- 0:12Get laced up, it's time for Bantor with the Boys.
- 0:27Ladies and gentlemen and all you hosers in between, welcome to Bantor with the Boys,
- 0:32Frozen Pond Bantor.
- 0:36My name is Nick and I am here to bring in all of our fun little goons here.
- 0:41We have Mr. Kyle here today.
- 0:44How you doing Kyle?
- 0:45Doing good man, doing good.
- 0:46Can't wait to talk some puck.
- 0:48Finally, here we go.
- 0:49Oh, nothing but puck over here, I'll tell you what.
- 0:52Yeah, very excited to continue that.
- 0:55Love seeing that beautiful face, but we got ourselves a first timer here.
- 0:59We got the Mr. Smeltzer in the building.
- 1:03Mr. Smeltzer, how are you doing there sir?
- 1:06Hey, I'm doing pretty good Nick.
- 1:08Thanks for the invite here, super excited to get going and just ready to talk some puck.
- 1:14Love to hear it, I'll tell you what.
- 1:18As always, we always like to take a moment and make sure that everybody understands that
- 1:23this whole setup we have going on wouldn't be possible without the wonderful work of
- 1:29a beautiful man named Kevin.
- 1:32Kevin, thank you so much for everything you do.
- 1:36This man is making sure we are out there bantering all day long.
- 1:41Let's go ahead and break into why we are all here today.
- 1:44It is a big day today.
- 1:46We have ourselves the big daddy of them all, the NHL trade deadline.
- 1:52And with that came a whole bunch of news around the league.
- 1:56So we are here to go ahead and just banner about that and talk about some big time moves.
- 2:01The first one I feel is one of the biggest ones of the whole entire day.
- 2:07Obviously Mr. Patty Kane going to Broadway.
- 2:12That's a huge one.
- 2:13The Rangers had to give up a decent amount for this.
- 2:16Patrick Kane itself, long time Blackhawk member, finally going in for Stanley Cup.
- 2:22So I'm wondering what you're thinking about that Mr. Kyle.
- 2:26I really like it for the Rangers.
- 2:28I believe it was a second round pick going in return to the Blackhawks, which for Kane
- 2:34that's a steal I think.
- 2:35I mean a second round pick and I think it's kind of like the flurry trade where if they
- 2:42win the first two rounds, I think it becomes a first.
- 2:46But either way, I think it's a really good deal for the Rangers.
- 2:50And obviously, you know, he's already got that connection with Artemi Panarin.
- 2:55I mean, Breadman and Kane are on a line.
- 2:59They're going to go ham and it's going to be fun to watch.
- 3:02And not just with the Kane addition too, they also acquired Teresenko.
- 3:08And I think they traded their 2023 first round pick.
- 3:12So they're going all in this year.
- 3:19But yeah, I really like the move.
- 3:21They're going to be dangerous for sure.
- 3:23And they're definitely a cup contender.
- 3:25Tyler, what are your thoughts?
- 3:28Do you think that, I mean, are we all in agreement that Patrick Kane is a Hall of Famer?
- 3:32Yes.
- 3:33Kevin nodding yes as well.
- 3:35So for me, being a wild fan, Patrick Kane leaving the Blackhawks is amazing because now
- 3:43that's finally over.
- 3:45I mean, yeah, he was for sure.
- 3:47100 percent.
- 3:49So now he's going to a team that already has Panarin, already has a Banaget, Trojek.
- 3:53I mean, there and Adam Fox.
- 3:57I mean, yeah, looking right now, Adam Fox has 57 points.
- 4:01That's ridiculous.
- 4:02And I mean, yeah.
- 4:03And then Teresenko adding Teresenko to that.
- 4:05The Rangers are obviously trying to make a run.
- 4:08Yeah.
- 4:09And Panarin has 69 points.
- 4:11Nice.
- 4:12Think of that power play, guys.
- 4:15Artemi Panarin, Kane, Teresenko, it's a Banaget, Adam Fox.
- 4:26That's like Colorado Avalanche, Joe Sackett days.
- 4:30Unreal.
- 4:31How?
- 4:33You know who brings that all together?
- 4:35Shusterkin.
- 4:37My guy Shusterkin, dude, he's going to carry them through a deep playoff run.
- 4:40Am I saying they're going to win the Cup?
- 4:41I don't know.
- 4:42But that's a whole nother discussion.
