- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41So how was your Thanksgiving? Oh, it was great.
- 0:45We went to Oregon, went to Megan's families ranch out near
- 0:49Arlington and Condon. It's it's called Clem Clem
- 0:52Oregon. And so we did a, we did kind of
- 0:55a Megan went a day a day ahead of me because her mom and dad
- 1:00were there. And so her and her mom cooked up
- 1:02the big feast. And then because we have the
- 1:04dogs, I left Thursday morning and, and I know it's kind of
- 1:09sad. I literally went had
- 1:10Thanksgiving and then I drove back.
- 1:11Oh. My goodness.
- 1:13Well, their their farm's about an hour and a half away, so it's
- 1:16about an hour. And a half.
- 1:17That's not bad, yeah. It's about an hour and a half
- 1:18away, so. But yeah, so, you know, I mean,
- 1:21it was actually, it was pretty subdued for the most part
- 1:24because we had Megan, her mom and dad, and then we had her
- 1:27brother John, John who was there.
- 1:29That's it. We didn't have any, didn't have,
- 1:30didn't have Kyron, didn't have Logan, didn't have any, you
- 1:34know, didn't have John has a a daughter.
- 1:36Ava didn't have Ava didn't have any any kids.
- 1:39Oh, watch the watch the Dallas Cowboys win.
- 1:43So that was the good thing about the weekend, right?
- 1:46Against the Chiefs, which was even.
- 1:47Better so. Yeah, well, they're, they're on,
- 1:50they're on. They're going to the playoffs.
- 1:51They're on a huge, they're on a huge run right now.
- 1:53So Congrats, if you're a Seahawks fan, that that's that's
- 1:59awesome. So yeah, yeah, our.
- 2:03Thanksgiving was a little bit larger than yours.
- 2:06I think we had, I want to say thirtyish people.
- 2:10Oh my gosh. Because we invite my daughter in
- 2:14law's family. So I was like my mom, my
- 2:16brother, his kids, my immediate family and then my daughter in
- 2:21law's family. So like her mom, her dad, her
- 2:23Grant, her Nana, her aunt, her aunt's kids, her sister.
- 2:28I think that I think that was it.
- 2:30Hopefully I didn't forget anybody because if they hear me
- 2:33forget them on the podcast, they might be upset.
- 2:34So so yeah, we had a house full. My son Matthew made it up from
- 2:38San Francisco. No issues, no issues with flying
- 2:41with the airport. So that was he was thankful for
- 2:44that and he got to meet his niece for the very first time.
- 2:47So that was super cute. Oh, that must have been the
- 2:49best. Yeah, so, so, yeah, it was a
- 2:52pretty good Thanksgiving. Of course, my gravy, my I, I
- 2:55have to make ham gravy from scratch because my grandma did.
- 2:59But it never, ever, it's either too thick or too runny.
- 3:02Like it's, I cannot, I cannot master this.
- 3:06And it's going to be the death of me, this gravy like I, I
- 3:10don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've done all, I've read
- 3:13everything everybody says about tips and tricks on how to do
- 3:18gravy and make it just perfect. But none of them, none of them
- 3:22are working for me. So anyway, that's that's really
- 3:26all I have to. It's called camels.
- 3:28They make. They make little jars of gravy.
- 3:32They do, yes. They make little jars of gravy
- 3:34and you need, you just need, you know, it's it's time for the
- 3:37psych psych out. Well.
- 3:38I don't do the Turkey gravy from scratch.
- 3:41I buy like Costco has, like the Kevin's Turkey gravy in the box.
- 3:45Yeah. And I just get that now.
- 3:46Like, I can't I Turkey gravy's even worse for me.
- 3:50You know how you take the drippy?
- 3:51So this is from the Turkey? Pan yeah, this is from the ham.
- 3:54So we do a ham and a Turkey, and so this is from the ham.
- 3:58We put some water in with it when I cook it, and then all
- 4:01that good stuff in the bottom of the pan, and I use that for the
- 4:05gravy. Well, that's what my grandma
- 4:07used to do. And so, you know, you put in
- 4:09some cornstarch with the cold water and then you put it in and
- 4:14whisk it up. And but yeah, it never, it never
- 4:18works out. Never.
- 4:19I think the most amazing thing I was mentioning to Megan, I think
- 4:22the most amazing thing about all the preparation and then really,
- 4:27honestly, truthfully, you eat for like 2020 minutes or
- 4:30whatever and and it's done basically.
- 4:34Right. And you know, like there's stuff
- 4:36the day before. So I'm making the pumpkin pie
- 4:39the day before. I'm boiling the yams.
- 4:43I do them with butter and ground sugar and marshmallows.
- 4:45Yeah, yeah, Megan does too. So yeah, they did all that.
- 4:48Stuff. Yeah, they can't.
- 4:48Yeah, they did that. So I always I so as so as I
- 4:51enjoyed because remember I just I just dropped in for dinner.
- 4:54I. Just popped in and out.
- 4:55I just got my. 20 minutes you didn't.
- 4:57Even do the dishes you didn't do.
- 4:58Nothing. No, I know, I know so but but
- 5:02yeah, so it it was nice to be low key.
- 5:04Yours sounds like way more of a party.
- 5:07Yeah, I mean, it was a little bit more low key than usually.
- 5:10Sometimes we play a game afterwards and so this time we
- 5:15didn't really sound did. Did anybody?
- 5:17Does anybody besides you cooking?
- 5:20Does anybody else help or is it just you?
- 5:21Oh yeah, everybody brings stuff. Which really helps.
- 5:24So it's nice you have like almost a potluck type.
- 5:26Thanksgiving, too. Yeah, but I'm doing the Turkey
- 5:29and the ham and the gravy and one pumpkin pie, and then I have
- 5:35to do the yams because Shaylee likes them how I cook them.
- 5:39So we can't, we can't farm that out to anyone else.
- 5:42But like, like Haley's aunt brought the mashed potatoes and,
- 5:47you know, stuff like that that really helps.
- 5:49So I'm not having to cook every single thing.
- 5:52Dish for 30 for 30 people. So yeah, and and and, yeah, but
- 5:56that, I mean, that's. So where do you get the tables?
- 5:59We have the big Costco tables, OK.
- 6:02We have like 5 of them, like a live broadcast table.
- 6:05Yes, yeah. But we have five of them that we
- 6:07have to store and we have a whole bunch of chairs that we
- 6:10have the little hooks on the wall and.
- 6:12So we have all these chairs. That we stack up and so we have
- 6:16to. Load them out.
- 6:17Load them back in and I have I used to have I just bought this
- 6:22year the electric like buffet chafing dishes.
- 6:26I had the ones with the little whatever the stuff is that you
- 6:30light and put under him, the old kind of chafing dishes anyway to
- 6:34keep food warm because my brother is always notoriously
- 6:37late, which he has twins. I, I get it.
- 6:40But you know, your food starts to get cold after 30 minutes or
- 6:43so. And so I decided that I was
- 6:46going to buy these buffet chafing dishes.
- 6:49And so we've been using those and then I found these electric
- 6:51ones and I'm like, oh, and we use those for the first time and
- 6:54they worked out really well. So.
- 6:56So yeah, it is like a full on spread.
- 6:58It's like 3 Costco tables deep lined up against our living room
- 7:03wall. And yeah, it's crazy.
- 7:06So then we have tables and chairs set up for people to eat.
- 7:09We basically have to like move our living room furniture like
- 7:13the couch and chairs. It all gets moved and arranged
- 7:17so that everything fits. And your mom comes to this too.
- 7:21Yeah, she never. Everybody so both sides of the
- 7:24so both sides of the family come.
