- 0:00Statistically, right now, according to a quantile regression, we are basically at the bottom.
- 0:08But all it takes is another boom to pull the trend back up with pretty high confidence.
- 0:14We're going to be at 550, maybe even higher.
- 0:17The world is moving fast.
- 0:18Be prepared for, say, central banks printing money, but Bitcoin doing nothing.
- 0:24Or be prepared for central banks printing money and Bitcoin also going gangbusters.
- 0:28and Bitcoin is going to be growing on a sustainable curve.
- 0:31Global money is going to be growing on an unsustainable curve
- 0:33with a lot of interest.
- 0:35Those things are going to merge.
- 0:39I think the place to start, Matthew, is on the power law.
- 0:44Has this drop in Bitcoin price affected that?
- 0:46Is it still accurate?
- 0:48Are we on?
- 0:49We're on, man.
- 0:50We're on.
- 0:50All right.
- 0:54Yes.
- 0:55I don't want to throw off your first question,
- 0:57because I actually want to start on money supply
- 0:59rather than power law.
- 1:01I have charts ready.
- 1:01Oh, let's just start again then.
- 1:01And we will.
- 1:02No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:03It's good.
- 1:04It's a good...
- 1:04We're going to do two things today,
- 1:06which I think are very important.
- 1:08As we were joking pre-show,
- 1:09it's not like there's anything going on in the world.
- 1:11So people need to back up,
- 1:13take a deep breath,
- 1:14touch grass,
- 1:16play with your kids.
- 1:18There are two things with Bitcoin
- 1:20that can really ground you,
- 1:22and I've actually been following them both
- 1:23since 2018.
- 1:25One is the power law.
- 1:26The other is the base money supply.
- 1:31Bitcoin is related to both.
- 1:33And the power law is something that what I plan to show you a little bit later, we can get into it, is when you think about all these technical charts, you know, straight lines, ABC, correction, Elliott Wave, all this stuff.
- 1:49This is always done in the context of an asset that moves exponentially.
- 1:55When I say exponentially, it means it just moves compoundingly, constantly, just like anything you think of.
- 2:00If you need a 10% return in your investment or bond yields 5%, inflation is 7%, you're losing money, whatever.
- 2:07These are sort of Bayesian calculations that everybody does every day, even though they don't know it.
- 2:13This is a, that's what exponential growth is.
- 2:18And you sort of think in probabilities, okay, am I going to be able to cover that or not?
- 2:22The thing is, with Bitcoin, it's totally different.
- 2:24is totally different.
- 2:26And so these sort of ABC corrections,
- 2:29Elliott waves, straight lines
- 2:30on a log linear chart, they don't work.
- 2:34And the reason is Bitcoin grows like a network.
- 2:37All right, so we're starting out a little bit power,
- 2:38but I want to get back to money supply.
- 2:40So very simple definition of power law.
- 2:43It's like an 80-20 rule.
- 2:45So if you think about something like Facebook,
- 2:47Amazon, Apple,
- 2:50this is a pure definition of a power law
- 2:54Those are huge nodes in the system, right?
- 2:57They're centralized, controlled nodes,
- 2:58and they have many connections, but there's a few of them.
- 3:03Okay, so there's a few gigantic nodes
- 3:05with an enormous amount of connections.
- 3:07Now, on the other end of that curve,
- 3:09or the other end of that spectrum, if you can just imagine,
- 3:12the internet has tons of websites, portals, servers,
- 3:15people have private servers, whatever.
- 3:16There are massive amounts of small nodes, right,
- 3:21with few connections.
- 3:23So many, many small nodes, few connections, few large nodes, many connections.
- 3:27That is a power law.
- 3:29And it's unique in that if you apply this concept to the growth of a financial asset, it never works.
- 3:38It just never works.
- 3:40The primary reason for that, we don't have to get too much into the math, is it's just compound interest.
- 3:44It's the way debt works.
- 3:46And usually you get this unstable result.
- 3:48You get the boom-bust cycle.
- 3:51It's really not a conspiracy.
- 3:53It's just how the math works.
- 3:54So I'll try to show you a little bit of that as well.
- 3:55It's just a boom-bust cycle.
- 3:57With the power law, what Bitcoin does,
- 4:00and it is 96% R-squared.
- 4:02It's a very good relationship.
- 4:03We'll get to it.
- 4:03I'll show you the charts.
- 4:06There is the word, there's a key word that you can think of,
- 4:09and the word is proportional.
- 4:10So Bitcoin grows proportionately to itself over time,
- 4:14unlike exponential growth, which is constant.
- 4:17And then you can also tag on something that usually happens
- 4:20with constant growth is it can be volatile
- 4:22when it gets really big, often ends in collapse or restructuring.
- 4:27Every company grows that way.
- 4:28It grows constantly.
- 4:30But with Bitcoin, it actually grows proportional to itself over time.
- 4:35So a very simple, simple example of this, and this is the number.
- 4:41This is what the power law tells us,
- 4:42is that for every 13% increase in the life of Bitcoin,
- 4:46in the life of Bitcoin, the price will double.
- 4:50that is the power law of Bitcoin.
- 4:53So that is unlike, say, a stock that gets you 10%,
- 4:58or let's say the rule of 72, it's actually 7.2%.
- 5:02So for every, a stock that is growing 10% per year,
- 5:09it will double every 7.2 years.
- 5:12That's the rule of 72.
- 5:12In its finest form, it works best around the 10% compound growth rate.
- 5:19It's a constant growth rate.
- 5:20It doesn't matter. 7.2 years later, if it's still growing at 10%, it will take another 7.2 years to double.
- 5:24That's what constant growth is.
- 5:26But with a power law with Bitcoin, it will actually, the doubling time slows down the larger the network, or you can even use this with organisms as well, with sort of caloric intake.
- 5:39There are some nice power law charts people can see online about that.
- 5:43Different organisms grow this way.
- 5:44But the bottom line is, so Bitcoin, and we can represent this with hash rate, addresses price.
- 5:51For every 13% increase in the life of Bitcoin, the price doubles.
- 5:55So Bitcoin right now is over 6,000 days old.
- 5:59I don't know exactly.
- 6:01The numbers even itself getting a little stale, maybe 6,400, something like that.
- 6:06So every 750 days or so, my math is a little bit off, but roughly 13% of that.
- 6:14750 days, i.e. two years, two years, Bitcoin's price doubles. That's the power of Bitcoin. That's
- 6:21what it is showing right now. But that percentage will always stay the same. The proportion stays
- 6:27the same, but the time itself, the raw number of days, the longer Bitcoin is around, kind of like
- 6:34think of a Lindy effect, but it's not exactly the Lindy effect definition. The longer Bitcoin is
- 6:39around, all right, the longer it will take to double. And so that is literally the measurement.
- 6:47People like to think in terms of doubling time, but Bitcoin doesn't work like the MAG7 or the
- 6:53stock market or bond yields. It just does not work that way. So bottom line is, if you think
- 6:58about this one number, I know it's kind of hard to calculate, but it's 13% and just roughly kind
- 7:03of take it to 10%, whatever. Think about how many days Bitcoin's been around, take a little bit more
- 7:09than 10% of that, that's the days left for Bitcoin from where it is right now, where the power law is
- 7:15right now for the power law to double. And it doesn't mean it's going to hit that right on the
- 7:19mark, right? I mean, you can do this at any point on the curve, but that's what the curve itself says.
- 7:24And it's very unique. And the bottom line, like the net net of all that sort of hashing out of
- 7:30the power law, which I didn't plan on going so deep into this point, but it's good, I think,
- 7:33is that it's actually quite stable.
- 7:39It's proportional.
- 7:41It's how networks grow.
- 7:43And it's going to surprise a lot of people
- 7:45because the financial world still doesn't think that way.
- 7:48It doesn't understand it.
- 7:49The financial world thinks in compound growth rates,
- 7:52regular interest rates,
- 7:53like, okay, I need to get a 10% return, this and that.
- 7:56And by the way, I guess I didn't say this number.
- 8:00Right now, that doubling every two years
- 8:02translates into a 40% CAGR, a 40% compound undergrowth. So that's an enormous return.
- 8:08It's enormous for anybody to have. It's bigger than the MAG-7, which I can show you in a second
- 8:12here. But that number is going to get smaller. It's going to get smaller. So prepare yourself
- 8:16for that. But regardless, it's a unique moment in time because to my knowledge, and I've studied,
- 8:24you know, a lot of banking, monetary history, looked at just a lot of, you know, interesting
- 8:29facets of free banking and stuff. To my knowledge, there's not an asset that has actually grown this
- 8:34way over time. It's a very, growing in power as opposed to growing in geometric or growing
- 8:42in exponential is a very stable. It's a stable sort of growth rate. Cities also grow in power,
- 8:47by the way. So just another quick side example. You know, the reason like cities don't explode
- 8:54into the sun with skyscrapers going, you know, million miles high, like the sci-fi movies,
- 9:00right, into space or whatever. The reason they're not doing that is because you don't need all the
- 9:06infrastructure in a city that you would need for a regular person, like living out in the countryside.
- 9:11So you don't need as many parking spaces in the city for as many people as there are there. You
- 9:16have public transport, you have, you know, the distribution of water and electricity is completely
- 9:21different in a city than it is out to, you know, some one farmer living in the countryside. So you
- 9:27had this interesting effect. And the bottom line is with city growth is, yes, it is true that back
- 9:35in the old days, like hundreds of years ago, when I say the old days, or even in ancient times,
- 9:40cities actually grew pretty fast at the beginning, just like Bitcoin. They grew very, very fast.
