- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm ready, Are you ready? I think we're all ready.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You are looking somewhat plausibly reasonably live at downtown Kansas
- 0:24Speaker 1: City Union Station. They've done many a championship parade there,
- 0:28Speaker 1: including a couple of months ago. We're going to have
- 0:29Speaker 1: a draft there coming up in three days, the twenty
- 0:33Speaker 1: twenty three Annual Selection Meeting Thursday.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It's finally Draft Week. Everybody.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Welcome to NFL Now, presented by IKEA from our newsroom
- 0:41Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. Hope you had a fantastic weekend. My
- 0:43Speaker 1: name is Andrews Siciliano. This right here is the world's
- 0:46Speaker 1: most interesting former offensive lineman, Brian Bouldinger. Happy Draft Week
- 0:50Speaker 1: two it is.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And you know, just looking at that view of Union
- 0:54Speaker 3: Station in Kansas City, it does seem like we were
- 0:56Speaker 3: just hosting a.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Parade from here because we were. Yes, it's gone by
- 1:00Speaker 2: pretty fast.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we had guys climbing the side of the buses
- 1:03Speaker 1: and all people throwing Bartie trophies at all that.
- 1:07Speaker 3: What else, guys, Yes, little cameo out there for.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Well at the Kansas City already boots on the ground
- 1:14Speaker 1: he and wrappedupboard. Tom Pellisero's little bit happy draft week
- 1:17Speaker 1: to you.
- 1:18Speaker 2: All Right, So let's.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Say Bryce Young, for the sake of the starry kinent
- 1:21Speaker 1: goes one. So ian two and three are fascinating here
- 1:25Speaker 1: because how two and three go? And I don't know
- 1:27Speaker 1: that anyone knows how to and three go. Really that
- 1:30Speaker 1: sets up the rest of Thursday nights.
- 1:33Speaker 4: You know, I think we all can assume at this
- 1:35Speaker 4: point that there's a pretty good chance Bryce Young goes
- 1:37Speaker 4: number one. Which if that is the case, then the
- 1:39Speaker 4: Texans could literally just announce their picket and here's who
- 1:43Speaker 4: we're taking in number two. What's the difference. No one's
- 1:45Speaker 4: going to jump them. They're obviously going to make it,
- 1:47Speaker 4: and they've got the opposite route. No one has any
- 1:50Speaker 4: idea what the Houston Texans are going to do, literally,
- 1:54Speaker 4: no one except for Nick Cassiio and Damiko Riins, which
- 1:56Speaker 4: has led to rumors all over the place from could
- 2:00Speaker 4: the Texans not take a quarterback? Could they just take
- 2:02Speaker 4: the top position player, whether Will Anderson or Hyri Wilson.
- 2:06Speaker 4: If it's not CJ. Shott, is it another quarterback? Nobody knows?
- 2:10Speaker 4: And this really to me is the biggest pivot point
- 2:12Speaker 4: we've seen in years for the draft, because if the
- 2:15Speaker 4: Texans do tom take a quarterback, then it's like, Okay,
- 2:19Speaker 4: the Cardinals will have a chance to auction off their pick,
- 2:21Speaker 4: but I would seem more likely make the selection. If
- 2:24Speaker 4: the Texans pass on a quarterback, then there's a good
- 2:27Speaker 4: chance the Cardinals are able to trade their pick, and
- 2:29Speaker 4: then everything goes bonkers from there.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Right, I mean, this is not like the Trevor Laura
- 2:34Speaker 5: and since Zach Wilson draft, where we pretty much knew
- 2:36Speaker 5: whate of the top two picks were going to be.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Now.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Certainly, over the past week, the belief in league circles
- 2:42Speaker 5: has been that the Texans will not take a quarterback
- 2:45Speaker 5: at two. However, they also own the number twelve pick,
- 2:47Speaker 5: which gives them some flexibility with the additional draft capital
- 2:50Speaker 5: they have from the Deshaun Watson trade, to even potentially
- 2:53Speaker 5: trade up from twelve and still get their quarterback high.
- 2:56Speaker 5: I believe, based upon all the conversations I've had, that
- 2:59Speaker 5: there's a good chance all four of the top quarterbacks
- 3:02Speaker 5: are off the board in the first dozen picks. If
- 3:04Speaker 5: that happens, then the question becomes, when does a fifth
- 3:07Speaker 5: quarterback come off the board. I would tell you in
- 3:10Speaker 5: speaking to gms around the league over the past several
- 3:13Speaker 5: days here there is certainly a feeling that somebody may
- 3:15Speaker 5: be plotting to move up from the top of the
- 3:17Speaker 5: second round to go get Hendon Hooker from Tennessee. He's
- 3:20Speaker 5: coming off the torn acl He's probably gonna be a
- 3:22Speaker 5: pup list guy. Eve though he should be cleared right
- 3:24Speaker 5: around the start of the regular season. We're probably not
- 3:26Speaker 5: ready to play in September. So to move into the
- 3:29Speaker 5: first round, you would get the fifth year option, basically
- 3:31Speaker 5: get that additional year.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:32Speaker 5: He'll be twenty six years old and the not too
- 3:35Speaker 5: distant future here, so this is an older quarterback. But
- 3:37Speaker 5: everybody likes the guy in Hendon Hooker. He throws a
- 3:40Speaker 5: good ball. Yes, he's going to need a transition period
- 3:43Speaker 5: coming from that wacky offense that they run at Tennessee
- 3:46Speaker 5: with everything spread out and they're using hand signals to communicate.
