- 0:57Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing since
- 1:02Speaker 1: cold Pizza. I recently had a mid morning slice of
- 1:06Speaker 1: cold pizza for the first time in ages. The crust
- 1:09Speaker 1: was stiff as a board, the cheese was congealed, and
- 1:13Speaker 1: yet it was inexplicably delicious. It's good to know that
- 1:18Speaker 1: my college age hungover taste buds many years ago were
- 1:23Speaker 1: not wrong. Now let's get to Sunday's lion taming. Heading
- 1:28Speaker 1: into the game, the Bengals were one of only five
- 1:31Speaker 1: teams that hadn't scored on their opening drive all year.
- 1:34Speaker 1: After an eight play sixty one yard drive, you can
- 1:38Speaker 1: scratch Cincinnati off that list. Burrow with a play clock
- 1:42Speaker 1: in one, extends the hands, catches the snap, no flag
- 1:45Speaker 1: floats Akata sideline ever make baby match with his arms
- 1:49Speaker 1: fully extended. Touchdown Bengals one. A catch by rookie Chris
- 1:55Speaker 1: Evans a twenty four yard touchdown pass. There are very
- 2:00Speaker 1: few running backs in the National Football League with hands
- 2:04Speaker 1: like that. With samaj ap Ride on the COVID list,
- 2:07Speaker 1: Chris Evans got the most snaps of his NFL career
- 2:10Speaker 1: and finished with fifty seven combined rushing and receiving yards.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Here's Joe Burrow on the rookie running back. He's just
- 2:18Speaker 1: getting better and better every single week. You know, you
- 2:21Speaker 1: see what he can do. In the past game, he
- 2:22Speaker 1: got one on one and you know, really really ran
- 2:25Speaker 1: a great route and scored a touchdown for us. But
- 2:28Speaker 1: after the fast start, the Bengals offense went bone dry,
- 2:32Speaker 1: empty backfield, five wides. Third down in twenty Burrow drops
- 2:36Speaker 1: back to throw the Lions rush three cover with eight
- 2:39Speaker 1: damn the passes intercepted. The Lions have it at the thirty,
- 2:43Speaker 1: running down to the twenty five and the tackle has
- 2:46Speaker 1: made At the twenty three. It was deflected and Amani
- 2:49Speaker 1: o'er Warrior comes up with his third interception of the
- 2:52Speaker 1: year and returns at sixteen yards. There's a penalty flag
- 2:56Speaker 1: in the secondary. The penalty was after the interception, so
- 3:00Speaker 1: the Lions had the ball in Bengals territory. Two plays later,
- 3:04Speaker 1: Cincinnati took it back. Golf drops back to three fastball
- 3:08Speaker 1: over the metal caught at the twenty five yard line,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but the Bengals take the ball away. Logan Wilson has
- 3:14Speaker 1: it top out that are they blowing it dead early
- 3:18Speaker 1: on the field has been changed to an interception. It's
- 3:22Speaker 1: first intense for Cincinnati at the twenty three yard line.
- 3:26Speaker 1: That gives linebacker Logan Wilson four interceptions this year. That
- 3:30Speaker 1: second in the NFL behind the Cowboys Trey Von Diggs,
- 3:33Speaker 1: who picked off his sixth pass on Sunday. Here's Chitabey
- 3:37Speaker 1: a wooge on Logan Wilson. We marveled at him. You know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I don't know what he's doing, just be in my
- 3:43Speaker 1: position and that ball sticking to his gloves and all
- 3:46Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. And credits to Vam on that
- 3:48Speaker 1: play as Will forgetting the ball out. But yeah, it's
- 3:51Speaker 1: great to have Logan making those type of plays. We
- 3:54Speaker 1: need them, and it's been changing the game every time
- 3:56Speaker 1: the score remains seven nothing while Cincinnati's offense spot after
- 4:00Speaker 1: Burrow's interception, the Bengals had three straight three and outs
- 4:04Speaker 1: and with less than thirty seconds to go in the half,
- 4:07Speaker 1: they face third and long, third down and ten. The
- 4:10Speaker 1: Bengals at their own forty one deep safety now for Detroit,
- 4:15Speaker 1: nine defenders up on the line. Burrow back to pass,
- 4:18Speaker 1: throws a deep down field four Chase Ye Jamarrow makes
- 4:21Speaker 1: the catch inside the thirty and goes out of bounds
- 4:25Speaker 1: at the twenty six yard line of Detroit. He beat
- 4:29Speaker 1: Jerry Jacobs for a thirty four yard game, and that
- 4:33Speaker 1: means Jamar Chase has had a catch of at least
- 4:36Speaker 1: thirty four yards in every game he's played in in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the National Football League. And Dan the throws unbelievable. Running
- 4:42Speaker 1: the sideline has covered two. You got a safety coming
- 4:45Speaker 1: over the top, a corner underneath safety over the top.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You have to keep it as close as you can
- 4:49Speaker 1: to the sidelines so the safety can't get there. Joe
- 4:52Speaker 1: Burrow dropped it perfectly. That long pass allowed Evan McPherson
- 4:56Speaker 1: to kick a thirty eight yard field goal on the
- 4:58Speaker 1: final play of the half to give Cincinnati Attend nothing lead.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Here are Chase and Burrow on Jamar's latest big play
- 5:06Speaker 1: just before halftime, with this footnote, heasy stands for hesitation.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I just gave the defender m hesy stepped at the
- 5:17Speaker 1: top of my route. Um, they'll cause him to slow down,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and it didn't. After that, I just sped up and