- 9:45You know, when Paris was a greenfield or London was a greenfield, it's growing very, very fast.
- 9:48the Romans colonized London, it's growing faster. But then over time, that growth slows.
- 9:54And so if you had actually, and there have been charts of this, like look up
- 9:57long-term growth of London or Paris, of any city, and you will see this power curve. You will see a
- 10:03very fast growth at the beginning, and then a more sustainable, gradual, sort of slower rate of
- 10:08growth as it goes forward. So that's what Bitcoin does. Bitcoin grows like that.
- 10:14If you already self-custody Bitcoin, you know the deal with hardware wallets.
- 10:18complex setups clumsy interfaces and a seed phrase that can be lost stolen or forgotten
- 10:23well bitkey fixes that bitkey is a multi-sig hardware wallet built by the team behind square
- 10:28and cash app it packs a cryptographic recovery system and built-in inheritance feature into an
- 10:33intuitive easy to use wallet with no seed phrase to sweat over it's simple secure self-custody
- 10:38without the stress and time named bitkey one of the best inventions of 2024 get 20 off at bitkey.world

- 12:16I recently took out a loan with Ledin.
- 12:18The whole process was super easy.
- 12:20The application took me less than 15 minutes.
- 12:22And in a few hours, I had the dollars in my account.
- 12:24It was super smooth.
- 12:26So if you need cash, but you don't want to sell Bitcoin,

- 12:31and you'll get 0.25% off your first loan.
- 12:34That's L-E-D-N dot I-O forward slash WBD.
- 12:38so how far below what power law dictates as being the sort of fair price are we right now because
- 12:44um like bitcoin certainly feels very good value right now and and is there ever a time when you
- 12:49would say okay the power law is wrong is broken uh no so let's let's get on let's get on to the
- 12:57charts here all right so here is the power law of bitcoin this is one of the things that i used to
- 13:06show a lot was this the how the price looks over under the curve at any given time.
- 13:12A couple things to point out. All right. First of all, go down here. See, it's a 96.1% R squared.
- 13:18All right. So that means that this black line itself, the price moves around this black line,
- 13:2296.1% better with less variance than would move around the average, which should be obvious
- 13:27because it's a nonlinear growth. Notice, though, this is a log linear chart. Okay. So people in
- 13:35financially be familiar with that, except the fact is, if you put a log linear chart on any
- 13:39financial asset, it's going to turn into a straight line, typically. Here, you have this sort of
- 13:44pretty, it looks pretty gradual, but you know, you can say it's a little bit faster at the beginning,
- 13:49and then you can see as we move into the future, it sort of tapers out. Now, a couple things to
- 13:55think about, and I'll show you, I'm going to show you two different types of regressions here,
- 13:59and this is, as well, people are going to get access, a lot of people ask me about these charts,
- 14:03I've been working hard to give people access to this.
- 14:05So it's coming in the next month or two.
- 14:07But finally, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:10It's going to be good.
- 14:11It's going to be really good.
- 14:12Cloud Code is actually taking me to a different level here.
- 14:15It's you talk about the SaaSpocalypse and stuff.
- 14:17I mean, some of the stuff that I can do now, again, with pretty, pretty much all free and
- 14:22open data is like, in my opinion, miles better than you could get from like paying $2,000
- 14:27a month on Bloomberg or whatever.
- 14:28So it's pretty wild.
- 14:30But in any event, notice we're pretty far under the curve right now.
- 14:34But notice these other bands, okay?
- 14:37So this is, I show this as a sort of just a general guide,
- 14:44but actually this analysis is not great.
- 14:46I'm talking about these bands where what I'm doing basically is I'm analyzing,
- 14:51okay, what percentile or what percentage of the time would Bitcoin as a multiple be over or under the curve?
- 14:58And so if you just look back,
- 14:59you see that these bands are very close at the beginning,
- 15:01but then they expand, right?
- 15:04So what's happening there is as more data comes in,
- 15:08we can see, you know,
- 15:11if there are any extreme moves over or under the trend line.
- 15:15And of course, the trend line at the time,
- 15:17I'll just take some of these bands off just to show you.
- 15:19The trend line at the time was not this nice, smooth black line.
- 15:22It was actually this gray line.
- 15:25All right, so it's just sort of,
- 15:28A little bit of some bugs there, but you can see that it's generally growing pretty fast,
- 15:36but this black line sort of shows how it's sort of settled down over time.
- 15:43Okay, but then we want to see, okay, so where are we now,
- 15:46and how would that compare to the past?
- 15:49Well, we can do this thing where look in the tooltip there.
- 15:51You see how already by 2011, the Q100 or the 100th percentile, you see it's, right, these are very small Bitcoin prices, right?
- 16:02$7 Bitcoin.
- 16:03But already there, relative to the power curve, you see 7.7x on the 100th percentile.
- 16:09You see that?
- 16:10And on the zeroth percentile, you see 0.4x, which is actually 0.001.
- 16:16basically as low as you can get below the trend line,
- 16:22you see 0.4x.
- 16:24So what that's saying is already in 2011,
- 16:28getting 60% below trend or 7.7x above trend
- 16:32is as good as it gets.
- 16:37And actually, I need to go a little bit further out.
- 16:39It's really 2012, say.
- 16:41Now the 0.0 is 0.1x.
- 16:43So a 90% discount from the power curve
- 16:45or a 7.7x premium.
- 16:48Now, as we go forward,
- 16:49just look at those two bands.
- 16:51Let me even take this out.
- 16:53I'm talking about the extreme bands.
- 16:56You see how they don't change?
- 16:587.7x, 0.1x.
- 17:00Doesn't matter.
- 17:01The price is happening.
- 17:02Okay, so that's pretty interesting,
- 17:04first of all.
- 17:05And it shows that
- 17:05you can even see with the 2017 boom,
- 17:09the 2021 boom,
- 17:10there's really no chance on log scale
- 17:12you could see that we were going to hit those numbers.
- 17:14All right, if you look back,
- 17:15if you did this analysis.
- 17:17In 2017, it got relatively close.
- 17:20It got close.
- 17:21You're right.
- 17:22But 2021 was not relatively close.
- 17:25Okay.
- 17:25So you see 20,
- 17:26and you got to find other bands to get close.
- 17:28So they did get above the 90th on both ones,
- 17:30which is about 2X.
- 17:32And by the way,
- 17:33I was having fun with my,
- 17:34you know,
- 17:35so I'm streaming this stuff every day.
- 17:36And I was,
- 17:36I was enjoying theorizing back in like June of last year
- 17:41that, you know,
- 17:42okay, so we're going to,
- 17:45we're going to be counting the days that we're going to be above the 90th percentile,
- 17:47which is 2x the trend.
- 17:49Like, this is really great.
- 17:50We're gearing up.
- 17:52All right.
- 17:52But what I did not, and what I say I'm pretty proud of, actually,
- 17:56because I try to do not too much bombast in my predictions.
- 17:59And as the summer was going into the fall,
- 18:03and we were just hanging around the power trend,
- 18:05and people were getting really bullish,
- 18:07everybody's saying the four-year cycle is over.
- 18:09This is a new world for Bitcoin,
- 18:11but they didn't really quite describe the new world
- 18:13other than there were a lot of ETFs buying Bitcoin, I noticed that we're starting to now go back under
- 18:19the power curve and it's not looking very good. And so I said, look, it is a weird cycle. We haven't
- 18:25boomed up to the 90th like we did in all prior cycles. We haven't even gotten close to the 100th,
- 18:30let alone 2x the power trend. We haven't gotten 7x. And by the way, just to put numbers, by the way,
- 18:35the power trend back last year at this time I'm talking about is about 100,000. So it was $100,000
- 18:42and Bitcoin was around that.
- 18:43We were just bouncing along the power trend all last year.
- 18:46So I was saying, okay, this possible.
- 18:50I think we can get up to the 90th.
- 18:52It's going to be fun.
- 18:53It's going to be an interesting fall.
- 18:54Let's count the days, the four-year cycle.
- 18:57I'm a simple guy.
- 18:58Let's not fix what's not broken.
- 19:00Here, it's coming, right?
- 19:02And it didn come And yet all if you remember Dan I sure you talked to plenty of them A lot of the commentator says you know four cycle over Yeah four cycle over It a new
- 19:12world. They didn't quite, a lot of these people who said the four-year cycle's over, by the way,
- 19:16were not power trend followers. So they say, you know, it's a new world, a global adoption of
- 19:21Bitcoin, this and this and that. And meanwhile, I'm watching it in October go under trend and
- 19:27pretty steeply. And so I said specifically, and I'm not saying this is a huge win because I really
- 19:33don't like I don't try to predict the future. But what I do want to show to your listeners and
- 19:37viewers is we can look at the relative risk. I said is in like October, November, I said it a
- 19:42lot. I said, I'm not going to say the four year cycles over until like February, January, February,
- 19:47where we're all of a sudden at 160,000, right? Where we're way above the power trend to show me
- 19:53that this is something different.
- 19:55And lo and behold,
- 19:57it's that fifth year,
- 20:00or the first year of a new cycle,
- 20:02if you want to end the cycle on the top.
- 20:04We're in 2026 here,
- 20:06and we're well below the power trend.