- 3:49Speaker 5: But he's actually going to get that time where there's
- 3:51Speaker 5: these other quarterbacks. No matter what anybody says, history would
- 3:54Speaker 5: tell you those top four guys are going to see
- 3:56Speaker 5: the field sooner than later.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's our wacky insider's talking the wacky offense of Tennessee
- 4:00Speaker 1: here the insiders inside the green room there backstage, Thank
- 4:06Speaker 1: you gentlemen in Kansas r He's.
- 4:09Speaker 7: Taking a shot and is able to get it away.
- 4:12Speaker 2: H Chris Young thread a needle, what strike?
- 4:16Speaker 6: Crowd fires deep down to the end zone and it
- 4:18Speaker 6: is grabbing the ends up.
- 4:19Speaker 3: CJ strout, Wow it throw Young in the middle, touchdown
- 4:24Speaker 3: rights Young, CJ shreds Je running Strown on the move,
- 4:28Speaker 3: flips of the bus right on the money, try oft
- 4:30Speaker 3: prece shot on fill.
- 4:32Speaker 2: This guy is good. Let's try you fast cut a
- 4:34Speaker 2: nice arm 'n' strapt here. He loves to do and
- 4:36Speaker 2: he'll load it up and cut it loose. Throws a dark.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You know, we said it's probably Bryce Young, but a
- 4:45Speaker 1: lot can change between now and Thursday. And let's face it,
- 4:47Speaker 1: no one really knows what the Panthers are gonna do.
- 4:49Speaker 3: We can only project.
- 4:50Speaker 1: So we'll say that our mock drafts have Brice Young, CJ.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Stroud and all the one outlier because Maurice shown Strew
- 4:56Speaker 1: always tries to do interesting and different things with his
- 4:59Speaker 1: mock is Anthony Richardson there pottention cam Wolfe is there
- 5:05Speaker 1: we know not potentially he is actually live in Charlotte
- 5:10Speaker 1: in the building right now. Happy draft, you can what's
- 5:13Speaker 1: the word there?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Andrew?
- 5:16Speaker 8: Talking with people across the league, the vibe continues to
- 5:19Speaker 8: be that all signs points to the Panthers taking Alabamia
- 5:22Speaker 8: quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick and Scott
- 5:25Speaker 8: Federer or the Panthers GM met with coaches on Thursday
- 5:29Speaker 8: and Friday to finalize that decision. Now he has it,
- 5:32Speaker 8: and don't expect them to make a public announcement that
- 5:35Speaker 8: it will be Bryce Young. Part of the intrigue of
- 5:38Speaker 8: the draft is the unknown, and so it leaves open
- 5:41Speaker 8: the surprise that maybe it's a CJ. Stroud or Athony Richardson.
- 5:45Speaker 8: But one thing to note is the Panthers brass has
- 5:47Speaker 8: been adamant that they made this move up to number one,
- 5:50Speaker 8: knowing that they control the draft, so they don't need
- 5:52Speaker 8: to have smoke screens throwing teams off because they are
- 5:55Speaker 8: the first team in the draft. So they get a
- 5:58Speaker 8: chance to make this franchise changing decision Thursday at eight pm,
- 6:02Speaker 8: and all signs point to it being Bryce Young.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Okay, why Bryce Young? Cam?
- 6:06Speaker 1: I mean, they've gone through this whole process seeing everyone
- 6:08Speaker 1: up close, had them all in the building as well.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Why the guy from Alabama?
- 6:13Speaker 8: Yeah, many people across the league think that Bryce Young
- 6:15Speaker 8: simply the best quarterback in this draft, and our Daniel
- 6:18Speaker 8: Jeremiah has him as the number one player on his board.
- 6:21Speaker 8: Is his ability to process. He goes through reads like
- 6:23Speaker 8: no other quarterback in this draft. He showed up at
- 6:26Speaker 8: Alabama in big games making huge throws. We saw him
- 6:30Speaker 8: when the Heisman Trophy his sophomore year. And really the
- 6:33Speaker 8: only knock you can find talking with people is his size,
- 6:36Speaker 8: the fact that he's a five to ten two hundred
- 6:38Speaker 8: and four pound quarterback, and the Panthers have been adamant
- 6:41Speaker 8: that that will not be a significant factor and their decision.