- 7:25Yeah, yeah. I mean, not everyone like Jay's
- 7:28sister, she does her own Thanksgiving with her family.
- 7:31So it's not, it's not everybody like we have at Christmas, but
- 7:34it's just. A different so you so
- 7:36Thanksgiving and Christmas you've got why I'm curious why I
- 7:41guess why are you the destination place is it?
- 7:43Because when? Nicer house or?
- 7:46No room years ago. So when my grandma passed away
- 7:52because she would host Christmas for like my mom, my brother,
- 7:56like that side of the family. And then my dad would just come
- 7:59to our house because both of his parents were dead and he didn't
- 8:02really, you know, have a place to go.
- 8:05And so once my grandma passed away, we only had Jays grandma's
- 8:11or mom's house to go to. And then she got to the point
- 8:14where she was having some knee and back issues.
- 8:17And so then it just became everybody just comes to our
- 8:21house. And then once Jay's sister moved
- 8:23up from Texas and then she has her house and got remarried.
- 8:27And so things have kind of changed.
- 8:28But that's where it originated was we were the only one that
- 8:31had the house and the ability to post it.
- 8:35And in order to keep that alive, like a lot of it for me is
- 8:39keeping it alive for my grandma like that.
- 8:43She would be proud that I've kept it alive.
- 8:46And our my kids really like it. Even though they're adults, they
- 8:50like it. Like my aunt and her son stopped
- 8:52in to visit. She makes these amazing roles
- 8:54that she brings me every year. And then his kids get to see
- 8:58everyone. So it's kind of people just drop
- 9:00in and out kind of thing on Thanksgiving.
- 9:02So yeah. See that?
- 9:04That's the nice thing when you come from a broken home, you
- 9:06don't you don't see any of. These people.
- 9:09I come from a broken home too. Anytime.
- 9:12I mean, yours is a lot more broken than mine.
- 9:14But yeah, yeah, so, so yeah, for us, for us through the years,
- 9:18it's kind of been interesting because like the last two years
- 9:22we went to cousins in The Dalles, OR.
- 9:24I love cousins, their food is delicious.
- 9:26Yeah, so, so we met her family in the Dallas, OR and had and
- 9:30then had Turkey dinner. You know, we'd have nothing to
- 9:33clean up or any of that. You just buy it basically.
- 9:35And then and then four years ago we went to Baker OR my my foster
- 9:40sister Kathy, which was just an amazing time there.
- 9:43So for us, it's always been kind of bouncy, bouncy ball like in
- 9:49terms of Thanksgiving. And even when I was younger with
- 9:52Pokey, with Pokey and Logan and, and myself, it was always, we
- 9:55were always somewhere different. We weren't, I mean, there was
- 9:58some Thanksgivings. We'd be together.
- 9:59There's you know, and we, you know, kind of kind of bounce
- 10:02around. I think I remember, I think one
- 10:03of my best memories is as a teenager, like being 1819, my
- 10:08buddy Randy and I, my best buddy Randy, we, we would just drop by
- 10:12people's houses just to eat dinner.
- 10:14So, so that was so we did like 4, We did like 4 Thanksgivings.
- 10:18Just going to say, how many dinners did you?
- 10:20Get. Yeah, well, because, well,
- 10:22you're 18 years old and you're thin as can be and you can
- 10:24handle it. So.
- 10:26So we would go. And so he and I and.
- 10:28And he kind of comes from a very similar background in terms of,
- 10:31you know, his family wasn't around and all that.
- 10:33So we kind of went to, you know, people's houses and so it was
- 10:36kind of, it kind of cool that way.
- 10:37When I was in Bakersfield, people were always nice.
- 10:39And they said, Oh, you want to come?
- 10:40And so I, I mean, I've, I've had some thanksgivings with some
- 10:43very unique people that, that, I mean, it was basically what you
- 10:46call what 1 offs. Right, because you don't keep
- 10:50having Thanksgiving with the same people, right?
- 10:53Right. You're just kind of.
- 10:54There was one year where Cheryl, Cheryl and Jen, yeah, Cheryl and
- 10:57Jen. I mean, it just varies.
- 10:59Yeah, yeah. When the boys were really
- 11:01little, yeah, we'd have to bounce from like my grandma's
- 11:04house and then Jay's grandma's house.
- 11:06And when you have two toddlers, it's.
- 11:10It makes for a long day for them and for us.
- 11:13And yeah, if. You're if you're doing all that,
- 11:15but but again, I mean for me, and I don't have we talked about
- 11:19this, that Thanksgiving's my absolute favorite holiday.
- 11:22I think you mentioned it briefly in a past podcast so.
- 11:25Yeah, It's, it's, it's just just for me, it's one of those things
- 11:28where I, it's, we're, I'm, we're, I'm just grateful.
- 11:33So to me, it's like, even even as a, as a kid, I Thanksgiving
- 11:37is my favorite because I feel everything, everything else for
- 11:40me is take, take, take, take, Gimme, Gimme, me, me, me, me,
- 11:42me, me, me. And so this is the one holiday
- 11:45where I feel like that, you know, you really should be
- 11:48thankful. And then the hilarity as you
- 11:49break into Black Friday, Cyber Monday, small town Saturday.
- 11:54I mean, you know, so it's like you, you, you should be
- 11:56thankful. And then suddenly greed takes
- 11:58over. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:00So. All the Christmas shopping and
- 12:02buying, yeah. Yeah, how's your, how's your,
- 12:05have you even started your Christmas shopping?
- 12:07Yeah, we started some and we ordered some on Cyber Monday, so
- 12:13we did order some stuff. But yeah, you know, we start
- 12:16this year though. It's just, it's just really
- 12:18weird. I usually I'm really good about
- 12:21knowing what I'm going to get certain people.
- 12:24And this year I have, I've been horrible, but I don't know what
- 12:28it is. But I don't, I don't know.
- 12:30I've just. Well, the night, well, grandbaby
- 12:32gets first. Well, yes, yeah, we have her.
- 12:36We have her big, big guest bought and some of her stocking
- 12:39stuff and then yeah, yeah. It's amazing how the four in the
- 12:43back seat now get grandbaby first, then maybe if we got some
- 12:47stuff leftover you might get some crumbs.
- 12:50Well, and The funny thing is for the kids, they have the little
- 12:53sour patch and the boxes. They've like the Christmas ones
- 12:57and and they have the ones that are the blue Raspberry that are
- 13:00the coal. And then they have the red and
- 13:03green ones in the other box. And so every year like a
- 13:07different kid gets the coal for the year is the joke.
- 13:12And so this year I figure I'm going to give all 5 of them the
- 13:16coal and give a grandbaby even though she can't eat them but
- 13:23her parents can't so. Right.
- 13:24Which is hilarious. Which is which is hilarious.
- 13:27Funny, yeah. So, so for us, I mean, I don't
- 13:29know what you're doing for because you got, you have 4
- 13:31adult children now again. So for Logan and Kyron, for me,
- 13:35gosh, the last whatever years it's just been cash.
- 13:40Like I just give them cash. I don't know.
- 13:42We still do. We still give your kids cash.
- 13:46No, usually they we do. So we do a vacation and then we
- 13:51do their stockings and then now because they're all adults, we
- 13:56draw names and so that. Way you do so, you do a secret.
- 14:00Yeah, yeah, we do like a Secret Santa and then that way and the
- 14:05like, price point is under $100, you know, nothing big.
- 14:09That way each one of us gets to open something is kind of why we
- 14:12do it. But other than that, it doesn't
- 14:15have to be anything spectacular, but you could put things in your
- 14:19list. We we, we have an app that we
- 14:25use to draw names because, again, Matthew's in Matthew's in
- 14:28San Francisco. So yeah.
