- 1:01she loves everything about the ocean i don't
- 1:04think she's ever been in my room before because
- 1:05she's really taking it all in at this moment
- 1:08Um, she loves to look for shark's teeth and she
- 1:11is a mountain girl at heart But anyways, i'm
- 1:14gonna jump in to what's up this week What is
- 1:18up this week is we went to my cousin's birthday
- 1:20party I dragged caitlyn along and she got to
- 1:23meet most of the fam and had many questions after
- 1:26it was so fun But outside of that it was pretty
- 1:29chill i'm gonna have her come into the what's
- 1:32up and or what's in and what's out segment So
- 1:35for me what is in is spooky movies you know because
- 1:38like halloween's coming up you don't really like
- 1:41scary movies no spooky and scary is different
- 1:43yeah like scream everyone's gonna get murdered
- 1:46but like i know what's gonna happen okay and
- 1:49it's fine but anything demonic i don't like as
- 1:53you look at the picture on my wall that i'm pretty
- 1:55sure is demonic and i desperately need to get
- 1:59rid of but yeah or like the halloween movie i
- 2:04don't know why i really enjoy those but and the
- 2:07adams family but anyways that's my what's in
- 2:09of spooky movies what's your what's in my what's
- 2:12in is driving with the windows down oh weather
- 2:15right now top tier us going back home to the
- 2:18mountains was just fabulous okay now my what's
- 2:22out is i think i'm getting a cold as you know
- 2:26oh that was my what's out but that's okay i have
- 2:28another one too so that's okay we can have the
- 2:31same what's out but yeah i feel like my nose
- 2:33is stuffy and my voice sounds weird Do you agree?
- 2:37I did not want to sing in church today actually
- 2:39because I was like the poor people in front of
- 2:41me and I was thinking about Claudia sitting because
- 2:44I was like wait I don't think anyone needs to
- 2:46hear me right now. No, genuinely that was my
- 2:49thought process the whole time as I was like
- 2:52I really don't want anybody to hear me talk or
- 2:54sing. at all yeah no i agree i already can barely
- 2:57carry a tune i was carrying no tune you have
- 3:00a karaoke tune i do have a karaoke tune you know
- 3:04i get an encore every once in a while only from
- 3:07the guy running the karaoke but it's fine anyways
- 3:11we're gonna dive into this episode i have a what's
- 3:14out but that's okay oh yeah what well i thought
- 3:17it was because we're both getting sick but sure
- 3:20no i have my own my what's out is okay oh well
- 3:24now that i'm sitting here and i have to say it
- 3:26now i don't think i remember it i had one and
- 3:28then i think i forgot it i'm sad about it though
- 3:30okay so you can steal mine are you in denial
- 3:33of being sick no because i'm not sick oh oh your
- 3:36what's out was me being sick oh absolutely not
- 3:40mine okay anyways burn all right caitlyn has
- 3:45decided what her what's out is my what's out
- 3:48is cold coffee and i used to be such a hater
- 3:50of hot coffees but let me tell you A hot coffee
- 3:53gives you warm hands and a cold nose. And I'm
- 3:56thrilled for this. Like, I am in the Moby Elf.
- 4:03Meemaw, you're drinking cold coffee today after
- 4:05church at Grumpy Grandpa's. Well, it's also 75
- 4:07degrees outside in Wilmington. You're right.
- 4:10You're right. Also part two of what your what's
- 4:13out is. Oh, hint boys. Oh my god. I hope, I hope.
- 4:17This finds him. I hope it does. I hope this finds
- 4:21him. Do you want to spell his name out really
- 4:23quick? No, that's okay. I'm respectful. Okay.
- 4:27I love that though. State Farm. State Farm. That
- 4:32was my nickname porn first too. I do want to
- 4:34say. Yeah, it was. He played us, but that's fine.
- 4:37We strong. We will recover. We will rebuild.
- 4:41Somehow. Okay, now we're gonna dive into this
- 4:45week's episode. Okay, so Caitlin and I were talking
- 4:53a couple weeks ago about well honestly a quick
- 4:57recap is just how you've started reading your
- 4:59Bible a lot more and actually getting into it
- 5:02and understanding it but Kind of tell us about
- 5:05how you're living and your ideology on how to
- 5:09live life before I don't know Whatever changes
- 5:12last summer how I used to live. Yeah, surely
- 5:14I'll just start from beginning and to now. Yeah,
- 5:17okay So I always grew up Christian in a Christian
- 5:20household. My parents are great They took me
- 5:23to church and I always kind of had that foundation
- 5:25of like what Christianity was but I kind of entered
- 5:30those middle school years my family moved to
- 5:33as we all know, Western North Carolina, because
- 5:35it's been talked about a lot. And I kind of had
- 5:38a really difficult time kind of transitioning
- 5:41into that phase. I didn't have a lot of friends.
