- 0:05Speaker 1: Wastey on KFM 94.5. The show that drives you home.
- 0:10Speaker 1: The Flash Drive with Carl Wastey.
- 0:13Speaker 2: That's what it is. Welcome, welcome to the best part
- 0:15Speaker 2: of your day. Hopefully, we'll do our best to make
- 0:17Speaker 2: that happen. For the next four hours, it's three o'clock.
- 0:19Speaker 2: We're here till seven. Let's make it worth your while.
- 0:22Speaker 2: This is your show. It is your flash drive on
- 0:25Speaker 2: KFM 94.5. Cassidy Jade Nicholson.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Carl Jade Wastey.
- 0:30Speaker 2: So, you know that I realized that my colleagues have
- 0:33Speaker 2: created an adjective. Yeah. Out of me. And I needed
- 0:37Speaker 2: to share this with you. I know it is something
- 0:38Speaker 2: that we discussed off air, but you're so.
- 0:42Speaker 2: So let me explain. Whenever they tell me a story
- 0:44Speaker 2: about people riling them up and them not responding emotionally,
- 0:48Speaker 2: they said, yeah, I did a Carl Wastey.
- 0:50Speaker 3: What the hell is that? So Carl has this really
- 0:52Speaker 3: incredible talent of like staying level-headed. Thank you. And finding,
- 0:57Speaker 3: you know, the, okay, cool, this is how this person
- 1:00Speaker 3: is feeling. It's not about you. And look, I'm an
- 1:02Speaker 3: emotional girl. So I get riled up a lot. And
- 1:06Speaker 3: when I ask Carl, how do I handle this? He goes,
- 1:09Speaker 3: you know what? Just realize... It's not about you. So
- 1:13Speaker 3: I have to channel that energy. And I have to
- 1:16Speaker 3: find the thing to say that's going to be emotionally intelligent,
- 1:20Speaker 3: which is normally, have a lovely day and remember to smile.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Well, I mean, so like often, you know, often Beatrice
- 1:29Speaker 2: would tell me like, yo, I had to pull a
- 1:30Speaker 2: call today. I'm like, what do you mean? No, somebody
- 1:33Speaker 2: cut him off.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Or the electricity has been off, you know, for eight days. Exactly.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And you have to chat to somebody on the phone
- 1:39Speaker 2: who didn't know what was going on. thank you i'm
- 1:41Speaker 2: going to take that as a compliment that's very kind
- 1:42Speaker 2: of you to say that is wonderful.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I want to be more like you um you're great thanks.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Okay so be more like you because you're great conflict
- 1:53Speaker 2: yes i know of course and and the thing is
- 1:56Speaker 2: whether we like it or not in this industry and
- 1:58Speaker 2: i think this is where the real practice of not
- 2:01Speaker 2: responding emotionally comes in is that On the WhatsApp line,
- 2:05Speaker 2: where the people creating TikTok videos and spending their time
- 2:09Speaker 2: saying something about you, I will always say to you
- 2:12Speaker 2: that those people took their time to respond in that
- 2:16Speaker 2: manner to you. They've taken the time out of their
- 2:19Speaker 2: day and out of their lives and have said, I.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Can't stop thinking about you.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Basically, that's what they say. So they'll have a response
- 2:26Speaker 2: to something that we have said or even what we've played. Yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Something to a little thing that we've done on air
- 2:33Speaker 2: and created an entire TikTok video about it. But remember,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that person took their time to stitch something together, edit
- 2:41Speaker 2: and post. Don't respond to them. poorly, tell them thank
- 2:46Speaker 2: you for the time they spent on you. They have
- 2:50Speaker 2: families that are not going to get that time. They
- 2:52Speaker 2: can't get that time back, but they decided and said
- 2:55Speaker 2: that day they're going to give that time to you.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And anybody who's trying to rile you up, getting on
- 3:01Speaker 2: your last nerve, remember they have taken time to coordinate,
- 3:05Speaker 2: strategize and deliver it to you. Some of our own
- 3:10Speaker 2: family members don't even take that time. But that stranger
- 3:13Speaker 2: took that time on you. Thank them.
- 3:15Speaker 3: That's what I'm talking about.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I bless you. Have a wonderful day. That time on me.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Of your life.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Do you have a crush on me?
- 3:24Speaker 2: How do I respond? How do I give you time back?
- 3:28Speaker 2: All I can do is say thank you. So that's
- 3:30Speaker 2: essentially what we have to deal with on a daily
- 3:33Speaker 2: basis here. It's really crazy because I know that some
- 3:36Speaker 2: people are not in control of their own emotions and
- 3:38Speaker 2: I bless them and I hope they'll get to a
- 3:39Speaker 2: point where their actions can be put on a billboard
- 3:42Speaker 2: or their actions can be seen by their own kids
- 3:45Speaker 2: and they can realize, oh my word, I wasn't responding there.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I was reacting and that reaction was impulsive and I
- 3:51Speaker 2: need to respond more. And react less. That's all.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And that is the Carl Weasley response.
- 3:56Speaker 2: But I don't know why.
- 3:58Speaker 3: That is the Carl Weasley response. And we love that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Well, I hope that. And it's a practice. It is
- 4:05Speaker 2: a practice. It's not something that is a silver bullet.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Every day there's going to be new challenges and new
- 4:09Speaker 2: ways to practice that particular response. It's not easy all
- 4:13Speaker 2: the time. But I think that if you set your
- 4:15Speaker 2: mind to it, you get a little better at it
- 4:17Speaker 2: as anything that you would practice. That's it. What a
- 4:21Speaker 2: start to the show.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I love it. Thanks for the soapbox.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I hope that calmed you down. And now that you
- 4:25Speaker 2: know that that person that just beeped you off, at
- 4:27Speaker 2: least now you know exactly how to respond. And now
- 4:30Speaker 2: we can play you some music, give you some clicks,
- 4:32Speaker 2: club card cashbacks, tell you about our private, sorry, I
- 4:35Speaker 2: meant pirate party on the 31st of October, and then
- 4:39Speaker 2: bring you one of the most peaceful voices in the
- 4:42Speaker 2: South African music industry. Zolani Mahola is coming through to
- 4:48Speaker 2: chat to you after four o'clock. Peace be with you.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Step into the scene that you won't catch.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Got to love you. Got to love you.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Got to love you, Shonda Paul and Alexis Jordan. It
- 5:03Speaker 2: is on your show, your flash drive, KFM 94.5. Can
- 5:07Speaker 2: I just remind you that on Thursday, the 3rd of December,
- 5:09Speaker 2: do you know who's going to be here in Cape Town?
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know it's going to be here?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Are you sure you know?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Can I say it with my chest?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Do you want to say it with it? Do you
- 5:16Speaker 2: go for it? Grand Arena, Grand West?
- 5:18Speaker 3: Shandapal.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Shandapal. Yep, that's going to be here. And tickets are
- 5:27Speaker 2: available right now. And it's going to be cool.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Can I just say, so when we were quizzing the other.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Night, Oh, sorry, you guys are... Isn't that like the
- 5:35Speaker 2: fourth time you... Third hat trick. Third time. Okay, hat trick.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Excuse me.
- 5:39Speaker 3: So we have a song that plays.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And then one of our teammates goes, oh, that's Sean Paul.
- 5:45Speaker 3: And I said, babe, you understood every word. That is
- 5:50Speaker 3: not Mr. Sean Paul.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Was it Shaggy? No, it wasn't.
- 5:55Speaker 3: It was Yaz.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yaz. Oh, Ayaz replaying.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Ayaz, yes.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Charlie, like a melody.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Literally.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 6:02Speaker 3: And then they were like, this is Sean Paul. And
- 6:03Speaker 3: I was like, no, no, no. Sean Paul talks in cursive.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Ayaz, yeah, yeah. That's it. But basically, just to give
- 6:09Speaker 2: you some details. Baby boy. So that's the details you
- 6:30Speaker 2: need to know about Sean Paul.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Cool.
- 6:32Speaker 2: So you got all of that? Did you write everything down? Fantastic.
- 6:36Speaker 2: For those in the back, Thursday, 3 December, grab your
- 6:39Speaker 2: tickets right now at Blue Blood Tickets. And it is
- 6:41Speaker 2: in proud association with Blue Blood Firewater Earth Productions and
- 6:44Speaker 2: KFM 94.5. Sean Paul is coming to your city. It's
- 6:48Speaker 2: very exciting. It's really cool. And by the way, the
- 6:53Speaker 2: dialect in Laos, it's pigeon. So if you want to
- 6:55Speaker 2: learn a bit more pigeon and you'll understand more of
- 6:58Speaker 2: like what he's saying if you want to do that.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So what's wrong?
- 7:03Speaker 3: Petrus, keep this on top of your mind.
- 7:05Speaker 2: P-I-D-G-I-N. Just do some Googling there, man.
- 7:08Speaker 3: P-I-D.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah, go for it.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I'll do it.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Just go P-I-D-G-I-N, Sean Paul. And then you'll get some. P-I-D.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So you get some ideas of dialect and you can learn.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Because it is really a proper dialect and it's a
- 7:22Speaker 2: proper way of speaking. So you can actually learn it
- 7:25Speaker 2: and then you'll be ready for the concert on the
- 7:27Speaker 2: 3rd of December.
- 7:29Speaker 3: He doesn't sing in pidgin. He performs Jamaican patoy, also
- 7:34Speaker 3: known as Jamaican creole. But that's another form. Pidgin is
- 7:39Speaker 3: another form.
- 7:39Speaker 2: There we go. So if you want to sort of
- 7:42Speaker 2: lean yourself in there to that, full-fledged Creole. I know
- 7:45Speaker 2: that's one of the pigeons, one of those sort of
- 7:47Speaker 2: subsidiary dialects and that Jamaican patois, but like, I think
- 7:50Speaker 2: that'll be so cool to learn something really. Like there's some,
- 7:54Speaker 2: there's some common language. Hold on. Maybe we should do
- 7:56Speaker 2: a few of these just in preparation. Basic Jamaican patois. Okay.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Let's say maybe there's some cool phrases we can learn here. Okay.
- 8:07Speaker 2: There's some easy ones. Wagwan.
- 8:10Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 8:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Wagwan. What's up? And how are you?
- 8:14Speaker 4: How are you?