- 4:44But I think he's going to carry them.
- 4:47Bar.
- 4:48That man did it as is with nothing around him.
- 4:53And now you just threw an All-Star team in front of him.
- 4:58I just wow.
- 5:00They went all in at the right time.
- 5:02I just nothing about it says they gave up too much.
- 5:06They have so much young talent right now.
- 5:08It's just such a smart move.
- 5:11Yeah, I love the move.
- 5:13Speaking of big moves, we got one that involves so many moving parts.
- 5:19Timo Meyer to the Devils.
- 5:23Devils also receive a fifth round pick with many other prospects.
- 5:28Get themselves a first round 2023 pick, a conditional first round pick on 2024, depending
- 5:35on how they do in 2023 and 2024.
- 5:40They also got a seventh round pick and some prospects, but this has so many moving parts.
- 5:45Kyle, please tell me you got some information on this.
- 5:48I still think it's a win for the Devils.
- 5:51Timo Meyer, he's a hell of a player.
- 5:53He's a power forward, 31 goals, 21 assists.
- 5:58My gut feeling, you know, with the price that they paid, it was a hefty price.
- 6:04But I think Fitzgerald is going to sign him long term.
- 6:10I don't think this is just for a rental if you're paying this much.
- 6:13You know, that's giving up prospects.
- 6:16And then also the 2023 first round pick and then the 2024 first round pick.
- 6:24So I have a feeling they're going to sign him long term.
- 6:26And it's, you know, I really like the move, even though they paid a lot for it.
- 6:32I mean, the Devils, they got such a good young core with they have Hughes, Bratz, Neishir,
- 6:40Mercer, and now they're adding Timo Meyer.
- 6:43They are adding, they're adding a really good young core to the group.
- 6:48And Fitzgerald gets the W on this one, in my opinion.
- 6:52I mean, how many more first round picks do the Devils need realistically?
- 6:55You know?
- 6:56Yeah, huge pick.
- 6:59What you thinking over there, Mr. Schmelz?
- 7:03I mean, I think it's interesting, right?
- 7:05I mean, you do have Jack Hughes already on the New Jersey Devils leading the scoring
- 7:14with 74 points.
- 7:16And then you also have defenseman Dougie Hamilton sitting there with 58 points.
- 7:20I mean, that's huge.
- 7:21And now you just add Timo to that.
- 7:24I mean, that's a win.
- 7:26At the end of the day, you're adding a goal score.
- 7:29I mean, really a playmaker, actually, not just a goal score.
- 7:33I mean, they're just going to have to see how it goes.
- 7:36Especially considering the fact that the East is so deep this year.
- 7:41It is absolutely ridiculous how good the East is.
- 7:45And I think Fitzgerald kind of realized, you know, once they saw Kane and, you know, or
- 7:51Teresenko going first and then Kane, a lot of people are just kind of stacking up in
- 7:57the East.
- 7:58And, you know, Timo Meyer is just a solid add.
- 8:01And they have a shot this year.
- 8:05You have such a huge point on that.
- 8:07I mean, Rangers are sitting in third with 79 points.
- 8:12It's unreal.
- 8:13It's so competitive over there right now.
- 8:15And the fact that they just bolstered that huge team.
- 8:21Yeah, this is a must do trade with the Devils.
- 8:27So that was to me, that was a phenomenal trade when it's all said and done.
- 8:32Talk about another huge trade.
- 8:35Oh, man.
- 8:36O'Reilly over to the Maple Leafs.
- 8:40They gave up quite a bit to be able to get Mr. O'Reilly gave up a couple.
- 8:46The Blues gave up a couple prospects.
- 8:49Blues gave up a first round, 20, 23 pick, third round, 20, 23 pick and a second round,
- 8:5720, 24 pick.
- 8:58While the Wild receive a fourth round pick.
- 9:02Blues retain 50 percent of O'Reilly's contract in the Wild are going to be retaining 25 percent.
- 9:09So there's a lot of moving pieces here.
- 9:11We need our expert to break this down.
- 9:13So I'm just going to hand this one straight over to Mr. Kyle.
- 9:16I wouldn't call myself a hockey expert.
- 9:19I do have an elite hockey mind, though.
- 9:21So I will say that.
- 9:24But I do like this trade for the Leafs.
- 9:27Kyle Dubas back at it, wheeling and dealing.