- 5:45I didn't really know how to interact with my
- 5:48peers because I came from kind of suburbia, like
- 5:53a beach town, West Palm Beach, moved to the middle
- 5:55of nowhere, didn't know how to interact with
- 5:56my peers. And so I really only found myself hanging
- 6:00out with like People from church and here's the
- 6:03thing guys when you move to the middle of nowhere
- 6:05your church body is typically filled with retirees
- 6:11Pastors or Yeah, the dirt underneath my feet
- 6:17About it a church of 15 people. Yes, she can
- 6:23concur No, I believe that because when my parents
- 6:26moved us out of our cult church, they took us
- 6:28to a church that was like all parents, there
- 6:30was one person my age, and then all the rest
- 6:33were like little kids. And I looked at my mom,
- 6:35I said, this is my personal health. Don't make
- 6:38me go be friends with the nine year old girls
- 6:40when I'm 15. Like, I don't I don't want to go
- 6:44play Barbies anymore. I'm over it. OK, moving
- 6:46on. So because of that, like I. had a very grown
- 6:50up dialect, I knew how to speak around them for
- 6:53them to like me, didn't really know how to interact
- 6:55with people my actual age. And kind of just gotten
- 6:58to this mindset that I am a grown up. Yeah. And
- 7:02I'm like, perfectly fine. And then like moving
- 7:05on transitioning into like high school, I finally
- 7:07started having some friends. And these friends
- 7:09like kind of wanted me to just do things with
- 7:12them that, I mean, we're high school age, so
- 7:15we don't really want to like boast that like,
- 7:17we're Christians or like, yeah. I mean at least
- 7:19in my small town it was like how many parties
- 7:22did you go to in high school or how many drinks
- 7:25did you have last night at the football game?
- 7:27See okay my life was so different because I went
- 7:30to a baptist church and my parents like drink
- 7:34not like they're definitely not alcoholics but
- 7:36like they would give me alcohol and so I was
- 7:39doing the opposite I was like lying to people
- 7:41like no I don't drink alcohol meanwhile like
- 7:43I like Like, my parents had an alcoholic punch
- 7:45and the kids from church would come. I remember
- 7:48one, his name was Johnny. He came up, he was
- 7:49like, did you know that there's alcohol in that
- 7:50drink? And I looked at him, I said, that's crazy,
- 7:53what? Make sure nobody else drinks it. Meanwhile,
- 7:55it was like in my cup at the time that my mom
- 7:58handed me. So two very different lives. Y 'all
- 8:01are like bragging about drinking and I'm over
- 8:02here like. I've never had alcohol in my whole
- 8:05life. Yeah. You're Italian, so you just had a
- 8:08glass of wine from birth. Yeah. I came out of
- 8:12the room and they were like, here you go, kid.
- 8:14Don't forget the breast milk. Here's your cab
- 8:16sab. Yeah. Okay, so back on track. since i started
- 8:23transitioning into having a better relationship
- 8:26with kind of people my age i kind of wanted to
- 8:29fit in with them a little bit more so of course
- 8:30like even if i didn't do these things i lied
- 8:32about it at first and i was a goody two shoes
- 8:35i really was i didn't do any of these things
- 8:37uh then i went to undergrad go heels chapel hill
- 8:41i think everything that people everything that
- 8:45people say happens in freshman year did happen
- 8:48in freshman year yeah except for the freshman
- 8:5115 i am thankful for that i mean maybe i'm lying
- 8:53to myself but i didn't think it happened i started
- 8:56going out like not every night but definitely
- 9:00three nights a week i hindsight genuinely thought
- 9:06like oh i don't go out at all like i was on that
- 9:09so you're like lying to yourself the whole time
- 9:12100 but look looking back i'm like oh Honey,
- 9:16that was not a good look on you. I won't get
- 9:19into detail about any of these stories because
- 9:22that's for a different podcast segment. What?