- 20:09So in my opinion, actually,
- 20:10the four-year cycle is completely intact,
- 20:12hasn't broken.
- 20:13I'm not saying it cannot not break,
- 20:16but it's completely intact.
- 20:18The funny thing there, though,
- 20:19is I was one of the people that,
- 20:21I kind of bought the narrative
- 20:23that the four-year cycle might be over.
- 20:24And loads of reasons,
- 20:25one being just the dynamics of the market
- 20:27definitely changed.
- 20:28But if you zoom out a little bit,
- 20:30you can also see that this cycle
- 20:32did look different in the run-up to it.
- 20:34I think the closest comparison
- 20:37would be maybe that 2014 to 2016 period
- 20:40where it's just like a slow grind.
- 20:42There wasn't really any big runs up in price.
- 20:45It did seem different, I think.
- 20:49I agree with you.
- 20:50And this is the other thing about Bitcoin, right?
- 20:52It's like, well, there's so many nice memes.
- 20:56I think everyone gets the price they deserve
- 20:58is the best meme.
- 20:59And Bitcoiners are going to really be enjoying that meme,
- 21:02you know, five, 10 years from now.
- 21:05But yeah, who said it was going to be easy, right?
- 21:09Like 2021 was kind of confusing
- 21:10because that first top,
- 21:12which was really the real top,
- 21:13was booming in,
- 21:15and I have a few other indications
- 21:16that show it was the real top was March of 2021.
- 21:19You know, that was early, right?
- 21:20The prior tops came in November, December.
- 21:22and then we had the double top
- 21:25and then we still went down.
- 21:26Same with this time.
- 21:28We had the ETFs approval in January 2024
- 21:30and so all of a sudden we're back at the power curve
- 21:34when actually that could have taken a long time,
- 21:37like you said, in 2015, 2016
- 21:39or, you know, again,
- 21:41no cycle's completely identical, that's for sure.
- 21:44Everybody needs to be clear on that.
- 21:45But this is the beauty of the power curve actually
- 21:48is it can ground you in what Bitcoin is actually doing
- 21:52and you can completely, completely avoid the YouTube thumbnails that tell you that you better
- 22:00watch this video or Bitcoin, you know, the world is going to end and Bitcoin's going to
- 22:03100,000 before you buy it or 60,000 sell it. It's just absolute nonsense. And these people are,
- 22:11they do not have a concept of what the power curve is actually saying Bitcoin's doing.
- 22:16But can you believe in the power curve and the four-year cycle at the same time? Because the
- 22:19power curve would say that cycles will become elongated all the time. Is that not right?
- 22:25No. There are a few different theories on, if you want to say elongated, but what the power
- 22:33curve will say is that the cycles will become dampened over time. Dampened. This is actually
- 22:38the point that I'm getting to. They will not necessarily become elongated or shortened or
- 22:42whatever, but the volatility will become less. And so that's actually what I'm trying to show
- 22:47right here. Look at, all right, we've looked at this chart now for a while as we've talked through
- 22:52it. It's very unlikely. Now, you have to think of statistics now. In all of Bitcoin's history,
- 23:01all right, the huge moves above the trend at the time, getting to 6, 7, 8x, the power trend,
- 23:09that happened all the way back in 2011. 2017 was close, like you said, and we did get above the 9,
- 23:14the 90th, but not above the 100th. And again, the 90th is 2x, but not even close to 7x. 2021,
- 23:21not even close to 7x. So I had it totally in mind that we were not going to get 6x, 7x last year
- 23:27when people were making their crazy predictions and also saying the cycle's over. But I did think
- 23:31possible because it happened in every prior cycle, we could have gotten to the 90th.
- 23:35That didn't happen either. Okay. So let's reevaluate our priors. Let's just see where we are.
- 23:40we're still on the four-year cycle it's totally intact i'll show you some more charts for the
- 23:45four-year cycle but i want to i don't want to focus too much on the four-year right now
- 23:48but look at so this is this is different than an exponential chart and i'll show you
- 23:56like apple for example as a comparison but as we can see the price if you just sort of
- 24:04see how it moves around these bands the price itself as we move up the curve is getting closer
- 24:09and closer to the black line over time.
- 24:11Yeah, it still has big moves.
- 24:13We're in a big move down right now.
- 24:15But it's getting closer and closer to the black line.
- 24:17It's not getting further away.
- 24:19It's not getting up to the 7, 8x.
- 24:21It's not getting down to the 0.1x,
- 24:24which will be $15,000 right now, right?
- 24:27To get even to the 10th percentile of a multiple,
- 24:31which is 0.3x, right?
- 24:33That would be 40,000.
- 24:36And the last time we would even have been close
- 24:38to that multiple would have been the scam, bank, and fraud puking of 2022. And there,
- 24:46the 10th was 13, 13, 14,000. We didn't get there either. All right. So you'd have to go all the way
- 24:52back to 2015 to where we hit that multiple. So just look, just, you know, just marinate on that
- 24:58chart now and look how the green line is not going farther away from the black line. It's getting
- 25:03closer. It's having less variance, less volatility. And that's a good thing. That's reaffirming what
- 25:11the power curve is actually showing, which is proportional stable growth. What do you got to
- 25:16say to that? I mean, it's super interesting. And really, the most interesting thing looking at this
- 25:22is that we're at like 60 something K right now. And it looks like there's not many times in the
- 25:28past that it's been this low. So do you think we are hammering out of bottom sort of where we are
- 25:32right now. I do. I do. Again, anything is possible. But there are two different ways to look at it.
- 25:37Now I want to show you a different regression. So as you see in the title here, it says evolving
- 25:43regression power. Okay. So what I mean with the evolving is just what I was talking about. Like,
- 25:48let's find the max over under plot that figure out, you know, where that is relative to future
- 25:55moves. And the point is, you can see, it's actually not great. It's not even that helpful,
- 26:00other than just to say it's not going to get there.
- 26:03And when I say not going to get there,
- 26:04I'm speaking statistically.
- 26:06It's extremely unlikely that the price
- 26:09is going to go to 0.1x the trend, i.e. 15K right now.
- 26:12And it's also extremely unlikely
- 26:14the price is going to go 7.8x the trend,
- 26:17i.e. a million right now at this moment.
- 26:20So having said that, let's look at the other one.
- 26:22Now this is a quantile regression straight up,
- 26:25not evolving.
- 26:26So here I can get these nice parallel lines.
- 26:28What does that mean?
- 26:29Right. So happening here, actually parallel was the wrong word, straight like these smooth lines and they're not parallel. But what they are having, what they are doing here is I'm taking each each each data point basically in the chart is analyzed relative to all the others.
- 26:49and then you try to do your own sort of mini regression in that range.
- 26:54Okay?
- 26:55So what I'm saying is I'm not, the governor here is not like this one,
- 27:00how far above or under the price am I?
- 27:02Am I 7x, 8x?
- 27:03No.
- 27:04The governor is relative to all the other points,
- 27:08can I just draw kind of different ranges of this black line?
- 27:12The black line is the OLS or narrowly squares.
- 27:14So like here, you see the black line is usually like,
- 27:18it's not exactly in the middle.
- 27:18It's actually close to two thirds.
- 27:21The median is the Q50.
- 27:23So this is, you'll see the difference here.
- 27:24I'll zoom in.
- 27:25They're a little bit different.
- 27:27Okay.
- 27:29So the OLS is 130.
- 27:30The median is 120.
- 27:31You see we're well below that.
- 27:33But then as I draw all the other bands,
- 27:36they have what's called a pseudo,
- 27:38like a pseudo R squared to measure them.
- 27:40The point is, none of this is, you know,
- 27:43it's all statistics.
- 27:44It's not gospel.
- 27:45But we can actually get even tighter bands.
- 27:47Notice how they're tighter, right, than this one.
- 27:50With this one, the Q100, the Q0, like way off.
- 27:54I'm trying to view this in linear space, right, with a simple multiplication when it's not.
- 28:00If we were in our old school ABC correction, Elliott wave, lines on charts, everything moves exponentially, this model would work.
- 28:10And I'll show you that.
- 28:11Doing these simple multiplication figures, right, that over or under trend.
- 28:17but it doesn't work with a power curve.
- 28:18It doesn't work as well.
- 28:19Now I do it, like I said,
- 28:20I still do it as an analysis to show you generally,
- 28:23okay, this is what 2x the trend is.
- 28:24This is where the line is.
- 28:26But you can see it's less helpful.
- 28:29This is the point I'm trying to drive home.
- 28:30It's less helpful as we move forward
- 28:32because all we can really say
- 28:35is these lines are not going to get hit, right?
- 28:36There's just no way.
- 28:38But here, here is more helpful.
- 28:40All right, so this is where we do
- 28:41individual regressions on every point
- 28:45and then we just draw the lines out.
- 28:47And they're not parallel,
- 28:49which my multiplication lines were parallel,
- 28:52but they sort of, they converge on each other.
- 28:54They trace that lack of deviation, right?
- 28:59They trace that sort of less, not lack of,
- 29:02but less deviation that happens around the trend.
- 29:05And so what you see is they start to converge on each other.
- 29:08And this is even more helpful, I would say,
- 29:10to show us where a top and where a bottom is.
- 29:11So let's go back.
- 29:13If anyone's listening to this on podcasts, I'm sorry,
- 29:15you're going to have to go to the YouTube.
