Transcript
- 0:00Does it ever feel like no matter how much rest you get your energy is always
- 0:04depleted? The problem isn't really your routine, the problem isn't really your
- 0:10routine. The problem is the social weeds that are in your circle of, of friends,
- 0:15stealing your vital resources.
- 0:20Pruning isn't cruel, it's H.I.T.
- 0:23necessary maintenance. You have to learn how to identify these social
- 0:29invaders
- 0:31Invasive species,
- 0:33you can actually flourish.
- 0:37By
- 0:38the way, my mission today is to try to locate and visit something called
- 0:44the Apple Trail Nature Center.
- 0:48I had never heard of it before, but my youngest son went to go.
- 0:53He likes all kinds of outdoor stuff.
- 0:56He really is into fishing a lot, and canoeing and hiking.
- 1:01And he's really cool stuff.
- 1:03So he told me about this place and I'm gonna see if I can find it and explore it
- 1:08and see what it's like So that's my mission today That's the goal.
- 1:13Hopefully hopefully we succeed.
- 1:15I do have a little. Map here you guys ever draw a little and run to a place
- 1:21and navigate to something instead of phone you know the problem with these kind
- 1:26of maps is you don't have a little.
- 1:28It tells you where you are but
- 1:57I don't know,
- 2:00there's something that just pleases me about having a hand- but it might be
- 2:04necessary.
- 2:09Well I found it, let's go explore it.
- 2:11So I had this idea that you could kind of visualize your inner circle of friends
- 2:16as a the flowers and plants in a garden.
- 2:22And they're, they're all different, they all have different characteristics.
- 2:26Some are extravagant and wild and crazy and some are just like a nice pretty
- 2:32plant, subtle and muted, right?
- 2:34Some of them go dormant for a little while, but they come back.
- 2:38And some of them are just like constantly very outgoing, outgoing people, loud,
- 2:44generous people.
- 2:47But unfortunately,
- 2:50just like in my garden,
- 2:53sometimes there's,s an invasive species.
- 2:56And you. Have to be able to recognize in your...
- 3:00your circle of friends, your friends, when
- 3:05Sometimes there's somebody that you're just gonna have to excuse them from you.
- 3:11This is pretty neat. There's a board walk over here.
- 3:14Let's go check this out.
- 3:17So something that I learned that you have to do when you have a flower garden
- 3:20something called. Dead heading and dead heading is when you I cut off
- 3:26a flower head after its gone past its point of
- 3:32I'd say usefulness but essentially past its point maximum
- 3:38vibrance and beauty, right?
- 3:40Because every single stem and every single branch and every single flower is
- 3:45taking energy, you know, from the soil and there's only so much
- 3:51energy to give and so if you if you dead head if you cut off and remove some.
- 3:57Of the flower heads, you're actually...
- 4:00Allowing more nutrients and more nutrients and more to get to the other
- 4:05remaining
- 4:09plants, heads, and plants, heads, and
- 4:39You gotta
- 4:39explain to them that this is what you're...
- 4:40this is what you're noticing.
- 4:43The Ameri-Gator.
- 4:46Yeah, this is pretty cool here.
- 4:49See, they've got canoes here.
- 4:50I don't know if these are for rent or for rent.
- 4:53I have. I do a little bit of reading and research to see.
- 4:55But it looks like there's...
- 4:57yeah, this. Yeah, this is pretty cool here.
- 4:58See, they've got canoes here.
- 4:59I don't know if these are for rent or for rent.
- 4:59I have to do a little bit of reading and research to see.
- 4:59But it looks like there's...
- 5:00yeah, this is pretty cool here.
- 5:00See, they've got canoes here.
- 5:01I don't know if these are for rent or for rent.
- 5:01I have to do a little bit of reading and research to see.
- 5:02But it looks like there's pretty cool here.
- 5:02Yeah, this is pretty cool out here.
- 5:09I see they've got canoes here.
- 5:10I don't know if these are for rent or for rent.
- 5:13I don't know if these Told you guys about Wes before.
- 5:15We were were Told
- 5:18you
- 5:41guys about West before. We were We were talking
- 5:53There's a lot of things to
- 5:57do.
- 6:15They drain your bandwidth.
- 6:18They drain your capacity.
- 6:21Because they will take and take and take.
- 6:26The video that I made most recently, my last video, was about two videos ago,
- 6:32was about boundaries. I want to encourage you to go back and watch that video on
- 6:36boundaries if you didn.t see the one.
- 6:38Because this kind of ties into that.
- 6:41You have to set boundaries on how much
- 6:46you're going to be a giver for
- 6:52people who
- 6:55are just takers.
