- 0:04This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Lewis
- 0:08Harold, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland
- 0:12County in Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Lewis as he
- 0:16continues teaching through God's Word.
- 0:37Verse 7 says for a Bishop. Must be blameless.
- 0:40As a steward of God, if we're stewards of.
- 0:42God, then we must understand that we don't own anything.
- 0:46Anything that we have is given to us or entrusted to us.
- 0:51To watch over to. Manage It is not that we own it.
- 0:55We don't own a ministry. We don't have our own people.
- 0:59The congregation belongs to the Lord.
- 1:02Jesus is head of the church. We all answer to him, and that's
- 1:06why the. Word of God is the authority.
- 1:08Have you ever had keys to your workplace before?
- 1:11That can be a big responsibility.
- 1:14A lot of places don't just hand over keys to anyone.
- 1:17They give them to those they know they can trust.
- 1:20When you're given the keys to your workplace, you know that
- 1:23it's not so that you could do whatever you want, but so that
- 1:26you could carry out the business of your employer.
- 1:29In his message today, Pastor Lewis shares with you that when
- 1:32God gives you responsibility in the body of Christ, it's for the
- 1:36purpose of doing his work. Now here's Pastor Lewis in the
- 1:41book of Titus, chapter one with today's edition of Living Waters
- 1:45of Grace. Now this.
- 1:47Whole word, The Senate order. That whole word.
- 1:50Really is a medical term. And it's a term that really
- 1:54deals or refers to. Setting a bone.
- 1:57Setting a bone. Setting something that is out of
- 2:00place in your body? Some orthopedic problem that you
- 2:03may have. That's out of place, Paul says.
- 2:06It's it's a setting in order when those things are out of
- 2:09order if we have a limb. That's out of order.
- 2:12If we have anything that's not lined up right, which.
- 2:15Is why a lot of people will go. You know to the.
- 2:17Specialist to. Line them up and.
- 2:19Get their bodies. Right, because things are out of
- 2:21order. And when they're not in order,
- 2:24it causes pain, it causes discomfort.
- 2:26It causes. Overcompensation of other.
- 2:28Limbs or other areas of your body.
- 2:31Making just cause of dysfunction in your system when things are
- 2:34out of order. Sometimes a bone out of order
- 2:36causes problems and if the body or limb is out of.
- 2:39Order it will let. You know.
- 2:41Because there is. You know that the body system is
- 2:44is chaotic and it just doesn't function properly well.
- 2:49The church is exact. Same way when things are out of.
- 2:51Order if there. Is no order in the.
- 2:54Church there is. Problems.
- 2:57It doesn't function properly. It doesn't function properly.
- 3:01Then there has to be overcompensation because
- 3:03somebody is doing too much, because it's not enough.
- 3:06This is lacking. So somebody feels they got to go
- 3:08over and do that, and then that's lacking.
- 3:10So somebody for the overcompensation.
- 3:12So people are being burned out. People are being, you know, not
- 3:15used. Properly.
- 3:16Or people are getting upset. I mean, when the church is is
- 3:20not in order, things happen in the church.
- 3:23But when it's set in order, when leadership is set in order and
- 3:27things are in order in the church, things go a lot more
- 3:30smoothly. There's not as much affliction,
- 3:32there's not as much chaos, there's not division and the
- 3:35kind of things that can happen when things are.
- 3:38Out of order. And the same thing happens in
- 3:40our own home if things are out of order at home.
- 3:43It's crazy. It's crazy.
- 3:46But when things are in order at home, things run a lot more
- 3:50smoothly. And that's exactly.
- 3:51What, Paul? Is telling Titus put things in
- 3:55order first thing to do? Is to.
- 3:56Put things in. Order So what?
- 4:00Did he do? He commanded him to put.
- 4:02Elders approved elders. In every church.
- 4:07So in verse 6. It talks about what the the
- 4:09attributes. Are of these men who are to be
- 4:11put in place and he says if a man is blameless, the first
- 4:15thing he addresses is the man's home ministry.
- 4:18He says if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having
- 4:21faithful children, not accused of dissipation or
- 4:24insubordination. He said if a man is going to be
- 4:28an elder in the church. He first of all.
- 4:30Needs to have his home ministry taken care of.
- 4:34He needs to be the man. He He reminds us again of what
- 4:37he told Timothy. You know he needs to be a man, a
- 4:41man, a husband of one wife. And we talked about.