- 8:14Speaker 2: So Wagwan is essentially... What's going on? That's our way. Yeah. Right? Yes. Done. Medea.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Medea?
- 8:25Speaker 2: No, no, no. So I'm doing well. I'm here. Right? Yairi.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I'm Yairi. I'm okay.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Perfect. Yes. All right. Lovely. Walk good.
- 8:36Speaker 3: All good.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Well, walk good.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It means walk well. Go well. Goodbye. Oh, yeah. Bless up.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah It's like blessings.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah bless up It's just have a nice day Yeah
- 8:50Speaker 2: This is actually quite cool We need to learn this
- 8:52Speaker 2: Before Sean Paul gets here I'm into it Yeah Chaka
- 8:55Speaker 2: chaka That's when Something's untidy or messy Ah zine.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Ah zine No it's zine Zine Yeah I don't know.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I got it I understand Oh Well I I reverse
- 9:07Speaker 2: that For me Predrin Brother Yeah Brothers Sistrin Sisters Okay, cool.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Big knee?
- 9:16Speaker 5: No.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Do you know that? Pucky, basically, is another term. It's
- 9:21Speaker 2: children or child. Okay. Oh, this is so cool, man.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I think we're going to learn this. We're going to
- 9:26Speaker 2: have to. Okay. I think it's good to learn some
- 9:28Speaker 2: new languages. I've heard that on several podcasts that it's
- 9:31Speaker 2: very good for your brain development and to continue making
- 9:34Speaker 2: sure that your brain develops. So we need to learn
- 9:36Speaker 2: this before and then we can listen to all of them.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Like every single syllable would be like, yeah, Wagwan. In fact,
- 9:44Speaker 2: let me, can I try with you now?
- 9:45Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Traffic. Wagwan.
- 9:51Speaker 3: There's a stationary vehicle on the N1 outbound after Platzecloof Road.
- 9:55Speaker 3: The center lane is obstructed and on the M3 south,
- 9:58Speaker 3: it's backed up between UCT and Claremont. There are traffic
- 10:01Speaker 3: lights that are faulty, and you can find them in
- 10:02Speaker 3: the following areas. In Kailitsa at Miuwe and Jafdike Masimola Road. In, oh,
- 10:08Speaker 3: give me one second.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Why?
- 10:10Speaker 3: No, I'm just, I got to sound the sounds.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Ekendal?
- 10:13Speaker 3: Ekendal. Ekendal. E-I-K-E-N-D-A-L.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Hold on. That could also be a typo. Where are
- 10:22Speaker 2: you speaking of?
- 10:23Speaker 3: Fort Chipper Road and the Gama Street.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Oh.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Peter just also came now to check it out.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I love how these things happen in real time. Ekendal? Oh,
- 10:32Speaker 2: is it E-I? Is it E-I?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Ekendal.
- 10:35Speaker 2: So was there an E there?
- 10:35Speaker 3: Ekendal.
- 10:36Speaker 2: You missed on the E. I said E. I said E-I. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh,
- 10:39Speaker 2: you said, I thought you said I-K.
- 10:40Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no.
- 10:41Speaker 2: All right, that's Ekendal.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Ekendal.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Thank you so much. I'm a human being and we
- 10:45Speaker 3: learn these things in lifetime.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Of course.
- 10:47Speaker 3: And lastly, you'll find a traffic light at the, a
- 10:50Speaker 3: faulty traffic light at the N2 and Baden-Powell Drive. My
- 10:53Speaker 3: name is Cassidy Nicholson, your human friend. And if you
- 10:57Speaker 3: see anything on the roads, let me know on the
- 10:59Speaker 3: WhatsApp line. That's 082-945-0940.
- 11:02Speaker 2: You do not need to disclaim those sorts of things. No, no, no.
- 11:06Speaker 2: You don't even need to. Because I think that's the standards,
- 11:09Speaker 2: unnecessary standards that people set.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Sometimes it's important to remind people that we're all human, though.
- 11:15Speaker 2: That was Jamaican patois, and I said pigeon. So I
- 11:18Speaker 2: got that wrong. Oops.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Wow.
- 11:20Speaker 2: But then I corrected myself like any human would do,
- 11:22Speaker 2: and then we went into it, and we realized what
- 11:24Speaker 2: guan means. All right?
- 11:25Speaker 1: Miairi.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You see, you're doing the Carl Wastier game, and I'm
- 11:28Speaker 3: here for it.
- 11:29Speaker 2: No, it's important to do that. I'll tell you what's
- 11:31Speaker 2: going to make you really irie today. It's actually winning
- 11:33Speaker 2: with clicks. I want to know what your clicks brand

- 12:00Speaker 2: want you to focus on the Clix brand products and
- 12:04Speaker 2: tell me which one's your fave.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Winning.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's all about that winning feeling.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Tell her that today. Because you could be winning 2,500 rands.

- 12:20Speaker 1: Shantay.
- 12:24Speaker 6: Hi, Carl.
- 12:25Speaker 7: Hi, Cassidy.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Hello, hello.
- 12:27Speaker 2: What you up to? What you doing?
- 12:30Speaker 6: I was actually working. I'm a teacher online.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You're a teacher? You know what? I feel like this
- 12:35Speaker 2: is the official teacher's show.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I really do think. There are so many teachers that
- 12:40Speaker 2: we chat to for several different competitions. I'm fast becoming
- 12:45Speaker 2: like well aware that this is the teacher's show. And
- 12:47Speaker 2: if I can be of service to a teacher online,
- 12:50Speaker 2: who are of service to many of the minds shaping
- 12:53Speaker 2: the future, I can be very, very happy going to
- 12:56Speaker 2: bed at night knowing that I can do this. So, hi, teacher. Hi. So... Hi.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Clix brand products. Oh, wait, hold on. What do you teach?
- 13:05Speaker 2: I need to ask that first before we get there.
- 13:07Speaker 4: English.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I can hear. I can hear. I just heard you
- 13:12Speaker 2: enunciate and suddenly I was compelled to ask. There it is.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Of course. Do you do English?
- 13:19Speaker 1: So.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You said English?
- 13:21Speaker 6: It's literature. So we are an extramural for literature.
- 13:27Speaker 2: What is the focus book now within the level you're teaching?
- 13:32Speaker 6: Well, we focus a variety of age groups. So we
- 13:35Speaker 6: go all the way from about three years because they
- 13:39Speaker 6: start very young. And we can go up to 18.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Okay, this is great. Yay for literacy. We need it
- 13:45Speaker 2: in this country. More literacy, more books, more reading, and
- 13:50Speaker 2: more Clix brand products. So Shante, what's your favorite?
- 13:55Speaker 6: My favorite is the turmeric tissue oil. It's brand new
- 13:58Speaker 6: and it's absolutely amazing. I was just telling Pietras when
- 14:02Speaker 6: I was sending the voice, the voice notes, I went
- 14:05Speaker 6: to the shop, sold out, went online, sold out. But, um,
- 14:09Speaker 6: Beatrice just confirmed that they have it back in stock,
- 14:12Speaker 6: so it's fine. But it's a really good product. I
- 14:14Speaker 6: love mine. I use it in my lotion. It's amazing.
- 14:18Speaker 1: What?
- 14:19Speaker 2: So, obviously, in my head, I'm thinking turmeric's going to
- 14:22Speaker 2: have a yellow pigment. I'm assuming it doesn't show up
- 14:26Speaker 2: like that when you do rub it on, right?
- 14:27Speaker 3: No, of course not.
- 14:28Speaker 2: No, no, no. Okay, I want to make sure.
- 14:30Speaker 6: Yes, it's in the oil.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Otherwise, you would have turned into a Coldplay song.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Oh, my goodness, yes. Panning story gone wrong.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yep.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Well, thank you so much for sharing. I will definitely
- 14:41Speaker 2: take a look at that. I see now it's there,
- 14:43Speaker 2: a turmeric tissue oil enriched with turmeric, as well as
- 14:48Speaker 2: some ceramides, all to restore the skin's barrier. and hydrate
- 14:52Speaker 2: the skin. It sounds good to me. You just won
- 14:54Speaker 2: a two and a half thousand cashback. Well done. Congratulations.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You are a winner. And thanks a lot for calling
- 14:59Speaker 2: in and sharing. I appreciate you. Well done to Shante,
- 15:02Speaker 2: our teacher. And please go check out all of these
- 15:04Speaker 2: Clix brand products. Trust me, you'll find a deal that

- 15:41Speaker 2: It's on your show. Your flash drive. KFM 94.5. While
- 15:44Speaker 2: you were working, I was working for you. And I
- 15:46Speaker 2: found some stuffs and things. And that's why I just
- 15:49Speaker 2: need you to... Just to lock in for a second,
- 15:52Speaker 2: I won't be too long. I want to tell you
- 15:54Speaker 2: about how Cape Town is so amazing it's scary.
- 15:57Speaker 3: We know this.
- 15:58Speaker 2: All right. And the reason why I say scary deliberately
- 16:01Speaker 2: is because Cape Town has officially made the list of
- 16:04Speaker 2: the world's top 50 Halloween destinations for 2026. And I
- 16:08Speaker 2: was here thinking we don't really support Halloween or do it.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, we hardly celebrate.
- 16:12Speaker 2: We put it on the map. The way we do
- 16:14Speaker 2: things here, we came in at number 48 in the
- 16:16Speaker 2: global top 50 ranking. The Mother City earned its spooky
- 16:19Speaker 2: credentials through its ghost stories, eerie landmarks, including the legendary
- 16:23Speaker 2: Flying Dutchman, the supposedly haunted castle of Goodope, the tale
- 16:26Speaker 2: of Jan van Hunks, smoking a pipe with the devil
- 16:29Speaker 2: on Devil's Peak, and with Halloween events ranging from the
- 16:32Speaker 2: Cape Town Zombie Walk to Dracula at the Arts Academy.
- 16:36Speaker 2: That's why.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Okay. Okay. So we've got lots of like things that
- 16:40Speaker 3: happen because of it.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:42Speaker 3: But I just, I know that I'm not walking the
- 16:44Speaker 3: streets asking for candy. You know what I mean?
- 16:46Speaker 2: I do believe that we should change that. And I
- 16:48Speaker 2: know I'm going to sound boring now. Imagine doing wellness trick-or-treating, man.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Now when you put it like that.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Because I told you about my issue with protein. Like
- 16:59Speaker 2: I would love a little protein sponsor. Okay, I would.