- 9:30The GM's doing a hell of a job over there, too.
- 9:33You know, acquiring Ryan O'Reilly, another Wild killer that's I'll take it.
- 9:41He's out of the division.
- 9:43He's a great center man.
- 9:45He wins every single face off.
- 9:47I swear to God, the Wilds.
- 9:49I'm just going to talk a little bit here about the Wild.
- 9:52But yeah, we're fans, obviously, but he would win every single draw.
- 9:57And I think he had like a 70 percent face off percentage against us.
- 10:02It was ridiculous.
- 10:04But anyway, a solid ad for Kyle Dubas.
- 10:07Their center position is absolutely stacked.
- 10:10They have Austin Matthews, John Tavares.
- 10:13Now adding Ryan O'Reilly, there's no excuses anymore for the Leafs.
- 10:20They have to make a push here.
- 10:22They got to win or at least go to the Eastern Conference or win the Cup because they're
- 10:28rosters.
- 10:29So they got stars everywhere.
- 10:31I mean, Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Tavares.
- 10:35I mean, God, I'd kill to have this roster if I were GM of the Wild.
- 10:41But overall, Kyle Dubas just I thought it was a really good pickup and it's you know,
- 10:47it's a first round pick.
- 10:49Obviously, you know, they still got a young roster.
- 10:51So I don't think I mean, giving up a 20-23 sucks.
- 10:56But with the roster they have, it's I mean, it's worth it for me.
- 11:01Yeah, I'm not going to lie.
- 11:02I fully agree with you on that.
- 11:05It is it's a phenomenal trade for both sides.
- 11:09I think both sides came with big time wins on this trade.
- 11:13It was smart on on many different levels for exactly as you said.
- 11:18That kind of brings me to my next point.
- 11:20We might as well jump into our trade deadline winners because I think this is probably where
- 11:28we are going to be able to kind of take to things and really break down what all happened
- 11:36over this last week because this trade deadline was just unreal.
- 11:40Move after move after move, picks after picks being traded.
- 11:44So with all these moving pieces and all the transitions from team to team, this is usually
- 11:49the moment we want to take a second and break down each winner and loser of the NHL trade
- 11:56deadline.
- 11:57Schmelzer, what do you got, my man?
- 12:00So I don't mean to kind of repeat myself, but I definitely got to go with the New York
- 12:06Rangers here.
- 12:07I mean, they're definitely adding two proven goal scores.
- 12:10I mean, yeah, they're both aging.
- 12:12They both had injury issues here the past few seasons, especially Teresank.
- 12:16I mean, Kane too, really, honestly.
- 12:18But you're still adding two proven goal scores to your roster.
- 12:22I mean, that can't be a bad move, right?
- 12:24Now no matter what I say next year, I still think they are my winner 100 percent.
- 12:29But why does this trade almost make it feel like their window to win a Stanley Cup got
- 12:35smaller?
- 12:37So like Panarin's like I just looked, I think Panarin's 31 years old, Zabantajad's 29 years
- 12:42old.
- 12:43Arguably, that's kind of your prime, right?
- 12:47But adding Kane, adding Teresanko, who are also aging, like does it feel like their window
- 12:54got smaller?
- 12:55Like I think they got better.
- 12:56I think they're still a winner here, but it feels like their window to win the Cup may
- 13:01have got smaller.
- 13:02Does that make sense?
- 13:03Do you know what I'm saying, anybody?
- 13:05I fully agree.
- 13:07I mean, they had to give up so many picks just to be able to pay for all these players.
- 13:12It's going to be to me long term felt.
- 13:16But man, it's a year for them to do it.
- 13:20Is it Cup or bust?
- 13:21Yes.
- 13:22On that trade, I would say Cup or bust for the New York Rangers.
- 13:25Oh, yes.
- 13:26I agree.
- 13:27Very interesting time to do it too.
- 13:28Shasturkin is at a very solid time, but I don't call him at his prime.
- 13:35That's why I didn't quite see it coming.
- 13:41It makes sense.
- 13:43It's a huge win, like you say, but I didn't expect them to go all in on both.
- 13:50They're trying to win now straight up.
- 13:51They're trying to win this year.
- 13:54They know they got a good tendy in Shasturkin.
- 13:56My opinion, best tendy in the league.
- 13:57I love my guy Vasilevsky in Tampa Bay.