- 5:23Speaker 1: ended up being wide open. The safety was looking back
- 5:25Speaker 1: in the backfield at Joe. He went't too worried about
- 5:27Speaker 1: what I was doing. And you gotta downfill. Jamar just
- 5:31Speaker 1: keeps being that spark for us, you know, they he
- 5:34Speaker 1: keeps finding his opportunities when he gets one on one
- 5:36Speaker 1: to win win down the field. And you know, when
- 5:40Speaker 1: we have a guy like that, it's and when we
- 5:42Speaker 1: have the connection that we have, you know, you can't
- 5:45Speaker 1: can't fall asleep on defense when you have that guy.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Since the Bengals won their eleventh consecutive coin toss to
- 5:51Speaker 1: begin the day, the odds of that are one. In
- 5:53Speaker 1: two thousand and forty eight. They got the ball to
- 5:56Speaker 1: begin the third quarter and scored again thanks to a
- 5:59Speaker 1: brit call on fourth and less than a yard. Detroit
- 6:03Speaker 1: has several defensive live and right over the ball. The
- 6:06Speaker 1: receiver goes in jet motion BA right over. He throws
- 6:09Speaker 1: it's caught Mixon streaking down the sideline to the twenty.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Chase span runs it into the end zone. What a call,
- 6:17Speaker 1: What a block? Touchdown Cincinnati. That forty yard touchdown made
- 6:22Speaker 1: it seventeen nothing. And after the game, everybody was talking
- 6:26Speaker 1: about the downfield block by Jamar Chase, including the guy
- 6:30Speaker 1: that scored the touchdown, Joe Mixon. That's what a Bengal is.
- 6:33Speaker 1: A physical, hungry, accountable teammate that's gonna get to do
- 6:36Speaker 1: whatever it gets a job done. And I thought, you know,
- 6:39Speaker 1: he came down, man made a hell of a block.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I mean it was crazy. Um, I got the ball,
- 6:44Speaker 1: made a made a run. I seen Jamar try to
- 6:46Speaker 1: set up his blood and he came down running and
- 6:49Speaker 1: he just threw him down. I was like, oh yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 1: but I mean that's what that's what makes him a
- 6:53Speaker 1: great player. I mean, you know, here Ricky and things
- 6:56Speaker 1: like that, he don't play like it. I mean, that's
- 6:57Speaker 1: like a Jerry Rice play. It was like an all
- 7:00Speaker 1: around performance for him on the perimeter, catching the ball
- 7:03Speaker 1: and blocking up. Like I said, I thought he did
- 7:05Speaker 1: a great case finished with four catches for ninety seven yards,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and Mixon finished with eighteen carries for ninety four. Joe
- 7:12Speaker 1: added five catches for fifty nine more yards to wind
- 7:15Speaker 1: up with one hundred and fifty three yards of total offense.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So what did Joe think of his performance? I think
- 7:22Speaker 1: it was average. It could have been it could have
- 7:24Speaker 1: been a lot better. But to be honest, man, we
- 7:27Speaker 1: got the dub. I thought the offensive line did a
- 7:30Speaker 1: hell of a job. Then boys on a perimeter do
- 7:33Speaker 1: a hell of a job out there, and I was
- 7:34Speaker 1: just capitalizing on my opportunities, but left a lot of
- 7:37Speaker 1: yards out there, and uh, you know, going forward has
- 7:40Speaker 1: got to figure out way to make those plays. But
- 7:43Speaker 1: I like the way we had it right now. Nevin
- 7:45Speaker 1: McPherson field goal made it twenty nothing going to the
- 7:48Speaker 1: fourth quarter and the Bengals quickly put the game away.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Third down and goal from the three. Burrow under center
- 7:55Speaker 1: fakes to mix and looking back to the left, throws
- 7:57Speaker 1: into the end zones, caught for the touchdown out C
- 8:01Speaker 1: j U Summer started on the right side of the line,
- 8:05Speaker 1: snuck out to the left hand, hauled in Joe burrows
- 8:08Speaker 1: third touchdown pass of the game. I'll tell you to
- 8:11Speaker 1: keep block Joe Mixon these running backs. It was a
- 8:13Speaker 1: play action passed the fake to Joe Mixon. He chopped
- 8:17Speaker 1: down the edge rusher chopped into the ground, gave Joe
- 8:20Speaker 1: Burrow time an opportunity to find Cgozamba on that crossing route.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Outstanding blocking going on by all of these running backs
- 8:29Speaker 1: protecting their quarterback big time. Burrow passed for two hundred
- 8:32Speaker 1: and seventy one yards and had a passer rating of
- 8:34Speaker 1: one fifteen point seven. He's thrown at least two touchdown
- 8:38Speaker 1: passes in every game this year. In the sky's the
- 8:41Speaker 1: linen for you know, linen, some of those things that
- 8:44Speaker 1: happened in the first half. You know, plaly score fifty
- 8:47Speaker 1: points today, but you know it's the SNFL. I'm never
- 8:51Speaker 1: gonna be upset about a thirty four point game and
- 8:55Speaker 1: you're winning by as much as we did. But you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: we do have to get some things corrected, and when
- 8:59Speaker 1: we do that scared. The Lions finally got on the
- 9:02Speaker 1: scoreboard midway through the fourth quarter on a field goal
- 9:05Speaker 1: by Austin Seibert, but even with Brandon Allen at a quarterback,
- 9:09Speaker 1: the Bengals offense kept rolling. Allen takes the snap run
- 9:13Speaker 1: to the right, No, he faked, he's looking at throw.