- 9:27So because of that, I stopped really going to
- 9:30church. I didn't really like the area or what
- 9:33they had to offer religiously or kind of like
- 9:38anywhere to grow my relationship with the Lord,
- 9:40nor did I really feel the need to. Why did you
- 9:42not feel the need to? I Okay, I guess this is
- 9:45the whole point of this segment. So I fell into
- 9:49this mindset that I really didn't need to have
- 9:52a relationship with Jesus Christ until death
- 9:56do me part pretty much. No, seriously, I was
- 10:00like... I really don't need to worry about any
- 10:03of the actions I take when I'm young, because
- 10:06I should enjoy my life, you know? I'm, at the
- 10:09time, like, what? 18, 19? I should be able to
- 10:12do what I want. I feel that. And, like, when
- 10:14I'm old, according to you, 40. That's when I
- 10:19should really lock in for Jesus Christ. But it's
- 10:22just, like, not. Like, it took me until this
- 10:25year to probably realize that. Okay. So what
- 10:28changed this year? I'm not gonna give you a big
- 10:30head, but it was probably a big part of it was
- 10:35probably moving in with you. Yay. Also, it's
- 10:39definitely the Bible study that you hold. Like,
- 10:41um, can I say Molly's name on here? Yeah, sure.
- 10:44Okay, I didn't know like if you had a thing if
- 10:46certain people said they didn't want that. Okay.
- 10:48I digress. That's my favorite thing to ever say
- 10:51I digress. So I say that a lot in this podcast.
- 10:55Because I do I digress like every five minutes.
- 10:58So when I first moved to Wilmington I kind of
- 11:01really wanted to start back that relationship
- 11:02and kind of figure out like where I am and I
- 11:07met up with Molly because she worked with me
- 11:09and She kind of introduced me to the Bible study.
- 11:13First of all terrified the cup I was terrified
- 11:16Clearly didn't take me very long to warm up.
- 11:19It's been less than a year and now I live with
- 11:21you now y 'all it was like Night two or three
- 11:23of you coming to Bible study and she'd ordered
- 11:25herself like a whole pizza and just sat on my
- 11:27living room floor Eating it didn't offer it to
- 11:30anybody else. You're just like going ham on your
- 11:32pizza. What was it like breadsticks or something?
- 11:34Oh, yeah, so it was definitely like, you know,
- 11:36the little mini parmesan garlic bites that Domino's
- 11:38has Oh, I remember the order exactly because
- 11:41it's the it's I get like the 32 count of the
- 11:44parmesan garlic not bite Yeah, and then I also
- 11:47get I don't know the name of it, but it's like
- 11:50the really square thin pizza that's cut into
- 11:53squares instead of like slices. Now there's a
- 11:56reason behind it. My best friend and I used to
- 11:58do that back when I was in Hayesville, like that
- 12:01was our thing that we did together. But you like
- 12:03did that and when you left, two people came up
- 12:06to me after me were like, that girl is my spirit
- 12:09animal. and i was just like yeah i still haven't
- 12:12figured out her name but it's such a vibe she's
- 12:15such a vibe yeah and crazy to think less than
- 12:17like a month later i'm pretty sure we were in
- 12:19ashville again together i don't really know but
- 12:21anyways okay we really do digress now so you
- 12:24came to bible study yeah so i came to bible shout
- 12:26out molly she's such a queen um so molly kind
- 12:29of got me started in it and i was really hesitant
- 12:32mainly because it'd been a really long time since
- 12:36i was in that type of setting to reverse a little
- 12:39bit back in undergrad i was part of a church
- 12:43community slash college campus type of christian
- 12:48group and it was just unhealthy yeah very cultish
- 12:52won't go into it not trying to say anything about
- 12:55this group but it was definitely not the right
- 12:57fit uh they had to change a lot about their structural
- 13:00part of like their um Guess college campus life
- 13:04because of things that I brought up to them that
- 13:06I was like this really isn't good to do It's
- 13:07unhealthy and kind of traumatizing the way they
- 13:10acted and we see that happen a lot in like southern
- 13:13Christian College group culture and back to Bible
- 13:17study. So I was a little hesitant at first I
- 13:19think probably the first three times I came even
- 13:22during the pizza. I was pretty quiet and Our
- 13:26friend Ali actually too, and I didn't even know
- 13:29she was in it. It was kind of like oh oh okay
- 13:32moment yeah like i know people here yeah so i
- 13:35don't know at some point i started opening up
- 13:38a little bit more and guys i have to i have to
- 13:43what's the what's the word like i have to say
- 13:44something i do not buy bible study books i do
- 13:48not buy the study i will come and i will read
- 13:52that and i will participate 100 but i will not
- 13:55buy the study is someone gonna hold that against
- 13:57me maybe do i really care Not really. Yeah, because
- 14:01she's saying that to her Bible study leader.