- 14:00I do, but I think Shasturkin is overtaking him at this point as the best tendy in the
- 14:05league in my opinion.
- 14:07But Vasilevsky is close second, but they're definitely trying to just win the Cup this
- 14:12year.
- 14:13I think look for them to make a really deep run.
- 14:15They're not going to go down easy.
- 14:17For sure.
- 14:18I also had Rangers at the top, adding just high caliber players in Kanan and Teresenko.
- 14:27It's a huge move and it's pretty much cup or bust with this team, but I do think they'll
- 14:34make a huge push in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs.
- 14:39My only thing about it is to be doing it at such a crazy time in that Eastern Conference
- 14:46right now.
- 14:47I mean, with the Bruins so dominant, with New Jersey such young talent, and with them
- 14:55kind of sitting third in the division with even looking at wild card wise, gosh.
- 15:04I guess to me it makes sense.
- 15:08It is cup or bust, but I just was like, wow, man, I didn't expect that.
- 15:13Yeah, for sure.
- 15:15Yeah, I'm looking at the conference standing.
- 15:17So there's still six in the Eastern Conference.
- 15:19I honestly think they could battle and still become out on number two.
- 15:24She's passing the Bruins, that's a fact, but the Rangers have a real shot.
- 15:28I mean, you kind of asked or touched on the timing of it and it might be kind of weird,
- 15:33but at the same time it's New York.
- 15:36It's a big market, their fans want big moves and that's what happened.
- 15:40Broadway definitely got a whole bunch more dingers.
- 15:43I had the Predators as another winner in this trade deadline.
- 15:48They acquired a first round pick for, I don't even know who this guy is, Janat.
- 15:51Is that how you pronounce it?
- 15:53I don't know.
- 15:54Anyway, I think he's a bottom six guy.
- 15:58Tampa Bay, holy crap, what are they doing?
- 16:02They gave away a 20-25 first, a second 20-24, a third round 20-23, a fifth round 20-23 for
- 16:14this guy.
- 16:16For a bottom six player, I don't know what they're thinking there.
- 16:20So that's a haul for a bottom six player.
- 16:23I'm surprised David Poyle got so much there.
- 16:28And also they traded away Grandland for a second.
- 16:31They flipped Grandland for a second and then they also had another first round pick in
- 16:3620-23 from the Echolme trade that they sent to the Oilers.
- 16:42So they did a pretty good job and also they also acquired another second round pick for
- 16:49Nino Niederreiter.
- 16:51I think they added like 10 draft picks for three slappies, three slappy players.
- 17:00So David Poyle did a hell of a job in acquiring all these picks.
- 17:04I don't know how he did it, but it was a work of art.
- 17:09But yeah, I think the Predators are a huge winner in this trade deadline for sure.
- 17:16Do you think the Predators are still, you know, have an opportunity to make the playoffs
- 17:21even after these moves?
- 17:22I mean, they're at 66 points right now.
- 17:25So they're sitting at about six, they're six points back of Winnipeg today of the second
- 17:30wild card spot.
- 17:31I mean, yeah, they have a shot at the wild card, but they're going to get completely
- 17:35dominated in the first round if they enter the playoffs.
- 17:39Like they're not going to go anywhere.
- 17:42But the future is bright.
- 17:45They did acquire all these picks.
- 17:47They do have some young talent coming up.
- 17:50But they don't stand a chance at all this year.
- 17:54Sweet.
- 17:55Yeah.
- 17:56So the future of Smashville is good to go is what you're saying.
- 17:58Yeah.
- 17:59The future of Smashville is looking bright, man.
- 18:03Talking about slappies over here, I think Nick has something to say.
- 18:08Talk about slappies.
- 18:09For a team that got rid of a couple older slappies, the Blues are the winners in my
- 18:14books.
- 18:15They got rid of Teresenko, they got rid of O'Reilly and got themselves a good amount
- 18:21of draft picks to be coming into the 2023 and 2024 draft time ready loaded to dig full
- 18:30advantage of the talent that is coming up very soon.
- 18:34So I think the Blues did it at the right time, traded away for the right prospects and who
- 18:41knows might be a gamble, but I just think that they're coming away with a good future.
- 18:48And I hate to say it.
- 18:49I'm a Wilde fan.
- 18:50The last thing I want to do is see the Blues with a future coming.
- 18:55But they're my winner itself.
- 18:57Anybody got any opinions?