- 17:03Speaker 2: But if I can trick-or-treat for protein bars and protein shakes.
- 17:06Speaker 3: And electrolyte sachets.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yo, please. Get in. I will knock on your door. Trick-or-treat. Yeah.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Trick-or-wellness ought to be so good. Yeah. Trick-or-wellness. Here we go.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Someone dressed as a witch thing.
- 17:27Speaker 8: Take a wellness bar, my dear.
- 17:28Speaker 3: 25 grams of protein per bar.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Can you do a muscle-up yet, my dear? You can't.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Because I can't. Why did you have to bring the
- 17:41Speaker 2: muscle-up into it? I don't know. I just started to
- 17:42Speaker 2: hurt myself in that moment.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Sure.
- 17:43Speaker 2: But I think this is great. Oh, by the way,
- 17:46Speaker 2: so there we go. I'll give it to you. The trick-or-treating,
- 17:48Speaker 2: but make it wellness.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'm down.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I'm down. Say less.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And it was so cool. District 6, an area filled
- 17:56Speaker 2: with culture, is offering you, the artist, an opportunity to
- 18:00Speaker 2: To throw up an amazing mural. Chapel Street in District 6.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And you can actually enter this thing. Deadlines 30 October.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Include a CV and portfolio when you enter. And you
- 18:11Speaker 2: can be part of the project.
- 18:14Speaker 3: That's so cool.
- 18:15Speaker 2: It's a project that aims to honor the legacy of
- 18:17Speaker 2: the late District 6 artist and educator Aisha Price. And
- 18:21Speaker 2: it's there to allow creatives to have a space to
- 18:25Speaker 2: do their work out in public like that. So remember...
- 18:29Speaker 2: applications include CV portfolio I will get you where to
- 18:32Speaker 2: send the applications shortly that's I'll get it for you
- 18:37Speaker 2: in a second and then there's a big story happening
- 18:42Speaker 2: at the moment massive huge and you're.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Just going to leave it like that hey.
- 18:47Speaker 2: No I'm going to talk about it now no I'm
- 18:49Speaker 2: not going to keep you hanging don't worry no no
- 18:51Speaker 2: no no no I'm not going to I won't keep
- 18:53Speaker 2: you hanging okay but you know we're doing something tomorrow Yes,
- 18:59Speaker 2: I know. KFM versus Cape Talk. And this all came
- 19:02Speaker 2: up because Lester from Cape Talk, I was listening to
- 19:06Speaker 2: his breakfast show, as one does. And I loved the
- 19:10Speaker 2: way he articulated all of the needs of safety parents,
- 19:14Speaker 2: the program, which is really cool. And it is designed
- 19:18Speaker 2: to ensure that kids are removed out of their situations
- 19:22Speaker 2: to continue a normal life. And safety parents offer those environments.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And I tell you now, if you offer a child
- 19:27Speaker 2: an environment that offers safety, security and confidence and motivation,
- 19:32Speaker 2: they will achieve great things. And that's what I wanted
- 19:35Speaker 2: to do by challenging Leicester to a paddle match at
- 19:39Speaker 2: the grid paddle at Virgin Act of the Point. And
- 19:42Speaker 2: essentially what we're going to do from midday to 2 p.m.
- 19:46Speaker 2: is we're going to play them and the loser will
- 19:48Speaker 2: then have to contribute to 000 rand to the cause
- 19:51Speaker 2: safety parents so the idea here cassidy is to not
- 19:55Speaker 2: lose however producer pietras tells me that there are people
- 19:58Speaker 2: who have our backs who are willing to donate to
- 20:03Speaker 2: us if we win who I don't know who it is,
- 20:08Speaker 2: but I know the guy's name's Leon. Hello, Leon.
- 20:11Speaker 6: Carl, Carl, Carl.
- 20:14Speaker 4: My brother, how are you doing? You know, the only
- 20:17Speaker 4: thing that tastes worse and more bitter than creatine is
- 20:21Speaker 4: losing to me, Carl. This is less to give it.
- 20:24Speaker 2: You know, by the way, this is why Cape Town
- 20:29Speaker 2: is a great Halloween destination. You get scary calls like this.
- 20:31Speaker 2: That's another one. That was crazy. That was really intense.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And why'd they call you Leon? Sorry.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Why'd you call me Leon?
- 20:41Speaker 5: Yeah. Yes.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Listen, Carl.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I just wanted to call in because I've been thinking
- 20:47Speaker 4: about tomorrow's paddle match and I'm starting to get a
- 20:51Speaker 4: little bit concerned. Not about losing. I'm concerned about you, Carl,
- 20:56Speaker 4: because I've seen you around the office talking a very,
- 21:01Speaker 4: very big game. You've got the confidence of a man
- 21:04Speaker 4: who's played Wimbledon, the swagger of a Roger Federer, and
- 21:09Speaker 4: from what I can gather, the actual paddle experience of
- 21:13Speaker 4: a man who's just discovered the sport exists. I am,
- 21:17Speaker 4: of course, Carl, the 1997 Sutvata Camp Swing Ball Champion.
- 21:22Speaker 6: What?
- 21:23Speaker 3: Not swing ball. At Sutvata?
- 21:25Speaker 2: Do you know how difficult it was to win in Sutvata?
- 21:28Speaker 2: Gee whiz, hold on. Say less.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Carl, I also have grade 8 colours in Foursquare. I
- 21:37Speaker 4: am experienced.
- 21:39Speaker 3: These are the games of like a primary school student.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Wait, Cassidy, don't you have colours in hopscotch or something
- 21:43Speaker 2: meant from Camps Bay?
- 21:44Speaker 3: I absolutely do.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:47Speaker 3: And good vibes. Don't forget that.
- 21:50Speaker 4: You know what, Carl and Cassidy, I know we're doing
- 21:54Speaker 4: this for a good cause, the Safety Parents Program, and
- 21:57Speaker 4: that's exactly why I'm taking this seriously, because there are
- 22:00Speaker 4: kids who need support, there are families who need resources,
- 22:03Speaker 4: and apparently a radio station DO that needs to be humbled,
- 22:08Speaker 4: and tomorrow, Carl and Cassidy, I intend to humble the
- 22:12Speaker 4: two of you. You've already committed quite a substantial amount
- 22:16Speaker 4: of money if your team loses. I just want to
- 22:18Speaker 4: understand something. That That's not a charitable donation, Carl. That's
- 22:23Speaker 4: an invoice. And tomorrow, that bill is due. So, here's
- 22:28Speaker 4: my advice.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Okay, Lester.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Get some practice in. Stretch those hamstrings. Maybe say goodbye
- 22:35Speaker 4: to that donation of yours. Because when Team Lester and
- 22:40Speaker 4: Team Natalie walk onto the court, we're not there to
- 22:44Speaker 4: make friends. We're there to make a difference. And if
- 22:49Speaker 4: making a difference means putting Paul and Cassidy through a
- 22:53Speaker 4: very emotionally difficult afternoon on the paddle court and then...
- 22:57Speaker 4: on the afternoon drive show, then so be it. So
- 23:00Speaker 4: see you tomorrow, Carl.
- 23:01Speaker 7: See you tomorrow, brother.
- 23:03Speaker 4: See you tomorrow.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Can I tell you what I'm taking out of this
- 23:06Speaker 2: call is that I'm really happy that you listened to
- 23:07Speaker 2: the show, number one. Number two, I just want to
- 23:10Speaker 2: say that I'm so excited that you took up the
- 23:12Speaker 2: challenge and your trainer, because the thing is, Cassidy, I
- 23:15Speaker 2: don't know if you know that Natalie and Lester have
- 23:17Speaker 2: a trainer. Your trainer cannot stop talking about how impressed
- 23:21Speaker 2: he is and how you've progressed. And of course, I'm
- 23:24Speaker 2: intimidated by this. But I know for a fact that
- 23:27Speaker 2: we're going to have a good session tomorrow between 12
- 23:30Speaker 2: and 2. Cassidy, as I said, hopscotch champion, vibes champion
- 23:34Speaker 2: from Camp Spain.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I was also a single child, which means I too
- 23:37Speaker 3: was good at swing ball.
- 23:40Speaker 2: You were a single... Okay, sorry.
- 23:41Speaker 8: Single child.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I was the only child.
- 23:44Speaker 3: No, but for real. My parents had to occupy me somehow.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I spoke a lot and I had no friends.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yeah, apparently they played fetch with Cassidy sometimes.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Well, the quiet game didn't work, so.
- 24:00Speaker 2: No, Lester, thank you for really taking on the challenge.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And on a serious note, your trainer, who is in
- 24:07Speaker 2: this building, cannot stop talking about how proud he is
- 24:09Speaker 2: of you. So I'm excited to see the fruits of
- 24:11Speaker 2: your labor at the grid panel at Virgin Act of
- 24:14Speaker 2: the Point. It's going to be great, and it's for
- 24:15Speaker 2: a great cause, my friend.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Carl, I guess I know that many of the listeners
- 24:19Speaker 4: don't know that. Like, I'm in the morning, you're in
- 24:22Speaker 4: the afternoon. We're like ships in the night, our two teams.
- 24:25Speaker 4: And it's really going to be really, really great spending
- 24:29Speaker 4: at least the midday with you. It's me and Natalie
- 24:32Speaker 4: up against Carl and Cassidy. Looking forward to it. Like,
- 24:37Speaker 4: we're really taking this seriously, not because we necessarily want
- 24:40Speaker 4: to win, but we love the two of you on here.
- 24:44Speaker 4: And we love the energy that you guys bring to
- 24:46Speaker 4: the office. We just want to take a little bit
- 24:48Speaker 4: of that and use some of that at 12 noon
- 24:52Speaker 4: when we beat you at the grid.
- 24:55Speaker 3: All right.
- 24:56Speaker 2: You know what? You've laid down the paddle. Never mind gauntlet.
- 25:00Speaker 2: So we are very excited to do this. And I'll
- 25:04Speaker 2: be honest with you, we haven't had a single practice session.
- 25:07Speaker 2: But I think the reason is that we kind of
- 25:10Speaker 2: know that some people have to be trained. Others were
- 25:13Speaker 2: born with it. And we'll find out who that is tomorrow. Exactly.