- 14:31And then you put like things that you might want in your
- 14:33little list and people can either.
- 14:36So that's choose from. It or not choose from it.
- 14:39Oh so so for a Secret Santa, so it's a secret.
- 14:41So it's a Secret Santa app? And yeah.
- 14:46I had told you so so it's so funny.
- 14:49Really quick about to get on track, tell the story.
- 14:51I I barely got here in time for this podcast.
- 14:55So normally when I come, you know, I've already played with
- 14:58the dogs. And so now I've arrived and
- 15:01Barkley. Oh, now here comes Bodie.
- 15:05So they're, they're all, they're all going to chime.
- 15:07In I warned you, I told you, you know, it's like they're so used
- 15:10to me coming home and playing like immediately.
- 15:13And so now it's like I started, started the podcast and now
- 15:16Barclays like not having any of it.
- 15:18Now he's upset. That's enough.
- 15:21So I knew it was going to be, I knew it was going to be crazy.
- 15:25So no, I like that, that, that. What's the name of the app for
- 15:28the Secret Santa app? I'll have to look.
- 15:31I'm not sure if it's like drawing names or what it's
- 15:35called. So yeah.
- 15:38Let me go get I told you it was going to happen that way.
- 15:44He's like he's going to give me so much lattice.
- 15:45What'd you do with him? What's that?
- 15:47He's upstairs. I'm like, did you put him
- 15:49outside? What'd you do with him?
- 15:51I put him. I, I did, I, I put him, I put, I
- 15:57put him. Well, he's upstairs and we have
- 15:59a, we have a, we have a gate, basically.
- 16:03So like a baby, he's upstairs barking.
- 16:06He's. Still up?
- 16:07Yeah, he's still, He's still up. He's still up there barking.
- 16:10So it's hilarious. It's just.
- 16:12Hilarious. So yeah.
- 16:13All right. Well, since we're having issues
- 16:16with animals, I wanted to update you on the cat that we were
- 16:21trying to trap. I have an update on that.
- 16:24So which I told the story, I think not last podcast, but the
- 16:29podcast before about this cat. Yeah.
- 16:33Well, we trapped her and then we discovered she had Kitty
- 16:36somewhere. We had to release her back until
- 16:39we could find the kittens. Well, I was getting coffee and
- 16:43before Thanksgiving and I saw her, which the coffee girls, we
- 16:46bought them food and they've been feeding her.
- 16:49I saw her and I kind of parked and watched where she was going
- 16:54and she went into the bushes right along 40th Ave. which is a
- 16:59busy, busy Rd. here in Yakima. And I'm thinking, Oh my God,
- 17:02once these kitties, if that's where they are, if they start
- 17:05walking, they're going to be roadkill.
- 17:08So we have to find them. And so the next day I went and
- 17:12got some tuna fish and parked by where she kind of went into the
- 17:16bushes and set the tuna fish down because you want something
- 17:19really smelly that's going to get them to come out to see if
- 17:23her kitties were old enough to be walking.
- 17:25And sure enough, not even 5 minutes later, she pokes out of
- 17:28the bushes and here comes 2 little kitties.
- 17:31They poke out of the bushes. And as I'm sitting there,
- 17:34because I'm kind of waiting, thinking, OK, there might be
- 17:36more, let's see, sit here and wait a little while.
- 17:41And there had been some other canned food like Friskies that
- 17:45that was in that area. So someone else was feeding her
- 17:48because that's not the brand the coffee girls had.
- 17:51I just thought it was maybe the ladies from Biomart because they
- 17:55also know about her. And as I'm sitting there waiting
- 17:59to see if more kitties are going to pop out of this Bush, a car
- 18:02pulls up next to me. Well, it's the lady that's been
- 18:04leaving the Friskies food. So we meet each other and she
- 18:10has three other kitties. So there were five kitties from
- 18:13this litter. She was able to catch 3 like
- 18:17right before I like found where they were.
- 18:20So she has three. So then we go on Monday and
- 18:26Shaylee catches one of the kittens and we are there all
- 18:29day, like all day. And Monday we are trying to
- 18:32catch because we cannot trap the mom again until we have these
- 18:36kitties. So we catch the 1:00 and we go
- 18:38back early. It was early Tuesday morning,
- 18:42like 7:00 AM because it's supposed to rain later on
- 18:44Tuesday. And we figure, you know, they're
- 18:46not going to come out in the rain.
- 18:48And so Shaylee gets there at 7:00 AM and she finally catches
- 18:52it. She's sitting outside in the
- 18:54cold waiting to catch this little Kitty out of the Bush.
- 18:58And she finally catches it at about 11:30.
- 19:00But this one, this Kitty was a little more scared, a little bit
- 19:03little more street smart. It was, it was a little more it
- 19:08would see us and go. So it probably would have
- 19:11survived a little bit longer on the streets than some of the
- 19:15other kitties. But so yeah, we finally grabbed
- 19:17that one and now we have been trying to trap the mom, which my
- 19:22fear was if we released her, she would be smart and not go into
- 19:27the trap. And that is what is happening
- 19:29now. Now we cannot get her to go into
- 19:33the trap. We've tried all the tricks.
- 19:36You know, you put you put sardines and mackerel.
- 19:39You do like kitten sandwich, you do all this stuff and she will
- 19:43not even go near the entrance of the trap.
- 19:45She tries to get the food from the other side of the trap
- 19:48because she's smart, which is probably how she's survived for
- 19:51so long. And so finally yesterday I had
- 19:55to go get a drop trap, which that's kind of like the one
- 19:58where, you know, you have like the stick and you pull the rope.
- 20:01I had to go get a drop trap from one of the ladies in the rescue
- 20:05that we foster for. And now I got to go.
- 20:08I'm going to have to sit out there in the cold or me and
- 20:11Shaylee is probably going to take two of us.
- 20:12We're going to have. To set up this drop trap.
- 20:14And once she goes under there, we have to like pull the rope
- 20:17real fast and run over and, and if we don't get her, that means
- 20:22she'll probably know this trap. So fingers crossed we can trap
- 20:28her within the next couple days. That is, that's our goal.
- 20:30Now that we have this drop trap, Hopefully we can we can catch
- 20:34her and and and get her, get her all, get her a home.
- 20:38I don't know, something we'll figure out.
- 20:40Something so you got so you do have the kitties.
- 20:42Though we have the two kitties, yes?
- 20:44And then and then the other lady has the three kitties.
- 20:45The other lady has the three and she had already, she had already
- 20:49found homes for them. Otherwise I probably would have
- 20:51taken all five of them. But she already had homes all
- 20:55planned out and found for them. So yeah.
- 20:57So interest. So, I mean, does Mama Kit, does
- 21:00Mama Kitty know that they're gone, I guess or?
- 21:02I think so. She's going back to the same
- 21:04Bush, but she's not staying there, staying there.
- 21:09So and when we we played kitten noises to try and get her to go
- 21:13into the trap and she came out running and I felt so bad.
- 21:17I'm thinking, Oh my God, she's probably looking for her babies.
- 21:19But but we had to try and get her out and get her into the
- 21:22trap. But obviously she didn't go
- 21:24anywhere near the opening of the trap because she knows.
- 21:27That she's super smart. Yes, I am like, Oh my God, just
- 21:31just go in the trap because. She's well, that's why she,
- 21:35that's why she survived for so long.
- 21:37Yeah. And with one eye, you figure she
- 21:40has one eye, She has one injured eye that we think is from a
- 21:44blunt force trauma. It's not an it's not an eye
- 21:47infection or respiratory infection, which a lot of cats
- 21:51get. So she either got it from
- 21:53whoever dropped her off, or she got it while she's been living
- 21:56on the streets. So.