- 18:59You know, the Central is in a few years, it's going to be crazy.
- 19:05It's going to be so competitive with the Wildes number one farm system.
- 19:08And then you got all these picks going the other way with the Predators, the Blues and
- 19:14hell the Blackhawks, they could end up with Connor Bedard.
- 19:19Like they're in the Connor Bedard sweepstakes right now.
- 19:23And that scares the hell out of me.
- 19:25Like I do not want a generational talent.
- 19:27I don't want another generational talent going into the Central division.
- 19:31It's been so competitive every single year.
- 19:33It's hard to sneak in.
- 19:35You look at the Wilde and it's hard to make that Wilde card team because the division
- 19:45has always been so talented in my opinion.
- 19:47Yeah, speaking of being competitive and like you're talking how Chicago is in the sweepstakes,
- 19:54the Connor Bedard sweepstakes.
- 19:55I mean, the Blues also have two first rounders this year.
- 20:00And that also kind of sucks going forward as those Wilde fans because they can make
- 20:04a couple moves there as well.
- 20:06Do you know, Nick, was Teresenko going to be a free agent at the end of this season?
- 20:12Like was this was this one of those moves like trade them while you can get something
- 20:16instead of getting nothing?
- 20:19That's a very interesting point because yes, he is an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
- 20:25So essentially they got rid of 50% of his salary, got a couple of draft picks and a
- 20:32prospect out of it.
- 20:34That's just a win in my books for the Blues.
- 20:37Enough about enemy territory.
- 20:39As you might have guessed, we are some local Wilde fans.
- 20:45With that being the case, this is the moment where we go local and we break down another
- 20:51winner.
- 20:53Might be bias, might not be.
- 20:54But Kyle, what you got over there?
- 20:56I want to know what's on your mind.
- 20:58I think Billy G did a great job at the deadline acquiring Johansson.
- 21:04I was kind of like, why?
- 21:07But then I told I had a conversation with Nick when it happened that there's got to
- 21:13be something there's got to be something more.
- 21:16Billy G's got something cooking down the road there, which led to the Greenway trade.
- 21:23And what a trade that was.
- 21:25Getting a second round pick and I think fourth or fifth, a nice little throw in there.
- 21:31What a steal.
- 21:32You know, I was a big believer in the big rig, as they say.
- 21:37You know, he had he showed potential at Boston.
- 21:42I really liked his game as a big power forward.
- 21:46He had some skill and he could use his body.
- 21:50Well, he did that occasionally here for a couple of games, kind of vanished like a ghost,
- 21:57in my opinion.
- 21:58He's 26 now, I believe.
- 22:00You're not going to he's not going to get any better.
- 22:04He's just another slappy Charlie Coyle 2.0.
- 22:09You know, I was a big believer in Jordan Greenway, but maybe a change of scenery is is for him.
- 22:17And I hope it works out for Buffalo, but Billy G, just a big dub on that trade for sure.
- 22:25Honestly, low key, I think Buffalo did kind of win that trade as well.
- 22:29I think it's a win win for both teams.
- 22:31And I know I'm the only person with that opinion in this room right now full of a bunch of
- 22:34wild fans.
- 22:35But here's the deal, right?
- 22:37Like if you're Buffalo, you're already actually doing OK.
- 22:41And I'll talk about them later.
- 22:43I think they can make a playoff push.
- 22:46But you're adding a guy with size, somebody that was, you know, a highly touted prospect
- 22:53for a while in the NHL.
- 22:55The whole league knew about him.
- 22:57And you got him for a second round pick and fifth round pick.
- 22:59He hasn't been great for the wild this season.
- 23:01We all know that Kyle shaking his head over here.
- 23:05But change of scenery.
- 23:08Like you said, he's 26.
- 23:09He's still in a contract for two more years.
- 23:11So he needs to know right now that these two years are kind of his proof of years.
- 23:16I think if he does do it, I could see Buffalo resigning him.
- 23:20I mean, he's somebody that you want on your team as long as he finds his game again, because
- 23:26he is off right now.
- 23:27But I think it's a potential win for Buffalo on this low key.
- 23:31He I think he only has what, eight, six or eight points or something like that.
- 23:37It's not very high.
- 23:38Forty two games.
- 23:39Very invisible.
- 23:41We saw it.
- 23:43The thing that bugs me is that he has his I see a lot of potential in him.
- 23:49Big size.