- 25:18Speaker 4: I've had to train because the company has signed indemnity
- 25:23Speaker 4: of me.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So I can't play it.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I can't put in a claim like workman's compensation does
- 25:31Speaker 4: not matter.
- 25:33Speaker 2: That's so true. Oh, my word. But, okay, so tomorrow,
- 25:37Speaker 2: 12 o'clock, I mean, are we reporting 11.30? So we
- 25:39Speaker 2: can just... You know, we can just do a little
- 25:42Speaker 2: warm-up first.
- 25:43Speaker 3: I'm going to be there at 11. I need to
- 25:44Speaker 3: start checking out the game.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Okay, cool.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Going around the courts. I need to make sure my
- 25:49Speaker 3: shoes and everything are polished. Do you know what I'm saying?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Your shoes are polished. What are you doing?
- 25:53Speaker 3: I'm just going onto the turf and checking that I'm
- 25:55Speaker 3: not going to fall.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Lester, enjoy. And, of course, good luck to Natalie as well.
- 25:59Speaker 2: We'll catch you tomorrow. But otherwise, in the morning first
- 26:03Speaker 2: and then on the court.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Excellent. See you, Carl. See you, Cassie. Look forward to tomorrow. Bye-bye.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Liquor man.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Can I say one thing?
- 26:12Speaker 2: Hey, this guy.
- 26:13Speaker 1: What?
- 26:13Speaker 3: That phone call was ominous.
- 26:15Speaker 2: That was very ominous. The confidence that he showed over there. Yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 2: All right. But, I mean, I'll be very honest with
- 26:22Speaker 2: you with regard to it. It's going to be a
- 26:24Speaker 2: lot of fun.
- 26:25Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 26:26Speaker 2: The breakfast show on Cape Talk versus the afternoon drive
- 26:28Speaker 2: on KFM 94.5. But I think, you know, the station's
- 26:33Speaker 2: name will tell you everything that you need to know.
- 26:36Speaker 2: One of us talk and the other one does the actions.
- 26:39Speaker 2: You'll see that tomorrow at 12 o'clock. Yeah, you will.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Grid paddle, virgin active, the point. The point? Most of
- 26:45Speaker 2: them go to us. But it's also, no, there's a cause.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Safety parents. That is what we are doing. And if
- 26:58Speaker 2: you'd like to contribute in any way, please feel free
- 27:01Speaker 2: to contact us before tomorrow because then perhaps you want
- 27:04Speaker 2: to do, every time we score a point against Natty
- 27:06Speaker 2: and Lester, we can contribute to the cause or something
- 27:08Speaker 2: to that effect. It's with the Department of Social Development
- 27:11Speaker 2: and a really, really phenomenal way of looking after our
- 27:14Speaker 2: kids and giving them brighter futures. No matter what their circumstances,
- 27:17Speaker 2: we need to look after our children. We need to
- 27:19Speaker 2: look after our future. But first, let's take care of
- 27:22Speaker 2: Lester and Natalie. It is Aliyah. It's called Try Again.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It's on your show, your flash drive, KFN 94.5. Now, Cassidy,
- 27:30Speaker 2: as promised, I would like to bring in somebody very,
- 27:34Speaker 2: very special. But first and foremost, I wanted to do
- 27:37Speaker 2: a little musical journey. I want you to come with
- 27:40Speaker 2: me on a musical journey because I think for a
- 27:43Speaker 2: fact that this particular individual, before we introduce, I feel
- 27:47Speaker 2: like it's been one of the most consistent voices in
- 27:49Speaker 2: South African music culture. An individual who has brought not
- 27:53Speaker 2: only energy, but a certain authenticity and an integrity to
- 27:57Speaker 2: the music that has honestly paid homage to not only
- 28:01Speaker 2: the South African music landscape, but the culture. The culture
- 28:04Speaker 2: behind the music is more important. All the way, From
- 28:08Speaker 2: 2003 when I matriculated Cassidy, by the way. I matriculated.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I wanted to give this person. Hey, I wanted to
- 28:17Speaker 2: give this person an opportunity before we introduce properly. So
- 28:22Speaker 2: let's go on a journey.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Okay, fine.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Are we going to go on a journey? Just walk
- 28:25Speaker 2: with me on this.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Just 2003. That's when you matriculated. That's crazy.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It is crazy.
- 28:30Speaker 8: You're not supposed to talk here. It's the masked singer.
- 28:33Speaker 8: They'll never know who this is.
- 28:36Speaker 2: This? It's a big surprise.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Okay.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Follow me on this journey. Are you ready?
- 28:41Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Okay, lock in. I want to take you all the
- 28:43Speaker 2: way back, way back, back in the times. The cold
- 28:58Speaker 2: is warm, oh, you say warm.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Oh, I swear to the dressing.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I've changed. I've changed.
- 29:05Speaker 3: I've changed.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I've changed. I've changed. This time for Africa.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Oh, come on.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Come on.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Now. This time for Africa.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Oh, come on.
- 29:57Speaker 8: Can I do it?
- 30:06Speaker 2: Please welcome to the mic, Zolani Mahola.
- 30:10Speaker 8: Well, well, well, well, well, well.
- 30:19Speaker 2: It has been decades, hundreds of years since we've had
- 30:22Speaker 2: this opportunity to chat to you on this show. I
- 30:24Speaker 2: know it's terrible of me.
- 30:26Speaker 8: And look at how fresh faced we still all look.
- 30:28Speaker 8: yeah hey how is this possible look at.
- 30:31Speaker 2: That I mean I got a bit grey in my.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Beard now you did get a little bit listen you
- 30:35Speaker 8: did get a little bit grey but the fact that
- 30:36Speaker 8: in 2003 you were in matric.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yo crazy I mean do you wanna I mean this
- 30:44Speaker 2: one over here.
- 30:45Speaker 3: How old were you babes I was 2014 I matriculated
- 30:49Speaker 3: I was 10 years younger oh no I was 8
- 30:51Speaker 3: oh no what's happening.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Are you going to share how old you were in 2003?
- 30:59Speaker 2: Do you see? That's, yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 8: I matriculated four years before you.
- 31:04Speaker 4: What?
- 31:05Speaker 8: In 99, I matriculated before the turn of the century.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Pietras is doing this.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because obviously the producer of the show, Pietras,
- 31:11Speaker 2: 99 as well. You too. Yes, there we go.
- 31:13Speaker 3: All right, baby.
- 31:13Speaker 2: All right. Well, welcome, Zolani. It's been way too long.
- 31:18Speaker 2: And just listening back to all those, the reason why
- 31:21Speaker 2: I do that is because I just want to say
- 31:24Speaker 2: that this is, honestly, this is the palace you've built,
- 31:28Speaker 2: my queen.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Oh, man, Karl.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Really, that's the palace you have built. When people hear
- 31:32Speaker 2: your voice, they know that they're home. To have that,
- 31:37Speaker 2: to have that on your shoulders, Zolane Mahola, I.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Mean, think about it.
- 31:40Speaker 8: I wear it like a badge.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Yes, it is a badge.
- 31:42Speaker 8: It's a badge of honor. It is a badge of honor.
- 31:44Speaker 2: It really is.
- 31:44Speaker 8: It's a beautiful thing.
- 31:45Speaker 2: But it takes hard work. It really does to actually
- 31:47Speaker 2: be that consistent. 2010. 2003, maybe even earlier than that.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It was earlier, in fact. You know, it was earlier.
- 31:53Speaker 2: But I remember 2003 specifically for the Doobie Doo. Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I do. But there was even something before that as well.
- 31:59Speaker 2: I know that there were tracks like Castles.
- 32:01Speaker 8: There was an album before the Castles in the Sky.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Yes.
- 32:03Speaker 8: Carl, you know my discography.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I do. But not because I'm a really big fan.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I have been since clearly.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I kiss him.
- 32:09Speaker 2: I kiss him. I was in Matrick and beyond. Come on.
- 32:14Speaker 2: But to know that, to wear that as a badge,
- 32:16Speaker 2: looking back and knowing that you still have so much
- 32:19Speaker 2: to give.
- 32:20Speaker 8: So much to give. I can't believe it. I can't
- 32:22Speaker 8: believe that this album that I'm about to release is
- 32:26Speaker 8: my ninth studio album. That is a crazy, crazy thing.
- 32:32Speaker 8: Like how many songs have come through this vessel that
- 32:35Speaker 8: is I and I.
- 32:37Speaker 2: So beautiful. Yeah. And it's great because it's had its
- 32:40Speaker 2: different shades. You know, it has. It's had a freshly ground. Oh,
- 32:43Speaker 2: my goodness. The one who sings.
- 32:45Speaker 8: Oh, absolutely. In fact, most of it was with the
- 32:48Speaker 8: freshly ground crew, as you say.
- 32:49Speaker 2: 17 years.
- 32:51Speaker 3: 17 years.
- 32:52Speaker 8: Incredible collaborations with all of those musicians. You know, I mean, like,
- 32:56Speaker 8: I think the really amazing thing about freshly ground was
- 32:59Speaker 8: just how.
- 33:02Speaker 8: The different elements just came together to create something that
- 33:05Speaker 8: was just so pow, pow, new, you know, for so
- 33:08Speaker 8: many of us. What an incredible journey. And then to
- 33:11Speaker 8: move forward from there, as you say, Carl, you know,
- 33:13Speaker 8: into The One Who Sings.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Yes.
- 33:15Speaker 8: And now backslap bang into Zolani Maola. It's just been
- 33:18Speaker 8: a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful circular journey.
- 33:21Speaker 2: And the journey itself to be locked into a freshly
- 33:24Speaker 2: ground unit for 17 years and then become the one
- 33:27Speaker 2: who sings a new project. A whole new entity, yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 2: And then, of course, now to be Zolani. I mean,
- 33:33Speaker 2: you're tracking through. This is the same person through projects.
- 33:37Speaker 2: So I would like to know, just in terms of identity-wise,
- 33:40Speaker 2: just making sure that Zolani is true to Zolani all
- 33:44Speaker 2: the way through. I mean, that's a challenge. It really is.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Because there are different sides of yourself, of course, right?
