Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's do it. We're cleaning out the sound fridge. It's
- 0:02Speaker 1: one more thing. Armstrong and Getty.
- 0:05Speaker 2: One more thing.
- 0:07Speaker 3: I don't know when y'all are going to be listening
- 0:09Speaker 3: to this.
- 0:12Speaker 1: On your own time.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Maybe you'll have the result by then, but I'm really
- 0:16Speaker 3: excited about Chiefs Raiders this weekend. I thought they'd move
- 0:20Speaker 3: it to the Sunday night or Monday night game because
- 0:21Speaker 3: it's a pretty marquee matchup with good fan bases. Both
- 0:25Speaker 3: teams 3-0. First time that's ever happened. Chiefs and Raiders
- 0:28Speaker 3: have never been 3-0 at the same time. And they
- 0:30Speaker 3: play each other in Vegas, which I actually think it
- 0:33Speaker 3: makes it more exciting. Like a meaningful game in Las Vegas.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I think the first meaningful game in the Vegas era
- 0:42Speaker 3: of the Raiders.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Probably so. And the Raiders really promising. I told you
- 0:45Speaker 1: that in the preseason. You may remember that or maybe not.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And it doesn't matter. So cleaning out the sound fridge
- 0:51Speaker 1: metal guy, huh?
- 0:52Speaker 3: Cleaning out the sound fridge. That's where we got what?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Leftover sound clips. And we're just trying to get rid
- 0:58Speaker 3: of them because they're stinking up the fridge.
- 0:59Speaker 1: No, wrong. Indeed, the crew has come up with just
- 1:03Speaker 1: delightful audio entertainment that we weren't able to squeeze into
- 1:07Speaker 1: the show, and it would be a damn shame to
- 1:09Speaker 1: let it go away, so we're going to feature it now.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You picked out the ones you liked. Go ahead. Call
- 1:13Speaker 1: for them.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I can't believe people are still hungering for more about
- 1:17Speaker 3: Matthew Perry. There's a movie out. Here's the trailer. Making
- 1:21Speaker 3: people laugh.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's a world that I want to be involved in.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I said, God, you can do anything you want to me.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Just please make me famous.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I got a phone call. Hello? And I instantly knew
- 1:35Speaker 1: my whole life was going to change.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I was extremely happy when I got famous.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Then it's like, uh-oh, this didn't fix what's inside me.
- 1:44Speaker 3: This didn't do what I thought it was going to do.
- 1:46Speaker 3: He spent $ 7 million trying to get sober. That's how
- 1:51Speaker 3: seriously he took his disease. I had people telling me
- 1:54Speaker 3: to stop, say, you're going to kill yourself if you
- 1:56Speaker 3: keep going like this.
- 1:58Speaker 1: And I just didn't know how.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Sounds like he is the classic Faustian bargain. Maybe for real.
- 2:06Speaker 1: The devil took him up on it.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Maybe for real, yeah. You can do anything to me
- 2:10Speaker 3: if you make me famous. Okay, we'll make you famous.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You're also going to be a hopeless addict that can't
- 2:15Speaker 3: fix it no matter what. Good luck with that.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, wow.
- 2:22Speaker 3: One aspect of this, as we always say, is we
- 2:25Speaker 3: all feel like that's Chandler. And we have a very
- 2:28Speaker 3: soft spot for Chandler. It's not Chandler. It's an actor
- 2:32Speaker 3: who was a drug addict and kind of a loser,
- 2:37Speaker 3: though very successful financially, that you have no idea what
- 2:40Speaker 3: it would have been like to hang around. But we
- 2:42Speaker 3: all think it's Chandler, and that's why we care.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's part of it. That's accusing everybody of being
- 2:49Speaker 1: a tad shallow, but that's the way you see everybody.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I think most people are, yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah, true. So speaking of beloved entertainers, this would be
- 2:59Speaker 1: one William Joel. Sing us the song, You're the Piano Man,
- 3:03Speaker 1: in a recent interview.
- 3:05Speaker 4: I know people are worried about me because they read
- 3:08Speaker 4: that I have a brain disorder, which sounds a lot
- 3:10Speaker 4: worse than it actually is. I'm okay. My balance isn't
- 3:14Speaker 4: that good. I lost a little bit of my hearing,
- 3:16Speaker 4: but that may have to do with my age, too,
- 3:18Speaker 4: and the rock and roll life and the loud volume
- 3:21Speaker 4: probably didn't help. I'm fine. I want people to not
- 3:24Speaker 4: have to worry about me. I'm okay.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You know, he seems like a lovely, lovely guy, but boy,
- 3:31Speaker 1: what a drunk, speaking of substance abuse.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Is he sober now?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Don't know.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I don't know either. He has done a couple of
- 3:39Speaker 3: really long-form interviews. He did Bill Maher for like an hour,
- 3:41Speaker 3: and he did Rick Beto for an hour. Pretty darn interesting,
- 3:45Speaker 3: if you have any interest in really the music business
- 3:47Speaker 3: at all, but certainly Billy Joel's life.
