Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #171 - Viral Arrest in Jacksonville: Were the Officers Justified?
Transcript
- 0:00So they've just released footage of the body cam of the officers from the event
- 0:05that happened back in February in Jacksonville.
- 0:08And I want to take a look at this. This is in the ABC News.
- 0:11I had not actually seen this video. This is wild. And I did not realize that
- 0:15this happened like four months ago.
- 0:18But it's now being more evidence is coming out.
- 0:21I thought it was almost AI generated when I first saw this. When I came across
- 0:25this, I didn't think it was real.
- 0:27This black man, he'd been stopped. He's obviously resisting officers.
- 0:32But did they use excessive force? I want to just take a look at this.
- 0:35Can you call your supervisor? All right, go for it. Exit the vehicle now.
- 0:38Exit the vehicle. Show me your hands. Here.
- 0:43I'm here. What is your reason, sir? Step out. What is your reason? Step out now. All right.
- 0:48Do you want me to turn? No, no, no, don't stop. Do you want me to turn? Whoa, so that is wild.
- 0:53I cannot believe that happened. I really, I had not seen that.
- 0:57I know this is, it's been out this long. But I guess we're getting kind of used to it.
- 1:01This is at least what we're fed, that black men are always being stopped and
- 1:05they're always being beaten by white officers.
- 1:08You obviously can see that not all the officers were white right there,
- 1:11but it just plays into this whole race card game.
- 1:14But it's still an actual event of what happened.
- 1:17It's still absolutely wild that that actually went down. But I want to go through
- 1:21this article from ABC News. Jacksonville Sheriff T.K.
- 1:25Waters released body cam footage of the violent arrest of William Anthony McNeil
- 1:29Jr., a 22-year-old black man, after a cell phone video capturing part of the
- 1:34incident went viral on social media.
- 1:36The video shows sheriff's deputies beating and punching McNeil during a traffic
- 1:40stop after he repeatedly questioned why he was being pulled over and refused
- 1:44to exit his vehicle in an incident that occurred on February 19th of this year, 2025.
- 1:50Waters said that the state attorney's office has determined that none of the
- 1:54involved officers violated criminal law, but highlighted that the deputy's actions
- 1:59are now being examined in an administrative review, which will determine if
- 2:02the deputies violated JSO policy.
- 2:05He also identified the deputy who broke the car window and punched McNeil as Officer D. Bowers.
- 2:13These administrative reviews are ongoing, but the state attorney's office has
- 2:16determined that none of the involved officers violated criminal law,
- 2:20even though the administrative review has yet to be completed, Waters said.
- 2:24Pending the outcome of this administrative review, Officer Bowers has been stripped
- 2:29of his law enforcement authority, Waters said.
- 2:31It is unclear if other deputies involved in the arrest have been placed on administrative leave.
- 2:37ABC News has reached out to the JSO and the Florida State Attorney's Office for further comment.
- 2:43So that right there is absolutely crazy. And it's, there's so many different angles.
- 2:49There's so many different ways you can look at this of what went down,
- 2:52what happened. So imagine you're a police officer.
- 2:54This, and when I first saw it, I just saw the guy breaking in and punching through.
- 2:58And I thought it was AI generated. I had, I did not actually think that that
- 3:02was real because the guy is just standing there. He gets punched and he just shows his hands.
- 3:06He's obviously resisting. He's not complying with what the officers are saying.
- 3:10But it did seem like the guy whoever threw
- 3:14the punch that was maybe a little
- 3:17excessive that was maybe a little excessive to do
- 3:20that was that necessary when i first saw
- 3:23it i was thinking like oh they're coming up because you imagine you're a police
- 3:26officer walking up to a car you don't know what's inside there you don't know
- 3:29if you're going to have a gun pulled on you or what but these guys they're out
- 3:32there they're negotiating with them they're talking with him he's resisting
- 3:36them i don't know if they just don't realize that they got a camera on them
- 3:39from inside the vehicle?
- 3:41But police officers now know that they always have a camera on them.
- 3:47Everything that they do is being hyper-criticalized, hyper-scrutinized.
- 3:53I think that's what I was going for.
- 3:54But they obviously know eyes are on them constantly with anything that happens.
- 4:01But what this guy did, he was not going with what the police officers were saying.
- 4:06He was not obeying what they were telling him to do.
- 4:09Which police officers they they have they are
- 4:12representing the law of the united states so it's like if
- 4:15if you say you don't want you don't want to comply with just this
- 4:18what this person's doing because i get that you know i'm not all in like back
- 4:21the blue 100 i'm not all i'm not like that i know there are a lot of like conservatives
- 4:27out there that are for that because i know that the police in an instant will
- 4:32turn if if things aren't going well for them they are the ones that will flip in an instant.