- 14:03Yeah, no. She really does not care. No, that's
- 14:06exactly why I love that we're raw dogging Romans
- 14:07right now. That's the only way to put it, because
- 14:12that's the only way I keep putting it. Everyone's
- 14:14like, what are you studying? I'm like, Romans
- 14:16are like, oh, what are you using? I'm like, we're
- 14:17raw dogging it. Just straight up scripture on
- 14:21paper, baby. That's all we got. That and the
- 14:23Holy Spirit. Yeah, it was really low key this
- 14:26semester. No homework, nothing. Yeah, so I think
- 14:31it was really during the Isaiah study because,
- 14:33first of all, my mom is such a fanatic over Isaiah.
- 14:37Like, this girl had a Bible verse on her wall
- 14:40everywhere, like in every chapter from Isaiah
- 14:43that she'd be like, you know what Isaiah says?
- 14:45And I'm like, okay, Catherine. Okay, so I've
- 14:49really started enjoying it then and then I don't
- 14:51know if there was a specific moment I liked you
- 14:54I started liking you after during our trip and
- 14:57I was like wait, okay She's really cool and she's
- 14:59kind of cool to look up to I was like, this is
- 15:01kind of a vibe. She's kind of chill Yeah, no,
- 15:04she's like I was like, oh, she's a chill girl.
- 15:06Um And it was really nice that it was just like
- 15:10a nice environment to come into too. Little did
- 15:12I know I'd live here. Little did I know you would
- 15:14live here. Yeah, no crazy. And I'm really glad
- 15:16Clara liked me too. I did eat vegetables once
- 15:19and I panicked because I thought you offered
- 15:22the vegetables. and it was hers and then you
- 15:24were telling me about other stuff and i was like
- 15:27oh okay please don't hate me well i don't know
- 15:30it was great yeah and then i think whenever we
- 15:33you never remember the snowstorm yeah okay so
- 15:37being invited over for breakfast top tier moment
- 15:40for me because i was still struggling with honestly
- 15:42having friends here and i was like oh my god
- 15:44someone likes me enough to like have me over
- 15:46during a snowstorm not only did we have you over
- 15:48we made like homemade pancakes or waffles and
- 15:51i broke open my espresso machine and made lattes
- 15:54for everyone no it was it was iconic full out
- 15:57did breakfast all this to say when you wanted
- 16:00to go to salt church we went mother's day of
- 16:03this year for the first time i remember clocked
- 16:06it uh the service just felt so much like my home
- 16:09church besides the fact that my pastors at home
- 16:12are ancient I'm just kidding. We have got to
- 16:15take that part out. They're not ancient. They're
- 16:17just so much older. It's an older community and
- 16:19I love them. This is such a young community that
- 16:22still really focuses on a lot of the aspects
- 16:28of the Bible and spirituality and relationship
- 16:33that my church did. Yeah. A lot of the South...
- 16:35They don't do that. No, nothing about... Speaking
- 16:39in tongues praying for people and touching like
- 16:41hands like like laying hands on people and praying
- 16:43Oh unheard of in the south unless it's Pentecostal.
- 16:46Yeah, or non -denominational. Yeah, that's the
- 16:48only time no literally and like speaking in tongues
- 16:50was probably a big part I have never met any
- 16:53other church that ever Spoke in tongues until
- 16:55we went to salt like and it's not very evident
- 16:58But this woman came and prayed over me probably
- 17:01our second time at salt in tongues No, it was
- 17:03our first time. Was it our first it 100 % was
- 17:06because I'd never been around someone like speaking
- 17:08tongues and i literally said what the heck and
- 17:11then i said to myself i don't like that and then
- 17:13i corrected myself and i said no like if it's
- 17:16of the spirit then it's from god and you have
- 17:19no reason to dislike it you need to get over
- 17:20yourself and that was my whole thought process
- 17:23while you were getting prayed over it was definitely
- 17:26our first time and then your second thought process
- 17:28was definitely like she's got a demon in her
- 17:30because why have four people prayed over her
- 17:32no really that was our second week oh you're
- 17:35right i was starting to be like is there something
- 17:36wrong with me that i don't realize but anyway
- 17:39so we went to salt and you feel like that like
- 17:41how did going to salt impact you know going from
- 17:44being like i'll start living for jesus right
- 17:46before i die to being like actually i'm gonna
- 17:49start today this very minute no that's you're
- 17:53so you're so you clocked it good good job you
- 17:56clocked it um so jesse and parker just the way
- 18:00they lead in the church it's very like you know
- 18:05how they talk about the great commission it's
- 18:07like they talk about it as not a To -do list.