- 9:14Speaker 1: His pass caught and Audun tap takes it into the
- 9:18Speaker 1: end zone. Touchdown. Bengals Allen with his first touchdown pass
- 9:23Speaker 1: of the year, and Audun Tate calls it in that
- 9:27Speaker 1: put the Bengals over thirty points for the first time
- 9:29Speaker 1: this season. The Lions scored a touchdown and added a
- 9:33Speaker 1: two point conversion with about two minutes to go to
- 9:36Speaker 1: put a little lipstick on Miss Piggy, making the final
- 9:39Speaker 1: score thirty four eleven. It was the bengals seventh straight
- 9:43Speaker 1: win over Detroit dating back to nineteen ninety eight, and
- 9:46Speaker 1: it dropped this year's Lions two oz and six since
- 9:50Speaker 1: Jacksonville one on Sunday. The Lions are the only team
- 9:53Speaker 1: in the NFL without a win. By the way, Jacksonville's
- 9:58Speaker 1: win over Miami was in London, so I think it's
- 10:01Speaker 1: safe to say that urban Meyer went home on the
- 10:04Speaker 1: team plane. The Bengals improved to four and two, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: after the game, Laps spent four minutes with Zach Taylor
- 10:12Speaker 1: a winning coach. Yeah, it's good, you know, I like
- 10:15Speaker 1: the way our team finished it out. I know they
- 10:16Speaker 1: scored there at the end, those eleven points, but really
- 10:20Speaker 1: our defense came out ready to play to start the
- 10:22Speaker 1: whole game, and our offense finally caught a rhythm there
- 10:25Speaker 1: going into halftime and was able to score in every
- 10:27Speaker 1: possession after that. You know what I like as a
- 10:30Speaker 1: form alignment, When I see Jamar Chase in front of
- 10:34Speaker 1: Joe Mixon making a big block. When I see Joe
- 10:37Speaker 1: Mixon after a run fake cutting down the edge rush
- 10:40Speaker 1: or making a big block. When I see Evans picking
- 10:43Speaker 1: up strong blitz pick up giving Joe Burrow an opportunity
- 10:46Speaker 1: to make a big throw down the football field, I'm saying, man,
- 10:50Speaker 1: everybody's doing the little things you got to do right.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Our players are selfless, you know, they care about others
- 10:54Speaker 1: more they care about themselves and that's the sign of
- 10:57Speaker 1: a team that's head in the right direction. Really proud
- 10:59Speaker 1: of our guys and all three phases today and it
- 11:02Speaker 1: was a complete team effort and it was good to see.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So you score over thirty points. Joe Mixon eighteen this
- 11:08Speaker 1: is unofficial eighteen carries ninety four yards, Joe Burrow almost
- 11:12Speaker 1: three hundred yards, passing two seventy one three touchdowns, interception,
- 11:15Speaker 1: Chase four catches for ninety seven yards. I'll tell you man,
- 11:19Speaker 1: Burrow and Chase, it's magic. I mean the throw he
- 11:21Speaker 1: made before the safety could get there, took it to
- 11:24Speaker 1: the sideline as far as you could because you knew
- 11:25Speaker 1: the safety was coming over the top, put it in
- 11:27Speaker 1: a porthole out there. You saw a lot better than
- 11:29Speaker 1: I did. You know it was on the other sideline.
- 11:31Speaker 1: So I'm still not quite sure what unfolded there. But
- 11:34Speaker 1: those two have great chemistry. They know where they're going
- 11:36Speaker 1: to be, and Jamar's continue to make plays when numbers called.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So is Jamar? What's Jamar like? You know, during the
- 11:42Speaker 1: course of the game on a sideline, does he come
- 11:44Speaker 1: off the field and say, I got this dude? Man?
- 11:46Speaker 1: I mean, I can do anything I want to what's
- 11:48Speaker 1: the feedback like with him Oliver. Receivers are pretty calm,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, and they give the information to Troy or myself,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and so we always feel like we know what the
- 11:55Speaker 1: receivers are seeing and doing and saying with Burrow and
- 11:57Speaker 1: it's just really good communication all the way around. In
- 12:00Speaker 1: the second half, I think for the second time, you
- 12:02Speaker 1: scored on just about every drive, you know, And when
- 12:05Speaker 1: you're doing that, I'll tell you what that's You guys
- 12:08Speaker 1: are a handful and it's hard to handle at that point. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: we just, you know, kind of shot ourselves in the
- 12:14Speaker 1: foot there in the first half with some silly penalties
- 12:16Speaker 1: and mistakes like that, and so we need to hit
- 12:18Speaker 1: a rhythm sooner faster. But again, proud of the way
- 12:21Speaker 1: that our guys came out the second half and executed.
