30:45Speaker 2: as a very pivotal point where we can really see
- 30:49Speaker 2: God and really see that He is telling and hear
- 30:52Speaker 2: what he's telling us. You know what, That's true. There's
- 30:56Speaker 2: a lot of hurd people in the church. It's crazy
- 31:00Speaker 2: to say that, but there is. So I know, I
- 31:06Speaker 2: perpetrated for many years the heir with a smile on
- 31:11Speaker 2: my face like the happy first lady. And I was
- 31:13Speaker 2: miserable as excuse my language, Hell, I was miserble girl.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Left to hear you don't even preach it to the choiet.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I'm sitting next to you. I'm then alto you. Just
- 31:23Speaker 2: sprain them were so and I just want y'all to
- 31:29Speaker 2: know I was very upset that they did not put
- 31:32Speaker 2: God's trying to tell you something in the new color Purple.
- 31:34Speaker 3: That was just so disappointing.
- 31:38Speaker 4: In the most recent movie.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Yes, that just hurt my feelings.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Okay, so now we have the movie, the soundtrack, the actors.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Everything is great, all right, you know what? You want
- 31:54Speaker 3: to double ward?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Oh?
- 31:56Speaker 2: Oh, they loved it. You want a double ward? Who
- 32:03Speaker 2: would you like to think?
- 32:07Speaker 4: First and foremost?
- 32:08Speaker 3: I'd like to thank God.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I would like to thank my mother and my father,
- 32:17Speaker 2: and I would like to thank my children. And I
- 32:20Speaker 2: would even like to thank my husband, my ex husband,
- 32:23Speaker 2: and so it was all of that has made me
- 32:25Speaker 2: into who I am today, honey, if it had if
- 32:30Speaker 2: it had not been for those struggles, as Jaquia and
- 32:33Speaker 2: Carr said, I would never know how much have grown,
- 32:37Speaker 2: what I can do. I don't even know my own strength.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Sometimes I surprise myself sometimes. So yes, I would like
- 32:44Speaker 2: to thank everyone for supporting me, supporting my book, and
- 32:50Speaker 2: just being there for me. You know, there's a lot
- 32:52Speaker 2: of people who I have spoken to talk to share
- 32:57Speaker 2: my story. Some people I've had to add actually uh
- 33:01Speaker 2: just just vent to them. Even as recent is today,
- 33:05Speaker 2: I've had to vent. So I am very thankful and
- 33:08Speaker 2: grateful for people that God has placed in my life.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I'm very grateful there. So before you leave, you have
- 33:17Speaker 2: to give us to run down how we could follow
- 33:19Speaker 2: you on social media. How we can grab your book
- 33:24Speaker 2: when the next.

- 34:20Speaker 2: Me in mind my new book would be out. I'm
- 34:22Speaker 2: actually my publisher. You know, I didn't even know how
- 34:25Speaker 2: to write a book. And be honest, I ain't know
- 34:27Speaker 2: how to write a book. I ain't know what to do.
- 34:30Speaker 2: I ain't no so what I ended up doing. I
- 34:33Speaker 2: ended up searching online and I have a publisher. It's

- 35:24Speaker 2: on their web page. I matter of fact, read a
- 35:27Speaker 2: book today. The book had the very end of the
- 35:32Speaker 2: book had me in a choke hold.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I that author. I was like, what were you thinking?
- 35:37Speaker 4: She was like, you read it? I was like yeah.
- 35:40Speaker 2: She's like, oh my god. I love the people do this.
- 35:42Speaker 2: This is encouragement for them. Okay, encourage them like, hey,
- 35:46Speaker 2: I've read your book. I really like this. Some authors
- 35:50Speaker 2: just love that.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 35:52Speaker 2: So you know I'm gonna read your book. I have
- 35:57Speaker 2: made a vow to read almost all the books that
- 36:00Speaker 2: I interview.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Love.
- 36:01Speaker 3: That's fifty two books, y'all. Y'all praise, but it is.
- 36:10Speaker 2: But I like doing it because it it switches up
- 36:16Speaker 2: my genres because if you know me, y'all know what
- 36:19Speaker 2: type of look ivery.
- 36:21Speaker 3: And we got the lovely past the lady.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Here, So I can't talk about scandalous books, certainly, but
- 36:27Speaker 2: you know, but miss Michelle, thank you. I think, not
- 36:36Speaker 2: even knowing that you put some nuggets in me and
- 36:40Speaker 2: helped me, gave me some flashbacks.
- 36:44Speaker 3: And even now that I am forty six years.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Old and my dad I want to say, he's like
- 36:49Speaker 2: sixty four, makes me want to go back and rekindle
- 36:54Speaker 2: because we did lose each other when I got older
- 36:56Speaker 2: and once my mom died, and this will be a
- 36:59Speaker 2: great way for me to rekindle what I had with
- 37:03Speaker 2: my dad.
- 37:04Speaker 3: So I am going to.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Take some words of encouraging from you, yes, and stop
- 37:12Speaker 2: my healing journey, but the healing journey that I think
- 37:14Speaker 2: me and him would need to do together.
- 37:16Speaker 3: So I think you for be with me tonight.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I appreciate your platform. And everybody that's watching you.

- 38:00Speaker 2: in Trouble, But I love to read.
- 38:05Speaker 3: That's my little rock.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Hi, mister Arkansas.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I didn't know black people were in Arkansas.
- 38:19Speaker 2: I have children in Arkansas. Oh, past Chris Briggs, here's
- 38:24Speaker 2: in Arkansas. My daughter Courtney is in Arkansas. I have
- 38:29Speaker 2: a lot of people in Arkansas. I just I guess
- 38:32Speaker 2: someone's just an old South girl. And when I hear
- 38:35Speaker 2: states like you tell.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Him like people actually live in those states. Yeah, ye,
- 38:41Speaker 3: my head.

- 39:36Speaker 2: A lot of people don't realize that the redistricting is
- 39:40Speaker 2: for the two thirds votes, because you know, if you
- 39:44Speaker 2: got two thirds votes, you could change the constitution. But
- 39:49Speaker 2: the thing is they're expecting us to not vote. But
- 39:55Speaker 2: one gentleman said it. He said, we better start for
- 40:01Speaker 2: this comes back to get us.
- 40:04Speaker 3: So let's give them what they want.
- 40:07Speaker 2: You guys, vote if you don't want to vote for yourself,
- 40:12Speaker 2: vote for your kids, your grandkids, your community, your job,
- 40:17Speaker 2: your life, just those that are around you.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Vote.

- 40:43Speaker 2: I say congratulations, you guys did it. And even if
- 40:50Speaker 2: you kind of fell a little bit, remember it's not.
- 40:53Speaker 3: How you stay down, it's how you get back up.
- 40:56Speaker 4: Okay.
- 40:57Speaker 3: So I want y'all guys to know that nobody.