- 29:16I'll put the video on Spotify as well.
- 29:18You kind of need to see this one.
- 29:20The first 10, 15 minutes talking about the power curve,
- 29:23hopefully it was helpful.
- 29:24But yeah, it really does help to watch the video with this stuff.
- 29:29So now you can see in 2017, we hit it.
- 29:34All right.
- 29:34We still like hit the 100th percentile.
- 29:37We did not in 2021.
- 29:41But still, these curves are now closer.
- 29:43And back to the 2022.
- 29:44I'll just switch back so you can keep seeing.
- 29:472022, notice the 10th, the 0th was way far away.
- 29:51The 10th percentile, which in this model would be 13, 14,000.
- 29:57We still didn't hit in 2022, but now we are hitting the 0th in 2022 here.
- 30:02So we are getting, we are painting bottoms.
- 30:06Statistically, this is a much better chart.
- 30:09Okay, it's much better.
- 30:10And notice, by the way, notice how the multiples are different.
- 30:12I show the multiples here too.
- 30:13so this is now the multiple of price relative to the trend that you see and as you see
- 30:19it's declining they decline they all decline they get smaller which is a good thing this is
- 30:25this is a helpful model so this is only something you can do on a power curve that's what i'm gonna
- 30:30say you can't apply this method but it's it's gonna be different with an exponential curve okay
- 30:35so so with with a power curve doing a quantile regression this way is uh probably the best
- 30:40statistical way. Do you want to pay less in taxes and stack more Bitcoin? Of course you do. Well,
- 30:46by mining Bitcoin with Blockware, you can. Under section 168k of the US tax code, Bitcoin mining
- 30:52servers qualify for 100% bonus depreciation. This means every dollar you spend on miners can directly
- 30:59offset your income in a single year. And that's true for both business owners and W-2 earners.
- 31:04If you have $100,000 in ordinary income, you can purchase $100,000 of miners and potentially offset
- 31:10your tax liability entirely. Blockware's mining as a service does the heavy lifting. They secure
- 31:15the rigs, they source the low-cost power, and they handle all the day-to-day maintenance.
- 31:20Use that Bitcoin every single day while drastically shrinking your tax bill.

- 32:15If you haven't tried out Club Orange yet,
- 32:16then now is the time.
- 32:18It's my go-to place to find Bitcoiners
- 32:19whenever I'm traveling.
- 32:21Club Orange is a social app built for Bitcoiners
- 32:23where you can find meetups and events in your area
- 32:25and find merchants that are accepting Bitcoin.
- 32:28There are over 19,000 Bitcoiners on there
- 32:30and whether you're at home or traveling,
- 32:32it's a great place to keep in touch with Bitcoiners
- 32:34from all over the world.
- 32:35I've been using Club Orange since it was Orange Pill app
- 32:38and it really is awesome.
- 32:39So if you're on there,
- 32:40drop me a DM and say hi.
- 32:41And if you want to find out more
- 32:42and download the app,
- 32:44just search for Club Orange
- 32:45on your app store
- 32:45or go to cluborange.org.
- 32:48But the interesting thing there
- 32:49is like on the other one,
- 32:50other chart you were pulling up,
- 32:52the percentile multiple,
- 32:53it looked like we were
- 32:54probably close to a bottom,
- 32:56but there was still some room to go.
- 32:58Whereas on this chart,
- 32:59it looks like we're hitting
- 33:00the absolute bottom.
- 33:02Right, right, exactly.
- 33:03And so you have to kind of guess,
- 33:06you have to think,
- 33:07okay, so hopefully we're not going to set some crazy low, but it looks pretty, you know, it still
- 33:14looks low, but we're not, we're not quite sure here. We're scraping the bottom. Now, again,
- 33:19to be clear, this is just statistics. Anything can happen, whatever. Um, but statistically right
- 33:25now, according to a quantile regression of Bitcoin's price relative to the power curve,
- 33:30we are basically at the bottom. I mean, 63 K as cheap as Bitcoin gas. Yeah. Relative to the power
- 33:37trend this is as cheap as it gets and that's the key message that's the key point like yeah could
- 33:42it drop another leg down yeah but that's not going to break the power curve it's just going to pull
- 33:46this zero with line you know it's just going to slant its its tilt a little bit and the nice thing
- 33:52about this analysis by the way danny as opposed to the other one is these lines move independently
- 33:56of each other right with this one my multiple percentile multiple it's it's it's it's all about
- 34:04the multiple at the end of the day so the max multiple is what stays and that's what keeps this
- 34:07thing parallel it doesn't happen here they move independent and we can sort of see okay what could
- 34:12be a more realistic thing so in my opinion yes and again always never financial advice but this is
- 34:20relative to bitcoin's you know 6 500 day history whatever it is we are at
- 34:29as cheap as you can can get relative to the power curve relative to the bitcoin trend
- 34:34itself. That happened in 2022. It did not even happen in 2020. Although probably that was closer
- 34:47because this got pulled down further. This is also a thing you can't show it how it evolved, but
- 34:51it was probably closer in 2020 during that scare. And then really, you'd have to go back to like the
- 34:59most thin days of Bitcoin trading to put these sort of multiples in. So that's where we are.
- 35:06And I would say, you know, if you look at this chart, we're going to look at others. If you
- 35:10still want to tell me that the four-year cycle doesn't have some interesting impact here,
- 35:14I would say, you know, investigate your priors again. I mean, this is,
- 35:18we have hit these types of bottoms at every prior four-year cycle. What is different? Yes,
- 35:24we didn't have as high a high as last year as we talked about. What's also different is we have
- 35:29scream down towards the bottom. All right. So in the last cycles, as most people might remember,
- 35:35it took like a year, right? From 2017 to the year to bottom in December, 2018,
- 35:402021, it took a year, November, December, 2022. Now we have done this in a matter of months.
- 35:47Yes, we didn't have a huge top and it was even a little bit earlier, October,
- 35:50but now here we are in February. And this is where I'd say I'm very proud of this analysis.
- 35:57This is something that really affirmed what I was saying.
- 35:59I couldn't tell you it was going to happen,
- 36:01but I was saying, you know,
- 36:03let's just hold off on this sort of prognosticating
- 36:07how Bitcoin's going to do something way different
- 36:08than it did in the past.
- 36:11I'll believe that if January, February,
- 36:14we're at like, you know, over 100,000.
- 36:16And look where we are.
- 36:17We're totally following prior cycles.
- 36:20Why do you think we're still trending
- 36:22quite far below that power law line,
- 36:25but we're not really going above it in the bull markets.
- 36:32Ah, okay.
- 36:33So I don't know the exact answer,
- 36:37but I can show you an interesting chart
- 36:39that would say we're actually not at the lowest.
- 36:42Okay, so this is a cool chart right here.
- 36:45What I'm showing you is,
- 36:47let's see, you can take the forecast off.
- 36:48So here's the old power curve.
- 36:50And this is that gray line that I showed you before.
- 36:52So at any given time, the power curve,
- 36:53It's not a beautiful, you know, the line that you can draw after all time data.
- 36:58But it's, you know, it does settle down and it goes to your question.
- 37:04More of it.
- 37:05In fact, two thirds of the time, we're under this green line that above it.
- 37:09That's just the nature of what the Bitcoin power law does.
- 37:12OK, so it generally tends to pull it down.
- 37:15But what's cool is we're not at a low even right or right here.
- 37:19Right now, we are not at a low.
- 37:20So to show that, you actually have to do an interesting analysis here.
- 37:23And again, this is where I can think.
- 37:25I used to do this like on a monthly basis by hand.
- 37:27It was more difficult.
- 37:29But now with the magic of AI, I can do a lot more quicker.
- 37:34But I could show you every day's forecast of what the power trend would predict today's price to be.
- 37:43February, sorry, March 2nd.
- 37:45March 2nd, happy spring.
- 37:47March 2nd, 2026.
- 37:50All right, so what you see on this blue line
- 37:52was the prediction of the price
- 37:54based on the Bitcoin data at the time
- 37:56in March 2nd, 2026.
- 38:00All right, so you'll notice in the early years,
- 38:02like I said, when we're way sort of booming,
- 38:05you get some crazy prices.
- 38:07All right you not reading this wrong billion Basically you know the June 2011 peak when it went up to This was just around the first empty Gox hacking The power curve and no one was looking at this at the time
- 38:26Trolololo was a famous Bitcoin talk poster, which is what I modeled my data off of. He was thinking
- 38:32that it was a logarithmic curve, which is a little bit different, even more explosive at the
- 38:35beginning. Any event, it's not how it's working now. If you did a power curve regression at the
- 38:41time, it would have predicted March 2nd, 2026, $68 billion Bitcoin. Didn't happen. We had to wait
- 38:48till we sort of settled into the data. And that happened really around 2016. All right. So Giovanni,
- 38:55the Italian who is big on the power law, he did it a couple months before me. I did it in
- 39:01December 2018. That's when I first noticed it. And then again, anybody can calculate it now.
- 39:08It's very easy. But right around that time, if you start to look at the forecasted price at any
- 39:13given time, it's pretty close to today's power curve. It is higher. All right. Notice 170K,
- 39:20190K, it's higher. And it will get pulled down. As you noticed, and as I said, two-thirds of the
- 39:26time, price is actually under the OLS. So we get pulled down, pulled down all the way to 130.