- 6:44Speaker 8: Jim Scott Bitterer kept bringing up the fact that he
- 6:47Speaker 8: and Dan Morgan were in Seattle when they drafted Russell Wilson,
- 6:51Speaker 8: who was also a five to ten two hundred ish quarterback,
- 6:55Speaker 8: and they mentioned they can give him nutrition and tips
- 6:57Speaker 8: so that he can get bigger, and they also noted
- 7:00Speaker 8: that his size did not show up often on tape.
- 7:02Speaker 8: He has a high release, and so he brought up
- 7:04Speaker 8: the fact that Vice Young only had two bad at
- 7:06Speaker 8: passes in his final year in college, whereas Russell Wilson
- 7:10Speaker 8: had three. And so they feel comfortable making this push,
- 7:13Speaker 8: making this aggressive move, getting the guy. They believe that
- 7:16Speaker 8: it's their top quarterback on the board and not letting
- 7:19Speaker 8: the size question marks dissuade them.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And as you mentioned, he is number one on Daniel
- 7:23Speaker 1: Jeremiah's Big Board, the final Top one fifty currently on
- 7:28Speaker 1: NFL dot com. Camwolfe, currently at Bank of America Stadium,
- 7:31Speaker 1: Thank you, Cam. Let's look at the quarterbacks, Bryce Young
- 7:36Speaker 1: CJ Stroud on NFL. Now, they're both really good, I
- 7:40Speaker 1: mean really really good.
- 7:42Speaker 2: One what a husband.
- 7:43Speaker 1: The other barely threw a pick eighty seven total touchdowns,
- 7:47Speaker 1: eighty six total touchdowns. I mean, like, how do you
- 7:51Speaker 1: figure out which one you want? Turn of the safe
- 7:54Speaker 1: state him and then you pick one. Here, let's bringing
- 7:57Speaker 1: Mark Ross and Lance their line and let's just assume
- 7:59Speaker 1: it is Bryce Young. All right, let's just play along
- 8:01Speaker 1: for the sake of this conversation. Here, Lance, you are
- 8:03Speaker 1: in Houston. I mean, if Thick Sario doesn't go CJ.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Stroud or doesn't take a quarterback at two, I mean,
- 8:12Speaker 1: all heck breaks lose, doesn't it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you know my mock three point zero.
- 8:17Speaker 9: I think I was the first one to not have
- 8:18Speaker 9: Stroud going either Stroud or Young, and I just put
- 8:21Speaker 9: a few different elements together that led me to believe
- 8:24Speaker 9: that it.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Was a very real possibility.
- 8:26Speaker 9: It wasn't any inside information, but when you start to
- 8:28Speaker 9: piece things together from a football standpoint, you could.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Start to see how maybe they would pass on CJ. Stroud.
- 8:34Speaker 9: They have a ton of needs on the defensive side,
- 8:37Speaker 9: so if they go, you know, a non quarterback at two,
- 8:40Speaker 9: I really believe Will Anderson and Tyree Wilson are the
- 8:43Speaker 9: two guys that they could look at. Now, will they
- 8:45Speaker 9: find a trade up partner? I just don't see it happening.
- 8:49Speaker 9: I don't think there's a big enough rush to jump
- 8:51Speaker 9: up and get CJ.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Stroud at this particular time.
- 8:54Speaker 9: And I don't think anyone's going to trade up for
- 8:55Speaker 9: Will Levis all the way to number two. I just
- 8:57Speaker 9: don't see that. So what are the Texans going to
- 9:00Speaker 9: do then a quarterback? Could they go with their number
- 9:03Speaker 9: twelve pick and move up? I did that in my
- 9:05Speaker 9: point three to Zho. I had them moving up for
- 9:07Speaker 9: Will Levis all the way from pick number twelve to
- 9:09Speaker 9: pick number seven, but I think Will Levis could be.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Off the board there.
- 9:12Speaker 9: So I think what the Houston Texans you may need
- 9:15Speaker 9: to settle in for is that they could be taking
- 9:17Speaker 9: a look at Trey Lance, at maybe mac Jones if
- 9:21Speaker 9: he becomes available over there in New England. They may
- 9:23Speaker 9: be punting this decision down the road, or they could
- 9:27Speaker 9: look in the mid rounds the guys like you know,
- 9:29Speaker 9: Jake Hayner or Aidan O'Connell or a player of that
- 9:33Speaker 9: nature who might quote unquote fit the offense of Bobby Slowyck.
- 9:36Speaker 9: But certainly if you don't take quarterback in the first round,
- 9:39Speaker 9: and I haven't really heard them connected with Hinton Hooker,
- 9:43Speaker 9: this really opens up a question about are you just
- 9:45Speaker 9: punting until next year in the quarterback market?
- 9:49Speaker 7: Yeah, Lanson, we know the fans down there in Houston
- 9:51Speaker 7: would not be happy about that. I with that. They
- 9:55Speaker 7: have been starving and begging for a quarterback and here
- 9:58Speaker 7: they are the second pick, with the second pick after
- 10:00Speaker 7: winning that last game, losing out on the first pick
- 10:02Speaker 7: in the draft. But you know, everyone's assuming that it
- 10:05Speaker 7: is quarterback and the fans want that, but the organization
- 10:08Speaker 7: may not be in love with any of these guys.