- 4:45What that meant before. He can't have 3 or 4 living
- 4:48wives, you know? You know you can't.
- 4:50We're to talk about just having one wife at a time.
- 4:52You marry one divorcer, marry another divorcer.
- 4:54He's not talking about that either.
- 4:56You know that's not one wife, OK, One wife.
- 4:58Is if you if a leader is married.
- 5:01And if the wife. Dies.
- 5:02He can remarry, OK, but not just, you know, divorce and
- 5:06divorce and divorce and divorce. And just to you know, I don't
- 5:09like her. So she's no longer going to be
- 5:10my wife. I'm going to take this one now.
- 5:12Can't do it. That's not what that's not what
- 5:14the Lord intends. It's not what the Lord intends,
- 5:16but it's one wife, husband of one wife.
- 5:19He said having children. Faithful.
- 5:23Children. That means children.
- 5:24Who are are faithful? These are These are.
- 5:26Children who you can rely on Children you can depend on.
- 5:29Children who would. You know who?
- 5:30Who are good examples to some degree and that's why a lot of.
- 5:34People call them pre. K's, you know, a lot of kids
- 5:36don't like to. Be called pre-K.
- 5:38'S because that means that they're kind of out there.
- 5:40People can see. Their their lives and it's true
- 5:43people who are. Raised in the church if they
- 5:46have. Children, their kids.
- 5:47Are looked upon me and you know they want they they should be.
- 5:50They're supposed to be an example.
- 5:52It's supposed to be an example. Now we're only talking about the
- 5:55kids who live in the home. We're not talking about kids who
- 5:57don't live in the home. You don't.
- 5:58No control. Over kids that are.
- 6:00Grown adults and they're doing their own thing, making their
- 6:02own decisions. That's not what he's talking
- 6:04about. He's talking about the kids who
- 6:05are living in your home. Those kids should be kids who
- 6:10are faithful. And not accused of dissipation
- 6:14or insubordination. They should be.
- 6:15Kids who will. Respond to authority and not be
- 6:19those who are. Rebellious to authority.
- 6:22He said. And basically we're saying is if
- 6:24a man can't take care of his own home, then how's he going to be
- 6:27able to? Watch over a church How's.
- 6:29He going to be able to watch. Over a church.
- 6:31And verse 7 says for a Bishop must be blameless as a steward.
- 6:35Of God if we're stewards of. God, then we must understand
- 6:39that we don't own anything. Anything that we have is given
- 6:43to us or entrusted to us. To watch over to.
- 6:47Manage It is not that we own it. We don't own a ministry.
- 6:51We don't have our own people. The congregation belongs to the
- 6:55Lord. Jesus is head of the church.
- 6:57We all answer to him, and that's why the word of.
- 7:00God is the authority. Because we answer to him, we
- 7:04don't answer to just a man. Because a man can tell us to do
- 7:06anything we answer. To the Lord Jesus.
- 7:09Christ according to this word, and that's why it's really
- 7:13important to be in a Bible believing, Bible teaching
- 7:15church. Somebody who really upholds the
- 7:18word of God and. That being the authority, that
- 7:23being the. Authority.
- 7:25So a Bishop. Must be a steward.
- 7:28Now a steward must be faithful. That is a.
- 7:30Requirement of a. Steward.
- 7:32A steward. Must be faithful.
- 7:33First Corinthians chapter 4 verse one and two says let a man
- 7:37so consider us. As servants of Christ.
- 7:40And stewards of the mysteries of God, moreover.
- 7:44It is. Required in stewards that one be
- 7:48found faithful, so it's a requirement to be.
- 7:51Faithful. It's not perfect.
- 7:52We're not going to be perfect, but we should be faithful.
- 7:55We should be reliable. We should be reliable.
- 7:58We should at least do what we say.
- 8:00We're going to do and the things that.
- 8:03We are to do. We should be.
- 8:05Counted upon to do it not wondering if well.
- 8:09We're supposed to have. Bible study here, but I don't
- 8:11know if the pastor's going to show up or not, you know?
- 8:14We're supposed to have a. Wedding but I don't know if he's
- 8:17going to show up and do the wedding or not.
- 8:19You know, has to be reliable. Has to be somebody who's
- 8:21reliable and then he goes on. He says that he can Now these
- 8:25are the not the things that he should not be He should not be
- 8:28self willed. He should not be quick tempered.
- 8:30He should not be given to wine. He should not be violent.
- 8:33Nobody wants a. Pastor that's out there.