- 39:32All right. So 130 is the number right now. And indeed, we're, you know, 50% under that. So it's
- 39:37this huge buying opportunity, in my opinion. But let's look if that's actually the lowest,
- 39:43except for, of course, the first like few months of data, the actual lowest painted value
- 39:49is we have to go all the way here
- 39:52after the crypto winter, as they call it,
- 39:55to May 2017.
- 39:58See what it's starting to show there?
- 40:00125, 124.
- 40:02Yeah, 124, 125.
- 40:05So it's very interesting.
- 40:06What it's saying is
- 40:07we actually have about $5,000, $6,000 worth of room
- 40:12to spare before this lower-than-trend price
- 40:19action sort of pulls, you know, so we set a record low. And I would actually say that's a bullish
- 40:25indicator. That's a bullish indicator. It doesn't mean, again, the power curve is over if we set a
- 40:29record low. It just means, think about what that means. It means the curve doesn't always move
- 40:36lower. Yeah, it always adjusts every day. This is not a stock to flow, you know, fix sort of thing.
- 40:40This, it always adjusts the price, but it doesn't, you know, we are not at the all-time low here,
- 40:47which is good and another thing to think about that is so how do i reconcile this uh again think
- 40:55about how crazy that was the price in may 2017 was one thousand seven hundred dollars per bitcoin
- 41:00it predicted and when i say predict i'm very it's a very statistical term i'm saying it doesn't know
- 41:07the future but it projected 124 000 bitcoin by march 2nd 2026 it's remarkable it's a remarkable
- 41:15Yeah. And so the other thing to think about is, OK, so it says 124. Now we're 130, but we're pulling the power curve down every day because we're under it. That's true. But there's also another force, which is the curve itself moving upward. The curve itself moves up $100 a day. So, again, I can't tell you how the math works out. They just have to observe it and see.
- 41:37but if somehow we went into like super bearish mode
- 41:41which I again I can't quite see
- 41:43especially with all the geopolitical tensions in the world
- 41:46but we go to some super crazy bearish mode
- 41:48and the price stays at like the zeroeth
- 41:51the tenth percentile
- 41:53for a long time
- 41:55then it is true it's possible we could like threaten
- 41:58this sort of all-time low level
- 41:59but this is this remains
- 42:02this is one of my favorite data points
- 42:04and it just sort of shows like
- 42:05we're
- 42:07we're not as bad as it's ever been as far as the power curve, which is bullish. That is bullish.
- 42:13And it just shows, I think, the strength of where this curve is. And after all that diatribe, I hope
- 42:18it kind of gets to your question of, you know, why is the price always below the curve or whatever?
- 42:23It is true. It's below it two thirds of the time, but that's just the nature of the distribution.
- 42:28It can also pull the curve up when we get to the boom phases. So you just have to look and see
- 42:32where it goes. So you know what my next question is going to be. So if the four-year cycle is still
- 42:37real, by like 2029, what price is this predicting or projecting that we're going to be at?
- 42:44Sure. So let's go back to the quantile. That's the best way to look at it. Let's go to the end
- 42:48of the decade. We're about 550. Okay. So I'll take it. If you notice, oops, sorry, that's 2029.
- 42:58and notice the
- 43:01difference
- 43:02some people say end of the decade
- 43:06is 2029
- 43:07some people say 2030
- 43:08let's go to 2029 just to show you the difference in a year
- 43:12by the way so 2029
- 43:13the highest
- 43:15quantiles 550, 400
- 43:17the OLS itself 235
- 43:19but then let's just go out one more year
- 43:21end of year 2030
- 43:24OLS 544
- 43:285.50
- 43:295.44 on December 27,
- 43:322030. And let's say the
- 43:34Q50, which would be the median, 5.16
- 43:36Q60,
- 43:38500. So again, pretty remarkable
- 43:40numbers. And
- 43:42that
- 43:44number, that 5.50 number
- 43:46has been there for a long time.
- 43:48I've been talking about
- 43:50this on streams and projecting it
- 43:52for a while. It has been
- 43:54pulled down during those boom years of
- 43:562021. And even though the curve was being pulled down, you still would be projecting by 2030,
- 44:02December, like 590, 600,000. Now we're down to 550. So again, that's another example. It does
- 44:08get pulled down, but all it takes is another boom or just, you know, another crop of people to find
- 44:16the wonders of Bitcoin to pull the trend back up or back to a higher, you know, sort of level than
- 44:21it was. So I would say with pretty high confidence, we're going to be at 550, maybe even higher by
- 44:282030. Hey, I will take 550 by 2030. That sounds all right to me, Matthew. It sounds all right.
- 44:34We still haven't gotten a money supply, but, and I want to skip it. That's fine. It's good to-
- 44:38No, we can't skip money supply. I want to do money supply. We've done a 45 minute tangent
- 44:42there on power law. No, no, it's good. Let's stick on the four-year cycle for a second.
- 44:46This is a very checkmatey chart.
- 44:50You can get this at Bitcoin Lab.
- 44:51A lot of great charts there.
- 44:54Some of them costs, which I do pay for,
- 44:56but I don't know if this is one.
- 44:58So hodlers and loss versus hodlers and profit.
- 45:02I'm going to take off short term just to look at long term.
- 45:04I think this pretty much shows what's happening.
- 45:08So this is UTXOs, right?
- 45:10So this is pieces of Bitcoin.
- 45:12Who's in loss?
- 45:12Who's in profit?
- 45:13Straight up.
- 45:14Very simple.
- 45:14let's ignore the
- 45:182013, although you can see
- 45:20red certainly grows, but basically
- 45:22every time we go into that year of bust
- 45:25after the boom,
- 45:26you get a lot of red.
- 45:29Percentage-wise,
- 45:32if you count long and short-term,
- 45:34it can get even to 50% or 40%.
- 45:37It's a little bit less if you look
- 45:38at only long-term,
- 45:41but you can see that
- 45:41just like there's a period of deep red before the market bottoms out.
- 45:47Lo and behold, where are we right now?
- 45:50I mean, I would say, again, this is where I am super bullish long term,
- 45:53but this is where you just got to look at the numbers
- 45:55and think about what's happening here.
- 45:57I mean, this could go lower, right?
- 46:00This could go lower.
- 46:02And even if it's not lower,
- 46:04I think one of the things that looks obvious from this is
- 46:06it's going to go longer at the very least.
- 46:09Yeah.
- 46:09Yeah.
- 46:10that's probably even a more precise better answer it might not go lower but can go longer
- 46:14and in my opinion you just can't look at this and say the four-year cycle is is that so yeah we hit
- 46:21this quicker yeah we didn't have as high of a boom last year but you know in any market if you hit
- 46:28your revenue by 50 which is what happens in the bitcoin market every four years it's going to
- 46:33affect it it's going to affect it and it takes a while to catch up so let me just put this on
- 46:38percentage again just to show you so here we go the the first two busts long-term hodlers in profit
- 46:47and loss deep right 80 70 the next two 40 40 percent in loss and here where are we right now
- 47:00just to show you we're at this is long-term now this is not short and long-term just long-term
- 47:04of hot levels, it was over 155 days. We're at 2080. And again, you'd expect that number to
- 47:10continually drop, right? The longer people have held coins. Right. It would be less, less of a
- 47:16fall, which it has been, right? So it used to be 80% and 50 or 40. Now it's totally possible.
- 47:22This could maybe only bottom at 30, but I just don't know the number. I don't think anybody does.
- 47:27You have to, yeah, you can, we could do percentiles on this, by the way. I haven't done it yet. I've
- 47:31planned on it, but I would say lower and longer, honestly. So this is where I would caution
- 47:36sort of the bullish optimism we've been talking about. It's just, you know, we're just under the
- 47:41curve and it takes time to play out no matter how many ETFs, you know, are accumulating Bitcoin.
- 47:46It could come faster than prior cycles, but it's, this chart shows pretty clearly a four-year cycle
- 47:52to me. This chart shows pretty clearly it's a good time to be stacking some SaaS.
- 47:56Yeah, yeah, definitely. You want to do money supply? Let's do it. Let's do money supply. All right. So another thing, just to remind people that don't know who I am, in 2018, I also published a survey of the global monetary base. So I do that every quarter still. And as this little chart engine that I'm making continues to evolve, people will get access to that like every day in a nice format.
- 48:23that. But the thing about money supply is you'll also see a lot of hype here. And I just want to
- 48:30try to remind people, you just don't believe the hype. You have to be careful with the hype. Okay,
- 48:36so I'm going to show you. Here's the Federal Reserve's balance sheet, just the Fed, just the
- 48:40central bank of the United States. This is the craziness after the global financial crisis,
- 48:43right? They flooded the system with money to not let any of the zombie banks go out, except for
- 48:48Lehman. And Bitcoin was also born during this time. So Bitcoin on log scale, central bank is
- 48:54on linear scale. The green is the actual bank note. So you see the money supply always increases.
- 49:01And the blue, primarily the big blue number, that is the bank reserves. That is basically the
- 49:06digital money that banks have. Usually they don't want to hold it. But in this case,
- 49:13they did want to hold it because the system was so fragile. The Fed said,
- 49:17We're not going to let, you know, you guys go under for all your bad loans.
- 49:21We'll give you a bunch of bank reserves.
- 49:23And so this is literally the money supply.
- 49:24This is the printing press.
- 49:26Now, I just want to tell you a quick story.