- 18:11Yeah, it's not sure with it. It is a to -do list,
- 18:14but they make it sound so Admirable and like
- 18:17desirable whereas like when you grow up and you
- 18:19get told like oh you have to go evangelize. I'm
- 18:22sorry yeah i have to go in the streets and i
- 18:25have to do what now and you want me to do what
- 18:28to who we're all not built to just talk to strangers
- 18:30and be like have you met jesus christ our lord
- 18:33and savior who died on the cross for yourself
- 18:35especially with the crazy people in the world
- 18:37nowadays so yeah so many crazy people they'd
- 18:39get added to the list they would you know it
- 18:42you know it and i know it so and they they kind
- 18:45of just really helped like change my mindset
- 18:47of like Oh, this is something I have to do if
- 18:51I want to be a Christian too. Oh, this is something
- 18:53I get to do as a Christian. Like, yes. Jesus
- 18:55Christ loves me so much that I get to... talk
- 18:59about it with other people and I get to like
- 19:01share the gospel and I want people to feel the
- 19:03way I feel and loved minus like singing refiner
- 19:06yeah never again never again after the after
- 19:09the year I've had no um burn the word so now
- 19:13this is the part where I don't need you to get
- 19:14a big ego because we started reading Romans because
- 19:17I really wanted to actually kind of learn the
- 19:19Bible yeah that was a big hindrance for me I
- 19:23never got the opportunity to learn how to read
- 19:26the Bible or even the way it's laid out. I think
- 19:30it can be really intimidating to some people
- 19:32because they see this very large book and each
- 19:35book has its own books in it and each book has
- 19:38its own chapters and it's definitely a little,
- 19:41I don't know, forthcoming. Overwhelming? Yeah.
- 19:45Daunting? It's definitely overwhelming, daunting,
- 19:48like all of the above, for sure. And so... I
- 19:51kind of like mentioned that I really wanted to
- 19:54learn how to read it and understand it. And even
- 19:57if I don't understand every part of it, at least
- 20:00how to go about it and what am I looking for
- 20:03in scripture? And so we broke it down on a Sunday.
- 20:07We started with the books and we highlighted
- 20:09what books mean what. And so poetry, law, history,
- 20:14Old Testament versus New Testament with the Greek
- 20:17and the Hebrew. And that really helps because
- 20:19I'm such a visual person. I'm God willing, that's
- 20:23what's going to get me through PT school. I'm
- 20:26a visual person. Show me the dead body. Cut it
- 20:29up. I need to see it. I need the real cadaver
- 20:32and not like the 3D lab. I digress. So I am I'm
- 20:35a visual person. And so seeing that highlighted
- 20:38and then we also everyone should like at least
- 20:42consider doing this, but kind of have like some
- 20:45color set out in highlighter or maybe pen or
- 20:48color marker of things that you want to highlight
- 20:52that mean Specific stuff so god's character is
- 20:56a big one and then human character and of course
- 21:00like things you really want to memorize yeah
- 21:02it kinda gives you something to look for like
- 21:04reading for purpose versus just reading to read
- 21:07and genuinely i think that's been. Such a turning
- 21:10point instead of just reading to be like this
- 21:13is what this paragraph said not really sure why
- 21:16it said it. Or what the purpose was but it said
- 21:18it be like great job here's a gold star and now
- 21:21i'm like okay so paul's crazy he said this. To
- 21:26the jews because they really need to calm down
- 21:28and really accept the gentiles cuz it's really
- 21:31not all about the jews. Yeah, you really clocked
- 21:34it the other night in Bible study. I was sitting
- 21:36there and I was like, wow, I don't remember us
- 21:37even going over this chapter, but Kate just slayed
- 21:40it, slayed. One person said one thing and I know
- 21:44that she's new and I was trying to find a nice
- 21:46way to be like, you're very far away and off
- 21:49from the real answer. But I love that you tried.
- 21:52And then I was just like, does anybody else have
- 21:54any opinions? And you popped in there and I was
- 21:56like, that's exactly what he was saying there.
- 21:58Thank you. Yeah, that was a nice way to say it,
- 22:00because when I got it wrong, like no that's like
- 22:06not it I don't feel like that's how I went about
- 22:09it but okay it really is because that's how it
- 22:11goes about whenever you don't like my outfits
- 22:13I'm like so and you're like you know you like
- 22:18it right well now I don't like it anymore cuz
- 22:21I need that approval okay no yeah so I look over
- 22:25for you for approval I'm like did I do it right
- 22:27did I do it right did I clog it? anyways i digress
- 22:30so really that was a big turning point honestly
- 22:33and that started what in july yeah july we moved
- 22:37in together in july and i when i got back from
- 22:39being home i really wanted to like kind of work
- 22:43on my relationship and like have that desire
- 22:45to read the bible now guys i did not go from
- 22:48zero to 100 i am pretty chill i went from zero
- 22:52to like 50 i'm a normal person i i'm just like
- 22:56everyone else i'm just a normal girly So I definitely
- 23:00went from like picking up my barber once a month
- 23:02to like twice a week. sometimes it's more sometimes
- 23:06it's less it's at least once that's for sure
- 23:08because hey progress of church or bible study
- 23:11although i have skipped church because we've
- 23:13been out of town though i did make an effort
- 23:16to pick up my bible and read it while we were
- 23:18out of town a couple of times so i saw you it's
- 23:21at least two to three times a week i would love
- 23:23for it to be every day but i'm working on prioritizing
- 23:28it and truthfully i'm a get up early person but
- 23:31i'm not a Oh my gosh, I can't wait to be here
- 23:34today, morning person, you know? Yeah. Like,
- 23:37you're a morning person. I am not. I am not.