- 10:10Speaker 7: We just keep thinking, yes, because they're there, you have
- 10:13Speaker 7: to take a quarterback. But an organization has to be
- 10:16Speaker 7: fully on page, on board with everyone gn head, coach,
- 10:20Speaker 7: ownership to say this is our guy, and if it's not,
- 10:23Speaker 7: you can't force that. Demiko Ryans just got there. Obviously
- 10:27Speaker 7: he's going to have some stability for a while. Probably
- 10:29Speaker 7: has the nod from ownership to say, yep, build this
- 10:33Speaker 7: the way you want to. Don't be forced to take
- 10:35Speaker 7: someone you do not want to take. If that's on
- 10:38Speaker 7: the defensive side, so be it for Demiko. But the
- 10:41Speaker 7: way you look at this rosters Lance mentioned it might
- 10:43Speaker 7: be best to get out of there if they're not crazy
- 10:45Speaker 7: about anybody at two and get more picks because they
- 10:48Speaker 7: have so many needs there. But yes, they're definitely the
- 10:51Speaker 7: intrigue of the draft there at number two. Baldy and
- 10:54Speaker 7: the late rumors about lev Is going into I can't
- 10:56Speaker 7: see that at all. That sounds a little bit like
- 10:58Speaker 7: when Mac Jones was at three there a couple of
- 11:00Speaker 7: years ago.
- 11:01Speaker 3: To san frame, you know, Mark, I want to go
- 11:04Speaker 3: back to what you just said about Demiko Ryans and
- 11:06Speaker 3: his involvement. If you just think about he just left
- 11:09Speaker 3: San Francisco. They drafted Trey Lance when he was there,
- 11:11Speaker 3: they went through the Garoppolo deal, and then after the
- 11:14Speaker 3: injuries to both those players, there's Rock Party, mister irrelevant
- 11:18Speaker 3: taking that team on an eight to zero run into
- 11:20Speaker 3: the playoffs. And I can't help but think, like, there
- 11:23Speaker 3: is different ways to build your organization. Demiko's not in
- 11:27Speaker 3: a rush.
- 11:27Speaker 2: If they're not in love with CJ.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Stroud for whatever reason, or one of the other quarterbacks
- 11:32Speaker 3: at number two, do what San Francisco has been doing.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Just build the best possible roster you can with the
- 11:39Speaker 3: most talent, and then if you plug in Rock Purty
- 11:43Speaker 3: like they did, he can have a chance to flourish
- 11:46Speaker 3: like he did with good coaching and that kind of thing.
- 11:48Speaker 3: So I can't help but think that that can't be
- 11:51Speaker 3: in the back of their minds right now of what
- 11:54Speaker 3: Dimiko just went through in San Francisco, and so I
- 11:56Speaker 3: can see them, to Lance's point, maybe not taking a quarterback,
- 12:00Speaker 3: as you said in You Know Lance three point zero,
- 12:03Speaker 3: that you didn't have him taking a quarterback with the
- 12:05Speaker 3: second selection, and that seems to be growing outside the
- 12:09Speaker 3: walls of Houston right now.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Lancer line started the punt on quarterback at two Craze
- 12:16Speaker 1: just a few weeks ago.
- 12:17Speaker 2: And you know I took all the the bows and
- 12:21Speaker 2: the arrows came out in Houston. I was boy. They
- 12:24Speaker 2: wanted me out of this city. Lance.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We even put your son Squeet up on the screen.
- 12:28Speaker 1: He was taking shots at you two. But we know
- 12:30Speaker 1: your serious, Lance, because you've put the coat and tie
- 12:32Speaker 1: on for draft. Yes you did, and for that we're thankful.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Thank you Lance, thank you Mark. It is almost here.
- 12:40Speaker 1: It is almost time for a Kansas City at the
- 12:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty three NFL Draft. It is presented by for Horizon.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It is live, it is in primetime. It is Thursday
- 12:51Speaker 1: in Kansas City. It is eight pm in Eastern time.
- 12:54Speaker 2: We cordially request your attendants.
- 13:07Speaker 1: On displayed the different types of throws, whether it's short, long,
- 13:09Speaker 1: on the run. Put some touch.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Fact that I don't look like most quarterbacks, I think
- 13:12Speaker 6: is a good deal.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Let us laid it right on the money.
- 13:15Speaker 10: Whenever there's a football in my hands, always funs me
- 13:18Speaker 10: and I'm annatal throw being out there launching a ball,
- 13:20Speaker 10: just talking around with my brother.
- 13:21Speaker 2: You know, that's just what we do today. Touchdown greater.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I prided myself and being able to change my room.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Angling can throw with whatever it is is necessary, right,
- 13:29Speaker 2: young thread should may I love the rhythm?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Of course, that's what football was about, moment sad and
- 13:32Speaker 3: things like that.