- 8:35Or elder that's out there in the, you know, out there in the
- 8:38streets fighting all the time, you know, fisticuffs, somebody
- 8:41gets into an argument with him. Come on, we can take this
- 8:43outside. I don't think y'all want to hear
- 8:46that out of your pastor. You know, you know, we're always
- 8:51brawling you. Know what I mean?
- 8:52Getting into arguments with you all the time.
- 8:54Word debates and, you know, always arguing and just, you
- 8:58know, I got to be right. Because it's self willed.
- 9:00You know, I mean, that's not a good.
- 9:02Attribute for a pastor. So we should not be violent,
- 9:07should not be greedy for money. You know, it's very dangerous
- 9:10for a pastor who is greedy for money in the church.
- 9:12Because if he's greedy for money, then now you got to watch
- 9:14over the offerings and make. Sure that that's always.
- 9:17Being used. For what it should.
- 9:19Be used for and all things are accounted for financially.
- 9:23If he's greedy for money, he's going to always be looking for
- 9:25schemes to try to make more money and that maybe, you know,
- 9:28even farming out himself for more speaking engagement
- 9:30somewhere so he can make money doing that.
- 9:32And then, you know, you're here on Sunday, left without, you
- 9:36know, your pastor speaking to to you on Sundays.
- 9:38You know what I mean? So you know you should not be
- 9:40greedy for money. Verse 8 says he.
- 9:43Should be hospitable now these are things that a pastor.
- 9:46Should be we just? Mentioned 5 things that he
- 9:48shouldn't be, but these are things that he should be and
- 9:51it's about 6 of them. He says he should be hospitable.
- 9:54He should be the. Lover of what?
- 9:55Is good and that lover of. What is good?
- 9:58Is actually not. Just what is good?
- 10:01In terms of things. But also good people.
- 10:04OK, an elder, a leader in. The church should be.
- 10:06Someone who associates with. Believers who are believers who
- 10:11were good and. That doesn't mean that he never
- 10:13associates with unbelievers. It's not what we're saying.
- 10:16What we're saying is though. He should associate with good
- 10:19people. You know, because.
- 10:20The Bible. Tells us in First Corinthians
- 10:22what 1533 that evil communications corrupt good
- 10:26manners, and then in Proverbs 1320 says that you.
- 10:30Walk with the wise. You'll be wise.
- 10:32But you know the companions and fools.
- 10:34Will be destroyed, so. We have to make sure that we.
- 10:37Associate with. Good people.
- 10:40I mean that, you know. All of us should.
- 10:42Should make sure. That we're associated with good
- 10:44people because our good habits. Can be corrupted if we're
- 10:49constantly exposing ourselves to people who don't.
- 10:53Believe what we believe. And not walking out what we or
- 10:57trying to walk. Out what we believe so lover of
- 10:59what is good. Sober minded, Clear minded.
- 11:03Just righteous, upright. Mean living uprightly, living
- 11:07justly, holy, being separated unto God, self-control, having
- 11:13that self-control again. And that's.
- 11:14Really very similar to the attribute.
- 11:17Which talks about being sober minded, but the difference here
- 11:21is that he should be under self-control.
- 11:23That means that he's not just out trying to.
- 11:26Please his. Flesh.
- 11:27And he's always giving into his flesh.
- 11:30He doesn't have no. Control over his flesh.
- 11:33He doesn't have no. Self-control.
- 11:35No self. Constraint to not do things that
- 11:38are disorderly but pleasing the flesh.
- 11:41Talk a little bit a little bit more about that.
- 11:43And then verse 9 says beholding. Fast, the faithful Word.
- 11:47As he has been taught, that means the faithful word that we
- 11:50have been taught. Through the scriptures we've
- 11:52been taught. It through the scriptures and we
- 11:54hold. That fast.
- 11:55Not some man made. Theory about what the scriptures
- 12:00say. Or some man made.
- 12:01Theory about. Some other doctrine.
- 12:04That they are. Putting in place of the Bible,
- 12:07that should not be. We should hold fast the faithful
- 12:10word as He has. Been taught and the reason why.
- 12:13Is so that. He may be able by sound doctrine
- 12:18both to resort and that means to encourage or to.
- 12:23Warn OK to courage. Or to warn and convict.
- 12:28That means the conviction of error.
- 12:30To convict someone of error that someone is.
- 12:32Able to see. And someone able to.
