In Raytown, Missouri, the nation’s largest disability day camp, SOAR Special Needs, is in full swing—welcoming 225 campers daily with a vibrant green carpet and personal cheer squads, all inspired by founder Stephen “Doc” Hunsley’s late son, Mark, whose favorite color was green. Open to kids and adults from age three to fifty-five—including those with complex medical or behavioral needs—SOAR offers not just fun, but respite for families, with 600+ volunteers supporting each camper.