- 23:50You know, you mentioned that he'd power forward, but he just didn't do it.
- 23:55And Billy G before the deadline was like, hey, hey, Jordan, you need to wake up.
- 24:02You need to or else I'm trading your ass.
- 24:05And that's what happened.
- 24:06You know, he I think he's got the like a passive attitude.
- 24:10He's kind of like he's not a bad guy, but he's just kind of a guy that's just like he, you
- 24:17know, he's just like passive.
- 24:19You know, you know what I mean?
- 24:21He's straightforward, right?
- 24:22He's straightforward.
- 24:23And that's one thing I really like about him.
- 24:26Who is straightforward?
- 24:27Billy G. Oh, straight shooter.
- 24:29Straight shooter, straightforward.
- 24:32But what I I want to know, why did you text me when I texted you about Marcus Johansson?
- 24:41You're like, well, the only reason why it would make sense is if we get rid of Greenway.
- 24:47Touch on that.
- 24:48Like, I don't know how you're just always right.
- 24:51I am an elite hockey mind, Nick.
- 24:55But that being said, you know, even going through the season, you heard about Jordan
- 25:01Greenway potentially being shopped.
- 25:04That's what happened.
- 25:05But, you know, when you add Marcus Johansson, then you acquire Gustav Nyquist.
- 25:10That was another one.
- 25:12So after after that deal went down, I'm like, OK, Greenway Greenway's got to be gone.
- 25:18Like Billy G.'s got something cooking here.
- 25:20And that's what happened.
- 25:21He he waited it out.
- 25:22He got a good deal.
- 25:23He got a second round pick.
- 25:24Yeah.
- 25:25So second round pick and a fifth round pick for Jordan Greenway.
- 25:29I, you know, I thought it was going to be way less.
- 25:32I thought it was going to be like a bag of pucks for God's sakes.
- 25:37Like he could have gone for a fifth.
- 25:39I think a fifth.
- 25:40I would have took a fifth or six for him.
- 25:42Right.
- 25:43The way he was playing, because no one really saw the value.
- 25:46But credit to Billy G. He waited.
- 25:50He wanted a second round pick minimum.
- 25:52And that's what he got.
- 25:55Kudos to him.
- 25:56I would have never guessed a second round pick for sure.
- 26:00Yeah.
- 26:01Ultimately, I still agree with you.
- 26:02I think it's still a win on the trade.
- 26:05But like, you know, you just saw Greenway like the first 10, 15 games of the season.
- 26:09He was actually using his big body the way he should have been and protecting the puck
- 26:14and driving to the net and doing things he should be doing.
- 26:18And it's crazy that I'm sitting here praising him for those things in those 10, 15 games
- 26:24when I mean, you shouldn't be praising NHL player for playing the game like you're like,
- 26:29you know what I mean?
- 26:31But I think like that flash of those games, you know, still shows the type of player he
- 26:36still can be.
- 26:37He was still, you know, dropping guys.
- 26:39I mean, he's obviously going to be on your checking line, but he can still have he still
- 26:42has the skills to put the puck in the net.
- 26:44So that's why I still think it's a little bit of a win for Buffalo.
- 26:47And Greenway.
- 26:48Yeah.
- 26:49Like you said earlier, he was doing fine.
- 26:52You know, during the start of the season, he looked pretty good.
- 26:57But the thing that just really pisses me off is that like if you're that big and got that
- 27:02skill and you can kind of manhandle anybody, why aren't you doing that consistently?
- 27:09And you're getting paid millions of dollars.
- 27:10I'm sitting here.
- 27:11I'm five, four.
- 27:13I'm a solid five, four.
- 27:15And my driver's license, I'm like, I put five, eight down to round up a bit because it's
- 27:19math.
- 27:20If I was Jordan Greenway, like I would just manhandle everybody.
- 27:27I would literally use my body.
- 27:30I'd get in the, you know, get in the dirty areas.
- 27:33You couldn't you.
- 27:34I mean, how can you move a six, six frame?
- 27:36I don't even know what he weighs.
- 27:37It's got to be to 10 to 15 to 21, you know, around there.
- 27:43It's it's it's hard to move.
- 27:46I would kill to be that size.
- 27:48My God.
- 27:50But yeah, I've seen, you know, good riddance.
- 27:52I wish him well.
- 27:53But at the end of the day, he's he's on my slappy list for sure.