- 12:34Come to the place by. Hearing sound doctrine, they're
- 12:37able to come to the. Place that they realize.
- 12:40That what they're doing or what they're saying is in error.
- 12:43They're convicted of it. OK, so they're convicted.
- 12:47Those who? Contradict like those who are
- 12:49going against it. And that's exactly.
- 12:52What the word of God does for. Us, you know, we really don't
- 12:55have to. It's not the power that any one
- 12:57of us has in US that causes someone to see that they're in
- 13:00error. It's the word of God all you got
- 13:02to do. Is just bring the word.
- 13:03Of God and share look. This is what you said and this
- 13:05is what the. Word of God says.
- 13:07They can see themselves that they're in error.
- 13:09I don't have to do anything to try to convince them that
- 13:12they're in error. I don't have to, you know, go
- 13:13through any kind of, you know, mental gymnastics.
- 13:16Or try to put something logical together.
- 13:18The word of God tells us. It shows us.
- 13:21And that's why when we come to share with someone, if you feel
- 13:24that someone has taught something that is not accurate,
- 13:27bring your Bible. We sit down and the word of God.
- 13:30Will be the authority. Because if you don't bring the
- 13:32word of God, then that means I'm either taking your word or
- 13:34you're taking my word. That ain't going to work.
- 13:36It's not about. Who's right or who's wrong?
- 13:39It's about what's right. And what's wrong according to
- 13:43the word of God? Amen.
- 13:46Amen. Then we go on.
- 13:47And he said in verse 10, he says now for there are many
- 13:51insubordinate, insubordinate, unruly.
- 13:54People he's. Talking about the false teachers
- 13:56that are in Crete now that he sent Titus back to deal with,
- 14:00you know. Titus had a really tough job.
- 14:03I mean, because he's going into an area that's really dangerous.
- 14:06He's going into an. Area where people are, they
- 14:09don't really, they don't take real.
- 14:10Kindly to hearing new things and all of us when we go and share.
- 14:15The Gospel with people. We are sharing the gospel with
- 14:18some people who don't like to hear new things.
- 14:21They don't want to hear things. About Jesus Christ.
- 14:24And we're sharing the gospel with these people and tell them
- 14:27I'm telling you I have been cussed.
- 14:29Out. On the streets, sharing the.
- 14:32Gospel of Jesus Christ because they get just.
- 14:35That angry? So it's really a it's a
- 14:39dangerous. Job, to some degree of what Paul
- 14:41was asking him to go in and do, this is a very immoral place.
- 14:45And he said, and these people were insubordinate.
- 14:47That means that they do not conform.
- 14:50To rules they don't. Conform to ruliness or or.
- 14:53They don't conform to authority. Rather, it's the authority of
- 14:56church leaders or the authority of the Word of God.
- 15:00They're insubordinate. They're both.
- 15:01Idle talkers and deceivers, these are people.
- 15:05Who are idle talk. That means their talk is empty.
- 15:07I mean, they share all these things and they get up and they
- 15:10talk in front of these people when they share their little
- 15:12doctrines, but they're empty. They can't 'cause life change
- 15:17because there's no power in it, there's no anointing in it.
- 15:20It may sound good, it may sound logical, it may stimulate the
- 15:23flesh, but there's no. Power in it.
- 15:25There's nothing that changes. The heart.
- 15:29And we need things that we need to.
- 15:30Hear the word of God, because it's the Word.
- 15:32Of God that changes our hearts when we.
- 15:35Got saved it. Wasn't someone's logic or
- 15:38someone's clever. Speech that got us saved.
- 15:41It was the true. And the word of.
- 15:43God that got us saved, that caused us to see the fact that
- 15:47we are. Sinners and we need.
- 15:50A savior. It's the word of God that
- 15:52reveals that. But when you.
- 15:54Have a false teacher. He's not teaching that what they
- 15:57teach is empty in. Fact, Jude said.
- 15:59They're like. Wells with no water, and they're
- 16:02like clouds that have no water. Well, A.
- 16:05Cloud that has no water you can't bring forth.
- 16:07Life, the whole idea of a. Cloud in the rain is because it
- 16:10brings life on the earth, it gives us vegetation and it gives
- 16:14us things that we can eat and survive on and that's.
- 16:17What the word of God has water it it has it's life.
- 16:20Giving. It's life giving.
- 16:22Not only life giving, but it's life sustaining.
- 16:25Because it can give. Us everlasting, it takes us into
- 16:27everlasting life, so he said. And they're deceivers.