- 21:58So yeah, she's surviving with one eye and taking care of five
- 22:02kittens. It's crazy.
- 22:03Poor little. Kitty, I hope you.
- 22:05I hope you get her. Yeah, me too.
- 22:06Me too. Fingers crossed, anyway.
- 22:10So yeah, that's our that's our cat story.
- 22:13A great reminder really quick that those are listening all all
- 22:16one of you that to make a donation to your favorite your
- 22:20favorite animal shelter or your spay and neuter or pet rescue.
- 22:25There's so many great so many. Well, I mean, there's so many
- 22:29great organizations for everything, for everything, you
- 22:31know, veterans and foster kids and you name it.
- 22:35But and and it I've been rounding, I've been rounding up.
- 22:39So when I've been at the store, anytime I've been and I said,
- 22:41oh, would you like to round up? I always round up, you know,
- 22:44and, and it's funny, I had a Co worker go, I don't do that.
- 22:47Like, whoa, OK, why? I just thought it was
- 22:50interesting. I just thought it was
- 22:51interesting that they just. I didn't want.
- 22:54To I don't know, I was like, I didn't touch it.
- 22:56I didn't touch it. I'm like, I'm not touching it.
- 22:59But I was talking. I was oh, oh, oh, today they no,
- 23:02they were talking today. And this is 1 where I would not
- 23:05drop any names. But they go, they go, I don't
- 23:08get, I don't understand giving Tuesday, you know, so.
- 23:13So I was like, oh, OK, I better, you know, and I was like, oh,
- 23:15don't you like, you know, don't you round up?
- 23:19Nope, I don't do any of that. OK, I'll I'll just keep on
- 23:21walking here, but. Obviously, she's a very.
- 23:24But they're a very generous person, so I was kind of.
- 23:27Oh, I was going to say, obviously they have no clue
- 23:29about nonprofits and giving. No, I like how they're.
- 23:32Generous so I don't understand, but they did not they did not
- 23:36seem to like giving Tuesday like like they were like, what's the
- 23:39big deal with giving Tuesday and like whoa, OK, so you know, but
- 23:43I've but I've seen them do stuff.
- 23:47Great. So I've seen him a food drive.
- 23:49Yeah, yes, food drive. Different things.
- 23:51So I I thought it was interesting.
- 23:52So yeah. And then and then it was like
- 23:54when I talked about rounding up, she acted like I was like most
- 23:57disgusting human that ever lived.
- 23:58I'm like. OK, so it's not really that much
- 24:02money. What do you think about it, the
- 24:05rounding out in the grand scheme of things?
- 24:07But once you get a whole bunch of people doing it, then it you
- 24:10know that makes a. Difference and I, you know, and
- 24:12I get it that, that with, you know, a lot of I mean, again,
- 24:15you got to know who you're giving your money to.
- 24:17I mean, I guess, I guess what you know, I know, I know my son
- 24:22Logan would disagree with me because let's say it's yolks or
- 24:24whatever, or rose ours or whatever.
- 24:26Well, they make millions. So why are they asking me when I
- 24:30go through the the line to round up or give, you know, cat, you
- 24:34know, and I'm like, well, I you're not going to you're not
- 24:37going to beat the corporation man.
- 24:39Like no. So, so, so it so if Subaru or
- 24:43whoever's doing a food drive, I'd rather give at the local
- 24:46level, you know, and I do. And I fully understand that this
- 24:50this stupid ass CEO is making, you know, 30 million a year.
- 24:54I get it, I get it, But I don't want.
- 24:56But I'm not interested in punishing people.
- 24:59Right. For one guy that that you know.
- 25:03Great, because if we all had that mindset, like Logan, there
- 25:06would be none of these programs or nonprofits to help anyone or
- 25:10anything for that matter, so. Well, Logan wants to help
- 25:14everybody. I mean, I think.
- 25:15The in place, yeah. Yeah.
- 25:17So I mean Logan, I mean that's, that's where Logan and I have a
- 25:20lot of conversation is it's not that he, I mean he wants, you
- 25:23know. He just wants the the
- 25:26corporation to pay their fair share, but that's not realistic
- 25:29right now. Well, he won't.
- 25:30Well, it's not even just it's not even remember he is, you
- 25:33know, he is way once where he you know, and so it's like he
- 25:39thinks, I mean, in his mind, the government should give you a
- 25:41house, should give you a stipend.
- 25:44Yeah. So he's so, you know.
- 25:46Oh, what is it? Oh, what is it called?
- 25:47Universal. Universal income.
- 25:50Universal income. Ubi.
- 25:53Yeah, that that should just be an automatic.
- 25:55Right. I mean, other countries have a
- 25:57lot of that stuff, so. Yeah, I've talked about that
- 26:00quite a bit and I've, you know, I've tried to, you know, if you
- 26:03want to go there, you're more than welcome to go there.
- 26:05So, but these are the conversations we have.
- 26:08But yeah, I mean, I, I feel when it when we talk about those kind
- 26:12of situations, it's like I'd much rather give my money to A
- 26:15cause locally. Yeah.
- 26:17And and I hope that it gets to the right, the right place.
- 26:20I would much rather so I don't know about you, Michelle, but
- 26:24it's like, I'd much rather I just like Salvation Army's out
- 26:30there bell ringing, right? You know, I, I don't, I like to
- 26:34give. I don't like to be accosted.
- 26:38Oh. So, so I was at Walmart
- 26:41yesterday and there was a probably an older gentleman out
- 26:43there, but he had Flyers and I think it was probably maybe
- 26:46doing a toy drive or whatever, but he was stopping people.
- 26:50And it's like, I, you know, I don't have a problem buying a
- 26:53toy or doing those things, but I just, I don't like stuff in my
- 26:56face. And there's and, and, and, and
- 26:58the the good news is there's so many great people on the planet
- 27:02that that's their gift. Like that's not my gift and my
- 27:06gift is not to to go up to strangers and go give me 5
- 27:09bucks. Right.
- 27:10I was going to say that's that's how he's getting donations and
- 27:14getting like the sales people of the world basically.
- 27:17Yeah, there are those people that are good at that and those
- 27:20people that aren't. And that's basically kind of
- 27:22what he was doing being. Yeah, and it's amazing.
- 27:25To get donations. And amazing and I have a lot of
- 27:28respect. I would much rather do it.
- 27:31It's, I guess maybe even maybe you can understand Michelle.
- 27:34It's so much easier doing it from a radio station station
- 27:38standpoint for me. So it's like you and I are out
- 27:41doing a Turkey drive or we're out doing a pet food drive
- 27:44because we're Rick and Michelle. Hey, it's Rick and Michelle from
- 27:46the bull out doing that drive. Does that kind of make sense?
- 27:50Yeah. You know Super Sam, I mean you
- 27:52and I have done a lot of charity in our.
- 27:54Time. Yes, we have.
- 27:54Yeah, A. Ton of charity but I always like
- 27:57it. I guess I just like it from the
- 27:59radio side of things and I just don't like Virgil Wallace going
- 28:03and asking. I don't know why it is.
- 28:05I have AI have a hang up about who I you know.
- 28:09Well, I think. I think it's childhood.
- 28:11That's childhood. Yeah, I was going to say, I
- 28:13think there's a lot of pieces to that puzzle, why you are, why
- 28:18you think that way or why you're programmed that way now.
- 28:21And I think a lot of it has to do with your childhood.
- 28:24And I think part of it is because we we can see and know
- 28:29the impact that we can make as like Rick and Michelle compared
- 28:34to just, you know, like you said, Virgil Wallace or we have
- 28:38a great, we have this, this literal microphone and we yes,
- 28:42and we can use it and get it out there and spread the word, get
- 28:46more donations. Whereas Virgil Wallace you are
- 28:49just a bell ringer in front of Walmart and nobody would know
- 28:53who you were unless you said oh word or they recognized.