- 3:49Speaker 1: He stopped drinking in 2021.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Did he?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually watched the Rick Beato interview and it
- 3:56Speaker 1: was fascinating. It was great on like every level. And
- 3:59Speaker 1: I tried to watch his new one with Sheryl Crow
- 4:03Speaker 1: last night. And I think she's a wonderful songwriter. She's
- 4:07Speaker 1: an amazingly talented musician and a cutie. But oh my Lord,
- 4:12Speaker 1: does she talk. She talks and she talks and she talks.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And I know you're thinking, Joe, it's an interview. Why
- 4:18Speaker 1: don't you? Why don't you go ahead and take a
- 4:20Speaker 1: look at that and tell me if I'm wrong.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Well, the Bill Maher ones are good, if you like
- 4:24Speaker 3: Billy Joel.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I have not seen those. Let's see. His name is
- 4:29Speaker 1: not Hootie. His name is Darius Rucker, as a matter
- 4:32Speaker 1: of fact. Talking about the early days of his 90s, right?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Hit smash record band Hootie and the Blowfish. Just want
- 4:41Speaker 1: to point out, very deep voice.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Money and beer. I guess probably that Dave Matthews show
- 4:47Speaker 2: we played with the Frat House, we probably got $ 1, 000
- 4:49Speaker 2: in all the beer we could drink. Our first probably
- 4:52Speaker 2: 10 gigs, 15 gigs was strictly for beer. We had
- 4:55Speaker 2: to steal the PA from the university because we couldn't
- 4:57Speaker 2: afford to bring the PA. So I was in a
- 4:59Speaker 2: show choir and we had our own PA. And the
- 5:01Speaker 2: guy who was in charge of it was a friend
- 5:03Speaker 2: of mine. So we'd steal the PA and take it
- 5:05Speaker 2: to the club and play it.
- 5:07Speaker 3: That sounds about right. Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish,
- 5:10Speaker 3: who they exploded and became famous. And then he decided
- 5:13Speaker 3: to be a country singer, which he's also famous at that.
- 5:15Speaker 3: There's a great story in Todd Snyder's book, who is
- 5:19Speaker 3: a musician you've never heard of. He was friends with
- 5:21Speaker 3: Darius back in the day. And Todd Snyder, who drank
- 5:24Speaker 3: himself to death while we're on that theme of Matthew
- 5:26Speaker 3: Perry and Billy Joel and others. Todd Snyder being at
- 5:31Speaker 3: Darius Rucker's house when there was a party going on.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And just how out of control his life was at
- 5:36Speaker 3: that time. That was like at the height of hooting
- 5:38Speaker 3: the blowfish and everything like that. And he was telling Todd,
- 5:41Speaker 3: he's like, I'm looking around this. I don't know who
- 5:42Speaker 3: any of these people are. There's all these people coming
- 5:44Speaker 3: in and out of my house and partying and drinking
- 5:46Speaker 3: and breaking things and doing stuff. And I don't know
- 5:48Speaker 3: who anybody is.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yeah, as I recall, he wanted to go to bed,
- 5:51Speaker 1: but there were too many people in his bedroom. So
- 5:53Speaker 1: he didn't know where to go. Wow. Yeah, not, oh,
- 5:57Speaker 1: that does not sound good at all.
- 5:58Speaker 3: It's amazing. Anybody who lives through that, because it'd be
- 6:00Speaker 3: so easy to get so far off the rails. financially
- 6:03Speaker 3: or physically that you just never bounce.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Back right right right we sort of accidentally have a
- 6:07Speaker 1: theme here um katie i think 13 was your brainchild
- 6:12Speaker 1: anything we should know about.
- 6:13Speaker 5: This uh this is just a a hungover gay guy
- 6:17Speaker 5: in bed after going out the night before and drinking
- 6:20Speaker 5: these particular drinks i.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Drank six pumpkin spice espresso martinis last night why the
- 6:27Speaker 4: Are we.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Making pumpkin spice espresso martinis?
- 6:31Speaker 3: I've woken up today. I feel like a f * * *
- 6:33Speaker 3: ing gourd.
- 6:34Speaker 1: You mean to.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Tell me that they really wanted to put that on
- 6:37Speaker 2: the menu as if I could.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Have just f * * * ing one?
- 6:40Speaker 3: No, I couldn't have one pumpkin espresso martini.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I had a tray of them.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I don't know who I am, what I stand for,
- 6:47Speaker 2: but all I know is it tasted.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Like fall in my mouth. What another glorious f * * *
- 6:53Speaker 3: ing morning.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I've had six.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Pumpkin spices, but no martinis. Tasted like fall.
- 7:00Speaker 1: You know, he almost won me back there. I can't
- 7:02Speaker 1: enjoy those things because they're, you know.
- 7:06Speaker 1: He's obviously, I'm the outrageous, loud, gay guy, blah, blah, blah.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I hear the image making, but that was a pretty
- 7:14Speaker 1: funny line.