- 13:33Speaker 2: It's not in Michael Charlocke's that guy who was daying
- 13:35Speaker 2: andrew what I do on the field, Cee Jay's drought.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Who would have run?
- 13:40Speaker 1: So the top of the draft goes Carolina, Houston, Arizona
- 13:45Speaker 1: and then Indie sitting there at number four. And our
- 13:49Speaker 1: mock draft picks are kind of all over the board.
- 13:52Speaker 1: There's quarterbacks, there's Tyree Wilson, Lance earlier and Lance with
- 13:57Speaker 1: the Stacey tails with us as well, had their stations.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Lance earlier had a trade for Lamark Jackson that it
- 14:02Speaker 1: was a couple of weeks ago, but that's when Lance
- 14:04Speaker 1: flowed to the whole.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Maybe the Hexans don't take a quarterback here. We'll get
- 14:06Speaker 2: to the Colts and whether they take.
- 14:08Speaker 1: One in a second. But Stacy, let's start with you
- 14:10Speaker 1: here because you're going to be in Indianapolis four draft
- 14:14Speaker 1: night coming up on Thursday. It is Chris Ballard's seventh draft.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Why is it so vital for them to get the
- 14:21Speaker 1: quarterback thing right this year.
- 14:24Speaker 11: Yeah, hello, gentlemen, it is vital Andrew, because this will
- 14:28Speaker 11: be the eighth straight year that the Indianapolis Cult start
- 14:31Speaker 11: their season with a new quarterback. And so when you
- 14:34Speaker 11: look at historically, let me provide some context for Chris Ballard,
- 14:37Speaker 11: because he's had obviously you just mentioned it, six previous drafts.
- 14:41Speaker 11: He's only used three first round picks. He's been very
- 14:45Speaker 11: well known to trade and actually for the last five
- 14:47Speaker 11: years they've made a first round trade or a trade
- 14:50Speaker 11: with one of their first round picks, which is why
- 14:53Speaker 11: they haven't necessarily picked in the first round. But when
- 14:57Speaker 11: you consider this draft, he's only drafted two quarterbacks Chris
- 15:01Speaker 11: Ballard in his now seventh season as he enters this
- 15:03Speaker 11: one Sam Ellinger in the sixth round and twenty twenty one,
- 15:07Speaker 11: and then Jacob Eeson in twenty twenty twenty twenty in
- 15:10Speaker 11: the fourth round. My point being here is this is
- 15:13Speaker 11: unchartered territory for Chris Ballard and company. And with the
- 15:17Speaker 11: fourth pick, he is open to moving up or down.
- 15:19Speaker 11: And I think they've obviously assessed all of those elements
- 15:22Speaker 11: in knowing how far back they're willing to go based
- 15:25Speaker 11: upon their board or how far up they're willing to go,
- 15:28Speaker 11: which would be obviously most likely to three with the
- 15:31Speaker 11: Arizona Cardinals. But all that will happen in the moment.
- 15:36Speaker 11: So this is absolutely vital for the Indianapolis Colts. I
- 15:39Speaker 11: know Shane Steike and Lance has been very involved the
- 15:41Speaker 11: new head coach in this process because listen, he's coached
- 15:45Speaker 11: some really good quarterbacks, Philip Rivers, justin Herbert just came
- 15:48Speaker 11: from Jalen Hurts. He's so adaptable when it comes to
- 15:52Speaker 11: the position. And so when you ask Chris Ballard, you know,
- 15:57Speaker 11: are you relying just solely on what your coach wants
- 16:00Speaker 11: because you can go any direction. Do you want a
- 16:02Speaker 11: mobile quarterback or do you want a statue like Philip Rivers.
- 16:05Speaker 11: I think it's been a really unique blend as they've
- 16:08Speaker 11: gone about this process, Lance and I think they're going.
- 16:10Speaker 2: To strike on a quarterback early on Thursday.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Well, l let's consider this too. Is there a possibility
- 16:16Speaker 1: here that they don't just take a quarterback for the
- 16:19Speaker 1: sake of taking a quarterback like we said before with Houston.
- 16:21Speaker 1: If Bryce Young is gone and c J. Stroud is gone,
- 16:24Speaker 1: and obviously a lot of people say they might like
- 16:26Speaker 1: Will Levis. Ballard pushed back on Friday and his presser
- 16:29Speaker 1: against any idea that he's in love with any particular
- 16:32Speaker 1: quarterback here. Might they punt on a quarterback if they
- 16:35Speaker 1: don't like the quarterback option still there at four?
- 16:39Speaker 9: Listen, I still think it's a possibility. I'm not going
- 16:42Speaker 9: to say it's the favorite. I think what Stacy's laying
- 16:44Speaker 9: out is the favorite. But I think you have to
- 16:46Speaker 9: consider Chris Ballard and the Indianapolis Colts moving back if
- 16:50Speaker 9: they don't believe in a quarterback. Now, I know it
- 16:52Speaker 9: sounds difficult because time is running out, and if CJ.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Stroud is there, you know, you think, well, how could
- 16:57Speaker 2: you not draft CJ. Stroud?
