- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland. Bell Canada says it's monitoring its network
- 0:09Speaker 1: after an outage affected phone services across the province yesterday,
- 0:13Speaker 1: including 911. Operations were restored within a few hours. Bell
- 0:17Speaker 1: Canada says it's keeping an eye on its systems to
- 0:20Speaker 1: ensure that all services have fully returned. The federal government
- 0:25Speaker 1: is set to announce a $ 100 million commitment towards developing
- 0:29Speaker 1: offshore wind energy in Nova Scotia. Energy Minister Tim Hodgson
- 0:33Speaker 1: is set to deliver the news in Halifax today alongside
- 0:36Speaker 1: Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston. A senior government source tells
- 0:39Speaker 1: the Canadian press that Ottawa is putting $ 5 million towards
- 0:43Speaker 1: deploying a fleet of buoys to help measure wind speeds
- 0:46Speaker 1: and ocean conditions. The information, the source says, will help
- 0:49Speaker 1: inform prospective investors ahead of a call for bids in
- 0:52Speaker 1: winter 2027. Tim Hodgson will be in St. John's tomorrow
- 0:57Speaker 1: to speak on energy issues. People who prefer to book
- 1:01Speaker 1: their airfare the old-fashioned way may be hit with an
- 1:05Speaker 1: extra fee. Air Canada is now charging an extra $ 30
- 1:09Speaker 1: per passenger fee for bookings made over the phone. The
- 1:12Speaker 1: non-refundable booking fee takes effect today. The airline hopes the
- 1:16Speaker 1: move will encourage more travelers to book online or via
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Air Canada app. Buildings and landmarks across the country
- 1:24Speaker 1: are being lit up in purple to mark National Disability
- 1:28Speaker 1: Employment Awareness Month. The occasion is known as Light It
- 1:32Speaker 1: Up Day, a time to highlight the contributions of workers
- 1:35Speaker 1: with disabilities and the importance of creating inclusive workplaces. The
- 1:39Speaker 1: Regional Coordinator for Mentorability at Avalon Employment, Courtney Abbott, says
- 1:45Speaker 1: Barriers to employment vary from person to person.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to kind of paint things in broad strokes,
- 1:51Speaker 2: but just from personal experience, we have folks who maybe
- 1:56Speaker 2: they aren't sure how to sell themselves. So when it
- 1:59Speaker 2: comes to meeting with an employer or conducting an interview,
- 2:01Speaker 2: which can be, you know, a very nerve wracking experience
- 2:04Speaker 2: for anybody. They're not quite sure how to highlight the
- 2:07Speaker 2: skills and the abilities that they have to offer. We
- 2:09Speaker 2: also have folks who encounter maybe some barriers just simply
- 2:13Speaker 2: in the job postings where job postings aren't as accessible
- 2:17Speaker 2: as they could be.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The mentorability program matches job seekers with employers. They then

- 2:33Speaker 1: Vatican officials say the Pope has been resuming some work activities.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Here's more from ABC News.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Everything is positive in terms of the recovery. The key question,
- 2:42Speaker 3: of course, is did the cancer spread? Nothing on that
- 2:45Speaker 3: at the moment. And the Vatican is stressing, I think,
- 2:46Speaker 3: that there will be tests. Those test results could take
- 2:51Speaker 3: some time in terms of determining whether if all of
- 2:55Speaker 3: the cancer was removed and if the cancer had spread
- 2:57Speaker 3: before and whether or not the Pope will need any
- 3:00Speaker 3: form of treatment going forward.
- 3:02Speaker 1: That's your news. I'm Sarah Strickland.