- 12:23Speaker 1: What about your defensive football team pitching a shot? I
- 12:26Speaker 1: mean at one point, I know, I think it was
- 12:28Speaker 1: like two hundred and ten yards to like fifty. I mean,
- 12:30Speaker 1: it was just they were they were suffocating the Detroit Lions.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They couldn't get anything done, They had no points in
- 12:35Speaker 1: the boarding, like you said, scored eleven late. But how
- 12:38Speaker 1: about that defensive performance. How inspirational is that they've always
- 12:41Speaker 1: had confidence in themselves, but I can see it growing
- 12:43Speaker 1: from week to week. You know, now they're expectations coming.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We're not gonna allow any points, We're not gonna give
- 12:48Speaker 1: up any big players. We're going to create more turn
- 12:50Speaker 1: rivers than we have been and so that that's really
- 12:51Speaker 1: good to see. We've got great leadership on that side
- 12:53Speaker 1: of the ball and really good chemistry. So at what
- 12:56Speaker 1: point did you feel like this is going to be
- 12:59Speaker 1: a special day? I mean, was there any point during
- 13:01Speaker 1: the course of the game in the sideline when you
- 13:03Speaker 1: thought might that this might be something extraordinary? Well, we
- 13:05Speaker 1: felt like when it was seventeen nothing, we had them
- 13:07Speaker 1: on the mat and we need to finish them off,
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know, And that's that's kind of the killer instinct
- 13:11Speaker 1: we're trying to develop at this team. And our defense
- 13:14Speaker 1: went out there, got to stop. Our offense went out
- 13:15Speaker 1: there and kicked to field goal. We would have liked
- 13:17Speaker 1: to touch down there. I think we had a drop
- 13:19Speaker 1: on that series. But that's the next step for us,
- 13:21Speaker 1: is getting pains down and then just just finishing them off.
- 13:24Speaker 1: The finishing blow there in the second half. How rewarding
- 13:26Speaker 1: is it a play caller. When Joe Mixon is so
- 13:28Speaker 1: wide open for his touchdown, Evans makes an unbelievable catch,
- 13:32Speaker 1: you know, the back half of the football for his touchdown.
- 13:34Speaker 1: How rewarding is it when you dial it up and
- 13:36Speaker 1: the players executed it the way they did, it feels good,
- 13:39Speaker 1: you know. That's that's where all the work comes in.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And so again, our players understand what we're asking them
- 13:44Speaker 1: to do. They're doing it with great detail and precision,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and big players are going to come from that. Well.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Four and two now thirty four eleven victory done with
- 13:54Speaker 1: the NFC North, even Stephen two wins, two losses could
- 13:59Speaker 1: have been in. We're not going to go backwards though,
- 14:01Speaker 1: as you look forward to the Baltimore Ravens. What's the
- 14:04Speaker 1: first thing that comes to mind when you think about
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens Right now? We got to be strong
- 14:09Speaker 1: in our division and this is our second opportunity. We
- 14:11Speaker 1: want to know this is a big road test again
- 14:14Speaker 1: for us, and our guys will be ready, but this
- 14:17Speaker 1: is a big game for us. There's no question. First
- 14:20Speaker 1: place Ravens are five and one after humbling the Chargers
- 14:23Speaker 1: thirty four to six on Sunday, The second place Bengals
- 14:27Speaker 1: are one game behind Baltimore and one game ahead of
- 14:30Speaker 1: Cleveland after the Browns got crushed at home by the
- 14:34Speaker 1: undefeated Cardinals thirty seven fourteen. Baker Mayfield dislocated his left
- 14:40Speaker 1: shoulder in that game, but expects to be able to
- 14:43Speaker 1: play with the injury. Now time for some postgame analysis
- 14:47Speaker 1: with Dave Lapham. I'll be honest, I thought the Bengals
- 14:51Speaker 1: were going to win, but I didn't expect it to
- 14:53Speaker 1: be as dominant as it turned out. How about you?
- 14:55Speaker 1: I agree with you, Dan. I mean, within thirty yards
- 14:59Speaker 1: of a three hundred yard passer, you know, less than
- 15:02Speaker 1: ten yards, within what six yards or whatever it was
- 15:05Speaker 1: of one hundred yard rusher, in the same one hundred
- 15:07Speaker 1: yard receiver, you have three hundred, one hundred, one hundred.