- 33:50Speaker 8: Oh, a thousand percent. But for me, you know, Carl,
- 33:53Speaker 8: like the really awesome thing that I can observe in
- 33:57Speaker 8: my life and that I'm grateful for is even though
- 34:00Speaker 8: it's the same me and it's the same voice, there's
- 34:02Speaker 8: a lot of transformation. I feel in myself so much transformation,
- 34:07Speaker 8: particularly now at this stage of the game where I've
- 34:11Speaker 8: really come to really know my values. you know, like
- 34:17Speaker 8: as a muso, as a songwriter, as a mom, as
- 34:21Speaker 8: a citizen, and just coming into my own, releasing this
- 34:26Speaker 8: album for the first time under my own name, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 8: because I released my first solo album under the one
- 34:30Speaker 8: who sings.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:32Speaker 8: And so it feels really momentous.
- 34:36Speaker 2: It is momentous.
- 34:37Speaker 8: Yeah, it feels momentous.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Because there's something about the power … within the people
- 34:43Speaker 2: and what is behind the people, which is their culture,
- 34:46Speaker 2: their roots, and where they come from. And that's why
- 34:48Speaker 2: when I heard Cosa Nostra with Bravo Leroux, the late great,
- 34:52Speaker 2: I felt all the emotion, of course, because, you know,
- 34:56Speaker 2: there was sentiment behind that. But then I was like,
- 34:58Speaker 2: that's right. Like, I know Cosa Nostra is so big
- 35:01Speaker 2: and gratuitous, but, like, you've added Cosa. And I was like, yes,
- 35:05Speaker 2: because there was such depth in it. And do you
- 35:09Speaker 2: feel like the real– stance that you've taken with regard
- 35:11Speaker 2: to identity in your life was from saying that you
- 35:14Speaker 2: are a proud Xhosa woman.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And you need to lean into that more than you
- 35:19Speaker 2: ever have in your entire career.
- 35:21Speaker 8: I would say that I think it's, I think it's
- 35:23Speaker 8: a lot, there's so much reclamation kinds of things in,
- 35:27Speaker 8: in this, in this body of work that, um, that
- 35:29Speaker 8: is fully coming out next year, but that Xhosa Nostra
- 35:31Speaker 8: is a big part of, um, that for me, I've
- 35:35Speaker 8: had such a, such a reconnection to my sense of
- 35:39Speaker 8: self through, um, exploring the cultural backdrop that I came from.
- 35:43Speaker 8: My father was a huge traditionalist. He also was a
- 35:47Speaker 8: Catholic and a Christian, but he also practiced his Xhosa rites.
- 35:52Speaker 8: And so we grew up with a lot of ceremonies
- 35:54Speaker 8: at home. And when I moved to the Western Cape,
- 35:57Speaker 8: when I moved to Cape Town in 2000, I didn't
- 36:01Speaker 8: do any of that stuff. I kind of just like,
- 36:03Speaker 8: you know, live my best life, which was fine. But
- 36:06Speaker 8: in 2020, I started diving in the sea for the
- 36:09Speaker 8: first time. And in that process of diving in the sea,
- 36:12Speaker 8: weirdly reconnected with my ancestral cultural roots. And that journey
- 36:18Speaker 8: has really informed a lot of the music that is
- 36:21Speaker 8: on this album right now.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And the album's name, the reason why it's strategically placing
- 36:26Speaker 2: power in people.
- 36:26Speaker 8: Yes, I loved it.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm glad you noticed.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 36:29Speaker 2: It's people... And power, you've put those two words together.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And of course, we've heard it in different iterations in
- 36:35Speaker 2: our time. Power to the people.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Yes.
- 36:37Speaker 2: And that sort of thing. But people power.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Yes.
- 36:39Speaker 2: It seems like you are saying that there is a
- 36:42Speaker 2: lot of connection. And there's a lot of importance in
- 36:45Speaker 2: us leaning on one another as not only an individual,
- 36:48Speaker 2: but as a nation, because we are people through other people.
- 36:51Speaker 8: Thank you very much.
- 36:52Speaker 2: There's even a term we have in Xhosa, I like that.
- 36:55Speaker 8: I know that term.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Of course you do.
- 36:56Speaker 8: Xhosa bondo.
- 36:57Speaker 2: That's it. And we have that. So is that where this...
- 37:01Speaker 2: Is that the center of people power?
- 37:02Speaker 8: It 1,000% comes from that. I've alluded to the fact
- 37:05Speaker 8: that I've gone on an individual journey.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Yes, you have.
- 37:09Speaker 8: And I believe that we all.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Need to do that.
- 37:12Speaker 8: We all need to go through these journeys of finding
- 37:14Speaker 8: our voices and our purposes. But then we come together
- 37:17Speaker 8: as a collective. I mean, I grew up in the
- 37:20Speaker 8: 80s in a whole different South Africa where the country
- 37:25Speaker 8: was calling for change, you know, was calling for freedom.
- 37:29Speaker 8: And I remember being, as a very small child, kind
- 37:32Speaker 8: of being in this mass of people moving and agitating
- 37:36Speaker 8: and singing and dancing and calling for change and i
- 37:38Speaker 8: have people in my family who were in the struggle
- 37:41Speaker 8: as well you know to end apartheid and it was
- 37:45Speaker 8: that energy that collective energy that brought about the end
- 37:49Speaker 8: of apartheid it is very sad that so many of
- 37:52Speaker 8: our leaders of that struggle movement have really betrayed the
- 37:56Speaker 8: people many of them have betrayed us um but that's
- 38:01Speaker 8: not to say that we now We, Carl, you, me, Cassidy,
- 38:06Speaker 8: we can't use our voices for the good of this nation.
- 38:09Speaker 8: So this is what this album is about. It is
- 38:12Speaker 8: about us reclaiming our voices individually and collectively. That is
- 38:16Speaker 8: why it's called People Power.
- 38:17Speaker 2: And that's a beautiful, beautiful thing. And part of that
- 38:20Speaker 2: is also you putting you into this thing. You know,
- 38:23Speaker 2: I know that there's a lot of power to the people. But,
- 38:25Speaker 2: I mean, there's also Zolani. And we need to find
- 38:28Speaker 2: out more about you and connect with you. So, Rosa Nostra. Like,
- 38:32Speaker 2: there was like a thing in there. And I was like, yes.
- 38:35Speaker 2: And then, there's a good time. Which is a song
- 38:37Speaker 2: that you're about to drop.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Did it?
- 38:39Speaker 2: For the first time in South Africa, and it's going
- 38:42Speaker 2: to be a massive exclusive. But before we get to that,
- 38:44Speaker 2: I have some lingering questions that I've been asked to
- 38:47Speaker 2: ask you.
- 38:48Speaker 8: I'm ready to answer.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Are you sure?
- 38:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 2: They're kind of off the beaten track. That's okay. Cassidy,
- 38:54Speaker 2: if you have any as well, this is the time
- 38:56Speaker 2: before we get to the new single. If you have
- 38:57Speaker 2: any of those, but I'm going to start off right.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Yeah, go for it.
- 38:59Speaker 2: I was asked, where's my phone? Where's my phone?
- 39:02Speaker 8: Oh, my gosh.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Sorry. I was asked.
- 39:03Speaker 8: The fact that he has to read it.
- 39:04Speaker 2: No, no, because this came through other people. It said,
- 39:08Speaker 2: all right, so, Carl, please, Arsulani, does she still have
- 39:12Speaker 2: Shakira's number?
- 39:13Speaker 1: Yep. Yep.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 39:14Speaker 8: I mean, I actually was talking to her just now.
- 39:17Speaker 8: You know, we were just, no, I don't have Shakira's number.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Why you don't?
- 39:21Speaker 8: Neither have I ever had Shakira's number. No.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Oh. I love this.
- 39:27Speaker 3: The giggle.
- 39:28Speaker 2: No, but there's something more.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Is it a giggle?
- 39:30Speaker 8: Or is it a cackle?
- 39:30Speaker 5: It's a both.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's a both.
- 39:31Speaker 3: It's whatever you want it to be.
- 39:33Speaker 2: There's tea there.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Stop.
- 39:35Speaker 2: There's tea there. I don't know what it is, right?
- 39:37Speaker 8: No, there's no tea. It's all on the floor.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 39:39Speaker 8: Carry on. This is interesting, eh?
- 39:46Speaker 3: Okay. Next.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Okay, next question. Do you want to go for it?
- 39:49Speaker 3: Oh, okay. I think this one's actually just coming from me.
- 39:52Speaker 3: But more so because I'm such a fan.
- 39:55Speaker 8: Bring it.
- 39:56Speaker 3: There was a dubstep remix.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Yes.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Of one of your songs.
- 39:59Speaker 8: I'd like, I think it was.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Yes.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Oh my, how, what was like, what was the reason
- 40:03Speaker 3: behind that? Cause I mean, I loved when, like when
- 40:05Speaker 3: my family goes away, the first thing they do is
- 40:07Speaker 3: they put on your music cause it makes them feel
- 40:09Speaker 3: like home.
- 40:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 40:11Speaker 3: But that was so interesting, that little journey. So what
- 40:14Speaker 3: was the reason behind that?
- 40:16Speaker 8: I think that that was, that might've been an illegal remix.
- 40:19Speaker 4: No.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Yes. Yes.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Cause you were so aware of it.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:23Speaker 8: We, it took us a while to be, to be
- 40:25Speaker 8: aware of, of, of it.
- 40:26Speaker 3: But, You know what?
- 40:27Speaker 8: It was cool because it exposed the song and the
- 40:30Speaker 8: band to a whole lot of other people who ordinarily
- 40:33Speaker 8: wouldn't necessarily have... Oh.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Oh.
- 40:36Speaker 3: Here it is. Here it is. Oh, I love this.
- 40:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Oh.
- 40:44Speaker 7: Oh.
- 40:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:51Speaker 1: The remix.
- 40:51Speaker 2: The remix.
- 40:52Speaker 6: The remix.
- 40:58Speaker 2: So you said this was an illegal one?
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I mean, that rocks.
- 41:02Speaker 3: I really love.
- 41:04Speaker 1: It.
- 41:04Speaker 3: But you're so right. The people that were listening to
- 41:07Speaker 3: this were definitely not listening to Instagram. And you put
- 41:10Speaker 3: them on. Listen.
- 41:12Speaker 5: Wow.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Now they're like, whoa, that chorus, that is a hook.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 41:16Speaker 8: So you don't mind.
- 41:18Speaker 2: A nice sneaky remix every now and then, right?