- 28:56You right, right. So the nice thing about, like
- 28:58you said, about doing something for radio for a fundraiser is
- 29:01you got the tent out there, you got the vehicle out there, you,
- 29:04you, you also have some giveaways.
- 29:05Everything behind you. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:07And so and so, so people will walk up to you and go, hey, what
- 29:10are you guys doing out here? And then you could explain, oh,
- 29:13we're doing a toy drive and like, oh, that's cool, I'll get
- 29:15a toy. I'll come back right.
- 29:17So or, or or they go a lot and go out there or they go out the
- 29:20side door. So either way.
- 29:22Or if you're just standing in front of Walmart with a flyer
- 29:25without all that stuff. But.
- 29:27I respect that you. Are going to have to go up to
- 29:30people and be like hey, I'm I'm doing this for blah blah blah
- 29:33blah blah toy drive. Can you donate a toy or whatever
- 29:37and so that piece you would not want to do?
- 29:40But no, because I, I think too, it's like I want to, I, I, I
- 29:46give all the time, right? But I want to give what I want
- 29:48to give great. You don't want to feel guilted.
- 29:52Right at the. Time or on the spot be like,
- 29:55yeah, do you? You need to donate now,
- 29:58otherwise you're going to look like a bad person.
- 30:00Thank you. And and how often do we carry
- 30:02cash anymore? I don't carry cash anymore.
- 30:04Nobody does, you know, so, so when I do see the bell ringers,
- 30:07I mean, I try to come back out with a couple bucks, but it's
- 30:10not always, you know, So sometimes I'm hoping they're
- 30:13gone, which at Walmart they were.
- 30:16One day I was coming out with 2 bucks and then they were gone.
- 30:19I was like, oh, OK, they're gone.
- 30:20I'm surprised they don't have the like the little card reader
- 30:22squares where you could just like surprise tap your debit
- 30:25card. Yes, tap your debit card on the
- 30:28bucket. Oh that would be great.
- 30:29But that'd be fine. I'd do that.
- 30:31I, I mean, it's, it's again, again, it's not about not
- 30:34giving. I'm more than happy to give.
- 30:36But it's like, yeah, it's and I, I got, I got a great story to
- 30:41tell you. So many years ago, I was coming
- 30:45back from Bakersfield in the middle of the night.
- 30:46And so coming up to from Bakersfield to here is a 13 hour
- 30:50drive. Oh God.
- 30:51And so I was driving straight through.
- 30:53And so I was, I think I was in like a Redding, CA somewhere in
- 30:57the middle of the night. It's one or two in the morning
- 30:59and I'm outside and I'm outside of a 711.
- 31:01I just gassed up another round of gas and there's this this guy
- 31:04out there that goes, hey, man, hey, you got 5 bucks.
- 31:07And I gave him 5 bucks because as I drove away, I thought
- 31:11number one, it was icy roads, it was winter time.
- 31:13And I thought, well, if that was Jesus testing me, I passed the
- 31:16test. Yes, you did, because you.
- 31:20Did, because I don't know about you.
- 31:22One thing I do believe in Michelle is good karma.
- 31:26Oh yeah. I believe in karma and so, you
- 31:29know, if you are, I really believe if you are a rat
- 31:31bastard, I don't know when or where it's going to get you, but
- 31:35karma will get you. It will.
- 31:37I believe. I truly believe so.
- 31:39So to me, it's like, yes, you know, I round up or I give when
- 31:43I can. Now do I give everything I got?
- 31:47Well, probably not. You know, I don't know about
- 31:49you, Michelle. I don't give everything I got.
- 31:51No, we give what we can or even more than we can, but we try to
- 31:57do our best. I mean we also have to survive
- 31:59on as correct. I mean live day-to-day, pay our.
- 32:03Bills. Yeah, yeah, I'd love to.
- 32:04I'd love to like, you know, give my entire savings account to
- 32:07somebody. But but then I'm then I'm
- 32:10destitute. Yes, yeah.
- 32:11So so to me it's. Like to be reasonable, Yeah,
- 32:15About our giving. Right, So so many ways.
- 32:18Find the Find a place to donate and to make a contribution.
- 32:22Yep, definitely. All right, I wanted to ask you,
- 32:25do you know what the word is It fletching?
- 32:29Hopefully I'm saying it correctly.
- 32:31It's FELCHING. Do you know what that means?
- 32:36I. I I well I've heard the term
- 32:38fletch before, or fletching I mean when, what context I guess.
- 32:43Well, OK, so my girlfriends were texting yesterday about this
- 32:47word because they didn't know what it meant either.
- 32:51And so they had to Google it. And the reason that we're all
- 32:55wondering what this word is is because it's RFK junior text
- 33:03that Olivia Nunzi that girl he was having an affair with this
- 33:08this word. So it's a it's a sex act of some
- 33:12I don't I don't know. And so my friends.
- 33:14Google it. Yes.
- 33:16My friends googled it and then they were texting about it.
- 33:19How? Like now they're grossed out and
- 33:22they can't not see this and now I'm scared to Google it.
- 33:26So I was hoping you knew what it was so you could tell me what it
- 33:30was. I don't want to Google it and
- 33:32have this pop up on my phone screen and scare me or I don't
- 33:37know. Well, let's see.
- 33:40Well, this says it's the fins attached to the rear of an arrow
- 33:43or crossbow, so I don't that must be OK.
- 33:47Fletching, right? Fletching.
- 33:48Yes maybe do like fletching sexual act I don't know.
- 33:53I don't know how you would Google this.
- 33:57Yeah, hang on Fletching, I'm. I'm scared.
- 33:59I know. I mean, I didn't know what Riz
- 34:03meant, so you know. No, you don't want to know I.
- 34:11Didn't know it. Oh thank goodness I did not
- 34:14Google it. Oh God.
- 34:16Yeah, yeah. I don't even want.
- 34:18I don't I I, I OK, I don't want to talk about on the podcast.
- 34:26It has to be bad. It has to be bad.
- 34:29It's bad. You you could just text me.
- 34:33I will text you. Hang on.
- 34:34OK. Hang on.
- 34:35Oh, God. Not while we're not.
- 34:37While we're doing the podcast. I don't want to add it because I
- 34:40don't want to see it now. It might be traumatized.
- 34:45Oh, no. Oh gosh.
- 34:50Oh, felching, felching. It's.
- 34:51Called Oh, is that how you say it?
- 34:53OK. Belching.
- 34:54I figured I was like pronouncing it wrong.
- 34:56But yeah, it's OK because fletching has something to do
- 34:58with bows and arrows and stuff, OK?
- 35:0010I. Figured it was yeah.
- 35:03Fell. Yeah, there's there.
- 35:05Yeah. Thank you.
- 35:06So yeah, I there you go. I just sent.
- 35:13It to you? Oh no.
- 35:15Yeah, I mean, I would be embarrassed to even talk.
- 35:18About oh gosh, Oh no, no, my God, I'm so glad I did not
- 35:25Google that Right. So.
- 35:29So we joke. About that, hey, you know, we
- 35:32could talk about anything on this podcast.
- 35:34There just places I don't want to go.
- 35:36That's crazy. Well, at least now, now I know
- 35:40what it means. And I have.
- 35:42Curiosity killed the cat. And I am by no means a prude,
- 35:47OK, but neither. One of us are so but.