- 4:38They will be the ones that they're
- 4:40not loyal a lot of times to the best well-being of everybody out there.
- 4:46They're going to go with the government. If the government tells them to do
- 4:49something, they're going to just completely lockstep do that.
- 4:52There will be people that kind of don't align perfectly with that and they might
- 4:56resist and try to stand for what's right.
- 4:59If the government say it tries to lock down everyone, tries to just use excessive
- 5:03force, tries to maybe come and strip everybody's guns away, only a few brave
- 5:08officers out there are going to stand up and watch for right.
- 5:13Because you can see anybody and any place in time in history,
- 5:17those people that have the authority, they'll easily go with it because if it
- 5:22costs them their pension, their jobs, just their way of life.
- 5:27They're going to go with what is convenient a lot of times for them.
- 5:31If it costs sacrificing their retirement fund or sacrificing their authority.
- 5:38A lot of times I've just seen that they don't do that.
- 5:42They kind of just give in and they go with whatever the higher ups say.
- 5:48The government says this, do this.
- 5:50Sure, I'm a police officer. I got to do what I got to do. I got to feed my family.
- 5:54I got to do whatever that.
- 5:56And it's when it's not always 100% right. So I know there is always this narrative
- 6:01that black people are always being just punished by the white officers,
- 6:05but that's not always the case. And I think people go a little bit too far on that.
- 6:10There is some of that. There might be racial undertones about it,
- 6:14but these guys, it's not just a flare up, a quick momentary reaction.
- 6:21This guy, whoever's out there, has well thought this through.
- 6:24He knows cameras are on him. And
- 6:25he's given the order and he just punches through and he punches the guy.
- 6:29I can't, I don't, I don't know why he punched the guy, why he went there.
- 6:34Cause the, and that's why that officer has been let go. He's on leave right
- 6:37now as they kind of, as they look into this and try to get a better idea of
- 6:42what actually happened.
- 6:43But there's so much going on here on, on all sides. And I, it does seem like
- 6:48there was brutality here, at least by that guy, when the other officers pulling
- 6:53them out, you know, you got to do what you got to do.
- 6:55And these guys are putting their lives on the line all the time.
- 6:59I mean, they're going up, and every day that they go out, it could be their last, you know?
- 7:06And so, in any car that they walk up to, it could be their last.
- 7:10So they always have to have this hypervigilance, and then it's like their emotions
- 7:14probably get skyrocket whenever they're in the heat of it.
- 7:18This just seemed like it's like you're given the order to punch through and
- 7:23to pull the guy out, but it's like, why'd you have to punch the guy?
- 7:27I mean, did he think that he was going to do something when he was punching through there?
- 7:30He doesn't know exactly what's on the other side. So I get that.
- 7:33But it's either way. I'm just I'm not I'm not I'm not on either side about just
- 7:38like just like, oh, I'm 100 percent.
- 7:40The police are always right. They're always doing the right thing,
- 7:43which I I completely don't agree with that.
- 7:47That is not is not it at all. And they will turn their back on,
- 7:50on the whole fabric and society of life.
- 7:54If it costs them their, their, their lifestyle of, of having a,
- 7:58of being a police officer, of, of having power, of having a way to provide for their family.
- 8:04They, I just, I, and it's not always the case.
- 8:07Everybody's different. And it's not, it's not blanket all the cross,
- 8:10but it seems like they will all, they will flip and they will go with whatever
- 8:15the, the winds in the, the, we just saw. it in COVID.
- 8:19We saw it in COVID that the officers were the quickest ones to just,
- 8:23we're going to obey the state. We're going to do what the state says.
- 8:27And we're going to just shut down everything.
- 8:29Whereas it's like, really, was that absolutely necessary?
- 8:33And, and they just, they, they're called to obey orders.
- 8:36And I guess, I guess that's what they do. And that's their, their way of their
- 8:40get out of jail free card that they were obeying.
- 8:43We're obeying someone, you know, that it's just, it goes with any authority
- 8:46position, you know, and anything can devolve into the, the best officers in the world can, can go,
- 8:54their morals can completely be compromised if they just give into whatever the
- 9:01current society and culture is and their higher ups are telling them.
- 9:05So that I think, but we're going to find out more about this.
- 9:07This is pretty wild. I mean, it seems like we're kind of, it's nonstop.
- 9:11This is stuff is always happening.
- 9:12So, but more stuff, more will come out. I'm sure.
- 9:16All right. Follow me on X and Instagram and have a great day, everyone. Peace.