- 49:28So I started publicly talking about Bitcoin 2017, 2016 a little bit, but 2016, 2017, so
- 49:3610 years now.
- 49:37I can't tell you how many people in the space, whether they were genuine or not, or sort
- 49:43have thought that they were, you know, honest about the numbers, they would say,
- 49:52the Fed, all the Fed does is print, all the Fed does is print, all the Fed does is print.
- 49:56It was not the case. It was not the case. If you look here, all right, the total balance sheet
- 50:02of the Federal Reserve, okay, it was, the total number here is about four and a half trillion,
- 50:08I need to get the total there, you don't see it, but it's four and a half trillion dollars,
- 50:11all right and it was fixed they actually fixed that number they didn't uh they wanted to show
- 50:17the market they weren't going to print into infinity and what happened to the bitcoin price
- 50:22while the federal reserve was actually even started to print its back or started to pull
- 50:27its balance sheet down well the bitcoin price went up now it is true the bitcoin price went down
- 50:32interestingly when the federal reserve more aggressively pulled the uh the balance sheet
- 50:39down. But then it started to go up again in a 2019 boom. All right, then you had the silly season
- 50:44really start to begin. And the market was way already, people could argue is way unstable here.
- 50:52In 2019, there was a big repo spike in the short term lending markets of repurchase agreements,
- 50:57which is the type of money, basically, it's treasuries that trade like money,
- 51:00and you get a little bit higher premium. That market seized up. So they had to increase their
- 51:06balance sheet again. You see it here in 2019. So this was already before the madness of silly season
- 51:11pandemic started in the start of 2020. All right. So the Federal Reserve balance sheet went up,
- 51:15Bitcoin was going down. Then of course we did harmonize again. We did harmonize again here
- 51:20and we all went up together in 2021. Okay. Bitcoin price and the balance sheet. Then the Fed,
- 51:27there's a very boogeyman number, $9 trillion. They never got to it. You can kind of see it's like
- 51:32they almost hit $9 trillion balance sheet, but they didn't get to it. And then they started
- 51:36to go down we had this uh weird that was the silicon valley yeah the regional bank crisis
- 51:42yep silicon valley bank crisis uh a lot of guarantees were given again to banks some
- 51:48liquidity so they popped the balance sheet up here but again powell uh actually to his credit
- 51:54said we got to normalize get down and there's other things happening here we don't have to get
- 51:59into all the detail the point is the balance sheet is going down all right from nine trillion
- 52:04all the way till today, it's like six and a half.
- 52:08Okay.
- 52:09But what happened to the price of Bitcoin during this period?
- 52:12It's going up.
- 52:13It went up.
- 52:14So, yeah, I just want to say this in a,
- 52:17just a purely like transparent manner.
- 52:22Like I've looked at this six ways this Sunday,
- 52:23a lot of different balance sheets,
- 52:24a lot of different central bank balance sheets.
- 52:27Bitcoin, it's totally fine to say that
- 52:30when central banks print,
- 52:31eventually Bitcoin is going to go up
- 52:33to handle the loss of purchasing power.
- 52:35That's the total correct thing to say.
- 52:37But in the short to midterm, nobody knows.
- 52:40And what is more interesting and important, I would say,
- 52:43is Bitcoin's movement itself
- 52:45happens totally different than the other markets,
- 52:47which is a power curve.
- 52:48So that's a more interesting indicator
- 52:50of where the price could be at any given time.
- 52:52And again, I can't tell you where it's going.
- 52:54I can just tell you the relative risk.
- 52:55Back to the chart we just showed,
- 52:56we are at an extreme, extreme low level
- 53:02relative to the trend.
- 53:03So again, it could always go lower.
- 53:05We could go down to 50, whatever,
- 53:06and set a new low,
- 53:07set a new 0th percentile in that power trend.
- 53:10But based on all the prior data,
- 53:12Bitcoin, we're at extremely cheap level, okay?
- 53:17And what is interesting is,
- 53:20as you can see here,
- 53:22the Federal Reserve,
- 53:22the ECB is doing this too a little bit.
- 53:24And everybody knows what Trump wants.
- 53:26He wants lower interest rates
- 53:27with his new Fed share.
- 53:30So they're going to start printing as well.
- 53:32Doesn't mean Bitcoin's going to skyrocket once they start printing, but it could line up again where we could have a boom with an increase in money supply.
- 53:42Which is another thing, by the way, like I'm never a lot of doom and gloomers in the space, right?
- 53:47I'm not that.
- 53:48I'm not going to say it's actually good that the financial markets go haywire and more money gets printed.
- 53:55We know for sure that's baked in.
- 53:57They're going to do it.
- 53:58Okay.
- 53:59But the point of showing you this curve over the long time and the detail the Fed's balance
- 54:04sheet is here, I don't think they're that correlated at the moment.
- 54:09In fact, you can basically see, yes, the numbers both go up over time.
- 54:13But Bitcoin can go in a two, three-year bull while the central bank balance sheet is going
- 54:18down.
- 54:19And it can also go up while the central bank balance sheet is going up.
- 54:22It just can do both.
- 54:23So I was talking to Alex Thorne about this recently.
- 54:26And so like you, I got into Bitcoin in like 2016, 2017.
- 54:30And the whole like Fed printing to make Bitcoin go up just wasn't a narrative then that I remember at least.
- 54:36And I think it would be really good to shake that narrative more because it's really like the macro side of Bitcoiners came in in like 2018, as I remember it.
- 54:46And I think all the Bitcoiners that came in sort of 2020 onwards after the COVID print associate like Fed printing money with Bitcoin going up.
- 54:54And I think that's a really limiting narrative.
- 54:57Yeah.
- 54:58Yeah.
- 54:58I mean, you can see it right here.
- 55:02They knew, everybody knew.
- 55:03Well, let me just take this to the next level now.
- 55:05So here's the Fed balance sheet, all right, with Bitcoin.
- 55:08Let's just do the global monetary base, okay?
- 55:11So I'm showing you the Fed still.
- 55:13That's slightly different.
- 55:13I showed you total balance sheet.
- 55:15This is just the monetary base.
- 55:16So going back here, it's just the notes and just the bank reserves.
- 55:19That's the technical difference.
- 55:21There's other crazier things that happen with repurchase agreements.
- 55:23We don't have to go into it, but this is the global monetary base.
- 55:26Okay, so this is every central bank in the world.
- 55:27It's like 100 currencies in here.
- 55:31The value of their currency relative to the price of Bitcoin.
- 55:34So just like you said, the narrative is not always hold true.
- 55:40And look, Bitcoin can go up while they print less money.
- 55:46So that's what it did over the last couple of years.
- 55:48And then here, so this is a very sort of slow moving, unfortunately, chart.
- 55:51I try to get it right and it takes a lot of time now.
- 55:53So this, even December now is going to get updated
- 55:56probably only by April.
- 55:58So this is only September.
- 56:00But I can show you with the Fed, as I see,
- 56:03we do have indications it's going up.
- 56:05So that's for sure.
- 56:06We can look at individual central bank balance sheets.
- 56:08But again, this might even be a little bit higher
- 56:12for fourth quarter, 2025, and Bitcoin went down.
- 56:16So again, it's that narrative.
- 56:18It doesn't work on a day-to-day, a week-to-week,
- 56:21or even a month to month.
- 56:23You can certainly see some things that overlap.
- 56:27The 2021 was very, very clear, right?
- 56:29Very, very clear.
- 56:30But it didn't happen this last time.
- 56:32And I think there's, as a Bitcoiner,
- 56:35if you want to think long-term, big picture, relax,
- 56:38like we talked about at the top of the show,
- 56:40the world is moving fast,
- 56:41a lot of just crazy geopolitical events.
- 56:45Be prepared for, say, central banks printing money,
- 56:48but Bitcoin doing nothing.
- 56:50or be prepared for central banks printing money
- 56:53and Bitcoin also going gangbusters.
- 56:55Both can happen.
- 56:57The data does not show us one way or another
- 57:00that Bitcoin has to skyrocket
- 57:02with central banks printing money.
- 57:03And again, I wouldn't even encourage that, frankly,
- 57:07for just a general attitude towards life.
- 57:12But with this narrative of the debasement trade,
- 57:15I think that probably would happen If you just go back to that other chart Because like you say you can see that those Fed balance sheets look like they are starting to go up again How aggressively do you think they will
- 57:26go up? Do you think we'll see another big print? Actually, at the moment,
- 57:35so when the central bank balance sheet goes up, interest rates go down, okay, that means they're
- 57:39stepping in and buying. So on the other side of this trade, basically, the other side of all of
- 57:45this money is basically the Fed's portion of government bonds. They have plenty of room.
- 57:50And actually, I need to pull up another chart. Let me show you a different way to look at this.
- 57:54The United States, like I've said this a lot, the dollar is the best looking horse in the glue
- 57:57factory, right? So another thing that you can say with this chart, all right, let's take Bitcoin off.
- 58:04You see how this chart has gone down since 2021, 2022. It is true that central banks around the
- 58:11they all realized that they responded crazily,
- 58:14whether that was right or wrong.
- 58:15All of us in Bitcoin space would think it's wrong
- 58:16and unnecessary and all the rest.
- 58:18But they knew that they had to pull it back.
- 58:20They did.
- 58:21But also, they actually didn't pull it back
- 58:24as aggressively as this looks.