- 16:59Speaker 9: But if the Colts don't believe in a quarterback, I
- 17:02Speaker 9: could see them in a scenario trading back and then,
- 17:06Speaker 9: you know, maybe working some magic with another quarterback. I'm
- 17:08Speaker 9: of the opinion that one of the quarterbacks is going.
- 17:11Speaker 2: To slide out of the top ten. I believe a
- 17:12Speaker 2: quarterback will slide. Will it be Levis, Will it be Richardson?
- 17:17Speaker 2: My guess would be Richardson.
- 17:18Speaker 9: But you know, if you look at Richardson, he has
- 17:20Speaker 9: the potential to be a cult where Shane Steiken had
- 17:22Speaker 9: Jalen Hurts or the Colts could say we're waiting until
- 17:25Speaker 9: next year and we're going to continue to do what
- 17:27Speaker 9: we do. Chris Ballard still has several years left on
- 17:31Speaker 9: his deal and he has famously said he's always going
- 17:34Speaker 9: to look out for what's best for the Indianapolis Colts.
- 17:36Speaker 9: And I've known him for a long time. He doesn't
- 17:39Speaker 9: reach on players. He refuses to reach. He wants to
- 17:42Speaker 9: take good football players he can win with. So he's
- 17:44Speaker 9: got to believe in that quarterback to take them.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Stacy, we kind of are hitting on Trace before.
- 17:48Speaker 1: But go back to Shane Steike in now, first time
- 17:50Speaker 1: of the building here working with Chris Ballard. What are
- 17:52Speaker 1: they specifically we think looking for in AQB.
- 17:56Speaker 11: Well, Chris Ballard has said it, Shane Steiken has said it.
- 18:00Speaker 11: The new offensive coordinator, Jim Bob Couter has said it.
- 18:03Speaker 11: The number one word is accuracy, and it's decision making
- 18:06Speaker 11: and then it's a playmaker. And so when you consider
- 18:09Speaker 11: these really top five quarterbacks, because I still have Hendon
- 18:12Speaker 11: Hooker in the mix, given the numbers that he put
- 18:15Speaker 11: up in college, you can call it the air raid
- 18:16Speaker 11: offense as much as you want, but his numbers are
- 18:18Speaker 11: staggering when you consider accuracy decision making. This is the
- 18:22Speaker 11: twenty twenty two season for each of these young men
- 18:25Speaker 11: in alphabetical order, because I didn't want to pick favorites. Here,
- 18:29Speaker 11: Hooker seventy percent this past season. And look at the
- 18:32Speaker 11: touchdown to interception ratio will Levis right there around sixty five.
- 18:36Speaker 11: And then if you jump down, you've got And by
- 18:39Speaker 11: the way, this little number just kind of to the
- 18:41Speaker 11: bottom is how many starts they had this past season.
- 18:44Speaker 11: But three of those guys, Levis, Stroud, and Young right
- 18:47Speaker 11: in the mid sixties in terms of their completion percentage.
- 18:51Speaker 2: But look at the.
- 18:52Speaker 11: Touchdown interception ratio for CJ. Stroud, for Bryce Young, for
- 18:56Speaker 11: Hendon Hooker. I mean, it's pretty staggering. Richardson's got the
- 18:59Speaker 11: least amount of experience, as we all know and understand.
- 19:02Speaker 11: But guys, he is dynamic in person. If you meet
- 19:06Speaker 11: Anthony Richardson, you will be blown away by his personality.
- 19:10Speaker 11: He's willing us to win. And then Levis is one
- 19:12Speaker 11: of the most unique guys because he's just such an
- 19:16Speaker 11: unrelenting worker and he's so intense so it's all going
- 19:21Speaker 11: to come down to for me. Obviously, those two quarterbacks,
- 19:24Speaker 11: Bryce Young and CJ. Stroud are thought to be flying
- 19:27Speaker 11: off the board. Now some people think maybe Will Levis
- 19:29Speaker 11: has jumped up and CJ. Stroud's dropping, which I agree
- 19:33Speaker 11: with Lance. I mean, if Stroud is there for the
- 19:35Speaker 11: Colts at for Boom, take them. But generally speaking, this
- 19:39Speaker 11: is going to come down to, as Lance said, Chris
- 19:42Speaker 11: Ballard sticks to his board, and if that guy is
- 19:45Speaker 11: there in the vicinity of that fourth pick, I see
- 19:48Speaker 11: him taking a quarterback based upon the one they like
- 19:52Speaker 11: best in their meetings, the time they've spent with them,
- 19:56Speaker 11: and the due diligence they've done. But it has been
- 19:58Speaker 11: a really intense process, I know, and talking to folks.