- 7:14Speaker 3: But lots of people have drank too many of a
- 7:16Speaker 3: certain kind of drink and thought, why do they even
- 7:18Speaker 3: have those? Like, I'm completely against... It being the legal
- 7:24Speaker 3: responsibility of the bartender to cut you off and decide
- 7:26Speaker 3: whether you're drunk or not. Completely against that. 100% against that.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You're responsible for your own actions. But I would like
- 7:31Speaker 3: it if bartenders said, look, you've had two of these.
- 7:34Speaker 3: These are really sweet. You're going to feel so horrible
- 7:37Speaker 3: in the morning. And I don't mean hungover. I mean
- 7:39Speaker 3: like you ate eight pieces of cake.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Just let me know. Not only that, but in about
- 7:43Speaker 1: 10 minutes, you're going to be unable to form words. Okay?
- 7:47Speaker 1: It's going to sneak up on you.
- 7:48Speaker 3: That would be helpful.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Ew.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Okay, so this next clip, part of the president's, Jack
- 7:56Speaker 1: is in favor of the president's efforts to rebrand AI
- 8:00Speaker 1: as SI, super intelligence. It's not going to work. I
- 8:03Speaker 1: like ASI because it differentiates between regular chatbots and the
- 8:08Speaker 1: super crazy intelligence that will ruin the world and kill
- 8:10Speaker 1: us all. But anyway, apparently, Katie, is this another one
- 8:15Speaker 1: of yours? This is the, oh, this is AI recreating
- 8:19Speaker 1: the cast of the hit show mad men talking about
- 8:23Speaker 1: how they will handle the rebranding artificial intelligence artificial like
- 8:30Speaker 1: the sweetener like the flowers in a.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Dentist's office.
- 8:34Speaker 1: You built the most amazing machine in history and you
- 8:37Speaker 1: named it fake nobody falls in love with fake super
- 8:42Speaker 1: intelligence same machine but now it sounds like america.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Built it We got a text earlier from someone who
- 8:51Speaker 3: said the name comes from some Dartmouth PhD, who was
- 8:55Speaker 3: one of the first people to work on this in
- 8:56Speaker 3: the fifties. And he just called it that because they
- 8:59Speaker 3: had to call it something. So do we have to
- 9:01Speaker 3: go with the name that this kid came up with, uh,
- 9:04Speaker 3: 75 years ago?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Not that it matters, but which one did they come
- 9:07Speaker 1: up with?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Artificial intelligence.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Oh, okay. All right.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That's where it comes from.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Well, I'm just, well, we don't have to.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Call Kleenex Kleenex either, but you know, that's.
- 9:15Speaker 3: But Gavin Newsom. With a governor's executive order yesterday.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Brave leadership.
- 9:21Speaker 3: That in the California government, you're only allowed to call
- 9:23Speaker 3: it artificial intelligence. Fighting back against Trump's attempt to rebrand it.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Evidently, some Don Draper type told Gavin, it doesn't matter
- 9:33Speaker 1: how stupid or needless it is. Just be seen fighting
- 9:36Speaker 1: back against him. So if Trump plays golf, you play tennis.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Trump says super intelligence. You insist on artificial intelligence. Trump
- 9:47Speaker 1: says he likes pumpkin spice espresso. You say you like
- 9:53Speaker 1: it with cream.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Just whatever.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Trump has normal hand gestures. You have weird, jerky, effeminate,
- 9:59Speaker 3: what are you?
- 10:00Speaker 2: You doing?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Are you fighting bees hand gestures when you're talking?
- 10:04Speaker 5: Trump sits with his knees apart when he's sitting down.
- 10:06Speaker 5: We want you to cross your legs as far as
- 10:09Speaker 5: humanly possible.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Like a woman.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I think that is going to become a thing. If
- 10:14Speaker 3: Gavin ends up the nominee, Saturday Night Live will be
- 10:17Speaker 3: on the way he sits and is weird. hand-gestured, jerky
- 10:21Speaker 3: thing he's got going.
- 10:24Speaker 5: On.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Something happened in there.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I don't know what it is. And finally, this exciting
- 10:28Speaker 1: news report. Number 20, please, Michael.
- 10:31Speaker 6: Mexico has a new plan to fight crime.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Meet Commando.
- 10:34Speaker 3: He's eight inches tall.
- 10:35Speaker 6: He's a chihuahua, and he is now an official member
- 10:37Speaker 6: of Mexico's National Guard canine unit. The uniform, tactical gear, goggles,
- 10:43Speaker 6: even a tiny camera, apparently for future missions. But for now,
- 10:46Speaker 6: they say his beat is not life or death, but
- 10:49Speaker 6: public relations.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That's cute. A little chihuahua. And a helmet. Combat gear on.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Tiny little dog in a helmet. A little helmet and
- 10:56Speaker 3: the goggles. What's that like? It's Paw Patrol. Tiny little
- 10:59Speaker 3: dog in a helmet and goggles.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Paw Patrol. In a country where violent cartels control about
- 11:04Speaker 1: a third of the territory. Okay.
- 11:07Speaker 3: He's got little goggles.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He does. That's a good point.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Well, I guess that's it.