- 16:32And they're deceivers because? They themselves are deceived.
- 16:35They themselves are deceived. Remember what it said over in
- 16:38Second Timothy, over in Second Timothy chapter 3 and verse 12.
- 16:43It said yes. And all who desire to live godly
- 16:46in Christ. Jesus.
- 16:48Will suffer persecution 13 but evil men and.
- 16:52Impostors will grow. Worse and worse, deceiving and
- 16:56being deceived and the reason why they are deceiving.
- 16:59Is because they are deceived. By Satan.
- 17:03Satan is using them to deceive. Others and that's.
- 17:07Why They're being deceived. So then it goes on.
- 17:09It says that. These are those.
- 17:11Of the circumcision that means those who are.
- 17:13The Jewish people who are. Teaching them to come under
- 17:17Jewish bondage. Whose mouths must?
- 17:20Be stopped who subvert whole. Households teaching them things
- 17:24which they ought not now remember back in those.
- 17:27Days the church. Was not a church building that
- 17:29we have right now. The churches was in homes.
- 17:31So these people were going into homes and they were teaching all
- 17:34these strange doctrine. They were.
- 17:35Trying to take over. You know, the Bible studies and
- 17:38they were trying to take over the meetings in these homes and
- 17:40and that's why even we here, you know who have Bible studies and
- 17:44I thank God that we have. Really a good accountable spirit
- 17:48filled teachers. That are teaching the word of
- 17:51God and we go to the homes and we hear somebody teaching we're
- 17:54going to hear. The true.
- 17:55Word of God is coming right out of this.
- 17:57I thank God for that. But we must be.
- 18:00Careful that visitors. Who will come there?
- 18:03That we don't know. That we'll find out about your
- 18:07Bible studies. Will try to come in, sit down
- 18:10and. Eventually, try to take over
- 18:11your Bible study. And try to put in this poison.
- 18:15Little by little, try. To introduce this poison and
- 18:18try. To corrupt the word of God, we
- 18:21have to be careful with that. And be on the.
- 18:24Watch out for that. And this is what Paul is saying
- 18:27to. Titus, these people we're.
- 18:29Putting them in bondage, trying to make these gentile.
- 18:32Believers, go back. Into the bondage under the law.
- 18:36And they don't have to keep the law.
- 18:37They're gentiles. They don't have to keep the law,
- 18:41they don't have to be circumcised in order to be
- 18:43saved. But this is what they were.
- 18:44Teaching whose mouths must. Be stopped who subvert whole.
- 18:48Households teaching things which they are not for the sake of
- 18:53dishonest gain, so they're doing these things out of the
- 18:57selfishness of their own hearts. They're doing it because.
- 19:00They want something. It's not real clear exactly what
- 19:03that dishonest gain was. I don't.
- 19:05Know if that dishonest gain was financial.
- 19:07Usually when the Bible talks about dishonest gain,
- 19:10greediness, it usually is talking about.
- 19:13It usually is. Talking about financial money
- 19:16but dishonest gang can also be. Just trying to get their trust,
- 19:20Dishonestly trying. To, you know, get them to
- 19:22convert to something that is not true dishonestly, you know, So
- 19:26we don't know exactly what they mean when they say dishonest
- 19:28gang. And then verse 13 it says here
- 19:31one of them, a prophet of their own, said Christians must.
- 19:36Are always liars, evil beasts, lazy?
- 19:40Glutton and Paul said in 13 this testimony.
- 19:43Is true. Now that's really wild.
- 19:46Now Accretion is talking about his own.
- 19:49People and he said. Look man, my people are messed
- 19:52up. My people are messed up.
- 19:58He didn't just. Say they're liars, he said.
- 20:01They always. Lying in.
- 20:04Fact they have a. Word in the Mediterranean if
- 20:07someone lies. They'll say that they're.
- 20:10Cretinizing. That's how much they associate
- 20:14lying with the Cretians. They said, oh, he.
- 20:18Just cretinized. He's lying.
- 20:20That's how bad it is. And he?
- 20:22Said they're not just. Evil, he said.
- 20:24They're not just beasts, he said.
- 20:26They're evil. Beasts.
- 20:27They're primal animals. They live their.
- 20:30Lives totally doing nothing but, you know, supporting and
- 20:36satisfying their flesh. If they want to eat.
- 20:40They're just going to go kill something.
- 20:42That's what an animal do. An evil beast just get just go
- 20:44kill someone. I don't.