- 41:21Speaker 8: No, no, no, listen now.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I'm just asking for a friend who likes yacht music.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Because you know that in Cape Town, we are all
- 41:27Speaker 2: subject to a bit of yacht remix. You know, when
- 41:29Speaker 2: you drop a song, they're like, I like this. I
- 41:30Speaker 2: need the stems. I want to make a yacht.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 41:33Speaker 2: So you find us remixes.
- 41:34Speaker 8: I mean, talk to me.
- 41:37Speaker 2: DM you and make it happen, right?
- 41:39Speaker 4: DM me.
- 41:40Speaker 8: Let's do it properly.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Totally. Otherwise, you end up with this. time okay so
- 41:57Speaker 2: yeah that's see.
- 41:57Speaker 5: Him i know i was fully immersed apologies kind of
- 42:00Speaker 5: sexy thank you very much i appreciate you all right
- 42:03Speaker 5: so here's the thing okay last question from this is
- 42:07Speaker 5: from my side um there were these these textures in
- 42:09Speaker 5: your career and these textures had you alongside stevie wonder.
- 42:15Speaker 8: Now my hero my hero that's my idol.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Ribbons in the Sky is one of my favorite songs
- 42:21Speaker 2: in the entire... So I just wanted to ask you
- 42:22Speaker 2: from a fan of Stevie Wonder and a fan of
- 42:24Speaker 2: Zolani at the same time. My head would explode if
- 42:26Speaker 2: you were in the same room at the same time.
- 42:27Speaker 2: But like, how was that? How easy?
- 42:31Speaker 8: Full disclosure, we never actually had a conversation, but I
- 42:34Speaker 8: was at his piano and I was singing... At his piano? Listen,
- 42:40Speaker 8: touching his piano while he was actually actively playing it.
- 42:43Speaker 3: So I did die. I did die. I would too.
- 42:46Speaker 3: I did die.
- 42:47Speaker 8: And we were singing happy birthday to my diva and
- 42:50Speaker 8: one of the 46664s in New York City at Radio
- 42:53Speaker 8: City Music Hall. And can I just tell you that
- 42:56Speaker 8: I also was in the elevator with Miss Aretha Franklin
- 42:59Speaker 8: at that same event.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Diva, come on.
- 43:02Speaker 8: And I did not say a peep because it was
- 43:04Speaker 8: Aretha Franklin.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Did you?
- 43:06Speaker 8: Does Aretha Franklin?
- 43:07Speaker 2: You know what I would have said to her? What
- 43:09Speaker 2: would you have said? Hi, ma'am. How do you spell respect?
- 43:14Speaker 2: Asking for a friend.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Oh, Mr.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Wastedy.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Sorry, what? Say it again.
- 43:19Speaker 8: I think she just slapped you. Yes, I know.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I'd do the same thing with Gwen Stefani, by the way.
- 43:26Speaker 3: How do you spell bananas?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Exactly. Oh my God. So now that we've, I just
- 43:30Speaker 2: had to clear that up and now we can talk
- 43:31Speaker 2: about a track because it's been a good time having
- 43:34Speaker 2: you back in studio. And long shall it continue, by
- 43:36Speaker 2: the way, because we should. But a good time. Set
- 43:40Speaker 2: the scene for us before we play this track as
- 43:42Speaker 2: an exclusive on the Flash Drive. Zolani Mahola. Complete exclusive.
- 43:44Speaker 8: This was the first song that I worked on with
- 43:47Speaker 8: my producer, Hannah Vee. who is a Grammy-nominated producer who
- 43:51Speaker 8: has produced my entire album. This was the first session
- 43:55Speaker 8: that we had together. And I went into the studio
- 43:57Speaker 8: and I had this chorus that was running in my
- 43:59Speaker 8: head for a long time. And it was just, you
- 44:01Speaker 8: picked a good time to meet me. I just want
- 44:03Speaker 8: to love you sweetly. So we went into the studio
- 44:06Speaker 8: and Manga K was also there. Aron Halevi, who actually
- 44:08Speaker 8: started Freshly Ground back in 2001. We together wrote this song,
- 44:14Speaker 8: this banger, A Good Time. And it's a sexy song.
- 44:17Speaker 2: It is really. I picture.
- 44:19Speaker 8: It is a sexy song. It's a very sexy song
- 44:21Speaker 8: because I'm ready to be sexy, guys. At 45 years old,
- 44:25Speaker 8: I am now ready to be sexy so your applications
- 44:29Speaker 8: can come into Zolani Maola across all platforms.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Are you inviting DMs?
- 44:35Speaker 8: I mean, kind of. I'm free now. I'm single.
- 44:38Speaker 2: 23 plus tax is what I want.
- 44:44Speaker 8: You heard it here first.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Honestly, a good time is the first single. Next one's
- 44:48Speaker 2: called Swipe Right.
- 44:49Speaker 3: You can.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to People Power. I cannot wait until
- 44:57Speaker 2: this drops officially. You can't give us an idea of
- 44:59Speaker 2: like where in 2027 we can expect the full project
- 45:02Speaker 2: to drop?
- 45:03Speaker 3: Early-ish.
- 45:03Speaker 8: But I don't want to say so because I would
- 45:05Speaker 8: like to encourage people to please go and follow on
- 45:09Speaker 8: all my socials, Zolani Maol, and also on all the
- 45:12Speaker 8: streaming platforms where you listen to music. It means a
- 45:14Speaker 8: great deal to all artists. Now things have changed so radically,
- 45:18Speaker 8: you know, the way that music is consumed and the
- 45:20Speaker 8: way that artists earn. that it's such a business thing,
- 45:23Speaker 8: the numbers. Please follow, follow, follow, and then you'll be
- 45:26Speaker 8: the first to know.
- 45:27Speaker 2: And you know what? I think let's just strengthen that
- 45:29Speaker 2: for a second because I think what's very important is
- 45:30Speaker 2: those pre-saves allow you to land onto a bunch of
- 45:34Speaker 2: different of these radar playlists. And it exposes our artists
- 45:39Speaker 2: to international connections. And that's what we need because that's
- 45:42Speaker 2: how we can start generating international tours, how we can
- 45:45Speaker 2: start generating more people to consume the music. And the
- 45:48Speaker 2: only way we can do that is that When you
- 45:49Speaker 2: hear that radio interview, when you see that artist posting,
- 45:53Speaker 2: this is coming out soon, the first thing that I
- 45:56Speaker 2: want you to do is to pre-save and even actually
- 45:58Speaker 2: create a story of you pre-saving so that your following
- 46:01Speaker 2: in turn says, why are you pre-saving this? And say like,
- 46:04Speaker 2: you better get into it because when it drops, you're
- 46:06Speaker 2: going to love it. Like that's where we need more
- 46:08Speaker 2: of that culture of actually developing our music industry because
- 46:13Speaker 2: it's in our hands. The power is with the people
- 46:15Speaker 2: who consume the music.
- 46:16Speaker 8: I've just got one thing to say, swipe right.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Oh!
- 46:19Speaker 3: Swipe right.
- 46:21Speaker 2: That sounds like a good time. It sounds like a
- 46:24Speaker 2: really good time. Woo! Okay. Why am I sweating? I
- 46:28Speaker 2: tell you what. You will get, okay, now Cassidy knows
- 46:33Speaker 2: I do this, but I will give you the song
- 46:36Speaker 2: as an exclusive right after we tap into some news
- 46:40Speaker 2: and sport. I know, Cassidy, you've got some details on
- 46:42Speaker 2: the road.
- 46:43Speaker 3: I do.
- 46:43Speaker 2: And then we'll give you the official exclusive of A
- 46:46Speaker 2: Good Time, Zolano Mohola's new project, People Power, coming soon.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Consume the music. And may I just also add that
- 46:53Speaker 2: if you find Cosa Nostra on your streaming platform, add
- 46:56Speaker 2: that too.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 46:57Speaker 8: And Where You Are, the single that I just dropped
- 47:00Speaker 8: with Zakes Bandwini.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:01Speaker 2: You just dropped that. But how is it that I
- 47:03Speaker 2: played that twice already on my chart show?
- 47:05Speaker 8: I literally just dropped that. I also dropped a track
- 47:08Speaker 8: called Amakosa. I mean, it's like, guys, just if you're
- 47:10Speaker 8: not following already, why not?
- 47:12Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 47:12Speaker 8: Where have you been? You're missing out.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Jolie, stop.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Can you just imagine if I had both of those
- 47:18Speaker 2: songs ready for a snippet? Like, this is where you are.
- 47:40Speaker 2: It just sounds like summer. It sounds like we're going
- 47:42Speaker 2: to have a great summer. It also sounds like summer.
- 47:47Speaker 8: Oh, you know, multiple summer. Multiple summers.
- 47:51Speaker 2: It does. And don't worry, because the thing is, because
- 47:54Speaker 2: I'm a fan of yours, I make it my business
- 47:56Speaker 2: to receive all songs. So... Okay. Cassidy. Don't come here.
- 48:09Speaker 8: Yo, yo, yo, I won't, I won't Only love before
- 48:14Speaker 8: me Taboos stand behind me.
- 48:18Speaker 3: There's no difference in the voice, even when it's live
- 48:23Speaker 3: and in concert, man.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Honestly, you're listening to the ruler of hula. That's what
- 48:31Speaker 2: you're doing right there.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Live and in concert.
- 48:34Speaker 8: 4K, y'all.
- 48:36Speaker 2: All right, so you've got some homework to do for Zolani.
- 48:39Speaker 2: And in the next couple of minutes, you'll hear a
- 48:40Speaker 2: good time. This is your flash drive. It's KFM 94.5.
- 48:44Speaker 2: And this is a brand new project. So people power.
- 48:47Speaker 2: is coming to you in 2027. Don't miss it. But
- 48:49Speaker 2: in the meantime, follow, follow, swipe, DM, support the music.
- 48:55Speaker 8: Slide.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 2: And the person. Oh my dear. Too much. Okay, sorry.
- 49:02Speaker 2: We'll retract that. Over to Cassidy, are you going to
- 49:05Speaker 2: be able to do some traffic after all of that
- 49:06Speaker 2: excitement right now? I will do my best. Okay, good. Okay,
- 49:14Speaker 2: that song obviously just sounded like so much fun to record,
- 49:18Speaker 2: number one.