- 15:10Speaker 1: That's a big it's a big offensive performance. And defensively
- 15:15Speaker 1: they suffocated them. You know, they really when the game
- 15:18Speaker 1: was on the line, when the game meant something, they
- 15:21Speaker 1: just they didn't give an inch. It was. It was
- 15:23Speaker 1: an impressive performance all the way around. There was complimentary
- 15:25Speaker 1: football played, you know, between phases of the thing and
- 15:29Speaker 1: within the phase, you know, running game, supporting passing game,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and the thing I liked in reflection talking to some
- 15:36Speaker 1: of the guys in the locker room, Jamar Chase making
- 15:39Speaker 1: the block for Joe Mixon's touchdown, Joe Mixon after the
- 15:42Speaker 1: play action fake making the block, allowing a touchdown pass
- 15:45Speaker 1: to occur. Evans Blitz pick up allowing Joe Joe Burrow
- 15:49Speaker 1: to throw a touchdown pass. So the detail of things
- 15:52Speaker 1: that needed to be done were done at a very
- 15:55Speaker 1: high level, and there was complimentary football played there too.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That's good stuff. I thought the game really swung on
- 16:02Speaker 1: one play less than a minute ago. Second quarter, Bengals
- 16:06Speaker 1: up seven nothing. They had had three straight three and outs,
- 16:09Speaker 1: three straight punts. It's third and ten. Looks like they're
- 16:11Speaker 1: gonna punt again. Joe Burrow drops a perfect pass to
- 16:14Speaker 1: Jamar Chase for a thirty four yard game, moving it
- 16:17Speaker 1: from the Bengals forty to the Lions twenty six. That
- 16:21Speaker 1: leads to a field goal that makes it ten nothing.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That gives the Bengals momentum, and they come out in
- 16:25Speaker 1: the second half and score three touchdowns in a field
- 16:28Speaker 1: goal in their first four drives. It's crazy. I mean,
- 16:31Speaker 1: they score another three points in the final two minutes,
- 16:35Speaker 1: of the first half. They've scored thirty one points now
- 16:37Speaker 1: in the final two minutes of the first six football games. Nuts,
- 16:41Speaker 1: then they come right out and score, you know, to
- 16:44Speaker 1: start the third quarter, which they've done. That's that's such
- 16:47Speaker 1: a huge energy emotion, you know, everything you can think of,
- 16:51Speaker 1: such a huge boost in the throw extraordinary. I mean,
- 16:55Speaker 1: it's a porthole. It's not a window, it's a porthole
- 16:58Speaker 1: down there. It's like you got to go over the
- 17:00Speaker 1: corner and before the safety can get there, get it
- 17:03Speaker 1: close as close to the sideline as you can. Chase
- 17:06Speaker 1: ran a route that was along those lines and exactly
- 17:11Speaker 1: where we were supposed to run it, and Joe put
- 17:13Speaker 1: the ball such an unbelievable place, I mean it was.
- 17:17Speaker 1: That's one of those where you say, man, these guys
- 17:19Speaker 1: are good, These NFL players, these guys are good, no question.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Unbelievable catch by Chris Evans for the bengals first touchdown.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm saying you can't count on both hands the number
- 17:32Speaker 1: of running backs that can make a catch like that,
- 17:34Speaker 1: Maybe one, not both. Do you think the Bengals need
- 17:38Speaker 1: to find ways to get him more involved on offense? Yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I mean, you look at him and you see, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: a potential Giovanni Bernard, you know where. And the thing
- 17:49Speaker 1: that I was impressed with his blitz pickup was good,
- 17:53Speaker 1: not just the one on the Joe Borrow touchdown. There
- 17:55Speaker 1: were other instances of blitz pickup where he was, you know, unashamedly,
- 18:00Speaker 1: but he his nose right in the middle of somebody
- 18:02Speaker 1: and that was good to see. So I think, um,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, the only thing you can do as a
- 18:07Speaker 1: player is have some patience, wait for your opportunity. Know
- 18:11Speaker 1: you're prepared as well as you possibly can for your opportunity,
- 18:14Speaker 1: and capitalize on your opportunity. So therefore you can get
- 18:18Speaker 1: more opportunity. And that's kind of the process he's going
- 18:20Speaker 1: through as a young rookie, and he's earning it. He's
- 18:23Speaker 1: earning his chance, he's earning his snaps. I don't have
- 18:26Speaker 1: team stats in front of me. I'm pretty sure it's
- 18:28Speaker 1: less than fifty rushing yards in the game for the
- 18:30Speaker 1: Detroit Lions. Awesome job and run defense. Of course, late
- 18:34Speaker 1: in the game when I got lopsided, they stopped running.
- 18:36Speaker 1: But in any case, it's been excellent by and large
- 18:39Speaker 1: for the most part this year, and it was the
- 18:41Speaker 1: best it's been all year. Today. Yeah, nothing leaked out,
- 18:44Speaker 1: you know, that was that was the thing everybody was.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You know, we talked about in the in the pregame
- 18:49Speaker 1: that these guys like to cut, you know, cut block,
- 18:52Speaker 1: and uh, that's that's their head coach Dan Campbell is
- 18:55Speaker 1: that type of player, you know, he's a it's not dirty,
- 18:58Speaker 1: it's just it's physical, it's aggressive, and guys stayed on
- 19:01Speaker 1: their feet, stayed in their gaps, didn't give them much
- 19:05Speaker 1: opportunity to run the football. And yeah, defensively I thought,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know they were, they were extraordinary in the NFL.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I don't care how bad the offense is struggling. You know,
- 19:16Speaker 1: it's like they pitched the shutout for almost three quarters
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, of the football game. Or maybe it wasn't
- 19:21Speaker 1: to the fourth quarter. I think it was three plus quarters.