- 58:26The Fed did, as you can see for sure here,
- 58:29the Fed pulled their balance sheet way down
- 58:30from nine to six trillion, basically.
- 58:34If you look at the global number,
- 58:36this is a Wittgenstein's ruler thing.
- 58:38I'm showing you in dollars,
- 58:39but if you can just imagine like euros
- 58:40and yen and yuan.
- 58:42They did go down,
- 58:44but actually it wouldn't be this low
- 58:47if other currencies also didn't lose value
- 58:50against the dollar.
- 58:52So when they lose value against the dollar,
- 58:54this chart looks even worse.
- 58:55So that's another thing.
- 58:58And so this goes back to the dollar depacement trade
- 59:00or whatever, or even the position that Trump might be in
- 59:03with all of this,
- 59:06all of Putin's buddies toppling all over the world,
- 59:09these dictators falling over the world, the dollar might come out of this looking pretty good,
- 59:14even stronger, and maybe even too strong, you can argue. And that's what Trump would argue. And
- 59:19that's why he would try to debase the dollar more. He just wants low interest rates for real estate
- 59:24deals, as we know. But that's the argument he could make. And let me show you another chart
- 59:30that basically, I know you don't like to do politics, Danny, and I'm not going to go into
- 59:37But this is sort of, this is the same chart, it's a monetary base, but it's in the lens of free world versus autocracies.
- 59:45Now, if there's a sprightly young 20-something saying, oh, we don't have a true free market, whatever.
- 59:49Yes, I know. Nothing's perfect, okay, but go live in Pyongyang if you don't think that we don't have examples of free markets in the West versus autocratic countries.
- 59:59So here I have, basically, I have the United States.
- 1:00:02I have NATO, looking from a military sort of perspective,
- 1:00:06non-US NATO, which unfortunately includes Turkey.
- 1:00:09They're definitely an autocracy.
- 1:00:10Japan, Switzerland, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine.
- 1:00:14Then I have autocracies, China, unfortunately Hong Kong,
- 1:00:17that's just rolled in, Russia, Iran.
- 1:00:22And Iran is even overstated
- 1:00:23because I'm using official market rates
- 1:00:25and it's not even nearly as high as this.
- 1:00:27And then rest of the world.
- 1:00:28Rest of the world is basically global south.
- 1:00:30You got big countries in there.
- 1:00:31You got India, Pakistan, but that's the global south.
- 1:00:33So it just shows you the difference.
- 1:00:35And actually, don't look at this now as a debasement,
- 1:00:38but look at this as just how much money countries have.
- 1:00:42I'm going to show you this as a percentage.
- 1:00:44Okay, so it's coming.
- 1:00:45Just give it a second.
- 1:00:48This is sort of interesting.
- 1:00:51So people always talk about China's position
- 1:00:55and they're gearing up to invade.
- 1:00:57They've already said they want to be ready at least to invade Taiwan by 2027.
- 1:01:01That's been publicly stated.
- 1:01:02But look at the financial position of the monetary base.
- 1:01:06In dollar terms, it's true.
- 1:01:08It's a little bit different in different currencies.
- 1:01:10But in dollar terms, China actually was its largest proportion of the pie back before the global financial crisis.
- 1:01:1826% of the pie.
- 1:01:20All right.
- 1:01:20now, and when everybody hated what the communist regime was doing in China, and of course,
- 1:01:25their dishonesty of all the pandemic, we don't have to go down the road.
- 1:01:30They were 15% of the pie.
- 1:01:32Now, they are up to 19%.
- 1:01:35Okay, so they're growing again.
- 1:01:36But that pie is pretty weak on that side, like Russia.
- 1:01:40I'm gonna have to hold my tongue to say too many things.
- 1:01:42But people that know me know I live on the border of Russia.
- 1:01:45And Putin has lost three of his buddies in the last 15 months.
- 1:01:49He's lost Assad. He's lost Maduro. And now he's lost Khamenei.
- 1:01:57There's a new supreme leader certainly already tapped. We don't know who it is.
- 1:02:00And Iran's going to try to keep fighting, whatever. We're not enough to comment on the war.
- 1:02:04But my point is, this is a pretty weak pie of autocracies.
- 1:02:12And the dollar might come out looking OK here.
- 1:02:15and uh i could make a joke you know as long as the united states doesn't flip red on this chart but
- 1:02:20that doesn't happen so that doesn't happen generally you know the rule of law the free world
- 1:02:26even as sort of crazy as it is you might you might find support for the dollar a lot stronger
- 1:02:32than people might be anticipating and even with that strength that would allow trump to uh debase
- 1:02:40it more. This kind of plays into the Brent Johnson dollar milkshake theory thing, right? Like it's
- 1:02:45all current, all fiat currencies might fail, but the dollar will be the last one to fail.
- 1:02:49Yeah. Yeah, for sure. For sure. Uh, you know, I think people have said different variants of that
- 1:02:55for a long time and it's absolutely the case. So I don't have this updated through February,
- 1:02:59but I do, I think through January, this is the all time United States debt. And basically it's
- 1:03:07It's that chart I showed you, the Fed's balance sheet.
- 1:03:10This is the liability side of the Fed's balance sheet.
- 1:03:12Okay, this is actual printing press,
- 1:03:14the money that they print to buy debt.
- 1:03:16And here is the asset side of the Fed's balance sheet.
- 1:03:18So the dark green is the actual treasury securities
- 1:03:22that they own.
- 1:03:23So let's just zoom in to, let's say,
- 1:03:26post-global financial crisis era.
- 1:03:29You see this COVID print, pandemic print here.
- 1:03:33And if you take this as a percentage,
- 1:03:36the picture becomes very interesting. So in 2021, the Federal Reserve owned more United States debt
- 1:03:44than it had ever owned in its history, 28 cents on the dollar. This is literally what you would
- 1:03:49call the printing of debt. So this is the, what you see here is the visual of debt monetization.
- 1:03:56For every dollar that the United States had issued in debt throughout its history,
- 1:04:02This was a record in that the Federal Reserve printed 28 cents of that debt.
- 1:04:07That's what it means.
- 1:04:08Which is an insanely high number.
- 1:04:10It is a very high number.
- 1:04:11But think about this.
- 1:04:12Other hyperinflations, they go to 100%.
- 1:04:14The only buyer of Zimbabwe dollars would be the Zimbabwe Bank.
- 1:04:21Okay, so you go Powell, again, to his credit, to his credit, higher interest rates.
- 1:04:29He said it very clearly at the Jackson Hole speech a couple of years ago, and this was sort of like his life's goal, and he did it.
- 1:04:37So now, look, we are at a level already pre-pandemic, 16%, 16% or so of, so we've gone from nearly 30 cents on the dollar down to only 15 cents.
- 1:04:50And that's actually a prior record that was set in like more distant times in the Vietnam War.
- 1:04:57It's about 15, 16 cents on the dollar.
- 1:04:59at the very end of the Vietnam War. By the way, that percentage went down not because the Federal
- 1:05:04Reserve was printing less money, but because the United States started to issue more debt.
- 1:05:09But the interesting thing about that chart is that while it does go down in the interim,
- 1:05:14like that dark green section is only going up over time.
- 1:05:18100%. 100%. Yeah. I mean, it's not going to end well. I'm not saying that... This is where
- 1:05:24where Bitcoin plays into it. It really, this is the long-term Bitcoin thesis. At some point,
- 1:05:30every nation is going to want to get, I'm not going to say they're going to want to get off
- 1:05:35all fiat currency. And I know the timing of that. Of course, I don't. Again, just look at the relative
- 1:05:40risk of the power curve and where we are. But the last thing they want to get off in the fiat world
- 1:05:46is probably dollars because the dollar is still managed in a way where they want to try to protect
- 1:05:51it relative to the debt. And they have actually done that. Again, the numbers tell a very different
- 1:05:56story than the narrative. Okay. So to be clear, for those that are listening, we are far from the
- 1:06:01record of monetizing debt. We're only at 16 cents on the dollar. I'm not saying it's a good thing.
- 1:06:05I'm not saying I'm not defending the Federal Reserve. I'm not saying, you know, I'm not a
- 1:06:09Bitcoiner, whatever, if people are thinking about these different things. I'm just saying this is
- 1:06:13the reality of the situation. So if Trump comes off of, if Trump has a success, and I'm not sure
- 1:06:19he has planned that out. But if he does have success in Iran, and somehow there's regime change,
- 1:06:24you could see plenty of room for people to want to buy dollars, use dollars.
- 1:06:32And that would actually give Trump even more room to make this percentage increase,
- 1:06:40and thus have lower interest rates, and thus, you know, put another sugar high for everybody
- 1:06:43for another boom. So I still remember your original question, Danny.
- 1:06:49It's not going to go as high unless there's a major shock to everyone in the free world.
- 1:06:57And I use that term strictly, like in the free world.
- 1:06:59If this goes on in Iran for like 50 days or 100 days and the Strait of Hormuz can't get opened and shipping is completely cut off and there are major, major geopolitical disruptions, then it could be like some issues here.
- 1:07:15But if somehow some sort of normalcy goes, let's even not even theorize with what happens. Maybe some new regime in Iran stays and Trump doesn't fully get the goals done or whatever. You could still generally see pretty moderate growth of economies. Shipping lanes get back open and Trump has plenty of room to print.
- 1:07:42and then you could also see even a better outcome
- 1:07:45where there's even more demand for dollars
- 1:07:46and Trump doesn't even need to print as much
- 1:07:48but you could still get interest rates to go down.