- 7:14resource person selfishly demanding more and more of your time
- 7:20your resource is your ability to give yeah
- 7:27I'm gonna say this is a win highly recommended I'm not to tell you right
- 7:33about
- 7:33this place this is this is a win and that clear so one
- 7:39thing they can happen with you know, toxic, overly demanding people as they can
- 7:44make you start to feel like you're the victim.
- 7:47You can't be the victim in this relationship or situation.
- 7:51You have to think of yourself as a responsible gardener.
- 7:55You're the responsible steward of your time, your energy.
- 8:00How much you have to give.
- 8:01And you have to...
- 8:04I'm thinking of a responsible budget.
- 8:39the resources
- 8:42And you have something that you could give them.
- 8:46You have the ability to help them.
- 8:48Or when you run into somebody that you can actually help, you want to help them,
- 8:53don't you? You don't want to be in a situation where,
- 8:58you have nothing left in the empty gas tank to give, right?
- 9:02You know, I first started growing some really nice flowers.
- 9:05I felt a little bit guilty to cut off a flower head.
- 9:09And then I was listening to...
- 9:11I think it was a podcast and this lady was saying that she decided when to trim
- 9:16a flower when she would look at it and in her mind it would be no longer pretty
- 9:22enough or healthy enough to sell in a flower shop.
- 9:27Once something started to curl up you think oh there's this flower still got
- 9:31another week on it. Still going to be a week on it.
- 9:34But once it reaches the point where you would no longer sell this flower in a
- 9:38flower shop
- 9:41Well then it's time to deadhead it, because you've got some buds and some
- 9:46blooms
- 9:46that are on their way and you want to give them the energy so they can be bigger
- 9:50and more beautiful.
- 10:11There's three couples out here, and then there's your boy Scotty out here all by
- 10:16him. Because you don't sell friends in stores Scott.
- 10:19Come on. You don't sell friends in stores What's
- 10:25up guys? I? See alligators here It's the middle of the day.
- 10:30Huh?
- 10:31When they're no longer presentable as part of your circle part of your friends
- 10:36when you find yourself apologizing to people for their behavior And I said,
- 10:41they're bringing people down at a faster rate than you can encourage and bring
- 10:46other people up It's time to have a talk with that person
- 11:18Time to set some
- 11:24you just have to come to the conclusion that their
- 11:31behavior is their decision and you did what you could.
- 11:55implementation of my deadheading strategy with your friends.
- 11:59To you, I'm going to trust you to implement the correct boundaries that you
- 12:05need. Everybody's different.
- 12:07The way that you might have more energy to give than I do or less.
- 12:12And so you may have a longer period of time you can put up with the
- 12:19energy suckers. Or maybe you have a lot less time you can devote to these energy
- 12:24suckers and you may have to excuse them from your company a lot sooner.
- 12:32But it's really, that's really up to you.
- 12:33I'm going to leave that to you.
- 12:35It's of course, it goes almost with the last ditch effort.
- 12:41It's the last move you make after trying everything else.
- 12:46Obviously you want to talk to people and explain to people
- 12:50what's going on. So.
- 12:56Hopefully you talk to somebody and they change and then you don't have to Take a
- 13:02drastic action, but at some point for your own survival For your own
- 13:08survival you might have to do a new time talking about here Well, listen, if
- 13:13anything here may come to you or if you just want to talk about it more I do a
- 13:18live stream on a Wednesday at 8 p.m.
- 13:21Eastern right here at
- 13:25Maybe this week we can talk about this, talk about this concept, because I think
- 13:30it's, it would be really easy to misunderstand what I'm saying and think
- 13:35I'm
- 13:35saying ditch your friends as, you know, at every opportunity.
- 13:39I'm not saying that. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be patient with
- 13:43people.
- 13:45We have to be patient with people and what I'm talking about is.
- 13:50When all else fails, right?
- 13:53Um, things. when you recognize that
- 14:01they're
- 14:27not. We call it hanging out at the cool kids table.
- 14:30You are welcome at the cool kids table.

- 15:44there
- 15:54must have been a trail here you know 100 years ago when the first early settlers
- 16:00came Maybe there was a trail that led to a chapel.
- 16:04It's kind of funny to think about where these names come from.
- 16:08All right, well, thanks for coming along with me here here to explore this
- 16:12pretty cool nature center that my son found.
- 16:15I'm gonna have to let him know that he was right about this one.
- 16:19This is
- 16:30This is more for my benefit than it is for yours.
- 16:34This is one of those things that sometimes I just need to talk it out, chew on
- 16:38it, and process it myself.
- 16:42And you just get to come along for the ride.
- 16:47I'm kind of interested in what the comment section on this one's going to be
- 16:51like. I have a feeling there may be a little bit of misunderstanding.
- 16:55I hope you guys are hearing my heart on this.
- 16:58But there might be some
- 17:00Some pushback on this one and if there is I want to hear it if you think I want
- 17:04bass or you think You think not Scott not this time.