- 20:45Care what he kills, kills anything, he'll kill his own.
- 20:47To eat evil beast they only want.
- 20:51To do is eat and mate. However their body drives them,
- 20:55that's all they do. And you know, it's funny
- 20:57sometimes when we see these commercials and we see.
- 20:59These little kids. You know, behind these window
- 21:01panes and and we see these animals.
- 21:03Out there these big. Tigers and big lions and, you
- 21:06know, these big cats and, and, and they're coming up to the.
- 21:08Glass Where the kid? Is and then and it looks like
- 21:11they're playing with the kid. They're not playing with that
- 21:13kid. They're animals.
- 21:15Trying to find a way to get over to that kid so we.
- 21:17Can eat him. Because that's what they do.
- 21:20They're. Driven by that and Paul is
- 21:24saying that these. People are evil beasts.
- 21:28They're just driven by. Their flesh driven by their
- 21:32flesh. And he said they're lazy
- 21:33gluttons and the Bible just talk about glutton.
- 21:35And this gluttony really means like excess.
- 21:37This is somebody who is constantly about excess.
- 21:41You know, everything that they do, whether it's eating and here
- 21:43and here they are talking about eating for the most part.
- 21:46But gluttony can also be anything, you know, being greedy
- 21:50for anything, greedy for money, greedy.
- 21:53For power. Greedy for fame, greedy for
- 21:56position, greedy for anything can be given to gluttony.
- 22:00Sexually greedy. You know this insatiable lust or
- 22:04whatnot. Gluttony.
- 22:06Always in excess wine. In excess of wine, They're just
- 22:11the gluttons. And he said they are just.
- 22:13Lazy gluttons and. This is what these false
- 22:16prophets, this guy's the we're describing false prophets here.
- 22:20That are in Crete. That Titus had to deal with.
- 22:23So it wasn't an easy job, it was an easy job.
- 22:27So I just want to say that you know, one of the things that.
- 22:30We have to do as believers is that we always have to check
- 22:35ourselves to see where we. Are in the faith.
- 22:39Where are we? Are there some areas where I
- 22:41really need to give to the? Lord.
- 22:43You know, have I become glutton in any area?
- 22:46Have I become driven by my flesh in any area of my life?
- 22:53Have I began to do? Exercises or do.
- 22:56Different things with the truth. Have I begin to play around with
- 22:59the truth instead of being a straight shooter?
- 23:02Have I begin to manipulate or deceive in any kind of way?
- 23:07We have to check these things out because these things can
- 23:09subtly creep into our own lives. And this is what the.
- 23:13Word of God is. For us, and that's why we
- 23:15should. Love it because it is our.
- 23:18Measuring. It's our monitor.
- 23:20That shows us where. OK, you're too.
- 23:22Far to this side. Come on back over, you know,
- 23:24we've got cars now that have. These corrective.
- 23:27Gadgets in them that if you go across the line it brings you
- 23:30back over. Or or gives you a.
- 23:32Signal and. That's what the Word of God does
- 23:34for us. You're going a little.
- 23:36Bit too far, bit bring you back over.
- 23:38You're going too far that way. It brings you back over.
- 23:40And thank God. For it because we need it.
- 23:43We need it. We can.
- 23:45All fall prey. To that from time to time
- 23:47because. The devil is subtle.
- 23:50In what he does and how he does it.
- 23:52But we're not ignorant. Of his devices.
- 23:54Thank God this has been Living Waters of Grace, a ministry of
- 24:00Pastor Lewis Harrell of Calvary Chapel, Westmoreland.
- 24:04Today's message has been on the book of Titus.
- 24:07This book is a master class in how Christians should live in
- 24:11modern culture. Titus was ministering to the
- 24:14people of Crete, an island off the coast of Greece, but he was
- 24:17facing many challenges. The Cretans who came to know
- 24:21Jesus seemed to assimilate Jesus into their existing culture
- 24:25instead of allowing themselves to be transformed by the Holy
- 24:29Spirit inside of them. Others were fully devoting
- 24:33themselves to Jesus but shutting themselves off from the world
- 24:37around them. The apostle Paul encourages
- 24:40Titus to help his audience find a middle ground where they can
- 24:44live in this world while still following a different way of
- 24:47life in Jesus. If you would like to learn more
- 24:51about what it means to faithfully follow the teachings
- 24:54of Christ in a world full of darkness, we'd love to get