- 35:49When I see that I'm like, OK, I don't know if that I'm not going
- 35:52to discuss that in the presence of, you know, even if even if I
- 35:55enjoyed that, I'm not going to discuss that in the company of
- 35:58people. And and to our one listener
- 36:01that's listening, sorry. Yeah, they don't want to hear
- 36:03none of this. It's probably a family member of
- 36:05what so. It's called, so if you want to
- 36:07go Google it for yourself, if it's called felching, felching,
- 36:10yeah. So there you go.
- 36:11Yep, Yep. That's nasty.
- 36:18Got it. OK.
- 36:20All right, now next topic, Michelle, everybody.
- 36:23'S I'm gonna, yeah, I'm gonna have RFK junior's like, face
- 36:27that's gross in my mind. OK All right.
- 36:30Yeah. OK.
- 36:31Next topic I wanted to ask you if you started watching the last
- 36:34season of Stranger Things. No, I know it's the I know it's
- 36:38a big deal. I know it's a big deal.
- 36:40And what are the are, aren't all the kids like 30 years old now?
- 36:44I mean. Well, they are 10 years older
- 36:49because the very first Stranger Things was 10 years ago.
- 36:53Yeah, yeah. So, but my son and I started
- 36:56watching it while he was here for Thanksgiving.
- 36:59And so I, I had heard that, OK, so there's rumors about.
- 37:05So this is the first half and then the second-half.
- 37:07Drops in December 1's Part 2. Yep.
- 37:09Right. So I had heard that there's
- 37:13speculation that how it's going to end is that this is going
- 37:17basically this is them playing AD and D campaign and it's not
- 37:22it's not happening in real life. And I was kind of like that.
- 37:26Seems like too simple. Would you be let down by?
- 37:29That Would you be let down by that?
- 37:30Because that seems like a even though it seems logical, like
- 37:35that would make sense because, you know, DND is like a huge
- 37:38part of stranger things and my own kids play DND.
- 37:41So I unders I understand a little bit of it.
- 37:45And so it it would make sense that that's kind of how it would
- 37:49end, that it was them with this whole DND campaign.
- 37:53But I feel like that's almost too easy of an ending.
- 37:59Yeah, but do. You get what I'm saying?
- 38:00Like. So I don't know enough.
- 38:02I mean, I know of Stranger Things, I don't know enough
- 38:03about it. So I do know isn't don't they
- 38:06encounter creatures and different things?
- 38:08Vecna, Yes. This horrible monster, Yeah.
- 38:12Yeah, OK. So what?
- 38:13So what kind of monster is it? Because so D&D is trolls,
- 38:19magicians, Wizards. Sorcerers and make.
- 38:22Sorcerers. I mean, it's, it's medieval
- 38:24Knights, you know, trolls, different things like that.
- 38:28Does this creature resemble anything that could be D&D?
- 38:32It's it's almost like a cross between D&D and superheroes
- 38:37because he has certain powers and kind of like scientific Y
- 38:42they were him and L, which is 11 and all these other kids were in
- 38:49this lab kind of situation and their that's how they have their
- 38:54powers and whatever. So it's kind of like a mix of
- 38:58just all they just like threw everything into the show,
- 39:01basically superheroes and or or people with super powers and D&D
- 39:06stuff. And so, yeah, it's just
- 39:09basically a huge mix of that kind of stuff.
- 39:12So I don't know. That was the big way back in the
- 39:1680's. The big let down for Saint
- 39:17elsewhere was that that the entire it was six seasons of
- 39:22that hospital, right. And at the very, I'm not going
- 39:24to spoil for it because it's from the 80s, but the little boy
- 39:27is autistic at the very end. And it's a snow globe.
- 39:31And you see that the the hospital and and and they end it
- 39:35with these two people talking like, oh, he doesn't speak.
- 39:37Duh, duh, duh, duh. You know, and then he's looking
- 39:40at the snow globe, which has the hospital that had been the whole
- 39:4260s, you know, So people have speculated that it was oh, was
- 39:45this all in Tommy's? Yeah.
- 39:48And just point well. When you think about, you know,
- 39:52a lot of people, I remember, I remember Seinfeld was a big
- 39:56disappointment because if they ended up in jail at the very
- 39:58end. Sopranos people were so pissed
- 40:01about that and. Don't stop, don't stop.
- 40:04That's it. That's the end of that.
- 40:06So, so there have been like these, the grand finales where
- 40:10that and then Jerry, even for Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld said he
- 40:15goes, he loved the ending. He goes, they were they were the
- 40:17most wretched humans on the planet.
- 40:19That's why they ended up in jail.
- 40:20Like that's the end of it because they were so wretched.
- 40:22As you know, I. Think you're not going to win
- 40:27ending a show? You're not.
- 40:28You're not going to please everyone.
- 40:30You're always going to have somebody who's like, well.
- 40:32You. So what I think, So what I think
- 40:35about you, I think what's interesting about you, Michelle,
- 40:37is you are hardcore in certain ways you are, you're hardcore.
- 40:43So to me. You are too, especially if
- 40:45there's. No.
- 40:46Superheroes. But but not OK, so a great
- 40:48example for me. It's like, it's not, I'll give
- 40:51you a couple examples. I enjoy Star Trek or Star Wars
- 40:55or superheroes da da, da. But I like like there's always
- 40:58this like they go, oh, who? And when Hulk versus Superman,
- 41:01OK. And then people get into fights
- 41:03about this stuff. To me, it's like, well, I always
- 41:06go whoever writes it, like whoever writes it, because
- 41:11they're fictional characters. They're fictional characters.
- 41:14And so I don't recall any time, even my favorite shows or
- 41:18anything where I was disappointed because I'm like,
- 41:21well, maybe that's what the that's what the author wanted.
- 41:23That's what the writer wanted. So, so it's interesting.
- 41:26So when I watch a movie where they they change the ethnicity
- 41:29or gender swap somebody, I don't care because I look at it like
- 41:33this. Is it a good story?
- 41:35Did I enjoy the story? Now if it's a crappy story, it
- 41:38has nothing to do with them being gender swapped.
- 41:42It it has everything to do with this wasn't a very good story.
- 41:45And for me it comes down to comes down to the story.
- 41:48It just comes down to the story. So when people ask me what my
- 41:51favorite, like let's say superhero movie, right?
- 41:54Well, for me, The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger's Joker because
- 41:59without the makeup, without the special effects, that was a good
- 42:03movie. I didn't need Batman or Joker to
- 42:06be in it to be. I mean, they they could have
- 42:08been just normal people and that would have been an interesting
- 42:11thriller. You know, I didn't need the
- 42:13superpower part of it. Same with when people ask me
- 42:16about my favorite Superman movie of all time.
- 42:18Megan asked me her friend did you know for me 1978, I was 8
- 42:22years old the first time I ever saw Superman.
- 42:24Christopher Ree fly. But if you look at it, it
- 42:29special effects, it doesn't even hold up today, like it's not
- 42:31going to hold up. But no but but I.
- 42:35But it makes me realize when I watch Margot Kidder, I watch
- 42:38Christopher, I'm like, man, they're good actors.
- 42:41They're good actors because the script was good.
- 42:45So. So yeah, so you, but I know
- 42:46you're hardcore. So it's like if they like it,
- 42:49like if they marry off a character or they kill a
- 42:52character, don't you get? Yeah.
- 42:54That's that's why I had such a hard time with Walking Dead.
- 42:58This whole new premise of killing off your main
- 43:01characters, like what shows in history have done that
- 43:05consistently like The Walking Dead.
- 43:07And I think that's, but that's also why people loved it though.
- 43:12Robert Kirkman, yeah, I love because it was a comic book
- 43:14before it was ATV show. Robert Kirkman I will give you.
- 43:18OK, so I did enjoy The Walking Dead.