- 49:18Speaker 8: It was so much fun.
- 49:20Speaker 2: And also, what are you saying? You've picked a good
- 49:22Speaker 2: time to meet me.
- 49:24Speaker 5: Yes.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. Why would you say that? You know why
- 49:29Speaker 2: I say it? I need to hear this.
- 49:30Speaker 8: I say it because, you know, we're always changing as
- 49:34Speaker 8: human beings. And I think that is one of the
- 49:36Speaker 8: invitations of life is that we– we do transform and
- 49:40Speaker 8: become more and more and more of ourselves.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 49:44Speaker 8: And so I think in this time and space, somebody
- 49:47Speaker 8: would be very lucky to meet me as I am
- 49:49Speaker 8: in this now.
- 49:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Of course.
- 49:51Speaker 1: In it.
- 49:53Speaker 2: I believe this wholeheartedly. I know people have believed it
- 49:55Speaker 2: as well. The message has come through.
- 49:57Speaker 3: That is fire, fire.
- 49:59Speaker 4: There's no doubt.
- 50:03Speaker 5: Fire. Yeah.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Yes. Zolana, you want to be sexy? Oh, this is sexy.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Should we leave? Carl, was that you? No, no, no.
- 50:15Speaker 2: That was the gentleman's real voice. I have to put
- 50:18Speaker 2: it on. All right, I'm sorry.
- 50:19Speaker 8: That was kind of cool. I mean, I'm into it.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Dear person, you know what to do.
- 50:28Speaker 3: Her DMs are over there.
- 50:31Speaker 2: That song, all right, that song is available for you
- 50:34Speaker 2: to slide into.
- 50:37Speaker 8: On Friday.
- 50:41Speaker 2: So we can go to your profile and we can
- 50:43Speaker 2: pre-save there, right? Is that where it is?
- 50:45Speaker 8: The answer to that question is yes.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yes, that is a definite yes.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Yes, obviously.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Because that's where you go. That's obviously when you pre-save something.
- 50:56Speaker 8: That is right. Zolani Maola. Go there.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Just go there.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Or you can go onto the page. You can go
- 51:02Speaker 2: onto the page on your streaming platform and then find
- 51:05Speaker 2: Zorani Mahola. That's what you must do. And that's where
- 51:08Speaker 2: you can pre-save. And then on Friday, I can skirt Mahola.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Just for Zolani.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Diva, yes. Diva, yes.
- 51:17Speaker 2: That's right.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Get into it.
- 51:18Speaker 2: You know what? Oh, Lord. You picked a great time
- 51:21Speaker 2: to meet me. Oh, baby.
- 51:23Speaker 8: I just want to love you sweetly.
- 51:26Speaker 2: No, this is so good. Zolani, thank you so much
- 51:28Speaker 2: for joining us on The Flash Drive today. It's been
- 51:29Speaker 2: such a joy. Honestly, you bring light and happiness wherever
- 51:32Speaker 2: you go.
- 51:33Speaker 8: It's same to you, babes.
- 51:34Speaker 3: You do.
- 51:35Speaker 2: You do. And it's been special. So please go grab
- 51:38Speaker 2: it pre-save now. A good time out Friday.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Bye.
- 51:42Speaker 2: All right, it's time for a brand new prize and
- 51:45Speaker 2: a brand new concept. Just yesterday, it was a lot
- 51:48Speaker 2: of fun hearing someone figure it all out. I know
- 51:51Speaker 2: it was a bit tough, but I was just very,
- 51:53Speaker 2: very impressed because you were outstanding when it came to
- 51:56Speaker 2: the concept and finally just figured it out. But, you know, Kaylin,
- 51:59Speaker 2: it's a new day, a new prize.
- 52:01Speaker 8: Oh, yes, I'm so excited.
- 52:04Speaker 2: Okay, did you get the last one, though? Did you
- 52:06Speaker 2: get the one that was revealed yesterday? No, I didn't,
- 52:10Speaker 2: but it's fun. No, it's fine. I'll give you a
- 52:12Speaker 2: clue as to what the answer was. That was yesterday.
- 52:17Speaker 2: So now... I love it.
- 52:20Speaker 3: I love it.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I love it. Now we've got a brand new one.
- 52:22Speaker 2: So this could be anything. Whatever's on this piece of paper,
- 52:24Speaker 2: what Cassidy and I will do, we'll try to help
- 52:27Speaker 2: you figure it out. Answer the question.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Did I guess?
- 52:31Speaker 8: You're asking me nonsense?
- 52:33Speaker 4: Tell me again.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Here we go. Kalen, you have two single word clues.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And up for grabs is an 11,000 rand in Swallow's
- 52:44Speaker 2: Summer House. A one night stay for bed and breakfast.
- 52:48Speaker 2: They have these summer houses on the property. This is
- 52:51Speaker 2: valid outside of peak season. That is the T's and C's.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Excludes a stay from 1 to 25 Feb, 15 to
- 52:57Speaker 2: 31 December. As well as public holidays, however, subject to availability.
- 53:01Speaker 2: and advance reservation. However, the Tensualo Summer House could be yours.
- 53:05Speaker 2: A luxury boutique hotel nestled in Glencairn where relaxed coastal
- 53:10Speaker 2: living meets warm South African hospitality. It's a bunch of
- 53:14Speaker 2: for your life. Kaylin, your first word is.
- 53:22Speaker 3: Can I say?
- 53:22Speaker 2: Yeah. That's why I did is pause because you.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Must follow the pause.
- 53:28Speaker 7: Okay.
- 53:28Speaker 3: My word that I'm going to give you is fight. Fight.
- 53:33Speaker 7: Okay, bye.
- 53:36Speaker 2: That's with an F, by the way, okay?
- 53:39Speaker 5: Okay.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it. What's with an F? Boxing? Boxing.
- 53:45Speaker 8: Ding, ding, ding.
- 53:46Speaker 2: Dun, dun, dun. Is it the concept? Dun, dun, dun.
- 53:50Speaker 2: It's a KO.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 53:54Speaker 8: That's fine.
- 53:55Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Okay.
- 53:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, it's okay. So, I mean, my word
- 54:00Speaker 2: is broom.
- 54:03Speaker 4: Room. Yeah.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Okay.
- 54:06Speaker 2: What's your guess? Talk to me. I'm going to say....
- 54:12Speaker 3: Dust.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Say that again. What did you say now?
- 54:17Speaker 3: Dust.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Did you say... I'm trying to hear what you said there.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Spot it out for me quickly.
- 54:23Speaker 3: You said.
- 54:23Speaker 4: D-U-S-T.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Dust. Ah, dust. Dust is.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Incorrect, unfortunately. But Kaylin, thank you for giving it a try.
- 54:36Speaker 2: I appreciate you. And please continue trying. You never know
- 54:38Speaker 2: when you're going to get another shot at guessing a
- 54:40Speaker 2: fresh concept with a brand new prize gifted to us
- 54:44Speaker 2: by Tinswallow Summer House. That's actually the social media. It
- 54:48Speaker 2: is going to be a beautiful stay for you and
- 54:50Speaker 2: a significant other, a beautiful one-night stay, bed and breakfast.
- 54:54Speaker 2: This all valued at $ 11. Get involved tomorrow. On KFM 94.5.
- 54:59Speaker 6: Yaku!
- 55:07Speaker 3: Hello, how are you, Carl?
- 55:08Speaker 2: Oh, great. Always nice to hear the calmness in your voice, Yaku.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Well done.
- 55:13Speaker 4: There's no calm in my voice.
- 55:14Speaker 2: There's so much calm in your voice. I love listening
- 55:17Speaker 2: to you. And you're an electrician. You're supposed to be
- 55:20Speaker 2: someone that shocks easily. But you, Munir, you're calm and relaxed.
- 55:25Speaker 2: I like it. Thank you. You got this, man. I
- 55:29Speaker 2: know you do. Here is your opponent. Let's meet them. Hello, Giovanni.
- 55:33Speaker 7: Good afternoon.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Good afternoon, Giovanni.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Giovanni.
- 55:36Speaker 2: From Mitchell's Plain, which is a very big area. Do
- 55:38Speaker 2: you want to narrow it down? Which part of Mitchell's Plain?
- 55:43Speaker 3: I live in Morgan's Village. Mitchell's Plain opposite the Westridge
- 55:46Speaker 3: Fire Station.
- 55:47Speaker 2: There we go. You see, there are so many little facets.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Like when I tell people my auntie lives in Montrose Park,
- 55:52Speaker 2: they don't know where it is. They're like, where? It's
- 55:57Speaker 2: like by Mandalay. Where's Mandalay? But it's like there. You know,
- 56:01Speaker 2: it's a long thing. So I get it, brother. But
- 56:04Speaker 2: let's do this thing. Yaku is waiting from Strand. You're representing.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Do you want to go first or second?
- 56:09Speaker 4: I'll go second, please.
- 56:12Speaker 2: All right. Giovanni, you are up first. This is how
- 56:15Speaker 2: it works. I have five questions for you. You'll have
- 56:18Speaker 2: 30 seconds to answer them all, hopefully correctly. And your
- 56:23Speaker 2: flash word, Giovanni, is pull. So it could be spelt
- 56:26Speaker 2: in a variety of ways. It can be phonetic. So P-L-E-P-I-L-P-A-L-P-O-L.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You know how it goes. You just need to figure
- 56:33Speaker 2: it out. Are you ready?
- 56:35Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 56:35Speaker 2: All right, pull. Your time begins in three, two, one.
- 56:41Speaker 2: Let's do it. A school headmaster.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Principal.
- 56:45Speaker 2: SpongeBob's home. Pineapple. The opening in the center of the iris. Pupil.
- 56:54Speaker 2: A surgeon's knife.
- 56:57Speaker 7: Scalpel.
- 56:58Speaker 2: Hansa, make this. Also. Say it again. Pulsar.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Answer Pulsar.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Pulsna.
- 57:13Speaker 1: No!
- 57:14Speaker 3: You said it should.
- 57:16Speaker 2: You have to say that earlier. Sorry, my judges said
- 57:19Speaker 2: Pulsar is not a thing. I'm not sure it's because
- 57:22Speaker 2: they drink. I don't know, but it's Pulsna. It's not Pulsar.
- 57:27Speaker 2: And you said Pulsna after the buzzer. I'm sorry, brother. Okay,
- 57:29Speaker 2: that's four out of five. A technicality. Yaku....