- 20:01Speaker 10: With the Colts.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I love the whiteboard.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Hey, who's on social today, mccal andal. Can we get
- 20:06Speaker 1: Stacy Dale's whiteboard its own Twitter handle? Dale's whiteboard, somebody
- 20:12Speaker 1: goes go get that handle right now, let's do it.
- 20:15Speaker 1: They don't verify him anymore. What does it matter. Someone
- 20:18Speaker 1: grab Dale's whiteboard, make it a new Twitter handle.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Thank you, Stacy.
- 20:24Speaker 12: We're the fifty third pick in the twenty twenty NFL draft,
- 20:28Speaker 12: the Philadelphia Eagles select Jalen Hurts, quarterback Oklahoma.
- 20:44Speaker 1: That was three years ago. Today, Jalen Hurts won fifty
- 20:47Speaker 1: third overall. From the basement Roger Goodell's basement to the
- 20:50Speaker 1: penthouse of the NFC. They are Super Bowl rather NFC champions,
- 20:54Speaker 1: to beg your pardon. And last week Jalen Hurts, entering
- 20:57Speaker 1: year number four, got himself a rather sizable contract five years,
- 21:01Speaker 1: two fifty five.
- 21:02Speaker 2: He was on the podium today.
- 21:06Speaker 10: But you look at all the great teams and great players.
- 21:10Speaker 10: It takes a village. It takes a village. And you know,
- 21:14Speaker 10: I know that last year, I mean in my first
- 21:18Speaker 10: three years, but just playing around at different guys that
- 21:21Speaker 10: I've been able to play around, we got something special
- 21:24Speaker 10: going on and you know, we all want to do
- 21:29Speaker 10: it for a long time. So that was important to
- 21:33Speaker 10: me to take that approach with it, to.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Take an approach for the Eagles can still be active
- 21:39Speaker 1: in free agency, which they were back at March end.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Where the Eagles can still go out and stock up
- 21:45Speaker 1: on talent. They have two first round picks, including tenth overall,
- 21:50Speaker 1: ten and thirty. What are they going to do? The
- 21:54Speaker 1: options are preferable James Palmer is going to be there
- 21:59Speaker 1: in Philadelphia on Thursday night. James, let's start with ten.
- 22:02Speaker 2: What are we hearing?
- 22:05Speaker 6: Look down there at Peter Scheger and he has Bjeon Robinson,
- 22:07Speaker 6: the running back out of Texas, going to the Eagles
- 22:10Speaker 6: at number ten. Now, this would be outside of the
- 22:12Speaker 6: norm for Howi Roseman. We know the way Eagles, and
- 22:14Speaker 6: he builds this team from the inside out. They work
- 22:17Speaker 6: on the trenches. But if you look at what he
- 22:18Speaker 6: said in his press conference last week, they don't think
- 22:21Speaker 6: they're going to be picking this high in the draft
- 22:23Speaker 6: in the next several years. They feel like they need
- 22:25Speaker 6: to hit on a unique talent that can make an
- 22:27Speaker 6: impact right away, but also said they need to be
- 22:29Speaker 6: open minded when they're looking at number ten. This is
- 22:32Speaker 6: outside of the box for the Eagles. But when I
- 22:34Speaker 6: talked to several teams over the weekend in the NFC,
- 22:38Speaker 6: I'll tell you this, they do not want the Eagles
- 22:40Speaker 6: to draft b Jon Robinson. They believe that would make
- 22:43Speaker 6: this offense beyond scary. You saw the contract extension in
- 22:46Speaker 6: the press conference with Jalen Hurts today. Perhaps this takes
- 22:50Speaker 6: some of the carries off of his workload. With b
- 22:53Speaker 6: John Robinson stepping in and being Baldy, probably that number
- 22:55Speaker 6: one back right away. Running back is a need for
- 22:58Speaker 6: the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 22:59Speaker 2: In this draft.
- 23:00Speaker 6: They did get Rashad Penny, who has had issues staying healthy.
- 23:03Speaker 6: They do really like Kenneth Gainwell, but there are a
- 23:05Speaker 6: lot of people around the league that believe that this
- 23:07Speaker 6: pick would change their offense. And you remember how he
- 23:10Speaker 6: would not with how he rosemen what owner Jeffrey Lourie
- 23:12Speaker 6: said at the owner's meetings just recently, you have to
- 23:15Speaker 6: have a dynamic offense. Every Super Bowl they have been
- 23:18Speaker 6: in Baldi, the offenses have been really unable to be stopped.
- 23:22Speaker 6: And you add another piece around Jalen Hurts. There's a
- 23:24Speaker 6: thought around the league that this will be a very
- 23:26Speaker 6: difficult offense to stop.