- 27:59While slappy list, you heard it first here.
- 28:03Greenway out of here.
- 28:06So if we're going to be talking people being out of here, we might as well talk about the
- 28:10negative side of the trade deadline.
- 28:13Let's talk some losers.
- 28:15I figure I come in with my hot take here.
- 28:19We got for me the penguins.
- 28:21I think the penguins tried to make some lackluster moves at a time where they just are not competitive
- 28:30enough to be trading things away towards their future.
- 28:37I don't understand why they made the moves.
- 28:41They did.
- 28:42I just especially after seeing all the big names going to their exact conference, trying
- 28:51to act like you're going to be competitive now just makes no sense to me.
- 28:56I get it's Crosby.
- 28:57I get it's an Evgeny Malkin.
- 28:59But there's just so many things that makes no sense to me.
- 29:06Please clarify.
- 29:07Somebody clear.
- 29:08Definitely the penguins took a big fat L on this trade deadline acquiring Granny.
- 29:16We call him Granny here in mini.
- 29:19Mikhail Grandlin.
- 29:20He goes to the penguins for a second round pick.
- 29:25I don't know about that one.
- 29:26He's eight.
- 29:27I don't know what his age is now.
- 29:28I think he's like 33, 32, 30, maybe older than that now.
- 29:34But yeah, I don't know why they would.
- 29:36If he was the only one available, I could maybe see why they had that.
- 29:41But us Wild fans kind of know what Grandlin brings right now.
- 29:48The penguins are an aging roster.
- 29:52I don't see them going deep at all into the playoffs.
- 29:58They do have Crosby that's still Crosby, but with the aging roster, with Malkin, Letang,
- 30:10Zucker, they got guys that are mid 30s and the game is only getting faster.
- 30:18And it's kind of, I feel like the penguins are trending, finally kind of trending in
- 30:25the downfall, but they still got Crosby.
- 30:28So I fully agree with you because when it comes to the Mikhail Grandlin thing, the one
- 30:34thing that really kind of set him out and difference from the rest of everybody else
- 30:40was his speed was really that those are the only thing that kind of kept him semi-relevant.
- 30:45And now he's kind of pushing to that point where it's going to be losing a step and versatile.
- 30:50He's pretty versatile.
- 30:51He plays center, he can play wing, but and he's got he's got good bounce.
- 30:55He's got a good eye.
- 30:56It's just, I feel like it's making a weird move giving up, just giving up too much for
- 31:05nothing.
- 31:06I mean, I feel like they had to get a player just because the East is absolutely ridiculous
- 31:13this year.
- 31:14So acquiring someone, maybe a Hex doll, their GM was kind of like in that, oh shit, I got
- 31:23to make a trade because everybody else is making a good trade and Grandlin was to them
- 31:30their only option.
- 31:31That's kind of, I kind of, I just don't see why though, but at the end of the day, that's
- 31:37what they did.
- 31:39Yeah, they took a big fat L in this trade deadline and they're not, they're not going
- 31:45to make the finals for sure.
- 31:49Last but not least, we have our final topic that we're going to be talking about tonight.
- 31:53We decided to put ourselves into a moment and take a risk here.
- 31:59We're going to decide who we think is going to be the underdog of the year, who's going
- 32:04to make the push in the playoffs, who's going to be that eighth seed that makes a deeper
- 32:09run than most people expect.
- 32:12I can already tell Schmelz is just itching, itching to give us our opinion.
- 32:17So you know what, I'm just going to, I'm going to let him start us off here.
- 32:21Hey, so I mean, I've already mentioned them a few times tonight, honestly, but the Buffalo
- 32:27Sabres honestly are my dark horse.
- 32:29So right now they're sitting at 66 points.
- 32:33That's four points behind the Islanders for the second wild card and the Islanders are
- 32:37only one point behind Pittsburgh.
- 32:39So we already, we just touched on Pittsburgh.
- 32:42We all know what they're looking like.
- 32:45I absolutely think Buffalo can jump both those teams, get a wild card spot, make the playoffs.
- 32:52They got a couple of good playmakers on their team and I think they're young goaltender,
- 32:56bear with me here because I had to actually look up how to say his name, but Uko Pekka
- 33:02Lukinen, their 23 year old goaltender is showing flashes of what he can actually become.
- 33:08And I would absolutely love to see him in the playoffs, get some playoff experience
- 33:12and just see what happens.