- 23:40I've witnessed your side of the morning. okay
- 23:42but my energy and attitude are a choice yeah
- 23:45so i'm really working towards being intentional
- 23:49with how i act and also intentional with how
- 23:52i use my energy throughout the day instead of
- 23:54focusing all of my energy on one good thing or
- 23:57one bad thing being like okay this is how much
- 24:00energy you can have towards this no exactly and
- 24:02even my mom today was talking about how because
- 24:05she's a morning person but like having little
- 24:07kids she purposely woke up with a positive attitude
- 24:10but my mom was also always the woman reading
- 24:12her bible every morning. like i used to tell
- 24:14people my mom wasn't the mom you didn't want
- 24:16to talk to before she had her coffee. my mom
- 24:18was the mom you didn't want to talk to before
- 24:20she went for a run and read her bible. that's
- 24:22how you knew she was like Then you can approach.
- 24:24She was ready for the day. I'd like peek out
- 24:26and be like, has she gone for a run yet? Is her
- 24:29Bible on the kitchen table? Has she read Job?
- 24:31Okay, now I can leave my room and enter the world.
- 24:36Okay, no, that's so valid. I love Pamela. Yeah,
- 24:39she's a queen. She really is. I look up to Pamela
- 24:41every day. You and me both. It's like a mini
- 24:45Pamela when I look at you. That's exactly what
- 24:47I eat. That's what people call me on her side
- 24:49of the world. But okay, so you pick it up two
- 24:53to three times a week. Yeah. On a good week,
- 24:55which honestly, did you know that only 12 % of
- 24:58Christians in the whole world, especially in
- 25:00the US, read their Bible every day? Well, not
- 25:03saying I'm better than anyone, but I'm definitely
- 25:05not awful. You're closer to the 12%. I would
- 25:09love to be part of the 12%. That's discipleship.
- 25:12Okay, so how do you feel when you read your Bible
- 25:15by yourself now? Okay, I definitely still get
- 25:18overwhelmed. So I have to be very careful on
- 25:22what I'm deciding to read and how overwhelmed
- 25:26I want to be and whether or not you're there.
- 25:29So I can have questions. I just finished Ephesians
- 25:33and I really loved it. Ephesians was great. Okay,
- 25:37what was like your takeaway with Ephesians? So
- 25:41Ephesians was it see I'm also not like uh Ephesians
- 25:452 in this chapter in this book in this whatever
- 25:48so somewhere in Ephesians it talks about like
- 25:52love and then towards the end of course it brings
- 25:55up the fruits of the spirit yeah and it kind
- 25:59of just like coils all together guys I don't
- 26:03know if you've realized this but the Bible is
- 26:05like connecting dots She sent me this TikTok
- 26:10and it was like, oh, and this and this and this
- 26:13and this and like flipping back and forth. That's
- 26:15what I do in church all the time. And now I'm
- 26:16like thrilled to be doing it because I'm like,
- 26:18guess what? This and this and this. And this
- 26:19went to this. Like I went back into revelations
- 26:22today and I don't do that. And I was like, wait
- 26:24a second. This is what gets clocked here and
- 26:27the same thing gets clocked in Mark. Yeah, it's
- 26:30crazy. The Bible is crazy. I feel like Ephesians
- 26:34is pretty foundational with the fruits of the
- 26:35spirit. I mean, as a Kaid, Kaid. so as a kid
- 26:40we really learned about the fruits of the spirit
- 26:43and that we want to embody those and that's kind
- 26:47of like the beginnings of like a christian human
- 26:50and like who you want to set forth into the world
- 26:54like the step forward you what's the word i'm
- 26:58looking for like the foot you want to have in
- 27:00the world like is like you want to show up you
- 27:02want to show up as the fruits of the spirit and
- 27:05like i feel like there's a bunch of really good
- 27:07books in the bible that have like list of items
- 27:09you should have so like fruits of the spirit
- 27:11um the body armor of christ the commandments
- 27:15i mean that's all you need right there how you
- 27:17should act what you should not do and what you
- 27:19should be wearing so if you if someone well i
- 27:23guess if someone was Living the way you were
- 27:26living before which wasn't a bad way to live
- 27:27like you love Jesus Yeah, you can honest him
- 27:30as a son of God, but you're gonna like I'll wait
- 27:32like if someone was living that way right now
- 27:34And you're gonna have a conversation with them.