- 19:23Speaker 1: They pitched a shut out. When you do something like that,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you've done a lot of things right. They beat a
- 19:28Speaker 1: winless team. People are going to poop poo the victory,
- 19:31Speaker 1: but the dominance is what stands out to me. Like
- 19:34Speaker 1: we said at the very beginning, we both thought they
- 19:36Speaker 1: would win. But when you dominate like that, it makes
- 19:40Speaker 1: you think, Okay, this team might be able to sustain
- 19:44Speaker 1: this and stay in the playoff hunt. The good thing
- 19:47Speaker 1: is it was the first time for them this year
- 19:50Speaker 1: where they found themselves up seventeen and at that point,
- 19:54Speaker 1: what do you do. Do you let a team back
- 19:55Speaker 1: in the game or do you finish it? And they
- 19:57Speaker 1: finished it. That's a good sign, he said. Maybe not
- 20:00Speaker 1: the best team by far that they're going to play,
- 20:03Speaker 1: but when you when you're up, you have a team down,
- 20:06Speaker 1: like Forrest, Greg used to say, finish him, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 1: don't reposition yourself and let them get a breath and
- 20:12Speaker 1: get back in the football game. So I thought that
- 20:15Speaker 1: was a positive sign as well. Bring out the Ravens man.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I hope that that run defense is I hope we
- 20:24Speaker 1: play the best gap control, responsibility running game defense we've
- 20:30Speaker 1: ever played. Because when I mean, they're they're so unusual
- 20:33Speaker 1: with they're eleven on eleven, having a quarterback like that
- 20:35Speaker 1: that can run it. I mean, I look at him,
- 20:37Speaker 1: Dan as you know, at least a top twenty running
- 20:41Speaker 1: back in the league, you know, I mean, dude, he's
- 20:44Speaker 1: he's always statistically he's in the top twenty rushing even
- 20:46Speaker 1: though he's a quarterback. He's legit. From a talent standpoint,
- 20:51Speaker 1: he's legit top twenty, maybe even a little higher in
- 20:54Speaker 1: terms of a running back can make guys miss and
- 20:56Speaker 1: everybody's like, oh, he's going to get hurt. That dude,
- 20:58Speaker 1: he's not going to get hurt. Doesn't give anybody a
- 21:00Speaker 1: flush shot on him. He is unbelievable. Yeah, that that's
- 21:04Speaker 1: a good football team. If you combined his passing yards
- 21:07Speaker 1: in the rushing yards going into the weekend, he had
- 21:10Speaker 1: more yards by himself than eighteen NFL teams. It's extraordinary.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's ridiculous. You have to look at
- 21:18Speaker 1: it from the Bengals perspective. They're one and on the division.
- 21:20Speaker 1: You know, they beat Pittsburgh on the road. If you
- 21:23Speaker 1: can go into Baltimore and beat them on the road,
- 21:25Speaker 1: be two and on the division. They're two road games
- 21:27Speaker 1: to boot Man and sitting five and two overall. Then
- 21:31Speaker 1: you start to think we might have something here. It's
- 21:34Speaker 1: nice to be in the hunt, isn't it? It is
- 21:36Speaker 1: it is. Let's just let's keep enough AMMO to get
- 21:39Speaker 1: through the hunt. You know, let's keep having enough we
- 21:41Speaker 1: can reload and just keep shooting. Man mar Jackson has
- 21:46Speaker 1: started five games against the Bengals, and the Ravens have
- 21:49Speaker 1: won all five. The first two were close. The combined
- 21:53Speaker 1: score in the last three meetings is eighty four to nineteen.
- 21:58Speaker 1: The Bengals are an early six and a half point underdog.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Next week, the Bengals Booth Podcast is presented by Ultimate Bengals,
- 22:05Speaker 1: the free to play fantasy football game. Ultimate Bengals will
- 22:09Speaker 1: be awarding a weekly winner during the course of the

- 22:17Speaker 1: all up for grabs. Find Ultimate Bengals in the app
- 22:20Speaker 1: stores now. Now time for this week's fun Facts segment,
- 22:24Speaker 1: where you get to know the person under the pads.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Time for some fun facts with Bengal safety Von Bell.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before playing high school football just
- 22:34Speaker 1: across the state line in Rossville, Georgia. Describe where you
- 22:38Speaker 1: grew up. Was it a city environment, was it a
- 22:40Speaker 1: country environment? And what was young Von Bell into as
- 22:43Speaker 1: a kid. Oh, you know, it's a very small city
- 22:46Speaker 1: like owing it. But the key you know, I was
- 22:48Speaker 1: just very competitive, just being around my older brother and
- 22:52Speaker 1: just being around sports all my life. And we're just
- 22:54Speaker 1: going out to hemphone just being a kid when it
- 22:56Speaker 1: comes to sports, was football always your number one love?
- 22:59Speaker 1: It was basketball? And I was multi sported, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: play tennis, I was on the swim team, all types
- 23:05Speaker 1: of sports, so I was were around it tennis and swimming.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah, a little soccer there too, So yeah, I'm
- 23:13Speaker 1: pretty skilled. Do you ever pick up a tennis racket anymore? Yeah?