- 43:20Loved it. I will tell you once Rick left,
- 43:24I because I don't know why, I mean, I even survived, you know,
- 43:27Carl and all, I mean, the list goes on and on.
- 43:29But for some reason Rick was my character.
- 43:32Like I could, I could, you know, relate to Rick, right?
- 43:36So I never got into Daryl Dixon. I mean, he's not.
- 43:41Into any of like. That he's a cool side character.
- 43:44Yeah, he's a cool side character, you know, and Negan
- 43:47and all that, they were cool. But for me, Rick was the dude.
- 43:51And once he left, I kind of watched a couple episodes and
- 43:54then, OK, I'm good. And that was the end of it.
- 43:56So I never saw the ending of Walking Dead.
- 43:57I've never, like you said, I've never seen the, the, the other
- 44:02spin offs. But I was die hard Walking Dead.
- 44:06Logan and I were die hard Walking Dead until, until he
- 44:08left, like, OK, I'm good. So I, so I mean, to some extent
- 44:12now, I didn't know people are crazy because they'll go online
- 44:15and just hysterical. I'm like, OK, I'm not.
- 44:19There's nothing that I like that makes me that.
- 44:22I think and which for Walking Dead, they did a brilliant job
- 44:27of we got connected to these characters.
- 44:30Even I like there was a few characters I cried when they
- 44:34died. And these are fake people in a
- 44:36zombie world that I am crying for.
- 44:39And I would be I have to tell myself that like, girl, what are
- 44:43you doing? These are fake, but you get so
- 44:46invested and you love them so much and you're just rooting for
- 44:49them to survive in this horrible conditioned.
- 44:53And harsh world when Terrell offs that little kid yes, I mean
- 44:57come on. I mean that's probably one of
- 44:58the most traumatic things I've ever seen on TV.
- 45:00Even though you don't see it, you're like look at look at the
- 45:03flowers, look at the flowers, like oh, I'm like this kids
- 45:06dead. I mean like, oh.
- 45:07Yes, I know Jay's sitting next to me and that's what he said.
- 45:09And I was like, they're not going to kill a kid.
- 45:12And sure enough. Yeah.
- 45:16Yeah. So I don't know.
- 45:19And interesting even in the comic books because you can do
- 45:23more graphic art in the comic books.
- 45:25When Megan killed Glenn, it was it's growth.
- 45:28I mean, if you seen the issue, it's growth because it's art.
- 45:30I mean, it's art. So.
- 45:33But yeah, even then I was like, oh shit, here we go.
- 45:37Yeah. So.
- 45:38So, yeah, I mean, you do become invested in in some of that.
- 45:41Now, if it continues to tell a good story, I'm good.
- 45:44But but like you said, once a character goes like, OK, now
- 45:47it's, you know, that's not. That anymore and that's your, if
- 45:49that's your character now, you're just like, right.
- 45:54But there is a missing poster in Stranger Things with Elle's
- 45:59picture on it, and it has a phone number on it.
- 46:01And people called this this number, People called the phone
- 46:06number and there's a recording. It's a recording of the Hawkins
- 46:09Police Department, like saying that they're looking for Jane
- 46:13Hopper. I was like, oh that is
- 46:15brilliant, that. Is brilliant.
- 46:17That's brilliant. I love that.
- 46:18Of the show creators, yeah. So it's little Easter eggs and
- 46:21stuff like that that make it fun too.
- 46:23No, that's cool. No.
- 46:24And I know and I know that this is it.
- 46:26This is the the fifth season is the, you know, coming, you know,
- 46:29And what again, what's gonna be the next big?
- 46:31What's gonna be the next big thing?
- 46:33I don't know, I saw somebody that because you know how we've
- 46:36talked about movies just aren't the same at the theater anymore
- 46:40and COVID kind of, you know, made that, destroyed that a
- 46:44little bit or whatever. But I saw somebody who said,
- 46:47well, maybe we just don't have anything good to write about
- 46:50anymore or tell a good story anymore.
- 46:53And I thought, I don't know if that's necessarily true.
- 46:57I mean, have we told all the wonderful, great stories that
- 47:01think so that we have to tell? I think it's I think it's much
- 47:05harder to reach people today. Yes, I think one of one of the
- 47:09things that's interesting, I think I was watching a YouTube
- 47:11video about it. The movie star is dead.
- 47:15Oh yeah, which we've mentioned that before.
- 47:17Which is interesting that. Yeah, so just because Scarlett.
- 47:20Johansson. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:22I mean, yeah, that now they're banking on this big Avengers
- 47:25movie with Robert Downey Junior coming back next summer, you
- 47:28know, but but it it's almost impossible to do a billion
- 47:33dollar movie anymore because because streaming is basically
- 47:37like we've talked about this just, you know, like I'll wait
- 47:39for streaming or I'll, you know, all these different things.
- 47:42So it's hard to make an event like it.
- 47:44So back in the day when we went and saw Harry Potter, those were
- 47:48events or Spider Man or or Titanic, any of that stuff where
- 47:52it was events, event viewing. Yeah, and now we've become so
- 47:56cynical. We're like, I just wait.
- 47:57I just, I just wait for stringing.
- 47:59Unless you unless you really want to go see it yourself.
- 48:02Right. I mean, which Wicked has done
- 48:04amazing at the box office. So, yeah, the second one, yeah.
- 48:09But people want to go and see sing the songs.
- 48:13It's kind of no different than the Barbie movie, dressing up
- 48:16and going to see that. Yeah, and I was just watching
- 48:19but but they're saying wicked too because it did not get
- 48:22better reviews looking for good. It's not going to make the
- 48:26billion dollars. So yeah.
- 48:27So the the true test will be Avatar which is coming out.
- 48:30Oh. Yeah, Avatar is coming out here,
- 48:32I think this weekend or next weekend.
- 48:33And that's going to be the big test that can't, can't James
- 48:36Cameron of all people, who's the billion dollar guy?
- 48:40If he can do it, if he can do a billion dollar, then I'll
- 48:42believe it. But they're saying we'll see.
- 48:44We'll wait and see, but Zootopia too was number one last week,
- 48:48so. Yeah, it's doing amazing.
- 48:50That's. 500 million already. People are taking their kids to
- 48:53see Zootopia, so yeah. So again, I think it comes down
- 48:58to just the right story, the right everything.
- 49:01Right. It was also Thanksgiving week,
- 49:03so people probably had the time to be able to take their kids to
- 49:07go to the theater. Yeah, because a lot of people
- 49:09will watch football or they'll go to a movie.
- 49:11And I've known families like that.
- 49:13I've known a lot of families that will go and watch movies
- 49:17for Thanksgiving. That's their big, like you said.
- 49:19Oh, we're going to play a board game.
- 49:20No, some families go do movies. Great.
- 49:23Yeah, Yeah. So.
- 49:25Well, we'll see. I'll keep an eye on let me know
- 49:27what Stranger Things when it finally drops the second-half
- 49:29and. Next month and.
- 49:31You're going to be just disappointed.
- 49:32To like, it'll have to be like. I'll have to spoil it for you
- 49:35because I have to tell you the ending, whether I liked it or
- 49:37didn't like it and what happened.
- 49:39And I, you know, before we end the podcast, I am definitely one
- 49:43of those people that that I have no problem being spoiled on
- 49:46movies. I've never I'd love to.
- 49:48You're not going to go back to watch Stranger Things, is that
- 49:50what you're saying? No, no, no, But I, it's like,
- 49:54it's like, so it's so funny is like when a new movie comes out
- 49:58and I want to go see it, let's say it's John Wick or whatever
- 50:00it is, I will go to the wiki Wikipedia page and they will
- 50:04have the plot on the day of the release.
- 50:07Yes, all the time, all the time. So then that spoils.