- 57:34Speaker 8: Yes, go.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Show me something. 30 seconds.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Pull.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Your time begins in 3, 2, 1. Let's go. A scholar.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Pupil.
- 57:43Speaker 2: A type of canned fish.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Skip.
- 57:48Speaker 2: The cars Astra and Corsa are from this brand. Opal.
- 57:53Speaker 2: A zit.
- 57:56Speaker 7: Pumple.
- 57:58Speaker 2: The syrup of Canada. Maple. A type of canned fish. Ah, yes.
- 58:10Speaker 2: Four as well. We're going to a tiebreaker with this one.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Exciting times. Have you ever had pulchards?
- 58:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 58:19Speaker 4: I've heard about that.
- 58:20Speaker 2: Have you never had pulchards? I don't think I've ever
- 58:22Speaker 2: had that.
- 58:22Speaker 4: Yaku.
- 58:22Speaker 2: No. You are missing out. Brother man. Pulchards?
- 58:25Speaker 4: Yes.
- 58:26Speaker 2: It's like you pulchards on white bread. With what I
- 58:30Speaker 2: can only describe as duck butter. Like that's what you
- 58:32Speaker 2: need in your life, my friend. It'll change your life.
- 58:36Speaker 2: All right, Giovanni and Yaku, this is how it works.
- 58:38Speaker 2: You have 30 seconds. Well, not 30 seconds. You'll have
- 58:41Speaker 2: a tiebreaker, music, and then you need to say your
- 58:44Speaker 2: name first and then the answer. That's all. Once I
- 58:47Speaker 2: go to you, you need to give me the answer immediately.
- 58:50Speaker 2: But remember, what's key here is that you have to
- 58:52Speaker 2: say your name before you answer the question. I know
- 58:55Speaker 2: it gets exciting sometimes, And you want to shout out
- 58:57Speaker 2: the answer immediately, but that will mean an immediate disqualification.
- 59:00Speaker 2: And I don't want that to happen to you. Is
- 59:02Speaker 2: that understood, Giovanni?
- 59:04Speaker 3: Yes, I am.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Understood, Yaku?
- 59:07Speaker 4: Understood.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Alright so pull remains your flash word this is what
- 59:11Speaker 2: I'm looking for good luck your final question is I
- 59:24Speaker 2: need a Prince song Giovanni Giovanni what's your answer?
- 59:31Speaker 7: Purple Rain.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Really? Is that your answer or somebody else's in the background?
- 59:37Speaker 6: My answer.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Yaku. He got you, my friend. It was a good run.
- 59:49Speaker 2: It was a very good run. I'm very proud of you.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Thank you, Yaku. I appreciate you.
- 59:53Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 59:53Speaker 2: You have been such a... I loved your attitude and
- 59:56Speaker 2: your warmth and your kindness. And we'll make sure to
- 59:59Speaker 2: use an electrician like you in Strand and surrounds. That's
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: what we're looking for, Yaku.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: We're in the same train.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Good night.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: What? Oh, really? We're in the same train? As a coincidence. Oh,
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: electrical and plumbing. Okay, there we go. Look at you.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: Look at you too. Well, Yaku, thank you so much. Giovanni...
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: You are the new Flashwood champion. Congratulations. And tomorrow, I
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: look forward to only you playing. I was playing.
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: I was listening to the radio.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: In the background. Oh, so the person shouting Prince in
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: the background was nobody, right? Yeah, and they're laughing now. Tomorrow, Giovanni,
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: your colleagues, you know what? They know my number. They
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: can send their own virtual hand. Okay, if they want
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: to play. Giovanni, tomorrow, you and I, we have another
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: date to defend your title. Remember, if you win on Friday, Giovanni.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: You're going to go over to next week where there
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: are some great prizes from a new sponsor on The
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Flash Drive. Giovanni and colleagues, I'll say goodbye to your
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: colleagues for good. To you, I say goodbye just for now. Giovanni,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: catch you alone tomorrow on The Flash Word and The
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Flash Drive on KFM 94.5. Jeremy Loops, better together, of course.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Better with the flash drive and you. And this is KF94. 5.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: One last thing to do is something called the one-up.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: It's a lovely opportunity for us to get together and
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: share whatever we can within Beatrice's sort of category. Like yesterday,
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: we were going all demotivational. The one-up where Cassidy and
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: I have the unique opportunity to spit whatever we can
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: at each other.
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: How about some demotivational quotes?
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Demotivational quotes. Yeah. If you are worried about doors closing
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: in your life, remember one of those doors was big
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: enough for Jack, but he still froze.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: If you never try, you can never fail. But you
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: can also still be blamed, which is worse.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: True that. Failure is like drinking. Do it often and
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: you will forget.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: The early bird catches the worm, but the late worm
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: doesn't get eaten.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Actions speak louder than words, but actions have never met Cassidy.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: She's louder than everything.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Why work a nine to five when you can work
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: a 24 seven?
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: If everything you ever wanted is on the other side
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: of fear, I'm staying on this side.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Believe you can, and you're already halfway to disappointment. Is
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: that real?
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's very real. Come back. Come back.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Come back.
- 1:02:35Speaker 7: Come back.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: I get amnesia at this time of the show. It's
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: the best. I forget about it, then Jodie puts together
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: a little recap, and I'm like, oh, we did that yesterday.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: What do you want to do today?
- 1:02:50Speaker 7: It's sort of inspired by Yuko, but, you know, it's summer.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Is it? It's still spring. Wait for us. Wait for it. Wait, wait, wait. Okay.
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: It's one of those seasons where the sun is up.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: It's getting warm.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: That's one.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: Where the sun's up later like now.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: That is true.
- 1:03:10Speaker 7: How amazing is it?
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Anyway, sorry, I digress. Yes.
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: But I know you have a, I want to say
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: a conspiracy theory or something, but have you noticed there's
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: a a lot more traffic officers out on the road
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: it's not a.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Conspiracy okay I have told you this before but I
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: just think that I see more cameras I see cameras
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: in places that don't give you a chance to slow
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: down for instance, on the N1 at the Kubrick interchange, okay,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: that thing goes from 120 to 80. And I get
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: caught there all the time. And it always happens this
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: time of the year. So I'm just saying that with
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: all these fines, people are clearly paying because there's not
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: enough time for you to slow down at that bend.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: It's not a conspiracy, but there are bonuses to be paid.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: And I agree with you because all of a sudden,
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: that happened to me this morning as well.
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: Here's a mobile camera. 500 meters from a static camera.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Yes. So I'm saying there's so many more cameras, which
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: means there's going to be more fines. And I know
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: that the clap back here would be like, we're trying
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: to keep the road safe ahead of the festive season.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: I love that. Thank you for doing that. I appreciate it.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: But I just think that some of the cameras are
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: in areas where you know that someone's not going to
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: slow down in time. I got a fine, all right?
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: I think I was going, I think it was 90
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: in an 80 zone. Like I was just about slowed down.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: I was 10 Ks away. Bah, fine. Bah, someone's bonuses paid.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Also, if you're like, I haven't seen any cops, don't worry,
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: go to the beach. Go to the beach. That is
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: where they get their bonuses. On people who've like slightly
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: parked over like a yellow line or a red line.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: I asked a police officer who I saw the other day.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: I was like, oh, are you here because people are parking?
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: And he goes, no, I got called because I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: I wasn't insinuating the people getting bonuses. I'm just saying
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: that it just seems convenient around bonus season. But I'm
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: not saying that directly.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: No.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I'm not really saying it either. Yes, it's.
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: Just words.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: It's a conspiracy. Yes, that's what it is. It's not
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: even a conspiracy. I'm just saying it's interesting that the
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: cameras are out and it's around bonus season. That's what
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: I'm saying. I'm not saying it's that. It's just an observation,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: but not an accusation.
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: Ten minutes to get to that word.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: An observation. Interesting.
- 1:05:25Speaker 7: Anyway, how about things you can say to a traffic officer,
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: but not to your partner?
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: I need to find a song for this. No, I'll
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: find a song. Let's see if I can find a
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: song here. Lil Wayne and Bobby Valentino. Do you remember
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: this song?
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: I love Bobby Valentino.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: That long, yes Yes, there we go Alright, so do
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: you want to go first?
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Sure So how much is this going to cost me?
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Oh Interesting What? No, no, no, no, no I'm just
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: saying You clearly can't say that to your partner So
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: you're going outside of the relationship And asking that question, right?
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Right I think I'll go direct, right? That's the first
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: wrong thing I've done and I'm getting spoken to. Why
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: are you focusing on my flaws?
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: Was that how you talked to the guy?
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: That's correct. That was him. Yes, okay. Are you going
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: to make me blow on that thing?
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: No, is it not? That's a thing.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Wait, there's a button here. If you want to inspect
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: the rear.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: I wasn't going that fast.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: This is the first time I've been pulled off.
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: Is it really that bastard in the back?
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I saw you behind me.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: No, stop.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: I'm sorry I didn't stop immediately. Get me out of.
- 1:07:29Speaker 7: Here.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Get me out of here.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: I have one last one, though.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: Okay, let it rip.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: You came out of nowhere. Right, anyway.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: Mr.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Wasteland.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: We're going to go now. By the way, we actually
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: have a little session between the team, in case you
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: want to know.
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: We are.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Going to go and do some ahead of tomorrow's battle
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: with Cape Talk. We're going to get Beatrice and Jodie
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: and Cassidy and myself onto a paddle court.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Can I tell you what we're doing? We're playing an
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: away game.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: We are.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: I love how I'm being tortured because you two decided.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: To take on Cape Talk.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: There's no torture.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: You know, I.
- 1:08:12Speaker 7: Had to go watch an educational video. What is paddle?
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: It was a 59 second clock.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Video that is.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: For people who did social tennis social tennis.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: It's gonna be so much fun yeah it's cool so

- 1:08:50Speaker 2: That's all I have.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: That's enough.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: I've played three games. Literally.
- 1:08:54Speaker 7: Okay, there's two things that count in your favor. Both
- 1:08:57Speaker 7: of you are short.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: What is that supposed to mean? Which means you're far.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: That does not mean. Trust me, short doesn't mean fast.
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: Who are you talking about?
- 1:09:05Speaker 7: You've got a fine today.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Just saying.