- 27:36Like what would you say to them? Okay so you
- 27:40want to go finish it and I kind of thought about
- 27:42it a little bit and I don't know if I have the
- 27:45best answer because I'm kind of still working
- 27:48through it myself but I would really encourage
- 27:52them to find someone they look up to. Yeah. Not
- 27:55saying it has to be like an older sister or older
- 27:58brother type vibe. I mean, it really helps that
- 28:01you're like that for me. But it's kind of just
- 28:04someone that, you know, who was it in our kinship
- 28:07that was like, you should have someone not like
- 28:09necessarily wiser than you, but someone that
- 28:12might know or have kind of experienced more and
- 28:17you're more knowledgeable about certain - Like
- 28:19a mentor. yeah like you're more knowledgeable
- 28:21about certain aspects of the bible like someone
- 28:23that's like above you in that way like knowledge
- 28:26wise so that when you're asking questions you're
- 28:29not receiving inaccuracy you know or like not
- 28:33that it's perfect because once again the bible
- 28:35is like for our interpretation in some ways and
- 28:38so no one's gonna interpret it exactly how it
- 28:40was meant to be necessarily but having someone
- 28:43that might just lead you to a more profound and
- 28:46biblical answer instead of like well it could
- 28:50be this but i'm not really sure because you want
- 28:53to have that kind of security blanket yeah and
- 28:56so that's kind of what you've been is like i
- 28:58know you're so knowledgeable in these things
- 28:59and so like finding someone like that is really
- 29:01great and then also i think something that really
- 29:05helped is kind of acknowledging like why yeah
- 29:07what is the why my why was honestly like i didn't
- 29:11see the point i didn't see the point in being
- 29:14So profoundly like in love with Jesus. Yeah,
- 29:17I didn't see the point. Truly. I was like he
- 29:19seems cool. He seems cool. Love him Nice work
- 29:23Really really admire the work he's done Like
- 29:30artistry truly next level, but really like if
- 29:34he does sell to a normal person That's an inside
- 29:38joke. Yeah, my cousin who's an artist is like
- 29:40I don't like to sell my art to normal people
- 29:42and me So yeah, I would say besides trying to
- 29:51find someone that you look up to and a mentor
- 29:53Like that is a relationship like you're seeking
- 29:56for like that you like your relationship with
- 29:58Christ is Amazing. I yeah, I look up to it. I
- 30:01wish I could be that secure in like my own relationship
- 30:04sometimes What was your why? like why change?
- 30:08my why? why make the shift in your life? was
- 30:11i wasn't happy. okay. and that's not every i
- 30:15would think that's a lot of people's like like
- 30:17knitting gritty of it. no because like if you
- 30:20truly think about it like you can be surface
- 30:22level happy like in a materialistic way. i'm
- 30:26surface level happy that i can afford an apartment
- 30:29and i have cats and that i have a job that like
- 30:33pays my bills but where am I getting that satisfaction
- 30:38of I have an end goal in mind to like be with
- 30:41the father in heaven forever. And I have that
- 30:45opportunity to do it. And not only do I have
- 30:49the opportunity to like have that with him, I
- 30:51have the opportunity to share it with other people.
- 30:53And I want other people to have that I want other
- 30:56people to be like, you know, what happens on
- 30:58this earth is what happens on this earth, but
- 31:01in the end i'm gonna spend eternity with jesus
- 31:03christ in happiness exactly yeah and like in
- 31:06loving arms yep i think that's really it i mean
- 31:09it's not that deep for me yeah like my best friend
- 31:12sarina always says like for christians this earth
- 31:16is the most hell we'll ever experience because
- 31:18it's the most separated we'll ever be from god
- 31:20physically but for non -believers this is the
- 31:23most heaven they will ever experience i was like
- 31:25that's so like It seems so surface level, but
- 31:29at the same time, it sits with me all the time.