- 33:15They're a couple of weeks away from getting Alex Tuck back.
- 33:19I think that's going to be a huge addition back to their lineup as well as their defenseman
- 33:25Dolan.
- 33:27So I think again, I think that's just going to be huge once they get those two guys back.
- 33:30I think they're going to go on a run and make the playoffs for sure.
- 33:33Yeah, that's a big point on Alex Tuck.
- 33:37Even him plays early years in Minnesota, I hated the moment we let him go, but that is
- 33:45a huge man coming back in that lineup and you make some huge points on that team.
- 33:50As for me, I kind of feel like my dark horse is going to be the Senators.
- 33:56Senators have some big time talent on that team that just, you know, not many people
- 34:01are really quite fully taken too serious this year.
- 34:04I think that they still have a good shot at being able to make a push with them sitting
- 34:11at 66 points, just like your fellow Buffalo Sabres are sitting.
- 34:17It's a perfect time for them to be able to make a push with that Matthew Kachuk system
- 34:21that they have just put into place.
- 34:24So I feel like they are the team to make the push.
- 34:29What are you thinking?
- 34:30You know what's going to happen with Ottawa is they're going to be sitting in what maybe
- 34:35I like to call a stink hole, maybe that's just a cribbage remark there.
- 34:39But I think Ottawa is going to barely miss out on the playoffs because Buffalo is kind
- 34:43of sneaking above them.
- 34:44So I think that's just how it's going to work.
- 34:47You're not that crazy by that mindset.
- 34:50It really is a toss up between these two.
- 34:52I feel like they both have just as much talent between each other.
- 34:57Fans didn't get too crazy aggressive during the trade deadline, which I kind of like to
- 35:01see for them.
- 35:03But I just I feel like something's flowing for once over in the Northland up in Canada.
- 35:12But yeah, I mean, that's what I got.
- 35:15So a team that I think is going to make a pretty good push is the Winnipeg Jets.
- 35:19I think they're very sneaky.
- 35:20They got a high octane offense.
- 35:23Blake Wheeler still pretty good.
- 35:26Dubois is good.
- 35:31They picked up Nino Niederreiter, which I thought was a solid, you know, that fits kind
- 35:36of the Jets team for sure.
- 35:41They got Oh, Ehlers, Kyle Connor.
- 35:44I mean, they got speed.
- 35:46Shifely we're not talking about Shifely at all.
- 35:48But this is a team that I think is is going to make a serious push.
- 35:54And Hellebuck, I think, you know, that's he's a goaltender that's that I think is going
- 36:00to get pretty hot.
- 36:02So us Wild fans need to watch out for the Jets.
- 36:08I think this year, you know, they've been an interesting team.
- 36:13I've always thought they had all the talent in the world to to go far.
- 36:19But I think with Paul Maurice exiting and with their new coach now, I think, you know,
- 36:27a change was needed.
- 36:29And, you know, it starts with the coach.
- 36:32But yeah, you got all these high end players.
- 36:35I would also kill to have that kind of star lineup.
- 36:39They got a bunch of potential.
- 36:41But yeah, I would watch out for the Jets.
- 36:43I was just going to say I was kind of agree actually agreeing with you.
- 36:47I'm not changing my tone.
- 36:49Buffalo still my dark horse.
- 36:50But the Jets definitely have the goaltender to do it.
- 36:54Hellebuck.
- 36:55And honestly, for me, if you haven't noticed already, I'm already a goaltender, a homer
- 37:00a little bit.
- 37:02But to succeed in the NHL playoffs, I mean, you need a hot goaltender.
- 37:06And that's just a fact.
- 37:07And Connor can absolutely carry a team.
- 37:09Yeah, I definitely agree.
- 37:10I mean, as soon as you said Winnipeg Jets, an exclamation mark just went off my head.
- 37:16I was like, oh, gosh, I did not even quite even think about that.
- 37:20So that is like the definition of that dark horse that I just point valid down to the
- 37:26T. Great points.
- 37:28Thank you, sir.
- 37:29I really appreciate it.
- 37:30I mean, I am an elite hockey mind, not some sloppy.
- 37:36But thank you again.
- 37:37Well, that just about does it for all of our topics today on the NHL trade deadline episode.
- 37:43Thank you for listening.
- 37:45Until next time, all you hosers, we'll catch you on the next one.