- 1:07:51So the point is I do not see in the future
- 1:07:52any sort of pandemic style printing of money
- 1:07:56or 2008 style printing of money.
- 1:07:58It doesn't mean it couldn't happen.
- 1:07:59It doesn't mean there's not massive debt problems
- 1:08:02in the consumer credit market and other things
- 1:08:04but there are, I do have to say
- 1:08:09as someone who lives next door to Russia
- 1:08:10Like, it is actually encouraging to see dictators falling.
- 1:08:15How that's going to work out for the free world, the democratic world, very much an open question.
- 1:08:20But I would say the United States is actually at a relatively decent position, how their balance sheet looks.
- 1:08:27And certainly, certainly, if something bad did happen, they have plenty of room to print more.
- 1:08:33So, again, that's just my narrative, sort of how I'm seeing the world.
- 1:08:37Again, none of it has to do with, I have no, everything I just said has nothing to do with what's going to happen to Bitcoin in the next two to three months.
- 1:08:45For that, go back to the power curve.
- 1:08:47For that, stick with the statistics.
- 1:08:50Stick with, for now, the idea that the four-year cycle is not broken.
- 1:08:55And judge your opinions, your decisions, based on the relative risk of where Bitcoin sits relative to this amazing growth trajectory that it's on.
- 1:09:06which is uh which is a power law and bitcoin doesn't need the fed to go up um i love it man
- 1:09:13this has been cool and anything else we've been through a ton of charts there is there anything
- 1:09:17else that uh you want to go through before we finish we have i think i one thing i teased on
- 1:09:23that i did not actually fully get to so let me just find it is the is the how a normal trajectory
- 1:09:30of a of a stock would grow these are the fastest growing stocks in the world this is an ai trade
- 1:09:34So this is Magnificent Seven, you know, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Apple, even Tesla.
- 1:09:41I wouldn't put Tesla in here, frankly, because I don't think they're pure tech, but that's what it is.
- 1:09:46So this is now, this is similar.
- 1:09:48This is that evolving.
- 1:09:52This is a good way to end the pod, actually.
- 1:09:54So it's the same evolving curve that I started before, right?
- 1:10:01I said that notice how with Bitcoin's power curve, it gets closer to the line, but actually farther away from the extremes, right?
- 1:10:10With this one, this is an exponential chart.
- 1:10:15This is compound growth.
- 1:10:16This is what we talked about.
- 1:10:16This is totally different.
- 1:10:17This is how all financial markets grow.
- 1:10:19It's a straight line on log linear.
- 1:10:21But notice how Bitcoin set its extremes at the very beginning, right?
- 1:10:277x over trend, 0.1x.
- 1:10:29This is setting the extremes. This goes back to the same life of Bitcoin, by the way, 2008.
- 1:10:33This is setting the extremes around the pandemic and after. And I would dare say, in fact, this is
- 1:10:41not even a risk to say this at all. These markets can go back to the extremes very easily because
- 1:10:46they're exponential, because they're more volatile. They don't follow what a power curve follows.
- 1:10:51And the math is totally different in log linear space. And so you can actually see
- 1:10:56it's still a great curve all right 98 percent r squared 98.7 percent r squared but look at the
- 1:11:03volatility and by the way i'm not saying don't invest in mag 7 stocks like it's you know as long
- 1:11:07as this ai trade ai trade keeps going it's been a great you know look at these keggers 27 25 percent
- 1:11:14i imagine like passive flows count a lot to this as well and things like that but like this straight
- 1:11:18line up just looks like eventually that's unsustainable that can't continue forever surely
- 1:11:24Well, you know, the stock market itself,
- 1:11:28if you did this over 200 years of stock market,
- 1:11:30you'd have a straight line.
- 1:11:31It'd be a very gradual, it'd be like a straight line
- 1:11:34and then the next, you actually get a faster,
- 1:11:36it's what Jeffrey West calls super exponential growth.
- 1:11:38You get faster and faster curves.
- 1:11:42You know, I did a pod, not a pod,
- 1:11:45a circuit last summer around the European Bitcoin conferences
- 1:11:50And I was trying to compare Jeffrey West theorized about the singularity as a mathematical event, not like Ray Kurzweil talking about, you know, if it's AI or whatever.
- 1:12:00But there's no doubt everybody's getting, you know, the world is moving faster.
- 1:12:03People are trying to figure it out.
- 1:12:06There's a couple scenarios.
- 1:12:08First of all, I think it's totally possible that all this sort of circle jerk of capital that's flowing into the AI companies, which is pretty well documented, right?
- 1:12:15Like, you know, Microsoft invested into Anthropic and OpenAI and Amazon as well and back into Amazon and all this stuff.
- 1:12:23That could be a bubble.
- 1:12:26It could be like something as extreme as you go up here and then you go all the way down here, right?
- 1:12:31That's totally possible.
- 1:12:32But at the end of that carnage, it's totally possible that we have something like, you know, Amazon, the strong, well, you know, functioning companies.
- 1:12:44just regular business, well-managed companies could come out of that better after the carnage.
- 1:12:49Now, again, I'm not predicting it. I don't know for sure. It does seem crazy. But if you look at
- 1:12:54this curve itself, this is the market cap of the Magnificent Seven, $20 trillion. They're actually
- 1:12:58right on trend. It's not as extreme as it was back in 2021 with the meme stock trading. It's
- 1:13:04not as bad as it was in 2022 when it went down to $7 trillion. So we'll see. Maybe it could run
- 1:13:10for a couple more years.
- 1:13:12I'm not sure.
- 1:13:13But the point of bringing up
- 1:13:15the speaker circuit
- 1:13:16that I did in last year
- 1:13:18was Jeffrey West,
- 1:13:19he did not talk about Bitcoin
- 1:13:21in his book.
- 1:13:21It's a really good book, Scale.
- 1:13:22People should read it
- 1:13:23if you want to really dive
- 1:13:24into the numbers
- 1:13:24of what we're talking about
- 1:13:25with the statistics here
- 1:13:27and regressions and power laws
- 1:13:28versus exponential curves.
- 1:13:31He kind of theorizes
- 1:13:32that we're going to move
- 1:13:34into some sort of a new,
- 1:13:36his singularity
- 1:13:36is a mathematical singularity.
- 1:13:39And he theorizes
- 1:13:40that it could be technology
- 1:13:42that takes us to the next level,
- 1:13:46but he's just not sure.
- 1:13:47And he doesn't mention Bitcoin.
- 1:13:48And I think Bitcoin is a nice answer
- 1:13:50to his theory of where
- 1:13:53a lot of this craziness could end
- 1:13:55and it could kind of, you know,
- 1:13:56smooth out the volatility
- 1:13:57and we get onto something more grounded.
- 1:14:00And it's like,
- 1:14:00the good analogy that Ray Kurzweil talks about
- 1:14:03is the transcendent man.
- 1:14:05Okay, so it might have seemed,
- 1:14:07you know, crazy in the 50s
- 1:14:09to have rock music
- 1:14:09and the devil was, you know, going to take over society.
- 1:14:12But, you know, we moved on from that.
- 1:14:13You know, it didn't take over.
- 1:14:14And we, you know, we then have, you know, the World Wide Web,
- 1:14:18and that seems crazy.
- 1:14:19Then we have the dot-com boom.
- 1:14:20That seems crazy.
- 1:14:21But we just keep moving forward and forward.
- 1:14:23So I think all of that stuff is going to hold.
- 1:14:25Again, regular markets have huge booms and busts.
- 1:14:28But the beautiful thing about Bitcoin
- 1:14:30and the thing that is really undeniably different about Bitcoin
- 1:14:34is it moves on a more sustainable curve.
- 1:14:37And so I think I've been theorizing a lot about this on my own show.
- 1:14:41What could it mean?
- 1:14:42What could it mean for interest rates, growth, all that?
- 1:14:44Let's not get into that too much at the end of your show.
- 1:14:47But I do think five, 10 years from now, when Bitcoin is theorized to be $20 trillion, right, in market cap 10 years from now, let's say, roughly, that's going to match the global monetary base.
- 1:15:02I mean, I plot it quite clearly.
- 1:15:04Okay. By the end of the 2030s, you're going to be at the level of global money. And Bitcoin is going
- 1:15:11to be growing on a sustainable curve. Global money is going to be growing on an unsustainable curve
- 1:15:14with a lot of interest, a lot of fiat interest. Those things are going to merge. They're going
- 1:15:18to merge. How it happens, I still don't know yet, but that's the hope that the Bitcoin network gives
- 1:15:26to us. So that's what I'd say about all that. I think that's the next show we should do.
- 1:15:30next time we're in the same place let's do that in person and do bitcoin is the singularity good
- 1:15:35good my friend i'm good for that awesome um matthew this has been fun i'm gonna see you in bed for
- 1:15:41in a few weeks um thank you i appreciate you coming on the show no problem danny looking
- 1:15:46forward to it bitcoin is cheap now is a good time to stack some stats uh tell everyone where they can
- 1:15:50catch out your stream yes uh so uh one base money you can find me at the handle one base money
- 1:15:57everywhere basically youtube twitter uh nostr and uh the channel's called porkopolis economics
- 1:16:04on youtube let's go all right man i will see you in bed for a few weeks thank you all right danny
- 1:16:11take care
- 1:16:27Thank you.