- 23:27Speaker 3: So this is I mean, just to put it in
- 23:30Speaker 3: perspective of what you're talking aboutside the box. The last
- 23:32Speaker 3: time the Eagles as an organization drafted running back the
- 23:35Speaker 3: first round was Keith Byers at Ohio State in nineteen
- 23:38Speaker 3: eighty six. I played with Keith. He was a great player,
- 23:40Speaker 3: good teammate, but that's how he was eleven. The last
- 23:44Speaker 3: time the Eagles drafted running back the first round, right,
- 23:47Speaker 3: But to your point here, but in philosophy is you
- 23:52Speaker 3: find your signal call or you find your quarterback, you
- 23:55Speaker 3: pay him your second contract, and then you never stop
- 23:57Speaker 3: building around him.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And if you put Bijon in.
- 24:00Speaker 3: That backfield with Jalen Hurts, and then you added a
- 24:04Speaker 3: starting guard maybe with that thirtieth pick, maybe Osiris Torry,
- 24:09Speaker 3: and you put him between Kelsey and Lane Johnson, to me,
- 24:13Speaker 3: this is pretty simple.
- 24:14Speaker 2: You keep this offense humming and Jalen Hurts.
- 24:17Speaker 3: You just keep giving them weapons and the maybe the
- 24:21Speaker 3: best offensive line of football. Let them go to work
- 24:24Speaker 3: and just put up points every week, and then you
- 24:26Speaker 3: do everything else you can to address the defense with
- 24:30Speaker 3: your remaining picks of the draft.
- 24:31Speaker 1: All right, so let's pretend that Howie is not drafting
- 24:33Speaker 1: like an eleven year old, or drafting like Eagles drafted
- 24:35Speaker 1: when he was eleven and maybe better said, an eleven
- 24:37Speaker 1: year old would take a running back because they're funny, right, Yeah,
- 24:41Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 24:42Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 24:43Speaker 2: They would do they?
- 24:44Speaker 10: Well?
- 24:45Speaker 6: No, well, well we could look at and Baldy mentioned
- 24:47Speaker 6: that offensive line and he hit on something very specific.
- 24:50Speaker 2: There there is a.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Hole at right guard right now. That's the only hole
- 24:53Speaker 6: on this offensive line. And to me, if you're looking
- 24:56Speaker 6: to build through the trenches and Paris Johnson Junior is
- 24:59Speaker 6: sitting there from Ohio State, they're left tackle, you could
- 25:02Speaker 6: jump on him.
- 25:02Speaker 3: And I know the Eagles like him.
- 25:04Speaker 6: He took a visit there and I've heard the visit
- 25:06Speaker 6: went very well, and I mentioned him playing guard. He
- 25:08Speaker 6: did that for a full season at Ohio State before
- 25:11Speaker 6: he moved out to tackle. So you could fix your
- 25:14Speaker 6: guard issue in the immediate future by putting Johnson there
- 25:17Speaker 6: and his Baldy said, in a young player that has
- 25:20Speaker 6: a high football character. After I spend some time with
- 25:22Speaker 6: him at Ohio States prode and talk to a lot
- 25:24Speaker 6: of people around the league about him, the growth that
- 25:26Speaker 6: he could have as a football player. Between Jason Kelsey
- 25:30Speaker 6: and Lane Johnson, and then eventually playing out at the
- 25:32Speaker 6: tackle spot. You know Lane's going to be there for
- 25:34Speaker 6: at least two more years, they're saying, and then you
- 25:37Speaker 6: have the ability to plug him outside. I know there's
- 25:40Speaker 6: a lot of thought that Cam Jurgens, who they took
- 25:41Speaker 6: him the second round a center, could play that guard spot.
- 25:45Speaker 6: My understanding against it's not a slam dunk, Baldy that
- 25:47Speaker 6: that's just a plug and play at right guard. And
- 25:49Speaker 6: remember that this could be the last year for Jason
- 25:51Speaker 6: Kelcey at the center position if he retires, so then
- 25:54Speaker 6: you have that offensive line in play. This is a
- 25:56Speaker 6: special talent in terms of traits. His bend is unbelievably
- 26:00Speaker 6: special when I talk to evaluators Andrew, and also just
- 26:03Speaker 6: the way he moves at his size needs to get
- 26:06Speaker 6: stronger when I talk to a lot of people. But
- 26:08Speaker 6: at the same time, this could be a guy that
- 26:09Speaker 6: fixes an immediate need and also a future need for
- 26:13Speaker 6: the potentially the next decade.
- 26:14Speaker 2: But you want Bijon right just to be fun. Of course,
- 26:16Speaker 2: it's fun to make it fun.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I'm all for the fun.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I'm here for the chaos.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'm here for the fun. Hey, last year they traded
- 26:21Speaker 1: for aj Brown went on the clock right, so that
- 26:24Speaker 1: was fun, and gave him a contractor as well, and
- 26:26Speaker 1: gave him a contract, got the contract down while there
- 26:28Speaker 1: I worked out, which is just bonkers. I think it
- 26:29Speaker 1: worked out. Okay, they're not trading for Derek Henry. By
- 26:32Speaker 1: the way, don't read everything you read on Twitter. Thank