- 23:16Speaker 1: I still watch it, you know, like the openings and
- 23:18Speaker 1: all that, so I keep up with that. So I
- 23:19Speaker 1: think out there and do a little bit. We're doing
- 23:22Speaker 1: fun faction with von Bell. You were famously an early riser,
- 23:26Speaker 1: waking up at four working out at five while most
- 23:29Speaker 1: of us are sound asleep. When and why did you
- 23:33Speaker 1: start doing that? Um? It really just came from my family. Really.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It was always an early rising family, getting our chores
- 23:40Speaker 1: done early, and really just getting our work done earlier
- 23:43Speaker 1: really too. So it's ingrained in me. And I just
- 23:47Speaker 1: took that over the ball. And I'm always thinking, early
- 23:49Speaker 1: worm gets the worm, early bird gets to worm, so
- 23:53Speaker 1: and that's my mentality always, So I'm always on the
- 23:55Speaker 1: first one up getting it. And I just feel like
- 23:59Speaker 1: I'm making dreams others are dreaming so and it's um
- 24:02Speaker 1: as going my mentality, So so I think about I'm
- 24:06Speaker 1: making dreams while others are dreaming. That's tremendous. Do you
- 24:10Speaker 1: ever sleep in and if so, how late are we talking? Joey,
- 24:15Speaker 1: you know, the head Strip coach. He tried to get
- 24:18Speaker 1: me to sleeping on Saturdays and only sleeping in my
- 24:21Speaker 1: setn clock and so that's my sleeping day. So he said,
- 24:25Speaker 1: maybe some rest recovery. I said, I get that. We
- 24:28Speaker 1: still gotta make some more. We gotta make some more
- 24:30Speaker 1: jackiep on pushing, and so that's my sleeping day. We're
- 24:36Speaker 1: chatting a von Bell. You know, you're a highly touted recruit.
- 24:39Speaker 1: When the announcement is carried on live TV, you could
- 24:42Speaker 1: have gone anywhere. Was it stressful or fun? It was both,
- 24:48Speaker 1: But you know, seeing different paths with coaches and players
- 24:52Speaker 1: across you know, in the National Football League now we
- 24:55Speaker 1: all had the same story just seeing each other on
- 24:57Speaker 1: recruiting visits and everything and getting me different coaches, families
- 25:01Speaker 1: and what they're beliefs in that background. So it was
- 25:03Speaker 1: kind of stressful at times. It was a little bit overwhelming,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but I had fun at all end and I want
- 25:11Speaker 1: to change for the world. But it was it was.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It was a good time. You chose to head north
- 25:16Speaker 1: and play for Ohio State, part of a twenty fourteen
- 25:19Speaker 1: national championship team. What did you enjoy most about your
- 25:23Speaker 1: three years of the Buckeyes. M my, my recruiting class.
- 25:29Speaker 1: We did what we said we're gonna do to bring
- 25:31Speaker 1: a championship back to Columbus, Ohio and really did that.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Made a brotherhood and relationships that will last forever. And
- 25:39Speaker 1: now winning that championship and being bound for sure, that
- 25:44Speaker 1: was the biggest thing because it was hot and rolling
- 25:46Speaker 1: for years to come and all the nay says say
- 25:49Speaker 1: we couldn't do it, and we did and that would
- 25:52Speaker 1: resonate with me and stick with me forever. Do you
- 25:55Speaker 1: have a favorite Ohio State football tradition? Oh, it's me.
- 26:00Speaker 1: It's man in the school session when we wake up
- 26:03Speaker 1: early morning, we got chugged water down steps with the
- 26:06Speaker 1: strung staff, the championship walk in the morning with coach
- 26:10Speaker 1: Mayer what we did and uh, you know, and the
- 26:14Speaker 1: fridays we eat at the Jack Nicholas, that Jack Nicholas
- 26:20Speaker 1: golf course and really just um, really fellowship with your
- 26:23Speaker 1: brothers and really just talk and we have a special
- 26:26Speaker 1: speaker every week, and that's what we look forward to
- 26:28Speaker 1: for sure. We're talking to vine Bell. You turn pro
- 26:31Speaker 1: after your junior year. The Saints traded up to select
- 26:34Speaker 1: you in the second round of the draft. How did
- 26:36Speaker 1: you spend the draft and what did that moment mean
- 26:39Speaker 1: to you and your family? Um? I spend with my
- 26:43Speaker 1: family for shure back in Chattanooga, and the moment everything,
- 26:48Speaker 1: you know, surreal moment. It was speechless because everything that
- 26:50Speaker 1: you work for as a little kid dreaming and it's
- 26:53Speaker 1: now surreal. And now you go and change the lives
- 26:56Speaker 1: and do what you do at a high level and
- 26:58Speaker 1: take care of the ones around just loved ones around you.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So there was a real moment for me. Blessed and
- 27:05Speaker 1: m You have cute journey going New Orleans is one
- 27:08Speaker 1: of my favorite places to visit, but I've never lived there.
- 27:12Speaker 1: You spent four years in New Orleans. What was it
- 27:15Speaker 1: like to be a resident during the football season. Oh,
- 27:17Speaker 1: it's good. You know, the city behind you, the food
- 27:22Speaker 1: for sure, and the southern the Southern hospitality, and it's
- 27:29Speaker 1: really just being back home for sure. And you know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: warm weather always, but the food for sure. It's nothing
- 27:35Speaker 1: like I'm with you one hundred percent. But I'm not
- 27:37Speaker 1: a professional athlete that you have to be careful about
- 27:40Speaker 1: some of those caloric Cajun delicacies. For sure, you gotta
- 27:45Speaker 1: be careful, But I know it was all love at
- 27:47Speaker 1: the end of the day. And I was really out
- 27:49Speaker 1: in the community, always giving back on Tuesdays, going to schools.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm just talking just being around the city, and that's
- 27:55Speaker 1: what we really feel the love, and that's where you
- 27:57Speaker 1: feel the city behind the teams back always. So you
- 28:00Speaker 1: signed us a free agent with the Bengals in twenty
- 28:03Speaker 1: twenty and gave Cincinnati fans an iconic moment with your
- 28:07Speaker 1: fumble forcing hit on Juju Smith Schuster after he did
- 28:11Speaker 1: a TikTok dance on the Bengals logo before the game.