- 31:30Anytime something negative happens in my life,
- 31:32I'm like, well, this is the most hell I'm going
- 31:34to get. I think I'm going to be OK. Yeah. And
- 31:39I want that for other people. I want them to
- 31:41be like, this is the worst, and that's it. It's
- 31:44not going to get worse than this, but in a good
- 31:46way. Sometimes you don't need to go through the
- 31:49lowest of lows ever to find Jesus. I was just
- 31:53a normal teenage girl that's just a girl you
- 31:58see that but yeah i just lived for my benefit
- 32:03and i was tired of living for my benefit and
- 32:06i'm such a giver like that's like i like to give
- 32:09and like to give people the opportunity to know
- 32:12who jesus christ is by like just giving them
- 32:14one thing like well come to church with me and
- 32:17maybe you like it maybe you won't but maybe you
- 32:19will maybe you have a blast maybe you won't and
- 32:22usually they do unless you're state farm and
- 32:24you just ghost yeah me they do that state farm
- 32:27does that he might actually show up to church
- 32:29one day because i told him the church and everything
- 32:31okay anyways so final thoughts like If someone
- 32:34was like, okay, I'm starting, how do you help
- 32:36them get kind of like the ground under their
- 32:38feet, either with like reading their Bible or
- 32:41just making that shift in their life? Like what
- 32:42would you recommend? Like top three recommendations.
- 32:44You've already kind of set a mentor. Yeah, top
- 32:46three recommendations. Mentor is the top one.
- 32:49I don't need to be your mentor. That's for sure.
- 32:51If anyone's thinking like, oh my gosh, no. Like
- 32:54she sounds so cool. I can relate to her. I'm
- 32:57going to stop you right there. Like I can show
- 33:00you how to find shark teeth. I can show you my
- 33:03cat. who walks on a leash there's so much i would
- 33:06be happy to do um not say that i wouldn't be
- 33:09happy but i'm sure as shit for sure that you
- 33:12do not need me as your mentor right now baby
- 33:15i am knee -high to a grasshopper in like faith
- 33:19worlds i barely i'm barely reach anything i there
- 33:23are some things that i didn't know that i was
- 33:24reading and i was like i feel like i should have
- 33:27known that's like lauren every time she has i
- 33:29think that's a famous verse she like cracks me
- 33:32up every time she says that i'm about to like
- 33:34really expose myself here real quick but we were
- 33:37going through mark today in church and I know
- 33:41that we talked about like the life of Jesus Christ
- 33:44and like the lead up to his death and everything.
- 33:46I didn't know it was in Mark. I didn't know the
- 33:48Bible verses were in Mark. I thought they were
- 33:50in Luke for some reason. They are in Luke. Oh,
- 33:52that's right. They're all in the all four of
- 33:53the Gospels just in different. Yeah. Okay. So
- 33:56I wasn't wrong, but I didn't realize that. Yeah.
- 33:58So I would say find a mentor, start with the
- 34:01Gospels. That's a side note. The Gospels are
- 34:04probably the best place to start. Don't start
- 34:06with the Old Testament. Contrary to belief. don't
- 34:09start with the old testament definitely do not
- 34:10i cannot tell anyone to start with the old testament
- 34:13don't start with revelations too because that's
- 34:15just a downer maybe get to know jesus yeah first
- 34:18and then branch out from there yeah i'd say mentor
- 34:21start with the gospels and if you're a really
- 34:25social person join like a bible study group i
- 34:28am but it takes me a hot minute like you kind
- 34:31of were the one that pushed me into kinship with
- 34:33you not that you did but we both wanted to do
- 34:36it but i would have never have done it i would
- 34:37be like cool cool sounds great no thank you and
- 34:39then my last thing is surround yourself with
- 34:42people that also intentionally live for christ
- 34:46um my last like note on that is i used to when
- 34:51i was like still kind of very lukewarm i surrounded
- 34:54myself with people that weren't what i admired
- 34:58in a christian relationship because i had this
- 35:02thought process that i was just gonna save them
- 35:05i was like me just telling them i'm a christian
- 35:08and being a good person is gonna do it when it
- 35:11wasn't so definitely surround yourself with someone
- 35:14that abides by the life that you're wanting to
- 35:18leave or not leave that abides by the life that
- 35:22you're wanting to lead and you just have to kind
- 35:26of rely on each other in Romans is it? Paul states
- 35:30that We should really encourage each other. So
- 35:33definitely surround yourself with a community
- 35:35of people that also want to encourage you in
- 35:37your faith and not encourage you in worldly and
- 35:41materialistic activities, items, social events.
- 35:45There's nothing wrong with that, but there's
- 35:47definitely a fine line between your human self
- 35:50and like your spiritual relationship with Jesus.
- 35:54Well, Caitlin, thank you so much for taking a