- 50:10It. You can.
- 50:13You can spoil movies. I don't care.
- 50:16I think. I think, but.
- 50:17Then so then what's the point of going like, OK, I know how this
- 50:21movie is going to play out, so why?
- 50:24I mean, yeah, like the actor actresses might be great in the
- 50:27movie, but then why would? You I get the more I don't like
- 50:29surprises. It's like if I really like, you
- 50:31know, like you said, if I really like a character, I want to know
- 50:33if they're going to die. Oh, for a great example Superman
- 50:36movie you had Crypto the dog. And you looked to see if he was
- 50:40going to die, didn't you? Yes, I did.
- 50:42I mean, that's the dog though. I would have done that too.
- 50:44So. So I I will not go to, I don't
- 50:46go watch. Movies where dogs die.
- 50:48So it's not what I do anymore, so I always will check that.
- 50:51And and Oh my gosh. Well, there's these, there's
- 50:55have you, I don't know if you've seen them, but there's these
- 50:58movies called A Dog's Journey and A Dog's Path or whatever it
- 51:01is where the dog gets reincarnated.
- 51:03Yeah. Yeah, the kids Shaylee has
- 51:05Shaylee has all three books. Oh, my God, I know they.
- 51:10So I think they went to the theater to see the first one.
- 51:13I think Jay took them because I was like, I cannot go see this
- 51:16movie in the theater. There is no away.
- 51:20And then I was home by myself, which was a rarity when the kids
- 51:24were younger. And it was on, I think HBO or
- 51:28one of those, this is before Netflix and all that kind of
- 51:31crap. And I just happened to start
- 51:34watching it. And thank God I was at home
- 51:36because I went through like a whole box of Kleenex.
- 51:39Like I was bawling. And this was the first movie
- 51:42because it's a three series. There's three books, right?
- 51:45Yeah. And so I'm like, oh God.
- 51:48And yeah, I did not watch the second one.
- 51:51The kids have watched all of them.
- 51:53But yeah, I I can't. I can't.
- 51:55So I've seen, so I've seen YouTube clip, YouTube clips of
- 51:59it. So, you know, of, of really the
- 52:02emotional moments, yeah, you know, and that's good enough for
- 52:04me. And then it's like, yeah, I, I,
- 52:08you know, same as one of my but but like, what is it?
- 52:11Homeward journey or whatever Homeward bound.
- 52:15I love those. Sassy and Chance.
- 52:17Yes, love those movies, Logan. Logan loved those, as you know,
- 52:20he. Loves that over and over.
- 52:22Yes, yeah, yeah. So but you know, but again,
- 52:25that's more of a they're talking.
- 52:27So it's like I can, I can suspend belief.
- 52:32That they're real. That they're just.
- 52:33Yeah, I mean, I can suspend belief on that.
- 52:36But for me, even even at the very end of the the first one
- 52:39where I was like, oh, Shadow, he's too old.
- 52:42He didn't make it. And he's like.
- 52:43Peter. Peter.
- 52:46Like, oh, son of a bitch and you're crying.
- 52:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's for me.
- 52:51Any animal. It's so easy for me.
- 52:52That's why I can't watch water for the elephants.
- 52:55I can't see any of that. Even cartoons.
- 52:58So yeah. Remember God.
- 53:00Remember the land before time? I rewatching that with the kids.
- 53:07This was years ago again when they were younger, but it was I
- 53:11I was almost starting to ball. And keep in mind, you know,
- 53:14we've seen the this movie as kids.
- 53:16So it's like I knew this was going to happen.
- 53:19I knew what was going to, you know, who was going to die.
- 53:21I didn't tell the kids, but I'm trying not to cry because I got
- 53:26Shaylee over here crying. I got Jackson over here crying.
- 53:29And I asked the mom trying to keep it together.
- 53:31So because these two are like bawling and I'm trying not to
- 53:36cry because now the movie's going to make me cry.
- 53:38Now my kids are going to make me cry because they're crying from
- 53:40watching the movie. This is this is a domino effect.
- 53:43Yeah. I'm glad, yeah.
- 53:46I'm glad Walt Disney moved off of Dumbo and Bambi and like.
- 53:50Why do they always kill the mom? Why is it always the mom that
- 53:54dies? That's what that's what I want
- 53:56to know. Why any of those things you
- 53:58know, but but looking back. As except for The Lion King.
- 54:01Right. Oh God, well, that.
- 54:02And see that Mufasa, that God that.
- 54:04Wasn't the mom? No, that's Mufasa.
- 54:06That's that, you know, that's that great, that great father
- 54:09son relationship. Shaylee when So she watched that
- 54:12movie over and over when she was little and we'd get to that part
- 54:15and she'd yell Fast forward it, Fast forward it.
- 54:18We'd have to fat. This is a VHS tape.
- 54:21We'd have to Fast forward through Mufasa dying until we
- 54:25got to the end of it, and then she could resume watching the
- 54:28movie. Yeah.
- 54:29Yeah, Logan, that was one of his favorites cause what year was
- 54:32Shaylee born? 2006 but we have all the Disney.
- 54:37VHS tape. We had them on video cassette.
- 54:39So Logan loved that. Yeah, he loved all.
- 54:41He loved all that. But but yes, but for me, I I
- 54:45recall so funny when we were kids, the movies that my foster
- 54:48mom took me to 101 Dalmatians saw that in the theaters.
- 54:53Also the Apple Dumpling Gang I. Don't remember.
- 54:57That, Yeah. So that's Don Knotts and Tim
- 54:59Conway, right? They're Disney movies.
- 55:01Yes. But I think so.
- 55:03I'm I. Think I was too young?
- 55:05Yeah, you're probably too. But I'm all about bumbling
- 55:07criminals, those, you know what I'm saying?
- 55:09Those are those kind. Of Home Alone criminals.
- 55:11Yeah, yeah, yeah, those are, those are fun, so.
- 55:14Like the fun bad guys? That's the the fun bad guys.
- 55:17Yeah, the fun bad guys. So so before we go what what's
- 55:21your favorite holiday movie of all time that you can think of
- 55:23off top? Of it.
- 55:24Oh gosh, holiday, holiday movie shoot, I'm trying to think.
- 55:30I'll put you on the spot. Yeah, I'm trying to think what
- 55:33do we usually what? Oh, Polar Express, that's a good
- 55:37one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:39For me, we just watched that. Yeah, that's a good Tom Hanks.
- 55:43Love that. So it might shock you.
- 55:45My favorite is Miracle on 34th Streets, but it's the black and
- 55:49white version from 1939 with Natalie Wood, the OG version,
- 55:54The OG version I saw when I was 8 years old with my foster
- 55:57parents or on TV and just fell in love with it.
- 56:00I actually own it. I actually, I mean, I own a copy
- 56:03of it So and and I and they remade it in the 90s, right?
- 56:07I've seen that one too, but I. Think so, yeah.
- 56:10They remade it. I have only seen bits and pieces
- 56:13of that movie. I haven't seen the attack.
- 56:14Yeah, that's that's one of my favorites of all all time.
- 56:17Just like I haven't even seen Is it a Christmas story with the
- 56:21leg lamp and the yes. Ralphie, Yeah.
- 56:26I mean, I have not seen that movie.
- 56:28I've only seen. Little clips.
- 56:30Of it. Yeah, that's a, that's a, That's
- 56:32a fun. One, that's a classic.
- 56:34That is a that yeah, that's, that's a, that's a good one.
- 56:36You got to that. People got to.
- 56:37Check. I think my favorite, like
- 56:38Christmas are, is like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and
- 56:43Frosty the Snowman, the Claymation.
- 56:45Because you know, we would wait whatever night that was going to