- 28:14Speaker 1: That image is on T shirts. It's a popular gift
- 28:17Speaker 1: for Jeff. I'm not sure how people pronounce that. Where's
- 28:20Speaker 1: that play rank for you among your NFL highlights? It's
- 28:23Speaker 1: up def for sure, But it's still more to go.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And I always just say the next play is the
- 28:29Speaker 1: biggest play, and that's all Hume and Grain. I always
- 28:32Speaker 1: look back. I'll look back when I retire, probably, but
- 28:35Speaker 1: I still trying to make more memories then, but it's
- 28:37Speaker 1: up dere for sure, but it's more to come. Have
- 28:40Speaker 1: you seen that T shirt on somebody or on a
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know, a shelf for anything, and they've seen it
- 28:46Speaker 1: to bring a grin to your face? For sure? For sure?
- 28:49Speaker 1: And people sending it to me, Mom, send it to me.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Oh God, tell the stay off that. But for sure
- 28:56Speaker 1: and uh, like I said, as many more memories to go.
- 28:59Speaker 1: All right, let's do some wild card categories of von Bell.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You are an avid reader. What typically do you go
- 29:06Speaker 1: for and do you have a few all time favorite books? Oh? Man,
- 29:11Speaker 1: what I typically go for? I like uh, I like
- 29:16Speaker 1: like inspirational, my mind stimulation books and I always just
- 29:22Speaker 1: sharpened the sword of my mind. And and business books too,
- 29:26Speaker 1: always a businessman off the field and growing the empire.
- 29:29Speaker 1: So uh and re Endless by Tim s Grover. It's
- 29:34Speaker 1: one of the all time favorites. You always talked about
- 29:36Speaker 1: the grace and the sport Kobe Jordan d Wade and
- 29:40Speaker 1: the guys he worked with, so and the energy bus.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I like that book too. So yeah, have your business
- 29:46Speaker 1: ventures started? Have you already begun to work on your
- 29:49Speaker 1: post football career? For sure? It's always when we walk
- 29:55Speaker 1: outside these halls, you got to come to the business
- 29:58Speaker 1: side and the real life sets in and you always
- 30:01Speaker 1: gotta always start that early on. Really invest yourself, invest
- 30:04Speaker 1: your time, and that's true, your finances, and I really
- 30:08Speaker 1: just stimulate your mind outside of the game. Who is
- 30:10Speaker 1: your all time favorite athlete in any sport and why
- 30:14Speaker 1: I love Kobe That's my favorite all time athlete for sure.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Just the mindset. You know, he was still on the
- 30:21Speaker 1: worst schedule like I was down, and that's how he
- 30:24Speaker 1: was at the Lakers, and always just looking forward to him,
- 30:26Speaker 1: always having an ear to what he says, and really
- 30:30Speaker 1: just going out there and just trying to have the
- 30:32Speaker 1: momentality for sure. Do you have any hidden talents alive?
- 30:38Speaker 1: Sounded everything good at bowling? Is there anything you are
- 30:43Speaker 1: absolutely terrible at? I don't know. I'm pretty competitive everything
- 30:49Speaker 1: I do. Like I would challenge somebody in chugging and
- 30:52Speaker 1: water bottle like I don't know. If I wasn't good,
- 30:57Speaker 1: I would find my way to get good at and
- 30:59Speaker 1: challenge you again. Yeah, I like that. That's a great mentality.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Last thing for von Bell. If you could meet anybody
- 31:06Speaker 1: in history, athlete, actor, statesman, whatever it might be. Who
- 31:12Speaker 1: would that person be? I'm not a lot of people
- 31:16Speaker 1: mental boma. How was that? It was cool? You know
- 31:20Speaker 1: at the one and added I got to know, Oh
- 31:25Speaker 1: this is tough. I gotta thank God Jesus. But uh,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I don't know. That's a good one. That's a good one.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Did you get to meet Kobe? No? I didn't. I
- 31:35Speaker 1: will yeah, I would love to meet Kobe. Got to
- 31:38Speaker 1: meet Lebron will Smith too, though we're pretty cool. But
- 31:44Speaker 1: he talented. Man, I don't know. That's a good question
- 31:48Speaker 1: right there. It's pretty deep by now, that's a deep
- 31:50Speaker 1: that I'll say. Covid officiore. This has been great. I
- 31:54Speaker 1: appreciate your time. It's great to have you on this team.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Best of like the rest of the year. Thank you
- 31:58Speaker 1: so much. Finally, here's an invitation to join lapping me
- 32:02Speaker 1: on location for the Bengals game Plan Show this Wednesday
